Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here here is coach Frable with a victory shot. Here
we are there, we go.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Victory shot, very good, horrific uh tradition and we must
we must stick with that throughout this season.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah. I have a blueberry chaser for that.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
I'm good. I got my PEPSI did.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
You get to did you get to watch any football
this weekend?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Oh? Yeah, a little bit?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
What what? What?
Speaker 1 (00:30):
What'd you end up watching?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Watching the build? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, Bill's Bengals. So you're in the in the heart
of it here as the as the season gets to
the the.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Third third or what however you want to describe.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
It, third quarter, third quarter, I guess say third third,
look ahead to this game, and obviously you want to
get guys off the bye week and focused on this.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
How do you do that as a head?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Well, I think we're going to meet this morning and
we're going to go over the stuff that we feel
like we've done well up until this point, talk about
the things that we can we can improve, that we
have to improve, but not lose sight of the things
that we've done well. Try to be positive but truthful,
I think is something that we're going to focus on.
And then you know, practice and go against each other
(01:21):
and get moving and get back to the fundamentals and
get back to the things that we know are important,
especially this time of year.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
What are those some of those things from your perspective
that you can improve on this football team.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Well, you try to look at it positionally, and I
think that you know, whether it's the offensive line and
being able to get into the line of scrimmage, or
just focus on pad level, you know, talking about pass
rush games and then continuing to do what we've done well,
stay inside out.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
You know, our combinations have improved.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Wide receivers talk about just this time of year, being
strong at the top of the route, being able.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
To play through to contact and a grab and the
contested catches with the weather and all those things. You know.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
So there's a litany of things at each position that
we'll try to go over and review.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
I think continue to try to stay complimentary and get
these guys that keep feeding off each other is something
that's important. And then just the little things in each
phase is you know, short yardage, red zone, you know,
just those are the things that I think we'll continue
to focus on.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Our kickoff return on special teams.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You You're very intentional in what you say everywhere. So
it was of interest to me that you used the
word champion twice this past week, once once with the
guys after the game and once talking to the media
on Tuesday. And some would say, I'm reluctant to say that,
(02:53):
what's the intention there?
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Well, that's what we're playing for. We're playing for a
championship this week.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Each week you have a new opportunity and message, and
you know, this is a championship week for us, an
opportunity to win the THEFC is something that this team
hasn't done in five years, or the Buffalo has done
it five years in a row.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
So you know, to do that, there's you know, you
have to go out.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
And play a certain way and you have to do
things and continue to improve. And so I don't I mean,
we didn't start and sale or we're going to win
the super Bowl in November or then in November.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
It's not that.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
It's just conversations that I have with the team to
try to focus on things that we need to try
to do and want to do and understand that this
is a great opportunity for us this week here at home,
and you know, since the last time we've played, They've changed,
We've changed. Hopefully it's going to be a fantastic game.
You know that team's not going away. They have a
(03:47):
quarterback who is an MVP quarterback that under any circumstances
is going to be ready to to either win the
football game with whatever running or throwing that he has
to do, and then whenever they need to play, he's
seems to make it.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Mike.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
You guys, obviously that getting the buy is great for
guys to get some time off board. What's what's the
thing that you'll be paying close attention to today, especially
at practice when guys get back.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I mean whether they're you know, the energy level or mad.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Again, we have ninetying in a week, so I'm not
going to pay attention to anything too closely. I'm going
to make sure that we're you know, that we're we're
moving the same way that I'm used to us moving
in and out of drills and not standing around, and
that we're we're going and moving, That we focus on
the details in practice, that we take care of each other,
(04:37):
that we stay up, that.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
We practice fast.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
I've said this numerous times that you know, good teams
know how to practice without pads on less than full
speed or full speed without pads, all these different tempos
and things. So you know we'll have to continue to
work on that.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
But your track record coming off of a bye week
as a head coach is excellent. Six And ohero, do
you have a secret us that you use for guys
coming off a bye to make sure that they're not
giving did?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
As sure as hell wouldn't tell you true?
Speaker 1 (05:06):
That is true?
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Come on, but how do you make sure that these guys.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Tooth Fairy and the easter.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
Bunny, which are both real?
Speaker 7 (05:17):
What the guy that said the media was the one
that got your players hurt after that game?
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Did you think? Did you really think? You? Guys don't
know me?
Speaker 6 (05:26):
But how do you make sure that they are motivating?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I just motivated? I've been through this.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Do we think that professional athletes need to be motivated?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
The new athletes?
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Some people wonder.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
I think they need to be inspired, and you try
to inspire them by giving them confidence and the trust
in doing their job when they go out there, that
they know what to do, they trust the guy next
to them, that they're prepared, and that they feel like
this is going to give them a chance to win
the motivation. I used to say that, and then I
ran into some guy somebody talked somewhere, and he talked
(06:01):
about they're motivated, whether they're motivated by winning money, dating somebody,
the cheerleader in high school, be the starting quarterback, they're
all there's some motivating factor.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
We have to be able to inspire them to do
their job better.
Speaker 7 (06:16):
Like, what did that Sunday night game in Buffalo do
with anything to your expectations of this team? Because I
feel like for everybody outside of this building, that was
a moment that said, wow, this team is different than
the ones we've seen recently.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
Well, I think I don't know if it did anything
for our expectations. I think it gave us, you know,
some some confidence to be able to go and play
on that stage, and play on the road and beat
an undefeated team at the time, and which we all
know is a good football team, which is fundamentally sound
football team, one that you know, you really every time
(06:50):
you you beat them, you.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Have you're gonna earn it.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You know're not going to usually hint it to you,
you know, So that's you know, that's a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
But I don't know, if it's the expectation, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
In my mind, I think it just gave us some,
you know, some confidence moving forward.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Devin mccordy was talking this week about being here for
the Monday night game and what an advantage he feels
like the crowd is here, and he was saying, it's
a little bit different now than Dynasty time because the
fans then would kind of expect it, but they are,
They're into it.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
They are an advantage for the team. You feel the
same way.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Absolutely, and I've said this.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I think that we have to continue to give them
things to cheer about and be excited about and be into.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
And you know, I think a lot of that is
effort plays.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
I think a lot of that is their physicality, it's
the ex plays, it's negative plays on defense or you know,
obviously turnovers or returns, all these things that you know,
it leads to leads to excitement, to their excitement and
their enjoy it.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Mike, I don't know how many guys on the team
have been around success in winning, but you've been there
before as a guy who was able to win your
first year and then win a few more championships as
a player. What type of advice would you give to
some of these guys that might not have experienced the
success that you're having now for them to kind of
(08:21):
keep their eye on the prize and maybe not get
caught up with all the hoopla of what we're saying
about the expectation of this team.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Just focus on what we've been doing, you know. I mean,
that's what we said, when you take a nap, no naps.
You know, you take a nap and you lose, or
the quarterback fumbles the ball or they score on defense,
and you know, you just can't take any breaks in
this league.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It's just too competitive. I think we've done a good
job of understanding that whatever we did last.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Week isn't going to be you know, good for this week,
and we have to start back over and you know,
continue to build throughout the week and have a plan
and however the game unfold, you.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Know, being ready to.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Play it in that manner, right whether it's we need
a situation at the end of the half, we need
a situation at the end of the game, or we
we get out early and whatever however the game plays out,
it's gonna we have to be ready for it.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
After last week, when we talked to you about Will Campbell,
there were a lot of people that took what you said,
your response about not rushing him back, and thought that
maybe his injury was worse than what we first expected.
Is there any way that you can steer people in
the right direction on where that injury stands? Is he
recovering in the right way?
Speaker 3 (09:34):
And I don't know what I said, and I don't
know how they took.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
And I apologize, Cordiney, but it's not way worse than
we thought it was gonna not season ending, I would
hope not.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
He's recovering.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Well, it's so far, so good. I haven't seen him
yet today.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
I mean, guys, I'm pretty entertaining here for you, but
I don't talk much about injuries.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
That's fair. I'm certainly not going to start here with you. Guys.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
No, we wouldn't want that when you we would love that,
really reverse psychology.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I like, help yourself all my stuff here if you want.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
When you talked about Josh Allen and watching a little
bit of that game last night, and when you look
at the Buffalo Bills and the football team and a
guy like that.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
What, what's what's the key?
Speaker 5 (10:23):
As a defense that you gotta make. I guess it's
excuse me pick your poison. You don't want a guy
to use his legs, but then again, you don't want
him to have the ability to just have all day
in the pocket and pick.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
You up, like, what's the has some advice?
Speaker 3 (10:37):
He's already sharing it onead Did you know?
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Did you you missed? When WIGGI was coaching Rock the
high scho boxes, Yeah, he got let go after one year.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I wasn't a union guy.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
That was fresh quarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
We were young.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
My second year is when we were going to.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Turn things around. But I wasn't a union guy.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
They now you gotta beat it.
Speaker 7 (11:01):
His acceptance speech with three hours.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Well, the reason why I say that is I'm watching
that game last night Cincinnato yesterday, and it started in fifteen,
and I just go from a defensive standpoint, and I'm listen,
I'm no defensive coordinator, but I'd rather put pressure on
a guy who's that good of a runner and say,
you know, we're gonna get the ball out of your
hands and let you beat us throwing it versus didn't
run eighteen.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
A little bit. There was a little bit of pressure
wing and then.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
He took off, all right, eighty eight. Now at the gate,
I just there's a you gotta stop the run, you know.
I mean, this is a big, physical offensive line that
does a great job running the ball. Cook has got
great vision, got great burst. They have a very good scheme.
And then you know they mix up personnel a bunch
of different personnel, and then obviously the balance of Josh
(11:50):
Allen and you know, forty yard touchdowns by quarterbacks are
tough to defend, and that'll certainly be a huge challenge
for us every critical play that the ball is in his.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Hand, right.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
I know, you said, you watch a little bit of football,
you get to see that Isaiah likely TD get overturned.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Is that.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Weird to you? Like you see that play at all?
Speaker 4 (12:14):
I did, And I think just on first glance, it
looked like the ball was out before the third step,
So so okay, we were was that's.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Now I know the third step.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Also they meant that as well in the field of
play versus in the end zone, because I always thought
once you showed possession, you got two feet down.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
I'm like, all right, and that's when guys get they
relax and they take a deep breath and they take
a nap and on that third step is and you've
seen that before. There was a play that Trey McBride
had maybe two years ago with with the Steelers as well,
that he caught it and it was like one two
and somebody knocked it out of his hand or you know,
(12:53):
you see guys finishing and just like we've shown our
DB's that just just go and finish in the end
zone and you never know, you know if they've completed
the process of the catch or not, and they take
a deep breath and then all of a sudden, it's
two steps and then the ball comes out.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
I'm getting a signal.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
We got to let you go. We don't have more sport.
Anybody was a.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
Non football I had to know if and Michael May
if you've tried any of her bake miss.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I had the there was an apple crisp bar good, yeah, delicious, Okay.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Because they look good on social media, I wanted.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
To know they were.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
It brings them in for the old lineman, So.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Careful with that because the sport coat won't fit anymore.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
But that was a five K. I heard that.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
It was We walked Courtney and I walked good. She's pregnant.
I also, But it was great.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
We had two thousand thousand people on the seaport. It
was it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
It was great. Did you guys run all over the place.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, we went, ran all the way down past uh
like saber Op, all the way down down around back
out by the the docks, and everything was awesome. Some
good money, great money. Yeah, so all right, good luck,
this is a good one. Thanks go get thank you,
that is sure.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Mike Rabel, head coach of the New England Patriots,
