Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's happening?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (00:07):
A welcome? All right, we're at Howard abdul Conter.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
So welcome to Patus filtered hunter. All right, So how's
the workouts going? You feel? Did you get Jack this morning?
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Trying my best man, trying my best trying. You know,
the workouts are good though, it's good.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Are you kind of guy who I can't wait for
the season to start or you know what I need?
We need this time to get ready, like we can
take our time here.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
I like this time because it's a little bit more relaxed.
It's you know, a little bit slower, you know, a
slower pace, but kids to like build connections with guys
a little bit more off the field. You know, you're
not just like diving into game plans and everything.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So it's a it's a pretty cool time.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I got a question for you, and I don't know
if you can answer this yet. You've had different offensive
coordinators pretty much every you've been here.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
To get Josh back.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
I think everybody's wondering what did Josh learn? What's going
to be different. I'm sure you probably don't even know yet,
but do you have any sense? Are you curious of
what's Josh gonna what's changed from when he was here
in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I mean, Josh is gonna be Josh man. It's it's
hard to say right now, you know, it's it's so early.
But I'm excited to have Josh here. You know, he's
a tremendous mind. Offensively enjoyed being with him in twenty one,
so again, excited to kind of get that ball rolling
again and kind of diving an offense and really trying
to master things. I think that's the biggest thing with everything,
(01:36):
you know, just trying to you know, execute everything at
a high level because you know, he's a great coach
and demand's a lot and excited to be under him again.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
You never asked him about his fascination with the visor,
with the.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Advisor, I haven't I have it. Maybe y'all should ask
him that.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Any chance to throw it all with with Drake? May
you know during and I know it hasn't been a
long off season because you're just getting back, but yeah,
you know, have you guys had any of those plans?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Maybe?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Yeah, Well, I mean we'll get plenty. We're gonna get
plenty for sure. You know, Drake's Drake's a great guy,
great quarterback. So there will be a lot of throwing
sessions in our future, a lot of you know, connections
and time spent in the meeting room and then also
on the field.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
So excited for those times.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
So when you're sitting at home and the Patriots of
making all these free agent acquisitions, are you thinking, I
can't wait to meet these guys and have you and
you know, is there anyone that in particular like he's
like this guy's cool?
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Man? I'm glad to add everybody. I haven't been able
to meet everyone yet.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
It's kind of chaotic, a little bit which all over
the place, you know, splitting workouts, just doing a lot.
But yeah, I met all the guys on the offense
for sure, and excited to always add add people.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
I feel like we did a good job of adding
just like good football players, but also just good people too.
And I'm going to add a lot to our locker room.
So looking forward to that.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Sure.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
Just how exciting is that, you know, to see them
bring in all these people kind of reminds me when
you got here in twenty one, when you came in
with a big free agency class, like, does that reinvigorate
the locker room a little bit?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I mean it's always good to add good football players,
like I said, you know, and hopefully they can add that.
But you know, we have a lot of work we
got to put in together for sure. You know, we
got to come together as a team, We got to
come together as a locker room, and you know we
got to go out there and execute. So you know,
we have a long road ahead of us. But it's
it's fun to always add good football players in the
(03:31):
locker room and excited to get to work with those guys.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Real they brought Hooper back to teammate. How you guys
compliment each other. Good to have a guy back.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah, I mean I love who man.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
I really enjoyed my time just in the room with him.
On the field, you know, we communicate really well. I
mean we're the same draft class, so same age. Man,
We've known each other for so long. To actually play
with each other last year was just such a joy
and excited to kind of build upon that this next year.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
So, Huch, I wanted to ask you, your new coach,
you used to talk about this all the time when
he was a player, because you know, Fred and I
are one hundred years old. We've been around long enough
that he was playing when we were still covering. He
used to always watch the draft, and he wasn't alone.
Larry Gizzel used to talk about this, and they just
like cross off the names of the guys at their position.
Do you ever look at the draft and say, oh,
(04:16):
you know, Tyler Warren, we don't need him likee.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Do you ever watch the draft back in that way?
I don't know if I watch it that way. You know,
I always love seeing success for the tight end position.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Man.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
I feel like it's a little underappreciated maybe sometimes in
the draft because I feel like when teams have a
good tight end, they're usually a good football team. So
I always just, you know, I appreciate the tight end position.
I feel like there's a lot of good tight ends
coming out this year, and so I don't know if
I watched it that way for sure, but you know,
there there's a lot of good ones. You know, if
(04:49):
we add one, that would be great. We'd love to
have him under my wing and teach him as much
as I can because I had I had a great
guy when I came in the league and Antonio Gates
and he taught me a ton and really took me
under his wing, and you know I was I'm very
very thankful for that.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
I want you to talk about your trip to Africa
because you took that with your wife during the off season.
But first we have a Claire from England who is
like our biggest fan of tight ends.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
Yeah, I love it tight ends And hello everyone, Hello Everen,
I have to I have to introduce her emails that way,
and hello to the fabulous Hunter Henry big fan. With
the landscape of the sport changing just within the space
of your career, what is the biggest difference that you
feel impacts how you play your position as tight end?
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Man? How the landscape of football?
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, like you know, like how the offense has changed,
the rules have changed.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Man, I've gotten a lot of protection now, which is
nice over the middle of the field a little bit.
So maybe that is that could be a nice thing
for me. Obviously the game it became a lot of
a passing league for sure in the middle part of
my career. I think it's reverting a little bit. It's
you know, it's circling back to definitely being run over
into it a little bit so, but definitely the passing
(06:01):
league is always good. You know, you love trying to
make plays in the passing game, so a little bit
of both. But I've always tried to be a guy
that can be versatile in the way of being a
you know, a value in the run game and a
value in the past game and trying to take pride
in both of those things. So I think that is
always needed in this league, and it's it's can be
hard to find sometimes. I wouldn't say I mean lead
(06:23):
in the in the blocking realm, but I you know,
I try to take pride in it and really really
do a good job at it. And so I think
being a versatile tied end and being able to do
both is something I try to do myself.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
How much your quarterback is mobile effect, like, has that
changed how you play a little bit more?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
I mean definitely scrambled drill is a big part of
this league, and Drake obviously is very mobile, and so
you always have to be available and be ready because
the play can be extended and you kind of have
to keep your eyes on them, kind of get a
feel for, you know, where he likes things, and work
with them because those extended plays are big plays in
this league.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
So let's talk about your trip to Africa. Why did
you go and what did you experience there?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
And yeah, yeah, it was man, it was a long
time in the making, feel like. So the first part
was a mission trip. I went with a group called
International Justice Mission. It's a group that me and my
wife have been supporting for about eight or nine years.
It's a Christian organization that fights human trafficking across the
globe and they have a headquarters office in Narobi, Kenya.
(07:29):
That's where we spent about five days. We were between
there in a town called Mambasa, which is on the coast,
and we were just meeting survivors, meeting people in the
justice centers, meeting people that do the work on the
front lines, and just the support that we've been able
to provide in a way. Just to actually see it
like in person was just honestly life changing and just
(07:50):
really really meaningful for my wife and I. So it
was it was really really cool to be with with
that group for a couple of days. And then we
went out kind of in the and did a safari
for five, five or six days. That's always been on
a bucket list of mine, so being able to kind
of go do that see all the animals and uh,
just do that with me and my wife and then
(08:11):
some friends of ours just got the cross that off
the bucket list.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
You have any encounters were like, oh, this is whatever, right,
is getting a.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Little too close step on the internet clips?
Speaker 3 (08:22):
It was. There were a few sketchy times. I think
the first day or two, you know.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
We we actually ran into some we like tracked down
some lions that like killed a buffalo and they were
like about to eat dinner, and we were like this.
Our driver just like pulled up on the buffalo that
was dead right there, and they were like coming over
to eat it.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
And we were all like yo, like yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Because this is just like this is an open truck, right,
It's like a wide open truck, like you could just
jump out or they could jump in. So it was
it was definitely a little bit jarring like at first,
but the drivers like, oh, don't worry, like these lines
are used to these trucks.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
They're not.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
They're like they don't even like bother us in a way.
And I was like, Okay, I put a lot of
trust to you, and sure enough, you know, look at
me now, I'm made it back. So how was the food?
Food was solid? You know, African food definitely grew on me.
I don't know if it was, you know, there was
there were some things maybe you don't like they're used
(09:23):
to Buffalo, just just some things that are different. But
you know, it's good to try new cuisines, new cultures.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
So you know, I really enjoyed doing that.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Getting back to the mission work, if there's one thing
that you'd want everybody to know indoor how they can
help or you know.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest thing with just
International Justice Mission and just like human trafficking in general,
is like spreading awareness and like allowing people to know
like that this is going on because and a lot
of the areas in Kenya, these people just like are
getting taken off the streets or you know, taken from
(10:04):
their families. Sometimes the families are selling the kids. It's terrible,
terrible things to the you know, in these communities of
that are so poor and so written, and there's a
lot of people that don't even know that some of
the stuff is going on. So just spreading awareness, obviously
helping fund or giving any aspect can can always help
(10:24):
in some aspect if if your heart is called towards that,
I would just call everybody to like, you know, just
look into it.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
You know.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
That's that was someone came to talk to me when
I like in high school about like slavery and human
trafficking and I was like, I can't believe that's still
going on to this day. And it just sparked interest
in me at that time. It took me years until
you know, I was like, you know what, this is
something I want to support and get behind. But hopefully,
you know, if this can impact somebody just to you know,
a little bit of spark or a little bit of
(10:53):
like curiosity to find out a little bit more and
help spread awareness. That's really what I jams all out,
and what we're trying to do is just spread awareness
to trying to eventually end in this in our lifetime.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
All right, well, good work, all right, we'll let you
get back. I know you have meetings and stuff you
have to do, so you know, want to ask him
any scheme related questions and that's okay, you'll have time.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
He's going to come with us. You'll see it.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
We appreciate you stopping in anytime.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Guys, I appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Miter Henry all right,
