Speaker 1 (00:01):
Oh, offer you doing off season has been great? You
know it's good, come come back, get back to work.
So the stacking day by day, getting ready to count.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
What type of momentum?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Did you better?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
What you say the off season?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
You know, just being on the field, you get more,
like you said, momental more confidence. So just getting the
feel for how everything go. You know, that's uh, that's
just as much motivation as you need for next season.
Made a couple of plays last year, but it's always
the goal to make more plays as the year go on.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Next year, next year.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
So just stack now, You're good? You good?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Where have you seen? Where have you seen?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Drake improved from where he was last year at this point?
Speaker 1 (00:47):
And I would say I can't really speak for Drake,
you know, I kind of focus on what I need
to improve on. But I know as players, everybody got
their own perspective of what they need to improve on.
So I just feel like, maybe, you know, he just
worked on what he had to and just coming back strong.
(01:07):
So I feel like it all come to life when
we encamp with pads and we get a real look.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
So how'd you describe the competition in the whatever room
right now?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
I know you know, we got a lot of guys's
twelve of us at the end of the day probably
be six six of us if we're being honest. So
every day another opportunity to get better.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Be great.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
So we all know we in competition, but it's up
to us at the end of the day.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
So Ki, show what did.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
You learned last year?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
The whole years?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Not easier times? Made some plays kind of things did
you learn to kind of prepare you continue what you
want to do in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I feel like, like I said earlier, you know, just
kind of making a couple of plays. You know, uh,
finished five hundred eighty nine yards three touchdowns. You know,
everybody got goals on being a thousand yard receivers and
stuff like that, but they start with days like this,
you know, just working with a team, getting on the
same path as Drake can. As long as we're on
the same page, everything else could take. I feel like
(02:05):
we could be so much better, you know, I feel
like we haven't really reached our potential. So I feel
like as Pleasure is always wanted.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
To improve, let be interactive to stuff on DAGs.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
So far.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
He hasn't. He hasn't been here much, but We talked
to him every time he comes, so it's been great talks. System.
I feel like it's not bad since I've been in
the NFL, had a new offensive coordinator every year, and
then the LSU two three three years straight new offensive cardinator,
So it's nothing new to me here a few years
with so much Dude, I feel like you're on.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
A be team a little bit.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
No, I don't feel new. You know, Foxboro kind of
starting to feel like home going into my third year.
So it's just what I'm used to having kV out there.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
For this part of or like this part of the
off season, because last year here.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I think it's I think it's good to have a
vet in the room. You know, he could be one
of those vets that's just like he don't need to come.
He experienced like stuff like that. But I think it
means a lot to me that he here putting in
the work with us every day, So that means a lot.
N No, you needed to stop dancing.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Recorded trade talks before the draft, did you.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I mean I heard about it, but I tried not
to really, uh really put too much time into that.
You know, it's just a lot of people and just
sitting behind phones just typing. So got nothing really to
do with me.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
But.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I'm good. Good to see you.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Yeah, kind of thoughts on how you guys are regressing
and getting all this new stuff.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
Yeah, no, we're figuring out every day is the you know,
there's a new mistake, which is a good thing. As
long as we aren't repeat offenders, you know, we'll be
better as a team.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
That's the biggest thing you've seen about team so far.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
Effort effort. Yeah, everyone's flying to the ball, even the
big guys out of the stack, guy corners who are
on the opposite side of the field. Every one's running
to the ball.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Playing.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
It spills, It spills a lot of fun. He's so wise,
he's funny, he's intense, and he's my guy.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, because pretty fast here.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
Yeah, yeah, no, we have a lot of similarities. We're
both we both have fun when we're out there together.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Appreciate would describe the temple you guys want to establish.
How are you experiencing?
Speaker 6 (04:30):
Yeah, no, the temple has been really good. You know
in O t As it's hard to get a full
fiel because we're in pads. But for the most part,
I think the offense and the defense have done really
well in that area. How difficult is it?
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Because Michael says beforehander, you want the guys to go
full speed, but you have to showy stray when you
are talk.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
You know, I think it's the rookies who have the
hardest time with it. You kind of learn as the
day go on, and the more years you do it,
the easier it gets. But you kind of just have
to learn on your own, you know, by watching people
and by doing it.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
No games right now, but what does it mean for
you to be out there like the first group, you
know and considering where you can.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Go in your career.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Yeah, no, it's been a blessing. God has blessed me.
I cannot complain. It's been a lot of fun. Yeah,
so I can't. I can't be more grateful.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Yeah, they pack with that coach.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
You know, Coach T is still with us. We see
him every single day on Zoom, So it's not his
energy is not unfelt. You know, we still we still
got to hear his energy, hear his voice. He gives
us the corrections that we need to get. So you know,
he's still he's still are in d C and he
still leads this group. Yeah, Yeah, appreciate.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Mike before the practice about the competition and just a
group in the safety room, you know. You know coming
into last year, between you and Kyle, whant to go
to the safety Yeah, and he mentioned he really loves
your energy on a day in day basis. It's a
whole new culture coming in. Everything's being learned again new.
But what are you trying to bring and carry over there?
Cause it might be novel to you.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I mean, I just try to be the same guy
every day.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I love his game. It's a big passion for me,
and I just show that. Try to lead by example,
you know, be a guy, do what the coaches say
every time I'm supposed to do it, you know, so
the young guys you have something to follow and keep
the standard the standard. You know, that's never gonna change. No,
you know, no matter who you know comes in here,
the standard is the standard.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
It's been frustrating. I know that in twenty twenty three,
it was a frustrating season for you. Waited really well,
and it did in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Two as well.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
What's your level of optimism right.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Now about this team trying to get back to where
it's a content.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
You know, we just gotta keep grinding and take it
day by day, you know, keep keep learning our fundamentals,
keep learning the playbook, keep gelling with one another, keep
keep establishing our identity so you know, when when Thomas
season comes, you can play to it.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
Robert just said that he thought collectively he was pretty
convinced that.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
You guys can have a really good defensive. Or do
you concur that if we keep going well, we need
to do the way we need to do it. I
definitely concur have another chance to talk to you. I'm
just happy it is over it. I get back to
doing what I love to do, Uh, learning experience. You know,
(07:36):
I definitely gonna learn from it.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
How much is this.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Come in and stop stop a fresh start for you?
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I think every year in the league is a fresh start,
you know, no matter how well you do it, how
bad you do if you're lucky enough and have the
opportunity to sit in one of these seats, you know,
year year in and year out, that's a new opportunity
to prove yourself. So I always look forward to that,
you know, whether I do well, whether the the year
that or go the way I wanted it to.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
But you different head coaches.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Difficult that.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Not really you know, I played on you know, some
teams that wasn't that good. Uh, And it was a
lot of turnover with the coaches, so you know, I
I could kind of adjust, I could kind of habituate anything.
But typically you know, football guys, football coaches.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
You know, we definitely messed real well together.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
New faces.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Where are you guys, just in terms of coming together.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
That's it. That's all we're trying to do, you know,
learn one another. Those guys learn us, We learned them,
learn how they want us to do things, how they
see things. So by the time that the season comes,
we could put it all together, you know how much.
You know, I ain't never had to win the season,
so I'll be the first one to tell you I'm
tired of that. But you know, it starts. It starts
(08:52):
with the little things. You know, you gotta eliminate bad football.
You know, gotta be fundamentally sound. You gotta play to
your identity. And you know whether the adverage it's gonna
be adversity a year in, the year out. And you know,
typically the closest teams, you know, they overcome the adversity
that what fans season just just always am, you know,
(09:13):
and the jeted guy's gonna play hard to the whistle,
you know, try to lead by example, you know, get
all my guys on the same page by by being
a good communicator and uh, you know, holding gods to
the stand and those guys holding me to the standard. Yeah,
I like him, smart, savvy. You know, he's doing a
great job soaking up what the coaches wanting to do.
(09:33):
The different techniques. You know, college balls a little different
than the league, especially in the Pac twelve. Uh so,
so uh, you know, he's definitely doing a good job.
Though I'm sorry this coach so far. You know, we're
just getting started, but I could tell you everyone's hungry.
Everyone's brought in, you know, to the new identity, and
(09:54):
you know we're gonna do whatever we gotta do to
get that bad tast out of our mouth. For sure,
what is a coach head coach with It seems like
he's chatting on every single play. Yeah, I I met
coach Raves and I took my visit to Ohio State,
and uh, I didn't know he was used to play
a little tight end, you know, Uh, back when Brady
was here and uh, you know he's he told me
(10:14):
to line up. I'm like, he's a line back. He
ain't got he ain't got too much. You know, you're
out of me up caught the ball. Uh And that's
one of the first things he said to me when
he got here. But you know, it's been good man,
I I I. I definitely think that he knows how
to get the best out of his players, and I
definitely think that they like everyone that's brought him.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Last year, a lot of the team captains are uh
no longer here. You're one of the holdovers to servants
that sort of leadership. You see yourself fitting into the
new leadership and you approaching different.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Like I said, it, be the same guy every day,
you know, try to lead by example, try to do
things the right way, you know, do things how the
coach onces it done. And uh, you know it's a
lot of t it's a lot of turnover in the year,
I mean in the league year in and year out.
So I don't really think about all that extra stuff.
I just know how to beat me and uh, you
know that's been working pretty well. Scott Book, Uh, I
(11:04):
remember a coach book when he was at not to day.
So you know, I'm getting old now as I can see. Uh,
but it's it's it's been real good. You know. He's
coaches you hard. You know, he holds you to a
high standard because our mistakes are you know, big mistakes
typically touchdowns exposed to play. So he does a good
job holding the guy to the standard, coaching you hard,
you know, making sure your fundamentally sound, and just preaching
(11:25):
having fun. You know it's supposed to be fun, y'all here.
He need to start wearing my number. I told he
wasn't tough enough for it.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Appreciated, M good, how are you? Yeah, I'd like to
switch it up. So it's a great opportunity to get
(11:55):
to know your teammates, get to learn the defense, and
get to come out here and work every day. So
we're just trying to get better every day, stack good
days that good plays and learn from each other. So
excited to be here making progress every day. About Yeah,
he's very transparent, intense, straight to the point, you know
(12:18):
what to expect, which is something I love. As a player.
All you want is clarity, All you want is clear messaging,
and that messaging stays true. It's who he is, so
he doesn't have to fake it. He gets to be
his true self every day.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
What do you like about the defense?
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Ah, the people I I strive to be the best
teammate I could be every day. We got eleven guys
doing that, playing for each other, running to the ball,
effort and finish on every play. We're gonna have a
good year for me. I could play in any defense
across the league. I just want to encourage my teammates
(12:57):
to be their true selves and leave everything on the fields.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
You guys are kind of already talking about what's do
with opponents in certain things.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
What allows you guys.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
To get that for you?
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Yeah, the number of starts we have, especially in that
inside linebacker room. We understand the strengths to certain defenses,
and we still all have those scars of players that
beat you in certain defenses. So, whether it's here or
other teams, all these defenses across the league ideally have
the same concepts. So we've played in these defenses before,
(13:30):
and we want to talk through some of the trickier
downs we need said.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
A year collectively sensitively is because of the personality, because
of the.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Coaching or what.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
That's because of the people. At the end of the day,
players are out there playing games, winning games. Coaches to me,
they want to get you in the best spot that
you could be in every time. But at the end
of the day, it's up to players to uh understand
where that best spot is for them.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Just for a few.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Weeks, extremely comfortable. I feel really good with the guys
around me. I know as a middle linebacker that I
need to trust in my positioning within the scheme of
the defense, which is usually in the center of the defense.
So I tell the guys around me go make plays.
I'll make you right, especially the guys in front of me.
(14:27):
I love an aggressive, hungry D line and it really
feels like we have that coming out this year. Team
Building is an important of course, that's that's everything for
us connect learn and train, and that's what we come
out here every day to get to know each other better.
Those uh interpersonal relationships that you have with guys in
(14:48):
the locker room pay dividends, especially later on in the
season when maybe you got to ask a guy to
push harder, to do more to help the team, and
you you build those relationships now so that you can
have the ability to to talk to guys on the team,
to ask more out of them, to get on the
same level of communication. So that's what we're looking at,
(15:10):
without a doubt, part of an example.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Of what you.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
In terms of yeah, we'd like to keep that private. Yeah,
thank you and.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Give your career path. You appreciate ronment where everybody comes
in here.
Speaker 6 (15:40):
And you.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Yeah, if you're not a starter. I tell the guys
that aren't starters to train as a starter, to prepare
to be a starter. I tell cam Riley, if you
don't come in here with the mindset every day that
you will be a starter, you never will. They never
expect young guys to coming this league as undrafted players
and to rise through the ranks. They don't want it
to happen. They don't expect it to happen. So I
(16:06):
tell all these young guys, you got to go make
that should happen. Like at the end of the day,
nobody expects an undrafted guy to become a three time
captain middle linebacker. But at the end of the day,
that's my story and I'm gonna stay true and help
other guys reach their dream too.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Thank you, guys,
