Speaker 1 (00:00):
They're pretty Uh, I would say neutral as far as
they were just kind of even. I was just trying
to focus on each day at the time, and you know,
things I can control and just how to be present.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You know, wherever I was to see your name was
possible trade.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Uh, I haven't. I haven't looked at it. You know,
obviously people haven't made it aware to me. But I
try to stay the same, just stay neutral. I don't
really have much to say about it.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
So do you feel like a sense of relief now
or how would you describe kind of just.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
How you're feeling.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I'm moving around to the other side.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
And you know, obviously the better I know, the prayer about,
(01:06):
the more compable I am the best, so I can
player healthy, same thing, and more I can stay healthy
and just stuff things down so healthy I can stay
it's the same thing better.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I thank you, thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
I'm very excited for sure, and I heard from Elliott himself.
I mean, you know, I'm just excited to be here
and you know, start this new chapter. So what was
a conversation like and who did you call right away
when you got there? Uh, you know, got to call
my family, called my girlfriend as well, those are the
first three people, my mom and dad and my girlfriend
and then you know, you know, I got a lot
(01:40):
of them, got a lot of love.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
So I was just you know, excited to see all
that when you began this journey and drafted Freeze out
of cal Pauly And what was it like coming over here?
And then how more how much more confident have you
gotten as you've progressed here through camping now through the
preseason for the regular season. Yeah, I mean, I was
just excited to go to work.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
You know, I was excited to have this opportunity and
it didn't really matter to me where I ended up
undrafted drafting. You know, I was excited to have an
opportunity here and you know, make a home for myself,
make a name for myself, and you know, like, you know,
I'm just gonna keep on going.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Where's the NFL dreams in your mind? How long has
it been in your mind of trying to make.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
It in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I mean you always have that thought when you when
you little and you playing football, you know, you see
all the.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
All the older guys playing on the NFL.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
You like, you know, I want to do that one day,
and you know, I think with me growing up, I
was switching different positions, didn't really know what stuck. I
think when it really started, the dream started coming to
live when I got to cal Poly, when I started
becoming a defense and you know, making name of myself there.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
So that's when the dream became real at least for me.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
And now you've made it, hungry are you to stay?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Yeah, Like I said, it's just the beginning, so I
mean a lot more work has to go into it.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
So I'm just excited to get started.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
I know you said it's only the beginning, But how
much has this environment here allowed you to grow and.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
Ultimately makes Yeah, I mean I think everybody, all the coaches,
all the the staff has you know, put in a
lot for me to you know, excel and to to
be my best. So I mean I take pride in
all of that and just keep using my opportunities.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
Mike Brey will mention how you being on special teams
so big even kind of helped the change to making
the roster What helped you kind of grow Cause I
need to do a lot of special teams.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
In powerwe can help What are these people to help
them asks?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I mean, I was.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
I was just willing to do that, you know, I
whatever to do to help the team out. So I mean, uh,
you know, taking the the coaching points from coach Springer
and just applying them to on the field daily and
just you know, just letting everything else play out the
way it needs to play out.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
How do you shift down from the emotions of make
the last like forevers you.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Now just getting on the field.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
And do you spoken about how think else puts Patriots football?
Speaker 5 (03:44):
I mean, I the most is it it's well, I'm
I want some new emotions. You know, it started winning
some some games, and so that that's like where the
focus is at. So you know, just going back into
the playbook, back into watching film and just you know,
get it, get the ball rolling.
Speaker 6 (03:57):
You know, the seon kind of be like a nerve
wracking ps for a lot of players.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
But what was your confidence level? So heading into this,
were you expecting to get a call orre you confident with.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
What you showed on the field.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Yeah, I mean I'm a big believer in you know,
everything will work out the way it needs to work out.
You know, I'm confident in my ability and what I
you know, can do on the field. So I mean,
I'll like just you know, take my opportunities and show
what I needed to show.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
And you know, I'm just glad to be in this position.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
So making the two it's pretty awesome, pretty special. Uh,
you know, put a lot of hard work into it.
But I can't thank you know, my coaches and the
guys around me for allowing me to take advantage opportunity,
and then coach for giving me the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
So I'm truly blessed, truly thankful and excited to kind
of take get after it. Kind of good seeers coming.
Did you? How'd you find out? Who did you call?
Speaker 8 (04:47):
I mean definitely, uh, always like you kind of hoped
for it, but I definitely was always just thinking about
how can I get better today? And then yesterday it happened,
and I was like, all right, we'll see what happens,
you know, and kind of go go with the flow
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
So, yeah, how did you find out? Like what were
you doing when you bought the call?
Speaker 8 (05:04):
Yeah, Elliott brought me into his office and told me
there and so it's pretty surreal, pretty sweet. Give him
a couple of hugs, man, I couldn't take of them enough.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
So pretty special moment.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And then who did you call first to help them?
Speaker 8 (05:16):
Girlfriend was actually here so I got to tell her,
which is awesome. And then my parents' best friend, college coach,
high school coach, a little bit of everyone. So everyone's
super excited and everyone's uh, you know, wishing me the
best as we move forward.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
What's your attitude now? Go forward?
Speaker 8 (05:32):
Same attitude? You know, Just how can I help the
team out? How can we win games? We'll like to
do just to continue to get better each and every day,
you know. I just feel like if I continue with
the attitude I had that got me here, it's going
to help me, allow me to grow and become a
better player, help me absolutely.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
How big of a role do you think special teams
will play in your spot on this team right now?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Yeah, I think it's huge.
Speaker 8 (05:52):
I think just think thinking my ability to do kind
of different roles and different stuff allowed me to stay
here longer and allow me to elevate my role into
different situations where I want to be on the field.
Speaker 7 (06:04):
I know there's been a lot of comparisons like the
months of Danny da during new contact or get in
touch with any of those guys.
Speaker 8 (06:12):
Yeah, talked to Danny when he was here for the
practice a couple of weeks ago, so got a quick.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Little conversation with him.
Speaker 8 (06:18):
Nothing with h Julian, but I saw like a little
podcast a little snippet of that.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
But that was pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (06:23):
But besides that, just kind of watching their film, trying
to study them, trying to do things that they did
here as well.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Loistic, what changes for you in the hotel and I
have to find like a place to live.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
In like all of that.
Speaker 8 (06:37):
Been in the hotel literally this morning and last night,
trying to find a new spot.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
But because I don't know how long we.
Speaker 8 (06:44):
Can stay in the hotel, but we'll see there. Uh
you know, we got great people here to help us
out with that, So just trying to lean on them
and lean on anyone that kind of the older guys
that have been been through it before.
Speaker 7 (06:59):
Now your years is that there's still pressure, but maybe
it's a different kind of pressure to make sure.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
You're holding onto Yeah.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
I think probably just expectations and stuff I put on
myself more more than anything about you know, just trying
to become the best player I can be with just
the standards I set for myself. If that's offense, Spushal
stands whatever it is is trying to be great and
every day we've been.
Speaker 7 (07:22):
Seeing you out in the field for the last week
or so. How difficult is that for you personally to
have to miss down with an injury.
Speaker 8 (07:28):
Yeah, definitely difficult, you know, because you want to be
out there, and especially be the undrafted guy. You know,
I feel like you're missing an opportunity and you know
that's how I felt. But just trying to do everything
I can to get back out there and excited to
get back out there with the guys and start running around.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
At what point in the day did Elliott call you
into his office, Like how long did you have to
sweat it out?
Speaker 8 (07:45):
It was probably like twelve okay, twelve one, so not
too bad, not too bad. But I was here working
out doing some stuff and then he told me to
come in and I was like, here we go.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
But it was pretty sweet.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
And so you wanted to be in the facility leading
up to or did you try to get away at all? No?
Speaker 8 (08:04):
I mean I knew often to come in work out,
do treatment, and so I was like, well, I've got
to do that. So I was like I'm gonna come
and do it and kind of see what happens from there.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
I think Drake said, maybe you're like the you're like
first team all treatment guy or something.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
He always joked me, He's like, man, you always in here.
I'm like, I'm just trying.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
To stay right man. So but yeah, why is that?
I mean, is that always been part of your routine?
Speaker 8 (08:29):
I just think, you know kind of availability is best
best ability?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
What is it? Availability is the best ability?
Speaker 8 (08:35):
Right? And uh, you know, for like for me to
not the other pasketal weeks really sucks. I'm in there
two three times a day trying to do as much
as I can to get back.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
So yeah, obviously you had a lot of catches in
the spring to start off the summer, you didn't have
his money, then really ramped up in.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
The last few weeks.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
What do you think that was and how much urgency
was there for you to to pick things up as
the summer along.
Speaker 8 (08:55):
Yeah, I just think it's just inconsistent my process with
whatever it is. You know, I can't old the ball
coming to me and what's going on with the defenses
doing stuff like that. So just continue to play ball
and then kind of let the results speak for itself.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Did you get a chance to talk to elid.
Speaker 8 (09:11):
Pretty You know, we're pending the same conference, we got
the same agent, so we spent a lot of time
together this offseason, training and stuff like that. So it's
pretty special to you know, just the Big Sky You know,
I love the Big CI and to compete against him
for four years and now we're both in the same
spot and we made the team, it's pretty special.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
What about being in the Big Sy Conference? Do you
feel like he'll prepare you to make the negotiations you.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Taking the inage.
Speaker 8 (09:31):
I think it's some of the best competition in the FCS.
I think each week we're playing against playoff teams, and
I think last year we had six teams in the
playoffs and we weren't even one of the We weren't
one of those teams, unfortunately. But we got great competition,
great coaches. They always pushing us. We always scheduled big games.
You know, I played Oregon, Florida, the Vada Pesident State,
so I got to those big games when I was there.
(09:51):
But you know, I just I love everything about the
Big Sky Conference.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
What excite your bust wide receiver groove man?
Speaker 9 (10:00):
The different personalities you know, Uh, it's it's fun, you
know with these guys, and you got different personalities. You know,
you got Matt the Matt Holland's you know, that's a
different you know stuff, and uh.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Great leaders I feel like we got great leadership in
our in our room.
Speaker 9 (10:16):
And you know, coach TD I felt like he's he's
been doing a great job with us and you know
he got that QB and you know, uh he got
an Office of Coordinator mindset too. So that's what makes
it our room better.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
Talked about the you know, getting the word officially, what's that?
Speaker 2 (10:31):
How much can you relate to that?
Speaker 9 (10:33):
And just say, man, I'm proud of him. Man if
y'all seen what he's been doing. Man, y'all been up
practices in the games. Man, I'm super proud of him.
And uh you feel me. He's been he's been doing
this thing and from he's been taking it from the
classroom to the field. And uh, I'm definitely proud on the.
Speaker 7 (10:50):
Flip side of that team, Kendrick toughness that what did
you learn from him or.
Speaker 9 (10:54):
What do you need to man that you know that
that one hurts, you know that that guy he brought
you know, energy and nothing but smiles.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
You know.
Speaker 9 (11:01):
Uh, but you know that's how the game go. You know,
you get close to somebody and the next day they
could be gone. But it's it's it's okay because I
know he's gonna land somewhere, you know, from a lot.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
You know.
Speaker 9 (11:15):
Just I say, man, no matter what you're going through,
you know, uh, he come in with a smile on
his face. So I feel like he doesn't show, you know,
when he's down. I feel like that's that's a strength.
So I learned that, you know, come in here, no
matter what I'm going through, just come in there and
you know, smile.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
You know I can put a smile on somebody else face.
How about you full board now getting ready for the raiders?
Say it again? How about you full board as a
group getting ready for the races? Ready?
Speaker 9 (11:40):
Uh, you know, just keep practicing. Stacking days, we come snack,
we stacked days. I feel like, uh, you could come
out and be you know, prepared.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Thank thank you. How much did you learn from the adjustment?
Speaker 4 (11:53):
How did you learn?
Speaker 6 (11:54):
I learned a lot.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (11:56):
You know this has probably been one more or you know, difficult,
not difficult, but like just I had a big time
of just I've been I've been in a similar defense
since college.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Uh, you know three four the record, Uh, you.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
Know, just the scheme, you know, having to learn a
new scheme to learning you know, coaches.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Players and you know, how to do my job differently.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
You know, it's just been you know, it's been humbling
for me, you know, just.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
Uh to be able to do that. And you know,
I'm looking forward to the Chief City to be the Patriot.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
I mean a lot, but at the end of the
day at art, I'm a Patriots. You know. I love
being our are I love playing.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
Yea looking forward to the season.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
I know you just mentioned there was a lot of
adjustment this offseason.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Mike Gravel last week kind of complimented your mindset and
your ability to taking us your opportunities.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Where does that approach come from with you?
Speaker 3 (12:52):
And like, what was your mental approach to this whole
summer now looking back on it.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Yeah, I mean I think it's just come with you know,
being a professional.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
Uh. You know, at the end of the day, I
can only control what I can control everything else, you know,
I've got no control over that, Uh, but I can't
control my attitude And like effort and you know Hodds
or up.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Uh. So that's what I try to focus on as
a team. Now, how much you can go mode get
ready for the Raiders coming up a week on Sunday. Yeah,
I mean, I think we all excited about it. You know,
we've been practicing against each other.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
For you know, nothing to have a off season, uh,
you know, OTAs we're looking at focus on on somebody
else and you know, bat and start snacking wings.
Speaker 7 (13:28):
You mentioned you've been in a similar system since since Alabama.
Is there an aspect of it it might be a
little bit fun to how have to like read as
much in the ski fancy be alder gotta.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
Feel Yeah, I mean, uh, you know, it's just just
being able to, you know, do different things and you know, uh, you.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Know, just mix it up.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
You know, I've been doing those certain things and now
I can mix it up and you know, like you said,
let it go a little bit and you know, looking forward.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
To really hasn't helped to have a guy like Harold
Langer in the room who's been in the system before
and obviously has a ton of experiencing it.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 6 (13:59):
I mean, we got a lot of Veteregan guys he
on casey uh, you know, the younger guys, they're coming along.
And you know Mike smill he coached a lot of
good players played in the league, so his perspective, you know,
kind of mean a lot.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
So we're just looking forward to women. Thank you, thank
