Speaker 1 (00:00):
I think the five plus beats in the voluntary program.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
How would you describe what it's.
Speaker 3 (00:05):
Been like for you in your voluntary program?
Speaker 4 (00:08):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (00:09):
So been worked.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Uh, just coming in, trying to learn the new system. Uh,
learn my teammates. Uh, try to put uh names with
faces and uh, just getting familiar with the playbook. Uh
a lot of terminology, new terminology I'm trying to learn.
But now just been working. Just tryna come in set
(00:32):
example and just go to work when it when it's
time to.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
With Terrella being away from the team, how would you
describe the current set up with the coaches.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Nah, it's been good and it's been good. He been
he been talking to us on soon, communicating with us.
How you been feeling what's been going on? Saying he's
uh doing doing better. Hes gonna see us soon. But
it's still I don't think it's uh we missed a
beat yet, just kind of installing installing uh uh our
scheme uh throughout this whole time, and like I said,
(01:05):
just trying to get familiar with it and what does
not keep out sack he he he's the one kind
of really doing like the most speaking in the in
the defensive room. So I'm pretty sure that when uh
coach T come back, he canna resume that role of
you know, command in the room when when the whole
defense in there. But I guess he kind of just
uh coach T maulpiece.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Right now the first time in a on a new team.
Just do you do you.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Come to this situation? What do you try to show
shay a lot with your coaches and you open to foot.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
With your teams?
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Shoot, I'm reliable. Uh trust you can trust me to
you know, do my job, uh or whatever they need
me to do. Uh, being productive for wherever they want
me to line up, and just just being a leader, uh,
leading by example, not really not really a r RAH guy,
just kind of just what they ask us to do,
do it and just lead by example hopefully to see
(02:00):
me working and they they'll want to follow suit, and
you know, just try to try to bring everybody along
to what we're trying to be here.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
Phil, How is your your training maybe changed, if at all?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I remember, you know when you initially signed Mike and
you talked about how you know you're gonna be playing
probably more here than you did, just in terms of
the number of snaps that you did in Philly. So
right now when you're working out, has anything changed for
you to to get you ready for that added work book?
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Nah, I haven't really sure.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I'm my off season wasn't really that long before I
got back. I had to come out here to try
to find somewhere to live, get moved and just moving
around a lot. So I've been here most of the time.
I haven't really got some my off season. China was
gonna be back in Texas. I ain't really got back
to it. But I've just been out here working with
the guys, working with the strength staff here. Uh, just
(02:50):
coming in and doing what I gotta do for my body,
recovering and uh, just going hard.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I say, like the first first week we was out
there running and and coach Coach Ray called me out
in front of everybody, which I like, So he called
me out. Let me know, like, hey, like you're gonna
be here, You're gonna be here. You need to like,
you know, set the standard. And after that it's been
like okay, So I've been trying to make sure I'm
doing that every day. Every day I come in, just
(03:17):
trying to put my best foot forward and go from there.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Why did he call you out and you take uh
just instead of.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Like we running and we got time, we're supposed to
make it in, so I didn't already like made it
on my way back. So I'm kind of like chilling
until I get to the line. He's like, nah, like
don't let him catch it. Like if you can make
it faster, make it.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
So I'm like all right.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
So every rip since then, I've just been trying to
make sure I'm the first one back. So I feel
like this is gonna help me, uh just push me
to get to where I want to be. And then oh,
the guys that's running with me, they's gonna push them
to run even harder.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
So it's good.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
So it's like from finishing fasters or other what things
you're doing to you say, kind of put your best
foot boards.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
It's like said that man just trying to show up
every day.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Uh, just paying attention to all the details, uh, picking
his brain whenever he come in our room or whenever
he working with us their individual uh getting with Coach Clinton,
you know, just asking them, you know, where they best
see me fitting at and in the defense and uh
what do they expect from me going forward? And just
(04:30):
just anything I can do to you know, set the
set the tone.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
When I can hear he Preble has some more of
a hands on coaching in the style.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
What's that been like to see him, like if he
throwing the pads with you guys and just got him into.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
All the trails.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
No, it's good.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
You know, him being a former player being the players coach.
He he know it's like the the city and the
season we've been there. Uh he didn't played and won
at the highest level, so he know what it's like.
And just to have a coach that's been there, done that,
you know, out there still trying to trying to give
us looks and things like that. It just, you know,
it just gives you more energy to you know, do
(05:07):
what you gotta do and play put it all on
the line for him.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
What's it like working right now?
Speaker 5 (05:13):
It's been good. It's been good.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Me and him been been competing every day coming in
trying to see We've been joking with each other, trying
to see who who're gonna beat each other in and
when we come in the morning. But now it's been good.
Me and him just been having conversations about you know,
the defense, gonna start and end with what we do
up front, and we every day we come in, we
gotta set the tone and then everybody else gonna follow.
(05:37):
But we try to me and him to set the
table for for the defense that we're gonna beat this year,
and we're gonna have to carry us through it throughout
the year.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
What would the scoreboards say, who's gotten in earlier more days?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Uh, I ain't gonna say, I ain't. I ain't gonna
I ain't gonna let you out in on that. But
we've been competing.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Let me just say that, going back to your explaining
end up the sprints, but you have to make it
at a certain time.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Yeah, any time. Yeah, I was making any time.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Yeah, and then it's like running back to where you
started from or like jogging back like that.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
So it was like we get to the line, then
we gotta run back and make it back to the
gold line at a certain time. So I didne got
out food coming back, and then I'm kind of like,
just make it. Yeah, I knew I was gonna make it,
So I'm just like he want me to just go
ahead and just empty the tank every rip, So I like,
(06:33):
like I said, I like that. I don't mind. I
I don't think I'm bigger than the next person. I
don't mind getting called out because he calling me out.
That just gonna help help the other guys. You know,
we ain't got no excuses for nobody to be, you know,
not not giving it at all. So I don't mind
it I'm calling out.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
We also, I we've heard from some others that he
calls out their meetings to.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Like make sure plutless, can you take us through y
out a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
And then to kind of take on that.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
I mean it's I like that too.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
You know, it's just keeping people on their toes, making
sure everybody's paying attention, make sure you're taking notes, uh
when they they're not in there showing us, showing us
to stuff for no reason, So you need to be
in there paying attention. And they ain't doing nothing but
helping us girl as a team, you know, getting everybody
on the same page. And like I said, it's just
it's just uh good good for our team. Make sure
(07:24):
everybody is listening and paying attention and uh just doing
what they're supposed to do. So when you get out
in the field, there's no no questions asked.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
You've been able to achieve anything that you've always wanted
to purchase, wise with the contract and if you're comfortable.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
To there and something like that.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Uh, just taking care of my mom by time, my
parents was a big thing for me. Uh, just making
sure that they're gonna be good. They don't need to
they don't gotta work as hard as they've been working,
uh to get me this opportunity that I got right now.
So just trying to pay it back to them. Just
(08:05):
thankful for them for just being there, pushing me even
when I ain't feel like doing whatever, you know, just
being there every step of the way. So I'll make
sure I'll take care of them, uh my sisters, you know,
really just getting them everything they need, not as much
everything that they want, but getting what they need. And
uh got me a house, so I finally did that,
(08:27):
finally got out the hotel.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
So aside from the terminology and all of their faces around,
where are the biggest areas of transition the defensive play
Philly to the defense you're learning anyway, It's.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
A lot, I'll say, it's a lot of similarities. It's
just it's really just uh terminology, it's really just a
terminology uh from a big fangaiel of the coach t.
But a lot of the same fronts, a lot of
the same uh, a lot of the same scheme. Just
it's just different words. But it's a lot of little
little d answers to to some calls, you know, some
(09:03):
chicks and some excuse me, some different stunts, but it's
pretty it's pretty much pretty much the same kind of concept.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Thanks, all right, I'll go what's up? Well, how y'all doing?
Like having him out they're eagle, I do. I do
call him e c.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
That's his nickname for me. But it's good just helping
him out, you know, being their form, same school, familiar
with you know, how things are. It's good to have
somebody around like that.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
It's good.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
It's good as well man, you know, going on your nine.
So it's a blessing. Just looking forward to you know,
keep growing.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Okay, like what had your vision? Just doing what was
supposed to do, you know, being supposed to be and
just applying it every day.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
You know, I didn't have OTA's last year, so just
really enjoying the process, you know what I'm saying, Really
soaking it all in, being able to polish up before
the camp season.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
It just it feels great.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
It's different, so you know, I didn't have that perspective
before the a CL So just being in that space,
you know, it's it's it's more precious.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Now.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
What's a been life To be reunited with Josh.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Today, It's been great. Been four years since and just
to see him, man, it's been awesome. Definitely, Like hitting
off where we left off has been great. Very familiar
with him. He's familiar with me, so it's just an
honor to be back with him. We know its history
and everything he's done. Twenty one was great, but you
know everything's about twenty five and look forward to that.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
So it's just been good building with him so far.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
You well, yeah, absolutely, as we all know, I had
my best year under him, and you know, to look
forward to that. You know, I don't not banking on that.
You know, I work every year. Every year is different,
So I'm coming into the year just with that mentality,
but understanding that, you know, relationships are big in this
(11:13):
league and if I can build off of that, it'll
help me in whatever area of that is to be better.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
But I love his offense.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
I'm familiar with it, and I just kind of know
where I fit in, plug and play different things, and
I just try to excel at what he wants me
to do.
Speaker 6 (11:28):
What's different Josh since the last time to.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Work with him.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
He looks great. He looks great. Yeah, he looks really good.
I was just telling him that, teasing him, but he
I just love his energy. Man, not too much different.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
He's kind of the same guy, you know, very hard worker,
precise about what he wants done, and I love that.
You know, we're chasing perfection, but we can never be perfect.
But if we can train like that, practice like that,
try to get as close as we can Toda. I
think the execution presents itself in that.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
So that's kind of what I noticed.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
He's kind of saying, God, he looks different physically, but
the mental and the guru is in there, and I'm
glad to be value with it for twelve seasons.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
How do you expect this competent that the competition you
ship up this offseason and then what do you what
do you need to do this or let you understand
the time?
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Yeah, that's a good question, you know. I think just
work every day.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
I don't try to control everything you know, I just
try to do what I'm supposed to do, you know,
like not overthink it. Just do the work, you know,
do the best I can when we go out to practice,
when we're in the meetings, just put my best foot forward.
I think that always plays itself out. But not try
too hard. I think I think that becomes an issue
when you try to overthink. You're trying to do too
much to like control the outcome. You know, when you
(12:41):
just let it flow and let it come to you,
the game come to you, you study, you do what
you're supposed to do, I.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
Think it naturally comes.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
And just like what I was telling Mike, you know,
not having the off season things like that, I really
feel good about where I'm at because coming in throwing
last year was tough, coming off injury, it was really
tough me actually underestimated. And so this year, you know,
I feel really really strong, really polished, and just banging
on that.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
In my situation, I'm curious what's coming off being for you.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
You've been posting up, you know, a lot of workout with.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
You, and it's like, God, what are you kind.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Of expecting from yourself this season?
Speaker 5 (13:17):
What could the fans kind of extect from to see
from you because.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
They get to really see like the bullcund before and
last season.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Yeah, just really being conditioned, being trained, having the feel
My awareness was down last year, people being around me.
That was my biggest struggle coming back from injury. It
was easy to go through the motions when I'm by myself,
but then when there's people around you, my awareness was
it lacked my first few games. And so I hope
(13:44):
to be shot out of a cannon when I come
out because being in OTAs, being in camp is going
to give me that feel I have more awareness. I'll
know when to break certain things, how to adjust off
of a defender. Those reps are rare and I never
experienced that. So it's just space I'm in. Going back
to what might ask me that space is just unique
(14:04):
and I'm very thankful for it. So no predictions, nothing
like that. But I feel good, and you know, coming
in with good energy, practicing hard, you get good results
from that.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Now that you're kind of have some space away from
coming back from that injury, to look back on it,
I feel like there was something with your confidence that
was shaken a moment.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
If we're out there, not like you weren't going out
there thinking I'm going to execute everything and how the
right mindset, but just almost like physically your confidence because.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
Yes, yes it's a different world.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
You know, my knee has it has had a world
of its own in that sense when I come back
from a tough surgery.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
So it was just trusting myself.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
So the confidence was there, but then your body responds different,
so now I have to adjust to my body. So
where I'm at now is there's no question about when
I'm making this cut, the defender being there, I'm confident
to maybe go around him or whatever movement I have
to make. It's just more confidence after almost two years now,
So that was a difference. It was never the confidence
(15:02):
in my mind. It was just the mind and body
being connected to do exactly what I was trying to do.
And because sometimes when you come from injury, it can
be a movement and your body doesn't go how you
thought it was going to go, so then it kind
of question.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
It makes you makes you question your confidence.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
So I'm eliminating that now and where I'm at, I'm
just I'm thankful and I'm blessed, and I attacked the
rehab in that process, and I'm saying having camping and
everything now, I'm excited about it.
Speaker 6 (15:29):
You see from Drake in terms of leadership this time
of year. Obviously last year he's a young guy. Jakobe's
here and so it's a little bit different. But have
you noticed anything different from Drake this offseason?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
I think it's kind of the same. The confidence is there, Uh,
maybe maybe even more confidence. He's just obviously he's gonna
be in a new system, so I think he's in
that process. He's learning, but the confidence is there. Drake
is a competitor when we do certain things, like his
competitive spirit is starting to show more in my opinion,
at which I love coming out of that shell. You know,
(16:02):
he's going to become a vet. So I think that's
what he's embracing. He understands, he's familiar with what to expect,
what to feel, and that just creates a better confident
quarterback going into.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Ye two somethings. The competitive just show itself.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
We were doing some drills and we were just competing
pushing sleds and and he was very competitive. We're looking
at each other side to side and we compete and
who pushes longer? And it was just dope to hear
that from him, like, you know, yeah, we get you know,
just that competitive spirit. It creates competition. It creates us
to be better. We want to beat each other to
in a race or whatever it is, conditioning and things
(16:40):
like that when you do things and he just competes,
and you love to see that from your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Next to each other O versus T What was that?
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Yeah, yeah, just next to each other pushing sleds.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
So I as a group, what's something new you've learned
about a new teammate, free age and or a draft
pick that has you excited?
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Mat mac mac holland. He's very competitive. He is awesome man.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Just being around him that energy is just special. I've
never been around somebody like him. So I'm in the
weight room pushing us everything. He kind of said, you know,
in his press conferences. I've watched him and he's standing
on it, and I love that. It creates competitiveness and
you know, us to push each other. So I kind
of learned that about him. Obviously he has all his
antics with the shoes and stuff, but he being around
(17:25):
him now, learning him personal is dope and and it's genuine.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
And I love that that character. Have you had a
chance to shok Yeah, yeah, I met him a little bit.
It was dope. He looks great and everything.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
So just glad to be around a vet like that,
somebody has experience with it and just ready to learn
and pick his brain of what I can take from it.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
It's crazy, bro shout out
