Speaker 1 (01:15):
You're a picture. No, it's after good afternoon everyone, and welcome.
It's always special to welcome a new Patriot. And today's
presentation carries a special value to me because twenty five
(01:40):
years ago, as the stadium was being constructed, we started
a tradition that brings pride and promise to the bringing
the Patriots top pick out here and presenting him with
a number one jersey. And that tradition started exactly twenty
(02:05):
five years ago when we brought Richard Seymour here and
presented him with the number one jersey. And today we
continue that tradition and legacy with another young man that
hopefully will bring us into a new era the same
(02:28):
way Richard did.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
In his early years.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So it's a great honor for me to introduce our
number one draft pick, Will Thorn, Will Campbell here and.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, mhm h yeah, let's.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Mhm.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
What's going on? How y'all doing? First off, for any questions,
I just want to, you know, say a special thank
you to the crafts, uh, the entire Patriots coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
It's a complete honor and privilege to represent this organization.
I'm super excited to be a part of this and
I'm looking forward to what the future holds and wing
open up with some questions.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Well, very passionately, sorry about that. Last night, you spoke
very passionately about a conversation you had with Elliott Wolfe
in week five of last year where you said New
England is where I want to go to. New England
is where I want to play. What was the spark
maybe behind that passion? And given the fact that there's
a whole new coaching staff here, I don't think Drake
(04:33):
had even played at that point.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
What caused you to think that way?
Speaker 5 (04:36):
And I guess that is this the culmination of that conversation?
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, I think you know, the.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Biggest thing for me was I wanted to play for
an organization that had history, that cared, that wants to win.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
That's the thing for me.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
I want to come in and I want to win,
and I'm want to do whatever it takes to help
the team win. And you know, Drake is a heck
of a player. I'm super excited to, you know, build
our relationship Coach Brable as a guy that I want
to play for. This is an organization, you know, the
the proof is in the pudding with this place and
that's something that I want to be a part of.
(05:11):
So for me to be able to represent you know,
this organization where that logo on the side of my
helmet and on the front of my jersey, it's everything
I could ever ask for.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Hey, well over here, welcome to New England. Congratulations and
getting drafted. Coach Brabel told us yesterday about your workout.
You know, we know we had the blocking pad, you
put them on the ground setting that aside. He'd also
expressed he could tell in your eyes you made a
point that day to get drafted number four overall. Can
you provide some more detail what that visit and workout
(05:43):
was like and what you did to obviously deliver yourself
as a number four pick.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I mean for me, it was just coming out there
and you know, giving them everything that they flew down
there to get, showing how intense I was, how coachable
I can be, and just really how and all eyes
on what they wanted to see, whatever they wanted to see,
I was willing to do no matter what it was,
and that's something that I just wanted them to know
(06:08):
because I'm going to do whatever they asked me to
do to help this team win.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
In any way that I can.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
It Will.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Congratulations, Welcome to New England.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Mike Rabe was saying yesterday that sounds like you're probably
gonna play left tackle here at least give you that opportunity.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
What does that mean to you?
Speaker 2 (06:27):
And how important is that to you to play left tackle?
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, I mean it's a pretty cool opportunity to have,
you know, I'm just super thankful for them giving me
this opportunity, to them believing in me. I'm super excited
for what the future holds here and I really just
can't wait to get back out here after to day
and get back to work.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Hi, Will, congratulations on getting drafted.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
I'm just curious.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
I know you were number sixty six at LSU and
it seems like you're gonna wear that here as well.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Just what's the significins of that number for you? Yeah,
I mean it's just something I started wearing my freshman
year in high school. That number is gone with me
as I've grown as a player and I continue to
grow as a player. So I'm just super thankful that
Wes was able to, you know, let me wear that
and then it all just worked out.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
But yeah, I'm just looking forward to it will nice
to meet you. Congratulations. What has today been like for you?
What have you been doing?
Speaker 3 (07:32):
You know, you got on the plane, you came here,
what did what did you do with the ownership group?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
And what have you done since you've gotten here to Foxborough?
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, I mean this we flew in this morning, had
some breakfast things like that. But it's just been really
everybody meeting my family. You know, we're out of the
you know, it's that interview process now it's you know,
it's over. So now it's all about, you know, the
next step and that's how us getting ready to go
play this coming up season and you know, just being
up here, you know, still building a relationship with all
(08:02):
the coaches and things like that, meeting some of the guys.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Uh so yeah, that's really what Canday has consisted of
a well, congratulations, welcome to New England. I'm curious what's
it meant for you working with Duke manny Weather.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I know you guys have been doing some stuff together,
and how do you feel like he's helped you advance
your game in the time.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
That you happen together.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yeah, for sure, Duke is the best I think when
it comes you know, offensive line training. You know, the
guys that he trained speechs for themselves. I think you
know this past season he trained eight Pro Bowlers, So
you know, that's something I want to be a part of,
you know, and he's very you know, hands on.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That's what I like. That's what I like about coach
Rabel too.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
And so for me to be able to go and
work with him, I had the opportunity whenever I was
in college, and I knew that after the you know,
those two days they're training with him, that that's where
I was going to be as long as I'm playing, sir,
I will congratulations.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I'm just curious as you walked in today, your first
thoughts of Jillette Stadium. Oh, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
You know, whenever I came here for my thirty visit
right after the NFL Combine, you know, I walked in
here and came in right over there. You know, whenever
you come up here, you always see it on TV
and all the history you know that comes with this stadium.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
For me to be able to, you know, put that
jersey on and.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Run out of that tunnel here coming up soon, it's
gonna be pretty special.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Well, welcome to New England. Just wondering Drake May posted
last night on on X he said love this guy
already after some of your comments last night, Just two questions.
Have you had the opportunity to speak with Drake May
and just generally your reaction to his comments last night.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, I mean that's my quarterback, so I'm just super
excited to continue to build the relationship with him, get
to know each other as people. It's something I'm looking
forward to. I'm a quarterback guy. I care about him
a lot off the field and on the field. Then, yeah,
we were able to talk. He met my family, so
that was pretty cool. I just talked for a little bit.
(10:07):
He had to do some stuff and things like that
and we had stuff to do. But you know, it
was short and sweet. But you know that relationship will
continue to grow, you know, as more as I'm up here.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
He well, we'll come to New England.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
I just wondering if you haven't talked to Josh McDaniels,
and how do you see yourself faking his offensive.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
I was able to talk to, you know, coach McDaniels
whenever I was up here on my thirty visit. And
you know he's been here for so long. I mean,
it's just the honor to play for him. He's coached
a lot of good offenses, you know, in his years here,
and I'm just super excited to get to work with him.
I'll do whatever you ask of me, and I'm just
really honored to be able to play for him.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Hey, we'll back over here.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Coach Rabels talked a lot about culture, and it seems
like that was something that appealed when he drafted you.
What is your goal, your vision, how you intend to
help him rebuild that here as Mike's first first round pick.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah, culture is everything.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Culture wins you games, that goes for you know, any
stage of any sport and be high school, college, NFL.
That's what's going to set you up for success in
the long run because whenever you have that bond and
you know the trust and the guy next to you
in that relationship, you're willing to do whatever to make
sure that you succeed and not let the guy next
to you down. And you know, that's something that I'm
(11:30):
all about. I want everybody on the field to know
that I'm going to give them everything I have. I
want them to have full trust in me and that
I'm going to execute my job and let's just go
win some games.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Hey, well, who has made the trip with you here today?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
And maybe share what those people mean to you.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Yeah, my mom, dad, my brother, my girlfriend, and my
agent and my co agent are here. And you know,
those are people that have done everything for me, especially
my family and my girlfriend. They've been with me for
a long a lot longer my agent has. But I'm
just super thankful for them. They're people that I lean on,
you know, in this process and even outside of the
(12:13):
you know, the football aspect of things, and you know,
I'm super lucky to have them. They're the best, you know,
circle that I could ask for. And yeah, I love
them all.
Speaker 7 (12:26):
Well, we'll come to New England and congratulations. You describe
your play style as nasty on the field. How do
you describe your off field personality in the locker room?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Yeah, I mean, I think I'm a very personable guy.
One thing about me is I can relate to anybody.
Coming from Louisiana, you have a chance to meet all
different types of people and I'm able to create a
relationship with whoever that might be able to understand people
no matter where they come from. Who they are, and
I'm just a personal guy. I can get along with anybody.
(13:00):
I like to talk to people. I can conversate with anybody,
whoever it might be. But yeah, in the locker room,
I just want, you know, everybody to give their best
every single day, expect the best out of each other,
and just push each other to, you know, the best
of each other's ability.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Well, you were just speaking about kind of off the field.
I know you have a very giving personality and charities
that you contribute to. I'm just curious how and if
you plan on bringing that giving up here to New England,
giving back.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
To this community.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
This is the community that supports us. This is a
community that fills up these seats in this stadium. So
you know, I feel like that's a service you have
to do and that I want to do. It's something
that I've done not just in my community where I
grew up, but throughout the state of Louisiana. So for
me to be able to do that here I think
would be really special and it's something I look forward
to doing.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I will congratulations.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I wanted to ask you, coming from the SEC you're
obviously used to high expectations and a high level of play.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
How do you feel like that prepared you for the
expectations of the fans in New England?
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Definitely. You know, LSU is the most premier university in
the country.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Everybody that goes to LSU has opportunity, you know, play
in stadiums like these.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
And you notice everything I could have asked for. The
guys that came way before me laid the blueprint for
guys like me to come in and just follow and
trust in and just work towards. They laid the foundation.
I just had to, you know, follow the blueprint. And
you know, I just feel like it's the closest thing
to the NFL that you can get. And I'm just
super thankful for everything they've done for me, not only
(14:42):
on the field but off the field. And I feel
like they prepare mey sir, Thank y'all.
