This is the Patriots Postgame Show presented by Draft Kings.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
First shot dive for the eide touchdown.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Patriots joined the conversation by calling into the show at
eighty five to five Pats five hundred yards or email
us at podcasts at Patriots dot com.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
Hand off to Stevenson, Well, that's.
Speaker 5 (00:29):
A left, big hole across the forty cuts left in
the forty five and steam rolls to the defender.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
There live from our studio inside you at stadium. This
is the Patriots Postgame Show presented by Draft Kings.
Speaker 6 (00:43):
Welcome in, friends. How about that a forty eight eighteen
file for the first game of the season with the
Patriots Paul Deuce Claudia with you. I mean, we talked
about Trevon Henderson so much before before this game, and
then he does what he does opening kickoff return one
hundred yard touchdown. Man, it's a.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Great way to start a season. I mean, all around,
from the first play to the very last score, just
felt like a you know, renewed sense of energy. The
Tom Brady statue thing I think helped a little bit too,
but just overall, you can't imagine a better start for
Mike Brabel's team in this It's a preseason game, I know,
but it's it's a great night I think for this.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I don't want to get too lost for the preseason game,
but I think they're going to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
Are recrditing Tom Brady.
Speaker 7 (01:25):
For the.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Agree totally, Mike. You know, Mike and I talked a
little bit, you know, in the studio before. I do
feel like it was there was some importance to playing
in the style that Mike has been talking about. We
want to finish plays. We want to be tough and physical.
We want to you know, kind of be able to
tackle and break tackles and you know, play through contact
(01:49):
and the level of physicality to me, jumped jumped off
the screen all night from the very first play. And
you watch the replay of when Henderson makes his cut
to get to Green, and I don't know exactly who
was making the block, but someone was burying a guy
for Washington almost to the point where I looked at
it, I was like, oh, well they missed a hole there. Nope,
(02:11):
just a pancake block. So I do think there was
there was an importance to the energy that the Patriots
came out with tonight. Look, I'm not gonna get lost
in the result forty eight to eighteen, but the way
they played tonight carries over that I think was an
important start.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
Yeah, for sure, there was definitely a different energy. And
I know Steph Diggs wasn't out there playing, but if
you saw him on the sideline and his bucket hat,
he was all pumped up with the affstentism touchdown, and
there was it was a different vibe completely from what
we saw.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
As you know. What stood out to me too, was
just at the end of the game and Jordan Polk
had an interception and like the whole team is going
over him. Rable's talking to him, and you know, it's
just it's hard to read it too much into these things,
but from the surface level, watching this team come together,
it just it feels like a football team. To me,
That's what I've been saying through camp. It just this
feels like a football team that's going to have an identity,
that knows who want to be, that has a head
(03:01):
coach that you know is instilling the sense of what
we want, how we want to play the game, And
you know you're taking a look at the play right here.
I mean, just what a way to start a season.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Block right there up to the top, he was just
he just.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
We got to go. We're going. We're going to Kennedy Films.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Look right around the thirty yard line, there's a guy
locked up and watched boo oh oh just buries them.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
He knew from the starting was taking out.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
You can tell it guy? Is it ninety one? Who
is it?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
The ponder? Maybe back into the Lost.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
I can't tell who it is, but it's just like
the physicality that that guy could not make the play.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
In Austin Hooper. Maybe I don't know, we'll get it
on the film, but what a way to start it,
especially because you said, Claudy, we talk about man. Travon
Henderson has just been so explosive delivering big plays. And
you know, Paul, how many times we watched this patriotsimo
over the last few years and it's like they're in
a seven to nothing hole, ten to nothing hole in
the first quarter, and you know, it's plays like that
where you know, we didn't even set it up that
(03:59):
this is a guy that's going to contribute on special
teams as well. But but there it is right out
of the gate, seven nothing lead, and that's so important
to every team in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
And the perfect thing for Vrabel is he's going to
and he talked about it with Steve Burton at halftime.
He's gonna have plenty of things that he's gonna bitch about,
so he's gonna have things that he wants to correct.
You know, they had some penalties that were offsetting, so
they didn't affect anything the turnover. So you do all
of these great things and you have all this excitement.
I had like three different people texting me tonight. I said,
(04:27):
this is this is the most fun I've had Washington
Patriots game in three years. Yeah, it's a preseason game. Yeah,
so there's a lot of excitement, a lot of enthusiasm,
and the head coach is gonna have plenty of things
that he's gonna want to button up in straighten out.
So I think it was a really really good start.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, there's a.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Lot of good. There was a little bad. One injured.
We'll get to and I will say to a cynical
way to look at it is, yes, they scored forty
eight points, but it also was against the twos and
the threes right, and Washington never really had a good
defense to begin with, even when it is third starters.
Is that a too cynical way to look at it.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
No, I think that's a really good point, and Paul
said something similar to the fact. Yeah, I know that
the Patriots are playing most of their starters, especially their
starting defense played for a while against Washington, who seemed
their philosophy maybe shut it down a little bit, protect
a few more of those guys, But it still counts
for something, I think, and that's what to me, the
energy that they played with. You know, Vrabel's been on
them about celebrating touchdowns and all those little things, and
(05:18):
you could just feel all that kind of coming together.
Special teams, offense, defense. They did it in all three phases.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
I think defense for me stood out the most. That
was going to be my good We'll go around with
our goods and then get to the bads. I mean, again,
it wasn't the starters for Washington's offense, but I think
they just made life kind of hell. They stopped the run,
they couldn't really pass, and that's not so much Sam
Hartman thing. I think the coverage was just good. They
(05:44):
went just three of eleven on third down, and after that,
Drake may fumble too, you kind of you know, maybe
the energy went down, but then the defense picked it
right back up. But the quick three and out obviously
they missed.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
The kick, So it's a huge situational quick change. I
mean Rabel mentioned it too. That's something you look for.
You your offense has a turnover, you want your defense to
come out and pick them back up. So a little
bit of complimentary football here in the preseason's kind of nice.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, I thought just the start, though, is hard to ignore.
You know that I have a hard time going anywhere.
But Trevion Henderson with my first good It just the
electricity that he brought to the crowd to you know,
with the way he started off the game. But more importantly,
kickoff returns obviously, those are great. You can't count on
(06:29):
that every week. I can't count on the way he
finished some of those runs. I know Zoe was really
you know, hammering at home during the broadcast, But we
know how fast he is, we know how electric he
is in space. You're starting to learn that he's not
just a scat back. He's gonna finish these runs. He's
gonna you know, he's gonna fall forward and get those
extra yards. He's making guys pay, you know, at the
(06:52):
end of these runs. So it was the physicality that
really stood out to me for everybody, but Henderson's combination
of speed and power was impressive. Yeah, that was my
number one.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Good all right, cool, keeping it going, Yeah, keep it going.
All right. I'm gonna pegegyback on a little bit and
say special teams, and I know that that little crossover
with that with Henderson, but you had another great kickoff
return yep by number four Antonio Gibson, and then you
had Parker Romo hitting a fifty seven yard field goal.
I didn't have that on my Bengo card. That kicker competition.
(07:25):
I think all those those guys were perfect tonight for
I don't know exactly what the numbers were dividing up
the kicks, but I mean, anytime somebody hits a fifty
seven yard field goal, you can't ignore that those guys
have been neck and neck. But I thought a great
night for Jeremy Springer's units, showing that this third phase
special teams can can maybe contribute some big plays and
help the offense out a little bit. We don't really
(07:46):
didn't even see Marcus Jones get a chance to get loose,
and coming into the season, he seemed like the best
part of this. So, you know, between Henderson and the kickoffs,
between the field goal guys, it seems like special teams
played well across the board.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
And it's something Verbel talked about a lot with the kickoff,
you know, the changing the rule to go to the
thirty five. You've heard him mention that many times this summer.
So the kickoff return I think has been an area
of extra attention for them, and you know, you're right,
maybe that's another way that you can get some some
easy points. They got two touchdowns off of it tonight.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
And several guys who can be in that position as well.
Cynthia writes to us, Greetings, the team look great. I'm
tempering my enthusiasm, but it's hard. It felt good to
feel good about the team again. And with that, Cynthia,
we go to the bad because there was a lot
of good we got.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
We got a lot of good. We got a lot
of good. We're not going to the bad. Yeah, in Claudia,
we got a lot of good.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
Give me more good.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You don't know how many doing this good bad, and
there's been been a dearth of goods for a long time.
So let's just the.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Running game general, you know. I thought Stevenson, Gibson, and
then toward the end Larison really ran hard. I talked
about the physicality again finishing runs. I thought those guys
were really, really good tonight. I don't know what. I
don't have my stats up tonight. How the season snuck
up on me and I left my tablet home today
(09:04):
so I don't have all the numbers in front of me.
But they just piled up the yards on the ground. Again.
I know it's preseason, but that doesn't The way they
ran tonight, not the results, but the way they ran
the ball carries over. Yeah, when you lower your shoulder
and you fall forward and you finish runs, I don't
care if it's preseason, regular season, postseason. To me, it's
(09:26):
the same. I love the way they're running. Backs ran
the ball tonight.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Under fifty three yards on the ground too.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
There you go, you want to throw an up cloud here?
You want me to go?
Speaker 6 (09:33):
You go?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
You want me to jump in, I'm gonna throw DJ
James in there. I mean, comes up with an interception.
You can't ignore. That is a guy that I guess
i'd call him maybe like the fifth or sixth corner
right now, but has had a strong camp. He's been
around the ball. He was around the ball during the
joint practice and then he came up here stepping in
front of the throw picking up an interception for him.
So he's the kind of guy I love in training
(09:56):
camping in the summer, somebody who no one was talking
about DJ James anything about him, and is a guy
that's just come on, he's making plays, he's showing up.
Everybody's seeing it. So good on him for keeping it rolling.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
And I will add on that on that pick because
DJ James is really growing on me. As you guys know,
that's Michael Gallup. That was the receiver there. And I
know that there were all Washington's twos and threes and
he's one of their twos and threes. But that's the
guy that was in Dallas, you know, once upon a time,
had a promising start to his career. He's had some injuries,
and yes he slips coming out of his break, but
that's a that's an NFL receiver he's covering there. It's
(10:29):
not just some guy who's going to be at Sonny's
car wash next week. You know, Michael Gallup had had
a decent start to his career. I think DJ James
has earned a you know, continues to earn more looks
as a potential guy. You know, with Alex Eyte, we
think we all have Alex Austin in. You know, no
questions asked. There's going to be other jobs. I think
DJ James is staking acclaim.
Speaker 6 (10:51):
Had a good breakup in the Red Zone too. Sam
Cartman actually found kJ Osborne was a good pass and
he broke that up. So yeah, I had DJ James
there surely also rookie Craig Woodson, who he talked a
lot about he led in Tackles with five. Would you
guys think him.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
The active active you know, I just I need to
see him break through though, you know, and that maybe
tonight was an opportunity for him. But you know, Paul
and I were talking here in the show where he's
just really had gotten a chance yet. I mean, Jalen
Hawkins has kind of been the third safety in that group,
and maybe over these last couple of weeks Woodson can
can find a way to scratch his way into getting
more opportunities. But you know, I thought it was a
learning experience for him and a lot of the rookies too.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
Though.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You know, I had at the opportunity for a tackle
for loss and I wasn't able to come up with it.
But he's a player that I continue to want to
watch and see if he can crack into that you know,
top part of the lineup and get some more opportunities.
But you know, solid night for him. Definitely involved, and
it's always great when a rookie gets that that involved.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
In the first game, I thought too, for one good
not Drake may specifically. I know he's going to be
part of or bad, but I think the line opening
up holes for the run game. Will Campbell and Jared
Wilson in particular. Of course, those were the two rookies
we were going to be focusing on and thought I
thought they looked all right.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Yeah, I mean I was. Actually I'm going to put
Will Campbell on the good list, and I'm going to
say first that I think he was part of the
reason for the fumble. He was there, they failed to
pick up here him and Wilson failed. Yeah, it's fine.
There's are two rookies. That's a stunt. They're going to
have to learn how to do that. But what stood
out to me with Will Campbell tonight was the attitude
that he blocked with and the finish that he played with.
(12:20):
And I love it. I knew that he had that
at LSU. It's not something that's going to come out
on the practice fields, but he was finishing blocks and
playing with the kind of edge that you saw a
guy like Logan Mankins play with. And you know what
kind of attitude that injects into the offensive line. So
it's not just that they needed talent, they need a
little attitude too, because this has been the most maligned
(12:41):
position group on the Patriots roster for a couple of
seasons going now, and to see a guy out there
playing with that kind of snarley attitude. It wasn't perfect.
He made some mistakes, absolutely, I just loved the attitude
and I love that he's bringing that to this offensive line.
I think they needed it so bad and I hope
he can. I mean it was almost a little on
the edge there a couple where I'm like, well, careful there,
big Well, you know you might you might get a
(13:01):
call for that but I hope he continues to play
like that, and I hope it's contagious to the rest
of the offense.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
So I thought the offensive line in general tonight was
pretty good. You know, like they ran the ball really
well all night, all four quarters, and the pass protection
held up. There was a you know, a couple of
couple of leaks here and there, but not many, and
they got a lot of guys out there. They had.
You know, we mentioned that they were going to be
a little thin at tackle. Marcus Bryant and Trey Jacobs
played a lot before the Conley's and those guys got
(13:28):
in there. So yeah, I think the offensive line in general,
I think was was really good. I have one more
good that that I would talk. I think Ben Wi
Woldridge was the best quarterback tonight. I think he made
some really good throws to a couple to my guy
John Giles, who for some reason no one ever really
talks about. But you know, the the only passes they
(13:50):
threw the ball downfield were Woldridge he had I think
he had two to Giles. He had one to Jeremiah
Webb who made a really nice catch run after the catch.
I thought it was a little. It looked like the
game was a little fast on the first series that
Woldridge was in there, and then the next series he
settled right down. I mean, I think for a guy
(14:12):
who didn't get a lot of opportunities in the practice field,
he was pretty sharp.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
I love he brought it up, Paul, because I thought
the same thing early on. It's like I just, even
through practicees felt like it's been a little too fast
for him having and then all of a sudden he
came on and made a couple of those throws. He
got a little lucky on that deflected touchdown. Yeah, that
one was you know, plander write in Chishom's hands. But
he showed me a little something tonight. I think it
was a really good performance. This is the throw here
where he kind of looked like it got deflective but
went right to Chisholm. That'll be good for micd Up.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
I mean mad twelve passing Dobbs had forty five. Oldridge
had one hunder thirty two passing cards. So yeah, he
got the ball up more than anybody. I mean, Henderson
was the only guy with the catch deep into the
second so the receivers didn't yeah anything really.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
That's heading towards the bad.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, and that's heading towards the battle.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
We got the b We gotta do the good.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
What are you doing?
Speaker 9 (15:04):
All right?
Speaker 6 (15:04):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 9 (15:05):
Yeah, I feel being in the in the anchor chair.
Speaker 6 (15:08):
It's real. Really, I got to go watch with these
guys and yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
It's a big celebrity. You get to sit next to him.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Why is open so nervous? You're more famous than any
the boss man Fred Kirsh Yeah, could not have asked
for a better start, right for.
Speaker 9 (15:26):
Chisholm, for the team, for the team. Now it's good.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
I mean I kept having to remind people on the
blog the square doesn't matter unless you're better and your
better the over. But eight points, come on, I think
that was beating the over for this. But but yeah,
I know it's a lot of standout plays for for
people that we've been watching in training camp, and it's
(15:52):
just exciting to at least come out of this game
with a lot of positive things to talk about. I'm
sure that we're going to talk about some of the
negatives as well, which there were plenty of those.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Two I didn't really see. I mean, there's one, but
I don't know specific set of do you want to do?
You want to?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (16:10):
So you don't have anything specific like good that you
just know?
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Actually, honestly, I do thinks had a really good game
and showed up.
Speaker 9 (16:18):
What's what?
Speaker 10 (16:18):
What?
Speaker 9 (16:19):
What?
Speaker 10 (16:19):
What?
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Thing? I was kidding?
Speaker 9 (16:20):
He did?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
I mean what?
Speaker 9 (16:23):
I what were his numbers? Cluddy?
Speaker 4 (16:25):
I was literally just about what do we say in
the pregame show?
Speaker 6 (16:28):
He was gonna end up with six catches fifty yards
and he's a arrved.
Speaker 9 (16:36):
What What didn't you like about what you saw from Chisholm.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
I did not like anything. I just wasn't overly impressed.
Speaker 9 (16:44):
I thought he looked really good.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
And once he got paid up from the ball to him,
I thought he looked great, you know, fighting.
Speaker 9 (16:52):
For more yards. He looked shifted, he's fast, he's fine.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
Eight targets, so six cashes on eighteens?
Speaker 9 (16:59):
Like, why can't you just give him his due?
Speaker 4 (17:02):
He was fine? What do you want me to do?
I didn't say he was bad. He's not on my
bad list.
Speaker 9 (17:07):
I think we got to find a space for him.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Yeah you have a hard time?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well yeah, I mean there's no room.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
In a second, what are we gonna do now?
Speaker 9 (17:15):
So now the rest of the receivers aren't good either.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Well, I think the receivers are fine. Well, I mean
when Diggs is out there.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Yeah, he wasn't out there. No, I think he was good.
I think Larison showed some things.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
You guys, they're gonna need big weeks. Keep it rolling.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
I mean, this is just don't really focus on the
last five minutes of the game. I kind of focused
on played the whole second half.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
I mean, do we have a battle for backup quarterback
on this?
Speaker 4 (17:44):
I don't think yeah, I would say that.
Speaker 9 (17:46):
Do we have a battle for kicker?
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Yeah, there is a battle for kicker.
Speaker 9 (17:50):
Parker Romo.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
You can't made list. Yeah it did. But I think,
you know, for me, Wooldridge, Chisholm, and Larison are three
guys that have been around and I haven't really seen
much from and I do think that they had pretty
good ends to the game and maybe they're setting themselves
up for a strong finish over these last two weeks
of camp to try to make a build on.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
It's the most absolutely all the show tonight.
Speaker 9 (18:12):
This was the conference you know, I mean the.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Conference finalist, Final fourteen forty eight on the final fourteen,
Fred and I are lockstep on this final fourteen.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Oh boy, all right, you want me to do the bad.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
The next let me read this real quick. Rendon says, hey, crew,
Paul has referred to himself as a D grade celebrity. However,
something happened in Australia today that might change his mind.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
List.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
I had the game on live and Paul came up.
My wife recognized him by voice alone and called out.
Isn't that one of the guys from your podcast? I
think that qualifies Paul as an internationally recognized sports personality,
which deserves an upgrade.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Let me just show you doing a great job reading the.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
Email time and now we'll go to the bath.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
Yeah, well I'll move to the mic just so listen.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Now I'll kick it off. I'll kick it off because
I I was disappointed with Drake's performance. Just I mean,
it's just specifically that the turnover is just something that
can't happen. I have high expectations for him, and he's
the team. He's the one who needs to lead them.
So you know, I don't feel too.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
Bad at the kind of that loses games.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Yeah, and you know, and the runs are nice and
he squeaked out, but as Paul said when we were
watching it, we know he can he can scoot and
run and take the ball, and so that's great, But
I just would have liked to see him push the
ball down the field a little bit. Look a little
bit more like he's executing the offense on time and look,
there's a way to go. But we got to hold
him to a high standard because this year two for
(19:37):
this quarterback. And I'm sure you know Vrabel said it
at halftime, he said, you know, let's a mistake by
the quarterback that can't happen.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I think we were all saying, like, yeah, just eat it,
eat it, go down Drake. So hopefully he takes this
and learns.
Speaker 9 (19:50):
But it's almost like his hands were too small.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
It's weird. Yeah, weird, Like I mean to see it
right now?
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Or what did he throw.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Three of five for twelve twelve year?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
How would they have like an eighteen yard completion and
nine yard I'm just looking at the monitor of the
postgame show on CBS. I don't know. I in my
mind's eye, I only remembered.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
Him having like he ran for more than he threw.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
So the runs are good, I mean, that's that's a
big part of his game. I just I kind of
agree with Mike that I would rather have seen just
conventional passing game. That's what I kind of talked about
in the pregame. My one of my the my key
of the game was smooth operation and then you get
a turnover and the ball not really coming out. I
(20:37):
know we can run, he's very effective, but this is a.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Bloody got down on that one in a regular season game.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
That's a great play, Like this is not fluky. This
is what he can do. We sat heed and do
it many times last year. Great job, guys as usual
with the highlights. I'm not saying that that's not sustainable offense.
That is sustainable. He's a great runner. I know he
can do that. I just would like to have seen
him maybe had more opportunities to operate from the pocket.
(21:02):
I knew he wasn't going to be in the game long.
I don't think that this was like a bad performance
by him by any means. But the turnover is, as
Fred said, is the s that can get your beat.
He's got to eliminate those turnovers. Trying to do too
much like that's a mental mistake to me, trying to
do too much on that play. The play is over.
Go down or throw it.
Speaker 9 (21:22):
Away, pick one, like really throw it up.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Stop trying to make a play there. The play is over.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Yeah no, And I thought there was a good point
on the broadcast. I think I think Zoe said it
with you, Brian Flores this week in Minnesota, like they
they're gonna try to put him in a blender both
in the joint two joint practices and in the game.
So it's gonna be a tough week next week for
Drake and I hope he can rise to that check.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
And I got to tell you that's all I had.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
That's all I had.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Fumble And it was really just the fumble. Yep, that's it.
Speaker 11 (21:48):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
I don't have anything else on the bad list. Did
you have anything?
Speaker 1 (21:52):
You're gonna somebody come on.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
I didn't the receivers in general to start the game.
That was the first thing I wrote, because Henderson was
the only guy who had caught a pass. And I
don't know if it was so much of them not
getting open, because I think some guys got good separation.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I thought Kyle Williams got open on a couple of occasions.
Speaker 9 (22:09):
Yeah, No, I think he had a step and a
couple of those.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Gott to check the film, and I don't want to specifically,
it was a clear peah.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
He was definitely definitely interfered with on one of them,
and I thought that the route on the goal line
on the quick slant was a good route. He shook
the guy immediately and Dobbs' pass was was high into
the inside.
Speaker 9 (22:28):
So Chisholm was getting open a lot. Yeah, Fred love.
Speaker 10 (22:35):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
I wish did you not listen to the pregame because
it unfolded exactly the way Mike and I said, there's
no way they're going to be able to stop him,
and he's going to be three yards downfield and they're
going to be.
Speaker 9 (22:48):
Able to So why can't they stop him.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Because they're like fifty six string players? So was he well,
I mean, I don't know. You said there has to
be a spot.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Now, what I'm saying is he's the king of the
fifth and six string players, so maybe he's pretty good.
Speaker 9 (23:05):
He's the best of.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
That, and fifty yards makes you pretty good?
Speaker 9 (23:08):
And okay, fifty yards and two quarters yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Than that.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
Matt, this is interesting, he said, this is how it
was supposed to look in all caps. He said, yes,
they played Commanders backups, but they also played Commander's backups
last preseason. And how many points did they manage? Can
anyone remember.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
They could block that out?
Speaker 6 (23:24):
I'm not ten points? So yeah, complete dominations start to finish.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
That's saying you can keep, you know, returning kicks for touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
He said. The one thing that stands out to me
is the two penalties aside from the offsetting ones. Did
that worry you guys at all?
Speaker 1 (23:39):
The penalties? I mean, you're gonna have a game thing.
Speaker 7 (23:43):
Maybe.
Speaker 9 (23:44):
I think they had twelve when Patriots said two.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yeah, I mean it wasn't I mean it was kind
of embarrassing, like how one side of the game was
and I know it doesn't matter, it doesn't count, but
like one team was playing regular football and the other
team looked like it was just completely out to lunch.
It was embarrassing.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Yeah, and I guess yeah, last year Pat's had ten
for one hundred and fifty seven penalty yards and we
talked about that control the controllable and they I mean.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
That was Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I liked I liked a lot of them. I I
think a lot of the stuff they did is stuff
that will carry over. I really do. The way they
played is sustainable, physical energy, smart, you know, avoid.
Speaker 9 (24:25):
The avoid the stuff that'll get.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
The ask, that'll get your beat. Yeah, that's that's stuff
that will.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Easy to defend.
Speaker 9 (24:33):
Right. I think they were defense.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Especially Chissels. It's especially Chissels. He's tough.
Speaker 9 (24:39):
The guy gets open and he catches the ball when
it's near him. What else I mean, he's.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
The third of the long line of Chisholms that have
been imagined in a forty eight to eighteen pasting.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
He's trying to get me in an f chism fight.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
He's been playing it since he was sitting up in
the press box.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
I knew it was coming. As soon as I saw
him come in with his donut.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
I know it was coming.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
Well, they might need him, do we think.
Speaker 9 (25:05):
Well, I don't want to be next time you could
hit me. You can't get rid of him. You gotta
find a place.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
To put him.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
You and I'll be at the funeral if they do
cut him. But but I think we're I mean, we
should talk about the injury just because get into this,
which I'm gonna be honest, It drove me nuts just
to see Mike was so mad Jalen Polk running an
end around and I just don't get why they try
to do that with him, and they always do it,
and Evan said it and I thought the same thing.
It's like a Rynaman Nikil Harry where it's like, come on, guy,
(25:34):
get going. And then he didn't even have a chance
to get the edge. He gets hit and then you
could just see the arm like doing the thing where
it's dead, you know, and I'm like, oh, there it goes.
That's the shoulder.
Speaker 9 (25:44):
Well it could be just like a stinger.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
I mean, I hope. So he went into the tent.
I guess he just went down into the locker room.
That is, I believe the shoulder that he had surgery on.
So between him and Born now getting hurt, I mean
this might be uh yeah, see you next summer, jaylen Polk.
I don't I don't know exactly, but.
Speaker 9 (26:02):
You know, we think about, oh, it's a crowded receiver.
Speaker 6 (26:04):
Room, he pointed. Immediately he gets up.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
But Fred's right, I mean stinger like that, like that's
a similar kind of thing. But you can just tell.
I mean, does he just take the hit right on
the shoulder.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
I think he tries to stiff arm and which come on.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Fall down.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Yeah that seemed like overly violent.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Now it didn't.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
But I you know what I didn't think of until
you just said it was the the surgery on that shoulder.
So yeah, that's a.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Fall on that one.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
That's unfortunate.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
I mean for Jalen Polk, who you know, sitting at
a crossroads. Maybe and now he might have just bought himself.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Like we talked about Kendrick Bourne, as a veteran missing
a whole week of practice, it's tough for him, you know,
definitely have an opportunity to save some money if they
go to that down that road. You know, Polk is
a younger guy, but this is not a good time
to to have to be missing.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
Door open open.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
It was the muscle tightness. Yeah, right, that's why he
was out of practices.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Yeah, I mean that's what they said. I mean, that's
what they said that he was dealing. Felt like he
had come off pup, but he had been, you know,
an active participant during all the off seasons, so you
could tell he was still rehabbing the shoulder and getting
it ready to go. So I don't know, I don't
know for sure that that's even the exact shuolder too.
I mean that, you know, I'm not for sure it
was the right I said. I mean that's what I said.
I think it is.
Speaker 9 (27:23):
I thought it was the right one. You know, who
was going to be our guest. He's going to be
calling in.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
All right, here we go.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
I see some of you guys, and you can see
if he can get an autograph.
Speaker 9 (27:39):
I have to be a virtual autograph.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
You did well, you know, I don't want to put
him on the good list, but I just wanted to
mention Truman Jones getting kind of like the start on
the outside linebacker. We we kind of gave Elijah Ponder
some love in the pregame, but Truman Jones deserves some recognition,
it seems like. But he went back out there at
the end, so like quite a lot. It's this, you know,
(28:01):
So I don't know exactly, but there was only one
play that that, you know, really it seemed like good recognition.
Seemed like a wide receiver screen. He pulled up and
turned and ran and kind of helped force it for
for a loss. So I just think he's an interesting player.
Kind of keep an eye on swarming.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Milton, Milton Williams and Keon White got a lot of
reps in the first half, lit but kind of neutralized.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
There was one play that Milton Williams made a really
nice recognizing the screen. They tried a lot of screen,
like a lot of quick wide out screens and Milton
Williams was out in space and made sure the guy
couldn't couldn't break any tackles. But yeah, I agree, they
were kind of quiet. Yeah, yeah, not much of a pass.
No bar more new.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
Any more good bad injured before we go to the.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Calls Alec Lidstrom late in the game looked like he
got banged up. I don't know if they brought him
back in. He did go back in.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Oh yeah, they had to actually burn a time out
to get him back in. They wanted him back in so.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
So bad on that spot, and we probably didn't want
to put someone who had already cooled down back in
the game.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
It's strange play centered all to night, not.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
That I saw.
Speaker 9 (29:09):
I don't think so.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
You guys think Brown.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
He had a really good block on one of those
inside runs. Strange he he pancakes someone on one of
those between the tackle runs by Laris and I think, yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Didn't really notice anything about Brown, at least initially. Nothing
stood out to me.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
So I like Terrell Jennings again. I think he finishes runs.
Speaker 9 (29:28):
He's okay.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Watch for the toss sweeps too. I think that's another trend. Geez.
We've seen a lot of toss sweeps inside the five
yard line and training camp, and they must have run
three of them for touchdowns tonight, right, I think all
three backs had bunches. Yeah, they just they're just a
lot of everything well tonight.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I mean, I mean this is dominant Henderson. I mean,
you got to be excited about it.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
He's just so likable too. He's just like a soft
spoken kind of you know, and for somebody who I mean,
good week for him, like not only popping the guy
in pass protection during the joint practice, but then having
a nice night tonight. I think the rest of the
NFL is probably going to pretty quickly realize that that
this kid could be a problem.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
But when I mentioned is there any possibility of him
being running back one, you guys kind of said no, shot,
are we changed?
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Like, yeah, he will not be the lead back because
I don't think he can run the ball between the
tackles consistently and hold up. But this is what he's
going to be. He's going to be a dynamic past
catching back and they'll you know, he'll get some toss sweeps.
Speaker 9 (30:35):
And he's very quick in.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Yeah, and he's and he runs with power. He does.
He's not too small to you know, to run. I
just don't think he'll hold up physically because he never
did in college.
Speaker 9 (30:48):
Get in college.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Stevenson played a lot tonight too.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
I thought Stevenson was really good.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Yeah, I mean, I mean.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
A backups they are. They all look good.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
But I continue to like Gibson too. Just I think
he's such a perfect little spot back. He runs really hard,
he falls forwardy a you know, great kickoff return tonight.
I think he's just a valuable guy to have around.
Can fill a number of spots, but a good just
gif Stevenson arrest without having to overwork Henderson. I think
it'll be a good room with those three guys.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
I mean, other than Chisholm, it was it was a
slow night for the receivers.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Is he already on the line for Oh no, no.
Speaker 6 (31:21):
Yeah, that's somebody is writing And Eric said it's an
exciting but big concern is that we could have started
three seconds true.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Do you have the stats, Claudia? Can I trouble you
for that?
Speaker 6 (31:30):
Yeah? What do you need?
Speaker 4 (31:31):
John Giles?
Speaker 1 (31:32):
How many yards?
Speaker 6 (31:34):
Two for forty eight?
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Forty eight yards? Mentioned that big play Big play, mentioned
that fifty for chism and one hundred and eleven catches.
Speaker 9 (31:41):
The take away that one play.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Which one the twenty six yard or the twenty five yonder?
Speaker 6 (31:49):
That would be sixty Brad, You're gonna be happy. We
did get where Chishm's going to join the show. Wow,
Chishm's going to join the show. I get the shout
at them to stop the confirmation.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
It's going to get his autographed.
Speaker 9 (32:02):
I know he is. I got to say hello to Tom.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
So friend, tell us about that. You get one of
our fans a great picture.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
So you get a kiss post didn't.
Speaker 9 (32:11):
I didn't go to the ceremony.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I watched from my laptop up in the press box
to make sure everything was going right. And then with
about at about uh seven o'clock because I have to
go live on the blog seven fifteen, I saw him
on the sideline.
Speaker 9 (32:25):
I said, I'm just gonna keep going, baby. So I went,
I ran down, and I said.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
I ran down?
Speaker 9 (32:31):
Well was there?
Speaker 4 (32:32):
When was the last time you ran?
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Let's go boy? Anytime, I'll make you look worse than
I did. Andy Hart any sport picket.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
I got the bat Achilles. I can't do it.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
I gotta I gotta face, gotta fake me less.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
This is what happens.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Look at this one for you guys are arguing somehow.
Still that's a dog.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
So I read down and I said, I said, hello,
it was just good to see babe.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Yeah, no kissing. That's a great picture. Whoever caught that.
Speaker 9 (33:08):
You don't know that story, Claudia, of you guys kissing.
Speaker 6 (33:11):
No, I haven't heard that happens.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
That happens.
Speaker 9 (33:16):
I was thinking of making that quick movee.
Speaker 6 (33:18):
So we'd have to so you always have the story.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
He just leaned in and Fred lost his mind.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
I thought it was Fred, how was? I felt like
the reaction was pretty good to the statue.
Speaker 9 (33:32):
It seemed like, yeah, I think so.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
I think if you if you go to Patriots dot com,
it's are social We've got some really really close up
of the face.
Speaker 9 (33:40):
It's a really like they nailed the face.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
That's what a lot of people that I've heard from
have said they're very happy that it looks like Tom Brady. Yeah,
that's the big takeaway. Now there's some other stuff, but
the one big takeaway to me was that it looked
like Tom Brady.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
Right, it's Dwayne Wade.
Speaker 9 (34:02):
Actually, I don't think pictures do it justice.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
I don't think it out there person, it's it's he
did a good job.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
Well, we'll see it Friday.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
We will be walking Red Robin.
Speaker 9 (34:13):
Like all these like even these Canton busts, so many
of them.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Are terrible, so bad, you know, and like all you're
doing is the face and you can't get it right,
and like.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
You know, the Canton busts are a problem too. I
don't know some of them. Most of them I don't know.
But most of them, I.
Speaker 7 (34:30):
Don't know what.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
They look terrible.
Speaker 9 (34:33):
You know.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
What I didn't have on my binger card was Evan
was like had like a religious experience seeing that statue.
He was like he couldn't believe it, like I was.
I was so shocked. He could barely talk about it.
And he's like, it's in the top three moments in
my life. And you listed off like Brady nine and
a couple and I'm like, you just got married.
Speaker 9 (34:49):
So you know where the.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Even like as a fan boy like the games wouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
I don't know, higher than like a he had he
had a religious experience with that Tom Brady's at you,
I can't quite. I mean it's huge, he and he
loved every inch of.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
It, and it's Tommy every inch of it.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
I mean it's seventeen feet high. But yeah, evn loved it.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
So seem out.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
There just standing under it, like you know, after the game,
just staring up at it.
Speaker 9 (35:17):
You know that seven Oh, I think people will make
pilgrimages to this. Well.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
I can't wait to see just how it feels in
that area because that area is wide open, but I
think it would really stand.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Out with Yeah, Now, how do we keep like from
people under the cloak of darkness violating it at night?
Speaker 6 (35:34):
Oh, I'm knowing I'm the loving guard out there, well,
a guard.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Out there, passionate patriot does that, the volunteery.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Fools thing every they do something crazy like for Halloween
or some April fools. How are we going to keep
people from like doing something to our tom.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Security case that's your friend.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
Apparently you guys have that connection. So you've got to
go out there and protect me.
Speaker 9 (35:57):
I know we're going to have to.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Like camp, there's a there's the pick that the eye
black and everything that.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
It's pretty good. You can't really tell it to Patriots
jersey though. I don't know if we have a picture
of the jersey, but I didn't.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
It's twelve. It says twelve. It's hard to see from
the picture, but it does have the number twelve. I
saw some people go forgot the twelve.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
Oh no, you could see the teld.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
Yeah, I can see the twelve. And the face is good.
Speaker 9 (36:20):
I think. I think, as statues go, this is a
really good one.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
But you've already got a chisel job, and then you
should be able to chisel a job to look like it.
Speaker 6 (36:27):
You can't replicate Tom, you just you can't replicate his face.
So they did good.
Speaker 9 (36:32):
It's gotta be there.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
You can't jokes too. I didn't. I didn't see the
fake phone call from Bill Belie coming on that one.
Speaker 6 (36:38):
That was yeah he's a comedian now, yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Like you got jokes Tom.
Speaker 9 (36:42):
The roast was a year ago. You don't have to
keep that going.
Speaker 6 (36:45):
I'll never forget.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
It's pretty surreal. Though, to see a giant seventeen foot
statue of yourself, I don't know what I imagine what
that was like. I know, yeah, that most be cool.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
He seemed a little emotional. We do have after Chisholm coming,
but we have a few calls, shall we? Christian? Oh no,
I'm being told, no, okay, I'm getting like.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
A Patriots game at any minute.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
My score you can always getting up right now, getting
lined up electric?
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Okay, Greg may is at the podiumthing's coming to us.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Yeah, so great start, I mean, and that's really just
setting up I mean two weeks from now that the
preseason's over.
Speaker 8 (37:24):
So crazy right, all right, we got him?
Speaker 1 (37:30):
There is there is Hey to chism.
Speaker 9 (37:35):
Thanks for joining, of course, thanks for having me. I
appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Congrats on the big win, forty eight points. You guys
put up. How's it feel?
Speaker 10 (37:43):
It was awesome?
Speaker 12 (37:44):
You know, I think first NFL game going out there
with Patriots go on and then kind of performing like
the way we did as a team.
Speaker 10 (37:51):
It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Something go ahead.
Speaker 9 (37:54):
How about your own performance? You had a pretty good night.
Speaker 12 (37:59):
Yeah, I think you know, the quarterbacks allowed me, you know,
they gave me some good balls. The old line walked
their tail off and kind of gave me the opportunity
to make things happen. So, you know, I could be
more thankful just for the team around me and the
opportunity given Afton.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Just what was your energy like leading up tonight? I mean,
Tom Brady's getting a statue. You've been practicing here for
you know, a month or so in training camp, You're
getting ready to play your first NFL game. Just what
were your emotions like going into this game tonight?
Speaker 12 (38:26):
Yeah, super surreal, trying not to get too caught up
in the moment, you know, don't let the lights get
too big, and kind of just realize that it's football
at the end of the day, and you know, I've
been doing this for a while and trying to just
take advantage of the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
After it seemed like the one thing that I noticed
every Patriot that had the ball in his hands tonight
finished the run, you know, finished after the catch. Wide
receivers included yourself included. Was that something the coaches went
over with you guys a lot, just to finish off
the runs.
Speaker 12 (38:56):
Yeah, I think that's just kind of the part of
the identity. We're kind of building here, finishing and effort finishing. Know,
it's kind of the first thing we kind of talk
about as a team, but just going going beyond the mask,
going beyond for the good than you can. You know,
if there's a guy down there, go finish longer than
they get at the ball, you know, so always trying
to find that extra block, that touchdown block, or find
that extra yard that hitting yardage in third, third and
(39:18):
one go get that first down. So whatever it is.
Speaker 6 (39:22):
Afton, I'm curious what coach Brabil had to say the
locker room after that. Of course, forty eight points is
a lot, but the rookies yourself included, you guys really
showed up tonight. What was his parting thoughts with you
guys after that?
Speaker 12 (39:35):
Yeah, he just congratulated us on you know, taking taking
advantage of that second half and going out there and
competing and you know, trying to earn a rule on
this team with whatever it is. So yeah, he can
graduate with us and as a team as a whole.
You know, I thought, well, we all played our tails
also it's fun to be a part of.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
So next step for you guys is you got to
practice on Sunday. But then you'll be going out to
Minnesota and this time you'll be having two joint practices
during the week.
Speaker 9 (40:03):
Thoughts on that, Yeah.
Speaker 12 (40:05):
I just think more more opportunities for us to go
out there and compete, you know, going against a new opponent, Uh,
be awesome. You know, those practices, at least that first
one was super cool. Just kind of going against those
those starters and getting to see some of the guys
again out there every day. It's just it's just different
than you know, you don't have to line up against
the same guys every day, you know, so you get
(40:25):
to feel like almost a game and kind of take
it like that.
Speaker 6 (40:29):
So, yeah, well it was the first ROLD game. You
guys look great. Congratulations on your first chism in the NFL.
You looked awesome tonight.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 12 (40:37):

at la, what do you think of tonight?
Speaker 15 (44:46):
He you guys, thank you taking my call this evening
and welcome Claudia to the family.
Speaker 6 (44:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 15 (44:53):
You guys are great that you're working with You're going
to have a really great time and the fans are
really good. So congratulations on the on the new gig
and guys, it just felt good tonight. It felt good
to feel like staate space football. It felt professional, which
is something difference then last year. Last year the guys
played sloppy, they played listless to night. They played professional,
(45:14):
low penalties, high execution. That just made me really do
a double's take on Mike Rabel's impact on the team.
I came in hot on Mike Rabel. I'm starting to
loose enough on him. I really did just like the
professionalism of the team and then the offense. To me,
we're seeing the McDaniel's effect come back where it really
(45:34):
didn't matter what quarterback was in. The completions were there,
the open receivers were there. The guys that last year
couldn't get separation this year were getting separation. So the
new players, the scheming. I think that's Josh McDaniel's effects.
And I'm just really pleased, really love what I've seen
out of obviously Henderson. My dark horse for this year
(45:56):
is going to be John Giles. I love what fen
Chism did. Don't actually need a Chism. We need more
of a John gilds life, big, strawn past and can run.
Of course, my only complaint would be Drake May, but
I'm going to hold that for next week. I want
to see him go down the field little more. I
want to see him do two A the reason for running.
Speaker 7 (46:15):
But overall it just felt good.
Speaker 11 (46:17):
Guys.
Speaker 15 (46:17):
It felt good to feel like taked football is back
and a win at the win.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yeah, especially, you know, I find myself it's rare, but
agreeing with Christian in La, I mean, if the Patriots
had come out and played sloppy football and just you know,
scored ten points in it was just a continuational lot,
we'd be up in arms. We'd be really well, you know,
we'd be really worried, like what's going on? And we
(46:45):
saw the opposite. Yes it's preseason, Yes you're playing backups,
but they did They played football the way football is
supposed to be played. And that's a big departure from
what we saw last year. So we're off to the
right start. Can you sustain it?
Speaker 9 (47:04):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
I mean, like Efton Chisholm, will he do this throughout
the season?
Speaker 9 (47:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
But they're off on the right foot, and I think
it's Patriot's Nation. We needed that, we need that, we
need that confidence builder.
Speaker 1 (47:21):
It's a lot of what I've been trying to verbalize
through camp and put into words and not compare too
much to the past, but it just feels like a
football team. It feels like a football operation. It feels
like they know what they're doing and they're putting guys
into place to make plays and be successful. And you
saw tonight. I think that's the translation. It's just you
don't overstate it because we're watching practice, but then you
see a night like tonight and you're like, yeah, this
(47:42):
is the team that I'm watching come together. I hope
that they can continue to build off of this, because
I mean.
Speaker 9 (47:48):
I like the way they played Yeah, next week will
be a great test.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
Minnesota is another really good team, and we'll see what
happens in those joint practices.
Speaker 9 (47:58):
You get two of them.
Speaker 4 (47:59):
So are they going to have a drop off this
year too?
Speaker 9 (48:01):
Minnesota?
Speaker 4 (48:02):
Yeah, so you think they're good?
Speaker 9 (48:04):
Yeah, Okay, to test next week.
Speaker 4 (48:09):
I think this week was nothing.
Speaker 9 (48:10):
I think the Commanders are a good team too. I
just don't think they're going to make it to the
NFC Championship this year.
Speaker 4 (48:15):
But they didn't. First of all, they didn't play. If
you even whatever whatever you got players, none of their
players period. But whatever you think of Washington, Washington didn't
play in the game. But I don't care because I
like the way they played the Patriots, and that to me,
is sustainable. That's something that you can carry in. I
(48:36):
think Rabel had a message tonight about the energy and
the physicality and finishing off plays, finishing off the tackles.
I thought they tackled well. I thought they they finished
their runs well. And I think that was the message
that Rabel wanted to send. And I think that's was
important to get off to a good start tonight. I
(48:57):
don't even care about the results as much, and I'm
not talking on wins loss results, forty eight points. They
could have scored twenty seven points and I would have
been just as happy about it. By the way they played,
because we didn't see that enough. Fred said that, you know,
when he was just breaking it down, we didn't see
enough of the the way they they went about their
(49:19):
business tonight. In the last say, three or four years,
they haven't seen enough of that, that kind of effort
top to bottom across the board. It wasn't always great,
but it was effort across the board.
Speaker 9 (49:31):
Yeap.
Speaker 6 (49:32):
They played like a team that was fighting for roster spots.
In my mind, yeah, that's.
Speaker 9 (49:36):
What it looked like, a team that was competing.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
And I agree with Christian too. The only thing I
would slight little nitpick with the call, like I didn't
really see the passing game stuff that he talked about, like.
Speaker 9 (49:46):
The guy's getting separation.
Speaker 4 (49:47):
Yeah, I mean in the fourth quarter, sure, Like I
mean not making fun of you like Chisholm in the
fourth quarter was open, Yeah, my guy Giles was open.
Like the first three quarters.
Speaker 6 (49:58):
They talked about Williams, they really.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
Didn't do much.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
I think you might have thought you might have changed
your tune a little bit. If Dobbs was more accurate.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
He was off. But Drake May had like five pass
attempts for twelve yards.
Speaker 9 (50:11):
No, I know, but Bob Dobbs had something.
Speaker 4 (50:13):
And I don't think he was off just miss I
don't think May was off. I think he tried twice
to look downfield and ended up having a check down
to Henderson for short gains. You know, my guess is
they weren't open.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Yeah, do you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
I don't think that May missed anybody. I don't think
he had any off target throws.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
No, I would just put my Patriots fan had on
for a second. I agree with you. I didn't really
see the Oh this is the McDaniel's scheme is back.
But I love seeing Josh McDaniels on the sidelines again. Yeah,
I love seeing him with the quarterback. I just have
an innate sense of trust with him, and the same
thing with Rabel, Like you know, seeing the mic Rabel
the arms folded.
Speaker 4 (50:52):
As an example, like they had one hundred they had
one hundred and forty three yards of offense. I want
to say one hundred and forty seven yards of offense
in the first half. Yeah, they scored twenty seven points.
So it wasn't because they were lighting up. It was
because they had two long kick returns for touchdowns, like
one four a touchdown and the other one sixty five yards. Yeah,
and then even then, like it's like fourth down and
(51:15):
Josh Dobbs is spinning around right another you know, the
Chisholm fourth down touchdown was deflected at the like, come on,
they weren't crazy, but it wasn't like what a mad
scientist designing.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
But I'm glad you brought up that Chisholm one where
he scarred off the deflection. Great concentration by Chishm. By
the way the sideline erupted.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
Except for Josh, because it's not the way it's that's
my whole exactly.
Speaker 9 (51:44):
He was more like, okay, but that's not the way.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
It's again like that.
Speaker 6 (51:50):
That's when Seth Diggs was going crazy, and he.
Speaker 10 (51:52):
Was like, let's go.
Speaker 6 (51:55):
All right, get in Joe Pennsylvania.
Speaker 10 (51:58):
What you got Hey.
Speaker 16 (52:00):
Guys, Hey, Paul, I don't want to jump on me
about epin chism, but I think he needs to make Yeah,
I think he needs to make a fifty three though,
just because the backup pop does list like imagine, just
imagine if like Pop got hurt at any point, there's
like we say, like a lot of our receivers could
do to do what others could do on there, but
there's only one Pop, and like there's only one Pop
(52:23):
in this slot there, and efen Chisen's the only one
like him, Like I know Stefan Diggs could have a
lot of numbers in.
Speaker 4 (52:29):
The plot too, but absolutely, I just you answered your
own question. I think they have a lot of options
in the slot. I don't think they have any options outside.
That's like body is going to be like the X.
I want to see more options out there.
Speaker 8 (52:45):
Yeah, yeah, but but especially to have like that that outlet,
like that outlet for Drake, Like how important that would
be for him to have that easy out and how
important it is to the offense.
Speaker 16 (52:57):
Like I like, I like a lot of these other
guys that could be in this slot, but they don't.
Speaker 8 (53:00):
Have that that that jitterbug miss just like.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
Pop or Okay, you don't think Diggs has that.
Speaker 17 (53:07):
He does, but he does, but he's not like a
true slot.
Speaker 16 (53:14):
Also to I also think Javon and Baker is making
the team just because of special teams.
Speaker 4 (53:19):
I'm glad you brought that great ahead, Mike.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Yeah, No, I mean to two tackles on kickoff returns.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
I wrote down two special teams tackles tonight for a
guy who's probably has not played a lot of special
teams in his.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
Life, right, and the probably not thrilled about it either.
But you know, he had the what they tried to
throw him fade, He jumped a little bit too soon,
they didn't connect with him in the end zone. But
I thought, like, these are the plays that this kid
has to make.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
He looked how many.
Speaker 9 (53:40):
Reps did Hollins have tonight?
Speaker 1 (53:43):
Good amount? I think, I mean, I don't like, I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (53:45):
I didn't think they were in the game. Oh yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
He had the one where he's the shot down to
him that the past really wasn't catchable.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
But I was like, he wasn't.
Speaker 9 (53:55):
He might have a couple of catches tonight, but he
didn't have anything.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
No, No, that's like that kind of what my point was, like,
I didn't necessarily see that execution in the passing game
that we sort of explained in the call. And you know,
I'm not nitpicking, Yes I am nitpicking a little bit,
but I'm not necessarily concerned. I don't think they had
a bad game in the passing game, but I don't
think they really you know, the the chunk of the
(54:19):
game where the players that are going to be on
the team. They didn't really do much in the passing
game like I would have liked to have seen, you know,
a better throw from Dobbs on one of the two
throws to Williams the one downfield that Fred talked about,
and then the quick slant in the end zone, which
I think that would have been a touchdown had it
been a good I think he was open immediately. So
(54:41):
Kyle Williams is another option to me in the slot.
You know he has. These guys are fast and quick.
Now listen, I think there's there might be a spot
for Chisholm. I'm not telling you he's not going to
make the team. I think he could make the team.
Absolutely could make the team.
Speaker 1 (54:57):
Especially when you just need a receiver so much. It's
try to try. Don't be like just throw away with
you know, if anybody's got a little bit of talent, I.
Speaker 4 (55:04):
Think a little bit. Just put him on the practice
squad and if something happens to Poppy, you elevate.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Him, or maybe it takes them a little time. I mean,
Evan's pointed out before that, you know, guys like Julian Edelman,
you know, may take a little time for them to
you know, really earn that trust. And just where Edelman
was just so always where. I mean, he's following Tom
around all off season. You know, if Efton Chisholm's doing
that kind of thing that, you know, maybe he does
grow in role.
Speaker 4 (55:26):
Describe you my Edelman, now, Fred, what's that? How many
passes you think Edelman caught as a rookie forty bred
nos Fred, Fred speaks, Paul forty. I believe it was
forty three.
Speaker 6 (55:38):
It's better around.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
Yeah, I mean, I agree that it took him some time,
but he produced.
Speaker 9 (55:45):
The thing that slowed him down were injuries.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
It would have been more.
Speaker 9 (55:49):
Absolutely he would start getting on a roll, then he get.
Speaker 1 (55:51):
Injured, right. And Welker though, right, I mean, you know, and.
Speaker 9 (55:54):
Some of that was filled and he was getting his reps.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
He's like nine catches against the Ravens when they and
I think Will wanted you know.
Speaker 4 (56:02):
Yeah, well that was a game without Welker, that big
game in the playoffs. I'm not counting that the regular season.
The regular season, he caught forty three passes as a rookie. Yes,
the board game was a big game for him, like
out of nowhere.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
But yeah, I mean the sports get that. The you know,
the general feeling, especially for Chisholm making a jump from
the lower level, like it's you know, I mean maybe
a pop Douglas got hurt and they're like, we got
to throw him in there. It's it crazy to think.
Speaker 4 (56:28):
Just give him a chance. In all seriousness there, I'm
not telling you that this guy, it would be a
travesty if he makes the team. I'm not saying that.
I think they might have some better option. No, I'm not.
I'm not if you make it. I mean I think
they would have to keep at least six receivers for
me to consider him. Yeah, and I don't think I
would if I were the Patriots. I think they have
(56:49):
some other holes that they need to fill. But if
they keep six receivers, I'm not gonna say Vrabel doesn't
know what he's doing. He's keeping six receivers.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
No, what were you kind of on Edelman in nine
when he came in as a rookie.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
I was met on him in training camp, Yes, because
he was kind of all over the place, like he
looked like he was going a mile a minute a
right time. Yeah, I was, Yes, I was wrong, absolutely,
and maybe I'll be wrong on Chisholm too.
Speaker 6 (57:15):
Does the deep ball? Were you guys at all though?
The fact that we don't, I mean, I guess Steph
could be that. But I was curious of last season
because Pop Douglas obviously had the best numbers he ranked
eighty five out of eighty nine receivers and average depth
of target.
Speaker 1 (57:31):
Yeah, I think how improved do we think? I mean,
I think it's a huge question, and I think Paul's
talked about it a lot. I mean, I think that's
the final frontier for this offense. And you feel pretty
good about Drake's willingness and ability to push the ball
down the field. He seems like he's got that confidence.
But at the same time, do they really have a
true elite downfield separator. Not really, It's still going to
(57:51):
be trying to throw Mac Collins contest to catches or
throw back shoulder to booty like we saw or hopefully
Kyle Williams.
Speaker 9 (58:00):
They tried him a couple and that's why you.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Know people and I didn't. I just didn't see it.
One of those things that I didn't clock Williams getting
separation downfield, but he was open to We go back
and look at it a little bit, and he was
behind him. He's off off the line getting behind.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Both of the deep balls he got behind the defender.
The one he got interfered with it actually was less
open than the previous one.
Speaker 9 (58:20):
Well, then the other one was thrown short and it
was I it was dropped.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
But yeah, that he was. He was Fred's right. He
was well behind the guy off like ten yards downfield.
He was behind the guy.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
But I'd say, Claudia like that to me with Diggs
as kind of your move around. Not exactly a slot
per se, but the guy that you know, you're not
going to have him on the outside just running goes
and comebacks. If you could get Kyle Williams into that
role to really be an impactful downfield player, then you're
really cooking with gas.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
I mean, Diggs was on pace to catch a hundred
balls in that role last year. That's what he did
for Houston, and he'll be between the hashes Houston. Nico
Collins was on the.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Outside right, so that I mean he fits in all
of that now, you know Douglas, Now he becomes that
pure slot with him. So you got two guys inside,
but you know, you just needed some outside presence and
you can feel that's why it's right. And then those
aren't quite the elite guys that you want. But at
the same time, like I think, you know, mc collins
can at least get them competitive in that mode. But
(59:24):
that's the final frontier. That's what we're going to talk
about all seasons, you know, finding that dog on the outside,
you know.
Speaker 4 (59:30):
Space, the final front is the final frontier.
Speaker 6 (59:33):
Beautiful Emery and Virginia have been waiting a while. How
you doing.
Speaker 7 (59:39):
Good evening, Good evening everyone, and welcome miss Clode here.
Speaker 6 (59:44):
Thank you, good show tonight.
Speaker 7 (59:47):
You know, we've been waiting for at least three years
for this, and it was it's just good to witness.
And I'm not going to get ahead of myself. I
trust what Ray Bow and his staff for doing and
I'm just one just enjoyed it and I'm not gonna
even think about Minnesota coming up Monday and all that,
and I think that's what we should do, just to
(01:00:08):
enjoy this moment. Let's talk about this football team and
what they put on the field today. And they put
a good show on today. And uh, I agree with
some of the stuff that you all mentioned. Like Woodston,
I think I think Duke said it earlier. Need to
get Woodson on the field more, especially during this preseason.
I think I think that kid can play that free
(01:00:29):
safety out there. And I was listening to the Twins
and they were talking about and you know, the mccausey twins,
and they you know, the kid just got to get
an opportunity. And then Splain Splain is a dog, an
absolute dog. And Fred, I'm with you about Chisholm Hey,
(01:00:53):
I think he has that that wiggle, that jittle bug
in him, DNA that welcle Edelman and Amadola has. And
the Belichick kept four quarterbacks. I'm not saying he's Brady,
but that's something in that kid. Keep that kid, and
(01:01:13):
he just got to get a quarterback that can get
the ball to these people. Dobbs didn't didn't didn't show
up tonight. I thought the third screen quarterback looked really good.
And Dobbs actually caught Kyle Williams a touchdown and twice.
He got like you all said, he got, he got
past the defense, but Dobbs couldn't get the ball out there.
(01:01:33):
And uh, but I think the scheme. The last thing
I'm gonna say the scheme. They were very vanilla today
and they will be pretty much throughout the preseason. So
I wouldn't take a whole lot of star too, because
I thought they was being very vanilla. Thank you all?
Speaker 6 (01:01:49):
All right?
Speaker 9 (01:01:51):
Did you guys mention? And you're good? Alex Austin.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
We meant.
Speaker 9 (01:01:55):
I thought he.
Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Yet not just the passing game, but he got his
nose in on a couple of runs too.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I had actually written him down. I
apologize if I forgot, but I liked the past break up.
Yet in the end zone a third down.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
I had actually written him down the other way for
the for the first third down of the game, I
thought he got beat bad and Number nineteen dropped the ball.
Oh you know, third and five if you want to
see tight coverage there. I was a little disappointed, but
then like, it wasn't really consequential, so I didn't have
him on any anything. But I did know during the
broadcast him. You know, Mike and I were talking about it.
(01:02:30):
Mike came down to the studio. He got to see
see how the sausages made. But we saw it. It was like,
you know, Austin, Austin in the second half playing in
the slot too. So that's good. That's a good sign
for him. I think he's a lock. He's a I
think he's a roster of lock.
Speaker 9 (01:02:47):
And did we do a Will Campbell report.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Yeah, Mike had him on the good list.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
I put him on the good list and I and
again I said it with the disclaimer of I know
him and Wilson screwed up the stunt that got Drake
sacked and fumbled. But I just loved his attitude. I
love how he finished. He just plays with that snarly
edge that I just think can really inject some personality
into this offensive line that they've really needed. And you know,
you can see why he's a leader. You can tell
that he's played left tackle. He knows what that position
(01:03:13):
has to be, so he'll learn. But I think just
the attitude awesome. Just it can be fun to watch
like Mankins, you know, it's like the extra business. And
you know you could tell guys just don't like playing
against him because he's going to finish every.
Speaker 6 (01:03:24):
Walking cam and he probably heard all the noise people
talking about his arms. Listen, think about winning the awards
that he did in college for his position, playing left
tackle his whole life, and everybody's saying he can't play
left tackle at this He probably came up with the chip.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Yeah no, and he should. And you know, look, it's
a process with him, and there's going to be bumps
in the road. But you know, no matter what happens
with Will Campbell, I just I like the player. I
just like the kid. I like the attitude. I think
he's the kind of, you know, captain type guy that
this offensive line has been lost in the wilderness for
so long. Yeah, because before that you always had such
stability there. You know, it's just like, well, we went
(01:04:01):
right from Matt Light to Nate Solder, and we went
right from Dan Copen, you know, right down the line
to everybody that came in, and you started to unravel that.
And I think that was a huge part of why
they've struggled over recent years. If you can get some
stability back, and you know, guys come in now as
they start to build this offensive line and you're like, yeah,
that's wool Campbell. He's going to be setting the tone
for us. You know, this is the guy that's gonna
(01:04:22):
show us how we need to finish plays and block
I think it's it's a good thing. We'll see where
it all ends up. But I'm excited to go on
to c Yeah for sure, for sure, you know, And
that's but that's like I look at it, you know,
as rookies making mistakes, and that's what's going to happen.
And you know they learn, you know, because picking up stunts.
We see it all the time. I mean, it's just
you know, it's hard to do and a lot of
(01:04:43):
teams are going to do it. And I'm sure they're
probably teams are going to see this on tape and
be like, I guess what we're doing to you guys
next week. So you know, especially with Brian Floores, I.
Speaker 9 (01:04:50):
I'd rather have them make them missake.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
But they'll probably be mistakes in the regular season too,
and you know we have to be a little bit
prepared for that. But you know, you know, you're getting
guys the care and they're going to come and play
with an attitude and I think that's always going.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
To be well the reason kid, I didn't really get
to focus on him much at all, So I honestly
just want to.
Speaker 9 (01:05:09):
Know how he looked.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Yeah, you know other than that one play, like was
he the bruiser that we saw on some of the
running one on ones, you know, in practice for doing that?
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
And I think with the way Mike said it, like
sometimes like ten yards downfield like continuing.
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Pancake and guys like it, love it. Yeah, it is
a tough kid, Lsu Lsu family.
Speaker 6 (01:05:36):
All right, Sean and Vancouver you're on.
Speaker 7 (01:05:42):
Hey, Baudia, you're doing a great job.
Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
Oh thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
Paul.
Speaker 18 (01:05:47):
You were mentioning earlier how well the team ran, and
I absolutely agree. One thing that you know that just
Ballinson wanted is that full full back position with Lampio
and out injured earlier, it looks like to me, even
though it's weird to see eighty seven on the field,
that Jack Westover is the guy. He had about five
(01:06:09):
nice blocks tonight. Do you think he's making the team?
Speaker 17 (01:06:11):
I'll take off the earl at you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:14):
Yeah, yeah, I think he's going to be like that
third tight end slash full back bad back they need
they need to block. Yeah, I mean he's done a
lot of full back work, and he did tonight too.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
It's really interesting. I mean, he's I said it, when
the when the fullback I heard, I'm like, is he good?
Or is he just a full back? You know? And
so I'm still wondering the same thing with Jack Westover.
Is he good or is he just latin? The next
guy that can play full back a little bit? But
he's going back to the spring. He's gotten a lot
of action. He's been repping with these guys. Austin Hooper
was out, so that gave him some opportunities and he
(01:06:45):
continues to take advantage of him.
Speaker 9 (01:06:47):
Every team needs a guy named Jack Jack.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
They might have to get him out of eighty seven though,
I don't know. I don't know about that one.
Speaker 6 (01:06:54):
Land Larrison, by the way, wearing a walking boot in
the locker room. Are we worried about that? Did we
see that happen?
Speaker 9 (01:07:00):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
I mean he got he dove into the end zone there.
I mean it seemed like he went in kind of hard,
but I didn't notice anything.
Speaker 9 (01:07:05):
Well he had Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
That's I know. I feel for those guys. I mean
it's just your your your job. You got two weeks
to prove that you need the job. You got to
get the job, and.
Speaker 6 (01:07:17):
That's why something like that whole thing. He's the one
guy that really needs to show.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
Yeah, I mean he might. I just said that. I mean,
that's where my heart goes. Is like, you know a
guy who maybe just spent the last six months getting
surgery and rehabbing something, and then the first game you
get into you re injure it, and now you're back
to square one. And you know, I know that that's
happened to guys who have torn one ACL they come
back the tear the other a cl But it's really
hard mentally, just you feel for the kid. He's a
(01:07:42):
young kid trying to get his NFL career going and
everything's up against him right now, and now another injury
set back.
Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
It seems so.
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Maybe it's just like Fretza, maybe a stinger, something light
he'll be able to come back from. But it wouldn't
be surprising based on the History movie.
Speaker 9 (01:07:55):
If you tell me it's the same shoulder that he
has surgery, he's.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Gone till twenty six.
Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
I don't think you would have gone to the locker
room if it was a stinger.
Speaker 3 (01:08:03):
Yeah, yeah, ten And then locker rooms unless they just
wanted to do an MRI or something just to make sure.
Speaker 1 (01:08:09):
Yeah, I don't know, especially if it was like a
shoulder of the hat surgery, let's be sure, but I
think's probably right. It looked to me like.
Speaker 6 (01:08:16):
And it was immediate.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Yeah, you just see him like, yeah, too bad.
Speaker 9 (01:08:21):
That's thanks, that's thanks. We have a center.
Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
I mean, Bradberry played one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
Brad Berry had some really really good blocks inside. So
there's another thing that Mike talked about in the pregame
Freddy was Bradbury seems to be the more athletic run
blocking type who can struggle in pass protection at times.
Ben Brown is kind of the opposite. He's a bigger guy,
better in pass protection. We saw the run blocking for Bradbury,
(01:08:52):
I mean, the couple of the ISOs they showed with
Stevenson and Gibson. There was one with Gibson that he
got like eight or nine yards up the middle without
really even getting touched. Brad Berry really carved out some
space for him.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Funny how that works.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
But yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
I mean they might just have to kind of take
their medicine with him. And the old line was good
with that and.
Speaker 6 (01:09:13):
Yeah, I thought the one looked good. They're part of our.
Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
Good there, weren't. I mean you brought up the Anthony
Richardson play from the other night where the guy just
came off, just ran right into it. No, there's none
of that kind of miscommunications or mistakes which we have
seen recently.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Yeah, all right, Eldred and North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
What do you got back?
Speaker 7 (01:09:34):
Hey, Cloudy, Hey Fellas, Hey, Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with
you a little bit. You're right, me me me.
Speaker 16 (01:09:42):
You know, your guy, John Giles.
Speaker 7 (01:09:44):
Loved it, loved him. I did. We should get more
touches on the outside.
Speaker 9 (01:09:49):
So what do you disagree with me about chism Chid?
Speaker 6 (01:09:55):
Why don't you like chisholm Chi.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
On the show?
Speaker 12 (01:10:00):
Now?
Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
Like the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
TK very similar. We like, you know, the taller athletic
receivers on the outside more so than.
Speaker 9 (01:10:15):
I like them both. Can I do that I have
one of the other.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
Well, in this case, there might only be one job,
so yeah, I might have. You might have to only
pick one. No, I don't think Giles is making a team.
Speaker 6 (01:10:27):
So thanks Elder.
Speaker 9 (01:10:30):
All right, thanks Elder, Thanks Biggy.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
It's nice to have some support once.
Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
He's not in the truck here in the middle of
the nineties.
Speaker 9 (01:10:37):
Yeah, it is easy.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
It's not in like that little cabin in the back
trying to curl up on a cot or something.
Speaker 6 (01:10:43):
Amir, Pennsylvania, how are you doing.
Speaker 9 (01:10:50):
All right? Speaking to the phone?
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
Hold it like a pizza.
Speaker 19 (01:10:55):
I had two things to say. I thought the Montree
back up the lift did really give him a lot
of his and so tremendous improvement from last year. And
then I just liked overall the physicality of the team
led flowering their shoulders and playing through.
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Yeah, I think they were a more physical team, like
Paul said, finishing runs. And you know whether or not
that's something that Rabel emphasized going into this game, it
certainly was the case.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
And I read one of Rabel's postgame quotes about your
guy ft in Chisholm, and that's one of the things
he talked about was his his play strength that really
stood out to him, and I agree. That's that's why
I asked him the question when we had him on
about finishing the runs and every guy with the ball
seemed to want to make sure he was falling forward.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Do you know who else had great play strength? Troy
Brown Wes Welker and Julian Edelman. They all had good
the next.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
He's the next one, next in the line, great Patriots.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
J Mo Braxton, Burrios, they all had a great pa
strength to Eric writes in Jeremy Gallon, Jeremy Ebert.
Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
To Jeremy's there's a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
There's a lot of slough, a lot of slot jacks.
Austin Carr good, Mike.
Speaker 9 (01:12:24):
What was my kid that I thought? Blonde kid from Texas?
Gunner Anner?
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
He played, We.
Speaker 4 (01:12:32):
Played both ways.
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
He's an all pro punker correct.
Speaker 6 (01:12:37):
Mm hmm, you guys done with that l.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
I think I think we unloaded the clip of former
SLA learn how to not gonna lie.
Speaker 6 (01:12:48):
I'm sitting here, you know, you remember I'm kind of young.
Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
Remember, I'm gonna learn how to how to like fuel
that fire, like make it, you.
Speaker 6 (01:12:56):
Know, want more reward.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
That's what Fred is best. That is like starting fights.
And then he'll look over and you give I'm getting
them going right now, you watch.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
Yeah, this one was unfortunate because I knew it was
coming up. So so usually I don't know they're coming.
Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
You know where we sit in the press box right,
so before we I went up the stairs. I see
Barth coming down, and Barth goes go to Evan and say,
you know, you should keep two kickers. You'll tell tell
Evan you should keep two picks.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
It's a good one actually.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
So a choke was with me and I said, film this.
So I went up and you were there. Claudia was there,
and I said, Evan. I was just on the phone
with Jonathan and he's like, he thinks we're going to
keep two kickers. He's like, really, we were just talking
about Barth was just saying that, like, so what do
you think do you think we should keep two kickers?
Speaker 9 (01:13:46):
Like, no, we shouldn't keep.
Speaker 6 (01:13:47):
To be honest, I fell for into that's good.
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
That's that's a great way to get into it. So
I was just on the phone, I know, because what's
he gonna say?
Speaker 9 (01:14:02):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
Evan's fun to play with when you can get him.
Speaker 9 (01:14:05):
You know, Marth loves the two of his.
Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
Three best days of his life.
Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
Barth was locked in the fourth quarter. I mean there
was like two minutes to go, and he's like, yeah,
oh he just you know chart and plays.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
I was on the air and I wasn't locked.
Speaker 9 (01:14:19):
These guys when the pee wee football players coming halftime.
Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
He's you never know, Fred scouting an eye on him.
Speaker 9 (01:14:26):
You know he's eight years old, but you know, just wait, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Got great play strength.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
Yeah, class of thirty three, right, get him, get him
that nil money now, Oh jeez, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
That's probably gonna happen. Baby Gronks probably got like two mins.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
You know what's weird? I I think I said it
in the pregame that I thought the Patriots are going
to win this game going away because of the person
But I didn't expect that. I thought they were gonna
win easy. And my favorites just how how easy it was.
Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
It's so funny that you have these lines for preseason, right,
you know.
Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
We got a game there was such a big favorite
is because it was known before that. Yeah, the personnel
the Patriots were going to play starters and the and
the commanders weren't open one quarter, but that gets you
a lead, and now that when the backups come in,
it's all cyclical. Fred. If you start ones against their twos,
(01:15:28):
then it's going to be your twos against their threes
and so on.
Speaker 10 (01:15:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:15:31):
Well, the first half line opened three and a half
went up to six, so the money came in crazy
when they said that the starters were starting.
Speaker 9 (01:15:38):
Yeah he should.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
I mean Fred, Fred knows all about gambling parlance. I
think you're thinking of a book about Fred's like gambling tape, okay,
because like usually he gets three points, so you know,
there he got three.
Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
It's true, you agree, very sarcastic.
Speaker 6 (01:15:57):
Three points. It don't take three.
Speaker 9 (01:15:59):
What's your favorite casina Vegas?
Speaker 6 (01:16:01):
I worked at the Wind. I worked for Wind. Yeah, yeah,
I had a I had a show in there every
day and I would walk in and you know, seven
am and people were sitting there drinking whiskey playing poker.
I'm like, now, are you still here or are you
just kidding?
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Don't just like just like looking at at the property? Like,
what do you think is the most compelling property in Vegas?
They call it property?
Speaker 6 (01:16:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (01:16:29):
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:16:31):
Nice is nice? I mean I'm biased, but I liked
the Wind. Some of them are just Cosmos nice. Yeah,
Cosmo has some good restaurants.
Speaker 9 (01:16:42):
At the best sports book Caesars.
Speaker 6 (01:16:47):
I like Circa Well, have you guys been a Circa swim? No,
It's a massive screen. It's really fun to go watch
football there a bunch of pools. Yeah, it's disgusting. I mean,
the pools are absolutely disgusting. But you know, you have
a few frozen whatevers, and you know you don't really
care of that.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
Don't necessarily go to the bathroom.
Speaker 6 (01:17:10):
I didn't say that you go to the bathroom in
the pool.
Speaker 4 (01:17:14):
I don't think we had to spell it out, fred Oh, okay.
I meant like, you didn't get up and actually go.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
To what happens in Vegas states in Vegas, including peing
in the pool. Correct, you don't talk about it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
You see what I deal with.
Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
This is my plight.
Speaker 6 (01:17:29):
I can't tell them.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
Sometimes we do kind of you know, we work it
out beforehand. But I think we're just giddy. Eighteen. I
think we're all still giddy.
Speaker 9 (01:17:40):
Would you consider yourself as shark?
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:17:43):
Are you trying to get people to hate on me?
I will say, when I lived in Vegas and I
only had one job, you know, focused on just football,
I hit the NFL as my second season ever doing it,
so it's probably a beginner's luck. But I hit fifty
six percent because I tracked everything. I had an Excel spreadworks.
I mean, I've never been close to that now, But
(01:18:05):
it was beginner's luck really, But yeah, we had to
give out plays every day in our show, so I
tracked it.
Speaker 9 (01:18:10):
And and so you actually put money down or.
Speaker 6 (01:18:13):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:18:14):
That's good because I think that if you're a sharp,
you should you know, I.
Speaker 6 (01:18:17):
Would I would not call I will not call myself
a sharp. I am a betting analyst for you know, companies.
And yeah, I put money down. That's why I love baseball,
because who really likes baseball unless you have money? Like
k prop And do you.
Speaker 9 (01:18:31):
Think that's the easiest sport to make money on baseball?
Speaker 6 (01:18:34):
No, A lot of people hate baseball, But I just
like I like data, so I like to look at
I go crazy with the pitching stats and stats and
fielding Hall.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Of Fame pitcher.
Speaker 6 (01:18:45):
Yeah, did you know he's in the Okay, No, I
actually did. That's really cool.
Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
What that left?
Speaker 4 (01:18:55):
Arm pp?
Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
Wow, Pepe with the army.
Speaker 9 (01:18:58):
And the deuce Lefty, you was a cage he left?
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
He Oh, well, he can find strikes.
Speaker 7 (01:19:09):
Five?
Speaker 9 (01:19:10):
He grunted after the.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Hall of Famer right here and D one hockey player
at holy Cross.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
That's right, D one one whole year now.
Speaker 4 (01:19:28):
Quarterback PP two to play two.
Speaker 1 (01:19:31):
I think I was the quarterback.
Speaker 9 (01:19:32):
I wasn't quarterback, and I wasn't played D one football too.
It's just that Everet, what did you do?
Speaker 17 (01:19:38):
Friend?
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
Aready? We don't have the time.
Speaker 9 (01:19:41):
I was more of an individual athlete, oh wrestling.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
He openly admitted I wasn't a good teammate. I had
to do individuals.
Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
I just don't like watching. I want to play all
every play. I don't want to sit out once. I
don't spend allergying out for your team to watch play.
Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
You know you can't. I can't make fun. That's the
one thing I didn't like about baseball is that I pitched,
and no, I can't pitch every game like I didn't
like the games that I wasn't pitching. No, I wasn't
a good enough hitter. Mm hmm, it is what it is.
I mean I made the team as an outfielder. I
(01:20:21):
was good enough to do that, but.
Speaker 9 (01:20:22):
You just weren't.
Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
It wasn't like they needed wasn't they didn't need to
get my bat in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
I think it was some point we just need Claudia
to listen to a Thursday show and we do picks
and just get her like gambling analysis.
Speaker 4 (01:20:33):
Of and you'll understand that all of this talk is
not serious.
Speaker 6 (01:20:39):
Well yeah, I will.
Speaker 1 (01:20:40):
Say we do.
Speaker 4 (01:20:41):
We pick every game with the spread, and we do
pretty well.
Speaker 9 (01:20:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:20:45):
I mean, if you know football bettings. Everyone thinks betting
is so overwhelming, but it's not if you understand the game.
It's just are they going to keep it within a
field goal or a touchdown or two? Yeah, well tease
down if there's big spreads? Are we like a dog teams?
Speaker 9 (01:21:05):
Listen to the jargon.
Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
Trouble, which is like the basic like no, their favorite
dogs him and this is the guy you call a shark.
Speaker 9 (01:21:16):
Yeah, this would be one. I would fade.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
We go around the circle, do with the pics, and
we always get to Fred and here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Nothing that elicits a Fred Paul argument, like him declaring
something an upset that was like a one point spread
game for.
Speaker 9 (01:21:37):
A little little fat Claudia Denver Broncos have more home
games per year than any other team.
Speaker 6 (01:21:43):
Bred that's an amazing step for your gambling, I will
I'll use it.
Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
That started at least fifteen years ago, right, yeah, like
the Broncos at home. Of course, all the games are
at home. White Notre Dame all games.
Speaker 6 (01:22:02):
Yeah, no, I'm sure we got we got a few minutes.
What's going on on one?
Speaker 7 (01:22:11):
Hey, guys, two questions for you, but he got there
at least.
Speaker 19 (01:22:18):
First one, how do you think Henderson is going to
have this rookie year? And who's our next best safety
besides Dugger and Philip?
Speaker 9 (01:22:28):
Henderson's gonna go for four hundred and sixty three? No,
I was going to say three eighty three.
Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
Okay, three, I'm going to go four to sixty three
like that, like the four hundreds number around there.
Speaker 1 (01:22:38):
I think that'd be that'd be great, that'd be amazing.
Speaker 9 (01:22:41):
How many cuttings contributing off catches?
Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
Four? I say one, one, three.
Speaker 6 (01:22:48):
I'm looking at Jamior Gibbs staff. I'm not saying they're
one of one, like you're going not one of one.
Gibbs had two fifty and sixteen touchdowns. Oh wait, that
was ratching excision. Wait, fifty two cashes, five hundred and
seventeen yards, four touchdowns.
Speaker 9 (01:23:06):
Okay, that's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
I mean, I mean that's.
Speaker 6 (01:23:08):
Outline in general with the rushing and receivers.
Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
That two headed Montgomery and him like more two, whereas
this one might be a little more, maybe a little
less opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
On one of the two or three best offenses in football.
Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
Yeah, yeah, that's the offensive lines.
Speaker 4 (01:23:22):
Not necessarily in the forty eight. Notwithstanding, I'm not this
is being one of the best two offenses in football now.
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
Jamier Gibs is a freak, but I Henderson, he's gonna
be a big piece of this offense this year. And
I think it's exciting to find an offensive piece like that.
It's just so hard to find for this team for
some reason for a while. And I just love this
run there showing right now, just because it just shows
the little jump step he has and just I keep
saying that he floats.
Speaker 9 (01:23:46):
But it's just like power speed. Yeah you know.
Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
I mean I love that hit too. The finish just
lower your shoulder. I mean, that's the finished shocking about
Paul there with Raves, you know, like this is what
the guys all do, Like take the hit.
Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
On you hurt that guy too.
Speaker 9 (01:24:01):
He's stunned them. Exciting good stuff, all right, tick tick tick.
Speaker 6 (01:24:08):
Oh, we aren't going to want to I do want
to say, by the way, see all of your emails,
thank you for welcoming me in and saying I did
a good job. I appreciate you, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
I don't want to read him something anyone that really
what's the best one.
Speaker 6 (01:24:21):
I don't want to read them the ones about myself.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
There's a kicker question.
Speaker 6 (01:24:29):
Do you think the fifty seven yard field goal carries
any weight in the kicker competition or is it just
a drop in the bucket of the overall valuation of
Travis I.
Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
Mean, it's not a little of both.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Yeah, it's definitely part of it, but it's part of
a really good picture from Parker Romo. He's been going
neck to neck with a rookie. He understands the situation
they drafted this kid. He's going to not only have
to beat him, he's gonna have to convincingly beat him.
And you hit a fifty seven yard field goal, That's.
Speaker 4 (01:24:51):
What's more about making a field you know what I mean? Like,
fifty seven is great, but these guys all have the
ability to make those long field goals nowaday, I mean
Joe's I made a sixty three yarder last year right
in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (01:25:05):
No, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:25:07):
Know, you just completely all this stuff the field goal, Tom,
but no.
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Field.
Speaker 4 (01:25:15):
But the fact that these two guys, I think all
summer long have been nails. That's a competition. I think
they'll probably go with Bora Gallis for obvious reasons as
a draft pick. But both guys have been very good.
Speaker 1 (01:25:30):
And if you're parking Romo, you if you don't get stepped,
you're gonna find.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Good that's gonna help you.
Speaker 3 (01:25:35):
Is it unheard of putting a kicker on your practice squad?
Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
Then they kind of do with and Chad Ryland a
couple of years ago. That was I think Ryland made
or did Folk make it? And Ryland went to the way.
I forget how they worked them, I forget what.
Speaker 4 (01:25:48):
They did, but no, they've the teams have done that.
And I think Romo was on the practice squad last year,
wasn't he.
Speaker 9 (01:25:55):
The h Okay, that's right, Parker Romo.
Speaker 4 (01:25:57):
Yeah, so when he was still like John Parker, good
problem to have.
Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
I mean, I'll take it. I mean it's uh, I
mean it kind of goes to Paul's point. It's just
like you can find a.
Speaker 4 (01:26:08):
Case two guys kicking well all summer and as opposed
to like Justin Rollwasser who couldn't make one right.
Speaker 6 (01:26:17):
You know, how does he kick its sideways right, amazing
Joey's life.
Speaker 9 (01:26:22):
Do you think that they need starts get all the reps?
Speaker 1 (01:26:28):
Yeah? Probably, I mean I don't know if you need
that in the summer, Like he could probably just let
somebody win the job and go into it. But Dad,
I just keep one of them. I don't know. Ir
Ro was kicking around.
Speaker 4 (01:26:39):
I wouldn't be a post if if you clear you know,
you cut Romo and then he clears waivers or whatever,
and you put him on the practice squad. You have
sixteen spots. I wouldn't It's not to me. That's not
a wasted spot. You know, you just give you buy
yourself a little time. Make sure the rookie is you know,
up to up to speed?
Speaker 9 (01:26:58):
Yep, okay, what else?
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
Anytime?
Speaker 9 (01:27:05):
Not my show, it's club.
Speaker 6 (01:27:06):
No, I got a bunch more.
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
I don't want.
Speaker 6 (01:27:08):
I want to make sure you guys were done with
the kicker talk and Tyler we will get to before
we had out.
Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
I don't want to miss it.
Speaker 6 (01:27:15):
We God, he says. We know Bourne is hurt, but
under Josh before he did really well. Does that give
him an edge? Also, Antonio Gibson had some really serious
runs tonight, does it make sense to keep all three
or trade Stevenson?
Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
No, No, Steve Stevenson, Gibson and yeah, yeah, Henderson.
Speaker 9 (01:27:31):
Are all going to be absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
I remember there was one year the Patriots kept five
running backs and people are like, what are they gonna
do with all of them?
Speaker 9 (01:27:39):
And because of injuries, they all ended up playing.
Speaker 4 (01:27:42):
Can you just give me the year that that might
have been.
Speaker 9 (01:27:44):
It's about fifteen years And that's why I.
Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
Figured back when teams ran the.
Speaker 9 (01:27:48):
Ball, it's still five.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
I don't need five. Three's plenty, but we're going to
run the ball. But they are. And that's why you
need running. You can't just have like one guy you need, you.
Speaker 20 (01:28:00):
Need, you need at least three, at least three, at
least three and then practice and Laryson, might you know
I like Terrell Jennings, Mike Mike and I have been
sort of higher, higher on him than most, I would say,
but more last year than this year.
Speaker 9 (01:28:16):
Larison. Remind you rex burghead a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:28:19):
They keep saying that, but no, no, no, But like
Devin and Jason were like all over that the other
night in like thirty four and he.
Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
Looks like, I don't know he looks small to me.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
He's yeah, I thought Birdhead was a bigger a bigger back.
Speaker 9 (01:28:34):
Yeah. How were the Twins tonight?
Speaker 4 (01:28:37):
They were good?
Speaker 6 (01:28:37):
Yeah, Yeah they're fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:28:39):
Yeah, they're good. I was Zoe was.
Speaker 9 (01:28:43):
Somebody said his head size is open umbrella. I talked
to a lot of people against.
Speaker 4 (01:28:55):
He's my colleague. I can't. I can't make a car
like good.
Speaker 1 (01:29:00):
A lot of big headed people around here. Let's let's
just be nice to me.
Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
That's why you get confused for a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
I have gotten a spicker from that guy more than
I can remember, and it probably makes him upset because
he's like six five and I'm not six five. But
I do think with my hair, and if I got
some glasses, I could probably do a pretty good Zo
like Halloween costume if I.
Speaker 4 (01:29:21):
Got just start mumbling incoherently.
Speaker 1 (01:29:25):
Need the shades, No, I need the shades in it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:27):
Yeah you make a point, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
No, it's the side the partner. I think I could
do it right. We'll do it maybe Halloween this year,
and that'll be my instead of when I was nineties
Patriots fan last year, I'll be I'll be Zoe this
year for Halloween on our r PU show that falls
on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Speaker 6 (01:29:46):
Oh, Tyler and Delaware.
Speaker 4 (01:29:49):
You get the last word, get the last Hey, you
guys are to hear me?
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Yeah, we got cha.
Speaker 17 (01:29:55):
Awesome, awesome, Hey man, I'm super excited for how we
look today. I also want to to say a Claudia,
fantastic job.
Speaker 6 (01:30:02):
Thank you.
Speaker 17 (01:30:03):
First day on the show.
Speaker 6 (01:30:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 19 (01:30:05):
We were joking.
Speaker 17 (01:30:06):
Around in the chat regarding emails, so if you get
a chance, please read Eric's email.
Speaker 19 (01:30:11):
But my question was.
Speaker 17 (01:30:15):
My question was actually regarding the joint practice. So the
joint practices, Uh, would you say that they actually hold
more weight regarding the passing game as opposed to what
we saw from Drake today. He did very well in
the joint practice, and I just wanted to get your
thoughts on that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:34):
Yeah, I think that's a good Yeah, I would say,
I think, yeah, that's a good one. I mean, still
continue to like to go back to the point of
them pushing the ball down the field consistently. I don't
know if that was necessarily in the joint practice, but
I say the joint practice was reflective of Drake May's
ability to process and seem like he's comfortable in the offense.
That's what it's looked like all all summer and spring.
(01:30:54):
So I just want to see it translate into a game.
And that's you know, again he's going against the twos
and threes tonight. That's the next step for Drake and
that's what this team like. As good as tonight was,
this team is ultimately going to be successful or not
on what Drake's development looks like. And you know that
fumble could easily been seven and you know we're in
a game, and so he's got to cut that stuff out.
It's just very simple for me with Drake with the
(01:31:15):
turnovers and at the end of game situations and you know,
those are those are the spots he needs to be good.
And from all accounts, it sounds like Rabel and Drake
and everybody else totally get that's the that's the final
front tier.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
So but that is a good point the way think
about the situation and try to make it a regular
season game. So you get the kickoff return for a touchdown,
you get right down the field, then you get a
three and out, get the ball right back and then
you potentially hand them seven points and now all of
a sudden, you completely dominated the beginning part of the game,
but it's seven to seven halfway through the first quarter. Yeah,
(01:31:49):
so that's the kind of stuff that, well, what should
be right?
Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
And I mean, you know, bringing it back to what
Rabel said when he first came here, you know, are
we good enough to take advantage of bad foot ball?
And when you're putting the bad football on yourself, it's
a lot harder to overcome those kind of mistakes.
Speaker 4 (01:32:04):
And Rabel to me making that comment and halftime, and
I know he reiterated it in his postgame press conference,
that tells me that it's it's important. Yeah, you know,
the coach saw it the same way that you know,
the nitpicky media side.
Speaker 1 (01:32:19):
Well, and it's interesting too. I mean, just what stood
out to me was how up front Rabel was about
that right to Steve Burton as he's walking off the field.
You know, I mean, again, I hate doing comparison stuff,
but you know, Bill never tell you anything about anything.
But you know, it's just Rabel kind of he's honest,
He just and we all know it. I Mean, that's
exactly the thing we're thinking going into the half is like, jeez,
Jake Drake can't do that And you know, it's validating.
Speaker 9 (01:32:41):
Did you hear Roach's question? Did you hear that?
Speaker 7 (01:32:44):
So?
Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
In the in the post game, Roach said, so you know, Mike,
you know the turnover. Is that the kind of thing
you know, uh, you don't want to see, you know,
like you get frustrated. And Rabel's like, so are you
answering the question? Roach is like, yeah, you got me.
He's like, you nailed it.
Speaker 9 (01:33:01):
That was moving on.
Speaker 1 (01:33:02):
Yeah, good job, good job, Rogie, love you.
Speaker 6 (01:33:07):
Eric wants to know about the pass rush. He said,
it's a concern. We got hurries but no sacks. If
they can fix those two areas that in the passing game. Basically,
I feel we have a solid season on our hands,
and that is something we talked about to begin with.
That was one of the keys, just the trenches in general.
Of course, last year defense had the fewest sacks in
the NFL is twenty eight third worst past defense overall
(01:33:30):
pressure erate was down. How'd you feel about them tonight?
Speaker 1 (01:33:32):
Well, I feel like they were missing their three best
pass rushers. They were missing you know, Harold Landry who
was outstanding, and joint practices Kalo and Chase On has
been hurt and Christian Barmore. So those three guys in
camp have been the most consistent pressure guys. Maybe I
would say I would like to see a little bit
more consistent disruption from Milton Williams, the big free agent,
but I think him and Barmore are still going to
be a handful.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
Let's get put Barret Williams and that changes good luck, right, but.
Speaker 1 (01:33:56):
Get Chase on back to I think it'd be great
to just have you like Chase the well, just have
the option of a of a real good edge rusher
who can you know, get around. And I mean he's
just he's also a guy that seems like he's he
was in Jacksonville kind of a disappointment, had a good
year across from Max Crisby last year, and now he,
you know, maybe seems poised to take advantage of this
opportunity a little better. But I've been really impressed with
(01:34:17):
Landry too. I just thought he, you know, kind of
came on slow to me. But he's just got a
good way about him. Seems like a real professional. He's
going to stick his nose in there stop the run.
But he's also I might have to have.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
A roofer look at my ceiling because it might have
to be raised. Yeah, for Landry, No, for the team.
Speaker 4 (01:34:33):
Just don't work the long road to Grandma's house a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
We're talking. We going double digits.
Speaker 9 (01:34:38):
We have to double. That's my my ceiling? Now is ten?
Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
All right?
Speaker 7 (01:34:41):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:34:42):
What was your ceiling before?
Speaker 9 (01:34:44):
I know? It has been ten?
Speaker 12 (01:34:46):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:34:46):
Okah, yeah, that's what I thought.
Speaker 1 (01:34:49):
So now he has more?
Speaker 9 (01:34:51):
Okay, ten?
Speaker 6 (01:34:51):
What I'm missing?
Speaker 9 (01:34:52):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:34:53):
I wrap it up, says the boss said, Eric.
Speaker 6 (01:34:59):
I want to just know quickly do you actually think
ten wins?
Speaker 9 (01:35:02):
No? Six?
Speaker 6 (01:35:05):
Okay? And what do you think the number is?
Speaker 9 (01:35:07):
It'll probably be like eight or nine?
Speaker 1 (01:35:09):
What do you think nine? I'm going to say eight.
Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
Tent I'm gonna say eight nine.
Speaker 4 (01:35:13):
But I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 9 (01:35:16):
What I'm saying is I'm open to adjusting that. You know.
Speaker 6 (01:35:20):
Well, no, you need to tell us now because it's
the preseason.
Speaker 1 (01:35:24):

Speaker 9 (01:35:26):
