Speaker 4 (00:28):
Anyway, this was the episode that Mike do So was
excited about the future.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I just I saw I'm able to jump into practice,
and I'm like, oh, that's it.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Ten wins.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
It would have been two more wins last year, which
means two more wins this year, which means the floor
is eight.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Fred has spoken.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
The ceiling is settled for Paul.

Speaker 3 (00:45):

Speaker 2 (01:27):
All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
atchi Lets Stadium, and it's a busy day. It's the
first O t A that the media has had access to.
So right now you see that I'm all by my lonesome,
I'm fred Kersh. But soon, in momentarily I'll be joined
by the gang.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
They're just wrapping up practice in player availability after practice,
so uh, don't fear you won't have to put up
with just me for the next two hours.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
But as I said, practice was today, I was out
there for a little bit before I had to come in.
Pretty nice day here at Jillette Stadium, a little overcast, cool,
I would say, you know, a little mile for this
time of year, temperature in the fifties, a little bit
of breeze. Teams were out in helmets in shells, so

(02:16):
they had their jerseys on with their numbers as in
years past. Remember sometimes they didn't put numbers on until
into training camp at some point when the preseason game started.
But they had numbers right away. So we'll get an
attendance report, a full attendance report when the guys get back.

(02:38):
But it was a nice day out there. It looked
like a normal practice. You know, started out with some
unit drills, then it went to stretching, then they break
out back into you know, the position drills. I don't
know if they got into seven and sevens. I didn't
stay that long. We'll get that report a little later,
but it was I would say, a productive day for

(03:00):
the team. Good to be out there. Mike Rabel had
a press conference prior to the practice where he talked about,
you know, it's mostly a teaching practice this time of year,
but there is some evaluation that goes on, not really
like who's going to beat out who for a position,
but more how is an individual doing? How have they

(03:22):
taken to learning so far? Are they a repeat? Are
they making mistakes more than once? Are they absorbing what
they're telling us? So in that way, there is evaluation
that's going on in addition.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
To the teaching.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
And as I say that the ultimate teacher comes in
and sits down, it's Mike too.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
So the first off the field, Hello, Mike.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I know I was just giving people a little bit
of an update of what I saw, but I left early. Yeah,
pretty much right after stretching, So you can fill us
in what happened after that.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Well, I feel compelled to probably just tell people that
Drake May did throw four interceptions today, and that's probably
going to be a headline for a lot of a
lot of the reports you read. But hearing from the
people after the practice, including Hunter, Henry said, this is
our second day all together working on this second day
in the Josh mctaniel's offense.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
So just to give everybody a little bit of.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
I had to focus on the positive, all right, Christians
can Christian Dallas had two of them.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
As I consult my notes here.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
You know, it wasn't like, oh my god, terrible interceptions,
but you know, a couple of them were really nice
plays by by Gonzalez. It was a tough period where
it was del Pettis, then Gonzalez got to and then
Craig Woodson, the rookie, caught it deflected interception as well.
So it was a rough little period there for Drake
that I'm sure everybody's going to talk about and overreact to.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
But I'll just say this.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Let me just well before we get back to that, though,
I just say the thing that caught my eyes I
was walking out here was Morgan Moses and Will Campbell
a one on one session in the middle of the practice.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
I might need a moment. No, I might need a moment.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
You'll be happy to know that our videos, members of
radio team, we're capturing this. But I mean it went
on a good I would say five to ten minutes
that Morgan Moses is just exactly taking young Will Campbell under.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
His wing, giving him some coaching points. So that as
I walked up, I was excited about that. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, No, everybody was kind of like, hey, look, it's
like everybody could tell but no, So I thought there
was a lot to take away from today, but those
are going to be the headline. So I just feel
like you got to get it out. People are going
to be you know, they were asking Hunter Henry about
the interceptions. They asked Christian Zalez about the interception. So
it is it, like I said, it's day two for
these guys in this offense.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
So so they.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Actually did do like seven and seven or eleven on eleven.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, they did.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
They did some eleven on eleven work and you know
at the end there was more walk through speed and
you could hear Rabel like, we're not trying to make
plays on the ball like this is just walk through,
which Paul turned to me and was like, I hope
the media made note of that because it's a little
bit of a different pace there at the very end.
But I thought though after that session where Drake through
those interceptions, he bounced back, he had some nice plays.

(05:56):
I had one nice throw to Kyle Williams down the sideline.
I think everyone wants to hear about the rookies. Kyle
Williams was very involved today, as was Trevon Henderson. Both
those two rookies getting a lot of run and will
Campbell with Henderson catching balls, catching the ball look comfortable,
looks smooth. I think, you know, I don't want to
speak for Paul, who look he can't be here, but

(06:16):
he said he did. He felt like Henderson looked really
comfortable catching the ball, which you know, if you watched
him play in college, but once he gets here in
the NFL and you see him in then at Patriots,
you know, helmet and practice uniform, it it's a little
bit different. So I thought those guys stood out to me.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, And then as far as coaching, obviously you mentioned
Mike rabel I told our listeners that he had his
pre practice press conference. Yeah, but some of the other
new coaches, did you catch a glimpse of like their style? Yeah,
I mean I look obviously McDaniels, everybody probably want to know,
like he was obviously very involved with Drake.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
It's just great to see the visor back out there,
that the Drake may visor where he's He's sorry that
Josh McDaniel's visor. I'm merging them together. But Scott Booker
can used to stand out to me. And I don't
know if that's simply a function of Terrell Williams not
being here yet to coordinate the defense.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
I know, he said.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Zach Kerr, the linebackers coach, has been taking a bigger role.
He was very active in some of the defensive periods
I watched. But Scott Booker's just hard to miss. He's
very loud voice. He seems like he knows where he
wants guys. He's always got a smile. He's just got
a lot of really great energy. Everyone focuses on Vrabel's
energy and him dropping, and that wasn't as much of
that today, certainly helping various groups out, but wasn't as

(07:29):
much in the drills at the end in that walkthrough period,
hopped out at a safety spot.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
To give a look. But yeah, those are the Booker's
a guy that stuck out to me for sure.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
And do we have a chance to have a first
look at our new kicker?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
All right, rookie kick a little bit.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Yeah, they did a short kicking period. The first one
he kicked, it went through me and Paul. I mean,
this is we're getting to be more refined with our kicker.
Like it was kind of going ten to four. It
was a little bit of a side. But then as
other ones look fine, I mean he hit all of them.
That was a very short It wasn't a competitive period.
They weren't trying to amp up like last year they
did where you know, the team lines up around them

(08:03):
and you know it was just kind of, hey, kick
some field goals. So so he was fine. I don't think.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
I'm just sorry. I'm still gathering my thoughts here. I
don't think.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
I don't think Farmer was out there. Farmer one of
the rookies, so he was one of the ones missing.
But for the most part they had pretty much the
whole group. I mean, Diggs wasn't there. Stevenson, which I
don't know if you talked about that yet, but I haven't.
His father passed away in March, so Mike, we're able
talked a little bit about that. He was here, he's left,
so they've.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Been in communication. He's dealing with ye with that at home.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
But really those were the only three, Uh, you know,
a lot of guys limited though, but for the most part,
the whole team is pretty much here other than Diggs,
Stevenson and Farmer, So.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
I think that's a good sign.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, you know, from what I gathered, the vibe was
really good, upbeat, energetic and breaking out of huddles, quick
music playing. And you know, some fans might be interested
to know. Were there any notable differences from last year.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
I mean there weren't a lot of differences last year
between what we had seen under Bill Belichick and you know,
then this year, and I mean it's I find it interesting,
but you know, it's just kind of changing up the
dynamics of when you stretch and instead of being all right,
we're gonna stand on the sidelines and walk to the
middle and back, we're now we're all gonna be down
one end and walk from the end zone forward you know,

(09:20):
so some subtle differences like that, but I think overall
the general feeling of how practice goes where they get
out there, they do a little walk through with some
positional stuff. I guess now I'm saying it though, Fred,
maybe that's the difference. It's in the past, it felt
like we get out there, they do walk through that
was like we couldn't tape it or anything because they'd
be working on some kind of team piece of it,

(09:41):
and to really yeah, maybe maybe truly, but now it
seems like the early earlier drills, and again this could yeah,
this could just be OTA's but more position group based.
It's a little looser, guys are a little slower coming out.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
I think that's just OTA related.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
But but once you got into it, I'd say generally
it kind of falls the same.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
You get into eleven on eleven, seven on seven towards
the end.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
And when Paul and Evan comes, we'll get their take
on it as well. While you're here, I also want
to mention people probably know that on Friday we released
the episode one of Forged in Foxborough. So so far
it looks like you all like it. About over three
hundred and seventy thousand views just on YouTube awesome, So

(10:24):
you know, I want to get into that if people
have comments about that, what they like, what they didn't like. Mike,
I saw that you had an extended review with FITZI online.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
I went on with Fitzy this morning. He you know,
wanted to talk a little bit about it. Of course,
I think I have about a thirty and mall even
twenty second cameo in it, which was really cool to
be part of it.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
But I just for me, I've always I talk about
it all the time on this show. I always bring up.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
The Football Life with Bill back in two thousand and nine,
and for me, seeing behind the scenes of a coach
speaking to the team and really how the coach wants
to mold that team and putting his imprint on it.
And I think that to me right from the get
go with Rabel behind the scenes, hearing him talk to
the team, and it just reinforces for me what we've
seen out at these two practices we watched so far,

(11:08):
that he's putting his stamp on this team, like this
is his team. He knows what he wants, he knows
what he's looking for, and you know, had an extended
kind of not talking to but just broke the team
down for a while at the end of practice, you know,
given his message.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
So it's just you can tell.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
I mean, it's it's the same thing I noticed where
it doesn't matter what position it is, he's talking to
the punt returners about.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
You know, you just see him going up to the
random third string guy that just took.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
A rep and getting up there and and showing him
the technique that he's looking for.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
So it's it's encouraging.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
It's going to be fascinating this year because we've got
a guy in Mike Rabel who, throughout his playing career,
it was.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Obvious that this guy was going to be a coach.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah, I mean, everybody who interacted with him on the
field saw how smart he was and how he absorbed everything,
not just like his own position, but what the whole
team was doing. And he was also absorbing as he
went along, how coaches operate and how practices were operated.
And you know during the week, how you know, Bill

(12:11):
prepared the team for the opponent, and then not just here,
but in all his stops, Ohio State and Houston Oilers, And.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
It's just so obvious.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
So now you know, he has his first stint in Tennessee,
and I think the Patriots are going to have the
benefit of a guy who now gets another chance at
it and he's learned even more and you know, can
learn not only the stuff that he did well, but
from his mistakes in Tennessee. And we're going to be
the beneficiary of that. So I'm really excited to see that.

(12:43):
And when I see him out there, that's what I see.
I see a guy that's ultra confident in what he's
doing and knows what he wants to do, Like he knows, Okay,
this is how I want to interact with Specialty. And
by the way, the first group that he with today
with special Teams, you know you would think, oh, he's
going to go right to the defense or Drake. No,

(13:04):
he was Special Teams. And I think every part of
this team. I think he has an idea already how
he wants that unit to be and how his interaction
and his you know, involvement in that group will be.
It's I think he's got the whole season planned out. Yeah,
I swear to.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
God well, and that's and that's why I said to
Paul Paul was getting ready to interview him for something.
He's right, and I think it might be for the
for the Game Day magazine. But that's what I My
interesting question with for Rabes is just what did you learn? Like,
what's different? How did you go into Tennessee? What did
you change a little bit? We always knew he had
the knowledge. I think what's been fun for me to
watch is him develop his coaching style.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
It's one thing to.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Like have the knowledge to be able to coach it,
but you also have to teach, and we hear him
talk about being a teacher so much so I think
you really see the influence of his parents as educators
on him getting guys up to speed and you know
clearly the guy can hold a room and capture that attention.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Evan has joined us. Evan, you are out there. Put
him on the cut cut to we couldn't take my song?
You got a song? I'm special. No, it feels good

(14:19):
to be back right back in the saddle football out there.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
So what you know, come off the legend Due already
gave the headlines that probably everyone will be which was
Drake May's day.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yeah, but aside from that, what would be your headline,
I would say, you know, just looking at the two
pairings on defense, Christian Barmore and Milton Williams on the
defensive line, and then obviously Gonzo and Carlton Davis that corner,
it felt like those two guys, those tandems were together
all day long, working early on you know, and I

(14:56):
think you can see the goal there, you know, see
the the vision in terms of the roster on defense,
and you know, we always get out of these practices
and it's always you know, it was it a good
day for the offense or a good day for the defense,
or a bad day for the offense, or whatever the
case may be. But Christian Gonzalez looked like the best
player on the field, which I don't think is a

(15:17):
big surprise, but it was certainly palpable in this practice.
Just I thought his second interception that he had on
on Drake May was just an incredible play. I mean,
you look at that play and you kind of just
have to tip your cap to the corner and be like,
that's that's mean he covered like forty yards, Like I
don't know what.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
You know, as you say that isn't this good for
Drake May to have Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzales in
every one of his practices and to be going against
what could be one of the best pairs of corners
in the league every day, just the way Brady you know,
benefited from having Tylaw out there, and you know.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Yeah, so love it. I love it. We wanted to
throw in himself.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Well, it's not so much that, but you know, he's
going to learn from practice where I would say, you know,
there might be a lot of young quarterbacks who don't
have you know, that type of uh you know skill again,
you know, working against them where they don't get to
learn in practice as much. So another thing to be
excited about if you're Patriots fans.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Sure, and both those guys Davis and gazalz hopping in.
Gonzalez last year is coming off an injury, he was
still getting his feet wet and understanding how to play.
So yeah, it's it's a lot of promising pieces on defense.
I mean, there's plenty to digest. It's but it seems
like a lot of different personnel moving around, trying guys
out at certain spots. Thought the safety's got a lot
of a lot of long looks to the lower end

(16:41):
safety guys, you know, like the del Pettises of the world,
the Craig Woodson's of the world.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Those guys getting a lot of runs. So it's it's fun.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
I mean, it's fun for me is defense guy, to
see it start to come together and you know, to
see splaying out there and the free agency behind the
guys that Evan mentioned with Barmore and Williams, and you
really see the core of this new defense.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
It's it's going to be different and I'm excited about Yeah,
anything else. Evan, Well, I know that the headlines are
going to be about the four picks. Yeah, and I
know that's gonna a lot of people are gonna read
that and be like, oh, And I would just say
it's very early on, Like we're watching day two of
OTAs and we're watching an offense with Josh McDaniels that
I kind of expected to be a slow burn. Like

(17:21):
I think we all we talked about it that there
was a lot of mentally on the quarterback. There's a
lot of technical things. You know, there are instances today
where you know, he's hot, he's got you know, an
unblocked blitzer and he's got to make a quick decision,
and you know, was that a protection thing that they
should have moved the protection to pick up the blitzers
he's supposed to just throw. And there's some hesitancies there

(17:41):
and you know, route details and like there's all these
little intricacies to offensive football, especially in this kind of
system that on May twentieth, like there's just gonna be
bumps in the road, and you just hope as we
go here that it just gets better and better and
better and those mistakes, you know, become fewer and fewer.
Nobody likes to see the quarterback throw picks like that's

(18:02):
that's not going to be positive no matter what. But
I'm not surprised that as we see it here at
a very early stage of the off season, that this
McDaniel's offense isn't what it's going to look like come
September or October, November. It's it's a complicated system. It's
gonna take some time, of course.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Of course. All right, let's get to some calls. Is
Paul cumming or is he you know, he had to
go to his thing. Oh that's right, Yeah, he's got
a thing.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Yeah, Okay, I sat with him, though I got all
his thoughts. Okay, he's very excited, very excited.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
All right, Well, let's let's add in some listeners and
also remember, you know, I want to carve out some
time at some point for your reaction to Forge in
Foxborough to see what people have to say about that.
But you know, while practice is still fresh on our minds,
let's get any questions that we might have. We'll start
with Patty and Agawam, what's up Patty's everyone?

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Hey, hey, a.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Frid, I just want to go straight to four and Foxborough.

Speaker 7 (19:01):
Okay, I watched the whole thing to the end, including
all the credits, and I've got to stay a big
bravo to you, my man.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
And I've said this almost every year that I've been
a listener and a caller and an emailer for the
last thirty years. You're the undisputed king of Patriots media.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Well I had to probably the least amount to do
with it than anyone, but I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (19:23):
But anyone that doesn't know the name Fred Kirsch or
Patriots on Filter Sport, that does not come to Patriots
dot com, you're doing yourself a disservice as a Patriots
band Wow, that's all I gotta say.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
All right, what happened in practice?

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Plater go Okay, thank you, Patty.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Unfortunately he's talking to people who do know s so,
but that's I appreciate.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
That was kind of a fun part for me though,
Like obviously the whole thing was great, but then to
get you get to the credits and it's like all
people that you know and are friends with and you
just see all your coworkers get in some shine. It
was cool.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Yeah, yeah, I worry about that though. I don't like
the you know, saying giving credit to ourselves like today,
I guess we were won a bunch of awards Teley
Awards for various things that we did in twenty twenty four,
including the Tom Brady Day, and it's great, but like

(20:16):
I feel uncomfortable saying.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Well, look what we want.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Ye I know that's the way it is today and
you you know, you celebrate your accomplishments and all that,
but I don't know, I was kind of schooled under
a different regime where you kind of give credit to
others and yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, So I don't
know what's that, Matt, because we didn't nominate it for anything.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Podcast we probably should have. Yeah, is there like a
podcast thing that you can do? There's the Channel Market
Media survey, right that they do every year where they say,
oh yeah, yeah yeah, the best Patriots podcast.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, that's a survey.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
We we usually register in that one, don't we, even
though we're not we're not. Did people write us in? Yeah,
we don't get really bad?

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Yeah that's how we.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
But Matt will we'll make note of that for next
year to you know, whatever the podcast award committees are.
It was Rhode Island Monthly's Best Part. Okay, it all
right good.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
A lot of these awards it's like you just have
to submit it, I know, and you submit it and
you pay the fee, you might win.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
That's the other thing.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
It's like, you know, all of them are money making.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
That was like, you know, I discovered when I was
a screenwriting contest. That's like, you know huge, It's just
that people can't screenwrite them. They have screenwriting contests like
pay me to read your scripts and here's the best.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Smart right right, Yeah, it's a money grab all right.
Dominique is in New York. What's up Dominique here?

Speaker 3 (21:47):
How you doing good?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Good?

Speaker 8 (21:50):
The first and foremost like congress on the documentary about
the phenomenal I really really enjoyed it, Evan, I know
a part but for me this is you know, our
hot arts, and I actually appreciate the hype that you
know it's given me for the season. I appreciate the
shots of Will Campbell just being you know, brought into Foxbug,

(22:12):
getting a little bit of understanding what you know, the
draft process was for the past this year. So you'all
did a phenomenal job. I'm really excited to see the
second episode and get to know the plays a little
bit more, you know, get some interviews. So so, great
job there, y'all for a real great job.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (22:30):
So I have a quick question outside of that. I
know everyone we all know that May have these tools
to be the franchise quarterback. I think some people are
labeling that I'm a little bit of hesitant.

Speaker 9 (22:41):
I feel like with.

Speaker 8 (22:42):
These conversations I always try to point to at least
the string of plays or games where you realize he
is the one or he should be the one. Can
either of you, all three of you recall when you
realize whether it was a game a string of plays
that Drake May is the potential franchise quarter you know,
quarterback for the next ten to fifteen years. I'll take

(23:04):
it off one.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Okay, thanks.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
So when was the moment last year where you realize
he is or could be the franchise court now for Paul,
he he'd say I have it.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
I don't think he'd be totally wrong to say that,
but I would say, just for me to hoot that
Houston game when he threw the touchdown of Booty. I mean,
it's we saw throws like that in training camp and
he just translated it to a game.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
But that's as close as I can get.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
I can't really say, like, oh, this was the moment
I knew for sure, Like him doing that in a
game to me just showed this kid can push the
ball down the field. He's not afraid, and he's gonna
throw everything he has into it out there. So but
we'll see this year, like I don't want to make
that jump in like I want it this year.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
I want this year to be like I don't think
there was any one moment. I think it was.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
A compilation of a skill set that I saw, like
him being able to do different things at a high level.
You know, he hasn't done the big thing, which is like,
you know, lead a comeback and.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Right, and the end of the Tennessee game was like clos.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
You know, So there's still more to be seen.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Obviously number one is eliminating those mistakes. But I think
over the course of the games, I saw a skill
set that it said, Okay, this can be elite if
if now the head follows the skill sets there.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah, that's exactly how I would put it. Not to
play Paul, but like, I don't know if he's the
franchise quarterback yet. You know, he's got to go out
there and win games. But you see the flashes of
him being a franchise talent. You know, Let's see if
he can be more consistent even today, Like he makes
some great throws today, he also made some not so
great throws, So like, if you can, you got to

(24:44):
package the great ones and kind of put those in
a bottle and make those more consistent and then you
have a franchise quarterback. But the Rams game, I would
say was probably his best game from start to finish,
where I started to be like, all right, you know,
some of these throws, some of the reads he was
making and things like that are are really really high level.
And I thought that was his best game last year.
So if there was a moment that I said, Okay,

(25:06):
this has we have legs here, you know, this could
have the makings of it, I would say probably against
the Rams, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Mean some of the out of pocket stuff. Yeah, you know,
throws out of pocket on the run. You know, in
today's NFL, if you're not Tom Brady, to be elite,
you need to be able to do that.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
It's just so hard because he has all the talent
in the world necessary to do it, but so do
a lot of other guys that never put it together.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
So it's you know, there's got to be some magic within.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
And I was just I mean I was looking back
at my notes, you know, bouncing back after that four
interception one eighty five on a crosser Williams on the sideline.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
I thought that was a pretty nice throw.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
And then a little little backshorlett, a little fade the
baker against Gonzalez. So he did make some nice throws today.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Yeah, Well Ononda Williams was probably his best throw. Just
it would look like, as Paul is to say, it
looked like an NFL play. At the timing and the
rhythm of it looked really good. The interceptions I think
are all just a little things where he's he's learning.
You know, he's learning. All right, that's Christian Gonzalez over there,
Like I gotta make him respect that I could throw
the flat here, because otherwise he's just gonna fall off

(26:11):
the flat and fall underneath the deeper out and kind
of provide that help over the top because he's staring.
I'm staring at the receiver down the field, and I'm
not moving him with my eyes. Like those are things
that you hope that he just logs in the memory
bank and now the next time he sees that look
and the next time he tries to make that throw,
he makes it a little bit differently and you don't
have Christian Gonzalez.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Well, it'll be interesting, I think as an exercise, maybe
we go back and look at his interceptions last year
and see what happened on these plays and then see
like if similar things happen in practice this year, Like
did he learn from that?

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Yeah, I would say, like the one that today that
was tipped over the middle, like that was that one
was a lot of what last year was where tip
balls or like you know, guys going off receivers hands
and going to to defenders and like things like that.
And you know, you when you hit a receiver in
the hands, you want the receiver to catch the ball.
But that doesn't always mean that it was a great throw.

(27:08):
You know, it could have been a little bit behind him,
it could have been a little bit too high. You know,
things like that that make a make differences when it's
so fast and it happened so quickly at this level.
So I would say a lot of them were that,
And if you can just kind of cut down on
those ones and you just live with sort of the
gunslinger ones, which I think are always going to be there.
That's just his playing styles that he's always going to

(27:30):
have some gunslinger turnovers.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Phil's in Coventry. What's up, Phil?

Speaker 8 (27:35):
Hey, guys, how are we doing today?

Speaker 3 (27:37):
Okay?

Speaker 8 (27:41):
I got a couple of questions kind of off the
beating path about the referee cruise and but does the
NFL great them? And do we know which.

Speaker 10 (27:54):
Cruise will be on what games at a time, like
not that we.

Speaker 6 (27:57):
Got the schedule not that far.

Speaker 11 (28:00):
And the other thing is do you guys have like
a favorite crew.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Well, they do grade them for sure, and in fact,
you get your playoff assignment based on your regular season grade,
so there is a reward for having good grades. The
problem is they get great as crew and as individuals.
But then what did they stop it? Because what they
would do in the playoffs is they'd break up the

(28:25):
crews and they just use the individuals and then team
them up with people they haven't been working with throughout
the season.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
I don't think they should do that. Yeah, they would
form all star crews, Yeah, yeah, they do.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
I think they should grade the crew and keep them
as a crew because you know, you work together all season,
don't you want that? So but I think, you know,
they want to reward individuals and and so that's how
they do it.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
But they do.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
In fact, I don't have a favorite crew, you know.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
I would also say, you know, another big problem is
for the league is that there's so much money in TV,
and so these really good officials are retiring from officiating
and getting hired by Fox or ESPN or whatever to
be rules experts. And they make a lot more money
probably doing that, and they don't have to They have
no pressure and get screamed at guy. Right, they have

(29:12):
none of the fallback or you know, being an official,
but they do great crews. You know that. You do
hear a lot about this crew. You know, throws a
lot more flags in the average, or there's a lot
more holding calls when it's this referee group. And I
do think the teams talk about that kind of stuff.
And during the week.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
I know Belichick used to school his team because the
other question was, you know how far in advance do
you know the creuse? You certainly know the week of
what crew you're going to have for the game. So
coaches do, like Belichick's, you know, school.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Up their team.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
You know this this crew is known for holding, like
Evan said, or this crew lets you play and test
them until it proves it otherwise, you know, play that
way until it proves otherwise in the game. What was
the crew this year? They would always have I think
the Thursday night game or one of them, and they
had they were known for the most penalties, and every week,

(30:06):
sure enough it was a flag fest.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
I forget which crew it was. Yeah, it's just not hockey.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Lely is.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
I know his son Sean, I don't think it was.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
He does, but it was another guy that, Oh I
don't have a favorite, Yeah, Craig Rollstad.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
I'm trying to think of random rep names. All of
the names that I can come up all the top
of my head are now all in TV. That's my
Jean's territor and like all those guys. But yeah, I
can believe there you go. That sounds who's Terry McAuley,
who's he's a rules expert? Now saying.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Dave's in Florida? What's up David?

Speaker 11 (30:48):
Hey, guys are going? So I had I had two things.
The first thing, I just want to touch on Jalen
Polk a little bit. I'm not sure why people are
so like confident that he's gonna be a roster lock
this year because I personally feel like a chain Polk.

Speaker 7 (31:07):
Okay, because I personally feel like we anything that he
that Polk excels, that we have another guy on the
roster who does it better, and.

Speaker 11 (31:18):
I feel like he's a little bit redundant. I guess
just because he's the second round pick. I don't feel
like that should earn him a roster spot, especially considering
a lot of the the graphs that you see are
are actually expanded just to show how bad he was
last year. I'm just not too confident.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Yeah, I had one more thing, excuse.

Speaker 11 (31:39):
That this was just about Drake May. I was just wondering.
I know it's only the first oka or second oka,
but some of these things do matter. And at what
point do you get concerned or at what point do
you consider, well that that was just the first day. Yeah,
I'll take it off.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Okay, thanks to get into Yeah, get into the training camp.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
I mean this is a teaching camp, I would say,
So you got to give him a little bit of
room to grow.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
I understand his feelings on Polk. I would disagree a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
I do think that he offers a little bit more
than some of the other guys in terms of physicality,
in terms of strong hands. But but I don't think
he's going to be gifted the roster spot. I think
he's gonna have to earn it. But I do think
that there's enough of a gap in his skill set
that he can contribute and can be a unique player
within this wide receiver room. I still really like him.
I mean, you know, he was kind of still limited.

(32:31):
I think ye appeared on the I think at elbow.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
Or is it shoulder surgery? Shoulder surgery this offseason, So
he's still a little bit limited. But I haven't given
up hope.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
I mean, I would say if it was the same
regime from last year, I'd say he'd be more of
a lock, right because but since it wasn't their pick
or very Rabel's pick, you.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Know, they don't know anything.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
They don't own them, they don't you know, they don't
you know. But he still is a second round pick,
and Elliott second yeah, and Elliott Wolf is still here. Yeah,
So I think he's going to get the benefit of
the doubt until he you know.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
I mean, we all watched him be really productive last
year in camp, and I know that didn't count for anything,
and it was a slow burn once he you know,
didn't get his back of his feet down and then
for that touchdown, it seemed from that point things DeVault graveled.
But I'm really excited to see him. What does it
look like in camp this year? Does he come out
and have another really productive camp. If that's the case,
then I think that there's something there. You got to continue,

(33:25):
But you're not wrong if he if he looks in
camp this year, like he looked in the regular season
last year, we didn't really know he was going.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
The route seemed choppy, just nothing was smooth.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah, then I go back to what Elliott Will said.
I think it was at the after of the season
where they were they hoped for a little bit more development,
and he was talking about the coaches and probably that
wide receiver rule. Sure, you know, so I think that
they're expecting guys like Pope will get better coaching this

(33:57):
year and at least better direction because that room was
a mess last year.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
He really was, But he's not a lock. Like, I
don't think anybody is putting him down as a lock
because he's what he did last year. He's going to
have to prove that he's worthy of making the roster.
I don't think we're we're gifting away any roster spots
to anybody really, right, you know, the guys drafted this year,
you know, obviously they're not cutting Christian Gonzales like you know,

(34:21):
but like, I don't think that guys like Jalen Polk
or Javon Baker or even Kendrick Bourne are locks. I
mean i'd say that they have, you know, Polk and
bourn have good chances to make the team, but I
wouldn't say that their locks.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
Yeah, it was like last year when we went into
it and it was like Taekwon Thort. I mean it
was a similar felt like a similar logjam at wide
receiver and things have a way of working.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
They should do Ronaldo's in Fall River. Hey Ronaldo, Hey,
how's go guys?

Speaker 3 (34:48):
Good?

Speaker 6 (34:49):
But I just have to questions.

Speaker 12 (34:50):
Do you think we should have drafted another quarterback like
in the seventh round to increase the quarterback room competition?
And you blame Drake me and say you're from last
season on your on Mayo for his supporting cast like
offensive line and wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
Thank you, Okay, thanks. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
I I think they brought in Josh Dobbs and they've
got the other young guy.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know where you're looking for competition. Yeah,
I don't.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
I don't necessarily hate it, Like I would have been
fine with with spending a late round drop pick on
a guy Woldridge.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Seems fine out there.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
You gets some opportunity reps, but there's just not a
lot of competition, Like you just want Drake to learn
the offense.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
You also got to remember that everything's new.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
So rather than focusing on let's have competition, how about
let's focus on developing Drake May and and this offense.
Because McDaniels is here, he's it's it's all new, So
let's just get the guys here.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Let's get Drake May going.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
I'm not We'll worry about competition next year when the
offense has been settled and we've got a year under
then we then we can light a fire on the
Drake May if we need to do that.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
That's sort of how I feel about it. It's like,
right now, like what's the point of the competition, right, Yeah,
he's not. He's the third overall pick in his second season,
so he's it's his job to lose. So if you
bringing a guy a competition, all that's doing is creating
friction in the locker room, like and in the quarterback
room specifically. So I think that's a big reason why

(36:21):
Joe Milton's not here is because of all that. So
you look at.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Well and plus because the time they need to spend
with Drake this year, it'd be an unfair competition. Yeah, yeah,
you're not going to be given this guy equal snaps.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
You know, hopefully we never get to this point. But
right you're four, you're five, you know, if he's still
not fully getting it, like, that's when you start to
look at you know, should we draft a quarterback here
and maybe put somebody into this room that has some
upside that we think could be a starter down the line.
But now, I mean, you're it's Drake May's show. You know,

(36:53):
it's up to him.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
I mean, you know, and if people are worried that
on this show, we're going to, like you know, in
week four say oh, you know, coddle Drake May and
not call like we see it. Don't worry about that.
I mean, if he has a bad game, we're going
to say it. If if a pick is his fault,
we'll say it. But if if a pick is because
of receivers rounding out his routes or you know or whatever.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
We'll say that too. So we'll try to be fair
from what we can tell, you know, but some of
it is obvious.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
I mean it it's but this is the big thing
for him. This is it cutting down on turnovers. And
that's why, as much as we can say today didn't
mean anything. The one thing you need out of Drake
May this year to cut out of the turnovers. It's
not great to just have four. And you know that's
the talking point. Unfortunately, that's what we got to talk about.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
I mean, no, you never, like I said, you never
wanted the quarterback to throw four picks. Like, no matter
what practice is, whether it's August or it's it's May,
you never want to go out there. And the one
practice we get to watch and he throws picks, you know,
four out of ten reps, he's throwing picks Like you
don't want to see that.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
I mean, if Trevion Henderson was out here dropping the
ball or you know, that wouldn't be good either.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
You know, you just can't do that. Yeah, just the
way I saw, most of the interceptions were him thinking
through things a little bit too slow, right, and just
kind of trying to grasp this whole offense, in this
whole system. So that's why I'm not, by any means
panicked about it yet because it's day two, Like he
hasn't been in this offense for very long. But I

(38:17):
had some small sea concerns about it to begin with,
before we even got here about Daniels and all this
so it's not that it means nothing. You know, it's notable. Yeah,
I mean last year happened like you can't erase it.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
So I know that. You know, the term blank slate
gets used with a lot of people, including returning players,
but what they did last year matters. So I would
be surprised if Mike Rabel and his staff haven't looked
at every piece of tape from the players that were
here last year and how they performed to see, Okay,
what's going to carry over?

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Good and bad?

Speaker 2 (38:53):
You know, what's the good stuff that we hope continues
and what's the bad stuff we want to eliminate. Yeah,
get to know every one of these players from their
tape in the pros.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
Yeah, and that'll be the position group coaches that should
know all their guys inside and out.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
And I mean last year, you know, Alex van Pelt
got roundly criticized for not knowing that Marcus Jones playing
on offense. I would hope that they will know who
has who's who's done what on this team. Yeah, you know,
so all right, some reaction from Forge and Foxborough, some

(39:28):
emails coming in podcast at pages dot com. Tolerant Okac
loved the first episode, Mike Rabel has me ready to
run through a wall. But I was curious how much
the budget went to the twelve K camera you used
for interviews. I didn't need to see everyone's individual pores
and hair follows. I do notice that with four K
two good, like, even on my TV at home, you

(39:51):
can see everything. Man Like, makeup has become even more important.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
I think.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Anthony and Seattle watched it on Friday and again on Saturday.
I didn't plan to watch it twice, but man, it
was good. I was already excited when we hired Vrabel,
but now I feel like I wasn't excited enough. Side note,
our washing machine broke, so my wife and I went
shopping first Alliance store.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
I walked in and what did you see?

Speaker 2 (40:18):
You guessed it, speed queen. I burst out laughing immediately
and knew I had to tell you guys. I understand
now why people have been calling and emailing in to
tell you things like this, because PFW slash PU is
like a little community, and you'll be just going through
life and something from the show will come up and
you'll think, I got to tell the PU friends about this.

(40:38):
That's the idea you get it, Anthony, I love it.
That's why we do what we do. That's why we
do the newsletter, so we create this community.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
So did he buy the Speed Queen on Red Zone.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
Chat in Atlanta? Bravo, The best Pats documentary since the
last three games, Glory. Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks for creating it. Now a question, how many of
the eleven draft picks do you see being immediate impact players?
I say at least six, which is an outstanding draft
in my opinion. Campbell, Henderson, Williams, Swinson, Barrels Ashby.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
Well, no offense. But if we're gonna give the kicker
and long snapper, I agree, they'll be contributors.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
I would hope, so, but like, what if they're not,
that's a waste.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
So like, yeah, but they only have one long snapper
on the roster currently, so Ashby's definitely gonna a right play.
But I hear what he's saying. I think I look
those top three guys, and we saw Trevon Henderson. We
didn't get to see him at Rookie Minni Caamp. He
wasn't out there, so this was the first time and
you see just explosive, you know, compact build like I

(41:49):
wouldn't say he's he's not Derrick Henry, right, he's not
a massive player, but he's compact. Like you can see
like how he's uh, he's got a sturdy frame to him.
He's got good, good speed and you can tell all that.
So I was excited about what I saw from him
and Kyle Williams, like these are the types of camps
where those two guys should should shine. You know, this
is a speed camp, like this is all about passing

(42:11):
and space and you know guys that are fast and
have good quickness and all that kind of stuff. So
you see Kyle Williams flash, You see eft and Chisholm
flash just because he can get open right, he's quick
and agile. So I thought Travon Henderson looked the part.
I was excited about what I saw.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
You know, going back to forging Fox Sport, it's interesting
because one of Paul's guys yesterday was saying, you know,
you know in the documentary you saw that they could
have got a lot of picks if they had chosen
to trade down when it was Henderson's pick. But you know,
they they they you know, they chose to take him,
And you know, I don't know about that. How many
years have we criticized them for not sticking to take

(42:49):
the guy, and so finally they do that when they
had a decent, you know, trade on the table and
they picked Henderson.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
That's a hopefully that's a good thing. The more you
hear about Henderson and what people around the league thought
of Henderson, the more excited you get about him as
a player. I mean, this is a not only an
explosive player, you know, big play type of running back,
but also a really complete running back coming out of college.
You know, can catch passes, can pass protect, can run

(43:21):
like he can do it all. And a lot of
people thought that he was the second best running back
in the class behind Genty and really were extremely high
on him. So I'm with you, Fred, I'm glad that
they just stood there and took Henderson. I think, you know,
they needed that kind of dynamic playmaking ability.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
Christian Chris with a T I A N right, sin,
echoing the love and appreciation Forge and Fox was receiving.
Really enjoyed at the draft room. We got our guy
stuff in particular was good. Look forward to more of
behind the scenes stuff. It's been a long time since
they felt this level of excitement and anxious anticipation in

(43:58):
such a positive way as we headed into a new season.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
I feel that just being out there, it's like a
little taste of them training can I think I think
they feel it too. I mean, we talked to Morgan
Moses about that a little bit, and he's like, yeah,
we We've actually had multiple times where Rabels had to
been like, by pull us back in because we're going
too hard for this time of year, because everybody's so
anxious and so excited about, you know, this team and

(44:21):
what they've put together. But the one thing from from
Fortune Foxborough from the draft from that I thought was
really cool was I think it was Ryan Cowden who
said to Elliott or maybe it was Rabel, you know,
well do we go running back and then receiver or
did we go receiver then running back? And I just
couldn't help but laugh because like, how many times did
we have those coms? It's like, you know, we're doing

(44:42):
our like mock drafts right and stuff like that, because
it's exactly the same. But like that's it's was really
cool to see. Okay, yeah, like that's that's how they're
thinking too, is like do we like you know, how
if we wait on the receiver, are we going to
get our guy or are we not? You know? And
it ended up being Kyle Williams and Henderson, which I
think is what they were kind of open for.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
So David Maine. When Mayo was fired at the end
of the season, initially I was relieved. However, my second
reaction was, damn no Hard Knocks this year. But Forge
and Foxboro was even better than Hard Knocks. Great work
by all involved. Two questions, how many episodes are you doing?
We're definitely going to do a second episode. It'll be

(45:24):
coming out. I don't want to give out when yet,
but they'll definitely be at least another episode, and we
hope more. As long as Mike Rabel and staff allow
us access, we'll keep pumping out the content.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
So you know, hopefully we're doing it right.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
Up to you.

Speaker 3 (45:41):
I mean, hopefully we're doing one.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
Behind the scenes of joint practices with the commanders here
and going to Minnesota. Yeah, you know, the little nuggets
there they've abel revealed, but that to me is the
best stuff behind the scenes of like this is all
teaching and slow paced in the off season, which I like.
I think doing this job as I have now you
go from that on season mode in season mode too.

Speaker 3 (46:03):
Then all right, and I get to.

Speaker 4 (46:04):
Watch some prospects and next week we get to watch
an OT practice and it's a little slower. But once
the training camp starts and things start happening, injuries and competition,
and you know, that's when it gets really serious. I
think those episodes, if we're able to to them.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
Will be amazing.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
Jeff and Canada really enjoyed it. He says, I'd like
to get it on record early that we have no
clue if Drake May is a franchise quarterback yet it's
still completely undetermined. However, the media team and most fans
have declared it, and I worry that is undue pressure.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
I think that's unfair. I do. I don't think a
lot of people, maybe fans, but fans are allowed to
be excited, and that's that's what fandom's all about. You're
defending your guy or excited about your guy. I don't
feel like on this show we've we've crowned him yet
as the franchise quarterback.

Speaker 2 (46:53):
I don't think so either, But remember he was the
third overall pick.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
Yeah, like he'd better be yeah right, it's gonna be
disappointing if he's Yeah, I mean yes, is that pressure.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
It absolutely is, and it's pressure that he's gonna have
to bear. But we're all counting on him to be
the franchise quarterback. This isn't a fifth round pick that
we're hoping. You know, this was the third overall pick
and many people thought he was you know, coming out,
was as good as Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 4 (47:23):
So I mean, well, I mean even look at like
I just for me, I want to see it happen
and not like stuff it into a box and make
like a moment from last season that wasn't all that
great as like, well, that's when I knew, like, you
don't you want to let Drake earn that moment and
Paul let's see abou Paul is in there as he
could talk about bloods soe. But I'm just remembering, you know,
him going toe to toe with the Vikings at the

(47:44):
end of his second season, opening against Miami in his
third season where you know, they didn't even make the
playoffs at you know, so there was like a there
was It wasn't just he made that big game and
now he's there and now he's awesome and that you know,
it's it's it's a bumpy roll.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
I'll tell you what's going to put the most pressure
on Drake May this year. It's Jade and Daniels. It's
what he did coming out his first year to absolutely
flip the Commander's season from one to another, from being
where we were to then playoff teams. You know, that's
how people, well the Commanders did it.

Speaker 4 (48:17):
Yeah, and a lot of people look at the Patriots
off season this season and compare it to similar things
that the Commanders did last year.

Speaker 3 (48:23):
Yeah, you're also going to get Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 4 (48:25):
Right here in the building in the second week of August,
so you know that'll that'll spur some talk as well.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
But the blood Cell, like bringing up bloodste I think
is good because you fan that are that are on
the younger side of things, Like we know Tom Brady
and no one's ever going to be Tom Brady again, right,
like we all can know expectations easily say that, and
just no one's gonna be as good as him ever,
And so like the one quarterback that you know, I

(48:50):
really know as like the starting quarterback of the Patriots
is Brady. But the more realistic path for Drake May,
in terms of ceiling and stuff like that, is probably
more closer to Blood sell right, who was a good
quarterback but wasn't the greatest quarterback of all time. And
I think that somewhere in those expectations we have to
find a middle ground. Like Drake May could be a

(49:11):
really good quarterback for you know, five to ten years,
like Drew Bledsoe was, but that doesn't make him, you
know that he's not gonna be Tom Brady, right, So
that's what I'm hoping for. Can he you know, franchise
quarterbacks thrown around a lot? Like, I just want him
to be the starting quarterback for the Patriots for a
long time and have us not question who the quarterback is.
Does that mean he's a franchise quarterback or an elite quarterback?

(49:33):
I don't know, but I think there's a lot of
guys that are like that. Like I would say, you know,
Justin Herbert is a franchise quarterback. The Chargers haven't won
anything yet, r right, Yeah, you know, like Trevor Lawrence,
Fred's guy I think is a really good quarterback. They
haven't won anything, right, you know, So that that's how
the career goes for a lot of dudes that can
play that are really good. You know, Josh Allen's a

(49:55):
really good he still hasn't won anything, so like it
might not be Yeah, I mean, it's just all that.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
But I think I think after I don't know how
many how many years has Alan been in the leaf
six years now, yeah, so I think after six years,
if we have done what the Bills have done, we'd
be like, Okay, we did get our guy.

Speaker 3 (50:11):
Yeah, we just have to know we got to get
over the hump, right, the right, But that's the but
that's like the ceiling. Like that's like the that's it
working out as much as it possibly could. Like Josh
Allen's the MVP of the league, right, so like that
that's that's the ceiling. And he still hasn't won a
super Bowl. So like you know, Lamar Jackson still hasn't
won a Super Bowl. So I just think that there's

(50:31):
you know, we have to also adjust our expectations of
what Drake may being the franchise quarterback really is going
to look like I you know, I hear what you're saying.
I love. I love having some community the quarterback be great.
I'd also listen some community with the scheme.

Speaker 4 (50:44):
Now here we are in whatever year whatever, since Josh left,
and it's I'm just I'm getting I'm getting tired of
blaming it on the scheme.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
He's learning the scheme.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
How's the scheme different? All the questions are about the
scheme the scheme. Like today I was ready to just
ask and be like, look, you've been in the NFL
a long time, played here a bunch of difference.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
Does it matter? Does it really matter?

Speaker 4 (51:03):
Like I know it's hard, you got to learn it
and all that, but like we put the whole world
on like the scheme change, and I just I wonder
in their heart of heart, like I mean, I played
hockey completely different, but just you know, like we played Zonerman,
it didn't really matter, you know. So I know those
sports aren't different, and those are completely Probably not a
great metaphor to make, but still it's like, as a player,
you're like, you guys spend so much time talking about this,

(51:23):
and it's like, yeah, we have to learn it.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
But no, I know it sounds simple, but if you've
got a good offensive line, the scheme becomes easy, right, you.

Speaker 3 (51:30):
Can execute it.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
Because you can execute it, you know, if you can't
execute the scheme, it doesn't matter what the scheme is.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
I'm just worried about the pressure on the quarterback in
this particular offense, and at what point do maybe they
take a little bit off of his plate and maybe
they put it, you know, on Bradberry or you know,
a veteran center in the league that started a lot
of games or something like that. Because again, it's one day,
but this is what I was a little bit concerned

(51:57):
about that it would look like early on that there
would be what looked like, you know, Pop Douglas said
after practice. The first one of the first picks he
threw to Gonzalez, the first one, you know, is a
they rotated the coverage. They rolled the coverage, and so
Gonzales started deep and then he rotated into the flat
and you know, Drake didn't see him coming down in

(52:17):
the flat and Gonzalez jumped the route. Like those types
of things to me is just like mental like you're
looking through every there's ya. I gotta set the mic
point and I got to move the protection, and now
I got to make sure this guy's in the right
place and then it's all of the maestro stuff at
the line of scrimmage. And I don't know if that's him, Like,
I don't know yet if Drake May is that kind
of quarterback, Like he might be more of like, let's

(52:39):
just snap the ball and I'm just gonna play right
because he's got he's so physically talented that that might
be more of what he's how he's programmed and how
he's you know, wired, is just to just go out
there and play ball, whereas this scheme can be very
very intricate, and if I had anything to be like,
come away from this practice, it's not that he's through

(53:00):
four picks or anything like that. It's like, how are
we going to evolve from that the McDaniel's Brady offense
to now it's with Drake May and it's a different
kind of quarterback, Like he's a different type of player
playing in his string. How are they going to find
that happy media.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
Well, it's not gonna be easy, But you know what
is easy? I do bud Light. It's easy to drink,
easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of
the New England Patriots. And then one more and we'll
take a break dreaming of next season.

Speaker 3 (53:29):

and how he's been adapting to, you know, learning inuitial Well.

Speaker 10 (56:01):
I think everybody's worked extremely hard, including Drake, uh, to
to pick up what we want to do offensively and defensively,
and now that has to start to translate onto the
practice field in a spring setting without pads, and you know,
I think that it's Uh, we're off to a good start.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
I think we had a positive day.

Speaker 10 (56:18):
We're able to mix some speed stuff in and some
competitive stuff to a point, Uh, kept guys off the ground,
got a bunch of looks and bunch of reps. So
I think we're off to a good start, and you know,
Drake's a part.

Speaker 3 (56:30):
Of that as part of the stage.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
Mike, what are the things that you look for from
your players to get better as they go about this
stage of the process.

Speaker 10 (56:38):
Yeah, I think that that's probably an interesting question just
to dynamic through the spring. Is you know the offensive line.
I think you can maybe evaluate some pass protection or
somewhat footwork, but it's hard to evaluate the run game.
Defensive line, it's a difficult time of year for them.
You know, they're they're they're wired a certain way and

(56:58):
they want to do things that affect a quarterback and
create a new line of scrimmage and.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
You have to pull them back to a sense.

Speaker 10 (57:05):
This is a this is a passing camp, this is
a non contact camp and time of year. But I
think the receivers and the dbs can certainly look to
to mirror and shadow and react and you know, still
go make plays on the football and try to stay up.
It's hard to you know, maybe the running backs you
can evaluate are they picking up the right person and
protection not necessarily sure if they're going to be able.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
To block them, but are they getting the right guy? Uh?

Speaker 10 (57:29):
Quarterbacks, operation, the urgency in which we practice are things
that are important. Our tempo, the way that we finish plays,
our effort, and you continue to build the identity. Are
we taking care of the football when we're when we're
running with it in the open field?

Speaker 1 (57:44):
Things like that.

Speaker 10 (57:45):
When you mentioned not wanting to take guys to the ground,
how do you balance It's not that I would love
to take guys.

Speaker 1 (57:51):
Uh, That's okay.

Speaker 10 (57:54):
I'm joking, but these are the rules that everybody's just
come to live by in the National Football League, and
that's that's great. It's just explain it to the players
what it is that we have to do and what
we have to try to get accomplished.

Speaker 1 (58:06):
So go ahead and finish your question.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
But how do you accomplish the physicality that you want
at this stage?

Speaker 10 (58:10):
I'll still making sure that I don't think that you can.
I don't I think that you could focus on pad level.
You can focus on hand placement, but that physicality is
not something that's going to be identified over the course
of the next four weeks.

Speaker 15 (58:25):
With the understanding that this is obviously a non contact camping,
we're talking about not being able to get a good
sense of where maybe running backs are from a physical standpoint,
and you just talked about where maybe Rmandri is at
this stage. I know he's going through a personal thing,
but maybe the overall value that he has did this franchise.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
We're extremely excited to.

Speaker 10 (58:42):
Have him with us, have been in constant communication with
him and obviously our thoughts and prayers or with him
and his family as they heal and they grieve, and
you don't want to be a part of that to
help him and get to know him. And I'd met
him early on and then he went back and now
those conversations have just been over the telephone. So when

(59:06):
you start to evaluate just this season and you watch
the effort and that he played with when he didn't
have the football, he played extremely fast.

Speaker 1 (59:14):
Without the football.

Speaker 10 (59:15):
His ability to step up and protect is taking care
of a teammate, is protecting the guy with the ball.
He did that on numerous occasions. He always saw him
downfield when he didn't.

Speaker 1 (59:24):
Have the ball. You know.

Speaker 10 (59:26):
So he's going to be a large part of, you know,
what we do, and it'll just have to you know,
determine where he's at when when he's back here.

Speaker 4 (59:36):
What constitutes a good day for you at OTA is
like what would make you happy at the end of
them today.

Speaker 10 (59:42):
You know, again, I'm going to set myself up from
failure because you're going to look and read off every single.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
One I say here, that that we're in and.

Speaker 10 (59:49):
Out of the huddle, that there's clean substitution, that there's communication.
You hear the defense making checks when somebody on the
offense moves or motions. There there's coordination and that the
offense is moving with urgency and at the play clock
isn't sitting at zero for four seconds, and all the
operational things, and then obviously there's got to be a
level of execution when we're in the speed and then

(01:00:10):
when we get to the jog through, can we practice
at a tempo that's less than one hundred percent and
still get something out of it? Mike, what does the
competition truly start from traditional standpoint for guys trying to respots.

Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Well, I think that it already has. I hope that
it already has their life's of competition.

Speaker 10 (01:00:27):
Everything we do every day, what we're trying to improve,
and we're trying to do better than the next person.
But whether that's a competitiveness to know what to do,
to be able to play more than one position, to
go extra reps when somebody's down, to take advantage of
opportunities of young guys, you know, popping in their third group.

(01:00:49):
You know, they do a nice job, then they get elevated,
they get some reps with the twos and see how
they do with those opportunities. So I think that there's
always a level of competition to what we do. It
just may not be as physical as what it would
be in training camp.

Speaker 15 (01:01:03):
Like related to that question, how much evaluation is going
on for the coaching staff right now versus the installation
of the teaching that obviously you're doing the spring.

Speaker 10 (01:01:11):
Well, there's certain things you have to maybe change the
way that you evaluate. You know, do they know their assignment,
can they adjust? Do they make you know, the same
mistake over and over? Then there's a level of you know,
physical ability that we have to be able to evaluate.
So I would say that there's still an evaluation even

(01:01:31):
though we don't have pads on.

Speaker 5 (01:01:33):
There's been a lot of talk about the culture you're
building and.

Speaker 14 (01:01:35):
All that just from early days of the team kind
of all being together. What are you noticing just from
them all coming together.

Speaker 10 (01:01:42):
I think there's an excitement, there's an energy. I think
there's a willingness of players that walk in and want
to improve and want to get to know the new
players and the ones that they're familiar with from last
year and the coaches and everything else. So we're just
constantly trying to build that each and every day.

Speaker 7 (01:01:56):
And we know that.

Speaker 14 (01:01:57):
Stefan Diggs has been you know, dealing with last year's
in anyone else that we shouldn't expect to see based
on coming.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Back and sending from last year.

Speaker 10 (01:02:04):
There'll be a group of guys that will be modified
today or won't be doing stuff. So, I mean, it's
a long list. I'm not going to go through it,
but there'll be a few guys. They'll be doing some
individual they'll be doing some return to play, may do
some jog through stuff at the end.

Speaker 16 (01:02:20):
Like I know that, Like, how would you describe the
jump for running back and pass protection from the college
game to the NFL helpport? And are these practices for
Trayveon in particular as young beck, But.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
These are mental reps.

Speaker 10 (01:02:34):
These are seeing things that speed until you know it's
full speed to contact is really what we say. So
we want the blitzer to go, you know, as fast
as he would and disguise the way he would and
try to time it up the way that he would,
and then once he gets to the player that's blocking him,
that that we're going to ask them to stop and
then you know, be ready to go and sprint out
of the stack and get his you know, finish his

(01:02:56):
play that way. So they're they're good because there's just
there's moving parts, there's other bodies.

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
It's not just a walk through pace.

Speaker 10 (01:03:04):
So I think the tempo is going to allow them
to identify the right person to protect and to block,
and then we'll see you in training camp. Physically they'll
be able to do it, which by all counts, I
think that they will.

Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
Mike, I know fans get excited about it when the
NFL schedule comes out.

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
How do you look at that from as a head coach?

Speaker 10 (01:03:26):
I just make sure that we've got seventeen games, nine
of them are at home this year and eight of
them are on the road, and then we go from there.
We're so far from looking at opponents right now at
this point in the game. We're just really trying to
focus on ourselves, which you know, individual improvement, continue to
build the identity that we try to talk about, and
that's where my focus is today.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
Finalized the joy practices with the Commanders and Bikings, yep.

Speaker 10 (01:03:51):
I think that the for sure that the Washington Commanders
will come here and then they'll play us, and then
we are excited to go to Minnesota. It's a good
setup that they have allows for great work. Kevin's got
a you know, the Vikings have an excellent football team
and have worked with them before, so excited to go
back up there. Do you see the young player need
to see the field consistently or first team grabs consistently

(01:04:14):
to become the effective leader in your love, I think
that any player that comes here with a great attitude,
that knows what to do UH and plays a style
and with the demeanor that we expect, that does things
the right way, that makes great decisions, what we'll have
an ability to lead uh someone or have some sort
of UH leadership qualities, whether that's with the third group,

(01:04:38):
with the.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Second group, or with the first group.

Speaker 10 (01:04:40):
But I don't think that a young player has to
be on a starting unit to be considered somewhat of
a leaders.

Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
At times then over analyzed lineups at this point the season,
that's fair philosophy.

Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
When it comes to the depth chart, is it better
ins and then young.

Speaker 10 (01:04:55):
Guys earn it or it's just kind of what we
put together and somebody's got to go with eleven.

Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
It's to be very fluid.

Speaker 10 (01:05:01):
You'll see that a lot of people are getting a
lot of different reps and a lot of different groupings,
and wide receivers will rotate out of there, and some
lineman will play a position and then we'll see if
they can move over and play another position.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
So again, you have a job to do. We have
a job to do.

Speaker 10 (01:05:17):
We're going to try to move guys around and put
eleven out there every play.

Speaker 15 (01:05:22):
No one will even told us a story about how
do you enjoy getting called out by you?

Speaker 10 (01:05:26):
That's first of all, that's not being called out by me.
That was just an encouragement. No, it was, uh, you know,
if you have the ability to do something, I think
you should try to maximize that ability. And I think
it sends a great message to the team where we're
going to need our best players to play good every
week for us to win. And that's just another example of,

(01:05:49):
you know, the leadership and when one guy I found
when one guy runs fast and another guys tend to
run fast, and then the next you know, the more
and more you you see, you got a bunch of
guys trying to push each other and compete.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
That's what we're trying to do with specifically, what are
you looking forcus, it's a very full room at the moment.
What are you looking for specifically with them?

Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
In these early days well as far.

Speaker 10 (01:06:09):
I think that when you say things like it's a
full room, I would say that thirty one other teams,
that's okay with thirty one other teams are going to
have eleven or twelve wide receivers at this point in time,
So everybody's room is full.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
There's eleven or twelve.

Speaker 10 (01:06:23):
I would say that the players that aren't available need
to make sure that they're doing everything they can to
stay up mentally and continue.

Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
To work hard to get back.

Speaker 10 (01:06:32):
The young players that are coming onto this roster have
to earn a role, and the ones that are returning
have a clean slate to go and compete, and whether
that's a carryover position from last.

Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Year or a new position.

Speaker 10 (01:06:45):
So we're very early on in the process, but we
need that group to compete and have a willingness to
go out there and help the quarterback through this spring process.

Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
Thank you, and now great moments in.

Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
History.

Speaker 17 (01:07:04):
I miss Gardis smell. That's one of the things that's
about twenty twelve. Way, Yeah, GARTI smells really good. Paul,
back me up on this.

Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
What are you a dog? He smells wonderful. There's around
sniffing people.

Speaker 17 (01:07:15):
Thank you, Paul.

Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
Sound like a fresh summer day tomorrow show opening unfolding
right before our eyes.

Speaker 17 (01:07:22):
He smells great. I miss it.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Okay, it is what it is. You know what was
his cologne of choice? You know you ever have?

Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
He smells so good.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
He's it's like product.

Speaker 17 (01:07:35):
He's just like if I told you, I'd have to
kill you because everyone knows how good he smells. I
don't miss Gardi as much as I missed the smell of.

Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
Oh did Yeah? We could bottle that g That's another
great moment from.

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered Podcasts at Patriots
dot com is the way to email us eight five
five Pats five hundred is the way to call us
Dan and Virginia and Michigan emails. He says, I'm not
too worried about May having some issues on the second
day of OTAs. Didn't the defense always have an edge
early in the off season even when Brady was here?
Also speaking of Mike Giardi, just according to Dan, he's

(01:08:15):
apparently running a school for sports journalism.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
Do you know this Trump's school?

Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Chris Catillo does it. The Red Sox be writer, he
does one so is it online thing that you signed
up a seminar. It's like a webinar and it's it's
pretty cool. I mean I didn't have to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
Okay here, but do you know if his course includes
the correct pronunciation of a slip disc and how to
be the best smelling man in England sports journalism, at
least according to Megan O'Brien, which we just heard.

Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
You know, Brian had some takes. I can't play that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
But so he's running a school for journalists.

Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
That's a Paul didn't signed me up for it.

Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
Yeah, so is it actually accredited? Do you get No,
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
I don't know. Isn't like an Adobe class now, I
don't know. Maybe it's part of just the University of
Gardi he's starting in college. But yeah, I think Chris
does one, like I said, And I know that people
he sometimes has guests like speakers, you know that are
people that are currently working on beats and stuff like that.
And I think people get a lot out of it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
Oh, I'm gonna have to make fun of him.

Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
And I see him Jardi University.

Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
Guy to make some money.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Maybe they can have graduation on the field here like
Bridgewater State, right, you.

Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Know right, Bill wasn't here last week for that was he.

Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
No, But I was wondering if she was the commencement speaker,
but I guess not. Josh wrights In. Overall, the production
of Forge and Foxborough was awesome, really loved it. That said,
the draft room scenes weren't quite what I expected. It
came across like the entire operation flowed strictly through Rabel,
Wolf and Cowden. I was surprised at how little process

(01:10:01):
or structure was shown behind the decisions. I figured to
be more automation or a system driven strategy involved, rather
than Elliott just going bee boop. I like this trade offer.

Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
I uh, well, I think that they are kind of
the guys making the decision. I understand the stuff he wants,
of breaking down the prospects and that kind of stuff.
But that to me was one of the interesting takeaways
that I thought maybe they'd talk on Paul shows about.
It's just the dynamic between Cowden and Wolf and Vrabel
and you see how they discuss certain ideas and picks,
and you know, you just you see how that relationship

(01:10:34):
between those three guys is developing.

Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
That was a really interesting part of it to me also,
that were like forty people in the room with laptops,
but none seemed actively involved. Cam Williams's only moment was basically,
oh this is an EP here's elliott. I think there
was room to show more of the decision making process
without revealing too much of how the sausage gets made,
just enough to give fans a sense of the complexity
behind the scenes.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Well, I mean, fair enough what he's saying, But all
that work has done before draft day. I mean, you know,
like they say, the Hayes in the barn once the
draft comes. And one thing you didn't see is the
boards around the room, because that's where some of the
detail is, where that you know, your board is stacked
and you can see, okay, who's left, how of those

(01:11:16):
people that are left?

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Who are the guys that you like? You know?

Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
So, yeah, we didn't get to see all of that
and the stuff leading up to the draft, where you know,
scouts are really you know, making the case for their guys,
which I'm sure must happen.

Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
Yeah, you know, I thought, I thought maybe a little
constructive criticism for the now Denver Broncos came Winnams, But
I thought like his phone cadence was off, like these
draft picks are dying to get the bat phone to
ring right, Like they all have the special phone and
they'd be like hello, and he'd be like hello, yeah, Hey,
how are you, Kyle?

Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
How are you? The guys are dying to know what
team's calling. I'm like, He's like, it's came Wins from
the Patriots.

Speaker 17 (01:11:58):
Like there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:11:59):
You gotta get right to it. You gotta be like,
cam it's the Patriots, we're taking you. Here's Ellie Wolf.
I get right well.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Elliott's first words to Will Campbell's what'd you have for dinner?

Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
I like, the kid is like about to combust. They're stress.
Was crying on stage, how are you? What's going on? Nothing? No,
we're just never drafted. You, by the way, ready to go?
Are you ready to go? Did you mention from today?
The Will Campbell and Morgan Moses, those two are and always.

Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
Just was just watching that when he told me that,
I said, I need a moment I need.

Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
Morgan Moses was holding court after practice with it started
just with him and Will Campbell and Will Campbell's like
you people came over. Yeah. Will Campbell's like in his
past set, Morgan Moses is acting like the pass rusher,
and Campbell's like, you know, talking true things. And then
Kate and Wallace came over and kan Wallace just standing
there watching Morgan Moses listening, and then Marcus Marcus Bryant

(01:13:01):
their seventh round pick at tackle, he starts to come
on and then all of them are kind of like
their tackles, you know, like he's throwing.

Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
He's feeding the mass with you know, two loaves of
bread and a fish.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
He's got this party in the red seat right, He's
like throwing his long arm and he's trying to teach
him and he's doing this and Trey Jacobs was over
there for a minute, and but him and Will Campbell
were out there for a solid ten to fifteen minutes
after practice, gone through a drill, you know, going through
the motions of you know, past protection and things like that.
But we talked to Morian Moses about it afterwards and

(01:13:36):
he's like, I know my role, like I you know
that that's a big part of why you know, I'm
still in the league and why I'm here.

Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
He's already paid for himself that that one session.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Yeah, no, I totally believe it we happened. Did we
happen to have any cameras?

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
Though?

Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
You know, I saw Cassidy she wasn't getting in.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
There, but she you think we had sound Maybe I
don't know. We got to get that out of sound we.

Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Saw we had. Adler was taking pictures of it. I
know that I didn't. I'm sure we have.

Speaker 4 (01:14:03):
Video of Cassidy shooting it, but I.

Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Okay, baby, all right. Well, I was so impressed with
Morgan when he came in here and said, oh, yeah,
well that's what that's why I am and you I know,
and then you know the potential.

Speaker 4 (01:14:19):
He is what needs to be said and has so
much experience and every word that that guy says.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
I just I was hanging yeah right, tell me more
and more than yeah be my dad. And he talked
about you know, he played with Trent Williams, he played
with Tyron Smith last year with the Jets. So he's like, look,
I've seen left tackles like I've seen it at the
highest levels.

Speaker 4 (01:14:42):
It is like your like to your excitement, like we've
been so desperate for tackles, and then to see like
an experienced NFL tackle gathering around the kids and be like,
here's how it's done, children.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Like I wouldn't. It's not Yoda because he's so big.

Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
So it's like it's like it's that type of wisdom,
that that sage wisdom.

Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Sandolph may do or do not, trim beard.

Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
There is no try Yeah, uh, teas in Virginia.

Speaker 3 (01:15:13):
What's up, tea?

Speaker 11 (01:15:16):
And I've got some real quick and then pick it off.

Speaker 9 (01:15:22):
I'm not sure if you touched on it yet, but what's.

Speaker 8 (01:15:24):
Your thoughts on we supposed to change the playoffs four minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
And do you think.

Speaker 3 (01:15:31):
I like it? Let's let's go. You know there's no receding.
Is that correct? How how would it go? I didn't. Yeah, yeah,
they received they would they would receive the second round,
I believe, but it wouldn't be the top four divisions.
So you still make the playoffs by winning your division,
but it would be seated by the records by Yeah,
I think that. I think that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
So there's no guarantee of a home playoff win if
you win your division.

Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
Yeah, yeah, I mean that's it's you want the best
teams to have the advantage, teams that earn in not
just because oh you happen to be in the AFC
South and you want this year and you were you know,
seven and ten or whatever.

Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
Yeah. Yeah, obviously the Lions in Minnesota last year. The
reason why this is happening, and I get it, I
mean I the one thing I would say is like,
it's still kind of cool that division football matters in
the NFL because all the other leagues, I mean, I
guess hockey it kind of matters again now like with
the the different like subconferences that they have. But like,

(01:16:27):
I don't want it to become basketball where like there's
no divisions, right Like I like it. So you like
the rivalry. I like the rivalries. I like that you
you know, you play everybody twice a year. I think
that is still good and has like value. And if
you're going to make the schedule more importantly, like if
the schedule is going to be structured this way, then
winning the division has to mean something like you can't

(01:16:47):
play everybody within your division twice a year, and then
it you're throwing out anything with the division, right Like,
if you're going to structure the schedule, otherwise you have
to go to like a rolling schedule where you pay everybody,
you know equal y or you rotate a lot of travel.

Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Yeah, but they you know, I guess that was brought
up the last owners being they tabled it. They're going
to hopefully vote on it this this one. They're also
going to vote on eliminating assisting another players pushes.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
The push up. It's going back the rule proposal would
go back to the way the rule was previously written
up until like two thousand and five. I think where
you can't you can't assist another player, can't push or
pull another player.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Right, And then there was one other There's a lot
of things, but there was one other one that was,
uh three things that were kind of notable.

Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
The other big one was the Olympics.

Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Yeah, allowing these guys to play in flat football in
the Olympic in twenty eight Can you indulge me for
a second? Sure, So I I understand the whole push
for flat football with the league. You know, it's a
good way to get kids that don't necessarily want to
play tackle get involved in in a game that involves

(01:18:08):
a football. But it is a false It's it's inaccurate
to say that by playing flag football you're learning football.
It's it's not football. It's a totally different game. Like
I said, the fact that you have a line of
scrimmage and a football, it's it's not football. And I

(01:18:29):
don't think the numbers suggest that there is like a
gateway from flag football to tackle football. And the league
needs to address the fact that participation in tackle football
is going down. Flag football is not the way to
do it. It's it's too show the benefits of tackle football.

Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
Like how it's helped young men.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
And you know, I do this coaches clinic every year,
and you know, they give awards to kids and you
know some of these kids, like you look at them,
they don't look like football players, but what they learned
from being on a football team is going to help
them in life.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
And football is.

Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
One you know, like I know, you'll stick up for hockey,
but the nature of a football team, with all the
varied positions and types of players that you need, sizes
and shapes and everything, there is a role for everybody
on a football team. And it's a hard sport, like
and you learn a lot from football, and I think

(01:19:28):
the league needs to start promoting that at the youth level,
Like you get this from playing tackle football.

Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
And I know the whole health thing.

Speaker 2 (01:19:37):
But tackle football is more safe than it ever has been,
you know, because of all the rules changes and helmets
and all that stuff. Start promoting what the good stuff
about tackle football instead of falling back to flag football.
That's not going to help participation in tackle football, and
that's desperately needed because the talent pool is dwindling and international.

(01:20:00):
You might help a little twenty years from now, it's
not gonna help ten years from now. We got to
get more kids playing tackle football, and flat football is
not the way to do it. That's just my soapbox
on the step you're stepping off right now.

Speaker 4 (01:20:14):
I feel like you're stepping up in defensive kids kind
of like me when I was a kid, the fat kids, right,
because there's always sports that you can run fast. You
want to play flag football, right, you're good, But like you,
I mean, that's what I love about football.

Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
That makes it unique.

Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
Like you said, there's all different body types required and
everyone can have it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
Most places, it's a no cut sport. In high school,
you come out, you're on the team. We'll find something
for you to do. We'll find something for you to do,
and you'll be part of this team. And if you
stick with it, you're gonna learn a lot. And you know,
some of these you know, these coaches, they're you know,
great people, and they're doing it after work. They're they're volunteering,

(01:20:54):
and you know, you know, I don't want to diminish
all the other sports, but there's just something more to football.
Planning of it, the coaching that's required, the different coaches
that you need, it's it's you know, it's I think
it's the best team sport ever created.

Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
Me too.

Speaker 4 (01:21:11):
I mean there's I mean, it's got everything. There's pace,
there's violence, there's you know, I can get it. Not
to get like philosophical, but it embodies the human experience.
And I mean, I think so many kids who play
high school football or really any sport, but I mean
specifically football because it is a little bit harder.

Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
Those lessons you learned from the challenges, it's so important.

Speaker 4 (01:21:31):
I mean, and being able to play through injuries and
to you know, I'm going through it now with my
kids and they're playing high school sports and you know,
learning about getting you know, not getting enough playing time
or you know, thinking that you should have something you don't,
and I mean, I think all those things are great
for sports, but there is something unique about football sure.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
And you know, listen, my kid wouldn't have gone to
college had it not been for lacrosse. But I remember
when he went out for Pop Warner, and I remember
those first couple of practices in the summer. He came
back and I don't know if I want to do this.
And I sat him down and I said, you don't
have to, but if you stick with this, you're going
to see You're going to see what it can do

(01:22:10):
for you. And he did, you know, and he did,
and he was glad he did. There's just a structure
to football that for a lot of kids, they need
that structure.

Speaker 3 (01:22:21):
And there's tens.

Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
Of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of young men,
young boys, that this sport has helped and the league
needs to do a better job getting that out there.
And whether it's creating a network of people that parents
can talk to when they're trying to decide to let
their kids play tackle football, you know, not just coaches,
but like former NFL alumni that live in your area

(01:22:44):
have a network of people that they can talk to,
you know, go to the schools, talk about the benefits
of football and we need to do a better job
in the NFL going on offense for football.

Speaker 4 (01:22:56):
I think you're I don't want a hard dose of
truth for the NFL, because I agree with you in
the fact that do we really think that flag is
going to become a feeder system for tacking.

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
It's not.

Speaker 4 (01:23:07):
Maybe for a couple of kids who can run and
play receiver and avoid getting hit for a couple of
years and then they get in and all right now,
but the rest of the.

Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
Game is entirely different.

Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
And I mean just experience my son, who, by the way,
have five touchdowns in flag football, but went into the
lacrosse and now it's like gets his bell wrong and
you realize there's a completely different world of flag football
and tackle football. I mean, there's just non contact sports
and contact sports in general, right, but there's no way
to simulate what real football is with.

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
No I do think it has helped, though, like the
passing game sophistication and.

Speaker 4 (01:23:43):
What is that like off field seven on seven camps
or is that specifically flag football.

Speaker 3 (01:23:47):
I think it's probably both. But I the receivers that
are coming into the league specifically, their level of skill
is so much higher. I think I mean, every single
year there were the talent pool at wide receiver is
just off the charts, and I think a lot of
that does have to do with the fact that they
are playing year round, even if it's not tackle football,

(01:24:09):
just learning you know how to catch, learning how to
run routes, learning you know how to in the open field,
you know how to avoid people in the open field.
Like I hear what you're saying in terms of it
not being the same, because it's not. But there we
have seen, you know, quarterbacks get better, receivers get better
as a result, like I.

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Because they're playing, like you said, they're doing it year right, you.

Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
Know that's the biggest thing. Yeah, but you know nowadays,
like the talent in the draft that wide receiver every
single year is just it's incredible. But keep it going,
like we can't find tackles anymore, you.

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Know, Like right, that is that part of it, you know,
and listen participations going down. That's a fact. So we
need to reverse that. We need to reverse it.

Speaker 4 (01:24:53):
I mean, I said, look, when I was in California,
lacrosse was eating into football too, Like Relifornia, that was
almost ten years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
Now that's good sport all right, let's get back to
your calls on the hot line. Eight five five pass
five hundred. Todd's in North Carolina.

Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
What's up, Todd?

Speaker 11 (01:25:09):
Not much, said Braskin.

Speaker 9 (01:25:11):
I've got one question, but before I ask it, i
just want to say forged in Boxborough, simply amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
Thank you, and your energy today is great.

Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Well listen our first day of OTA, so we're ready
to go.

Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
Plus not here rain On yeah, yeah, yeah, they were
okay here.

Speaker 9 (01:25:31):
This is a.

Speaker 6 (01:25:34):
Cattle show.

Speaker 9 (01:25:36):
And he says that the secret weapon on defense is
going to be white.

Speaker 11 (01:25:40):
Now, I want to know if you guys have a
favorite or a secret weapon for this upcoming year, and
if it's not white, who is it?

Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Thus, Okay, thanks, that's a good question. Key On White
involved today and you can see how what they kind
of have planned for him. I don't know if it's
my secret weapon, but I think my crush this year
is going to be Robertsplaine, for he.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
Took the woods out of my mouth some speed.

Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
At the I mean I just saw him run out
of the tunnel today and like we've seen him, we had.

Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Him on I know we didn't get him on the show.
We met him and talk to you.

Speaker 4 (01:26:11):
We need him though, But all of a sudden, the
helmet comes on, the blood, the shield, he just like
sprints onto the field faster than anyone I've ever seen.
I mean, he's just a high, high energy guy at
at my favorite position, linebacker, And now I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
That's positive energy. I know he's a secret weapon, but
I don't know if I would more call him an
X factor, Like if he, like if Keon White realizes
his potential and and evolves into another stud with Barmore
and Milton Williams on the defensive line, now you're really
got something watch out. But it could also go the
other way, and he could and he could just be

(01:26:46):
this for the rest, you know, a good not great
player for the rest of his career. So he looks
the part.

Speaker 4 (01:26:51):
I mean, if you stand him next to Barmore, Milton
Williams and you know Harold Landry and you know Chase
On those guys that are they're playing along the line
of scrimmage, I mean they they look they got.

Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
A legit front front front group. Yeah. I mean, there's
a lot of moving parts on offense, but first rapid
team drills, it's those four guys across, you know, Landry Williams,
bar More and Kean White, and you're like, all right,
here we go, Arn Davis Konzo on the outside.

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
We talk about all these guys at such length that
it's hard to have a secret weapon on this show, right,
you know, because we're covering everybody.

Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
Yeah, you know, yeah, I mean I think the secret
weapon might be as camp goes along and you realize
that somebody is going to have a little bit more
of a role, like you know, Craig Woodson, just throw
it out. You know, he's gonna be like, you know,
somebody's gonna that you're not expecting is really coming on
and might have.

Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
A role somewhere.

Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Yeah, Sean's and Vancouver. What's up, Sean.

Speaker 11 (01:27:41):
I want to help that caller earlier who was going
on about Polk when it eased his concerns a little bit.

Speaker 8 (01:27:48):
Right now in May, I see Polk at like seventh
on the wide receiver depth chart. You have dig yeah Douglas,
than you have Williams.

Speaker 15 (01:27:58):
You have that.

Speaker 9 (01:28:02):
What's the pre agent?

Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
I'm not helping you, Sean. You got Booby and Born
so that's like six and now it's five.

Speaker 7 (01:28:09):
Dick is on people to start the year is an
easier path, but there's no guarantees that he makes the team.

Speaker 8 (01:28:16):
He's gonna really have to show something on the field
and he's gonna have to prove himself.

Speaker 11 (01:28:20):
So if if.

Speaker 9 (01:28:22):
Pulk and Baker are on this team, it shows that
they made a huge year two jump.

Speaker 3 (01:28:27):
And that's what I see it fair enough.

Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
I think that's fair bring my death. If they make
the team, that means they have earned it.

Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
Yeah. I do worry about Jalen Polk though, because he
was fine in camp last year and then it just
completely unrallied for him in the season. So like for
people that have been here, you know, like Elliot Wolf,
like does he look at it and say, well, like
let's pump the brakes like he did this last summer too,
and then we got into the season and it didn't
look the same. So that's the part that I think
is tricky with Polk in particular, is that he did

(01:28:56):
put together a pretty good rookie training camp and he
looked the part and it looked like he was going
to have a role and all that kind of stuff,
And to like you said earlier, he doesn't get his
foot in bounds against Miami early on in the season,
and that was sort of it.

Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
Yeah, so he started thinking and dropping and it just
I don't know, it just and I don't think he
was getting the support he needed, maybe the tough love
that he needed.

Speaker 4 (01:29:19):
I mean, I'm surprised they didn't mention Baker too, because
I feel like there are probably more people on the
Baker hype train, even though they probably did. Both did
nothing last year really when they boil it down. But
I I don't know. We'll see how he how he
comes through. I think it's a good piece to have.
I still like him, I still like the player. I
just hope that Josh McDaniels is able to put him
in position to be successful this year and build his confidence.

Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
Kendall's in North Carolina and Kendall on the field, can't
make the club from the top. Kendall there, kend oh
there you are. Hey.

Speaker 1 (01:29:49):
I wanted to ask y'all what did y'all see out
of Kendrick Born today?

Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
Yeah, okay, both of them were active.

Speaker 4 (01:29:59):
I mean, thanks Kendall. One caught some passes. I mean
they you know, yeah, he looks healthy.

Speaker 3 (01:30:03):
He's good.

Speaker 4 (01:30:03):
Good to see him back out there, and you know
fully participant in you know, Chisholm. You talked a little
bit about him, but he was he was around me.

Speaker 3 (01:30:09):
Yeah, I mean aftin Chisholm looks exactly like every other
slot receiver I've ever seen in a Patriots training camp
so far, uh, you know, from Riley mccarren to Austin
Carr to Gunner ol Chefsky to Braxton Barrios to keep
you know whoever. I mean, he got open, He gets open,
There's no doubt about that. Now he's running a lot

(01:30:30):
with Josh Dobbs and sort of the second unit today,
So I want to see it against you know, Carlton Davis, Gonzalez,
Marcus Jones, like you know, some of the top corners
that they have here. But if he's uh, you know,
he's got that just good knack of you know, kind
of understanding how to get open and where he's supposed
to be and knows his sweet spots and that sort

(01:30:51):
of thing. He's got quickness. He's not fast, but he's quick.
So I think there's something there for him.

Speaker 4 (01:30:57):
Did cause you question, did you clock anybody any other
corners involved there? Like you know, had a nice play
with Williams where he's kind of running with him down
the field.

Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
Yeah, some Alex Austin in there a little bit, But
those four guys seem to get a lot of the
reps during Team Gonzales. Davis Marcus, when's our next access
next week? Yeah? I think next Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (01:31:20):
Yeah, okay, and then Monday, and then I think Mini Camp. Yeah,
my weeks are correct.

Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
This is Jonathan from Virginia. Loved the show, been listening
since thirteen. Wanted to drop in and echo the terrific
response to Forged in Foxborough. I watched it this weekend
and was put at ease with the hiring.

Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Of Mike Vrabel. Very well done.

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
Also, I don't live there anymore, but Traveon Henderson is
from the town I grew up in in Hopewell, Virginia.
We went to the same high school a few years apart.
Saw when he helped win the state championship that season,
was thinking you might fall to us. Since Judkins went
to the Browns and was thrilled when he did, makes
it super easy to root for him in the NFL.
Now it's a big deal in that city that he

(01:32:01):
made it. Saw James White talk about a little birdie
telling him that they're having Trey watch tape of his
time playing. What have you seen from him in the
limited amount of time that he's been on the field,
and does it carry those same James White vibes little
too soon?

Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Well, just it was only today.

Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
He wasn't out at the one rookie MENI camp practice
that we got to see.

Speaker 3 (01:32:21):
But Evan laid it out. Yeah, he looked quick. I
mean he's not the biggest guy, but but he's built. Yeah,
it looks balanced like good. Yeah, it's great to see
a thirty two running back. Thirtiness to him, good speed.
You know, I think he's different from James White, Like
I think James White was a true pass catching back,
you know his third down, third and six. Henderson has

(01:32:43):
more speed, right, Henderson's just a little bit more explosive,
But like, I think he's more well rounded than I know.
James White was good, you know, ran the ball more
in college. But I just don't look at them exactly
the same because I think Henderson's faster in a straight
line and not quite as quick as James White was.
But James White was extremely quick, but maybe not that

(01:33:05):
breakaway speed.

Speaker 1 (01:33:07):
I got a.

Speaker 4 (01:33:07):
Sturdy too, even though they're both small guys, Like I
get a little bit more of a Henderson could take
a little bit more of a beating if he had
to run early down go through that.

Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
That's definitely what I mean. Look, it's one practice. I'm
not going to sit here and like start fitting the
guy for red jackets. But like, the one thing that
i'd always you always look for is like how does
he move? And like how does he carry the weight?
And he just looks like a built player, explosive, built
player that's not six', five not, huge but he's he's

(01:33:39):
got that compact like juice to, him WHICH i think is.

Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Exciting jonathan also, says, Ps Father, FRED i have a.
Confession we're moving and we bought AN lg washer and
dryer instead of a Speed. Queen despite my impassioned speech
to my wife That fred knows all about food stains
and washing, machines it wasn't. ENOUGH i can just see this,
guy But fred, says but he's, like who the f?

Speaker 1 (01:34:01):
Is?

Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Fred why DO i care what this guy on a podcast? Says?

Speaker 4 (01:34:05):
Right, Yeah i've been thinking too much about this Father
fred show keeps popping into my.

Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
HEAD i ACTUALLY i actually had it all worked.

Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
OUT i actually have my treatment so, so but it's
not Father. Fred it's The Chicago. Pope So Chicago. Pope
so what it was is this guy was when he was,
young he was a police officer and he was a
damn good, one. Huh but there's a traumatic experience in
his life that he quit being a police officer became a.

(01:34:36):
Priest and we don't know what that traumatic thing is
that we're going to. Build we're gonna, learn but we don't.
Know we don't we don't know the traumatic. Experience but
he became as good a priest as he was a,
cop and he. Rose he became a bishop and a
cardinal and then eventually. Pope but he can never turn
his back On, chicago so he always goes back to

(01:34:56):
help them fight.

Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Crime my old, BOSSES i, think got a sailor on
line up bidding. MORE nbc wants it a B C, Cbs.

Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
And there's there's The Hot nun right, Right, well you
got to have a will there and.

Speaker 3 (01:35:11):
His Father, fred who plays The Hot, nuns and THAT'S
i don't.

Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
Know but it could be a spin off after a few, Years.

Speaker 3 (01:35:17):
Sophia it's Very. Latin i'm thinking of.

Speaker 4 (01:35:26):
Just like catchphrases BECAUSE i grew, up you, know going
To catholic masses and would, think you, know like the you,
know the name of The, father you, know.

Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
All the little things that could have the double. Meanings
of course it's a gold, mine cold. Mind what did you,
say man?

Speaker 4 (01:35:41):
Ruler, yeah to measure to beat?

Speaker 3 (01:35:45):
People, yeah some. People, now, okay now let's see how
you stack. Up, yeah oh my, god have you?

Speaker 4 (01:35:59):
Sinned, yea WATCHING i have a lot of that.

Speaker 3 (01:36:05):
Stuff you, know it's a Second so it's not for
the old. People your discretion is a. Right Father fred
is intended for mature viewing, Audience, Chicago, Pope Father fred
is a, character, right got to.

Speaker 4 (01:36:21):
Get, wait but you know, What, Fred i'm gonna build on. This,
Okay so you still have connections in the police, force
so you, help of course from time to that's exactly,
right solve the.

Speaker 2 (01:36:30):
Cases so like he's even you, know activity during his
ascension as Priest bishop, cardinal he was always helping the police.

Speaker 3 (01:36:40):
Force that was in his.

Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
Blood but something, happened we don't know that he became a, priest.

Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
Right and it has to be whatever that thing, happened
it has to tie to the antagonist who is the
head of The Chicago, diary.

Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
That he's, Dirty he's involved in something in.

Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
His life that, Said i'm going to become A, yeah so.

Speaker 3 (01:37:04):
Something this sounds like an award Winning. YEAH i just
keep hearing forgive me, father For i've.

Speaker 4 (01:37:08):
Sinned fred Bean line just puts this Like, buffalo.

Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
Give me hear about my time In, tampa.

Speaker 3 (01:37:18):
All, Right.

Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
Daniel writes In i've heard everything About rabel's time With
tennessee and how it relates to what he'll bring To
New england as a, coach but nothing about his time
with The. Browns do you have any opinions or insight
on his time there and if it might have affected his?
Coaching so last, Year.

Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
Yeah we talked about it and a fun, times so you,
KNOW i think it was.

Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
UH i think it was a learning, thing, Right Kevin
stefanski's idea to have him work with the offense a
little bit and work with the offensive, line so getting
a little bit more rounded out in his. Coaching but
every TIME i See, RABEL i mean that goes back
even before last. YEAR i feel like that guy can't
get away from the offensive, Line like he just loves
putting that Pad on and tangling with the big, Boys

(01:38:00):
LIKE i just think it puts them back when he's playing.

Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
Days that's what he's the most, Relatable like they're the
ONES i think you want to coach.

Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
More, yeah you know he has a coaching point for
after every single play he's saying something like there's some
coaches that are kind of stand offish AND i you, know,
TODAY i don't know if it was just by, design
but Like josh McDaniel seemed a little like he had
the headset on and was relaying the plays and he
was kind of letting them play like he wasn't not
after every. Rep he wasn't going up To drake and

(01:38:27):
like coaching. Him But rabel was ten yards behind the.
Play after every play he was talking to, guys you
know you did, this do, that and you know. Whatever
and we've noticed that In Rooky minichamp, Too like he's
as involved as any Coach i've, like maybe even more
involved Than bill in some. Respects he's got an opinion about. Everything, yeah, yeah,

(01:38:49):
Yeah so we had a lot of praise heaped on.
Us now some, grievances got, it this is who is?

Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
This this Is jay feel forced to make this email,
now and there's something else that bothers. Me first, off
you guys are incredible. Entertainers now that the fluff is
over with, one the intro Says patriots unfiltered too many.
Times please get rid of the robot. Voice the world's
original podcast. Works we don't need to hear it. More
it's a bad. Intro, two THE pu halftime or assur

(01:39:21):
we as it's, called is so freaking. Entertaining but the
music is both loud and. Distracting it's a horrible track
to put behind people. Talking it's just loud. Jazz please
fix both the track and the.

Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
Volume? Okay? Done and three, okay why do we even
have music while they're? Talking spice it up? This LIKE
i asked someone here that worked FOR. Espen they can't even.

Speaker 2 (01:39:51):
Answer why is it when you're WATCHING espan and you
get talking heads, analyzing and then they show some? Highlights
do they always feel they have to have the music under?
Bed so he's, talking there's a highlight going on and
there's music, Playing, like.

Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
Why did they do? That do you notice? THAT i know.

Speaker 2 (01:40:08):
That's, yeah they feel that they have to have music
playing when you're watching a. Highlight highlight package even when someone's,
talking and it's.

Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Hard it's hard because we get our coaching From jerry
and like we talk a lot about that about you
don't know when you're, covered, Right so like you could
be talking and they could be showing highlights over, you
and so then how you, LIKE.

Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
I guess maybe the music indicates That i'm. Covered MAYBE
i don't, know.

Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
Right that is tricky, though because like you don't know
you know how the editor is going to edit, you
and so then you have to your your delivery has
to change a little bit when you're covered so that
they can hear. You don't highlights have to have music
or wouldn't that seem? Weird like do you feel like
if you just show Maybe i'm just not picturing. It
but LIKE i always if.

Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
No one's, talking but when there's someone talking and you've
got the music and then they and then, yeah SO
i don't know why they do, that but they all do.

Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
It they all do.

Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
It, Three, evan no one cares about The. Celtics you
make everyone upset every time you go on one of your.

Speaker 3 (01:41:04):
Rants please keep doing it's. Right everybody cares.

Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
A.

Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
Little john In La i've been loving the draft profiles
of the twenty twenty five draft class so much that
it got me thinking it would be kind of cool
and sneaky good way to add content to the site
with very little. Effort If patriots Dot com added a
new future by periodically revisiting old draft profiles of draft

(01:41:31):
picks from the, past you could do a hit and
miss Pairing Logan mankins And Duke, DAWSON i, guess but
it's probably wiser to just play the. HITS i for,
one would love to go back and see What paul
Or Eric orandy wrote about Say Julian edelman Or Teddy,
bruski and what insights the college coaches shared WITH pfw
at the earliest career moments of those. PLAYERS i would
also be curious to read the draft profile done On Aaron,

(01:41:53):
hernandez THOUGH i certainly understand Why pages Dot com might
prefer to leave that one in the rear. View, again
require too many man hours to produce and presto extra.
CONTENT i think we do that leading up to the
draft next, year like it's sort of like an appetizer
to the.

Speaker 3 (01:42:10):
Draft, yeah you, know do you think My Dalton keene
one will make the? Cut or is it.

Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
Could.

Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
YEAH I i love doing the draft. Profiles it's one
of my favorite things to do because it's just, ball,
right just talk about these. Guys you just get to
talk about their their playing styles and at their you,
know their, journeys their football, journeys.

Speaker 4 (01:42:26):
And the cons are always so excited to talk about.
Them they're so proud of their former. Players and, yeah
it's it's and it's different because we you, know we
cover the, Team we write about the team with a
little observation of that. Kind but to have just a
chance to interview someone and write in our, boats it's
fun and.

Speaker 3 (01:42:41):
You get to fox a different, muscle like write a
ton of. Features SO i DON'T i be able to
write something like? That is? Cool and shout Out alex And.
Jules yeah they. Did both also chipped in and then
wrote a couple of. Them so helped us get through
all eleven of THE i think we're done, now, RIGHT
i think webb minor. Published SO i think we're to
be minor. Published and you, know you guys have been
doing that fight all the way back to the paper. Days,
always well we do it in.

Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
Writing, yeah they'd always call the coaches from college and
they'd have like a little, chart like a bar, chart coachability,
technique and they'd have they'd show you know where they
are on those different.

Speaker 4 (01:43:16):
CATEGORIES i don't Think i've done anybody who's stuck LIKE i,
Had Like, MAX i remember At.

Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
KING i mean there's been a lot of you guys
have spoiled, me And i've gotten their first round pick
the last three. Years SO i Did, GONZO'S i Did Drake,
may's so those ones have been good so. Far this
is gert And.

Speaker 2 (01:43:36):
Belgium it's my first time writing in but after seeing
the first episode of fours In, FOXBOROUGH i had to
when the episode was, over especially the part With Will.
CAMPBELL i wanted to start a career In madden as
a left. Tackle can you have a career in Mad.

Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
Yeah it's a little.

Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
TEDIOUS i got goosebumps during the whole draft portion of the.
EPISODE i feel like we got our. Guys i'm excited
about the. Future can't wait till the season. BEGINS i
love what you guys and girls. Do listen TO pe
when my runs and it almost makes me Forget i'm
on a.

Speaker 4 (01:44:07):
WORKOUT i MEAN i have kind of Like i'll have
to think of the, term but just like encouragement about
tackles right now because to see Just Will campbell out
there at left, Tackle moses wasn't really, participating but, yeah
you're still Getting Katan wallace some opportunities out there.

Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
And Even Trey.

Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
Jacobs SO i don't, KNOW i just it's just great
to look out there and be, like There's Will. Campbell
you spent all this like last three months thinking about this.

Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
Kid is he going to be? Here and then all
of a, sudden he's just. There he, is he's your left. Tackles.
YEAH i, mean there's gonna be rookie growing paints for any,
player And i'm Sure Will campbell have. His but just
like the way he moves looks like a top ten. Pick,
yeah the explosiveness out of his stance and just how
quickly he gets into the block and the power that
he can generate from the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
Up and he's still a, baby, yeah relatively. Speaking he's
only twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
Two, yeah, well AND i think that's a good, thing
you know, too just their theme of last couple of.
Years you, know you Get gonzo's only twenty, Two drake
may is still only twenty. Two Will campbell is young
and all these guys that came out as true junior, declares,
like you, know that's like the real premium talent when
you get your hand and they've been drafting highs and that's.
Why but like that's those types of guys are the

(01:45:16):
guys that are really the blue chip level talents because
they broke out so early in their college. Careers so
you see all three of these guys together, now and
LIKE i said, EARLIER i, Mean gonzo is the best
player on the field.

Speaker 4 (01:45:28):
Today you know WHAT i was thinking about real quick
was when we Had chase on in here and he
talked about going Opposite Max. Crosby Is patriots Got Max
crosby coming here week one For Will. CAMPBELL i wonder
if that's going to be a matchup That.

Speaker 3 (01:45:41):
Max crosby, typically, Right, yeah they switch them to go
after the. ROOKIE i, Mean i'd definitely be testing him
IF i was another. Team. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:45:52):
Sure matthew And arizona Love forge And foxborough was wondering
it would be fun to do a small web. Series
Uh evan or whoever drives a player or coach in
a golf cart to and From Duncan Gillette stadium To
duncan as you talk to them about all things about their.
LIVES a good way to get to know. Everyone one on.

Speaker 3 (01:46:11):
One dunkin, run you could do That dunkin Run, yeah
up on the.

Speaker 2 (01:46:15):
Thing, yeah because you'd have to take the long, Way
so that would be a good you, know ten to
fifteen minutes in the golf could be.

Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
Fun Because i'm not the best golf cart.

Speaker 4 (01:46:24):
Driver to add an element of danger to it THAT
i think would really spice it up a little bit of.

Speaker 2 (01:46:28):
YOU i, mean what if what if you had a
driver and the two of you sit in that backseat
so you're facing Out duncan run and a.

Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
Golf cart On route? One might be, like, no you
don't go on.

Speaker 2 (01:46:38):
One you're going to go the long go the long
way and then you drive right up into dunk To.

Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
Duncan, yeah and mobile order they bring it right. Out
So i'm gonna, say because the one and the one
right down the street has a drive, through so you
could take the golf.

Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Car we're not taking a golf cart And rule, One
oh my.

Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
God dunking, run where's tim? FROM i can call in
tell us if you like.

Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
IT i can just see it. Now they're doing what sold.

Speaker 3 (01:47:05):
A sponsor element wrecking your, money Mister.

Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
Kraft one of your golf carts got involved in an.

Speaker 3 (01:47:12):
Accident it could be like you could be like a,
gator not like a golf. Cart but.

Speaker 2 (01:47:17):
What about it nowhere.

Speaker 3 (01:47:22):
Where there's other, traffic? Forklift we'll just hit, people not.

Speaker 2 (01:47:26):
Cars audrey, says do you know about the OLD bbc
show Called Father? TED i didn't know. That it's both
stupid and very. Funny the religious humor is. Great have
a couple of, drinks watch and laugh right up your,
alley frek quite.

Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
Inappropriate Father. Ted look at that Up Father? Ted, okay
it's An irish television. Dram, yeah. Sarcastic a lot of.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
EMAILS i was worried that when we pushed the show
to two that we wouldn't have the same, Audience but
according to the calls and, emails we'll still have the
same amount of. People So paul didn't tell, like he,
said can we do the show On? Wednesday because of.
Practice he didn't tell me that he wasn't going to
be on this.

Speaker 4 (01:48:07):
Show he was trying, to you, know trying to double.
Dip he was trying to get the move without.

Speaker 3 (01:48:10):
HAVING i, know but he's trying to push catch twenty
two and that's what he was trying to do about.

Speaker 4 (01:48:14):
It it's, like why don't we just do it the
day after at the same, Time, like well even does
kind of my time's.

Speaker 2 (01:48:18):
Lot paul Uh ismar writes In, Ismar i'm, sorry uh
he has a pronunciation in the. Bottom he needs some
advice planning to come over from THE uk to watch
a home game early in the, season which SHOULD i.
Choose i'm leaning towards The steelers because of the, history
But panther seems like emphasis on seams the best chance

(01:48:40):
of seeing a. Win or SHALL i suck it up
and go to?

Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
Both? Well, Both, well that's a good call to go
early in the. Season you want to you, know you
don't Post halloween it can get a little, chili as everyone,
Knows so it's a good. CALL i would Go pittsburgh
like there's a little bit more like he, said there's a,
more more, history more, rivalry Like panthers that it just
doesn't have a lot of juice to be.

Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
Well but if your sole goal is to see a, win,
true it might Be. Panthers BUT i say, that but
who knows who's going to be what this.

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
YEAR i also who's going to Be steeers. Quarterback it
sounds like it's gonna Be Aaron. Rodgers but there.

Speaker 4 (01:49:15):
Also might be a cost consideration because that might be
one of those upper tier. Games it's a little bit
more expensive than The panthers game.

Speaker 3 (01:49:22):
Too, yeah that's. True they are.

Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Tiered ron from The pocono's right sin is subject line
is the Statue brady holding the ball overhead just Before vinitari's.
Kick that's the carved in stone. Image for, me it's
an iconic moment in, time almost biblical. Epic it symbolizes
everything that came before and what's about to.

Speaker 3 (01:49:44):
Happen it's.

Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
Perfect the conquering hero raising the, trophy the victor holding
the severed head of the vanquished enemy of. MEDIOCRITY i
don't see any other frozen moments that tells. Us SO i,
guess did you guys ask for what the statue should.

Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
Look like or.

Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
That's just? Random? OKAY i think we.

Speaker 4 (01:50:02):
Did we did tell we did some statue talk last,
week maybe from out a little bit of Sat.

Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
Yeah and if if you want to know when the
statue is going to be, UNVEILED i don't, KNOW i don't.

Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
Know nobody. Does nobody. Does statues are. COMPLICATED i don't.
KNOW i don't. Know it looks do you?

Speaker 2 (01:50:23):
HEAR i GUESS i forget who from The raiders said
that he's rarely, there but he's very.

Speaker 3 (01:50:28):
Involved Pe CARROLL. P carroll, said, yeah it makes. Sense
he is the. Coach SO i don't know what very
involved me sounds like it might be, annoying but, yeah
daily update. Callers he was supposed to be here more.
Often like how percentage of the team does he? Own
actually do we? Know is it like? One, Yeah mark's In.

Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
Connecticut there we, Go, mark what's?

Speaker 3 (01:50:54):

Speaker 9 (01:50:56):
Hey everybody thinks for taking my? CALL i got a
two quick things for, you speaking Of Will, Campbell i'm
on vacation down here In Baton. Rouge what we see in?

Speaker 17 (01:51:05):
Us?

Speaker 9 (01:51:05):
Right AND i got to go down To Tiger. Stadium
what an amazing facility they got.

Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
THERE i was.

Speaker 9 (01:51:13):
There and the other, Thing, evan how does our GUY
J deprie? LOOK i know it's only a, spring you,
KNOW o pas and, Whatever but what do you think
is the kid got a good shot.

Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
To make the.

Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
ROSTER i can't wait to see him in. Pads he
looks he's. Huge, yeah it looks like he's a sixth
offensive lineman when he lines up at outside the. Tackle
so this is not the time of year FOR. Cj
dupree to. Shine he's not an. Athlete he's a big
time blocker and a you, know, big big physical. Dude

(01:51:45):
so we'll see when the pads come on In. August
that's when he's going to make the. ROSTER i don't
think it's going to be, now but that just even
had rookie midiicamp that he just a big, guy you,
know really well.

Speaker 4 (01:51:55):
BUILT i was kind of, thought Shaheem bell looked, good
like well. BUILT i didn't seem to anything, today but
just saw him walking out and look like he's in
real good. Shape we'll see he's another one of those
wild card.

Speaker 1 (01:52:05):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (01:52:06):
YEAH i went down to Uh l's For Jaden daniels's
pro day a couple of years, ago and that facility is.
Something it was. Cool they have like catwalks so you
can so you can get like the bird's eye view
of the of the practice. Field SO i was up
there Watching Jayden daniels throw darts To Molik neighbors And
Brian Thomas junior.

Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
And all three of these guys again, right oh my,
God like that's when we were at that partment, before
WHEN i was, like can you believe he used to
Be Joe burrow And jefferson And chase and now can you?

Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
Believe Like.

Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
Mike And groveland writes IN i emailed about having better
off season programming like other teams own hard knock style. Shows,
wow you delivered with that first episode of fours and
Fox bow well done by All SO i mean, People
I'm i'm really glad that people are enjoying, it you,
know like he, said other teams have had this like

(01:52:57):
nothing new was, invented but for our fan, base it's all.

Speaker 3 (01:53:01):
New, yeah it's all.

Speaker 4 (01:53:02):
New so it felt like kind of a pellet cleanser
to me after the last couple of, years where just
if a video could hit the reset button as far
as the mood around the, team that's what it felt
like it did for. Me and that's just you know
where my fan hat like they showed us the, TRAILER
i don't, know like three weeks ago or.

Speaker 3 (01:53:21):
SOMETHING i don't. Like this is this is. Perfect this
is just what this team needs to just hit the reset.

Speaker 4 (01:53:26):
Button as far as all this stuff goes and you,
know get everybody focused on what's so great about Rabel,
Is like people know, them they like, them but they're
not like they don't know him knowing they don't know
him as a coach really Had and that's WHAT i
think they'll they'll they'll it'll be good to get to
know him that.

Speaker 3 (01:53:41):
Way, yeah it's good to get to know the personnel guys,
Too LIKE i Think Ryan kaden seems like an awesome,
executive right and have him here, too and get to
know him and maybe get to Know elliott a little
bit more than what people know of. Him you. KNOW
i think that's. GOOD i think that's it's good to
like have that sort of relationship with a. GUY i
don't think that's always the case.

Speaker 4 (01:54:02):
HERE i almost ran up to him today because he
was walking off a little bit before, me and, like
he's just been so nice to all of, us and
we talked to him on, hey when we talked to
him during draft, nights, saying you, know nice to meet you,
guys you know this way, finally but, YEAH i don't,
know he just he seems to really care and understand
the position he's, in AND i think so far he's
doing a good job kind of bringing it all.

Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
Together Bretton lemonster wouldn't be a show Without jaws mentioned
H so last week the crew was talking about a
company day Seeing jaws in the theater with their craft co.
Workers how about a Pu jaws Showing the crew and
their listeners can go to When Fox fur and watch.
It you can have, trivia promise to give out more free,
shirts maybe have deuced, guests speak on jazz stuff he's

(01:54:41):
learned from, podcasts And evan could wear A celtics jersey
and make popcorn for everybody.

Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
And not watching just. SMOKE i don't like. This Watched
jaws With Patriots. Unfiltered you, KNOW i like this idea
of Watching jaws, though Because i've watched See i've watched
it like once WHEN i was like a, KID i
didn't get. It so maybe as an, adult, like, Well
i'll explain it's a shark killing. People it kills. PEOPLE

(01:55:08):
i don't think it was that, Good LIKE i just
didn't didn't get. That you didn't get.

Speaker 4 (01:55:11):
That, yeah it's like the five year Old evan was
LIKE i don't. CARE i was, like where's the where's the?
Shark like that looks fake. Stupid, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:55:20):
Exactly, YEAH i MEAN i can't understand now with C
G i and, everything everything is just there's nothing left
to the. Imagination but where a young person today would be, like,
yeah that that movie.

Speaker 3 (01:55:32):
Stucks but BUT.

Speaker 4 (01:55:33):
I think THE cg stuff stuff looks fake to. Me
like IF i watch Like Deep Blue, sea.

Speaker 3 (01:55:38):
Which is another, SHOW i mean that shock didn't look
those shorts. Looks BUT i think you can suspend disbelief
In that's WHAT i.

Speaker 2 (01:55:44):
Mean but nowadays nobody wants to suspend.

Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
Joke it's gonna look LIKE i just didn't get it's
no Humor And, josh what do you mean like all
the like the little one liners that you And paul are,
dropped those aren't actually. Jokes they're just actually dramatic.

Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
Boat that's that would be that would be your college film.

Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
Course there's no humor In. Jaws that's the name of your.

Speaker 4 (01:56:07):

there actually any?

Speaker 3 (01:56:13):

say there's some some joke.

Speaker 4 (01:56:21):
That's supposed to be a. Joke jokes about like the
scars and. Stuff there's some joking around going on, there
but it's very serious. Movie people are getting eaten by a.
Shark they gotta do something about.

Speaker 1 (01:56:29):
It you.

Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
KNOW i go to The jaws bridge every. Time we got,
It we got.
