The World's a Vigeon podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. During the Brady years, we've watched
a preseason game. Boy, our twos and threes aren't as
good as their twos and threes. Right, we said that
a lot.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm sure I did.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I don't know we did.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
I don't really I haven't really cared about the preseason
a a lot.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Okay, that's my point.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
The team I think that's gonna win the Super Bowl
is like a ninety eight. The team that they think
are the worst in the league are like a seventy.
You know, they're kind of nice about it.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
That's Madden.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
There, there's your Maden minute.
Speaker 6 (00:43):
My son kills me in madd and it's so frustrated,
that's embarrassing and kills me. I'm getting off cocky and
I'm like, oh, I'm gonna hit you with the blitz
right here, and he's just like, man touchdown.
Speaker 7 (00:50):
Evan's very smart. Obviously, he knows a lawn. Thank You's
very good within his own lane.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (00:55):
That being said, Evan is a little bit of a
no at all. Now they still have a clutch, you said, yeah,
but they have a paddle shift tattle shifting cars. You
don't use the clutch and a pattleship that he.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Wow, thanks me boom wait. I'm sweet kid. Rights. It
haven't heard from him in a long time. Melvin and Tennessee.
I spent the summer studying the English language so that
I can sound smarter. So far, I've learned three new words.
I don't know what those words are though yet. Anyway,
this is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
(01:28):
deals by a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome to
Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at j Let's Stadium,
and we've got a lot to talk about, starting with
all the transactions that have happened over the last couple
of days, but also today the NFL and the Patriots
revealed the rivalries jerseys. I guess there's eight teams that'll
(01:51):
be wearing rivalry jerseys this year. Patriots are one of them.
They'll be wearing them against the Jets when they play
that game in November. And we've got our hands on
some of the swag, including the actual jersey and helmet
and some of the sideline gear, and we'll get into
that a little later in the show. Mike will actually uh,
he'll uh.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Yeah, I thought we were getting a player.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
That was going to come in here and you're playing
I'm not a player.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, I just did a take over there.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Okay, that was one of the most genuinely funny things
you've ever said.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Say it again.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
True people were talking.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
It's a joke, all right. So we're gonna we've got
our hands on this rivalry stuff and we're gonna look
up close and get into all the details.
Speaker 9 (02:48):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
I know people have opinions on it, like, you know,
should have been read, should have been I like it.
I happen to like it, and we're going to get
into that. But first, it's Evan, Paul, Alex Dude, myself,
matt Na Booth, and let's talk about the cuts and
transactions that have transpired, because they're coming fast and furious.
(03:08):
Who wants to lead it off?
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Oh my lord, I start.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I want to go all the way back to Tuesday,
or well since since our last I know you talked
a lot about it on Catch two. Yes, did.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
We got and we got to the bottom of it.
Of course, talked a lot about eight receivers for twenty
minutes and then now I only have six receivers, you know,
things like.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
A good place to start, you know, it's just kid's
initial like eight. And now Kendrick Bourne is gone, and
Javon Baker's a little bit in limbo reports that he
might want to come back for the practice squad.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
I don't know if I really believe it.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
Evan was just out of practice though, yeah, I was.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Just out of practice. And they do have a couple
of new faces. It seems like on the practice squad,
maybe some practice squad movement. I we'll find out later today,
but no Christian Gonzales still in street clothes. He's there
physically but not practicing. And today no Anthony Jennings, which
put up some intennas about what situation is with that.
(04:04):
So well, we'll see what happens with that.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
But already happen.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Yeah, yeah, but Gonzalez continues to come out to practice
in street clothes, watch practice.
Speaker 6 (04:16):
Uh, we can worry, worried forever small get him.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
It's not about week one. I'm not concerned. I'm concerned
that this is a significant hamstring injury and those linger.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, I'm giving give him every day he can, you
can give him with a hamstring.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yeah, yeah, I'm I. I wasn't concerned about it. I
was very adamant about that. But him not being back
out there for these two practices is small sea concerned,
I think is a little bit a good way to
describe it, because now they're behind closed doors. We're not
watching practice anymore at this point. So I thought this
would be maybe a target date for him to return
(04:56):
once the media can't watch him running around and stuff
like that and have all their opinions on how he looks.
And now we haven't been out there the last two
days and he has not been particed.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
But what you're seeing today is what we'll see for
the rest of the season in terms of practice.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yes, So I figured that's why he thought Bellas would
be back, right.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
I figured what we had Monday's practice was the last
one that was open to the media, and then I
kind of thought, of, you know, that's what Bill would
have done. He would have said, oh, like you want
to see Gonzales, you can watch them stretch, you know.
So I think that.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Paul said it small sea concern. Yeah, yeah, it becomes
a capital scene next Wednesday.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Yeah, he's on the report not practice.
Speaker 10 (05:37):
If he did.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
If he doesn't practice next Wednesday, I would worry about
week one.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Now I'm worried.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, but I get I just might worry is more
about the opener, like because if it's a game or whatever,
you know, that's if you needed more time. But with
soft tissue injuries for an elite athlete is a concern
for me because he relies on he needs to have
bad athleticism to be Gonzales.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I totally understand twitch your long term outlook and that's
how you're looking through it. I'd still find it just
a little disappointing that we got a couple of days
of him in practice and then he basically missed all
this training camp.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
It's just not ideal.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
And we know how Mike Rabel in the past has
kind of felt about soft tissue injuries. And I was
on the boat with everybody else kind of like, all right,
they're gonna just manage him and then once it gets
dound the nitty gritty, he'll be back.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
You know what. It reminds me of Randy Moss.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
There's been a lot of talk about that then, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yeah, all right. Bourne is interesting because there were rumors
that we were talking to Minnesota and then all of
a sudden, Minnesota signed Adam Thalen, and I think they
were looking at both guys. This is just a speculation.
They were looking at both guys, and Faling was the
easiest one because you didn't have to give up anything
(06:53):
for him.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Well, they traded for Falin instead of trading for Born.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, but very little right like that.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Some pick swaps sure arey similar.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
But I don't know what the Patriots are asking for.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yeah, I think it's probably more to do with money. Yeah,
but I don't to you a point, we're just speculating, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Unfamiliarity obviously with Minnesota and the Vikings, but it seemed
like they instead this is happening more and more. Instead
of acquiring picks, you actually just move up within the
same draft, So like you trade your own seventh for
their fifth. Yeah, so you just like move up like
the same way, the same trade the Patriots did for
Joe Milton, right where you're just instead of getting adding
(07:33):
a pick, you're actually just moving up like two rounds
day three pick swaps.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
And so then reportedly again he was asked to be
released and the Patriots accommodated.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Well, he he says he asked to be released, right.
Rabel had a different take on that, did say, it's
kind of like your girlfriend after you break up and
you say, oh, yeah, I know, I broke.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Up with her too, I break up with you.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Correct, George, very well, very well done. Yeah, So it
all depends on who you believe.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Yeah, either way, it was mutual. Yet either way, when
we saw eight receivers on the roster after cut day,
we were like, really.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Well, we knew they weren't going to have eight, but it
was jarring to see eight.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
Yeah, seemed like I kind of thought that they were
maybe going to put Born on IR to start the year,
and they ended up not using the second IR return spot.
They only used one on Jelani TV, So they ended
up kind of, you know, losing that opportunity there to
do it. And I think it's because they were probably
thought they were going to be trading Born. I think
(08:42):
they thought they had traction on a trade for Kendrick Bourne.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Now there's a lot of reporting out.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
There that you laid out Fred and it didn't it
didn't materialize, and so then you end up having to
just cut him.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
So I don't know, Baker comments, I I I don't
think he's going to come back, And this is just
my opinion. He to me seems like the kind of
guy that had his feelings hurt. I know, he clearing
his Instagram out, which is always the big red fall.
Speaker 11 (09:11):
This and then made the roster. So what was going
on there? And then he got released the next day.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Maybe there was communication that, but you're not actually on
the own a house.
Speaker 11 (09:24):
Yeah, I mean, look, it's a good real estate market.
Speaker 12 (09:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I'm over the Jayvon Baker of it all.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Like, I just don't think he's the kind of guy
that's going to redefine himself as a special teams player
and become a stalwart and do everything that's involved with
being a key special team player. I think he wants
to be a receiver. I still think he thinks he
should be a receiver. And my impression of how it
seems is that he kind of had his feelings hurt
and now he's gonna go somewhere else and say I
(09:54):
want a fresh start. I want to try somewhere where
I can make it as a receiver, and you're not
going to be selling me on you have to be
a special teamer.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
To be here.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I did like mac Hollins's comments on those, you know,
because he's been in that situation in the past where
you want to be a receiver, you think you're good
enough to be one of them, but your opportunity is
to contribute on special teams, and you do that and
then you do it well, and then eventually those opportunities
will present themselves when injuries and things happened. So when
(10:22):
he initially made the roster, I was thinking seven because,
like we said, they weren't going to take eight. I
you know, six to me is a lot, let alone
eight eight. It is absurd. I think the Chiefs have
like nine if you count Rashid Rice well, but he
made it, but Rice is suspended for the first six games.
But they actually have, you know, even more receivers. So
(10:42):
I think that was a really high number. But I
was wondering if Baker was taking the advice that Hollins
I thought was giving him and saying, because would you
have been stunned in the first game if the first
time the Patriots punted. It was Brendan Schooler on one
side and Javon Baker on the other, No.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
It would have been a little bit like I just
you know, I love the experiment. I love trying to
help him to find a way. I just don't know
if he was really good at it or he was
ever going to be consistent.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Because no one's really paying attention.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
I think he was good at it, but I do
agree with your premise of Matthew Slater was dedicated to
his craft, like he was somebody that was and had
that what's the word, like almost patience and and just
like ability to just understand his role and all that
(11:33):
kind of stuff, where he didn't really have like these
huge aspirations of like I'm a receiver and I should
be starting at receiver. And I think Brandon's Schooler is
in the same boat where Brendon Schooler is just trying
to be the best special teamer that he can possibly be,
and I don't know if Javon Baker would reinvent himself
into that kind of player.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
So I totally agree with you guys, and I don't
know bad about Baker, but very few special teams guys
accept the fact that they're just special teams.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Yeah, slaters and the schoolers of the world are outliers.
More often than not. There are guys that are saying, yeah, Okay,
that's my that's my step into the league, that's my
way onto the roster. But I'm going to be something eventually, right,
That's how most of them.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
You want them to think that, you want them to
aspire to be.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
On the phone, I agree with you guys about Baker.
You know what little we know of him, his personality, you.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Know, his discipline, Like, does he his discipline.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
In his obvious confidence? I don't know if you would
embrace that role, but by all accounts this summer he was.
He was doing that. So I wouldn't have been stunned
if he stayed on the roster and he was immediative
in week one.
Speaker 11 (12:42):
So and he didn't the personality fit because Rabel's whole
thing has been earn a role and if that's the role,
you can earn, leverage it, you know, and keep working
towards it. If he's not willing to accept that, does
the personality fit in here?
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, it's a it's a great, great point, and I
wouldn't argue with Mike for or sort of being skeptical
he would I mean, is I think based on what
you know, you should be a little skeptical.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
And it's up to It's up to Baker.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
I mean, I think reports are they wanted him back
to come back to the practice squad, and if he
is willing to embrace that role and he likes New
England and he sees an opportunity here to grow, I mean,
there certainly is a lot of questions about the Wide
Receiver Corp going forward. I mean, it still seems to
me long term opportunity for sure him if he put
it all together. But I guess we'll find out today if.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And Mike Reese is the one who tweeted that he
was expected to be back on the practice squad. Correct.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Also, I hope they'll be serving chicken cutlets now in
the press box because.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
If he likes Mexican food, Tommy DeVito.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Is, uh, everyone has been signed.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
What if he like really likes like like Chinese.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Food, Okay, And everybody's just like, but what you know,
what do you make of the signing? And I kind
of teased it on Tuesday. I let people know one on.
Speaker 13 (13:55):
The postgame show, You're like, I mean, he looks like
a functional third certain quarterback is probably gonna get so
I think they needed ahead of the current that but
I think it's a move they had to make, and
I think they'll probably be more of these kind of
moves trying to round out some of their.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
You think he's gonna vibe for the backup job, I.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Actually do if they give him the opportunities this time
of year. Obviously the opportunities are limited, but he does
feel like maybe a little bit of a better fit
for Josh McDaniels than Dobbs. I think Dobbs got a
little bit more physical talent than Tommy DeVito does. But
if you're looking for your backup quarterback to just come
in and not screw up, then I think there's more.
(14:36):
He's more consistent throwing the football. I think I think
his timing is a little bit better. Dobbs definitely has
a bigger arm and is more athletic, But I wonder
if maybe there's a better fit, you know, with backup
quarterbacks that the PFF numbers are just very very telling,
like he's down the bottom of the league in big
time throws down the bottom of the league against pressure,
(14:58):
but also up near the top of the league getting
turnover worthy plays in a good way.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
Right, So he's like, I thought you're going with some positive.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Thing is possible?
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Yeah, I guess I could have particulated that.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Understood. Yeah, So, but.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
He's also terrible.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
He doesn't turn them all over, but he also doesn't
make any like franchise quarterback plays.
Speaker 5 (15:23):
Taylor sounds like quarterback.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
So if you want a backup quarterback that's like maybe
a little bit more stable than a Josh Dobbs, I
think that Tommy DeVito fits that bill.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
He kind of like Mac.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Jones and Bailey Zappy, like morphed together into one quarterback.
Like he's got a little bit of Zappy and he's
got a little bit of mac uh But at the
same time quarterback, Well, we're talking about the backup quarterback up,
we're not really the bar is not very high. That's
the way I would describe Tommy DeVito. So I could
(15:58):
see Josh favoring that like I did.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Dobbs.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
To me, I don't know if he's a great fit
for the type of system they want to run all
the time because of his inaccuracies, like he's a little
bit wild throwing the football, or if you have to
throw a guy in the game, you just want him
to kind of run the system and hit the layups
and not screw up. And maybe Divido could be better at.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Yeah, I think he's limited athletically, but I think he's
decisive and I think he's fairly accurate, so you know,
in a in a pinch, you might be able to
come in and just you know, keep things, keep things
rolling until the big guy comes back.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
I don't have any faith either way there.
Speaker 11 (16:34):
I think from a content perspective, it's great because what
other third string quarterback are you going to get engagement
out of?
Speaker 12 (16:40):
I say we take him to the north end.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Yeah, like we've never had an Italian guy before.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
I mean Rome and Anthony that there's something there or something.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
All right, so h to me. The other notable one
is the release of Cold Strange, So the Cold Strange experiment, Mike.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
They also claimed somebody else off of waivers. We probably
should talk about Charles.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Woods special teams kind of a guy.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
So I think that's a little bit when I when
I saw them sign him, I wondered about Baker a
little bit because it seems like he's going to be
a gunner kind of a guy. So had some experience
last year's I believe an undrafted guy who made the team.
So they had two claims from them, and you know,
I would just say they still flew with the practice squad.
I know, there were I think three new faces out
there today, but you know, ten of these guys are rookies.
(17:31):
Two of them were draft picks, so eight guys that
were their udfas and then you know a handful of
other guys with Lidstrom, Truman, Jones, Miles Battle Giles, Terrell Jennings,
and the international exemption for David Oligiga. So I just
found that interesting, And I mean maybe this is always
the case. Sometimes things happened and they're like, you know,
but just held on to a lot of their own rookies,
(17:51):
trying to build some of that depth.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Just why in the program. I don't know. I didn't
see the final numbers on how many actual waiver CLIs
games there were yesterday. They were thirty. Like that to
me makes a little sense, you know, let fewer than
one per team, because I think most teams they work
with their guys all summer, they want to retain them
(18:13):
on the practice squads, and I think that's what most
of the teams do rather than unless they have something
that's really glaring and they go out and they make
a move. But I'm not surprised that there's not a
tremendous amount of activity on that.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
One thing I kind of noted I found interesting was
that the Bills had both Jordan Poyer and Harrison Opes.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
What is that some feedback in here.
Speaker 6 (18:41):
I hope they can, but the Bills have, you know,
they have little two veterans who have been around. Poyer
I know haven't been with the team for a while,
but a little bit more of like, oh, there, they've
got some veterans that they know that they might get
into the games.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
That Boyer come back last year on the practice squad
late in the year, or is that hide.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
Bringing them back?
Speaker 6 (18:59):
But it's you know, I saw some of that in
the past with the Patriots, where they would have vested veterans.
I think on the practice squad is guys that man,
these guys could be on a roster maybe, but yeah, career,
they don't.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Have any and they're one of the only teams that
don't have any vested veterans currently on the practice squad,
So I do wonder if that will change with some
of the moves that we're hearing about today. Three new guys,
it looks like maybe on the practice squad, but as
of right now, they they have guys that were all
sixteen of the signings were in camp with the Patriots,
(19:31):
so you know they and they were all waiver guys,
guys that were on rookie contracts or early career.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
You allowed the seventeenth because of o G.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah, so you have seventeen? Do you have a free
spot on Ola Jiga on the practice squad?
Speaker 1 (19:45):
So international pathway players.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Right, might as well just carry carry him from London London.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Great.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Great.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
We got a great email, I guess I feel like
I read it. It was one of these shows.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
We got an email from like his like teacher who
live in England and saying what a great guy he
is and how excited he was to follow his career and.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Did he use his hands when he sent the email
to jazz hands.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Very expressive when I talk a lot.
Speaker 12 (20:09):
Of emojis in the email.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Yeah, okay, a little bit just quickly on on Charles Woods,
I feel like he profiles really similarly to Marcella's Dial,
and they obviously Dial was lost for the year.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
I think Dial was going to make the team and
he would have been. Yeah, the gunner that we're talking
about school.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
So similar, you know, five eleven, one ninety four or
five guy that plays slot corner and gunner and special teams.
So a little bit similar in terms of the body
type in the role that he's played in LA over
the last couple of years and in camp. So I
kind of saw all that and was like, oh, maybe
this is they're thinking if we would have had Marcella's
(20:49):
Dial in that role, so now we'll have we'll have
Woods in that role potentially.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Yeah, it makes sense. The other thing with the roster
that stood out to me is Ki Douger and Anthony
Jennings and where there their places and to a lesser
extent of brill peppers, you know, will we see more
in terms of trades? You know, we had reports, as
(21:14):
Fred said, about Kendrick Bourne being involved in a in
a trade scenario with Minnesota. Is there a taker for
one of those guys, one of those veterans that seems
to have slipped down the death chart a little bit
they're all still here as of now. Jennings wasn't out
at practice when when Evan was at that window. Be
(21:35):
interesting to see if there's any moves coming.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
So, so what am I missing about Peppers? I thought
he was going to be a mainstay. I thought he
was going to be the lead safety and the reason
he played deep into the Giants was to see Woodson
next to him and how they played together. But like
I have, Peppers maybe being.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
A captain, I'd say this is a late development.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
The last few practices he's been with the twos, so
the first practice and Soda he I mean, to be honest,
he was kind of struggling a little bit and coverage
with some of the tight ends and the screens and
stuff that were going on.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Yeah, but he also had a great play. He had
probably the play of the day where.
Speaker 6 (22:10):
He dropped that as the deep safety and jumped up
and knocked away a deep pass to Jordanais and he
came down hard. I think that's why he missed day
two of the practices and then didn't play in the game,
and then we got out to practice and or you said,
you know, he played. Sorry, he played late into the Giants. Game,
like you said, and then you know, this thing came
out of Oh yeah, they want him to play with Woodson,
all right. You know I kind of bought that initially
didn't and then we got to practice and it's like,
(22:33):
now that's still Hawkins and Woodson out there as the
top two safeties. And there's definitely still a role for
Jabril Peppers, which I won't get too into specifics with that.
He does still play in certain packages and stuff, but
at least as far as the last few practices we
were able to watch, he was kind of out of it.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Maybe he was still kind of hurt. I don't know, Fred,
I have a theory. Yeah, you know, I know how
you like my cockamade things.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Yeah, sure, I like to share him.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
So I think we can all agree that they're probably
looking to deal Dugger, right, he's too good of a
player to just release. You might be able to get
something for him. We don't want to just completely cut
ties with a guy that has that resume, right, We
all in agreement that they're probably looking to move on
from Dugger. At least one or two I think at
(23:16):
least one report indicated that the salary has been a problem.
They can't find a team to take the salary. So
what I'm wondering is, Okay, so you're interested, you like
the player, you want a player like that, But not
that said, how about Peppers? Would you take Peppers instead?
So they maybe they shed a little salary, not as
much as Dugger. They're similar kind of you know, physical
(23:39):
safeties better near the line of scrimma. I'm not saying
they're exactly the same because they're not. Dougger is, I think,
much more athletic, and I think Peppers is more physical.
But I wonder if maybe that's where this sort of
change in his Peppers. Dugger was relegated to secondary groups
(23:59):
before Pepper us was. Pepper's thing is much more recent.
So I'm wondering if maybe they haven't been able to
move Douga. Right now they're saying, oh, I wonder if
we could move Peppers.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Is the money that big of a deal, But.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
You tell me, I don't know. Yeah, I don't think
Douger's money is that big of a deal. That's what
I think it goes back to. That's what this is about.
Do you think so?
Speaker 4 (24:19):
I think it goes it is, I think, but it's
also like about like the standing in the locker room,
Like if you're going to have Kyle Dugger on the
roster and he's barely going to play, and he's one
of the highest paid players on the team and he
doesn't have a role on game days, like that's always
a tough dynamic within the locker room of you know,
this guy was a captain last year, they just paid him,
(24:41):
and now he doesn't play on Sundays, and that I
think can maybe they're worried about that dynamic being awkward.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
It's possible. It's also a good lesson like doesn't matter,
Like you know.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
I mean, I say to your point too about Pepper Spread.
I was thinking similar along those lines, because early in
training CA it felt like he's the guy breaking the
huddles down. Yes, you know, he had an or about
him of leadership. Yeah, and then as I'm watching practice
and I'm like, how do you stay a leader like
that if all of a sudden you're not really getting
the bulk of the right.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
That's sort of what I'm getting at too, Like those
guys were voices in that locker room. They're both elected
captains at different points, and now they're going to be
very well paid backups.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I just I don't know if that's just trying to
figure out why they're backups. Yeah, and I still haven't
got anybody to tell me you rational, I have told you.
I know, I just don't agree.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
But I think we all said that they're going to
have to have you know, whether you whatever you want
to call them, but you're going to have us have
a strong safety, a big nickel, whatever you call it.
You're going to have to have one of those guys
who you're comfortable having him play close to the line,
having them comfortable being more in run support. You know,
maybe you don't need both, but you know, we would
(25:57):
talk about their kind of duplicative too, you know, Peppers
and Duggar, so you don't need both of them. But
I thought Peppers was the guy they decided that this
is the guy we're going to keep.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
I still feel like they are that is what they've decided.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
But now it's like we don't care, Well.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
He's playing a lot. That's just speculation theory. Don't put that.
Like again, don't get them in trouble for something they
have gone.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Right, No, not fair enough. But like again, I I
I'm a little confused.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Well, I think they wanted. They've played him a lot
at the nickel this summer and when they go through safety,
they played him a lot at the nickel. But I
don't know if he has the man coverage skills to
play the nickel at a high volume where if he's
on the tight end one on one, do you trust
your real peppers to cover the tight end one on one?
Speaker 6 (26:41):
I mean there was a rep No, I don't he
was on he was on digs. You know, like that's
the kind of matchups that you're going to have to
live with.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Yeah, right, and you know some of that like your
zone and stuff like that, but like it just they
want their safeties to cover ground, but they want them
to cover space. They want them to cover the deep
part of the field.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Okay, are we so are we getting away from having
that safety that plays up close to the line, because
I don't know. You tell me the safety that can
do both, that can is really good in coverage and
in run support.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Kyle Hamlet. Ye, yeah, no, No, that's why he's a
great player. But I've said my piece on this, I'll
move on.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Like you know, when in the old defense, you know,
Jabil Peppers used to talk about it all the time.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
I got the B gap.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
You don't got the B gap anymore, right, Like the
B gap is somebody else's responsibility. Now your responsibility as
a safety is to get the f back and that
that's just not their skill set, Like, that's just not
their strong suits.
Speaker 11 (27:38):
So the Browns kind of tried to play him, and
then he was as a bust coming out of college
because they had right.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
So what I'm hearing from the ball noer is that,
you know, our defensive philosophy has changed so much that
this position that was a core part of the defense
in the past is not anymore.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
And I would say that like across the correct Yeah, okay,
But like a lot of this stuff on defense applies
to Anthony Jennings, and I think it applies a little
bit to Jelani Tavai too. Like those roles, those hybrid
roles that Belichick had were extremely specific to the defense
that Belichick was running. And so when you don't have
the Belichick defense anymore, Like, is there a role for
(28:19):
a edge setting run defender like Anthony Jennings? Well, when
setting the edge of the defense was number one on
the list for the head coach in the front seven,
it mattered. But when you want to fly up the
field and you want to penetrate the line of scrimmage
and that's the goal of the defense, now that's not
what matters as much anymore. So I just think it's
a different scheme and it's changing. And now Woodson Hawkins
(28:42):
like those guys are more rangey, they can cover more
ground back there. I think they just like what they
see in those two players.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Okay, all right, so as promised, we want to get
a deep dive into these new rivalry uniforms. So what
we're going to do, We're going to take a quick break,
come back. We will get our hands on this stuff
and go over all the details, not just of the
stuff the players are gonna be wearing, but also some
of the sidelines swag that people can buy starting September tenth,
(29:13):
I believe. So let's take that quick break. I know
at one o'clock deuce and even have to go because
it's open locker room. So Paul, how you go into
a locker room too, Alex. So the three of us
will stay weeks about we can continue the roster talk
and everything else, but let's take that break and when
we come back, we're gonna talk rivalry uniforms Here In

Speaker 1 (33:55):
We are back here on Patriots Son Feltered and as promised,
we have the first hands on look at the new
Rivalries line of clothing that the Patriots will have for
the game against the Jets this year. The NFL announced
today Rivalries line of clothing for eight teams. More teams
will be coming in other years, but this year eight
(34:17):
teams will be wearing Rivalries line of clothing. The Patriots
launched theirs today. So let's get going. So right here
we have Deuce and to me, this is the best
part of the whole thing is the helmet. I've been
calling for the white helmet with the new logo for
for many years now, and this is it. It's a
Matt white finish with the color of the same color
(34:41):
as the jersey. Now, the visor, any player can put
whatever a visor they Well, we were thinking it would
be really cool if a player had like a red
metallic tinted visor to go with the red metallic on
the Patriots. That would be cool.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
So take thanks, deep dive absolute.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Once you take it off due and so we can
look at the back of the helmet and I'm not
gonna sit there with the helmet, would Yeah, So let's
turn it around. You can see it's got the New
England on the back again with the red metallic tint
It's a Matt white finish. So I think, I think
this is really cool. Yeah, the helmet's really cool. This
is what Deuce is wearing. Is more of the jersey
(35:24):
you'd buy in the pro shop. Yeah yeah, but it's yeah, sure,
he's so excited, Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 12 (35:42):
Where get girl?
Speaker 3 (35:43):
All right?
Speaker 12 (35:44):
Some of the symbolism on the jersey.
Speaker 11 (35:46):
Yeah, we have the six stars on the uniform, representing
the six New England states.
Speaker 12 (35:52):
A New n E.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Shoulder, your camera, look at this camera.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
You gotta okay, it's your first time in television.
Speaker 11 (36:02):
You were a Hollywood any shoulder go Inspired by the
nautical lettering and compass points, underscoring the unique nature of
the Patriots as the only team to represent an entire region.
Jersey numbers pull in their vertical striping and mesh like
design from the iconic nineteen nineties Patriots uniform, evoking memories
(36:23):
of Bledsoe era battles. Oh It's for you so Deuce
unfortunately doesn't have the pants, but the shoulder and pant
stripes carry a subtle netting pattern homage homage to the
working harbors that define the New England coast. Matt White
helmet reminds us of snow, metallic silver face mask reminds
(36:46):
us of icy cold that defines the region's winters, and
then small pops of red quiet connection back to the
team's traditional color palette, and inside every collar a reminder
that through every storm, we are all Patriots.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
So this is the actual game jersey. This is Marcus
Jones jersey. And you can see it's got the the
the red stars. I don't know if we can zoom
in on that. Yeah, there you go the red stars,
which camera okay right here, and you can see the
netting on the stripes a little better here, and a
(37:22):
little bit of the contour of the numbers with the holes,
so it's it's cool. Then you get the we are
all Patriots up in the neck line.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Here's the back and tonight.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
I really do like the numbers in the font. Yeah,
and I thought the texture you can't really tell that
on like a graphic. It's nice.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Yeah, and you're not gonna be able to tell that
on TV when they're far away, but like you know,
wearing this around now you can see the detail of
it all. I think it's really cool. I like it,
and you know, we'll get into some of your reactions.
It's you know, obviously everyone has a very personal take
on all this stuff. But the other thing beyond the
(38:04):
jersey that we see in the helmet are some of
the sideline gear. So Evan, I particularly like what you're wearing. Yeah,
that put the hands in the This is zippered up.
It's not it's not a varsity jacket, but yeah, a
little bit, but but it's it's it's very cool fall spring.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
I really like Paul's hoodie too.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (38:27):
I like this.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Stand up, yeah, stand up, you get the hoodie crowd
and then turn around.
Speaker 17 (38:39):
Yeah, this on the hood is we are all patriots
on the on the on the hood yeah, turn around, wow,
so you can see that we are all patriots of them.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
And then, Alex, what would you consider what would you
call the fabric of that? This is a windbreaker, a windbreaker,
but it's a it's a performance type of fabric.
Speaker 12 (39:02):
It's definitely a dry fit fabric windbreaker.
Speaker 11 (39:05):
Really nice. I don't know how waterproof it will be.
It seems like it's waterproof. This is probably my favorite thing.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Quarters that's that's a similar hoodie is the one I
have on?
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Do you have the oh no.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Oh yeah, so Paul so on Paul's hoodie.
Speaker 18 (39:23):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
There's also a metal zipper.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
Which is cool up, nothing gonna fall out of that.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
There's another piece right here. This is a long sleeve,
a long sleeve you know, performance tea with the back
patriots Yeah stuff.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
We got here.
Speaker 6 (39:49):
This is just like my dad would come home from Reebok.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
You know that you probably got to keep.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
Yeah, it is the best.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
This this is I'm disappointed that Alex didn't try this one.
Speaker 12 (40:02):
That was my backup windbreaker.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
This is sort of a half half cut to cross,
so for those of you with a crew.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Neck, I couldn't wear that.
Speaker 12 (40:14):
It's just can you see it or not?
Speaker 1 (40:20):
And again this this is the style of jersey that
Deuce is wearing. This is the this is gonzo.
Speaker 12 (40:26):
One instead of a this.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Is a large. That's the one.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
That's a large.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Yeah, he wants an.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Already called already order.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
He wants one gonzo for his son Jackson does, so
does everybody else.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
So that's all the stuff. I think it's pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Yeah, yeah, I really like Well, First of all, the
helmet is just I think I can't even look at
it for too long. It just makes it dang. The
helmet is great. The matt is really cool. We've all
been clamoring for the white helmets, so to get a
white helmet.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
The new logo on.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
It is great, and I really do like the any
I think, you know, the elvis is obviously the elvis,
but have a little bit of a different logo to
throw out there every once in a while.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
I like it on the shoulders that do on the
jersey as well. So those are my two favorite parts
of the jersey.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Okay.
Speaker 11 (41:17):
I love the pops of red, like especially on the helmet,
the metallic red. It's it's subtle, but it's it just
goes really well with the color palette.
Speaker 12 (41:25):
I don't know. I love this blue too. I think
it's just really flattering on everyone.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Yeah, you know, so like I heard a lot of
people say, oh, you should have had the Royal blue,
or you should have had red or this. They've got
red for the throwback, and you know they're down the
road though. I'm sure there'll be other alternates, so there's
still time to have a red jersey. But I like
having something really different than what you've got or have
(41:49):
had in the past. And I'm I'm not one of
those preeople that like like the real flashy colors. To me,
that's amateurish x fellas. I like like traditional, like just
really clean cut in uh modest type of colors or
pro uniform.
Speaker 11 (42:10):
I think this color is just perfect New England, just
like I look at Paul's hoodie, and I think you
could walk into coffees on the Cape and find like
a nice washed blue color like that.
Speaker 12 (42:19):
This says like cape Cod across, except.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
It's just.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Subt It does have a little cape Cod feel to it,
like the wash washed.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
So then they get the nail on the.
Speaker 4 (42:31):
Head because I feel like, you know, there's like places
you walk into that have these like the whites and
the blues, and the Cape is very popular and so yeah,
I like the color. It's hard to kind of tell
just with pictures on social media what the color looks.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
I didn't really know what they looked like until I
came in and saw the box.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
Yeah, it was tough.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
It didn't Yeah, I don't know if it was something.
Speaker 12 (42:53):
About the way the dark fishing boat.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Yeah, it just didn't really doesn't eyes.
Speaker 12 (42:58):
It's a great color. It's a flattering color on everyone.
Speaker 11 (43:01):
Like Evan and I were looking at the pictures of
Gonzo in it, and then.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
Paul like that hoodie is awesome. That's a that's a
need to purchase hoodie right there.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
The tanne will be gone very very soon, that's the problem.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
So so note to Patriots Administration. All employees would like
the hoodie.
Speaker 12 (43:22):
I want this, thank you for I want this in the.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Crop if I could get a large one.
Speaker 12 (43:26):
Do we have to return these two? Can I just
give him my credit card and.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Just well, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
I'm just going back to my office.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
And unfortunately these are just the only ones they have.
But I'm told yes, September tenth and September tenth is
when this stuff will be available in the Patriots Pro
shop and I'm assuming fanatics.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Andy listening September tenth.
Speaker 5 (43:47):
Yeah, he's always listening.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
Yeah. Cool. So I haven't got any other texts that
I said anything wrong, So so that's good. So so
that's it. That's that's the new Rivalries release by the
NFL in for the Patriots. So very cool.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
What my son chimed in from from South Carolina. Yeah,
from the they mad tough, They.
Speaker 5 (44:09):
Mad tough, They mad tough.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
Okay, yeah, he likes them.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
I thought you mentioned that they're using him. They're wearing
them against the Jets, right, yeah. Are they also wearing
them against Buffalo?
Speaker 1 (44:20):
No?
Speaker 3 (44:20):
No, their against Buffalo? Where's there?
Speaker 14 (44:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (44:25):
Just one game uh this year for the Patriots for
this year.
Speaker 11 (44:29):
Cool if we were them against Buffalo too, because I
think US and Buffalo have two of the cooler.
Speaker 1 (44:33):
Yeah, I think all white against this would look Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
Not a lot to say that.
Speaker 6 (44:40):
No, you can say, well, I mean there was eight
total uniforms. I think it was four of them were
basically all black.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
The Jets and Miamis.
Speaker 6 (44:49):
And the Seahawks was kind of white, the Bills was
kind of white. And the Cardinals and the Patriots were
the two different ones. They felt like the Cardinals did
kind of a sand color and the Patriots did something
totally out of their out of you know, there's no
new uniform completely. I felt like some of those other
ones though, with the forty nine ers and they all
seem like you just took your uniform made of black,
which I've seen that before.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
The uh, Cardinals Desert ones are cool.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
Yeah, I kind of disrespect that it was a little different.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Yeah, it was cool. Agreed.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Yeah, JJ Wattson we were in the top two for him. Uh,
des Portnoy loved him.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Oh there's a shock. Yeah he's on board.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Yeah, he's on board.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Yeah, but this type of didn't expect to win him over.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
The sideline gear, like the stuff we're wearing is more
important in my mind. Than the jersey for fans, because like,
I feel like this is the type of stuff that
you want a fan less. So like the actual game,
Megan O'Brien would not know. Yeah, so like that, you
know these are these are.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
It's not that she didn't like the jerseys to wear jerseys,
but she doesn't like world jerseys with someone else's name.
Speaker 12 (45:54):
I'm with her. Yeah, I think it's really weird. I'm
your own sentence. I don't want to.
Speaker 11 (46:01):
If I were a man, I would not want another
man's name on my back.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
I just think that when you get a little older,
it's a little different. Maybe when you're already a twenties
even we'll give it a little bit of a stretch.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
So you know, I think it depends, but I think
it depends on who you're wearing what jersey, because like
if you're wearing, you know, like a Tom Brady jersey,
or you know, if you're going to a Celtics game
and you're wearing a Bird jersey or a Puerce jersey,
like those are like legends of the franchise. If you're
one of those people that goes in and buys like
a new jersey every year and it's like somebody on
(46:39):
the current team. I kind of hear what you guys
are saying.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Yeah, I even look at it. I've given this some
thought because because of Megan, because we had huge shows
about this. Yeah, I would even say I would be
a little bit more lenient with football, Like, no matter
how old you are, you show up to stadium with
a jersey, you get Drake may shirt on or whatever,
(47:03):
like can I can?
Speaker 1 (47:05):
I can?
Speaker 3 (47:05):
I can? Look the basketball jersey never ceases to amaze.
Speaker 4 (47:09):
You have a tank top, right, we have a shirt
underneath it.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Yeah, I know, and it looks ridiculous.
Speaker 12 (47:14):
That might look worse.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
On grown men, like Thinkneil. I've never seen anyone pull
it off and look even remotely normal. That's different.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
It's clowned.
Speaker 12 (47:25):
It's a college thing. College.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
They look so ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (47:29):
I'm going to run.
Speaker 6 (47:29):
The locker room is opening a little early, so I'll
be back.
Speaker 3 (47:32):
Just like would actually put the helmet under your arm,
double dog take off, that would be That would be
mad tough bro.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
All right, So Evan and Duce are going to go
to the locker room.
Speaker 12 (47:43):
Just walks up here, Andre, all right.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
So that's it. BB in New Hampshire right said, thank
you so much for this, love the color, love the style,
pleasantly surprised more Mike fashion shows please.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
This Mike really embraced it. It was kind of embarrassing.
You should have heard him before that show, how excited
he was.
Speaker 11 (48:01):
We were looking at a licensing requirements for some music
to give them like a Runway song, but didn't want
to get in trouble.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Yeah, not everyone loves it. Henry in Sunny Yorkshire, UK,
The Rivalry jerseys are awful. Maybe I'm missing the point,
but can someone explain the color scheme? Is it historical?
Is it a local New England thing? The jersey itself
is fine, but it looks like it belongs in Carolina,
not Boston. Well, you know it's I think they went
for like bad weather. You know they're looking for England.
(48:31):
It's called I think northeaster is what they're calling it,
and that's bad weather. So when you think I think
of bad weather in New England, I think of great
clouds and choppy, stormy, choppy seas which are darker, and
so I think this resembles. Yeah, it's not supposed to
be historical, it's it's it's to symbolize sort of the
(48:53):
rugged weather of New England. So, like I said, everyone
has their you know, their own everybody.
Speaker 12 (49:00):
Very New England.
Speaker 11 (49:01):
Though, like I said, I think if you walked into Cuffe's,
they probably have a huge just like this, and it's
probably their most sold color palette.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
Yeah, Justin says, I'm not over the moon about the
new uniforms, but I don't dislike them personally. I just
need to see them in action to see how I
like to look during the game. If they win in them,
you'll love them, right.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
I will say this though, And I understand where some
people are coming from with the color palette because I
don't think it shows up. I think you're gonna need
to see it. Yeah, because I didn't get it. I
actually I thought there was something wrong with my computer.
I went and I watched it on Alix Starker.
Speaker 11 (49:34):
Yes, and it was the cinematic you know, detailing of
the video shoot. But you're right, like in the video,
I didn't even realize that navy was kind of one
of the accent colors.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
It looked very black and white to me on the
pictures and videos that I saw, but in.
Speaker 12 (49:49):
Person, knowing it's Navy.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
I agree with Alex's description, and I don't know the place.
I'm sorry, Alex, I can't give them. I can't give
them a plug like you have several times today. But
I agree with Alex. This is a color I've seen
a lot in and around New England. Yeah, this color
is I think, very common around New England. So I
understand what they were going for.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
And even like you know, like we talked about when
we showed it, the detail of the numbers, you know,
with the little perforation. You don't get that sometimes from
a distance, but when you're looking at it close, or
if you're just wearing it on the street, you'll see that.
And I think it's really cool. It really makes the
numbers pop for me.
Speaker 12 (50:29):
Me too. And the fish Netting homage detail, Yeah, I
like it a lot more than.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Yeah. I wonder if I'll have I don't know. I
don't know if they'll have polos, So I don't know
if this is the full line. Maybe somebody can text
to tell us if there's going to be more sideline
stuff than we're showing. But the play a lot of
this stuff that you're seeing. The players will be wearing
it on the sideline so good. You know, T shirt
(51:00):
I could use. I don't like long sleeved T shirts,
so I could use a short sleeve T shirt. Yeah,
I don't know. I just roll them up anyway. I
don't wear them long. And then wondering if what what's
the other thing?
Speaker 8 (51:15):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (51:16):
Caps, like if they'll have any caps?
Speaker 3 (51:18):
I'm sure I'm sure they will. Yeah, yep, and regular
ball caps.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
Ball caps, ball caps, like Steve would say.
Speaker 3 (51:29):
The ball head ball coach.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Yep. All right, let's see Mike and the o C.
I love to get the panels grades of the Patriots, right,
I give it an A Mike and the OC gives
it at Mike and the OC gives it an a minus.
It's a very unique blue. I agree, it's unique. And
(51:52):
I love the white helmets and newted logo. The new
England logo on the shoulder is fine. I could take
it or leave it, which we could see them in
more than one game this year. Uh so yes.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Also with the helmet, as you you all are, no,
why not, it kind of looks a little like the Titans.
Speaker 1 (52:09):
Helmet because of the color blue.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Well, the white with the blue logo on it. Yeah,
it kind of reminds me of the Titans helmet. Sure,
I don't hate it or anything.
Speaker 11 (52:19):
Yeah, imagine it with just a sick visor though, like
Fred was saying, metallic red.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
Give me that visor, not a huge that would be sick.
T u f F that would be fire.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
And that reminds me of Terry Glenn. And it's just
like bad Paul.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
That would go hard. That's that's what they say, that
that goes hard. Linda wants to know. Does Alex's fit
have anything on the back?
Speaker 12 (52:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
No, just playing. No, no, no, nope, no, uh, she said,
it's it's been a desire of mind to have front
and back Patriots identifiers.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
Well, so most of the stuff does have stuff on
the back. I've seen, not just the hook the hoodie
has I think that we are Patriots on it, and
we are all Patriots. But but some of the shirts
have like a Patriots logo on the Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
So Paul's hood has the metal zipper. This this hoodie
doesn't have the zipper. So this is if you don't
want the zipper, and it says Patriots on the front
and there's nothing on the hood.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
I like this one better than that.
Speaker 1 (53:28):
So this is more plain.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
But even that long sleeve tea you Harry that was
gray has something on the back.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Of this hoodie.
Speaker 17 (53:35):
Yeah, that one that this has the full Patriots in
the back looking for Yeah, so this one does.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
Have Patriots in the back. So if you're looking for
a hoodie, this has that we are patriots, all patriots.
We are all Patriots on the hood and it's got
the Patriots on the back and then the any on
the sleeve and the and the metal zipper.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
So runs the gamut a little bit.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Everything. This is the full gamut.
Speaker 11 (54:04):
I had it as like a b in seeing it
on the screen and in the graphics, and then in
person A.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Yeah, definitely, I can better in person than I thought.
So okay, I think people will be happy when they
see them.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
Yep. On the field, Adam says, I really like the
jerseys except for the spots and the numbers. I like
the spots and the numbers. Jerseys have actual style to
them compared to our very boring normal jerseys. I think
we probably have the second best rivalry uniforms behind the
forty nine ers. The number font on theirs is amazing,
(54:43):
so I didn't see that. I have to look closer at.
Speaker 12 (54:44):
That you said they did black ones too, or that.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
I kind of like Miami's color combo.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
The only one I saw I.
Speaker 12 (54:53):
Think was I like it.
Speaker 11 (54:55):
However, I know pink isn't one of their colors, and
that's more of like a Miami thing to do the
vice colors. But I just it'd be so cool to
see like hot pink on a football uniform.
Speaker 12 (55:06):
Selfishly, yeah, I would would have loved to see you.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
You would have hoped they used that. I would have Yeah,
that would have been cool. Shane and Springfield he thinks
it stinks. Seems like they can't make up their mind
between Vrabels, Titans or maze U and c. If they
didn't want to lean into the bledstell blues that fans want,
they should have gone all full Americana and done stars
and stripes as a Patriots would have done numbers for
(55:30):
the fourth parties. I don't know what that means, okay anyway, Yeah,
it's like everybody has their own take. But like Paul said,
you gotta see it.
Speaker 12 (55:40):
This is very different than Carolina blue.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
Yeah, absolutely, Carolina blue is more baby blue.
Speaker 11 (55:47):
Yeah, this is a beautiful deep like grayish. I don't like,
I want to get a paint swatch and paint addresser.
Speaker 12 (55:54):
I have this color. To be honest, I'm inspired.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Yeah, I actually have a dress of this color.
Speaker 12 (55:59):
Really yeah, send it to a picture for me for instill.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
So good stuff. Let's get to some of the phone calls.
Eight five to five PATS five hundred is the hot line.
Let's see Jake and Wisconsin's been holding on. What's up, Jake?
Speaker 11 (56:15):
Hey, how you.
Speaker 19 (56:16):
Guys doing good?
Speaker 7 (56:19):
Of course, the one time I'm not watching YouTube and
I'm sitting on the hold of you guys do a
fashion show. But ah, I was listening to the show
yesterday and you guys are talking about the wide receiver
room and how we're a little more comfortable with it,
and I was thinking about if we've had one of
the worst wide receiver rooms, if not the worst for
a while.
Speaker 20 (56:39):
I thought, well, we're feeling a lot better now, and
the bills are pretty good parentally, but they don't have
stunning bills wide receivers. So I looked at the depth
chart and you guys are telling me if I'm biased
or fair in these assumptions, so prefer Patriots receivers over
the bills.
Speaker 7 (56:54):
Bias are fair.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
I'm sorry, Quill's wide receiver room for us the Patriots
wide receiver room. Which one do you think is a
little stronger? It depends on Diggs. If Diggs comes out and.
Speaker 3 (57:07):
He's yeah, I don't think the Bills have a very
strong wide receiver room, right, So I think they're similar. Yeah,
I think neither one of them is very good.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
But but if mac Hollins.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
Kharil Shakira is probably the best receiver the Bills have,
they don't have a great receiver room. Yeah, yeah, but
the Patriots don't either. But well, I think they're similar.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Great is subjective, but it could be good.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
You don't so if if Diggs plays like Diggs, that's
the last three years, yeah, thousand yards, thousand yard receiver.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
The best they could be is okay? Good? Why because
that's just good?
Speaker 1 (57:45):
And then Holland's is an upgrade over something they didn't
have last year, right.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
I don't know. I was here last year, Fred, like they,
I understand what you're getting.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
I think there's potential here for the wide receiver room. Now.
The thing about the Bills is we've seen it last year.
We can Yeah, we can judge the Bills better then
we can judge the Patriots because we haven't seen it yet.
We haven't seen it with McDaniels, so we don't really
know how good this wide receiver room is. But I
think on paper it's better than it was last year.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
I agree with that.
Speaker 12 (58:21):
And how good will Drake make them look?
Speaker 1 (58:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (58:23):
And how good will Drake be we you know, I
think I agree with Fred Diggs makes them better than last.
Speaker 21 (58:29):
Year Patriots running backs versus Bills running backs, and same
with tight end.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
I would say the Bills are better and running back
and tight end. I really like James Cook a lot.
I think James Cook is really good, and I think
Dalton kin kate is is really good.
Speaker 21 (58:47):
I just looking after James Cook gets Ray Davis and.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
He's a really solid backup who had a good year
for them last year. Yeah, I think they're good.
Speaker 21 (58:56):
So if we compare those three skill positions and stay
they're fairly similar.
Speaker 3 (59:01):
I would agree with that.
Speaker 21 (59:02):
Next step. What's the next step to get us to
be able to be division contenders?
Speaker 3 (59:07):
Drake May?
Speaker 21 (59:09):
I was going to say, aside from Drake May becoming
Josh Allen, Okay.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
The defense getting better, No, Drake may like because but
what I'm saying is, I don't think the Bill's rece
corps is very good. Josh Allen may have had his
best year of his career last year with a with
a not very good receiving corpse, So why is that?
Speaker 1 (59:29):
Because he's great?
Speaker 12 (59:30):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (59:32):
Correct, So that's what you need to do. So I
agree with that. I'm one hundred percent on board with
the caller. I know most people probably expect that I'm
going to push back. I agree with him. I think
the tight end situation, I would give the Bills the edge.
The running back situation. I think the running back room
for the Patriots is probably the strongest position they have,
those three guys. So you want to give the edge
(59:53):
of the Patriots and running backs, Okay, you want to
give the edge of the wide receivers for the Patriots. Okay,
tight ends, I would say it's edge to the Bills.
But it doesn't matter, right, None of that matters.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
It's the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Because the gap between quarterbacks is so enormous you can't
even quantify it. If Drake May gets better, that's when
you start to have a good offense.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:00:16):
Now I'm I'm leaving out, which is also a huge difference.
The Bill's offensive line is pretty good. Yeah, Patriots isn't.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Yep, that's a big one. That's a big one. Christian
in La. What's up? Christian?
Speaker 9 (01:00:31):
Hey you guys here?
Speaker 22 (01:00:32):
You guys have the Thursday team?
Speaker 18 (01:00:34):
Yep, quickly.
Speaker 22 (01:00:36):
I think it's Laden Robinson that when I heard you
guys day was turning on to be an intensive wing
guard for us. He got hurt and they just kind
of instead of reserve as a little being confused as that.
But my real question.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
Is Layden Robinson was never a threat to be on
the roster this year. He was with the third team.
He was with the third team pretty much every day,
all right?
Speaker 23 (01:00:59):
That some of those that you guys were talking about,
that's that's potential good swing guard for us.
Speaker 22 (01:01:04):
I'm sorry, I don't remember his name, but.
Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 22 (01:01:10):
Welcome to David now at the number two cornerback positions.
Speaker 23 (01:01:14):
Are you guys expecting Donslow to take the leap up
to shut down corner?
Speaker 22 (01:01:20):
That's one and then.
Speaker 23 (01:01:21):
Two, we've been talking about players coming to New England
next year.
Speaker 18 (01:01:26):
I have to we do a little better this year.
Speaker 22 (01:01:28):
But in today's landscape.
Speaker 23 (01:01:30):
Where superstar receivers potentially are trying to simultaneously build their
off steel brands.
Speaker 22 (01:01:38):
Do you think Rabel is the coming const that would
allow the open stuff that have to happen booths on.
Speaker 23 (01:01:44):
You know, feel for one of those star players, you
want to come here and still develop their brand be.
Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
One of two questions, don't I don't think a lot
of that. I don't think. I don't think that stuff
is overly important. I think if Drake may becomes what
we were hoping for him to become, and wide receivers
looking they say I can I can catch you one
hundred balls for fifteen hundred yards there, they'll come and
they'll take the contract. Now, the contract is the first
and foremost, but anybody who is let's say, let's say
(01:02:15):
you take that face value. The Chris god One thing
Pages did offer him more money from Tampa. Well, he's
not going to take it because he's not sure exactly
what the passing game is going to look like in
New England. He's not turning it down in New England
because of brand or something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
No, he was saying that these players want to have
their own brand and is able to type of coach
to allow a player do his brand have no idea.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
But I don't think that that's that important to these guys,
that they're making their decisions based on where I can
be me.
Speaker 18 (01:02:44):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
But what he's saying is would Rabel bring in a
guy who wants to do that? Of course he.
Speaker 11 (01:02:48):
Wont in Europe walking in fashion shows this offseason and
it didn't seem Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
I mean this is the modern NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
It will seem to be a problem.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
I mean, these guys just starting their own brands in
college now with the nil so I just feel you
got to get with that program.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
If you give him the money and they think that
they can succeed, they can thrive. I you know the
wide receivers where a diva comes in is they want
to be the man. They want to be number the
number one guy. They want to get the targets. That's
what the worry about Digs right now is will he
be okay if he's just part of the you know,
(01:03:26):
a cog in the machine. Does he have to be
the guy? And there was some line of thought that
last year in Houston he was okay because he looked
over and he saw Nico Collins who was clearly the
number one and said, Okay, he's worthy. The pages don't
have that. So that's that to me is those are
the Christian Those are the overriding factors to me. Can
(01:03:46):
I succeed? Can I thrive and be be the the
alpha like Alex said? And do I get the money?
Those are the two things that are important. The rest
of that stuff comes with those things.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
I wouldn't worry about Vrabel not wanting that type of player.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
I really don't know.
Speaker 24 (01:04:02):
If you're a coach, as long as it's not a distraction,
why wouldn't you Guys you want your guys to make
as much money off the field as possible, then maybe
they help give you leeway when you're constructing.
Speaker 12 (01:04:15):
They're making so much off the field.
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
As long as that it's affecting their player practice, yeah
or the other. You know, like it's fine, but that's
the way it is these days. Yeah, you know, it's.
Speaker 12 (01:04:26):
N I L is only going to make it worse,
not worse, but it's going to.
Speaker 11 (01:04:32):
Like these kids are coming into the NFL hundreds of
thousands of followers, they're already businesses in and of themselves,
you know, and it's just going to continue.
Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
And the whole thing about Gonzo stepping up to be
a shutdown corner.
Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Yeah, I mean I thought he had already.
Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
I thought I thought that's what he was.
Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
He was a second team All Pro last year, right,
you know, is he the best corner in football?
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
But you know he's in the conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Yeah, and yeah, he's got potential to be.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
I say he's I mean, at worst he top five
or six.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 25 (01:05:02):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
Another person in l A. Nelson? What's up? Nelson?
Speaker 25 (01:05:06):
Hey?
Speaker 23 (01:05:07):
I was doing today?
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Man, good man.
Speaker 9 (01:05:09):
That uniform is dripping all right?
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
What do you like about it?
Speaker 9 (01:05:14):
Out of everything?
Speaker 22 (01:05:15):
The whole color everybody's complaining about.
Speaker 20 (01:05:17):
I don't know how I'll be complaining you acting like girls,
I don't know what you like.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
That's disrespectful, Yeah, because you'll be saying they be saying, oh,
we want you stuff, we want you when they bring
your boff don't thing about it stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
I know, I know. It's it's so hard no matter
what you do.
Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
You think the same.
Speaker 5 (01:05:34):
Yeah, damn if you do.
Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
If you don't, you know, fashion is very very subjective.
Speaker 22 (01:05:39):
And uniform with that color this year tell yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Yeah, yeah, I just want to win in them. Yeah,
if you win the game in them, now we love them.
Speaker 25 (01:05:50):
So I want to do too.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Yeah, like like.
Speaker 11 (01:05:51):
The Red Sox yellow yellow, and they did not lose
games in those when they first rolled those out, you know,
and everyone was obsessed.
Speaker 12 (01:06:01):
It's bright yellow.
Speaker 11 (01:06:02):
Only a very small amount of the population can wear
bright yellow and have it be flattering. You know.
Speaker 12 (01:06:07):
People love them because they were winning in them, right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
I know a lot of people didn't like the Dynasty uniform.
They won a few games and those That's true, people
don't like them.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
It's very subjective fashion. So you're never going to come
out with something that everyone loves unless they're like Levi's
never It's true.
Speaker 11 (01:06:28):
That word from Nelson to your your rolodex dripping.
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Yeah, Paul dripped before you were even born. I mean
fair enough.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
He's not lying. I used to I used to dress. Yeah,
that's that's a different Italian horn. Now that's a different
kind of drip to.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
You, still, the horne of fertility.
Speaker 12 (01:06:52):
I don't even wear a chain anymore of Italian? Are you?
Speaker 25 (01:06:55):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
Evidently a bad one? No one calls me cutlets.
Speaker 12 (01:06:58):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
You gotta make fun of people because they're Italian.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Dollar oil voice get a jump.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
Like if we just signed like an Irish guy we
call him like, you know, Jimmy Guinness. Like, I just
don't understand why it's okay.
Speaker 12 (01:07:18):
I thought we were being positive about the Italians.
Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
I don't think so. I don't think so what are
you doing?
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Kyle says, he wants me to turn the helmets?
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
I was like, what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
There?
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
You go, Kyle, Freddy took care of you front and center.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
For you. It's hard to see even now, you know,
because of the lighting and everything in the glare. But
it's it's sweet. It's sweet. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
What was somewhat disappointing about the roster cutdown this year?
Was there anything that was really even a remote surprise,
not something like huh, I didn't see that one coming.
It was nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
No, I think if this if Cole Strange had been
cut last year, that would have been a surprise, you know,
before the injury obviously, but now we've been sort of
conditioned to think like this is coming.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
He was coming off. He had been injured going into
last year.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Yeah, so you.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Didn't get hurt last year. He got hurt two years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:08:20):
It was two years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
I thought it was before we played like a handful
of games because of the injury from.
Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
The previous I thought he got a hurt in training camp.
Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
No, he tour his ruptured patella tendon in twenty three
and only played like maybe four games and twenty four
as a result of that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
Okay, I thought it was Remember in training camp, we
were going blow by plow with what happened with Cold
Strange in the training shed and all that. Remember I
was going over that. You don't remember me doing.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
That, not with Cold Strange because it wasn't that training camp.
He was on like pup the whole year.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
What am I thinking?
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
Remember, don't you remember we're sitting up where we sit
in the ramp, and I'm like, okay, now they're looking
if that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
I don't sit up in the ramp with you. That's
for your your boys, Okay, I sit down in the
hill when you guys make fun of.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Him because I was going blow by blow with Cold
Strange and his injury.
Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
He was trying a training camp last year he got
hurt in twenty three.
Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Maybe it was mini camp. Yeah, I need Deuce with
Deuce come back. I need Deuce because I I did
do that. Chester's in Portland. What's up Chester?
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Pull strange a serious torn pateel attendant and his left
knee in late twenty twenty three.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
What's up Chester?
Speaker 18 (01:09:42):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
Guys?
Speaker 26 (01:09:43):
Hey, great Joes. There's the three of you guys make
a great three. Oh you know, it's a great combination
of young, old and older and really good stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:09:53):
I see what you did there.
Speaker 26 (01:09:54):
I think, by the way, on reaching your final week
before three Joes, We're looking forward to more of you, guys.
I had to time in today on this new Jersey
apparel combo. To me, they look shy up friends. When
I when I saw him the first time on social media,
I kind of got lions cold sides, and you know,
they kind of got that feeling. But I love the
white helmets and I'm glad you guys showed them in
(01:10:15):
the studio because they look better. I don't know if
it's just like TV or what, but they look a
little more gray but really sharp and and I'm really
starting to see some new spirals out there and to
get to that pro job, I just want to say too,
if anybody doesn't like them, like, we've got what three
other spyles to choose from. So you know, get after
what you want to me. Next week we aim our
(01:10:37):
sides on a new attitude, and you know, time for
us fans to get out there do our job. Get
to the pro shop on September ten and buy some
apparel over and out.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Let's go, Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:10:54):
He's toning it down, Alex. He used to really, he
used to really really rile up the fan base.
Speaker 12 (01:10:58):
With the would have a whole on a ready vintage tape. Chester.
Send your photo in for the next round.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Of guests that list. I think he did already, didn't he?
Speaker 12 (01:11:07):
Maybe yeah, do it again?
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
Okay?
Speaker 27 (01:11:10):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
Dante is in Newark, Delaware, Newark, Newark, Newark, Delaware, Newark.
What's up, Dante, Newark, New Jersey. Turn it up?
Speaker 19 (01:11:20):
Newark is New Jersey, Newark is Delaware.
Speaker 12 (01:11:23):
Wow, good to know.
Speaker 25 (01:11:26):
Yeah, So just my quest culture and.
Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
Take sure it's running back room.
Speaker 19 (01:11:29):
Obviously we're gonna be running back by committee with not
three really good running backs. But do you guys eventually
see Traveon Henderson taking that leap forward to becoming like
an all downs back for us, because obviously he's got
a lot of bag play protection.
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Yeah, I saw who's a Dan Gratziano that his name.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Yeah, he predicted a person.
Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
He did predict today that eventually he'd be the lead back.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
I do not believe that that will be the case.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Yeah, Now do you think it will happen this season?
Speaker 3 (01:11:59):
I don't think it'll ever be the case. I don't
think he's built for it. I think he's too small.
But it's it has happened. There's no question he has
the biggest, the big play potential. There's nobody's. The other
two aren't close to him. He has an electricity about him,
no doubt about it. I think he would lose some
(01:12:20):
of that the higher his workload would would get. I
would worry about that. Yep. I think if you ask
him to carry the ball two hundred and fifty times
between the tackles, he would wear down and probably get injured.
But if you give him, you know, maybe ten or
fifteen touches per game, get him out in space on screens,
maybe some some you know, crack toss sweeps and whatnot.
(01:12:43):
I think he'd be effective in that role and give
you the chance for some big plays. I think he's
the best, the best possible big play guy. They have
best potential big player goes.
Speaker 22 (01:12:56):
With like mcdaigel's offense.
Speaker 7 (01:12:58):
I mean, James White, he played really great.
Speaker 19 (01:13:01):
For US managers receiving back right, But obviously.
Speaker 7 (01:13:06):
Treon has more than that.
Speaker 19 (01:13:08):
He has much more talent than White did have.
Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
Any I disagree with that strongly. I strongly disagree. I
think it's very disrespectful to James White. This is the
James White had a better college career than Trevon Henderson did.
Speaker 19 (01:13:23):
Yeah, but I mean, like as far as like lion
might like you know, championship games and you know.
Speaker 28 (01:13:29):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 19 (01:13:30):
He's pored a lot of touchdowns for Ohio State in
the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
Okay, James White scored a lot of touchdowns for the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
So I'm just gonna say, I want to say one
thing Henderson I said. I don't think he'll ever be that.
That's just my view right now. Thanks to he's very
similar in size to Jamiir Gibbs, and Gibbs has sort
of continued to increase that role as he's gone on,
so he could. I'm not going to dismiss the possibility
(01:13:58):
that he because I think Gibbs his kind of supplanted
Montgomery as the number one guy for Detroit. That's what
you're looking for from Henderson is Jamiir Gibbs, right, Okay,
a guy who can ca Oh absolutely, I can take
it and run. I mean to me, it gives her
in for like fourteen hundred yards l and I just
looked up gives his size and he's not there. I mean,
he's like five nine, five ten. He's kind of similar
(01:14:19):
in size two hundred pounds yep to Henderson. So if
he did it, Henderson could do it too. But I
just James James White in college, and that's all we
can compare it to, right, because that's all Henderson's done.
But James White in college was nasty at Wisconsin. Oh,
(01:14:42):
I looked up the wrong thing. Continue, I'll get it
all right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:45):
Well, anyway, we'll talk about that after the break when we.
Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
Come back making another break.

Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
There are moving parts too, but just curious how you
feel about roster.
Speaker 29 (01:16:54):
Well, I mean again, you're correct and saying that there
are some moving parts. I feel great about where we're at,
but will continue to look for ways to improve and
what we feel like from a personnel standpoint, but also
looking for ways to improve on the field. Today will
be an important day for us, just getting started here
(01:17:14):
with with the Raiders and and the show team process
and and all that and trying to get the looks
that we need to try to, you know, begin the
the game planning and practicing some of that stuff.
Speaker 25 (01:17:27):
Learning spots would be tough to saying that things really
target to try the good.
Speaker 29 (01:17:32):
No I mean, I don't think that you really set
out You just try to focus on, you know, adding
good players to you to your football team and whatever role.
Speaker 25 (01:17:42):
That you envision for them, and and kind of go
from there. And so.
Speaker 29 (01:17:46):
I feel like we've improved through training camp and then
need to continue to improve through this process of preparing
to win, and then also continuing to to target players,
whether that's you know today and you know the next
few days as players become available.
Speaker 28 (01:18:04):
Might understand that things are moving fast here and tell.
Speaker 29 (01:18:07):
Me the BEATO awarded on Weaving with disapoint Well again,
I think that we'll confirm all those things later on.
And know, we put a claim in for a couple
of guys, and I would say that just.
Speaker 25 (01:18:19):
Strengthening a roster, certainly at.
Speaker 29 (01:18:22):
A premium position, and you know, continuing to add pieces,
whether that's offensively or defensively, or guys that we feel
like can help us on special teams.
Speaker 25 (01:18:34):
How much would.
Speaker 8 (01:18:34):
Somebody think Ryan's insight be value with a player like
that and helping the left?
Speaker 25 (01:18:43):
What and insight? I'm just sorry, so Tommy Debido and
Ryan cal.
Speaker 29 (01:18:49):
Oh, yeah, yeah, I didn't know what you said after
the well, I mean We've had coaches and personnel people
throughout the league at different spots, you know, whether that
be me or Stretch or coaches or Ryan or anybody,
you know. I think that's just one part of the evaluation,
(01:19:11):
having some working knowledge of what the player has done
in the building, how are they day to day And
we can all watch the performance and see what it
looks like on the on the film, but the practice,
the habits, the how they are in the building and
how they prepare and and did they improve. I think
those are some some insights, whether it's this particular instance
(01:19:37):
or if it's just you know, somebody else that we're
trying to target. So I think that that can always help.
It wasn't the main factor in this decision. Yeah, And
again Josh has been settled down in the games, and
(01:19:59):
I think the there's been some mistakes, whether that was
joint practice or practice, and we're all going to have
mistakes and then being able to you know, settle down
in the games and perform and operate. And again, I
don't each move that will make may not being indication
(01:20:20):
of what the players are at that position. I think
it's just looking into strengthen the overall roster construction.
Speaker 25 (01:20:29):
How valuable and important as the practice squad.
Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
Will become as it's years.
Speaker 29 (01:20:34):
We were laughing the other day when it was fifty
three players and five guys on the practice squad and
we actually practiced and functioned, and now we have probably
will have seventy and we'll be wondering how we can
practice that many players. So what it's given you is
given you a good blend of of having some veterans
that may be able to go in right away and
(01:20:56):
be elevated, and also gives you an opportunity to develop
some younger players. What you'll see when that that list
comes out, so you'll be able to kind of recognize
both of those who you may need some more time
and want to invest some more time into them, or
a veteran that's played in this league and would be
ready to go if we needed to elevate them.
Speaker 6 (01:21:18):
Along those lines to make I wanted to ask them
bred Swinson just given.
Speaker 25 (01:21:21):
The drift status the fifth under with tip the camp, did.
Speaker 14 (01:21:24):
He have to see someone that will see on that practice.
Speaker 29 (01:21:26):
Squads again that'll be out at four and you know,
there's always tough decisions that we have to make. So
we have to do what's in the best interest to
the football team, and that's why you practice, and that
there's a competition and there's games to evaluate and see
how they respond. So you know that that practice squad
(01:21:48):
list will be out at four and it will continue
to you know, I think change over the course of
not only the next few days, but but probably the season.
You guys end at the point that the thicker our
curious to get your perspective on how that kicking competition
played out over.
Speaker 25 (01:22:05):
The summer meeting. So I thought it was competitive.
Speaker 29 (01:22:06):
I thought Parker really improved from the spring to the summer.
And I think just the entire body of work, we
we felt like Andy was going to be our kicker.
And again I appreciate Parker's competitiveness and how he worked, and.
Speaker 25 (01:22:24):
You know, I wish him well, and.
Speaker 29 (01:22:27):
You know, those are always difficult decisions, and again we
we're gonna We're gonna do everything we can to support Andy.
And then he knows he got to make him That's
that's a job of the kicker, you know, that's you
got to make him so and I expect that he will.
Speaker 25 (01:22:44):
Josh Jobs sett him down. Mobility pets for the game free,
it's very open.
Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
The other day, da let's get stumped.
Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
Up and getting used at the time of land up,
and I asked a bunch of strategies.
Speaker 22 (01:22:58):
That he can have from of the game.
Speaker 29 (01:23:00):
For since the passboats up, do you help them to
the strategy to send something come to whether it's a
flight back.
Speaker 25 (01:23:06):
Well, I mean, I think that you have to again,
you have to prepare.
Speaker 29 (01:23:10):
Each player prepares differently for that game and how you
what your emotion level is going into that game, and
how it starts, and you know, I think that there's
always something to be said for you know, getting into
a rhythm, you know, I mean, we can't throw a
bunch of two yard routes to start the game. But
I think that it's just getting into a rhythm and
(01:23:31):
a flow. And you know the warm up, you know
how how guys warm up. Some guys go and warm up,
warm up a few hours before the game, come back in,
settle down. Some guys, uh, you know, kind of just
roll on out there. But it's all about finding your
own individual routine that will allow each and every one
(01:23:52):
of them to perform at a high level.
Speaker 25 (01:23:54):
When we start the game.
Speaker 29 (01:23:55):
We can't wait to the second quarter to to feel comfortable.
Speaker 1 (01:24:03):
And now great moments in.
Speaker 3 (01:24:07):
History, have any resolution as to how it's going to
be for everybody, you know, us, you know, continue on
inside baseball. What do you mean from where are we
going to be? Where we're gonna be? What are we
gonna do? You just say that yesterday you said you
didn't know exactly how that was gonna basically.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Said, those who were in the red press box blue blue,
I mean we're blue. Oh, he's gonna those who are
in the blue corona practical in house will be in
the blue press box.
Speaker 3 (01:24:30):
But are they going to do spacing up there so
we're not going to be crowded.
Speaker 16 (01:24:35):
And there's gonna be no visiting answering his question?
Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
Seriously for me, it just blew me right.
Speaker 1 (01:24:40):

And the hoodie with the zipper, I have to have it.

Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Ha.
Speaker 9 (01:26:42):
Yes, this is gonna be our year. We're gonna do better.
Just fill in a couple of spots he in there,
but this is gonna be our turnaround here, all right?
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
Well, thanks Brian. September tenth is when you can get
your hoodie with the zipper, and once you do, send
us your picture with it on.
Speaker 12 (01:26:57):
We should have made special edition podcast shirts this call there, and.
Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
Brian, if it makes you feel any better, we'll do that.
We're not allowed to keep this stuff. We have to
give it back.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
Yeah, we have to give it back to the show. Yeah,
I'd love to have stuff to give away, but maybe
in a future show, maybe on September tenth. So they
usually do like limited runs of this stuff to kind
of create the demand. But and you probably had to
order it like five years ago. The way Nike works,
(01:27:26):
it's it's it's tough, Paul, It's tough. Tony's on the
Tony's on the Cape. What's up Tony?
Speaker 18 (01:27:34):
For a long time season ticket hold up? Great, the
new the new jersey's the back of Paul's you had
held it up. Does that get a red Patriots thing
on the back?
Speaker 1 (01:27:46):
I well, let's see. Yeah, it's got the Patriots, uh
with the with the Elvis logo? Yeah?
Speaker 18 (01:27:55):
Do they if they're making a bomber.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
Jacket, yeah, Evan Evan had.
Speaker 12 (01:28:01):
It was a cloth material.
Speaker 11 (01:28:02):
It wasn't quite like a jackety like a traditional bomber
jacket material, but.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Yeah, it was like a bomber jacket. It had the
you know, the cuffs and the collar.
Speaker 18 (01:28:13):
Because yep. The reason I asked is we got a
thing for the Patriots back about a month ago. The
season ticket holders are all getting a jacket this year,
and you had to give them a size. I just
wondered if it's in the new color.
Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
I don't know. I don't know it.
Speaker 18 (01:28:34):
Yeah, I think it still shop. But the only thing
I would have done different I might have put a
little red around the new England.
Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
Okay, you might make it, yeah, just to pop a
little bit. Okay, yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 18 (01:28:49):
Red in the back of Paul's thing. When you held
that up earlier, I know that it made it seemed
to pop a little more.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
Okay, little red detail, I got you, Tony, all right,
thank you for the call. Longtime season ticket holder. Yeah,
every year, if you're a season ticket holder, you get
some type of present. I guess this year they're getting
winter jackets.
Speaker 12 (01:29:11):
Is a pretty good one. I like the blankets from
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
Vinnie's in Vegas. What's up, Vinnie?
Speaker 10 (01:29:18):
Hey, guys, how's it going good? You know, I apologize
if you guys spoke about this earlier. You know I
was able to log in a little later.
Speaker 27 (01:29:29):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (01:29:29):
I have a couple of questions for you guys. The
first one is is it time for us to start
worrying about the cornerbacks because of the injuries? And the
second question is is there any benefit of keeping two
guys like you know, Born and Baker and then releasing
(01:29:52):
him the next day? I mean, is there any anything
to do with that or is it just how it rolls?
Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
So I'll take the second one. We did talk a
bit about Gonzales earlier in the show, and we're starting
to get a little concerns that he's still not on
the practice field. But I guess we'll reserve till next week,
which is actual game week before we get too worked
up about it. But the roster thing, to me, is
more procedural, and they ended up claiming a couple of
(01:30:20):
players off waivers that obviously you don't know you're going
to be able to do beforehand, and that's where the
roster spots came from. And with Bourne, it certainly seems
that there's enough smoke around a potential trade that they
had in the works and it fell through. So I
think that's why you saw Born and Baker originally on
(01:30:42):
the roster, and then you get you get a couple
of waiver claims, so now they know, you know the
direction they want to go. You know, you have a
surplus of wide receivers. So that made a lot of sense.
Speaker 1 (01:30:52):
When is the actual trade deadline?
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
It's like early yeah, yeah, it's like yeah, it's like
eight weeks in, nine we into the season now, so
pushed it back a little bit, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:31:02):
That was like, yeah, kind of November fourth, So kind
of like the thing about cut day is and I
was I texted Evan because they were doing Catch twenty
two and during the show the Born news broke, and
you know, I texted him, I said, this is a
great example that cut day is just a formality. It's
(01:31:24):
just a day by which you have to get down
to fifty three. But once that happens, you're still free
to cut and bring guys in and you know, sign
them off the street, make trades with other teams right
up to November fourth, you know, so the roster's fluid. Yeah,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:31:42):
So before we went to break, I was doing the
James White thing and I just wanted to, you know,
finish that up. James White in college at at Wisconsin.
First of all, you had forty eight career touchdowns at Wisconsin,
but it seemed just going with his senior year, you
had fourteen hundred and forty four yards rushing over six
and a half yards to carry thirteen touchdowns. Plus he
(01:32:05):
caught thirty nine balls for three hundred more yards in
a couple of touchdowns. So just telling you what James
White was coming out of college. What he ended up
being is not as dynamic as what we've seen so
far from chevy On Henderson. But in college he was
He was better than trevy On Henderson that Wisconsin, and
Henderson was an excellent player. Don't get me wrong, but
(01:32:27):
I think people sort of look and they see, like
what White ended up being was like this reliable first
down you know, chain mover, but he was more than
that coming out of college. Yeah, that's what he ended
up being. We'll see what Henderson ends up being.
Speaker 1 (01:32:42):
You know. And there were a couple of games, you
know that I can remember where White, because of circumstances,
had to be the lead back. Sometimes it happened during
a game because somebody would go down. He wasn't dynamic
in that role. He really wasn't, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
No, he didn't have he did not have the high
end speed that Henderson has. Yeah, I would say Henderson
right now has more potential to be a big play threat,
But I don't know if he's going to be what
what White was. I mean White was why was really good?
Speaker 1 (01:33:13):
Yeah, Yeah, it was so reliable and if you needed
those that extra yard, he figured out how to get it.
He was tough to bring down.
Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
Henderson had forty two touchdowns at Ohio State. Like this
is like White was on par with Henderson.
Speaker 11 (01:33:28):
Yeah, I think he's just recency bias in Ohio State
one yep.
Speaker 1 (01:33:34):
Yeah. And over the years, like a lot of running
backs out of Wisconsin, like they had really good college careers,
but never did what they did in college and the
pros like Monty Ball, for example.
Speaker 3 (01:33:47):
You know Wisconsin guys.
Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
Wisconsin running backs because they always have great offensive lines
in Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
Ron Dayne, Ron Dayne. Yep, Monty Ball. That's a good one.
Like Elvin Gordon was pretty good though.
Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
Yeah. I like Melvin Gordon. I like him.
Speaker 3 (01:34:04):
AJ Wisconsin tight in the head. Hey, are you ever amazed.
Speaker 12 (01:34:08):
To recall aritible.
Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
Wisconsin?
Speaker 3 (01:34:13):
You just looked at me like Beth would like with this,
just disappointed looking.
Speaker 12 (01:34:16):
How do you know that's disappointment? Just bewilderment, a little
bit bewilderment.
Speaker 1 (01:34:21):
AJ from the Bay Area. New uniforms are cool personally.
I'm just encouraged to see the faintest trace of uniform
creativity from the Patriots. I just hope this signal is
a permanent, gradual transition from gray to white helmets.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:34:36):
I people are universally in love with that.
Speaker 1 (01:34:39):
I love the helmet. I still like for an alternate
jersey or alternate uniform. I'd love to see the traditional
white with the traditional elvis. I think that would really
look cool like gloss. Yeah, and then have a red,
have a red to go with that, right, So I mean,
(01:34:59):
you know, and due time, there'll be plenty of alternate
uniforms for all these teams because it's money and the
fans like choices. So uh, Matt in Rochester, New York
love the Rivalry uniforms. I think this shade of blue
is really cool for one game. My hope we take
(01:35:21):
this concept style and make it our main jersey next
year with the current Navy color scheme. Keep the white
pants in white helmet, and it'll be huge improvement over
our current awful uniforms. Question any idea when the captains
will be announced? Predictions on who they will be?
Speaker 3 (01:35:39):
I don't know when they will be announced. It's hard
for me to Before the season you get a new coach.
Speaker 11 (01:35:45):
Yeah, Bill used to always do it. What that last
week of practice before week one?
Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:35:49):
But I also had an idea of who Bill was
going to be, sorry, who they were going to have
for captains.
Speaker 12 (01:35:53):
Right, yeah? Like will able to do a vote or
will he just appoint them?
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
And I don't know if he actually does it, do
you know what I mean? Like with Bill, I kind
of knew how it was going to unfold.
Speaker 1 (01:36:05):
After a while you put his thumb on the scale.
Speaker 3 (01:36:07):
Oh, I know he did, But I don't know if
Rabel just leaves it completely up to the players and
when that happens to me, if it's strictly a player
vote and that's like there's no thumb on the scale
to use your analogy, I think it's completely unpredictable. Who
knows who the players think of that way.
Speaker 1 (01:36:27):
Tyler in New York wants to know if are the
details on the apparel where you're wearing stitched or screen
printed stitched? So, well, this is I mean, this is heat,
but it's not flat. It's raised raised stitch and Nike
stat stitch.
Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
In the in the NFL logo here and this is Yeah,
it's not like there was one one of those shirts
had it like screened.
Speaker 1 (01:36:51):
Yeah, so this is like sewed on on the edge. Yeah,
it's sowed on, but it's like rubber. Yeah, you know,
so it's raised.
Speaker 3 (01:37:01):
I'm not gonna applica, I mean.
Speaker 12 (01:37:02):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:37:03):
I'm not going to protect anything.
Speaker 11 (01:37:04):
Application applica is That's what I think I was going for.
Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Can I just have one I'll do one prediction for
a captain rocket Splaine. Yeah, I'm going to predict Robert
sp well he better be. Yeah, that's a bad sign
if he's not the captain.
Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
Right, So there's two.
Speaker 12 (01:37:23):
But I'm just gonna Henry.
Speaker 3 (01:37:24):
Maybe Henry was a captain. I believe last year was.
Speaker 11 (01:37:28):
Two years still then drawed the draw year Hunter was
not a captain, but then there were so many captain
casualties that Hunter was then appointed again as captain. And
I always thought that was a little awkward. Okay, and
I think Douggar was also appointed after Bentley and Pep
went down.
Speaker 12 (01:37:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 11 (01:37:49):
Last year was a bad year for captains, name Vid Andrews.
Speaker 12 (01:37:54):
They all all of them, favor for Cardon.
Speaker 1 (01:37:57):
Bentley was a captain, he got hurt. Hurt Ellen Wisconsin
love the new uniforms. Everyone can have their grites with
certain parts, but as an overall product, they think it
looks great. Best Elvis has ever looked on a helmet.
But with how good that any logo looks, I'd be
happy with just having that as the main logo going forward.
Oh that's a bold take.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
It kind of like it. Yeah, I kind of like
that take.
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
Yeah, okay, all right, I'm with it.
Speaker 12 (01:38:29):
I want it on a hat.
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
What if you put that on the helmet?
Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
I think that would look cool too, you.
Speaker 3 (01:38:35):
Know, kind of like the n Y and the Giants.
Speaker 11 (01:38:37):
Yeah, you should have Devin and Stitch just print out
a decal just for fun, just to show us what
it would look like.
Speaker 1 (01:38:43):
And then you do that. Oh no, you look like
the Giants. You can't win, you can't.
Speaker 3 (01:38:47):
Well, we look like the Titans now, so Claire Wrights
in Hello everyone, hanover.
Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
Reen. I love Alex, but I gotta disagree. I'm good
with jerseys, even on grown ass men.
Speaker 12 (01:38:58):
Reach their own. Claire also hold that against you.
Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
I do like the rivalry un rivalries.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
Uniforms a difficult word to say, rivalry, like you have
to sort of think about it when Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:39:10):
I definitely agree. The sideline apparel is lush. Can't wait
to hopefully get hold of some any ideas of anything
that will be review released in women's fit and sizes. Well,
we do have the crop.
Speaker 12 (01:39:22):
Yeah, it was that crop crew neck.
Speaker 11 (01:39:25):
It's not like a full crop either, Like it's not
a belly shirt. It's probably it's probably gonna fall at
I'd say, like the top of your hip bone.
Speaker 1 (01:39:32):
Middrift. They call it middrift.
Speaker 11 (01:39:35):
Yeah, like right under the I think I'd imagine it
fell right under the belly button.
Speaker 1 (01:39:38):
So if anyone from the Pro shops watching or listening
and you want to call in and give us more
details on some other stuff that we didn't show that
might become available for sideline stuff, let us know.
Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
You know, we have to drop your reach ken right.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
We always used to try to call let me. Never picked.
Speaker 19 (01:40:02):
Him.
Speaker 1 (01:40:04):
We just called the pro Shop and we'd get his
voice to be in charge of. We used to play
that who was a bit.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
He was a great guy and we used to always
bring calling him on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
Yeah, sure, get him on the line. We should do
that with people around the office.
Speaker 12 (01:40:18):
We should thing ditch people.
Speaker 1 (01:40:19):
Yeah, not ditch him, like see if they answer and
then put them on.
Speaker 12 (01:40:23):
I'm with it. Who do you start with?
Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
What would you do here?
Speaker 12 (01:40:27):
I would call Tip.
Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
Tip, Yeah, that would be good.
Speaker 12 (01:40:31):
We would wake him up from his nap. His feet
would be on his desk, Like, what are you call
him for?
Speaker 1 (01:40:37):
How about we'll call Robert Kraft.
Speaker 11 (01:40:39):
I don't have that line, but I'm sure you do.
Speaker 12 (01:40:45):
If you want to.
Speaker 1 (01:40:47):
Uh, Yeah, who would like be most put off or not?
Put off, but like, rat, what are you doing? Yeah, Karen, Yeah,
that would be a good one from.
Speaker 12 (01:41:03):
Someone from the video team like Bradley would probably get flustered. Yeah,
it could be a fun bit.
Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
All right, let's see Curtis in Saint Louis. I'm liking
the new rivalry line. It's different, it's traditional looking. I
do have a problem with the color. I agree with
Paul and the helmets looking a little like the Titans,
But overall, I'm a fan. I will definitely be purchasing
(01:41:31):
that zip up hoodie. Would love to see a ball
cap to match. My only critique on the jerseys are
the red stars around the collar, but overall I'm looking
forward to see them in action. I like the red stars,
you know, because you're looking for that red pop. Like
one of the callers said.
Speaker 12 (01:41:47):
First color the ICs red.
Speaker 1 (01:41:48):
Yeah, so there's six of them. Represents two things, the
six Super Bowl trophies and the six New England states.
So you know, we're the only team that represents a
whole region.
Speaker 12 (01:41:59):
Paul, what about the Carolina Panthers?
Speaker 1 (01:42:02):
Is that a region?
Speaker 12 (01:42:02):
It's not a region. But I decided to.
Speaker 3 (01:42:06):
Sit that one out because the Carolina Panthers not the
North Carolina, right, that's true.
Speaker 11 (01:42:11):
The most basic sense of the word region, Like, yeah,
it's a region. It's not an official region of the
United States like New England is, but it's a region
that's a part of it.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
I also would say, much like the Carolina really, what
Fred really the Charlotte Charlotte's Yeah, much like the Patriots
are really the Boston Patriots.
Speaker 12 (01:42:32):
But that's just my well, I launch, well, the Panthers
are in Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
Yeah, but I can't be a h.
Speaker 3 (01:42:37):
No, no, I know that, But the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (01:42:40):
I can't be a hypocrite about that. The Patriots can't
call themselves Boston.
Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
It was a petty squabble, you know, fifty years ago, just.
Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
Like New Jersey can't call themselves New York.
Speaker 3 (01:42:51):
It wasn't just like marketing because I couldn't end up
getting Billy Sullivan couldn't get the stadium in Boston, Okay,
and he pouted.
Speaker 12 (01:43:00):
I think it worked out for marketing purposes.
Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
Now you have look at this six.
Speaker 1 (01:43:04):
States, so I guess who's back.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
Look what was the mood players friendly to? What was like?
Speaker 5 (01:43:27):
Is that am Locker?
Speaker 1 (01:43:30):
That is the best return song? So sorry, yeah it
is it really is. So Evan induced are back from
open locker room, tell us what the mood is.
Speaker 6 (01:43:41):
The mood is, let's get out of here and get
on vacation was generally what the move was a lot
of players getting out of.
Speaker 5 (01:43:45):
There quick weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:43:47):
I did hear from Tommy DeVito, Uh, spoke at his locker,
so it was good to hear.
Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
Did anybody he was asked about the north front of
the voice? Oh voice, anybody like ask questions?
Speaker 6 (01:43:59):
No, no, no, no, but it was a voice like,
so north end.
Speaker 3 (01:44:03):
So you're Italian? Huh.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
We did ask somebody did ask if mom is coming,
and Mom is not coming. She's going to stay in
New Jersey. So he's going to live on his own.
He said, big're gonna have chicken parma. But he said again,
so I'm assuming college probably was was on his own
as well, so he's not his first rodeo. But there
were a lot of jokes about our Italian food here
(01:44:27):
in the Boston area and how much he's going to
enjoy it, that sort of thing.
Speaker 6 (01:44:32):
The football stuff was kind of interesting, Like he said,
he kind of had a like he kind of had
a feeling that it might happen, especially you mentioned the
Patriots being fourth in the pecking order, so I'm not
sure what that inkling was. But he seemed very excited
to be here and said his agent we all know,
called him up and told them and they were they
were fired up about it. So, yeah, he seems happy
to be here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:52):
Interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
Yeah, he mentioned, you know, some of the overlap with
the front office, Ryan Cowden being in New York for
a little while and then Brian Dable being a former
Patriots assistant. So he said, there's people in the Giants
organization that have spent time here, so that he had
some feedback of what exactly it was going to be
like here and things like that, and some overlap with
(01:45:14):
the offenses with Dabell and Josh McDaniels. So there was
some football stuff in there. Wasn't all just jokes.
Speaker 5 (01:45:21):
The jokes and his mom.
Speaker 1 (01:45:23):
Yeah, appropriate.
Speaker 6 (01:45:23):
But Anthony Jennings was also in the locker room, so
he was not at practice. I wonder what's going on
with roster juggling, so he was in the locker room.
Didn't happen to catch Javon Baker.
Speaker 4 (01:45:33):
Did talk to Jennings yesterday, it was Yeah, I briefly
talked to him and he's he said, he's ready to go.
Speaker 5 (01:45:41):
Yeah, a Patriot.
Speaker 6 (01:45:44):
But they don't have any names above the lockers right now,
there's no there's just Patriot logos.
Speaker 1 (01:45:48):
So those are digital anyway.
Speaker 6 (01:45:50):
Right right, it can change them at any point.
Speaker 5 (01:45:52):
Just yesterday and today was the first time I've.
Speaker 12 (01:45:54):
Been or anything.
Speaker 6 (01:45:56):
It's just Patriots.
Speaker 4 (01:45:58):
Quite confusing, I have to say, the last couple of days,
I've been just trying to figure out where everybody is
is situated. But the one thing that I also have noticed,
we've talked a lot about Morgan Moses and like he's
just going to bring up Morgan most so you do it.
It's amazing, the same things my best friends. So yeah,
Morgan Moses just seems like he's just like always in
(01:46:21):
a good mood and like holding court and chatting up guys,
whether even guys like out of his position group. It's
not just the offensive lineman. He's like shouting across the
locker room at kylevon Chase on like hey, Kse, what's up?
You know, like things like that. And captains should be
relatively soon, maybe sometime early next week. I would think
(01:46:41):
some teams have already announced theirs and you just wonder
if Morgan Moses is going to be We.
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
Were talking about that funny that you know, just before
you came, and we said, you know, make May logical. Yeah,
Bobby Splane probably.
Speaker 3 (01:46:54):
That was my pick. Yeah, plain.
Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
So, and you're just thinking that for me, you're thinking
more and Moses might. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:47:01):
I would say Morgan Moses may. Maybe Hunter Henry on
the offensive side. Defensively, Spallaine makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
Uh, he's not.
Speaker 4 (01:47:11):
Like a raw raw leader, but like Harold Landry maybe
just as a rabel guy up there as well. I
don't know about the third one, but those guys and
then I expect Schooler to be a special terms captain,
but it will it'll be interesting to see you. Also,
you know some things like locker positioning and things like that.
(01:47:32):
There's always that one locker in the corner that's right
by the door that's extremely important.
Speaker 1 (01:47:36):
And Patriots the sheriff.
Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
Yeah, so I think mcguinnis was there right for a while.
I know my time High Tower used to be there,
Bentley used to be there. That is now Harold Landry's locker.
So if that means anything in terms of captains, maybe
he's right there. In the corner on the way in.
Speaker 6 (01:47:56):
So I noticed the same thing I haven't did with Moses.
I saw him just cutting it up with Kadan Waugh
and just they've known each other now for a few months,
but it's just you can see that he's clearly taken
a leadership role with some of these young guys like
Kiden Wallas, who kind of the last man standing from
some of.
Speaker 5 (01:48:10):
The draft picks they've had.
Speaker 6 (01:48:11):
And yeah, I also say, I really like Morgans had
a lay Miz shirt on, so like, good, good choice,
love Miss.
Speaker 4 (01:48:16):
It just feels like some of the guys like Jared
Wilson was sort of in his orbit as well, just
like kind of like hanging out with Morgan Moses, Like
I feel like a lot of the younger guys are
already gravitated towards him and are just kind.
Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Of So would you say wearing a lay Miz T shirt?
Is uh a good sign that vrabel is building culture
on the team.
Speaker 6 (01:48:39):
Yeah, there's a culture in the culture.
Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
I'm still trying to figure out why it's a positive
that he had a Lame Miss show.
Speaker 1 (01:48:47):
It's a great show.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
It's a great I like the show, like the show
Cat's not a bunch of people dressed around as I'd
be like this guy is now.
Speaker 3 (01:48:56):
Yeah, I'm with you. I like.
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Playing in Boston.
Speaker 3 (01:49:01):
I just don't know why that's a plus because.
Speaker 5 (01:49:03):
I love wearing it.
Speaker 12 (01:49:05):
Do you think you've seen it?
Speaker 5 (01:49:06):
I was almost going to go.
Speaker 6 (01:49:08):
Him about it so great?
Speaker 3 (01:49:14):
I told you I saw it.
Speaker 6 (01:49:16):
Fine, I mean, that's crazy what happens, right, I mean,
you know French Revolution.
Speaker 1 (01:49:20):
Let's go all right, eight five five pats five hundred
before we get to the phones media, I.
Speaker 4 (01:49:28):
Was was your contingent, solid.
Speaker 6 (01:49:30):
Cares A lot of cameras, not a lot to shoot, Yeah,
a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (01:49:34):
So we were we were waiting outside the in the
tunnel to go into the locker room, and there was
like a mad dash to go into the locker room
and so.
Speaker 1 (01:49:42):
On, everyone like gets stuck at the door pretty much.
Speaker 12 (01:49:45):
It's like Black Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
So somebody comes up to me and is like, what's
the big deal, And I was like the veto and
sure thing. I walk in and there's just fifty reporters
or on Tommy Tavido's locker and and they're waiting for
him there and he's walking in and I can see
the smile on his face like oh there there they
(01:50:07):
are waiting for it. So it was like a new player,
new quarterback comes on and the media you know, right right,
I'll grousing to get in there.
Speaker 3 (01:50:16):
It was great.
Speaker 5 (01:50:16):
He didn't have much time to Aaron. Aaron clamped it down.
Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:50:19):
Yeah, it was like five questions. It's mostly all by
Dan Road.
Speaker 6 (01:50:23):
Kyle Went was just like like laughing at him when
he was walking, like, man, they're not here.
Speaker 5 (01:50:26):
For me, like get over there. But it was good.
That was really it.
Speaker 6 (01:50:29):
I mean a lot of guys just getting in getting
out for the.
Speaker 5 (01:50:32):
For the long weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:50:33):
They're off tomorrow, so a couple of days off for
these guys before.
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
All locked in on week one.
Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Okay, next year, you'll be in a brand new locker
room when you do this. It's gonna be a long
walk though, do so a little uh insight golf car.
I don't have any pictures and I can't tell you
anything specific, but I know they debuted the new lockers
that the guys will have privately so they could take
(01:50:58):
a look at the lockers that I'll have next year.
Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
It's funny. I didn't even really think of that. Yeah,
that they the locker room itself is.
Speaker 1 (01:51:05):
Going to be brand new way over well.
Speaker 5 (01:51:07):
I think, and they'll still come back here for games
I guess.
Speaker 3 (01:51:10):
Well that's the Yeah, they'll still keep this locker.
Speaker 1 (01:51:12):
For game day, but during the week, all this open
locker room availability will be at the new facility as
well as the press cons.
Speaker 4 (01:51:19):
So that's interesting because another little thing, Uh, the lockers
in the middle of the.
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
Locker room are still there.
Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
Oh, they're still there, even though they took.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
Trim their roster down. So in the past, the practice
squad guys would have the lockers in the back, and
they some of them would have to share lockers. And
so now maybe it's a rable thing that they're not
doing that. They have the portable lockers in the middle.
But I assume when they open the new facility they
probably will have enough lockers to not need these portable ones. Potentially,
I don't know. I don't know they have those still,
(01:51:48):
which I thought was interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:51:50):
All right, let's get to the phones. Boston Creams on
the line, what's up, Boston Cream?
Speaker 28 (01:51:58):
Your brain on something particularly snarky side?
Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
Oh, I always say it for that.
Speaker 28 (01:52:04):
So in two thousand, Belichick had fifty one players on
their roster, right, I'm not misremembering that.
Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
I believe that that was the case. Yeah, you got
in trouble, but yeah, and he claimed they didn't feel
like they had fifty three NFL players.
Speaker 28 (01:52:17):
So would would snarky Paul say that that was just
the tactic to say he's got his guys and to
show the NFL he can win with left.
Speaker 3 (01:52:25):
No, no, no, I think you legitimately felt like you
didn't have fifty three players that he wanted to keep.
I think that's you know, I'm not saying that he
doesn't deserve a lot of credit for keeping four quarterbacks,
but that's one of the reasons he was able to
keep four quarterbacks, right, because he didn't feel like he
had NFL players. I mean they signed guys like literally
(01:52:46):
off the street that I think Sally Aseayah started like
the like off the street. Yeah, like they didn't. They
wasn't a very talented.
Speaker 1 (01:52:55):
If you if you're looking for some type of like
motive behind not keeping full roster at first, if anything,
you might say he was just telling his owner and
maybe everybody else, I don't have a good.
Speaker 3 (01:53:07):
Roster and they at the time, and I know this
is gonna come sound really hypocritical coming from me, But
at the time, the salary cap was a thing, and
they had a tough situation. They had some veterans like
Bruce Armstrong and Chris Slade, Max Lane I think was
still a round Aguinness. Those guys were kind of expensive.
(01:53:31):
Ben Kots would be another one, Mike, and they were,
you know, certainly on the back nine, and they needed
to sort of they rid the roster of some of
those guys. Some of them stayed, but most of them went.
And then he still he kept the nucleus of talent
that he had, which was excellent, you know, the tie Laws,
Teddy Bruski's lawyer, Malloy, ted Johnson, you know, William mc ginnis.
(01:53:53):
They still had a lot of good players and he
kept them. But I think it was just kind of
reworking the roster and trying to figure out how he
was going to and he didn't have a lot of
room to replace those guys because of the salary cap
at the time was much more restrictive.
Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
H James is in North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
Hey, James, James, Big game, James Illo, James, No, it's
not James.
Speaker 1 (01:54:18):
What's up the stadium?
Speaker 9 (01:54:25):
Stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Nicely done.
Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
James is not there, but neither is Ken Flanders. Uh
all right. I said, if there's anybody listening from the
pro Shop that wants to, you know, call in about
some of the sideline stuff, you can And we used
to do that. We used to call Ken Flanner random.
Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
Shop at the time, and he's in the middle of
the pro He was never he was never at his desk,
and we always got the voicemail.
Speaker 11 (01:54:54):
So then we got into a bit about calling people
while we're on the show here that we'll work with.
Speaker 1 (01:54:58):
So who could we call? They would I don't know.
Speaker 12 (01:55:00):
We thought Aaron.
Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
I was literally just first one.
Speaker 6 (01:55:06):
Aaron's not going to pick up Tuesday, let's do it.
Speaker 3 (01:55:09):
Who says now?
Speaker 1 (01:55:10):
But those PR guys there you always pick up.
Speaker 6 (01:55:13):
Aaron will be up in the middle of the like,
except today when literally, Mike you already walked in like
five minutes, laid into the locker room and he's like,
how long you guys been open? I was stuck at
the gate. I was trying to call Aaron.
Speaker 3 (01:55:21):
He would pick up, and then Aaron came running over.
Speaker 1 (01:55:23):
He's like, I don't have my phone.
Speaker 12 (01:55:26):
He must have lost it.
Speaker 1 (01:55:28):
Guy without a phone. Uh, Rick Richard, new Haven, Connecticut
about the rivalries Jersey. Uh, this is absolutely a cape
Cod color. It looks like every old Shaker style siding
on a cute little cape Cod house. You see it everywhere.
It looks like a nor'easter. I hope then job because
(01:55:52):
that's the look they were going for.
Speaker 6 (01:55:54):
It was good to me that was headed down to
the cape Cod tonight, Fred cape Cod.
Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
You know you've got a big vacation to day tomorrow
and this is it, right, this is it.
Speaker 5 (01:56:03):
This is the favorite time of year on the cab.
Feel the same way.
Speaker 6 (01:56:06):
But like my mom lives down there now summer, once
the tourists all leave and it thins out and the
weather is still pretty nice.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
It's just well next week. It's it's that two weeks
after Labor Day.
Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
For me, I think this weekend would be busy down there.
Speaker 5 (01:56:17):
It Labor Day weekend. Yeah, but I'm just saying, it's.
Speaker 12 (01:56:20):
Uh, back in school.
Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Everybody's off the island though. I'll tell you that on Monday,
late Monday, it's like the rush of starting school before
Labor Day.
Speaker 5 (01:56:29):
I don't that's weird.
Speaker 6 (01:56:30):
We got to bang out Wednesday and Thursday, because a
two days of school.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
Their off weeks ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (01:56:35):
But I kind of like get like a couple of
dry run days and then you get back.
Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
So it helps for the days that they miss for
the weather. You know, it gives you a couple of
extra days that you got in June.
Speaker 4 (01:56:45):
Right, Well, they're soft about the weather now too, oh god.
Speaker 1 (01:56:49):
Too cold. They canceled school. Yeah, but this August, like,
at least here in Massachuset, one of the best weather August.
Speaker 6 (01:56:58):
After all that thirteen fourteenth Street Saturdays with rain in
the spring, and it.
Speaker 11 (01:57:03):
Was really hot in July, but July was beautiful too.
We didn't get a lot of rain after June.
Speaker 1 (01:57:07):
Well, July we had those oppressive heat days.
Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Those really great training camp weather. We did have great
weather and really not a ton of rain, not not
overly hot. A couple of hot days, but nothing crazy.
But thet no rain is huge. I mean that's big.
Speaker 3 (01:57:26):
And when it has rained, it seems like it's like
overnight or really heavy for a very short period of time,
which is good because it gause you know, you know,
for you environmentalists, what you need.
Speaker 6 (01:57:36):
You see water heat.
Speaker 1 (01:57:41):
Austin in the woods of Oklahoma rights In just sold
my house and maxed out my credit card to bet
Chisholm to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player
of the Year and m v P. Now I'm living
in a tent, but it will be all worth it
in five months. My wife wants a divorce, but you
can't find me in the woods, so I'm in the
clear for now. Paul, I'm buying you a mid trim
Toyota Corolla once my money hits my account.
Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
Something to root for it ps.
Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
The new uniforms are dope, and I'd love to see
them more than once a year.
Speaker 6 (01:58:09):
Yeah, that's that's the thing, that it is only once
a year.
Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
Yeah. Someone said that he heard it was twice this year.
It isn't. It's just one game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:16):
I said that it's just once.
Speaker 6 (01:58:19):
Everyone clarify a Yeah, you see them once and that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:58:23):
I might make those bets for a Traveon Henderson. I
wouldn't make that bet for chosen Offensive Rookie.
Speaker 1 (01:58:30):
Of the Year.
Speaker 3 (01:58:32):
Make it happen if if we could, of course, you know,
you know, that would be uh. I think that would
be a good pick. Nice little dark horse.
Speaker 5 (01:58:40):
There's how much of an impact would that really make
for this offense?
Speaker 6 (01:58:42):
So, I mean, because we kind of downplay not to
get into this with two minutes left, but like, realistically,
like Trevon Henderson is offensive Rookie of the year, is is
that enough to get the Patriots into the playoffs or
does there have to be.
Speaker 3 (01:58:54):
I think a couple more than.
Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Garrett Wilson won the offensive Player of the Year for
the Jets couple of years ago, and Sasso one defensive
player Rookie of the year and they didn't make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:59:05):
All right, one more call then we're gonna call it
a show. Terrence is in southern California. What's up, Terrence?
Speaker 10 (01:59:12):
Fred?
Speaker 11 (01:59:13):
How you doing?
Speaker 18 (01:59:13):
Hey, Paul?
Speaker 21 (01:59:14):
I just wanted to call in and ask how your
son did at Hell week and what company he's in,
because my son's a junior there and maybe he can
look out for him.
Speaker 3 (01:59:24):
Well, I don't know. I don't think if he's a junior,
is he he's not allowed to be friends? Right?
Speaker 1 (01:59:29):
And not how it works.
Speaker 3 (01:59:32):
He's fifth Battalion, Victor Company.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
That's tough, sounds, that goes hard, tip of the spear.
Speaker 3 (01:59:44):
I appreciated, Terrence. Thank you for chiming in that's uh, yeah,
it's a lot. We're just kind of learning about it.
I don't my wife and I don't really have any
military background, so just kind of taking it all in.
It was nice to hear from him over the weekend
after they take their phones away for the first like
eight or nine days. It was nice to hear from him.
Speaker 4 (02:00:03):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
I think he's doing okay. So far, so far, so good.
Speaker 5 (02:00:07):
All right, any timed in on the reform too.
Speaker 1 (02:00:08):
Thanks for calling in, Terrence.
Speaker 3 (02:00:11):
Thank you, Terrence. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (02:00:13):
