Speaker 3 (00:09):
The World's a Vegetal podcast. Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. Trying
to get the emails, but the keyboard doesn't work. I
want to just looked up like one of those mormits.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Marmots.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, nothing's working.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
You know what, hey, Beth, if you just keep hitting
the buttons, maybe they'll start working. Melt Blown used to
kill guys all the way down the field, and you
can't do that anymore, you know.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
And you can't take someone's life anywhere.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
My dad and I both listen to the podcast, and
our washer just broke down. He's thinking of buying another
brand besides Speed Queen. Please convince him that Speed Queen
is worth the extra charge.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
I just got a Samsung and I'm very very happy
with it.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So why did she get to speak Queen?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I don't want to speak Queen.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Why you just have to book orders in it every
time you want to use it?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Sounds it sounds like it sounds industrial.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Well, they do have a model that the laundry mattshews.
Where's Evan?
Speaker 4 (01:07):
He's gonna come back to that practice now, I know,
but we're supposed to come back.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Evan doesn't actually move that fast, so.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
No, you know, he's sort of like a three toad slot,
isn't there. He kind of battles around really looking forward
to the start of the season. I have no real
interest whatsoever in that game tomorrow night, though.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Who is it? This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's
official website for deals by a Toyota dot com. All right,
welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gillette
Stadium in our first Thursday in season show. Can't wait.
We're doing picks later around one thirty. Evan, is that
(01:47):
practice and locker room?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
There's a lot going on.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
You're going to be leaving for the locker of a
twelve forty five, but you promised to be back for
one thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
For the picks.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Misspis Alex is here in her custom made what ever?
That is? Pullover jacket, jacket, wind breaker, full zip up,
sure is yep?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, a lot of nineties Patriots. Yeah's going on?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
That is like eight that's the nineties.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's got nineties. Like someone threw up
on a coat kind of look.
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Oh yeah, I'm.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Not insulting your offsulting style. Threw up style that I
grew up with. I'm insulting myself. Like you guys were like, well,
you weren't really in on the bloodsort that. Yeah, if
you had to live it, you wouldn't be in on
and either it's just nostalgic to you.
Speaker 7 (02:33):
Right, It's like I think it's cool, and I'm a
nineties kid, so.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
It wasn't so cool when you had to actually wear it.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
You've got the name on that.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Ironically, did you should.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Do that with like youth sports, you'd have like your
jacket when you put your name on the side with
your number and you get patches and stuff when you
go to tournaments and things of that nature.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I didn't get the patches part.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, it was a hockey name, all the patches on your.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Back, name and number, Paul capped, oh caps, Oh yeah,
game captain or.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Permanent, permanent, depending on what team it was.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Actually if the quarterback is the captain, usually yeah, that
is true.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I made the varsity tennis team as a freshman, so
I got my jacket, went to a dance and it
got stolen who wants my jacket with my name on it?
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Like you're going to say, who wants a jacket?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well, I mean, you know, it was like the same one.
It was the same style that they gave to all
the teams.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
But it's just like a regular school lettermane fact that, Yeah,
that's odd that someone would steal it.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Is a varsity athlete, right, They're like, you're not, well,
it was.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
Kind of so.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
When I was in high school, the boys soccer team
won States almost every single year, so it was like
a big thing to be able to wear one of
the boys.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
Jackets to the game. And if you got their varsity jacket.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
And I did see anyone wearing my jacket. I don't
know what they did with it. I think they were
just with me.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
That's what nailed it. It was a girl, it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I think they just threw it away wanted to be Freddy's.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Maybe he just left it like behind the couch and
it fell and you forgot it.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
No, he wouldn't forget it.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
It was And I was in college and we would
walk to parties in the winter and be freezing, so
then we would stash our coat somewhere where it wouldn't
get stolen after. So it's like after the party, you're
hammered and you're like going under the guy's couch.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
To listen, listen under his young people listening. If you're
out high school?
Speaker 4 (04:23):
One I thought thought we were still in high school
walking away.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
If you're out there, If you're out there, I'm going
to find you eventually. And cousin, I want that jacket back,
all right?
Speaker 4 (04:38):
So was that a big thing in high school? Though?
The girls like who who was wearing? Whose jacket? Stuff?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
I wore?
Speaker 7 (04:43):
Curtis Pereira's, Oh, would get.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Wearing Curtis, I have curisky Tuscadero.
Speaker 7 (04:53):
No, I don't think so it wasn't a big gum chore.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
All right, let's let's talk football here.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
I mean, it is the opener.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, we've got the Raiders coming up on Thursday. And
I know he did like this press conference or this
conversation yesterday Stefan Diggs. But besides all that, are we
not excited enough that we have Stefan Diggs on this
team and that he is gonna hopefully be Drake May's
(05:20):
number one guy?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I'm excited.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
You excited enough?
Speaker 2 (05:23):
I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
It just seems like all I think we've kind of
like downplayed it because we're afraid, like is he gonna play?
Is he not gonna play?
Speaker 7 (05:32):
This is why we can't have night.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Yeah, I think that ended on July twenty, but.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I think I would. I think we should be more
excited about the fact that Stefan Diggs is going to
be out there.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
I think you're right, Fred, I mean, I know what
you're getting at it. It seems like we spend more time
kind of like wondering if there's controversy going.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
On, and just you know.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
I mean, I've tried to bring it up a lot
that I thought on the field, he looks really good.
I don't know how close he is to the old
Steffan Diggs and what that might have looked like on
the field, but from what I've seen from this wide
receiver core over the six seasons that I've watched it,
he looks pretty good. He looks like the best receiver
they've had in a long gun, and.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I think he should make everyone else. I think you
should make Hunter Henry better. I think you should make
the guys that we watched last year a little bit better.
I think he helps the offense in general.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Maybe it definitely should.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
To an extent that we didn't see last year. No
one on this team that was here last year could
do what he's gonna hopefully do this year, you know,
And so I just think it's been downplayed because we're
kind of holding our breath a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah yeah, I mean, and he's coming off and.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
They have a legitimate receiver for the first time in
five years.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I mean, that's that's the bottom line for me. I
think what I've just enjoyed is it's easy to say
a guy's really good, but when you watch him in practice,
you start to see what the actual nuances are are
of his game. And I think it was Matt Collins
talking about just the way he tempos routes and he
slows down and he just he kind of has a
weird style that's hard for defensive backs to kind of
(06:59):
get a good read on, and it helps him be
a master terrific.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
He seems to have a good sense of that and
how to get open, how to get open based on
what he's seeing on the field.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
And I still think when we saw him in some
of those early team drills in Minnesota that it looked
like he decided, all right, I'll turn it around for
a little bit, you know here in the preseason and
you know, just see how things are feeling because just
was uncoverable there and you know those those are drills,
it's not real. But I just I feel like there's
a good chance he comes out of the gate and
it's just it's really good right out of the gate
(07:32):
immediately there there's a connection there and he's the engine
to the offense and the gotta have it moments.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Yeah. So, I mean I was listening to what he
was having to say yesterday and you know, having to
do with Tom and Phil from NBC Sports, you know,
but all that aside, I'm thinking to myself, Stefan Diggs
is the new England Patriot and Drake May is going
to be throwing to him. And I know when we
signed him it was a big but like it seems
(07:57):
to have like really tapered off, and I think we
need to be a little bit more excited about that.
That's just me.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
I know Paul doesn't care the message from well, I
just I don't. I don't really know where that I'm
not gonna get into the hole I was rated or
not rated, Like, I feel like people are properly excited
that they have a legitimate everything. Mike' said, they have
a guy who can get open. He's a great road runner,
always has been. They haven't had this, they haven't had
I don't know what the proper level of excitement is to,
(08:26):
you know, to satisfy your needs. But I think everybody
was recognizing the wide receiver room is better because Stefan
Diggs is here.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
But right, I agree with that. But like when I hear,
you know, people on your shows and other shows talk
about who they think, what's you know, what they think
is going to happen in the game, who they think
is going to win, It's like Diggs is an afterthought.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
It's like, you know, to me yesterday when I was
given basically Digs, Well, I know.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
It's a different situation. But when Randy Moss didn't really
practice all summer, did you feel like we were they
were sleeping on him a little?
Speaker 3 (09:02):
It's a good point. We had no I mean, we
saw in practice the difference of Randy Moss, but then
we didn't see him for the whole summer.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
No one knew what we were going to get for.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
We didn't know that was going to be like that.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
That would be like if Gonzales just played on on
Sunday and passes right. Seriously, That's that's how little we
saw of Randy Moss in training camp.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah, I hear your point though, but I just think
it's you know, it's hard because they've limited him a
little bit, and you know he hasn't been out there
every team period and you know, so you've only seen
him in little little burst. But I understand what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
My only question with Diggs is not about his availability.
It's not about his ability to run routes and all
that stuff. You're going to get the digs of the
last two or three years. Are you going to get
like a flashback digs of this big play guy who's
you know, making big plays down the field, stretching the field.
I don't. I don't think you're going to get that one.
I think you're going to get the one of you know,
(09:56):
the high volume, low yard with that. Yeah, i'd say,
like I said, it's a better receiver than they've.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Had for forever.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yeah, since Edelman retired.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, on like one knee too, Like yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
I wouldn't even say since nineteen, you know whatever, it
was twenty Like nineteen was the last time he was
a semblance of himself. Yeah, well it's twenty five. That's
a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
So I just want to throw that out there and
see if anyone agrees with me that, like, oh, yeah,
we've got Stefan Diggs. Oh yeah, hell yeah, we've got
Steffan Diggs. Let's go about that, Okay.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Like that's the part I would they have Stefan Diggs.
I think everybody's talking about him all the time. I
don't know what you think Stefan Diggs is going to be.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Well, I feel like I think he's going to be
a thousand yard receiver.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Right, that's what I I kind of agree with Frans Great,
but he's a fifteen hundred yard receiver in his career
and now he's a thousand yard.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
On this team. I'll take that. I'm excited about that
me too.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
I just don't know what. Maybe it's not as properly excited.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Like you're ready to poo poo it unless he has
fifteen hundred yard.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
I'm poo pooing you thinking that no one cares. I
think that's all anybody talks about.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
I think that some members of the media are like
trying to temper people's expectations to Like I've experienced this myself.
People have in the media have asked me how's Digs been,
and I say, he's wonderful to work with. Everything people
have told me about him being like a drama, like
one of those elite wide receiver mentalities, I just haven't
(11:18):
seen it personally. He showed up to more community events
with Donna during the preseason than anyone on this team,
including veterans, and I was just expressing that, like, I've
been super pleasantly surprised he's great to work with, and
everyone's like, oh, well, yeah, there's a honeymoon period, like
oh well, just wait, just wait, And I'm like, why
can't we just be like, oh cool, that's really great
(11:40):
that he seems to be a good guy off the
field and kind of just defying people's expectations that they
had of him coming in.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Yeah, so so is Alex properly excited?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Good?
Speaker 3 (11:53):
I like him.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
I think he's great.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I like him too.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
I was.
Speaker 7 (12:00):
It's not about liking him, it's just like, no, I'm
fired up.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Yeah, I don't really care about.
Speaker 7 (12:05):
It, just looks different when he's running around.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
His ability to change direction, change speed, and how smooth he.
Speaker 7 (12:12):
Makes it look like. It's it's really special.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
To watch totally.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
It's not something where, yeah, he's like Trayvon Henderson. He's
just faster than everybody else and he's strong and there's
some nuance to that. But you watching Stefan Diggs in practice,
it would be hard, I think to be Maybe it's
why he wasn't drafted high. Like it's just there's such
a subtleness to what makes him so good. And we
saw it time and time again with Josh Allen and
third down and the windows like that, and it's just
(12:39):
right there and he get that two feet in and
first down keep going. I hope those are the kind
of places because that, to me, fred is what will
make the biggest difference for Drake is just having that
guy that isn't easy to defend and gives defenses something
to think about, even if it's not as much as
it once was. It's going to help guys like Pop Douglas.
It's going to help guys hopefully you know, like Booty
and Hollands on the outside, and hopefully open things up
(13:00):
in the middle a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
So the first practice participation report came out yesterday, very small, thankfully,
although Gonzo was on it as did not participate, So
he ain't playing. I don't think that's just my take,
but he's not playing. Efton Chisholm popped up on it
with a knee and he put, you know, somewhat participated,
(13:25):
not full participation.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
But oh I thought he was full.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Oh no, you're right, Yes he was full, but he.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Was with the next knee injury Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Yeah, he was up there with full.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah. And then he's just a new guy at the
cornerback that they acquired. Got a concussion, Yeah, like two injuries.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Somehow maybe, yeah, I shouldn't say somehow. No, did he
come after the Yeah, he came after the preseason game. Yes,
he must have gotten that practice edition. What you guys
are doing out there?
Speaker 3 (13:53):
So according to that sheet of paper, Patriots are in
pretty good shape healthwise.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I mean, Gonzales is a big piece. Yeah, but overall,
you get out of training camp without one of those
catastrophic lost somebody for the season kind of injuries.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Well, and that's the thing is, I don't know, if
you look around the league a little bit because all
the injury reports always pop up, you know, this time
of year, and they're all really small because anybody who
got a catastrophic injury is on ir right, They're out
there not on the reports, right, And the guys that are,
you know, obviously you're just dealing with a couple of injury.
(14:27):
You know, you're going to start the season relatively healthy. Interestingly,
like Sean Slater as an example for the charges catastrophic
injury for LA. Yeah, but he's not going to be
on their injury reports.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I would be interesting to do a study where you
just went the average number of players on the injury
report by week and you could track it. What's it
look like in week one? You know, how do those
injury reports? Is there like a spike at a certain
point or is it just kind of continually going up
as the attrition adds up.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I didn't pretend to see all of them, but I
probably saw maybe four or five. And I don't think
I saw more than four or so players any one
team listed makes sense.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I mean, those guys are by November, they're like everybody's
dealing something.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Well, the Patriots, you know, we end up with like
fifteen guys on the report by November yep. So everybody's
dealing with something.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yep, including us yep.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
So that came out Sciatica just putting all that junk
out in the driveway.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Yet you slip the disc today, Obviously they'll be out
there practicing in shells. Yesterday was the one day they'll
they'll be in pads. So they'll be in shells today
and tomorrow and you'll be out there for.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Yeah, we'll go to that and yeah, we'll go out
tomorrow for sure, and we'll see. Yeah. Like I said yesterday,
we talked to Rabel afterwards, So I mean, well, no
afternoon tomorrow, really good chance. If Gonzal is probably not
going to play, I would the way Mike Rable has
been upfront with us, I would guess that he's probably
going to just tell you. So, yeah, it's a loss,
and hopefully they can get them back. I mean, it's
that seems like it's asking a lot. We haven't seen
(15:55):
him in over a month now, at saying oh we
can't play this Sunday, but hopefully he can play in
ten days. That still seems maybe asking a lot, but
maybe he's able to get back out there next week
and get out there in Miami.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Yeah, he and Roman Holiday, can you know, get on
the phone and talk.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
About things tissue muscle injuries.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yeah, that stinks for the Red Sox and for me oblique. Yeah,
it's excited anyway. All right, so back to football. All right,
So we've got getting excited about Diggs. Yes, except football.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
I'm just trying to make sure I show it a
proper level. I don't want to get chest high. You know,
Mike's a defense guy, so he doesn't really get as
excited about offense. And no, plus he doesn't like I
like tackling.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Healthy team going into Week one. As you know, like
Paul said, most teams are who do you think is
going to be the guy on defense, Mike, since you're
the defensive guy that will be leading the way tomorrow,
I mean on Sunday, is it Splaine?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Yeah? I mean I think generally it's it's it's him.
I would hope that maybe it's Harold Landry or Chase
on like just getting after Joey Smith and putting pressure
on him. But as I've been telling everybody who doesn't
follow the Patriots all that closely, and maybe they just
turn in for week one, I'd say, just be ready
for number fourteen in the middle of the defense, because
it just looks different and certainly is like a blogger
(17:18):
guy who spent so much time with people getting kind
of frustrated with defenses in the past, I would say,
like just the speed of the defenses. I think that's
been a theme over the last ten years or so.
There was always a desire to find that sideline to
sideline middle linebacker. I mean, you know, just Devin Lloyd
pops into my head, even as recently as a few
years ago, talking about just trying to get faster at
(17:39):
that position. And I think you've really seen this year
that this is a this is a totally different kind
of a defense. And you know, how is Christian Ellis
going to fit in too? I was going back watching
a little bit of some of the games last year
and just you know, seeing him go in when Jawan
Bentley went out I think in Week two, I mean
he got thrust right into the fire and remembering his
journey of really being a special teams guy. Watched a
(18:00):
little of the Eagles America's game last night. They talked
to Zach Bond, who was kind of the poster child
for making a jump from special teams too. I mean,
that's an enormous jump that Zach Bond made. But I
just want those two guys I think in the middle's
gonna be most visible, making a lot of the plays,
making a lot of the tackles and hopefully impact plays
behind the line of scrimmage, plays on the ball. Think
if Splain and Ellis are making those kind of plays,
(18:22):
then it'll it'll bold really well for the defense.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
What part of uh Gino's game do the Patriots have
to be most aware of? It's the short game? Is
it taking shots down field? Is it?
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I just haven't. I mean, this is I haven't. That's
a good question. Like my first thought is I'm so
concerned about Rock Bauers and Jacoby Myers that maybe you're
sleeping on Dante Thornton Amari Cooper, who's back there now
as well. I know he's close to the end, but
still I think he's a guy who can still play
a little bit. And Trey Turner, those guys with the
(18:59):
speed the ball downfield. And I know last year was
some blown coverages here with Seattle that Gino hit on,
But I.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Just don't think you can give up Big Tucker's the
guy that he plays so like to your point, like,
you know, get him downfield. Trey Tucker can get down
the field and you have a couple. I think you
rolling the dice a little bit with your safeties. Yeah,
So I don't think the Raiders are going to come
bombs away. I think I talked about this yesterday. I
would be very surprised if Pete Carroll didn't want to
come out and establish the run. I think that helps
(19:27):
the Patriots, even if they're able to do it, because
I think he keeps the score down and doesn't force
Drake May to have to get in a shootout. And
you know week one it's got to be all on
the offense right away. Well, I don't think it'll have
to be. I think you can win this game sort
of in the low twenties, and I think that's ideal
for where the Patriots are right now. You don't want
to have to have a thirty four to thirty one win.
(19:48):
I mean, you'll take a win no matter how you
get it, obviously, and I'd probably be more excited about
a thirty four to thirty one win than I would.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
But don't you think doing that lower Caro is helping
the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
I just literally just said that, So why does the
heat wouldn't he test? That's what he wants to do.
He wants to run the ball.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
I think he wants to win the game, and he.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Wants to do that by running the ball. That's how
he plays. That's what Marshawn Lynch and the whole let
Russ Cook thing in Seattle. That's what he's going on of.
He wants to run the ball. That's how he wants
to win games. He's won a lot of games. I
don't know doing that. And the Patriots biggest weakness on
paper on the defense is run defense. So it's not
like it's a dumb theory.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
I'll be surprised if they don't test the Patriots early downfield.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
I'd be shocked if they stop going bombs away.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
I mean, I don't mean like every other I mean, but.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
They might throw one pass like twenty five yards downfield
in the whole game, but it'll be Trey Tucker. That's
the guy that they want to get.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
I disagree with that.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
I don't think that that's the way that Gino Smith plays.
I don't think he's a downfield passer.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I think he's more of an under mean, if Pete Carroll,
what do you.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
I just have you watched Pete Carroll coach at all?
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Huh? Like I haven't watched him coach this team.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Okay, so I haven't either. So you seem to know
what they're going to do. I don't. I just assume
he's going to do what Pete Carroll has done in
his other teams. But I haven't seen him coach the Raiders.
I mean, they did draft a running back with the
sixth overall pick. The guy likes to run the ball.
I mean, I'm just making an assumption. I might be wrong.
I've never seen him coach the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
But the attention paid on genty opens things. I just
think keep a straight face. I just think he's crazy
if he doesn't, if he doesn't stretch the Patriots and
try to test.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Why where's the strength of the Patriots defense? Is the secondary?
I don't even know that it's supposed to be the secondary.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
That's why everybody's.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
Beating me over the head with all you The linebackers
are thin, the defensive line.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Is secondary is supposed to be good? Is because of Gonzales.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Yes, I understand the missing Gonzales, but there's still the
strength is in the secondary. How do you According to
all of the experts that have talked to me, I'd like.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
To see it first.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
And if I'm there, very thin at linebacker and they're
very small up front, so run the ball.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
I don't know, man, I I would test it.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
I would not Pete Carroll. I mean, I think you
us change. You're going a rookie safety back there and
Jas and maybe Alex Austin. I just you asked me
what scares me the most. It's that I do think
that Paul's.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Scare me the most. But I would have different safeties playing,
but they're not on the roster anymore, so I can't
do that.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
All the more reason for Pete Carroll to test it.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
That's not how we wants to.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Play the stuff that you know. He knows too, but he.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Doesn't want to play that way. And Gino Smith certainly
doesn't want to throw the ball downfield. He doesn't do that.
You certainly didn't do it when Seattle came here last year.
He threw for three hundred yards. Was one big play
that they blew a coverage on the metcalf. Everything else
was j just n across the middle. He had like
double digit catches in that game, right, Yeah, fifteen yard incuts,
(22:48):
you know, five yard shallow crossers trying to pick plays.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Now, you're making me feel better about the Patriots. Not
that I mean, I think the Patriot's gonna win, but
it's making me feel better if they're not willing to
test the Patriots. I agree, without questians all, I hope
that's the case. I'm a little worried about Craig Woodson
in his first start, and you know, going against the
coordinator like Chip Kelly, maybe that changes their approach a
little bit. I mean, I think Paul is right. I
(23:12):
think both teams are going to want early in the season.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Just they're gonna want it on the ball, you know.
And I think it's a mistake, don't pull it all
on your on your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
But yeah, I don't.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I'm not a scam plan if I were coaching, but
I'm not the coach.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I don't really feel bad about the Patriots run defense.
I just don't really know what to expect exactly. Like
I'm not like worried about it, Like if I had
to say, what are you more worried about. I would
say it's hard for me to really get worked up
about run defense, like you know, like.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
You can say it's the thing, you can say it
well ahead because it doesn't matter right.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Well, I mean, you know, generally speaking, that.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Football because they couldn't stop the run, despite the fact
that really stopping the run is not that much of
an indicator of a team's success.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Kenny Clark to help them out with that. Yeah, so,
I it's a great question. I mean, look, it's just
it's everything in Week one where you just have all
these new coaches, these new schemes, these new players. It's
all it's a mix of of so much and it's
hard to really discern what the attack is going to be.
All I know is what I've seen from the Patriots
this year, And if I was the Raiders, I would
be trying to get gente on screens and I would
(24:12):
I would have Bowers in the crossas the whole time.
And I'm sure that they will do that. That's why
it's I just don't want them to sleep on Thornton
and Tucker.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I think Mike is that's it. I think Mike's game plan.
Is it that to me is running the ball by
the way genty on screens and yeah, sure, short throws
to Bowers. That's basically an extension of the running game.
But especially the screens, because I.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Mean, if I'm reading what people are writing about the
Patriots defense this summer, I'm expecting an aggressive defense that
you're not going to be able to drop back and
launch it. You got to hope that over the course
of the beginning of the game that the screens and
the short stuff and the running at genty gets the
Patriots defense so locked up on that that you know,
you got a rookie Craig Woodson who all of a sudden,
(24:52):
here goes Trey Tucker right by you, and you know that.
To me, you're gonna win a low scoring game. If
you can prevent that, then I think you have a
chance to. But if you start giving up even just
a couple of big plays, I mean you mentioned the
big scu Hey, let me the DK metcalf that changed.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Let me ask it. Let me ask this question. You're
Mike Vrabel. You've got three days, three four days left
before the game. Which side of the ball are you
most paying attention to? Right? Now for you, for my own,
for my own team, for my own team, whose meetings
are you attending more m offense?
Speaker 2 (25:25):
I think you he trust Terrell Williams, and I mean
not to say he doesn't trust Josh mctaniels, but I
just I think you have to trust your defense, but
you have to believe your offense can win the game.
And that's where I would no matter what happens with
our defense, if we score on off points, we're gonna
win the game. So I'd lean offense, right.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
I think he's gonna lean defense. I think he's gonna
put his thumbprint on this game more on defense than offense.
And let Josh cook Yeah, I mean, what do you think, Paul?
Speaker 6 (25:55):
I think to go either way because a lot of
the guys he brought in on defense are like his guys,
So maybe there's that level of comfortability where he's like, Okay,
I don't need to spend as much time here because
they understand like my system. Yeah, so let me go
over here. But I but it could go.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
No, You're right about his guys, But in doing so,
I think he has a vision for this defense, whereas
the offense is probably going to be more Josh's vision.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, I mean, I hear what you're saying, Fred. I
just I think that there's more. If I'm a head coach,
there's more for me to say. All right, So what
are we doing on third down? If they bring Crosby
and Butler over here and they're gonna be running stunts
off this office side with our two rookies that that
are expected to start, You know, that's a big concern
to me. You know, how much are we going to
play Diggs? Is he ready to go every snap? And
(26:42):
we want, you know, which would be good for the offense?
I think to have him out there always as a threat.
How are we going to rotate guys in? Do we
need to is is Morgan Moses on a pitch count?
Does he Is he going to need to you know,
take some snaps off? Or we're gonna have to put
in Marcus Bryan in there for a little bit. You know,
like all those question how are we gonna justvon? We
don't want to put him in a bad position. So
(27:03):
I don't know that's to me. I mean maybe that's
just how I'm wired. Because the defense, I feel like
I trust Robert Splaine, I trust these these veterans that
I have to go after it, and it's an aggressive scheme,
go attack. Like there's not a lot to say, but
there's a lot of in my mind, variables on offense
that you need to manage.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Do you think this this game will be declared early?
Not not who's gonna win or not, but the style
of the game.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I'm going to say no. I'm going to say it's
a weird Week one game where you know there's ebbs
and flows, and you know, maybe a weird turnover, and
you know there just might be some sloppiness that ever
prevents you from really getting a beat on. This is
what this game is, right, I mean, maybe it will,
but I just expect some weird swings.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
I totally agree with the Week one stuff that Belichick
always talked about, but I do feel both teams are
going to want to run the ball. Fred I, if
I were I agree with you, I would want to
throw the ball. But that's me virtually every game. I think,
if I want to try to score points, that's how
you do Dan Pastorini. Yeah, but get a lead and
then you want to run the ball to put the
game away, like do it the other way. So many
(28:04):
teams want to come out and take pressure off their quarterback.
I think it does the opposite. I think it creates
a lot of third and eights for your quarterback that
you exactly what you don't want to be in. Whereas
you know, nice little play action pass for like seven
yards on first down, that's taking the pressure off your quarterback,
giving him an easy throw to get ahead of the chains,
(28:25):
and then you're you know, making easier conversions on third downs.
That's how I think you take pressure off your quarterback.
And I think a lot of times teams do it
the other way. They try to run the ball and
play defense and conservative. Now you're in a low scoring
slug fest, and I kind of think it's going to
declare to something like that.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yeah, it might be hard to determine, but I'm just
interested to see how Drake is different with Josh and
his ear and going through stuff with him. It seems
like it'll be a very different game experience for Drake,
not just because Josh will be in his ear, but
having to make calls and a little bit more on
his plate. Does it change his style at all? Getting
hard at discern, I don't really not sure how you
(29:07):
would you excited.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
This is like, you know, I guess it's like that
this every year.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
But yeah, I get checked up for the start of
every season. I absolutely do.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
But you know, there's so much unknown here. I mean,
it's all kind of new.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
And that's why I felt going through the games this
weekend over the whole across the whole league, where it's
just so many teams that are evenly matched or have
really i mean the Jets and the Steelers like flip
flop quarterbacks. You know, there's so many weird things like
that going on. It's just it's so hard to make
a prediction what's going to happen. I'm like, this is
a chemistry experiment.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
I don't know, it's like the old the old exercise
in school when you know you're you're asked to sort
of make an argument for two things. You know, make
time to shine there, make an argument for the Giants
being a playoff.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
I mean, I've heard I've heard people.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Talk about the Giants as being but then at the
same time, they have on paper, the most difficult schedule
in football, So you know, make an argue and against it.
Well that's it. You know, they don't really have the
solved their quarterback yet even if Jackson Dart ends up
being the starter, you know, so like you could do
that with so many.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Teams up and down the league. Yeah, yeap. So it's
exciting and I love you. Just want to see how
it all unfolds.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Because as little as I'm interested in divisional matchups like
Dallas and Philly, tonight, I'll be glued. At eight o'clock,
I'll be you know whatever, A twenty start is it Like,
I'll be ready to go have a great match. I
can't wait. Yeah, the title Now, I don't know if
I'll make it to the second half. I hear that,
the second second half.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I hear that. All right, So you.
Speaker 7 (30:37):
Sound like a seven pm coffee.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Oh we're all excited. Anyone have anything special plan for tonight?
Not chows.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
I don't have anything special plan.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Also, I think I might have to get you going.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
I gave you a little your recipe for you. I
wasn't really a small I might have you like right
up a rescue.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Like ingredients like I need that for the newsletter.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
I think today it would have been perfect if you
could have actually seen me do it. It was literally
I know exactly why I was I was starving, and
was it all in the house. I was starving. I'm like,
there wasn't even any real chipsty like just the tosedos.
So I grabbed them and I'm like, I just dumped
(31:27):
the whole thing out because I was like, I'm not
going to put a handful. I'm just gonna dump the
whole thing. And I'm like, I hope we didn't hurt anybody.
So and then I'm like looking into refrigerating this like
shredded cheese.
Speaker 7 (31:39):
There you go, even like Mexican.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
It was, it was, it was. And then I got
some salsa and like put like spoonfuls here in there.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Tues after school in high school, snack all day long,
microwave nachos.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
I put them in the actual oven, convection regular oven.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
But like your oven isn't all so a convection oven,
I don't think. So there's no button that says convection.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I don't think so many are most are now.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
You just probably don't.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Yeah, what would be the difference?
Speaker 3 (32:12):
It circulates air while it's baking, So Mike, so holy Cross.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Every once in a while, I don't know if me,
if I are finishing each other's sentences.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Yet yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Air fire too were pretty good with that.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
A lot of people swear by the air fry.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
So the air fryer, to me, would not have made
enough nachos.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
For my liking I size cookie.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
I had a cookie sheet going oh yeah, well listen,
and then I made a couple of sandwiches and handleton listen.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Eating is a tradition in the Perillo household, and football
fans know that traditions matter, turning moments together into something
truly epic. There would inspire us to make our masa
in tostitos the traditional way, starting with whole corn kernels,
no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, all to give you
that perfect crunch. Discover your next tradition this football season.
(33:05):
Head to the store, grab your Tostito's team bag and
scan the code for a chance to win epic experiences
with the Patriots. Tostito's tradition matters. So yeah, I might.
I might pop some tostitos in the oven tonight.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
I love a good nacho plate. There is just I
order one off the appetizer menu a lot at the restaurant.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Sometimes I have a restaurant and for my meal I'll.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
If and I will get nachos a lot, just you know,
if we're like, you know, not a fancy place, but
just you know, real quick to get an app and
we'll pick that nachos better than others.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
You have to be able to figure out how to
get the cheese layered so that it's not all.
Speaker 7 (33:44):
Making it is the best. I go all.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
Out, like I didn't do it right then.
Speaker 6 (33:49):
Now my garden if I don't or show the store
because I think actually the pickled ones are the best
in the jar for nacho purposes. Yeah, but like stick
back exactly and then you just like layer it, you know,
like every ingredient.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Make your own chips. I'll do that. I'll make my
own chips.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
I've done it with my mom. I've done it with
my mom. But it's too much business.
Speaker 5 (34:13):
It is a lot of bits.
Speaker 7 (34:14):
But I got a small kitchen.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
This guy make your own making his own chips.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Just take a tortilla, cut it up, fry it up,
and some.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Fry and I think I've done something. This guy's making
his own shop.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Well, spend some time in California, you know, yeah, the quality.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
Well, today is a big day because in Hartford Connecticut.
It's the Lake Cruise Ahouse sale. I have my friend
ground right now, all the stuff on my wish.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
I'm sorry, what the great they had a great Dutch
of him.
Speaker 7 (34:45):
A Dutch of it is not when you under the
I do.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
That's the only Dutch of it. I know what a
Duch of it is.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
I do all that to say.
Speaker 6 (34:54):
My friend just secured a really like heavy bottom, nice
casserole dish for me in the color shower.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
It is a color.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
Yeah, it's like a light, beautiful purple like the outside
of a shallotte would be. And uh yeah, so I
was looking for an excuse to use it tonight.
Speaker 7 (35:09):
I didn't know what to make them.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah, I can't keep track of all the different kind
of Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
I was never a big walk pearl. Love it.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
I love it. And uh sorry I'm dragging this on.
But my wife just made this new thing where it's
avocado cattage cheese, there's pickles in it cilantro and it's
this little salad and it was so California.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
You are so California though, all right.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Natcho Talk eight five five past five hundred is the
hotline podcast at Patriots dot Com. Jacket and Arbor says
a Paul Wore a TV show, it'd be entitled Curb
Your Enthusiast. I'm very excited to see the new England
Patriots debut of Stefan Diggs. He's the best receiver to
wear a Patriot's uniform in years. He will keep defenses
honest by stretching the field and give Drake May a
(35:57):
reliable weapon in red zone and third down situations.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
I don't know about I told you, Fred, that's the
way people are thinking. That's okay, Jack and and Arbor,
thank you, Okay. People are excited. They haven't really had
a top receiver in a long time.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
I agree. I agree.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
I'm hearing people talk, you know, like sort of finger
wagging the media for not giving the wide receiver group
in general enough props. And I keep poo pooing it
by saying, what do you got after Diggs?
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Yeah, well, like, okay, so let's talk about it.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
But that's but that's my point is there's a lot
of excitement for Diggs.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
What should we be expecting from mac Collins.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I think he's gonna have a good year. I mean,
he's been incredibly productive in the preseason. He's one another
one of those kind of X factors to me, and
I get Paul's point. I think where I land on
all this wide receiver talk is just is there enough
there for Drake to improve and to make a push
and to compete. I think there is right now. I
don't think that you're gonna come out of the season.
We just don't know because he no, I agree with me, No,
(36:57):
I think there's enough there still.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
I think that has been eliminated with the sign of
Stefan Diggs. Yeah, I agree with Mike.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
You set up Drake to take a step forward. I
think that's the best you can do. They still need more.
I'd love to see Kyle Williams get out there and
see what he can develop into. But going back to
your original question, I think Matt Collins will bring a
presence on the outside and will be I'm just saying
it now. And Raiders, if you're listening, tune.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Out right now.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
But like every first down from the thirty ind they're
gonna be a fade to Mac Collins. Like I feel
like that's just in Josh's DNA, even going back to
his last time where you just knew, like DeVante Parker
back then, like here we go, here comes the shots
to the end zone. That's what they're gonna do, MATC Collins,
they'll probably have a you know, five six touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
I would BET's size, you know, he's.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Yeah, he's a different kind of receiver, but I think
he takes the boorn role, like that sort of secondary
guy that can be productive. Different kind of player. Born
is quicker, smaller, you know, in Hollins, I think is
a little bit more straight line speed with the size. Yeah,
so totally different kind of players, but veteran complimentary piece.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah, I mean, I just like that he'll bring a
presence on the outside. I think it's something they need.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
Well, Kyle Williams play in this game, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
I think I think so.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
I mean, I know, I didn't expect a lot of
people to play. I mean I meant that in like
crunch time, but I think a lot of a lot
of people will will play, you know, the key on
Whites of the world, the Anthony Jennings of the world.
You know, I'm most curious about Dougar. Just tell me
what what what does that look like? Does he have
a role on defense or does he just get like
some rotational snaps to you know, get Hawkins or Woodson
(38:33):
some time out.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
All right, A five five past five hundred. Let's go
to the phones. We'll start with Sean and Vancouver. What's
up Sean?
Speaker 9 (38:41):
Hey, guys, I'm looking forward to being at the game.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
I guess so you've been on hold since yesterday.
Speaker 10 (38:49):
That's great.
Speaker 9 (38:51):
So I'm excited about Diggs and it's it's looking better
than because when he's signed, I thought, Okay, he'll probably
be on the pop to start the season, and now
he's going he should be ready for Game one, and uh,
that's that's really great. One thing, and I don't know
if I'm going to be right, but one thing I
(39:11):
kind of have a feeling about is Digs little lead
in yards, but I think, uh, pop will lead in
in receptions. Does that sound crazy to you? I'll let
you go so that I know you. You got to hurry,
so enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Okay, I hear what you're saying. But I think that
if Diggs leads in yards, he will also be leading
in receptions because I don't think his catches are going
to be you know, the long form like the old Digs.
I think there'll be more of the crossers and shallow stuff,
and so in order to get you know, the yards,
(39:47):
he's going to need a lot of receptions.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
I think I generally, I think I generally agree with that.
I'd see it more as Edelman and Amadola and you know,
can Pop Douglas chip in in key spots as a
second kind of slot guy. I think that's a good
role for now.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
When you look at Edelman and Amadola, Adla's probably yards
per catch was more than Edelman's, I would.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Say, yeah, I mean, I mean was similar, But yeah,
I think the volume overall of you know, Edelman's definitely
the engine, got to have a moment, but you know,
you have a secondary, reliable guy in Pop Douglas that
can probably get open pretty quick and you know, give
you that quick ball, get it out, quick game stuff
that I think will mostly go to Diggs. Yeah, I agree.
(40:29):
I think Diggs will lead in both receptions and yards
provided that he stays healthy. Obviously a big, big if,
but I would be surprised if he's not the the
leading target guy, which is going to lead to more catches,
more yards.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Let's see Brian's in Lowell. What's up Brian? Brian going
on Lowell? Phones are down and lowell. All right, maybe
try to call back. Eldred's on the phone. What's up? Aldred?
Speaker 8 (41:02):
Hey, Alex, Fred, Mike, how y'all doing good?
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Hell?
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Paul?
Speaker 8 (41:07):
Hey, hey Paul? You look wrong? Bro? He like throwing
it too. Yeah, he little roung with Carol. He likes
running it, but that ain't the only way he likes winning.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Okay, we'll see.
Speaker 8 (41:18):
I'm I'm more questioned about the secondary without Gunzo. And
if I think Evan said yesterday that Dante had a good,
good camp with them, that's what That's the other reason
I wanted. But everybody passed on. I'm just going about
to speak because he got to work running Brunning by
the secondary Donte Thornton for the Raiders. That's what I'm worried.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Yeah, okay, all right, I'll let you go with that.
All right, thanks Aldred? All right, and he give us
a prediction I should have asked. All right, Now let's
go to Christian in l A.
Speaker 11 (41:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (41:57):
Hey you guys, Hey, you know, I'm not so certain
why you While you guys are so excited like it
so sort of sunshine and rainbows, I'm actually worried. We
we are going into week number one, with the offensive
line that is unproven and untested, with a guy on
the left who's got kind of short arms. That's when
against Mac Tarby, Max Crubbs is gonna line up, line
(42:19):
up and go at him all day. We have a
quarterback who forgive me for saying patriot Land is unproven
and unknown. Yet it's easy for a guy who has
some decent skills and no one has Taypon to get
in for four or five games at the end of
the season and do decently. We have not seen him
do decently in our our preseason in practice, I haven't
(42:42):
heard anything super positive about Drake MAYBERSI oh yeah, he's
really comfortable and he looks like we have a wide
receiving number one who could possibly be washed up, a
wide receiving number two.
Speaker 4 (42:54):
I don't watch Christian. Can I just ask you something
and also stop for Kenny. Would would you feel better
if you were hearing stuff that was positive or would
you wait until you saw it yourself.
Speaker 10 (43:10):
Hearing something like?
Speaker 4 (43:11):
You know, see, I completely disregard people when they tell
me stuff like that if I haven't seen it, Like
I'm going to watch a game, you know, like I'm sorry,
I just don't necessarily believe. Like if I were to
believe what I'm hearing from ESPN about Cleveland all year,
I would think should Do a Sanders is on the
verge of a Pro Bowl season, But yet he's listed
(43:33):
at like fourth on the depth chart by the people
that are actually doing the stuff for Cleveland. So it
doesn't make me feel better if I'm a should Do
a Sanders fan that ESPN is saying all these wonderful
things about shed with Sanders when Cleveland doesn't think he's
better than any of the guys on their office. Dylan
Gabriel is ahead of them on the depth chart, and
I don't think that much of Dylan Gabriel. So I
(43:55):
don't know why, like someone saying something would affect your ination.
And I think you're being ingenuous because I think if
we were saying all these nice things, you'd be saying
that we're just doing sunshine and rainbows and trying to
put lipstick on a page.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
But I think Christian, I understand that a lot of
this is unknown, but that's kind of what makes me excited.
It's like I don't know about the intrigue, right.
Speaker 10 (44:16):
Right, You guys don't worry that our number one cornerback
it's not going to be there.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
Of course we're are so worried.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
So why all the false bravado.
Speaker 4 (44:28):
Where's the false bravado coming.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
It's not like we're sitting up here, go Patriots by
fifth fifty.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
That would be false. Come on, this game could go away.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm walking out right now.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
All right, Mike, I don't blame you, Mike, Mike, I
don't blame you at all.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
To the locker room holy cross. All right.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
No, in all seriousness, this game is a toss up game.
We've been talking all week that it was like two
and a half point spread. I think right now, let
a little cat out of the bag for this will
make you feel better. It's up to three. Okay, the
line move from two and a half to three. That
means people are betting the Patriots right and wanting to
just stop you before you did something right to hurt yourself.
(45:08):
Where's the money money's coming in? So this game could
go either way. I think ESPN's FPI thing that does
the game says the Patriots have a fifty two percent
chance of winning. I like it, so like take it.
That's a coin for so No, there's no false bravado. No,
that's just trolling. He's like, no one is sitting here
saying Patriots forty eight to eleven.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Like that's false perv. That's why I let him go.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
This could go This game could go either way. It
was the call with some of us on this show
are not even picking the Patriots to win? Is that right?
Speaker 3 (45:41):
Well we'll find out around one thirty who that might be.
All right, I'm gonna take a break. Christian's phone call
made me hungry when we come back and calls and
emails and uh what else? Whatever else we do? All right,

Good a man away, Good, good, good.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Your thoughts on the Major's defense from what you've studied
and the challenges that they want?
Speaker 11 (48:11):
Yeah, I think you know, first off, you know, with
what coach Carroll has done and in this league, they've
had some great differences. And obviously his scheme and obviously
the one you know, crowdy you know, jumps out on tape.
And they got some veteran some veteran linebackers, some guys
that we're playing, play hard and you know, come up
and hit you. And I think that they do, they're
they're good at what they do. I think you're gonna know,
(48:32):
they're gonna, you know, bring it every play. And I
think for us, we just gotta stay ahead of the
chains and uh try to do our best to you know,
get off to a good start and then uh, like
I said, just follow our keys and and uh, you.
Speaker 15 (48:43):
Know, No ninety eight.
Speaker 11 (48:44):
You know he's a great player in this league. Plays hard,
he know, plays a lot of effort. And they got
a veteran, you know, a couple veteran safeties, so who's
made some plays and good ball skills. So we gotta
you gotta be on our game. It's gonna be out
there in your week one, you know, turn at home.
So I'm excited and looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
It comes to Crosby.
Speaker 16 (49:01):
A lot of people look at the offensive line and
how they handle them, but how can the rest of
the offense maybe neutralize what.
Speaker 15 (49:08):
He's able to do on Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 11 (49:10):
I think it's hard to me, you know, getting the
ball out on time, you know, not holding it, you know,
no one, don't.
Speaker 15 (49:14):
You know bypass? You know, the first guy open, I
see the open, trying to hunt a deeper one.
Speaker 11 (49:19):
You'll help, you know different, you know, the running backs
can help, you know, in the protection. You know, I
think little things like that, and I think scheme.
Speaker 15 (49:25):
I think me just getting us.
Speaker 11 (49:26):
In the right plays and and knowing when he's one
on one and knowing when you know we have help
to him and I think, uh, from there, just like
I said, for our keys and know if it's emphasis
for us this week, then just you'll follow that and
stay true to it.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Right.
Speaker 6 (49:38):
Are you comfortable enough getting the new office, the new
offense to.
Speaker 4 (49:43):
Be able to make those kind of quick freeds and
get rid of love quickly?
Speaker 7 (49:47):
I you that comfortable with you know the offense and
being able to read the defense.
Speaker 15 (49:54):
What's gonna fit es ma'am.
Speaker 11 (49:55):
Yeah, I think that's that's part of what we you know,
watch film who as part of what we come out
here and practice for is you know, no one, no
one checkdowns and no one hey you know my first look.
If they're giving it to me, you'll take it. And
I think that's the best part of playing quarterback in
this league. Find completions and I feel confident in myself.
I feel like at times last year when I got
the ball out on time and you've got the ball
(50:15):
to the right guy, we moved the ball well. So
I think just trying to you know, start off this
season with that mindset and like I said, stay ahead
of the chains and do my part and you'll find
completions and not holding the.
Speaker 4 (50:24):
Ball like getting stuffin famous this off season and hop
sent of him just to start.
Speaker 11 (50:30):
It's been an awesome to bomb with such a high level player.
I think it's you know, continue to show us as
a game, you know, game weeknd and game day comes
close from closer, the kind of how much he's elevating
his game and elevating.
Speaker 15 (50:41):
His practice style.
Speaker 11 (50:42):
So you know, it's I'm looking forward to green out
there with him on Sunday, and I think you'll see, uh,
you know, a good energy from from Steph and I'm
looking forward to get him the rock and and and
let him do his thing.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
You you veteran player learned dot call and what kind
of ads see brings the offense.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
And he's third.
Speaker 15 (51:00):
Yeah, it's constant.
Speaker 11 (51:01):
I think it's the best thing you see about you know,
mag He brings it every day. You know, it's no
off days, and you know he's he's working extra. He's
you know, drawing up plays and asking me to you know,
come to extra walkthroughs and and doing things that you
will show up on Sundays and show up in practice.
So I think from that, you know, you know, what
else would you expect from from a tar heel. So
he's just got to brought a great energy to the room.
(51:23):
You know, veteran does all the right things, you know,
blocks in the run game, and I think he's, uh,
you're gonna be rewarded with you know, being in there
and making plays great.
Speaker 3 (51:30):
Josh his coach against the defense can Ford times he
con't have.
Speaker 5 (51:39):
The things I've.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
Seen players and have you got that?
Speaker 11 (51:46):
Yeah, going back watching Super Bowl, going back watching the
COVID game with Cam when nobody in the stands. Yeah,
I think it's great having you know, coach McDaniels, who's
you know, played against his defense and and uh, you
know knows knows some extra little tidbits for me to know,
whether it's in the huddle or before on this play.
I think it's great to you know, have you know,
play color in the corner. Who's you know, play against
(52:08):
the scheme in the Super Bowl? And I studied a
lot and I think that's with you know, a lot
of corners in this league's played against him and seen him.
Speaker 15 (52:13):
And I think.
Speaker 11 (52:15):
It's great to have that in the room and you'll
see what he's kind of getting on the same page
with him as what you're seeing and try to catch up,
you know, as as much as I can to his level.
I'm not gonna get there, but try to just of
hind or understanding of hey, I think they're gonna do this,
or hey, so what I think they're going to be
in and then from there watching gold games, watching Cam Newton,
watching Tom in the Super Bowl is pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (52:34):
What do you think learning front year?
Speaker 14 (52:36):
You know Captain Hunter, Harry just seeing help lead this.
Speaker 15 (52:39):
Team professional saying yeah. And I think Hunter just just
a positive energy he brings to the huddle.
Speaker 11 (52:45):
I think, you know, with me balancing that with kind
of being serned in the huddle and knowing that, hey,
I gotta get these guys going, I think just bringing,
you know, the positive energy. And I think Hunter is
the things about Hunter, he was one of the best
friends on the team. He just shows up every day.
He loves he loves football. I guess that's kind of
what I'm learning from from Hunter. He doesn't do it
for anything else, for the love of the game. Where
(53:06):
he's running a clear out route or catching the seam
ball or blocking the run game, he does it out
of sure joor of wanting to win. I think we
both share that same mindset want to win.
Speaker 10 (53:17):
Top.
Speaker 7 (53:18):
You know, your teammates have voted on toward you.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
To kind of leave.
Speaker 15 (53:22):
I think he's a great honor. I think, you know,
I think it means something, you know, playing with the
C on her chest.
Speaker 11 (53:26):
And I think you'll learned that from from Jacoby Jacoby
last year and some of those guys you know, David
Andrews in the past, and I think it's something that
you don't take lightly. And so, you know, great honor
from your teammates and a team vote, and I think
it's it's something that often I feel like the starting
quarterback can kind of we'll say next our gifted it.
(53:46):
But I think it's kind of one of those things
where I think you go out there and earn it
and prove to him I'm captain. And that's kind of
my mindset of proving to them of being a leader
on this team. And I think I'm not taking it
as a gift. That's learn about matarials. I wouldn't say yet.
I wouldn't say yet. I think, uh, you know, it
was it was tough watching that Monday night. They uh,
(54:07):
that first drive looked good. But you know, I think
I'm I'm I'm counting on those guys and and coaches
and I'll be tuned in all season.
Speaker 16 (54:14):
So Drake, in the past than this offense, not just
Fectames but phill O'Bryan, the relationship between the quarterback and
the play collar and the offensive coordinator, there was a
lot of give and take as far as input on
what you guys wanted to do in that game plan.
Are you at that point yet or is it more
of a one way.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
Stream with Gamage.
Speaker 15 (54:33):
Yeah. I think that's something you build, you know, throughout
the season.
Speaker 11 (54:35):
I think it's something that I think he valued in
my opinion, especially on the plays, and I think he
valued my opinion.
Speaker 15 (54:40):
And hey, I'm you know, out of this formation, right
of this look. I like this stuff. And I think
it's something that kind of throughout the season. I think
you can kind of.
Speaker 11 (54:48):
Say, hey, I think what about this play, Remember we
ran it back in this week.
Speaker 15 (54:51):
I think it's something that you can kind of build
and uh, you know, build trust. I think the trust
is there.
Speaker 11 (54:55):
I think it's just for me of just continue growing
and seeing, hey, let's do this against you this defense
and continue to find out, you know what things I
like and I think you know for right now, just
trusting whatever he's got in and let them know what
I like and and give an input here and there.
Speaker 15 (55:09):
Hey I like this, I like that. So I talked
about gigs and calls IVC from.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
And now great moments in.
Speaker 3 (55:21):
History.
Speaker 14 (55:22):
Most wine drinkers see no value in playing with the cork,
but it's a nice tradition.
Speaker 7 (55:25):
It makes a good souvenir.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
I've seen it done.
Speaker 3 (55:28):
Oh, I've seen it that all the time. Because people
don't really know what they're doing with wine.
Speaker 17 (55:33):
Uh, your idiocy knows no bounds.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
So you just keep the cork to you no more
than wine spectator. Is that what you're saying.
Speaker 17 (55:42):
I'm saying that at good restaurants, they give you the
course somelias. Yes, have told me you smell the cork
for an immediate test as to whether the wine has
gone bad or not.
Speaker 3 (55:55):
I don't know. Yeah, it's ever said that to you,
or if they don't know, they walk away and laughed
at you. You know what I just told that guy?
Speaker 17 (56:04):
Okay, the wine dude, Okay, you all know better than
you know.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
What Cabernet seven. You know, I can tell the difference
of a good one in a bad one. That's about
as far as I go.
Speaker 4 (56:14):
What's your test?
Speaker 2 (56:15):
What's your barometer for whether it's good or not?
Speaker 3 (56:17):
Just how it feels in my mouth.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
That's another great moment, all right.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Welcome back to Patriots Unfiltered at eight five five past
five hundred. Is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
Is the email address we're talking.
Speaker 12 (56:36):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
Yeah, good stuff. We're talking raiders coming up on Sunday.
Some of us are excited. Some of us have tempered
their excitement. But that's okay, that's all right.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
What who's tempering their excitement? Just out of care?
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Just people can decide from themselves, just from the just
one off.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
That was a shot. Because I'm jack for the start
of the secay.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
So Mike is off to the locker room. He'll be back.
Evan is out doing his thing. We're going to be
doing picks at one thirty. So that's great. Just so
people know, And let me see if I can find
his email trying to find Boston Creams. Well, you know what,
I don't need to go to his email. Boston Creams
(57:19):
on the line, so let's go right to him. What's up,
Boston cream.
Speaker 18 (57:23):
Hey, guys, I'm gonna have to find Christian in la
one dollars in a first round draft pick for trying
to deflate deplayed us before the season started.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
We should call him to flate Kate.
Speaker 10 (57:36):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 18 (57:39):
In terms for the fan pick him, we have about
ninety spots left. It's capped at five hundred, so only
the first five hundred fine folks can join.
Speaker 10 (57:50):
Our link to join.
Speaker 18 (57:52):
Is going to be TinyURL dot com slash Patriots unfiltered.
Signyurl dot com.
Speaker 10 (58:02):
Slash Patriots on filtered.
Speaker 18 (58:04):
There's a lot of very excited Patriots on filters fans
who are also now in a giant group chat, which
is a unique bonus that was unforeseen. So if you're
looking to join, you have to do such quick.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
Okay, so there's only ninety slots out of five hundred left,
Now that's pretty good. We just announced that yesterday TinyURL
dot com slash Patriots unfiltered. That is it. So how
that will work? People will do their picks on that
app and then next week we'll go to the app
and say, Okay, you know, so and so did really well,
(58:39):
they had a better record than than us, or they're
right in the mix or whatever.
Speaker 4 (58:43):
So that's well, there's gonna be five hundred people. I'm
gonna guess there's gonna be a lot of people that
have better records than us.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
So I'm hoping that when you sign up, you sign
up in a way that we recognize who you are.
If you're a frequent email or a caller, you know.
Speaker 18 (58:57):
That's a good point spread people should change if they
listen and call into the show, maybe their name and
where they're from, i e. Christian in LA. That way,
maybe it's a little more recognizable when you guys take
a look, I will say a lot of people have
done that.
Speaker 6 (59:12):
Okay, great, all right now, Boston Cream, Should I put
the link you sent me and just said in the
newsletter or do you think it'll be too late by
that point tomorrow?
Speaker 18 (59:24):
I think it's going to be too late. I think
if there's any interest to do a like a post
week one league and people want to feel included but
they don't want to be in the main one, we
can do that. But it's going to be I would
anticipate the league is going to be filled within the
next probably two hours.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
Probably in two minutes after we've just announced the URL yeah, I.
Speaker 7 (59:48):
Can believe that many people already signed up.
Speaker 18 (59:49):
Thanks for letting me share, guys, and best of luck
to everyone in the league, and go Patriots.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Okay, there's T shirts on at stay here.
Speaker 5 (59:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (59:58):
Should we do like a weekly T shirt?
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Why not? And then nothing else to do?
Speaker 7 (01:00:03):
I feel like we do something big for the winner.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
The overall season win. Yeah, two T shirts, one that fits,
or like.
Speaker 7 (01:00:14):
A custom T shirt like Patriots.
Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
Champion or something about customizing.
Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:00:21):
Or they come in and like get to watch the
show or something something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
An experience. Comfortable experiences are big now. You know credit
cards that you get points in your earn experiences, sporting events,
you know about that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
I do know about it. But I like to be
behind the velvet ropes like Andy.
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
Yeah, well the experience would be meeting you behind the
velvet rope.
Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
That's what I'm looking to avoid.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Well, all right, Mike and Long Island. What's up, Mike,
Hey guys, great show. There you go. That's all right,
good good, yup.
Speaker 18 (01:01:02):
I know you got to hurry, so all hang up.
Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
Okay, thanks thanks Mike, common comic comedic style, and I
love Mike and Long. I love England. That was very
well done.
Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
Will In Cranston writes in at podcasts at Patriots dot Com,
I have no idea how as a Patriots fan, how
people are not super excited. There are so many reasons
this game should be awesome. Campbell versus Max Davis versus Bowers,
Pop and Digs versus, a questionable secondary, a new regime
under Rabo, a playmaker group of running backs, and a perennial,
(01:01:36):
perennially underrated tight end in Hunter Henry In a growing
quarterback and rookie room who wants to prove it. I'm pumped.
Let's go Patriots. Let's take the East.
Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
I love it is that the proper amount of excitement.
Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
Yes, absolutely good.
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
You guys are coming through Jackie ann Arbor. That email
in Cranston, I forget the first name.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
What was his name?
Speaker 4 (01:01:59):
Will and Kranston, Well, well that's good. Good job you
met Fred stamp of approval. Good job yep.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Joseph is the biggest Patriots fan in Hillsboro, Oregon. Self proclaimed,
he says, from each of the panel, what is the
one realistic thing that we could see on Sunday that
you would give that would give you the most optimism
for how the rest of the season will go outside
of Drake May looking like a franchise quarterback. For me,
it would be Campbell and Wilson starting on the left
(01:02:29):
side and holding up well in pass protection. That's a
good one. Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (01:02:34):
Mean that's tough without the answer, he's right by taking
away the obvious. Yeah, but that's the one thing that
would leave me to believe they could have a better season,
would be Drake May looking the part. Other than that,
how about Chrevon Henderson is as electric as we all
think he's going to be that we've seen in the preseason.
(01:02:55):
All of a sudden he gets the ten to fifteen
touches that we're talking about, and he makes some plays,
big plays.
Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
I mean mine would be Diggs, you know, ten twelve
catches or whatever you know, or more.
Speaker 6 (01:03:08):
I feel like mine is the listener or the emailers
example of the O line. I think if that's secure,
everything else kind of yep, can build off that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
Yeah, there's a lot of things that a lot of
people will be jumping to conclusions on both sides, good
or bad after this game, which you know, people should
probably caution because I remember this time last year after
the Cincinnati game.
Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
It's not really showing the proper amount of enthusiasm.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Fred No, But like more so, I'm saying that in
case things aren't good.
Speaker 4 (01:03:44):
Right, that's good, that's good fun. Yeah now, but you're right, Yeah,
I keep talking about that. With regard to the draft classes.
Draft class, everybody is gaga over because all these guys
are going to be playing right away. And I just
would caution that all the guys that played right away
last year, you told me how wonderful that was as
(01:04:05):
a sign, and by the end of the year you
looked at it a lot differently that that opener last
year against Cincinnati. It was certainly you know, unexpected.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Yeah, yeah, they play.
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
If you drew any conclusion, they're going to be able
to run the ball like that against anyone, that would
have been your takeaway from that game, that physicality travels,
that plays.
Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Like no doesn't.
Speaker 15 (01:04:30):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
So, like I said, a lot of conclusions will be
made after this game that will probably be wrong. Was
that both sides.
Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
Was that the game where we had like a full
Baldi's breakdown about was it Ladon Robinson or was that
a different game.
Speaker 4 (01:04:46):
I don't know about Baldi's breakdown, but there's There were
a lot of people that were like, you can win
like that, you know, you can just line up and
be physically.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Baldy did do a breakdown. I don't know if it
was about Laydon Robinson, but I remember him doing something
I remember doing my I reposted it because I was like, yeah,
I remember doing.
Speaker 4 (01:05:02):
My hit with with Mike and Tony the next week
and the whole thing. You know, they were skeptical that
they could continue to play like that and week in
and week out. Yeah, no, no, they were skeptical they
could play the way they played that way, keep that
level of play. And I saw if they play like
that every week, they're gonna lose more games than they win.
That isn't sustainable to win. You can't just run the
(01:05:25):
ball and not make any plays in the passing game
and hope the other team fumbles going into the end
zone and expect to win every week. You know, you're
not gonna win sixteen to ten every week because the
other team poops itself. That was the unsustainable.
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
The exact words where it's a tough way to live.
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
It's a tough way to live, exactly right.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
James, the most interesting Patriots fan of the World says,
I remember the days of the double by we mock
a fan base for being overly excited coming off two
four win seasons. Remember what we said about the Eagles
dream team all those years ago. I understand why you
do it, Fred, But that behaved is for NFL peasantry.
We're Patriots fans, we are Swans in the water. We
(01:06:05):
know success.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
Oh come on, I'm with you, Fred, Come on, that's
your problem.
Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
We're starting.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
That's your problem.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
We're starting a new here.
Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
This is not we can't use the bar of Tom
Brady anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
Like we can't be looking down at other teams fan
bases for being enthusiastic and excited about the start of
a new season, right we like, you're not them anymore?
Ye like this whole peasantry thing. I yeah, did the
last five years not happen? Or how many years would it?
(01:06:40):
Will it be before someone says, okay, all right, we're
just like James.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Over the last two years, we were peasants.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
And we're just like everybody else. You're going to go
into a new season hoping you're that you've improved, hoping
that Drake made is the guy that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
To me is we may have we may have royalty
going through our are veins, but we need to get
back up there. We haven't earned it yet.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Like you, you and Alex were talking about sort of
the excitement of the new season. Isn't that what being
a fan is all about. Every year offers new hope. Yep,
it doesn't matter that you went four and thirteen last year.
We got to be excited about this is going to
be different. Mike Rabel's here now, Josh McDaniels is taking
care of Drake May, and they're going to be better.
That's I don't know why you wouldn't look at it
(01:07:26):
like that as a fan, and why you would think
that that's embarrassing, like that makes you a peasant. I
don't get that. I believe he called the peasantry of well,
the teams that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
Think like he's very high brow, do you know what
I mean?
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
That's like the way that the way that you've.
Speaker 7 (01:07:39):
Met James right, I have a meendim Bro correspondent, like.
Speaker 4 (01:07:42):
The like the Browns, right, the Browns right now, they're
probably not expected to do anything. You don't think, you know,
diehard Cleveland fans are like, well, you know, if you
know Flacco gets off to a good start, they might
be able to win some games. The defense has some
talent with Miles Garrett and right, why would when you
think like that as a fan?
Speaker 7 (01:08:01):
Sure, because we're miserable here, some of us are. I'm
not personally, I'm not. You are not trying to be
very optimistic at all times.
Speaker 4 (01:08:14):
I try to be realistic. But I don't think there's
anything wrong with being optimistic. I just feel like that's
part of being a fan. Why it's fanatic?
Speaker 6 (01:08:22):
Yeah, and take advantage of these moments because sometimes you
learn right there, week one, oh crop, this is going
to be a long and sometimes it's a fleeting woman
of hope and just enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Listen. I always go back to three high hopes. You know,
you came off not making the playoffs and O two
but you're a year away from being a super Bowl
champ and then molloy and you lose thirty one nothing
and it was like, oh crap. But things turned around,
you know. Bradley writes in I've heard you mentioned not
(01:08:54):
wanting to have Henderson go between the tackles as much
due to his potential wear and tear. Would you worry
about his eagerness to pick up blitzes, contributing to wear
and tear if left in to pass protect. Well, that's
his strength.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
Because you're delivering a hit as opposed to getting hit.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
You're the hammer, not the nail.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
Correct. Plus one of them is a necessity, the other
one is not a necessity. You don't have to subject
yourself to more hits than you want to as a
blitz protector. That's part of the job that you have
to do. Otherwise the quarterback is going to take that hit.
Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Yep. And we were told, you know, that's what's kept
rookie running bats on the bench is because they weren't
quick to pick that up. This guy, from everything we've
seen comes into the league.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
And there is a difference. I know, like me and
Fred are doing the Andy Hart iron Sharpen's iron hammer
and the nail, but there is a difference between hitting
someone and getting hit. Oh yeah, in terms of the physicality.
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
Darius says, I want to start off and say that
you're all the best, thank you, And I also want
to give a big thank you to Boston Cream for
setting the app so we could all play along. That
was awesome of him. Secondly, I wanted to say how
proud I am of Digs for standing up for himself.
I understand that you guys are medias also, but sometimes
(01:10:12):
the media needs to get checked. Lastly, my score prediction
Patriots thirty eight, Vegas twenty four.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
Wow, what did I mean? What is the media checked party?
Speaker 7 (01:10:24):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Did you heard Diggs yesterday?
Speaker 4 (01:10:27):
Oh? Yeah, that wasn't the media checked part?
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
He kind of checked Phil and Tom. What do you
mean he called him.
Speaker 4 (01:10:33):
Out by name.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
I think it was about something else, but that's okay.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
He said Phil and Tom, But it was about Bob
and Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no Phil. My point
is Phil and Tom didn't do anything wrong. They were
making their thing off or something. Dig said, No, yeah,
it was about Phil saying he was a pain in
the ass. Yeah, based on as actually said Posterioasteria. Yeah,
but it was based off for something Diggs had said
that he didn't necessarily mean literally, right, but so it
(01:11:05):
was something Diggs said.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
No, no, yes, he didn't say I'm a pain in
the posteria.
Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
It's a different thing. We don't have to get okay,
all right, but I think he was checking them. I
don't think he was Okay.
Speaker 7 (01:11:17):
I just feel like everyone involved made it a way
bigger deal than it.
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
It was a complete and total nothing burger. Again, you
know how I know when it's a nothing burger. When
two guys that make something out of everything, Mike and
Tony said this is a complete nothing burger. I don't
know what we're even talking about. Well, the most unnecessary
thing I've ever seen in my life that I agree with.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
I think it was odd. I thought it was odd.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
I don't think he needed it was completely bizarre. Yeah,
but and he was kind of made more out of
it than had already existed. Well, I think it was
completely unnecessary.
Speaker 7 (01:11:51):
I wonder if Raebel didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:11:53):
I don't know if he got like impatient with Phil's
question that day when Phil was kind of trying to
get clarification on Diggs talking to Russini. When Diggs was
it seemed like he was just joking around with Rusini,
and then he.
Speaker 7 (01:12:06):
Goes to Rebel. I feel like Rabel's like, why are
you wasting my time with this?
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
Come on?
Speaker 6 (01:12:10):
And then maybe people felt some type of way after
that encounter, and then it lands on Diggs being a
jerky somehow, And I don't under.
Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
Oh, I don't think it landed on Diggs being a jerk,
but I think you've nailed the whole situation. I think
it was an unnecessary like why are you phoning around
on this interview? Now they're asking me these questions. Now
I have to answer this, Phil, what's wrong with you?
You should know better? He was joking around, like it
just turned into something in Minnesota that didn't need to happen,
and for whatever reason, three weeks later, Dig decided to
(01:12:41):
I don't know, do whatever that was yesterday. Twitter ran
with it, unfortunately, But when was the last time you
saw anything about it since they got back from Minnesota.
Speaker 7 (01:12:51):
I feel like.
Speaker 6 (01:12:53):
Being trolled that they're like whiny or something, or free
will shove them in a locker.
Speaker 7 (01:12:59):
Oh, I don't know narratives that could be.
Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
Yeah, I just didn't. I didn't really understand that that
was a waste of time. Yeah, yes, to be honest
with you, and you know it's funny.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
I was.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
I was with Mike and Tony when that happened. I
was doing my sunshine and I said, to be honest
with you, like Diggs is saying, I didn't mean to
come off as an a hole. Or whatever, and I
was like, to the contrary, we haven't talked to him
a lot. That part was true. He hasn't spoken to
the media a lot, but when he has he's been excellent. Yeah,
Like Alex, you know, gave you some insight as to
(01:13:33):
what he's been like, sort of behind the scenes, away
from microphones. We haven't talked to him a lot, but
when he has talked to us, he's been really.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Even after the boat incident and he was interviewed in
the fieldhouse, I believe they had practiced the door that day.
He was fine.
Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
He was fine. Like I haven't had any inkling whatsoever
of what he was talking about yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
Yes, I excited about him. I don't know why you're not.
Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
I mean, I'm just excited, just excited, Fred, just excited.
I just want to be excited. I want to be
like Mike do So and just be excited all the time.
It's great. I don't have to go twelve and four anymore.
It's just exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Defense is back in New England.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
I didn't get the whole thing yesterday, to be honest
with you, but I agree with Alex. It was a
total nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
Yeah, speed Fresno absolutely loved the New Jill song and
all of her musical contributions. But just want to give
a nostalgic shout out to mister lyfft on Tuesday PFW
shows after win. I always used to get totally jacked
up when the record scratch at the beginning kicked in.
That was a good opening song, mister lyff Anyway, here's
(01:14:37):
a little quick game of free association. I'll give you
a very brief cue, a single word or phrase, and
you blurt out the first NFL coach that comes to mind.
Current or former coaches are eligible. I've listed answers that
popped into my mind, which Frek can reveal after you guess.
This should go fast because I know you got to hurry. Okay,
(01:14:57):
so free association. I'm going to say a word. Tell
me the first coach current or in the past that
comes to mind. Ready, tripping Tom correct, like Tomins tried
to trip somebody on the sideline once clapping Jason Garrett, Yes,
could be McDermott too, scowling scowling Bill Bill, Bill Wilford, Brimley,
(01:15:27):
Andy Reid, Ye Fedora mm hmm. Could be two people.
Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
Like Tom Landry. Okay, past Okay, I was thinking, but
I remember I remember the qualified.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Okay advisor McDaniels. That's a good one. But I think
he only wants head coaches, so that's a good one.
It doesn't have his things aren't. The correct answer is
just whatever works, so there's no right or wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:16:07):
McDaniels works because he was a past Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:16:10):
Uh sunglasses, this is a good one. Absolutely, he used
to wear sunglasses.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Else with sunglasses? Who Tony Sperano, Oh, yeah, that's a
good one. He had the eye thing, yeah, good, good, good.
He has some kind of eye conditioning.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Yeah, he was like even at night he'd wear them. Uh,
thick rim glasses this one. I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
That Mike McDaniel.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
No, it doesn't coach anything.
Speaker 7 (01:16:44):
ODIs glasses.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
Yeahs. I'll give you another one, just like or something.
I'll give you another one, same person that I'm that
he was thinking of. And then uh punching.
Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
Oh what he hayes No no no, no, no, no
no no what he hates had thick rimmed glass but NFL,
he actually did. Buddy Buddy Ryan, Buddy Ryan had.
Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
Remember he punched his offensive coordinator.
Speaker 4 (01:17:12):
I suppose he did have thick rimmed glass, Kevin Gilbride. Yeah,
he was the defensive coordinator at the time.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
This is easy feet Rex, Brian, you got right, good
pencil pencil.
Speaker 7 (01:17:33):
I think of Patricia, but yes, yes, you got it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
That's a good one. Not again, it's not right or wrong,
but yeah, that's who he thought of as well. Where
are you going? Okay, so we'll finish the game. Gum gum. Yeah,
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:17:56):
I've thought about someone watching an NFL game just chomping
the hell out of a piece of gum and I
can't picture.
Speaker 3 (01:18:02):
Well, there's one that we're gonna see.
Speaker 7 (01:18:06):
Carrol.
Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
Yeah, he's always mustache, I think, yes, and he had
as well as as well as Bill Cower tight pants,
any of Evans. He's got McDaniel, but it could Sean McVay. Yeah,
(01:18:27):
I think of Sean McVay. He was the original tight
pants guy, right and then red face.
Speaker 7 (01:18:41):
Red face. There could be a couple there too.
Speaker 3 (01:18:44):
Yeah, he's got Tom clapp Coughlin, which is a good one.
I would have had McDermott and he said, Fred will
say McDermott, you know, red ass you call him. So
that's that's a good game.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
Take me out of this.
Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Thanks, b someone has returned.
Speaker 7 (01:19:00):
Look who's back from the locker room?
Speaker 10 (01:19:03):
What was the mood where the player's friendly to that?
Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
None of them look like Devin Henry.
Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
Hey Mike, what was it like in the locker room?
Speaker 7 (01:19:14):
Heyke?
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
What was it like in the locker room? Hey Mike?
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
What was it like? It's pretty uh exciting, I would say,
I think exciting. Yeah, I think the guys are anticipation's
building for the home opener this weekend for sure. Uh,
you know, talk to a couple of Trevon Hendersons. You know,
his first chance of course, uh getting out there. So
he seemed he actually he seemed kind of like steady Eddie.
He didn't really seem like, oh, I'm so you know,
(01:19:41):
he's kind of a quiet guy though anyway. But you know,
morgan O's this good advice for the young guys and
what to expect, and you know, I think the message
from the veterans is just go out there and play football.
You know, don't overthink it. You guys are all brought
in here for a reason, so you know, just go
out there and and and let it rip. So uh,
Pop Douglas the same thing, you know, just talking a
little bit of out his opening game experiences and everybody
(01:20:03):
hoping that the fans are going to bring the energy
and that they have a little bit of a home
field advantage. So I think it's in a game like this,
which a lot of the Patriots games are this year,
feels kind of like a coin flip, you hope that
you know, the energy is really good here and that
that home field advantage comes back. Hasn't really been a
home field Yeah, And I.
Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Hope you know, fans, if you're listening, those of you
are going to be in attendance, bring the noise, bring it,
let's go, let's let's let's get to Let's stadium. Back
to being a home field advantage, yeah, because I don't
think it has been for a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
No, No, And it's I think they go hand in hand,
you know, good team and get it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I get. I'm not blaming the fans. I'm just like,
let's let's start off on the right foot this this week.
Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
Then you know, we can start to build some momentum
and you know, start to build some buzz and hey
there's something going on here in this you know, win
or lose. I think this team is going to play
really hard and be a fun product to watch. And
I just hope offensively that they're able to move the ball,
put some points up and make all these games interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
So getting back to the locker room, a lot of media,
lot of me, lot of media people.
Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
No national people, but I would say there was more
than than yesterday. Yesterday was a little bit quieter, which
is strange, but of course we had you know, Josh
McDaniels went earlier, Jeremy Springer went earlier to Roll Williams
is going this afternoon. The rest of the offensive coaches
are going this afternoon. So it's a very busy day
right now for these guys, and I know Thursday is
a big day for their prep. I was watching a
couple of the guys go out with you know, they
(01:21:24):
used to wear like pennies when they're pretending to be
the other team, but now they're just wearing like kind
of regular Patriots jersey. So guys in different numbers. You know,
Jeremiah Webb was in sixteen, so I guess he's, you know,
playing the part of Jacobe Kobe Myers this week. So
that's you know, how Rabel likes to do it.
Speaker 5 (01:21:39):
I guess every little nuances.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
Did you run into Evan?
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
I did run into Evan. I talked to Evian a
little bit in the locker room.
Speaker 5 (01:21:44):
You interview I didn't interview him.
Speaker 2 (01:21:46):
I just I just, you know, had a little brief
chat with him as we were. You know, he does
this thing, he's going around talking.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
I was to say, like, did you catch Evan in
a corner in a little conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
I saw one with Jalen Hawkins and and then it
was funny yesterday as I mean, you know, Evan went
up to he went up to Josh Dobbs yesterday and
he was like, can I ask you a potentially stupid
football question? And Josh Dobbs was very gracious, and I
didn't hear what they were saying, but they had a
good conversation. And Josh Dobbs like, no, it's a good question.
Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
I want to talk up to Josh Dobbs. I want
to see if he wants to do.
Speaker 4 (01:22:14):
Evan did that. He went up to Josh Dobbs and
just said Evyane was being disingenuous. There's no way that
he really thought dumb, because there's no way he would
subject himself to.
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Not being a ball noer no, I think this might
have been an area that Evan actually like wasn't was
genuinely wasn't sure about something. I do that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
That's exactly how I do it.
Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
It's like how I wait into right, I'm surprised I'm
not getting a call, Hey, why is Evan asking Josh?
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
Well, I think he you know what he's giving. Evan
does dive into the film, and I think he, you know,
generally has questions that that only those guys can really answer.
So Josh jobs was great. I mean, it seemed like
he gave him a lot. And that's nothing I really
enjoyed from some of the behind the scenes Forged stuff.
Was just, you know, Josh Dobbs listening to him kind
of talk to these guys, and you know, you just
get a sense of who these guys are as people
(01:23:03):
and as teammates and what kind of leadership they bring.
And every time I hear Josh Dobbs talk, I see, Yeah,
I get why this guy is. You know, we're just
really respecting he's got, i mean, obviously really interesting career
with what he's done, going into programs and starting games
on no.
Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
No, you know, no, no, I want to do a
podcast with Josh Dobbs past him. Just that'd be fun
two of us and we'll talk about science fiction, we'll
talk about all kinds of different things.
Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
You know, that's exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
I would like to do that. I'm going to propose
that Tom, Josh Dobbs.
Speaker 4 (01:23:36):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
Well, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Pull you all right? So I haven't seen.
Speaker 3 (01:23:43):
I thought you had to go to the bar.
Speaker 7 (01:23:44):
Did you just fake a call to get a new PEPSI?
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
Well, I was out there. While I'm out here, I
was out there, so I decided to go around the
corner and get one from that other refrigerator. And I
also had a quick little moment with the head coach.
Braves happened to be coming by.
Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
Hey Paul, just a high quiet Hey, pay how.
Speaker 4 (01:24:02):
You doing, Mike? Good lucks on? I didn't say good blocks.
So I've been boring Mike with this. I won't go
twenty minutes. Don't worry about he he has that look
on his face. This is this is like damping, damping
the enthusiasm, Paul. I don't know where you're going with this,
but anyway, so my brother in law, his son, my nephew,
(01:24:23):
and we all live very very close together, like within
an eighth of a mile right slam. So yeah, so
they've decided everybody's got some cleaning to do. You know
those Hall truck you know those junk trucks out Yeah, yeah,
the one eight hundred. Very very it's very expensive. Yeah,
(01:24:44):
it can be very expensive. Right, So we hired one
and we're gonna do it. I asked him to do
it all together. Oh so we got a little bit
of a many hands make light work correct, Yeah, and
they agreed to do all three and we got a
pretty good rate to do it. The problem was when
we've decided to do this, and that was a couple
of weeks ago, and all of a sudden, like on
(01:25:04):
Tuesday night, I was told, yeah, they're coming at one
thirty on Thursday. Like, I'm not ready, You're not ready.
So I got home last night, it's dark out, and
I'm like, I had to get everything out from under
the deck, and I sent Mike a picture of it.
I'll see if I can get that on the camera.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Yeah, we should get that.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
Mike is just dying laughing at some of the crowd.
I have, like you know, like the wedding cake stairs
that go in a pool like the plastic stairs like
when I first got the pool, like twenty five years ago.
The guy's like, yeah, I'm throwing a set of those sticks.
So the guy just like brings over this set of
stairs and just dumps him in my backyard. No instruction.
I have no idea how to like install them.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
Put to the top.
Speaker 4 (01:25:46):
He's like, oh you put like like say it like
like I'm not drilling anything into my new pool right,
like in creating a leak, Like I don't know how that.
So they've never been in the pool. They've been under
my deck for twenty five years.
Speaker 8 (01:25:59):
It looks like it.
Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
I could just see the Perillo clan. They all get
their stuff together and each one is like, you're throwing
that out, I'll take that before you know. If there's
nothing left, everything's been claimed by somebody else.
Speaker 7 (01:26:11):
Right, So how did you get into your pool for
twenty years?
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:26:14):
I have a ladder. There's a regular ladder. But these
stairs would have been much better for say, like my
mother in law who used to watch the kids all
the time, and would have been much easier for her
to get in and out of the pool. See, he
always has to go snark, all right, you're the Queen
of Snark. I'm the king of Snark, you're the queen.
Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Okay, all right, I'll owan that Moniker. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
So anyway, Yeah, my brother in law was kind enough
to go over and just sort of make sure that
everything that we needed to get taken out. There were
three pieces of the sectional still in the house because Beth,
who was the only one around to help me get this,
the section was in like seven pieces that we were
thrown away. Yeah, sec we put like four of them
(01:26:59):
out in the driveway. The other ones, the ones that
had like the recliner ones, they're really heavy with like
the big metal braces in the back end. I couldn't
couldn't do it by myself. And Beth is like, yeah,
I'm out.
Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
You don't have a Dolly in the basement.
Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
What were you saying about the Boston accent? That was
a little Boston accent dolly, right though.
Speaker 7 (01:27:17):
That's almost even more New Jersey, the emphasis on the own,
not the O.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
Could be.
Speaker 4 (01:27:25):
My brother and law just wanted to make sure that
everything that I wanted to get thrown out with all right.
Just the wedding cake stairs, Oh my god, they're textured.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
You've just been staring at those cursing them for twenty years.
Speaker 3 (01:27:40):
Put the mold on it.
Speaker 4 (01:27:42):
I think we're going to effort to get that photo up.
It's a mess.
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
The fans are clamoring for it, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:27:49):
So so you would say, is an enthusiastic locker room.
Was Drake in there?
Speaker 15 (01:27:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
I saw Drake walking through, so you know, and and
I gotta say this again, just to piggyback off what
Alex said. We were all gathered around Pop Douglas and
as is often the case, there's so many people that
it spills over into the lockers next to him, and
Stefan Diggs was not at his locker when we all
got there, and he kind of like walked in and
Karen Greagan like kind of got out of the way.
We're gonna kind of moved and he was just like,
it's all good, it's all good. I got to like
(01:28:15):
it was, you know, just very smiley, gracious and you know,
putting on a good face for for all that.
Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
So after yesterday, God, I hope these kids winning just one.
Speaker 4 (01:28:27):
That's like two weeks in a row.
Speaker 5 (01:28:30):
So it was it was good.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Yeah, Okay, all right, So I think we need to
get into the picks because I think we're gonna need
a little extra time here too.
Speaker 4 (01:28:38):
Do you need extra time?
Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
All right? So it is that time of the week.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
We're not going to talk about last year.
Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
I was now to be good. Yes we are, Oh
we are all right.
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
Well, Paul kick it off.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
I'm just going to give you the final results from
last season because I like to give everybody their props.
Evan eighty one, followed by Alex at one ninety and
eighty two. Paul was third at one eighty four and
eighty eight, and then Mike and Fred were tied at
one eighty three and eighty nine. That was the overall
with the spread. Evan also won that. See again, I
(01:29:14):
like to give the props to the ball knower. Yeah,
one fifty six, one ten and six, followed by Paul
at one fifty four, one twelve and six. Fred, you
were third in the spread because that really separates, Yeah,
it does, one fifty one, sixteen and six. Mike was
one forty nine, one seventeen and six, and Alex was
one forty one, one twenty five and six.
Speaker 3 (01:29:35):
And not to you know, pat ourselves too much on
the back, but those are good numbers. If you're anything
over fifty percent against the spread, that's good. I mean
Evan was forty six over the over five hundred, that's correct.
That's that's amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:29:49):
He's a sharp Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:29:51):
So all right, let's get it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
Alex was sixteen over five hundred and she was all
fifth place fast, right, I know, I like to say
fifth place. I think last.
Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
That's really good. All right, So here we go, And
just a reminder, if you want to do your own picks,
you can do that at TinyURL dot com slash Patriots
Unfiltered thanks to Boston Cream. He set that up and
put your picks in. And then next week we'll we'll
talk about, you know, of our listeners who did really well.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
Maybe a T shirt for the Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:30:24):
All right, So tonight left eight twenty on NBC, Telemundo Universo.
It's the cow And by the way, everyone's record is
O and oh so I won't be doing records, right.
The Cowboys are at the Eagles, one of Paul's division games.
Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
Philly by eight and a half, eight point five.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Yeah, that's so. As I was pondering this game, just
wondering what is Dallas's frame of mind after trading Michael Parsons,
How does that play out with them? I know Paul
talking about this being a division game, hard to pick
against Philadelphia. They're just so talented. They have brought most
everybody back. So I'm going to go with Philadelphia. But
I think on the first night of the season in
(01:31:07):
a divisional game, I think it might be a little
bit closer, even if the Cowboys are reeling a little bit,
So I will take Dallas plus eight point five.
Speaker 7 (01:31:14):
At those points, I'm gonna go Philly, Philly. It's been
a top six months for Dallas sports fans.
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
It is yep, right they traded Luca.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
Yeah, I am going to agree with Alex. I think
it's been a mess for the Cowboys maybe. I mean,
I know I'm reading all from the Dallas industrial Complex
that evidently Micah Parsons kills children in his spare time
since since the trade last right, the smear campaign is
red Sox esque, I would say, But I got to
(01:31:49):
think that that trade wasn't the best thing for everybody
with the Cowboys, And now I'll take Philly both ways.
A lot of times that I think Mike is right
that that opening night thing coming off a super Bowl
doesn't always go the way you think it's gonna go.
But I have a feeling that they, you know, and win.
Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
One of the things that like kind of got lost
in all the Micah Parsons and all that stuff is
their head coach is Brian Shottennheim. It's like, because Jerry
Jones doesn't want to go out and get like a
a coach that will talk back, right. So I was
gonna say the lock was taking the points, but I
(01:32:29):
gotta go Eagles both ways. I just think that when
you add in everything, I just think this is a
lost season for the Cowboys. Friday night, uh eight o'clock
on YouTube. I'm not exactly sure how that's gonna work.
You just type YouTube into the line into your smart
TV browser. I don't want to watch on my phone.
(01:32:54):
I don't want to watch on my phone. I want
to watch it on my big screen TV. Am I
gonna be able to do.
Speaker 2 (01:32:58):
That without a subscribe?
Speaker 7 (01:33:00):
Do you have the app on your smart TV? I
don't know the YouTube.
Speaker 3 (01:33:05):
I might Okay, I have a smart TV, so I
assume that YouTube's probably aren't.
Speaker 6 (01:33:10):
Just he's gonna call you tomorrow, operator, I'll be ready
to go I'll be ready to walk you through it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Trying to watch the game, I will say, with no
snark involved at all. I am borderline stunned that I'm
not the one asking that question.
Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
No, I don't watch YouTube TV. I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:33:28):
I don't either, but I know you can.
Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
I know, but I've never had to, so I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:33:32):
I just watch YouTube for free. But they do have
like a TV subscription.
Speaker 3 (01:33:36):
You can use YouTube and replace Comcast with it. YouTube
has its own network.
Speaker 4 (01:33:44):
My question is can I watch this game without being
a YouTube subscriber?
Speaker 3 (01:33:48):
Yes, yes, it's free.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
It is free.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
It is free, absolutely, I know that for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:33:54):
So now, but I was a little surprised that you
wouldn't be a little bit more up on watching.
Speaker 3 (01:33:58):
I haven't even looked into it yet.
Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
So it's the chiefs at the Chargers casey by three three.
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
Yeah, I flirted.
Speaker 4 (01:34:10):
I know people are Probablylane would be happy now when I.
Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
Flirted with not picking the chiefs.
Speaker 15 (01:34:15):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
I know people a little bit of chefs fatigue settling in.
I get it. But I just I think they are
going to bounce back this year. I can't. I can't
pick the Chargers. I'm not sure. I think Kansas City's
beating them through or four straight times. So I'm gonna
go with Kansas City, even on the road, and I'm
gonna lay the points.
Speaker 7 (01:34:31):
I think Kansas City will win.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
I'm sorry, it's in Brazil.
Speaker 3 (01:34:34):
It's in Brazil.
Speaker 4 (01:34:36):
What's three.
Speaker 3 (01:34:38):
Surprising?
Speaker 4 (01:34:39):
That's weird?
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
Yeah, they know something something's up? Is something up?
Speaker 4 (01:34:44):
How many do you think they should be favored by
over the Chargers?
Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
Seven? Really? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
Six playoff teams are playing? You think it should be
a touch seven?
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
Oh wow, you just made the you made the middle
school is really happy with that one.
Speaker 3 (01:34:59):
What the middle schoolers?
Speaker 2 (01:35:01):
Six seventh?
Speaker 7 (01:35:02):
That's a thing.
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
It can't stop saying six seven. I don't ask, don't ask.
Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
Don't stumble into an it's not even think you did.
And you know it's not even fields have no idea.
What's going on?
Speaker 15 (01:35:13):
You and I?
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Six seven and laughing all over the place. You don't
really know why. I'm just telling you, Wow, Okay, somebody
will write in about it.
Speaker 3 (01:35:20):
I'm sure, all right, somebody tell me what six seven means.
Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
We'll explain it to us off there.
Speaker 7 (01:35:25):
I don't even know.
Speaker 5 (01:35:26):
It's like unexplainable, too young for me.
Speaker 6 (01:35:31):
There's a lot of travel for both teams. I think
Kansas City will win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:37):
He's flirting with the hook.
Speaker 7 (01:35:39):
Justin has a new girlfriend.
Speaker 4 (01:35:42):
That's the hook.
Speaker 7 (01:35:43):
I think they might cover.
Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
Wait, who is it? Somebody famous?
Speaker 7 (01:35:47):
Madison beer Beer. I don't know. She's really really hot.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
You said it, it's like a it's like a I
don't think I heard that.
Speaker 7 (01:35:55):
Name of situation. Too young, way too young, Oh, Josh.
Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
I would fade any their quarterbacks dating an actress.
Speaker 4 (01:36:02):
But you're taking Kansas City or taking the point.
Speaker 7 (01:36:04):
I'm taking Kansas City, and I'm giving the Chargers the points.
Speaker 4 (01:36:08):
Okay, I am going to take Kansas City both ways also.
But the Chargers are pretty good. I'm a little, I guess,
waiting to see how they respond to a tough, tough summer,
you know, losing the best linemen, and how they're going
to respond to that. Najie Harris's you know, situation kind
(01:36:29):
of odd. Don't know if he's going to be able
to play even I think the Chargers are pretty good.
I think there'll be a playoff team. But I think
that the demise or as Quint would say, the demise
of the Chiefs, I think has been greatly exaggerated. Again,
a lot of people picking Denver to win the AFC West.
I don't see it. I'll take the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
This is an insider game.
Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
Insider, Yeah, this is.
Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
An insider game. Something's up with this spread. I'm telling
you all. I'm going with Charges both way. Jim Harbaugh
has him ready to go on week one chat.
Speaker 4 (01:37:04):
I couldn't absolutely see the Chargers winning. I just don't
really get your spread. Thing, Like the Chiefs never cover,
like that's their thing is Like everybody should have beaten
the Chiefs every game, but they find a way to win.
They never cover. Like where you're gonna lay like ten points? Okay,
no one would take Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (01:37:22):
I don't know what that means.
Speaker 4 (01:37:23):
But okay, like the spread like a divisional game and
a neutral site, a field goal, I don't know what
you're expecting to be favored by. That's what I don't get. Okay,
So I'm taking the Charges seven both ways.
Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
It's supposed to be six or seven six seven?
Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
He did it again that when he did on purpose,
I don't even.
Speaker 3 (01:37:44):
Know what I'm doing.
Speaker 7 (01:37:45):
Appealing to the younger democratics.
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Good Sunday at one on Fox, Oh wait, we have
to skip over that one.
Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
We do go ahead?
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
No mine, Okay, Sunday at one at Fox the Buccaneers
are at the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
Uh, just nothing other division game?
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Great love it?
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
Uh, Tampa by one and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:38:04):
Yeah, this is one of those really tough games for me.
I always feel like to the Falcons are I agree
with Fred hard really stockpiling. I feel like some really
good pieces on both sides of the ball. You know,
dropped a couple edge guys this year in the draft
as well, Like I just am wondering, is it all
gonna come together with you know, Drake London and Michael
Pennix and Jon Robinson or you know, Tampa still got
(01:38:28):
great weapons too, and a mega Buca has really had
a good camp to You're gonna let baker Bag. Let
baker Bag with him in it, you know, absolutely, I'm
gonna get a little crazy. I'm gonna go with Atlanta
at home and a little bit of a little bit
of a changing not changing the guard, but I think
Atlanta's gonna put some pressure on Tampa. I'll take the
Falcons and uh, I'll take those one point five points. Please.
Speaker 7 (01:38:54):
The home dogs are tempting, but I'm gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:38:57):
Go Tampa Tampa. So I agree with Mike that I
think the Falcons are a team if Michael Pennix plays well.
Obviously they have a lot of talent and they could
be heard from. I think Tampa is better. I'm a
little concerned about their injuries to start the season, but
I'm going to take Tampa to get off to a
(01:39:18):
better start on the road, I'll take Tampa.
Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
I'm gonna take the Falcons to win the game. Sunday
at one on Fox, the Bengals are at the.
Speaker 4 (01:39:29):
Browns Cincinnati by five and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
Will they come out ready to play?
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
I'm gonna say they do this year. Fred, I'm gonna
I know that they've had rough starts in the past,
but they got Trey Hendrickson in order and hopefully that
has positive vibes for them going into Week one. Just
really hard to no disrespect to Joe Flacco, but to
pick Cleveland even with their really good defense.
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
Love Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase t Higgins.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
Well, Joe too much fit be. Before the game, what
was the spread?
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Five?
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
Five, five and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Yeah, I'll lay the five to five.
Speaker 6 (01:40:05):
Yeah, I think Cincinnati gets over that. Early season struggle
bus that.
Speaker 7 (01:40:11):
They've been on. I think I'm gonna take them both ways.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
Yeah, I am going to say that they're ready to
play with the changes that they made in the summer.
I'll take I'll take the Bengals, but I'm not laying
five and a half with that defense. I'll take the points.
So Cincinnati to win, Cleveland to cover.
Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
I'm gonna take Cincinnati both ways, so Joe Cool gets
it done. CBS at one. The Dolphins are at the Colts.
Speaker 1 (01:40:43):
Indye by one, and a Hey, I just I don't
know what to except for Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
I see all these you know, rumblings with drama with
Tyreek Hill and you know, is Mike McDaniel losing the
locker room and all that stuff, and I just, I mean,
they've been so good against the Patriots, and they seem
to beat the to bad teams, and they lose to
the good teams. I'm gonna go for a little bit
out on the limb though here. And I know in
Indianapolis is favorite, but I'm going to take Indianapolis. I'm
going to buy into a little bit of the Miami
(01:41:08):
hype and say they dropped this one in Week one.
Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
I'll lay the one and a half.
Speaker 7 (01:41:16):
Indie Indy.
Speaker 4 (01:41:18):
Yeah, this is probably the game I have the least
amount of clue about. I could see Daniel Jones playing
reasonably well for his new team and in the Colts
at home winning. I just think Miami is better, and
I know everybody thinks Miami is gonna win three games
this year. That seems to be the consensus. Much like
Kansas City, I think their demise is overrated. I don't
(01:41:40):
think Miami is necessarily a playoff team, but I see
them doing exactly what Mike said and continuing to beat
the bad teams and losing to good teams. And they're
always better early in the season than late because McDaniel
usually has some things offensively. I'll take Miami to win.
Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
Yeah. Anyone who outside of South Florida or India Annapolis
who thinks they have a beat on this game is
just lying. But I'm going to take the Colts because
I want them to win.
Speaker 4 (01:42:06):
So which brings up an interesting thing, Freddy. Yeah, you know,
we haven't made all the picks yet, but Patriots Great
chanced to enter Week two in first place by themselves.
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:42:18):
Miami loses to Indy Jets lose to Pittsburgh. Buffalo loses
to Baltimore. Ye boom roasted boom. That's how it happens.
I left out the Patriots part.
Speaker 3 (01:42:27):
But Sunday at one on Fox, the Panthers are at
the Jaguars.
Speaker 4 (01:42:32):
The Panthers Jacksonville by three and a.
Speaker 2 (01:42:35):
Hey, it's another really tough one where Carolina maybe found
a little magic at the end of last year. No
feeling's gone. Now that they see that a little bit
as a blow. It opens the door for one of
my Holy Cross guys. They're Jalen Coker might get more
opportunity this year. But I'm gonna say this is Trevor Lawrence.
I don't want to see a back bounce back here.
I'm gonna say they're gonna win. Jacksonville's gonna win this
(01:42:55):
one this week. I'll lay the points as well. I
just I love what they've got around him, and if
he can put it together, and you play under the
new Duvall coach, maybe they'll put it together. Scurse some points.
Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
I'll think people been talking about Travis Hunter, like how's
he doing well?
Speaker 4 (01:43:13):
He got hurt, so he missed I know, like the
last preseason or the last two preseason games something like that.
But yeah, he's been he's been active, and I think
they planted on playing them both ways. Jaggs Jags, Jags,
Jaggs for Alex. Uh, I am going to take Jacksonville
to win the game. I'll take the hook the hook
(01:43:36):
three and a half. I'll take Carolina to lose by
a field goal.
Speaker 3 (01:43:39):
Uh. This is going to be a bounced back season
for Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:43:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree. I think Jacksonville's Yeah, and
I'm gonna take then a lot of good things about
Liam Cohen. I don't know if any of them are warranted,
but I'm hearing a lot of good things.
Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (01:43:56):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:43:56):
Sunday at one on CBS, the Cardinals are at the Saints.
Speaker 4 (01:44:03):
Arizona by six and a.
Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
Hay, that's a that's a big Week one spread on
the road. Yeah, it's gonna be helps you up the
respect that the Saints aren't getting.
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
Well, yeah, they don't mean they didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:44:16):
They don't have there, they don't have.
Speaker 4 (01:44:17):
A lot of people think New Orleans is the worst
team in football. I would be one of those, Yeah, yeah,
I would.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
I would feel say, Hunter rat what's his spencer Ler Rattler,
I'll take Arizona. I'll drop all six and a half
of those points.
Speaker 4 (01:44:30):
All six and a half of them, the same thing. Yeah,
I agree with Fred. It is a pretty big uh oh,
you already did yours. Okay, pretty big spread on the
road in week one, but I'm going to take Arizona.
Speaker 3 (01:44:44):
I am going to take Arizona as well both ways.
Sunday at one CBS Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:44:49):
At Jets, Pittsburgh by three.
Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
Battle of the Quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
Yeah, this is another one of those games where I
just so hard to pick, but I think I'm going
to this for Week one. I'm going to go with
the only known quantity I feel like is Mike Tomlin
within this matchup and that defense. So I'm gonna take
Pittsburgh and I'll lay the points, give the Jets a
week one loss.
Speaker 7 (01:45:13):
Yeah, I'll probably ride with Pittsburgh two until they give
me a reason not to.
Speaker 4 (01:45:19):
Yeah. I'm kind of in between on Pittsburgh. You know,
people seem to be all in or all out on
Aaron Rodgers. I think there'll be a continuation of what
we've seen Pittsburgh to be like a nine and eight
ten and seven kind of team. I don't think he'll
be a disaster. I think this is a spot for
the Jets though. I don't think very many people are
thinking much of the Jets, and this is when they
sort of they like to like pull the rug out
(01:45:40):
from under their fans, just to crush them a little
bit more. I think the Jets win outright in Week
one and still still have a tough year, It just
makes it all the much. It's much harder for Jets
fans to handle when they're they end up two and six.
Speaker 3 (01:45:53):
Anyway, it was a tough game for hate watching because
you want both of you want both of them to lose.
You know, if the Jets in then Aaron Rodgers loses,
which is great. But if Aaron the Steelers win, then
the Jets lose, which is also great. So I want
them both to lose. Possible more, Yeah, I guess so,
So I'll go with the Steelers to win the game.
Speaker 18 (01:46:16):
So that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
You know, we could definitely, do we have time, Yeah,
we could definitely have a good PFW argument about that.
What would you want more to lose right now? I
think if you think you're going to be on the
edge of the playoffs, you should be rooting against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (01:46:28):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:46:29):
No one thinks the Jets are going to be in
the playoff people.
Speaker 3 (01:46:31):
Right, that's right. Yeah, just saying yeah, it's true, it's true.
Speaker 4 (01:46:35):
Just saying it's true.
Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
Sunday at one on Fox, the Giants are at the Commanders.
Speaker 4 (01:46:41):
Washington by six.
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
So this is another another one of these games where
like Paul, you brought up the Giants, so like you know,
making a case with Abdua Carter and you know they
got a pass rush now Dexter Lawrence. I mean, they
got Molik Neighbors. I mean they have some pieces and
does Russell Wilson still have a little bit in the
tank to you know, beat a really good Washington team.
Speaker 5 (01:47:02):
I still think Washington's excellent.
Speaker 2 (01:47:04):
I'm gonna take them to win, but I think Russell
Wilson and that defense will keep it close. I'll take
the six points for the Giants.
Speaker 7 (01:47:11):
Yeah, I'm gonna do the same thing.
Speaker 6 (01:47:14):
I'm not as high on Washington as I think I
was last year after seeing them here in preseason, and
it's just one of this is a game where I
just have to see how it plays out.
Speaker 7 (01:47:25):
Like, what are the Giants gonna look like, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:47:28):
How does it all come together? They've got talent.
Speaker 4 (01:47:30):
It's just you know, folks, this is your this is
your upset special of the week.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
Did I steal it on you?
Speaker 3 (01:47:37):
Well, not upset, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
Okay, I'm gonna take the Giants out right. Wow, I'm
gonna take the Giants out right. Have all the respect
in the world for Jaden Daniels. I do not think
he was a flash in the pan. I don't think
it's gonna be a sophomore slump. I just think it's
hard to win by yourself every week, and I don't
think that team's all that good. And I kind of
like what I this is probably I'm definitely gill of
(01:48:00):
what I always rail against putting too much stock in
something I saw in the summer, and I just felt
like that team was more about the guys they weren't
on the field. The reaction on the sideline of the
starters for the Giants throughout that game resonated with me
for some reason. I know it's stupid, it's meaningless, but
I was impressed that that Dable had that team engaged.
Speaker 3 (01:48:24):
Yeah, this is a lock of the week, just on
the points though the Giants cover in this game, but
they don't get it done.
Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
So we all like the Giants. It's interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
We do giants cover lock of the week? Take the points?
Speaker 4 (01:48:38):
Should I put that down as your lock of the way, Yes,
that's why I said it.
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):
This is what you say a lot of This is
an interesting game. Four or five on Fox. By the way,
I've skipped over the Patriots and we're moving to the
four o'clock window. Four or five on Fox, the Titans
are at Denver. Not only are the Denver at home,
(01:49:04):
they're the only team already at one and oh so
it's unbelievable have the league. But yeah, so Titans at Denver.
Speaker 4 (01:49:12):
You're you're right to say this is an intriguing game.
Denver by eight and a half. I'd like to see
Tennessee play this year. I think this is a tough
spot though, Like a Denver is a tough place to
play because of the altitude and all.
Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
The Cramward week one. Yeah, first start.
Speaker 4 (01:49:27):
At start, but Denver by eight and a hey, yeah, I've.
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Seen Tom Brady struggle their enough to know it's a
tough place to play. And Denver locking up, Nick Benito
taking care of some of their guys think fives will
be good. I'll take Denver and I'm gonna lay those points.
Speaker 7 (01:49:41):
Yeah, biggest spread of the week, right, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:49:46):
Yeah, tied with Dallas and Philly. I'm going to take
Denver to win. Also, I'm gonna take Yeah, I'll take
Denver both ways. But I think Tennessee is going to
be improved. I you know, I think it's gonna be
the continuation of that rookie quarterback thing that gives a
(01:50:06):
team a lift. I think cam Wood's gonna be all right,
but tough, tough one to start in Denver.
Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
Yeah, chalk this game.
Speaker 4 (01:50:13):
Uh, Broncos both ways, and I do think Denver is
a pretty good team.
Speaker 3 (01:50:18):
Yeah, four oh five on Fox, the forty nine Ers
at the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (01:50:23):
I can't get enough of those divisional games. Uh, San
Francisco by two and a hay.
Speaker 2 (01:50:29):
So Robert Salad back. They lost some pieces there in
San Francisco. No more Depo or you know, Drake Greenlaw
missed last season. But I think San Francisco is gonna
have a bounce back year. I think they'll be back
in command to the FC West. I'm gonna take San
Francisco dropped those points me too. I'm curious to what
(01:50:49):
Donald looks like in Seattle, Like does that you know
what I mean?
Speaker 5 (01:50:51):
Is he really good?
Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Or was that more Kevin O'Connell Minnesota justin Jefferson, you know, like,
what's it look like?
Speaker 4 (01:50:58):
It's a good point. I'm going to take San Francisco
both ways as well. I do think the Niners are
a good team and a talented team that got absolutely
decimated last year. I think they bounced back and win
that division.
Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
I'm gonna take the forty nine ers as well both ways.
I think that's a fairly easy one. CBS for twenty
five the Lions at the Packers.
Speaker 4 (01:51:22):
This is actually a division game that I would be
good interested in. Green Bay by.
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
Two and a hay, just so many storylines to kind
of dig in on, starting with Ben Johnson leaving Detroit's offense.
What's not going to look like now? Still have a
lot of pieces in place, you know, green Bay. They
just got a big boost bringing in Micah Parsons. I
still don't totally believe in Jordan Love though. I just
I haven't seen the consistency from him yet. He still
(01:51:49):
seems so up and down. But I'm gonna go with
green Bay at home in this one to hold serve
Dan Campbill's been really good against the Packers, but I
think they just have a little bit of juice and
energy right now.
Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
For week one at home, I'll take them and lay
the points.
Speaker 7 (01:52:03):
I'm gonna take green Bay at home, but I'm gonna
give Detroit the points.
Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
That's a close one.
Speaker 4 (01:52:07):
I'm going to take Detroit both ways. This will be
the game, Mike that you and Fred will have to
carry the post game show as I'm watching it. So, yeah,
I do think the Lions have had the Packers number.
And I love what you said about Jordan Love. I
think he has talent, but I don't think he's put
it together, and I don't think he's ascended to a
level that some people have put him at.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:52:27):
Yeah, my gut says Packers. I'm gonna stick with my gut.
Usually when I lose, it's when I go against my instincts.
My instincts say Packers win this game. Uh, CBS for
twenty five, the Texans are at the Rams.
Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
The Lar the Lar by three by three.
Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
How Stafford You're gonna play?
Speaker 1 (01:52:51):
He's I just I worry about him breaking down.
Speaker 4 (01:52:55):
I think the Rams are really good, but if he
doesn't play, it ain't really good.
Speaker 2 (01:52:58):
And that's why.
Speaker 4 (01:52:59):
Yeah, the same.
Speaker 2 (01:53:00):
I'm going to go with an upset here on the road,
and I'm going to take Houston and c. J. Stroud
and I think they kind of continue their ascension and
putting things together. Solid football team down there with the Texans.
Speaker 7 (01:53:12):
I'm taking that upset too.
Speaker 4 (01:53:15):
Can't go against my guy. I'll take the Laar. I
think at least he plays to start the season. I
don't know how long, on how many games. Stafford at
thirty seven is gonna be able to play with a
bad back, but then they get off to a good start.
Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with the Rams as well. For
this game eight twenty Sunday Night Football on NBC in Universo.
Good matchup the Ravens at the Bills, rematch of last
year's memorable Divisional Round game. Baltimore the road favorite by
one and a hay one and a hey, a lot
of people think Baltimore is the best team in football. No,
(01:53:49):
why talent, but like.
Speaker 5 (01:53:52):
Specifically, is there something new that they've done?
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
No, but they they're perennial double digit team. Jim Harbor Harbaugh,
the head coach.
Speaker 4 (01:54:01):
I think they've had fewer bad than some of the
other good teams.
Speaker 5 (01:54:05):
I just I didn't know if something changed this year.
Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
They're very popular pick right now and a lot of
people are very high, and I just, you know, I
get why continuation, but I shouldn't know what there wasn't
really a big change.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
A lot of people think they have to get off
the hump at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Yeah, you know, well, I don't think they're gonna be.
I'm gonna take the bills. I hear you at Home
as Home Dogs. Josh Allen, he's a married man now,
happy content with his life. I just had a great
movie Sinners made him cry. Yeah, it was that emotional, Paul,
I know. So Yeah, I'm gonna go with Josh. Allen's
ready to ready to drop bombs.
Speaker 6 (01:54:39):
I really would like to see Baltimore win a Super Bowl,
which sounds weird to.
Speaker 7 (01:54:43):
Say, but I think Buffalo is going to open it
up at it Home Dogs.
Speaker 5 (01:54:49):
I'm going to go with Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:54:51):
I think both of these teams are excellent. I'm gonna
take Baltimore to win the opener. I think that they
get the regular season over Buffalo and then Buffalo sort
of turns the tables on them in the postseason. But
two really good teams. I think they'll both be playing
great well into January. It's a great Sunday night game,
one that I might even stay up to watch the
(01:55:12):
second half listening on.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
You know, if you'll be jacked up off a Patriots win.
Speaker 4 (01:55:15):
I mean if it's a blowout at halftime, you know,
like last year. I think Baltimore blew them out on
a Sunday night game and I didn't really stay up
to watch that.
Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
Listen, listen if you're a Bills fan, watch your fingers,
because the windows slamming shut again.
Speaker 5 (01:55:31):
Here we go, Here we go again.
Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
Morell did you put together that montage I asked for
him closing the window on Buffalo's success.
Speaker 3 (01:55:40):
I'm going with the Ravens started.
Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
In twenty eighteen. You can just go back and get
the tape.
Speaker 3 (01:55:45):
I'm going with the Ravens to win the game, opening
up the AFC East for your new England Patriots. Here
we go, let's go, ra Let's go.
Speaker 4 (01:55:56):
I don't think Ira is a huge clapper. All A
just you are. A description of our A is the
most perfect description ever.
Speaker 3 (01:56:02):
He collapsed.
Speaker 4 (01:56:03):
He just looks like he could poop a piece of
toilet like toilet paper, like, you know, he's so tight
yet it, Mike, He's so tight, but cheeks is so
close together, Mike, he poops paper.
Speaker 15 (01:56:15):
Get it?
Speaker 3 (01:56:16):
Let's go Ravens all right? Monday night on ESPN, ABC, ESPN,
ESPN de Portes. So why does it have to be
on ESPN any ESPN two. Can't they put figure skating.
Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
On his broadcast? Maybe they have a bunch of the Manning.
Speaker 4 (01:56:35):
Cast on ESPN two usually, but they don't do one
for every single game.
Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
I don't know if they know what there is for
this week. I saw that.
Speaker 4 (01:56:44):
Well, of course it's another division game, so why not
have a Manning's there to talk about?
Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
Vikings at the Bears?
Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
Uh, Minnesota by one and a hay.
Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
So again, just another great match up. Ben Johnson going
there to Chicago. Plenty of talent around, Caleb Williams. Caleb
william has plenty of talent, you know, Colston Lovelin, Like
we talked about the other day that they just keep
bringing guys in and you know, is it all going
to come together in Minnesota?
Speaker 3 (01:57:08):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:57:09):
It's we saw JJ McCarthy there, it's more impressed with him.
The second day, I think they'll be even better, you know,
obviously when they have Justin Jefferson in there. So I'm
going to take Minnesota to hold on and I'll lay
that point and a half. But I just I wonder
Chicago's gonna start getting it going because I think if
they do start getting it going, they could be really good.
Speaker 7 (01:57:29):
Minnesota, Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (01:57:33):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Bears at home. I think,
you know, one and a half. Not much of an upset.
I do like I do like Caleb Williams.
Speaker 3 (01:57:42):
It feels bad.
Speaker 4 (01:57:43):
I don't feel bad for him. I think I think
he's kind of a dude. I don't really feel bad
for you. No, I just think that because he cried,
his talent was lessened somehow. That's the disconnect that he
can get. But in terms of being like a leader
and all that stuff, I think that's warranted it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
No, I do not.
Speaker 3 (01:58:01):
But I pity the fool correct very well.
Speaker 4 (01:58:05):
Put No, and you know what this is. This is
really a pick, I think. And Monday night to open
the season, it's Soldier Field is not a great way
to make your debut. If you're JJ McCarthy, so this
is more of a pick against him than it is
for the Bears.
Speaker 3 (01:58:19):
Fair enough, I think the Minnesota Vikings, off the momentum
of their preseason Week two win over the Patriots, ride
that wave.
Speaker 4 (01:58:28):
That's interesting because they lost the game. They're saying they
ride that wave practice they lost the game. This is
like when he tried to say the Patriots actually beat
Houston in the last game of the year when Wes
Welker towards a cl Paul.
Speaker 3 (01:58:43):
They lost the game, but they won the week.
Speaker 4 (01:58:46):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:58:48):
That's largely true from those most of the writers. I
wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (01:58:53):
I wasn't there either.
Speaker 4 (01:58:54):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (01:58:55):
You weren't. I forgot, I went, I came late. I
was no But I think the vice was there.
Speaker 4 (01:58:59):
He says that they won the Day two.
Speaker 3 (01:59:00):
Yeah, Day two, I think the Vikings win the game.
I don't have faith in the in the Bears. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:59:07):
I don't have a lot of faith in the Bears either.
Speaker 3 (01:59:09):
This is kind of and this isn't a Caleb Williams thing,
by the way, I do.
Speaker 4 (01:59:12):
Think Caleb Williams is pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
I just think there's a lot of characters like Ben
Johnson strikes me as a character, Caleb Williams strikes me
as a character. DJ Moore is a character. Like There's
just a lot of guys with personalities that are unique
and maybe you will all go together. But all right, sorry,
it's one fifty nine.
Speaker 3 (01:59:28):
Now we go back to the Patriots Sunday at one
on CBS for those of you who want to know
where to watch CBS. The Raiders at the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (01:59:40):
Oh sorry, Patriots by three line move from two and
a hay to three.
Speaker 3 (01:59:45):
Something's up?
Speaker 2 (01:59:46):
Sums up? Where's the sharps? Where do the sharps know?
I'm gonna go with Patriots on this one. I think
it'll be back and forth game, maybe some sloppiness, you know,
big play here, big play there, But I think in
the end they pull it out a low scoring game.
I'm going to say twenty one to seventeen Patriots.
Speaker 7 (02:00:05):
Now, do I hedge my bet from all access?
Speaker 15 (02:00:08):
Or do I?
Speaker 2 (02:00:08):
You can change the score rate, you can't change the pick.
Speaker 5 (02:00:10):
Okay, I don't know if you.
Speaker 4 (02:00:12):
Can do whatever you want.
Speaker 2 (02:00:15):
Just right now.
Speaker 4 (02:00:16):
I'm just gonna call it out if.
Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
You do, and you're wearing a custom Patriots.
Speaker 7 (02:00:20):
I know, Okay.
Speaker 6 (02:00:21):
My thinking is last year we came out and won
and it gave everyone a ton of false hope, and
then the rest of the season was misery. So you
don't want them the first game and then it's only
up from there.
Speaker 2 (02:00:33):
And I don't know, you don't have to kid, it's me, Alex,
it's your pick.
Speaker 6 (02:00:36):
I just look at the Raiders, and I think a
lot of people overlook this game. But there's something to
be said that Pete Carroll and Gino have been together
quite a while, and I don't know, I could see
Vegas twenty seven Patriots twenty four torture.
Speaker 2 (02:00:54):
He's tortured.
Speaker 3 (02:00:57):
I don't look up the number of times a game
that the Raiders were involved in that one of the
teams had twenty four points. You'll be amazed.
Speaker 4 (02:01:03):
Yeah, that's amazing. I'm going to take the Patriots in
this game in a similar kind of game that Mike
just described. I think that they have the home field
will be impactful. I think there's a lot of energy here.
Fred sort of talked about there should be more excitement.
(02:01:24):
I think there's a lot of excitement for the start
of the season, and I think they're going to get
a good environment to play in twenty three seventeen New England,
but not an easy game. Game that could go either way,
absolutely toss up game. I'm hoping it doesn't come down
to a field goal because the Raiders have an enormous
edge with Daniel Carlson, so I'm hoping it's a six
(02:01:46):
point thing and they need a touchdown at the end.
But I think the running game for the Patriots is
a little better than Ashton genty for the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
Er Okay, yes, Patriots twenty four twenty, So they squeak
out the win and the cover. It'll be a tough game.
Speaker 7 (02:02:07):
Yeah, I hope I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (02:02:08):
Yeah, it'll be a tough game. They'll be at moments
there where might look a little like last year offensive wise,
but there'll be other bright moments. So have no fear.
Patriots pull it out twenty four to twenty. Another game
in which there's twenty four is involved with the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (02:02:24):
I'm going to need to hear more about this off
are okay?
Speaker 3 (02:02:28):
All right?
Speaker 4 (02:02:29):
