Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I think, like most scrimmages at this time
of year, some real good, some some not so good,
some things that got to correct. We went in to
correct that we had to correct, you know. But the
most important thing coming up coming out of that scrimmage
for me was fundamentals, you know, run game fundamentals, pass
coverage fundamentals, and pass.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Rush, you know, and are we coordinated?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Are we doing things the way they're supposed to be done,
and are we doing things the way we've been practicing
them here for the last two three weeks. So, like
I said, work in progress, but definitely some good there
and some really competitive moments for us.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
On events we saw We saw you talking to a
coach talk Kov went out there just just how is
it seeing allegory coach like him? And and what do
you sort of ask a guy like that.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
When you see coach kaoff that I've actually been fortunate
enough to talk to a few times since I've been
down here. And I don't think you'd have a better
resource than professional football. You know, when I was younger,
he was down here and built this from the ground up,
and uh, there's a tremendous tradition here a rich tradition
because of what he did. You know, guys like him
and guys like Tony and they were able to win

(01:02):
really early. But he set the precedent for what the
culture should be. And we want to have a culture
very similar to that. You know, being tough, doing your job,
being accountable, made a great teammate, caring about the people
you coach, all that stuff. That's what he's about. I
think that's why he's been able to win the way
he has that The Rady has the entirety of his
career wherever he was, you know, whether it was at

(01:23):
small school college football, Boston College, pro ball, you know.
And then I was fortunate enough, like I said, growing
up New Jersey and grew up a Giants fan. And
when he came to the Giants, I mean, he brought
that culture there and won at the highest level. So
what he says matters and it works.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
It's right.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Wi Liam talked about it at the scrimmage, about the
one defensive line pass for us because Josh Trayvon, just
what have you seen out of those guys that's campus
cop to progress.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, we have we got a bunch of talent there
on the edge. And again I'm just always going to
go back to what's our play style, you know, being
that way one thousand miles an hour every snow up
of a game. When those guys can bring it that way,
it really it does a lot for our defense. And
I saw a lot of good things from them the
other night. And they've been competing their tail off every
day out here in camp, and Matt Edwards has been

(02:12):
on them, you know, he's been grinding them and they're
responding to the coaching. So seen a lot of good
things out of them so far this summer.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Why do you move to Paul as.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Just another veteran guy who's had success in his career,
You know, I think that's whenever you can have that
or add that to your roster, it's it's important and
obviously helpful. He's got a wealth of knowledge playing in
a bunch of systems, and he's just.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
A good, high character guy. It's a good football player.
So we liked.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
To be sorry, how much value does a guy like
they want through the break the defense when we can
see a line up inside and outside depending of the situation.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, he's got a bunch of value because you know,
he's a three down type of guy. So you know,
he could play early down. He can play obviously in
the past or our situations.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
You can move around.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Super smart guy when it comes to the rush. Has
done a bunch of that, you know, coordinate in that
in his history as a player in this league. So
and he's a super cultural guy, you know what I mean,
tough guy.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
So I like him. I like being around and he
brings a lot to us.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Joshuit said, like him and Smoot. Yeah, they've played so
many games together.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, just in sync out there is That's something you
can see.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
As a coach.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, you can see that. The relationship with people. You know,
when you bring a guy into the building, what's important
is the chemistry and the energy too. That's like the
unspoken part about pro football. You're got to bring the
right people in your building. And guys here already had
a relationship with him, and everybody was.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Happy to have back. You know.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I know Joshua is also especially cool.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
We have poents talked about how versus Chile Devan Lloyd
is and really excited to see him.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
How he is he being versatile under you. I mean,
I know you're a very versatile and yeah, I think
He's done a really good job moving around were trying
to move him around with his alignments. He does some
different things based on you know, what the down and
distance or situation is for us.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
So he's done a good job.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
He's kind of taking on all those roles and run
with it. He's a smart football player and a guy
that I said in the spring, you know, he's kind
of always doing extra always hanging around the building, trying
to watch tape, ask questions, and you really need to
be one of those guys when you're when you have
like a multiple uh, when you're asked to do multiple
roles out there, you know what.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
About a sense of bringing life at.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
I think he's a really competitive guy at the point
of attack. You know, there's a guy who's had success
in this league and he loves to be coached. It
doesn't matter. Like he's never really sitting still. If he's
got down time, he's doing drill work. He goes out
there and tries to compete against our best players every day,
challenges himself, always asking questions and certainly demanding of himself,

(04:44):
you know, critical in the most positive way, watching his
technique every day and trying to get better So those
are guys who love coaching.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
You know.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
He maybe you're.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Fortunate to have a guy like I'm fortunate to have
a guy like that, and you like him in your
scheme due, Yeah, love what he does because I think
he could play with vision on the ball, can get
up there and challenge and play priss. He's physical, so yeah,
all facets of his game definitely apply to.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
What we do.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Recent Eric kind of week till week What do you
see from that in cybertation of DTS? So we kind
of get a little bit of run opposite Georgie Jumperson.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
What have you seen?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah, guy, those guys they're working hard for us. You know,
we're just trying to develop consistency uh in there, and
I think those guys are getting a lot of good work,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
I thought they did some really good stuff into scrimmage.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I thought Lacy had a good scrimmage the other day,
you know, And I thought those guys were working hard.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Running to the ball.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And the biggest thing we talk about a lot is
not staying blocked, and they're doing that, you know, whether
they're grinding blocks and playing primary to secondary or getting penetration. Uh,
they've been doing what we're asking them to do, and
we're gonna keep asking them to do that, you know,
with a great level of consistency.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
In the scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Travis Starder on offense and then he switches jerseys and
goes to their defensive side. Could you kind of talk
about that process? Is whether it communicated to you that
he's coming to defense.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Or yeah, yeah, yeah, we we kind of had that
set in motion, you know where he was going to be.
But he does a lot of that in practice, you
know what I mean, one period he may be with us,
next periods with them. Some days he may start on defense,
then he's working on offense. His meeting schedules was very
much like that. So, like I said the last time
I was up here, he's done a really good job
with that. And I think Liam's done a great job

(06:17):
coordinating that. You know, it's been demanding on him, but
he's responded in every way and they just I.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Don't want to get too deep into it because it's
still early, but do you think he has flexibility to
kind of move around on defense a little bit?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah? He's pretty good athlete.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I mean, can he can do a whole lot You know,
I think there's everything I've watched him do to this
point has been really impressive. So I think there's really
Skot's the limit when it comes to what he's able
to do.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Just training him for you, being able to stay healthy,
you know, being out there last nine days, I guess.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
It's been great man.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
You know, been in that chemistry with the guys, you know,
learning a new defense, competing competing with you know, the
offense each and every day has been fun.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
What have you liked about this defense? And and sort
of how you.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Fit in a difference, like everything about it, you know,
the the versatility of it, you know, uh, you know,
you know how fast we could play in it, and uh,
it's it's built for everybody's strength.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
So I'm living it at Drew Lewis to the defense.
Just what's he been like, not even just on the
field and kind of off the field too.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
Oh, he's been a great heck of a evet. You know,
a guy that's played in his league for a long
time and has been successful. You know, so just picking
his brain. Uh, fun guy to be around, you know,
great personality, you know, brings a lot of energy each
and every day and.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Then have you seen kind of Jari and grow from
you know, as a rookie last year to what he's
doing kind of right now.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
You see a lot of growth.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Man. You know, he he came into this camp with
a mind say that he's not a rookie anymore, you know,
ready to you know, uh, you know, dominate this season.
And you know I can see each and every day,
you know, so my job is, you know, to keep
pushing him and you know, help him get where he wants.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
To get to.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
You feel like you're having a good game for us.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
I think I am uh just trying to stack stack days,
you know, compete, get my hands on the ball, you know,
making sure my alignment, my assignments, you know, and my
keys are on point each and every day.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
So I think I'm pretty doing.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
A pretty good job of frustrating Brian.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Yeah was iron sharper hiren You know, heck of a receiver,
you know, DM. We have a bunch of great receivers.
So just going against them each and every day, you
gotta bring you a game and and that helps me
you know mentally, you know, knowing that I can't take
any days off, you know, I got to bring it
each and every day and each and every play.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
So what are you been learned about Mary Travis as
a receiver?

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Oh, you know, just his how quick he is and
you know how ship shifty is and uh he gets
to a spot and Trevy is able to put it anywhere,
and he's athletic enough to reach out and go get it.
So his ball skids are definitely something that that catches
your eye.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Does that kind of translate when he's playing defense.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
What you got? Of course that's what makes him uh
so so unique.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
You know, he brings that that have those ball skills
from the officer's side and uses them the same way
the Deepenisi does that.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Thinking you see your coverner guy one day and then
communicating with on defense next day.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
Uh nah, it's just you. You just bring that mindset.
You cover who's up in front of you. And that's
a mindset I bring. I know each receiver is different.
Uh so I may have to use a different technique
for each of them, but the mindset is the same.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Just you know, locking on the guy that's in front
of me.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
I know. Something you try to do is always run
along the young guys, who are some of the guys
that have kind of you tried to, you know, help.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Out early and oh yeah, uh, Nico Slaughter, Jabbari, you
know Caleb.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Jari.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
You know those guys you know, just bring him along,
just just helps slowing the game down.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
For how challenging have these last two years been for you?
Just not being able to stay helpy necessarily during during
the regular season, Like what what has been your mindset
moving forward world?

Speaker 2 (09:51):
It's been. I'm grateful for it. You know.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
It's allowed me to be mentally tough, and it's allowed
me to be present and learn to be where my
feet are and and realize what God is trying to
teach me in each and every moment so that you
know when it when. I know the trouble don't last always,
so when I do get through the storm, I'm mentally
you know, mature and mentally strong you know, to to
go through anything. So I'm grateful for it. You know

(10:15):
it's behind me. You know, I'm being present and excited
for this year.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Did you mentioned sat in days?

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Is that just really a focus?

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah? I did it.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Yeah, each day is it's on, So you know you
have a a good day. Uh, the day prior doesn't
mean you're gonna have a great day today. So you
gotta be intentional, you know, uh take it one day
at a time, that short term memory, uh, because these days.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Is on So place, did you chad your off season
training at all? Did you up in this off season?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (10:43):
I W I would say it like, Uh I did
kind of up a little bit more. Uh I I
g I added a couple pounds of muscle, um two
a five now, so feeling good at that. So uh,
I'll change a little bit, but uh pretty much kept
the same as you try to work on speed, strength,
mobility and uh you know, keeping my diet clean as well.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Do you feel like you can already tell a different result?

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Oh yeah, I'm I mean I gained a couple of pounds,
but I still feel fast, still feel quick. So uh
it's it's good. It's good weight.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
So what's it been like himself?

Speaker 5 (11:15):
Oh it's it's been great man, A guy with a
lot of energy, a great coach, you know, smart coach,
and it's very accountable.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
You know.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Each day we're going over mistakes that the office had
made or defense that made and we're seeing it as
a team and learning, you know, how we can correct
those miss those mistakes going into the next day. So
it's just been an accountability around the group or around
the team so that each day we know what we
had to fix and and make sure we don't make
him again.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
He Get said he wants the communication always kind of
be open and honest, not make an impact on you
guys as.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
Player definitely, Uh, you want transparency between the players and
the coaches, and that's gonna allow us to you know,
get through you know, tough times and get through adversity
so that we could capitalize on, you know, whatever issue is.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Man Kemp has he kind of seems like he's your
hands on coach, like he'll come coach the DB's coach
a different positions where it's just how has that kind of.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Been seen there? Got so a coach man, he's a
type of the coach you'll run through a wall four. Uh.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
You know he brings that energy every day. It's consistent,
so that's how you know it's genuine. You know, he
hasn't changed one bit, very intentional and believes in each
and every one of his players. So you know, you
can't ask for a better coach like that that that
trusts you and believes in you. And and wants to
get the best out of you.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
So thank you, thankcited
