Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello everyone, and welcome back to RAMS revealed presented by
Sleep Number, the official sleep and wellness partner of the
Los Angeles Rams. I'm JB. Long and our guest this
week is a rookie Edge. He's already been named the
NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. I like
his chances in October as well. Jared Vers is here.
(00:23):
We've been looking forward to this. How are you? I'm good?
Are you? I almost said, twenty three year old Jared Verse?
But you turned twenty four next Monday? All right, yeah,
next Monday. We're sorry. So the timing is good. After
the trip to Seattle in week nine and anything on
your birthday wish list.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Just get some wins. That's all I really care about
getting wins.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
What could be better? How was your mini bye weekend?
Was speaking?
Speaker 3 (00:42):
He was speaking of We had a little little Goop
Pailottle team party. You had a good time.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Who led that Halloween party?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Halloween party? How'd you like him? Like all tatted it up?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
You saw it?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I'm like, like, I face saw him.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I was like, but who the hell is it? Like?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I was like confusing who it was. I'm like but
I don't know who that is, and I'm like, oh
my god, this is a nice like costal. I thought
he was gonna win the cost of contest.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
I assume it's temporary, but it'd be cool if he
like just came out and sleeves and seeattle on surprise
but obvious.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
So it was like all of his negative thing.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
I was like, Oh my god, what do you like
to do away from the facility when you're not partying
with QB one?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Uh, just be chilling for I mean, I'll play like
the game sometimes. I really like reading. That's like my
main thing. I'll just kind of go home, read a book,
chill by my pool, doing something like that, like just
to relax.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
What type of books? What's your genre of choice? I
read a lot everything.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Right now I'm kind of dwelt like diving into like
self help books type things. Right now I'm reading Tuesdays
with MOI. It's a really good book. Vague book. I
recommend it to anybody.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Hard copy. You like the audio.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Books, I can't.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
I don't like audio book, Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I like having it in my hand, like I'll be
going to make it out like Bones and Nobles and
like local bookstores out and there's not a lot of
nice bookstores out here. I like making out of one
of them to see what they have, and they're like,
I love the hard copies.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I can't do that. Oh good. Get prepared for some
inbound recommendations from the Ramley on your reading list. I'm
ready for.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Let's get to some thoughts on that win of the Vikings.
I know it's been several days now, but what was
the significance of that win to you and your teammates.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I mean, that's a that's a very good team, you
know what I mean across the board. They have probably
one of, if not the best wide receiver you know,
in the league. Right now, he's a dog and you know,
try to maintain him, try to you know, keep him
under control, which you know early on he was. They
were dotting stuff up, they were marching down the field.
You know, it seemed like they could do almost anything
they wanted. So when we was able to you know,
rally together, be likeright, let's calm down, let's get this
(02:26):
work in, you know, get that win ultimately over them,
it was like, all right, this is a good thing.
Now we know what we're actually capable of when we,
you know, put everything together, and that was just a
small little sliver of what we can do. Obviously, there's
a lot of mistakes. We made, a lot of mistakes
they made, but you know, we can get better.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
For me, I noticed that all of your two and
a half career sacks so far have been in prime time.
Is there a special jews that comes with playing on
the lights? And what do you think is so far
in prime time?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Not?
Speaker 1 (02:47):
So far in prime time? It's different.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Like you're like warming up, you know, people still making
their way into the stadium. You're like, ay, it's whatever.
And then like you come out with the helmet on
to a team warm up, people still making their way
ins like whatever.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Then the second of that ball is kicked off, it's
packed out. They're yelling this.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I'm like, oh my god, this is is the NFL
for real? Like this is how so fire is when
it's packed.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Let's get into trash talk and I feel like that's
the moment right now. I'm sure you knew it was coming,
Like give us a crash course on the art as
you see it.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
I mean, so the way my little brother and me
just had this conversation not too long ago, my dad sent,
Oh my mom sent the whole little video to my
group chat, like my family group chat and everything like that,
and bout a little brother call me afterwards after watching
He's like, well, I was just talking to dad about it, like,
how do you even do all this?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Like why do you even talk so much trash?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Like, because that's just how I am, And to me,
it's just basically, you have to back it up when
you talk trash. You can't talk trash and back it up.
If you do that, then you're just wasting your breath
and no one's gonna listen to you. But when you're
beating on somebody like physically and like you're knocking them down,
you're knocking to back, you're pushing them back over and
over again, then you get in their face and go like,
oh yeah, I'm gon to do this again. We start
hyping it up. It gets your teammates hype, like Kobe
(03:51):
was all hyped off it, Bobby was hyped off it,
be Wise hyped off it. Like a couple times ak
to they're.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Like, bro, you get a chill.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I'm like, you know him not, like I don't know
why you asked that question really just like getting you know,
kind of just repeating the same things like I'm gonna
get after you, like I'm gonna beat you, I'm gonnaock
you back, like just really getting their heads and it's
kind of like once you focus on me for a second,
you're gonna get off the ball late.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
I do want to follow up in some of your
greatest hits from that micd up which has made the rounds,
But first let me ask, like how meaningful is it
to be playing for a head coach who has your
back on that, who actually kind of likes the edge
that you bring to the field.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
It's very good, you know, because knowing that coach McVay
always has my back, you know, knowing that all these
coaches always have my back, and I have nothing to
worry about.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
You know.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
When I talk to this trash, they just know he's
gonna back it up. He's gonna bring it if I'm
talking to trash and something's good about to happen, like
whether I'm doing it or whether it's one of my teammates,
like hoy I was talking at trash before this. Me
and Hoyt shid that joint sack and then hoy just
cams and whom cleans it up.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'm like, yeah, I like this, Like it's just a
lot of fun. Speaking of sacks, where did the bending
the school celebration back on the Minnesota faith will come from?
Because I know that's something you've done in your college
days too, like you studied the opponent and their tradition.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, it was so Honestly, I wasn't gonna do it,
like that's kind of the tradition. I didn't want to,
you know, step on their toes or anything like that.
But once one of our teammates, Cam Kok, I heard,
you know, he went down to the ground. They started
doing it while he was on the ground. The one
thing you can't do with me, and I urge every
team not to do this, is don't disrespect any my
teammates with me, because when you do that, that turns
me up a lot, Like it gets to be like
on like a whole nother wavelength that I can't even tap.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Into, like on like a day to day basis.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
So when I saw that, I was like, oh, yeah,
it's overweight. So we started turning it up. I got
the sack. My first thought was like, yeah, let me
hear cameras all on me, the lights all on me.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
I'm like, let's see this. Let's see this.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Had some of the Rams fans in the crowd doing it.
We all started, you know, having the whole stadium doing it.
Is like the energy after that moment was a whole
different than what it was before. They were you like
this in Albany. Yeah, okay, Now it was weird though,
I all but dy I talked like less although why
I just like I'd like go dominate people and then
I just kind of like walk back to a lot
might if somebody says something to me, then like turn
(05:46):
up into how I am Now?
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Is it because there was less attention less spotlight than
maybe at Florida State or in the NFL It.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Might have been, But I think like it was kind
of weird, Like I talked trash and practices all the
time at Albany, and I think it's just because like
me and my teammates like well started to get back
into it. But like at all when Eve when we
were playing other teams, not a lot of them like
would like say something back to me. It just kind
of like sit there and kind of take it.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Almost the highest ranked former great Dane to be drafted. Now,
Jared versus with us. You had to wait to get
on that college football field, didn't you. Yeah, at your year,
pandemic year.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I took about I think it took me almost two
and a half years.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Then we played a four game season in the spring
and summery again, that my first full season my junior year.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Got it. Yeah, all right, let's get to it. Miked
up greatest Hits. This one has done some numbers on
rams platforms. But I feel like I'm glad to be
with you right now because there's some opportunity to follow
up and get clarity on a few things. Right. I
want to be better than anyone who ever lived.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, that's so.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It's just like I always tell people, I don't want
to be the best, like I'll be the best. It's
not something last strive too. But I obviously want to
be the best. Like I don't want to say it
like that though, but I do want to be the best.
It's obviously everyone's goal. So I just want to be
bed and everyone that's you know, I had to be
to everyone that's been behind me, everyone that's gonna follow up.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I want to be better. Nice it takes an arm.
I'm glad they realized now I can get better. Finally,
this was talking to Joshua Carty about how much you
embraced the double teams right, both individually and then what
it means for your teammates. Jared.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, Now when you double team me, like even just
talk about my teammates first, it opens up so many
one on ones, b Wise getting one on one, Hoy, Kobe, Fisk,
Bobby all these other guys are getting one on ones
and they're very good one on one Rushes. It's over
it when you give me a double team, like personally,
Like personally, now I can figure out how like to
get better because now you took away one option from me,
Like what you're chipping me with the running back or
(07:32):
you're doubling me with the guard. Now I can't go
inside if you have the guard, so I have to
stay outside. Now I gotta work on my speedwash more
or like because now he can sit heavy because now
he knows the running backs coming on the outside if
they're doing all three. So it just it makes me better,
Like I have to like analyze the game a lot faster,
and now I'm gonna get those a lot more.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
I'm like, all right, Like, how am I gonna defeate it?
This happens. Maybe it's just me, but I thought that
Cardi the kicker, the rookie kicker, was an interesting partner
to be chilling with on the bench and sharing those
thoughts with Is that something you've done regularly or did
he just happen to be there?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
We called you always just chill next to each other,
like go like make a kick and then like offenses
on the field. So I'll just be sitting down and
like me and him were just sitting next to ja
other like so so like as he did like on
the micd up, like they took out a lot of
stuff with me and him and just talk about like
some theamandom stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
I'd love to see him talk trash.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
I don't think he can. Just don't think he's like
able to, Like he just chills.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
This one made an impression on me because sometimes I
forget like rookies seeing the NFL in person, What an
impression that can make on you, even though you're doing
it yourself. But when you see like Puok and Takua
do his thing for real, for real, for the first time,
that raised your eyebrows.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
No, because it's like you see it like you see
it on TV all time.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
You see all the highlights on TikTok, all the highlights
on Instagram, snatch out whatever it is. But when you
see him like in person, you see him jump up
and make it catch and take off down the field
for twenty thirty oh game, You're like and like I
got like a little glimpse of it, you know, as
you know, being here for the day of my time
I have been, but like seeing it like in game
in person, like right in front of your eyes, You're
like like you almost like stars struck. And then I'm like, wait,
(08:57):
that's my teammate, Like I talked to him every day.
But then you're like, well, what he just do? Like
how's that possible?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah? I feel like that it was kind of your
first peak. Matthew Stafford exposure too, Like he's had some
great moments, but a full game, four touchdowns that must
have felt different With Stafford.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
The weird thing is every time I see him like
throw the ball like deep, I like stand up. I'm like,
oh my god, I'm like this is about to be
something crazy, Like jumps up every time and I'm like,
I'm like, like, it's trying to stay calm, and I'm like,
because every time he goes for something like that, I'm like, yeah,
it's about to be something crazy.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Yeah, what about to Brandon Fist, this reminds me of
Florida State as you take the field to try and
go close that out in the fourth quarter. I'm sure
you had a bunch of those moments in your season
together there, but is that what you were calling back to.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yes, it was just the energy actually from the crowd
that we were getting nice. The crowd was just so ecstatic.
They were yelling, their screaming, like it was like a
whole different vibe than what I felt, you know, previously,
And it reminded me of Floyd stakcause when you have
Floyd State and you're winning and everything like that, it's like, yeah,
it's a different feeling like that. You can't compare anything
like it. And that was my first time feeling They're like,
oh my god, like this is the exact same thing.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah. My partner de Marco far has actually said this before,
like the challenge to Rams fans as much as we can,
we gotta get Jared Verse some more silent count opportunities, right,
Like that's when you can really take it to the
next level. Oh it's over with man. Here's the thing though,
for all we talked about so far, like post game,
it's all love, it's all very cordial. You have an
ability to flip the switch. It seems that right, like
(10:16):
you do it with a smile on your face. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
No, it's just like even just we're calling back to
the Cardinals game. Now, I played my best friend Trey Benson.
That's like one of my brothers, one of my best friends.
And during the game, I do not know him. We
are not fans on not buddy buddy anything like that.
Like it's like I'm like a whole different person. At
the end of the game, you're back to my best friend.
And that's just how it is. Like during the game,
I'm gonna be wood I'm gonna be dispectful, I'm gonna
be like really getting after you, really trying to throw
(10:38):
you off your keys. But after the game, like I'm
gonna be honest, like if you had to play, if
you did some good Stuff'm gonna honest with you. I'm
gonnaell you, I'm gonna give it a due respect.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
At the end of the day, and you were genuinely
concerned about Like Darris saw their injured left tackle and
followed up on him for.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Example, Yeah, and I wanted to know was he okay,
because I didn't know how bad the injury was, Like
I was the one, you know that it happened against,
like being him, would engage with each other. And then
when one of my teammates fell into the back of
his legs and I was actually worried about because you know,
at the end of the days, like it's football, but
wall in this together, like wall trying to you know,
become better visions of myself, become better players, become better people.
And just to see somebody go to an injury like that,
it's tough.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Chris Cooper, the offensive line coach for the Vikings, came
up to you in a moment that was captured and says,
you don't know me, but you're gonna be a hell
of a player. How much do those moments as you're
coming up in this league, like do you store those
away in your memory bank?
Speaker 3 (11:23):
They go right and upfront, because like to be recognized
by coaches like that, you know, when they had to
watch me all week they had to watch you know
what I'm capable of doing, and it was a shortened week,
so you know, they didn't have a lot of time
to prepare for me. I didn't have a lot of
time to prepare for them. But just to be recognized
like that, you know, from a good offensive line coach
who has a very good offensive line. To hear that,
I'm like, okay, Like now, it's kind of take it
to a next level because I don't want his words
(11:44):
to go a van I have.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
A feeling based on what you've said so far. Do
you know the answer to this question? But I'll ask
it anyway. Any concern about being circled on the scanner reporter,
having that target on your back?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Now, now circle it up. It's not talking me. I
want you to please. That's actually the goal, because that's
how it is. Like, it's no seeking. I'll talk a lot.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
It's no secret what I'm finna do.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
It's no seck.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
I'm gonna go out there and give you a lot
of efforts, Like you know what move I'm about there.
I'm probably just gonna run down your chest and then
they go around you like a cuckly No whate's coming.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
I want you to, Jared, what's the number one thing
you think you've learned from now what a seven game
sample size in this in this league that you wish
you would have known, maybe as recently as training camp.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
These are the best athletes in the world, Like you hear,
like going into you know, cop from college, you know
during the whole uh you know, draft process, you hear
and you're like, oh yeah, like you know, there's the
best athletes in the world. Now when you're on that
field with them, these are the best athletes in the world.
Like it's no doubt about it. Like this, these are
stronger than any other people you'll probably come across. A
lot of them are faster than any other people you'll
(12:45):
come across, especially when it comes to the skill position.
But I'm just talking the line and like these guys
are they're legit across the whole board.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
As well as you've played, has it been at all
frustrating for you to have some of those near misses,
like those opportunities slip through your fingers because on our
side of the equation, we're like, hey, we love Jared,
but once he starts cashing in these opportunities. It's going
to be different. What's that like from your lens?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah, no, it's it's frustrating. But I live by a
one play mindset. That last play happened.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
What can I do next?
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Like, I missed a couple of sacks here in there
and a couple of understatement. To be quite honest with you,
I've missed a lot of players that I could have,
you know, made maybe changed the game. Maybe we could
have backed this team up a little bit more, maybe
you know, at the beginning of the game. But at
the end of the game. I could have been a
game changer.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
But it happened.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
I gotta sit with that. I gotta go from it.
And that's where I've been doing a lot more in
practices like that. I've been working on a lot more wraps,
a lot more tackle opportunities where I'm making sure, okay,
in game, I'm not gonna miss this again.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, I was wondering, like, how do you calibrate that
because you don't get to go out and play full
speed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Yeah, Coach Caniglio, he saw linebacker. Coach has given me
a couple drills and everything like that. We'll wrapping out
before practice, we'll get a couple win after practice. You know,
He'll make sure, like we're gonna miss. Tackles are going
to happen, but the goal is to limit them as
much as possible.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
And that's what I've been trying to do.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
And I feel like I've done a good jobs so far,
but I gotta nail it so much more.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
You and Byron Young seem to have a really unique connection,
like you're almost inseparable. Can you take us inside that relationship?
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, I mean be when I first got here, you know,
I got to meet him. I got to meet him
in Kobe when I like right after the day after
I got drafted, there was like a little party going
down on uh I think it was a long beach
or something like that. I got to go down there.
I got to meet the b y. I got to
meet Kobe and you know, talk to him a little bit.
A relationship didn't you know, start until I actually got
here and I started working with him on the field
and we're working across from each other.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
I'm like, this guy's legit.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Like you know, I've watched rams games last year everything
like that, but seeing him on the field and how
fast he is. I'm like, bro, this dude, hold on,
this guy's a dog. And then like the work after
he has you know, we'll be on the field out
to practice, get some extra work in, get some extra
get off some extra you know, lifts and stuff like that,
and we just be able to you know, get closer.
Now he'll like call me. He'll just say some dumb
stuff just to call me. I'm like, but call him
(14:48):
off phone, or like I'll do the same thing to him.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I'll call him.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
I'll just say something annoying just to piss him off.
Or you know, in the morning and the boy like
we we don't have went on the special team, so
you know, we'll go in a little bit later, you know,
grab some food together, just will talk about other day.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
You know, get like a good conversation going. Does that matter,
Like you're on the opposite ends of the line of scrimmage,
but that cohesion, do you think it translates.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Almost definitely, because now almost instantly I can realize what
he's gonna do, and he can realize how.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
I'm gonna do.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Like if I'm going to take a high rush, he
can realize, okay, if he's taking a high rush, the
quarterback might have to scramble out his way, So if
he takes an underneath rush, he's gonna have to stack
back on top, like if he takes it up and
under or vice visa. If I'm going to power rush
right down somebody's chest, I might not have full view
site until I extend, So before that zero point five seconds,
if he takes a high rush, he'll have the quarterback
being able to roll out, so being able to just
(15:33):
to kind of know each other, like on that scale.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
You guys wear the matching black undershirts too, so on
game that I always know it's one of you. Is
that plan coordinated? Is that where just the style that
you both like?
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Literally, I just I just love the black undershaped I
just like vibe with you, like I never take it off.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Now. Week nine takes it to Seattle, the first of
two games against this division rival. The rematch, interestingly enough,
scheduled for Week eighteen, the regular season finale. Have you
ever been to Seatt Oh?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yeah, I've only been there once, actually done a pre draft.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Pre draft process for a visit. Okay, one of the
coolest places to play in the National Football League. I
think you'll love. I think it's right up your ally.
It's your style. I want to ask about your process
for studying opposing tackles. Okay, so in your game week,
And the reason I asked is because there's uncertainty about
who's gonna play for Seattle. Charles Cross having a great
season at left tackle, grading out as one of the
(16:23):
highest in the league. If Lucas, though at right, has
been out with an injury. So when you're trying to
map out your week and study what techniques you're gonna
be going up against, what's that process like for you?
Speaker 3 (16:32):
So I always start off with fasting second down. I
want to know how your one game is. How do
you attact the one game? Are you a strong guy?
You got the type of guy who's gonna maul somebody
and try to take him to the goro ound? You
got type of guy who's just gonna do good enough
of his job. Because if you're the second one, you're
not gonna have a good game against me. But if
you know, after I kind of scale that, figure out
how you're gonna block my lines. If it's coming your wave,
it's coming oppositely the way you know QB designed ones like,
(16:53):
how you're gonna handle all that? I get into the
thry down. That's why it gets exciting, Like what can
you handle fighting? I always check how well can you
handle power? If you can handle very well, that means
you're probably a very strong tackle who probably has a
little bit more weight underneath them, which means you probably
a little bit lighter, or not a little bit lighter,
you're probably a little bit slower, so the speedwashers might
be more available. But also want to see how your
chips are going. How do you guys do the slide protection?
(17:14):
It's a slide going away from the back? Is it
coming to the back? Do you focus on the key player?
If you focus on the key players, like if you say,
you know, one week they're playing the Raiders, all right,
how much often is the slide going to Crosby or
you playing the Ronce? How often is it going to
Myles gat Like how often is it going to these
key players? And then I have to focus on, Okay,
how is the slide? Is he immediately jumping out to
you or is he kind of waiting? Just try to
take your hip because that was kind of the problement
I had to face with the Vikings. They kind of
(17:36):
do the know tempo tempo and they come and take
my hip and I was like, ah, I had to learn,
you know. I had to take two good hits before
I realized, Okay, this is what they're doing. So that's
what kind of I learn, kind of the protection schemes.
But then one on one, I just want to learn, Hey,
where do your hands go? They coming outside, they're coming inside?
What kind of what can I break down to get
any advantage over you?
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Are you connected with Aaron Minor chance, Aaron Donald? Yeah,
I got to speak them a little bit. I mean,
I hear an answer like that, and for all of
his other worldly talent, but people never gave him enough
credit for was the hours he put in here, like
how detailed he was. And to hear that riff right
there tells me you've got some of that too, Like
this is a science for you as much as it
is an art.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Oh yeah, no, it's definitely something you got a key
on because every player is completely different. Like I wish
I could just say I could go out there and
play the same guy every week and I know I
can beat them every time, But that's not true. A
lot of these guys are quicker. A lot of these
guys are faster. Like you know, Trent is one of
the strongest people I've ever seen in my life, like
football wise, and like all right, so you know you
can run down, but you gotta kind of figure out
how to manipulate the things that he can do.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Just as a depth, left or right? Do you have
a side that you prefer? Me and b Hy usually
work left and right.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, Like he'll stay on the LEFTID I'll stay on
the right side, But we both switch all the time
because of the way we want to you know, defense
and stuff like that. Sometimes he'll be on the right,
sometimes I'll be on the left. Sometimes we'll just stay
on those sides just because he walks back against the
left tack, I'll walk back against the way.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
So not really but kind of got it all right.
We've covered your background a bit both here and in
some other interviews. Here's a quick cliff notes version though,
so I can get to a question. Third of six children,
is that right? Do you have that order? Correctly? Grew
up in Dayton, Ohio and a hoops family. Your sister's
still playing at Georgia set for a big season. You
lettered in hoops and track in addition to football. Is it? Okay,
(19:15):
won the state four by four in then Pennsylvania. By
that point in your career, all right, here's where I'm going.
You had more catches I read as a tight end
than tackles in high school. Yeah. Only in high school.
Only started one game a defensive Wow. Okay, so you
had some game on offense. Yeah. I was like that.
I was like that, Well, knowing that you're gonna say that,
at what point do we talk to Sean McVay and
(19:37):
Mike Lafleur about maybe working something in on a goal
line package?
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Okay, I've actually been mentioning this like three or four times.
I've been told to put me on.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
You know, don't. I don't need that goal line. I
want to open field. Put me on.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Let me, let me go out there, let me show,
let me show him.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Go somebody up.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
If I get locked up, I will just stick with
the defense. But you know, just let me get that chance.
Let me show you a little bit.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
I love that. So I'm like, hey, can we get
dared to touch it? It's like forget a touchdown? Want
rock Bowers numbers.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
That's what I'm saying I'm trying to put up something crazy.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Before we get into a different segment. You and I
were talking before about what a heavy influence in your
life your mother has been, and that she was maybe
about to go watch that YouTube clip if you're miked up,
and you said, Mom, hold up, you'll find something else
to do.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
So my mom said it to the group chat she
sent to you.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
You know, it's me and all my slippings in the
group chat, me and my parents, all that stuff. She
sends it to the group chat, and I'm like, Mom,
did you watch it yet? And my Mom'm like, don't
watch it because I knew, like how much I was
cussing in like, I knew how much I was talking crazy.
I'm like, Mom, don't watch it because I don't guess
what my mom. My mom doesn't even know I cuss
and stuff like that. My dad go text back and
go like, oh no, she's watched it many many times already.
(20:40):
I'm like, I like, I had like a heart attack.
I like call my brother. I'm like, but do you
think you actually watched?
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Like I was scared?
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Jared, how much of your work ethic do you draw
from those parents? Oh?
Speaker 3 (20:49):
One hundred percent of it. You see how much they work,
Like my dad wake nights, my mom woke days. They
were both like kind of missing each other oftentimes just
so we could know as a family, you know, lived
the life we had. I never had the one for
any day. I never had the worry about anything like
that growing up. And that's because of them, because they
work so hard that their kids never had to wagy
about anything like that. And to see that every day
of your life, like it's not something you see like
(21:10):
once every year or something, that's something you see every day,
and it just made me want to be better, not
just for myself before my pants.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
So they never had the one for anything. Yeah, thanks
for that. That was really awesome. All right. Time now
for the wind down, brought to you by Sleep Number.
Each week here on rams revealed, we get insight into
how sleep and recovery impacts performance in the NFL. Performance
in the NFL is the topic, and our good friend
Jordan Rodrieg from The Athletic had a postgame quote from
your Thursday that I want to read here. You said,
(21:37):
when they get tired, I'm not gonna get tired. I'm
going to keep talking. I'm going to keep being loud,
They're gonna get more tired, They're gonna fall down. So
I wonder is conditioning your superpower and how do you
flex it?
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Yeah, I mean I condition a lot during the off seasons,
probably when I get the most in. Even now during
the season, I'll probably get in one day.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
You know, we'll get on the vice of climbate. Hate
the vice climbate is one of the toughest things. That's
your nemesis.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Yeah, that ain't gonna lot that thing is hard, Like
I've never like, there's very few way guys I've ever
done with like at the end of my legs were
like no, they felt like I couldn't feel them. Yeah,
that's one of them. But during the weekend or during
the week I'll try to get in one of those.
During the off season, I try to condition a lot,
and even during practices during the off season, I try
to talk a lot because that's just kind of like
how I kind of get conditioned in wall practicing.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Yeah, well, it goes to your pattern too, like who
you aspire to be. If you're studying first and second
down running game, you want to be in every down
defensive edge, You're not coming in just for NASCAR pack. No,
I don't want to just.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Be on that third down, third and six plus now
put me, put me in every downcadch don't take me up, all.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Right, I few more to finish and then we'll get
you to your off day. The Athletic just released a study.
Don't know if you saw this, but NFL teams apparently
go through anywhere from thirty six hundred to forty three
hundred uncrustables a week. I don't know if you got
uncrustables as part of your game. That multiplies to at
least eighty thousand pbmj's per year. The Rams do their apart,
but but there are no means like the NFL leaders.
(22:56):
I'm wondering where would you ballpark your uncrustables consumption? Like
my personal one? Yeah? Do you do you take down
PB and J like a year? Nah? Well, I like it.
That's part of your daily routine, game day routine.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I might have a p ba J a year a year,
like one or two a year. I'm like, I barely
you know. I might even have like halftime when I'm
like a hungry because you.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Don't like him, or because you're disciplined and go in
other directions. Let's go with the second one. I'm reminded
by the way I asked you during training camp, like
you have a nickname you like and you said Mark
was like suggests V eight right. Oh yeah, I gotta apologize.
I misread that one. For whatever reason, my mind goes
to V eight like yeah, and I walked away like
(23:38):
you are such a bonehead. He clearly meant like V
eight the engine three times. I gotta own that one.
Didn't want to not circle back to that. And finally
this has become a RAMS revealed tradition. Now Jared our
grease bored portrait courtesy a video trainee. Fernanda actually really good.
(23:58):
What do you think that? She really good? I'm that handsome.
That's really good. How'd you doing the beard?
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I think she I think she actually did perfect. She
got perfect edges and everything, perfectly crafted and everything. I
think it's a little more pointy at the bottom, but
you know, everything else pretty good.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
I like.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
That's perfect.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Fair always does an amazing job with these. We'll let
our audience check it out as we say goodbye to
Jared Verse. Wish you well this week. Thank you for
joining us each week for Rams revealed presented by sleep
Number and get yourself a birthday win and maybe a
couple of takeaways to go with it. Jared Verse, Everybody
