Speaker 1 (00:00):
How's it going everyone? Welcome to Rams Revealed on the
Road here in Baltimore as LA prepares for a trip
across the Pond to finish the first half of their
schedule against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Our guest this week Laurel Murchison,
coming off his first sack of the season. He took
us inside that goal line stand and so much more
that got the Rams their fourth win on defense. Well,

(00:26):
thanks for coming by and sitting down with us. I
understand you just got back from Camden Yards. That has
to be one of the more interesting places you've ever
lifted weights.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
For sure. For sure, I didn't imagine that.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Did it have the baseball field to it? I know
you weren't out on the grass.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
But it had a baseball smell, Like it smelt like
like I was in like BCU baseball again, Like it was.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Crazy, But they had the big dusty ones for you
football players, for sure, you had everything you needed. So
let's start with this. Why when the defense dominates is
it described as an ugly win? Was that not a
thing of beauty for you and your teammates?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, it was so beautiful for us. I mean that
goal line stot was like one of the biggest highlights
like ever, Like it was everybody was so hypened playing together.
It was fun for me.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Give me a more perspective on that. You were watching
from the sideline, I think, right, we're not on goal line,
But why did that mean so much to you and
your teammates.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Because it shows you, like everyone in the one yard line,
like three players in the road trying to run the
same sneak and you know, it's kind of easy for
teams when you do the little touch p his thing.
So them being able to stop that like three times
in a row and then they give it a Derek
the last time. That was big.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
It's not Jalen Hurts though. It's the tight end Mark
Andrews under center.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Very true, that's even you know, even bigger guy. So
for them to do that, it's definitely.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
So tell me about your captain Quinton Lake. We know
he's been due, right, Were you guys aware of how
long it's been?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Absolutely not, absolutely not.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
He's been such a great ram and he just has
not been able to pull in his first pick. To
see him get it yesterday, what was that like amazing?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Like you know, you just see he just shows you
hard work pays off, you know on the way he
leaves us, and you know way he works as well,
it shows up on tape and for him to get
that turnover it was huge.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
What do you think the big adjustment was? Maybe from
that opening drive, bending but not breaking, limiting them to
a field goal and then pitching to shut out the
rest of the way.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Just settling down, you know sometimes like stuff get to
fly as soon as you get out there, so just
calming down and you know, letting everybody, you know, let's
just do our job and let's have fun. Like energy
creates everything. So once we got our energy right, you know,
it was a little like ugly out there as far
as like the rain, you know, make you feel a
little bit rough and starting off. So once we got
our energy right and we got together, it was over

(02:21):
from here.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
How about the linebackers behind you? You're without Omar, but
you have a good effort from Troy, defensive debut from
the underrafted rookie Sean Dolac and then Nate Lamman with
a franchise record seventeen tackles.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
That is insane. I mean you gotta love it, man,
Like those guys, like those guys lead us rather like
you know, you feel comfortable with whoever goes in, so
uh seeing Dolac get you know, his first pt like
on defense, and you know, we know Troy, like Troy's
always been a great leader ever since I've been here.
You just steel comfortable and the landman like you know, seventeen.
It's crazy, like you know, he's been doing it and
it's been showing up since Ota, so you know, we're

(02:55):
not surprised. We're just happy. What type of season is
Byron Young having man domin? You know, you love to
see that as well, because this man been posting pilates
like all freaking off season, and just to see it
work and just see the work he put in and
how it's showing up is amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's been a long time since your last sack. How
did it feel to go unobated to the quarterback and
collect one in the spin cycle?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Man, it just felt like the monkey was off my back,
Like you know, I tried the gritty but taller jumped
on my back and ruined it. So shout out to him.
But it was fun, man, Like, no matter how they come,
you gotta be grateful because it's hard to get sacks
in this league.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
No pilates involved in your sack.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Nah, No Polatas, just like I guess I don't know,
no politas though.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's gotta be so unblocked to the quarterback. Is that
like the equivalent of a skill position player going into
the end zone untouched?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Absolutely, I guess I think. So you just got to
make sure you make it whenever you're wide open, because
two years ago, versus the Packers, I was wide open
again and I let him go because I thought he
threw the ball.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
So it reminded me of that Christmas Day. Wasn't that
your RAMS debut when you doubled its? Yeah, well do
you remember about that one?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Everything from the dream I had that morning, to like
me not knowing everybody's name on the team and just
like just being out there, just playing free, not even
really knowing the playbook.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
So you walk up Christmas morning from a dream that
you were gonna get one?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Absolutely? Absolutely. I dreamed about the whole thing, and then
I just felt like, you know, when I ran out
of the RAM for the first time, it just felt
like I wasn't mad in it. It was up from there.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Anybody else deserve a shout out from your fourth win
here in Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Fourth win. Shoot the whole defense and the offense, you know,
just to be able to score and have fun together
like you gotta love it.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
I'm sorry that Tyler ruined your sack celebration. Got to
give you some clearance next time. Yeah, he got to.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Now we gotta find he gotta stay away from me
whenever I get a sack, because I'm gona go crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
He was in your seat not too long ago, and
he described you as the glue guy. That was a revelation.
He says, you got the power to say something crazy
and make the.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Whole room laugh. Yeah, yeah, I take that. I take
that Allington definitely. I'm the one who's just gonna yell
out something random and there everybody's gonna look like, come
on now. Yeah, I'm surprised about every day for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Plug the show. When are we gonna see you again
on the social channels? Y'all can see me soon. I'm
a film next week.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I'm start filming next week and then we're gonna we're
gonna get it going, all.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Right, So we'll get some more culinary insights from the
Greater Los Angeles area.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I'm telling you whatever, whatever type of foods y'all need
really to seafood, so soul food not really, but anything
else Tie let me know.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I know love that. How has it been here in Baltimore?
Any good tastes?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Uh? It's a restaurant called Jerk at Night that I
went to after the game. Then it was probably like
top two oxtairs I've had with Rights, top two, top
to ever really ever? Okay, for sure soft flavor. Right's good.
Mac and cheese is good.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to hit that on the way
of the air before we'll go back to LA. So
we talked about some of your high points, right, some
of the career high water marks. How tough was it
last summer to be that close to a new season
and to hit injured Preserve with a preseason injury.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Man, it was really tough. But you know, the first one,
the first one was just uh, when I brought my arm,
I was just more like, Okay, it's not that bad.
You know, we got six weeks and then we'll be back,
so you know, but going into that first practice back
from breaking my arm and breaking my foot, that was
like really good gut punching so you know, it was
it had its low points, but uh, I credit the

(06:09):
training staff for just helping me with my every day.
Like it was just amazing in going there and work
with them, like Alyssa, like John, like it rad everybody,
liked everybody. You know, it just was just fun, a
fun environment because you know, I had to be out
for the year, but I mean, they didn't make it
seem like it was bad, Like they worked with me
and I just had a lot of fun just being
with them.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
It's really uplifting the answer. I mean to hear you
put a positive spin on that double whammy. It was tough.
Was there a moment where you were like, this can't
be happening again. I was so close, not once but twice.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Maybe like when it first happened, when I when they
first told me it was a fracture, but then you know,
and then I honestly, I'm not too many people know
about this, But the next day my truck gets stolen.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
So the world was just after the second injury.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, after the second injury and break my foot and
then the next day I go outside to go to
the doctor's appointment and I don't have a truck. Come
on the glasses on the ground, and and I was
you know, it was just a tough It was tough,
but you know we got through it, man, we got
through it for sure.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
And did you get the truck back?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I got it back, but it wasn't insane. It was
they They took it to Mexico and they ruined it.
So yeah, it's totally replaced. Yeah, all right, feel good
about what you have now? Yeah, absolutely all right.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I'm glad that everything negative happens to you has a
positive ending.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
So let's keep it going that way.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Let's go back to your beginnings. I have Elizabethtown, North Carolina.
Is that accurate as a whole town? About an hour
from Wilmington? When I looked it up. What was it
like to grow up there?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Man? It was? It was cool, peaceful, calm. Everybody knows everybody.
It's like a family town. And I mean we have
a one street Broad Street. Go there and get you know,
shopping Walmart and you know, be cool.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
And you're a twin. Absolutely we gotta talk some twins.
If you're Laurel, he's gotta be forhar real for real, Okay,
So rhyming twins, How are you similar? How are you different?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
How are we similar? I want to say we're more
different than anything. Man, He just like I might like something,
he he he knows how I like stuff, and he
does stuff he like. He he likes his own way.
We're both I would say, stubborn in a way. You know.
We we got our way of doing things, like he
wants to his way and I do it my way.
And we can't agree on certain things like that, but

(08:15):
we love each other, like we talk to each other
every day, and I mean, like, that's my best friend
for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Okay, what's you have to these days?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
He works, He's he lives in Charlotte, North Carolina right now,
so he's uh working over there. But he was, like
I always tell I just told the guys to just
I'm like, man, he was better than me in every
single thing, like everything growing up, so I always looked
up to him.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
And you were high school teammates. He was the half back,
you were the fullback and defensive lineman. You put up
some numbers. What'd your offensive stats look like?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Shure? I think my senior year I probably reasd for
like five hundred yards, probably like fold touch down maybe. Uh,
you know, it's a couple of receiving yards here and
that solid for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
But you're mostly paving the way for him. Yeah, okay,
I like that. How about we formulate an offensive personnel
package all right, made up solely of rams defenders, So
if you want an offensive line, you can put him there.
But mostly I want to know who's playing quarterback, who's
in the backfield, what weapons are you utilizing him? From
your defensive depth chart to play offense?

Speaker 2 (09:17):
All right? For sure, we're gonna put We're gonna put
a guard. We're gonna put Pool at guard so he
can pull on stuff. Kobe turning smart, he need to
be at center. Okay, I like that. Man Fisk is
going to be our fullback because he's super fast, good feet,
like I don't know if he can catch, probably can't catch.
But then we got Tyler Davis at the other guard

(09:42):
tackle ty Helmington for sure, athletic big. And then you know,
I'll play right tackle. It's cool.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Oh, I thought you gonna put yourself at tailback.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Tail back. I'm gonna play right tackle. And then let's
see what we got we got run get running.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Back, r get running back. You're playing two back set here.
It sounds like, run him back in there.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Man. You know what, I like running back, I'm gonna
put I'm gonna put Kobe Durant in my running back
like that. I probably didn't think that, but I'm gonna
put Kobe back there because he's fast, like I feel like,
and he can move. So we're going Kobe Durant fullback.
Quarterback is gonna be probably Camp crew because I've just
seen it somewhere. He said he played quarterback. So little
Cam croll right there, and then Cam Kischen's receiver, and

(10:24):
we need verse tight end, oh for sure, tight end.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Smart.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
I think we got an all star line up.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I mean I kind of like that. There's a few
I want to follow up on.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
All right.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
First of all, Fisk, it didn't count in New Orleans,
but you saw his his moves to on the road
last year, so I feel like he gotta respect that
as the first man through. But he's also gonna blow
somebody right out of there in the front of you,
said Durant.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Durant.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Coberant Smart. So the land Shark, I like that. Two
backs that versus gonna be filthy. It's gonna be short yardage,
red area stuff.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
And he' talking jumps to him, So I like that.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
How about what he did on that goal line. I
know we already talked about that, but it takes on
a poler and the lead blocker and still make that play.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Man. You gotta love it, man. You see stuff like that,
you got to sell out to you know, get that stop.
You gotta love it, man, You gotta love verse for sure.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Good calling Kurl playing quarterback. I think it was a
social video. We saw it at Sofi Stadium as well,
and he's throwing balls in the net. I think he
won that contest, So I think I think he's.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Your arm for sure. For sure.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
What else in your backstory? You were selected in the
fifth round by the Titans in twenty twenty. Did you
take an extra pleasure in beating Tennessee and Nashville?

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Was it a revenge game?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I wouldn't say revenge game, but it was sweet to
live in the you know, win in Nashville for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
What did it feel like to be released? Is that
the first time in your football career that anybody has
ever said we're good?

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yeah? You know it was. It was just a tough situation,
Like because I love you, know, I love Braves and
I love the team and stuff, and we were just
going through a lot of injuries at the time, and
then you know, I just had to had to hit
the waiver wire and then I got blessed at Less,
called my agent and I've been here every since, no kidding.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
You made your NFL debut against the Jacks. Coincidentally, this
week's opponents in London. Have you played abroad? I know,
not with the Rams, but never have you been abroad? Okay,
very cool? All right, to a little life experience. What's
this week going to be like? Staying out on the
road away from la practicing, away from the facility.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
You know, I feel like it's gonna be fun. You know,
we're we're going to be with the guys all week,
so you know, team chemistry, you know, again just being
around the guys, being around the fellas and locking into
you know, because we know we're here for a job.
We got a job there doing. You know, we're going
to continue to keep rolling.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
So I started to say, is there a value in
like a second training camp, but really it's a third
You got MAUI got lmu in a real training camp, right,
And then this little kind of mid season earlier.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
I felt like that. Earlier. I was like, man, I
feel like training camp. Like, so you're right about that.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Do you think there's some value to that, that that
camaraderie really does pay dividends on Sundays? All right? What
about your packing? How do you feel like you assess
your packing? Being away for eight or nine days? You
have everything you need, some essentials and the last minute runs.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
I think I got everything. I mean, but you know,
it's always something you're missing, and you don't know you're
missing until you need it. So I'm good right.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Now, tell me about it. My bag went to Dallas
when I came here, so what Yeah, I've been living
off hotel toiletries. Ready to go home.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
No, it's all good.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I'm sorry, absolutely, Gene. I left my whole bag on
the plane, like we left, came to the hotel, and
I'm like, yo, my bag is on the plane. So
they had to run that down.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
So you got a lot of good people looking out
for you. Making mistake like that, Let or make that
on a charter than a commercial.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Then it's over.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
I know it's too early in the week to talk
Jack specifically, but just big picture with where you are
in the season, knowing the buy is next. How big
is the difference potentially from five and two with an
extra week to rest versus four and three.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Man, you know that boy, week is just it'll be
so much sweeter, like you know, if we can just
do what we need to do. But either way, like
you know, our goal, our goal is to win, so
you know that's our goal. So that's what we that's
what we hear from man, That's what we're gonna.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Try to do, all right, looking forward to seeing you there.
I hope it's not nearly as long before your next sack.
Right right, let's bridge that divide you and Q and
his next pick.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Make me the monkeys off my back.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Now, I mean, it's a stormy day here in Baltimore.
Once it rains, it pours.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Come on, come on with it. They come and bunch itself.
