Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, how did uh an off season not having to
do rehab work all the time feel for you?
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I mean, I don't know if it felt like any
particular type of way. It was just work, you know,
I mean it was just different type of work.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
So I've time we talked to you said you played
you had last year? Kind of want a flat tire? Uh,
you feel like it's uh played again?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Hey, what are the differences?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Obviously, new offense, there's so much goes into it.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
I know it's early, but what's some of the differences
You've noticed that this new offense is opposed to it
flat it before?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Uh, it's entirely new, so pretty much everything. What's been
like so.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Our getting to know coach Ben? And then, uh, how
how does he differ because of the flying coaches.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
That you've had would have? Uh? I mean, I think
the first thing that sticks out is experience obviously. I
mean he's been everywhere coaching a lot of people, so
merely that's the main thing. You know, It's just a
wealth of knowledge, So I'm looking forward to learning from
him more.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I the the outside zone stuff, I'm sure you've done
it before.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
It sounds like there's more of an emphasis on it.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Now, I do you like that?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
And how's that going? I mean, I don't have a choice,
but yeah, it's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
You know, you put a lot of time into training.
I didn't train with any of the other guys on
the line. And and what are your initial impressions of
Christian Ains and Anthony Bradford play next team? Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, trained with U Satawa and it's specifically in the
weight room in the off season, and Christian and a
beer growing there. I mean they're young, obviously, but they're growing,
picking it up and they're doing really well. So it's exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
What made you want to start the business.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Amount of this year because I like to lift weights?
I mean nothing really other than that, you know, just
kind of a passion. So it's a good question. I
don't know. I guess it just kind of came about naturally.
I mean I didn't always used to love it, but
you know, when I got to college, I really started
to like it.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
So you're entering the final year of your deal.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
H have you are your representative talked about maybe getting
something to Devil before and season making the deal?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I mean I don't really know too much about how
that process works. I'm just trying to, you know, learn
as much as I can in the offense so I
can be you know, crystal clear on it and confident
in it. Going into the season this year.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Gray had told us that you guys have worked out
together when you're process this summer and getting no impact
then and seen him coming him that was kind.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
You're really possible now. Uh. I think he's got all
the potential to be a really good player. I mean
from what I'd noticed. I mean, I didn't work out
with him too too much. He was just at the
same agency, so he was only there for a couple
of weeks. But he just seemed like a guy who
I mean, he didn't say too much, just was trying
to put his head down and work as much as possible.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
What are you, Sam Darnold kind of what's your first
impression of him?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Been working with him and how he can answer how
to look a lot?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Well, my first impression was in twenty seventeen when he
was at USC and we beat him in Pullman. Uh.
But I'm Sam's a bright guy obviously coming off a
really good year, great quarterback. I'm looking forward to seeing
what he can do and how he's gonna lead you.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Got on fine to leave this game the healthy estab
you say that peminality to find what do you have
to do.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Just downhill, running off the ball, establishing the run? I mean,
I know he had a lot of criticism for that.
So moving into this year, we're looking to really get
after it in the run game, specifically to bring a.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Full uh fullback as a full to point back into
this this offense.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
What do you think that that can do for you
guys in that in that.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Areas and building the run knee and our offense.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Kind of features them. I mean, I think it when
you bring a fullback in, it's kind of like establishes
that the run game is a cornerstone to your offense,
not just kind of an optional thing, you know. I
mean fullbacks are primarily blocking back, so looking forward to
see what they can do in this offense as well.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Would you say you're a hundred percent hoping out the
knee and everything.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I don't know if anybody's ever really a hundred percent healthy,
So I mean I'm playing you know that's that's a
good sign.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I can't really you know what you impression of the
new offensive line coaches, you know, Ben and Dennison.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
All those guys say that again, what are you?
Speaker 3 (04:05):
What your pressure is? The new offensive line coaches, Ben
and Dennison.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
All those guys. Uh, I mean, like I said, they're
super smart, super I mean, obviously I have more experience
than me, so I'd be dumb not to listen to them.
But I you know, I'm I'm really looking forward to,
you know, continuing to learn from them about like how
I can continue to improve and get better.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
With the relative health you had this offseason, how far
ahead are you now that you normal? I'd say that again,
but your relative healthy off season? How far ahead are
you right now at this stage as opposed to like
last year?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Probably like night and day? Yeah, no, I mean it
helps when you're not in a brace and you can
actually walk without crutches. So I mean, and you guys
have seen I mean I post on social media me
lifting and stuff like that. It sends everybody into a frenzy,
which I think is kind of funny. But I'm doing
good work, so I'm excited about it.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Are are you heavier, lighter or anything than you were
last year?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
I'm three twenty five. I saw that too. You know
everybody thought it was like two, I'm three twenty five,
rest assuredly, I'm.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
A good Are there things about this offense, whether it's
plus shotgun or running the ball, they.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Get kind of take some pressure off you, guys, make
much easier.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
On your offense more. Uh, not really? And when I
say not really, I just mean cause that I mean,
I don't know if the pressure's ever really offer you
as an offensive lineman, cause you're, you know, the first
line of really attack. So no no pressure, I guess.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I mean in terms of, like in past protection, they
make at f.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Easier on the guys.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
I guess it depends on how you look at it.
I mean, anytime you're not in the one on one,
it's probably gonna be easier. But that's every offense, you know,
and some people put tackles on islands more and so
I mean it just depends on the look.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
There's so many rollouts, how does that change protection for you?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Say that again, having so many rollouts in this offensive
quarterback on the move, how does that change protection for you?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I guess just the technique changes. I mean, it's not
it's not anything super expert, like any extra challenge. It
just you know, you coach the technique, do the technique.
So you kind of refer to the criticism you guys
get on the offensive line. Is that I mean, is that?
Is that like a chip on your shoulder kind of
thing if you guys at the end of this year
at all or not? Really, the only criticism I really
am concerned about is the stuff that's in this building. So,
(06:16):
I mean, everybody has an opinion. I have an opinion
on a lot of things. That doesn't mean it matters,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
So how could do you think this offensive line could
be this year?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Oh? Like, however good we want to be, you know,
I mean, we have the right coaching, the right tools. Uh,
the identity has definitely changed from last year to this year.
So I mean it's just as it's on us as
far as we want to take it.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
How is the identity change?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I mean, we're just more so I'm thinking our with
an I we're with when you get a new staff in,
like I mean, everybody wants to run the ball, you know,
but when it kind of you come in and it's
kind of a non negotiable, like we're running the ball,
you know what I mean? We put a fullback in
the backfield. Like we're you know, like we're changing it up,
we're doing things differently. You know. It's it's like an
(07:03):
old school mentality with a new school principal sort of thing.
So yeah, definitely just looking forward to getting after that.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Do you think that might be the biggest difference for
you guys with the run game coming the last couple
of years, is maybe just general.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Commitment to it rather than well, it's something you just
have some balance on all of that.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I would just say, or I guess I'll put it
like this, like we're trying to be elite at very
few things. But those few things are you know, what
the offense is gonna be based around, and that's the
run game. You know, we're gonna be elite at the
run game. Like that's the philosophy with it. So, I mean,
it's not some you know, hodgepodge of just a bunch
(07:44):
of different stuff we're just throwing in, you know what
I mean, We're gonna be elite at the basics and
make sure that they work so we could do it
against anybody.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
I mean, obviously receivers, running backs, you know, quarterbacks got
a lot of pub a lot of flashy plays. What's
a play that you loved an offense the blinman, a
play that offensive lineman can make that stands out that
you love to make.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Scoring for one, Well, if I did score, that would
be pretty cool, but that'll never happen. Uh, Like pancake blocks,
I mean, that's that's pretty cool. When you pass off
a twist in pass game, that's pretty cool. When and
when everybody on the O line kind of executes perfectly,
that's pretty awesome, just because it's like a well oiled
machine kind of all coming together and working. And that's
(08:26):
what the game's all about, you know. It's it's when
you can see that it's kind of like an art form.
You know, you look at it and you're like, nah,
this is art. This is a good, good thing beyond
the physical part. Is how tough as the last couple of.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Years did.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Uh? You just mean like mentally or obviously I wanted
to play, but you know, there's an unfortunately, and fortunately
there's things in life you can't really control. So it's
just up to you on kind of how you want
to respond. You know, I took precautions to not let
things get to my head. It's part of the reason
why I don't have a Twitter, because I don't need
to deal with all that crap. But yeah, I mean
(09:01):
I just it's like, Okay, I got I had surgery,
so now we're gonna get after the rehab and we're
just gonna get back to getting right, you know. I mean,
things take a while to heal, depending on what you injure.
So it was tough. But you know, I'm still walking.
It's not amputated or anything, you know, So anything else
ask thanks, sure, yeah, thanks, thanks, thank you us
