Speaker 1 (00:00):
A long process to get from the offense to week one,
But just how do you feel like things are coming
along and stuff?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
I think I think it's going great. You know, coaches
giving us a lot of reps, giving a lot of
our young guys reps, which is awesome, a lot of
a lot of meeting time. Guys are squeezing every outside
of every day, working their tail off force.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
In general, what are you seeing out of your quarterbacks
right now?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Seeing a lot of competition, See three guys that can play,
see three athletic guys. See guys working their tail off,
getting coached by Jenoko, who's you know, putting in overtime hours,
getting them late night videos and and just really impressed
by the way he coaches and those guys lucky to
have him work with Samos the past and he does
have for the year and he did.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
How do you see him kind of grow up with him?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
You're with him to stop? Yeah, just do you see
the tape. The tape taels at all. He grew a lot.
He took an opportunity there and ran with it. And
he's been doing a great job for us here. He's
he's studying, he's he's teaching, the young guys helping me
get the system taught, as well as guys like Cooper Cup.
But uh, really impressed with Sam thus far, impressed with
(01:03):
Drew and pressed with Jail. That's that's three really good players.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
How similar is what you're doing right now to with
Donald with San Francisco, you.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Know, it's it's a good starting point. We're we're putting
our own system together and not giving away any trade secrets.
But you know, right now just putting in some base
offense and and having those guys go out next to
you every day, what are you mind about.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Seeing that person the way he moves, where he throws.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
A Spiders team.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Get a chance to see him.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Plus, number one thing that stands out is a guy
as a worker.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
You got.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
You see him in there atour thirty in the morning
on the field going through his play and nobody asks
him to do that, but he's out there putting an
extra time. I've seen him grow a lot from Rocky
Minie Campton now. So I've been impressed with.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
With the kid the offensive line. I know it's hard
to jalize whether there's no path and stuff like that,
but just kind of what are you seeing out of
those guys with how great.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
So they do that's part. Yeah, that's a It's a
young group, which is fun because you get to mold
those guys and to coach Benton and coach j O
and Rick Dennis Center spend a lot of time with
those guys and they're responding. Gray's been doing a fine job.
We have a lot of competition up front offensive line,
so guys are moving around and because of that, there's
just a lot of there's a there's a high spirit
(02:13):
every day of guys trying to win a job. What
is it?
Speaker 1 (02:16):
A way about the way Coach Becker goes about.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
The job in hand with composition, the Uye Kim kind
of lives. They appreciate. I think he's a supreme teacher.
Holds his guys accountable. But the man can teach and
he stands up in front of our offense every day
and leads the room, leads the run game and works
alongside Rick, who's the same way a great teacher. Kennedy
Paul Moo mac Brown's a phenomenal coach, tight ends Coach Frismon.
(02:42):
Jackson's coaching the run game like like any offensive line
coach would right now too so I'm just we're really
blessed to have a whole staff of really talented coaches.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Lead of that run game back.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
What are your first impressions now that you've got to
see this whole array of running backs on the field
and that the different skills.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Sets those guys had.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, it's it's early. You'll see the pads come on
in the fall and then you'll then we'll see who
our best running backs are. You know, this time of year,
we're out there practicing in underwear, so they're their maiding
skill set doesn't get to shine through. But I've been
really pleased with, uh, the detail they're putting in, and
they have a phenomenal coach and Kennedy and he's gonna
stay on them.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Coming back to where does the composition stand right now?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Off right guard, that right guard with five practices in
it's wide open, brother, and.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
With the old line, what are you looking for right now?
Like you say, their early power movement, getting the concepts.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
What really are y'all trying to do right now?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Early?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, we're really trying to be be great teachers and
install a basic system, you know, trying to put in
a zone run game and and put in a new language.
You know, we're trying to get guys all speaking the
same language and using precise words precisely, and you know,
learning a new cadence. I mean every day is the
first day, these first five installs, you know, So we're
(03:58):
just doing a lot of teaching and we're correcting the film.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Obviously seeing super Cup from Afar from all the working
t stamps.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Math off player uh stands most upon him is very
similar to what I said about Jalen. It's just his
work ethic. He's he's in there early, he's staying late,
asking a lot of great questions, and then he's he
just leads leads by example right now. You just he's
in there early with the quarterbacks and it's hard to
get him out of the building. He wants to be
(04:25):
great and then all his all his tangibles and intangibles
are rubbing off on the younger guys.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
What do you evaluate about yourself in your own performance
and growth as as what's a coordinator?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah? How much how much we win? That's what it
all comes down to. So that's where we all got
to all have to be better.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
How much do you see like play calling versus you know,
play design versus you know, preparation, execution practice. You know,
which of those do you feel like are areas you
know you want to see.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
You know growth? Yeah, well, I think if you're not
trying to get better than the rest of the leagus
catching up to everything that on film last year, you know,
those are the things that they're practicing when they go
to prepare for us. So we have to make sure
that we're not we're not predictable, and but this time
of year, we're not worried about that. We're just worried
about having great fundamentals, you know, teaching our system, holding
(05:14):
our guys accountable. That's what's most important because when the
season starts and you start putting in new plays, that's
what's kind of help you win games, is great fundamentals
and effort.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
New Orleans last year your offense was amongst the league leaders,
like getting passive plays outside the pocket. Obviously not all
of that is by design, but what is what's your philosophy.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
On that, what you play off with? I think just
moving the launch point is a part of part of
what we do when we have the opportunity to do it,
to extend the down longer, and push the ball down
the field. So I think if we just if we're
always staying in between the two guards, it just makes
life a lot harder for the for the signal caller,
so trying to help him out.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
You had that about this Stantley in New Orleans for
att while latter. What did you see out of him there?
Speaker 2 (05:55):
And what can you kind of bring here or what
kind Yeah, I just saw a really intelligent guy that
could play all the spots. Andy made plays, you know,
came to us in the middle of the season, learned,
learned a new system, and just really impressed with his
intellect and the type of teammate that he was. And
he's picked up right where he left off.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
How important is it to pay a second level of
defense and conflict and how much are you trying to
accomplish that with.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
With your offense? Yeah, I think if you don't show
him that, you're gonna push ball down the field and
go start squatting on you. So we gotta we gotta
prove that we can do that, and you got to
you gotta earn that right too by running the ball
so that they will step up beyond.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
The work ethic much dand at you about how Yalen plays.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Just you know, he's a he's a heck of an athlete,
number one. But you know, the guy's putting a lot
of time in learning a brand new, brand new way
of communicating an offense and uh, just his ability to
to make plays with his feet right now. He's got
excellent arm strength, great athleticism, and he's in the process
of of having his mind catch up to his feet.
And there's a lot of the whole offense is doing
(06:56):
that learning a new system. So but he's he's doing
a heck of the about it thus far.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Obviously, fans get excited about the idea of Jaylen Milroe
coming in and special packages, and obviously it's way early
for all that stuff we talk about, like the decision
factors and when you take a starting quarterback off the
field and put in a specialty package versus stick with
your starter.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, they gotta go earn in practice. So when they
show it, then that's when it's time. Thanks Lett, Thank
you for thanks
