Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, great to see everybody. We had a great camp
before you know questions, Just want to give a couple
of shout outs.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Our equipment staff, absolute rock stars.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
When we had about seventy something guys out here and
they got the Jersey's ready helmets, all the equipment, pretty
massive undertaking on their part and you know, pulled it
off seamlessly. So we had a good looking crew out
there looking like Seahawks and pro football players, which is
pretty cool. And then you know, just i'll say, the
the personnel department, the coaches, all the work that goes

(00:33):
into finding the right guys to bring out here for
this camp. I mean you go all the way down
the line, draft picks, undrafted free agents, tryout guys. We
had a heck of a crew out there, some high
powered stuff going on. Coaching wise, just really excited about
the guys that are gonna be joining our team and
the alignment we have and all the work that goes
into it, because it's a lot of work and just

(00:54):
down the line, I mean you go position group by
position group.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
But we're really excited about the guys that were here.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
And just want to thank those guys for the work
that they've done, and and it's not easy to get
on the same page about some of these things. You know,
we feel strongly about a lot of these players, and
you know that's what kind of that's the secret sauce
about being able to scrimmage things out and and have
alignment when it comes to who's going to join our
football team. So I just really appreciate all the work
that went into it. So but it was a great camp,

(01:21):
and I really excited about you know, the draft picks,
undrafted guys. We've got a lot of work to do,
but uh, this is this is a really important like
first step in uh, these guys understanding how we operate here,
how we practice you know, the initial schemes that they're
going to be learning, and uh, you know, in that manner,
I think was really successful. So I'm excited to get
him back next week.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
You had a chance to watch Jalen at the Senior Bowl,
and he's told us how.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
He's been working with his mechanics stuff with his quarterback
coach these for first two days here.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
How have you seen any maybe you've seen a progression
in what he looks like in that regard compared.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
To what you saw a mobile well, one thing that
you just you don't have a feel for Jalen what
you know watching tape or even watching him in practice,
is just like the spirit he has from play to play.
He's got great energy, great competitive energy about trying to
get it right. Uh, great command of the huddle, really
takes pride in the operation, and then all these all
these fundamental things that we're going to be building on

(02:14):
from the ground up.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
He's just got a great attitude about it.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
The coaches are doing a great job coaching them every
play and it goes for all our guys, but him especially.
So you know, if you have that attitude, especially at
the quarterback position, everybody everybody else tends to fall in line.
And uh, and that in that regard, it was really
really fun to be around.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
What'd you see up front from both seeing coach Pack
work with these guys from the first couple of times
and if you got three draft picks up there, so
seeing them kind of work.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, it's a great, great group overall.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
I'm really excited about our draft picks. Hard to tell
I give it a fair evaluation right now, but you
can see see the skill set, see the movement, see
the things we've seen on tape. Uh see the attitude,
you know, work, the finish and all the stuff. One
that becomes time. But really good first step with those guys.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
But it's fun. It's fun to see it come to life.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
What do you like philosophically about having the proach from
full back and kind of having.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
That part of your offense. It's a great question. It's
a good softball.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I just think, you know, we want to be a
physical unit and there's not a lot of true fullbacks
in the league right now, and hopefully they're making a comeback,
but we've got a couple on our rostery right now
that I'm really excited about. And you know, it allows
you to get into two back sets and you know,
you can break the formation, you can try to dictate
some terms of you know, to the defense and regulate

(03:35):
them certain ways, and some of the schemes that you're
able to do with you know, two backs are definitely
different than a one back operation. So I think it
diversifies you, diversifies you to a certain extent, and also
also lets you play like a level of physicality that
that we're hunting up.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Would you talk to the defense a couple of times
well done. What did you see from dam.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, I think you know right now we're looking for,
like the intent, you know, the communication coming out of
the huddle, putting it all together, all three levels. I mean,
these guys are coming from almost all different areas, different
experienced levels, hear in a different language, so be able
to put it together here in day two and play
with great technique and great eyes and communication. And we're

(04:18):
not we're not exactly splitting atoms with the schematics that
we're we're asking them to do right now, but but
showed progress and and uh, it was just exciting to
see it come together there towards the end.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
How do you evaluate a position like nose tackle of
two days of non kind of practices.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, there's some in the eleven on eleven stuff, but
it's it's tough for the tempos that we're asking the
guys to operate at. But uh, a lot of it
is gonna come from the individual work, seeing them move,
how they do the drills, taking it to the field,
like how they you know, we're hand placement, and how
they getting out of their stance, how they're playing the blocks. Physicality.
It's a little tough, right, now. But you know that's

(04:56):
the stuff that we're looking at.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Different this year compared to here.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Uh well, you know, we we we tossed around having
some different ideas about how to operate camp or you know,
there's different ways to go about rookie camp. You can
slow it down, you can make it more of an
individual thing if you're trying to you know, avoid injuries,
all sorts of different ways to go about it. We
just we had a lot of faith in the coaches
and what we were trying, how how we're trying to operate.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
And at the end of the day, we felt like,
you know.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Trying to get better at football by doing football was
the way to go. So I thought our rookie camp
last year was we did a great job as well.
I thought we got what we needed out of it,
and so we bolt off of That is.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
A clarify flowed down for you though from last year,
I would imagine.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Everything was kind of mooving and you could fill in
the blank. Everything slows down. Uh again. You know when
you look at when you're used to looking at things
through a certain lens and all of a sudden, now
you're looking at it through a different lens. The picture
speeds up a little bit. So now you're staying through
the new lens. And I think also through our staff.

(06:04):
We have you know, we have alignment and what we're
looking for, and guys have expectations about what's important to
us as a team and what we're trying to get
to get accomplished. So, uh, and we're not perfect behind it.
I mean, there's there's notes that we're taking and we're
gonna go kind of debrief here and watch the tape
and learn from it and move on. So we're on
our a game when the vet show up on Monday.
So I mean it's just a constant reevaluation process and

(06:26):
trying to get better.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
You clarify, there's a conversation after the draft about Jalen
and comparing him to Taysom Hill, and you said, you know,
he's just a quarterback. He's a quarter of your chainment.
Does that mean you know you that would preclude you
guys from using him in special packages for specific scenarios
red zone short yardage.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, I love to clarify it.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Look, I think what I was trying to say at
the time was we respect the heck out of Taysom Hill.
We've gone against him several times, and he's a gigantic
pain in the butt and a great player in his
own regard. But I think you have to go into
these things. These are these are independent players with their
own skill sets and own abilities, and we drafted Jalen to.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Play exclusively quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
I think what makes Taysom such a great weapon is
that the guy can you have to account for him
as a tight end and a full back body when
he's not playing quarterback, where we're not going to be
using Jalen in that matter. So when he's in there,
he's gonna be playing quarterback for us. But I think
the way that we want to operate with Jalen is
is if and when he earns opportunities to be on

(07:28):
the field, we'll do the things that he does really well,
same as when Sam's taking snaps for us. We're building
around his skill set and the things that he does.
And if you're not doing that as an organization of
the football team, I think you're doing it the wrong way.
So something with Drew, but it's going to start with
the quarterback and then kind of everything falls in place

(07:48):
from there.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
It just seems like a great athlete to see how
the field ones and kind of like seeing him from
the person at days in fronty out of here and
kind and does to see other person.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, he did a great job.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Great to have him in Person's a great attitude, great
spirit about them.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Uh, practice is hard.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Uh does a great job of taking what we're seems
like we're doing. Does a great job of taking what
we're trying to teach him, you know, fundamentally and then
taking that to his position.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
So also a great start.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Jalen said that you mentioned that you had interest in
doing VR virtual reality training to work up regression and stuff.
How do you how do you see that helping a
young quarterback, especially when the veterans get here, maybe the
reps are going to be more limited for him on
the practice field.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Uh, yeah, sure.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
We Uh we're kind of in the exploratory mode right
now on on on that and how that's going to
come to life. So we're in the beginning stages of that,
you know project. But that's the intent right now, is
to is to kind of go down that road and
see how it can help all of our quarterbacks and
even other positions too, I mean running back protections, punp protection,
maybe kind of kind of the there is no you know,

(08:56):
end in sight with the possibility.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
So that's exciting.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
But for Jalen and other quarterbacks specifically, you're only you're
only gonna get so many full speed reps out there.
How do you how do you change tempos? How do
you do things like that where you can be creative
where you can get these really great cheap reps and
you can stack those on top of each other, so
when he does get his opportunities in practice.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
You can make the most of them.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
And yeah, I mean that's it's it seems like it's
all positive all the way around.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah, Nick Eiman, worry just kind of initial impression to
handle with us over it.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah, I mean you see the movement skills, you see
all the things you saw on tape. Different language for him,
but he's got great intent. I think he wants to
be great, which is a fun characteristic to work with
and great start, great start, But h like it will
be the first to tell you, like all of our
guys have you see it and you're like, oh, this
is awesome, but hey, now.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
We gotta we gotta go, we gotta detail it up,
we gotta get our angles, right.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
I mean, there's a lot of there's a lot of
fundamentals that will be working on when he comes back,
and it's gonna be it.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
It's gonna be fun to work with them. When do
you expect to see Tory Horton taking some football and
kind of what's the ramp up process for him? Yeah,
timetable right now.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
I mean I wouldn't say it's anything major, but when
he comes back, you know, he should be close to
you know, full go. But we'll see how that, you know,
kind of comes about. But I think we're just being
precautious right now.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
What kind of role do you expect for him? If
he's an X flanket, Like where in the receiver room
is he going to be?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Well, he's good, go on it. It is the first part.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
And I'm excited about his punt return ability as well
possible gunner and then in the receiver room. I mean,
the guy's got legitimate speed, so be able to take
the top off.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
He's able to do that.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
But I think he's a you know, I think in
this system, you got to be able to run all
the routes too, So I think he has that ability
on those some of the intermediate stuff, and I'll be
interesting to see who.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Kind of comes out of the pack on the catch
and run you.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Know, premter screen game, and uh, you know he's right
in the mix on that competition as well.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Why did you want to see fun Lee and Jamie
Sheriff out here this week?

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Well, we had because of the rules, we had an
opportunity to get him out and just felt like these
were going to be great reps for them to take
advantage of. Uh, you know, Jamie, we're looking at moving
his position to off the ball backer and Sam just
for some more position flexibility. So it's something that he
hasn't really had a lot of reps doing, so it
felt like it was a great opportunity for him to
you know, see those more more live and in color

(11:15):
before U before we got to OTAs and and and
Mason and plumbly excuse me, he uh uh just same same,
just me more reps at receiver, you know, just kind
of be part of it. And and uh, I felt
like it was a great.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Opportunity for him.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Sounds like you're bringing Hankins back because I've kind of
feel pretty big boys play there.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Uh yeah, I mean this guy's he's a heck of
a player. We're excited to get him back.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
I wouldn't say it was a major void because we
have guys that can play in the a gap, but
uh yeah, I mean I think I think when you
watched the tape last year, he played some.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Pretty dang good football for us. So excited to get
back him and d Low teaming up again.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
Sorry, with that makeup of your offensive staff, how beneficial
is it to have guys like under plays you know,
Rick Dennison and John benn guys that he like you
really doesn't really trust the sting.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
To work with.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Yeah, it's it's really important, especially just in this system.
I've been on teams before that have run a version
of this system, specifically Clint's dad with a lot with
some of the same guys like Rico is on that staff.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
And the connection and the detail and.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Just like the shared understanding about what's expected with the
timing and the angles and all that type of stuff.
You know, it was able to get get off the ground,
and so you can feel it out there, you can
feel it in the rooms. The guys have an understandable
what what's expected on any given play and all the concepts.
So I'm the one playing catch up right now. Fortunately speaking,

(12:46):
you talked.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
About special projects that you know, you and the coaches
are taking on this off season. Are those now come
to fruition and you you go into this the time
with the players talk to you be stiff.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Yeah, I think well, part of its self scout about
what you felt like you did well, Uh, giving the
guys the feedback now when they're when they're back in,
But you're also you don't want to take away from Hey,
we're going to a new chapter.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
We got to rebuild it.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Some of it's in the systems that we're building and
how we incorporate rules, things of that nature. And then
really just an understanding where the league's going and how
you you know, how you tailor, how you build stuff
and how you're teaching it. And then when the schedule
comes out, you know, we'll look at, you know, looking
towards how we want to get ready for the season.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Any of the undrafted guys stand out team?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
A lot of the guys did. I mean, I'll tell
you what, it's a great group overall.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
I mean we can go down line on them by
lining on them, but I think I think we did
a great job this year, identifying skill sets that we
wanted and uh, without going you.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Know, person by person, but we're really excited about those
guys we.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
Like about what I'll give you one Jackson, what we
like it bout him.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
I'm gonna leave that under wraps right now as we go,
you know, through the off season, h

Speaker 4 (14:01):
On that dope anything else,
