Speaker 1 (00:03):
Your tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Good afternoon, Steelers Nation, and welcome to the Drive on
the Steelers Audio Network. Question Uler Matt Williamson with you
here for the next two hours on a Wednesday, as
we have got plenty to get to. We will go
around campus like we always do. We'll have a little
Best of the West. We'll start to talk a little
bit about these Cincinnati Bengals. But Matt, we do have
some I think some pertinent news here to get us

(00:51):
started today. Yeah, and that is that the Steelers have
made some roster moves, one with a familiar name, one
with a new name. And let's start with the new
name here. The Steelers have added a familiar name, but
a new name, cornerback Assante Samuel Junior to the practice squad. Okay,

(01:16):
all right now. He was, of course, originally drafted by
the LA Chargers second round of the twenty twenty one
NFL drafts. Of the NFL draft, part of me appeared
in just four games last year after injuries. Had to
have that spinal fusion surgery, which ironically enough, he actually
had here in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Might not be ironic. Maybe that's why he's here now,
all right, area.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I think certainly, Matt, he is a guy that has
had pedigree and has had success in this league. Six
interceptions in his four seasons, thirty seven passes, defense, has
started in forty seven NFL games, ninety six tackles. Like
I mentioned, the four interceptions, three TFLs, a forced fumble

(01:58):
of course, son of all Pro cornerback of Sante Samuel Matt.
This was something that had been discussed, I think lightly
for a couple of weeks, Like people knew that he
was working his way back and try to get back
before some of this injury stuff. He was a big
name free agent, right and now finally the Steelers get

(02:18):
it done. He gets it done, his medical status, all
those things aligning, and a Sante Samuel Junior now on
the Steelers practice squad.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, so you kind of mentioned it, like right before
free agency hit this summer, you know you'll find top
fifty free agents on the market. He's on all those lists.
So he's been unemployed since then. Obviously for this reason.
He only appeared in four games last year, as you mentioned,
but before that he played over a thousand snaps every
other year. I mean, he was like in eleven hundred.

(02:47):
He's full time player. You know, this is not a
recurring thing, but it's scary. I mean, I hate talking
about medical stuff because I know I don't know that,
but we are not doctors. Disc and neck fusion or
whatever doesn't sound great.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
It's not like I have a hamstring tag, right, I
know it's better. You broke a finger, right, right? Pretty
significant stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, it's a major surgery, and you know, but the
doctors obviously cleared him. These doctors know more about it
than any other team in the league. I can't imagine
it's a coincidence that he ended up here because he
toured like five or six teams before signing with the Steelers,
and from what I understand is actually one of the
Steelers team doctors, like it's a Steeler employee did the

(03:28):
surgery in Pitsburg or read that last night. Yeah yeah,
I can't quote that as one hundred cent true, but
I think so, so what are they getting as a player.
All you can comment on is what he was pre injury,
you know. I mean he's smaller, He's like one hundred
and eighty pounds maybe one eighty five five tennish something
like that. You know. So he's not Joey Porter or

(03:51):
Trice or you know, these really long pterodactyl type dudes,
but he's been really productive. A knock on him is
he's not the most physical guy, especially with tackling. He's smaller,
he's not a he's not Jalen Ramsey as a tackler,
as a corner.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
And Joe Hayden cut from that corner.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, I think that's a decent way of looking at it. Yeah,
much more of a zone corner than man. But he's
really good at it, you know, Like I said, the
negatives first, there's the back neck injury stuff. There's you know,
lack of great size, not a great tackler, but he
has phenomenal coverage abilities. He's very fluid, he flips his

(04:31):
hips quick, he reads and reacts on his own very
very well. And it also implies to me, well two things.
I mean, in a way, I think they're fortunate to
have somebody that's been this good in the league out
there for free. Totally. If they were traded for an
equal player, to trade deadline for a fourth round pick,
I've been like, I get it.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You know right, you know, and he's not thirty one
years old.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Twenty five, and maybe he's even in the long term plans.
I assume it's a one year deal, but I haven't
seen the terms of the track. I doubt he got
like a big bonus or a two year deal, but
it could be a part of the long term plan.
I was a little worried about corner depth. I mean,
I really don't want Ramsey to have to we talked
about yesterday. With thorn Hill being gone. It just seemed

(05:14):
like that's you're only free now. There wasn't another shoot.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Another corner and you have to move Ramsey back.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, I don't want that. I think they're happy with
him as free and that this helps, you know, keep
that at Bay. You know, your your free safety until
further notice or maybe for the rest of your life.
And that's great. So who knows. I'm excited to talk
to Chris later, you know, when what they think the
plan is with him, when he may see the field

(05:40):
all those good things. But I'll take a chance on
that freebee in middle of November all day long. I mean,
that's a home run. Absolutely. If they were signed him
in June, I'll be like totally get you know, all right.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent At this point, that's about
as exciting as you can get. Yeah, within the scope
of where we are in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Timeline, right the trade deadline's gone. It's not the same
as trading for Jaylen Watt or Crystal Lave, you know, right.
But I mean, like you.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Mentioned, if the Steelers would have traded a fourth round
draft pick for a twenty five year old starter, proven
corner at the deadline, we all gone, We've all gone cool.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah right right, they need it, right, yeah, And so
it wouldn't shock me if he is a starter here
in two weeks.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
I was going to say, the timeline is probably you
want to give him a week to get up to
speed and practice. And because it's again, it's not that
you're stealing him from somebody else's practice squad, and he's
been with a team and went through training camp and
all that stuff. He's kind of coming in fresh, yeah,
off like legitimately off the streets, you know, and so
I'm sure you want to give him some time to
get acclimated before.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Just I would think, yeah, we could be.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Wrong, but you know, you know, if you go with Echos,
you go with Porter Junior, you go with Pierre for
a week here.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
And Pierre played Well, we've talked about that.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I think he's earned that opportunity.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah, absolutely, I think you're more comfortable with him than
you were in the past. And again, I hate playing doctor,
but I would think, I mean, he hasn't put pads
on or a helmet in quite some time. I mean,
can he at least hit a sled and go do
all the practice stuff of the week as vigorously as
you can't replicate game? Sure, you know, but I would

(07:14):
want him to do some kind of contact before again
I'm a doctor, before you throw him out there and
play sixty snaps where you gotta tackle Derrick Henry, right,
you know right.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yes, absolutely, we were on the same page.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
There from a surgeon. I'm like, do something before you
tackle Dereck Henry, you know, right.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Totally totally do something before you are in a live
NFL game where the bullets are flying. And yeah, so again,
pretty substantial name, pretty big name, particularly to be available
at this point in the NFL season timeline.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Yeah, as a freebie, and.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
I think there's rightfully some excitement about that. It is
a low risk, high reward maneuver for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Absolutely, and they weren't alone. I mean, I think that
gives you more confidence that there were many gonna say several,
but I want the many teams that were very interested
in the service. Who knows the ones he didn't visit,
but he visited four or five. Now every one of
them might have been like, oh, medical reject, medical reject, I.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Don't know sure, or you're gonna be buried on the
practice squad for a couple of weeks. Yeah, whereas the
Steelers were like, hey, we got injuries, we got opportunity,
we need we.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Got opportunity and we need you. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
I think it could be a combination of both of
those things. But certainly an exciting piece of news. I
think that came across the timeline last night and will
definitely be something to keep an eye on. And like
you mentioned, we'll talk about this more with our buddy
Chris Hallick here and.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
I'm gonna ask Chris this question, but it has crossed
my mind in the last twenty four hours too. We
know that the team wanted to play more press mayn
now that was the goalback that We're gonna blitz a lot.
We're gonna play press man. We got the corners, and
I was all for it. I loved that vision, you know.
And there's something I suggested even in the off season.
But now it might be Porter's early are only man coverage, dude,
We're gonna probably play a lot of zones. That doesn't

(08:55):
mean we won't blitz or will blitz or whatever, but
maybe we are going to see a heavier zone going forward,
which is fine. Fine, yea, It's not like man's better
than zone yeah right.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Red paint painted bart and red.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, like okay, and I I think,
particularly in this game, I want to put a lot
of people in coverage. I mean, if it's zone, fine,
I don't have I know, I don't have the man
cover corners to deal with Chase and Nagans. I know
that I.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
May not many people do no right, right, but but
but the Steelers certainly do not as well. We just
saw that a couple of weeks ago. And yeah, who
knows if he's going to be involved this weekend against uh,
Chase and Higgins.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
I'm guessing no.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
But I'm guessing no too. But I would also say,
crazier things have happened. Yeah. Yeah, we'll continue to watch
this space. We'll ask Chris Hallick about that in the
next hour of the show.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Well, obviously rolled out, I mean, he's not been rolled
out yet.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
We're just but there's a good chance as well too.
As you mentioned yesterday and now, concussion protocol is usually
more of a two week proposition in this league than
than ever before, and so plenty to keep an eye on.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
And you don't even have to put him on the
ACT roster, you can, you can put him up off
the practice squad for a while in the meantime, right, exactly, right,
So like they did with Sermon and those guys, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
I like it. It's something to maybe put a little
bit of pep in your step here midweek in November. Yeah,
certainly something will be keeping an eye on. Talk to
Chris Hallick about see if anything in the practice reports
kind of indicates how this might move. But he was
added to the practice squad. Important to note because Matt
moving up from reserve IR to the act of fifty

(10:30):
three man roster as well. Today is will hard quarterback extraordinary? Yeah,
number one in everybody's programs. He has been activated to
the fifty three man roster. So just real quick before
we get into Will Hard with him going to the
active roster with a Sante Samuel Junior going to the
practice squad, everybody knows there has to be related moves.

(10:54):
Tray Sermon has been waived and Derek Forrest has been
released from the practice squad.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
So somebody can grab Sermon, but they would have to
put them on their active roster. Won't happen, Probably not,
I'm sure. Clear waivers and go to the practice.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Squad, I think again, barring something surprising, that would be.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
The yeh the moves here and Forrest is without a job.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
You won defensive back end the door and a Sante
Samuel Junior. Yea one in the one in through the
outdoor led zeppelin Derek Forrest on the way out. So
those are kind of the moves to make room for
a Sante Samuel Junior to the practice squad. Will Howard
elevated to the fifty three man of course, he returned

(11:36):
to practice on October twenty second, so it was right
towards the end of that twenty one day window. Peeter
get off the pot, you know, be added to the act.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Needed them, but they don't want to lose them, and
they want to keep them here for the rest of
the year, and hopefully he never sees a snap unless
for some reason Week eighteen is a meaningless game that
I would start him, not Rudolph, you know, but I
mean it's a great point. Who knows. I don't much
to add on Howard philosophically. The team wants three. I mean,
some teams won four. They always won three. It's worked

(12:06):
out great in the past. That's fine. I would assume
he'll be in the mix in training camp, in mini camp,
but until then he's running scout team good.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
One hundred percent. I think you're right. There's not a
ton to add to Will Howard because we've had that
conversation I think many times. Yeah, on these airwaves and
on others. But this was kind of the moment that
we were waiting for. Is he going to spend the
rest of the year on IR As you mentioned, there
is just a possibility they wanted to activate that window,
let him practice for three weeks.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Yeah, I thought maybe, you know, but this.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Kind of the eleventh hour here in a way, puts
that to rest. He will be on the active roster.
I imagine he'll be the third emergency quarterback on game day, right,
And like you said, we'll wait and see how the
end of the season plays out to see if there
is potentially an opportunity to see Will Howard in stadium
before we get back to of course training camp in
preseason in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
And who knows, he could be in the mix year.
I'm as that he will be in the.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Now if there was a first round quarterback or a
second round quarterback or a third round quarterback in that
mix as well too. That remains to be seen. Obviously,
what happens with Aaron Rodgers. Is there any real chance
that he comes back in twenty twenty six, that'll play
a huge role. That a lot of moving parts, a
lot of balls in the air. But we will continue
to keep an eye on all of the moving and

(13:24):
shaking as we roll along here. But that is kind
of your Steelers news of the day. Some some pertinent
stuff there on both sides of the football, and as
it relates to the active roster and the fifty three
man roster, matt I mentioned a Sante Samuel junior, of course,
the son of a Sante Samuel, who was a great
defensive back in his own right, eleven years in the NFL,

(13:45):
two times Super Bowl champion. With that, I thought we'd
have some fun today for best of the West. Okay,
top ten father son duos in NFL history.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Baby, Okay, yeah, I might have to cheat in Google
it just so we'll miss it. Do you do any
of that or so?

Speaker 2 (14:02):
What I did was what I did was I, off
the top of my head, regurgitated probably eight to eleven
different duos that came to mind. Okay, I've told you
before a little bit of a secret, but I matured
and grew out of it. That was a bit of
a Denver Broncos fan growing up, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Loved John Elway, love Terrell Davis, Steve Atwater, Bill Romanowski,

(14:24):
all those guys. Also Ed McCaffrey. So like one of
the first ones I jotted down was Ed McCaffrey and Christian.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
McCaffrey, you know, and that's Worthy.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Craig and Cam Hayward obviously, the Mannings, Arch and Peyton
and Eli.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
So there were the easiest.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Like I said, probably somewhere eight nine, eleven, twelve something
like that that I kind of just regurgitated down onto
a list. I was like, I'll put these in order later,
just as many as I could come up with. And
then I looked online. Ooh, forgot about that. Oh, forgot
about that, and started to kind of formulate the top ten.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
I got a quick question for you, yea, So one
of the greatest brothers to for NHL is Mario and
Claude Lemieux of course ninety nine point nine percent of
its sixty six yes. And the other one's brother, of course.
So if dad was terrible but son was l way

(15:14):
or would.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I'm glad you brought that up.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
I say I would. I would lean towards I want
them both to be good.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
That's what I did. Yeah, okay, the ones that made
the list are It wasn't just dad had a cup
of coffee.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Son's great league or.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Dad was an all star. You know Tony Dorset and
his son who played like three.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Years in the league. I couldn't come up with that's
a Tony.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Dorset is not on the list because his son had
a cup of coffee in the NFL, and that right right,
it needed to be. Both of them have the credentials
of really good NFL careers.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Yeah, good, good. I don't want Claude Lemieu. We will have.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
We will have some uh, we will have some fun conversation.
On the other side, best father son duo is in
NFL history, and there's some Steeler ties on there, as
you can imagine. We'll do all that and more as
we roll along on a Wednesday, West. Yeeler, Matt Williamson,
It's the Drive on Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers
Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Your tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Radio before we jump into this highly anticipated Best of
the West here, Matt, First of all, I better pull
up my notes as well too, before I forget Elaine Lemieux.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
I know I screwed up. Yeah, Claude is just.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
The other Lemieu who played for the Avalanche was pretty.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Good during the same time.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
A Yeah, sixty six is younger brother. I'm sure we
have some people jumping in the tweets and quick to
quick to correct us there.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I would have been correcting you guys too, correcting me.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
I should know better, right, But there is a fun topic. Yeah,
let's go a breast Best of the West again. We've
done a couple of different things with this this year.
Most of the time it is football related, but we
also snuck in like Halloween candy in there a few
days before Halloween. Last week was my top ten favorite
stadiums that I've been to in honor of Sofi Stadium.

(17:16):
This week in honor of a Sante Samuel Junior, Top
ten family combinations, father son combinations and NFL history, I
have some honorable mentions for you too.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Just this. There's a lot more than I'm thinking, though,
a lot more.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
I think this would be easy. In fact, Matt, I
think this is really hard. Like in my mind, when
I was scrambling down the names, I was like, you
know what, maybe as a joke, I'll throw in like
Ed and Sean Hockey. You know, yeah, they didn't play.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Like a big name. I was like, the probably won't
be that.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
I was like, there probably won't be that many. Like
I might need to have an extra one or two
in there. I'll throw in like Ed or Sean Hockey.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
In total, I wrote down twenty three different combinations.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
I bet, I bet had had a case.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
And I want to be very clear with this because
when we do these type of things, It's funny how
much participation you typically get. Oh yeah, how could you
do this person? How could you forget that person?

Speaker 3 (18:07):
And I'm sure everyone's wheels are spending like minr right
now too. I'm like, I'm coming up with a lot
as I'm thinking about it a little.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
I spent some time on this, but I didn't spend
hours on this, and you shouldn't. I spent like twenty
thirty minutes on this this morning while I was having
my breakfast in my coffee, So I hope I didn't
forget anybody. If I've got someone number seven on the
list and you think they should be number two or three, okay,
that's but I'm just trying to have some fun with
this and stimulate some some conversations. Okay, So do you

(18:34):
want me to first run through the honorable mentions?

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Yeah? I like to. We always like to count down
thirty two to one.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Let's run through the honorable mentions, just to kind of
set the stage for how good the top ten is
going to be. Honorable mentions the pass.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yeah, I say, I'm hoping you don't put Porter on
there just because he was a Steeler. I almost didn't
say that, but I wanted to say it, and I'm like,
I definitely come with ten more.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
The Pez's in the honorable mention category.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
R right, hopefully hopefully Sun needs to do.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
More, Sun, Well, we'll we'll, We'll take off here and
do a little bit more. Dad was obviously a pro
bowler and an All Pro and a Super Bowl champion.
That tells you kind of how tight this list.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Is trending the right direction for the Porters though.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yes, yeah, yeah, yes, Bobby and Marlon Humphrey.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Oh, I did not come up with that one.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Pat and Pat certain the second Terrence and DK metcalf
for another Pittsburgh tie. Here, Bum and Wade Phillips to
go to the coach and go to the coaching ranks
for a minute, I'll also go to the coach. I
also go to the coaching rankings with with Mike and.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Kyle Shanay Shanahan and right, Yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
As I mentioned, I jokingly had Ed and Sean Hockey
on here, Zeus and Orlando Brown. That was still honorable mentions.
That was a tough one to leave off. Joe and
Dan Cleco a lot of accolades between those two. Joe
was obviously a much better player but Dan won three
Super Bowls in his career.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Quick Dan Cleco's story. He was at Temple when we
were at Pick. Yes, he was, and we used to
play against like the you when they would have first
round detach all over the place. They'd all rather play
against the guys with the You than Klecca. He was
this big and he was he was unbelievable football player.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
I mean he should be I think even like Florida
with fullback and stuff like he.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Played like six or seven years in the NFL, won
three Super Bowl rings.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Yeah, I mean he was a demon demon.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
I think I've told you this before. But I worked
with him in Philadelphia, so he was part of the
Eagles radio network when I was there for three years.
So he was on our pregame and our post game
show for the Eagles broadcast. So I got to know
him decently well in those years. He used to always
tell me the story about when he was at Temple.
In two thousand and three, they came to Morgantown and
one at Mountaineer Field Rich Rodriguez his first year as

(20:38):
WV head coach, in his first ten uere.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
I assume Temple was a dog they were, and.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
They beat us like seventeen to three in a really low,
ugly scoring game. I was there, you know, like twelve
years old or whatever, so he used to like and
he was. He had like six sacks in that game.
Was an absolute menace.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
It was like that every time he played him era right.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
And I would always laugh anytime quarterback play would come
up and would get debated on the stations, he would
be like, Oh, I'm just the guy who spent seven
years playing with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. What do
I know? He won two Super Bowls with the Patriots
and then one with the Colts. Like that was his
NFL career. Pretty bad, pretty stinking good. I had Rob

(21:17):
Ryan with Rex and Buddy as well too.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah, it's a huge one.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
More coaching rankings. George and Jamal Adams both Pro bowlers,
both really good careers.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Dad, and a lot of the humph Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah, Oliver Luck and Andrew Luck.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Worth bringing up. I mean that Sons carries a lot
more weight than d but absolutely all. He was a
good He was Warren Moon's backup. I mean he was
a good backup. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Yeah. Bobby Humphrey four years with the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
He was a pro bowler, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
In nineteen ninety. Yeah, So that, Matt is just the
honorable mentions that I had to bump out of the
top ten to kind of give you an idea of
how good this is.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Now. I'm not giving you a hard time, but I'm
going to create your list every week.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
This is that's the fun of it.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
I'm gonna have a hard time not having the Shannahans
and the coaching trees in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
So that was kind of another like, but how much
you wait that? How much do you wait that? Right?

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Because of course the Shanahans I would even went down
that road. I mean, you're just opening up a can
of worms and more angles for people to come out.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
I like to make people think, you know, this is
my this is my professor Yuler moment. You know you
can just sit here and make the people think number
ten on my list. Massi and Lofa Totupu.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Wow. Yeah, they would have been an honorable mention for me.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
It would have been an honorable mention for you.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Yeah, you ain't got love for the Tatupu's dad played
fourteen years in the NFL. Was a Pro Bowler.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
It was an awesome special teamer.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Rushed for eighteen touchdowns in his career, three Pro Bowls
for lofa over five hundred and fifty tackles, eight and
a half sacks, ten interceptions. Both Dad and Son Pro bowlers.
That and get it, that ain't enough to get the
Williamson going.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
Not Concer, especially the names you just gave me before that.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Okay, fine, Gene and Geno Atkins.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Oh that's Gino's dad, Yes it is Huh. Gino is great.
Was great. Yes, one of the best Bengals of all.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Time, one of the one of the best Bengals of
all time. Eight time Pro Bowl or, two time All Pro.
And Dad had twenty five interceptions in nearly five hundred tackles,
spending a decade with the Saints and the Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah, okay, a long, strong career for.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Dad, Steve and Cam Jordan.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Oh good one.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Steve Jordan nearly five hundred receptions over sixty three hundred
receiving yards, twenty eight touchdowns, and a thirteen year career
with the Minnesota Vikings, six Pro Bowls and a member
of the Vikings Ring of Honor.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Wow. Of course it was like the Cam.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Jordan one hundred and fifteen and a half sacks and
eight Pro Bowls.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Pretty good.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
That's a pretty good one.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Huh Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
That was one of the ones that surprised me that
I didn't think of Steve. I never but right away
was like, oh.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Yeah, like no one's playing fantasy back then, But Steve
Jordan when I was like ten or twelve, was like, oh,
Like I would collect football cards and I would put
like all the tight ends together, and I'd always have
the best one in front, and you know, that's my dad.
Who's better. He's like, I am not playing who's better anymore,
you know, but he was always like the fourth best
tight end in the league, you know, at that at
that stage, you know, right, it's.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
A pretty good That's a pretty good one. That's one
that I'd had not had in my in my head
that I was like, you know what dad and Dad
and I mean between the pair of them, they've got
like a dozen Pro Bowl selections, yeah, and over one
hundred sacks and six thousand receiving yards and sons.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Kind of like Geno Atkins, like he won't go the
Hall of Fame, but he'll be an all time, great saint,
all time great Bengal right right.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Right, Casey Hampton, Yeah, yeah, yeah exactly, hines Ward type
like Cam.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
I would put a little ahead of those guys, yes,
but in the you know these d linemen of this hero.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
And along that vein just one spot ahead of them,
Craig Ironhead Hayward and Cam Hayward check in at number seven.
Dad was good, oh, buddy, eleven years in the NFL
over forty three hundred rushing yards, made it to a
Pro Bowl, and then his son on his multi first
team All Pro and has a chance to go to
campon one day.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
I saw Dad when I was real young at why
can't it's the famous fry place in Oakland.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Oh the oh yeah, there's no longer standing.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
No longer standing. And he was sitting at a booth
with this many fries in front of him, this many
and his butt was as big as the screen. It
felt like to me, it's like a ten year old.
I was like, can you imagine tackling that dude?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
This is the biggest man I think I've ever seen. Yes,
all right, now it gets hard because I mean there's
some study. These last ones have been like nine eight
and seven are really these are father and son were
both Pro bowlers And.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Now we're talking like Hall of famers, probably.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
Clay Matthews Junior and Clay Matthews.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
The Matthews families awesome, Yes, yes they are. I wish
I should know better who belongs to Bruce and who
belongs to Clay.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Jake belongs to Bruce Okay, right, like the Falcons offensive lineman,
was that Jake.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Matthews, that's the left tackle?

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Now, yes, belongs to Bruce Okay, and then Clay belongs
to Clay.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
So the linebacker belongs to the linebacker. Then that's probably
makes the most sense. And it would have been my
guest if I was connecting the Dodds.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
But father Clay matt over fifteen hundreds.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Both groups have a case.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Yes, and I meant to. Actually, the other Matthews were
on my honorable Mentions list.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
I didn't read through the Hall of Famer And Jake's
had a really good career and the Matthews never miss
a game.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Clay one of the best linebackers in NFL history, nineteen seasons.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
He's been a Hall of Fame almost guy for a
million years.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah, yeah, and we're talking about the older one here,
not long hair, Clay Matthews of the Packers over fifteen
hundred tackles, nineteen seasons, three time first Team All Pro,
also a bunch of Pro Bowls. And then of course
Clay the third who we know, all Pro, eleven years
in the NFL, over five hundred tackles, six time Pro bowler,

(27:03):
of course unfortunately won that Super Bowl forty five against
the Steelers. And then I mean, if you want to
throw Casey in there as well too, he played four
years in the NFL for Philadelphia as linebacker as well too,
But I was more so like, sure, no disrespect to Connor,
but I'm going with Cams is the father son, right, right, right?
But man, those guys are really good, and they check

(27:23):
in at number six for me.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Matthews family in general, pretty strong.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Pretty good jeans. There one that really surprised me. But
when you look at the accomplishments on paper, I had
to put him at number five. Mark Senior and Mark.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Ingram huh, Okay Senior is a good player.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Senior was, I mean he ten NFL seasons, Super Bowl champion,
twenty six touchdown catches. And then you know his son,
Heisman Trophy winner, College Football National champions champion, rushed for
more than eight thousand yards in the NFL, sixty five touchdowns,
three time Pro Bowler, both side never come of production.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Yeah, yeah, they were.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
A hard one to kind of to kind of pin down.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
The world slought them.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
But yeah, but these top four are really good. So
I had them slotted at number five. I could easily
be argued to have a couple of those people we
just mentioned ahead of them.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Yeah, I'd have a couple ahead of the Ingram.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
I might have a couple ahead of them now that
I'm thinking out loud, but I've got them at number five,
number four. This one outstanding, Howie Long with Chris. You
can loop in both christ and Kyle here.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
And I would I think you get extra credit for
I think you're right. Definitely right.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Was awesome, Howie legendary, three time All Pro Super Bowl Champion,
Pro Football Hall of Fame, thirteen years with the Raiders,
Chris eleven years in the NFL Super Bowl champion in
back to back seasons with New England and Philadelphia. Kyle
three straight Pro Bowls with the Bears. That's yeah, that's
pretty pretty good.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
I mean, how he was I'm sure a first ballot
Hall of Famer.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Yes, I think would have to be. You would have
to be number three. Ed and Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
Do you want to talk.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
About an offensive dynamic duo? Sure, Ed McCaffrey. For those
who might be too young, if you're about my age
or younger to remember, thirteen seasons in the NFL, started
with the Giants, but mostly with John Elway and the Broncos.
Three time Super Bowl champion, he was an All Pro
fifty five touchdowns in his career, and of course Christian
maybe the best running back of his generation. Tim and

(29:34):
Henry multiple time, multiple time First Team All.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Pro, right, phenomenal receiver.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Phenomenal receiver and running back, one of the more electric
players of his generation.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
And his brothers on the Commanders right now too. His
brother is on the Commanders.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
He's not eight, No, not compared to those two.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
No, he's Connor Hayward at the moment.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Number two, number one were really difficult to decide between.
But name Cashier obviously plays into this as well.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Two.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
But at number two, I have Jackie and Matthew Slater, Okay,
matt Seventeen Pro Bowl selections between the two.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Of them, I'm sure now one's a special teamer.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
That's what kind of pushed him over the top for me.
But Jackie Hall of Famer, twenty twenty seasons in the league,
seven time Pro bowler, his number is retired. His son
one of the great special teamers in NFL history. Five
time first Team All Pro, ten time Pro bowler, and
of course won three Super Bowls with Tom Brady in

(30:32):
the New England Patriots. Awesome right, In terms of just
accolades on a sheet of paper, it's hard to top
those two is his father and son.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
The only thing, the only negative is you know he's
a special teamer. It's like the Hall of Fame conversation,
five time.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
All the pros a special teamer is he was the
best one. And the three Super Bowl rings as well too.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
That's a good point too.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
I could I could easily argue for them to be
bumped down the list, But when you combine the rings,
the All Pros, the Pro Bowls of those two, it's
jump off the page.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Dad, he's probably better than people realize.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
I mean, he's won a better offensive line in NFL history.
And then Matt, I'm sure you can figure out who's
at the top of the list, but it's Archie Peyton,
and you throw in Eli for a bonus as well too.
I know Archie was a perennial loser with New Orleans,
but he was also thereat player. He was also a
great player. He's a multi time Pro bowler despite being

(31:24):
on a team that never had a winning record, he
made the Pro Bowl multiple times. And then of course
Peyton Manning five NFL MVP's most in league history, fourteen
Pro Bowls, two time Super Bowl champion, ELI, two time
Super Bowl champion, four time Pro Bowler. Like the first
family of football and their quarterbacks and their quarterbacks. Yeah, yeah,
and maybe he's looking a little better these last month

(31:46):
or so. Maybe arch Man throw his name into this,
into this conversation. Although he's not, he's nephews, but still,
I was.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Going to bring that up because people don't remember, like
when I was taught to be a football fan by
like my uncle, my dad, etc. They're like this poor
Manning dude with the Saints. I mean, if he was
with any other team, he'd be getting accolade. I mean
they were wearing bags on their heads back then. They
were the Aints. I mean they were the worst organization ever.
I mean they were like the Steelers before Chuck Nole
got there. At that point, he was like the only

(32:15):
good player.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
He never had a winning record as the start.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
I don't doubt it. I don't doubt it.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
And it was still a multiple Pro bowler.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
But that's where the athleticism comes from. Dad. Grandpa is
a super athlete. Cooper was a wide out athlete and.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
They say he might have been better than Peyton and Eli.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
So Arch gets it from Grandpa. I mean, I'm sure
there's some females that contributed to the Bloodlights too, but yeah, right,
right right.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Have you ever watched I think it was like an
ESPN thirty for thirty A while ago was called the
Book of Manning. So good.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
I think, so yeah, so good.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
If you're a football junkie, it's it's worth your time.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Yeah, my top two. Everyone knows the brothers. I just
wanted to give Dad some credit there too.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
Top one, number one, I'm very confident in. Yeah, top
couple after that, like two, three, and four and per confident.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
And it's tough though, and he was a handful that
have to be in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
I I I hope people enjoyed this. I hope people
have opinions on this. Get at us on Twitter, get
at us in the comments.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Oh, I'm sure, but I had I.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Had fun spending like a half an hour sipping my
coffee putting this together and thinking about it and well late,
how many had looking up? How many Pro Bowls did
this guy go to? Well he went the sixth? Oh,
this guy, you know, especially some of the like the
I knew Jackie Slater was good, I didn't know how
good he was, you know, like some of some of
those type of like that. I knew Steve Jordan was good,
I didn't know how good he was, you know.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Some of the better players of the you know, late seventies,
early eighties, like you.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
I didn't know Jim I didn't know George Adams was
Jamal Adams dad. Figure figured that one out here. I
I knew those. I knew DK Metcalf's dad played in
the NFL because I remembered somebody making the reference to
that when the Steelers traded for him. But I didn't
know that his dad was really good in the NFL
as well, too. They were on the Honorable Mention list.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
He was offensive lineman. Yes, his nicknames port Chop, port chop.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
You gotta be port, you gotta be pretty good.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Yeah, yeah, he was like three and forty pound garden
right right, nickname?

Speaker 2 (34:02):
So Matt, how did I do pretty good?

Speaker 3 (34:03):
You like that?

Speaker 2 (34:04):
You like that as a curve ball today for the
best of the West.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
And then there's like Joe Alt's dad played in the league.
You know, like he's too young.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
But there's a couple that can be on the way.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Yeah that are kind of like the Porter situation where
Daddy's Yeah, maybe Samuel.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Sante Samuel Junior had hadn't had his injury set backs
and was continuing along the trajectory that he had. They
might be on this list or in the honorable mentions.
If Marvin Harrison, if Marvin Harrison Junior would kind of
live up to.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
His he doesn't even have to be great for if
he's just good, he'll be on this He'll be on
that list. I mean, yeah, he could be real high
on this list. Just have a eight year career, go
to two Pro Bowls, right, and you're fighting for one
of the top spot.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Right and don't look now, but I think Chris Henry
Junior could be a future Hall of fame type wide receiver.
His dad was all right in the pros. That could
be you know, that could be another one that makes
it to the list if Chris Henry Junior is is
outstanding in dynamic as he looks. But yeah, like the Certains,
the Humphreyes, some of these were really fun to look into. Yeah,

(35:05):
and then I'm like bum and Wade Phillips, Mike and
Kyle Shanahan had to throw in the Hockeyleys in there
for for a joke as well too that I'll.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Come up with more as I'm just kicking it around tomorrow.
How do we not put this?

Speaker 2 (35:16):
If you think of any tonight or after the show
or anything.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Yeah, when you're.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
When you're on the Bourbon at eleven forty night, shoot
me a text. Maybe one day too, maybe one of
our kids, Matt will get into this, uh, this radio
hosting thing, and we'll do a top We'll do a
best of the Yeah, we'll do a best of the West.
The hill grows.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
I'm trying to think out there, that's a good one
we're doing.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Oh, that's skipped the generation because Jack, of course. But
still that's a good one. That's a pretty good one.
A lot of fun putting that list together, and hopefully
you all enjoyed some some flashbacks and some trips down
memory memory lane with some of those fathers and and
some of their sons. Best of the West top NFL
parent son duos. When we returned on the other side,

(36:00):
I want to kind of stick with the Michael.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
And his dad were good. Dad was running back. A
great running back, but good running back.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
They should have probably been mentioned amongst my honorable mentions.
That's a good one. We're going to keep throwing throwing
these out throughout the show. I've got a kind of
piggybacking off of this. We every Wednesday we do a
brief conversation at the end of the hour, Matt where
we talk about which player we would steal from the
other team if we could. I want to uh.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
I think we started it with the Bengals. We did
a couple. Yeah, has changed.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
I don't want when you do the same team a
second time around, it's the same conversation. I've got an
interesting twist that I want to put it on put
on for you when we returned on the other side.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
I'll tell you one thing, throw in different now than then.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Too, okay, So let's talk about both of those things
when we return. I love it. We'll do all that
more as we roll along West Shuler, Matt Williamson. It
is the Drive on Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers
Audio Network, your.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven home
of the Black and Goal, Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Back on the Drive here. Closing down the first hour
of the program, we will catch up with Chris Halleck
and hour number two talk a little bit more about Asante,
Samuel Junior, Will Howard, everything moving and shaking down there
on the south side. We will go around campus and
hour number two as well for what might be the beefiest,
most excited around campus segment of the year so far.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Gives me a lot of quarterbacks scuttle but with the college,
the whole.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Bunch, Yeah, yeah, a whole bunch.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
And will that who's coming in, who's going out? I
mean that kind of stuff too, Art explain better, you know.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
Made a led Zeppelin reference to the top of the hour.
Now at the bottom of the hour, it's time for
a the clash reference. Should I stay or should I go?

Speaker 3 (38:07):
That's exactly what's going on. Many of these.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
Quarterbacks asking themselves that, and so we will deep dive
into that all in hour number two. But before we
get to any and all of that, Matt, I wanted
to put a little twist on our weekly pick a
player conversation since it's the second time that we were
having this about the Bengals. But first, you want to
give me your new thoughts.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
Yeah, but I don't even know I brought up last time,
or if I did, it was in passing DJ. Turner's
really good and he's cheap and good one. I mean,
they just signed Samuel but could use the second corner
on a rookie contract that runs a four to two
flat and considering Hendrickson's season has been rocky, to be kind,

(38:49):
I mean, he's just not in and all that. Turner
is like the only bright spot on the defense. Yes,
I mean he's a good player.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
Yeah, it's a good way to put it. Hendrickson's been
in and out of the lineup. The first round pick
Schmerz Stewart hasn't really.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Flashed much, shown up much, right right right?

Speaker 2 (39:04):
I do think he The obvious answer is Jamar Chase.
I Jamar Chase. You'll pay him whatever.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
Who cares and that is the answer.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
But but that's it. That's a that's a good kind
of follow up. But I think that's fair.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Those are usually kind of who I'm looking for.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Especially the young, cheap and position a need that's kind
of like the trifecta that you're looking.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
For or in positions are hard to find.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Yes, Yes, and maybe Chase checks two of those three boxes.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
He's just not cheap.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
He's just not cheap, but understandably so. I think you'd
pay for that production.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Here's the twist that I want to put on it
for you as you are, and I mean this in
the best way possible, with all compliments. You are a
resident football dorc Yeah. Yeah, I want to ask you
you could take a player from the Cincinnati Bengals organization
and put him on the Steelers, any Cincinnati player in
franchise history. I think I know where you're gonna go.

(39:57):
I think he plays offensive line, and I think his
first name is Anthony.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
There's only two choices, it's him or Chase. Uh.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
You would Chase over Ocho Cinco, Yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Or over Carl Pickens was a good player.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
I would think man Ocho Cinco with DK Metcalf combined.
Ocho Cinco is like a George Pickens, but more consistent
and like he'd be the downfield contested catch back shoulder guy.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
But chase but chases right chasing the Hall of Fame Johnson, isn't.
I mean, I didn't put all of it the staff
pack because there's a ton, but like all the stuff
chases on pace to do career wise is Randy Moss stuff,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
But Muno's maybe the best offensive lineman ever.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Yeah. Like I bet if you if Tounch of Wolf
were sitting here, because they he's just a smidge older
than them, but not much. I mean, they're contemporaries, might
say Munyo, I know they they they'd probably say Webby,
but they'd say is the best offensive tackle that ever lived? Probably? Yes, Yeah,
I mean, and.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
And I think you could make a fair argument that
he's the best offensive tackle that ever.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Yeah. Now I'm a little partial to the Walter Joneses
and Ogden's and pace. I mean, there's been some great
ones since then, don't get me wrong, because I studied
them more and I was smarter when I watched them
than when I was six. You know what, I mean,
and people just told me he was great. But that's
the conversation between one of those two. I guess you
take one, Yoes.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
I like how you threw Chasing there because I was
considering it. But you're right, I mean he might. He
already is a top five player in the history that franchise.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
I mean, we're not allowed to take quarterbacks. I would
take Burrow just to use quarterback.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
We've kind of yeah, no quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
Kenny Anderson and Palmer. I mean, I think they're they're
not allowed. You know, Boomer SI's all right, they haven't
that bad quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
No, what about Chris Collinsworth. Chris Collinsworth on this team?
Now here's a guy. Mike tom Winna walk into film
every week and Chris collins Worth will be sitting off
to the side, going, now here's a guy.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
So I guess this is my last chance to do
this since they're not going to play the Bengals again
this year. But Dale and I kind of had a
little thing going where it was like five years years
ago the Bengals put out their top fifty Bengals list
of all time. Oh gosh, it's terrible, and it's gotten
a lot better like.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
The top five to ten. It's probably not very good.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
John Breach the kicker, was like seven. Yeah, and he's
not even like considered like one of the best kicker
kickers of all time. He was fine. He lasted ten years.
I mean, like Gino Atkins was like three. I mean,
like it's Ojo Sinko's like top five. Oh yeah, yeah.
I mean if now there was like Burrow, Chase Higgins,
some of those guys that are recent weren't quite relevant

(42:30):
yet or were too new, but we had this thing going, like, man,
how many of them would even make the Steelers top fifty,
like probably or four seven maybe? Yeah, Like if he did, Yeah,
if you did a top fifty combining the teams, it
would be at least eighty percent Steelers at least, I
mean at least. Yeah, And we're getting into like, you know,
like Levon Kirkland would be in the top ten for sure.

(42:52):
This might be he might be fortieth on the Steelers
list at.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
Something great at some point in the offseason when we're
like looking for content to fill, Yeah, we might have
to do like a combined top ten a starting lineup
for like around the division and who wins who be two,
and then maybe from there we could expand it to like.

Speaker 3 (43:09):
Other someone recently, and by that I mean in the
last year, someone put together an all AFC or NFC
North team, which is kind of interesting. Yeah, that would be.
It's a little hairy, like should the Oilers there, should
the Jags be? How did the Ravens slash Brown's work?

Speaker 2 (43:28):
How do the Ravens slash Colts work?

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Right?

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Right?

Speaker 3 (43:32):
Right? I think you just do it from the four
teams that are in it.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
Now, modern era, like two thousand and two or two
thousand and three, whenever the NFL last ree did divisions.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
Not even from then on, like Jim Brown would be eligible,
you know, like but the you had to play for
the Browns.

Speaker 2 (43:51):
Right right, Indianapolis.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
I mean, Steelers and Bengals are easy because they never
moved or left the league. So anyone in their history,
anyone that wore black and purple in Baltimore and anyone
that's worn brown color. I like this exercise. Yeah, we'll
put that.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
I'm going to add that to my list of off
season content.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
In fact, like like Lamar or Bradshaw Ben. I mean,
every position is hard. I mean, even if you just
do two teams. It it's hard. Yeah, I mean it's
hard enough to do a Steelers.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
Top one, one one of it, one selection of it
will be very easy. Troy and Ed for safety, Boom done.
No more conversation needed. But there might be some conversation
needed if we actually stopped and thought about.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
It, all right, say, there's probably other good ones, a
really good one when we go in, but like Jim
Brown's gonna be hard to beat. Yeah, you know, like
sorry Franco, Sorry lev Sorry, Derrick Henry, you know, and
some of them. It's also like, well only was there
two years. I'm not gonna have weigh those as much
like Reven you know.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yes or yeah, no absolutely or Derrek Henry is a
good example in that. Yeah, I like that, Matt, Yeah,
I like that.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
We might think of the defense you can just put
together with Steelers and Ravens.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
We might have to expand upon that a little bit.
Oh you're Steelers. You could put together a defensive Steelers
and Ravens that would probably go toe to toe with
the other thirty teams all defense around the NFL. You
gee what I'm saying. Yes, maybe that'll be another fun thing.
We could do a season you're starting Steelers and Ravens
eleven on defense, then the rest of the league, and
who's got the better unit. I mean, it'd probably be

(45:24):
the rest of the league, but it would be close.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
It'd be comparable, though, I mean they'd be able to hang.
So I also if when when we do that of
the four teams, and I bet if this was in Baltimore,
SINCEI or Cleveland, if they were honest with themselves, they'd
do the same thing. Steelers will have still had more
than fifty percent. Yes, I mean they're still going to dominate. Yes,

(45:45):
like fun exercise too, would the Steelers' best twenty two
beat the other three teams combined?

Speaker 2 (45:52):
Write all this down and will remind us June, this
is what we're going when we got nothing to talk
about between Minnie camp and.

Speaker 3 (45:59):
The training, Like those three teams are like that. I
want Munyo's Joe Thomas or Ogden as my two tackles
and the Steelers, I mean, the Steelers will be not
be that good at tackle, you know, but.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
We could do we could do twenty first century Steelers
team versus twentieth century team.

Speaker 3 (46:15):
Yeah, I mean this.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
Sounds like a lot of what we did during COVID.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
But it's a lot right, right right, people remind us
of this stuff right.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
Hour in the books, another hour ago, we'll get into
some of Matt's stats. We'll talk to Chris Hallick, we'll
go around campus, all that good stuff, and hour number two. Dang,
Matt's got my wheel spinning. Oh yeah, we put together
a starting eleven for all thirty two teams and power
rank them. That would take us like a week to do.

Speaker 3 (46:39):
Oh that's a bigger job than that's a pretty big
Like whoever does this?

Speaker 2 (46:43):
Who wouldn't be for like Jacksonville, your all time starting.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
A life, Carolinas that are borderline last note, there's some
lunatic that does this for every draft pick. The best
two hundredth pickoverall. Love it. I mean, I mean some
of them are terrible, but some of them are in cred,
you know, like the top ones are hard.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Yeah, who's the best number one pick overall? I mean
the answer is.

Speaker 3 (47:06):
I mean, so it might be Peyton Manning's hard to beat,
you know, or I mean there's tons.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
I was like, the answer is, and then I was like,
I don't know. There's a lot of good.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Ones, and then there's some like wherever Joe Montana got
picked in the third round. Well Tim, you know, Tom
Brady and the Antonio Brown in the sit. Yah, A
couple of those are easy, but maybe.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
The seventh overall pick of all time. Yeah, it's probably
like four different Hall of famers.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Yeah, but like the two hundred and twenty second might
have like nobody.

Speaker 2 (47:33):
