Speaker 1 (00:03):
Your tunes about drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good evening, Steeler Nation, How we do it? Well, that's
good us too. Our number two were full of nerds
gummy clusters. Yeah, they're a hit. I couldn't do it, Matt.
I was thinking about it, asking Labs about Halloween candy.
But I thought the interview went well. I thought he
was in a pleasant mood, and I just.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
I didn't want to go off track. I think we
kept it perfect with Lab.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Sometimes you just gotta let good things be. But maybe Sunday,
I'll you know what, Sunday, I'm gonna tell them. I'll
confess to them before the pregame show. I'll be like, hey, look,
we were debating if we should ask you about Halloween candy.
How would it have gone if we would have them?
I depend on how he wakes up sun which side
of the bed he wakes up on Sunday morning. But
(01:04):
thanks to Labs for joining us in our number one
reminder here in hour number two. We will get to
some tweets before we get out of here as well.
Just as well, not as well too. Okay, we're working
on it. I did do it once yesterday. I know
TV's got me. He's got me on the straight and arrow. Okay,
all right. The people, Uh, the people continue to laugh
(01:27):
in the in the comments about how I sometimes say
as well too, and how that's redundant. It's like I
work for the Department of Redundancy departments.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Same church, different pew.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Stop it on my tombstone. It's gonna say Wes, same church,
different pew as well too, e'ler. But before any and
all of that happens, hopefully a long time from now,
we have to We have plenty to get to here
in our number two, beginning with Matt as we like
to do on a Thursday. Uh. This is another one
(02:00):
one of those. Everyone who is kind of a football
junkie and familiar with the show, you know, but if
you don't, Thursday injury reports a big kind of key.
It's it's a one day you're really circling and looking for, uh,
the practice participation of both teams in here now for
the Steelers and the Colts. We will start with the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I've heard nothing from the Colts. I guess I used
to pay attention. It's not like it's not out there,
but it's it is.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, there's is not as uh not as lengthy as
the Steelers. Yeah not not some not some not much
ominous there for the Colts. Uh. Not great for the Steelers,
but it's also helped their success.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
They've been very injury free this year, and if you
look at that offense, they even missed hardly anybody part.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Of it, right, right, we talk about the way that
kind of your schedule and your rest luck works out.
Injury luck is certainly a real thing too. We talked
about that for a couple of years. The Steelers had
those two years where what's seventeen and seventeen thirty four
regular season games? They had the same offensive line for
thirty three of the thirty four, and then the following
(03:10):
season they lost Herbiic before the year even started. They
lost Faltanu early on, they lost Daniels in like Week
three or four against Indianapolis. Fraser ended up missing two games.
They got crushed with it last year, So it works like.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Sure, everybody recognizes the Ravens had a really good season
last year regular season they were by far the healthiest
team league too.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
And now it's gone the opposite way and it's.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Because I mean, it always does. But it's hard to
live on that.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
It's really biting him in the backside here this season.
Certainly all right, Matt for these Steelers. Still no Scotty
Miller dealing with that finger injury. He has not practiced
Wednesday or today Thursday, So no Scotty. Scotty doesn't know
Ben Skronick. He is back to it.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Bet Scotty doesn't even dress. I would and if he's questionable,
it hasn't practiced, right, I mean, well, Wilson Calvinist.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Ben Skronick after being limited with a neck issue yesterday,
full practice participant today, good news he really is. And
especially in the absence now of Miles Killerbrow, are you
really going to visit? More important to think absolutely absolutely?
Uh still know Deshaun Elliott practicing. That's not surprising anybody.
I think we're all kind of not.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
On ir yet. Seems like it's going that way.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Speaking of Dean of Doom, I think it is. It is,
unfortunately going that way. Corey Trice, I don't know how
to feel about this. Matt in that twenty one day window.
He was a full participant yesterday, limited participant today. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Sometimes that happens.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Sometimes that does happen.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
If you haven't practiced a long time.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Practice in a long time, let's ease him back in
full day of work today, Like that could have been preplanned, planned.
I just hope it's not a setback.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I think Hallig mentioned it, and I kind of thought
the same thing that I would think next week is.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
His week, I would think, so you want to give
him a full week of practice prep before you, especially
against an offense like this, throw him to the wolves
out there. Kyle Duggar, newest Pittsburgh Steeler now officially official.
We discussed that yesterday. He was a full participant in practice.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Today they walked out in the indoor and as I
was walking out of there, I just, you know, went
walked through the whole deal.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yeah, as suspected. He looked the part.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
He is kind of looks like he's got they got
the dreads. He's a big safe.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Him and Corey Trice both really looked the party.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
It's funny, I asked somebody on the sidelines when Mike
is s dugger here, He's like, yeah, he's the one
that looks like Trice said.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
That looks like an avatar out there.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
He's a little thicker, he's a little you know, heavier,
but he's not quite as long. But yeah, they show up.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Not some great news. Uh. Jabrill Pepper's after uh NO
issue yesterday was limited today with a quad listed as
a WAK, but it limited. He limited. He did something,
as did Zach Frazier, and I think this was probably
planned to he's still dealing with that calf injury. Didn't
practice yesterday, was limited today. That's the same same thing
(05:57):
he did last ya. I gotta think that's part of it,
part of the plan. Cole Holcombe was out today with
an illness. Hopefully that's something that is good to go
by Sunday. Still no practice this week for Isaac Sayamalu.
That's a little concern.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Say that's the one that's kind of I'd like to see.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Him at least limited before before the UH the the
end of the week. Mike Tomlin was clear to say
on Thursday that he's a guy with plenty of snaps,
plenty of reps, plenty of money in the bank, so
he's got a longer leash in terms of not practicing
and still playing than most with his veteran status. But
you'd like to see him at least get out there,
(06:35):
even if in a limited capacity, tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
At Screams game time decision type of thing.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yes, Pat Fryarmth, good news here, Pat fryar moof did
not practice yesterday with a quadricep injury. Uh, he was
a full participant today.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
We're halfway through the year. A lot of these guys
are gonna be held out.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Going to be absolutely absolutely. Cam Heyward and DK Metcalf
got a veteran day today. Nothing nothing serious there. Daniel
a Qualley still has not practic that's not surprising, exactly right.
And the other two twenty one I mentioned Corey Trice,
how he was limited today. The other two guys that
(07:11):
are in their twenty one day window, of course, Will
Howard and Malik Harrison have both been full participants all
week as well.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
So from what I understand, a Walle and Elliott are
probably set to go to IR but they haven't had
to do it yet because they haven't needed to activate someone.
Which makes me think, who would you activate?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
You can read Harrison and Trice, yeah, or Howard, but
that seems like again reading the tea leads yeah, yeah,
inevitable maybe if you.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Know they're not playing and they're going to IR. You're
going to activate somebody. You don't have to do it today.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yes, Yeah, maybe that's one of those not a matter
of if, but just a matter of when.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yeah, I'm kind of starting to lean that way as
we talked.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Through Indianapolis Colts. Matt, Let's see here. Nick Cross missed
Wednesday's practice with a shoulder injury. He was a full
participant today. Wide receiver Josh Downs missed Wenday Wednesday's practice
with a hip injury. He was a full participant today.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
He's been in that line up a little bit lately.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Uh. Matt Gonclaves was a full practice participant today after
missing yesterday's practice.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
You pronounced it wrong, and I pronounced it wrong every time?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Is it Calves? Is it call this? I think? Oh?
Is it? Really?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
It's not. I have the hardest time saying it, but
I've heard it pronounced right, and I never say it right,
and you didn't say it right.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
You know. Aside, well, obviously aside from aside.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
As nice, aside, lucky.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
A lot worse, aside from same church, different pew, and
as well too. Maybe the third thing that I'm known
for the most is butchering people's names. Anthony Gold, the
wide receiver has no practiced all week with a knee injury,
so that's he is down the depth chart. Yeah, certainly.
Let's see here. Taekwon Lewis, the defensive end, did not
(09:09):
practice yesterday with a groin He was a full participant today.
Kenny Moore, the corner with an achilles did not practice yesterday.
He's a full participant today, and it's actually pretty big.
He's a really good slot. You don't like to see
achilles listen.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Uh, and then he'll actually be probably one of the
two outside guys now too. Their corner position is not great.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Two more here. Braden Smith the tackle, went from not
practicing yesterday to a full participant today. He's a starting
to right tackle, good player. Grover Stewart, the defensive tackle,
has not practiced yet this week with a foot injury.
That screams veteran. Though he's been around the block so
relatively Uh, I think manageable and mostly good news there
for the Colts.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yeah, they've been other than the cornerback situation, they've been
very fortunate with injuries.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yes, yes, and uh like a lot of those guys
who were did not practice on Wednesday, went back to
uh to full participation today. So that's kind of your
injury report. Uh. The all the latest here on Thursday
as is, that's something that we really keep an eye
on here. Let me see this as well too. Uh
(10:15):
good old and from Steelers PR just sent one more
follow up email. Uh, Darius Slade did not practice today
personal matter though not not not listed as anything injury wise.
Did not practice with a personal matter for Darius Slay today.
So that was the that was the only change there
in the uh the latest update that just came across
(10:37):
the timeline. So I think about what we expect for
the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, yeah, it sounds like see and just in terms
of the injury see them all loose seems like the
only major one looming that we don't know today.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yes, and I guess something could always happen with Zach Frasier, right, Yeah,
I guess, But that feels like they've kind of throughout
the week got him on a pitch count.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
And sounds like a carbon copy all last week, like
you mentioned, yeah, copy and pa his name.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Right, Well, obviously that's our that's our baby, baby. I
think the only the only thing I've had to cheer
about out of Morgantown for the last six or seven years.
I mean, I guess that other than you know, a
backyard brawl victory a little over a month ago. Don't
talk to me though, about what's happened to the two
programs since then. A tale of two different cities, for sure, Matt.
(11:23):
When we returned on the other side, a couple more
of your stats that I want to discuss with you.
We got to talk a little Thursday night preview. They
see the bird lose. Yeah, I tell you what. Yeah,
they've been on Thursday Night football couple of times already,
haven't they. Am I wrong?
Speaker 3 (11:37):
They don't know that?
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Just one just once the Giants, right, Yeah, I don't
remember correcting that. Wait, sorry, I'm I'm I'm confusing myself.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
I don't think abouts I'm thinking Eagles. I'm thinking Eagles, Giants.
Sorry sorry, Uh, Dolphins though they're the Dolphins. I think
have been on Thursday Night twice. But anyway, it's the
Ravens and Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Say the concentrate on the Birdies for all sixty minutes, Like.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Yeah, sit down and really watch a Baltimore game. Now
that they're getting a little bit healthier out of their.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Bye week ramar all that they could lose. I hope
so AFC North on the road Thursday night. It's always bad.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I'll be interesting to see how that defense holds up
in particular, so plenty to get to in the final
two segments of the show. Here, you know where to
get at us if you want to get those tweets
in and get involved. West Yuuler, Matt Williamson, It is
the Drive on Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network,
(12:39):
your tunes.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
About Drive on your twenty four to seven home of
the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Back on the Drive here on a Thursday, as we
head down the home stretch. Some good news for the
Houston Texans, Matt, both Nico Collins and Christian Kirk expected
me back and playing against the Broncos. The build there
they are, but it's like every I don't know what
it is. Do they have the toughest I haven't looked
at the entirety. I mean, I have to a couple
(13:24):
of points. They've got to have some some reprieve at
the end of the schedule, because it feels like every
week we talk playing somebody great it's like, Okay, they're
getting back close to Oh, here come the Niners.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Okay, they get the Titans right right right.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
They have Denver, then they have Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Then they got a sudden Jacksonville and Indie look a
lot better than they used to too.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
So they have Denver at home, Jacksonville at home. That's tough.
Then they go to Tennessee. Okay, then they have Buffalo, Indianapolis,
Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
They have a first play schedule, so they're gonna get
the They're gonna get the Ravens. They're gonna get the.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Their schedule has been hllacious already. You're right, that first
play schedule is yeah, the Ravens are seeing that too.
But like Matt, they have you can circle two wins
on their schedule the rest of the year, Tennessee and
Houston because they already played the already beat Tennessee once.
But like they've got Denver, they've got Jacksonville, they've got Buffalo,
(14:21):
they've got Indy twice, they've got Kansas City, they've got
the Chargers on the road Arizona. Okay, maybe you'd circle
that one as well, but that's I'll.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Tell you what two or three games your favorite if
they played them today.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
If Houston does make it into the playoffs, they're going
to be battle tested and ready to go and a
legit team, I think because.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
It is interesting because they'vedug themselves a whole, they're starting
to play a lot better and Nico comes back. They're
the best offensive game without their best offensive player.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
But it's murders uphill climb. Yeah. I mean, they've they've
got some nice they've got some north Face gear and
and and ready to go. But that's a tough uphill
climb that they got the rest of the way.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
They have the best defense in the league.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
They are allowing the lowest points a game. That's my
favorite metric for judging the defense. They are no Moro
Uno in that regard. At just hold on, I have
it right here. Fourteen point seven points per.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Game, and they played good teams and they played.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Right giving up just thirteen touchdowns on the year, only
behind the La Rams. Rams have the third best scoring
defense in the league, Colts six best, don't look now,
six best, allowing just nineteen point three points per game.
That's something that we talked about earlier, Matt. A team
that is going to try and start digging themselves out
(15:34):
of their hole. I guess they did at home Sunday
again against Chicago. The Baltimore Ravens are two and five.
They are in Miami against the two and six Dolphins.
They are seven and a half point favorites. Only four
teams have ever made the playoffs in league history with
from the position that the Ravens were in. Okay, Baltimore,
(15:57):
I gotta think will probably need to win eight of
its last ten to have a change.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Maybe you can afford two losses ten and seven. They
can't be the Steelers, right, yeah, right.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
They would need some tie breakers, but ten and seven
could certainly would would absolutely have you right in the
thick of things.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
It would have even think of things. And who knows.
I mean subject to change, But I tend to lean
towards only one team in the North.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
That's going to go.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
I'm with you on that because I think Buffalo and
New England are probably both gonna end up. There's three
candidates in the West. The Colts would be be shocking
if they don't end up there. And I don't think
Houston's dead, No, and Jacksonville's alive too.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
But you know that still feels like of Houston and Jacksonville.
One of those teams I think is going to be
right in it.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Yeah, I would imagine no one might.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
One might fall off, but I think one of those
teams is going to be right in it. Denver, Kansas City,
one of those teams is going to the playoffs, which
every one doesn't win, whicheveryone doesn't Chargers will be in it.
Chargers are right there, Patriots and Bills. One of those
teams is going to the playoffs, whoever doesn't win that division.
So you start to look around the Titanic and there's
not many seats left.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
No, and maybe I'm wrong, maybe the second place team
in the North can get a wild card.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
A lot of things will change, but that does favor
the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
I mean, two of the Steelers' losses are against NFC teams,
so their AFC tie breakers are pretty good. I don't
think the Ravens are, like I know, the Ravens lost
head up to Texans. I think they've lost a lot
of as.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Lost to Buffalo. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they lose the Kansas
City as well too.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yes, so they've lost it just right when they've played
But yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Yeah, and their wins are against Chicago, and I'm drawing
a blank was a Carolina but Chicago and NFC team,
so that does yea yeah right. I know their tie
breakers are really bad, really bad, but they still according
to ESPN Analytics forty three percent chance to make the playoffs,
Steelers at about fifty four percent chance. Okay, uh, only.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
They have to win the night though. They have to,
and I think they will, but I'm shocked at seven
and a half. Lamar makes a ton of different don't
get me wrong, of course, but.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
He's also got to have some rust. I mean, he
hasn't played.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Miami is coming off a pretty nice game too, I mean.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Maybe their best performance of the season.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, we do the power ranks. They're not thirty two.
I mean, I'm not saying they're middle of the top fifteen,
but two. They're coming off a decent game. They're at home.
Tough places to play, I definitely think. I mean, if
this was the Steelers going to Miami, we'd be talking
about Tomlin. On the road on Thursday nights, Harbaugh is
just the same. I mean, every team in the division
(18:30):
is really bad on the road on Thursday nights, no
matter who they play. Miami's not the easiest place in
the world to play, I mean, and.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Hopefully Baltimore all their players went out Wednesday night on
South Beach and enjoyed the yeah yeah, go strong.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
And they think they have some fundamental problems that both
lines of scrimmage. Maybe I'll be totally wrong about all
those things. I'm not predicting they're getting beat, but I
think tonight they'll just be telling do they have things
fixed or are they in trouble?
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Like I kind of sloppily said that stat but of
all the teams in NFL history who have started one
to five or worse, only four have made the playoffs. Wow,
that's about one percent of the teams in league history
that start one in five or worse.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Go to the past quite the run, you would, and
another bad thing can't happen. It can't be like oh, lamar,
I got heard again, you know, like we're just assuming
there's gonna be healthy the rest of the way. I mean,
that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Great Point, Great Point Cleveland and Chicago are their two wins,
so they do have one AFC win, but the other
one is a is NFC. They lost to Buffalo, Detroit,
Kansas City, Houston, and LA. So three of drugs. Good teams.
So they're one and three to the CFC right now,
right UH at Miami, at Minnesota, at Cleveland. Then they
host the Jets, then they host the Bengals. Then they
(19:38):
host the Steelers three straight home games. You can definitely
see him go and run, you could. Then they go
to Cincinnati, they host the Patriots. That's tough. And they're
in those last two. I mean they're hoping just to
get to those last three games against New England at
Green Bay at Pittsburgh for it for a chance.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
I think they can blow me away if Week eighteen
is for the title.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
So you'll laugh. Our Dan Quinlan, who's like the marketing
and promotions extraordinary here at iHeartRadio. He is also our
producer for the UH for the game day broad game.
So he's the producer. I'm the engineer. We're kind of
the two that sit right behind Robin Max and you know,
do all the behind the scenes, run the show type stuff.
(20:20):
A couple of weeks ago, I said to him, maybe
this is on me hand up, maybe I jinxed it
all right, but it's not as bad as Rob King
saying this. Steelers are gonna blow this team out when
they were up ten nothing on the Bengal Maybe before
that Bengals game, I think it was, I said to Quinlan.
I was like, man, because that's always it's been. The
NFL does this now where Week eighteen eighteen is all TVDH,
(20:44):
it's all division, it's all TVD. There's no time scheduled
or dates scheduled for any of those.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Was the best stuff at the best time and all.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
They'll put a couple of games on Saturday. Yeah, they'll
put all the sludge at one o'clock on Sunday, right
and then and then the best game Sunday evening. So
Saturday night and Sunday evening become the big thing. In
the last couple of years, that's been a big game
for the Steelers or for Baltimore, and it's been on
Saturday night. It's like the last super Smart's very smart.
But it drives you know, as it's crazy, drives us crazy,
(21:10):
as people who have kids and wives and lives and
need to make a schedule when.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
The coaches and the people have to make travel arrangements
and things.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Like college football does that every bleeping week, which drives
me nuts.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
They move things around that much.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
The six day windows now, oh wow, So for example,
is that new? Uh No, it's been going on for
a few years now. For example, next Saturday, so what's
that nine day eight days from now, nine days from now, Yeah,
when we will be in LA ahead of Steelers Chargers.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Right right right, you guys have already flown there area.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
UCLA hosts Nebraska at the Rose Bull. I would really
like to go, but it's going to depend on what
time the game is.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Said, they don't even know yet.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
That game's eight days away, nine days away, and they
haven't set a kickoff time yet and they won't until Monday. Wow,
it'll be six days ef.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
So like, you know, you'll be in the city. You
just don't know if you could go or not. Correct,
that's crazy, correct, Like I'm sure Nebraska people are. Like.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
The next Saturday, WVU hosts Colorado, which, as you could imagine,
is a sold out, big deal because Deon Sanders is
coming to Morgantown for the first time. Tickets. They just
announced the kickoff time yesterday. Wow. So you know, I
love college football. That's the one of the things that
drives me absolute bumkersfair It's it's ridiculous. It's it's such crap,
(22:24):
and the TV networks get away with it. So why
would they not. We're gonna put the best games and
the best slots and all that. But it drives me nuts,
especially in college where so many people are you know,
your son one day lives in Pittsburgh but graduated from Kentucky.
He only he only goes.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Even this weekend, he's meeting buddies at Ohio State to
go see Ohio State Michigan or Ohio State, Penn State,
Penn State. If they didn't know what time it was,
that would make things a little more difficult.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
You know, Like like I've got some buddies from college
that just come back for homecoming weekend every year. A
lot of times they're like should I fly on Friday night?
Should I? You know what I mean? Because I'm not
going to know when the staking kickoff is until six
days before the game. Anyway, Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox.
I know nobody cares.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
So my least one of my least fair of things
I've ever done in my career. I did it for
one game, but I had to organize all the travel
arrangements for Akron going to Penn State opening day. Cool
and I learned very quickly to hate it.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
That seems very detail oriented with so.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Much to it, and it's not football related at all.
I was a director of pouring Matt's status no, right, right, right,
and quickly I was very happy when the Browns called.
I'm like, I never produced again.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
I have to do one game bo.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
But at least the visiting teams know they're gonna be
I mean, you're gonna land at the same time either way.
You know, it would be nice so when kickoff is
but it probably doesn't change your travel arrangements or hotel arrangements, right,
you know.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Yes, that that's a good point from the team's perspective.
It's like, Okay, we're gonna be there the night before regardless.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
But again, I remember that it was a long time ago.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
They play at Stanford Saturday. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're flying
out evening instead of Friday, they're flying out. They're flying
out Thursday to kind of give themselves an extra day
to adjust to, you know, the time change and go
to the West coast and all that.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
I mean, it's a small detail unless you're the one
in charge of it.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Like I was really you're the athletic partment that has
to pay for an extra night of Yeah, two hundred
people at a hotel. Yeah, they give you a little deal.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
But right, I mean they all room together, but it's
still a lot of rooms and it's a lot of money, right, yeah,
and a lot of food.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
You know. You know, I go on the road with
the Steelers. You did it in Dublin. You've seen the
operation that.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
It's awesome, unbelievable. I missed it a pit. It was incredible, right,
I mean, whatever you want. But I was thinking about that.
It's like, well, when I tell the hotel I need
breakfast and lunch or do I need breakfast, lunch and
something else?
Speaker 2 (24:41):
You know, like, I it's a cone game, you don't
need dinner. You're getting on.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
That light getting right right, right, I see the pregame
meal and get me out of here.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Right college football? But yeah, I was anyways to get
back to where I was like, how did we get here?
I said to Quinland. I said to our producer Dan Quinlan.
I was like, hey, I bet you will finally have
Week eighteen as a Sunday one o'clock came. We've had
this set the last few years, We've got to go
to Baltimore on a Saturday night and it's like, come on, man,
and then we don't get home till three in the morning.
(25:08):
It's like, is this really? Can we can we just
have a Sunday one o'clock game. Yeah, I've got a
bad feeling that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Yeah, I have a feeling Raven Steelers are gonna matter
in some way, shape.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Or some for for one of the two teams.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
It's gonna matter someone's eliminated or close to it, and
someone's gonna need this team to win in that team
to win to get in.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Yeah, you know right. Yeah. Could be another that's exactly
what the NFL wants. Could be another Saturday night, although
at least this time it'll be at Akrosser Stadium, not
in freezing cold Baltimore. My kidding, actress are still gonna
be freezing Matt One more segment to go. Oh wait,
hold on, real quick predictions for tonight seven and a half.
You said that's a that is a big to take
the money or take the point, Take the points on
(25:48):
a short week. Touchdown feels always a good stress.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
I believe this Harbor Tomlin AFC North Road thing.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Over under fifty one and a half points. It's not
crazy high, but it's not low. I think so too.
Both of these teams can score some points. Certainly Miami,
as you mentioned, coming off an impressive offensive performance to
a play and it wasn't it wasn't my bar to clear,
but it was his best game that he's played one
(26:18):
of these teams, Matt, their season is going to be
basically over tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Miami's might be the Miamis might be no matter division,
but he's if he gets blown out the night, he
may not see Friday, employment.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Might not make it to the weekend. Yeah yeah, and maybe.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Jaalen Waddle's on the move, then you know we'll be
Ripple effects.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Or Bradley Chubb and well.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
If Phillips and William or Phillips and Chubb and et.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Cetera, formerly of this parish. To use a different church reference,
make a Fitzpatrick. Yeah, all on the line tonight eight
fifteen of course on Prime, Ravens and Dolphins, Birds and
Fish go get a Miami. One more segment to go
on the other side, will wrap up. We'll close down
with some of your tweets and final thoughts. Wes Sheeler,
(27:01):
Matt Williamson. It's the Drive on Steelers Nation Radio on
the Steelers Audio Network, your.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven home
of the Black.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
And Goal Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Final segment here on a Thursday. Of course, tomorrow will
be a big day, as we will have a full
Halloween of course eight. I was joking at the start
of the show, how if you're someone who listens in
podcasts for normally great, but watch the first five minutes
of the show where we're sampling candy here on YouTube.
(27:52):
Spoiler not even spoiler teaser, you might want to watch
the first few minutes on YouTube tomorrow on halloweens as
well too. Imagine that man pen ultimate show of the
week here, pen ultimate day of octag I mean, that's
crazy to me, Matt, I was saying this, you know,
like you're the one who does fifty million different shows
(28:12):
and podcasts. I do this, and then I also do
a WVU show as well too, And last night we're
kind of running through some of the you know, at
the end of our show we always kind of do
like a big twelve pick them and then a couple
of the other big you know, national games that we'll
discuss for sixty seconds or whatever. And I'm like, all right,
this Saturday slate November first, It's like, holy crap, It's
(28:34):
like by the time college football kicks off on Saturday afternoon,
it's going to be November November. Right. That happened, quick, man.
I mean it always does this. It always does the
football season and this time of year always flies. It
still takes you back.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
I mean, I've been doing this for a lot of seasons.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
But it's week nine in the NFL already, yeah ten
in college and college teams only have four games left.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
You're probably quickly figuring this out too, and I'm sure
it's similar for you. But every every week is Groundhog Day.
I mean, unless the Steelers play a weird day.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Unless it's a Thursday game in Cincinnati or a game
in Double Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Or a Monday night game or something, everything has changed around.
But I can tell you exactly what i'mnna be doing
on four o'clock on Thursday a month from now, or
Monday at nine am, or you know.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
I mean, I know exactly what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah, I mean, I I actually start the season with
a spreadsheet. Okay, this hour is blocked off, this this, this, this,
you know, like, Okay.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
When I moved into this time slot in this show
with you from my previous time slot was ten am
to two o'clock, and I remember talking with our bosses
and the powers that be of them being like any
concerns anything like that, I was like, I love Matt.
He's great, We're gonna have a lot of fun. Like yeah,
I was like, but I just hope you know, like
I am. I have to uproot my life, my wife's life,
(29:47):
are kids lives because you got my children right. Thing
is playing for me to be in the studio at
this time and now I'm gonna be there to complete
office at times exactly right.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
You got pretty used to this routine at this time,
at that.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Time and this day and that day. And that's Matt.
You and I don't have much in common with athletes,
but being creatures of routine during the season, certainly one
of them. Let's go to the tweets here to close
things down. A reminder, like we we take two tweets
all throughout the week, and so if you send them,
if you say us a good one, if you send
us a good one. At random times, I'll bookmarket and
(30:22):
we'll save it for the next show or something like that.
But Thursdays we can kind of deep dive into these.
We kind of do the Thursday Twitter mail bag ex
Twitter mail bag if you will. And you know, we
were laughing about some of my radio host quirks earlier.
Jackson tweets here and says, please inform West that not
every single thing that is similar is same church, different pew,
(30:46):
all in good fun, love the show and listen every day.
You will find a lot of people who do this
for a living like you, and I think you and
I are in the same boat here, a lot of
people who do this radio hosting, TV, You're right whatever.
Some type of media take themselves way too seriously. I
tried not to. I laugh at myself about the same church,
(31:08):
different pew, stuff about the as well to stuff. I
realized that I have my flaws as a radio host.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
As you mentioned, I have a lot of different outlets
and a week all week I've been joking the Steelers
have been handing out completions like it's Halloween, can.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Seven different places? Right?
Speaker 3 (31:25):
You're right, right, Like it's you know you got to
repeat yourself a little bit sometimes too.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Annie tweets us since speaking of Halloween candy here this
transition is nicely she said. You know, she enjoyed the
segment from yesterday, the brief Halloween candy segment that we did,
but she needs to know our thoughts on the most
polarizing of them all. Candy corn. Yeah. I don't hate,
but I would don't seek it out either. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
I think Chris yesterday or day before said it's the
worst thing on the planet. I don't even know where
it's place is, Okay, in a bowl that nobody eats
it in there, you know, like hype.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, yeah, you are on a desert island, Matt Williamson
cast away, Tom Hanks, You and you and Wilson baby. Yeah,
Genie comes down and you can have one of two
food options to feed yourself for the next week.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Candy corn's wine or almond joyce allmenjoys and more nourishing.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
It will keep me.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Alive longer than just pure sugar. There's like nuts in
there and coconut coking.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
It will hydrate you at least a little.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Bit, right, So I probably would take them anyway, Like
I'd never choose coconut. I don't hate coconut though, it's
just if I'm gonna eat calories, it's not gonna be coconut.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
I don't hate candy corn, but I never have it.
I would never pick it. Yeah, I'm not like I
can't right right.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
When I was a kid, I'd be like, it's all right,
you know, if I was eight or whatever. Which begs
this question, yeay or nay? On black licorice, I know
that's not a Halloween I'm a big yah. I know
I'm in the minority, and I think it makes me
feel old.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
I'm not a liquorice guy, period. I love it. Do
you like the big one, like the big honkin licorices?
Or do you like just like the twizzler like the
peel and.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Wwizzards are gold? I mean twizzlers are gold.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
You and my wife would My wife, Morgan loves her
some twizzlers.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Like black liquors still come in like big honks, But
it makes you feel old. That's an old person, can't.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
It's a very old person. Candy. There's not many foods
Matt Williamson that I'm like, no chance, but black liquors.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
I definitely see why people say that.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Might have had a incident in high school where I
had a little black licorice and maybe too much to drink.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
And I think you're gonna say, was it Rumplem, what's
the black liquorice?
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Liquor? It's not like the like Yeggert, yeah, kind of
black licorice.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
I think there's there's a couple of black liquors liquors
out there that are bad.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
I'm good on all that. I'll just stick to the
beer into tequila and the Reeses and the nerds clusters
are hit. Andrew tweets us along the lines of our
conversation about the Shawn Elliott and I are Jeremy Fowler,
formerly of this parish. Yes, uh Is just reported the
(34:18):
Steelers may be calling to Shawn Elliott week to week,
but people I've talked to are not optimistic that he
will return this season.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I've heard a little bit of everything on that.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
It's one thing of like they're gonna pu him on
ir in hell Miss a month as opposed to most
of the entire season.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I always say, teams tell you what they think more
than they actually speak it, you know, like and go
and make the dugger trade. Sure, seems like a one
for one replacement for Elliott because Dougger's not a free.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
Man.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah, and Fowler's pretty tapped in. Like I don't know, yah, yeah,
he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Just it wouldn't shock me one bit.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Yeah, I mean when it happened live.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
When the game happened, I'm like, I think.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
He's on for the year. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Ah man, that's such a press conference. Originally was kind
of promising, but.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Who knows, maybe something changed, maybe they were still waiting
final word. Maybe he just didn't want to pay the
doom and gloom picture. Again.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
I hate talking medical, but sometimes if like wait till
the swelling goes down before they further evaluated, and things
like that.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Yeah, yeah, last one here, Matt, I like this another Andrew.
He was a loyal tweeter of Motes and I on
the blitz. He says, three question Thursday with a question mark.
So this is something I think I've explained to mos
and I would do this sometimes where people could submit
random Sometimes they could be related to sports, but sometimes
they could be random as well. Three questions why not?
(35:39):
We got a couple of minutes here. Number one from Andrew,
what part of history do you find most interesting.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
WW two is pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
World War two is fantastic. Yeah that an American revolution
World War two, an American revolution would be my answers,
What are your opinion on tattoos? Not for me, but
I have one. It's my wife's name on my ring
because I hate jewelry. Okay, if you ever see me
wearing necklaces or wristbands or.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Like, this is the only thing that saysn't been off
on his.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Shoulder and be like, you're not Wes who, You're an
alien in Wes's body because I never wear jewelry.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Although this I probably this does not paint myself in
a great light and it'll blow you away. But if
you notice this ear lobe, it's ripped open. Oh yeah,
because I used to have a crystal that would dangle
like long back in days high school in the college,
and one day I just woke up next to it
on the pillow after too many tugs playing hoops or whatever.
(36:38):
Never hurt, but I was like joke with my wife,
like you can identify my body with my torny year lob.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Matt goes to war, he doesn't need dog tags, just
just look for the ear that was many moons Ago.
That's hilarious, Crystal. I've seen some college pictures of you
and like snakes hanging around.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
J Jack, you know, Jim Morrison, feel to it.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Last one from Andrew here this is a good one too.
These are three bag I'm not against them or anything, right, I.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Get the idea, but I don't have any.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
I never Probably I am getting one in May, though,
I can tell you that. Yeah. My sister she made
me promise that if she went to WVU when she graduated,
we would get WVU tattoos. I don't know where I'm
going to get it, how big it's going to be,
what exactly it's going to be, anything like that, but
my sister's graduate and my sister's graduate, Like I'm post
malone or one of these, one of these new musicians.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
The segment bet many of our listeners would have bet
the farm that you already had a w tattoo.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Probably, yeah, probably tried to get one the day before
I graduated. I had had a couple of beers and
they wouldn't do it. That makes sense because it fit
alcohol finds your blood and they and I was like, Okay,
no problem, I'll come back tomorrow and then just never
did it. All I needed was my younger sister to
become a mountaineer and to graduate. It'll be cool, it'll
be fun. I'm looking forward to it. Last one from
(38:00):
Andrew here, good one. What thing do you procrastinate the
most on? Hmm? You ready for this? Mine? Anything that
has to do with like taxes or registration.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah, there's definitely things that like.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Car registration, property in school taxes, you know, Like.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
I'm sure my wife has a long insurance, but it's
usually something like that, like something that comes in the mail.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
It has been sitting at my seat for it's gonna
require me to sit down and do something that I
don't try.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
He goes by and like, I guess that's still been sitting.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Drives me nuts, Yeah, drives me nuts. That's what I
think mine would be like, just like bills and insurance
and registrations and all that paperwork. Paperwork.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Yeah, I'll how much paperwork.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
I'll let it sit there till the last day possible,
last day possible. Good stuff. Today covered a lot of
different bases here on this Thursday show. Big thanks to
Bob Labriola for joining us. As always, thanks to Matt
Williamson for bringing in the nerds gummy trying man. What
they were talking on got the gummy out fantastic, A
(39:09):
big shout out to our video producer and statistician. He's
adding that to the resume, Tyler V researcher, researcher. He's
like Tony really, you know you remember Tony Reality from ESPN.
He'd like produce PTI and they'd host around the Horn.
He was like the stat guy for Will Bond and
Kornheiser before he became big time. That's gonna be TV
one of these days.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
And our buddy Nathan hanging out here learning the ropes
in the studio is one of our newest producers here
at iHeart and the Steelers Audio Network. For Matt Williamson,
I'm West Shueler. Take care everybody, Big show tomorrow on Friday,
five Star Friday, all those fixings as we get you
ready for Steelers and Colts. We'll talk to you soon.
Take care. As always, you know where to find us.
(39:51):
It's on your twenty four seven Home of the Black
and Gold Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network
