Speaker 1 (00:02):
Your tunes about drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good evening, Steeler Nation, How we do it us too?
It is the Drive here on Steelers Nation Radio. As
the afternoon moves into the evening and the trade deadline
pencils down, everybody has passed and the Pittsburgh Steelers have stood.
Pat matt Well, I guess to be fair, like we mentioned,
they did make the Kyle Dugger trade last week.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
That's funny, like if you make a trade two days
before the deadline, you didn't do anything.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
You didn't do anything, not maybe a big sexy splash
like some people had hoped for. But they did get
their business done a little bit early. I think there's
something to be said for that. There certainly was on
Sunday you needed that guy. But that appears to be
for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But of course a lot of

(01:03):
moving and shaking across the league.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Are you surprised?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Ish?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I am too. I would have bet yes. Like if
I woke up this morning and said will the trade
be done today?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I would have said yes.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
I would have said yes.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I wouldn't have said one no, but I would have
leaned that direction. I also wouldn't have said you're gonna
get Chris Olave or Garrett Wilson or some some massive
massive name, some massive massive name. But yeah, I I
would have leaned towards yes. Me too, I would have
definitely leaned towards yes.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
And so because after last year, I know it's not much,
but like Preston Smith and Mike Williams, like I didn't
see that coming, right, just add something, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, I'm I'm I'm with you one hundred percent, and.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Not that those deals paid off great, but yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
You know, again, like there's reports out that what you
would really like to know if you could be the
fly on the proverbial wall, right or the proverbial fly
on the wall, is what conversations were they having.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, you know, it'd be great.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Because like you know, there's reports out there that the
Dolphins were asking for a first round pick and more
for Jalen Waddle. Was it similar for like a Chris
o'lave and some of these You know, the Steelers did
kick the tires on some of these and ended up passing.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Both those guys. You can easily make the case from
the Saints and Dolphins perspective should be part of the answer,
not the problem.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Too, especially if you want that answer to come in
the next calendar year and.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
You're geting in new quarterback, you have someone to throw
them to.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Absolutely, right, you know, right, absolutely, yeah, you want to nest, right,
like we always talk about, you want to nest and
so you know, maybe I'd love to know how involved
the Steelers really were in the Jacobe Meers conversations. There
were reports out there that they were, and that the
Chargers offered a little bit more, or the Chargers part
of me, the Jaguars offered a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
And if I were the Raiders, I'd been pretty happy
with that haul. It was a fourth and six six,
that's if you had told me to Steeler gave a
fourth and six, like.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh, kind of a lot, little rich for your blood rich, right,
But that's the things that I wanted to ask you.
He is due for a contract at the end of
the season.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
To pay him.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
On top of that, you either got to pay him,
but there's also no guarantees that he's going to resign, right.
You know, you might trade for him and he might
say I'm hitting the open market.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
And sometimes those deals get put in place. I'll give
you the fourth and sixth. If I could talk to
the agent. We got a deal totally, you know, a
handshake agreement totally. But the Steelers usually don't do those things.
They don't negotiate people in mid season.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I mean that's part of that too, right, I.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Don't know if they would in an instance like that
or not. And he's not good enough to franchise' nothing's bad,
but you know you don't have that.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
You don't want to pay that kind of money. Yeah, yeah,
so plenty to get into here.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Matt Schefter did report like when Schefter's first tweet said
the Steelers and somebody else were interested, yes, you know, yes,
I trust him. Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
The Bills and the Chiefs also not making any moves today,
which is a little surprising, but Matt one that is
I think kind of the.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Tea that were busy, I mean other than the bad
teams were like Dallas and Jacksonville, like are you guys
contenders or not?

Speaker 2 (04:06):
And the Chargers too. Yeah yeah, right, yeah, let's get
into that one. Since it's the Steelers upcoming opponent, this
is it's.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
A minor move, but it's relevant for today.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
The Chargers acquired offensive lineman Trevor Penning from the Saints
amid obviously just that laundry list of injuries that LA
has had to their offensive line. What do we need
to know about Trevor Penning?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, he as the Saints often do. They were very
aggressive on draft day what four years ago, and they
took a lave early and then they traded up to
get Penning, who's he went to Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa. Yes,
a small school dude that really tested well, big, super

(04:47):
physical Senior Bowl was kind of a standout, very violent,
slash penalty prone after the whistle, throw people down, kick them,
you know, like I mean stuff like too much, you know.
And frankly, I never really liked him coming out of
school and joked back then that this guy is more

(05:11):
likely to be a WWE heavyweight champion than he is
Hall of Famer, you know, like he just screams WW
to me because he's like a big three and thirty
pound acute, a nasty right right.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Running right through the fireworks and the fire and smoke.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
It looks like he's always too caffeinated up and you know,
but it is telling because I'm sure They gave up nothing.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
For twenty twenty seven sixth round pick.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Which is the least you can give up in the
whole world, basically because he was they obviously we're not
going to pick him a fifth year of option. They drafted
some of the Saints. They drafted a tackle in each
of the last two first rounds, which just screams, you
weren't the answer four years ago. So I took a
tackle now I think about it, three out of four
years in the first round. Yeah, obviously they weren't thrilled

(05:56):
with him, but to me, it just screams how bad
the the offensive tackle and no line situation is in order.
The Charger Yeah right, so might as well go down
this road now like the Steelers, but even in a
better way. And the Saints, come to think of it,
these this was a team. The Chargers then invested two
premium picks in offensive tackles in a short amount of time.

(06:20):
Slater was already there before Harbaugh was hired, but there
was a year in between. Unlike the Saints and Steelers,
Slater gap Harbaugh gets their Alt and you're like, whoa,
this is gonna be awesome. And Alt's a pure left tackle,
but they put him at right because Slater was entrenched
at left. This offseason, they give Slater a huge deal,

(06:42):
one of the most highly paid alignement in history, and
then you feel terrible about it. But shortly after he
gets hurt in mini camp or training camp or something
out for the year, you know, like right after gave
him the deal, you take all and you move him
back to the left where he played a Notre Dame, and
he looks like he's into his whole life and is
better than ever one of the league. And then he

(07:05):
gets hurt and they kind of fall apart without him,
as you can imagine, you lost both your tackles. Then
he came back a couple of years, a couple of
weeks ago, maybe even just two weeks ago, looked phenomenal,
offense starts to turn around. I don't think that's a coincidence.
And then he gets hurt last week and he's now
out for the year, so you really have nothing at tackle,

(07:27):
and Heart was the right tackle. I guess we'll start
getting into their practice reports, and it always gets cloudy
with West Coast teams.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Dat, yeah, the time difference and everything, but Heart.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
The right tackle. Last week they started right there, hard
at right all that left both got hurt and I
don't think either finished the game. All absolutely did not.
And Heart's not very good either. I mean he's been
He's like a petting journeyman anyway. But that was the
best they had, so they might be short both those
dudes back then. Who was a tackle by trade that

(07:58):
the Eagles turned into a high and guard. Another former
first round pick is really good when he's out there,
but he's hurt all the time too. Penning has played
some guard for the Saints, so I guess they're probably
looking at it like we just want big bodies with
We've talked to a million times how hard it is to
trade for o lineman and tackles the deadline. I mean,

(08:20):
sometimes you can get the former first round pick that
is a total washout, and that's exactly what he is.
So if he sees the field, it just shows the
state that they're.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
It shows kind of the desperate, yeah, desperate mode that
they're in.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
And matchups. I'm gonna so we do this matchup show
with Missy and Rob and we start emailing each other
usually like Tuesday morning, like what are our topics for
the week, and yeah, what are the three we're going
to pick on each side of the ball. And the
big thing I think I'm stressing more than ever is
their tackles against the Steelers edge guys. And I think

(08:55):
the Steelers tackles against their edge guys is important too.
Khalil Mack two to a Pelopo. I'm I try not
to pronounce it impressive. And who's their other edge guys?
Pretty good? Oh? A way that they traded forffee over Yeah,
so something to keep in mind.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
We will deep dive into that plenty later on in
the week. Yes, yes, Matt, before we get to some
more of these blockbusters, stay in division here. Are you
surprised we didn't see Cincinnati do anything today in the
cellar department, particularly obviously Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Yeah, sort of, Except for their such a stubborn organize.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
They are notoriously tough to deal with.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
And notoriously I bet that was a sticky.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
They make fewer trades than anybody here.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
They do. And I just noticed when I was getting
coffee last time, I was just messed around on Twitter
looking to see if there's any more moves. Joe Goodberry's
covered the Bengals for a really long time and well respected,
and I trust him. With the Bengals, he thinks they're
gonna franchise him after the year, which to me just
screams more dissension and problem. Hold sounding your problems, and

(10:02):
you know, so that's probably the way they're thinking about it,
and therefore they probably only would take a one for them.
But even if I'm like the Lions, I'm not giving
you a one for nine games plus playoffs. And then
I got to pay him on top of that at
his age, you know. Yeah, So I was joking on
my podcast earlier today, like the Bengals to me, are

(10:26):
that team in your fantasy league where you go to
the draft and everyone's drinking and having a good time.
And he's thrilled with this team. You know, man, I
can't believe I got this guy in the fifth round
and I got this guy in the seventh round. My
team's awesome. And then Week five, Week ten, he still
thinks his team's never changed, you know, like I still
have the best team ever, Like nothing's ever changed. I

(10:49):
got the best. You know, I nailed it. I don't
need to do anything, I don't need to make any moves. Well,
then you lose.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
You know, yes, yes you do. I am surprised by that.
Not surprised by that, because that's just kind of the
Bengals and what they do. But I thought, man, that
one feels like, do you.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Think they think they can still compete and get in
the playoffs? I bet the answer is yes.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
I think makes them better totally after they beat the Steelers.
Completely fair conversation in.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
A way, that might have been the worst thing for them.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Because if they would have lost to the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
And there definitely and I think you're making and.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
You're definitely looking forward to twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, I just I mean they're probably looking at it
like our offense is awesome.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Our offense is one of the better ones in the league, and.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
We would have given up seventy without Hendrickson. Sure.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Also, are they three and five or three and six?

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Now?

Speaker 2 (11:44):
I think they're three and six.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Aren't they think they're three and six? Yeah, I don't
think they've had their buy No.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I don't think they have either. I mean, they are
three and six, have not had their bye week. If
you're four and five, it's a completely different story. Three
and six as opposed to four and five is just
a complete different story. And again, I think, particularly when
you look at the scope of the AFC, those wild
card spots are going to be tough. There might be
a ten win team that doesn't make the playoffs. Yeah,

(12:10):
and I don't.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
And I'm sure they're looking at like if we going
to survive until Burrow gets back, that's great, but.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
That's probably least still another month away. And again, it's
not that the offense has been the problem.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
That's what I was gonna say, Like, the scored.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Forty two points against.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Scoring points isn't an issue.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
I can play linebacker, right, Joe Burrow rushed the passer, Yeah,
cover Colston Lovelin down the middle of the field.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I'd rather take teams on with Burrow than Flacco. But
if you're putting up thirty to forty five every week,
that's not the issue. Matt.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
One team who is certainly all out, all selling, all
looking towards the future is the New York j Et
s yeh Jets. Jets. Jets. They made a couple wow,
blockbuster type moves today.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
And after the ones they made, I'm kind of shocked
they didn't make the easier ones.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
The Bree Hall Tall Yeah, We're gonna get to that
on the other side, because that's gonna be a beefier conversation.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
That's the biggest story.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
It's the biggest It's the story in the NFL today,
maybe the story in sports today. Let's get to that
when we return on the other sides. We have plenty
of time to discuss. It will continue to kick around
all these different trade deadline deals across the National Football League.
What ruler Matt Williams said, it's the Drive on Steelers
Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Your tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
All right, Matt, certainly the story of the trade deadline
day is the New York Jets. You talk about selling
fire sale for the New York Jets, although as you mentioned,
they did retain Breise Hall and Garrett Wilson. I think
the two pieces that everybody thought could be on the move,
and Hall's.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
A free agent after the year, so I think he's
not gonna be around. Yes, yes, I probably said he
wanted traded like an hour ago.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Maybe they just couldn't find anyone who was giving them
any type of a reasonable offer. And they didn't want
to sell them for nothing.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
But I don't understand holding on to him at that position,
because that's not a long I mean, Jermaine Johnson, I
understand hold on to the ends. But you know, if you.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Want to talk about teams pushing their chips to the
center of the table, Matt, I think that's certainly what
the Indianapolis Colts did earlier today.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Yeah, you start there.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Let's start there because I think, I mean, that was
the first move that came across the timeline as well
to chronological order. Wow, the Steelers really sent the Colts
into panic mode.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
That's a funny side story for you. The Colts traded
for Sauce Garner, one of the biggest name cornerbacks in
the National Football League, for two first round picks. The
Jets get each of the colts next two first rounders,
so twenty twenty six, twenty seven, and wide receiver A. D. Mitchell,
who we discussed a little bit on the show last week,
was kind of the odd man, not a nobody, though

(15:16):
he's not a nobody, right, I'd take him here.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Oh so real quick on Mitchell, I alon'st spend too
much time on him, but everyone knows I broadcast from
the draft live and when the Zach Frasier pick popped up,
we always talk about, like who would you take right
now if you're on the clock, And everyone in the
room that I was on the air with was like, oh,
Fraser's there. We were holding our breath the whole time.
I'm hoping to get there. Yes, But then the immediate

(15:40):
question is, because we need to talk about other stuff,
is if he wasn't there, who would be your pick?
And I was ad Mitchell, you know, I mean like
he's a big, very talented downfield threat that might even
start for the Jets today. But he's got some knucklehead
to him too. I mean he did in Texas and
he's the one that like dropped the ball all going

(16:00):
into the end zone and highly inconsistent. But if you're
the Jets, I'll take a chance on him opposite Garrett
Wilson and maybe I hit you know, if he's a
throw in on the deal. He yeah, because frankly, I
think two first for Sauce as too much as it is,
I think so too. Yeah, he's a good player.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
He's a very good, good player, very good player. But
that's that's Michael Parsons type. Yeah, right, right right, you know,
that's two for K and his prime type trade conversation.
Most of the.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Time in history, the team getting the player gets the
short end of the stick when it's all said and done,
and I don't think that'll be true with Parsons, but
I think he might be the exception. And one of
them was like Jamal Adams, you know, going to Seattle.
I mean like, yeah, I mean there's a couple of
them that like, whoa what were you thinking? Mark Cooper
was one of them, you know. So if I'm the Jets,
I'm thrilled about it. And with all respect the Coltsweet

(16:49):
did power ranks. They probably won't pick thirty, thirty one,
thirty two. I don't think they'll pick twenty. They'll probably
be twenty six something like that, you know, and you
get the year after that, but who knows who the
quarterback is. I mean, they could easily fall back to
They're not the Bills of the Chiefs, where you know
they're going to pick in the top five their last five.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Of every drave basically yeah, for the next as long
as they have Mahomes Josh Allen next decade.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Like, if we're doing this one year from today, the
Colts might be twelfth in the power ranks or twentieth.
I mean that's not crazy. So you know, that's a
good team to pick up first for this is noteworthy
and it's actually kind of true. The money matters, Like
nobody thinks about that stuff. Is Sauce worth a two
or two? First? I don't think he is. But we

(17:34):
also discussed heavily going into the Colts week that the
weakest position on the Colts was corner and they spent
money there on ward. Who's been out and they were
such a vanilla cover three type of team years before.
They want to be man coverage corners based. So this
is really a great fit for what they're doing. But

(17:55):
I do think they overspent. But why I brought up
the money is the Jets signed Sauce this offseason, so
all his all his uh bonus money came out of
the Jets pocket. Yes, so the big stuff financially, Thanks
New York. Therefore, will give you a.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Little bit more, you know, it makes sense.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
You know, you can't forget about that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
We'll give up maybe a little more draft capital, but.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
We won't because it doesn't kill our capital.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
We won't be on the hook for as much compensation.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Financial really happy with He's gonna be happy for years.
We don't have to worry about it for a while.
You did that work for us. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
It's a it's a big move for the colts man.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Big move for the that's right.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
That's a Barry Bonds swinging for the fences type right there. Uh,
and certainly one that we will keep an eye on
and it will be a storyline down the stretch here.
But much like Billy Mays. But wait, there's more. I
had to think of the famous infomercial guy. Uh. The
Jets also traded probably their biggest name on defense, Las Gardner,

(19:04):
their second biggest name on defense, and Quinn Williams.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Definitely their best two guys on defense.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
To the Dallas Cowboys. Uh wow, as as Dallas makes
a big move despite losing last night on Monday Night Football,
or maybe that's the reason why the Cowboys get Quinn
Williams for this year's second round pick, next year's first
round pick.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
And well I thought it was only a first straight up.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
No, it's twenty twenty six second rounder twenty twenty seven
first rounder and defensive tackle Mazie Smith.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
So I misspoke at one point in the show. Dallas
still has two two's this year. They have theirs in
the Packers. Okay, so they gave up their two this year, gotcha,
and they'd already given up their three to the Steelers
for pickings. What okay, So I'm just trying to keep track.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah, just keep tracking. That's right, It's right.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
I don't have a first a year from now, so
maybe they're two nos. I mean, we'll get talk about
this close to the draft. But if you don't have
a first two years from now and you don't need
a quarterback, maybe you're gonna move back and try to
pick up the future first. What something good to say?

Speaker 2 (20:14):
According to Adam Schefter, the terms of that trade the
Jets in twenty twenty seven, they will get from the
Cowboys the higher of their two first round draft picks.
So whether it's THEIRS or Green Bay, oh okay, the
Jets get whoever ends up being higher next.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Year, whatever's better.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Yes, good for the Jets.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I mean, Jet's got a lot back for two players.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
And Matt Jets draft picks for the next two years,
next two drafts twenty first twenty twenty six. They have
THEIRS and the Colts first rounders. They have THEIRS in
Dallas's second rounders. So they got four picks next or
this year in the first two rounds.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Probably all in the top fifty.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yes, yeah, twenty twenty seven, three first round picks right now, THEIRS,
Dallas's and Indyes.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Wow, Now it could end.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Up being the Packers one that way.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
But they give and they'll have a ton of cap space.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
I mean, you got Williams off the books, you got
Sauce off the books. You don't have that many other
huge contracts anyway, so you should be able to be
buyers in free agency too.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
They saved, according to Schefter here nearly twenty four million
dollars in cap space. Twenty three point seven million.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Okay, and that's probably just off this year's cap let
alone next year's and all that stuff too. Now they
don't have any good players or a quarterback, you know,
like they might right right right, they might have an
O line and Garrett Wilson, you know, is building blocks.
I'm gonna go back to the Cowboys and come back
to the jetson I don't hate it for the Cowboys.
That's more than I thought they gave up. I thought

(21:40):
they gave up their first this year, straight up for Williams,
and it was more than that because of two and
it's a one. But he's pretty awesome.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
And he's very good.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
He's very good. And I don't think any of these
guys are close to Micah Parsons, but Ezerique their second
round pick from Boston College last night. Their edge guys
aren't bad, Fouler. They've got like three or four dudes
on the edge, none of whom are Parsons. But they're
all quality, young, talented players. And now you put Clark

(22:12):
connects to Quinn in you know, they got Clark in
the Micah deal, It's like, okay, I mean, now that's
a very respectable front. And Williams is pretty awesome, so
I get that. And their run defense is terrible too,
and you.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Know, yeah, it's a lot, but it's a lot, it is.
But it's also I don't I don't know what the
Cowboys are doing. I know we say that a lot.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
But I think they want to be in the news
all the time. They just I think they value the
value of the franchise and the brand, no doubt more
above everything.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
It's like they just collect football cards. Yeah, it's like
they're not actually trying to build a team, They're just
trying to collect football card.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Le's just be relevant in the news all the time.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
My goodness, how nice to be the Philadelphia Eagles in
that division.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
It's like, yeah, come to think of it, like Washington
was scary for about five minutes. Dallas ten's always screwed up,
the Giants always.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
The Giants were scary for about five seconds. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Yeah. But back to the Jets, speaking of which, do
we have any faith that they're going to do the
right thing with these resources? Though? I mean history shows
the answer is no. It's kind of like when the
Browns have a million picks, right, Okay, I mean that
I love the approach, Like if the Steelers ever gotten
that situation, which has never happened in.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
My life, yeah, hopefully it won't, I would.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Trust, Or if the Eagles ever gotten that situation, if
they had that many picks, would be like, oh look out.
But I've seen this story with the Jets and Browns
with this many picks, and they never do that with
I mean, they don't Win.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
I've seen this fish before. Yeaham, yes, yeats, I did.
I didn't feel like they're.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Gonna trade them all for Johnny Manziel. You know what
I mean?

Speaker 2 (23:50):
You know what I mean, trade them all for Arch Manning. Yeah, exactly,
although he's looked a little bit better the last couple weeks.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
We'll talk more about tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
We'll talk a little bit more about that tomorrow. I yeah,
I again, if you would have told me today when
I when we woke up, the Jets are going to
trade two big pieces, I said, Oh, Breeshaw and Garrett
Wilson have a new home.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Yeah. I never thought Gardner be won.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Five years old, who got his contract? Right?

Speaker 3 (24:19):
We just gave him huge signing.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
But Quinn Williams isn't quite that young. But he's also
not long in.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
The tooth yet he's in his prime.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
He's right in his prime. And man, though, yeah, just
it's it is, it's surprising. It's it's very surprising from Dallas.
Is again, I don't want to keep going back to Dallas.
But if you look at it in the big picture
of things, did they really get that much for Michael Parsons.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
I mean, like I was thinking that too, Clark and
Willy you got you got two defensive defensive tackles basically,
so we'll just say that the Future first got you Williams. Yes,
but you had to give up Parsons in this year's
two for Clark Quinn packers first this year, and I

(25:04):
think I'm missing something, maybe not maybe not pretty close.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
I wonder if I can find I'm sure somebody out
here is put together.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
All because they got to first and Clark one of
those first went for Williams the Future one. Yes, so yeah,
I think I think I down. Did I think you
got two defensive tackles in green Bays first this year
for Parsons Now, Quinn's worth a lot, Clark's older, Qu's

(25:33):
worth a.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Lot, Quinn's worth a lot.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Yeah, yes, would you do Quinn in a late one
for Parsons though, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Probably not. I would have just never never model Parsons
months ago and never.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Had in the summer, would never had been.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Never exactly right, wouldn't even had had that conversation.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
I am completely special. I'm a big queen Williams.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Sam, I am too, and you were. You were very
clear about that heading into this. He's an opener. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
He's a top five defensive tackle.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yes, he's one of those guys who is not a
Aaron Donald destroyer of worlds, but is you know, kind
of in that next tier of.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Pro Bowl All Pro. If we were doing really who
do you pick from the Jets before Week one game,
he might have been my pick for the Steelers. Yes,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
I mean it would have been.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
It's funny because they're one of the hardest teams, because
Wilson was really fun. Sauce is really fun.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
We went in the game before the season started, we
would have been like, oh, you're good at corner.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
Probably wouldn't have, but didn't really get along right And
then Membo I probably would have went with I think
so too. Imagine put him with that the line good lord.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Good luck, run on the football. Uh, Matt, Now I
don't like this. The Jets, the Browns, the Rams, and
the Cowboys all have multiple first round picks.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Yeah, the Cowboys the only one I think that might
not be in a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
And that just depends on what happens with Dak. But
the other three absolutely.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Will absolutely and have way more firepower than the Steelers
with their extra thirds and fourth.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Yes, Now the Rams could be picking twenty ninth or
thirtieth or I mean, but the.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Falcons won't be.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
They will not.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
We might decide not to do anyth about it either, true,
maybe who knows. It seems like the year to do
it if you're them not to mention the teams that are
going to be bad, like the Raiders, the Saints that
already have that already have a top five pick. Yeah, man,
are they getting to move out of there?

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Man?

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Life comes at you fast in the National Football League,
doesn't it real quick?

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Note, I could just see the Cowboys in the nature
of that organization shopping Dak. I don't know. I wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
And again though, why do you go out and acquire
all these proven pieces? If you're gonna shop your proven quarterback?

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Probably they don't. Then yeah, maybe try to bring back Pickens.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
And I know some people will say, listen, you're never
gonna win a Super Bowl with Dak and and and
all these. I believe that, but like.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
I don't believe it's impossile. I'm not saying they will
winness it. They probably won't. He's probably gonna play five
more years, chance of.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, But absolutely, But he's good. But you're taking a
risk on someone out of college where there's no guarantees
that they're even going to be good. I don't I
don't know a lot of a lot of head scratchers
around the National Football League today.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
The quarterback landscape is really interesting right now. It is
big picture.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
I tell you what exciting day in Indianapolis, that's for sure.
They they had a rough one on Sunday, but they're
they're feeling much better today.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
They might regret it two years from now when you
have any picks for the first two rounds in the
first round. But I like the aggression.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
I do too. I do too for the Colts, and
I think.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
The Jets are made a great move. I will see
what they do with the picks. Good for the Jets
for two really good players.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yes, yes, it's like the Cleveland Browns trading down from
the second round pick last year. It's like, okay, yeah, smart,
but what are you gonna end up getting for it?

Speaker 3 (29:04):
You raid number one is great, but what do you
do with pick? Yes?

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Yes, oh, it's gonna be a lot to keep an Eyland.
I tell you what I was. I know, I've told
you this before you've met him. I think we talked
about this on the show last week. But Matt Taylor,
who's the voice of the Colts.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Oh, I go on with them every year. Yeah, we
talk it.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Every year at the combine. He's a good dude. And
so I went to you know, went to holler at
him and say hello Sunday before the game and we
were talking in their broadcast booth and he was like, Dude,
this year's been crazy. He's like, we are, like we
are trying to strike while the iron's hot. Like he's
talking to me about all these extra shows and content
things that they're doing now. They'recause everyone's all in and focused,

(29:41):
and I wonder if this is part of that too,
Like we never think about that in Pittsburgh because.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Owners think about this stuff. Owners their own passed away and.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
It's a new I mean it's it's his daughters, but
it's a new ownership group.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
They're changing at the top.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
They're like, hey, we're seven and two. We've got people's
attention now we're watched this. Yeah, get Sauce Garner and
we're really gonna have everybody.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Since Peyton and Marvin and yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Ye striking while the iron's hot like. That's not something
that the Steelers and the Packers have to think about,
but a lot of teams in the NFL do.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
It's a great point, and it'll forget their businesses.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
Absolutely, and you will, you will. We will certainly see
how that plays out for the Colts here in the
back half of the season. One more segment to go, Matt,
you want to do a little fantasy football focus when
we were to turn on the other side.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Sure, it so much doesn't matter, you know whatever, you
we do.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Do that to shut this thing down when we return
West Shooler. Matt Williamson. It is the Drive on Steelers
Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network, Your Teams.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
About Drive on your twenty four to seven home of
the Black and Goal Steelers Nation.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Radio final segment here on a different kind of Tuesday.
It's been fun reacting to the NFL trade deadline, which

(31:10):
has gotten seemingly more and more of a big deal
every single year. And hey, that's another one of those
good for business type things for the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
There are no dummies in terms of getting eyeballs and
interest on a random Tuesday in November.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I told you the NFL the NFL doesn't have much
to learn from other leagues, and but one thing that
they learned is more teams involved in the playoff picture
is good for business.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
I think they also learned, like, heyde trade deadline day
can be a big deal.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
And it correlates to your more teams evolved thing too. Yeah.
I mean, just I'm older than you guys, but I
mean MLB trade deadline is a big thing, hockey trade deadline, right,
but NFL never was until like five years ago, maybe
some random dude to get traded. Now it's like it's
all we talked about for three weeks today.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, I do. I love it though. It's so smart
for us, it's best for business. It's more content and
so it's all good in that regard.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Like it blows me away whenever our buddy's here at
the station asked me like ten years agoever, hey, you
want to do a live show on schedule release day
and you get like a week or of the content
out of schedule release day? That doesn't happen in all?

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Right? Week one the Steelers in San Francisco winter loss
in the middle of May.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
And a million people listen, you know, right, hey man?

Speaker 2 (32:29):
It is the UH. It is the United States of Football,
that is for sure, and the UH it's only that's
not going anywhere.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
And for me and you beats covering bowling or lacrosse
for a living.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
It sure does it shart us and I've had this
conversation with my wife, Matt. The NFL's next frontier is Christmas. Oh,
then the NBA owned. The NBA owned Christmas for like
a decade until the NFL like they were keep to leave,
just just grab their chain right off their neck. And Christmas.
These next upcoming years, I think it's a Thursday this

(33:02):
year and Friday then Saturday.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Then say, okay, these next couple.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Of years, the NFL is going to be loaded on Christmas.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Because it's gonna be hate it. Your wife will hate it.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Exactly right, exactly right, But it's what's best for business.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
I know we'll get the fantasy and if we don't,
don't even care. I mean, but we're I've talked so
much about how the schedule to me is going to
be eighteen games, two buys matter. Don't be shocked if there's,
oh there's a random Tuesday game, there's a Wednesday game.
Because if I get a lot of buy time. You
can squeeze those in. I'll be the next test more

(33:37):
overseas you know, like Monday, Monday people watch, I wouldn't
hate that. I wouldn't either, except I like Tuesday and
Wednesday to watch CSI with my wife or whatever.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
You know, watch the bear right, watch Game of Thrones
or whatever TV show your what TV show you sicking
your teeth into? Now, Matt Williams a.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Little short at the moment, but we started Black Rabbit
last night. I've heard kickf off. Yeah, that's next on
my Netflix. I'm finishing up Wednesday, which is the Adams
Family show. Watched that without me and liked it. I
get I think people.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Watch on our first season like the second season.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Okay, okay, I've heard good things.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
It's good though.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
But now we started a Black Rabbit last night at
like seven o'clock before an eight o'clock kickoff, and like
all my buddies, I'm intrigued.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
All my buddies have told me, I got I've got
to watch that, But I would I would sign up
for the random Tuesday or Wednesday game more than I
would for more holiday games. We've had that conversation before.
But hey, that ain't my decision to make. Unfortunately, that's
way above my pay grade.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
But to your your bottom line of the conversation is
this stuff's not slowing down, folks.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
No, no, nothing slows down this train. Walter White breaking bad. Matt.
Let's do a little fantasy football conversation before we get up.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
At some waiver wire guys.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
We want to talk about some waiver wire guys. Excuse me,
and number one has to be still only owed in
fifty two percent of the league's Sam Donald.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
That's nuts. I picked him up two weeks so.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Matt, I started him this past week.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Profit yea, yeah right. I mean there's always so many
examples every year of why you don't go for Allen
or one of these guys really high in your draft,
But you can pick up dudes like this.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
Sam Donald, Joe Flaco, JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yeah, they're they're fine. I mean, Donald to me is
an every week starter.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Is the other guy absolutely for me? Now? Yeah, yeah,
So I started in this league. I started with justin
fields and bow Knicks.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Field. You're probably pretty happy about it.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
And I've gotten a couple okay weeks out of bow
Knicks lately. But this week going against that Houston defense.
I was like, I picked up I picked up Sam
Donald last week looking ahead move. I'm glad I did,
especially now because I gotta imagine he won't be eligible
for this list probably starting next week.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
No, no, I mean he doesn't run a ton, but
you know that's obviously huge for a quarterback. But he's
not a stiff either.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
I mean he's throwing three or four touchdowns a game.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Hey, might win the MVP.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
It's crazy. Other than Sam, any other of those like
Joe Flacco, JJ McCarthy, Marcus Mariota, any of those names.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Flacco, Maybe, what's Mariota do for you? Because he does
run an interesting one. Yeah, I don't think he's particularly good,
but he's been better in Washington than he was his
last couple stops I mentioned earlier in the show. I
think their defense is quite bad and there'll be in
a lot of shootouts, and he runs. Flacco's also proven that.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
I mean, if you need somebody in a pinch, you
can do much worse.

Speaker 3 (36:39):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I mean he's not gonna run ever, but.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
So well, right, he's gonna chuck that thing, baby.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah, they're not gonna run the ball and grind out
seventeen sixteen wins in Cincinnati. No.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Absolutely not running backs here. Matt Kyle, the guy whose
last name I always struggle to pronounce. For a guy,
Manung guy owned in fifty seven percent of the leagues.
I'm actually surprised he's not over sixty percent. Yeah, Devin Singletary,
Isaiah Davis, Tank Bigsby.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
I bet Davis is on that list. With the hopes
that Hall got traded, I was thinking about. I mean,
he's a backup, and who knows how much they run
haul on the ground now too, and all might make
some businesses he might.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
I was just gonna say, he might be kind of
checked out on the rest of the year and it
would be hard.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
At all, probably be in leagues. Manung guy. To me,
they won to run the ball with a two headed
monster like that, like the Lions, but Swift was out.
They played the Bengals like if you have them, I
might shop them. It's probably the best game he's ever had.
He had like one hundred and seventy rushing yards or
something against that. Yeh yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
Wide receivers here, Alec Pierce, Trey Trey Tucker is an
interesting one now, Yeah, because that offense showed a little
sign of life.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Hmm.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Yeah, a lot of it centered around brock Bauers. But right,
I think still like.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
I when this was written, they were I hoping Meyers
got traded and he did, Yes, yes, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
Trade Tucker is an interesting one from Vegas and then
Alec Pierce obviously Tess Johnson on here as well too.
From the Bucks. They were starting to get a little
bit healthier. Yeah, won't be back.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Won't be back. I'm wondering what Godwin situation is post
By It's hard to get in there.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Tess Johnson's one I think worth keeping an eye on.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Yeah, Pierce should be in every league.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
I think so too.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Yeah, he's a little hit or miss, but I mean he's.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Only rostered in thirty eight percent right now. I I
think so.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
I think he's good offense.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Yeah, on a good offense. Yeah, particularly tight ends Matt Colson.
Lovelin's got to lead the way here, right, just twenty
eight percent rostered going into into this past week.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
After this past week, I think it's I am a
believer in a lot of these rookies getting a bump
later in the season after they kind of get their
feet under him and maybe he qualifies. I mean, yeah,
he's had a really good game.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
But yeah, how do you feel about Mason Taylor because
I know you like the player, but is there any
fantasy value in there now with the Jets kind of
abandoning ship.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
So in my main league, I used a high pick
on Kittle, who got hurt in Week one, and I
didn't draft any other tight ends because I was like,
I'm always gonna start Kittle. I'll just pick them off
the way wire for his bye week, sure, not knowing
he's gonna get hurt. Sure the second quarter of the
of the season. And then I had like chig at
kwonkwo for a week or two and like this thinks,

(39:26):
And so I picked up Taylor and kind of fell
in love with them a little bit, I mean, and
more of a player than as a fantasy player. But
he gets a high percentage of you know, the dorky
Matt stats stuff I do ralchair. Oh yeah, target share.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
That stuff really matters for fantasy fullball.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
That's where I get most of it from. You know,
it is from fantasy sites red zone targets. He's second
leading receiver on the team. Wow. So I mean it's
Wilson and then him and Wilson's been out, so they're
gonna be losing a lot. I think people can sho
away in fantasy too much from yeah, but this team stinks,
and then on a quarterback. But I'm like, yeah, but

(40:05):
all the garbage time he's gonna get against prevent defenses.
If he's the second leading target getter on the Jets,
he's worth being on your team.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Target share, man, I mean, that's that kind of suff matters, right.
They're just looking for lottery tickets, as many of them
as you can get.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
And obviously the Jets are in a youth movement. He
was their second round pick. They're gonna play him all
the time.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Totally.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
He's a good football player.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
He is. I think he's one of the more underrated
tight ends just because he's on a team that is
so bad and nobody ever watched I love.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
I mean you did.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Yeah, you talked about him a lot.

Speaker 3 (40:36):
Dad. He's a Hall of famer. I mean, like he's
got a lot going.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
For final piece of breaking news here a little bit
Matt before we call it a day. According to Ian Rapaport,
the Cardinals are name in Jacoby Brissett their starting quarterback.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
It shocks me because I bet ownership doesn't feel good
about that, just because all the money they gave Kyler.
Totally a little blurb I saw since then was there
in getting for more reports on his foot, which could
just mean like.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Convenient excuse to him to the Wolves.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
But if he doesn't move well with his size and
his skills, he's not much used to you anyways. No,
but I said last night and I said this morning
on different shows, they're better with Bersett and they're coming off.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
A win, and I think that's undeniable at this point.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
I've always been atte guy too, you have been. He's
my favorite, Batch Gradkowski, long term backup, tough guy.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
People love him, you know, played in a lot of
different systems and yeah, success doing it. No, he and hey,
if that's what the guys on the team are calling
for right now too, if Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Junior,
that's the guy they right, they know, they they absolutely know.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
Now, this doesn't mean Kyler's career with the Cardinals is over,
but it's a bit of an inkling.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
It certainly could be the beginning of the end. Yeah, certainly,
could be the beginning of the end.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
But much like the Steelers, Let's say you're the Cardinals
and you're in the quarterback market and you end up
with seventeenth pick and you don't have another first you
may not have the option to get this right six
or outfield. The bid the rams for a guy totally right.
It's real easy to say I almost get a guy
next year. Will you know? More on that tomorrow, More

(42:17):
on that tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
We will have a beefy around campus segment tomorrow. As
I think some things about this twenty twenty six college
quarterback NFL draft class are starting to become more clear
and clear, clearer and clearer, yeah, crystal clear whatever, something
along those lines. A couple names that we need to

(42:39):
subtract from that list, a couple names we need to
add to that list. We'll do that tomorrow. We'll talk
to Chris Hallick. Yeah, start to look ahead to the
Chargers a little bit.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
It's a weird day for guests for us because everyone's
kind of.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Crunching the crunching the deadline, which we understand they've got
their jobs to do as well too. But we will
get back to some of our guests tomorrow. Also, Matt
funties for you for tomorrow. I was thinking about what
to do for the Best of the West this week.
We're going to Sofi Stadium this weekend for my money,
my favorite stadium in the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (43:10):
That's funny you say that on the Best of.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
The West tomorrow. I will tell you my top ten
favorite stadiums I've ever been to. Very cool, how about that.

Speaker 3 (43:20):
So we were just talking about like TV with the
wife and all that, and my wife's usually like on
the couch next to me whenever Monday Football comes on
or whatever. And the only stadium I ever be like,
check the stadium out it is that one. It's like,
this was so cool, and she's like that looks awesome.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
It's incredible football, right, it's incredible. I had some time
to kill today, so I actually put my list together
and I'm interested. It's very high on the list.

Speaker 3 (43:44):
You've been to way more than I have.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
There's there's a one or two college football stadiums on
that list, too.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
Nice, come on, come on there one.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
I also made a clause that there couldn't be any
couldn't be any Pittsburgh, so like P and C Parks,
not on the list as much as I love PNC
park a sports anything that I've been to.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Okay, spoiler alert for you. There's a European soccer stadium
on the list as well too. It's mostly NFL stadiums
because that's the most of what I've been to, but
there's one or two college stadiums on there. There's one
or two other random things on there. It'll be a
fun conversation tomorrow. We'll do all of that and more
on a Wednesday. Thanks to our guy, mister TV Tyler v,
