Speaker 1 (00:02):
Your tunes about drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
All right, Stealer Nation, final bonus hour here for fitz
Simon's Temple Bar in downtown. Gotta love it. You people
are awesome. We're having fun. Hope you are as well too.
We're gonna be joined by a special Steelers alumni guest
here in the next fifteen to twenty minutes or so.
(00:38):
We have no idea who it is. That's the honest truth,
all right, little nerve racking as a host about to
interview somebody who you don't know who it is. But
that's all right, figure it out. We'll survive. We'll figure
it out.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Let you guys ask a question.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
That's exactly right. But let's crank it up one more time.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Here we go, Stailers, Here we go, Hey we go, Stailers.
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
All right, just just to remind everybody, right, how do
we feel about teams who wear purple? How do we
feel about teams from Ohio? There's a Cowboys fan in here.
Let's boo him too. He's a good sport. He's a
(01:22):
good sport. This is this is awesome. Thank you all
so much for being here. This is Matt and I's
final hour and then the DVE Morning Show is coming
up after us, so plenty to get to here. Uh.
How many of you all are not from the don't
well not, that's the wrong way to put it. How
many of you live somewhere else other than Pittsburgh. But
listen to all of our Steelers stuff here on. iHeart
(01:43):
SNR DVE.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Love it, love it, love it, love it.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Thank you all so much, thank you for being here
and being a part of this. This is uh, Matt,
this is fantastic manage. I don't know if I'll ever
get over this, honestly, Like people, people say the whole
trip of a lifetime thing. You hear that sterary typically,
But all right, man, if this is a trip of
a lifetime for you as well, make some noise one
last time. Gotta gotta love it. And with all apologies
(02:10):
to our friends from Texas over there, there's someone here
from Australia right now, so I think I think they
might have you beat for this, right you, champion, all
the way from all the way from Australia here as
who goes here, we go any any any place in
(02:32):
the world. That you go to, you will find a
Steelers bar, you will find Steelers fans, and wherever we go,
we are not here to take part. We are here
to take over. And that's what you all have done.
Once again, it is absolutely fantastic, Matt, as we do
turn our attention to Steelers vikings here in the final
hour of.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
The show, back down.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
To business here as well too. Uh Man, I just
I keep coming back to for the Steelers, this game
is and I know I'm not breaking any news here.
I'm not landing on the moon. This is not in
the weeds analysis. And you can say this about a
lot of games across the NFL every single week, but
I think especially this week, it begins and it ends
in the trenches. Man, for both of these teams.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
Yeah, I really think the Steeler running game is so important.
I mean, they've seen a lot of too high shelves
teams daring them to run the ball, and they still
haven't been able to do it effectively. You got to
take that personally. You've got to get better in that regard.
You got to start controlling the clock. You've got to
make things easier on your defense. You know, that's the
foundation of the offense Steve down, Yes, and that's the
(03:36):
part I mean, there's there were problem areas in week one.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
There's been problem.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
Arias in all three weeks, but that's the one I
haven't seen get better. Yeah, I mean, I think Warren's
playing fine, but overall, the Steeler running game isn't where
it needs to be, and I just haven't seen enough
glimpses that it's knocking on the door to do it.
I think the pass rush is showing up, you know,
the thing.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Defense showing up. Absolutely, I think you and I talked
about that a little. But to start the show, even
some of the areas where the Steelers are still struggling,
there's at least encouraging signs. There's a light in the tunnels,
some positivity. Except for so far that steel the one
positivity was the opening Drove and Foxborough and then it
(04:16):
kind of reverted to what we have seen the first
two weeks of the season. The Steelers have a single
high safety in the middle of the field at the
league's highest rate all over sixty eight percent of the time.
The Vikings have the league's lowest rate at twenty five
and a half percent of the time. You just reference
that is, is that a pretty big challenge for the
Steelers as well? Too? Is this is gonna be a
like you you laid out in the first hour. It's
(04:37):
not like teams are stacking the box to shut down
the Steelers run, right, They're still playing two high looks
light boxes and they're still struggling.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
Right.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
What happens when Minnesota probably not if when tomorrow they
make that a heavier box and it becomes even greater challenge.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
So to rewind a little bit, like last year, the
Seattle Seahawks really didn't run the ball well at all.
They were a really struggling offense. They moved on from Gino,
they drafted a first round offensive lineman, but they still
saw a super high percentage of two high safeties. Why
DK Metcalf correct because DK Metcalf.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Is scary down the field and everybody in.
Speaker 6 (05:13):
The league knows it. He is big and he is fast.
And I know when Russ was here, they took a
ton of deep shots. They didn't take a lot of
deep shots. They're not taking deep shots right now. I
don't know if it's protection related. I don't think it's
Rogers related. I don't think it's Metcalf related, but I
do think you need to get people out of the
box with your speed. I mean, say what you want
(05:35):
about Austin and Metcalf, They're one of the fastest pairings
in the league. I mean, just running a race straight
down the field, those two aren't going to lose to
many people. Maybe Waddle and Tyreeve. I mean, there are many.
So you have to make that speed work to your advantage.
Now back to that stat again, I've said this two
hours ago. There's a lot of different people here now
(05:56):
when you sit there in the stands tomorrow, and if
you just focus on what these defenses are doing before
the snap and especially at the snap, they couldn't be
any more different. I mean, and I mean that in
somewhat of a negative way. From the Steelers is they're
very static with a single high safety, a Cover three
show or a Cover one. And again the Vikings are
(06:20):
the total opposite. They're all over the place with pre
stat motion and corners becoming safeties, et cetera. So these
teams play so differently, and I really like the Vikings defense,
obviously I've been praising them since we've been here, but
they don't have all eleven of their guys wouldn't start
for the Steelers. You know, like if you put all
(06:40):
these players together.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Like a combined starting eleven on both sides of the ball, I.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Think you'd have more Steelers starting than Vikings, you know.
So you can't just rely on our checkers are better
than yours, you know, and sometimes you can. I mean
it's great when you can, because then you have fewer
coverage busts and things of that nature. But I would
like to see more Steeler movement, more less static Steeler.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Defense, and you know you're gonna get craziness from the.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Bikes, absolutely right, Absolutely, We'll piggybacking off of that for you.
You know, we did a little little five Star Friday
our matchup segments in the first hour to show. But
as you mentioned, there's been a lot of turnover here
in the crowd and everything since then. From a just
a name a brand name perspective, I mean, Justin Jefferson
and Jalen Ramsey is the you know, those are the
guys you put up on the on the graphic card.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, they both could have up in the Hall of
Fame one day. You know, they probably will.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
The right chance. Yeah, how often do we see that
though one on one match up? And how often should
we see that? From the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Perspective, I think a lot of it has to do
with Porter.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
If Porter's not out there, I might just say, Jalen,
you got to follow this guy around. But then the
Addison factors here now too. If he wasn't in the mix,
that would be harder. I wish I knew the answer
that question, because I don't feel like I have a
great feel for it, because Addison is scary too.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
I mean Addison.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
I think Addison's frankly a little overrated because he really
benefits from Jefferson over the last couple of years. But
he's their big play guy. When when they see one
on one with him, which happens a lot, he scores
a lot of touchdowns. You wouldn't think he'd be a
big touchdown producer because he's a smaller guy.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
He's not built like Metcalf. You know, he's not as
well rounded as.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
He's not someone you're targeting in the red zone all
the time.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
No, No, his touchdowns come from distance. So I'm sure
when they get one on one with him, they're going
to go his way, But maybe not as much if
it's Porter on him or Ramsey on him, as opposed
to I just don't think slays quite to that.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Level or Echols at this point, you know.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
So I think Porter's availability helps a lot because maybe
you say, Joey, you got Addison, Ramsey, you got the
stud and will lean some help your way. Ramsey, not
that you're worse, just as you're covered. Your assignment's brutal.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
And you know what, Matt, this is on me hand
up or vice versa.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
You know, you do the Belichick where Ramsey takes away
Addison alone totally, Porter with his size will give you
help with Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
So I think Porter's availability is really important.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I we barely mentioned this, and this is on me
in these in these now into the third hour of
the show that we're doing, but the return of the
Shawn Elliott, I think we briefly mentioned it at the
beginning of the show. He will play. He no longer
has an injury designation. It's not even that he's listed
as probable or anything like that. Now he's in Yeah,
he has no injury designation. How key of that is?
(09:30):
How big of a key is that part of me?
This game with guys like Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, the
communication that it's going to take to get everybody on
the same page against those talented eligibles, and should probably
throw in TJ. Hawkinson as well too into that.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
No question. So I think we all know Elliott's a
success story. He's good a football. We're really glad he's
a staring great signing.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
Great signing extended. You know, he's he's a foundational player.
So you know that he's good. And frankly, he's noticeably
better than Chuck Clark, that's his backup, you know, And
so of course you get a better football player on
the field. But we also know the middle of the
field has been attacked a lot against the Steelers, and
you always think the linebackers in that regard, but you
(10:11):
have to include the safeties, especially a strong safety who
might be playing man on a tight end. You know
he'll do plenty of but you touched on it. To me,
the biggest key is he's considered the quarterback of the secondary.
He's not the green doc guy that's almost always a linebacker, yeh.
But he's the communication guy. He's the best communicator. He's
(10:33):
going to make sure that everybody understands things, and we've
here heard it over and over on the south side.
We need better communication, we need better communication, and I've
been I gave him a pass because, frankly, that second
game against the Seahawks, five defensive backs played snaps that game.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
All five of them were not Steelers the week before
or the.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Year before, which is a big deal.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Which is a big deal, you know. And people will
be like, well, they weren't together.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
They're professionals, yes, but it's the second time that they've
faced live bullets and all of a sudden, Elliott was
gone and porteral gone, who at least have done this
in black and gold before. Now, I've said this all
week or for two weeks, that's not going to be
an excuse two three weeks from now or after the
bye I don't want to hear that stuff.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Anymore, you know.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
But in game two it was a reasonable not excuse.
It was a reasonable reason why there were issues. But
Elliot would sure help that. I mean, I think keep
coming back is monstrous and he's very good against the run,
no doubt. I mean this is a good running team too.
He is a good run field guy. He's a very
good tackler too. Their tackling has been bad.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
It has been has been the second highest rate of
miss tackles in the NFL through three games.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Right, and him coming back will certainly help that.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I think so too. And I think there's a big
part of listen. Micka Fitzpatrick was a big part of
this because he's such a good tackler, particularly for his position.
But the Steelers were the best in the league in
terms of of not missing tackles last year.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Right.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I know that they've had plenty of turnover on that defense,
but I don't think those guys suddenly forgot how to tackle.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
What hey, I mean Green and the guys that were
there last year that made a lot of tack.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
But the Shawn Elliott will definitely help.
Speaker 6 (12:09):
In that res absolutely, But you can't go from worse
to first, you can't, or first to worst, you can't, Right,
I mean, even again, even with the overhaul that they've
had on defense, I just don't think that that's reasonable.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yeah, plenty more to get to in our final two
segments of the show. Today, our buddy Brian Baco from
the Pittsburgh Post Gazette is going to join us We
are also anticipating a Steeler's alumni guest. We have no
idea who it is, but we've been told that they
will be on their way shortly. Well, Shuler Matt Williamson.
All right, one more time, let's make some nut. I lied,
(12:41):
I said one more time, but I'm going to continue
to do that every single segment. Obviously, as we roll
along here we are having some fun. We are live
at Fitzsimon's Temple Bar in downtown Dublin. Everyone is all
getting nice and hydrated and ready to go for tomorrow
kickoff just a little under twenty four hours away. All right,
this doesn't it old? Let's do it again for our
(13:02):
buddy Brian Baco from the Post Gazette. Here, by the way,
you should all be listening to his work. He just
got here, so we have to remind him. How do
we feel about teams who wear purple? How do we
feel about teams from Ohio?
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Here we go, Stailers, Here we go, Here we go, Stailers,
here we go, Here we go, Stailers, here we go.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
We'll continue the show on the other side West Yuler
Matt Williams and is the drive on Steelers Nation Radio.
On the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
You were tunes about Drive on your twenty four to
seven home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Down the home stretch here on the Drive, our bonus hour.
This is our pen Ull Commit segment here from Dublin
for Matt and I. But of course we've got the
DV Morning Show coming up after us. Plenty of coverage
here today and tomorrow. High a top fitz Simon's roof
Top Bar in the Temple Bar district of Dublin, Ireland.
It's our buddy Brian Bacho. He covers the Steelers for
(14:18):
the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Joining us now back go. First
time in Ireland for you as well too, I believe.
Speaker 7 (14:24):
Yeah, and first time here at Fitzsimon's Temple Bar. So
I was kind of waiting till the end of the
week to give it a shot. And yes, everything I
heard was very legit. People are ready. I kept hearing
about how they've taken over this bar and you know
this area of Dublin and it it makes a lot
of sense. Steelers fans travel well.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Of course.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
The Rudey family is deeply embedded here, of course, and
growing up my grandma had a shirt that said Pittsburgh's
a drinking town with a football problem. Nice and she
had a plaque on the wall that said winner lose,
we still booze.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yep, that's right.
Speaker 7 (14:57):
Everybody here wants to see a win. But we're also
here to do some of that as well.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Oh we absolutely are. And yeah, just give me some
of your just initial impressions first time here for all
of us you mentioned it. I mean, there is black
and gold everywhere, the bars down here in the Temple
Bar district all with you know you are with Steelers country,
and you know you're in Steelers country again. You you know,
you've been traveling and covering the team for a long
(15:22):
time now, I believe seven years, correct, that's right, So
you and I see it on the road all the time.
Steelers fans make their presence known everywhere, but we are
you know, this is a little different, nearly four thousand
miles away from Pittsburgh in a different country. I think
we all knew that it was gonna be this way,
but it's still it's impressive every single time.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And this is such a much anticipated trip.
I mean, you guys know as well as me, I
feel like people have been hearing for a while.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
There's gonna be a Dublin game. The Steelers are probably.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
Gonna be in it. When's it gonna be? Could it
be next year, the year after? And then once this
all was released, Yeah, I feel like the anticipation was palpable.
And I mean I've been doing a you know, a
lot of work and a little bit of play this week,
much like you fellas and earlier. Today was actually over
at the US ambassador residence.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
You know, Art Rooney this and Ronny.
Speaker 7 (16:13):
Was there, Roger Goodell was there, and then a few
guys you may have heard of, Ben Roethlisberger, Marquise Palty
and Night Taylor. Also we're rubbing elbows with the dignitaries.
They are the dignitaries here. So it it's been a
really absolutely, it's been a it's been a great time here.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
And you know, on one hand, it doesn't.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
Feel so much like a foreign country because of all
of these injurs uh everywhere that you look. But on
the other hand, when you do creep out a little
bit into some of the other neighborhoods and see what
Dublin has to offer, very welcoming people and a lot
and a lot of Irish folks who are kind of
like amazed by the novelty of American football coming here.
(16:53):
It's all leading up to tomorrow, which is going to
be a real scene.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
So let's get into the game a little bit.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Yeah that, I'm curious what you think will happen well,
whether play or not, and what kind of ripple effect
if Jalen Warren can't go and porter to me, those
are two guys that are critical with the.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
I don't trust the other running backs yet.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Yeah, and they got some serious weapons in terms of
wide receivers in different vikings.
Speaker 7 (17:21):
Yeah, Matt, I mean I'll start with the running back situation.
I'm not too concerned about Jaylen availability. I mean saw
him moving around at practice yesterday out at the Steelers
good hotel for the.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Week, and like we haven't been to practice, that's right.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
And we need to talk to you about that as
well too.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
You guys know the physical brand of football he plays
at that position.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
He might have been these with somebody.
Speaker 7 (17:41):
He might just be feeling it a little bit from
all the running he's done the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
His biggest workload of his life, right in.
Speaker 7 (17:47):
All the yards he's been gaining, you know, really kind
of being the only thing keeping the offensive float at
times the last couple of weeks. So I think he's
gonna be good to go.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
If he's not, I'll be honest with you, I don't
really know what they would do.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I mean, I guess maybe they just turn it all
to Caleb Johnson.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
Trey Sermon elevation, which it's it's weird being five hours
ahead of Eastern time zone right now. I don't know
when the Steelers will announce those elevations like they typically do.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
On a normal side of that.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
So maybe we see him promoted to the active roster
again for this week.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
If he's not, which you know, we'll keep checking our watches.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
If it's if it's midnight here in Dublin, I think
we'll know je Trey Sermons on the practice.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Squad for this week and two. That's a good sign
for Jaylen Warren.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
But to answer your other question, Matt, about the cornerbacks,
if Joey Porter Junior, if they continue to be cautious
with that hamstring injury, which I tend to think they will, Yes, absolutely,
I think they would turn back to a guy that
they've had a lot of confidence in really since the
early days of training camp out in Latrobe. And that's
Brandon Eccles. He went from heel to hero last week.
(18:53):
He had a couple of slip ups early in New
England when he was dressed in there, but by the end,
obviously he may to play when it comes to him
picking off that pass and he makes that game clinching
tackle on fourth down. So I think I don't think
they are just selling you a bill of goods when
they talk about liking Brandon Eckles. I think they really
do feel like if they put him out there as
a starter, maybe even a full timer.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
They'll be okay.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Albeit, like you said, a very very dangerous vikings passing time.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
No doubt real quick on Eckles.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
I mean I said earlier it might be the seventies
that their fourth corner has been as good as Brandon Eckles.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
Yeah, I have to go back and look at various rosters,
but you know clearly they have made an effort to
prioritize that position group, and not just at the top
with Jalen Ramsey, but all the way down through Darius
Slave as your other starter, and then we're seeing the
depth payoff already in somebody like Eccles who I mean,
I don't know about you, guys. He wasn't real high
(19:51):
on my radar in free agency, and even when they
signed him, I thought it was kind of more of
a special team's role or maybe some nickel but hey,
things happen fast in the NFL, and he's already, you know,
playing a ton of snaps on the outside and doing
it against the team most likely. If Joey Fort Junior's out,
it's got Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison who's fresh and ready
(20:14):
to roll.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
All of course Adam Field as well.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
So you mentioned all those let's call him talented eligibles
to use maybe a Mike Tomlin term for the Minnesota Vikings.
Matt and I were discussing in the first hour exactly
depending on how you'd rank them, but they have to
have a top three, top five skill position group in
the National Football League. I have to think everything you
just mentioned. Also added by the return of Sean Elliott,
(20:38):
no injury designation for him, good to go.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
Yeah, he looked to be moving around really well too.
Speaker 7 (20:42):
Huge development for tomorro one thing to do that in practice,
but he's got to.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Get back up the game speed of course, so we'll see.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
How big do you think that is? Again, he's there's
I think some expected time there for him to be
completely himself, but to have what he means from a
communications standpoint, to have you know how good he is
in the run game and against tight end well too,
feels like the ideal time for him to get back.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 7 (21:04):
And you know, the knee injury is going to be
one to watch with him because even if it was
feeling good and they played it safe again, it's it's
one thing to be doing it in practice, half speed whatever,
but then when Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson are stemming
at the top of their routes and getting in and
out of their breaks, you better be ready to go.
And also less, I mean with or without the Shawn Elliott,
there's a lot of moving pieces right now. It's safety.
(21:25):
I mean, you've got Chuck Clark seems to have overtaken
one Thornhill to total extent. Jabrill Peppers was in the mix
last week. It remains to be seen if that was
a sort of a one week stop gap solution against
his former team. And he could come in and play
a physical brand of football and get the ball out,
which he did, or.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
Is he actually going to be someone with a role
going forward?
Speaker 7 (21:45):
So yeah, and thorn Hill, I think I'll need some
more time to do that.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
And the other interesting thing about that is playing style wise,
I'd say Elliott and Peppers are probably the.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Two most similar, the more strong.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
So if they want to.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Go that route, you're probably gonna ask Elliott to change
his game a little bit, or you're gonna change the
way you play on the back end there. So they're
obviously exhausting all off and they've been doing that since
they traded. And think I Fitzpatrick to get Jalen Ramsey.
I think we all thought immediately. Okay, so one thorn
Hills in every down guy, then Chuck Clark joins the fold.
(22:22):
Is he gonna be the every down guy? Then Jabrill
Peppers joins the fold. So they're trying to figure it out.
It's only week.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Four and this will be a major litmus test tomorrow, no.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
Doubt, would you think of the first round pick, Harmon's
debut and the ripple effect it has on the whole
defensive front.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
Played more than I thought, And we talked to him
after the game, right right in front of the showers
in the Gillette Stadium visitors locker room.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
He was clothed, but other guys were coming in and out.
Speaker 7 (22:47):
But Derek Harmon was talking about, you know, the snap
count that he was on, and I said, I think
that was more than we all excise.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
I said, what was the snapcount? And he just kind
of smiled and didn't want to get into it. So
that makes me think they way overshot it.
Speaker 7 (23:00):
And obviously you weren't sure how many offensive plays the
Patriots were gonna run when you sort of go through
the early planning stages of the week for how much
you're comfortable with him being out there.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
But no, it looked like he came out of it fine.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
And yeah, he gave some explosiveness that I think they've
been missing. You know, everybody was talking about how his
return would help against the run.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
He's probably already their second best pass.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
Rusher among interior alignment because we just haven't seen it,
unfortunately from Keanu Beton and you know, daniel Lequalley's got
a little bit of juice, but that's not.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Really what he's known for. So other than Cam Cam Hayward.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
They need somebody else to get some pressure collapse the pocket,
and if it's not beton winning those one on ones,
maybe Harmon could be the guy.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
To do it.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
I want to stay there with you as well too.
You mentioned Cam Hayward. This is another thing that Matt
and I discussed in our Beefy three hour show today.
I think one of the more encouraging things about the
defense is how it looks like Cam is getting back
to being Cam. I think we saw glimpses of it
against Seattle and certainly to the full effect at Foxborough
last week.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
It's the motor. I mean, the motor just never stops
with him.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
And while I almost feel like, you know, the fumble
at the goal line by Ramandre Stephenson, Cam barely got
his hand in there, but to even keep poking at
it is impressive and it speaks to just the knack
for takeaways that he's got, and you know, tipping the
Sam Darnold pass, which was you know, almost completely the
(24:23):
sequel of that tipping the Drake May pass.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
I mean, he's just all over it right now.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
Getting his hands up and we see them do it
in training camp and sometimes people say, oh, well the
old lineman and they can't.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
Really block them.
Speaker 7 (24:33):
They're like, well, regardless, the Steelers defensive lineman are really
good at that, even when the O lineman can do
whatever they want. So and you talk about Cam, you know,
going back to the Ireland perspective of this game and
this trip, if anybody understands what it means to the
organization to go out there and get a win tomorrow,
it's also Big Kim, who's been here as long as anybody.
So you know, if you're expecting someone on that defense
(24:56):
to have a monster game, Cam, with that background, going
against the backup left guard who hasn't played much so.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Far this season, he might be wreaking havoc early and off.
Speaker 6 (25:05):
Of and I'm sure he's gonna let the teammates know
in the locker room. We know his power within the
locker room too.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
They're all feeling that effect that.
Speaker 7 (25:11):
You just wait now, you wonder if Cam's going to
be in there in the locker room, helmet waving.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
We can't lose, this, can't lose. We can't lose.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
Most important September game we played, bring it our most
important Week four game against an NFC opponent in a
Steelers this game last week.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
I got for you is we touched on it earlier
that I just think that we both agree that the
tight ends collectively and dk Metcalf need to show up
on the statute a little bit more.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
You know, as receivers, good things have happened when they've
gone to John new Smith.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
It's has been small sample size.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
But you know, I think that throw over the middle
last week was maybe the best dart of the day
from Rogers really, at least until the touchdown passed to
John and Austin Pat Fryarmuth. Yeah, he's still waiting on
his breakthrough game this season. And you know, I think
we knew when they made the John new Smith trade that, yeah,
there might be a little less targets to go around
(26:08):
for friar youth. But as long as though to those
two compliment each other, well you know, the soul will
be the sum will still be greater than one guy
having a huge season. So I think they're working towards that.
I think there's a lot that goes into that. Because
you do have dukil Metcalf, you.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Want to get him a lot of targets.
Speaker 7 (26:24):
Calvin Austin you've seen him pay dividends when the ball
goes his way and getting Jalen Lawren in space like
we talked about at the top.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
You know, it's been the only thing keeping this offensive
flow at times.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
So Arthur Smith, if there's one thing I'm optimistic in
for him, it's finding a way to get his tight.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
Ends more involved, more realized.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
I guess we do that before we let our buddy
Brian Becko of the Post Cazette go here. Some awesome
coverage by you this entire week.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
We got to pick your brain though about Carton House. Correct,
is that's where the Steelers have been saying.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
I'm not sure if it's a way the fine folks
of Ireland pronounce it, but it's almost like Carton House,
say so, I'm not really sure.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Like mat Matt made a joke the press conferences they
had there, it looked like the Queen was about to
speek it. You went up there paint the picture for us.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (27:10):
Yeah, so you basically turn on too, you know, a
place like this guy's. It's it's not like a lawn
or or a yard. It's the grounds you turn onto,
the estate, the Carton House, palatial you drive past the
driving range and then you find out they've got two
golf courses on the property. And basically this place just extends.
(27:30):
It's across two counties. There's obviously a few big football
fields there that the team is using to practice, so
it's almost.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
I think Nick Faribah put it from Penn Live, it's like.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
The latrobe of Dublin a little bit because they're secluded
out there.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Good golf course design.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Avoid the temptation of the big city, although I think.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Some guys have gone out and rubbed elbows a little bit,
maybe here, maybe elsewhere. But yeah, but if you don't
want to take that forty minute taxi ride into Dublin
with little time you have as a player or coach,
there's so much stuff to do at there.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Call it a hotel, really a resort. And then I
think they've got like an archery range you can go,
you can hit the golf ball around.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
I'm sure the rooms are amazing, and yeah, the press
conference room was like something you would normally have for
a wedding reception or something, and they had a little
thing behind it called like the Whiskey Library where the
players are coming in and out.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
Yeah, very unique, and assuming they.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
Make this trip again, I would assume they'll probably stay
up there again.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Yeah, and I would certainly we all think that that
is a strong possibility that this is not just a
once in a lifetime game for the Steelers. This could
be something.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
And you know what would really be ideal for them
come back here again as the road team. I don't
know if anybody would sign up for that, but then
you would still get every game.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
You still get every game.
Speaker 7 (28:51):
At Actressure, and then you'd get a game in Dublin,
which would basically be like your night.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Their ten home games furthest home game that they could
possibly play that I do well too. That makes a
lot of sense, Always making a lot of sense. It's
our buddy, Brian Baco the Postcazette. Make sure you're checking
out all of his coverage from this week. Dude, great
stuff so far. Thanks for taking the time to join
us today. We appreciate It's our guy, Brian Baco. We've
got one more segment left to go here in our
special edition of the Drive. Before we think turn things
(29:17):
over to the DVE Morning Show, West s Uler, Matt
Williamson one more time, Mick Yuhler and O Williamson will
return on the other side. It's the Drive on Steelers
Nation Radio. I'm a Steelers Audio network.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Your tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the black and goals.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Back for our final segment here at the Temple Bar
and Ben Simon's Temple Bar in downtown Dublin. And what
a better way to shut this thing down than Steeler's
legend Marquise Pouncy on location.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Whoo, everybody makes on, Let's go.
Speaker 8 (30:02):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
That's awesome, Marquise, thank you so much for doing this,
first time in Ireland for you And what's the experience
been like?
Speaker 9 (30:11):
I will say, the first time in Ireland that people
here at the hospitality, I'm blown away, right, I could
tell you one thing.
Speaker 8 (30:17):
Me and my.
Speaker 9 (30:19):
Beautiful girlfriend over here will definitely be back a lot. Man,
the people over here, the food over here, of the environment,
this is special, right, shout out to mister Roon and
everything he's built over here being then ambassador coming back
and uh, I can tell you right now, everybody in
the Pittsburgh organization they're doing it for him, right.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
You obviously knew DMR. What would this mean to him?
I mean this whole setting Croke Park tomorrow, this whole week.
Speaker 9 (30:40):
I can guarantee you DMR is looking down on us
right now. He's so proud of still the nation right now.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
I guarantee you he'll be a happy man about this
for sure.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
I'm sure you've put your shoe You're yourself in the
shoes of the of the players, you know. I bet
you'd love to put the pads on one more time
to play in a game like this. So like, what
would this mean as a player with this this kind
of environment around you?
Speaker 8 (31:01):
I wouldn't need a game plan, I wouldn't need nothing.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Yeah, you gotta be excited right for everything that Stellers
organization is built over here, everything they have done throughout
the you know, the whole entire organization with NFL. You
got to be thankful right to be a part of
these moments, to be a part of history. This is
just bigger than us at football.
Speaker 8 (31:18):
Right.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
We're over here in Ireland.
Speaker 9 (31:19):
We're over here showing out for all the amazing people
over here in Ireland and all the great people over here.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Man.
Speaker 8 (31:23):
We appreciate all you lads, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, absolutely, these people have been amazing, gracious host, It's
been incredible. Obviously, Marquise, you are a part of an
insane center lineage for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't think
a lot of fan bases appreciate offensive line playing like
the Seers, so so obviously I have to ask you.
(31:47):
We're all hopeful that the next one to that we'll
talk about like Webster and Dermani and.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
Hartings, Webster Jersey right there.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
I love Western, that's my guy.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Let's go. H is the current center, Zach Frazier your guy?
What are your thoughts on him?
Speaker 8 (32:01):
I love him. I think he's a really good player.
Speaker 9 (32:03):
There's a lot of growth in uh throughout playing through
it in the NFL, but he's attacking the right way, right.
He's a young guy that goes out there and buses,
but he's out there playing for his teammates and I
think respect right, especially being a part of the still
a nation, you know what there is all about family
and winning football games, right, and I think they followed
them old of that.
Speaker 8 (32:19):
So hopefully Zach, you know, keeps his establishing his.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Career year at the year, and I'm proud of him
for sure, led by Zach. You know, they got a
lot of high picks on that offensive line, a lot
of youth.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Are you seeing steps in the right way? You excited
about it overall?
Speaker 9 (32:34):
Yeah, I just know where they're at right now. Right
there's ups and downs where you play officeive line. Sure,
I think they're mending together very very well. But it
takes time, right and I think, you know, hopefully still
a nation gives them enough time to do that, because
I know how.
Speaker 8 (32:44):
Tough we are, right, no doubt.
Speaker 9 (32:45):
You only get a year. Yeah, you get a year
or two, and if not, then you're out the door.
But I think I think we're heading the right direction
for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Guy, obviously in your mind, you know, you played with
a future Hall of Fame quarterback and Ben Roethlisberger hall
of famer, and obviously the guy who's under center right now,
he's gonna go into the Hall of Fame pretty quickly
as well. How big of a benefit when you're a
young offensive line and young offensive line group is it
to have that signal caller behind you?
Speaker 9 (33:13):
I used to argue with my brother, it's crazy. So
we used to have this debate and he was like, man,
you don't know how good you have it right? And
I never could understand it until I didn't have it right.
And then when you don't have it, you understand, like
what significance that person had, not saying that the other
people I played with were bad at all?
Speaker 8 (33:27):
Sure, amazing.
Speaker 9 (33:28):
So it's a guy who has the it factor right
that that single throw that's falls right in the front
of his shirt and you're like, wow, how do you
do that?
Speaker 8 (33:35):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 9 (33:35):
Like, that's the guy had you know what I mean?
So he took me uneath his wings. I got very,
very lucky and blessed. And I would say this, I
am riding his wave. But it's a nice wave, that's
for sure.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
No doubt.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Did you always feel like you had a chance to
win no matter what with that guy?
Speaker 8 (33:48):
But I never pulled up to a game thing was
gonna lose.
Speaker 7 (33:50):
Yeah, Now when he wasn't there a little different feeling
slide down, you know?
Speaker 2 (34:00):
All right, Marquise, thank you for the time. What do
you say we get these people all fired up?
Speaker 9 (34:05):
Whatever y'all want, Baby, I'm here for y'all. Thank y'all
so much. Shout out to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Irish people.
Y'all are freaking amazing. Man, I will say when I'm
not home, this feels like home.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Man.
Speaker 8 (34:15):
Thank y'all so much for everything y'all done. Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Everybody all right, Marquis just got here right, so we
got to keep him up the speed on what we've
been doing. This is what we've been doing every hour.
How do we feel about teams who wear purple.
Speaker 7 (34:31):
That?
Speaker 2 (34:31):
How do we feel about teams from Ohio? Are the
Steelers gonna win tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (34:40):
There we go.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
I love that. Everybody, one last paint raised with us,
one last slaunch of cheers.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
You have made this an experience.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Here we go, Steelers, here we go, Here we go, Stealers,
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Thank you all so much.
Speaker 8 (35:05):
Appreciate you, Love y'all. Thank y'all amazing.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
From the bottom of our hearts. This has been amazing.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Cheers everybody, bring the pictures and autographs.
Speaker 8 (35:12):
I'm gonna do it. Trust me, I ain't gonna run
out here on you guys.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
I love it. Take care everybody. DV Morning Show coming
up next. We'll talk to you soon. Thank you so
much for Matt Williams and I'm West Yeuler slantcha, it's
the drive on Steelers station radio.
