Speaker 1 (00:04):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
And welcome to the Drive. It is Draft Eve.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Draft a Eve, go happy the big day. I'll be
one hundred percent honest. For much of my life, I
had a really hard time sleeping on Draft A much
harder than Christmas Eve.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
I mean, it's like an eight year old.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
And I even told my wife when I met her,
like when we were like serious, I'm like, night before
the draft on, just leave me alone. It'd be better
for you. You're not gonna want anything near me. And
I've matured since then, though, in my way, sort of
relatively speaking. Okay, well, so here we go.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Uh, let's just dive right into and we're going to the
deep end, right, We're going right into the deep end.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
You sent me your list of twenty one last night.
I sat down and did my list of top twenty
one players last night. Previously, we had sat down and
did our twenty one yeah together, and so I wanted
to take a look at this and see where we
are the same, where we differ.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
I think it's harder than any other year.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
It's ridiculously hard.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
It's really difficult, right.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I mean there's a lot of guys I like, but
I had to push them super high because there's a
lot of guys that just don't fit, you.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Know, right, That's that's the thing. And there's some positions
that are going to be drafted high in the top
eighteen picks. The edge rushers, Abdol Carter's going the edge
guy put on here. Yeah, I don't I same here.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, you know it's not they're not bad, good players,
but do I need a fourth edge?
Speaker 4 (01:42):
You know? I mean I'm going to play for you,
you know.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, So you know you got to find a place
to for these guys to play at some point. And
I'm not talking three years from now, Like it's got
to be an opening where okay you can come in
and play now not.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I mean, this isn't a big board. I mean need
it matters and fit and scheme, And.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
That's what people need to understand about the twenty one.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
We might need to lay it out.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, yes, there are going to be players who are
going to be drafted higher than the spot that we
have them on our list.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Of We fully recognize that that's that's part of the exercise, right.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
You know, we both have both tight ends, for example,
but we both have them lower.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah, I expect them to be Steelers, right, don't. You
don't expect that?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
But if something were to happen and all these players
ahead of them were gone, then they could be Steelers.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Right, You at least have to consider it. Yeah, right,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
You're not going to pass on a on a good
player just because well, we don't don't know what we're
going to do with them.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
And that's what people often don't understand, and frankly, I
don't explain it as well as I should. Is the
twenty first pick in the draft, But there's a really
good chance you're going to end up with your ninth player.
You know, we're your fifth player and maybe your fifth
player in this draft. Most drafts, I don't think you
get your fifth to one. Probably you wouldn't have last year,
right because the tackles and quarterble and whatnot. But I
(03:02):
think this draft matches up well with the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I think they've married their needs to what the draft
has available exactly exactly.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Again, they had a plan. They had a plan. I
don't know what they're don't have a plan.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
There's no plan with the Steelers, they had a plan,
they didn't they you know, they looked at this defensive
tackle draft for example, that sample, right, Why would we
spend twenty million dollars or even thirteen million dollars on
Larry Logan.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Jobi right, and we can afford to let him go.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
We can afford to let him go because this is
a great defensive line draft. We can replace him for
a much cheaper, younger, more available player, right.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
That maybe has more upside or it could be here
for ten years, right, who knows? Right, So you're gonna
get you just want to dig in.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah, I mean obviously we can nitpick over the first couple,
but they're not going to be steeled.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
We each have the same top three, we just have
them in different order.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Okay, none of what are going to be.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
You have Travis Hunter, cam Ward Ashton, genty with the
first four, Travis Hunter, cam Ward Ashton, Jenny abdul Carter. Yes,
I have cam Ward, Travis Hunter, abdul Carter. I give
word the bump because of the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Totally totally get value, totally get it, and he.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Were available, they would take him over any player in
a draft because he has a potential to be He's
the best quarterback in this He's the.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Best quarterback in the draft.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
And if they were picking with the Titans were probably
he would be the pick. I picked Hunter just because
I think he's the best prospect, and I think corner
and wide receivers in need. And if he was an
edge rusher and guard, I wouldn't be at him first.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
It is quite quite a combination. So whatever, none of
those guys are going to be Steelers.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
At five, you have Walter Nolan, which.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Is nuts because he might be there twenty one. He
might be. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
At five, I have Derek Harmon.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Okay, again, I've said this eight million times and I
probably have to. Well, I guess I am making a stand. Grant,
Nolan and Harmon, they're right here to me. Well, anyone
says Harmon separating himself for you, I think because of
his length, that's definitely one of he has.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
He has the ideal traits that you're looking for in
a three four defensive end. Yes, he is the guy
in this draft who looks the most like Cam heywardree
with that part. Whereas I like Walter Nolan he's set. Again,
he's six on my list, but he's got shorter arms
he doesn't have he's six three in change. He's not
(05:22):
he's not sick. They look at different, right, Yeah, he's
not six four plus and you know, three hundred pounds.
So that was the differing. That was the difference from me. Again,
I like both players a lot.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Yeah, I think they're really close to me.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Where we differ. You have Grant, Kenneth Grant at seven.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
He's kind of distinguished himself as my third of the three,
but he's still in the same tier to me.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
At seven and eight, I have Omari and Hampton and
Travon Henderson.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
We would differ on these the more.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I've dug in on Grant, and we've done this throughout
the process and with our with our mock drafts, he's
a nose. Yeah, he might be able to play some end.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Well, I think he's not just gonna line up over
the center, but he's not going to be Cam Heyward, right,
you know, right, right.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
So every time that we have done our mock drafts
and we've taken Kenneth Grant in the first round, we
get the rounds three and four and more like Oh,
I wish you if we hadn't taken Grant. There's these
three there. I just think the value. But if I
do it this way, if I take Hampton or Henderson,
I'm gonna like them a lot better than the third
(06:36):
or fourth round running back.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
As you're saying. As you're saying, I thought, suppose I'm
not in running backs. Don't matter person, But I just
think the finances and the scarcity.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Oh, I understand, it's all about the position they play.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
I understand. But if you get you get a and
I won't say neither one of these guys are Saquon Barkley,
right right, But if you get I can see Pro
Bowls in their free Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Right, that's the.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Thing if I can get, If I get a guy
who's going to give me fifteen hundred total yards over
the next five seasons every year.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah yeah, Yeah, that's a lot of yards, that's a
lot of touches. And they both contributed the passing game
a lot. Yeah, you know, which is if they were
just one dimensional they'd be.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
That's why I've I've moved Henderson way up in my rankings.
You know, we when we initially did our running back rankings,
I had him at number two, and then I bumped
him down to three behind Hampton because I'm like, Okay,
the size is a difference there. Hampton ran better than
I expected.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Hampton's athletics stuff, yeah, really strong too.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
But Henderson is the best pass protecting block or back
in this draft. He could he could be ah in
every down back at two hundred and eight or two
hundred and nine pounds.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
No, he's not little.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
He's really Parker sized.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah, yeah, I think he even plays bigger in terms
of every down stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
So and and I really think, you know, they want
to run more of the outside zone stuff. The guys
that they're, the guys that they've drafted on the offensive
line tell us that they want they want to get
guys out on the edge, and it's what he does
is great.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah. I'm just going to be frankly prejudiced against running backs.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
You know, And I understand that, I understand that.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Their skills or their fit because I just know I will.
I will like what's there in the third and fourth round. Oh,
I'd like it, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
But I'm gonna like the different the nose tackles too,
exactly exactly and if the nose tackle is going to
play forty percent of the time for me, but the
running back is going to play sixty, Yeah, I gotta
argue with the coaching staff too. The coaching staff is
going to go, yeah, we like we like Kenneth Grant,
but we like a bunch of these nose tackle prospects
as well, exactly. And this running back is going to
(08:47):
play a lot.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
He is, He's gonna play a lot.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Maybe he returns kicks. There's there's a lot of different
things that I can do with this guy as opposed
to a nose tackle.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
And something I've said over the last ten years too,
is I'm more apt to use a higher pick on
a back if I'm either have a rookie type quarterback
or there might be one on the.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Way, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
And I think that's a nice safety valve for a
rookie to have an outlet throw a guy that's good
in protection. I just feel happy handing him the ball
and taking a playoff and exhaling, you know, Like this
is getting to me a little bit. Let's just hand
it to our Pro Bowl back over and over. Okay,
now I got my wits about me again, you know.
But I just don't think there's many human beings like
(09:27):
Kenneth Grant work in the art. The that we've talked
to him up for two months.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I'm not saying I just like to play again. I
have him at nine, so he's still in my top ten.
After Grant, you have armand Membo.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
I went a little off the board there because I
love him. I think he's a tremendous player, and my
thoughts were, he's not gonna make it. It's not it
doesn't even matter, you know where I really put him,
but I would stick him at left guard. I don't
know what'snn happen to Isaac, but I'm just thinking you'd
have the youngest, maybe most talented, and cheapest O line.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
In the league. You know, I mean that first round
picks everywhere at.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Second round picks, and let them grow up together and
pay them all when their times come, and just have
an awesome line.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
So you have him at eight. You have Will Johnson,
the cornerback out of Michigan at nine, and Johnny Barron,
the cornerback out of Texas, and I struggled with.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Both of them.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I put Johnson over Baron just because I think he
I would rather an outside guy than an inside guy.
I understand that, but I don't love his tape from
this past year. I don't think either's going to be
there at twenty one. Again, I was a little prejudice
against running backs. I have Hampton right behind them. Yeah,
you know, where are you at? Like you're six through
(10:48):
Tennish six is No.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
One, Hampton is seven, Traveon Henderson eight, Kenneth Grant nine.
At ten, I have Schdoor Sanders.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I did it.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I think at some point point if those other options
are no longer available.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
I mean, that's what this whole exercise about. If all
those are gone, what do you do? What do you do? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Yeah, and it's very unlikely that all nine of those
guys would be gone.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Very unlikely.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
But you might trade down, though, and all of a
sudden the wrong guys fall or right, you know, right,
And that's why you do this, That's why you do this.
I don't have them that much further on the list.
I'm thirteen.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
At eleven, you have Amar and Hampton. At twelve and
thirteen you have Jlen Milroe and then Shadoor Sanders.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I know, and originally, well, I've said on the air,
I would take Milroe over Sanders for the Steelers at
twenty or wherever the pick is, it's one hundred and
twenty one, two hundred and twenty one, if they're the
two choices, with the assumption that there's a veteran and
they're gonna sit all year. I mean part of the
beauty to Sanders to me is I think he's ready
to play soon, and I don't want him to play
(11:54):
soon here, you know, And I'm swinging for the fences.
I know that's going to be an unpopular take. How
could you possible Tate mill Row over Sanders? I just
want to swing for the fences at that position. I
think I've made that clear.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I have at eleven, twelve and thirteen Will Campbell, arm
On Membo, then at thirteen and fourteen Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Which I'm about to get to some of those guys too.
It's kind of no man's land, like they have to
be on the list. Yeah, because there's a place you.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Would take them. But boy, it would be an unbelievably
unlikely scenario that they're there and your guys aren't. Right.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
I could see one of those tight ends still being
there at twenty one. Right, But the reality is is
probably three or four of the guys that we have
ahead of them on our list are also there.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yeah, but you have to respect the prospect, right, and
they are really good prospects, as.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Are Membo and you know some of these other guys.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
At fourteen, you have Treyvon Henderson.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Yeah, I have.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Hampton a smidge above them, just based on size.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Then you have Warren in Colston Loveland, which.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Won't be Steelers, but I wanted them on the list.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
At fifteen, I have Matthew Golden after Warren in Loveland.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Okay, I really shied away from the wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I kind of did too. I mean, they're way down
the list. I have Golden at fifteen, Teed McMillan at sixteen.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I have them both right next to each other, but
about five spots lower than that.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
At seventeen, I then have Johnny Baron and Will Johnson
the cornerbacks.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Okay, I feel like I have them too too high,
but I don't think corner is not a need.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I mean I just look at both of those guys,
and they were both primarily zone players in college. Will
Johnson didn't run I know, you know Baron.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Like, I don't think corner was a huge deed. But
if it was Derek Stingley, I would have them way high, right,
you know what I mean, they would be hiring the
board either. That's why Travis Hunter is it two?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, exactly, and the Steelers will primarily play him at cornerback
that's what he would do.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Absolutely, and then run some routes or yeah. Right, so
you have after, you have after after Loveland. I put
Mason Graham on the list this time, not to make
our fans happy, but I figured he could do the
ogunjobie stuff. I mean, I respect his game enough, but
he's still he would be a part time player. He'd
be a part time player, right, so he's pretty low.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I mean he'd not make my list. Okay, I have him,
and I didn't do it on purpose. I just came
up with these are twenty one players that I would take.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
I mean, he's my fourth d tackle, yeah, and I
still think the tackles. Indeed, he would be useful, but
he would not be a great fit and he would
not be an every down player.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
People would be complaining three years from now, Oh he
doesn't fit the scheme. Maybe right, right, right, Yeah, it
would be Ziggy Wood all over again. Right, he'd be
out there on nickel and dime all the time, and
that's a lot. But that's not worth a fifth pick
in the draft.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah, that's sure.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
At eighteen you have Josh Simmons, the offensive tackle from
Ohio State. Nineteen you have Will Campbell.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I have a lot of concerns about Campbell. I mean,
like I would have a really hard time taking him
at four from the Patriots. I'm not even sure he's
a great guard, but he's a good football player.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I think at twenty one he would be a steal,
but he.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Completes your line. Yeah, I mean you'd be thrilled to
have him there. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
I mean a lot of this is just how can
I go get these players on the open market? And
Simmons is a left tackle and they're super valuable at
some point.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
I would Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Then at twenty and twenty one you have Golden and
Ted McMillan. Yeah, after Baron and Johnson. For me, at
seventeen and eighteen, I have Gray's Abel, the offensive lineman State.
I'd play mc guard and I considered him be quite
happy about it. At twenty I have Trey Amos.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
I actually did thirty, not on purpose. I just wrote
down all the names that I considered, and he wasn't
far off.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Yeah, you have him at twenty six. Yeah, Amos does
play a lot of man, I don't see any holes
in his game. I don't see any holes either, and
that's why I have him as close as I do
to Baron and Will Johnson. I could see them liking
him more, and they did bring him in for a visit.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Yeah. Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
I think he's going to be a good player, and
they'd be a great number two opposite port or at
one A or whatever.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
You know. I could see the argument for him at
twenty one.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I was torn between a bunch of the other prospects,
so I put Jackson dart On there they do. I
don't see any I mean, you're never gonna get to
twenty one, never gonna get to twenty one. If you
traded back to thirty one, now, maybe that's in play.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I mean even if he took someone at twenty one
and he's sitting there at forty, I mean, some of
these names would are going to last well into the
second round. Mine just missed were Alexander and Tylee because.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
The position they play.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I love him a lot, but I don't think they're
premier prospect. Yeah, you know, you don't have They're better at.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
What they do.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
At twenty four you of Vegbuca. At twenty five you
had Luther Burden, twenty six, tray Amos as we said,
twenty seven, Chavon Ravel, twenty eight, Shamar Turner.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
He didn't make my list at all.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I just I've really liked them more and more I've
studied him. We don't talk about him a lot. Think
he's a real good fit.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
He's a nasty dude.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
I mean he plays really, really hard. I think he'd
fit in real well here twenty nine to bring him up, yeah,
Alfred Collins and then thirty Caleb Johnson. I'm Mike and
Johnson more more too. As a I think he's faster
than people think. He's got a track background that I
didn't recognize. He ran high four fives, but he runs
away from people.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Yeah. So that's our twenty ones. We sit here a
day before the draft, our final answer.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Final answer, and it was a much harder list than
most years. You know, like, I don't really love tep McMillan.
I have him twenty one, you know, like, no, not
that the first twenty are going to fall an edge
rusher will get drafted.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Yeah, they're going to be guys drafted in the forties.
I might look and go, that guy's pretty much equal player.
I've said along like Tech McMillan. Is he really that
much different than Higgins from Iowa State?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Not that much different, or Higgins might have a better career.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
He's more athletic.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
He's more athletic, and he doesn't dog it a lot.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
I mean equally there. I mean their size is almost equal.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I don't see a lot of difference there.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I don't see a massive difference between four and twenty four,
you know. I mean if if if Campbell and Mason
Graham go four and five, I don't think that.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I don't think Graham goes in the top five anymore.
I don't either. I mean, but they fall in the
top ten. I could see why.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah, I can see why both those guys. My co
host said, well, it was interesting, he said, Mason Graham
and Campbell we're basically the same guy. They're both a
little undersized for a position. They're probably safe. You won't
hate taking them, but you're not going to be thrilled.
And they're not going to be a plug and play
left tackle or dominant three technique forever. You know, like
(18:44):
they're okay, but most years they go twelve if that.
If that, yeah, I mean, I don't know what they'd go. Yeah,
that's just what this draft is. But let's get to
a break. He is the Matt Williamson. I am Dale Lallie.
You're listening to the Drive here on the Steelers Audio Network.
Matt now will be back with more right after this.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
At least.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
And we are back.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
I'm Dale Lolli. He is the Matt Williamson and Matt.
We're seeing a lot of people's final mock drafts coming
out here.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Big boards and all that. You know, you get your
final answers to the test, final answers to the test.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
And well, Charles Davis has put his out on NFL
dot Com and I don't know what to believe. And
I'm starting to get a better idea. I think some
things are starting to settle in.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Yeah, it's almost past lying season when you start to
kind of get some truths down.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Let's go through this and see as we go through
this if that would be our pick, or if we
think somebody else is going in that spot. Okay, So
one he is cam Ward, that's that's boring. Yeah, at
two he has Travis Hunter to the Browns. I think
the Browns might trade out of that spot.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Did you hear the Jerry Jones stuff? So you remember
yesterday was basically media day across the league. Well, unlike
most teams, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys also spoke.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Owner slash GM slash Grand Pooba and.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
No one's gonna tell him no, right, he can do
whatever the heck he wants. And he was he wasn't
even asked, but he said, we're working on two substantial
trades right now, like unprovoked, and now all the speculation
is they're trying to get to two to get the
UN's buddy Hunter. That's probably all smoke.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
I thought.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
He said current players.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
That was another thing that maybe they're after Tyreek Hill
or you know what I mean, Like that's but everyone's
what's Jerry mean? Who are they trading for you know,
it's weird you'd say you're in the middle of making trades.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
If you read, if you believe everything you read out there,
there's about ten teams in this draft looking to move up. Now,
if you're looking to move up, you're looking to move
up for a certain player. What you're not going to
do at this point right until you know how that
top goes.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
But you think the Browns have a chance to straight
out of there.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I think they do.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
I think it would be wise. I would get as
many picks as possible, and maybe it takes Sanders.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
If we've talked a lot about Hunter, and in theory,
Hunter sounds great. We're going to get a great wide
receiver and a great cornerback.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
But we've talked about the issues that that that runs
you into.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
And if you're said that on the air today too, if.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
You're taking him and saying, Okay, we're gonna play him,
we're gonna play for the Browns.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
He'd be a wide receiver, right.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
If we're going to take him and play him exclusively
at wide receiver and then mix in some cornerback stuff,
is he going to be happy that we're doing it enough?
Or is he going to push to play full time
both ways and we don't have a cornerback need.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Yeah, I think my exact words on the air today,
where Hunter is my number one player in this draft,
he was my number one guy in our twenty one
blah blah blah. But if I get a boatload to
get out of two and I need all kinds of.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Line, I haven't had, I have quarterback yet, I haven't
had a Day two pick. I haven't had a Day
one pick in a couple of years, and I haven't
a Round two, Day two pick in like three years,
like an early Day two pick exactly. I can use
more of those.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
As many as I can get, because I would love
to add Hunter to a team that has a pretty
good line and at least a somewhat of a quarterback,
like let's walk before.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
We can run. If you're the Browns, you know, And.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Yeah, for the Browns, it would just be more of
what they have. Okay, we got these stars and nothing
in between.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
We need some meat potatoes and a long term quarterback.
And it's a problem everyone would love to have. But
then I also get out from the problem of how
do I manage my time with this guy and get him.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
On the field too. Let's someone else deal with it
and give me a bunch of first round picks.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
At three, the Giants take Abdul Carter.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
I think those three are almost setting.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Ideally, they would be a good fit for Travis Hunter.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
They would probably much prefer Hunt, I would think.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
So, yeah, uh, would you offer something smaller to the
Browns just to swap because Carter would be found for
the Browns too. Yeah, Carter would make Carter makes more
sense for the Browns given what they're what they have
team wise, I'd think about it.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
I think Hunter's a better problem is.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Is they draft too close together the who way through
the draft, right next to each other, the Whoy three.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
You just want to both need a quarterback, and they're
both going to be kind of paddling in the same waters,
you know.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yeah, the Patriots at four take Will Campbell.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
I really dislike it, but I understand it.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
So I think they're a trade back.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
I know who wants to come up.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Well, I'll give you a couple of teams here. I
think the Raiders would like to get the four, okay,
and take Ashton Genty.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Okay, So I wanted to go down this road because
not that I'm smarter or anything, but I was. I
put genty in my market five two months ago, and
I had never seen it anywhere else. It's not like, oh,
Williams and so it's more so it's been in my
mind for a while. But I was on a Dynasty
podcast today and my co host said, isn't it odd
(24:08):
that genty all of a sudden's being linked to the Jags?
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Who could be leaking that?
Speaker 3 (24:13):
And I immediately thought the Patriots are the Jags, because
I really think sitting at four and five is terrible.
And if you think gent might go five, I want
someone to get to four. I mean, if the Patriots
leaked the genty stuff, great because I can take Campbell
at eight, or I mean maybe I can get the
(24:33):
Bears that come to four.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Maybe I get the Bears that come to five, or
Dallas genty.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
They're in the same boat. They need they need more
of everything.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah, so everyone's mocking Campbell to four, Graham to five,
which I'm not believing as much anymore. And my co
hosts like, yeah, it's like a leadoff double, that's fine.
I'm like, no, it's like getting hit by a pitch.
It's not fun walking down to first. But yeah, you're
on first with no out, but your ears are ringing
(25:01):
or your ankle hurts or something. Because they're not premier
prospect for the fourth and fifth pick in the drug.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
That's not what you want to get.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
No h.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
At five, he has astrion Gent to the Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Which I do think is potentially real. I mean it
comes from the box. Look what he got out of
Irving last year. They want to run the football job.
Number one when he was hired is get Lawrence right.
Genty would help.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
At six, he then has Jaylen Walker to the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I could see that. So one thing I wanted to
say is I just mentioned it before. I really like Membo.
If I was four, I would take Membo. If I
was five, I would take Membo if I was six.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
I can't take Membo over Campbell just because he's He's
played right tackle and I'm not taking the right tackle
in the in the I can't take a right tackle
only unless he looks like.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
I mean, I think he's similar to Tristan Wirfs. And
then just because I have Morgan Moses, he's.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
All left tack.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
That yeah, yeah, Membo can't. I mean, he's never done it.
I didn't think Latham would switch the left either. I
didn't think at least the lengths to do it right, Like,
he doesn't have the lengths to go to left tackle
and be I think he's so much better of a
prospect than Campbell. So I would take Membo.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
If I was at four, five, six or seven the Jets,
mostly because it's no man's land. I mean, I think
he's going to be a really good offensive tackle.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
At seventy Has the Jets taking Tyler Warren?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Fine, I understand it. It sounds like it's down to Membo
or Warren. Everyone's talking about the Raiders or down the
gentier Membo. Here's my issue with Warren. I'm not saying
he's a bad player, but they manufactured so many touches
for him, whether it's a direct snap or a handoff,
(26:52):
or route concepts or get the ball in his hands,
and it made them win football games.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Are the Jets gonna or whoever going to restructure their
offense around this guy? They might.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
The Raiders kind of did it with Brock Bauers.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
I say, Bowers, I think you get fource feet a
tight end.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
If Warren goes at seven or even in the top ten,
he should buy brock Bauers a Rolex and because I
don't think he's as good a prospect, but the drafts.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Line is good either, you know. And yeah, not many
top ten tight ends have made it. At eight, then
he has a Carolina Panthers taking Mason Graham. That's nice,
that makes that makes sense for them.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah, if you're if you're like eight through twelve, then
you get Graham.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Cool.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah, you could put him next to Derek Brown. Derek
Brown is going to be your massive They're so different, right, yeah, great, Yeah, fantastic.
The Saints then at nine take arm On Membo.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Okay, I get it.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
At ten, the Bears take Mikel Williams.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
I think he's gonna go high. I think he's going
top ten.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
At eleven, the forty nine Ers take Shamar Stewart.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
I can see that too. They're looking for traits. They
want big people. They're a pure four man front. They
don't want Walker yea, you know, they don't want to
two and forty pound guy.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
At twelve, the Cowboys take Tetoroa McMillan.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
That's becoming a little Chalky too. I would take Golden there,
but I could understand both cases.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
At thirteen, Will Johnson goes to Miami.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
I don't know what to do with Will Johnson. I
don't know what to do with Miami.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Well, Miami should know a lot about him.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
What's their connection? The owner is, oh, Michigan, huge doner. Yeah, yeah,
that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
At fourteen the Colts, this makes way more sense. Take
Nick Amuari, now you're talking.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Everybody and everybody in the world mocks them a tight end,
and I think it's.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Just because Walkers want to get them in the top
fifteen or whatever. I don't know that these tight ends
are well. I won't say that because I was to
say they aren't worth the high picks. I like both
players a lot, and there isn't a lot else to
pick from him, but the Colts should not go tight end.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
At fifteen, he has the Falcons taking Derek Harmon.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Wow, there's more buzz about him and Nolan going pre
twenty one.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Nolan is still there. At sixteen, the Cardinals take Jihad Campbell,
linebacker from Alabama.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
He's a perfect example of someone that didn't sniff our
top twenty one that has a very good chance to
be off the board.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Yeah, he will go somewhere in that range. At seventeen,
I mean, worry didn't make my top twenty many either. Seventeen,
the Bengals take Malachi Starks, the safety out of Georgia.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
I'd love two safeties to fall, yeah, and Jamar Stewart,
you know.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Yeah, that would make a lot of sense for the
bat Like they've been searching for that since they let
Jesse Bates walk out the door.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
I'm not saying they wouldn't make that pick, but I
bet there's no chance Watts gets past their second round.
They just hired Notre Dame defensive coordinator. He's smartest could
be Jesse Bates, you know, Like, I think they'll take
a safety high.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
At eighteen, the Seahawks take jode A Barron.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
Okay, anyone could take him, and I wouldn't bad n
eye not an I Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
At nineteen, Tampa Bay takes Donovan Azareku the address pretty early.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
But I get it, I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
He's a high character, right, No, there are no I
love Mike Green. I think Mike Green is a better
on the field player. Yeah, but there's some off the field,
stuff that I'd really have to know a lot about.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
I'm a Mike Green fan. On the field played at Marshall.
He's got short arms, and there is stuff off the field.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
You know.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
He got kicked out of Virginia for an alleged sexual
assault and then had another sexual assault charge filed against him,
right right. There are no convictions on any of this stuff,
but it's there.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Oh he went to the podium and brought it up,
you know. Yeah, or ezri.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Quez recus like right, a choir boy.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Andy's long and he's productive and right.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
At twenty the Denver Broncos take Omarion Hampton.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
I could absolutely see that. Or Henderson, I could see
him taking them back there.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Twenty one, the Pittsburgh Steelers then take Kenneth Grant. Okay,
in this scenario, I could understand Grant or Henderson.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
For me, I would take it.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Nolan, Well, Nolan the Yeah, I forgot Nolan was there,
So Nolan would be my highest rated guy that on
my board.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah, now I get it. I mean, you'd love though
all three of those options were sitting there.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Twenty two, the Chargers then take Colston Loveland, the tight
end for Michigan.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
They would love that. That still adds m Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Green Bay at twenty three takes Walter Nolan.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Okay, there's so many teams that could take him. I
don't know who will, but I could see the Niners
doing it.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
At eleven, at twenty four of the Vikings take Gray's Abel,
the offensive lineman from North Dakota State.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
I think he's going pretty high.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
At twenty five, the Texans take Matthew Golden.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
It's just almost as big as need as o.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Linon Banks is still there, though.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
There's a lot of buzz that he's gonna go hide
just because he's safe, and I think the world's come
around that he's a left tackle.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
At twenty six, the Rams take of Mecca Agbuka.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Okay, I mean, I guess Adams is older.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Twenty seven, the Ravens take Josh Simmons.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Wow, they don't need a higher left tackle. But yeah,
too good to pass up, I guess.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
At twenty eight, the Lions take Tyler Booker.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
At twenty nine, Kelvin Banks goes to the Commanders. See,
I don't see all these offensive tackles falling this far.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
It's straight for Tunsel too. Yeah. I think the o
Linemen are going to go higher. I bet Banks has gone.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
When the Steelers pick at thirty, the Bills take Maxwell Hairston,
the Kentucky quarterback.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Okay, they prefer bigger guys.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
But Kansas City takes Mike Green. He had drusher out
of Marshall.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
That could work out real well.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
They don't care about right, they don't care, and he
may have a dozen sacks for him. And at thirty two,
the Philadelphia Eagles take Mason Taylor, tight end out of Valashua.
I guess they said that three weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Yeah. I could see him going to Kansas City too. Yeah.
I think on those two picks is a.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
Possibility for sure, especially if Goddri gets traded. Yeah, which
sounds like it's possible.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
So that is Charles Davis's latest mock draft, his final
mock draft on NFL dot Com. We're gonna get to
another break. He is Matt Williamson. I'm Dale Lolly. This
is the drive on the Steelers Audio network. Matt, Now,
I'll be back with more right after this least.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven, Home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
And we are back. I'm Dale Lolli. He is the
Matt Williamson and Matt we do have some league news
happening right now.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
Oh really, yes we do.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Twenty twenty five Pro Football Hall of Fame Game will
be played between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Okay, are there Chargers or Lions going in this year?
There usually is. I don't think there's a Lion. Gates
is in. Yeah, okay, Lions, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
I can't think of any Lions they're going. It's it's
probably been a while since the Lions have played in
that game. It's an easy drive. They do like to
do that too, Like, yeah, we can get a bunch
of the Lions fans are all fired up about their team.
They'll actually drive from Detroit down.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
That is pretty close. Yeah, it was two three hours.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
And they'll fill up that stadium along with the Chargers
fans who.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Have a guy going in, have a guy going in.
Yeah yeah, Okay, that adds up then, yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Yeah, And Gates is actually kind of a local guy
because he played.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
True Kent State. Yeah too, so so maybe a weekend.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Yeah, I'm sure that's why they chose the Chargers. There
were some other players.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
Yeah, yeah, but that has sense.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
I was in here wondering originally and I didn't think
of Gates. But yeah, that that absolutely makes sense. It's
kind of a paying the butt for teams. But you
also get to the open camping week earlier. You get
one more sixty minutes extravaganza for your rookies.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
You know, So the game is set to be played
July thirty first. Typically, just doing this out of my
memory here, they'll good, as you mentioned, to camp earlier
than everybody else. But typically we're in camp for about
four or five days. Oh, you're trying to do the
(35:44):
math back, Like everybody asked me, hey when Steeler training camp? Well,
first clue has been dropped. The first clue has been dropped. Yes,
I probably guess that the Steelers opening of training camp
will happen four or five days before July thirty first.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Okay, yeah, that makes sense then, right, so their camp
will be a week before that. Yeah, okay, so somewhere
around twenty fourth, twenty fifth, twenty sixth, somewhere in there,
maybe even the twenty seventh.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
All right, cool. So there you go. Make your plans.
Make your plans now, yep. Start getting hotels booked.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
And somebody's going to book a hotel for like the
twenty fourth, and they're going to go to camp on
the twenty seventh, and they're going to be cursing us.
I'm stuck in Latrobe for four days and there's no
Steeler training camp or Mattondale.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
What have you done? Go to the golf course, go
to Sharkys warm up.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Actually, the way the the way the rules are set
up now to CBA. The first week of training camp,
it's a little it's kind of a carryover of OTAs
in mini camp. Yeah, there's no they're not in pads.
So they actually make your plans to come to training
camp after July thirty first, I say June first, August first,
(36:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, going back somewhere in that reason.
In fact, July, the Hall of Fame game earned Shriman
is August third, which I believe should be like a
Sunday something like that. The game's Thursday night. Okay, yeah,
so that Saturday or Sunday is probably the Steelers first
day in impats.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
That would make sense. So maybe that's fine for that.
That's what you're there.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
You go, that's what you want to do.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
The NFL is so great at pumping up all their events,
but like the Hall of Fame game, everyone gets so
excited about that's fun for about fifteen minutes if that.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Yeah, one fun for Sean, sweeze them. I can tell
you that.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Training camp is awesome, but the first practice or two
is not real exciting.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Yeah, it takes a while.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
The players aren't really excited to jam themselves into those little,
tiny locker rooms. I don't know if they've refurbished those things,
but the last time I was there, they can't. You're
talking about the locker room was about as big as
this room. Yeah right, small, small, and the rosters gianted. Now,
Tom Benson has spent a bunch of money to refurbish
that stadium, the owner of the oh, the Saints, the
former owner of the Saints. I think he's gone now,
(37:56):
but yeah, I think he dropped a couple million dollars
into No, I didn't know, upgrading that stadium. Still, that's
why it's Tom Benson Stadium though.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Good good for him.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Let's get to a break. Excuse me, that's gonna do
it for our number one here on the drive. We'll
be back with our number two and the Dean of
Doom nice, the Lord of living in his years, Bob
Labriola will join us next right after this
