Speaker 2 (00:40):
Good Afternoon, Steelers Nation, and welcome back to campus Saint
Vincent College and a sunny, beautiful day here in Latro, Pennsylvania.
It's time for another special three hour edition of The Drive.
West Shuler and Matt Williamson with you here high atop Chucknolefield,
where this second Saturday practice mad of this training campus
is underway and coming together here really.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Well attended by the I could yeah, so pull back curtain.
I like pull back cartain. Yeah, this is It's a
fun way to start every show. Ye yeah, payt the
picture for everybody we go on the air too. So
I usually go to lunch like as late as possible
so I can come straight. I don't go lunch to
dorm to hear so I'm hungry, hungry, hungry, and so
(01:23):
I usually go over there around one walk across campus,
come back here, and I got fifteen minutes to spare
or whatever. A wonderful lunch.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Day, outstanding shrimp poe boys. Yeah, well fund everybody in
the cafeteria.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
A plus on that. But I made the mistake because
I guess at one o'clock they open up here on
the left. Yes, they you know, they let all the
autograph seekers go that way. Yes, And I left my
dorm room at like one exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
So I was just in the her You were like
mufassa in the stampede exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah. I was just like fending for my life. Get
get back up there, and you know, like, man, there's
a ton of people, eat my lunch, come back down,
and it's hard to get help.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Probably couldn't. It probably was a pain for you to
get across the Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
So, I mean the weather is phenomenal, you know, coming
off Friday night lights. I think there's a lot of energy,
a ton of people here. I expect this to be
a pretty spirited practice. Once again, even though they're not
in Pats.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, I completely agree with you. No pads out here today.
A couple more details that will that will paint for
you as we roll along. But it is packed here today.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It really.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
The hill to our left is basically entirely covered, the
hill to our right basically entirely covered. And one one
thing that makes me laugh here, Matt and you and
I have we've kind of joked about some of this stuff,
is camp has gone along. You know, the real real
reporters and journalists that are here, they all tweet out
the same stuff at the same time. When seven Shots
is going on, you get you get a dozen of
(02:50):
them who tweet the same thing after every play when
there's bad weather, like I've laughed every the last week
when we had the couple bad weather days, every single
day when practice got caught earlier when there was weather
rolling in, like, they all take the same picture of
the weather coming in over the over the monastery, over campus,
and then you see a dozen of them tweeted out
at the same time that picture today, Matt, and I'm
gonna show you right now. Oh wow, it's the it's
(03:13):
like the it's the it's the main road down here
on campus. And all the grass that's beside it. And
I've and the picture that everybody's set out is the
amount of cars that are parked down there, and how
I don't remember, they don't remember ever being so many
cars here that they had to park people down there
on the main drag. That's an unusual scene and it's
not surprising. This is one of the highest attended weekends
(03:35):
we've talked about this. People go to Friday night lights,
they get a hotel or an airbnb or camp or
something in this area. Then you get to turnaround and
you can come to practice the next Saturday afternoon. You
can kind of double dip in that regard. It's a
beautiful day today, as we mentioned too, it's like high seventies.
It's not too hot, but it's a really nice summer
day to be outside and take some football in. And
(03:56):
so yeah, I think that has led to what is
one of the biggest crowds that we've seen here on
campus in this twenty twenty five training.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, and again I expect a ton of energy. Does
look like we have some some veterans sitting I was
going to say some notable absences. That's where I was
going next namely QB one.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
If you were hoping to see Aaron Rodgers out here today,
you're just gonna have to watch him walk around as
he is not participating.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
He's getting a veteran's day off.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, it's not wrong, but it's just I'm sure some
people are upset since it is so well attended, but
that's the way it goes. I haven't paid attention to
Cam and Watt and some of the others, but I
would be shocked if we see a lot of those
guys as well. Yeah, see them all loose back though,
say sayam Alu is back, Yeah, which is fantastic here
as Roderick Jones is out there once again as well too.
(04:41):
He's got a groin or something too, and sounds like
it wasn't his best showing last night.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, And I'm wondering on how much exactly we're going
to see a Broderick and say them all in today.
I know they're out there, but how much we will
see of them obviously to be determined.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
The last practice that was here, Broderick only did those
couple reps of seven shots and and basically shut it down.
So I mean he's he's definitely fighting through something.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
He certainly is.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
And this is the time of year where you're gonna
put caution above all else, particularly with somebody who needs
to be your left tackle for seventeen games and of
course for a regular season.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
But yeah, so, uh that was up for Dylan Cook
opens the door for Dylan Cook for for some other
guys who Hey, it's it'll be good to see them
get some reps and get some work in as well
as you're gonna need. As we've talked about many times, Uh,
some people to emerge along that offensive line.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Sounds like Stephen Jones was one of those guys.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, he's not a well known name, but I think
they have a little bit of hope for him, you
know right, I think they do.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
As he is a second year guy out of Oregon,
twenty four years old, guard on the interior. He was
one of the guys that you know this too, Like
I listen, Matt, we're here, we watch practice, but I
do this with you, like I like to pick the
brain of people that I think are people that I
know are smarter than me.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Max Starks is one of.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Those people as well too, and he came away very
impressed with Stephen Jones and thought like, hey, you know
how we've kind of been talking about for a week
out here.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
You start you need some people to emerge there in
that group, and that you know, we've been one of them. Yeah,
you've been hoping for a lineman to be one of them.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
And it sounds like, hopefully, at least maybe Stephen Jones
is taking a step in that direction as we see
him in the end zone right now working with Troy Fealtonaum.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah, I'm glad you brought that name up because there
has been a few people just mentioning him here and there,
and I keep harping on, man, I hope we don't
get too deep into this O line depth chart throughout
the course of the year. And I'm not saying he's
the next Allent Fanica, but I mean, if he can
be a quality NFL player, you got him for nothing.
I mean he's somebody to be aware.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Of, Yes, absolutely, as is.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Doug Nestor, who's standing next to him, who I was
picking Max's brain about as well too.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
He's the second year guy out of West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
He was, you know, running mates with with Zach Fraser
there in Morgantown for a while spent last year on
the practice squad.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
We see him down there as well too. You just
need somebody in that group you need Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Yeah, you mayn kind of count on her, right, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Right now, you're hoping that you can get to, you know,
the end of August and feel good about seven or
eight guys in that in that room, not just your
starting five.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
So that's something we'll continue to keep an eye on.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Again, as Matt mentioned, you're not gonna be able to
get those guys off the street, generate them. From what
you're looking at.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
There's not Amari Cooper and Gabe Davis and and and
guys like that at that position.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
And they're allowed to get better and they're gonna coach
them up, and that's why they're here, you know, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
As Matt and I will kind of do our job
and paint the picture of everything going on, But it
is once again a non padded practice, as we mentioned,
so only so much that we can deduce from that.
But it's still an important day of workout here, and
I gotta think, I don't know, I gotta think we're
gonna see some fun drills out here today with with
this crowd on hand, I gotta feel like maybe we'll
(07:49):
get some wide receiver and some defensive back one on
ones here on the main field to kind of, you know,
get the crowd go and some things like that.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
That qualifies as you can do backs on backers, but
you can do one on ones. Yeah, you know that
kind of stuff, right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Absolutely, As they will be in pads again tomorrow, which
is the good news, as we'll finally have another padded
practice to broadcast for you here at campus.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
So, by no means is that Mike Tomlin's job to
be an entertainer. He's here to coach a football team
win football games. His goal is pretty simple. That being said,
he and the organization do recognize this is a Saturday
that's packed, you know, not that they're going to do
crazy ring around the Rosie, Kansas City Chief stuff or
(08:31):
anything like that, but they probably will do a driller
two that is very crowd friendly, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yes, I believe, I believe that is a good way
to put a crowd friendly Calvini.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
I would say tomorrow is going to be a banger again,
and then you're sticking around for both they could have
a real different feel tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Absolutely, and then you have a kind of a different
week next week as well too, as you'll be heading
to Jacksonville and from.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Ye kind of a little bit of game prep.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So yeah, I think it feels like Sunday, safe to bet,
tomorrow physical practice, maybe Tuesday. Coming off the bye week,
week off the day off, I'm already getting a regular
season mode here, Matt coming off the day off physical one.
But yeah, I mean, Matt, a little over a week
from now, or exactly a week from now, we will
be in Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
I'll be getting to the stadium in Jacksonville from about Saturday.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Usually the home games I get there four, you know,
maybe four and a half hours early. Road games, I
like to go and if something goes wrong, I'm explained
exactly as you get it. It's it's it's obviously different
when you're at your home turf and all that as
in somebody else's stadium. Now, I have been to Jacksonville
Stadium before, but there's also just so I think I've
(09:47):
showed you how this sausage.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Is made, but I'm not sure, but I am curious
for the road games.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
The Steelers equipment guys are kind enough to transport our
radio Raquinness. So it's this massive. I mean I'm talking
close two hundred pounds. I mean it would be like
it'd be like trying to shoulder.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Tip a cow, you know what I mean, if you
were if we were trying to run it over and
it's on big wheels. But it's massive, it's about two
hundred pounds.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
So so they get it to where it needs to be, guys, Yeah,
they like we.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Like dan Quinlan who's our producer in Brian Lamartina. For
the away games, they take it down to the facility
every week, you know. For the home games, it just
gets brought to the stadium obviously, gotcha.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
But the equipment, guys, there's not a home run, a
home run and a road one.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Same rack, same rack all season because we share a
home booth with that university that's located in the Oakland
district that used to employ you. So unfortunately we can't
leave our stuff. We got to swap it out for
those guys.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
So I imagine most teams just leave stuff there. I
would think, just lock it, I would think. So.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
So for road games, equipment guys are kind enough to
make sure that that gets from point a Pittsburgh to
point B, Jacksonville or wherever we're at for us.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
And you're not in charge of getting on the play
lane or no.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
That's what that's the part that they.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
That they handle for us because they bring in extra
staff for that, as you could, like they bring in
moving crews to help them.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Live on the plane heavy because they're so much.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I mean, it would take them. It would take them
probably from sun up the sun down, you know, just
for the equipment staff. If they were going to load
all that stuff in themselves. Sure, so they get some
extra help, but they get it all loaded for us.
They get it off on the.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Plane, off the plane and to the stadium.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Okay, so I have to go to Like my first
thing I do for away games when I get there
is go right to our locker room.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Because the equipment they do not, which I don't. I
don't blame them for That's not your job, that's my job.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
But you just understood before I thought they got it
to the boot.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
They get it to the visitor locker room in the
bowels of insert stadium name wherever the plane. So I
have to get through security, which sometimes is easy, sometimes
takes a little while. Also find the rights. When you're
getting to a stadium five hours early, you can't just
go in wherever you want. There's usually only one gang
gate that you can get into at that time.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
So I got.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
It's just Quentland yet, our producer, Dan Quinland, and then
everybody else gets there not too far after, you know,
but we're kind of the first one, the proverbial first
ones in. So we have to get through, find the
security gate, get through security, find the visitor locker room,
get to the visitor locker room, then get the stuff
out of the visitor locker room, find an elevator that
can get us up to the press box, Get up
(12:21):
to the press box, find out which booth were in,
and then proceed to set up all of our equipment.
We've got to go down on the field and test, like.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Baltimore, cin is easier, easier now Chicago then you never
go absolutely and some of.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
The newer stadiums, like we've done Mercedes Benz, you know,
every This will be the first year in three years
I've been traveling with the team, my fourth year that
we haven't gone to Mercedes Benz because Steelers played a
regular season game there than a preseason game there, then
last year the season opener there, So like you know,
three games at Mercedes Benz.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Now I'm familiar. I know exactly the root team there
and the division games.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Absolutely Jacksonville, like I said, I've been there months before,
and I'm fortunate to have Quinlan.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
He's been doing this for like fourteen years.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
So he's probably been in just about He's been in just.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
About every building.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
But even still, you don't remember exactly right right, Like
we went.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
To we went to Sofi.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
We both went to Sofi two years ago, but since then,
you know, there's gonna be fifteen stadiums that we go
to between being there last year two years ago and
then being there again this year.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
So that's kind of it's logistics.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
So we go on air from the booth three hours
early on game days, if that makes sense. So three
hours before the game starts is when we need to
be set and ready.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
To go in the booth.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Oh okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
So that's why we get there about five hours early,
because you give yourself that you are give it. You
guys give us that hour a cover from back in
the studio before we go live in the booth.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
And so five hours.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
That gives me about a half an hour to get in,
get the stuff, get up to the booth, gives me
about an hour to set everything up, and then a
half an hour of buffer space in case something goes wrong.
That's kind of that, which, yes, I am going to
knock on wood as I say this, but fortunately, I mean,
you always have a couple of little issues, but we
haven't had any crazy, colossal problems.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
And I would think most NFL stadiums are prepared for it.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
And that's that.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Like like Dan told me that, you know, when he
first started doing it, I think in two thousand and nine.
He's like, it's come a long way even since then.
You know, in the last fourteen fifteen years of there's
set uniform standards that each team has to have.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
From you in the booth.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Somebody probably regulates it league wide and probably different if
you were like the Western Michigan chip.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Was exactly exactly right, exactly right totally, and there's you know,
there's there's dedicated tech people in the booth.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
So the one or two times that like we've gotten.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
There and there are NFL employees dedicated yeah, yeh, people
don't know about that.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Stu and you know, like like one time, I forget,
we got to one of the stadium I think it
was a preseason game, maybe in Carolina a couple of
years ago or something like that, and we're and I'm like, dan,
oh no, I'm like that, I'm getting no internet signal
here in the booth nothing. And he's like, he's like yeah,
He's like, it's first preseason game of the year. I
actual they just haven't turned it on yet. And he
like goes down the.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Hallway and comes back to switch, comes back three minutes later,
and he's like, yeah, they just had to flick a switch.
It should be good now. So most of the time
exactly like a boat or or you know what I mean.
And so sometimes there's little snaffoos like that, but most
of the time it is very smooth, very professional.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Uh as you can imagine the NFL a well oil,
there's no shoes. It shouldn't be exactly. Yeah, I mean,
it's a multi bazillion dollar operation. You can't be having
any team being hung out to drive exactly.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
And those you know, those those as much as it
is still radio in twenty twenty five, those radio sponsorship
deals are massive and large and just there's a lot
that can't go wrong there, or you're going to be
stepping on a lot of sponsors, toes and people who
have spent a lot of money to get their stuff
red and out on the air.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
So since we're going down this avenue and they're still
just just.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Warming, we'll get into practice here when we come back.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Does it ever get dicey getting everything back in the
case and where the case needs to be? Because that
that what I do know about traveling with the team.
That plane's not waiting for you, certainly not. They'll wait
for Tomlin, they'll wait for Rooney, they'll wait for Roethlisberger.
They're not waiting for you.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
That that might be about the famous time in fact,
if you recall that Antonio Brown and Lev Bell got
in trouble before a preseason.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Game, okay, and the Steelers did not wait for them.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
So if you're not waiting for me, they they certainly
are not.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
From the time that the game ends, okay, and Mike
Tomlan has shaking John Harbaugh's hand, yeah, Andy Reid's hand.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Or whoever he's gonna do a press conference.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
From that moment, really that the game ends, and the
coaches shake hands. You got about sixty minutes till the
buses leave.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Yeah, from the the final score and the you know
the broadcasts with the wide shot and there's the graphic
and there's the coaches shaking hands and all the guys
taking pictures.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Stop watch, you're a bank.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
You got about sixty minutes, and we have to stay
live on air until Mike Tomlin's press.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Conference is over, right, and you can shut everything down.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
That takes probably fifteen to twenty minutes because he's going
into the locker room talking to the guys first, you
know it.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Yeah, you do only win his press conference even at start.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Exactly right, and so it's like from the time that
that he gets to that Pody show, then we go
to you guys at the postgame show, and then it
is a mad rush. I mean, me and Quinlan and
we're like shuffling. We're like king Wolf, get out of here,
miss it, get down to the plane, you know.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
What I mean.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
And we're like shoving stuff into the crate and packing up.
And again we're a pretty well oiled machine at this point.
We've got it all down. But we we have been
we have been once or twice in uh, in three
years we have been we have been very close to
missing the buses.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
It's been like a good thing. You guys got here
when you did. We're getting ready to roll in the
next minute or two.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
That's pretty great.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
So yeah, so it's uh, it's a lot of fun.
But it can start at times.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yes, and that plane is leaving, and hey, maybe if
you know you're in somewhere like Atlanta or Charlotte or something,
it's not the worst thing in the world. But if
you're I guess, if you're out on the West coast,
or maybe somewhere like Green Bay or I don't know, Dublin, Ireland.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Although I got to imagine there'll be a little more
lenient with the time. I think we'll be a little
more leanient at the time and making sure everybody's on
the same page when we go out of the country.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
But still don't be too late, all right, They might
give you an extra minute or two, but not too much.
As Chris Boswell is smashing some long field goals in
front of us, warm up, still ongoing, stretching all that
good stuff on a great weather.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Day here, beautiful.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
This is not one where I think many guys will
have to tap out or get any rest or any
worries about extreme heat.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
This will be a fun one today.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
I'm sure they'll have the guys moving and running and
shaking no pads reminder, but we will still have our
normal practice commentary for you when we come back here.
As we roll along, things are going to start to
pick up, so we will take a break now and
and bring you all of the action here at a
beautiful day at Saint Vincent College. It's a special edition
of the Drive Well Shuoler and Matt Williamson all part
(18:51):
of our ongoing training camp coverage here on Steelers Nation
Radio on the Steelers Audio.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Network, Iheartradios. Live coverage up not twenty twenty five. Steelers
Training Camp is presented by Fadex where Now meets Next
and also brought to you by CGR Wholesale Roofing and
(19:18):
Siding Supply Center, by Tons Appliances, by Always Safe Flagging
and Traffic Control by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, by
Schneider Downs, by Hassa's Steak and Seahouse, by your Neighborhood
Ford Store, by Castle Rock, by Clearview Federal Credit Union,
and by US.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Steel practice getting going in front of us here at
Chucknolefield as we rock and we roll on a beautiful
saturday here in western Pennsylvania.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Sunny lay trobe perfect weather for a day like today.
Sun's out, but it's not too warm, just high seventies.
I don't have to worry about U.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Take this weather every day.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
I will take this weather every day. I would, Matt
if I was like master and commander of the universe.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Okay, you're right this eleven months a year, it would
be seventy seven degrees in sunny every single day with
a light little breeze. One month we would have thirty
days of extreme winner where it was just like snowed
like crazy.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
For one month December, I'd say you should move to
like San Diego, or except for that one.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Except for that one month, except for that one month
of snow. I mean, come on, it's not Christmas. It's
not the end of football season without some snow and
some weather out.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
I do like the seasons. I mean, I'm definitely a
fall autumn fan.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Same heat that could.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Do without, though, I mean the real, real hot days.
I can handle the cold fine, but you know, it
gets a little old after a while too.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
Yeah, and like you gotta like shovel the driveway.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yeah, slipping and falling on the ice in the parking lot,
parking lot at work. Not that I've ever done that before.
I mean that would be somebody much clumsier who do
something like that. But Matt, we are into some individual
periods here. Yeah, practice offensive line work.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Left and yeah, I did want to reach some people
on that.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Uh look looks like and you know this is through
our best guess and what some people on the sidelines
have reported. But Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf both getting
a Veterans Day today.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Uh T. J Watt and Cam Hayward both getting a
Veterans Day today.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Keanu Benton not out there, as are not Joey Porter Junior,
Corey Trice, Ryan McCollum, and Calvin Anderson Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Okay, Lie death getting tested a little bit, just.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
A little bit.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Calvin Anderson was injured last night at UH at Friday
night lights.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Not out there today.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Keanu Benton also didn't finish practice last night, is not
That's part of the reason why he's not out there today.
So those guys seem potentially more injury related.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
While Cam Heyward, T J. Watt, DK metcalf Aaron Rodgers all.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Getting vets days and again, Joey Porter Junior, Corey Trice Junior,
Uh not thumb.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
That's a couple of days.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Missed last night. He missed last night's practice and Mike
Tomlins said that it was more of a day to
day thing. Didn't expect it to be anything.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Serious, whereas Corey Trice uh picked up another another injury,
as uh as did Matt. I believe not out there
is uh Dante Kent, who we've discussed a few times
as well too.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
So Hey, you're getting into the what happens, You're getting
into camp.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
You have your most physical practice of the night, or
of the what is usually of the of the night.
It's the only night practice, most physical practice. A lot
of times of this entire camp slate last night, quick
turn around today, you hope a lot of this is
just maintenance stuff for those for those guys and and everything,
as Sayamalu and Roger Jones do have their helmets on
and are going there.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
They've been doing quite a bit.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
So that's good.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
This is the most I've seen Isaac, because Calvin Anderson's
out too. So there, it does create opportunity for others.
I know Jones has been nursing to groin, but I've
been trying to pay extra attention to him. He's moving
around pretty well. So all those that list of names
you mentioned, obviously four or five of them are just
veteran rest because they're veteran, yes, Rogers. I don't get
(23:07):
the impression that if this was week one, any of
them would be missing the game, agreed, you know, I mean,
they're just precaution.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Now, some of those guys who let who didn't finish
practice last night, maybe that's a different story.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Right, maybe, But I don't think any of them are
like long term or yeah right, yes, so.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Uh that's kind of I guess maybe the housekeeping of
the day that means you're gonna get more of Mason
Rudolph today. Certainly you'll get more of Will Howard today
as well too. As we see Mason Rudolph and Jalen
Warren working on some stuff in front of US defenses
on the far side of the field, Matt looks like
the lineman might be working on some some ball drills
(23:44):
down there, trying to jump on bouncing and loose Football's
linebackers working the sleds down in the end zone. So again,
it'll it'll be a lot going on here today.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Tight ends now in front of us.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
D Y is playing quarterback down there, the former Washington
then Redskins now commanders full back showing off the arm
down there. I'll tell you what director of player personnel.
He might also be in line to uh to to
give Will Howard.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
And Mason Rudolph a run for their money.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
He's a good dude. I don't know if you've ever
met that. I don't know I've ever met him before,
but he's a he's a good dude. Yeah, he played.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
He played fullback from like I want to say, twenty
ten through twenty fifteen, UH for for Washington back in
the UH the brief RG three glory days that they
had the full Yeah for that for that that one year.
But yeah, he's he's one of the guys on the
team who I see a lot on the road and
things like that. He was always a good dude and
and really nice and takes care of all those guys.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
So he's just forgtt of filling in at this point.
I mean, he's on a position.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Coach, he's not No, he's he's uh, like I don't
know if it's player personnel or player development, you know
what exactly the exact title is. But he is not
a specific coach. But you'll see him down. I mean again,
he's he played in the league for six or seven years.
You know, he's been around the team for a while.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
He's got extensive football he's got.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Extensive football background. I think the guys really trust him
and know him and everything. And like I said, he
takes care of He's one of those and this might
sound funny to some people, but you know this, like
he strikes me as one of those guys who really cares.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
About the players.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's not just here trying to advance
his own career and make a paycheck.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Like.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
He strikes me as somebody who goes above and beyond
to take care.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Of the guys, which is a lot of what the
player development is. I mean, some of that's like mental issues,
helping you find a place to live, you know, all
those type of things too, some off the field things
moving as well as hey, you know, I'm looking for
a nutritionist. You know that type of thing too, you know, absolutely,
so it's a pretty. I'm not sure they existed thirty
(25:42):
years ago on NFL teams, you know, player development guys,
but they certainly should. I was gonna mention, just to
take a quick rewind. Yeah, a lot of these position
coaches don't mind at all when one or two of
their guys are taking the day off. I mean, because
it just gives you more reps.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
I can see something divvy out.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
Yeah, but I've been wanting to, like you mentioned yesterday,
number forty, this linebacker Devin Harper. Harper, Yeah, two hundred
pounds or two hundred and thirty four pounds, six foot,
third year out of Oklahoma State. There's been a little
bit about a buzz about him now.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Suda was big up in him yesterday.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Okay, I guess he's given war in a tough time.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Yeah, little Oklahoma State on Oklahoma State crime there between
those those two former college teammates. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
So I don't think there's any off the ball linebacker
sitting today. But he's a perfect guy. Of Okay, we
have this Saturday with some people out, maybe instead of
him running with the threes, he's gonna run with the
two's or you know what I mean, And just see
how he handles it against a little bit better competition.
So that happens all the time here.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah, and like you said, even from a coaches standpoint,
that might be a good thing, you know, Yeah, yeah,
I think with the offensive line group right now, you know,
let's let's put some of these other guys to the test.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Absolutely, well, Howard's a perfect.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Well, Howard's a perfect example some of these young wide
receivers that were still hoping somebody emerges and starts to
you know, separate themselves from the rest of the group.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
And Metcalf being out leaves a major void, major for
a two hour practice.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
And as well, as we've talked about too, a lot
of we know who the guys at the top of
the pecking order are that defensive front and that defensive line.
But you've got some figuring out to do behind those guys.
No Hayward, No, Benton.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
A couple other.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Absences and injuries. Now at that point and you start
to vote that is out there today. Yes, that road
starts to narrow pretty quickly.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Man, it does, it does. And unfortunately, well fortunately at
this point knock on wood, you know, I mean that
they haven't had big injuries to sustain like, oh no,
we're getting light here, or man, we're getting hit with
a couple of injuries in the same spot. It's just
opportunities arising, you know. At this point of camp, or
we halfway.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Through camp, we are just about Yes, this is so.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
I think there's seventeen practices out here and this is
number nine, I want to say.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
So.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I think in terms of the just number, in terms
of the calendar their schedule, I think we're about halfway
through camp, but it's a lot more broken up going
forward because you have the trip to Jacksonville and all
that stuff.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
So yeah, I think in terms of practices, we are
just over halfway.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Okay, I thought we were real close, and boy that
came stuck up. Honestly, it sure did. Sometimes when you
get to practice fourteen fifteen, it's like, oh, we've been
here a while, but getting the halftime happened pretty quick.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Yeah, no, it absolutely did. And uh hey, that's how
these things tend to work.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
You know.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
The first couple of days you're like, oh, man, all right,
let's get this really going, and then all of a
sudden you're like, hey, the preseason games in the bag
and we've got our last week, you know, after we
get back from Jacksonville, we're out here for two or
three more practices and then that's it. And then they
have the closed joint practice with the Bucks at Akrocur Stadium,
and then that preseason weekend in.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
The door of the season.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Yeah, and then as I joked, you know.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
And as I joked with you, I think this was
last week or at some point during one of these shows,
like as Motes would say, trading camp isn't over all
right after that that Bus game, all right, it's just
not Probably, It's not like all of a sudden you
get past that Bucks game and it's like things are
easy now, boys, all right, we made.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
It us media folks that didn't, you know, strap on
the pads here at the trow. It's over for us
because we go home and live in normal life. But
that does not mean it's over for that.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
No, they just are not staying. They're just not staying
in the dorms and out here anymore. They're just doing
it back at the facility. And that's one of those
things like we'd always get to that like final day
of training camp, and I'd be like, you know, me,
I always try at the start of every show.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
I always like, try and come in with pissing vinegar
and you know, little energy and something, and I'd be like, no,
it's final day of camp, baby, how we feeling? It's
not the final day. It's the final day of Saint
Vincent College, but it's not the final day of camp, right.
That would always make me laugh.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Different perspective between media.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Right, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
And that's kind of how like when you hear the
way that you and I talk about Satan Vincent and
training camp, it's a little bit different than the way
that jack Ham and talk.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
About saying JackAM will never come back, never come back,
never come back, a good memory. I'm not going there.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Yeah, spent like two years of my life if you
count all the weeks there on that campus. Uh, And
I have no desire to spend any more time.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
I have plenty.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
We got some We got the quarterbacks thrown to some
tight ends and some wide receivers down the end zone,
to the right offensive line working to the left.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Defense and special teams are on the far fields.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
I do think in about five ish minutes, five to
ten minutes, we're gonna have a little seven shots action.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Man, So Let's take our break now to make sure
we're back in time for all of that, because that'll
be fun to broadcast for all of you and paint
that picture for you as we roll along, and we
will do that when we return on the drive. West Shuler,
Matt Williamson. All part of our ongoing training camp coverage.
It's happening right here on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
I Heeart Radios live coverage job about twenty twenty five
Steelers training Camp. He's presented by FedEx where Now meets Next,
and also brought to you by bud Light, Independence Health System,
by Pennsylvania One Call System, by Live Casino, Calciente Pizza
and Draft House, by Don's Appliances, South Hills Auto, Laurel,
(31:14):
Highlands Visitors Bureau, we Max Select Realty, the Pittsburgh Steelers
Pro Shop, and by the US steel.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Seven shots ongoing to our right. The third of the
seven shots coming up here now Mason Rudolph under center.
I'll tell you what happened in the first two after
we bring you live action of Rep.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Number three.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Here, Darnall Washington splits out left, Mason looking right, throwing right,
and that one off the hands of fire.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Move defended well by Cole Holcombe. Yeah, in the corner.
First rep.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Nothing really going for the offense, no great coverage coverage,
ball threw it away.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Second rep.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Really nice pitch and catch from Mason to Darnell Washington
in the back of the end zone.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
And then so little late in the down but oh no,
it was very nice. Washington's kind of streaking across parallel
to the back line of the end zone, put it
high where he goes up and got it and like
plucked it off the rim.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
You know. Yes, that's a very good analogy, something Antonio
Gates would have been proud of.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
And then the third pass falling short for fire moose.
And this is the fourth rep. Will Howard checking in
now throwing quickly to Schronic in the back of the
end zone.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
That one covered well by Beanie Bishop.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
A lot of pressure from Sawyer too, yes, Zach.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Jack Sawyer applying pressure there.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Maybe forced that out just a second earlier than half
second earlier than Will Howard wanted. And the defense able
to close down and break that one up. That will
make it three to one for the defense.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
So far. Yes, as Will Howard.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Will stay under center, or at least in the huddle,
I should say, we'll see if he's under center. Arthur
Smith gives final instruction. Will Howard breaks the huddle. He's
got Connor Hayward and Darnell Washington out there with him.
Caleb Johnson in the backfield to the right. As there's
(33:02):
motion to the left of the line of scrimmage. A
little check with me here real quick, as the offensive
line wants to make sure they are all.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
On Blitz coming here from the right side.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Ye, And Will Howard takes a snap, he wooks the left,
nice little pitch and catch there.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Well done too.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Who was that eleven?
Speaker 4 (33:23):
Was that eleven?
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (33:24):
So that's Brandon Johnson out of central field?
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Okay, yep. Real decisive by Howard though.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Very cool. Yeah, knew exactly what he was doing there.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Defense didn't ask to, didn't act too hastily and snap
it before it's ready. Held his water, But I got
the ball out apparently made some adjustment the line adjusted
for the blitz boom touchdown. Well done, you know, won
that one from the neck.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Up, absolutely so good to see the offense respawn there
after a couple of reps go the defense's way, and
we will see now Skyler Thompson for the first time
in seven shots.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
The perfect opportunity for someone else to get a shot
doing something they have and done.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Trey Sermon will be in the backfield as they are
in the shotgun Sermon to Thompson's left here as he
now sends Max Herlaman in motion from left to right.
He gets the snap he's looking left now, throws across
the middle and that one into a crowd. Tried squeezing
(34:23):
it in there to I'm eighty four eighty four, not
Cordero Patterson anymore. But that one was broken up nicely.
It looked like Killer Brew was in on that. Maybe
it was Chuck Clark as well too. I'm trying to
see there.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
That's like a perfect example though I know we'll get
to this next play. But tight window. Maybe you wouldn't
even try that in a game, but hey, I'm getting
a rep here. I'm gonna try to squeeze one in
and try to get some attention, you know, And and
the coaches probably say be aggressive, I would think so
throwing that out of the end zone doesn't do anybody right.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Right, try and make a tight window throw. Let the
defense make a play on the ball. It will be
once again, Tristan Thompson. He'll once again bring Max Hurlman
in motion, still in the shotgun. Now, hands up to
his ears, points to his offensive line. Maybe another change
here at the line of scrimmage, snap his back. He's
(35:16):
looking right looking throws to the corner and just out
of the reach of Max Hurlman.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Not so great by the offense, But defense has some
really good coverage here in these reps.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Yeah, we score that making them hold the ball.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Score that five to two for the defense.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Yeah, that's definitely a defensive win.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Yeah, I think so. I think so certainly as well.
But nice to see some other guys getting some some
some spin there.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
Yeah again, I mean, that's one of the most high
profile things they do in practice, and the meals and
the rewards reflect that. They obviously put a lot of
stock in that. So you get some dudes that are
rarely invited to that drill out there and at least
see what they can do. Yep, it's probably true in
defense too. I didn't do all the defensive personnel groupings
and who's played win and blah blah blah. But you know,
(36:00):
are we gonna get Now, let's see in front of us,
this is gonna be team maybe not, I don't know,
I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
But we got the quarterbacks, the quarterbacks, the tight ends,
and the linebackers right in front of us, which makes
me optimistic we'll get something fun to watch.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Yeah, we might have some good kind of one on
one situation here. Yeah, let's is gonna be Yeah, this
is gonna be kind of backs on backers the receiving version.
That's exactly what we've got. Mooth here line.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Uh and Mason Rudolph. No part of me will Howard
will throw that one to firemouth, just simple along the sideline.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
I'm able to close down the laid out yep, and
it looks like, well.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Look that's an interesting one. Like they pick up four
yards on the catch. Everyone's happy. It's kind of like
a neutral move like it's first and ten. Okay, we
get the second and six. Defense is fine, The offense
is fine.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
You know Kenneth Gainwell with a really nice.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Yeah, you can see start the kind of his route
running skills and set up skills. Yeah, obviously this drill
massively favors the offense total. I mean, they have the whole.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Field field to cover one guy. But a nice, nice
little stunner step there. That was himself up from Peyton
Wilson for a for a half yard.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
This is a drill. Connor Hayward does well too.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Yes, Connor Hayward is now I'm trying to see who
that is that he's going against. But he catches, Oh no,
over the middle, broken up by Cameron McCutcheon, second year
man out of Western Carolina.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
He's a name that I've seen here and there as well.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
It's that time, Matt. They got these guys got to
start making plays. You gotta get your name out there
and we'll see Mark Robinson, I think here, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Good camp?
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Yeah, he absolutely is.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Do we have the DB's and the wide receivers doing
something over here to the left or nothing?
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Crazy?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Just start to look. I can't. I think there's somehow.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Working on releases at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Yeah, I can't tell if that's I think it's gunner
punt return turned stuff.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Okay, yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
It is. It's a special team gunner getting off press
coverage drill, which you can get pretty physical, and.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
A lot of the a lot of the defenses is
sitting over on the sideline getting some water, catching a breather.
Offense is now on the far side of the field,
and we got some some special teams.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Where the edge defenders are really doing much of anything
right now.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
You know, edge defenders and defensive linemen are getting a breather.
Here as a nice catch there by Jaylen Warrens, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Good hands. Yeah, getting away from threaded that one in there.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
Getting away from Carson Brunner.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
On that round. It wasn't bad coverage either.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
It was Yeah, I thought he I thought he actually
defended that pretty well as uh, let's see here, but
we'll continue now. I thought for a second there they
kind of looked back like maybe Mason Rudolph was gonna
step in. But it looks like Will Howard will continue
to be the quarterback of this year. I'll tell you
what for Will Howard Nation. Uh, today's a good day.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
If you are. I'm sorry, Will, I did it to you.
I jinxed you. Quindel Johnson there, second year man out
of Memphis, kind.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Of slow developing route there by four Johnson or Howard
still made the throw but a nice break on the ball.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
It was it really was. I'm sorry, Will Howard Nation.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
That was my fault. That was all your fault.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
That was the curse of the commentator there is. That
was his by far, I think his worst rep of
the day here today. But he lives to fight another day.
Another buck guy now, Tray Sermon makes a nice move there,
Devin Harper in coverage guy we mentioned earlier for Yeah,
he's one that tomorrow. I think I really want to
keep an eye on good call, you know, like some
of these like him and and Stephen Jones.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
The guard Friar Muth is looking sharp. He runs a
good route there against I mean Wilson, I mean interrupt you,
but I mean a plus starting NFL tight end is
gonna be a nightmare in this drill. And that's what
is I mean, whether it's Tolcombe or Wilson or I mean,
no matter who he's going again, they're always gonna put
a better guy on him. Friar Mouth should win that
nine out of ten. And he is, yes, well said,
(39:54):
and the ball is coming out on time.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
And you know, speaking of tit ends as well too.
Haven't seen John new Smith out there?
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Uh, don't see him he's standing is that is he
standing right there talking to one Thornhill?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Actually have they have they made? Have they made nice
since there? Since their eventful practice earlier in the week.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
So maybe I'm late to the party on this, but
I mentioned when I came down from lunch, I came
down with Friar Mooth and of course the whole crowds
and right, I have something gotten some mister Williamson's my
dad here. Anyways, I came down with Mood, so you
get the big move. But right behind him was John
(40:32):
Hu and everyone went John Who. So then something to
be that said there, I'm like, I can catch on
in stadiums here, pretty good, same position, you know.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
You give just as anytime someone catches, even anytime a
tight end catches the ball.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Going right right.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
I'll tell you what. It's a heck of a legacy
that Heath Miller left. Now every tight end's name has
to be made into something that you can with us
seventy thousands of your best friends.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
That was pretty creative for them just to switch.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
That is so that is John Whu because now he's
now he's talking and we should have mentioned this too.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
The officials are out here today, Matt.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Yeah, I meant to say that too, And so.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
John Neuin and Moove picking the brain of one of
the officials. Uh so that was John Uin wan Thornhill exchange.
And I do mean it literally exchanging pleasantries in front
of us. They must they must have made up nicely
since since they're dust up the other day. Matt, We've
got just a couple of minutes till we got to
go to break. And I know that this is something
that that most people are probably familiar with, but I
(41:34):
think we get a lot of people who jump in
during training camp that aren't die hard listeners, you know,
they're just excited.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
Get haven't listened all off season.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
What's the what's what's the benefit. What's the purpose of
having the NFL officials out here today?
Speaker 3 (41:47):
I think for that reason where players can just kind
of pull them over to the side and be like yeah, yeah, yeah,
you know, or I mean, I do know. So I
had lunch with some media folks that were just coming
from an officials meeting where they were talking about and
I'm sure we'll see articles about that left and right
from Pittsburgh media that they had come to lunch a
(42:09):
little late because they were doing official meetings of These
are some of the things we're changing. These are our emphasis.
But I do think that there's a lot of on
the field stuff here. You know, would you call that
or not? You know that type of thing. We got
one on ones to the left here.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
We do have one on ones that left a nice
one handed snag there by Rock Taylor, the rookie U
d f A out of Memphis. But yeah, that's I
think that's a It makes a ton of sense. Why not,
you know, because in game the referees don't have time
to explain that stuff.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
Too, and they're not gonna be your buddy, and they're
not gonna be there gonna be your buddy.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
HRes.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Yeah, in this situation, you know, it's it's kind of
like a h it's kind of like an open study hall,
you know what I mean, like.
Speaker 4 (42:51):
Office office hours, you know exactly.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
That's a great way put type thing when you could
go in and hey, teacher, I'm kind of struggling with
this subject material.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
I've been using this hand placement. Am I cheating or not?
You're cheating, but you make get away with.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
It nice nice rep between rowan Wilson and Beanie Bishop
there just a minute ago, Robert Woods and Juan Pierre
there as well.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
As UH one wide receivers corner stuff here and.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Tight ends versus linebackers, and so it's kind of going
on on both sides of the field. But yeah, this
is I do always enjoy these type of these type
of drills as well too, as one intended for the
end zone broken up nicely and almost intercepted there by
de Shawn Jamison, second year man out.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Of getting more more rep than they know, more action
than they would.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
Good rep there by Caleb Johnson.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Yeah, it's good to see as well.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Looks like Scotty Miller is going to go up against
somebody here. I'm trying to see who that is, not
entirely sure a good rep there by Scotty Miller certainly
as smooth is going on the far side against one
thorn Hill.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Looking like he's a big time guy here.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
He is.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
He is making the most of, like you said, a
drill that if he favors, If you are a plus
tight end in the NFL, this should be your.
Speaker 4 (44:11):
Your bread and butter.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
Yep. And he's showing it chronic.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
Against Beanie Bishop here's a little size matchup. Chronic shoves
him off there a little bit. I think that was
that this physicality there, official standing.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Showing your numbers and put it right on you be big,
you know. Yep. Absolutely as Mark Robinson, nice job, Robinson
hanging with Jayleen Warrens.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yeah, he's he's another one. I like what we've seen
from him so far. Robins Mark Robinson.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Absolutely, he's gonna make him so hard to cut. I
think that's a very good way to put it back
at the ends, almost hauled in there by Lance McCutcheon
out of Montana State.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
Looks like near side here New Cordero Patterson.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
That's the thing that always throws me off the most
for a while, when is when somebody gets cut and
then somebody else immediately takes their number. You know, it's
not like them, right, Max Harlman near side going up
against Brandon Eckles.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
There, feisty little feisty battle there.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Feisty little route and little battle there as one Pierre
one Pierre James Pierre. Yeah, Yeah, it's it's Kinger did
that to me earlier in the week, and now I
can't get it out of my mind, James Pierre.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
Here, when you do that, I assume it's just some wu.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
Guiyeh, nice interception by James. Don't call him one.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Yeah yeah, broken the ball, well hold it in, nice job.
Speaker 4 (45:40):
I always assume it's some WV guys.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
I mean, sometimes that is definitely fair, but or it's
Rob King and all his dang baseball references.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
That guy. I tell you, let's see any last ones
that we can bring you.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Here.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Looks like we're gonna have a Connor Hayward on the
near side against Sebastian Castro, Roum and Wilson over here.
Speaker 4 (45:59):
That one look underthrown but still ends up in his hands.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
Yeah, you guy got lucky there. Seven team played it
well but ended up in Roman's hands.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
And a really nice route by Connor Hayward against the
rookie Sebastian Castro here on the right side, while imagine,
yeah and both you are the wide receivers make a
nice catch. All the wide receivers go crazy and give
them props. You know, James Pierre intercepted that one, and
all his defensive back brethren, you know, losing their minds
(46:27):
on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
So it is.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
It's fun it's high energy. It's a little bit of
skills competition stuff, but it is it is. It's important
as well too.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Oh yeah, these guys are really scrutinize this tape. And boy,
you're you're leaning this way, you're giving your trigger in
your route. I mean, there's a lot of things to
take away from.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
This Trey sermon with a good rep there against Devin Harper,
but the near side referee throwing a flag on that one. Yeah,
And that's another thing you'll see out here. If it's
the middle of a drill and they see something that
they would have called.
Speaker 4 (46:55):
In a game, they will, you know, defens.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Not as dramatic as they do in a game, but
they'll kind of throw the flag down and just explain
to the guys real quick, here's what we saw as.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
Uh, now there's value to it.
Speaker 4 (47:07):
Oh no, they're they're absolutely is. Kasehawn Williams and Beanie
Bishop came out on that one for a push off. Yeah,
so there's a there's an which was a.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
Warning that was about ten yards. Fie already kind of blasted.
Speaker 4 (47:18):
It's funny as Jayalen Ramsey was in that referees here, man, like, hey,
you throw the Okay, okay, you got it, you got it.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
I have not seen Ramsey out there.
Speaker 4 (47:28):
I mean he's in his helmets and his in his
in his shells, but he's I think just kind.
Speaker 3 (47:32):
Of a sweatpants.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
He's also in sweatpants.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
He's got the Mike Tomlin look going on rocking the
sweatpants out here as a Mason Rudolph will now step
in for a couple of on that one.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
Yeah, they a couple couple of plays here have been
have been blown dead as the defense. Defense is getting
a look excited, getting a little handsy.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
Yeah, having having some fun the disadvantag Yeah, they absolutely are.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Looks like this one is winding down. We're winding down
our first hour of the show. Will be back with
more in the three o'clock hour. Another nice move there
by Kenneth.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
Gainwell, Yeah, he shifts.
Speaker 4 (48:07):
You can see why he's a threat out of the backfield.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
He'll make some plays this year.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
He will definitely make some plays this year, and I
think he's gonna have an opportunity to as well.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
These guys have been around the block. You can tell
they know how to set people. You don't last as
long by action.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
No, absolutely not listen.
Speaker 2 (48:21):
You gotta be you gotta be good in practice to
be able to stick in the league for that long. Certainly,
let's get to our final break here the first hour.
Come back for hour number two. Continue to discuss everything
moving and shaking here at practice on a beautiful day
and lay Trobe on the campus of Saint Vincent College
High a top Chuck Nole Field.
Speaker 4 (48:40):
It's a special edition of the Drive.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
Another interception by Pierre there once it come out to
Jalen Ramsey has given him some serious love as he is.
He loves it like he he is a competitor man.
He just he loves the energy out here and he
brings the energy out here every single day.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
