Speaker 1 (00:04):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Welcome to the Drive. I am Dale Lolly. He is
the Matt Williamson and it is a we're dodging rain
drops here for like like the next six days.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
It appears, it sounds like it.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, ge in and out rain, rain, rain rain. I
got to hear today it hadn't rained at all at
my house. And I got like three quarters of the
way here to Bridgeville where we do the show, and
the roads are all wet, and I'm like.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Oh, okay, Yeah, I didn't really see any of the day. Yeah,
I was based on podcast. But last night it poured
for a little.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And there are still people that don't have electricity right
now all over the Pittsburgh region.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
I know we were out like twenty four hours, which
seemed like three days, but I can't imagine being out
that long, right, Yeah, if we get how much things
work off electricity in your house.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I was talking with of course, I'd run a baseball
league and umpire that kind of stuff, and I was
talking with one of my umpires. He said, why did
avella canceled yesterday because they didn't have school, right because
they don't have any electricity right now in novella.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, oh my kids haven't gone since Tuesday. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
And he's like, I don't know why they canceled the
baseball game. I get why they would do that for
high school. I'm like, well, you don't realize how much
you need electricity until you need electricity. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
It does a lot of stuff right, right, and making
matters worse for whatever reason. At our house, we don't
get cell coverage well at all. And I don't know why.
It's you know, pretty populated area, it's not the middle
of nowhere, but we need the internet to really use
our phones. So our kids when when it was down,

(01:45):
I mean the phone was a paperweight. Basically, they were
leaving the house, going anywhere they could for service. They
could books, they could read books, Yeah, surely could. But
they've been enjoying themselves.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, I'm sure they have.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
It's a time of year now that the draft is over.
And we kind of went through some stuff yesterday, rankings
and things for that for fantasy nature and futures and
things of that that nature espn Ben Solak has put
out the Rookie of the Year predictions. Yeah, the ranking
the candidates, and.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
I haven't given this any thought.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Offensive Rookie of the Year. His top four guys are
cam Ward, which makes complete sense.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Quarterbacks all the benefit of doubt. Yeah, you know what
I mean, Like Baker and Saquon were the same year,
and Baker won it. Yes, probably shouldn't have, but you
know he was the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Ashton gent is second. Let'st say he asked me right
on his heels though. But then three and four are interesting.
Tyler Shuck, which I could kind of get. Yeah, he
could be the starter. And Jackson Dart. Oh, I don't
think I can't go with Jackson Dart at all. No,
Shuck makes sense.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I think he's got to He's got a path to
starting a seventeen game starter.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Dart.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I can't imagine he's gonna play in the first month. Yeah,
I mean at a minimum and maybe deeper into it.
And maybe I'm crazy. Those are the odds on fait.
Those are the four top odds favorites. His picks are
different than that, Oh, okay, okay, boy, I would not
put any money on it.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Think they're trying to get the Giant the New York
vote or the New York money to go. Hey, Giants
drafted a quarterback. Let's put a bunch of money on that.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
How do you put him over Tet McMillan or Hunter or.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Okay, So here's the here's the list that Ben Sola
came up with.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
I like Ben's work.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Cam Ward, okay, that's fine to start in week one.
Teed McMillan ahead of Shuck.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I agree. I agree.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Travis Hunter at five sounds like he's going to be
receiver first, sounds like it.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, yeah, I would take him over McMillan, Matthew Golden
with the Packers, very possible, and Mechagg Buca with the Buccaneers.
Wonder what Godwin's ankle situation is, but they gave him money,
you know.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And then Jackson started eight. None of the running backs,
I'm gonna say I would definitely.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
I've been looking more and more into dynasty rookie ranks
and all that, so I mean, this is I'm kind
of fresh on my tip of my tongue. RJ. Harvey
to me, is running behind a good line and a
decent offense.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
That's not his final list. He was mixing things. He
was doing it first. Okay, so here's his final list.
I should have read this whole thing before I got
to it. All right, So he has Cam Woord, Ashton genty,
Omarion Hampton three.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
But that's a crowded back.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
It's a crowded backfield. And as of right now, JK.
Dobbins is there, who was pretty good last year?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
You know, then Ted McMillan, then Tyler Shuck.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Would you shuck higher? He's a quarterback? It sure helps. Yeah,
if he plays seventeen games.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Travis Hunter at six. Seven is Matthew Golden eight a
Mechagg Buca, nine Quinn Shawn Judkins, okay, ten Traveon Henderson.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Okay, I would have Harvey overall almost all those guys.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Eleven is Jackson Dart, Twelve is our J Harvey with
the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
I'm just thinking about competition for playing time.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Thirteen is Caleb Johnson.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I was thinking he should be higher too.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Fourteen is Colston Loveland. Fifteen Tyler Warren does the tight end?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Never want it?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I don't. I mean if he didn't win it last year,
if he didn't win, yeah, I didn't win it. Last year.
It's not going to be done.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Right, I mean it's hard. You're not going to have
a better year than him.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Uh sixteen Will Howard, Wow, Yeah, seventeen shardor Sanders, eighteen,
Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I was gonna ask, do you think there's any other
starting quarterbacks on Week one than Schuck or Ward? Don't?
I don't see it. Maybe in Cleveland, but I doubt it.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
If I were doing this list, let's listen. So yeah,
d would definitely be one. Him and gent Stanles Gent
would be too. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Hampton wouldn't be my three.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
He wouldn't either.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Shuck would actually be my three.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
I think it's between Shuck, Tet and Hunter.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
If if Shuck starts, think about it in terms of
he's say, if he's.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
The opening starter, that's a huge start.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Think about it. What in terms of what happened last year,
Jade Daniels was the favorite more or less after Week four.
By week four, yeah, clearly early in the season he
was a favorite. Knicks closed the gap later, but it
was still Daniels to lose because Nick started all those games.
So if Shuck starts all the games and gets better

(06:33):
as the season.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Goes on he is a Knicks like season.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Let's say he throws eighteen touchdown pass right, doesn't doesn't
stink right, right, right, He's going to be in that
conversation ahead of any of the Yeah, these other guys.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
I mean I would have him over Hampton for sure.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I think McMillan and Hunter have strong cases. It's just
I think Hunter is going to play a lot of offense.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
That's fine. Is he going to catch seventy passes? Eighty passes?

Speaker 3 (07:03):
I think Shuck would be my three as well, but
I would tier them Ward and genty tier one. McMillan, Hunter,
Shuck here two. Harvey might be in my tier too, I.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Would have I would have Judkins, Harvey, and Johnson in
the same tier and a head of Hampton because I
think there's more of a path for them to be
the true immediate Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, I mean I think that's going to be a
split backfield from the start. That's why I keep going
back to Harvey.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
I don't know what his competition is, Yeah, I mean
he's not He probably won't be the third down back,
probably not. I get the kid from Youngstown Stadium and
like they.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Still have the Notre Dame dude, who's a banger. But
I mean that's not much to be in your way. Yeah,
the tight ends, No, I just think that's such a
hard road.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
It's rookie wide receivers. Yes, we've seen a bunch come
out and play really well in recent years, but they
didn't they didn't have competition.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I'd say Abuca and Golden have a tough road. Yeah,
I like Golden's chances better. Who are some of the
other receivers that are even in the mix.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Like, Hunter's not going to be the number one receiver
on that He's gonna fight with Brian Thomas for.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Catches, I would imagine. Yeah, I mean, but I could
see seventy to eighty though it's all said and done.
That's why I probably have Tet ahead of them. That
tier two I guess i'd go shucked Tet Hunter Hunter's
highlight film.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I think I would have all those running backs, including
Hampton in that group in that tier two guys.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
I keep avoiding Judkins because I think their offense.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I think it's gonna be bad. But if he gets
two hundred and fifty carries, I will go a real
long one. Yeah, he's got to probably end up with
around one thousand yards.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
And you think Henderson out touches, not out carries, out
touches Remandre, Yes, I think he catches him.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yes, I think he does just overall because it's the
first time that Ramandra Stevenson puts the ball on the ground.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Right right, it's done. I mean they said a lot
by drafting you know Henderson.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Where they did in that group is that they're not
the ones that gave him money.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
No, right right, any other backs, I mean there's always
like one.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Away, somebody will emerge and have a few weeks here
and there. But I don't know if there's anybody that's.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
That I'm putting money on at the moment or anything.
I mean, Caleb Johnson's not terrible, a terrible bet.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
If he puts up the kind of numbers that again
they posted on ESPN earlier this week, if he has
almost one thousand yards and seven touchdown catches and twenty
to twenty five catches, he'll be in the conversation.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, so I tweeted this, let's go get the numbers right.
So so, first off, Jalen Warren in any game he's
been in, never have fifty I never had fifty percent
of the carries in any game, you know, I mean,
but just about that's on a negative. By the way, Twitter,
so dumb, put I put this Twitter, You're right, I

(10:04):
put this out. Jalen Warren has never had more than
fifty percent of the team's designated carries in a game
in his career. Why do you hate Jalen Warren so much?
I'm like, geez, it's just a fact. If you might
charge of giving out state of fact, you're hating. That's
what makes me crazy. It's like, why would you hate
on him? So I'm like, I love Jaylen Warren. I
think he's tremendous, but I don't divvy out as scaries.

(10:24):
I'm just reciting the stat But anyway, everyone knows Arthur
Smith he's had.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Like fifteen touches in a game like three times in
his career.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
His career, right, I mean, so his Arthur Smith has
had a top three in rushing attempts season in four
of his last five years. You know, his teams have
been in the top but he's been a head coach
or a coordinator, head coach, co coordinator, and his teams
have totaled five hundred plus RB touches in each of

(10:56):
the last three years, Najia Harris touched the ball two
or ninety.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Nine time, two hundred and ninety nine times.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
They are vacated. You know.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Let's say Caleb Johnson gets two hundred and seventy five
of those.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, not even all of them, no, right, Avery, but
he catches fewer balls and nause Yeah. I don't even
know him any cats.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
But he let's say he's as we think he will.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Be, fifty touches, he could be it.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
If he's more explosive, which we think he will be. Yeah,
he's gonna be. In that conversation, eight or nine touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
You know, you're probably over a thousand yards if you
have two hundred and fifty touches. Yeah, all purpose yards,
you know, And what if Warren gets dinged up if.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
He has a Tyler Algaier season of two years ago.
Two years ago, Yeah, Tyler Lger rushed for over a
thousand yards.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
He probably was fourth or fifth in the voting that year. Yeah, whatever,
you know, he wasn't far off. Yeah, but no, I
think Johnson's on a terrible bet. There's a lot of
backs that are an injury away, right, You know that
at the last ten games they could blow up.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah, and so yeah, defense, uh yeah, he did any defense. Somebody,
I'm gonna scroll the way to the bottom this time. Yeah,
you're actually gonna look at this. Those are the base
for the defensive and his picks.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
I guess Abdul Carter would be the leader in the clubhouse.
You would be wrong, Okay.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Number one for him is Mike Keel Williams with the
forty nine Ers.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I wonder what Carter will do on first and ten.
That's the question there because they get it crowded.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Yeah. Yeah, that was about to play off the ball
like Parsons, but like, yeah, we get drafted them.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
You know. Two is Jaylen Walker with the Falcons.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
It's not a bad one in a dome, you know.
I think he'll rush bath a bunch of tackles. Yeah yeah.
Michael Williams is definitely gonna be the starter opposite Bosa
and see a lot of one on ones.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Three is Abdell Carter. Okay for Shamar Stewart with the Bengals,
I don't see it that would.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Be as in this class.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Five is Maxwell Harston with the Bills. I don't know
that I see that either.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
He got picks. Yeah, that's a hard one. That's a
hard one.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
He's gonna get thrown at.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, the rookie corners get attention.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Uh. Six is Carson Swesssinger.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
With Swssinger or Campbell as an off the ball linebacker,
especially with the Browns defense on the field a lot,
you know, going back, I think their offensive, he.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Could have a bunch of tackles six yards down the field.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Seven Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
I don't know he'll get the playing time.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, I just don't know that. There's gonna be the
road to snaps there. Eight Mason Graham.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Okay, I don't see it either.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
But nine James Pierce with the Falcons.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Possibly. I might take Mike Green over a couple of those.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
It's tough for those rookies with the Ravens to get
on the field.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
I know there's more competition, but I like their chances
of winning games late and getting cheap sacks.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Ten is Walter Nolan very possible with the Cardinals. Eleven
Kenneth Grant with the Dolphins. Tough to put numbers up
at his Yeah, I don't see that. I'll play Twelve
g Hut Campbell with the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
I'm a little shock neither safety has gotten mentioned, and
I would have been higher on Campbell.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Thirteen is Johddy barn with the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
He gets hands on the ball a few times.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
He'll be on the field as a nickel.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Yeah, good pass rush.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Fourteen is Derek Harmon.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
I don't have enough snaps, but he could make an impact.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Fifteen is ty Leek Williams. That's gonna be tough.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
H Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Sixteen is Malachi Starks.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
I don't like any worry all that much, but I
think his role could be near the line of scrimmage
and trade up in the second round. I mean, if
those were like the Vegas odds and it paid huge,
I'd consider one of those safeties.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah. I mean, is Maxwell Harston clearly the best or
in the best situation of any of the defensive backs.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
You would have been eight picks lower for me. Where
he wrangs them, I'd have definitely both linebackers out of them. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Now, teams are probably gonna have to throw against the bills,
but you you could run on the bills last year
though was a thing.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yea. Yeah, that's a great point and Harriston. I don't
even know it would be my top corner, let alone
defensive back.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
It's I think if I were rating the hard, if
I were rating the defensive backs, I might have Bear
a number one.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, because he'll be very versatile, maybe as a sack
or two the.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Nerline, blitzing ther blitzing the out of the slot.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Like his chances to pick up a fumble or scoop
and score.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Back, or gonna be around the ballmore.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
We're gonna be around the Baltimore Yeah. Yeah, he might
be my number one dB.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
And I would have I would have Harmon ahead of
the nose tackle types.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Yeah. I love Grant, but that's him and Williams almost
have no chance.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
That got me to thinking the situation. I talked to
another of Derek Harmon's high school coaches yesterday and we
were we were talking, and it may started got me
to thinking about he was the Steelers target all the way.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
It sure feels that way.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Because here's what so people are wondering. When the Steelers
took yah Ya Black and said he's going to play
on the end. I think the Steelers went into this saying, Okay,
if if we have to take Kenneth Grant, Fine, we'll
take him. We want Harmon because we're gonna keep Keanu

(16:17):
Benton a nose tackle. Let him play nose tackle. He's
gonna play still play, you know, the three technique in
the in the nickel and dime and rush the passer there.
But if you took Kenneth Grant, now you're kicking Keanu
Benton out the end. Is a full time guy. You
only need one nose tackle.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I said, you know two.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Those a second, a third nose tackle. That's why they
got rid of a Yeah, all of a sudden. Okay,
we don't need Adams and we don't need three nose
tackle types. But if we were going to move Benton
to the defensive end, then yeah, then we needed to
you know.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
And I think we're all under the assumption that Black
could do it.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
He could.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah, he's just taller. He's just the leverage thing.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Could playing it with that height. But in terms of
playing defensive end for him, he's six six and he
has thirty five inch arms.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Yeah. Yeah, he's not gonna do it on third and eight, right,
but he can battle with the big tackle dependencls.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Yeah right, he can be an Aaron Smith type and
go out there and tie tie people up.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Let me just be a power player. Because we mentioned
that with Grant too, Like I didn't think Grant would
only be a nose if that was a Steelers Yeah,
but he probably would be predominantly, you know.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I just think that with Harmon, that when they got Harmon,
who was there that was their target. I think that
changed some things. I think they would have taken him
over Nolan and Grant.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
I don't mean to talk badly about Nolan because I
think he's in a phenomenal situation and I love the player,
but there was stuff. I don't know what it was,
but after the fact, it feels like the Steelers would
have taken Harmon over Grant or Nolan. Yeah, you know,
and he's super clean off the field and all that
stuff too.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Everybody I've talked to him mean I more than that.
I mean, he's the high school coach that I talked
to yesterday. Also coach Malik McDowell, who's a high draft pick. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
and he says, oh, he's better Michigan State. Yeah, you said,
he's Derek's a way better player, way better person.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Really, Okay, so I doubt didn't last.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Interesting. Those Rookie of Year honors are good stuff too.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, it gives you an idea of who might stand
out this year, who landed in the right situation.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
There might be money to be made on the defensive side.
I bet there's some long odds because there's not a
clear cut favorite.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
To me, there really is, and I think a lot
of these guys could be good this year. Who's going
to have the best year? I mean I the only
one I would cross off of there that's in the
top ten would definitely be schmar Stewart, right, I don't
see that, and I don't see Harriston being five.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
No, this position's tough. Yeah, I mean I think you
have to look at it two ways. Is who has
a real good chance to lead all rookies in sacks?
And I think that's why he went with Williams and
Walker right off the bat, which I don't guess. I
probably wouldn't argue and couldn't off the ball. Linebacker, safety
just make so many plays. You know, tackles. You know

(19:05):
there's rack up stats across the.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Bad I hate tackles. I hate tackles being counted. They're
not even an official NFL statistic, right, right, but it
is what it is. They still people look at the
gaudy tackle number. Whoh he hah, one hundred and twenty
five tackles.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Well that's inflated.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
All tackles are not created equal.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
No, like you said, if it's seventy yards down field too.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Or somebody's going to get the ball car or right.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Right, and depends on your score in that building. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Anyways, that was interesting little side trip there by Ben
Solak taking a look at those odds on those things
and coming up with his list. He is Matt Williamson.
I am Dale Lolly. You're listening to the Drive here
on the Steelers Audio Network, Matt and I'll be back
with more on the drive right after this.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
This is the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson
on your twenty four to seven home of the Black
and Gold Steelers in radio.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
And we are back. I'm Dale Lolly, he is the
Matt Williamson and Matt I wanted to take a look.
We always talk about how you can't necessarily grade a
draft until it has a few seasons under its belt.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
It properly right.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
I wanted to take a look at this from even
a different perspective. I want to take a look back
at the twenty twenty one NFL Draft. I'm looking right
now at the grades given to that that rookie class
and twenty twenty way oh no, after the first season. Okay,
so even the first season of a rookie draft can

(20:45):
look much different than it does, no doubt a few
years down the line.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
That's fair.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
This is and I'm not picking on these guys. General
Felice and Nick Schuk did this for NFL dot Com,
and they did it a year after after that first year.
So the Kansas City Chiefs got an A, got Nick Bolton,
nice Creed Humphrey. These are both second round picks. Joshua

(21:10):
can Do, Noah Gray, Cornell Pile who's a wide receiver,
and Trey Smith the guard.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
I think that ends up being an a You get
two high end starting offensive lineman and a really good linebacker. Yeah, okay,
so that that one held up. Yeah, Now, I don't
hold us against him, But the reason Trey Smith wasn't
a second round pick was because he had.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Hit The Denver Broncos got an A minus Patrick's certain
at number nine overall. They took Javonte Williams at thirty five.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Not a terrible pick, but the injury derailed him.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Quinn Miners in round three. Okay, with Baron Browning in
round three, Caden Stern's safety Jamar Johnson. Those are both
fifth round picks. Seth Williams in round six, Carrie Vincent,
Jonathan Cooper and Marquis Spencer in round seven.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Minors a certainer, two of the best in the league.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
Honestly, if you're looking at this now, I might put
that draft above Kansas City's.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Certains, the most valuable of any of them.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Cooper and Cooper and Browned two good edge guys there.
Miners is a.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
I'd take Minors over Smith, Miners or some freezer by
the tie.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah, so, I mean he came out with me.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Patrick, you got four starters and one's a defensive MVP.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Yeah. Right. Three the Dolphins got a name minus the
two first round draft picks, Jalen Waddle Jalen Phillips.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Feel bad for Phillips he kissed can't stay on the field.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
And round two they got Javon Holland.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Okay, that's a pretty good start.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
He's the perfect example of when people talk about Well,
he's not on your team anymore, so that doesn't you know,
he must have been a bust.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
He didn't extend him, so he's a bust.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
No, sometimes you just.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
Signed for like eighteen million.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yeah, right, uh, Liam Mike and Bunny right, Liam miken
bergs Hunter Long the tight end.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
It's not even with him anymore, right, he was part
of the Yeah, weirdly.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Larnel Coleman offensive tackle, Jared Doakes a running back in
round seven and as an undrafted pre agent, they got
Robert Jones. They got a name minus for that draft
started strong. First three picks were all good. Yeah, yeah,
Holland can't stay on the field, Phillips, I should say.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
So, Yeah, that holds up.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Detroit got a name minus Penney Sewell at seven overall.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Levi overs Ozo Rique in the second round to pick
forty one, Alee McNeil in the third round, Effetti Melifanu
at one oh one, A mon Ross Saint Brown in
round four.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
That may be the best one yet.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Derek Barnes in round four, Jamar Jefferson the running back.
In round seven, they didn't have anything in between four
and seven undrafted guys. They got Jerry Jacobs, Tommy Kramer,
Ryan McCullum, A J. Parker, Riley Patterson brock Wright, all
of whom played games that year.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Okay, so they brought those guys up because they did something.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
You got Pin Soul, Ali McNeil, and a monross Aint Brown.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
You got two starting defensive tackles, the best right tackle
in the league, and a Pro Bowl perennial Pro Bowl.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Receiver Tennis widers.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
Yeah, yeah, that's strong.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
That might be number one.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
I think it's number one. Yeah, there's some good ones though.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Yeah. Five by Cincinnati, of course, they got Jamar Chase
and fifth overall second round Jackson Carmen. Round three they
got Joseph Asai.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
They're still trying to figure him out.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
On round four, cam Sample edge rusher. At one twenty two,
they got Tyler Shelvin, a defensive tackle. One thirty nine,
Deontay Smith, a guard. Round five Evan McPherson.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
The kicker, he's your second best pick.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Round six was Trey Hill the center, and Chris Evans
is a running back. And they also got Wyatt Hubert
in round seven. That one didn't hold up very well.
Just one guy, yo, You got one player and a kicker.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
You got a superstar and that's it.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah, and a round five kick that you picked at one, then.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
You would have got sold instead if the Lions, Yeah,
third Chase.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
You know they had a bunch of picks, a.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Bunch of picks. All those defensive misses missus over and over.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Yeah, six was the Patriots. They also got a name
minus Mac Jones that didn't hold up very well.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
His rookie year was good.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
His rookieyear was good. Christian Barmore in round two.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
That's blood clots. That's unfortunate, but that's.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
That's a miss though at this point. Yeah, Ronnie Perkins
an outside linebacker in round three at ninety six, Nope,
round four or Mandree Stevenson. Okay, you know, round five
at one seventy seven, Cameron mcgrone a linebacker, Round six safety,
Josh Bledsoe one ninety seven was William Sherman, an offensive tackle,

(26:07):
and round seven was Trey Nixon by far the worst
one that might be an.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
F ye to this point, Mac Jones, the a lot
of these guys aren't like the still hope for bar
Moore and they gave him money and who knows but
man but man a lot of these guys aren't what
he used to be. You know. That's a rough one.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Round seven the number seven the Cowboys. They got Michaeh
Parsons as well.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Draft. Yeah, that's just a good draft.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Lift Kelvin Joseph the cornerback at in round two.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
I think he's more or less been a starter. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Well, ohso Diggi Zoo on round three, it picked seventy five.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
They had three gave him big contract.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
They had three picks in the third, Chauncey Golston at
eighty four and nay Shawn Wright another cornerback at ninety
nine at one fifteen. And round four they had two
of the two picks there, Jabriel Cox the linebacker at
one thirty eight, Josh Ball on offensive tackle. Round five
was Simmi Fojoko wide receiver, Round six Quentin Bohanna defensive tackle. Rounds.

(27:09):
Also in round six was Israel Mukalmu and round seven
was Matt Faranok.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Parsons. It's kind of like the Bengals almost a superstar,
and Zo was a good player and they actually franchised
him and then extended him. So, I mean he's legit.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
The Brown's got a b plus. They were eighth overall,
Greg Newsom Okay, Jeremiah Wosu Cormo in it's the second round.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
Looking a little little rougher than he used to.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Round three was Anthony Schwartz. Oh yeah, pick ninety one.
Round four James Hudson, the offensive tackle backup. Also in
round four was Tommy Togii, defensive.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Tackle, big nose tackle type.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Round five they had two picks, Tony Fields, a linebacker
and Richard Lecante the safety. And in round six they
had to pick Dimitric Felton the running back.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Pretty bad, I mean, Newsom and j Oka are worth
the picks. I guess Newsom's a good player. I didn't
realize until the other day that you mentioned how bad
Jok's injury is.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Right now, and he might have played all this year.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yeah, and he's a smaller guy too.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Number nine overall, also getting a B plus the Eagles
DeVante Smith at ten Okay in the second round at
thirty seven, Landon Dickerson two hits. Round three, Milton Williams
at seventy three, another one of those things. Well they
didn't re sign him to a contract.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
You much think he's like one of the highest pai
different tackles in the league, just like Holland. But after
year one, Milton Williams wasn't doing anything.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
No nothing at that point. Yeah, when they were were
putting this together.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Nothing.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Round four was Zech Macpherson, the cornerback. Round five Kenneth
game One, another one of those guys. Well he must
think he's not he's not with the Eagles anymore in
the league doing stuff. Round six they had three picks,
Marlin to a polo two, Tarron Jackson, a defensive end,
Jacobi Stevens, a linebacker. Round seven was defensive end Patrick Johnson.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Okay, I was I was wondering if that was the
Melatta draft. No, No, top was good. Yeah, first three picks,
first three picks. Game wells it was a hit. Yeah,
Okay they would probably, I mean they didn't change a
whole lot. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
That was the year after they took Jalen Rager in
the first round.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
By the way, they had an awful receiver history for
by the Trader for A. J. Brown.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
The tenth best draft that year according to this after
the first first season was the Houston Texans. They didn't
make a pick until round three. Thinking of the first
they had two third round picks Davis.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Mills, who became a starter, but.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
He started eleven games as a rookie.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Lifetime backup at best.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Nico Collins Nice at that point hadn't done anything, done
anything yet. Right in round five Brevin Jordan the tight end,
Garrett Wallow the linebacker. Round six was Roy Lopez defensive tackle.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Wow, how did they get this?

Speaker 2 (30:23):
And the notable free agent was Jimmy Morsey. I don't
know why they were tenth.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Yeah, how would they because of Davis Mills, because the
Mills being a starter and showing a little promise, Because
Nico's is the draft class and he didn't break out
until a third His rookie year wasn't anything. Now it
looks better now than it did then, right right, And
I still don't know that I put that tenth overall.
I'm sure we could come up with other ones. Yeah,
it was really really only got Nico out of it.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
The Raiders were eleven after the first season. Listen to
these picks. Alex Leatherwood at seventeen because he started all
seventeen games that year for the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
And then they got cut a year later or whatever.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Horrible Trey Von Morigg in the second round forty three,
Malcolm Coons at seventy nine. That's also okay, divine divine
dioblo so so yeah. Tyree Gillespie is safety in round four,
Nate Hobbs in round five, cornerback, and the center Jimmy Morrissey,

(31:23):
who they cut. He had five started five games or
started four games with Houston.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
They got multiple starters out of it, but the.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
First he took Leatherwood in the first round.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I mean, if you look at their draft history in
that neighborhood, it's like rugs and our net, and I mean,
so many misses in the first round.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
The Steelers got to be They were ranked twelfth. Najie
Harrison round one, Pat Fryer Muth in round two, solid,
Kendrick Green in round three, problem Dan Moore in round four.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Held up pretty well, right, that's a win.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Undred The one hundred and twenty eighth pick in the
draft was a four year left starting left tackle for you.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Yeah, he was a twenty million dollars player. Yeah, whether
you like it or not, I mean, that's that's a
that's a hit.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Buddy Johnson at pick one, one fifty six. They remember
they didn't have one there they traded into it to
get Isaiah laudermilk Ah, okay. Round six Quincy roche Mm hmmm.
Round seven was Trey Norwood and Presley Harvin.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Decent. It was okay, it was okay. Yeah. Friarman is
probably your best get Nause He's worth it. Dan Moore
is definitely worth it for the price.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Yeah, and you're gonna get compicks.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
I'm not saying yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Uh. In thirteen was the Chargers Rashaun Slater at thirteen
overall win a Sante Samuel Junior in round two signs
still unsigned.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
Oh, how to judge that one?

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Yeah, Josh Palmer in round three with Trey McKitty.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Palmer's okay.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Chris Rump in round four.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
It's just a weird off of wall question. Like if
you draft a receiver in the third round he turns
into Palmer, you're happy or not.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
He's just seventy seventh pick and he's okay. Okay, that's
like middle of the road. Yeah right, I mean it's
not a miss, but it's not a hit.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
A lot of Day two receivers are better than that.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
You know. Chris Rump in round four, the outside linebacker
Brendan James, an offensive tackle in round five, Nick Neeman
and Larry Rowntree a linebacker and running back in round six,
and Mark Webb Junior, a defensive back in round seven.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Really only Slater unless I miss somebody. I mean they
got stuff out of Samuel, but it's weird that he's
not signed.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Yeah, I don't know if there's injury and they I
mean they got some things that Palmer's.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Been okay, Yeah, but yeah, one big hit though.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, the Packers are We're fourteenth at that point. Eric
Stokes in round one, that's a mess. Josh Myers the
center in round two, below average center, Yeah, Amari Rodgers
in round three at eighty five. Round four, they took

(34:10):
Royce Newman, a guard.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
These are all bad.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah, he started sixteen games that year. You know.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Obviously.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Round five, Tredell Slaton the nose tackle, Schamar Jean Charles cornerback.
In round six they took had two picks Cole Van
Lannon and Isaiah McDuffie, got Garden a linebacker.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
This is a bad draft.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
And then in round seven Kylon Hill, a running back.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Real bad draft.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
That's a pretty bad draft.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
That's a pretty bad draft.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
And the best player, the best player you got out
of it was Josh Myers.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, center shouldn't be that hard to find. He's a
below average one.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yeah, but they were coming out of that season. They
were fourteenth.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
M I mean, I guess they had a couple of
guys play early.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Fifteenth was the Falcons. Kyle Pitts fourth overall, that has
an aged real well second round Richie Grant or yeah,
Richie Grant is safety, Jalen Mayfield, an offensive lineman in
the third round, Darren Hall, and Drew Dolman in the
fourth player.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Yeah, I'm not ready to shut the door on Pits,
but has.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
An age grade fourth overall, right, yeah, in round five,
take one Graham a defensive lineman, Ogan dj at Eddie
Ogin DJ in the fifth round, and Avery Williams cornerback,
Frank Darby in the sixth round. And they didn't have
a seventh rounder, but they did sign as Felipe Franks and.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
You can remember too. I mean they're picking fourth overall
in every round. I mean they were bad.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, four forty sixty eight, one oh eight. Those are
premium picks.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
I mean Pitt's had a thousand yards of a rookie year,
you hardly like any touchdown one touchdown one time, yeah
or something. But everyone was so excited about him at
that point. And then no, let's go to the bottom. Now.
Who the junkos.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
At thirty two coming out of their rookie year was
drum roll please, a lot.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
To learn here? You know the Seahawks quick?

Speaker 2 (36:11):
You know right now? The Seahawks only had three picks.
Oh that was that year.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Yeah, I remember that. They didn't get much.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
They got Dwayne Skridge at fifty six, Trey Brown the
cornerback in round four at one thirty seven, and Stone
forsythe an offensive tackle in round six.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Played a little, but it's hard to give him a
hard time for they for three. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Now, this team had a bunch of picks, and this
is how you end up having the first overall pick.
The Titans. Oh they got a D plus Caleb Farley.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
That was like, yeah, like a real high risk first round.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
The second round was Dylan ra Dunes.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
No, he's been a liability.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Round three was they had two Monty Rice and Elijah Moulden.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
That's bad work.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Round four was Des Fitzpatrick and Rashew Weaver.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Bad work.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Round six Racy McMath a wide receiver, and Brady Breeze.
They had all the cool names. And yeah, that was ugly.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
That's real bad.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
And you had a bunch of picks, and again premium picks.
You had five for the top one hundred and five
of the top one oh nine, noting nothing to show
for it.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
That's where you're at now.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Thirty was the Colts quit he pay that's.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
Still kind of be determined.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Yeah, dyo ah yeah, bingo.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Or bingo bo. The Bears just gave him more money.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
Than Round four was Kylon Grantson. They didn't have a
third round pick. Sean Davis the safety in round five,
Sam Elliger a quarterback round six, Michael Strahan the wide
receiver in round seven, along with Will Fries Will Fries, Right,
I mean it's a starter, yeah in round seven. Yeah,
I mean, I guess it got a little better. It

(37:58):
got better.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
It would be it would be better thirty first.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
No, it wouldn't be there, but it also is not great. Right,
And let's take a look here at number twenty nine,
which was the Rams. They never first round pick because
they were never one picks uh two to two at
well at fifty seven, Yeah, Ernest Jones at one oh three.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
He's bounced around, but he's a good linebacker.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
For three picks. In round four, Bobby Brown, a defensive tackle.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Maybe he's made some money.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Robert Rochelle a cornerback, Jacob Harris a tight end. Round
five was Ernest Brown the defensive end. Round seven Jake Funk,
Ben Scronic, and Chris Garrett.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
I don't know, maybe the worst anymore, but it wasn't
a tremendous They never first.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
They never first round pick, but they had a bunch
of picks.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
They had a bunch of picks, as they always did
in that stretch first, but they played the call game
really well. Interesting.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
The team of his twenty eighth is, believe it or not,
the Jaguars, Okay, Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
I said, was that the Lawrence draft. He was first over.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
And they had Travis eight in to finish twenty eighth.
When you had two first round draft picks, including the
number one overall pick in the first pick in every round,
Tyson Campbell, it looks.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Better than that. Now, it wouldn't be twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
No, they got that. If you look at it, actually
there's some actually some better pick cables playerah Tyson Campbell
at thirty three, Walker Little at forty five.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
They gave him money.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Andre Cisco at sixty five.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Somebody just gave him money.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah, Jay t Fele at one o six, Jordan Smith
and outside linebacker at won twenty one, Luke Farrell at
won forty five, and Jalen Campbell wide receiver in round six.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Not horrible, but you had a lot of resources. You
had everybody with you.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
You had four of the top forty five picks and
five of the top sixty five, including one including number
one overall. Yeah. Like, I don't know, the Lord should
have been number one with a bullet.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yeah. Like, I'm sure like Mels grades that come out
on my day, they were one or two.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Oh yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Two first round picks including the Golden Boy.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Yeah, I mean it's higher than that.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Now it would be now or no question, but would
it be markedly higher if we look back on it.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
It'd be a bit higher than some of those top ten.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
It wouldn't be twenty eight, It'd be in the top
fifteen somewhere. I'd say camp Cisco is a good player
Atn's little, okay, Yeah, I mean Lawrence is at least
an average starter.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
Yeah, and if you're.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Going to put David at the detections up there for
Davis Mills, my god, you get.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
About right right like that, that class is better than
the Texans and even with Nico. Yeah, yeah, wow, it
does change.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
It's just you know again, so when you look at
those draft classes, even after the first year, you don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
And Steeler is a perfect example of their rookie class
last year. Yeah, there's a lot of incomplete grades on that,
a lot.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Of incomplete game. I'm looking at twenty seven on here
is the Cardinals with Zavon Collins, rond Dell Moore, Marco Wilson,
Victor Doo, mccajay, Tiger Gowan, James Wiggins, and Michael Manet.
I don't know if nobody there they got nothing. That
might be the worst draft yet.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
There might be zero guys on the roster still.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
And a lot of these guys aren't even in the
league anymore.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
Yeah, yeah, I know where half those dudes are. Zaven
Collins might be still a card He think he's a.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Card I think he's still a Cardinal. But they don't
know what to do with them.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
But they've just they just drafted linebackers and the like crazy, right,
so it just it does change quick.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
We mentioned this the other day too. Just even if
if you just use Steeler drafts. I love getting excited
about a draft class, but it's probably not as good
as you think. You know, if you there's a lot
of misses every for every team, it's not a Steeler thing.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
Maybe we'll do that in our number two in the
second segment, we'll take a look back at some Steeler
draft classes of the.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Past and was it a good one or not?

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Yeah, So anyways, let's get to a break. He is
the Matt Williamson. I am Dale Lolly. You're listening to
the Drive here on the Steelers Audio Network. Matt and
I will be back with more right after this. At least.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
And we are back on Dale Lolly. He is the
Matt Williamson and Matt Nick Cassario was on the up
in Adams today and said that they tried to move
up in the first round of the draft. Remember they
were picking twenty fifth and that was one of the
teams that we looked at pre draft and said, you know,
maybe that would be a team that the Steelers might

(42:37):
be able to move back with.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Yeah, So they thought about going up. It end up
inevitably going back. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
So we tried to get up and teams started calling
us around what do you say here picks nineteen eighteen,
nineteen twenty range. We started to get some calls about
our pick, so we were putting information up on the board.
They had three they actually had three different traded scenarios
that were on the board at one time. They were
prepared to also draft a player obviously.

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Yeah, yeah, and then they ended up moving back.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
He said, When I think when Minnesota picked at twenty
four and they picked, we were able to consummate the
trade with the Giants, so we scooted back there in
the second round and then had that second pick to
start Friday.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
What I found interesting about that little section of the
draft is I'm sure if the Giants called twenty five Houston, Yeah,
they called twenty four right Vikings, who hardly picks. Yeah,
and they took Jackson the guard out.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
Of they could have gotten at thirtieth.

Speaker 3 (43:34):
They probably could have waited a little bit on him.
I know that there was an O Line tax, I
mean there was you to go earlier on these guys,
but I didn't understand why the Vikings would make the
pick make the same trade.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
Yeah, just one of those strange things. Yeah, sometimes, you know,
drafting or making draft day trades much more difficult oftentimes
than the way we do it when we that for sure.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
Yeah, who do you think Houston would have been trading
up for if they were trying to get to like
sixteen seventeen eighteen they.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Ended up taking.

Speaker 3 (44:02):
They took the two Iowa state receivers, Yeah, and Ursery.
They didn't pick until the second round.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
That was probably one of the one of the wide
receivers in they wanted to go up.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
To get maybe Abuka maybe or yeah possibly, I mean
I would think it'd be O Line or I mean
what tackles were falling in that area? Who I don't
think any really Yeah, not really they were there, but yeah,
but they could have taken them in twenty five.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Yeah, so I had to be one of the wide
receivers and Tampa took Buka.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, maybe maybe that's the target. Yeah, could add up.
So just an like little draft g gms come out
and actually tell you the truth, like we tried.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
To ten often or should they, but.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
They heard the other day. The Rams were infatuated with
rock Bowers. Couldn't get there last year. This year they
were infatuated with Loveland. Couldn't get there. It's far jumped.
So we'll trade down and take Ferguson. You know, we're
taking a tight end to the way.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
I guess back to what we're talking about with the
quarterbacks next year with the Rams. Everybody has the Rams
moving up into the top five to get a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
Yeah yeah, I mean that might be the eighteenth and
twenty fifth pick might not get you.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
That might not get you there.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Yeah yeah, yeah, you know. So it's funny. We've been
doing a series and today we talked about NFC West
and the Rams really didn't get much at all from
this draft. I mean, if Ferguson's your best prize and
I didn't like there after the picks after that, I'm
not saying that they didn't win the Falcons trade, but
kind of walked away with this draft without much.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
Well, they put themselves in a situation and the Steelers
are going to be in that same situation going into
next year, where when you have a whole bunch of
those day two picks, Yeah, you've got that good cheap
labor over four years, and so you can afford to
be a little more aggressive in a draft.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Yeah, or sort of sit one out, yeah, half sit
one out if it pays off down the road. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
So just something to keep in mind for Steeler fans, like.

Speaker 3 (45:54):
No, that's true. It'll be a different world having those picks,
all those picks is And how much fun are we
gonna have doing MOX next year with all those picks,
you know? All right?

Speaker 2 (46:04):
Kidding me, I want to start doing that now, I
do it right now. Anyways, that's going to do it
for our number one of the drive here on the
Steelers Audio Network. Matt and I will be back with
our number two right after this
