Speaker 1 (00:03):
This is the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson
on your twenty four to seven home of the Black
and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
And we are back. I'm Dale Lolli. He is the
Matt Williamson and Matt it is time for the Fantasy
football focus.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
On fantasy in a while, It is time. It is time. Yeah,
it is digging into fantasy season as we speak.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, I'm looking here, sticking with the Pro Football Focus
stuff here, and they have their fantasy football quarterback tiers.
Oh okay, cool, let's roll through these here. Yeah, yeah,
kick off the hour number two. Okay, So they have
their Tier one guys. Are their quarterback cheat codes?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Good way of putting it, because I think there's a
few of these guys, and then I'm not sure I'm
taking the Tier two three guys. It almost feels like
you go big for one of these monsters that runs
throws star you know, great team, blah blah blah, or
I might just be like the last one to pick
a quarterback in my league.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
They've got four guys in the Tier one Lamar Jackson,
Jade and Daniels, Josh Allen, Jalen j.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yeah and everybody has that as tier one, as they
should do. You have a preference of who should be one,
who should be four. Allen to me is the most
consistent every year. I mean yeah, because he scores so
many touchdowns and he doesn't miss games. He doesn't miss games.
He's the biggest, strongest of them all. Daniels worries me
(01:41):
a little just because it's tier two, you know, like
that's the only knock I have on the guys, Like
Stroud wasn't as good into the second year. Just show
me it again.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Doesn't have that cheat coche.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
That's why they're not close for fantasy. But I mean,
just in the real world, could he take a step
back as a football player, It's possible. I think Lamar
would be my two. Yeah, Hurts is probably my four.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Hurts is four, but the NFL not getting ready of
the tousch Bush.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
He may not be in that tier without it, right,
but he doesn't throw enough, not enough passing volume.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Burrows almost like the consensus five.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Tier two. Okay, they call this one. Variety is the
spice of life. You get a bunch of guys here,
Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Kyler, Murray, Rock Purdy,
Bo Nicks and Justin Fields.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
They're not all the same. They wouldn't be in the
same tier.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Is variety, Well, there's variety.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
They would be different tiers for me. For me, Burrow
stands alone at five. But if you're gonna take him
as a fifth quarterback off the board, if he doesn't
throw forty touchdowns for you, dude, he probably doesn't pay
off on the investment.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
He barely runs at all.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Barely runs it all, right, I mean, so could he
throw forty? He might be my vote of who throws
the most touchdown passes in the whole league, but he
has to throw forty just to break even on the
guy right right. Mahomes has not been a very good
fantasy quarterback lately, but part of me thinks he will
be this year.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Plus if he also has had not had Worthy, Rice,
Marquise Brown, Kelsey all on the field together. Now he
does at the moment. That doesn't mean he will for
seventeen games. But part of me thinks, boy, everyone's talking
about Alan and Lamar gaining on me, and Nick Shuk
has me as my seventh ranked quarterback. Like Mahomes might
(03:46):
have a monster MVP y. Yeah, Yeah, Mayfield is he's
now consistent. Yeah, throws a ton of touchdowns, get great receivers.
But are you paying quarterbacks six or seven price for him?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Well round, are we talking?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah? I don't know how long. I don't know the
gaps between these guys, but I trust him now.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I'd rather have him than Kyler Murray brought all that
extra justin fields.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, they would be that whole group would be a
different tier to me. Yeah, Murray's two inconsistent and he
doesn't run as much as you think. Nicks runs more
than you think, but they would run the ball fields.
You're just banking on rushing and that's fine.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I don't know if he can stay healthy doing that.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, and he's got one receiver he hasn't he hasn't.
I know he's a hot name, and I get it
for fantasy, but I don't know if that canna be
my quarterback one. Yeah, and who's the other name there.
He'll throw a lot of touchdowns, but that's still awfully
pricey for rock party that that neighborhood doesn't excite me.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Tier three the best of the non obvious quarterback ones.
This group is Jared Goff, Caleb Williams, Drake May, c J. Stroud,
Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I'm not saying he's probably the worst player of the group,
but May is the one that stands out to me
because he's the only one there's any chance to rush
for five hundred yards and that's enough, and he was
very productive.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
He might not want him rushing for five hundred yards.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
It might not. I doubt that they'll probably design fewer
quarterback runs.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Those other guys are all really good players, they just
don't run.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Love runs a little bit.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Love does, Okay, I'm trying. I'm trying to think every
name off the top of my head. Love also played
injured a lot less last year. He might be at
the top of my list. Can run, Yeah, I don't
think they want him to, but they actually do design
some runs for him. But at the end of the day,
it doesn't end up with a lot of rushing yards
of course of the year, any of those guys you
want or is it a lot different than the others.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I won our championship last year with Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I would say Love might be the one I would
take first of that group. Yeah, I mean I still
think he's best years or to calm my trust the
floor first round rod receiver go running off like I
might take him over party.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I think I would.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, Yeah, The.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Tier four guys super flex starters Trevor Lawrence, J. J. McCarthy, two, Attago,
I Loa, Michael Pennix, Matthew Stafford, Bryce Young, Sam Darnold,
cam Ward, Gino Smith.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I can't say any of them excite me.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
None, not a one.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Who is the highest ceiling fantasy points.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Ward might be Tua. He hasn't run at all though, Yeah,
but he also might throw. He might throw forty he
might throw forty touchdowns because they're d is gonna stink.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I also am kind of buying Miami offense for fantasy,
like it's not as bad as it was last year.
I mean, yeah, Tyreek's I'm gonna Who is that list again?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Trevor Lawrence, J. J. McCarthy, to Attago, Vilaa, Michael Pennix,
Matthew Stafford, Bryce Young, Sam Donald, cam wore Gino Smith.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I think you'll see this. I'm talking ab our listeners.
The more of these fantasy lists you see, there are
some people ranking McCarthy really high. Too high, too high,
I think, too right. I mean, it's all based on
who he has. Well, Donald was the like I think
Donald end up like this a seventh overall fantasy quarterback, and.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
But Donald had so much more experience.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
That's my point. You're right, right, I mean, and the
pundits for McCarthy are like, well, he's gonna run more
than Donald, not a ton, but a couple hundred yards more.
And I'm just betting on O'Connell with Hawkinson and Addison
and Jeff.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
They didn't trade for running back for no reason, right,
I do.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Think they'll run the ball, right. I've seen people write
McCarthy in the top ten, and I think that. I
don't know if that's for clickbaits or what, but that's
not uncommon.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
I'm not there no Tier five starters with question marks.
Aaron Rodgers, okay, touchdowns, but Anthony Richardson, Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco,
Tyler Shock, Daniel Jones. For fantasy purposes.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Nah, Joe, Well, not as my starter. If Jones is
the clear starter, I have some interest because he will
run and I like his weapons.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Here's the problem, though, I mean, I'm taking a twelfth round.
He may be the clear starter by default, yeah, coming
out of training camp because Richardson's hurt, right, right, But
they're going to want to go back to Richardson at
some point.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
They almost have to. They almost have to, right, I mean,
if they're three and five and Richardson's healthy, they got
probably gonna play.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
They gotta play him.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
But my point is, if I'm using a twelve round
pick on Daniel Jones and he gets benched and we gates,
I'll just cut him pick up Richardson. Yeah, I don't
think I want any of these quarterbacks this year. Usually,
especially at this position, there's three guys you can get
in the mid to late rounds that I'm like, oh,
(09:27):
I'm running the podium value. I'm not seeing that guy
this year.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Maybe I will take Josh Allen or one of these
guys and just be done to me.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Rogers is the one who has a little more upside
potential because you throw a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Throw touchdowns. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I mean he threw for thirty nine hundred yards last year.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, I think it was twenty eight touchdowns something like that.
He could get there, and.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
He rushed for he rushed for a hundred. It's like
he didn't do anything.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Right, right, Maybe, I mean none of those guys you
wanted to be a fantasy starter want, right, I'm talking
we're talking back up there. Of course, of course at
this price, that's these are bad groups tier six. So
you're saying there's a chance Joe Milton, h Jylen Milroe,
(10:18):
Jameis Winston, Jackson, Dart, Shador, Sanders, Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Can he Pickett?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Dart's the one I trust the most to get on
the field of that group. Yeah, and he runs a
lot and he throws the neighbors. I mean, I might
pick him up when when that day comes. If Milroe
would ever see the field, I'm spending heavy to get him.
I'm not He'll run like crazy.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah, but I'm not a Millrow fan.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I am, especially for fantas.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Tom never mind, Yeah, I am a Millroe fan. I'm
not a Joe Milton fan.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
No. No, he would treating be in that tier to me. No, right,
all right? He said one good game? No, and plus
what's it? I mean, an injury could happen to any
of the starters, but I could at least write a
scenario where Darnold gets benched or Wilson gets benched and
let's put the kid in for the last six weeks
of the season, right, you know, in Seattle or New York. Yeah,
(11:18):
I don't like this quarterback crop at all.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It's rough.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
It's rough. I might go for one of the top four,
but they're going to be pricey, and I bet the
ADP keeps.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Going up extremely pricey. Yeah, and everybody else in your
draft they might have the same idea.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Right right, right, And then what are you paying for?
Like the Mayfield tier? I mean, if you could shut
out on the top four, boy, they're too expensive. I'm
not using a second round pick on those guys or
a top twenty five pick on those guys. I mean,
Mayfield is a lot more comforting than a lot of
(11:54):
those names. But man, I don't want to be the
guy drafting quarterback.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Six seven, eight, no, none of all. Yeah, it's it's uh.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Ye, yeah, I need to do more research on what
receivers and running backs do I like in that Mayfield range?
Can I afford to go do Alan Hurtz whatever?
Speaker 2 (12:14):
And then just well, I mean I think one of
the decisions you have to make is can I live
with a Jared Goff or Drake May or Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
If I'm loaded everywhere else, the answer might be yes,
especially for like a Love or a Goth that I
just know what I'm gonna get. Yeah, you know, like
May to me is the one name on there that
could really explode. But there's a lot of variants. Yeah,
you know, the weapons store aren't great. They're still not
great at all. But golf gonna throw touchdowns. He's not
gonna run, you know. I mean, like I know what
(12:45):
he's getting, he's not gonna get.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
The defense might not be quite as good this year.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
They have a tough schedule, might have to throw more
like if when we get the running backs. There's a
lot of people bumping gibbs up just on the thought
of the Lions have one of the hardest schedules in
the league. They're not gonna be blowing people latent games.
Given it to Montgomery, they may actually playing from behind
in the second half, and that'd be good for golf too. Yeah,
you know, raise your passing percentage by three or four
(13:10):
percent and just don't swallow teams up in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Yeah, yeah, we'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
I don't think he'd kill you and it'd be cheap
and be cheap and be cheap.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
I can get him in the tenth round.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I five the best running backs in my league. Maybe
that adds up to more points. Yeah, Or you spend
heavy on one of.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
The tight end where you take two of these guys and.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Yeah, if I take two, one of them would be
like a May Yeah you know, or one of the
young guys you know.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Used to stick a shot and get a Jared Golf
as your fallback option.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah. I have doubts about Caleb Williams, but he'd be
a good wild card too. Yeah. He's throwing the big
time weapons right now.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yeah, so interesting. It's just, uh, it goes against what
I think both of us believe. But those top four guys.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
They give you an advantage like every week.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Yeah, I mean that's a nice feeling unless you're playing
against for sure.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
But I talk about this all the time, Like the
worst feeling ever is I've got I'm playing Dale and
my guys are all done and I've got a thirty
point lead and he only has Josh Allen going Monday night, Like,
h yeah, I feel so comfortable. I had a great
week and then by the fourth quarter I'm losing by ten. Yeah,
(14:29):
I mean that's what those four do every week. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
It's rough, Yeah it's rough, but that's going to do
it for the fantasy football focus. Let's get to another break.
He is the Matt Williamson. I'm Dale Lollie. You're listening
to the Drive here on the Steelers Audio Network, and
I'll be back with more right after this.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
This is the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson
on your twenty four to seven Home of the Black
and Gold cast in Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
And we are back. I'm Dale, Allie. He is the
Matt Williamson and sticking with the list time of year.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Yeah, let's keep it rolling.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Again. Pro Football Focuses put together their list of the
top thirty two, ranking the thirty two defensive fronts in
the league.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Wow. Okay, I think that Super Bowl is a great example.
But I don't want to have too much recency bias.
But if I could be at the top of any list,
secondary O line, pass catchers, quarterback would be one, and
either O line or D line would be two, and
I probably would take D line just because there's so
(15:46):
much different. The great ones are so much different than
the great o lineman nowadays. Yeah, you know, and I
assume this list is gonna include like Watton Highsmith. They're
not calling them linebackers. I think defensive front, yeah, as
they should.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
At thirty two are the New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Saints, Cam Jordan and a bunch of hoping Carl Granderson, Yeah, Jersey,
And I think Chase Young's back, I think, but he
ain't what he used to be.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Thirty one the Washington Commanders.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I mean this, I meant to mention this in fantasy
the Bengals and Commanders to me scream, I went their
fantasy players because I think both defenses are going to
be terrible, and they both have big time quarterbacks and
their offenses look loaded. And this used to be a
huge strength of this team. Remember they sweat and Young
(16:38):
right all right now, it's like, man, their front's bad.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Thirty No surprise year the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, I mean the two first round picks in the mix,
but what are you gonna get of them?
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Twenty nine the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I like the edge guys up the middles. Not great
some of this list. Those shows, like the twenty ninth
d line is a thousand times better than the twenty
ninth O line. Yeah, I mean that all these teams,
I mean, even like the Saints have they still Cameron Jordan.
He's not the pro bowler used to be. But if
that's the worst line in the league, that's still a
(17:18):
lot better than the worst O line in the league.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
The Carolina Panthers getting Derek Brown back is going to
go a long way, But it was the worst unit
in the league last year year without him, you know, Yeah,
they just there's not much there.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Twenty seven. This is surprising Tampa Bay.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Hmm. I would be higher on them than that. I
don't know what they'll get out of Reddick. I think
yah Ya Dabis an up and coming player. Kansey is
a specialty guy, but Vey as a stude. Yeah, I
mean D line would be hard to rank because everybody
has D line, there's so many. But I think i'd
(18:03):
have them a little higher than that.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Twenty six The New York Jets.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Okay, Quinn Williams is a big time player. He's probably
better than any player mentioned so far. They get Jermaine
Johnson back for my first round pick that I'm high on.
McDonald had a good year but then it starts to
get a little lean.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah. Twenty five the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Might have them lower their detackles are bad. Hendrickson carries weight,
don't get me wrong, but everything else is a question.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, it's not good.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
No.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Twenty four.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
If Hendrickson plays for if Yeah, if he does.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Twenty four of the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
No stars. Gary took a step back. Van Ness has
done nothing. Clark's a good player, but not getting better.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Right.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
They've invested a lot, though they need to get better, a.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Lot of first round picks it yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Twenty three the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Williams had a monster season. I'm really fond of Murphy
the edge. You guys are okay?
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Yeah, and those guys there's no star.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
There's no star there, right.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Twenty two the Raiders who Crosby's awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
I'm a Wilkins believer. Out of sight, out of mind though,
the first round pick from Texas text thinks.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
I did see a thing about Wilkins that he's still
in a walking boot?
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Is he really? Yeah? That's bad. Yeah, but like Malcolm
Coots is okay, but that's probably where they belonged. I
mean it's there's still in a lot of depth there.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
And okay, twenty one this was gonna surprise you.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
The forty nine ers doesn't surprise me. No, And they
invested heavily on it because it was bad. It was
Bosa and the Pips, and so they used like three
high picks on D linemen, none of whom I think
are just like plug and play stars.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
You know they have. But three years ago they were
oh they got two years ago, they were in consideration
for number one.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Right, That's why they did. That's their identity, you I mean,
they want to be great there and they're not, or
they weren't. Twenty the Arizona Cardinals, that's an interesting one
because a year ago they'd be last. Back to your
gaining conversation, they inherited nothing on the D line. Yeah,
now they got like ten of them, from Kalayis Campbell
(20:42):
to first round picks. I mean, Walter Nolan grab sweat
off the Eagles. I think I'd be higher on them
if you look at depth. They're loaded all.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Of a sudden, nineteen is the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
I think I'd be lower on them. Yeah, Max's still
really good, but he's old. The rest of the group's
fine and they got more out of them than that.
But like Puna, Ford is good for them last year
and he moved on. Yeah, that unnoticeably lower.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Eighteen the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
I think it's a little bit of an overrated group too.
They've spent some money there, but I would have attacked
that d line more with all the money they had,
and I might have drafted.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Some older dudes up there. Yeah, you're trying on Grady
Jared the Yeah, you know, be Grady Jared again, and
I don't know that he can.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
No, that one doesn't excite me. Dexter Gervin excites me.
I think Sweat's a good player, but they're not rare.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Seventeen the Colts, Okay, I think a lot too will
be better in his second year. They've invested a lot.
Buckner is a really good player. I still would take
a couple ones.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Over the movie. Stewards solid.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, he's a good player too.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Sixteen they spend a lot of money on this offseason Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
That still seems high. They bought two older guys, Alan
and Hargrave. I know Van Ginkel had a good year,
but I don't consider him like a top edge player.
No mi Ani stretch like I'm taking Arizona over those guys.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Fifteen the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
That's fair. I mean they got an elite player, a
lot of role players. I mean they went the big
beat your face, two hundred and seventy pound car loftis
ends they don't really want the two hundred and forty
edge bender guy. Yeah, yeah, but one more pass rusher
would be nice.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Fourteen the Titans.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
I was wondering when the Titans are gonna pop up,
what's their logic behind having them so higher than Simmons.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Well, you got Jeffrey Simmons, dev Andre Sweat.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah, Sweat played really well as a rookie. I should
have thought of that raft off my head. Yeah, their
edge guys aren't dynamic though.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
No, but they got two good they got.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
They're hard to move in the middle, that's sure.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Thirteen the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Might be a little rich, but they've added to it.
I assume bar More is in the mix. Yeah. I
always felt bad for him with the blood clot situation,
but he was turning into a star. Okay, you put
him next to Williams. That should be a really formidable group.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Twelve Dallas.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
They need Mazie Smith to be a lot better. That
defense is like all former first round picks that were
bus Yeah, but Parsons is obviously a big dog there.
But they don't have Lawrence anymore.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, they like to collect the former first round.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
They really did, and this year they went out of
their way to do it.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Eleven Miami.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Their edge guys are pretty good, Chop Chubb, Phillips, else
is never on the field. Though. The middle was weak,
but you throw Kennis Grant in the mix, it's the
back seven, it's terrible.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Ten Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
They don't really have weaknesses. I don't see a lot
of studs. Matta Bouquet didn't take a step forward. He
was a really good player. Jones is a nice space eating,
power nose tackle type. And then they always have a
van Ney, always have somebody like him. Yeah, always getting better,
(24:35):
but not at a rapid rate.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Then Noise thirty four.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
They always have that veteran tough guy, you know.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Nine the Rams they're.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
The best one yet, in my opinion, you added Punifford,
you have all the young guys. I think Turners are
a really good player. I think Versus a really good player.
Fisk is a pain in the butt. Yeah, it's a
good gawd. Eight the Broncos. Yeah, depth isn't wonderful. Zach
(25:07):
Allen and Benito are a lot better than people might know.
There's no von Miller there. That's like going to the
Hall of Fame. But there they get a lot.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Out of that. And John Frankly Myers is solid.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
It's real solid. Yeah, and led league in sacks last
year too.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
I would have them ahead of this next group. Seven
is Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah. I can't put a ton of faith in Graham yet.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
No.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Garrett carries a monster amount of weight, of course, but
are they really any different than like Dallas. No, you
know this as a superstar and then questions you.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Knows it all at different from the n even the Niners.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah, but like Bosa and early picks, right, you know.
Six is Detroit, healthy, hut and really helps. But I'd
like to see a compliment to him.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
McNeil is good.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Yeah, and yeah Williams out of Ohio state. They got
a lot of beef in the middle right now. Yeah,
so I'm fine with that.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Five is Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Hmmm. They drafted three of them because they obviously felt
it was a weakness. I like Rousseau, Aton all Over
is a certain type of player. But because of the
depth now they'll rotate them in. They're gonna go eight deep,
which I'm sure they're factoring in here. There's no studs.
(26:37):
The SOO is their best guy for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Four is the Texans.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Yeah, that edge pairing is maybe the best in the league.
Hunter and Anderson, the interior guys are harder to play against,
and you think it's a good group.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Three is the Giants.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
I might even have them higher.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Higher than three two spots.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
I know two, I know who it would be my one.
I might have them ahead of the number who I
would have put it too. I think Lawrence is the
best defensive tackle in the league, and now they got
three scary ed rushers.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Two is Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
I think I'd have the Giants ahead of them. M
Eagles have more. Eagles just to have more, they just
but they lost two or three. Carterner could be the
defensive player of the year. I think Jordan Davis a
little overrated. The Red guys are good, but not special
to me. Yeah, I think, I mean, obviously they know
(27:48):
who's number one. I mean we're listening to Steelers Radio
and they haven't been mentioned. I think they're a distant first. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Number one are the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yeah, TJ. Watt and
Cam Hayward are still elite. Yeah, Alice Heismith isn't far off, no, right,
I mean I mentioned the Texans might be the best
edge rushers in the league. I think it's between them
and Pittsburgh. I mean pairing, and that doesn't even account
for her big right, who's the best third edge rusher
(28:17):
in the league by far? And a first round pick
in a first round pick.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
And ben and they added depth, Like, I don't think
they're weighing a whole lot on who's your eighth best
D lineman? But their eighth best D lineman's better than
it was last year. Yeah, it will be, you know,
the Logan Lee's and those type of dudes and the
guys they've signed. I think it's clearly number one. It's deep,
it's strong, Yeah, star power, experienced, youth and what more
(28:45):
do you want?
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Again, these aren't our rankings, no, right, right, These are
the rankings of pro football folks.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
I mean, if you want to fight about who's better
Wat Garrett Parsons, whatever, Okay, if you're gonna fight about
who's better Lawrence Hayward, Chris Jones. Okay, but you're comparing
those guys to the best players at their position, right,
and then the next group is really good, yeah, you
know on the Steelers, right, Yeah, and that's not even
know what Harmon brings.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Yeah, the next group of guys would start on a
lot of those teams that are twenty and lower.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Oh yeah, Herbie's a starter for twenty teams. Yeah, and
that's not even mentioned what Sawyer would give you as
a rookie, right and black and yeah, they drafted three
of these dudes this year.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Two.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
It's gonna be good.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Yeah, yeah, sure, But that was Pro Football focuses rankings
of the top defensive fronts in the NFL heading into
the twenty twenty five season, Steelers coming in at number one.
We're going to get to another break. He is Matt Williamson.
I'm Dale Lallie listening to the drive. You're on the
Steelers Audio Network. Now I'll be back with more right
(29:53):
after this.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
At least.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt Williamson on
your twenty four to seven Home of the Black and
Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
And we are back. I'm Dale Lolli. He is the
Matt Williamson and Matt. The Houston Texans announced their twenty
twenty five training camp schedule. They're going to spend time
at the Greenbrier in West Virginia this year, and by
my count, that will mean the Saints have been there.
(30:36):
The Browns practice down there. I can't think that there's
another team that did or not.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
I wonder, I bet there is.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I want to say maybe Jacksonville at one point rings
about Greenbrier.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Have you ever been there? Yeah? I have not. I've
heard a lot about it. I should go. What would
be so attractive to go there as a team.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Getting away to the middle of nowhere and having no distractions?
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Okay, it's also like beautiful and high end and risk
and yeah yeah, yeah, so you're much more of a
history political person than I am. That was also like
a presidential retreat or a bunker or something, right.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Yeah, the government built basically a fallout shelter there, okay,
for the government, for for the president, members and everything.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
If during like a nuclear scape there's a nuclear war, Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Yeah, they're gonna ship everybody. I guess it was probably
ten or twelve years ago wordlyked out that that was
the case. I don't know if that was, you know,
still the plan. Yeah, but they have since then opened
that up.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
That was my next question. You can go tour the
like you think the Texans tore that, you know, like
I would, Yeah, and why wouldn't you? Right, all right?
I would think the team goes through it learns a
little bit of American history. This is you know, that
makes sense and it's beautiful and they probably the government
probably picked it because it is a middle of nowhere. Yeah,
I mean nobody knows their type of thing. Yeah, get
(32:13):
the most important people hidden and safe. Okay. I assume
there's decent football fields. Yeah, okay, I mean like there
aren't it nemicole and like I keep thinking of.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
It as like a resort set up to do these things.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
It just makes me wonder in this age of teams
staying on at their own facilities because they build these
palacial right right, right right, This is this is what
you want to do when I go to a college
campus somewhere, do the whole Steelers?
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Do the Steelers move? Maybe it will come full circle
where man, everyone's going home at night sleeping in their
own beds. We feel like we're a disadvantage. So this
year we'll do a Green Briar trip. Okay, right, well,
why don't we just make it a Saint Vincent trip,
you know, and just move in and which is happening
less and less, but maybe people will realize we're losing
(33:09):
out on this. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Now, it is costly for teams to go away to camp.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Especially for I mean these teams. They're not driving to
La Trobe right either. But I mean not that it's
cheap for the Steelers. They're gonna move a weight room
and they got to do a lot of there's a
lot of more that goes into it.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
They pay, They pay Saint Vincent a handsome sum of money,
right right right too camp.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
I mean even you and I have a dorm room
and I mean like things got this money and there's
food and all that stuff. But that can't be the
same as Houston going to Greenbrier No for a week.
Or's going to be way more expensive because I assume
they still work out and have a training staff and
all those things. So they will go douring camp. Yeah, okay,
like just for three days, five days whatever.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
They do they go to take a look here exactly.
I mean that's there, but go from West Virginia to Minie.
So the reports, Ah, they're only going to be their
August fourth through the.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Seventh, okay, but they're gonna fly everybody there.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
So why not do your entire camp?
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Yeah? Yeah, I don't know if you want to have
it all with Greenbrier, but why not do your whole
camp away?
Speaker 2 (34:19):
All right?
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Especially with these teams now, there's more and more joint practices.
It seems like there's a lot more travel in training
camp now than ever anyway, Yeah, you know, and why
not just make it one big deal. I don't know.
I wonder if teams are all reconsidering that.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
I mean I get it, you know, if you're the
owner and you've written a bunch of big checks to
build this palatial yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
We're not going anywhere.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Yeah right, you got everything we need right here.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
But even at that, you're still putting guys up at
hotels and stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Oh absolutely, I mean you don't have I mean, still
have a huge roster that if the feed and howls
and all that kind of stuff, and all that equipment
and all that kind of stuff too. And even from
the coaching scouting perspective, the players leave when their last
meeting is over, right, Coaches stay as long as they
(35:13):
want more or less. I mean, like it's up to
you when you finally walk out of the building. But
if you're on campus, you're bumping into your buddy, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Steelers love and Mike tom loves about Saint Vincent College.
Once practice is over, Yeah, you're on leisure time, but
you're not going anywhere. You're not the nightclubs or you know,
it's your teammates.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Right, there's also a less chance a player gets in trouble.
Should or Sanders driving one hundred miles an hour or whatever.
You know. Yeah, maybe go to a bar restaurant close
in Latrobe. Maybe once in a while we'll see a
player out, not that they're not allowed, it's just they
just go get a different dinner. But they're not out
rocking till two am. No, you know, none of that
kind of stuff. It's ms right, it's yeah, it's just
(36:00):
more of a controlled environment.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
It's a controlled environment. It's more of a team feel
as well.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Makes me want to go to the trope.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
We'll go soon enough.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Although the heat today. I thought about it too. I'm like,
I hope it's not this au trope. But part of
me today was like, Sharky's in the dorm room and
watching practice would be pretty good, right about that?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
All right, yeah, yeah, we'll be we'll be ready to
go and we go.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
But interesting, Yeah, like even like Dallas, don't they go
to like California every year or something.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Camp between Dallas and and so it's not entirely it's
like Oxnard, California.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think there's something to be said
to having everybody together not at home.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Yeah. I just think it's it helps for team bonding.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
It would be even better. I know the league doesn't
do this now, but I would like to do it
in the old days. After first cuts. Yeah, you know,
you get rid of I don't mean to call them
riff raft, but the guys that really had no chance
to make the team. If I could take the guys
that have a chance to make the team and let
them bond, would be even better. You know. That's when
I would do it.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
That's at the window now.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Yeah, I don't do that anymore.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
So anyways, I just thought that was interesting. It is
Matt that's going to do it for the show today.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
All right.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
We will be back again on Friday, but for now,
for my partner Matt Williamson, for Justin Miller here on
site keeping us on the air, I'm Dale Lully. We
thank you for listening to this edition of the Drive
on the Steelers Audio Network.
