Speaker 1 (00:05):
When you think about the history of the NFL to
the early nineteen twenties and thirties, you think the Bears,
the Lions, and the Browns. The other early teams include
the Green Bay Packers, who formed in nineteen twenty and
joined the NFL in nineteen twenty one. The Steelers formed
and joined in nineteen thirty three, which means two of
the longest standing NFL franchises will meet for only the
thirty eighth time in NFL history in the last ninety

(00:27):
two years. This Sunday, welcome into another edition of the
Steelers Standard. Here in Steelers Nation Radio, part of the
Steelers Audio Network. I am at troup Enjoining me is
Jacob Brett Jacob. The Super Bowl Trophy is named Lombardi
Vince Lombardi from Green Bay, winner of the first two
Super Bowl titles.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
The Steelers have six of them.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
So yes, there's lots of history in Green Bay and
in Pittsburgh when it comes to the NFL, and that
next chapter will be written for only the thirty eighth
time this Sunday night, right here in the Burg.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah, it's gonna be a good one. I mean, there's
a lot of history. Like you mentioned, but there's also
big stakes for the modern times as well, with Aaron
Rodgers facing off against his former team.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Aaron Rodgers for the first time in his career. He
has beaten thirty one NFL teams. There's only one that
he is not because he's never faced them, and that's
the Green Bay Packers. So who'll try to become the
fifth quarterback in NFL history to have beaten all thirty
two NFL or all NFL franchises because not all five
had thirty two to pick and choose from, but to

(01:26):
beat all active NFL franchises if he can beat the
Packers this upcoming Sunday, Let's jump into our Iron City
Insight previewing Week eight Packers four to one and one
at the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are four and two at
eight twenty on Sunday Night Football. We talked about this yesterday,
but just to recap the rivalry between these two teams,
the Packers and Steelers, I said it at the open.

(01:48):
It goes all the way back ninety two years plus
back between these two historic franchises. The Packers own the
series twenty wins to seventeen for the Steelers their first meeting,
clear back during that first season for the Pittsburgh Steelers
on October fifteenth, nineteen thirty three. The largest victory was
that game, forty seven to nothing green Bay on that

(02:10):
day in October fifteenth, nineteen thirty three. The Steelers' largest
victory was thirty eight to seven in nineteen forty eight.
The longest win streak in this series, the Packers won
nine straight from nineteen thirty three to nineteen forty six.
Remember those Steeler teams early on, really up until Chuck
Nole arrived on the scene, struggled for the most part
up until the early seventies. The longest win streak for
the Steelers was four during the seventies from seventy five

(02:33):
to eighty six. And of course there's only been one
postseason meeting, and when it's NFC versus AFC, that would
only be the Super Bowl, and it was Super Bowl
forty five, the last time the Steelers played in the
Super Bowl. And of course the quarterback that day for
Green Bay in the Super Bowl MVP that day was
Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, I mean, obviously it's a sore subject for Pittsburgh fans.
It's something that was really unpredictable when it came down
to get day. If you remember, Marquis Pouncing wasn't available
for that game. Doug Lagerski, the backup, had to fill
in for him. This was going to be This was

(03:09):
built as one of the marquee quarterback matchups of that
era for the Super Bowl. Roethlisberger, who was a two
time champ, and and Rogers who was the next guy
in the line of great all time great Packers quarterbacks
behind Bart starr And and Brett Favre. And this was
Rogers taking over the mantle and could he do what
both star and and Farv did, which was win Super Bowls?

(03:33):
And it was a great game obviously. I mean the
Steelers got out to an early deficit. You remember that
pick six that bent through early on toward the near sideline.
It was it was a valiant comeback effort and then
it all came count of crashing down once Clay Matthews
forced that fumble on Rashard Mendenhall and then the Packers
scored a touchdown on that very next drive. Steelers had

(03:56):
the chance to pull off a miracle for the second
time in three years, similar to what they did against
Arizona with a game winning drive, but they just couldn't
get it going offensively. Last play at the game for
the Steelers on offense, Ben tries to find Mike Wallace,
falls incomplete, and that's all she wrote. Aaron Rodgers got
his one and only Super Bowl ring. Kind of remarkable

(04:18):
to think how great he is as an all time quarterback.
But it just goes to show how hard it is
to win a Super Bowl. I mean, there are all
time greats such as Rogers and Farv and Breeze, guys
who have only won one ring. If you remember too,
Marino never got a ring. Like it is a lot
harder than you think. Just because you're one of the

(04:39):
greats doesn't mean it's going to be handed to you
on a silver platter, that Lombardi Trophy. Larry Fitzgerald another
one from there. Yeah, sure, I was just going quarterbacks,
but yeah, I mean Barry Sanders, if you want to
go that direction, like, there are a lot of all
time great players who never got a ring. I just
thought it fits the other day Randy Moss and another
wide receiver. Yeah, good call Moss.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I thought of Fitzgerald the other day because of Super
Bowl forty three, in which the Steelers beat the Cardinals
their last Super Bowl victory. And that's a game in
which Larry Fitzgerald was shut out of a Super Bowl victory.
So there was that in Super Bowl forty five that
we want to not remember if you're in Steeler Nation.
The last time these two teams met, the Steelers won
twenty three to nineteen. When we talked about this game

(05:19):
yesterday as well, November twelfth, twenty twenty three, This win
continued the Steeler streak of the current win streak of
five in a row at home against the Green Bay Packers.
The Steelers sealed the win at home when safety de
Monte Kaz intercepted Packers quarterback Jordan Love on the final
play at the two yard line.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
And you looked it up yesterday, Caz still playing. He's
with the Browns. Yeah. I remember seeing his name pop
up when we were previewing that matchup against the Browns
two weeks ago and seeing his name there, I was like,
what the heck is he doing in Cleveland? I had
no idea, but yeah, let's jump into the Green Bay
Packers scouting report for one and one on the season.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
They won last week twenty seven to twenty three against
the Arizona Cardinals on the road.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Prior week before that, they beat.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
The Bengals at home by the final score of twenty
seven to eighteen. Their only loss on the season was
that thirteen to ten hiccup in Week three at Cleveland
at the Browns, and so far in the division, they're
rat in the mix of things in the NFC North
with the Lions. It's a very good division. Other than
the Vikings losing last night. The Bears are four and two.
We know where the Lions are right there each and

(06:28):
every year the last few years as being one of
the top dogs in the NFC North, and the Packers
have a long standing tradition, Jacob, of being one of
those top teams in that division, and once again it
looks like it's going to play out that way. The
Bears might sneak into that conversation, but after they could
be tricky after the Vikings lost last night, which we'll
talk about in our third segment today when we preview
Week eight and we'll recap Thursday Night football from last night.

(06:51):
I think this is a two division race right now
between the Packers and Lions and maybe the Bear sneak
into that conversation.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Yeah, I think those are the two teams in this
race right now that are head and shoulders above everyone else.
I mean, we'll talk a little bit later about how
Minnesota looked last night. Not great. I'm sure you saw
the footage of Carson Wentz slamming his helmet on the sideline.
So it doesn't look like Minnesota will be that what
fifteen and two team like they were last year. But
I think it does come down to those three teams,

(07:19):
the Bears and then the Packers and Lions. Do the
Bears have enough in them this week? We'll certainly be
telling can they take advantage of another Lamar less Ravens
team in Baltimore against that really bad Ravens defense? They do?
They improve too? I believe five and two and that's
no slouch man. I mean, the Bears have to be

(07:40):
taken seriously, especially for Pittsburgh who will be traveling to
Chicago in a couple of weeks. But yeah, three teams
that are exciting in that division. But I think you
were right that the Lions and the Packers stand above
the Bears right now, and the Packers have the tiebreakers
so far. Off they do. And I do think though
that in time we've seen the Lions really take to

(08:01):
the next level. They've really rebounded very well from that game.
Their other loss in the year was against Kansas City.
They came back from that game looking great. So I
think things are going pretty well in Detroit despite that
opening Week one loss in green Bay. Remember that game
was in green Bay, so the second game will be
in Detroit. That the Lions should win that game and

(08:23):
even that tiebreaker for the Packers, and then it comes
down to the division record, so it just depends on
who does better in that category.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
By the way, between the Bengals and Browns game for
the Packers, I forgot about that game at Dallas in
which they tied forty to forty in a wild one
that went back and for that.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Tie could be tricky coming the end of the season. Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
They started the season out with that win against the Lions.
Did the green Bay Packers twenty seven to thirteen at home?
Also at home in Week two against the Commanders, So
two NFC victories for green Bay to start out the season.
They defeated the Commanders twenty seven to eighteen. You know,
you look at their schedule interesting that they only have one.
They have this away game this Sunday night, and then
they're at home the next two against the Panthers and Eagles.

(09:04):
Then they go to the Giants, then there at home
against the Vikings. So three out of their next four
games after the Steeler game this Sunday Night for Green
Bay will be at lambeau Field and as we know,
just like Akuscher Stadium here in Pittsburgh, not an easy
place to go into and try to get a road victory.
So that'll be a plus for the green Bay Packers.
Let's start breaking it down for green Bay. We'll start

(09:25):
on offense, and you start with Jordan Love, the talented quarterback.
In six games played this season, has completed sixty nine
percent of his passes one twenty two of one to
seventy six for four hundred and thirty eight yards. So
he's closing in on a fifteen hundred yard passing season
only through the first six games. I'm sure he'll get
there this Sunday in his seventh game so far the season.

(09:46):
So he's averaging Jacob about eight point two yards per pass,
not bad in two hundred and thirty nine yards per game.
He has ten touchdowns on the season and two interceptions,
and Jordan Love has been sacked ten times so far
this season.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Jordan Love a roller coaster of a ride in my.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Opinion, Jacob through his first few seasons since he took
over for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, he has shown
splashes of what he could be very good, and there's
been other times where he struggled. But I think it's
been more the supporting cast around him on offense. When
when we've seen Jordan Love struggle at that quarterback position,
the Packers have had injuries, they've been banged up. Their
talent maybe not as great as it has been. When

(10:24):
he does shine, When he does shine and he has
his full range of wide receivers, he's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, I mean he's great. There's a reason this team
moved on from Aaron Rodgers, right, They wouldn't have done
so with note with Mason Rudolph equivalent at quarterback. I mean,
you can't just say to yourself, this guy is a
four time MVP. And remember that that last MVP came
in twenty twenty one, which was just what two years

(10:51):
before they decided to move on from Rogers. So it
wasn't like he was really in the sunset of his
care or time spend in Green Bay. He wasn't showing
a lot of slne signs of slowing down. I think
there was some playoff disappointment, right. You remember they were
upset at home against the Niners in the snow. They

(11:13):
played an NFC championship game also at home against Tampa
Bay where Tom Brady came to town. So I gotta understand
the frustration there. But still Aaron Rodgers on an individual level,
was playing great football toward the end of his simon
Green Bay. It was just came to that those burned
bridges really that ended up in that divorce, or that

(11:34):
resulted in that divorce. But yeah, as I was saying earlier,
there there was a reason the Packers felt comfortable moving
on from Rogers because they had Jordan Love in the
waiting rookie in that twenty twenty draft class. Great. I mean,
when you look back at it, you have guys like
Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and now Jordan Love. Jalen Hirts
was also in that one, if I'm remembering correctly. So, yeah,

(11:56):
four guys who are probably going to be one of
the face of the of the league if if not
for Patrick Mahomes, right, I mean, Pat Mahomes is clearly
the face of the NFL and has been really since
he he took over the starting job for Alex Smith
all those years ago. But those four guys, Hurts, Love, Burrow,
and Herbert, all four teams are pretty happy with their

(12:16):
their guys right now. The Packers, though, are looking to
make that next step with with Jordan Love. We know
that Jalen Hurst just won a Super Bowl, Joe Burrow's
gotten to one. Justin Herbert still looking for his first
playoff victory last night looked good last night, sure, but
still has it's crazy five seasons zero playoff Whensia. But

(12:37):
maybe this year with a new coach in Harbough. But
then looking at Jordan Love, I mean they came with
They came to within one score against San Francisco last year,
or maybe that was two years ago in the playoffs.
They were right there on the cusp of beating them
and they couldn't get it done. It was two years
ago now now that I remember it correctly. But yeah,

(12:57):
the Packers, man, they really are a legitimate team, and
that's all because of Jordan Love. You have to have
a quarterback in this football gue if you want to
be a legitimate playoff threat. And the Packers right now,
for one on one, they had that weird stint with
back to back weeks the loss against Green Bay or
the loss against Cleveland and the tie against Dallas. But

(13:18):
what I'll say, what I'll amend about the Packers tie
is the Packers look to be like I'm sorry, the
Cowboys look to be like a halfway decent team. Of course,
their their defense is terrible and it's Swiss cheese, but
their offense is legitimate. I mean, Dak Prescott went upright,
is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. Chavonte
Williams your guy having a career resurrecting season. And then

(13:40):
they brought over George Pickens to add alongside Ceedee Lamb.
That offense is legit. So for the fact that Jordan
Love was able to keep pace and score forty points
alongside Dak Prescott, that's a legitimate effort. So yeah, I
know it's hard to judge a tie, and probably we're
all saying to ourselves, the Packers should have won that game.
You're a better team, Your defense should have done a

(14:00):
better job containing Dak Prescott in that Dallas defense, But
credit to Jordan Love for actually finding the end zone
enough forty points. That's no small feet in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Looking at Jordan Love's career statistics, this is technically his
third full season as the starter in Green Bay twenty one,
twenty two, his rookie season twenty twenty one, and then
twenty twenty two. Not much to really ride home about,
but it was twenty twenty three at a huge year,
over forty one hundred yards passing, thirty two touchdowns, eleven
interceptions twenty twenty four. Last season just over thirty three

(14:32):
hundred yards passing. Took a little bit of a step
back in that category and with touchdowns with twenty five.
But again, as I said earlier, Jacob, a lot of
that had to do with a lot of injuries in
Green Bay last season, and he also threw eleven interceptions,
so his first two years as a starter eleven picks
Moost seasons, He's already thrown two so far this year
in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
But yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
I mean, jan Jordan Love is a threat and he's
also a threat on the ground.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
He's a mobile quarterback.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
And let's while we're talking about the ground, let's jump
into the rushing statistics and I'll give you Loves first,
and then we'll talk about Josh Jacobs. Just to finish up
on Jordan Love, he has carried the ball twenty four
times for one hundred and ten yards rushing the football,
running the football this year, no touchdowns yet, so he
can also make plays and extend plays. Maybe if he
doesn't get past the line of scrimmage dah to keep

(15:21):
the ball on a keeper, he can at least extend
plays enough where his receivers can get open and he can.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Dump the football off.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
So a dual threat with Jordan Love at the quarterback
position for the Packers. Let's talk Josh Jacobs. Yeah, we
have to one hundred and eleven carries. Good season so far,
four hundred and fourteen yards rushing, three point seven yards
per carry, eight touchdowns on the year.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
That's what stands out to me. Jacob is eight rushing.
I think he's got rushing touchdowns total through the air
as well. He has. Now you're making me work for it.
Josh Jacobs has no touchdowns in the airs, really, so
I was incorrect, then that's okay. But still the fact
that he he's got eight touchdowns through seven games played
huge and that's scarm sorry six games played because the

(16:05):
Hackers actually already had their bye week.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Yeah, I mean, but still, I mean, he's he's putting
up you know, close to what just just about you know,
under one hundred yards per game rushing, but with eight touchdowns,
that's almost two touchdowns a game running running wise, right,
that's that could be an issue for the Steelers, who
we know they got gouged last week with Chase Brown,
so Josh Jacobs is going to be a threat this week.

(16:28):
They have another running back and Emmanuel Wilson who has
twenty four carries for just one hundred and one yards.
He spells Jacobs throughout, So yeah, this is the Josh
Jacobs show. And you know, he's been one of those
one of those running backs throughout his NFL career that
in the red zone, especially inside the ten. He is
a big, bruising running back, much like a Jerome Bettis

(16:50):
type runner. Right, we know very well around here that
you're going to give that ball to in short yard
situation and he's going to deliver.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Yeah, I mean, I think Josh Jacobs is year. I'mry
focus for the running back, but you have to I mean,
you've seen the Steelers get gouged by backups before. You
remember Gus Edwards in Baltimore all those years Gary Sedley.
No matter who was in front of him, whether it
was Derrick Henry or JK. Dobbins, Gus Edwards always just
had a big day. So the Steelers had to say

(17:17):
discipline against the run, no matter who's lining up for
the Packers, whether it's Jacobs or the backup.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Romeo Dobbs is the other big wide receiver. When you
take a look at the receiving numbers so far this season,
he has thirty six targets twenty four receptions for three
hundred and six yards four touchdowns. Matthew Golden was also drafted.
He has eighteen catches for on twenty three targets for
two hundred and forty nine yards, no touchdowns yet. Jacobs

(17:43):
doesn't have the touchdown numbers, but he's actually fourth on
the team in receiving. Jacob with one hundred and seventy
nine yards receiving on sixteen catches, So yeah, he's active
out of the backfield as a receiver too.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
So your your point was, I minsed on the touchdowns,
but he's still active in the pass game. Yeah, exactly.
I mean they have a lot of mouths to feed.
I mean you haven't mentioned his name yet, but Tucker
Craft as a tight end, I mean he is one
of the top tens tight ends in the league. Remember
we talked about this earlier this week. They're getting back
Christian Watson. That's gonna be a huge addition. They just

(18:15):
have a lot they're they're very good. They they're very
deep at wide receiver. But as as we've talked about,
they don't have that star, they don't have that number
one stud at that position. But still, what's what's so
dangerous about Jordan Love is is he does a good
job of getting everybody involved. And that's what you have
to be worried about. Uh this this coming Sunday night.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yep, Tucker Craft is number one on the team and receiving. Yeah,
at the tight end spot, thirty two targets, twenty three
receptions for three hundred and twenty six yards and four touchdowns.
So you know, with just with that combination of Dobbs
and Craft, they each have eight total touchdowns receiving so
far this season, so that that definitely stands out to me.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Don't forget about Jaden Reed too.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Not so much of an impact so far this year,
only forty five yards receiving in a touchdown, But previous
seasons Jaden Reid has been a big target from a
wide receiver standpoint. Remember, the Steelers sometimes can shut down
the number one wide receiver, but then one of these
number twos or number threes will sneak in right, They'll
they'll have a big catch down the middle of the
football field for a sixty five or seventy yard gain

(19:19):
out of the balloon, and you're like, I've never even
heard of this guy, so you heard it here first.
Jaden Reid is another name to watch coming out because
I don't think Wix, their other wide receiver, is gonna play.
I think he's doubtful. He's been out. So he's their
other big target. But Golden, you know, very good wide
receiver on this team. So yeah, they got some weapons
on offense and Josh Jacobs on the ground. Jordan Love

(19:41):
the dual threat with throwing the football and also taken
off and extending plays and running the football you got
Craft a tight end, and the Steelers have gotten killed
by some tight ends over the years, so they're gonna
have to watch that as well with Craft. So yeah,
this offense can definitely put up some points, and they've
put up some points this year, and the Steelers are
gonna have to be ready on defense. And as we've
talked about all week, Jacob, this is a big response

(20:01):
game for this Pittsburgh Steeler defense was last week against
Cincinnati on Thursday night just a blimp on the radar,
a speed bump or is it going to start to
unravel like it did last year? So that to me
is what I'm watching on Sunday night for defense. Do
they bounce back, Have they made the adjustments this week
to be what we think they could be or is
it just more of the same.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Yeah. My worry is that you had the easy opportunity
against Cincinnati to really collect yourselves soundly defensively. You could
have said, hey, Chase Brown has been a non factor,
Joe Flacco's forty years old, Let's beat the hell out
of these guys. And that's not at all what happened.
You allow over thirty points and you lose the game

(20:42):
and now all of a sudden, you're actually playing real talent.
You're playing Jordan Love who he said it was one
of the better young quarterbacks in the league. Josh Jacobs,
I think tied for second or at the very top
of touchdown score by a running back so far this season.
Then I'm just looking ahead. You have the Indianapolis Colts

(21:03):
next week. They're the number one scoring offense in football.
Jonathan Taylor is the number one running back in yards
per game this season. Tyler Warren one of the better
young tight ends emerging as a rookie this year. Then
you look to the week after that. Look what San
Diego the Chargers just did last night against Minnesota. Justin
Herbert had a three touchdown performance even though they don't

(21:25):
have Amrio and Hampton and Aja Harris. I'm blanking on
the running backs name, but the backup had a huge
nine against a very good as we know, as we're
familiar with, that Minnesota defense is no joke. But the
the my gosh, it's gonna kill me what that kid's
name is? Whoever? The backup is in La taking over

(21:45):
the candles for yes, thank you.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
The one hundred and seventeen yards and a touchdown. I cheated,
though I looked at all that.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
That's all right. That's say, man, if you were able
to get on it before I did, that's that's perfectly fine.
But anyways, he's a rookie, right, I had no idea,
but he is. He is the number one guy because
Naj is out for the year and Omar and Hampton
I believe is on the ir the long term. I are.
So it's vitals backfield right now, command and there you go.
And and as I mentioned too, Justin Herbert has three

(22:13):
Touchdower got three touchdowns last line against Minnesota. It is
a daunting schedule. I know they play the Browns coming
up in between then and then they play the Bengals
at some point. But then they have to go to
They have to go to Chicago, which is a team
that we just talked about saying how dangerous they can be.
They have to play Buffalo, who I'm sure will by
that point bounce back offensively. They'll have to play Baltimore

(22:36):
on the road, which by that point I'm sure I
can't imagine Lamar will be out that long getting into December.
And then if you also recall too, at the very end,
of the season third to last week is to go
to Detroit, one of the most threatening offenses, the team
that we talked about at the beginning of the segment
in the NFL, not just this year, but in the
last three years combined. So it's gonna be a tall

(22:58):
task for them defensively. And this is really you could say,
besides I guess Seattle, who does really well with that
connection with Sam Darnold to Jackson Smith and Jigba, and
considering how well the Bengals looked last week, but this
is really the most complete team I would say that
you're facing so far this season is the Green Bay Packers.

(23:18):
So it's certainly a tall task they have ahead of themselves.
And I don't know. I mean, if you're looking for
a sign that they're going to turn things around, that
sign certainly didn't come last week against Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Just to circle back around on the LA Chargers, running
back Kamani bydel second year out of Troy, so this
is his second season and last night one hundred and
seventeen yards rushing in a touchdown. I on even bring
himup because we'll talk about him in a couple of
weeks when they face the Chargers a few weeks I
should say down the road, but thank you, Jacob. I'm
going to pick him up on my fantasy football team
for next week.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
I think you're too late, so I owe you. He's
probably think you're too late. I think he's already he's
already taking y Yeah, he's probably already gone. Okay.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Some defensive stats on the Packers as we continue our
scouting report on Green Bay led by O Rashaun Gary.
They have some really good defensive ends and Gary being
one of them, a five and a half sacks so
far this season, twenty total tackles, five tackle for losses.
Micah Parsons. They have some good defensive ends, don't they
some good edge rushers yep. They acquired Micah Parsons earlier

(24:18):
this season via trade of the Cowboys. He has stepped
right in with five and a half sacks so far
on the season, sixteen tackles, five tackle for losses. And
then they also have a defensive tackle and Devonte Wyatt
who has two sacks on the year six total tackles,
he has nine nine or excuse me, two tackle for
losses and two pass deflections. And Lucas van Ness another

(24:41):
good defensive end on this team, though he's banged up
a little bit. We'll talk about that in our next
segment when we get the injuries for both the Steelers
and Packers going into Sunday night. But van Ness eleven
tackles in a sack and a half so far this year.
But let's face it, it's the Micah Parsons defense when we.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Talk about Green Bay. Yeah, absolutely, it started with Micah Parsons.
I mean that was the biggest splash you could say,
maybe besides Aaron Rodgers this pass offseason and in terms
of a free agent acquisition or even trade. Yeah, Michaeh
Parsons is is that that heart and soul of that
Packers defense. And we know how good it is and

(25:17):
how good it's really been all year long. The only
time they had a pretty poor performance was against Dallas,
and you know Dallas is one of the better offenses
in football. But look what they did. Look what that
defensive against Detroit in Week one held them to only
thirteen points. In Week two, Jayden Daniels held them to
only eighteen points. They've done a really sound job except

(25:38):
for that one tie. They've done a great job of
holding teams to a low scoring output and keeping them
off the field and allowing their offense to really control
the time of possession.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
When you look at their safeties, Alexander was released in
the offseason, signed with Yeah, Baltimore, Yeah, the Ravens, Right,
but they have two good ones that they've put back
there in their secondary. And Evan Williams who has thirty
nine total tackles on the season, one tackle for loss
and one interception, two pass deflections. And Xavier McKinney, who
has thirty.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Six camps they got from Kansas City, who's been a
huge asset to them. That's right, they picked them up
from the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Thirty six total tackles, three pass deflections and one interception.
So as a team, they only have two picks Williams
and McKinney their two safeties with both of those interceptions.
Looking at some team stats for Green Bay through Jacob,
you said six games, right, Yeah, they're four to one
on one, Yeah the bye already. They are averaging twenty
six points per game. They are averagingred. They have one

(26:36):
hundred and twenty five first downs on the year. Here's
the third down conversions that I wanted to look up.
They are at forty nine percent on offense on third downs,
defensively thirty six percent on the season. And then as
we scroll down through we look at penalties, they've had
fifty penalties for three hundred and seventy nine yards. That's
an average of sixty three penalty yards per game. Time

(26:59):
of pass zession. They're about even on their offense and defense,
offensively averaging just over thirty minutes per game of thirty
minutes fifty three seconds and defensively thirty minutes and forty
six seconds, So they're about fifty to fifty on time
of possession so far this season. So that's a look
at the Green Bay Packers, who again will visit Akor
Shore Stadium this weekend at a four to one and

(27:20):
one record, Jacob. It is a historic series between the
two teams, as we talked about at the open, the
Green Bay Packers going all the way back the nineteen
twenty when they were formed and they joined the NFL
in nineteen twenty one, and we know the Steelers nineteen
thirty three, their first year that they were formed in
a member of the NFL. So the thirty eighth time
that these two teams will meet in the last ninety

(27:42):
two years, and that's hence one of the reasons why
the Steelers picked this game to where their nineteen thirty
three throwback uniforms.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
I'm sure, yeah, which you're not a big fan of. Nope, oh,
thank you? Still still stay. I mean, you know, I
know people don't love the Bumblebees, but I'd rather the
Bumblebees than this.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Well, either way, we're going to see him on Sunday
at Akershore Stadium. So that'll do it for the Standard
for this segment. When we come back, Jacob and I
will jump into our keys of the game. We'll also
check the injury report for the Steelers and Packers in
our three Rivers confluent segment. Up next, it is the
Steelers Standard with Ed Troop and Jacob Brett on the
