Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Steelers Standard with Ed Troup and Jacob
Brext on Steelers Nation Radio, part of the Steelers Audio Network.
The last couple of days, Jacob, we've been talking a
lot about the Steelers Browns this Sunday, one o'clock, Week six.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Steelers don't lose this game on Sunday, right.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
And don't make me say it, mind, don't put me
in that trap position.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Oh boy, please please tell I mean, everything we've talked about,
all these intangibles, all these records, all these statistics, they
all point towards the Steelers on Sunday coming up with
their fourth victory of twenty twenty five. I think there's
one thing we can't agree on, low scoring in a dogfight,
because it doesn't matter what the records are, where the
teams are, who's been traded in this week, Cleveland's moved
(00:45):
a bunch of guys around. With Flacco and al Newsom
going to Jacksonville and the Steelers coming off their bye
week and the rest and Cleveland traveling back from Europe.
All signs and indications are a Steeler win on Sunday.
But we've been fooled before, and I think that's why.
As Steeler fans or guys that cover the team were
always hesitant to say any given Sunday, right, any team
(01:07):
can do anything. But the Steeers have won twenty one
straight games at home against the Browns.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
You cannot lose this game, ye in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
In the regular season, you gotta stress that because the
wildcard loss in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
So that I mean that that wildcard loss. Those show
proves that point. Right, any given Sunday, any anytime two
NFL teams go head to head, anything can happen. And
I think another example of that is when Cleveland hosted
green Bay a couple of weeks ago. I don't think
anyone predicted that Green Bay was going to lose that game,
and behold, look Cleveland did. Granted it was in a
very fluky manner, right as I pointed out earlier, and
(01:40):
as we all know from a couple of weeks ago,
it was Jordan Love who threw that untimely interception late
in the game, and then Cleveland and then sorry, rather,
green Bay was in position again to take the lead
and win the game, but they didn't because they had
that field goal that was blocked, which set the Browns
(02:02):
up in a positive field position to then eventually kick
their own game winning field goal.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
So yeah, it was just a weird game.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
But like you said, any given Sunday, anything can happen,
and that's exactly what happened for the Browns that week.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
So I can't predict. Now.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Granted that game was in Cleveland, I think it may
have gone differently if that game was played in Green Bay.
This week it's playing it's being played in Pittsburgh, which
should help. I mean we've gone over this one hundred times.
The stars aligning for the Steelers to win this game,
the reasons why the Steelers should win this game. But
you can have all the reasons go in your favor,
(02:41):
and when it comes down to it comes Sunday, anything
can happen. So I'm not going to just take take
solace and all and all the stars aligning for the
Steelers to win this game.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
We've been fooled before, but my goodness, they have a
rookie quarterback, a rookie running back. They've made all these
moves and just just this week alone and giving up
there one of their star defenders, their veteran quarterback, if
he has to come in.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
But you know, I guess the other thing too. And
you mentioned this, and.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
We'll get into our rest of our previews here for
Week six across the NFL, but you brought this point up.
I think it was yesterday that when the Steelers played
the Colts. Was that last year and Richardson goes out
right and it was Flacco who came in and beat
the Steelers. So Flacco's gone, but they have another veteran
quarterback and Bailey Zappi, who beat the Steelers a couple
of years ago. So the worst case scenario for them
(03:29):
might be if Gabriel, the rookie quarterback, gets knocked out
and Zappy comes in who beat him a couple of
years ago and upset them. So yeah, keep Gabriel in
this game, but don't let him beat you. Steelers Browns
Sunday at one. We'll end this segment with our picks
of the week for that between Jacob and I. But
let's go around the AFC North first on Sunday, Rams
Ravens at one o'clock in Baltimore. The Ravens we know
(03:51):
one and four, the Rams three and two. Lamar did
not practice yesterday on Wednesday. We'll have to wait and
see if he goes today or tomorrow. He's officially questionable
for this Sunday against the Rams.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah. Man, it's just for the Ravens. It's tough to
climb out of that hole, especially without Lamar. But I
looked to what they did last week. You know, it
was the first game without Lamar, and they got trounced
by Houston, right forty four points, that the only ten
on offense. So knowing how, I know, it's tough to say,
(04:26):
you know, oh, it's not fair. We lost our star quarterback,
so of course we're gonna struggle. But look at how
bad that defense is.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I mean, yeah, you.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Could excuse maybe the losses earlier that came in the
season when Lamar was healthy. When they played against the
Bills an opening week, when they had a shot to
win that game. You remember, they were up by like
fifteen points in that fourth quarter, but the Bills were
able to come back. And then a couple of weeks
later they played Detroit, allowed thirty eight points against the Lions.
(04:55):
The very next week, they allowed thirty seven points against
the Chiefs. So you're thinking, okay, well, maybe just the
elite offense is the best teams in the NFL. You
remember Buffalo has the reigning MVP and Josh Allen that
the Lions are. We were in the NFC championship game
two years ago and they got They had the number
one overall seed last year, or I guess the number
(05:18):
two overall seed in the NFC last year, behind only
the Eagles. The Chiefs are three time defending AFC champions.
But then you have the Houston Texans, who were really
struggling on offense even dating back to last year, and
they scored forty four points. I mean, you can't just say, oh,
it's because of our of our quarterback being out. The
defense is a liability, and I just have a feeling,
(05:39):
considering the connection between Pukinnakua and Matthew Stafford on the Rams,
I have a feeling you might see a similar score
to what you saw against Houston last week, and.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
That defense does not look good.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Through the first five games, even when Lamar was healthy,
the defense was still given up a lot of points.
Hard to imagine, but it's a very big possibility. You
just mentioned that the Ravens go to one in five
and lose back to back games at home in Baltimore,
just like the Steelers. The Ravens have always been very
good in the Inner Harbor, and this week against a
Rams team that's three and two and Matt Stamford at
(06:13):
quarterback Williams right running back Nakua, one of the leading
receivers in the NFL, that defense is going to be
tested for the Ravens and one in five could be
a realistic possibility after Sunday at one o'clock. The other
game in the AFC North features the Bengals, another team
reeling in the division at two and three, as they
visit the one and one Packers, who are coming off
(06:33):
their bye week just like the Steelers. This game in
the four to twenty five national audience window. The Bengals
acquire Joe Flacco from Cleveland just two days ago, and
it was announced yesterday or this morning, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
I just saw it this morning.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Could have been announced yesterday that the Bengals are going
to start Joe Flacco, So he will start in Green
Bay this week as the starting quarterback for the Bengals.
He's in for Jake Browning, who's out, who has not
looked good in the last three games as the Bengals
have lost three.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
In a row No, I mean, it's gonna be an
ugly another ugly day. I mean, I know Joe Flacco
is could be a breath of fresh air for the Bengals,
but you're going against I mean, we just talked about this,
how if the Browns have played in Green Bay rather
than in Cleveland, that game could have gone a lot differently. Well,
the Bengals don't have that favor, right this game is
(07:22):
being played in Green Bay. I have a feeling the
Packers after these last two wacky weeks, right losing against
Cleveland and having that tie come against the Pack or
the Cowboys, they have the bye week, similar to the
Steelers last week, to really refocus and set things straight.
I think they're gonna I think this could be a
blowout for the Packers against the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Talked about defenses have not played well. Same story in
Cincinnati last three games. If you're gonna have forty eight
points to the Vikings, twenty eight to the Broncos, and
thirty seven to the Lions. And that was our closest
game was the Lions. But that's only because that was
all garbage side, Yeah, garbage time in the fourth quarter.
They scored twenty one points in the fourth quarter with
mostly the backups. And by the way, yesterday yesterday, Zach
(08:05):
Taylor announces that Joe Flacco will be starting this Sunday
in Green Bay. Other games will start with tonight, the
Thursday night matchup the four and one Eagles at the
one and four Giants. Boy, these Thursday night games are
rough sometimes, and this appears to be another one. Giants
going in the opposite direction. Eagles trying to bounce back
after their first loss of the season last week against
Denver at home.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Again, anything can happen.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
We keep talking about anything can happen between the Steelers
and Browns and all these other games, but once again,
it's hard to think that the Eagles will lose this
one in New York.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Yeah, a lot of the time the NFL did recognize
that they were pretty much putting up crap matchups on
that Thursday night slate. But they've gotten better at it.
And one thing they do that's helpful as well is
they put a lot of divisional rivals right last week.
I mean, you remember San Francisco, who was so beaten
up without Brock Purty, without George Kittle, without either of
(09:00):
their receivers, not just not just Ayuk, but you remember
Percell I believe was out and and Juwan Jennings may
have also been out for that game. They were really depleted.
The Rams were the heavy favorite. The game is played
in LA and the Rams still lost. So they do,
at least to you, the favor of putting teams that
really don't like each other up against each other.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Including next week.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Remember when the Sewers have to go on the road
and play against the division rival in the Cincinnati Bengals.
So I know Thursday night, You know it doesn't sound
appealing for and one Philadelphia against one in four New York.
But those rivals, man, really anything can happen, and especially
when they're playing on Thursday night, those are always such
fluky games. And another thing, too, is that this game
(09:45):
is playing being played in New York. If it was
being played in Philly, I'd say, yeah, I don't expect
the Giants to go into Philadelphia, one of the hardest
places to.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Win and win that game.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
But this game is playing in being played in New York,
so I don't know if it's going to be the
blowout everyone predicts the line. Right now, I'm looking at
it set at seven and a half in Philly's favor,
not to say that the Giants are gonna cover that,
but it won't be something. I don't think it's gonna
be an outlandish score. I mean, we've seen Jalen Hurts
really struggle. They are one of the worst passing offenses
in football. It's gonna come down to Takuon Barkley and
(10:18):
what he can do in addition to Jalen Hurts on
the run game. You remember that defensive front for New
York pretty good. I mean they they did a pretty
good job against the Steelers. Was it last year when
they when they faced off?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, last year.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
They have, as I said, just one of the best
defensive fronts, right Dexter Lawrence Brian Burns, who came over
just a year ago or two years ago. So, I
don't know if it's gonna be a terrible game. It
won't be a I don't know. I think it will
be the best game of the year. But I don't
think it's gonna be a terrible game either.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Yeah, the Giants, that has not been their weakness their defense.
It's been their offense. And they got Jackson Dart now
their first was it their first round draft pick this
past year for the Giants Jackson Dart. No, he wasn't
picked up that early, right, No, he was their second
round draft pick. Yeah, yeah, the first round, but twenty
fifth pick I'm looking at now. Carter from Penn State
was their first pick at number three. They had two
(11:08):
first round draft picks and Jackson Dart was taking twenty fifth.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
The early game on Sunday, another international game in the morning,
features the Jets as they look for their first win
of the season against the Broncos. Broncos three and two.
After that big win in Philadelphia nine to thirty am
in London, the Jets maybe they have to go to
international Soil Jacob to try to get their first win
of the season. They're zero and five and they are
(11:34):
in desperately need of a win.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah. This is really the stinker.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
I mean, I think most international games aren't really billed
as marquee matchups. In this one is included. The Broncos
don't need to take care of business, don't get tricky
with it, don't get cute with it. Just go into London,
take care of business. Beat the Jets and proved to
four and two.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Easy enough, right, and I think the Broncos. I mean again,
we know how good their defenses. Both Nicks starting to
heat up.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
JK.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Dobbins doing very well in the backfield for this Denver
Bronco team. And again they go into Baltimore last week
and or excuse me, Philadelphia last week and did Texans
going to Baltimore and win last week? Bronco's going to
Philly and give Philly their first loss. So now they
face an zero to five Jets to continue to have
their problems and their struggles. Next up one o'clock games,
(12:22):
Let's start with Cardinals and Colts. Cardinals two and three,
Colts four and one. The Steelers will play the Colts
in a few weeks, but up first for the Colts
before that is a home game against the Cardinals, and
again another game in which you would expect Indianapolis all
of a sudden, the number one team in the AFC,
to continue to roll against the Cardinals team that does
not look good this season at two and three.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Now, the Cardinals really got off to a good start,
but against bad opponents. Remember they played the NFC South
and back to back weeks and won those games, but
then they lost to the two division rivals, the Niners
and Seahawks, and you thought maybe they were gonna have
a get right game against Tennessee, but lo and behold,
they had such a wild loss. I think Tennessee was
down twenty one to three or twenty one to six
(13:04):
at some point, and you remember the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
The Cardinals had the chance to go up twenty eight
to six, but that kid fumbled as he was crossing
the goal line and that probably would have put the
game away. So yeah, the Cardinals are in a free
fall right now, and I just think the Colts are
going to be going to show that they're further proved
that they are for real this year. That offense is
for real. I mean, everyone's kind of clicking on all cylinders.
(13:30):
Daniel Jones has been a huge surprise, but Jonathan Taylor
has been the best running back in football this year,
and then the receivers, Michael Pittman has been a huge
asset and the rookie out of Penn State familiar face
Tyler Warren has been a huge asset at that position
for the Colts.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
So I think it should be an easy win for Indy.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Speaking of a free fall, That's where the Dolphins are
right now at one four. They're up next as they
will host this upcoming Sunday the LA Chargers, who have
lost two straight.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Yeah. Right, both teams are kind of strug I mean,
obviously the Dolphins struggling more or so with the Chargers
after a three h start. You just can never trust
that lightning bolt on the side of the helmet, right,
They just never do what you expect them to do.
They should probably win this. They should win this game,
will they? I actually don't know. I just think that
the Chargers can year after year after year. Do the
(14:19):
Chargers like thing where they just lose games that they shouldn't.
I think they definitely should have beaten the Giants a
couple of weeks ago. I thought they were the better
team against Washington last week that wasn't the case. Yeah,
if you were to ask me after week three, I
would have told you this is going to be a blowout.
But following these last two losses for the Chargers, I
(14:40):
really don't know where I stand.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
And the Chargers three straight wins against divisional opponents in
the NFC was West. That's the good news for them.
They're three to zero within the division, but now two
straight losses in Miami one and four.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
They got to save their season this week.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
If they get a win, they could maybe climb back
into things and make this somewhat of a season, but
a loss to one in five pretty much will put
them on the out looking in from the rest of
the way. Another AFC East team the New England Patriots,
who are now three and two. Coming off their big
Sunday Night victory in Buffalo at the Bills, they will
travel to the one and four Saints, who got their
(15:14):
first win last week. Did the Saints they get another
home game here in New Orleans, the face a Patriots team.
Last week, by the way, New Orleans beating the Giants
at home twenty six to fourteen. Now they get the Patriots,
who roll in the talent with Mike Rabel. Coming off
a big Sunday Night win, will be a letdown game
for the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Potentially, Yeah, it could be, but I don't predict that.
I think the Patriots are the better team here. The Saints,
as we've discussed before, one of the worst teams in
football this year. I think the Patriots should be able
to even though it's hard. I mean It's funny you
and I had this conversation ongoing about the hardest places
to play in football. The megan omer the Superdome in
(15:54):
New Orleans used to be one of the hardest places
to go into, one of the few stadiums in the NFL, well,
one of the few cities in the NFL that Ben
Roethlisberger never registered a win in. Right, how about that
never got a win in New Orleans because of how
strong that Superdome is in La In la In in Louisiana.
(16:14):
In New Orleans, yeah, I mean, I don't think it's
it's carrying that same weight anymore. This team has been
really bad pretty much ever since Drew Brees left the team.
There were maybe it was like a one season when
Andy Dalton kind of came in and took them to
a barely five hundred record, but other than that, it
seem has been a bottom feeder in the NFL. So
(16:37):
I think the Patriots should be able to take care
of business in New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Next up the two to two and one. Well, you
hate when you get these ties for these teams. Right,
The Packers and Cowboys tied a few weeks back, So
we talked about the Packers earlier with that tie, Well,
the Cowboys have the other one two to two and
one as they travel to take on a two to
three Carolina Panther team that's coming off a twenty seven
to twenty four win against those Miami Dolphins. We were
(17:02):
just mentioning two out of the last three games Carolina's
won after an O two start. They beat the Falcons
thirty nothing. They lose to the Patriots badly forty two
to thirteen, before beating the Dolphins twenty seven to twenty four.
They get the Cowboys at home, does Carolina, and they're
gonna try to get the five hundred if they can
beat the Cowboys at home.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I think the Cowboys are such a weird team. Their
offense and defense are just night and day different.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Right.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Their offense is great when Dak Prescott is healthy, and
they've looked great even with alet ceed Lamb, Right, you
remember he was out last week and I think the
last couple of weeks rather, and they put forty points
against Green Bay, they put it thirty seven against the Jets.
It's all Dak Prescott, it's all George Pickens, it's all
Javonte Williams.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
But that defense, I mean, it's just so bad. However,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Think the Panthers offense is gonna be good enough to
keep pace with the Cowboys offense. It could be a
high scoring game. The Panthers could get some good points
in there, but I do think the Cowboys will just
eventually have the last laugh score more points at the
end of the day. It might be a one touchdown
two touchdown kind of deficit for Dallas taking down Carolina.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Seattle is three and two.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
They will visit the four and one Jaguars this Sunday
at one o'clock. The Jaguars coming off that big Monday
night win against the Chiefs at home, and they win
the game right at the end. The Seahawks, meanwhile, coming
off that close lost to Tampa Bay at home last
week in Seattle thirty eight thirty five, two losses so
far this season, Jacob. For the Seattle Seahawks, they started
the season with a seventeen to thirteen four point loss
(18:36):
against the forty nine Ers. Now a three point loss
against the Bucks, Now you can flip that coin a
little bit. They blew out the Saints forty four to thirteen,
beat the Steelers by two touchdowns, but they barely beat
Arizona twenty three to twenty in a three point game.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
So they've played some close games this year. But they're
three and.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Two and they traveled to face a Jacksonville team that's
riding high right now after beating the AFS defending AFC
champ Chiefs on Monday Night.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Yeah, this should be a good game.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
The Seahawks and Jags are both our two exciting teams
in the NFL right now. The Jags obviously having that
thriller win in Monday Night Football against the Chiefs that
you just reference. And the Seahawks, I know, they just
lost the game, but that was a great game against
the Buccaneers, maybe the best game of the year so
far besides that opening Sunday Night football game against the
(19:23):
Bill or between the Bills and the Ravens. The Seahawks
are looking to bounce back in a big way. I
think they thought because they were able to go tit
for tat with the Bucks that they could have easily
won that game. It just the Bucks had the last laugh.
The Bucks came up with the stop at the end
of the game. So the Seahawks are are definitely trying
to look to bounce back from that.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
I expect this to be a good game.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I mean, I think we got lucky because this is
probably the best game in the one o'clock window looking
all across the board, not including the Seevers and Browns games,
but look at them. It's the Colts against the Cardinals,
the Chargers against the Dolphins, the Pats, the Saints, the
Cowboys and the Panthers, and the Rams against the Ravens,
who we know, the Ravens are one and four right now, not.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
A good team.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
This is by far the best game we get in
that one o'clock window, so should be a really good
game to kind of pay attention to while you're watching
the Browns and the Steelers takeoff.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
But yeah, I don't know who I favor.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
I mean, if this game is played in Seattle, I'd
probably in Seattle, even though the Bucks just went into
Seattle and won that game. But the Jags are legitimate,
and whoever comes out of this game is the victor.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
You have to respect them, and even even the losing team.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Really, if it's a close game, you have to say
that both teams are legitimate in their respective conferences.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
We talked already about Rams and Ravens to wrap up
the one o'clock games. Only two other games in the
four o'clock window other than Bengals Packers that we mentioned earlier.
Titans and Raiders one in four versus one and four.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Yeah, terrible game. That's that's the worst game of the
week by far and away. Can we just skip over
that one?
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Yeah, I have no need to talk anything about that game.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Oh my goodness, battle for potentially I.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Think I think the Raiders are gonna be without Brock
Bowers again, so even less of a reason to pay attention.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Yeah, loser of that game maybe in the lead for
the number one overall pick.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Right, I think, well, no, because you still have the Jets,
who are the only winsless team. So unless the Jets
somehow pull off the upset victory against the Broncos, this
team who loses this game will be in second place.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
That might be one of the worst games one and
four Titans versus one and four Raiders. One of the
best will be four and one forty nine Ers at
four and one Buccaneers. On Sunday at four to twenty five,
we talked about the Tampa Bay Bucks. They were in
our power rankings that we that we had mentioned yesterday
or two days ago rather on our show. This is
a fun team to watch. Baker Mayfield fired up, the
(21:40):
defense is playing well. This will be a test for
them at home against a forty nine Ers team that
I'm not convinced at four and one. Now, if they
beat Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay, then I'll start being
convinced for the forty nine ers if they get the
five and one. But I like Tampa at home against
the Niners on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Yeah, as do I.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
I just think that I'm not gonna say that the
forty nine ers are going to turn back into a Tompkin,
but those injuries are going to catch up with that
team eventually. The one saving grace is Kyle Shanahan and
his offensive ability to just really he's he's just a guru.
I mean, look at what this guy has done. As
I mentioned before, U took Jimmy Garoppolo to a Super Bowl,
(22:17):
took brock Perty to a Super Bowl, and now has
Mac jones uh sitting a top of his quarterback depth
chart at a four to one record. Another note of
importance here is that the Niners are three to oh
on the road. So just because this game is playing
played in Tampa Bay doesn't mean that you had to
one hundred per count out the Niners. But I do
(22:38):
think that Tampa Bay is the better team. They're not
dealing with the injuries. I know Mike Evans is injured,
but it doesn't really matter because a Mecca Abuka is
your front runner right now for of defensive Rookie of
the Year. Him and Baker Mayfield are on a tear
right now. The Bucks defense is legitimate as well.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
I think the Bucks win this game, but don't count
out the Niners too quickly.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
I agree, And Tampa Bay with Baker Mayfield fired up,
and they're gonna be fired up again once again this week.
He is talking junk to the Seattle fans last week,
and yeah, as you mentioned, they found him at the
end on.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
His way out too, just to let him know who
won that game.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
The Sunday night game Lions four and one, Chiefs two
and three does not get any easier for the AFC
defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. They are at home
at Arrowhead, which is one of those top three toughest
places to play for an NFL team, but the Lions
at four and one. They've been battle tested already this season,
and an impressive four and one has Detroit been at
(23:33):
Kansas City. If the Chiefs dropped the two and four
after this game, look out they need this one and
a big way to get back to five hundred, because
if you lose two in a row and you're two
and four, that mountain just gets that much more steeper
to try to make a playoff run.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, I think this is a tough to say. It's
a must win for the Chiefs. It's a big game,
it's a big game. But what's an asset to them
as well is the fact that you're facing against an
NFC team. So the tiebreaker here if you lose this
game doesn't really kill you, you remember, I mean, I
don't even know if if interconference records really have any
(24:07):
standings when it comes to tie breakers. It always comes
down to head to head, the division, then conference, and
I think it actually comes down to like strength and
victory or strength to schedule before you look at your
division or your record against the NFC opponents that you play,
or the AFC if you're playing in the NFC.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
So if the Chiefs lose this game not the end.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Of the world, but like you said, and tough to
come back from a two to four hole.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Two games on Monday Night football.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
This upcoming Monday to wrap up Week six seven fifteen,
it's Bills four and one at the Falcons two and two.
The Bills will look to bounce back on the road
against a Falcons team that's been up and down so
far this season at two and two, but Josh Allen
and company and James Cook, who did not have a
big game last Sunday night against the Patriots. They shut
down Cook and limited him well under one hundred I
(24:54):
think it was under fifty yards last week, if my
memory serves correct. Bills four and one, they'll try to
bounce back, but they're on the road in Atlanta and
never an easy place to play. If they get that
at home field advantage, they get that crowd going in Atlanta,
that's a tough place to go into sometimes.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Yeah, I think I think Buffalo should be okay. I
think it was a trap game for them last week.
I think they clearly overlooked New England. I don't think
they'll make that same mistake this week against the Falcons.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
And the last game of the week.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
The eight to fifteen Monday Night game is the two
and two Bears at the three and two Commanders. Bears
coming off of a bye week last week as well,
and they've been a mixed back so far this season.
They started out what zero to two, I believe right
now they've won two straight going into this game against
the Commanders.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Statement game, maybe on the road.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
I mean if they go in and when they're third straight, Yeah,
they lose the Vikings and Lines to start out the season,
they've beat the Cowboys and Raiders back to back weeks. Yeah,
you go into if you go into Washington on Monday
night and come out with your third straight victory, then
we're going to start to pay attention to you. Chicago Bears.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Yeah, I mean for sure, Chicago is another weird team
this year where you thought they'd be a lot better
than where they currently stand, but they've climbed back. Remember
they started off oh and two and now they're two
and two. But I think Washington is the better team.
You remember this game last year. This was the weird
Hail Mary game where I think his name was Stevenson
(26:18):
and the Bear secondary was was taunting the Washington crowd
in Washington on the last play of the game and
then got caught slipping and Washington was able to convert
the Hail Mary, and I think after that, the Bears
didn't win a single game the rest of the year,
or maybe they won one game the rest of the way.
So the Bears are looking to get their revenge here,
but it's being played once again in Washington, and now
(26:42):
that the Commanders have both Jaden Daniels and Tarry McLaurin back,
I think this should be an easy win for Washington.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Vikings and Texans have a bye week this week here
in week six, so those are all the matchups for
this upcoming Sunday.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
That leads us to the Steelers Browns.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Jacob, let's make some quick picks before we wrap things
up here.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
I'll let you go first.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
I got the Steelers in this one, but again, it's
gonna be low scoring. I got the Steelers thirteen to
seven in this game.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Thirteen to seven. You know, let's wreak this down so
then we can come back to this next week. I'm
gonna go Steelers twenty Brown sixteen, man, so you know
we're in all those points, but I won't be upset.
If the Steelers down to that mark. Now I just
looked at this, that would be thirty six total points,
so that would probably put you over right.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Is it thirty six or thirty five? I can't.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Last time I checked, I think yesterday was thirty six.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Right, Let's see, let's say if we can bring it
up here real quick before we go.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
I don't know, I can't.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
The over under right now is today at thirty eight
and a half, so it would still be under Sti'll.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Be under that in that scenario. But you like a
twenty point total, thirteen to seven. Both of us like
the Steelers. Both of us like them in close games
or close as far as in a close game, you
have them six, I have them four. So yeah, less
than a touchdown difference between these two teams.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
On Sunday.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
When we come back on Monday, we will recap Steelers Browns,
and we'll have a short week next week because we
got to turn around quick with the team and get
ready for Thursday Night football next Thursday when the Steelers
go to Cincinnati, but up first the Browns on Sunday.
Two AFC North games in about five days. Have a
great weekend. We'll see you Monday on the standard. This
is the Steelers Standard with Ed Troop and Jacob Bret
(28:12):
on Steelers Nation Radio, part of the Steelers Audio Network.
