With the thirteenth pick in the two thousand and eight
NFL drafts.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Karen Landon's hand there he select.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Jonathan Stewart gives the Steward, he leaves touched up.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Stewart oh rough tough right, angry man out at elbows, knees.
Stewart hesitates, accelerates.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Fit the spass ball football Conathaan. Stuart's got running round.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Stewart jump over a tackler at the tenth, flows up,
lowers his shoulder, keeps running.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
No one will touch him.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Jonathan Stewart house, is it you talk about.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Explosive plays in the run game. It's like the fourth
of July around here. Right now you are listening to
Stu and the Crew. Now to Jonathan Stewarts and Jeremy Kelly.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Welcome to another edition of ste and the Crew. I'm
your host Jonathan Stewart. Alongside me, it's my co host,
Jeremy Kelly.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Appreciate you man. Good to be here. Yeah, it's good
to be here back in the States, right state side,
the state side. Although Germany, the hospitality, the experience, even food.
You know, there was a lot of speculation about the
food before we went there. But I can everything.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Everything like we were, you know, real special guest. Definitely.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
One of the things that I really uh took notice
is the ability for people in other countries to understand
of the languages, Like everyone speaks English, everyone understands English.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, I would say, also multiple languages.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, but they were like, oh English, American, all right,
I speak the language. Whereas they came to America, I'd
be like, huh, you speak German. Can't help you.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
We got to do better.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
That's exactly how I felt like I needed to be
better and I wasn't. It's performed.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's a reminder of how big the world is, obviously,
being in Europe, surrounded so many countries, so closely tied Italy,
you know, Switzerland's now for all, Austria, all these things, man,
and we we are kind of in our own little
cocoon over on this side of the world. Man.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
So was that your first time in Europe?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
That was? Yeah, I guess because I've traveled to Israel.
I spent ten days in Israel, so that's obviously the
Middle East. So yes, that was my first time to
Europe for sure. Yeah, that won't be last.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, that was my first time and it won't be
my last either. Yeah, definitely got outside of my box.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
You know, what are some things that you that you've
experienced as far as considering almost didn't make it out
due to my Do we want to talk about your phone?
I mean, we can get into it, but I think
we fans probably want to hear a little bit more
when we got the things to talk about. We had
six of our most prized legends join us over there,
which was incredible. You guys continue to show up for
(02:56):
the club and it's amazing. Julius Peppers, Jonathan Stuart, Louke, Keigley,
Thomas Davis, John Beeson. All right, Steve Smith, Steve Smith,
Agent eighty nine, who was the life of the party
from start to finish. Man, I don't think anybody had
more fun than Steve Smith.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
I had a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
He was everywhere. I mean, you all were everywhere, you
guys really were, but but Smitty was in a place
of joy the entire time.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Oh yeah, I mean watching the clips of him riding
the bicycle or the tricycle. Is that what you call it?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I think there's actually a name for it. Like it
starts with an r it's a street bike. I sentially
it's a way to get a rind a ratch. I'm
gonna get. I'm gonna find out the ratchet ride. Matter
of fact, can I go on my phone while we're
on here, because I think I can recall if the
text message even still exists. To be honest, We're just
(03:50):
gonna go with a ratchet ride, right, Okay, all right?
Uh it was yep, it's not even yer. So regardless,
Smitty was riding around Munich and the stry bike and
he was driving Luke and Aneta in the back. Yeah,
and he had a lot of fun with it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
So I love I love the opportunity to go there
as ambassadors of the club but also ambassadors of the NFL.
Being in Europe my first time, you know, I feel
like a lot of people's first time in Germany. Uh,
you know, the experiences, the culture there, the fans. One
(04:29):
of the things that surprised me the most was the
amount of football jerseys that I saw at the football
game and leading up to the game. I mean, everywhere
we went, it was like, oh, the NFL is in town,
so let me take pride and the thing that's in
my closet that I don't get to wear for certain occasions,
and I'm going to be able to showcase that now
(04:51):
since the Carolina Panthers and the New York Football Giants
are in town. The amount of football jerseys that I
saw was amazing. I even got to roll up on
somebody that was wearing my jersey in Germany, which was can.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
You imagine like like that that person was? I mean,
I know the video went viral was a great head,
So shout out to you for having that awareness and
seeing it, But can you imagine being a fan? I
know it's like being players tough to really embrace fandom
to that degree, right, Yeah, that person's probably still telling
that story, right yeah, right, so hopefully the listening. But
(05:28):
you bring up a great point if we can paint
the picture of what that was like in Munich when
you're talking about an NFL international game very I think
from start to finish, from when we touched down on
Wednesday morning to when we left on Monday morning, very
super Bowl field, like felt like Super Bowl week. And
(05:50):
when you when you arrive in a different country, you're
getting the you know, you stick out when you're not
We're not average sized humans. You know you got gear on.
What have you? People know while you're there. But to
your point, the colors, the jerseys, the engagements of energy
the second you walk into a room. We had the
great pleasure. We got to give a massive thank you
(06:13):
and shout out to burn Munich Football Club who rolled
out the red car before our legends, custom Jerseys Accommodations
got to witness a game versus Benfiica Champions League game
tour the Hall of Fame with their legends. Claudio Pizzaro
Audio is off the chain, you know, Harry Kane got
to meet some of the guys and so really an
(06:35):
incredible call. You want to talk about a dynasty, the
amount of trophies in that Hall of Fame, it was inspirational. Bro.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
I'm not thinking to myself what we ain't did nothing
like as far as like a club.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Like says seventy five years of history, I believe it was.
But the amount of.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Champion amount of championships, yes, in that time. France is
something out of his world. Yes, and just what soccer
means to that country. You talk about everything that that
country has gone through, the turmoil, the ups and downs.
We all know the history and to have soccer be
(07:11):
that one thing that brought them together, that gave them hope.
I mean, it's bigger. We say it all the time.
It's bigger than football, and in this case, soccer is
bigger than soccer for them, Like they go out there
and play the game for the culture, for the for
the country, for Germany. They wear it on their sleeves.
(07:33):
Like I almost think that to myself, Like they treat
their soccer program like it's the Olympics every single time
they're out there representing like a large group of people,
and that's how they play soccer out there, That's how
they do a lot of things. I mean, you know,
we had we had an opportunity of doing the the
(07:56):
youth flag football where we were able to the clinic,
the clinic at Bayern munich Keademy, at the Academy and
being able to you know, share something that I love
and that I admire some some some of the youth
in Germany. And to hear some of the kids say
I played football because of you, Right, that was.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
The first time for some children to witness that was special, right,
the first time that some of those kids touched the
football football ever and so you know, I, you know,
they probably don't even realize the gravity or the opportunity
of having Maybe they do, hopefully they do. Kids there
(08:39):
of having guys like yourself and Tom Davis and even
the current team that came out to surprise them. Afterwards,
you know, you realize, to your point, it is bigger
than football, even though we're playing football and teaching football.
When you have the ability to impact a child's life
and share the game that we've dedicated our lives too,
(09:02):
and represent your country. You had that opportunity over there
to represent the club. But as Americans, it's a different feel.
It was a different feel when you when we walked
into uh the the Champions League game, through the through
the common that the sweet area, what have you, and
everything stopped. This is the first night we're there looking
(09:26):
at us, so we realized and phones are coming out.
You realize, hold on a second, Okay, this is a
big deal for these folks who are soccer fans, but
they recognize what's happening and who's here. So it was
it was just a a reminder, uh that we get
to do this, man, Yeah, and that the game is
(09:46):
growing in.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
A special way, in a special way and be a
part of that is huge. But again, you know, taking
pride in being in another country, being an American and
understanding like the blessings that we have here that a
lot of us take for granted. You know, you definitely
felt that being away, but you also felt the sense
(10:08):
of pride that they carry as a country, and it
just basically opened up my mind. I already knew, you know,
I always live with this mindset of I'm just a
piece of sand when it comes to the existence of
mankind and the world and just everything on God's timeline, Like,
(10:32):
I'm just one spec of sand. But when I was
over there, I was like, oh, I'm smaller than this
piece of sand because I like my flight. There. I'm
sitting next to a gentleman that was from Germany. No,
he lived in Germany, but he's Italian and he's an engineer,
and I'm like, hey, yeah, I'm going there for you know,
(10:53):
NFL football game. He's like NFL what's that. I'm like, oh,
you don't know the NFL. But he didn't know. I
genuinely didn't know. He's, oh, the football game. And it
was able to you know, share, you know, you know,
my thoughts and my wisdom and experience with you know,
football to a guy that's never really gave two cents
(11:16):
about whether or not NFL exists in America, Right, But
hopefully he tuned into the game and maybe I made
a fan out of And.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
I think there's probably a lot of people in the
first or in that in that arena. Ali, I realized
I was saying it wrong a lot of times. Allions
a uh that got to win this football for the
first time, and the Panthers win at that So we're
glad we came home with a w. But as we
recap this trip, right and you mentioned, you know, one
(11:45):
of the things that we'll get into as the game
is growing, which is amazing to be a part of.
The NFL is continuing to expand into different markets. We
saw Brazil this year. They teased Ghana as super Bowl.
You know, we had a good chance to talk with
with Roger Goodell, Commissioner Goodell, and talked about Berlin and
there it was shared that the league is as I
(12:06):
said on an international game weekly, right, you know, so
what comes with that, right, and so pretty amazing to see,
pretty amazing to see, man, that this game is growing
globally and being more widely accepted, and that there's countries
interested in hosting man. So amazing opportunity for the players. Yeah,
and especially for the players.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
That's one of the things I realized is living a
day in and age where we're talking about. You know, obviously,
what you do on the football field is your resume,
and that's the main thing that you've got to keep.
The main thing. If you don't perform well, you don't
get compensated, right, you don't get to go to the playoffs,
you don't get a chance to be in a super
(12:48):
Bowl if you don't play well and then play well
as a team. But on a personal and individual level,
this is a great opportunity for these guys to go
and expand their brand, spread the you know, the awareness
of who those guys are. Individual look at I look
at a guy like Chuba Hover, what a what an
opportunity for him? You know, he he just gets paid,
(13:09):
you know, and basically you know, the best football player
on the offensive side of the ball, and you you
pay him during a time where he's about to go
to Germany. And so if you are you know someone
from you know, the from Europe and you're trying to
gain an understanding of who to root for and who
(13:32):
are the and who are the top players. You're going
to see, Oh, that guy just got paid thirty something
million dollars for four years. That's the guy that I'm
going to cheer for. That's the guy's jersey. Then I'm
about to go buy, and that's the guy that I'm
about to go follow on Instagram. Right, So these are
cool opportunities for these players to be able to go
(13:52):
overseas to basically expand, expand their brands and capitalize because
you know, football is only for a certain amount of time.
You're not guaranteed the next day. You're not you're not
guaranteed the next game, you're not guaranteed the next year.
So you got to take advantage of everything that's there
for you, you know. But obviously you know, you don't
(14:15):
overdo it because you have to make sure you keep
the balance of keep the main thing, the main thing exactly.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
That's right, that's right. But that's free game though for
a young.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Man go out there, Hey, don't be don't crying and
complain about going to Europe.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Speaking of experiences, you know, I think we need to
talk about you. You got to do some things too
and expand your braind you, I think you might have.
You might have become a pro and tapping the keg
unless you know, I don't know what you did at
the University of Oregon. Maybe you're familiar with it, but
they had an experience with with that big old wooden hammer.
(14:48):
Jonathan had a lot of opportunities to appear at corporate events,
partner events, and et cetera. One of which I thought
was very cool at the Augustiner, which was our team
pub and amazing sight to see you all behind the
bar with Dave and Nicole Tepper and I mean the
energy that was in that place when you all walked
(15:10):
in and the stein holding contests. But with that we'll
share some photos, I know, match behind the scenes. You're
going to get that up for us of the Steine competition,
the tapping of the keg, which is a tradition. So
tell us a little bit about Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
So basically, you know, it was like, hey, man, you
want to tap the keg? I said, do I want
to tap?
Speaker 2 (15:32):
What?
Speaker 1 (15:33):
And like do I want some beer? Yeah, I'll take
some beer. No, do you want to tap the keg?
And basically, it's a.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Spout.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
It's a spout, and you put the spout in the keg,
and you know, they have a little mallet.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
I guess you would call it.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I guess big old mallet, a wooden mallet. And I
felt like I was really a part of the culture.
And I was basically setting the tone for the night.
And I love to be the tone setter, you know,
being a running back, that's what we'd like to do. Man,
give me the ball the first place, so I can
set the tone.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
And so.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
They messed around and gave me the mallet and gave
me to Spicott and then I went on ahead and
just you know, gave it a nice little love tap.
I didn't have to kill it. Yeah, there you go,
right there.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
We'll get this video up for the good folks. But yeah,
amazing experience to embrace the culture.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Yeah, it was cool to see a lot of the
you know, the Charlotte City leaders there, Yes, in support
of Carolina Panthers growth an expansion to you know, other countries,
which obviously brings an awareness of Charlotte on the map,
right Like, hey, you know, we're here to basically also
(16:45):
show you what we have in Charlotte. You know, there's
a lot of businesses in this world that move and
shake in different ways, and.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
There's a handful of German based businesses here in Charlotte
which they identify you. Yes, and so to your points,
you mentioned that really special moment during the game, which
was almost like whoa hold on, superstitious, that's too soon?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Yea.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Seventy plus thousand people started singing Sweet Caroline. Man, they
they knew every word, and additionally they were singing John
Denver songs. Not where sure where that came from, but i'surop.
When they started singing Sweet Caroline while the Giants were
(17:32):
running plays, and like the first or second quarter, it
was like whoa, they know, they know there's some fans
in here.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
They know what to do.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
There's some fans in here. So we definitely brought a
little bit of Charlotte to Germany.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I need to We might need to do that against
the Chiefs. Huh, third quarter, bring out the song and
third quarter in the third going into fourth.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
You know that's above my pay grade. But if it happens,
it happens. Whatever it takes to win. Man came out
that I'm on board with it. We came out of
that victorious. I'm on board with it. What were some
of the things that you enjoyed eating pretzels? I mean,
like I'm you were eating all that. I'm a hot
pretzel guy, I said this before winning over there. Now
(18:15):
the thing in Germany that threw me off a little bit.
Not all the pretzels were hot, but they were fresh.
They were fresh, like you know sometimes you might go
to a ball game, or you may go to movie
theater and let me get a pretzel and a slushy
or soda whatever you want. Yeah, and then the pretzels
just stale because if it's sitting under that hot lamp
for a little while, we all the salt is the
hotland just hard. Not in Germany. Munich has some good pretzels,
(18:39):
so I ate a lot of that. How did you
deal with the salt on the pretzels? They're a little salty.
Oh no, it's right. I mean that's what I expect,
that you need the salt on it.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
You don't like it just you know, not a big
not a big salty guy. I'm seasoned food guy, but
not a.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Lot I'm a I'm a veteran pretzel you know, out
of store. So the favorite thing that I ate was
I know you were begging to ask me what I
what I enjoyed. As far as the food, the biggest
thing that I enjoyed was the pork knuckle that you
didn't get to try.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
I'm sorry I missed out. Man, that was the best
thing that I had.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Well tell us about it.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
That might have been the best thing that I had
in like five years.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Literally, we gotta take that up with cool man. Man.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Look, the pork knuckle is where it's at.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Man.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
That thing was fried, like the top part was like
a pork crime and then you cut into it and
it's like dark meat of like a chicken or like
it's just very like nicely done juicy. Like I didn't
know if I was eating pork or chicken. That's serious, bro,
I don't want to guess what I'm eating. No, there
(19:49):
is pork knuckle, and so I didn't have to guess.
But as far as how it was, like, Man, this
is so good. I've never had anything like it.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Man. Well, there was a lot of great cuisine over there,
and we had a solid breakfast. The waffles. If you
go to Germany, make sure you get some waffle off.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
The plane we went, we got off the planet, did that?
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Uh, yes, and we had the bisc Off sauce that
went with it. Everybody knows the bisk go Off cookies
that you get while you're on a flight.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I was definitely following Jeremy's
uh you know, I was following Germany's method.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
We were just, you know, just embracing what was going on. Man.
So we did a little bit of research trying to
make sure we were prepared for the trip. But nonetheless,
amazing hospitality in Germany. The game day experience was definitely
one to remember. You know. I would encourage fans out
there to try to make your way to an international game.
(20:50):
If you can, you will not regret it. And the
the energy is just amazing.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
I think it was definitely a core memory moment.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, and it was. And it was an amazing moment
for the Carolina Panthers organization. I think we represented well
from you guys were phenomenal holding the fan We didn't
even talk about fan Fest and the stud and Crew
podcast that was in the Crew Podcast legendary lineup though,
when you really think like to have John beeson TD
Luke all on stage at the same time. So imagine that,
(21:20):
what if if you was a running back, you gotta
play against that on that Like, look, if I'm the.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Tampa Bay Buccaneer Saints or the Falcons. My look, coach,
I ain't a rocket scientist, but I know some players
that ain't gonna.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Work, right, That's right, I mean we we had to
uh Smitty. Smitty got tired of the of the back
and forth I think with TD and BS, and he
just walked off the stage and sat in the crowd. Yeah,
but it was it was amazing. And then to also
have Steve Smith, Julius Peppers and the rest of you
all on stage, and to have fans experience that, man,
(21:56):
I mean as as Panthers fans, you had to have
been in glory and.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
So I mean I wasn't glory, to be honest, man.
Like the biggest part of that trip and what that
did for me, it gave me an opportunity to be
in a safe space amongst my brothers and literally I
mean Steve Smith's big bro John Beese like big Bro TD,
big Bro, Lou little bro, but like still big bro
(22:24):
because how he carries himself and just like his demeanor
and everything that he stands for. Just you're around a
bunch of individuals that are gonna that have helped shape
you and that are you know, still like a part
of your life for the remainder of your life. Like this,
you know, NFL is a brotherhood. Fellowship was so strong.
I love, you know, hanging out with Pep Man and
(22:46):
you know, just hearing his story about how he chose
his agent like that blew my mind. How articulous this man,
you know.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Was with that which which will get him we'll have
on the show. Wa. Yeah, we're gonna get him in
studio for sure.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
For sure. But it was It was a tremendous time
and the big the funnest part and the biggest part
of that whole trip for me was being able to
be around my brothers.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
That's right, that was great. It was great, It really was.
You know, we we were staying a little bit away
from the city center with downtown Munich, not far talking
about maybe going from South Park to to uptown Charlotte,
but even that short distance in the car from event
to event to event with each other was yeah, And
(23:34):
it was just good, right and and perhaps passive aggressiveness.
You know, it was tight anytime you got big humans
in a small space. He kind of checked Luke a
little bit, and and Luke realized quickly, like, oh, okay,
he's not asking if I'm comfortable. He's not comfortable. Let
me move.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
He wants me to move. Yeah, So you set up imagine,
imagine and in a sprinter van, there's a seat, and
there's three large humans in one.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Seat and might have been the smallest of me.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
It was me, Luke and Pep. And so I'm wide.
He's the he's the slimmest, and he's the slimmeest. You know,
he just did a half what's maccalla, not a marathon,
but iron Man. Yeah, he just did a half iron Man,
which is crazy. So he's in half iron Man shape.
So he's like skinnier than usual. And I'm about as
(24:31):
wide as Pep, just not as tall. And so Luke
was sitting in the middle and Pet was like, yo,
you're good, and you know, Pet was leaning back and
then he leaned forward, and then Luke looked to the
Pep and he said, oh no, no, you're good.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
You sit back.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
And that's just the type of person that Luke is man.
Two Hall of famers over here talking about where they're
sitting at next to each other.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Right, Yeah, let's hope we get Luke across the line here, man, Yeah,
I sure do hope. So, you know, but we did
get the win. We snuck out of there with Eddie
Preneur comes through amazing moment. And here we are into
a bye week, man, and so I'm juiced. Yeah, two
(25:19):
wins under the belt, some well needed rest. We have
a couple of guys getting back on the field this week.
Adam feeling yep, and you should be excited. Jonathan Brooks
might get the day you here, man, talk about it.
How do you feel about the young man?
Speaker 1 (25:35):
I feel really good about it, and I love the
intentionality of not rushing him back. You know, to my understanding,
he could have played last week, but they held him
out because of the surface and you know, not really
sure what they were going to get out of that.
So kudos to them on management for just making sure
that they, you know, keep guys intact. You know, you
(25:55):
gotta sometimes protect the players from himself. Because I'm pretty
sure he would have love to go out there and
embrace his teammates and play on an international level. Uh
and so, but to be able to have him come
into the you know, into his first first NFL game action,
(26:16):
Yeah at home. People are gonna be watching it.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Your stadium is going to be full.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Yeah, and so it's an opportunity obviously for the Panthers,
but for him to go out there and just show
us what you can do. Don't don't feel the pressure
of needing to go out there and outperform everybody. Play
within yourself and get some some runs under your belt.
(26:44):
And and to my like how I feel about the
game plan. You know, the Chiefs, you know, they're like
top three in rushing defense, so, which means they've allowed
eight hundred and fifty yards rushing so farthest year, whereas
the Carolina Panthers have allowed sixteen hundred yards rushing this year.
(27:05):
So there's a comparison there right as far as how
we've been viewing games and defenses and whatnot. So it's
going to be very tough to run the ball against
this Kanness City Chiefs defense. That does not mean that
you do not run the ball because at the end
of the day, our best attributes as a team is
to be able to run the ball. And play defense.
(27:27):
And we did that against the New York Football Giants.
We did that against the New Orleans Saints. And if
we continue that recipe, it's playing physical, tough football, right,
and all you got to do is make sure that
you're holding guys accountable. And what better way to hold
the guy accountable for being physical? Hey, I just want
you to be physical and finish a guy, get him
(27:48):
on the ground, right, so that way you can make
room for the running backs or for make room for
you know, Bryce Young to be back there and pick
guys apart like we know he can. And so I
think things are really starting to take shape. It's like concrete, right.
It's it's basically, you have all the you have the formula,
you have all the ingredients to make concrete, but it
(28:09):
also takes the temperature you have to you know, as
far as how much you know, water you have and
how much ingredients you have depending on the depending on
the temperature, gives you the amount of time that it's
actually going to take for you to have concrete, right,
And so it's kind of like that with the Carolina
(28:32):
Panthers right now, we're actually starting to see you know, time,
you know come into fruition and and all the things
that we've been expecting. You know, we've had injuries, we've
had you know, guys that have gone down. And being
able to get those guys back, getting want of them
back last week was huge boiler, you know, and and
(28:54):
seeing Josie Jewel being able to hit you know, the
angles downhill on the run, support and making tackles. We're
actually one of the better tackling teams in the in
the in the in the league. And so keeping those
things up, the identity of your team is there. We
just need a time. And now that time, you know,
(29:14):
going back to the concrete analogy, we're heating up and
so when it heats up just a little bit, they
start taking form.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
You hope it's catching at the right time. You're getting
healthy at the right time. And we know if you
look at the conference, we knew what you catch fire.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Now we knew going into this season like somebody can
be had. And right now the New Orleans Saints with
the bed the Buccaneers, you know, they they they a squad,
but right now they're injured, right they have some guys
(29:51):
that they're not that they're they're missing, and it shows
you know, and the performances of you know, the last
three games or so, and we got the Atlanta Falcons
getting blazed by the Denver Broncos. Right, so now we
look at the Carolina Panthers and say, yeah, why not us?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Control your own destiny?
Speaker 1 (30:13):
You know, if I'm in that locker room, and if
there's any message, the message is why not us? And
it absolutely is about us. It's not about anyone else
besides these guys in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
And why you do it?
Speaker 1 (30:29):
You do it for your family, You do it for
whatever it is that you you know, put on the wall,
put on the mirror when you look yourself in the mirror.
Why do you play this game? You do it for
that reason and that reason only. And you just go
out there and make things shake. And I feel like
we're really close because the Kenni City Chiefs going back
to them, they can be had. Yeah, and you find
(30:50):
out too.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
I think when you're in a position like this and
you get a little glimmer of hope and you start
to get a little momentum, and that balls going uphill
right now almost the up where you can just get
the tipping point, and then you really get some momentum
going downhill, right, Sometimes teams that are on the bottom
half of the league. We see it every year. It
(31:14):
takes a little bit of belief and you get to
those points in the games like we exhibited, where you
finish and you close and now it's not oh, here
we go again, but hey, here we go again. Yeah, right,
and so the tone changes. I think that the energy
is tangible, you know, is it? Is it a feat?
Of course, every given Sunday, you're going to get you're
(31:36):
going against you're gonna get the best shot. You got
a team that just lost to a Buffalo team in
the Kansas City Chiefs says, we all watched that great
game that took place the other night.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Which they're going to come in here with a whole
different set of it here expectations. The sense of urgency
is one of the things that strike me for the
Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, Patrick Mahomes has eleven interceptions
this year, which is screaming. It's screaming opportunity for a defense. Right.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
All we gotta do is just make him uncomfortable and
he's gonna throw us the rock. And we've seen them
games be close with the Chiefs in recent weeks, and
so keep it close. You give yourself a shot, you execute,
you know. Back to Jonathan Taylor, I'm sorry, Jonathan Brooks. Brooks,
Back to Jonathan Brooks. You you I don't think that
(32:24):
he's got pressure. I would say if I know, if
if we think of the situation, right, you got you
know he's secure with Dan Morgan. Yeah, you know, you
got Cuba in your back who just signed. There is
no pressure.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Now you just go out there and play. They out
there and play very similar to Jamaal Charles, just run
the ball. Jamal Charles his rookie year had like seventy
carries and then it changed the next year obviously, and
he just progressed through. But Jamal Charles, I think you
spread you You treat Jonathan Brooks his rookie year at
this point in the season as a wrinkle and and
(33:01):
not a wrinkle in the sense of like, oh, he
gets three carriers a game or ten players a game,
but kind of you utilize them like you were utilizing
Miles Sanders, right, But we know that Jonathan Brooks has
this ability to be a home run threat as well.
So get that guy in some space, get him comfortable.
(33:22):
He's going to make sure that he had mean incredible
contact balance coming out of college. And that's one of
the things I'm excited to see, having two running backs
in the backfield that you know, have the ability to
be a home run threat, but it's going to make
sure that they pick up those positive yards regardless because
of the ability for them to shake tacklers off them.
(33:42):
And you have that going for you, it kind of
changes the game.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Be nice to get a little one two punch again
like we used to see. Yeah you know you think, yeah,
you know me, it's exactly but the fans would love
to see it. They would love to see that.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
I mean, me and di'angelo a special thing because I
remember it'll be third and twelve and coach Davison will
call a draw play. D'Angelo back there right, Well, you
call it that draw play for on third and twelve
and lo and behold, you got it.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Twenty yard game.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
You know what I'm saying, So like to be able
to and what I'm saying is football doesn't have to
be that hard, you know, it's it's really simple when
you have good players. And right now I feel like
we're being established with some really good talent so far.
And Jonathan Brooks is just one of those guys that
(34:41):
we can't wait to see come to fruition because if
that comes to fruition, Dan Morgan's draft class, this whole
year of free agencyokies, rookies and all of them, I mean,
he hit it. He hit a home run this year.
So I can only imagine what that's gonna lead to
going into the going into next offseason as far as
(35:04):
what he's gonna be able to do then, and and
and testing the free free agency market even more because
you do now have a little bit of establishment with
the coaching staff, with some of the players, with some
of some veterans in the locker room, which will then
attract other guys to want to come play.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Here are running backs making a comeback in the NFL. Man, bo,
what uh I mean? Last night Joe Mixing, Joe Mixing
had that three piece Yeah, yeah, one, two, three into
the folk. You know, we've seen some amazing plays doing
his thing. Right now.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
We got you got Derrick Henry, got Squon Barkley, you
got Joe Mixing, you got Tuba Hoverard. Tuba's top three
back in the league.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
He's up there and we got him.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
I've been trying to tell people too, bro like all year,
last year too. I'm like, man, y'all tripping. We got
a running back. His name is Tuba Hover, and he
deserves every last penny. And honestly, man, I think the
running backs are coming making a comeback because you're starting
to see a drop off in quarterbacking right We're getting
(36:13):
back to Hey, defense is a little bit. They're they're
they're complex, they know how to stop stuff, they know
how to play, they know spatially where they need to be.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
I don't know what I'm saying, we're getting to drop off,
but it ain't. It's definitely it's a little bit of
a drop off in stats. Period. It is. I have
to look at the numbers. But I know that Lamar Jackson,
Lamar Jackson, I know that Justin Herbert looked great the
other night Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
But Joe Burrow had a complete game, a complete game,
scoring yards, build management. One thing they didn't have on
their side was a defense. And you know, one of
the things that I think they could use is a
better run game. Because guess what a run game does.
(37:01):
It wears out of defense and it takes time on
my fog. So that's the reason why they're running back
positioning so popent like. It's so important because it does
things like grind out games. It takes time away from
the other opponent to be able to score.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
There's nothing more demoralizing to an offense. Nothing, Number one,
the most demoralizing playing football to sack, right, yeah right.
But to a defense, there's nothing more demoralizing than an
explosive run. When you got third and whatever, second and
(37:37):
long and running back is constantly breaking for fifteen plus
twenty plus thirty plus yard runs.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
That's what Trooper was doing last week.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
That's tough. Yeah, and that wears you down. Yep. So
we're talking about this topic because if we can do that,
we made some noise this weekend. Yeah, and we hope
to see everybody in there. I'm not gonna say singing
the song early, but yeah, sing but singing singing in
your heart is going to be. It's going to be
(38:07):
a scene at eight under South Mint at the bank.
And I hope that we can deliver, Yes, sir, we
can deliver, there's no question. H Well man, this was fun.
Did we did we cover everything we wanted to? Do
today still. Yeah, man, I know you want to talk
about Oregon.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah, you know, orgon number one. We gotta buy a
week so we're just chilling.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
But we're in the East coast, so we won't you know,
just get your little fixed and then we'll keep it moving.
Excuse me, that's not the way you talk to number
one in the nation. Uh.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Here we go, relax. Uh No, But I feel like,
you know, college is in a good space. I love
the close games that I've been watching lately. I mean,
the NFL is really fun to watch. I mean the
Pittsburgh Baltimore game that was so fun to watch, which great.
Uh the Cincinnati Bengals game was so fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Uh, Chargers game.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
But Argers are.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Chargers are out there with Jim Harball. You talk about
a team that's gought in culture. I mean, flip the
switch culture.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
One year, not even a whole year, just a couple months,
and he got them boys believing in themselves because he
engages with the players. He's very hyper focused, you know
when it comes to football. But being able to connect
with players allows you to feel free to move how
you need to move. Because as long as you keep
(39:29):
the main thing the main thing. You can be yourself
and you can have a team that is very unique
and can be able to go out on the field,
take the field and have something that's you know, connected
deeper than just running plays. So yeah, shout out to him,
But yeah, Dan Lanning man cares the same type of attributes.
(39:52):
Dan Lanning University of Oregon. He's gotten this recruiting thing
under the lock. And after this year, first year in
the Big Ten, if we continue the way we are,
continuing being the grim reaper for all these teams we play,
putting them to bed.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
You know, your hand on your pick. It's been great.
Thanks everybody for another episode of.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Quack Quack Go Ducks. It's gonna be great for them,
but it's gonna be great for them.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Did your daughters like the German chocolate you got him?
They did?
Speaker 1 (40:29):
They they Enjordan once? No, no, no, no no no,
we still got still got them in the bag, all right.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Yeah, it's a lot of chocolate.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
It's a lot. It lasts us until January.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Bouncing off the walls. Man, I got a question. Yeah,
if there's anybody retired or current that would be able
to beat Jake Paul in the boxing right now, no training.
(41:03):
Who would be.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
I already know who it'll be.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Julius Peppers, Julius Peppers. I mean, it's just just call
It's like letting him out of a cage, like just
uh yeah. I mean look, no, there's I would. I would.
There's probably a couple of other guys that would even
put in the ring.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Now take Mike Tobert. Like you know Mike, Mike Tober
was a boxer.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
He does, he owns a couple of rock I would
not even.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Just I'm actually calling out Mike Tobert right now, start
training Mike Tobert and Jake, Paul Logan, Paul, whoever you is,
Mike Tobert will out box you. I'm calling it right now, Mike.
I'm your agent, I'm your trainer. He's trying to get
(41:50):
a piece of the purse. Yeah, I need that purse out.
No man, A million viewers, that's a lot.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Yeah, you know, I'll save Look, this is all say
on this man, because I'm not one of those guys
that's going to stay up till ten thirty, eleven, thirty
twelve o'clock to watch a four second fight, or I.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
Bet you leave your phone there to get smashed and
cracked on a trip in Germany.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
We're gonna talk about that too before we get off this.
But the fight, in my opinion, was not authentic.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
Oh yeah, it was definitely shape.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
We understand the shape of the business and as you
just mentioned, views and all those things, brilliant business move. Congrats,
hats off. There's probably a few guys that I know,
because there's some warriors that could probably go toe to toe, right,
and it's a handful of y'all. But all that said, man,
(42:42):
I would have just liked to see an authentic.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
But did you know you really thought that it was
gonna be?
Speaker 2 (42:49):
I didn't want That's why. That's why I watched the
back of my eyelids and not that fight. But I
saw the highlights and you know, read read some things,
and you know I drew my own conclusions. Anybody else
that watched it, I'm sure you did the same thing.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
I think it's it's a bigger statement to say I
think people care more about being entertained everybody.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
It's all about entertainment. The NFL is about entertainment. Are
you not? That they're turned right? So you know, I
couldn't There are certain things I couldn't be entertained because,
speaking of the phone, Jonathan Stewart tried to ruin my
trip to Germany and getting out of a vehicle.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
He dropped his phone through the crevices of a chair
while he was sitting in in a sprinter.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
I didn't drop it slipped.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
It slipped, and he didn't have control of the things
that he's supposed to be taken care of. Not being
a good steward of his phone, he left it in
a crack and that patted himself down before he got
out of the car. I'm in the back seat, giving
him the front seat because he's taller, giving him leg
room and all those types of way, which is appreciated.
(43:57):
And he the driver lists up the seat for me
to get out, and as he lifted it up, we
heard what sounded like a phone being crushed by a seat.
I've never heard it before, but I knew exactly what that,
you know, exactly.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
What TD's face turned. TD turned what like his jaw dropped.
It was like, JK, I think that's your phone. That's
you know, thanks for that. There's two sides of every story.
So phone phone wasn't dropped, it slipped. Trying to let
my man out the back seat. Unfortunately phone got crushed
in the gears of this of this seat. So why
(44:37):
does that matter to the fine folks at home? Uh?
You know, this is a lesson of being resourceful. Jason
Bourne came into Jason Bourne came intest. You also had
a You also had some guys, had some help, had
some help.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
Like yo, man, we got you.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
As a director of leigiend Affairs, I'm responsible for getting
all six guys to where they need to be, when
they need to be there, how they need to get there.
And so now I'm in a different country, no phone,
limited communication not only to my legends, but also to
staff that is awaiting our arrival, communicating details, et cetera.
So you know, now we've got to rely on Wi Fi. Hey.
(45:12):
Uh you know, uh, I'm wished to text him. I'm
with TD text him and we got it done and
we delivered and we got every bear where they needed
to get to on time.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Now you need to just give me off the photos
you took that were so nice of the.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Trips photographer throughout the week. So as soon as you've
been mommy, I'll send you the photos that said, uh,
it was a great trip. We're grateful that we got
a w keeping the main thing. The main thing the
NFL put on, the Carolina Panthers put on. We're coming
back home against the defending Super Bowl champions in our house.
(45:50):
Everyone should be excited. I know that we have you know,
this is always a high demand game. There's a handful
of legends that have reached out. As always, we're going
to have guys in the house, man, So I'm always
excited to have that. We get to see you your families.
You know, the work is always done through the week,
but really on game days we get to spend time
and we get to watch ball and we get to
do it together. So we love that. So so hoping
(46:13):
for a great Sunday, man, hope it's so great weather.
Let's get a duble.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
Yeah, came the city Chiefs. Be prepared for this l
that's about to be served.
Speaker 2 (46:21):
Well, here we go. Now he got the bulletin material, man, Yeah,
you know, just be prepared. He's in rare formed today.
He had leg day. Yeah, man, leg Day, Get you right?
Have you walking up right? Another episode of stew and
the Crew. We appreciate you turning in. We out keep pounding,
keep pounding,
