Speaker 1 (00:00):
With the thirteenth pick in the two thousand and eight
NFL draft. Caroenlinon Panther select Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Stewart, gives to Stewart, He leaves touched up. Stewart oh
rough tough right, angry man out at elbows, knees, word, hesitates, accelerates.
That's what I'm talking about. The spash Moll football contain
Stuart got running around Stewart, jump over a tackler at
the tenth flows jump, lowers his shoulder, keeps running. No
one will touch him. Jonathan Stewart house does it? You

(00:26):
talk about explosive plays in the run game. It's like
the fourth of July around here. Right now you are
listening to Stu and the crew.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Stu and the crew.
We are week two, Week two.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Caromelin of Panthers are zero to one after falling to
the Jacksonville Jaguars. But it's okay, though it's not okay.
Well you lost, but it's gonna be. I we have
the blessing and the honor of having a guy that
I I love you. I love you too, bro, I

(01:06):
love you, man, I do Trey Boston ladies and gentlemen.
Lockdown safety, yeah, lockdown safety in some place too. Brings
the energy wherever he goes, no matter what. The man
had fifteen picks, and man, I would love to just
have at least one of those picks each and every

(01:28):
game this year, but instead they are retired picks.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, you know it was I had them two extra
ones in the playoffs, two guys, don't forget about that.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
That's seventeen, four hundred and twenty nine tackles. That means
he was in the box. Oh my god, he was
in the box. He was aggressive ladies and gentlemen. But
he was also scoring touchdowns. Yes, I did score a tuddy. Yeah,
I'm saying I got a blessed to get in that zone.
Do you remember your touchdown celebration?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, what was it? It was like folding arms? Well first, okay,
you ready for it. I wasn't. You know what I'm saying.
I could be honest and saying I wasn't. I can
tell you by the time I got to the ten
yard line, I think I got to the five and
I was like, Trey, you're supposed to do the dion.
So then I did, like my legs and then I
thought about in Madden we always used to like hurdle

(02:16):
and dive in to the end zone to the front flip.
So I'm like, I gotta go from the dion to
the front flip. Well, I ain't get to the front flip.
So I got to the end zone. Then I got up,
folded my arms, me and but they looked at each other.
Then I took it. We both took a step back.
Here comes the just beautiful Josh Norman come and flying

(02:37):
in like.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
A beautiful like a batman.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I'm talking batman. Now, you didn't land very well because
he was supposed to land like on us as a team,
but we separated. Bro, It's hilarious, Bro, I love it.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Man, dude, defensive players really practiced their touchdown celebration routines.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Well, these days they do, no, these days they are
they could. They have film, they have filmed them.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Actually ands on so we can see what they know.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I'm just letting y'all know right now, Like you gotta
be careful. These guys really know what they're doing. But
practice makes perfect. So I'm not mad at it, you
know what I'm saying, because it's just it's extra time.
That they have. So if your play allows you to
make celebrations, then you should be ready for your celebrations.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Right on, right on, all right, well you and see,
I didn't know we're gonna talk about you and see. Okay, yes,
my brother here is a tar Heel. Yes, Second Team
All ACC twenty thirteen, got robbed, Got robbed, played play

(03:43):
for seven seasons, Carolina Panthers, obviously LA Chargers, Arizona Cardinals,
which you'll get to later. And I was able to
finish up here in Carolina and the Carolinas. You know,
let's talk about UNC for a second. Okay, What's what
do you feels going on over there in tar Hill

(04:04):
Land with Bill Belichick? What are the expectations that people
need to have.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
There we go? You know what questions to ask me?
What are the expectations? Well, first of all, guys, I
want to let you know, Bill Belichick is the you know,
one of the greatest coaches that ever, if not the
greatest in the NFL. You know, But when you throw
them into a college scenery with n I l with

(04:30):
colleges that are already like Georgia SEC schools who are
known to pay and known to get the guys, it's tough.
I mean, you and C is a great school, I mean,
no doubt about it. But you and C has always
been you and C. And I tweeted that out, like, man,
you and C still You and C.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, because when I watched the game, I came with
the conclusion that they was trying their hardest to basically
promote the Tar Hills as a football school for the
first time, which they.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
They did a great showing up. Again, Man, I say
unc is U and C because I was at the
same games, played in those same big time moments where
we wet the bed, you know what I'm saying, Like
I was there where. Man, we've gone and we've beat
some of the biggest teams. We beat Tennessee's, we beat Clempsons,

(05:20):
but we'd go lose to ECU, you know what I'm saying.
You know, Like that's that's the we'd lose to. You know.
So when you have those type of teams, you and C.
With Bill Belichick, like he's not just making us like
a super duper team anymore, you know what I mean,
Like he doesn't come like kids. Kids want the money.
If Georgia's willing to pay them four million, two million,

(05:43):
one million, and unc ain't they're absolutely going there.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, but do you have hope for you and see
in the sense of the fact that Bill Belichick is there,
absolutely and that there will be investments made into the
football program for in il.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, And I hope what they get from me speaking
about this is, yes, you need guys. If we're talking football,
we need guys. So, yeah, coaching only goes so far
as your guys. And who would know the best of
them all? So for me, we can't just keep saying like, oh,
Bill belichap best coach. He's gonna go in there with

(06:19):
these guys and make them the best step.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
No, he even said that, hey, we're not good.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
I heard them say that, and I didn't know if
people caught that, like like not not we're not great,
Like we're not good good. So so for me, Bill,
Bill had me talk to, you know, to a few
of them. So for me, that's what I'm about. I'm
about being realistic with where we're at. If Bill gets
us into a bowl game, we can get crowd attendance bigger.

(06:48):
We win a bowl game. Now we bring it into
another year where now we we got one of the
best quarterbacks in the nation coming through. I want to
say Burgus or Travis coming in. You know, when you
got guys like that and you start building classes of
Bill's guys, not the ones who are here. No, Bill
said I want y'all and brought y'all in, then you'll

(07:10):
end up fund yourself where we want.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
That's where Organ's basically at right now. Where Dan Lanning
has been recruiting is behind off for the last several years,
and now we're starting to see the fruits of that
labor with the roster that they have. But you but
you know, we played Oklahoma State this past weekend. Yeah
what happened and we thrashed them. But guess what. Pre

(07:36):
that game, the head coach of Oklahoma State came out
and was like, Hey, it would be nice to play
someone that has the similar budget that we have. And
I took that as so, you want to play somebody
that's sorry so you can win and get yourself an

(07:56):
opportunity to win a national championship.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
That ain't how that go ye, and you got to pay,
you have to to play. It's always been that.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
It's always been about the money man.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Let them fool you.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Dollar Bill y'all you thought to stop at SMU speaking
at ballar dollar Bill man, Look, talk to me, talk
to these people about paddle. Okay, we are getting right
to it. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, if you don't know
about paddle yet, you need to know about it.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Okay. Paddle is a game. You'll hear you either hear
it paddle, padel And it is a sport that is
a new racket sport. Now it's not news. It's nineteen
sixty nine Alcopolco and is when it was created Mexico.
But for us in America, it's a new sport. What
it is, it's like playing squash and tennis put together.

(08:52):
So think of playing tennis, but you have walls in
the back of you and on the side of you
with a little bit of cage, so you're in a
box and you're hitting off the wall. So imagine tennis.
Somebody hits it past you and you're like, dang, that's
a good a server, that's a good hit. What you

(09:13):
want to do then now is you can let it go,
let it hit the glass, and hit it back. So
paddle is the new I'm talking it's going to be
the biggest thing coming. Why I say that the numbers
are ridiculous. It's the fastest growing sport in the world.
Not only is the fastest growing sport in the world,
there's already thirty million players across the world. Now there's

(09:36):
only one million players in the United States. Now, why
say this is big? Because hear this number. There's forty
million pickleball players in the world. Thirty million come from
the United States. Again, there's forty million pickleball players around
the world, thirty are from the United States. They say

(09:58):
that's statistics. Paddle has thirty million around the world, in
the United States has one million. Once United States catches
on to paddle, it will be the biggest sport around
the world. Obviously you'll have soccer still, you know, you'll
have basketball. But this sport right now is competing with
soccer and tennis in a lot of sports. It's literally

(10:21):
the secondary sport in a lot of countries. It's big
in South America and especially Europe. Europe it's booming, and
now in the Middle East, India it's getting bigger, and
in Asia is starting to boom as well. So again,
fast growing sport in the world. Get a part of it.
Me and Jay Stewart doing some pretty big things in it.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Let's get to that. Because I saw you on Instagram.
I'm not really sure. Actually tell us how you got
into this. Was it just you showing up to a
rec league or something like that. No, no, or found
a coach or what.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah. So I was in Dominican Republic on vacation with
my wife and we were playing tennis, and we were
just hitting rallies back and forth, just like you and
that play.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I began tow up, but I began to get to
every ball. But for whatever reason, that tennis racket says nope.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
So for me, we had just got done playing on
a resort and they had one court and the employee
was like, hey, you should try this sport. It's new again.
I told you it's not new, but to me, she
knew it was new. I said, all right, you know,
She's like, look new, it's a different racket, different paddle.
I'm all right. So I go out there with the

(11:33):
employees and I kind of I kind of see like
the gist of the game. I'm nice. Now the game
has kind of played just like tennis. You score, you know,
fifteen thirty forty, you go duce if you want to
golden all that. So for me, I'm whooping up on
them all right, So listen, I'm juiced. I come back

(11:55):
day too. I'm lit. What did you tell your wife
we're about to go back up tomorrow morning?

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Like I was?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
She was?

Speaker 1 (12:01):
She like, was she fond of it?

Speaker 2 (12:03):
She was? She was. She was playing with me. She
was playing with me. She like, So, if anybody want
to run doubles me and my wife. Yeah, we know.
She don't play as much because I keep a home,
because i'd be out there. Somebody got to maybe sit
them kids, you know what, unless you want to maybe
sit my kids. To your wife, Hey man, they're good
kids though, you know what I'm saying. So I had
went out. Day two, I played again. I'm now I'm like, okay,

(12:26):
I'm getting a hang. I'm really stomping on them right
all right. Day three, I go, I'm blessed playing some Chilean's.
I met some Chilean's. They really give me the breakdown
of the game, kind of the numbers of what I'm
talking to y'all right now, letting me know. Oh man,
it's crazy. So they're like, hey man, you know, last
six years has been booming in Chile and starting you
know in Argentina, and Spain is where it's really big

(12:48):
as Spain has you know, over I want to say
twelve to sixteen thousand courts, and Spain isn't the size
of Texas, you know what I'm saying. So think about that.
You have that many courts in Spain alone, and Texas
maybe has right now, maybe thirty.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
So it's basically like football in Texas.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
But Spain, Yes, that's how they do it in Spain
and Argentina. But Spain is like the hub. Like if
you want to go get best coaching, the best players,
go to Spain because these kids have been playing it
since they're like five six. What I learned is from
some of their best players is getting to meet all
them boys, is that they have in their apartments they're

(13:33):
you know, you know section eights, you know what I mean.
Like in their apartments they don't have like football fields
or grass fields. They have like a court, a basketball,
a soccer and a paddle court. Wow, so a little
little pitch for soccer that might have basketball court they
can shoot on if they want to some days, and
then a paddle court. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
It was cool. So yesterday I was able to go
and meet Trey over here locally at uh what's it
called epic paddle yea, they have a they have some
courts that are popping up, you know, in the US.
And I was able to go meet some guys that

(14:14):
are part of this, and they're talking about how they're
setting up epic paddle courts in housing developments, new housing developments.
So like when you talk about you know, having you
know the amenities. You have your swimming pool, you have
your your workout room. Now you got paddle courts. So
if you do not know by now what to invest

(14:37):
your money in, what's the next wave? It's not pickle anymore.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Pickle is long gone. You missed that wave. It's overdone.
Just like breweries, it is now paddle okay, and we
can you can be the first to get involved. If
you have any questions or concerns, reach out and mister Quatto.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Hey, poor quatro, Hey, may y'all show me some dems
let me know. Hey, I'm letting y'all know right now.
Why the time is man, This is the game is fun. Man.
It ain't like pickleball.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
It ain't like it's real, like I can vouch for it.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
It ain't like your grandma can come out there and
just be whooping up on you, like, yes, king grandma played,
Can Grandpa play? Yes, there's some ballers, but you actually
move and you sweat.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Listen. Me and Trey went out there to Matthews. Matthews
has a location, yep, Charlotte Paddle, Charlotte Paddle. And I
was out there for what two hours?

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Bro?

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yes, And I didn't even realize that we were out
there for that long.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Man.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
If I would have realized we was out there for
that long, I probably still would have stayed. Yeah, but
I got the best workout that I've gotten and probably
five years since I ran a half marathon.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah yeah, I mean, and you could play with all
ages again. I was just playing with my kids, they're
four and six, just being able to go a little
bit with them.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
You know what we need to do. We need to
go right now. This is a message to all Carolina
Panther veterans. Come on, come on, come see us. Let's
let's run a day just with the families, man.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Because that's that'd be half of our battles, like half
our days is like, Bro, we want to hang out
with each other. We want to get the families together,
but we have so many different schedules. But it's just like,
let's get a day where we could just all get
together at a venue like this, you know what I mean.
Knowing that they have swim the swimming pool has paddled,
if you want to play pipy, you want to play tennis,
but a hub that we could spend a day, and

(16:33):
you know what I'm saying, But that's why we're talking
with them, because you know, we want to we want
to have that, and then inviting the fans in on that,
you know what I'm saying, having days where they can
come in and have fun with.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Us, because that's what I see, you know, moving forward
with that move. But like the camaraderie aspect is what
we all look forward to, absolutely, and that's what I
love about golf. And when I got a chance to
go and hang out with you for two hours and
and basically like team it's like team bonding. It's like
I loved this. It's like he's communicating to me and

(17:06):
I'm listening and like we good like ain't no like
ego here. We just try to win.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Life having fun. We're playing against an olympian and a
marathon runner. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's so dope, man,
telling the community, we're going to build Plaine Paddle. It's
going to be unbelievable around Charlotte. So let's get into it.
Anybody want to play hit up mister portquatro and I'll
tell you what mister portquatcho means later.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yeah hmm, yeah, he'll tell you because I don't know
what it means you'd be saying it. But uh, now
let's get to it, man. Week two, come on, Carolina Panthers,
they gotta come through. But before we get to week two,
we got to discuss a little bit of week one.
Jacksonville wasn't the best showing. Uh. You know, Carolina showed

(17:54):
some flashes uh.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
In week one.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
But if you if you were in the locker room, Trey, yep,
what would you praise first? And what would you say
needs a little bit more ownership?

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Okay, praise what am I praising first? I'm gonna say this.
I liked a few individuals performances, so I just want
to get to that first. I'm praising away Tech played.
I thought Tech played like a dog. If that's if
that's week one and that's what you're showing me week one,
I'm absolutely happy at that. J C. Horn unbelievable lockdown.

(18:31):
This this guy is everything I've been trying to tell
people who is No matter if he's heard it, matter
if he man, I don't care. What. Give that man
money because he gonna lock stuff up. Big physical corner,
one handed pick. The man makes plays. Man. So I
thought I liked the line until we started getting banged up.
I'm gonna be honest, and I thought I thought that

(18:52):
interior defensive line looked well. Once we took a couple
of injuries, you know, they started running that ball, and
then I will say I think that's it. Man. I'm
gonna be honest. I'm gonna be honest, and what I
will say is is just week one. It's just week one.

(19:13):
We're oher and one. So I'm not making this a
big deal. I'm not panicking. I'm looking I'm not even
having talks with guys like, hey, guys, we got to
tighten up. No, no, no, it's not even that time yet,
but it is time to look at each other, be honest,
come to work the next day. We ain't even got
to talk about it. But we need to come to
work laser like focused and know what we're about to

(19:38):
go on. Because I'm also saying this that Jaguars team
wasn't a great team.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
They they they we made them look better than what
they really were for sure, because they had they had
some chunk plays, and the chunk players comes from that
being in certain positions where you're supposed to be at.
We'll get to that, but you know, if I said
to you, finish the job, yes, that would be basically
kind of the echo that I would have, uh, you

(20:05):
know going throughout that locker room.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Finish the job, because when did they have the No.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
So as far as you know, making you know, completing catches, right, finishing,
it's the job. If they're if you're in position to
make a block, finish the block. If you're in position
to make the tackle, finish the tackle, right, run through guys,
you know that's that's tho. Those are the things that
I think first week finish is all. Obviously, one team

(20:35):
is more prepared probably than the other, especially you have
an away game, you have a weather delay, you have
all these things that could be labeled as excuses. But
when you take an excuses because that's what we roll with, right,
you know. But I would have to say this, though,
you have to show up in week two and you

(20:57):
have to win this game in a way that proves
to yourself that you understood what your wrongs were and
you corrected them, because what it is is you don't
want this week one to be a trend.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
For sure, because these losing happened fast.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Right, exactly fast, very fast. It's the NFL. We've been
on teams where we've kind of been lack of days
ago about things like oh well we'll get over that,
or oh well, don't sweat the small stuff. But I've
also been on teams where we might have won games
that were really close and we gotten on that plane
and we've been like it was it was a quiet

(21:34):
plane ride.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
You would have thought we would have lit for sure.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Right.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
So if you have those types of games, have that
type of energy, yes, But if you show up and
handle your business, that's when it's fun. When you know
that on offense we did our thing, and on defense
we did on things and special teams we did our things.
We got to figure out a way to find you know,
more glimpses of complete games. Okay, you know what I'm saying.

(22:00):
So week one or so week two we go to Arizona. Yes,
And I want to talk about a guy that you
played with, Buddha Baker, right cold, right. You know, the
level of his play and his energy is something that

(22:21):
stands out to me all the time I turn that
tape on man when it comes to filling his role
in the run game and the passing game. If I'm
the Carolina Panthers, I'm watching.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Film, Where's he at? Where's number three?

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Where's where's he at? Where's he where is he at?
And not in the sense of Bryce needs to be threatened? No, right,
but we just need to make sure that we understand
how to take advantage of his aggressiveness.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Absolutely right, Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
So, going into week two, coming off of what we
just witnessed, what are some things that we have an
opportunity to have an upper leg on when it comes
to playing Arizona, especially on offense, being a defensive guy.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, I want to make this about us because first,
you know how it goes like, this is about us,
and it is about finishing plays. It is about we
have what it takes to be good. We'll see if
we can be great, right, but we have what it

(23:28):
takes to be good. Can it come together? Because there's
pivotal plays last week that start, like you said, trends,
but momentum swings. You have one play that triggers into
the next. You have a catch that you don't get
your foot down. You have a crossing route that maybe

(23:49):
you slowed up on. Bryce doesn't give the best ball,
gets tipped picked off. Unfortunate. Yeah, you want these plays back.
You have Bryce before half the ball. All you want
on the inside fade the renfoll back. You want him
to kind of put that there. There's so many players
that are like you were saying, that they didn't finish.
Those are missed opportunities. So when you have six missed

(24:16):
opportunities in football games, those are whole swingers. So for me,
I want to see it's not only finished, but this week,
going into this game, let's have the urgency of making
sure that you aren't being questioned for what happened last week. Now,
what you said is you want to see them win

(24:36):
in the fashion that makes them know that they're there.
But I want to say this, I want to see
us just win. You can celebrate however you want. And
this is how I say that. Obviously can't do everything,
but when you're dealing with teams who don't have foundations

(24:59):
of winning, the mentality to lose is so much quicker
to get to easier. We're oh and one. And what
are the fans saying right now? Oh, here we go again,
Here we go again. They're throwing in the elimination cars
already got it's oh in one.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
How do you block that out?

Speaker 2 (25:19):
It's oh in one?

Speaker 1 (25:20):
But how do you block that out? If you're a
young guy that doesn't understand the context of what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
First, you need veterans who are gonna let you know that,
hey man, like we're owing one. We're good, we're good,
and we only lost because he's six plays And these
six plays end up trickling to the this this next
three drives where we can't stop the ball. This one
player busting out for seventy five yard makes it look
like this guy has one O two at half And

(25:46):
now you like, oh man, he got one hundred yards
a half man, what are we doing? No, you just
messed up one place. So going into the locker, room.
We got to tighten up half guys who can get
the guys and let them know we're good.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Do you think they have the right mindset? Do you
see them? Do you see glimpses of guys that have
the right mindset?

Speaker 2 (26:06):
I think so, I think I see I got even.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Better questions, Yes, for sure, because we're going to talk
about thievery because I want to know. I want to
know because I'm asking a lot of the DBS. There
are versions of when thieves have was announced right, and
that moment when you were I guess invited into the

(26:30):
thieves or word thieves like like like like what was that?
When did that happen? And how was that formed? Because
I want to get back to that because that's what
in my opinion, that's a mindset that lived in the
secondary but was also a catalyst for sure for that defense.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
All great teams need identities. When you think about all
the best is they have a nickname or you know
what I mean, the legion of Boom, you know, like
you know I said, like when you have people and
you when you give human beings something to rally around,

(27:15):
we'll go hard, keep pounding. We don't play by that drama.
We don't play. That's life. So for me, we embodied that.
It happened crazy. His story is we actually got that
from Eric Washington. Okay, d line coach. The coach gave
y'all thieves in practice. Really it was just like, man,

(27:39):
y'all boys, Just y'all be stealing, y'all.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Just y'all take.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
The ball from the quarterbacks and grind y'all. Just this
is a nasty stevey. Y'all thieves. Aaron Washington gave that
to y'all. And it's crazy because we embodied because we
were we're trying to field. Yeah, we're trying to rob
from the rich and give back to the folk. Right

(28:05):
and then at the same time cam handing out the football.
You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1 (28:08):
What year was that? Was that twenty fourteen?

Speaker 2 (28:11):
No, I want to say the team. I want to
say that was fifteen. Okay, I want to say, No,
it might have been fourteen. I almost don't remember not
being a theme.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Was it?

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Just like what I'm saying, I don't even know what
it's like to not be a thief. So it might
have been fourteen. It might have been fourteen.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
I forget. You were just like morphed into this, this thievery.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
This this stealing, just knowing that hey, if I do
it's heist. It's like a heist. Every week we're going
into the game plan. We're seeing who the best player is,
We're seeing how they know when they do it. Like, Okay,
what's the timing on when you like to do it?
Oh you'd like to be here at this time. Okay,

(28:56):
we're gonna catch you heist here at high time. It's thieves,
ass is Stevey.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
So you just really plotting the whole time throughout the
week watching film. I am he like sending notes to
your boy in the back in the back of the room,
like hey, you see this, Yeah, when he takes his when.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
He's when he when he goes three by one and
he motioned the two two by two and number one is.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
On the ball and he flocked up and stuff.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
It's stuck. Hey, Steve wills give you some Steve Whist
will tell you right now. He'll tell you listen, everything
is ninety nine point nine percent, but that point zero
zero one, that's you know, that's that's on me. You
know what I mean. Like, but if I tell you something,
they mean it. Boy, when when Wilkes uh Dermott, when

(29:44):
them boys told you something was gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
It happened.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
You. I'm out there, Frost. People think I'm I'm just
out there, just willing, nearly, just trying to jump routes. No,
Wilkes and Numbers told me seventeen. Yeah that they told me. So.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Alignment with the players and the coaching staff was just
throughout the room.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
So now we're going back to a family. We're going
back to a family. So going back to going to
win and building a foundation, build your wins any way possible,
and stack your wins, and then you get to a
point where you're five to six wins down the road
and you've built an identity of win ning, and now
you understand in big games when something goes wrong, oh no, guys,

(30:26):
we can win these games. And now we talk about
twenty fifteen when we found out game after game, oh
we're those guys.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
I remember seeing like Thanksgiving game when Kurt Coleman ran
that ran that interception back. Yeah, it was actually kind
of like a bunch of thieves like, hey, we got it.
Let's go home.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
It's a highest let's run. So it comes line linebackers,
like we were all thieves. Like you think about that season,
I want to say, Luca Foe picks, TD had three picks,
d Lion had a couple of picks. We're all thieves.
So when you take on the identity of like, oh
my god, this team has something to everybody, bunch of hoodlums,

(31:12):
even the coaches. Everybody. Man, we're running out with baseball
We SUSEDI to run out with baseball bats back in
the days.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
You just trying to play.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
That's an identity that you have to build. It don't
just come all right.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
So when you talk about playing free, like you were
basically explaining, you know, it takes the whole entire unit
to be able.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Oh thank you so much. Thank you so much for
saying that.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Because because when you talk about that defense, you had
Luke Keithley Thomas Davis, you have Charles Johnson, you have
star star KKT Mario Addison, j No, you got Kirk
Coleman Harper, you got Portland Finnigan, Jared Allen, Jared Allen.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Oh my god, young Shack Thompson, Young Shack Thompson came
in a dog fast as all get old. My god.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
So when you have guys that are good players, yes,
but not just good players, you have good coaching.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
That's basically telling me great coaching. Yes, saying hey be
here uh huh or else uh huh. That's called doing
your one eleven. Oh guys, if everybody just do their job,
not one team out here can beat us. We really
saw it.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
We really embodied that because when you got on the field,
that's how you play it. You played free absolutely like
like the energy feeling like we talked about run fits right.
We talked about the Carolina Panthers on against the Jaguars.
If you're not in, if you're not in your position,
it's because you're not in. Trust what your players around

(33:04):
you are doing. Yes, if a guy is slipping in,
if you're defensive vents slipping in, you got to make
sure you replace the edge, yes, and make sure you
contain the edge.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
And then if that guy's containing the edge and he's
getting over there, that makes the safety. You have to
be more aware of the fact that I need to
get down there just in case he ain't there, Yes,
because I need to get there quicker.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
That's a lot of talking just to say, do your job.
If I trust you to be in your gap, and
you trust me to be in my gap. And you know,
if it's in my GAP's tackle and it's in your
gap is tackle and it's in his gap, they done
fed up because he's free and that's probably force fumble.

(33:46):
That's how you're talking about going free. Like, Man, you
name those names. We just named all them names, so
many another, so many. Man, I hate to do it. Man,
show me another roster like that in the last a
few years. You know what I'm saying, Like, show me
another roster that you could say him.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
The closest thing to that is seewk.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
So nah, I'm doing it here at the Panthers at
the Panthers. So for me, we're asking a lot of
these young men, a lot of these guys. We gotta stack.
We gotta stack. Like again, man, the names we are

(34:33):
naming are not just some regular deglar people were talking
guys guys. So for me, when you finally get to
plane freeze, because you have guys who you trust in no.
Ninety nine point time, they gonna line up and do
their jobs. So right now again we have to build

(34:54):
that trust. We have to build guys knowing how they
play coaches knowing how they coach, because it took years
for us to get into those teams that foundation.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
And it also took also too, right like having the
opposite side of the ball doing their job right, you
have Cam. Everybody can win with Cam. You know what
I'm saying, Like prime cam.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Boy, You're going to the games knowing we got a
good chance.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
But but you're right, it does take guys. And speaking
of guys, I mean you played and so when you
left here, you went to the Chargers and you went
to Arizona Cardinals. You were with Larry Fitzgerald. Yes, he's
a guy.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Guy.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
You were with Patrick Peterson, he's a guy.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
You were with Buddha Baker, he's a guy.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Chandler Jones, Chandler Jones guy.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Right, Yeah, so we have guys, yes, but what was missing?

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Okay, I love this because y'all know I love talking detail.
Arizona was so stuck on how good they used to
be and making it to the playoffs every year, like, hey,
we don't want to do it this way because we
make the playoffs doing it this way. And me and

(36:12):
Wilkes are like, you know, we have meetings together, you know,
and I just tell them like, man, like, I'm trying to.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Get these guys to see.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Y'all's old ways. I ain't winning no championships, and who
was smacking y'all every time? We didn't want to do it.
So they were so stuck listen, listen. They were so
stuck on just being good that they just they didn't
want to be great, you know what I'm saying. And
I kind of see them still stuck in that lane

(36:43):
right now that you know, they're building a foundation right
now that we'll see what that looks like. But I mean,
sometimes teams get stuck in what used to be because
what used to be was good. Used to it was good.
They like making the playoffs, they like the rave around.
They like when they you know, went to Super Bowl
and a or whatever. I think it was like somewhere

(37:03):
around the way. Yeah. So for me, yeah, when Will's
came in there like hey guys, this is the way
we're going to do things now, everybody who had been
there for years, they just had problems. And I'm just like, gosh,
y'all don't know how to win, you know.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
If we have to go to Arizona, yes and come
out with a victory, yes, and I know you said
finished the job.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah, I got detailed on this.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Come on, Kyle Murray, he is going to be out
there trying to run rampant. Yes, he's going to be
out of that pocket. And the good thing is we
gave up a lot over across the middle against the Jaguars.
Him being short in stature, I ain't worried about him
throwing across the middle, right, So we got to make

(37:51):
sure we keep him there right, just like you said.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
So contained, contained and what what what? What was one
more key you you would give to a short quarterback,
contain and press the press the pocket, press the pocket. Yeah,
so we got to get him one to stay on
his ex but don't allow him to step up in

(38:14):
that pocket.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
So you so when you say don't allow him to
step up, you mean for the nose the backers, to
make sure you press on that center in them.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
To god, absolutely, you know. And something we know as
Carolina fans is we have Damien and Robert right now
and that doesn't happen often anymore, you know what I'm saying.
So we came in and it saved line. It's saved line.
We appreciate them boys. Hey, I'll add that to my list.
Y'all boys still ball into appreciate you. You know what
I'm saying. Let y'all boys know, but that's what we

(38:44):
have to do to them. We have to make Kyler
uncomfortable early. Kyler is one of those guys who once
he finds a rhythm, it's on. Like he lights up.
He's he's, he's His mentality is known for winning, so
he can become a winner real quick. So it's how
can you strip him of doing what feels right to

(39:05):
him and natural in the flow of how he likes
to play the game. It's exactly what you're saying, a
little bit of pressure and when he gets outside the pocket,
we just got to tackle, you know what I'm saying. Like,
if we can tackle well on third down, I think
we win this ball game. Get off the field on
third down, tackle well, and press that pocket. You're gonna
see what you want from Kyler playing him before he's

(39:26):
gonna throw the ball deep. But I truthfully don't like
his deep ball.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
I don't kind of sales a little bit.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
I love it, you know, I love it as a player.
You know what I'm saying. I love it as a player.
But like as in I don't like it. It's like
it doesn't threaten me much, you know what I'm saying.
So for me, I'm cool with that. Just don't let
him get away with intermediate routes, which are like your
your comebacks, your career.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Buddha know where boodoo is. Yep, we got Kyler Murray. Yep,
Kyler Murray. Contain uh, make sure we press him.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
That boy will over there playing Connor.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Oh I'm him?

Speaker 2 (40:04):
Yeah, Okay, running back, how do you feel about if
how you stop a big.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
If you are dB yes for the Carolina Panthers and
you are facing a team that can run, run the rock,
physical running back, he's watching films saying, Oh, I can't wait.
I cannot wait to get a chance to get a
one on one because you, as a running back, you
are told if you get a one on one you win.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
You should yea.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
He is licking his jobs after two hundred yard performance
that Jaguars put on the Carolina Panthers. If you are
a Carolina Panther d B, or a linebacker or defensive
tackle d N defense as a whole, what is your
point of emphasis this week? Going into this game?

Speaker 2 (40:54):
We let them boys respond to.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Eighth time, I'm in a row, you know.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Okay, So what I'm gonna do is, yeah, Arizona's looking
at chops and anybody who's playing us is looking the
chops to have an upfront battle, Like, hey, what's your
front seven doing versus our front seven? And what we're
noticing is front sevens are outlasting our front sevens. I
like our front sevens in the first two three quarters.
You know what I'm saying. You know, one one of

(41:30):
two bad run fits. You know what happens, you know,
but you through injury or through games. We're noticing that
fourth quarter has been a spot for us that we're
not being able to finish games. Now, you got to
get to the fourth quarter and be in a good
position for that. But yeah, this, this is this is
the type of defense that I think has to start

(41:51):
first with. We're gonna stop the run, like, like, what
is your identity? This is what we got to do first.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
We cannot alle to ever think that you're gonna be
able to run.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
I don't care if we got to stack the box,
put eight in the box, like we like, you have
to start the identity. You cannot run the ball because
it's gonna make the game so much easier on you.
Now you have Kyler Murray where you know he wants
to throw the ball. You know he's gonna throw the ball.
Now you got James Connor. You know it's pretty good
out the backfield. But he's not hurting you as a
running threat. So for me those first two three series,

(42:23):
you have to take care of the run. Now, take
care of the run is a four quarter game. But
we're talking about building identities like starting games. You know,
if they're running the ball, is there a tackle for loss?
Putting them behind the chains to get them back in
the past. And let's be honest, putting points on the
board helps defenses, Yes, very much. You want them to

(42:43):
stop running ball, put some points on the on the board,
I promise you, like it'll make the defense. Just please
special teams, every everybody. It's complimentary ball as a team,
so you know every I mean we can be honest
and be humble and humble at the same time and
knowing like we can get better at all three phases
of the ball.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Yeah, I like that, bro.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
And then you know.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
This is a game that's obviously winnable. Watching the Saints
play them. I don't think the Saints are good. Obviously,
it's the first week of the season. That's in the books.
Going into week two, guys are still you know, coming
into I think, look, I look at Derek Brown. He
didn't play football last year, and so this you know,

(43:29):
for the fans out there, you should absolutely be like, okay,
hold up, wait a minute, but realize that this game
is a marathon.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (43:40):
It may feel like a spring at times, but it's
a marathon. And you wait for guys like Derek Brown
to get conditioned. You wait for guys like Christian rose
Boom to get really familiar in a new setting. You know,
this guy, this is a guy that came into his
own and you know in LA last year, you know,

(44:00):
he had a breakout season and we picked him up.
Saw something in them. He's over there, you know, calling
the defense. I looked, I looked. I look forward to
seeing some of the younger guys step up, you know, Thornton,
I look forward to seeing Ransom.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
I love that way.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
You know, I would like to see the money Richardson
out there.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
I've heard a lot about him, you know, I would like.

Speaker 1 (44:20):
To see a little bit more of him. Out there.
But as as the season goes, we'll start to see
the cohesion come together. Right, I got to ask you
this one question before we get out of here, and
we're going to end on this thieves ad. We need
to have a thieves as player of the game every
game here on now.

Speaker 2 (44:42):
Okay, Well, we gotta win because.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
We gotta win, and okay, I like that.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
We gotta win.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
So for every win, that's got to be a thieves
a guy because.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
That guy, because because he actually But.

Speaker 1 (44:55):
Before we go into that, is there any play yes
on the defense today? Yes, that would be able to
be a part of Thieves ave in twenty fifteen.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
I don't say the name about full time Jonas there
all right, ladies and gentlemen, Jacon, it's easy, jac And
I like young Ransom again, I don't seen enough footage.
I say I need them young thumper young. I need
a young crash out young boy. I was him.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
I'm saying I was him to comparison with him. That's
why I like Boston.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
I like him.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Ransom. You was used the new tray Boston.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
I'll put you on, bro, young boy, I like you.
Thank you for your time. Dog coming in.

Speaker 1 (45:41):

Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
