Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, tex Sins, Welcome to the show. Mark Vandermaer and
John Harris with you in the air conditioned cozy confines
of the Hundai Texans Radio Studio at NRG Stadium on
a very eventful day. Here, very eventful couple of days
in Texans camp as it continues. The team practicing under
the hot sun today. There was some cloud cover, but
I've been dramatic. It was really hot. They practiced midday

(00:23):
and then the media, as you've probably seen posts of,
was greeted to a well an indoor event. What's new
at NRG Stadium with a new video board. Heck, yeah,
that was cool with Mike Toman the president, new video board,
new food options, and look, the Texans are always trying
to take it up a few notches every year.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Why not? But this video board is for real. I
saw them installing this thing. You did too.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
This thing is what did he say? Eight times? It's
the resolution on It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's eight times of resolution.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
There was some credible, there was some multiple just looking
at the video board and I'm not easily impressed with
these things.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
The tail I was impressed.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I want to see Godfather Part one and two on
the video board.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
We should have movie nights.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Yes, that'd be a money making idea. We're just idea
guys here. Yes we are movie night, bring you sleeping
bags on the field. Yeah, and movie night we get
to pick the movie. And yes, that that's the way
that it's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Streen.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
We've already told you about the speaker the sound system
because we were up. I was up working in the
booth one day because they were doing work in the studio,
so we just went up to the booth. I was
up in the booth and I'm writing and all of
a sudden, like the booth started shaking. I was like,
I thought it was thunder outside, and then it kept going.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
I'm like the.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Under our broadcast booth, I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Know, but they that place rocks.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
And there was a kind of a hype video that
uh I heard your voice because they put it playing
over some highlights.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, and I was.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Like, man, it's like Marcus screaming at me. And I
know he's not, but it's just like the speakers are
that good.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
So but it was deep and it had this effect
to it. Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
So when you're in the stadium, you're gonna hear, and
I know that was one of the things talking to
different Texans personnel over the years.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Like when we go to other stadiums.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
I can't remember what stadium we were in one year
last year and they were like, Wow, these speakers are good.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I'm like, well, Minnesota, mid Minnesota. I couldn't hear a thing.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
They were doing a youth cheerleader performance at halftime, and
so they were practicing it right before I went on
with Sean and Seth on a pregame show, and it
was I mean, I couldn't hear myself.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Think I was yelling at Air. I'm like, Aaron, turn
up the station. I can't even he goes John, I'm
giving you all I've got. I literally could not hear
them when they would crank up the music. Luckily they
finished like two minutes before I did my hit, and
when every time they played the music, it was like, oh,
then a horn.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
So the acoustics we got that, now, we got that.
Now we've got that. Now. I don't want the horn.
I hate that horn.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
No, No, we don't need that horn. We don't just
need it to be great.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Like Mike said, he said that when big things happen
and they let that subwar for whatever sound effects system rip.
He said it much more eloquently than I just did.
It is gonna be really special and I can't wait
to hear that. That's one great thing. One of the
great things about coming this Saturday noonkick Carolina Panthers in town.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
We're gonna hear that thing.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
We're gonna see the video board, We're gonna get the
sneak preview of the regular season version of that, because
you know they're gonna unveil some new stuff for the
regular season, but they want to really take this thing
for a big test drive as far as game presentation goes.
And of course the team wants to test drive some
things as well. Absolutely, because here we go with the
Carolina Panthers coming in on Thursday, Johnny, and we saw

(03:53):
another spirited practice today in pads before we go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
And I know you mentioned it last night.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
We had a lot of best of stuff from the
Monday Morning Show last night, but you mentioned Brev and
it's just one of those things that we're gonna have
to live with here. It hits you on so many
different levels. You and I talk about it all the time.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
We're in this building.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
We see these players more than anybody, and Brev is
one of those guys that you see every day. I
saw him every day this offseason rehabbing the knee, getting ready.
He didn't do anything as far as team stuff in
OTAs in mini camp because he wanted to be sure
he was ready for training camp, and he was ready
for training camp. Unfortunately, he's gone for the year IR,
and when you're on IR before the Tuesday cuts on

(04:32):
August twenty sixth, that means you are out for the season.
It's not designated to return. He's done for the year
and this is his last year of his contract. We'll
see if they resign him. Whatever happens to him. Bred
can play football.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
We know this.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
He's just got to stay healthy.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
And that was one of those freak things again, Johnny,
when he grabbed the knee, I felt like I was
looking right at him because I was even with the
goal line. It was just over the goal line, and
he just had this look of sort of disbelief on
his face for a moment, like I don't know, and
got he said, I'm good, but all of.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
A sudden reality set in.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
I'm sure the pain set in and the guys came
over and everyone's heard about the scene and it was
just so emotional, and we wish him the best. He's awesome,
and I hope to see him around a lot as
he rehabs the knee again. Or I don't know which
one it is versus the other, but the thing is,
I assume it's a knee.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I could be wrong.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
The thing is, he's such a good dude and you
want to see him out there. He'll always have a
place in Texans lore for the long catch and run
touchdown he had the Cleveland playoff game, but I'd love
to see him do more stuff in deep steel blue.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
In the future.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
Absolutely, he is a salt of the earth human being.
Every time he came in here with us, he had
a smileless face.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
He was just.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
He's just been such a great ambassador of Texans football,
what this program is all about. He had to go
through the ups and downs of multiple head coaches, multiple
offensive coordinators. You know that he got hurt in the
Bears game last year and you felt for him, and
you know he came back and I just remember seeing
him a camp.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
He just had a hit pep and his step.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
He was so excited about being back and playing football again.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
And I think that and that's what hurt him.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Now, I'm not saying a damn word about all that
was out there about.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
You know, emotions and who was crying and who wasn't.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
And you know what if it guy cries because the
teammate got hurt, So be it right. You can miss
me with this freaking nonsense. Well, you know, quarterbacks shouldn't
be crushed. Whatever. I'll take my quarterback all day, every day,
because when he has that sort of emotion for teammates,
that tells you he cares. And you, I guarandamn to

(06:39):
you that every text in that locker room will stand
behind seven, every single minute of every freaking day.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Done. So back to Brev.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
The irony of this, in some sense, in the sad irony,
is we watched on Saturday a guy do the exact
same thing. Rondell Moore had missed all of four with
an acl has a punt, gets.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Tackled by Jamal Hill.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
He is going out for the second consecutive year as well,
and we just I mean, as he went down and
he started pounding the turf during a game and he
was on our end, we could see it.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
And then he got on the cart and he pounded
the cart again.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
And you just knew, You just knew, especially when you've
had it the year before. He knew immediately what had
happened when he got tackled, and you're like, oh my god,
can you imagine this?

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Just oh my heart went out to Rondelle Moore for that.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
And I don't know Rondel Moore at all, but your
heart goes out to guys that do all the rehab
and get back and then all of a sudden it
happens to you again before you can even get rolling,
and we're just like, oh my god. And so when
Brev went down, I did think about Rondel Moore for
a second, like this can't be happening, and this cannot.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Be second practices.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I mean, yeah, the Laste Yes, at the Greenbrier, we
had the same or a similar scene with CJGJ.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
And luckily he's not out for the year.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
We think Ryan Dimico said he would be back at
some point, but he's not very definitive on that.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Of course, because they don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
But he's not on IR yet, but he could be
when the cuts are made, because that could be designated
to return, or maybe he's back with the team week one.
I don't know, but anyway, Brev is out. It's just
weird that you had back to back practices in completely
different environments and you had that scene repeat itself.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Exactly, and then in between that you've got Rondelle Moore
going down and you know from the vikings and the
game we're playing in and you just I say this
to people all the time, you know, for a lot
of people that you know watch his fans, you know,
I mean, it's such a great, such a great sport
to watch, but man, it is it is violent, it

(08:54):
is dangerous. The guys that play this are special dudes.
And every now and again you get a guy that's
Scott everything that you're looking for, athleticism, smarts, a sense
of humor, a great smile, a great teammate, just a
great guy all round, and you just hate that it's
Brevin Jordan that has to go through this now for

(09:14):
a second year.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
So that's you know, that's the hard part of all this.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Now, the football part of all this, if we transition
to that is okay, now there's no breath, so how
does that change?

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Offensively?

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Some of the plans you had so for Nick Cayley
and Jake Moreland tight ends coach, What okay, these are
the plans. We're gonna run some twelve personnel with Dalton
and Brev, or with Brev and Caid. Maybe it's a
thirteen personnel because Brev is such a good wide receiver. Well, okay,
you can't do that with Breav anymore. So how does
it change some of the things you're gonna do? Does
it change any of the roster spots? I mean, you

(09:51):
would think Brev's gonna make the roster, So maybe that's
one available open spot that somebody else can step into,
be a tight end or be a different position, don't know.
It also opens up Nick Cassario to finding potentially an
another tight end, another athletic dude. What about Irv Smith,
hopefully he can get back from the injury. Say, does

(10:13):
Luke Lashay step into a little different role? Does Nick
Kaylee change a little bit and say, okay, well, maybe
twelve wasn't gonna work. Maybe twelve was gonna work, but
maybe it doesn't work as well right now. Maybe we'll
be a little bit more eleven personnel. And one of
the things that I noticed over the last few days,
and this is what I like about this receiver room
is you can have different versions of eleven personnel, right

(10:37):
because you can have Dalton Schultz in the game. Yeah,
that's gonna feel almost like four wides on a field
in some in some situations. Yeah, then you can put
different packages of receivers. You can put all the cyclones
out there with with Dalton, you could put all the
cyclones out there and maybe Yaka blinds up at tight
end and now maybe you're heavy, but you still can

(10:58):
throw the ball because you've got three wide receivers on
the fiel.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
So it opens, I should say it opens.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
It alters potentially what Nick Keley might have wanted to
do a little bit. But now he goes back to
the drawing board in a sense and say, Okay, we
don't have Brev.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
It's a tough blow.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
But how do I react, How do we react? What
do we change anything? And I always go back to
what Sean McVay talked about his offense with the Rams.
He went in with one thought. He got there, he
started working with a talent and it changed. He became
a different Okay, we're going to be more twelve personnel
than I originally thought, and maybe this is something that

(11:34):
forces Nick Keyley to be a little bit of a
different personnel group than he wants to be. So you
never know what's gonna end up happening. From the football
side of things. You know, there's probably a roster spot
open because Brev is gonna have a roster spot, and
you just wonder, what does this change. Is it an
additional receiver you keep is it going on getting another
tight end? Is the tight end group as it is

(11:56):
good and it's just the next next guy up. Luke
lushe potentially steps into that role. Who knows, but I'm
curious to see how it unfolds. It's just unfortunate that
we've got to do it without number nine.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
It's a great opportunity for Leche or Keen or whoever
right to step up.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Dalton Keen.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Absolutely, they're gonna keep at least three tight ends at
least and have one on the practice squad. I mean
there's four on the in the building, Yes, just put
it that way. Absolutely, it's going to be four in
the building and you can adjust accordingly. We don't know
Irv's injury. Hopefully IRV gets back Irv is a pro.
I mean he can find a way to contribute, great blocker.
Guy's just a professional tight end. It's not like he's

(12:35):
the second coming of Kellen Winslow, Antonio Gates or something
like that.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
But Irv can help your football team.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
You can't so Brev.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
I got a feeling that a lot of nice stuff
planned for Brev. It wasn't like he was going to
catch seventy balls, but Brev was going to catch thirty
to forty and he was going to make some big
plays for this football team. And the yak potential, the oh,
let's throw it to Brev three yards and then he's
gonna go get twelve more or more than that because
he's gonna bowl somebody over. That's Brevin Jordan in addition

(13:05):
to the other stuff he can do. So and Shaw
made the point moments before. You might have said this
last night, two moments before he went down. He made
a hell of a play in that team period in
practice yesterday. So anyway it'll affect them. There's no doubt.
Injuries are part of football. We all know it. The
Texans are actually knock Wood in pretty good shape compared

(13:27):
to a lot of teams around the league. Look at
the Chargers in their tackle situation. Heck, look at the
Texans in their tackle situation. There would be and I'll
put that in air quotes right now. Because Tayor's three
is going to start a left tackle for this team.
We thought so we reported, man, I don't want to
say reported this, but we observed that he was moving
in with the ones prior to Cam Robinson's injury. But

(13:47):
you want Cam Robinson healthy. I mean, you got Cam
Robinson on this football team. We eat them healthy. And
I'm looking over at the side field and I'm seeing
Trent Brown. Trent Brown would be handy right now to
have on this football team. And maybe he he's ready
week one to do something. And I don't know how
they juggle the roster at that point in the depth
chart and who knows, but I want Trent Brown healthy.

(14:07):
I want Cam Robinson healthy. You guys figure it out.
The more healthy bodies, the better, the better the soup
is going to be with the better ingredients. You guys
just got to figure out what the measurements are and
let's roll. So I'm eager to see how they put
it all together. But the Texans are pretty damn good
shape relative to the rest of the teams around the league.
Are most of the rest because there are some teams
dealing with some kind of devastating stuff, including, but not

(14:30):
limited to the Week one opponent, because they don't even
know if their quarterback is going to be able to
play Week one.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
That's right, Okay, I want you to rate this hot
take for you.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yet, all right, hot take, Texans offensive line as a
group is better than it was last year at this time.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
At this time, I'm going to rate that as a
two and a half A right, maybe two, Johnny, I
think that Look, all we have is one game to
look at, and not everybody played in that gait. Titus
didn't play in that game, right, Titus can practice Thomson
playing a game. I don't know why Titus didn't practice today.
Maybe it's a veteran sit thing. I don't know if
to me go addressed.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
I think he got a little ding with something.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
All right, ding is one thing I love these dinged
carted off ding.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
No, he was not carting.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
No, no, no, no, don't put that voodoo on video.
Don't put that no, no, no, he's not cut it off.
I was joking about that. But I saw a video today.
It was uh it was from a Los Angeles Rams
game in nineteen sixty nine, and a guy had a
ice pack on his ankle and they had him on
a metal folding chair. Oh God, had like you know

(15:33):
the carts you get at Costco.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Maybe you stack stuff up.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, he was one of those sitting on the little
chair and they're like, this is carted off in nineteen
sixty nine.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
I love it, man, I lost, just like I love
the super smity sports stuff. And you see the cars parked. Yeah, yeah,
like a three ver stadium cars parked in the end.
So I'm like, what's the problem here. Yeah, so you
score a touchdown and you run into a Cadillac El Dorado,
big deal, No problem at all.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
So Karoff was joking about that, but I do think
there was a little he got dinged up at some point.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I think I'm not gonna worry. I'm not worry.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
But Johnny, I think your take is not I do
believe that. Look, you don't have Laramie Tunsel here outstanding
pass protector, but the promise of what earth'sery can do,
and this group, the togetherness that they're showing in the
short term, right exactly. I think this offensive line it's
going to take a minute here, it might not happen

(16:32):
this year to reach their full potential. But they don't
need to reach their full full potential. They need to
just be better than you were last year. You need
to be averaged a slightly above average as a group.
As a group, ticularly the next step if you are
that and you can run the ball decently. C J

(16:53):
Stroud in this offense, and you're seeing it every day.
I'm seeing it every day the way he is at
the line, not just in the team live periods, in
the when they go through cards, when they do this.
Even after the injury yesterday, and as emotional as that was,
he's still like Woody line up over here. I got this, Okay,
he's pointing around, he's he's really taking to this. He's

(17:14):
a bright guy. It's going to be interesting to see
him operate this offense. Remember we call it the Patriot
offense or whatever, with a little West Coast mix, however
you want to define it. I'm sure the coaches wouldn't
like that last description I gave. But let's go back
to the Bill O'Brien offense, which was the Patriots offense
and Ryan Fitzpatrick telling us it was the most complicated
offense he's ever been in the Harvard graduate right, and Johnny,

(17:38):
Harvard might not be as good as Brown in your eyes,
but it's still pretty good compared to a lot of
other universities.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
So let's just go.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I don't want to trigger you, but I think Stroud
can handle this. Yeah, I think Stroud can because Kelly
is not going to make it that complicated. He's gonna
try to simplify some things. He's a smart guy himself,
and he's seen all the flaws around the lead trying
to duplicate what they do in New England. You know,
people sometimes forget well, the greatest quarterback of all time

(18:06):
happened to be operating that offense, but he also had
the keys to an offense that enabled him to be
that great. And I think this could really unlock some
things in CJ. And we'll see how it goes. It's
only year three. He's still as we speak right now.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Stratt is only twenty three years old. It blows my mind.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
He was throwing some seeds today.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
I mean, he fastballs today, but there are some balls
that he threw today that I'm like, I had seen
that ninety nine mileur fastball. I mean, CJ is ninety
three to ninety four almost all the time. He's high
velocity when you need it. But he threw he rips
some throws today and I was really impressed with what
he did today, full pad practice.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
He got after it. There's a pick by Kamari. Let
me tell you how special check by CJ.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Let me tell you how good Kamari Losster is getting
so on that play, He's got coverage on Christian Kirk
on the flat route, so he is on top of Kirk,
realizes CJ's trying to stick the ball behind him, spins
around and spins right into the interception.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
I mean, Johnny, I'm like, what, So did you see
what happened in red zone? Because you and I weren't
standing again, so I observed the same thing. I'm like,
Lassiter is too good now. You can't even throw his
way anymore. He's glue on his guys. If there was
one play in red zone, and I'm sure you're going
to talk about this and hits or whatever you do,
but where the plays designed?

Speaker 2 (19:32):
CJS?

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Somehow I think he boots out to the left somehow,
and it's supposed to go to X at the end zone,
but X says he's wearing Lassiter like Lastitter's like, I'm
not biting on this. Somehow they freed up they tried
to free up X and against a lot of corners,
X is going to be wide acre open, but not lasted.
He read it. He's smart. Nick Cassariu said, he practices

(19:53):
like a maniac. He loves these competitive opportunities. And then
I'm thinking, oh, why don't you try to go distinctly
for a play, and they do and he picks one
day stuff to go like all right, not a good
idea either, And I think the student's gonna have a
thousand interceptions. I mean, those two guys are like glue,
and then the guys in the middle are just gonna
feast if you can get that pass rush going. It's

(20:15):
very exciting to think about the full potential of this defense.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
And week one it's getting diceier for the la Rams.
It is because Matt Stafford still hasn't practiced.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
And who called that last.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Week we did we talked about that, were like this
back thing he might play. As time has gone on,
when Sean McGray stood up the and said, yeah, he's
gonna work out on Friday and everything goes well over
the weekend.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Who are you going to practice on Monday?

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Well it's Tuesday, and he didn't practice Monday or Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Yeah, so listen, it's getting shut.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Adam Schefter says that people in the building are still
confident that he's gonna be out there week one, that
if there were a game Sunday this week, he would
be playing. But I'm gonna call a little bs here.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Same.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Not that he's getting bad well, he is getting bad information.
I don't think the rams because look whoever he's talking to,
I don't think they're telling Chef to the whole story here.
If they were panicking or really concerned, would they tell him.
Would the leak that Schefter has access to tell him?
Maybe they would. I don't know, but let's just go
with what we know. We're talking about practice, Johnny. I

(21:25):
know Stafford's played a lot of football in this league
and maybe only needs two three weeks to get ramped
up for the opener.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Probably only needs that.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
But if he's out because of the back, right, that's
bothersome that if he's not feeling. If he feels one
hundred percent, why not practice and put the red jersey
and another red jersey on him just like double red jersey.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Don't even breathe near him.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
He would be throwing, right, because you got to get
rhythm with these guys, right, right, Devunta.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Adams is playing with them for the first time. Right.
I thought that Danie Rolosky had a great question.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Adam Schefter was breaking this down NFL LO and Dan
stopped and said, Hey, I got a question. Is he
not practicing because he's unable to function or it's pain?
That was a good question, like, yeah, is it can
he not function or is it painful to even try
and function? And Schefter said, I think it might be

(22:18):
a little bit of both.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Yeah, that's a total guest chef.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
It is guessed by Schefter. By though it was a
great question.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
It's a difference. It's the same result if you can't
function or it's pain. Isn't it kind of tied into
I can't function because it hurts when I do this doctor,
and the doctor says don't do this.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Or or you're trying to do things like you're trying
to throw without triggering it.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
So you're changing the way you throw or the way
you move because you're trying.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
You know, you think about I remember when I had
had the issue back in twenty twenty. I found myself
kind of walking a little bit different because I didn't
want that thing to hurt with every step I took. Ye,
so I kind of I could see the difference between
the two. But it doesn't really matter because he still
hasn't practiced.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Now you said it.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Today is August twelfth, so we got nineteen days August seven.
There's twenty six days we're under. We're three three almost
almost four.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Weeks, three weeks from today. You've got to be practiced.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
He's got to be practicing, getting ready for this game,
you would think. But that here's the thing. And Chefter
said of two, he's like, backs are tricky. That is
exactly right. Remember the most famous back here in Houston
when I got here in two thousand and seven, Tracy McGrady.
He used to have to sit in that gargoyle that
that we used to call him a gargoy because he
set in a big high share because that would help
his back. Larry Bird. When Larry Bird's back went Bird

(23:31):
was done, he was done, he was done. He would remember,
he would lie down on his belly watching the game
right in the corner, and he took shots in it.
It just never, it never worked, and he never he
never was the same. So Mike Sander from the Athletic
put together his quarterback tiers, asking all the executives around
the league and all that that staff for number five,

(23:53):
I mean top tier tier number one by all these
executives around the league. But that back is still an
issue September seventh, which I gotta think it's going to be. Yeah,
he's gotta practice, He's gotta practice some, but what are
you gonna do?

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Shoot him up?

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Every day conversation for a different day.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
But do you think Stafford belongs in the same group
as Burrow, Alan mahomes Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
I think that's Stafford. How do I put this?

Speaker 4 (24:18):
I think Stafford to me is like Billy Joel, Like
he had some good albums you know that got kind
of panned by reviewers. He's still putting together a few hits,
but not like he was before.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
I don't like the analogy. I don't like it. Billy
Joel to me is Tom Brady because he might not
like it, but.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
You might think the musical analogies to you, point being,
I don't I think Stafford.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
I think Stafford had a few hits, but he had
some bad album This is as well because my biggest
complaint with Stafford was he played in Detroit for double
digit how many years was it before he went to
the Rams?

Speaker 2 (24:58):
And he only had four winning seasons in Detroit. So
if he's the.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Best quarterback in the world, or one of them, why
couldn't they get over the hump more often?

Speaker 4 (25:06):
I think Stafford's and quarterback Stafford's best. You could put
him up in that group at his best. Yeah, when
he's he isn't that now, especially now his back injury.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
It's nope, nope not.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Where was Sanchez drafted versus Stafford? They were drafted the
same year in two thousand and nine.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Sanchez was five or six because the Jets went and
got it and Stafford went number one, went number one overall.
Geez okay Mark Sanchez coming here in two thousand and nine,
Oh my guts. It's not one of the most gut
punch Texans losses. But I remember, oh it was drafting Cushing.
It was It was not good. It was not good.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
Sanchez looked all world that day. Who's the title Dustin Keller?

Speaker 3 (25:51):
Is that the name Dustin Keller? Good Pool was just killing?

Speaker 6 (25:54):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Good poll, Dustin Keller? Do tight end?

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Rex Ryan? Oh that was terrible. Anyway, I don't want
to end this segment on that note, but we have to. Uh,
We're gonna get Jonathan Alexander in here, and also we
will visit with British Brooks. You've heard of him running back?
Is he a little full back too? Does he have
that in his DNA? He's got some we'll hear from him,
among other things here on Texans Radio. Back to it

(26:20):
here in the Hunday Texans Radio studio, Mark Vandermer and
John Harris. We're joined by Jonathan Alexander from the Houston Chronicle, and.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Boy, we caught up with you at the Greenbrier.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Everywhere around the planet, Jonathan, and right back here in studio.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
How's it going.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
I mean, it feels great to just get back to Houston.
I was looking back over things. I was in four
states in seven days.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Geez, that's a.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
Lot, you know. I cut the West Virginia tip a
little bit short because I had to go to Cleveland
for a conference, but just to be in four stays
and seven days, it's just a lot.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
That is a lot.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Indeed, what'd you make of practicing in the middle of
the day after.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Going to the Greenbrier last week? Not that I was
reacting to it or anything.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Yeah, it was tough.

Speaker 7 (27:00):
I mean today was probably one of the hardest practices
I'm sure for the players to get through. Definitely from
me to get through. Man, you know, I suddenly I
missed the Greenbrier.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Yeah, oh yeah, big time, totally, especially on Tuesday. I mean,
it was tal de so Jonathan, let's just let's take
a thirty thousand foot view, so to speak, of this
team fully thought of Cossi, Derek Barnett back at practice
a little bit on Tuesday, was good.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Christian Harris get some defensive looks. He's been kind of
ramping up. That was good.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
Damian Pierce ran the ball, man, it was good. You
got some guys back injured. Obviously lost Brev on Monday,
which is a huge blow, but starting to get a
few guys back healthy. What's kind of your thirty thousand
foot view as you look at things as this team
starts to round into maybe kind of rounding second, heading
to third, but joint practice with the Panthers, in the

(27:51):
game against the Panthers, and before we know we're playing
the Rams. Where do you kind of think this team
is right now? You think it's on the right track,
or you think there's still some things you want to
see from either side.

Speaker 7 (27:59):
Of I definitely think they're on the right check number one.
That defense looks like it's really good, and they're deep,
particularly at the defensive line, the linebacker spot, cornerbacks are
building a little bit of depth. Safety has been a
little bit depleted, but I still think, you know, even
with CJ. Gardner Johnson's injury, they can still be you know,
good for this team. But it's a really deep defense. Offense,

(28:23):
you know, they started out slow at the beginning of
training camp, but really in this last week they've come
on together and really started to play well. Offensive line.
You know a lot of people might disagree with me
at this, but I really like the new offensive line combination.
And nothing against Cam Robinson, but I think Arianta Erstrie
is a natural left tackle, Tyers Howard is a natural
right tackle, and since they've made that change, their defense

(28:46):
has not given their offensive line has not given up
as many sacks as they did in the past, So
I think the offense is coming along. I thought they
looked pretty good on that first drive, and they just
have to keep it.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Up, all right, running the football, Chubb, Pierce thought, because mixing,
we still don't know, and I don't know if we
will know until what is it two weeks from today
when you get the cuts?

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Is it too?

Speaker 1 (29:08):
It's three weeks it's three weeks from No, it's two
weeks from today that we get today, Yeah, two weeks
from today.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Geez, next week is Detroit And yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
What the heck's going on over here?

Speaker 3 (29:19):
I'm telling you.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
As you get older, time flys it flies fly said
it rounding second heading for third here to use the
baseball metaphor and metaphor in training camp. But Jonathan, what
do you make of that as we get closer to
the cuts.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Yeah, that's another one of the harder position groups to evaluate.
I mean, you bring in Nick Chubb because you think
he might have the ability to lead the offense. You
get Damian Pierce back, and from what everything, from what
I know, the coaching staff trust Damian Pierce. Plus he's
a good kick returner. Too, so I think, and Dari

(29:51):
look good in the preseason game. He's a do it
all guy. How do you let go of a guy
like that? Woodie Marx is your rookie, fourth round rookie
you drafted in pretty hard.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
That's a high investment.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
I don't know what they're gonna do with the running
back room.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
And maybe Joe Mixing stays on that list NFI list
for the first few games of the season and then
they have enough room and they can see what Nick
Chubb does. But I think that's a hard running back
room to judge against.

Speaker 4 (30:20):
Minnesota preseason game and a lot of stars played, and
all the stars played, there were a few guys. Was
there a guy or too Jonathan that you thought, Hey,
this guy looked really good and he's gonna play more
than likely this year because we know the guys in
the second half. There are a lot of guys that
might make a practice squad, may not make a roster.
But was there a guy or too that you thought,

(30:40):
this guy's got a chance to.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Play this year. And I liked what he showed on
Saturday against the Vikings.

Speaker 7 (30:46):
Yeah, a guy who was kind of completely changed my opinion,
Like I just didn't know what to expect of Braxton Barrios.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
Yeah, coming off the ACL injury.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
Didn't see him at all in the spring, and he's
performed well in training camp catching the ball, and he's
a valuable piece in the return game. And I wouldn't
be surprised if the Texans decided to keep seven receivers
on this team and have Rex and Burials be that
kind of specialty guy in return and be receiver. But
I think he looks good and he even said on

(31:17):
Tuesday that he's getting better, he's getting stronger. He's not
one hundred percent so, and he ran some with the
first team. So he's the guy who's impressed me. And
I think he's going to make this team if he continues.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Who's going to be the third leading receiver among the
receivers on the team, So I would figure Schultz would
mix into the top three, maybe Stover even, but I'm
not going to count them because they're tight ends among
the wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Got Nico Kirk and then who what.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Do you think?

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Okay, so early on I would have said Higgins, and
I still think Higgins has crazy ability. I think he's
maybe been a little bit nervous or maybe not had
as many opportunities. But somebody who really impressed me that
first game is Jaillen Nole. I think they're gonna find
a way to get him on the football field, and
I think he's gonna make some plays. He in a
in a way, they have a little bit different games,

(32:07):
but in a way he kind of reminds me of
tink though.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Okay, just in a way. Yeah, he's got that.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
He's got that sudden ability to get out of his cuts.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
You want to do you want a hot take? Go ahead,
rate the hot take?

Speaker 4 (32:21):
All right, Jayden Higgins will be one of the top
two receivers on this team that session a four.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
That's a four.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
Okay, wait wait, wait, hold on, Let's rewind that he
will be top two in either receptions yards, touchdowns yards.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I could see him making some big plays, right, Jonathan,
But reception Kirk is gonna catch a lot of balls
on this team, and obviously twelve is twelve.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Yep, yeah, I agree. I think.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
So you're saying it, what a four, I'm saying a
four that's a four yards might be a three.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Okay, Okay. I just think eighty one is special. I
think that dude, watching him each day, watching what he does.
I'll give you a good example of it, both of you,
and then you can use it for whatever you want.
On Tuesday, they're working on a drill or that.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
I love how you're saying Tuesday like to help the
podcast audience was really helpful.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Sometimes you think in a podcast way. So today he
runs a route, he's on the outside, he runs a route.
I can't remember who's covering him. He runs hard, flat inside.
dB jumps him right there. He pivots and goes right
back out running a whip route, whips right back.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Out wide open, catches it.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
They're working down on the goal line, so it was
ended up being a touchdown. Dude, six four two fifteen,
and he's running slot receiver whip routes and winning and
getting separation.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
Who does that?

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Yeah, that dude, he's good. He's good.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
He's I think he's gonna end up being pretty good.
But Jaalen Nole could do that, But Jalen Nole's five
to nine, one hundred and ninety. Jay Higgins is doing
it six four two fifteen. So he's just he's he's
different in a sense, he's even more different.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
I think than Nico. I mean, Nico being six four
or whatever, Nico is.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
Nico's very fluid and runs, but Nico's got that pomer
to him. You know, Higgins has got that smooth like
you don't think he's running that fast, and he's running
away from everybody.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
I think Nico, don't you think Jonathan.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Nico kind of developed his style as he kept playing
because year one I didn't see this kind of stuff.
I guess we had no one to get him the
ball that consistently, right.

Speaker 7 (34:21):
Yeah, I thought he wasn't as polished as a catcher
like I thought. I thought he would do some things
like he would go for a jump ball and catch
it down low, and I think he I don't know.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Year three, he just I don't.

Speaker 7 (34:32):
Know who he trained with, but he just really turned
into a complete wide receiver. And then he runs like
a gazelle.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
His strides are just crazy.

Speaker 7 (34:38):
So I remember, I just never forget Derek Singley telling
me the one thing about Nico is, you know, he
has the ability to move like a small receiver. Like
a lot of big receivers are very stiff at the
top of their routes, but Nico is very, very fluid
and that that's what makes him great.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Jonathan. Let's look ahead.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
We still got the Panthers throughout the Lions and a
lot of work to do before September seventh against the Rams. However,
Los Angeles Rams have an issue at quarterback, and that
is a thirty eight year old with a bad back.
Do you think that Matt Stafford is going to end
up playing September seventh against the Texans or do you
think it's some version of Stetson Benett Jimmy Garoppolo.

Speaker 7 (35:19):
That's a good question. I've been wondering that. I mean,
he came out to Price recently. I'm sure they're going
to play it extra safe with him, make sure he
doesn't get hit so he can be available week one
because they're going up against the good Texans defense and
they're gonna want everybody on hand for that game.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
So I think he'll play.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Okay, I want to ask you this because Shador Sanders
looked pretty good in the preseason opener and ends up
having it. I'm not gonna call it a confrontation, but
a little player reporter conversation with Tony Grossi, who's basically
the John McClain of the Cleveland Browns, if I'm labeling
that correctly, right. Have you ever had that kind of
interaction with a player hey write something better about me

(35:59):
or that, even if it's playful, because they did have
a laugh.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
At the end of it. I thought a lot was
made of it.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
And Ian Rappaport made a great point that this kind
of thing happens probably more than you think. You just
don't see it on videos, so you're not seeing these
interactions your thoughts.

Speaker 7 (36:12):
I think it happened a lot more back in the
day when players were really reading articles. I think players
players today more so see social media in the comments
people make. But you know, those interactions are ideally what
you want as a journalist. You want to know what
people are thinking, whether they have a problem with what
you wrote, whether it's fair, because the primary my primary

(36:34):
goal is to make sure I'm fair even if I
criticize you, And you want people to have that type
of relationship with you, that they can talk to you,
that they do see you as a human. So you know,
I applied, you know, Shador feel like he could talk
to that reporter in that moment. But yeah, I haven't
had a ton of those moments because I just don't
think players really pay for a subscription to read as

(36:57):
much as they used to.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Right, that's a good point, that would be, Hey, what
do you say about me on your podcast?

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Yeah? Exactly sure.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
And then everybody here is at that point, Hey did
you hear that somebody went on the Kelsey podcast?

Speaker 2 (37:11):
Somebody won?

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Yeah, somebody somebody went on there.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah, Ts Yeah, Ts went on there, started spouting off
about new albums.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Well, there was a social media influencer a practice today,
I believe.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Oh, yes, she was there.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Yeah, she was, definitely.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
She was definitely.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Significant other Jonathan Caroline, Panthers coming here for joint practice,
beer tomorrow, practice on Thursday, play the game on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
Obviously you're from Carolina. Just your thoughts about seeing the
Panthers coming in here, just a different colored jersey for
these guys to hit a little bit. But your thoughts
about the Panthers and kind of what they're kind of
what their outlook might be with Bryson's third year.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
Yeah, I think they're a team on the rise. I
don't know if they'll make the playoffs this year, but
you know, you certainly saw some improvements last year from
the previous year. Dave Canalis is obviously a good coach,
knows offense really well. Bryce Young went from really bottom
tier quarterback to you know, looking really good, looking really
special at times last year, so I continue, I'd expect

(38:08):
to continue to see that jump. I think it was
a lot of confidence with Bryce Young early in the year.
Now you're starting to see him confident and playing crazy
out of his mind.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (38:17):
So I think the Panthers are going to have a
good team. They're probably going to surprise some people this year.
I think they're probably gonna be around five hundred.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Probably.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Boy Canalis deserves a lot for the Mayfield resurrections, right right.
I know Liam Khne gets a lot of credit there,
but I'm hoping it was all Canalis because I don't
want to see Liam doing anything.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
With Trevor Lawrence. Yeah, now with Blondie.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Jonathan is like, you guys are so bitter, especially me.
He doesn't feel this way about you, but he feels
this way about me. He's so petty and better. Yes,
I am out of the play by playboys, Jonathan. What
do you have going on on the chronicle for us?

Speaker 3 (38:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (38:49):
I got story this weekend or Thursday on cave Stover
and then this weekend on How twenty twenty three, the
draft class coach everything kind of change everything for most
things for the Houston Texans.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Oh yeah, awesome, Thank you very much, thanks for having me.
There's our visit with Jonathan Alexander. Always a pleasure to
catch up with the Texans beat writer for the Houston Chronicle.
Don't go to chron dot com, go to Houston Chronicle
dot com, says Jonathan. I'm just doing his promo work
for him. Also, British Brooks doing work on the practice field.
Johnny Harris has a visit with him that's coming up,

(39:24):
among other things. Next here on Texans All Access. Final
Lap around the Track tonight with British Brooks. John Harris
catches up with the running back after practice and then
we'll review afterwards.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
All right, Training Camp twenty twenty five with one of
the hotter ones today, my man.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
British Brooks.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Okay, British, I gotta ask you this straight out, how
good does it feel to hit another human being like
you did against Minnesota?

Speaker 3 (39:46):
And real good?

Speaker 6 (39:47):
Just blessed to be back out here with the team,
you know, just have another opportunity to just keep getting
better every day, you know, and God just keep putting
me in positions to show who.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
I am and what he's doing me.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
So I'm watching you from the far corner and we
have on TV, and you know they teach you in
TV like don't respond at the play by play guy,
And as soon as you hit that, man, I thought,
I just.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Blurted out, Oh, I was like, it was such a
great hit. When did you know? Oh, I got this
dude to my sights.

Speaker 6 (40:12):
As soon as I came off the block, I look
and I just kind of fixed my face mask and
I seen him and age like if he cuts in
and I just know it's me and I just seen.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Him cut in, So I just shot my shot.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
How does that charge up special teams or just any
any offense defense, special teams When you make a hit
like that. You did that last year in the games
you were running through guys, you made blocks that got
people excited. What does that do for the sideline and
for the different units when you make a hit like that,
and I always just pumped them up.

Speaker 6 (40:41):
Man gives the whole team jews. I mean, special teams
got special players. So like we just we do what
we're supposed to do and you know, make plays and
make him look special. So I mean making a play
like that is not only like exciting for me, but
just exciting for the team to coach, the coaches, the players,
and all the way down to the trainers, and.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
The TV got upstairs too, they get excited about that. Okay,
I've been saying this for a while. You did get
the face Minnesota, but it's only a game. Now, you
bring a different color jersey in here on your turf
to Carolina Panthers. What's that gonna be like British to
just see a different colored jersey to be able to
practice against instead of seeing your same guys day after day.

Speaker 6 (41:17):
Uh, you know, we're gonna wrap our style, the Houston
tex style. You know, Coach Demico harps on it every
day and all our coaches do the same. So we're
gonna keep our head. Now, we're gonna work regardless of
who who comes in here, could be the elementary school
down the street. I mean, we're gonna, we're gonna work.
So you know, we're gonna get to it. We're gonna
get out there and we're gonna.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
You guys take a lot of pride in that and
this being your turf. I would imagine that's more probably
more important to you guys maybe than anything. Nobody's gonna
come in here and try and punk you guys. You
guys are gonna get up on top no matter what.
Is that kind of the way you guys don't look.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
At this of course. I mean, like I said, repping
our style, like that's our style. Were taking it where
we go. We going down the street to CBS. We
taking that style with it. So you know, being at
home it shouldn't make a difference, but we should have
a lot more pride.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
In tailback, fullback, special Teams' is a lot you can do.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
Run the ball hard.

Speaker 4 (42:05):
Tell me about this running back room that's got a
lot of different guys in and give me a little
bit on yakup to throw him in that big old
running back room that you got.

Speaker 6 (42:12):
Uh, it's a lot of different personalities, but at the
same time we all mixed together, which is which is crazy.
Like we got super Joe Nick Damien, got two superstars
in the room, all pros and the the most down
to earth people. You know, Dar is one person that
I looked up to highly respect him. You know, anything
I got going on. I asked him talk to him

(42:33):
about it. Uh, doll o the same way. Uh, I
mean JJ, They're just the same way. You know, one
of the older people in the in the in the group.
So and then you got my boys Award.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
We we we we.

Speaker 6 (42:44):
On the stream together, like if you see him, you
probably gonna see if you see me, probably gonna see
himwhell and then Woody's the same way. You know we
uh the man and playing the myth right there? What
is the same way, Like we all mix and max
max together. So it's like, no, no one's sticking out,
no one's like bad at it.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
Toude. We all great people in that room. Okay, So
no longer a rookie. That's Woody's job. So what are
the snacks that Woody has to.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Bring into the room to make sure he doesn't get
any kind of rookie business going his way?

Speaker 6 (43:14):
You know, we gave you know, I did my time
in the running back room and then I did it
a little bit of time and tied end room. Yeah,
they we gave your ward a little little run for
his money.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
Yeah. But what he's been good.

Speaker 6 (43:27):
You know, he's asking for a requests, he's he's getting
the snacks in there. And I'm not a big I'm
not a big gall on chocolate, but I've been eating
a lot of nutty buddies, so I told him those
those were legit. So other than that, he brought some
nutral greens, which you know, people weren't too surprised, me
too too happy with, but you know, we sat down
and ate him and we're grateful for him that he's
doing stuff like that. So okay, the only person happy

(43:49):
with the nutri green is gonna be lied and you
know that loudly happy with that. Nutty bodies that's a
big in the Harris household. Everybody eats some salads to
good ude, British.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
I appreciate your time. Best of luck this week, Matt,
thank You're appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
There's John Harris on the practice field with British Brooks
and John I'm gonna go full Bryant Gumble on HBO
Real Sports after they've rolled the story and he has
the reporter in house of them. So tell me, John,
what was it like visiting with British Brooks? How do
you see him fitting into this group? This is a
big week, big couple of weeks here for guys like
British Brooks. I mean, it's time to start talking about

(44:23):
that because the last house on the left is Detroit
a week from Saturday. It's approaching. These guys got to
show out to show that they belong here. I'm not
saying British doesn't. But look, we talked about it with Jonathan.
The running backs, there are a lot of them on
this roster.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:38):
Absolutely, you realize we are a week from tomorrow we're
flying to Detroit, Wow, for joint practice on third. I
mean that's crazy, yeah, crazy, how fast this is gone?
But either way, Yeah, British, British one of those guys
that because he can play tailback, because if you can
play full back, probably you can line up at the
wyan line tight end just because you'll he'll go fist

(45:01):
the cuffs with somebody and be physical and special teams
by that hit.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
I was asking about that.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
Hit and he said, as soon as The best thing
you said in interview was when he got off the block,
he saw it coming. He said, if this guy turns back,
I'm gonna nail him. He said he fixed his face mask. No,
he just was ready to hammer him. I thought it
was great but he's everything you want in a Texan

(45:26):
that you know that's not gonna get twenty carries a game,
that's not gonna catch eight passes a game or make
twenty tackles. I did find it funny afterwards when when
he makes that hit and D said, I thought that
was a linebacker because he had a forty number on
and then he looked up and saw his British Brooks
and so British.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
After the interview, he's like.

Speaker 4 (45:48):
Yeah, man, they were sitting on the broadcast, I was
a linebacker and I said no, no, no, I said,
Indy thought you were a linebacker because of number forty
four and how hard you hit him.

Speaker 3 (45:56):
That got back to him.

Speaker 4 (45:57):
Yeah, I said, Indy's a former NFL defensive he knows
what a good linebacker looks like. And he thought that
because of the number forty's. Oh okay, I get it,
I get it.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
This is a big week.

Speaker 4 (46:07):
British Brooks, John Metchi, Braxton Barrios, these guys have shown
some good showed some good things against the Minnesota Vikings
in that preseason game. But now you got the joint
practice on Thursday, you got the game on Saturday against
the Panthers. Those are big, big moments for guys like them,
Rush Yeast, Russ Yeast is one of those guys that

(46:29):
you know, they brought in Jalen Mills and by the way,
Jalen Mills had a great practice, knocked the ball away,
I mean, he was.

Speaker 3 (46:34):
All over the point, had a moment at least that's right.
And Russe has had a really good camp.

Speaker 4 (46:39):
But Russ is the kind of guy you you're like, Okay,
hopefully you get CJ. Gardner Johnson back. You don't know
when Jalen Reid is gonna come back. You hope it's soon,
but but you don't know because Jalen got hurt in
Houston before he went to the Green Bronx. That's a
good step, but with it with both those injuries, and
Russ has put great things on tape and can he

(47:01):
continue that over this next week. If he does, that
makes it really hard at that position, in a lot
of other positions.

Speaker 3 (47:06):
But British is right now.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
Mix it's a breadth of fresh air at safety. Desn
Hills and Yeast making plays because CJ. Gardner Johnson's got
to get back. We'll find out more as the week continues.
Another practice tomorrow. We'll be back on there tomorrow night
at six with an assistant coach and also Casey Osai,
who's making a good impression in this camp. His brother

(47:27):
plays for the Bengals. We'll talk about it all tomorrow.
That's it for the show. Area forty five coming out next.
Have a great night, Go Texans.
