Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's over in India as the Houston Texans have defeated
the Colts twenty to sixteen, holding the Colts to sixteen points. Significant.
It's the ninth game the Texans have held their opponent
to fewer than twenty points. That's the most in the
NFL this season. And they'll be the top scoring defense
in the league once again tomorrow when the stats come out,
because the Rams gave up thirty one in a loss

(00:23):
to Carolina on the road today. So top yardage defense,
top scoring defense, and an offense led by c. J.
Stroud who threw for two hundred and seventy six yards
twenty two to thirty five. He did throw a pick,
but the Texans got the win by four at Indy
dre What's the pass rush Report?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Your EGb sack report the Texans had one sack in
today's game is by Sheldon Rankins. As part of Sacks
for Hunger, ACHB will donate one thousand dollars to the
Houston Food Bank every time the Texans sacked the quarterback.
The AGB Sack Attacks brought to you by EGb, the
official tailgate headquarters of the Houston Texans.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Drake coming into the game talked about slowing down or
stopping Jonathan Taylor. He had eighty five yards in this
one on twenty one carries, so they had eighty six
rushing yards total because Jones had one carry for one
that was on a botched play. So what'd you think
of that ground game defense? They did the job today?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, I think if you to told told us that
you'd give Jonathan Taylor twenty one carries, you'll hold him
to eighty five yards, no touchdowns, and about four yards
of carry, you would take that and run with it
right away. And that's exactly what the Texans did. They
held Jones, who threw two touchdown passes no interceptions. It's
kind of been his status quo right around two hundred

(01:38):
yards or so. But you would take that and get
out of here and feel like you got a pretty
good chance to win the game coming in if you
could hold Jonathan Taylor under one hundred yards rush.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Meanwhile, the Texans ran it for over one hundred one
oh eight total. That was nice to see. Stroud had
one carry, so it wasn't like he factored into this
thing at all. Nico Collins seven yards Toole was able
to rush it four times for three yards in that
tush push. But when you get sixty four yards out
of what he marks on nineteen carries nine for thirty

(02:09):
four for Nick Chubb. It wasn't high volume in the
average per carry three point four to three point eight, respectively,
but the Texans stuck with it. Dre They stuck with
that ground game and then got two steventy six in
the air.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well, what it does is it allows you to kind
of keep the force the Colts to play honest defensively,
because they can't just pin their ears back and come
after CJ. But he did enough in the passing game.
They did enough running the football to stay balanced throughout
this and kind of inflict their will at times when

(02:42):
they really needed to. I thought Higgins played and came
up big with some receptions. So did the Dalton Schultz
as well as Nico, and timely, timely plays that needed
to be made, they made them.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, Nico had five catches form ninety eight yards, goes
over four thousand in his career, fifth Texan to do that.
Higgins five for sixty five, Shultz seven for a fifty five.
Hutchinson had two catches on five targets. They were looking
for Hutchinson a lot early on third downs, dre the
Texans six for thirteen. That's getting it done pretty well
against a tough defense on the road, and the Colts

(03:17):
held to three for ten. So again, team win. You'd
call it that, right.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, you would, because you know, I think all the
areas complemented the other when the defense got stops, the
offense when I had and took care of business and
so on and so forth. So I think this is
what you would call a team win on the road
against the Colts. Colts are in trouble. I mean, they've
lost three of the last four. They've got the Jags
coming up, the Seahawks, forty nine Ers, Jags, and then

(03:44):
the Texans again to round out the schedule for the year.
That is as tough a finish as I think you
could get. Yeah, with the Seahawks and the forty nine
Ers thrown in there, I don't know that they get
to the finish line. And the Texans just need to
keep doing exactly what they've done and let things just
kinda play themselves out.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
To back up your point, the Colts have the hardest
remaining strength of schedule in the AFC, only the Packers
have a harder strength of schedule remaining in the NFL,
and the Texans have the Chiefs coming up next week,
so we'll find out what happens with the Colts. You
still need the Jags to get a loss at least
one down the stretch and maybe to Indy. We'll see

(04:22):
a lot of ways to sort this thing out with
five games remaining in the regular season. But the Houston
Texans now on a bit of a role, maybe more
than a bit of a role when you talk about
winning seven of nine and four in a row. They
got it going on into Arrowhead next week. We'll talk
about that and also how is Demico Ryans overall against
the AFC South in his career. We'll run that one

(04:45):
by you after this. This is Texans Radio.
