Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello Texans, Happy holidays. Welcome to the Tamico Ryans Program.
If you're out and about, coming home from work, going
to work, getting holiday shopping done, we are your destination
to talk about your Houston Texans. Ten victories and counting
ten wins for the third consecutive year and ten plus
this year. Please, with two regular season games remaining, Houston

(00:23):
on a seven game winning streak, and all day long,
you've heard about how the Raider game was not a
piece of art exactly, it's not going to Canton, as
a former Texans coach might have said. But the Texans
got the dub and that's what matters in the crunch.
They were good. They got the win. It's seven in
a row. It's tied for second all time as far

(00:43):
as Texans winning streaks go. And that was a seven
game winning streak in twenty ten. The longest is twenty nineteen.
That was also an ozer to three start for the Texans.
They started oh to three this year, three and five.
You know the story if you're listening to this show.
So they got the win over the Raider and the
Chargers are coming up Saturday at three point thirty. This
is another monster game for your Texans as the Chargers

(01:07):
are on a roll themselves four consecutive victories while the
Jags have won six in a row since they lost
to the Texans. They are unbeaten and they lead the
Texans by a game. In the AFC South, the Monday
nighter has the Colts playing the forty nine Ers. This
is significant as well. We will get into some of
that as the week progresses here, but let's get into

(01:29):
it with the head coach, Tamiko Ryans in studio. Coach,
Great to see a happy holidays. How's it going.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Happy Holidays? Great to see you guys as well.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Seven wins in a row, and we'll talk about the
Charger game coming up. This is a huge game coming
up on Saturday. But congratulations getting the win of the Raiders.
And I know a lot of people talk about how
it went down, what happened? You guys have found ways
to finish these games, to play well in the crunch.
What's the key to that, coach?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, the key to it is you go in each
week is a new week, like you go in with
that mindset. You have to do whatever it takes that
particular week to get the win and that's all that matters.
I know some of the talk about the wins, and
it seems like some people may think just because your
record is better, you go in with a ten point
that doesn't happen. Like all the games starting the same.

(02:17):
You got to go out and earn your right to
win the game. And that's what I'm most proud of
our guys for whatever it takes. However, it looks like
our guys have found ways to win games and to
be on this you know, seven game win streak right now.
There's just a credit to them for staying in the course,
believing in each other, and doing the things necessary that
we need to do to finish games.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Coach, one of the things I said to Mark, and
I said it right as we were starting the fourth quarter.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
It feels like in this run of games where.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
The fourth quarter, you guys are really kind of stepped up,
specially offensively, fourth quarter has been that time where things
maybe start to click a little bit more. CJ was
hot the other day against the Raiders in the fourth quarter.
I feels like the fourth quarter it's really kind of
been a comfort zone for you.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Where do you think that steps from.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Where do you think that really is coming from for
particularly the offense.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
I feel like guys understand, like you need to be
a great fourth quarter team, Like if you want to
win in this league.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
We talk about it all the time.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Most of the games in our league come down to
one possession games. There aren't many just blowouts that happen.
So you have to be on it. You have to
be really dialed in in that fourth quarter. And that's
where our guys have been. And I'm happy that was
that way, Like you're much rather be dialed in in
the fourth quarter, right finding a way things not really

(03:36):
going well early on, you find a way to correct it,
and you find a way to close the game out.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
That's all that matters. And that's where we are.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
What did you see from CJ along those lines in
the second half thirteen to fifteen after halftime, really heating up,
Like Johnny said, I.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Thought he made better throws.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
I thought he made really good decisions stepping up in
the pocket, really finding the guys who were open.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
That was it.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
I mean some throws are off. Admittedly from CJ, he
know he knews that the first half wasn't his best
and he knew that he wanted to come out and
prove and show that, and he's capable of making the throws,
making the right decisions to help the team win the game.
So proud of him for having a ugly start to it,

(04:18):
but finish it, finishing it in a very beautiful fashion.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Coach, What does it say for guys in the fourth thing?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
It was the fourth quarter, CAD's got that third down catch,
Higgins makes the big third down catch.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Yeah, Nico got his targets.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
And made some big plays, but it was guys that
really up to that point hadn't had a lot of targets,
hadn't had any catches I think at that point, but
they came up with big third down catches.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
How big were those two that Cad and Jayden had?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, that's huge for us. Right, Look, it's team offense.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I know everybody wants to Nico had the ball twenty times,
but other defenses know that too. You're gonna take away
the best players, so we have to we understand, like
Nico's gonna get double, he's gonna get clouded. You better
do that, right because he's such an exposive player, He's
such a great player. Now we just have to do
a better job of making sure like we're going through

(05:11):
our progressions the proper way and we're hitting whoever is open,
because that's that's how we're gonna win games. We have
to continue to do whatever it takes right and for me,
it's whoever is open, let's hit them, and let's go.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
We believe in whoever is open.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Those guys are gonna make plays for as you saw
Christian Kirk yesterday on a couple of his you know,
short passes, he was able to convert k was able
to convert Higgins like, so we have other guys besides
Nico that can make plays for us, which is a
really good thing.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
And we're excited about all those guys.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
And you and I talk a lot about third downs
seven for fifteen yesterday on third down for your offense,
I mean that's do you have a certain goal in
mind when you're going to I mean, I know he
wanted to be one hundred percent to get that, but
you have a goal in mind of what you want
the offense to be third down wise as you go into.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
It's not going to a game.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I always want to beat the other beat the other team,
like in the third down. So I feel like defensively.
You guys, if we do a good job of stopping
them and our offense is able to convert more third downs,
that means we're sustaining drives. Our offense is staying on
the field longer than they are, and that eventually will
lead to us scoring more points.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I know you want to run for two hundred yards
a game, coach, but weren't able to do that yesterday. However,
you got some good runs Jawar in the second game
the encore performance found some cracks of daylight and Nick
had that big thirty yard run at a big time.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Jawar did it again his second time playing. I thought
he did find those cracks in the run game. He's
very slippery. He has a really good knack for you know,
bouncing off defenders.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
He did that again, you know this week. And then
you throw in Chubb.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Chubb has the explosive run that really broke it open
for us there in the fourth quarter. So it you know, yeah,
you want to run for two hundred yards. Doesn't happen much,
but that's always a goal.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
You're trying to do that.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
You just we have to continue to stay with the run, right,
continue to challenge everyone up front everybody involved, receivers, tight ends,
o lineman. Just continue to finish blocks as best we can.
Right if we finished blocks, feel like we have really
good runners who can make some explosive runs there. Will
just continue to stay with it, continue to call it,
and we'll do a much better job I feel this

(07:20):
week and running the ball.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Coach Markin knows how I love numerology and symmetry. You
have four guys in the secondary, all with four interceptions each.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
It's now one guy dominated, It's.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
All four guys back there, all four of them with interceptions.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
We're in the game of three.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Then sting comes up with his a the fact that
four different guys have four interceptions, what do you think
that says about the secondary? Then b Sting's interception then
be able to take at the house. How much that
can get kickstart to get the game going.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
And having four guys that doesn't that definitely doesn't happen much.
So I'm proud of just all those young guys who
are able to make plays. Pea, Tree, Bullock, Kamari and
Stingley Like teams are looking to have like four guys
who can go and take the ball away like those
guys do.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
So all guys.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Impact players for a young players that have really bright
future or bright future in this league. And I'm excited
that we have all those guys and we have them for.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
A long time.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
And Stingly the pick he makes is just such a
wild play. It's third and short. You know everybody's anticipating run.
Stingley does a really great job of playing the coverage
and also just having a knack and a feel for Hey,
when is the right time to go and jump arounte
and make a play.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
You have to do that.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
You have to be confident in your ability to make
that play, and you have to know kind of know
what's coming, know where you're needed. Stingly did that such
a great play by him jumping it, being able to
take the ball, not just take it. I always said,
we're always trying to go score man, and for him
to take it to the house and to see just
a sea of reds just turn and try to find

(08:59):
a blow up. It's a really cool clip there, and
I'm excited for staying his first I had to ask him,
I was like, have you ever had one before? It's
like his first pick six since high school, So that's impressive.
Play happy, He was there. We needed it, We needed
those points. Baby's so happy he got it for us.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Coach, You've handled a lot of really good running backs
this year, Ashton gent. He had a nice day for them.
You had some stops, but he had some big plays
as well. What made him so tough to stop.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
The guy he keeps his feet moving.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Like some bags they you know, you get him in there,
you wrap him up, or you hit them and they
all kind of slow down. This kid actually speeds his
feet up, speed his feet up. He jumps out of
tackles a lot, and.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
We were there a lot. We just we didn't wrap up.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
And that was the thing that you know, we knew
going into the week, and we knew we needed to
wrap the kid up, tackle, secure the tackles, but we
we didn't do a great job there and he got
some explosives on us. Even when it breaks out, you know,
our safe We got to be able to get the
go down and not allow them to go in for
a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
And so some improvement to be had there.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
We got another challenge this week Hampton, another good physical
young back who's tough. He's gonna run the exact same way.
So we got to make sure that we'll get our
We'll see if we got it correct it. They're gonna
check us. They're gonna run the ball a lot. So
we're gonna have our opportunities to show that we fixed
our tackling, and.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
We have to do it.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
And the coaching is different this time of year. Right
week three, I would imagine you'd be in pads and
you'd be telling the guys, let's simulate some of this stuff.
But short week and this late in the season, it's
a little bit different in the instruction part of it.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yeah, it is like we're trying to keep guys healthy.
You're trying to keep guys fresh at this part of
the year. So we can't go out and physically put
on the pass and go through tackling drills. That's not
the case. Like we just got to play with a
better technique. Even when we're in shorts and helmets. We
gotta just finish rapping guys out, putting our bodies in
the right position. That's the main thing when it comes

(10:56):
to tackling. It's put your body in the right position,
makes you you have a great angle to the football.
And then I always say it's that desire that want
to like, how bad do you want to get the
guy down? If you want it bad enough, you'll get
it down. So we'll get that corrected.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
You aren't bad enough to use your arms, hands, everything
to bring him down. Coach, With Mario and Tim out
at defensive tackle, I think there's just been questions about
what was going to happen in that position. When you
back looked at the film, how did you think the
interior guys played on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah, we thought Rankins and Tommy did a really good
job in there. And we're still we're moving guys around.
We got Autry in there a little bit. We're I'm
trying to find some guys. We knew it was going
to be a huge void, like losing Tim, losing Rio.
They played such great ball for us, and we had
a really good rotation, so we got to do a
better job of plane and the interior.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
We got to play stouter right.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Some of those runs that got out, we're on the
ground right, we're getting creating too much movement, So we
got to just knock back the offensive line better right
to make the back check his feet, and that allows
our second level guys to make those plays with no disease.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Can you talk about what he brings to the table
that sometimes the fans don't see They see the playmaking,
but they might not see all the communication that takes
place or whatever else he adds to the equation.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Yeah, disease is being the play call of the green
dot guy right on his helmet. He's handled the communication
all year. So when you do lose a guy like Azz,
Henry moves over to the Mike linebacker spot, he hasn't
handled the communication. Not Henry's done it before, but it's like,
we're you most comfortable, and of course Asese having done

(12:38):
it a lot, he's more comfortable in that spot. He's
done it for longer and he's done a really good
job of it. So we missed having him out there.
Hopefully we can get him back this week. But you know,
you don't miss sometimes when plays are happening fast and
you have to talk to other guys, like he's that
coach on the field that has to get things correct

(12:59):
and when we can't get a call in quick enough
for they're going to hurry up.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
He gets that call in. He kind of knows what
we're thinking, where we want to go with the call.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
So it's uh and he's also just a motivator out
there on the field as well. He has to do
his job and he has to communicate, talk to the
other guys, get them pumped up, amped up throughout the
throughout the series. If things go bad, he has to
get it fixed. So it's a lot that's on your
plate as a Mike linebacker. The disease is an extension
of us as the play caller, and he's done an

(13:28):
outstanding the job of it all year coach.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
The moment happened to a college playoff game, but malcoi
Tony Wide Rehiver from Miami.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
It was caught a pass. It's like third down, he's
gonna make a first down. He fumbled. He went over
the sidelines and he was just distraught.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
It's like seven half minutes, like he's distraught, and Mark Fletcher,
the running back, goes over there and he starts.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Talking to him like hey, young blood, we got up,
like stay in the game.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
And I thought about that from a Texas perspective, when
mistakes happen like that, do you like to see players
go talk to you know, other players, or do you
like for your assistant or even you to kind of
step in to say hey, we're good or do you
like for your players to do those things?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah, I think it always means more when the players
are able to go and talk to each other, right,
it just means more coaches or we're always talking, we're
always correcting, we're always you know, coaching guys up. That's
our job, that's what we do. And sometimes it goes
in one ear and goes.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Out the other.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
But I think when it's truly your other teammate is
coming over to talk to you and they look you
in the eyes and you know like, okay, man, I
got to pick it up. I gotta let that or
I gotta let that mistake go and I got to
move on to the next play. Definitely means a lot.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
The correcting part of it during the game. It's the
assistants that have to reach out to the players on
the sideline try to straighten something out before they get
back out there. How does all that work, coach?

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah? Well is it going through plays?

Speaker 3 (14:48):
You know, we'll see mistakes that happen and we communicate
on the headset. For myself, it's telling hey, this happened,
makes sure we're getting make sure we're getting it fixed.
This coverage wasn't right, Like, make sure you're talking to
the corner, safety, linebacker. Make sure they're on the same page. Sometimes,
if I see it quick enough and the guy's walking off,
I was just hit him right when he walks off

(15:08):
the field.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Hey, remember we have to do X.

Speaker 6 (15:11):
Y Z.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
You know, we have to be on this communication or
on this leverage or this puts your eyes in the
right place. So try to correct it as quickly as
possible so we can move on and we don't have
those issues again.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
When you mentioned Henry wearing a green die, I thought
back to last year when he had to wear a
green die for the Miami game when Disease was out
of those games. And it's a one way communication. Obviously,
you're you're talking to him. He can't you know, he
might hands signal or do something back to you, but
but you're talking to him. But now Matt's doing that
talking to Disease and the other day talking to Henry.

(15:42):
So who do you talk to? Well, who are you
talking to yourself? Or you talking who are you talking to?
Is that's going on? Because I always get the impression
that you like that communication, you'd like to kind of
keep talking as it's going, even though if you're not
talking to Henry you're talking to someone.

Speaker 5 (15:58):
Who are you talking to at that moment?

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah, I during that moment, I'm talking to Mad, talking
to ka Lee and telling them Hey, remind CJ of this,
remind Henry to tell this guy this, and talking a lot.
And then when I did call it, I'm wow the
play man down to the fifteen second mark, Hey, expect
this route or this run. Like, I'm trying to give

(16:20):
them a heads up on what I see from the formation.
If I can talk to them, I want to give
them the answer to the test if I see a
play and I know it, like, I want them to
be a step ahead and be able to make a play.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Before we talk about the Chargers specifically, what about going
back to a building where you've played before this year,
but now it's a different team and they kind of
have similar colors, but it's a different team, Coach, does
it help at all that you've been in that building
before this year or is that irrelevant?

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I hope it helps me have some familiarity with being there,
you know whatever, standing in the same hotel, being in
the same so guys know it's nothing new as we
go into that building, just a different team. But our
guys will be ready to go right. Our last time
being in that building it didn't go great for us,
and we have a lot, a lot to prove in
that building, to go show that we can go win

(17:08):
a game on the West Coast its.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
Third year in a row. That will be in that situation. Baltimore,
Kansas City, I mean those playoff games and in LA.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Yeah, but that was the same team.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
They have a different team.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
You know, same stadium, same city. It's all kind of
the same, I guess Los Angeles. Speaking of the Chargers,
it's a long time ago. How much coach, can you
look back at last year's playoff game and gather anything
from that versus what the Chargers are doing now with
Justin and with the offense in particular, Is there are
the things you can kind of carry over from that

(17:42):
playoff game until now it's just too much water on
the bridge.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I always try to take a fresh look of where
are they now. I think each season has its own,
you know a little it's at its own story of
who they become throughout the season, Like what changes if
they made. And so as I watch the guys watching
them this year in particular, you see like there's a
they have to shuffle their offensive line around a lot,

(18:06):
so they're trying to figure it out. They're trying to
now seems like after the Bilee week they're trying to
really lean in or running the ball more, getting into
the jumbo packages, running the ball more. Justin is making
really good decisions with the football. He has that athletic
ability to escape the pocket, doesn't you know, Like when
you hear about Justin Herbert, you don't hear a lot
of people talk about that, but man, he's His ability

(18:28):
to escape the A and B gaps very similar to
Mahomes in that way. And also they have the zone
red element that when it's crunch time he needs to
make it play, he'll pull the ball and make plays
for you. So really talented quarterback. One of the toughest
guys I've seen, you know, in the pocket.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
I've shown clips of.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Him throughout the season to our team just of some
of the decisions he made, how tough he is in
the pocket. So he's an impressive young player who's doing
a really good job. They're doing a good job of
playing well around him. They're managing the game very well.
They're keeping it to third and manageable. They're eating clog,
they're first in time of possession. They play good on defense,

(19:07):
eliminade explosives. So I think it's very mirror image to
both teams, Like we try to do the same thing
like run the ball, get in the Zumbo package, run
the ball, be fishing on third down.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
So it's going to be a true battle. Yep.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
This week, I think that Clocket may run a little fast.
This week is maybe a short game, but it's I'm
excited about this though. Man, this is you get an
opportunity here right for this is playoff football in my mind,
like you going against a playoff team. We need this
win to get into the playoffs. So everything is on

(19:42):
the line for us. Excited for the challenge for our guys,
see how we come out.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Of play What about the nuances of the short week
and a distraction called Christmas which is an important day,
but it's in the middle of the football week. Coach,
So how do you handle things for this short week?

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yeah, for this short week again, we everything up a
day and so Christmas will actually be like our Friday,
which is a shorter day, so we'll give guys and
we'll come in a little later, so give those who
have kids. Everybody wants that time to be able to
spend with your kids in the morning on Christmas, so
we'll have that and we'll get out, you know, early
enough where families can go and eat dinner together as well.

(20:21):
So it falls under it's really cool that we had
a short week this week because you can enjoy your
Christmas on our typical short day Friday, which will be
Thursday this week.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
It works out well for us.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Oh, very well put together.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Yes, yeah, very nice coach.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
I know you haven't got too far into the chargers,
but I asked you about the offense. But I wonder,
from your standpoint, because of your connection to defense here
and just defense in general, do you watch certain defenses
as you're studying them and go, oh, man, I really
I like watching these guys, these guys I really like
I know, man, I hate that we got to face them,
but boy, I really like watching these guys. And I

(21:00):
don't know the charges or defense like that, but you
have moments like that where you're watching whether it's players
or whether it's scheme or whether other defenses are doing
do you kind of got to go, yeah, man, I really.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Like these guys, say y'all look at that.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Yeah man.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
It goes both ways for me, offenses and defense. I'm
always on watching, like I can always admire teams that
do it the right way. Teams who play sound coverage.
Guys are exactly where they're supposed to be. They know
how to fit the run a proper way. Seeing some
guys mix it up on second and long getting something

(21:32):
to some of their third down packages, it's like, oh man,
they're doing a really nice job.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Seeing some guys blitzing.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
A lot of like, oh man, I can't put the
guys in that position there, but it's really cool to see.
Just admiring just football, just my love for football. Seeing
you know, offense as well as I'm watching. I'm watching
all kinds of different offenses and the schemes.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
It's like, oh man, that's a.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Cool play idea, Like can we find a way to
implen at this. I think this will work especially versus
this defense.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
So I do.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I have a lot of a lot of guys I
admirus for me watching the Raiders last week, like really
watching him.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Play the run.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
I knew it was gonna be a challenge for us
because they were attacking aggressive downhill.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
So a lot of respect for those guys.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
And I'm always watching to see, Okay, maybe this guy
may pop up as a free agent.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
This player may have to keep a note for him.
I like the way he plays.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I may have to try to get him to be
a textan. Later on, I said to.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Mark after the game was over, I had I mean,
I've always respected Max Crosby, but after watching him play
the run the way that he does, knowing full well
that those edge rushers are getting paid a lot of
times for the sacks and the structure and a lot,
but watching him play the run, I walked out of
that building with the utmost respect for how he played
the game. And that's what made me think about it.

(22:51):
Because we don't see them but every couple of years.
But just watching how hard he plays and watching him
play the run, I was like, Man, that and we've
got guys like that here. Just watching him have that
respect for the way he plays.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
It sticks out. Man.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
When guys play with relentless efforts, those are my type
of guys that I like because everybody doesn't play that way.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
A lot of guys, especially.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Edge players, they're just looking for the passing downs and
that's when they want to kind of turn it on
when it's time to go get your sacks and get
to get the numbers up. But for me, I like
the guys who who like to get grimy, like in
the run game, you're playing physical, you're closing. Like to
see Max on the play he made to go chase
Chubb now, like.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Unbelievable effort by him. Like, really respect him.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Respect the way he plays the game, no matter how
the game looks, no matter their record. He plays the
game with a relentless motor.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
And he's not going to be a free agent.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
So there's okay.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
The coach the Abergy Bank ask coach, question of the week.
Kids will be opening presents this week, coach, So from
your youth, bring back a toy, a toy that you
loved that you think kids would like today, not exist
today anymore, or maybe it does. You tell us what
stands out to you.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Oh man, what doesn't exist today? Rock them socking robot. Yes,
that was a classic class. That's a great one.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
It does. I think they make a knockoff. You know
what I mean, I don't know if it's the original manufacturer,
but I've seen it somewhere and I thought that is
a great thing.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
It was always a good one.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
And then Nintendo with the little when you got the
little track and field a little.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Track that was fun too, So it was very good
class and you can you can never go wrong.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
You got yourself some wheels, so to get a nice
bike popular, that's very popular. They got the electric bikes
now so they don't have to do much.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
I will not allow my kid to have one. Get
the exercise. Coach likes a lot of good luck this week,
you guys enjoy it plenty more coming up with your
head coach Demiko Ryans, including Demico in the locker room
to the team after the game that speech, we've got
it and it's good. There's some motivational stuff at the
end of it that you're gonna want to hear no
matter what you're doing. And Demiko with Johnny after the game.
Also after the game, e J. Speed cut up with

(25:06):
Sean and Clint, so you're gonna hear that, among some
other things. Kaemy Fairband with the three field goals. We
talked about him. You're gonna hear from him, and then
some here on Texans Radio. Right back into the fray
here the Demico Ryan Show. Let's go right into the
locker room. After the game against the Raiders, Texans victory
twenty three to twenty one. Here's the coach to his team.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
You're like William and I grat the lasers on the win.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Man, They all hard to come by.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
We knew. I knew what that was gonna be like
all week, all right. I knew it was gonna be
a challenge. That's a really good football team. I get
those guys credited a good football team. They can they battle.
But the way you guys finished, like, that's what it's
all about. Man, No matter what it took, everybody stepped
up and fit is the right way. All right? Are
we talking about during the week, you know, talking about Man,
we need to pop it off early, start fans. We

(25:57):
haven't had a turnover in the first oh yeah right here,
y yeah, by the way, got firsteing.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
That's his first big six, high inside down offense.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Spend the way you guys, I know it didn't go
the way we like it, right, but it's all about
you finish.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
Man to five minute drives in the in the fourth
quarter to close the game out.

Speaker 5 (26:24):
Nico.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Outstanding job right.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Now, cz House stands all like you was well, now
one more game ball all right, this guy he eclipsed
one thousand points, all right, worst in Texas history.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
I had to do it.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Emmy, where you are?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Man a right, hits three of them, right, fifty five,
fifty and forty nine. Again the winness head time. Tommy
brink o'lin couldn't do it, ye, man, outstanding winning about
everybody in here. He took everybody.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Great job of everybody.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
All right.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
We got a short week, you know.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
We go to LA.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Game on Saturday, all right, so we'll be out tomorrow,
but Tuesday will be our Wednesday, and then we start
the weekend. We're off and rolling. Man, everything you want,
everything you play this game for, the reason why you
suit up.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Everything is in front of us.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Keep attacking it the right way, taking care every single day,
operating the best you can operate every single day. That's all.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
It's on your mind.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Dominate that day, Dominate your job one day at a time,
all right, and we'll be who we gotta be, all right,
special special team, man, I keep saying this special team.

Speaker 8 (27:34):
We can win any.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Given way no matter where we play. When we play
like we got the.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Guys that go get it done no matter what, no
matter how we look. All right, keep our eyes in front.
Let's keep hunting Bank one time.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Man.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
I especially love the end of that locker room speech. Hey,
we are presented by amerg Bank, the official business bank
of the Houston Texans, and the guys in the post
game show Sean Pendergast and Clint Sterner, we're doing a
business like it interview with e J. Speed. I just
have to work in the word business there, but here
it is e J. Speed after the victory of the
Raiders in studio with the guys.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
How's it feel?

Speaker 5 (28:08):
How was the locker room afterwards?

Speaker 8 (28:09):
I feel good?

Speaker 9 (28:10):
The morale is up. Great team win by the guys.
Nico Collins, Oh my god, amazing.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 9 (28:17):
That's things that we talk about throughout the week. So
getting it done is everything?

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yeah, Hey, EJ?

Speaker 1 (28:22):
What what about a game like today?

Speaker 10 (28:24):
Is one of them that to me from the outside
looking in, seems like one of those games you can
learn a lot from, take a lot from, wasn't I mean?
I'll refer to it as an ugly win. But you
you look at how you guys had to do it.
You had to kick some long field goals. You mentioned
Nico's play, you end up offense putting your knee in
the turf to finish the game.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
That the pick six early, which which set it off.

Speaker 10 (28:46):
So just it's a game that it seems like you
can learn a lot from film wise.

Speaker 8 (28:52):
No, no win in this league is gonna be easy.

Speaker 9 (28:54):
I mean, were playing the best of the best, so
you just never know who gonna come out and have
a great game. So like just playing down and just
understanding the game plan and everything that you go in
to do to be the team at the end of
the day. When when you look at that scoreboard at
the end of the fourth quarter and you up, I mean,
it's not a job just well done, because it is
a lot of stuff that we left out there we
could do better in.

Speaker 8 (29:13):
But it is a it's a win.

Speaker 9 (29:15):
A win in this league it's hard to come by,
so just to get it done, you know what I mean,
just go in look at the film and corrected and
you know, just get better.

Speaker 8 (29:23):
That's all it is.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
A week to week get better.

Speaker 7 (29:26):
Ashton gent had had a big game for them. I
guess you give us your perspective on him. Obviously a
really good rookie who's you know, been a tough season
overall for the Raiders, But boy, he was tough today.

Speaker 9 (29:37):
Yeah, I can see why he was so high coming in,
you know, as a drive pick and stuff like that.

Speaker 8 (29:43):
He did a great job today. I can say he
came to.

Speaker 9 (29:45):
Play a lot of stuff that that we game planned on.
I mean, he just made his plays when his plays
was called upon. And you know, when a player doing that,
you just got to give him the respect that he deserves.
And you know, I give him that.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
DJ.

Speaker 10 (29:58):
Take us behind the curtain a little bit, man with
the we just heard from Demico rans and and uh,
I mean I would say he's pretty hard on the defense.
But but that's I mean, that's I imagine you embraced that.
But but he mentioned today, uh, specifically communication in his
postgame pressure being a linebacker, that that you're part of
all of that communication. Take us behind the scenes a

(30:18):
little bit of what what today where today?

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Did the communication struggle a little bit? How do you
fix that?

Speaker 5 (30:24):
What does that piece look like? Us?

Speaker 8 (30:26):
From day one?

Speaker 9 (30:26):
Meek been talking communication so quite honestly, I don't. I
don't think Meek was downplaying communication in that press conference.

Speaker 8 (30:33):
I have to watch it, but I.

Speaker 9 (30:34):
Mean he we have great games where we shut guys out,
and he was talking about communication when coming to I mean,
since I got here, that's been the biggest thing to
he harp on. So if the communication wasn't great today,
it's just something that we just gonna go in and
work on the next day, you know what I mean.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
It's just another thing.

Speaker 9 (30:49):
So on the field, I mean on the field, I
feel like the communication was there or whatever like that.
We gave up some plays in which you know we
won't back. But yeah, it's just something we just got
to get better at day by day, not even just communication,
just everything in general.

Speaker 8 (31:04):
If we're gonna go and win that Super Bowl, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Absolutely? Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 7 (31:07):
EJ Speed Texans linebacker joining us here on Texans Radio.
You signed here as a free agent. How do you
feel like you fit in? How's it going with you?
How have you enjoyed playing in this defense so far?

Speaker 8 (31:17):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (31:18):
I Mean I said in free agency I wanted to
come and play alongside Dmika Ryans just because I knew
the linebacker who he is.

Speaker 8 (31:24):
If you look at his.

Speaker 9 (31:24):
History, he had fred As He's fifty seven Green Law,
Green Law, Grey, Greenlaw. So yeah, man, he'd had some
great linebackers and a lot of linebackers talk highly of
them and respect them, and the same thing as me.
When I came in, I was just all ears. You know,
they was already a great defense. I've said this before
in many interviews. They was already a great defense. And

(31:45):
I just wanted to come in and, you know, just
put my stamp on things and just see, you know,
how can I help? What can I be special teams defense?
You know, if I need to spell Henry or come
in and do whatever I need to be be the
third linebacker. I just came in and I just wanted
to just open my heart and just learn. And that
was the biggest thing for me this year is just
to learn from the mic and just get on track
and just do my thing.

Speaker 10 (32:05):
How does the game change for you when it's these
is not in it?

Speaker 5 (32:11):
I mean we obviously see it.

Speaker 10 (32:12):
I mean I mean we from our perspective, I mean,
but like for you, how does that change things operationally?

Speaker 9 (32:18):
I Mean it's kind of aseas is all Mike linebacker
and our communicator, our leader, you know what I mean.
He wears a captain pat for a reason. I mean
he gets everything set up, and that's from OTA's to
camp to everything. Ause he's always been harping on you know,
he's great with his communication and everything like that. So
when you miss a piece like disease, of course, that's
like you know, the head of operations in here, if
they go down, you know, somebody got to step up
and do that. You know, it might not be the

(32:39):
same as disease, or it might not be as good,
or it might be you know, a day where we
can you know what I mean, they simplify calls or
whatever they need to do to get us going. So uh,
just missing disease in that situation, I mean, that's that's
never something that you want, you know what I mean.
So uh, with zero out there, everything is is smooth
and it's and is good and everything like that. Just
like when Henry's out and he's doing his thing. They

(33:01):
just communicating in two different ways.

Speaker 7 (33:02):
Is anything drastically different in the building compared to the
you guys start owing three and now you're on this
long winning streak, have you guys been pretty much at
that same level the whole time here inside the building.
What was it like being at Owen three? And did
you ever envision being ten and five after starting?

Speaker 9 (33:15):
Oh yeah, I mean go look at I mean you
can go look at press conferences and stuff that our
head coach had when we was owing three. He was
saying like, you know, calm down, it's not you know
what I mean. He was preaching the same thing to us.
It's just that we held us in and now and
now I think that we're going on to have one
of the best records or whatever like that. I think
Will just told me that. He was like, you know,
we're going on to have one of the best records
we had since I've been here. So I mean, of course,

(33:36):
like the beginning of the season's the beginning of the season,
you know what I mean. We lost those games, and
you know, we wish we could have those back, but
at the end of the day, we just kept moving
on week the week, week the week and doing we
know best and just putt our best foot forward.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Texans linebacker EJ.

Speaker 7 (33:49):
Speed joining us here on Texans post came before we
get you out of here. How is it being on
the same side as CJ now, especially on days late today,
remix those plays at the end like that.

Speaker 9 (33:57):
Man, CJ, don't let me make it bro always joking.
Like he told me today he said, you see the playoffs,
but like you know.

Speaker 8 (34:03):
Me ANDJ I always be talking trash like.

Speaker 9 (34:06):
But it's good because now, I mean, I've been knowing
CJ before I came, and I knew what type of
competitor he was, what type of person he was just
from you know, just hanging out in the off season
and stuff like that with the same agent and everything.
So just being on the same side of CJ. Bro
CJ as a competitor. Yeah, CJ want to win, you
know what I mean. And he even said it this week.
He's like, Bro, we gotta do the things we need

(34:26):
necessary to go win the Super Bowl. So like when
your quarterback talking like that, that gives you all the
inspiration in the world, and you know, you just go
ahead and just go do your thing.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
What are the plans for Christmas? Oh?

Speaker 9 (34:35):
Man, I got the family in right now. Artell about
Christmas early because you know we going to California.

Speaker 8 (34:40):
Yeah, about so many presents and stuff.

Speaker 9 (34:41):
I'm because you know, I've been in Indie for six years,
so it's like I never really had the whole family
there for Christmas. And I went to Charge to stay
out of college. So you know, that was my first
time away from Texas when I was in six years
in Indies. So now that I'm back home in Texas,
I invited the whole family out. We about to go
have Christmas right now.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Actually, oh, it's.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Beautiful, the whole Okay, good, and you get to do
it after a win. That's big.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
That's big.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
There's EJ. Speed on Texans post game with Sean Pendergast
and Clint Sterner following the victory over the Raiders. Coming up,
Pete Carroll, Raiders head coach and a veteran coach, Super
Bowl winner, what he had to say about the Texans defense.
You want to hear that, and you want to hear
from the head coach after the game with Johnny and
Kaimi Fairbairn in the locker room. It's all coming up
here on Texans Radio as we get back into it

(35:27):
here on the Tamiko Ryan Show presented by Amage Bank,
the official business bank of the Houston Texans. Pete Carroll
after the game now Carol of course, longtime coach of
the Seattle Seahawks. He had Jeno Smith there and he
really resurrected Gino's career or got it going in the
first place. Really, and Gino even last year helped the
Seahawks win ten games. This year is not going so well.

(35:47):
But Gino made some throws yesterday and kept the Raiders
in it. They actually had the lead in the second half,
as you know, by a point, but the Texans took
the lead again and got a nine point lead that
felt to two, but they killed the clock at the
end of the game with that clutch throw from c. J.
Stroud to Nico Collins on third and eight. Anyway, the
head coach of the Raiders, what do you have to

(36:08):
say about the Texans defense, in particular after the game
during the q and A with the media.

Speaker 6 (36:14):
This is the best defense in the NFL, and they've
been doing it week in and week out and been
on a roll.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
He wanted about that Texans defense based on the best
of the league as it just said.

Speaker 6 (36:22):
Yeah, you know, nobody asked me that. You know, I'm
glad you asked because I see something in what Mimko's doing.
Done with these guys in acquiring recruiting, however, it is
to get guys that really can play the game.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
This is a really.

Speaker 6 (36:38):
Loaded defense, not size weight, speed wise, they are in
terms of their playmaking ability. The linebackers we didn't see
their top guy today, but the linebackers and the safeties
and the corners they don't all have They're not the biggest,
they're not the fastest. They're just terrific football players. And
they've they've found the scheme that comes the San Francisco background.

(36:58):
They recognize that calls for the ends to play like
they play and they've just played right and recruited kind
of and drafted to the strengths of the style that
they want to play with. I think it's a really
important thing to notice for DA he's you know, and
how they've ever put it together figured out because it's
really to me, it's very impressive, and so we hold

(37:19):
him in the highest of regard, and so to play
against him, well was I think it's a great statement
for us. But they're on track and U and Strout
played you know, well enough to win the game, made
enough plays today and see, you know, Chub get out
there and run the ball a little bit. One of
my favorites. It was. It was a heck of football game.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
There's Pete Carroll after the game. I thought that might
be interesting for us to hear the outside perspective of
the Houston Texans. Now, let's go for some inside perspective.
In the locker room. Emy Fairbairn three for three yesterday.
He was hitting some bombs helping the Texans win the
game against the Raiders. Got a game ball. As you
heard earlier in the postgame locker room speech. Here's Johnny

(37:58):
Harris with Emy Fair.

Speaker 6 (38:00):
Now.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
I know if Mark.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
Vanderbeer were here, he would actually say the full name,
but I'm just gonna say name. I love saying Kaymie
fair baron good all day long.

Speaker 5 (38:09):
First or one thousand points.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
I'll start there first, texting history over a thousand points.

Speaker 5 (38:13):
What does that mean to you? Kaymie means that I'm old,
I guess no.

Speaker 11 (38:17):
It's a lot of hard work, a lot of days
just focusing on my craft, and a lot of people
that have poured their support and love into what I do.
You know, Frankman, Tommy, I gotta shout out my guy Weets,
everybody who's helped me get to that.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
That that total so very grateful. How big was this
game for you today? For this team? Those field goals
at that time, every time ball fence balked.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Down you came in, I would say saved them, But
you put the three up on the board and salvage
that drive.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
How big was that to come up with the three
you had?

Speaker 11 (38:50):
Yeah, it's my mindset is whatever whatever they put me
on the field, that's my job to put it through
the uprights. So wherever it is, whenever it is, don't matter.
I'm glad I got it done for the team today.

Speaker 4 (39:02):
One of the things that you and I have talked
about a lot of these new kickoffs, you hit that
kind of dirty kickoff that was bigs that bend them
back into the twenty.

Speaker 5 (39:10):
I know you you hit it clean so often. How
tough is it to kick.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
A ball like that?

Speaker 5 (39:14):
But then how useful was it for that you go
all the way the insie. Yeah, it's a little trick shot.

Speaker 11 (39:19):
You have to build up confidence for it and get it,
get a good amount of work in the week and
sometimes it clicks and it rotates how you want it
to and keep it low. But you know, I try
to hit it, hit it well when I can and
give our uh, give our guys a good opportunity.

Speaker 8 (39:34):
To get a hit on the ball.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
I know Debiko won't like me asking you this, but
it's seven in a row. You guys have found ways
to win in different ways. What do you think it
says about this team this year the way that you
win in games and have completed seven in a row.

Speaker 11 (39:48):
Yeah, just finishing, that's our That's our main concern. Our
main focus is finishing the game with a dub and
at some point it's gonna be do or die. So
you know that's a mindset we got to have now.
Why not have that mindset now and we can continue.

Speaker 5 (40:04):
That going forward.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Timi, congratulations, man has been unbelievable. Watch your career thus far.

Speaker 5 (40:10):
Hopefully there's a thousands more of my man.

Speaker 8 (40:11):
Congratulations, great win.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Thank you very much, Kayim new Alua mechi iki ki kumu.
John Christian fair Bairn. There he is thirty six letters
in some apostrophes too in his first name, and Johnny
dared me, so I went ahead and said it Johnny
again with the head coach after the game, the Texans
beating the Raiders. This is Johnny and Demico Ryans.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
All right, coach, win is a win, is a win,
no matter how you get it.

Speaker 5 (40:38):
Seven to row.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
I don't know if you know that.

Speaker 5 (40:41):
I don't know if that matters right now.

Speaker 4 (40:42):
But just getting a win today against the Raiders, as
I feel, it feels great.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
It feels outstanding to get the win. I felt that
all week.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
I know it's gonna be a tough.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
One, and I was, man, I was stressed out all
week about this one. You just watched the family and
watch you know how good they played defensively and have
some struggles on the offense. But I knew this was
a good team, way better than their record indicated. So
I'm proud of our guys. We're finding a way to
gut it out and finish it how we finish it.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
I know, offensively, it wasn't where you want to know.
You and I talked at half and another there were
some things you wanted to see, Hey, get down to
the score.

Speaker 5 (41:15):
Didn't really do that till in the fourth quarter. But
in the fourth quarter of the last few.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
Games, your offense has really kind of risen up like
they did today to make some big plays.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Yeah, you want to see a fast start. That was
kind of our that was our goal coming out. We
wanted to start fast on this team, but.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
It didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
But we've been a good fourth quarter team during this
win streak and that's what has allowed us to close
out games. So it's not always tell our guys we
coming at halftime like, hey, forget about the first half.
It doesn't matter, Like how are we finishing. That's own
that's the only thing that matters. And our guys have
carried that on. You know, for however many weeks we've
been rolling here, they've carried that mindset throughout the third

(41:52):
and fourth quarter and how.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
We finished games, and that's what's put us in a
win Callum.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
I know, if you're playing box score here, you look
at Nico Collins numbers and you're like, God, those weren't
great numbers. However, he came up big in the big moments,
the two pass interference calls that he was able to generate,
and then obviously that last catch for the first down.

Speaker 3 (42:10):
The numbers may not say it, but watching the game,
he impacted this game tremendously being able to just come
in and teams are going to try to double Nico
they doubled him, they put an umbrelle over him. That's
gonna happen, but you know you can't force it at time.
But when we do, you know, have an opportunity to
put the ball up. We're gonna bet on Nico, you know,
coming down with the football, got a couple pass interference

(42:32):
and to play at the end man for him to
be able to adjust and find that ball.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
They hit us with a zero pressures.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
DJ puts the ball up and gives him an opportunity
leaving it and bound giving them opportunity to finish like man.
That was an outstanding played by both of those guys.
We've been looking to try to connect on those and
it finally happened at a moment where we really needed
it to start.

Speaker 4 (42:51):
Off the game with it. Derek Stingley picked six. How
big was that defensively? And there's some things you want
to go back and clean up big plays by Jent,
some plays he broke out of there. I know, I'll
ask you about this on Monday. By tackling, I know
wasn't great on genty throughout the day, but getting stings
picked six to start off the day.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
How big was that one to start it off Man.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
That was That was the play of the game for me.
I think it just you know, it's been our offense.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Last week, they started fast, they came out, they get
the touchdown CJ.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
De Nico.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
But this week now and we challenged the guys throughout
the week, Hey, we need a turnover. We haven't had
a turnover in the first quarter all year, so can
we We challenged our guys and it's pretty cool when
you talk about something in a meeting, you challenge guys.
And the way it played out Man spent on third down,
a play that we practiced and tried to work and
for Stingley to have the awareness to come back to

(43:40):
the football and take it away. Man can't say enough
great things about sting Leaving for how he battled throughout
the week.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
Couldn't practice every day, but he pushed through.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
He really wanted to be out there to help his
teammates the day and he helped his team in a
huge way.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
Coach, last one, we have been at such a fever
pitch playing you know, Jaguars, Bills, Colets, Chiefs that were
just high intensity and then you face a couple teams
at home. Were the records weren't great, but they had
enough players to make it really, really dicey. I know
that had to be tough, because human nature says, man,
we have been playing at such a high level intensity wise,

(44:14):
probably human nature that you, I don't know, maybe step
back a little bit, but yet you still got the wins.

Speaker 5 (44:20):
You're still tough ened up when you need to.

Speaker 4 (44:21):
What do you think it says about your team to
be able to get those wins here at home?

Speaker 3 (44:25):
You know, these are the toughest games to prepare for
as a coach. Right, everybody in the world is telling
you how not that you're gonna win, how much you're
gonna win by, how are you gonna dominate? And that
starts to seep into God's minds and you you can't
never think less than of your opponent, right, And this
is a really good Raiders football team. Although their record

(44:45):
doesn't say that they're a good team. They play hard,
they play the game the right way, and I'm really
proud of our guys for you know, weathering through. Like
it's easy to get up for the big games that
everybody calls a big game, but every game is big,
every win is important, and I'm happy for our guys
be able to get the ten right now and with
everything we want still in front of us.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
Coach, congratulations, Hecker win. Let's go to LA and get
another one.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Thank you, thanks, Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (45:09):
And they'll try to do that on Saturday when they
take on the LA Chargers. Still sounds funny to say that.
I'll be saying that all week, and we will find
each other in the broadcast booth every time somebody says
San Diego didn't happen with the Raiders yesterday, we dared
each other. Nobody said Oakland. I'm even tempted to say
Los Angeles sometimes because yeah, I remember when they were

(45:30):
in LA too, So there's that. But now they're the
Las Vegas Raiders and the Texans beat them by two.
I'll take a one point win, a half point win,
any kind of win over the Chargers on Saturday. That
will be a three thirty start time, So you want
to remember that that's a national TV window, and a
couple of weeks ago they confirmed that it would stay there.
It was sort of a TBA placeholder type game. They

(45:52):
weren't very specific about it, but we got word through
the league office that it's probably a Saturday. You never know,
they probably want to hedge their bet. They had about
four or five games that they could flex a number
of different ways. But the Texans indeed a Saturday afternoon
outing against the La Chargers, a team they beat in
the postseason at home last year. Can't wait for it

(46:14):
chance to perhaps clinch a playoff birth. We'll find out more.
The Monday nighter has the forty nine Ers and the Colts.
You know we're gonna be watching that one. This is
the Demico Ryan Show. Thanks so much for listening. Texans

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
