Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome in everybody too, Texans All Access Matchup. But this shit,
I'm your host, John Harris, football analyst, sideline reporter, and
this show we like to look back. We've got a
lot to look back on because it's that time of year.
I did the math when I woke up and I went,
wait a second, Okay, So this is week seventeen, Week eighteen,
(00:20):
all right, I gotta make sure that I'm primed and
ready for the end of the season and hopefully it
goes all the way to the super Bowl. But what
I realized was we never have a matchup show after
the last game of the year. So I realized, I've
got to do my end of year Ultimate elevens on
offense and defense. So this week we're gonna do Ultimate
eleven Offensive Plays of the Year to this point. Now,
(00:44):
there might be more a little bit later, and that
could be the case, but for right now, Ultimate eleven
Plays of the Year offense up through now.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
So we'll have that on the show. Next week.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
We'll do defense, and we'll sneak special teams in there
next week as well, and then hopefully we just keep
playing and if we're doing that, that we're doing Ultimate
elevens of great playoff wins in the history of this franchise.
So with all that's being said, we got Ultimate eleven
Offensive Plays of the Year coming up on a show.
But we got a kickoff this show with the Ultimate
(01:15):
eleven plays of the win over the Las Vegas Raiders,
and it's gonna start right here at number eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
This happened twice during the game.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I think the first one was probably a bigger hit,
and that's British Brooks. And when British goes down on kickoff,
he is looking to knock somebody out.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
That's just his mindset, man, and I love it. The
football violence from that man is unbelievable. Number eleven.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
British Brooks flying down to make this big hit comes
in number eleven in our Ultimate eleven from the win
over the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Here's the kickoff over the five, ten, fifteen to twelve
and it hit hard at the twenty five yard live
British Brooks does it again.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
That's his second one today.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Most got drilled by British Brooks.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
You know when we are sitting there going ooh, and
I do it too, so you don't hear me, but
it's all of us just going ooh, somebody makes a
big hit and British has had a number of them.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
All right, it's get the number ten. It's the sack boys.
Will Anderson Junior going to the Pro Bowl. Danielle Hunter
robbed out of going to the Pro Bowl. Really disappointed
the fact that daniel didn't get the credit that he
is deserved of this great season and of his career.
He should have been going to the Pro Bowl. They
both should be going to the Pro Bowl. They're outstanding.
(02:46):
But teaming up right here and number ten. First, it's
Will Anderson Jr. With his sack on Geno Smith in
the first half.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Smith of the guy, I'm first down in the pocket.
Here comes trouble. He sacked Will Anderson Junior with us
shack Acchedo Smith.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Now, the one thing you can't do if you're a
Raider is take a sack and what would equate to
the two minute drill for your offense. And Geno Smith
does exactly that. Nobody's open. He holds onto the football
rather than getting away with or throwing it away, and
Will Anderson goes right around DJ Glaze for a sec.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
The first one in the ballgame.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Wale moves into fourth place among the Texans franchise sack
leaders twenty nine and a half in his Texans career,
moving ahead of Jadebion Clowney.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
The second part of number ten is Danille Hunter flying
through the air, literally flying through the air. He laid
out to make sure. He tapped off on Gino Smith
to make sure this was a sack. This was unbelievable
effort from Daniel Hunter. Should they both should have had
(04:00):
him in the back thor that couldn't get him down,
And then Gino took off. Gino should throw it away,
but he didn't, and Denial came up with a sack.
The second part at number ten fifty five with a
sack of his fifty fifth different quarterback, second.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
And fourth from the later forty one Smith and the
gut four man rush Smith in trouble. Smith is about
to go down, but he stays up, rolls out to
the right side towards the sideline, and he's gonna run
out of bounds at the thirty three yard line.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
He'll take the sack anyway, boy, Danil Hunter will get
credit for it. But he laid out. I mean, you
talk about turning on the juice to try to get
to Gino Smith. Man was he hauling to get there
behind the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
So that's a sack, and Gino Smith becomes the fifty
fifth different quarterback that daneil Hunter has sacked in his career.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
That's absolutely incredible.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
All Right, It's get to number nine and there's a
discussion that Seth and I had. Seth Payne and I
were talking pregame of the Cardinals game and EJ. Speed
was was not active in that game. He's dealing with
the injury. And I just remember Seth and I we
were talking about it and we're like both curious because
EJ had been so darn good at linebacker for the
(05:15):
Texans this year, but man, are we gonna miss him?
And it felt like in the Arizona game we missed him.
Well head him back for the game against the Raiders
and EJ. Speed was all over the field. He had
this three yard TfL. It comes in at number nine.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
It's third down unless than they are just shy of
the forty five of the Raiders. Geno Smith under center,
and they go into the eye with Mayor lighting up
as the full back. Here's the toss to Cheny running
left till they get to him. They do a TfL.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
E J.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Speed leads away and the battle red clad defenders get
a loss on the third and short for the Raiders
who will punt.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
That's just that's nice. Usually there's room out there somebody.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
If you misstep, you're It throws the timing off and
it allows for Genti to pick up the first down.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Everything was timed perfectly.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
The reaction of the defense was perfect, and the result
was even better.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Okay, let me tell you what you shouldn't do against
his defense. Third one toss play not good. You're gonna
get run down. EJ's one of the fastest linebackers in
the league. We have the fastest linebacker group in the NFL,
I believe, and you're not gonna get a toss play
on third and one to work.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
EJ.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Speed made sure of that. It comes in at number nine.
All right, let's get their number eight. Kaimi Fairbairn three
times to go over one thousand points in his career,
and let me tell you every single one of these
was needed. The first one came from fifty.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Five fifty five yard field goal left hash mark spot.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Here's the kick. By fair bar drops it in.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Fair Bear gives the Texans the lead back ten to
seven from fifty five, nine to twelve to go second quarter.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
His second one came from fifty to give the Texans
a thirteen to seven lead.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Here's fairbaran though fifty yard attempt between the Hashes.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
Brinklin with the snap, Tommy with the hold. The kick
is up that it's good. Fair Barn two for two.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Now they're big ones as Houston has a thirteen to
seven lead.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Fifty seconds to go.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Second quarter went nice, never left the middle of or
between the goal posts, just hit it Nice, was high
and had plenty of distance.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
And then trailing fourteen to thirteen, Texans needed a big one.
Kayimi knocked this one home from forty nine to give
the Texans a sixteen to fourteen lead.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
All three of these are at number eight.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Forty nine yard attempt fair baron left hash, Mark Brinkman
with the snap, Tommy with the spot.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Here's Amy's kick. It has the distance. It's good. He's
got the hat trick and the Texans have.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
The lead sixteen fourteen over the Raiders. Much needed fair
Barn three for three with long field goals forty nine
fifty five and fifty sixteen fourteen Houston three to oh
eight to go third quarter.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
All right's get the lucky number seven set day for
those who speak at spen yol.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Stroud finding Christian Kirk, who's good, get c k going
in the offense and made a couple of key catches.
A big one this comes in at number seven. Big
first down in the first.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Half, third and three from the Houston thirty five bunch
formation left strout of the gun Dari in the backfield.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Here's the snap, CJ. LOOKI Covid deviddle.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
He has Kirk Kirk across the fifty in traffic forty
five and out of the forty.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Three yard line of Thera.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Stokes makes the stop, big play to Christian to get
it into a Raider territory, a twenty one yard pass player.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
This needed to see the football into the hands of
one of these receivers and they are going quickly here
right to the line of scrimmage of the Texans.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
All right, let's get to six.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Now, it's always weird with number six, and he comes
to a little bit of a caveat go back to
Thursday night Seahawks against the Rams. At the end of
the game, Eric Salbert, former Texan, caught a two point
conversion to beat the Rams, the most important catch the
whole night, but because it comes on a two point play,
(09:37):
he doesn't get a stat for it. In fact, Salbert
had no targets, no receptions, yet had the biggest catch
of the game. Well, that kind of applies in a
sense here at number six, because Nico Collins drew a
defensive pass interference on Lonnie Johnson, something I've been calling for, Like, look, Lonnie's.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Back there at safety.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I think we can beat him, and he ends up
making this crucial mistake with a DPI on Nico Collins.
But he had to give twelve a shot and Lonnie
Johnson grabbed Nico's arm, pulled it down. The back judge
near the goal post saw it through the flag. This
would put the ball to two yard line. It was
a massive play. Comes in number.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Six, tenth play of the drive that started at the
Houston twelve. It's thirty eight at the raider twenty five
strout of the gun. Dari in the backfield with him
along with Schultz, split Becks, CJ calls to the ball.
Here's the snap strap throwing left side of the end zone.
Watch Nico and can't find him a little too far
and there's a flag down. Lonnie Johnson, the former Texan,
(10:40):
interfered with Nico Collins d P turns on a defense
number thirty two after start.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
And that's why you take shots like that.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
You might get a call like this as Lonnie held
the right arm of Nico and he could not get
near the football.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Let's get the five. Nick Chubb man. It was good
to see Nick Chubb in the fourth quarter. And here's
what I love about having Nick fresh in the fourth quarter.
So defenses are tired, they don't want to hit Nick
Chubb and try and bring him to the ground because
Nick is going to be fighting Clawn, trying to pick
up every yard possible, just going north and south to
the best hit his ability. Well, let me go back
(11:20):
to that man, Lonnie Johnson. Lonnie had a chance to
make this a three or four yard gain, but Lonnie,
doing what Lonnie has done, tackled with a shoulder and
maybe his helmet and never wrapped up. Nick embarrassed him
and turned this into a huge thirty yard run on
their touchdown drive. This was big from Nick Chubb comes
(11:40):
in at five.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Chubb stays in strout and the gun two receivers left,
second and one at the Houston thirty two. Hutchinson in
motion to the right side. Now back to the left,
that box is loaded. Cejys hands off the Chubb running
right now, straight ahead across the thirty five forty breaks
of tackle forty five with the open field fifty right
side racked outside the forty yard line, Nick Schubb off
(12:02):
to the races. Crosby tracked him down, but not until
Chubb got the ball in Raider territory at the thirty
eight big run.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Texas would end up scoring a touchdown a little bit later.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
We'll get to that play in a little bit, but
we got to get to number four. This comes on
the final drive and last week against the Cardinals, Jayane
Higgins had a catch and I remember thinking, golly man,
I really want to get Jaydanon Higgins going again, because
he's the type of weapon that we can use down
the field catch and run situations, you know, screen situations.
(12:34):
We have used them on much, but there's a lot
Jaydon Higgins can do for this offense. But didn't have
a lot of targets in that Cardinals game, and up
till this point, I don't know that he had a
target in the game against the Raiders. But play number
four is Jayden and Higgins coming up big, and his
quarterback CJ. Stroud, who'd been hot in the fourth quarter,
dialed in on a big, big third down.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Stroud to Higgins.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Hopefully we hear this connection a lot over the next
decade right here in Houston, but it came up big
when the Texans needed it. At number four, CJ finds
Haig for a big first down.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Third and five from the Houston thirty three. Stroud of
the gun one packs, CJ looks it over. Stroud call
to the ball. Here's the snap, Stroud stepping up, Stroud
throwing over the middle, and he's got Higgins for the
first down down at midfields. Jaden Higgins one a time
to make us first catch in the game.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Texans did not did not, did not want to punt
that ball back to the Raiders and let Genty have
an opportunity to do something big like he had been doing.
So that was a big first down to keep it going. Okay,
let's get to number three, first and goal from the one.
When have you heard those words this year, and I
know a lot of us. When we see first and
(13:53):
goal from the one, you start thinking, oh, man, can
we get this thing in? I mean, we gotta get
this thing in. We need it right now. We need
a touchdown so badly. The only touchdown we had to
that point was Derek Stingley Junior his pick six. That
was it. We gotta get a touchdown. So we wind
a couple of plays. Nico gets the pass interference, that
ball gets placed at the two. Then Raiders jumped off side,
(14:17):
ball moves.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
To the one. First in goal from the one.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Texans come out traditional two tight ends may have been.
I may have three Titans in the field. I can't
remember exactly, but I do remember that Dalton Schultz was
lined up on the left side. They had British Brooks
at full back and Nick Chubb at tailback. And the
Raiders said, you're not running this thing in, but a
little subterfuge as the Texans actually weren't running it in.
(14:43):
They were throwing a little play acts and pass. And
I have my eyes exactly on Dalton Schultz. I saw
him immediately run to the back of the end zone.
Not one white shirt saw him or went with him.
It was an easy pitch and catch from CJ. Stroud
to Dalton Schultz, who has been fantastic, who is now
the single season leader in Texans history with receptions. One
(15:10):
of those came right here comes in at number three,
Dalton Schultz from CJ.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Stroud on big tunny. They needed at this point in
the game.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
So first and goal at the one, Texans re huddle
seven four to go, fourth quarter, sixteen to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Houston leads.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Here.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
We are again one yard line spot and the Texans
with a chance to put some serious distance between them
and the Raiders backs and eye Shavin Stover. First and
goal at the one, Stroud digs in CJ to throw
left side of the end zone. God touchdown. Dalton Schultz.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Hadn't shown that look, and I think it fooled everybody
on the Raiders defense.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
Usually it's just.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Power when you come out of the eye and there they.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Release Dalton Schultz.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
The linebackers are playing run all the way and take
a false step or two up. It allowed Shultz to
get behind coverage and made for an easy.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
Throw by c J. Stroud.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
All right, it's get to number two. Derek Stingley Junior.
Now it gets the Cardinals. A Texan started off seventeen
to nothing, went down, score a touchdown, hit, there's a
big Nico catch and run for the touchdown. Then a
big hit by Scoob Jamal Hill dark covers the full moo,
get a field goal, get the ball back, score make
(16:42):
it seventeen to nothing. Okay, good start. Can we start
that way again? And the Texans did. Pro Bowler soon
to be All Pro continues on this trend. He'll be
a Hall of Famer one day. And that's my man.
Derek Stingley Junior. Third and one. The Raiders got tricky.
They didn't try and hammer it, which they probably should
have and didn't, and they decided to throw out the
(17:04):
flat and Derek Stingley Junior made Geno Smith pay number two.
Stings pick six.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Third down and list of the art across the Raider
thirty offset I formation, Smith digging in short, roll to
the right, throws and intercept that Stingley across by twenty
five twenty fifteen ten five brook and roll pick six
touchdown Houston.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Geno Smith was late trying to get the ball to genty.
It gave Stingley a chance to reposition himself and take
advantage of Smith being late with the throw, steps right
in front of him and makes one heck of a
catch and then Houstead maybe to put the Texans up
(17:54):
six nothing.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
How about that? That was wheat by Stinglee.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
The ball is going to the inside, he reaches for it,
gets it, takes it to the house.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
So many things I love about that play. First of all,
the physical play Mark just described. He reached behind him
and made a catch that I'm telling you only the
only Sting is a defensive back mix. I mean, he's
the only defensive back in the NFL. It makes that catch.
Oh you can miss me with certain and Quinya Mitchell
and all these other guy No, Sting's the only corner
(18:27):
in the league that makes that catch. It was a
great read, great anticipation. It was excellent. Then the run
to the house was fantastic. The one other thing that
I loved was, well, there are two things. Another one
is his first pick six since high school, which was
very cool. The other one, and you guys know I
love numerology and math. We had three guys going into
(18:49):
the game with four picks. Jalen Patriot four Kamari at
four and Kaylen Bullock had four sting.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
At three, large part because nobody throws at him.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
But that was number four that I gave the Texans
four secondary players with four interceptions each. Those four guys
Stingley will go to the Pro Bowl. Kamari Lassiter and
Kaylen Bullock are full first alternates for the Pro Bowl,
and Jalen Petries a second. Now, my guess is if
you ask those guys, yes, they want to go to
(19:19):
the Pro Bowl, there's no question, but they want to
go to the Super Bowl. But once guys at those
positions go on to the Super Bowl from the AFC teams,
then those three would step into those roles. But I
guarantee you all all four of them want to go
to Santa Clara for a Super Bowl, not the Pro Bowl.
But congratulations to all of them being either alternates or
(19:41):
staying getting named to the starting lineup of the Pro Bowl. Okay,
let's get to number one, and it's one of those
plays I've been fortunate down on the sidelines that I
placed myself. I try to place myself at a spot
where I could see some good stuff, and I remember
going to Cincinnati in twenty fifteen, Monday Night Football. I
(20:04):
happen to be standing in the right exact spot where
I could see DeAndre Hopkins make one of the greatest
catches I've ever seen in a big time situation on
a throw from TJ Yates. I mean, I had such
a great look at it this one. I was kind
of in the same spot. Texans third down, They're up two.
Ashton Genty had just taken one to the house with
(20:25):
some bad tackling, and I just can see a situation
coming up on fourth down where the Texans have to
side between a pooch punt, going for it or Kayimi
from fifty five.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Again, none of those options sounded.
Speaker 6 (20:40):
Good to me.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
So how about picking it up on third down? And
it's just after a two minute warning, so you'd like
the clock. They're on two, So do you want to
run it? Well, you haven't been able to run it
all day? What about throwing it? You got Blitz zero
and you got Nico Mann a man, but there was
a safety to help, and that safety didn't get there
when it was beaten.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Stroud throws an absolute dime against Blitz zero pressure, drops
it in the bucket, and I can see this thing
coming right at me. This thing happens about probably seven
feet away from me, and I see Nico make the
catch and I immediately looked as he has something. Now,
I could see his shoulder hit and I know the
elbow hit first, but I saw the shoulder hitt and
(21:24):
bounds and the immediately yell at Mark, it's a catch.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
It's a catch.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
It's a catch because I knew he had it and
it was big, closing the game down.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
With number one. In our ultimate eleven. This week, CJ
to Nico yet again.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Split backs for CJA thirty eight at the Raider thirty seven.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Here's the snap. Here's the blitz straup fires downfield to
its left and.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
God along the sideline Nico Collins the dagger at.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
The thirteen yard line ball game.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Darian Porter once again.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Want a throw and catch.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Nico Collins along the sideline, snares the ball and the
Texans can kill the clock.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
That was it ballgame right there. And I know some
people will sit there and say, well, you know, Nico
wouldn't that great. He only had four catches for fifty
nine yards. Yeah, he drew two huge defensive pis. And
if you tack that yardage on he ends up in
the eighty five ninety range probably and if the Texas
(22:31):
would have needed touch it out at the end, they
probably would have gone Nico again, he would have gone
over one hundred. But you know what, I'll take Nico
four for fifty nine and take that big play of
twenty four yards to end it and be our number
one play in the Ultimate eleven. So that was Sunday.
But how about the season were at that point of
the year. We got to review some things at the
(22:51):
end of the year. So coming up the Ultimate eleven
Offensive Plays of twenty twenty five to this point. Now,
this big game gets Chargers and went against the coltson's
the playoff games. They may add to it, but as
we sit right now, the Ultimate eleven Offensive Plays of
the year coming up on Texans All Access Matchup Edition?
Speaker 2 (23:12):
What does Happened to? Everybody? Welcome back to Texans All
Access Matchup Edition.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I'm your host, John Harris, football analyst, side the reporter
for your Houston Texans. This show we like to look back.
I'm the future, but this one is truly a look back.
Once we get to this point of this season, we
got to do some review. We got to make sure
that we do our year in review Ultimate eleven Offense, Defense,
Special Teams. Today it's the offense. And of course I
(23:40):
know the Texans play on Saturday against the Chargers three
thirty Central time if you're out in LA one thirty,
but we got to get it in because once the
Texans season is over, we can't go back and do
a recap of the whole season because every matchup show
that we'll do will just be recapping the previous playoff
(24:00):
game win. And if the Texas unfortunately lose, well, we
don't want to be recapping that and we don't have
to do that show because we'll be done on that
money long story, we're doing Ultimate eleven Offensive Plays of
the Year, and we're gonna start with the Texans' first
win of the year, and there were two rookies that
stepped up huge and they come in at number eleven.
(24:24):
The Texans were up six nothing going in to the
fourth quarter and it was not looking good like maybe
we get this win, I don't know. I mean, the
Titans get a scoop and score and they're up seven
to six. But then what he marks Jaydan Higgins came
to the rescue a number eleven. The Rookies rise up
(24:45):
against the Titans in Week four. First it was Jayden Higgins.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
At the twenty four yard line of Tennessee Stroud. Of
the gun, Nolan motioned to the left. CEJ looks it over,
Frenny trumped off side. Here's the snap, se J looking
firing deep daftfield right.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Side end songs Higgins with the catch.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Jaden Higgins touchdown, Kuston.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
I'll pull it from Stroud to the rookie.
Speaker 6 (25:15):
And they gotta turn around, go back and get that one.
That's his first one, and he did. Ko actually vicked
it up more him and they gave it to him.
First one for the Iowa State rookie.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Then it was time for Joequavius Woody Marks to put
the kapper on win number one with this rushing touchdown hand.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Off, Woody left side fifteen ten five dives into the
end zone, his second touchdown up the day.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
I will see your two sacks and I'll raise you
two touchdowns. Take that, Vandermer.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Our power players are coming through, both of them. But
I gotta tip my hat to you. Woody Marks with
the day he just made to get himself into the
end zone.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
That was salty.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Damn right, it was. I like salty.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
If it's well on chips and my running backs running
into the end zone, that's why I like salty, all right,
I like it.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Thanks Drey.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Okay, let's get to number ten. Number ten, X marks
the spot. Now everyone knows.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
And we talked about it all week leading up to
the game in Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Never beating Lamar Jackson, never beating the Ravens in Baltimore
had actually only beaten the Ravens a couple of times
that both times the NRG. But in this one against
the Ravens, and I'll be honest, obviously a scaled down
Ravens team doing a lot of injuries, no Lamar that day.
The Texans had to go out and dominate, and they did,
and they did it with two big touchdowns from Xavier
(26:47):
Hutchinson against the Ravens. The first one, ooh, this was
pretty wide open in the flat for his first touchdown
of his career.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Second to goal at the five stroud under center. One
was to the left side. CJ looks it over. Here's
the snap. CJ takes the handoff, throws right side, got.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
A man Xavier Hutchinson touchdown Houston five yard TD opening drive.
The Texans take it in X with the touchdown. Stroud
and his fourth touchdown pass make it his fifth of
the season, and the Texans strike first.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
The second came right before halftime on a back shoulder
right in front of me. Beautiful touchdown throw and catch
from CJ. Stroud to Xavier Hutchinson. It is the second
touchdown of the day. Second part of number ten.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
CJ to X.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Marking a spot in the end zone again.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
X goes to the right side, two receivers left.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
CJ.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Stroud shotgun with winn He marks in the backfield first
and goal at the ten. CJ takes the snap, firing
right side of the end zone. Caught X touchdown Houston
second touchdown of the day and the second of his career.
What an amazing first half for your Houston Texans.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
All right, it's get to number nine and we could
have taken any I mean I could have taken like
a full eleven from what I think is the most
pivotal win for the Texans in twenty twenty five. When
I say pivotal, I mean it's it's one that changes
the season. And I know those wins against Tennessee and
Baltimore were big. They had to get those for the buy. Obviously,
(28:30):
starting zering three not the way you want to do it,
so they had to get those. But after the bye
a trip to Seattle went all kinds of sideways, then
got it corrected against the Niners, and then CJ got
knocked out in the game against Denver. He would be
out for the next three games. As we well know,
Batman Davis Smills had to step up well in the
(28:51):
fourth quarter because of some special teams gaffes turnovers gave
up upon return touchdown on Davis Mills interception I think
on his second throw of the game. The Jags have
built a twenty nine to ten lead, but Davis started
chipping away and eventually he faced a third down down
(29:13):
at this point by eleven, twenty nine to eighteen third
down in this case, who you're looking for the moneyman,
Dalton Schultz. Dalton was massive in this game, massive throughout
the year. This touchdown cut the lead. As the Texans
missed the two, they cut it to five, but they
(29:34):
needed to have it on third down, and Davis went
and found it with Dalton Schultz in the back of
the end zone.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
This said number nine.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Houston huddles trying to punch it on the south end zone.
Three receivers left. Nico now goes to the right. Now
back to the left, Mills of the gun one back.
What he marks? On third and three at the Jacksonville seven,
Mills awaits to snap from Andrews.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
Here it is Davis looking Davis with time. Davis pumps.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Davis throws white side crack of the ends.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Cut touchdown, Dalton Schultz. Rock and roll.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Back to back drives with touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
Mills heating up at the Texans with it a score.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
What a throw? What protection provided by the offensive line
to allow Mills to scan left all the way back
right and still find Dalton Siltz in the back of
the end zone.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
That's a heck of a job by the offensive line
and a nice throw by Mills.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Man I forgot Mark gave that a rock and roll.
That's pretty cool. He doesn't give rock and roll to everything.
Gave Sting a rock and roll the other day. That
was kind of nice because that was things first pick six.
It was cool, and he gave that a rock and roll.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
That was sweet.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
It would not be the most important play of that game,
but pretty darn close. Number nine on the seasons get
the number eight. I wanted to get Jalen Nolan here
because Jalenn's done a great job on part returns kickoff
returns this year. But it was a couple of catches
that stood out to me from Jalen Knowle as we
(31:16):
get to number eight. The first one came against the
San Francisco forty nine ers. Nico Collins had got a
concussion against Seattle, so he was not in the lineup
against the forty nine ers, so everybody had to step
up and make plays, and j Nole did. This was
a huge forty four yard reception that would set up
a score against the Niners.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
It's the first part of number eight.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
CJ under center on second of eight from the Houston
thirty three.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
CJ fakes to get steps out to his right, steps up, now,
airs it out long downfield and clupp by Nol at
the twenty five yard line up San Francisco and ridden
down from there by Mustafa. A huge play to Jalen
Nole del Mark abet that twenty two.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
It's exactly what what the recipe it was, and it
was to bring in a heavy package. You're bringing a
blocking type tight end and he hits. Have the forty
nine ers thinking, oh, we're gonna run the football here.
You show it in play action as if you're going
to do exactly that, and Jalen Knowle takes advantage, gets
(32:19):
behind coverage and CJ just drops a dime right on him.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Forty four yard play.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Now, the second one for number eight is one that
I think gets forgotten in that Jacksonville game. I remember
thinking there were so many times at which just one
Jaguar stop, one sack, one pick, one misconversion on third
down or maybe fourth down, and the house of cards
is falling and you're done. The Texans forced a fourth
(32:49):
down against the Jaguars and ran a play that got
Jalen no Al to the flat and Davis was able
to hit him for a huge first down. This kept
the drive going. I think this was on the Dalton
Schultz drive, but it was a massively important connection from
Davis Mills to Jalen Nole's the second part, number eight, Noel.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Out to the short side left as they break the huddle,
Nico to the right with Higgins stacked fourth to two
at the jack seventeen Mills out of their center and
marks of that field. Here's Nolan motion to the right nose,
takes the gift rose right side.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Noe has the first Douns cup to the bounds.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Up the twelve yard live no Hookie does it again,
makes another play for his.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Texans, and a nice job and setting that up. And
Noel has gone in motion, fakes going back, comes back across.
And what it does is every time he fakes and
holds the defensive back that's in man de man coverage
across the formation with him, and it gives him an
opportunity to outleverage the defense, which he did there. And
(33:50):
Davis Mills throw him a nice catchable ball.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
All right, it's get to number seven and a two
catch sequence again. In that Jacksonville game, Texans are down
twenty nine to ten and just started the fourth quarter.
And I've always been a firm believer. I had a
game that I coached many many many years ago, and
I remember we were down a couple scores.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
We had.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
We played hard in the game, played team was much
better than us, but they scored late, and I'm like, man,
we still got a shot because we got We're down
two scores. We're down sixteen, A touch in it two,
touching it too, and we tie the game. I was
always kind of thinking optimistically, we got a drive going
and we threw an interception of our five yard lot.
So it didn't happen, But I remember thinking, hey, I
(34:39):
think in factors of sixteen, can you get sixteen a
touch it to a touch it too. In this case,
we're down nineteen, so a touch in it to a
touching it too. In a field goal, you're tied, but
you got to get the first touch in it two,
and Davis found Jaden Higgins to get the touchdown. Is
the first part from number seven, third down and ten
(35:01):
at the Jaguars twelve. Higgins in motion to the left,
Mills of the gun, marks to his right, Nico Collins
short side right, Davis Mills h waits to snap.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Here it is Mills in the pocket, Mills to the
end zone.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Couck touchdown Chaden Higgins. The TEXIT score.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Did a nice job of getting inside position on Greg
Newsom before the safety Antonio Johnson could get over the
top and help out. And then that ball was knifed
in there from Davis Mills. Well thrown ball and a
nice catch to go along with it.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
So the touchdown is on the board twenty at sixteen.
Now you need to two. This is one of the
great catches of the season. Nicocollins reaching out left handed,
snagging a two point conversion. I mean snagging it, and
I remember thinking, I see it again. I said this
(35:58):
earlier in the show. I've been fortunate to see some
of the catches up close. I used to watch Hop
all the time defeating bounds. Then they'd replay it. He'd
stand next to me and we'd watch the board. He's like,
I catch that, bro. I'm like, yeah, you got it.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
You're good. Nico toe tap one hander cuts the lead
to eleven. This was massive. It's the second part of
number seven.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
It's not over.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Texans going for two. Spot the ball to the two
yard line. Mills shotgun. What he marks to his right
now shifts left, Now back to the right. Nico Collins
short side right, going for two. Bunch formation left, Davis
(36:43):
and the gun.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
Here's the snap. Davis looking throwing right.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Side and cart Nico Collins. They get the deuce, eight
point drive for the Texans. Twelve sixteen to go. Fourth quarter.
Don't go anywhere. I gotta admit I love looking back.
I love looking back just remembering these plays from these games.
(37:07):
So let's get to number six.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Christian Kirk, Texans wearing the battle red on Thursday night
taking on the Buffalo Bills. That was not an offensive
bounty against the Buffalo Bills. They didn't do a ton,
but they did enough to put twenty three up on
the board, and a big one came right here. Talked
about this all year from the one two yard line.
(37:31):
Oh man, it's been dicey. But when the Texans run
the play action, they've had success. They had it the
other day with Dalton Schultz and play number six right
here as Davis fines Christian Kirk against the Bills.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Second and goal at the two Texans not huddling, shot
up to the right of Mills, who's in the shotgun set.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
Here's the snap from Andrews. Mills takes the give, throws
white shot.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Cat Touchdownshi Kirk. The Texans score. They tie it up,
they could take the lead with the extra points. Davis
Mel's TD passed to a wide open aggy Christian Kirk.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
I mean, there wasn't a soul around Christian Kirk.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
That was beautiful because they went against type perhaps and
they got it to pay off.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
All right, let's get to number five and it's a
two play different game sequence with Nico Collins. Number one
comes in Indie and the Texans had to go on
the road and beat up at that time a healthy,
relatively healthy Indianapolis Colt squad that had started to found
(38:51):
her a little bit. But the Texans had to put
the nail in the coffin. Nico didn't do this one
through the air. He did this one on the ground.
His first rush touchdown. It's the first part of number five.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
First to goal at the seventh straut of the gun
marks to his left punch formation left. CJ takes the
snap and they hand it to Nico on the end
around running left, Nico to the goal line.
Speaker 6 (39:14):
He's got it.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Nico takes it in for six from the seven and
the Texans have grabbed the lead back from Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
So blocked by Dalton Schultz on Kenny Moore to kick
him out and help Nico get into the end zone.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
Got that big frame going he was not gonna be denied.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Can't get the push in the middle, but it's available
on the edges, and that's where the Texans have scored
both touchdowns outside on the edges.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
That would keep the Texans in the lead against Indianapolis. Now,
I'll be honest when I put this together, you know,
I was putting together the place of the year, got
about Nico's catch against the Raiders. So I'm like, all right,
I gotta put this somewhere, and I realized, Okay, this
is Nico Collins celebration at number five.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
How about the game ender against the Raiders?
Speaker 1 (40:11):
CJ dot and Nico to end this one last week
it was number one for the week against the Raiders.
He comes into the second part of number five right
here at Nico Collins celebration.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Split backs for CJA thirty eight at the Raider thirty seven.
Here's the snap, here's the blitz strapped fires downfield to
its left and.
Speaker 7 (40:31):
God along the sideline, Nico Collins the dagger at the.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
Thirteen yard line ballgame.
Speaker 6 (40:41):
Darian Porter once again, what a throw and catch.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Nico Collins along the sideline, snares the ball and the
Texans can kill the clock.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
All right?
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Moving on to number four, and this is is last week. Well,
I guess technically, now two weeks ago. Second offensive play
of the game, CJ. Stroud throws a dart to Nico Collins.
He turns it up. The longest pass play of the year,
(41:18):
fittingly is from CJ to Nico. He comes in at
number three, second down at eight from the Houston forty
three yard line, strout of the gun. Now with Woody
too is right, here's the snap to CJ. Four man rush.
He throws over the middle hitch Nico.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Left side forty breaks the tackle thirty twenty fifteen to
ten five rock.
Speaker 5 (41:36):
And roll touchdown.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Kosten fireworks early at NRG Stadium as Nico Collins takes
it to the house.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
What a dart from Stroud. Nico makes the catching a
white shirt hanging on him. He shakes him off and
takes it all the way to the house to play
drive right there, fifty nine yards worth Mark, that's quick,
that's efficient, that's a effective and that's exactly how you
wanted to start this game against this team. But now
you have to keep the foot on the throat. Great job,
(42:07):
cije an Eco.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Fifty seven yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
We stay in that same game for number three, Nico
had the longest pass reception of the YEARNET game Jaward
Jordan in his debut game as a Texan.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
He played in the preseason, but he had played in
the regular season.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
He takes this one fifty yards down inside Cardinals territory.
It was a hell of a run and it showed
what Jauar can do. This comes in number three Jaws
get it done for fifty yard run.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
First half of the Houston thirty four CJ tosses the
ball to Jordan, starts right Cott's left forty forty five
open field, fifty the forty left side thirty twenty five
twenty and brought down inside the fifteen yard line.
Speaker 6 (42:55):
Water run.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
Jaward Jordan takes the ball into the red zone and
block by Nico Collins, just staying with it down the
field getting extra yards or helping.
Speaker 6 (43:08):
Jawar get extra yards on that that that running.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
Play with Garrett Williams boy fresh legs Mark Yep finally
able to track them down after Nico was blocking them out.
That's a fifty yard run. Another trip to the td
ECU Redzin.
Speaker 6 (43:23):
I felt like this kid should have been on the
fifty three man from day one. That's just my opinion.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
You and I shod same opinion, Dre that dude's getting
it done. There's no question about it, Okay, two and one.
I was pretty convinced of these two as it sits
right now.
Speaker 7 (43:39):
Now.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
There may be plays in the next few weeks that
maybe supplant these, but they're at least gonna be top
five no matter what, because these two were hugely important
in two massive ballgames.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
They were back to back weeks. But at number two,
third and goal from the fourteen yard line, down by
five against the Jars, Davis Mills takes off.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Running thirty seven seconds to go twenty nine to twenty four,
Texans trailing third and goal at the fourteen. Mills shotgun
marks to his left, two receivers watside right. Here's the
snap Davis looking, Davis stepping to his left, Davis on
the run, ten Davis Fox, Davis to the corner, Davis
touchdown Houston.
Speaker 7 (44:25):
The Texans take the lead on the Mills scramble amazing
Emails gets it done.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
Thirty seconds to go and Houston leads by one.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
And then the following week in Tennessee, tied at thirteen clock,
running down third and sixteen money, Mills found meat go
Collins for a huge first down catch to set up
Matthew Wright's game winner.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
A few players late.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
It's third and sixteen for the Houston forty two marks
in the backfield, mills and a gun.
Speaker 5 (45:08):
Here's to Snap Davis firing downfield and he's.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
Got Nico Collins on the sideline at the forty toe tapper.
Speaker 5 (45:15):
They say catch.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Give me chills just thinking about it right now? All right,
we get back. We got the Chargers. This week made
me think back to one play in that Chargers playoff
game that changed everything last year. We'll review that look
back next Texans All Access Matchup Edition.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Keep it right where you are.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
Welcome back to our final segment of Texans All Access
Matchup Edition, where we'd like to look back with Deny
on the future, the future the Chargers on Saturday the past.
The Texans played the Chargers in a playoff game at
Energy Stadium last year, and there is a pivotal moment
(45:56):
in that game that there's so many of them. Was
great with the interceptions of Justin Herbert, but the offense
really was kind of stuck in neutral in that game.
They trailed six to nothing. There's two twenty four on
the clock. Texans were backed up. They faced a third
and seventeen. They had really kind of done nothing to
(46:19):
that point, but that was about to change, but not
before almost one of the biggest gaffs of the season,
as this snap from Jared Patterson went through the hands
of CJ Stroud.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Then the play the game. Everything changed on the spot.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Third down and sixteen from the Houston seventeen. Here's CJ
and the gun. Three receivers, wife's side, left, one back.
Dara Stroud calls for the ball and the ball goes
through Stroud. He picks it up, scrambles out to the
right side. Can he get rid of it? Airs it
out downfield and cut a thought forty five yard line.
(47:01):
I'm taking a fifty yard line X marks the fun.
An amazing play for the Texans.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
On third and long, Stroud dropped.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
The ball, but he picked it up and found Xavier
Hutchinson for a first out of midfield. As we hit
the two minute warning, thirty three yards. The Texans in business,
down six nothing.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
Then CJ went to work. A couple of plays after that,
he found Nico for thirty seven yards. A couple of
plays later, he found Nico in the end zone. So
from disaster to a lead, the Texans would never look
back and get that win over the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Hoping for more of that on Saturday. We'll see you then, everybody,
and as always, thanks for listening and Go Texans.
