Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:00):
Welcome into a Monday edition of Texans All Access from
the Monday Texans Radio Studio. We have a jam packed show.
We have Andre Johnson, he's a Hall of famer. We
have John McClain, he's also a Hall of famer. We
have Brevin Jordan. All three of them on the show. Now,
Brev's not a Hall of Famer yet, but there's still
(00:21):
some work to do in his players, so we'll give
him time. So to all famers in our favorite Brevin
Jordan on the show with us, John Harris, Mark Vandermer talking.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Texans Day five in pads.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Mark, let's just go with it, gut reaction to what
we saw today.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
I thought it was a bit better for the offense today.
Yes it was not perfect, but there were some plays
made today and that's what you wanted to see.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Now they're in pads.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
A little bit of a step forward for the offensive line,
for the execution of the passing game.
Speaker 6 (00:52):
Again, not perfect at all.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
I'm not saying it was a shining moment for this
offense and they're going to Canton now collectively, but we
wanted to see a step forward and we did that.
Said defense still made plays great, just great to see
them in pads. And this was a Houston Texans training
camp practice. This was every bit of ninety whatever degrees, humidity,
all of it. I'm sure the guys are feeling it
(01:15):
this evening, and they'll be feeling it for a while
because they'll be out there Tuesday, Wednesday, then another day
off Thursday before two more morning sessions and then you
go to the Greenbrier now Friday and Saturday. Get some
clouds in rain. No, they're rooting for that, There's no question.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
They root for rain.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Yes, just anything to block that big ball in the
sky melting you and your spirit. But I thought there
were some good things today on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Is that fair?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I think that's a great way of saying it.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
It felt like it took a little while for the
offense to kind of get out of its own malaise,
if you will.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
I don't know if that's right way of saying it.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Like this defense, and we've been saying it, and I
think everybody knows it, but I think it bears repeating.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
This offense is under construction.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Defense is in year three, like the construction project's never
going to be finished. But it's pretty darn close with
the defense, and you can tell you can you can
just see when that group runs on the field like
they're just there's just a different mentality right now then
it's ever been.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
They fly around.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
I mean, Kaylen Block had two plays that he made
a ball at one pick where he just came out
of nowhere, and it's it's plays that I don't think
we've seen a lot of safeties in the history of
this organization make. And then he had one he dropped
it and it was like, that's what he said this office,
He's like, man, if I'd have caught all the interceptions,
(02:39):
throwing my way into double digits, which is true. So
after practice, where was he.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
A jugs machine junxst machine, Yeah, working out with.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
That gets the ball?
Speaker 5 (02:47):
The jugs machine who tangled with Nico in the end
zone in red zone where he was trying to thread
the needle. So who actually came up with that ball?
The official said nothing.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
The one official nearest me said touchdown.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
But they kept kind of fighting on the ground for
the ball, and I think eventually Kamari ended up with
the ball after it already.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
I think said practice and it's over the journey is over.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
But I love that rep though, because it's such a
competitive reph It's such it's a hard play for Kamara
to have to cover. I mean, look, Kamari's five ten,
five to eleven, one hundred and ninety. Now he's wiring
strong now, but he's not Nico. And Nico literally ran
into the goal line, blocked him out and had the ball.
But Kamaria was actually the fact that Kamari actually made
(03:33):
it competitive was I mean, a big feather in his
cap either way. I think one official near me said touchdown.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Gardner Johnson was not happy about that at all.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
My gosh, there was another play. Yeah, there was a
touchdown to Jayde Higgins. Jade and Higgins j CJ threw
a beautiful ball back in the end zone. They came
out of a bunch kind of kind of switched released
and Jaden ended up going to the corner and and
it looked like they got a little confused with the coverage.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Not too happy with that. Picked that thing.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Yeah, he slipped, he said, man, I don't even know
why it fell down.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
I don't even know why.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
And he was really hot, and I thought, this is
one of the reasons why you have him that high
standard of yeah, this is practice. We don't play till
five weeks from Sunday. But I got to get this right.
I am not giving up a touchdown to a rookie,
and he feels like he should have every ball that fire.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
I liked seeing it.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
I think it's filtering through that defense in some ways,
he's really big. Dial it down, man, but no way,
no way, let him cook.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Let him be that way. That's not a negative at all.
That's a good way to be to get everybody's pumped
up and focused.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
And forced the offense to meet your standard, like, yeah,
this is the standard, guys, you know, step up and
meet this. I felt like that, and I don't know
if there was a specific play that did it, but
it just felt like the offense kinda got rocked early
and then kind of got on balance a little bit,
started protecting a quarterback a little bit better, and started
(05:11):
started dealing a little bit.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
They did seven on seven red zone.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I feel like CJ is very accurate in that I
feel like David's throwing a ball. I said this morning,
I'll say it again today. I think he's stoning a
ball as well as I've seen him. I thought today
he threw extremely well, Johnny. Again, it was very notable.
He's throwing seeds. He's throwing right in front of the guy.
He's not thrown behind guys are on their hip or whatever.
It's right there, just a foot in front of him.
(05:34):
Bill Walsh style, and so accurate in this camp overall.
But that really's taking a gigantic leap from where we
saw him in the OTAs of mini camp. I'll tell
you that one of the best things to come out
of the first few days of practice, in particular today.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
And I hope he never sees the field. You'll understand when.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I say this, Oh, I know who you're gonna say,
rookie quarterback Graham Merch is throwing it.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Now, Johnny the one. Now, you and I weren't together.
I was on the other side of the field. I
was in the shade. By the way, I deserve credit
for being smart, Okay, I like it. You're out there
like baking like a raisin, and I am just and
you know what, I got down on a knee and
you know you don't do it practice.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
You don't sit out.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
But I was being polite because there were fans behind me.
I want to block their view. See that's my excuse
sticking to it with that. But Mertz in that period
and they're going toward the South ad Zona field one
in that period, he you saw what he did. He
kind of did a little heavy like a little like
(06:33):
pump fake kind of thing and stepped and then he
just sort of almost side armed it to Jail and
knowl yeahs and no great catch, great play, nol he
gets open. How to drop? Yeah, I didn't like that,
but had a great play. You know, he makes plays,
(06:55):
There's no question. And he'll be the first to tell
you can't drop the football. We talked about this morning.
He can't have any more of that. Eighty two was
very very active, yep.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
And it was telling like you could see him in
every a lot of the quarterbacks that all four quarterbacks
that threw the ball to him. He was the one
guy they were they were looking for. They were trying
to find eighty two today. For sure, I feel like
Jalen Knowle had a really solid practice. We talked about
Kaylen earlier. It was fantastic. He flew out of nowhere.
One interception, want to knock away? Uh, he was he
(07:28):
was great. D'Angelo Ross made another play on a PBu
that was really excellent. Paul got right to met you look,
I met you gonna have a catch, and then right
the last second DeAngelo popped it out.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
He was really good. He had a pretty good practice.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Though, Yeah, I don't met you had a good practice
that There was that one, but he had another couple
ye seven on seven he got opened, he got one type,
he got wide open.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
They ran a seam.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
They looked like you ran like a four verts concept
against three deep and basically he just split the safety
in a corner and I remember, I think it was Davis.
David just put it on him and he ends on it.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Really really well. X had a good practice.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
As we talk about the defense doing well, as we
mentioned these receivers, you think, okay, all right, there was
some real positive There were some.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Real positives on the offensive side. Defensive side. Darryl Taylor
stood out to me. Thought Darryl had some really good rushes.
Willy Anderson had won Will Anderson. I wrote this in
Harris Hitch. You'll see it. But at one point Will
Anderson was going against arionte Airstrie and I saw it
and I was like, oh, man, you got to see
this and you turn to the board, You're like, what
am I?
Speaker 6 (08:26):
Oh, okay, there it is.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
You like ze what he did, and it was it
was good because Will didn't use power. He had to
use his hands and be death with his hands and
get passed.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
Didn't go one on one with the line d one on.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Ones at all today off no receiver DBS or O line.
But they did red zone seven on seven. They did
red zone seven on seven.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
That was the first time we seen that.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
During that period. They just had the offensive line defensive
line separate. Okay, now the protection today better protection today.
Wasn't perfect, but it was better. And I was that
was a step in the right direction. Now, back in
the day when things used to break down for Matt
Schob for Case Keenum, for Ryan Fitzpatrick, they looked up
(09:11):
one Andre Johnson and well so did we. It was
kind of a surprise to have mom, but we loved
having them on. Here's Andre with Mark and I Andre
good to.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
See how's it going?
Speaker 2 (09:20):
What's up? Man, what's it going on?
Speaker 3 (09:22):
So?
Speaker 5 (09:22):
What about this group? What can you tell us about
this receiver group? And we were just gushing about Nico
Collins and his abilities.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
Yeah, I mean it's an exciting group, a bunch of talent,
you know, just being out here the of the day Saturday,
it was watching the first practice, Well my first practice
is watching just a great group of talent, a bunch
of talented guys, and you know, it's kind of it's
(09:49):
so much talent, it's kind of like, how do you,
you know, maneuver.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Through all of it. So very excited.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
If I had to say one guy, I'm very excited
for Metchi this year to see, like, you know, where
it goes, you know, just with him everything he's been through,
you know, with the health stuff and like now he's
got a couple of years under his belt, so now
to see, like, you know, if he steps into that role,
I really think he can be a big component this season.
(10:20):
So very excited to see what happens to him and
this hit.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
Andre.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
You went through this when Gary Kubiak got here, and
that's changing the offense. That's what these guys are going through.
It's a new offense. Some of it some of them
heard some of it not. But for you, when you
went to a new offense, what was kind of that
like for you? It was kind of the key in
kind of getting that down before you went on a
field to play the games that first year in that
new offense.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
What the thing was you had to Gary challenged me.
He came up to me after the first year. He
was like, man, I need you to learn everything about
his offense. And that's what I did. I learned everything
he because he moved me around so much. And I
think somebody like Nico, so many people tell me, like
(11:01):
they like Dre, he reminds me so much of you.
But a guy like Nico, you can move him around,
put him in different spaces. You can put him in
a like Nico even though he's a big guy. You
can put him in a slot. You can put him outside,
you can motion him out the backfield. You could do
so many things with him, and uh, you know that's
something that you know, a creative mind, you know they
(11:25):
do those type of things. And that's something I experienced
when I was playing, so super excited to see, you
know what they the things they.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Do with him.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
So this offense supposed to have some West Coast elements
and also the Patriot type Bill O'Brien offense. If you
will you've played in both of them. Here, what do
you think it might look like when we see it
on the field.
Speaker 7 (11:45):
Well, uh, I was more I played in both, but
I was more favorite to the West Coast. That was
more of my favorite offense. But I think also but
Bill o'brown was very creative also, even though it was
a little bit more this is what it is and
this is what's going to happen. But I will say
(12:08):
that Bill O'Brien gave you more options as a quarterback
to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage, where in
the West coach you didn't have that. So I will
say that was the difference in both offenses. But I
was more a favor of West of the West Coast.
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Okay, I try.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
I know when I asked this question, just bear with me.
What's one thing you miss about training camp? What's one
thing you absolutely do not miss about training camp as
a player.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
To be honest, is nothing I miss about you.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Say it. I don't miss nothing about any of it.
You know.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
I have people like I was out here the other
day of practice and people's like, man, you don't miss playing.
I don't miss any of it at all. Actually, when
I'm out here looking at it. I'm always liked, how
was I able to do this for fourteen years? So,
to be honest, it makes you makes you ask more.
Quot didn't anything, so but nah, I just enjoy coming
out though watching it. I love watching practice and just
(13:08):
watching the games and things of that nature. So yeah,
I'm a I'm a huge fan of football.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
So yeah, but you have.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Said you do miss the camaraderie in the locker room,
that kind of stuff. How much of that happens during
training camp, that team bonding if you will.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
Man, that's that's the thing I would say, Like I
tell people all the time, that's the thing you missed
the most. The plane rides, the bus rides, being in
the locker room, being in the training room. We used
to have a it was a pull up bar in
the training room and we started shooting. Somehow we created
a basketball game imber, you know. So it was like
(13:46):
we started teams and we had like a whole tournament, you.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Know, and you won the belt.
Speaker 7 (13:51):
Yeah, we won the belt. I was I was being
justin for a set with a chance. So it was
just things like that, man, Like it was almost like
you didn't want to go home, you know, like because
like you know, you was finished with meanings. You know,
you're doing your treatments, you're doing your hotel code tu
of things of that nature. And we'll just started shooting
(14:12):
at basketball and then now that turns into like a
whole big thing and now you're competing at something else
other than football. So those are the things you enjoyed
just being around the guys and man it was those
are the things you miss. So when we get together
now with the legends and things like that, it's still
the same way. Like it's hard for us to leave
(14:35):
after you know, we do something together.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Dre.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
We're almost three hundred and sixty five days from when
you stood up and gave the last speech in Canton.
Now you're removed when you think back to that weekend
and what it was all about, and you going in
and you've talked so much about the people that you help,
your family, your mother. What do you think back to
that weekend in Canton and what was that all about?
Speaker 1 (14:56):
And what was it like for you?
Speaker 7 (14:57):
Man, that was a hell of experience. I don't really
think words can really describe it. Like it was a
hell of a experience.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Man.
Speaker 7 (15:08):
I was out here the other day and I was
talking to one of the coaches and he was like, man,
like your party was like, he was like, you don't understand,
like what that did for us as a coaching staff,
just them having a day off the next day and
just being in training camp and getting to just hang
out a little bit and cut loose. So it was
(15:28):
a hell of experience. I'm actually leaving to go to
Campton on Thursday. Okay, I'm going back Thursday. So man,
I'm just excited to go back and you know the
new class that's coming in and celebrate those guys.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
I got to see.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
Sterling Sharp at the Brothers in Arms golf tournament.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh yeah, he came here.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
And man, when I saw him, I just gave him
a huge hug. It was one of my favorite receivers
growing up. And I felt like Sterling should have been
in the Hall of Fame for what he did as
a player and a short time of his career whatever
because he had that injury. But super excited to see
him and Antonio Gates.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Fel was it kind of like looking in a mirror
when you were looking at Sterling Sharp, because he was
you before you.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
He just he got the neck injury.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
But he was a big, physical receiver that could go deep,
do everything on the field. But then he gets a
neck injury. But he was like looking in the mirror
and you're like looking at the same guy. You guys
were very similar in your games.
Speaker 7 (16:24):
Yeah, he definitely physical, I mean, could do everything on
the field. Like you said, he was me before me,
one of my favorite guys I watched growing up, him
and Jerry right, So to see him right after it
got announced, you know, they always communicate with us the
new guys that are coming in. So when I saw him, man,
(16:45):
I just gave him a huge hug and just told him, like, man,
you should have been in Like he was one of
my favorite guys to watch.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
On Wait two more.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
We were debating what could you still do out here
in a game, like you could play at least a
few snaps, right, asking you to play a few games,
but a few snaps probably you could get through that just.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Put being in the red zone?
Speaker 6 (17:10):
Do have to run that far?
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Just one? Just throw it up, throw up, let me
go get it?
Speaker 5 (17:15):
What about canes with Carson Beck? And isn't it weird
these days?
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Ray?
Speaker 6 (17:19):
Because you had cam Ward.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
For one year Boom and now let's go get Carson
Beck and pay him. It's just so strange now in college.
Speaker 7 (17:26):
Listen, I h to be honest, I just I'm not
I'm not a huge fan of it, to be honest.
We'll just see what happens. I'm actually going down for
the opening game against Order Dame.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Okay, I'm honorary captain.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
For the game. So uh, it'll be an exciting time.
I'm excited to see how this season goes, especially after Man.
When you have a Cam war leave man, it's hard
to replace him. So super excited for him, you know,
with the heightens and what he has going on. But
it's gonna be that'll be kind of hard, you know.
(18:05):
But we'll see rappers.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
All right.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
All right, last one from me.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Mark and I talk about this all the time.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
It's been twenty four years since your two thousand and
one Canes team took the field. Has there been a
college football team since never that could step on the
field with that group?
Speaker 7 (18:20):
Nah, We've I've had this conversation so many times.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Be too.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
I don't think you will ever see a team that
has that many draft picks, that many first round draft picks,
let alone.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
And you couldn't pay him to that.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
Yeah, and the talent was so stacked to where you
can't name a team where they said they had Frank
go as their third string running roun back up. Yeah,
nobody can say Sean Taylor was sitting on the bench
on that on their team. Like nobody can sit there
(19:00):
and say that Arail Road, Roscoe Parish. I can go
on and on, like guys Kellen Wins a little junior
guys are just on the team that the only thing
they could really do for you is run down on
kickoff and make some players.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
And they did it.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Did they got run.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Yeah, that's the only time they got any burns. So
I don't think it ever that will ever be matched.
I know a lot of people talk about the LSU
team with Joe Burrow and all those guys, they actually
broke our record, our scoring record, but I don't. I
still don't think as far as like scoring points, I
(19:37):
think we.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Still have the fastest.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
Like it was we were scoring a point points like
every forty or fifty something seconds.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Yeah, Like there were a lot of blowouts, Yeah, a
lot of blowout games, but there were two really close ones.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
I mean, as as that team was a BC.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Ye crazy, but you know the crazy thing.
Speaker 7 (19:55):
I always tell people like, I don't know what it
was about Virginia Tech. They all always played us close.
I don't know what it was like. It was always
they would create something with special teams, Like they were
always like dial up some type of play or block
punt or something that would kind of change the game.
So I don't know what it was about. Yeah, they
kind of they kind of had our number, but.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
We were able to skate escape.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
So well.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
The Big East was fun back then, and I think
you know, when you're in a league like that and
the short time that league was together, you developed some rivalries.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
Yeah, definitely you always look forward to playing certain teams,
especially v Tech. That was that was that was like
the big thing, especially when Michael Vick was there, and
I mean two years prior to that.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yeah, I've heard about the trip to Blab.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
That was. That was tough. Man.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
So yeah, that that It was a lot of fun though, man,
and created a lot of relationships with you know, Mike
Keith Buller, you know, just playing Syracuse and uh, it
just created relationship that you developed, you know over the years.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
All right, Dray, thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
For joining us. We appreciate it, all right, appreciates.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
That's Hall of Famer Andre Johnson. And it feels so
good to say that. It feels so good to say
hall of Famer Andrey Johnson, who's in so many halls
of fame. I was there when he got into the
Hurricanes Hall of Fame back in twenty fourteen. But to
get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
But that was such a fun time talking with Andre
this morning, a little bit of surprise.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
I had no idea. Who's standing there?
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Mark asked me. He said, yeah, let's do it. And
we got a great time there with Andre Johnson. Now
we weren't lucky enough to do this, but in the loop,
John Lopez, Reggie had Tula had chance to catch up
with Brevin Jordan, one of our fames.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Well that for you.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Next to Texans Access look back this wonderful Monday at
Iss of Texans, All Act says we came up with
Andre Johnson Hall of Famer earlier in the show. If
you missed that, go to our podcast page Houston Texas
dot com. Look at the podcast, Go check out Harris Hits,

(22:05):
back in training camp who I'm so happy to see
is number nine Brevan Jordan.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
This morning with the end of loop.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
Guys in Sports Radio six tenj On Lopez, Reggie Tula,
Brev sat down and well he was his typical wonderful
Brevan self.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Here we go.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
I'm looking at number nine for your Houston Texans walking
towards us. That's Brevin Jordan. Excited to talk to him,
a potential breakout player for your Texans. And my man
looks fit. Man, my man looks good. Uh, he's got
the skull cap and everything. Joining us right now is
Brevin Jordan. Is he's about to get his headset on.
(22:42):
I mean dripping sweat right off of the practice field.
He's got himself a nice beverage, gonna get those elector
likes back.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Tell you is that gonna be enough? No imbout going
aside and get some pickle dude from Rice though, maybe
got a salt packet.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Man, you're a guy.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Yeah, does it work? I don't know if anything really works,
but you could try.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
You know what I'm saying exactly?
Speaker 8 (23:04):
No, I love that was that something that you just
figured out yourself or was that advice? Because one of
the things this is my first training camp, so I've
been really intrigued with what are the pieces of the
advice that either people are giving or have received about
training camp that has helped them the best.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Yeah, our nutrition is Our nutrition staff is unbelievable, Hannah
lad They do an unbelievable job of just preparing us
before we come out here because this heat is you
can't you can't really be prepared for this. You have
to come out just try your best to just hydrate,
to get as much electrolytes in.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Man.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
So they do an unbelievable job with us.
Speaker 9 (23:35):
Now listen, uh, we got a lot to talk about you.
You seem to be really in the mix this year, more.
Speaker 10 (23:40):
So than ever.
Speaker 9 (23:41):
But I gotta go back to last year when when
you hurt yourself, you gave no indication that it was
a bad injury.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Man, and you played on it.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Man, dude, what that was incredible to me?
Speaker 9 (23:52):
Did you surprise yourself think it was like that bad man?
Speaker 10 (23:55):
I had?
Speaker 6 (23:56):
You played on it?
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I played on it. I have no I still to this,
they have no clue what play I tore my a
cl on. It was just I don't even know how
to man. It was unbelievable. Like, we had an MRI
scheduled because I was dealing with this, like little knee
stuff here and there before the game, just because just
football stuff, you know, little stuff. But we when we
looked at the MRI before, I had an MRI before that,
(24:18):
it was fine. So we had an MRI schedule, just
trying to manage it throughout the season. And when we
scheduled the MRI and after the game, I took the MRI,
I thinking everything was fine. I walked home and went
came in the next morning. Everything was fine. And then
we went in the meeting and they said you tore
your a cl and I was just utterly shocked. I
had no clue it was a I was astonished A
hold on.
Speaker 9 (24:38):
Even after the adrenaline dropped.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
I had no clue. Wow, I had no no, not really, man,
I really. I came in and it was just it
was regular. I thought I was completely fine.
Speaker 9 (24:48):
Dang, you're John Wick.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Man. I had no clue. It was unbelievable.
Speaker 9 (24:54):
Did you surprise yourself with your paying threshold that you could?
Speaker 1 (24:57):
I mean, yeah, bro, I mean I've seen some ACL injuries. Man,
they look crazy like and for me to just go
out there and play on it in the way I
tore it, it was completely torn, like completely torn off the
bone like I was. I'm shot still to this day.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
Yeah, but with ACLS, I mean, as you mentioned, it
could be really gnarly. I mean it takes a while
for you to get your confidence back. When did you
gain your confidence back? And also like do you feel
like the same player?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Is it kind of different now?
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Man?
Speaker 1 (25:26):
I got my confidence back. I want to say, like
month four, you know I was. I wasn't posting a
lot about it. I was trying to stay under the
radar about it. But our training staff, Rolling, Shannon, Randy,
that whole staff, they did an unbelievable job. I just
put my head down and just came in and worked
every day and in so shout out to them. They
did an unbelievable job. And now I'm man, I'm faster, stronger.
(25:47):
I ran twenty one point seven at one point throughout rehab,
So I'm feeling faster, stronger man, and I'm just ready
to go for the season.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
If there is a silver lining and nobody ever wants
to get injured. It happened early enough. Yeah, so you
are you had all the rehab, you know, I'm sure.
I'm sure early in the off season you you felt
like you were good to go.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Oh yeah, man, I was man. By by spring, I
was I was just just just.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Just ready to do.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I was just watching, you know, but I was ready.
I was ready. And our training staff just did an
unbelievable jobs. They helped me get the confidence back to
push on it and and you know, be explosive off
of it.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
Now we're talking to Brevin Jordan tied in for you
Houston Texans right here, and I mean, you've been a
guy who's been a candidate for breakout every year. It
feels like everybody's excited about the possibility of you having
your moment in the sun with this team. And I'm
really interested from your perspective, what for this year? Feels
like it gives you the opportunity to be that guy
for everybody that's looking at you.
Speaker 7 (26:43):
Man.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Honestly, to me, that's all outside noise, bro. Like, I'm
glad people you know, thinking of me to have a
breakout year.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Man.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
But to be honest with you, I come out here
every day to work, to have a breakout, like every
day to meet at practice, this game day, like I'm
trying to prove it every day to my coaches, to
my teammates and myself that you know, I'm accountable, I'm
a reliable you can trust me to do my job.
So all that stuff is cool, man. But for me, Bro,
it's just let's go out here and let's win some games.
Let me do my part, let me be reliable to
(27:11):
my coaches and to my teammates, and everything will take
care of itself.
Speaker 9 (27:14):
So when a new offensive coordinator comes in, I'm sure,
like everybody else, you're like, what let me see about
this guy?
Speaker 1 (27:19):
You know, Yeah, And all of.
Speaker 10 (27:21):
A sudden, you're going on the list.
Speaker 9 (27:22):
Wait a minute, he coached tight ends his whole line. Ye,
wait a minute, he worked with the tight ends in
the offensive line. Wait a minute, they're gonna use two
three tight ends.
Speaker 10 (27:29):
That had to have been.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Music music to your ears.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
When they hired Tayley, I was so hyped. I remember
it was it was early in I was it was
early in our rehab process. But I no so noted.
The none of the team was really in the building
like that, And I remember I seen Demiko, you know,
he was walking in the hallway and I just told him.
I just told him, like, man, great hire coach. Like
I was so hyped just looking at the resume that
he had, being with La, being with New England, being
(27:51):
around some great tight ends. Man, I'm excited. I'm excited
to create coach. His energy is infectus.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
Yeah, we've heard a lot about his energy.
Speaker 8 (27:59):
Have you been able to feel the difference of having
that tight end experience.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Specifically with k Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Man, what it's It's funny, Like it'd be small things
like like on a chip block, if the defensive end
is a in a thirty five technique, he's way out
by the hash and you know, we want to get
in the receiver stands for some small as that. Kayla
would be like, hey, hey, no, getting the square stands,
It'll make your job easier. Like little stuff like that
that the offensive coordinator is not really thinking about. You know,
(28:24):
he has a lot to handle. He's worried about the
offensive line receivers and for him to have that keen
detail with the tight ends is some unbelievable joke. Bro,
It's gonna make our job a lot easier.
Speaker 8 (28:33):
You're listening to klt AM klt F MHD two Houston.
Speaker 9 (28:37):
Right, all right, So are you seeing it in practice now?
Because not only is he a tight ends coach, but
he uses two to three tight ends. It seems like
it's wide open even playing field for all four of
you guys.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Is it that? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Man? I mean all of us are just coming out
every day working bro. We have a great room, we
have a great staff, and they're putting us in positions
to go out and be successful as a room. You know, today,
I think all of us how to try. I think
all of us had a play.
Speaker 10 (29:01):
Call for us.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
I think Luke Darling, kde or we all had catches. So,
I mean, it's it's unbelievable. Man. The tight end group
is definitely going to be involved in them. I'm just excited,
you know, just to be a part of it. Now.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
How much how exciting is it? And what's the difference?
Speaker 8 (29:13):
Because I was thinking about this earlier today we were
watching the whole first four days I practice and we're
looking at the offense. I'm like, oh, man, blocking wise,
how much different is it to have the actual pads
on where you can get a grip on it that technically.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Man, I've been missing it. I was ready to go
this morning when they when I got up for this
morning and I was eating breakfast, I was just like sweating. Bro, Like,
we got the pads on finally, Like I haven't put
on paths in so long, so to be blocking with
paths on, it makes our job a lot easier. Trying
to block, you know, Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter with
no pads, it's it's pretty hard. Trying to block the
(29:45):
way pads is hard enough, but trying to block them
without pads, it's it's pretty difficult. So it just feels
good to be bad.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Have you been able to tell the step up for
those guys this from last year to this.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Year Daniel and Will? Yes, Yeah, dudes. I don't think
them dudes. Them dudes get their motors are so you know,
everybody sees what they do on Sundays. But I'm with
them dudes five six days a week, seven days a week.
I see how they work. There's a reason why they're
so successful. So yeah, them boys are Unbelievabley're stepping up
every year.
Speaker 10 (30:11):
You guys got to protect CJ. Stroud, you guys especially,
and last year.
Speaker 9 (30:15):
I'm not trying to throw anybody under the bus, but
to me, my words, it felt a little unfair. The
tight ends were on an island so much. How is
that translated to this year with your blocking techniques and
your assignment?
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah, man, I mean honestly, that's the position we play.
We have to be asked to lock on third down.
We have to be able to be IO on a
d N and tram to a middle linebacker, go runner
routes like that's our job. So last year was a
tough situation for us as a as a whole offense.
But I think this year we learned from it. Last year,
We're gonna, you know, try to correct it and be
better this year.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
All Rightsprevan, I'm not gonna try and influence the witness here. However,
I mentioned this is my first training camp, my man
of the og here, he's been here a very long time.
He's trying to get me to carry his back. And
I want to ask you. I want to ask players.
I want to get your perspectives. Do I need to
carry the bag or is that something that I can
just let go? Is he just need to carry his
on back?
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Bro?
Speaker 10 (31:02):
You're good, bron You good.
Speaker 8 (31:06):
This is why, this is why I drafted you in
the guys that I'm looking for, no doubt.
Speaker 9 (31:11):
All right, let's talk about the guys inside of you.
You know there's everybody talking about the offensive line. What
do you I'm not gonna mention anything. Want you to
mention what you've been seeing. Man with the tackles.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Man, our tackles are Tay Blake Fisher, they are. These
guys are doing an unbelievable job. Cam Translan out yet.
But man, we have an unbelievable group with our offensive
line as a whole. The mentality that we're establishing upfront
is it needs to be feeling, feel infectious, you know,
the whole team needs to be able to feel the
energy of the offensive line up the guys up front
(31:41):
getting started for us every Sunday. So I think we're
just establishing an identity of just competitive nature, just competitive toughness.
And I think he's gonna really show on Sundays. I'm
looking forward to, you know, everybody getting rid of that doubt,
getting rid of everybody's out of the offensive line and
just showing up on Sundays and having sevens back.
Speaker 10 (31:58):
How do you respond to Saturday where they had some
success against you.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Yeah, to talk about the defense, Yeah, I mean this year,
I think this week today we came out with just
a competitive nature with the pads are on. Is different.
Some bunch of guys out there, grown man with a
lot of testosterone. So, I mean it was it was
getting chirpy out there, but it felt good, man, It
felt good to just be out the passing.
Speaker 8 (32:18):
I think we responded to well to that. You get
a real good perspective of c. J. Stroud and we
know that this offense is going to put a lot
more on him. He's talked about it. How is from
your perspective, how's he been handling kind of the additional
work workload that's been put on.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
I mean that dude, that dude is so grown. I've
seen him. I've seen him since my rookie year, and yeah,
he's he's grown up and he's changed. But man, that
dude is so grown. He's like I'll be talking like
telling him, like, bro, you like thirty bro, thirty time already. Bro,
Like he handles his business so well and he's just
so mature. So I seeing how he's going about his business, bro,
it just it motivates all of us. He's handling it
(32:53):
and he's running things much more man. He's running, he has,
he's hands on. He's hands on with a lot of things, motions, audibles,
he's he's on top of it.
Speaker 9 (33:00):
And so I've been coming to training camps in the
NFL for over thirty years.
Speaker 10 (33:03):
He can't carry my backpack one day, one day.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Hold strong, you know you don't need it.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Your first one, my first one, Yeah, you might have
to do it time, just time I thought we were
gonna make it.
Speaker 8 (33:18):
Has been an absolute pleasure, Brevian. I mean, we got
to do this again. And I know that you're working
every day like you you know, like it's it's game day.
We still are excited for the opportunity for your breakout
because I know that you talk about it. You're a fighter,
your families are fighters, so we're excited to see more
from you.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Appreciate you, bro, No, brev We appreciate you, my man.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Thank you so much for joining the guys. And we'll
get you on with Mark and I get you back home.
You just went to your beach house for a little
bit with the guys. Now you come back to your
primary residence with me and Mark very very soon. We
alls had a chance to catch up with John McClain,
the General. He will join us next. His thoughts on camp,
thoughts on the running back position. We'll do all that
next right here in Texas All Access. We're going final
(33:58):
sleeping this Monday issue of Texas All Accent. It's from
New Texans Radio studio. I'm John Harris for pointal Sideline Reports.
Time to catch up with our good friend John McClain,
the General. We asked him about Joe Mixon to start.
Speaker 10 (34:12):
They knew he was a work in progress.
Speaker 11 (34:14):
He said at least two injuries going back to the
hip drop tackle, which was two different times, it caused
him to miss games. So, because it's a national breaking
the news, I don't know anybody here that was surprised.
I read where Nixon hasn't had a preseason carry since
twenty twenty one.
Speaker 10 (34:34):
So him not getting to carry in preseason it's no
big deal. Now, if he's not ready for the Rams,
it's a big deal.
Speaker 11 (34:40):
If we see Nick Casario bringing another veteran running back,
it's a big deal.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Can you tell anything about how Nick Chubb looks based
on the performance out here or anything like that.
Speaker 11 (34:51):
Well, the best thing about Nick Chubb is he's healthy.
He's two years removed from that major knee surgery. So
usually it's the second sea and back when subconsciously they
believe they're back.
Speaker 10 (35:04):
And he's playing for a lot, he's on a one
year contract.
Speaker 11 (35:07):
I expect whatever he's gotten left, they'll get the best
of it. And you guys know, remember was it twenty
when he scored that winning touchdown in the hurricane in
Cleveland and they had to evacuate the stands and uh,
he broke the Texans hard. So everybody in Cleveland loves Chubb.
People are falling in love with him here. I don't
(35:28):
know how many carries he's gonna get in pre season,
but he's got to have some because he's got to
show him what he've got. We'll see a lot of
Woody Marks, a lot of Jeward Jordan and Darry goombawally
and but I'm thinking if if he if he's on
the roster for the first game, he's gonna play.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Chubb didn't score a touchdown. That was when he stepped
out of bounce at the two yard line.
Speaker 10 (35:50):
That, yes, that's what it was.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
That's when I fell in love with Nick Chubb. That
was really smart, and I would not have scored.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
I know, I went through that that hurricane, if you will,
and then and I saw him do that, I was like,
that was smart, that was really good. But again I
think that now, look that game was in twenty twenty.
It's five years ago. But that shows you to me
what Nick Chubb's all about. Now, he had had a
pretty good game to that point, but that run, that
was a third and like two, we get the ball back,
there's a chance he turned the corner. He broke three
(36:19):
tackles and then got up the sideline and then nobody
could catch him. So looks it's five years from that,
so who's to say. But because he was so physical
that day, our guys are like throwing their shoulders into
him and arms and nothing happens. You got to you
gotta bring everything possible to come tackle him. John on
the other side of the ball to defense, they look
to me, as you shoulday, kind of in mid season form,
(36:41):
and they should be because they've been together.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
But they added CJ. Gardner, Johnson other pieces.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
But Will Anderson Junior literally held him out of the
fourth period of practice the other day because it felt
like they had to because the offense is gonna get
anything done. They had to have Will off the field.
He looks as if he's gone to a different level
your thoughts thus far.
Speaker 11 (36:58):
Yeah, there's all these great on Will Anderson, but they
can't block him. They're not They can't because they're not
allowed to block him. You know, you don't have pads on.
So I see all these things. Man Will anders is blowing.
Speaker 10 (37:10):
By these people. Well he should be. They can't barely
touch him.
Speaker 11 (37:14):
So today this is a better barometer because they'll be
able to hit him.
Speaker 10 (37:20):
But yes, he is by far the most impressive defensive
player out there so far.
Speaker 11 (37:25):
And they've got so much depth in the defensive line,
and they got depth a linebacker. If Christian Eras comes back,
I believe it when I see it, because he looks
more normal and strict than on the sideline.
Speaker 10 (37:38):
At some point. Since he's not on the list, he's
gonna come back.
Speaker 11 (37:42):
Picking up EJ. Speed also was a big deal for
this defense. They could have the best secondary in the league.
Dimiko Ryans, the play caller, and Matt Burke. They do
a great job. Now they got to do the same
kind of job on offense.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
Well, you're hearing in the back ride fans they saw us. Yeah,
they they're screaming for the Hall of Famer. But fans
are just saying a lot of Texans as they're coming
in in full pads here ready to rock for day
five of training camp. John, One thing I don't feel
like we have any extra clarity on really is the
wide receiver position. You know, we know Nico Collins, Christian Kirk's,
(38:20):
et cetera, Higgins and Noel doing their thing, but it's
not like anybody's really rising or falling on are perceived
and I stressed that word perceived depth chart of the situation.
Speaker 11 (38:31):
Your thoughts, well, they can't under the circumstances with no Ning.
I think that will take place in the joint practices
in the preseason games because the Flokies are gonna play.
You know Nico, I wouldn't put him out there for
one play, and I believe you know it'll be It'll
be Nico, Jayden Higgins, and Christian Kirk and then Jalen
(38:53):
Noel will get a lot of playing time.
Speaker 10 (38:56):
And those will be your first four receivers.
Speaker 11 (38:58):
And after that it's a crapshoot because there's a lot
of guys who were kind of equal at this point.
Speaker 10 (39:04):
One of the guys I.
Speaker 11 (39:05):
Like is Xavier Rutgens because he plays special teams. He's
made some big plays in his career. It's his third year.
He'll do anything the coaches.
Speaker 10 (39:14):
Want him to do. I hope he makes the team.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
John is their player or two cut on your radar
screen that has been on the roster previously, has played
started previously.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
That you think is.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
Perhaps not gonna make the fifty three man roster.
Speaker 11 (39:29):
Ooh boy, I thought you're gonna ask me if that
dead has has a chance to start or play, well,
do that.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
One do both of them? Do both of them?
Speaker 3 (39:38):
That the guy that's gonna maybe be questionable for the roster,
but a guy maybe that could step up and in
some playing time starter role.
Speaker 10 (39:44):
John Mitchee the third, it's got to be make or
break for him.
Speaker 11 (39:47):
You know, he's he's two years removed from beating cancer
and they've got depth at that position. If they thought
that he was gonna take that next step and play
the way expected when he was drafted in the second
round before the cancer, I don't think they would have
drafted two receivers in the second and third round, and
(40:08):
really any of those were. Hutchinson's an other one. You know,
he could be gone and he's contributed at times. You know,
will Brevin Jordan. Will Brevin Jordan be around him with
all the time he's missed and a guy who's really
got a step up. I'm interested in Blake Fisher and
Jews Scrugs. Those two guys were second round picks. They
(40:30):
weren't drafted to sit on the bench, and they need
those guys to play, Scrugs third year, Fisher's second.
Speaker 10 (40:37):
You guys know how that second guitar player.
Speaker 11 (40:39):
Should be showing his biggest improvement. So can Fisher and
Cam Robinson keep erry Ontaersey Nursery on the bench for
at least a while? No, But if they don't, then
somebody is going to be the odd man out. And
I'm gonna guess it's going to be on the right
side with Blake Fisher.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Down right in pen area out to Arstree be one
of his team's top three offensive linemen this year.
Speaker 5 (41:04):
As a rookie offensive lineman, as a whole, as a Okay,
it's funny because we're doing our training camp special with
Air Sunday night at ABC thirteen at eleven o'clock, and
I interviewed Titus Howard for it. You've been interviewing guys
from the Special as well, and they had, you know,
the little title underneath your name, So me voice of
(41:26):
the Texans. What should I put under Titus Vandermere? Should
I put right guards and put guards?
Speaker 6 (41:30):
Shod? I put tack?
Speaker 5 (41:31):
He said tackle, because Titus, I believe is still listed
as a tackle on the official roster.
Speaker 6 (41:36):
I said, you can't put tackle.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
He's offensive. Just just generalize. It's my It's the Vandermere
motto of journalism. When in doubt, be vague, you can
sell yourself.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
It's fine.
Speaker 10 (41:48):
They have me down for media. Yeah, he said, what's amiliation?
Are you media?
Speaker 11 (41:54):
I said, well, I'm Texans Radio kr IVY Sports Radio sixteen,
so we'll put.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
You for me.
Speaker 10 (42:01):
I don't think you need a Titus is gonna play guard? Yeah,
we know he is.
Speaker 11 (42:05):
And if he's playing tackle means somebody got hurt or
somebody's been really bad. But considering Ariante, his experience at
Minnesota and uh, the way Cold Baba Vich is coaching
him and what he's talking about, it won't surprise me
if he's not starting at one of those spots.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
The irony of Titus, though, being locked in at right guard,
a position he hasn't played right guard this year. Okay, fine,
you know he's the he's the lock right now, Whereas
in the past it's been like, well, Titus could be
a tackle, he could be left guard. He could you know,
you can move him around. He could be left tackle
if you need him to be left tackle. But it's
interesting that they.
Speaker 10 (42:42):
Played pretty well at left guard last year. I thought
for sure he'd be back at left guard.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
I think the biggest thing for Titus, as it is
for a lot of players, they go to a different
level when they understand what their role is and accept it.
And I think Titus was in okay tackle, but he
showed you when he jumped in the lineup against Miami.
Speaker 6 (43:03):
He can be as good a guard as he wants
to be. And I think he's in much better shape
than he.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Was last year.
Speaker 6 (43:09):
He's still still big, but he's moving.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
Well, he holds up and I think the way they're
gonna run the ball with double teams and things like that,
running more duo, I think that's gonna help Titus. It's
gonna help the center whoever the center ends up being,
which ends up being John the biggest competition piece seemingly
on that on the offensive line, I think Ers is
gonna be one of the tackles. I think Titus is
(43:32):
that right guard. I don't have a clue of who
the center is gonna be. And they've rotated Jake, they've
rotated Jared. Those two been going back and forth. What
are your thoughts on center?
Speaker 11 (43:42):
I'm gonna say Andrews since he's been doing first team
more going back to the start of the off season program,
I think what everybody put out their day in fans
will not be the starting offensive line for the Rams,
and Cam Robbins will not be or will will not Okay,
there will be changes, okay. And can Cam Robinson hold
(44:03):
down left tackle or is that whereseer He's gonna start.
Speaker 10 (44:06):
On left us?
Speaker 6 (44:07):
I think it's too early to tell. They need to
see more, and that's fair.
Speaker 11 (44:11):
One guy's career is going up, yep, and that's Ariantay.
Where Robinson's on one year deal, he's playing for money
and Fisher's the one.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
And also we.
Speaker 10 (44:21):
Can't forget Jews scrubsw Scrugs at guard.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
They like him.
Speaker 11 (44:25):
Can jew Scrugs become a starters guard because he wasn't
the center.
Speaker 5 (44:30):
It's funny when Scruggs is healthy. He's got to be healthy.
Johnny gotta be health. I mean, duh, but he's got.
He has not been able to maintain health and that's
been a big stemy to his career. Let me ask
you this general. Demiko Ryans was asked about delegating. I
see Matt Burke with the walkie talkie calling defensive plays
out here. Is that a training camp thing? What are
we gonna see week one against the Rams? Is to
(44:51):
me go back on the calls? Or does he delegate
that to Burke?
Speaker 10 (44:54):
Do we know Demiko loves calling the defense.
Speaker 11 (44:58):
I knew he was gonna do it all along because
he loves doing it now delegating. He was asked about
calling a defense or Matt. I think he's given He
knows what Matt can do. Matt's been a defensive coordinator
in the NFL and he does a really good job.
Speaker 10 (45:14):
But I'd be stunned if Tomko gave it up.
Speaker 11 (45:17):
But I'll never forget when I was in Denver doing
a big story on Gary Kubiak before he'd been named
the coach because Bob McNair told me they're not iron
him and he wouldn't talk to me. But Shannan said,
Gary's gonna be like me. He's gonna be like every
other play caller becomes in a coach. He's gonna call
the signals and then he's gonna realize being a head
(45:39):
coach has so much responsibility. He's gonna give it to
somebody else. So I'm thinking that about Dimko too. Just
don't know if it be in the third year.
Speaker 10 (45:49):
Things have worked out so well the way they're doing it.
Speaker 11 (45:52):
Why Tampa was something that has worked so well and
has the potential to work even better with all the
talent they have on defense general.
Speaker 5 (46:02):
One more thing you mentioned Bob McNair, Well, the co founder,
Janis McNair, was announced on Saturday. We'll get into the
ring of honor very special. Your thoughts on that.
Speaker 11 (46:13):
I know when we told her she was in the
Houston Sports Hall of Fame surprised her. She said, I
don't deserve that. And I asked, Cal, what's the first
thing your mom said when you told her? I don't
deserve that? And I went down her tent and congratulated
her she said. At first, I was embarrassed, and then
I thought about it. I'm going to be up there
with Bob forever, and I said, well, it'll probably be
(46:35):
two places.
Speaker 10 (46:35):
You're up there with Bob forever. He's so humble. I
met her in nineteen ninety seven, early after the Oilers left,
and I've.
Speaker 11 (46:45):
Liked and respected her ever since. She is so humble
and it means so much to her. Cal got choked up.
I've never seen Cal get choked up. And I'll guarantee
you when they're out there for Denver and they're putting
is mom, I'm up there with his dad.
Speaker 10 (47:01):
He's gonna get choked up, big Jack.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
That's tough, and I love the way she looks at
it that way. And we don't know exactly how they're
gonna do it. I think a big possibility would be
Robert and Janis McNair up there, which would be fantastic.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
Well, I can't wait for that Denver Broncos game, which
I believes Week nine, that is when Janis McNair will
go up into the Ring of Honor. So looking forward
that appreciate the General for stopping by as he does
each and every week during training camp. Big thanks to
the Goat Hall of Famer Andre Johnson, to Brevin Jordan.
Of course the guy's on in the loop, John Lopez
Reggi had two two tremendous guys to do a great
(47:34):
job and have done great job with those interviews as well.
That's why we wanted to feature him here. It's all
of you for listen. Thank you so very much. We
back in the morning. Texas training camp live at eight
field Side in pads.
Speaker 6 (47:47):
Going to be a blast.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
Hope we see you there, but if not, we know
you're there in spirit. Appreciate you listening. We'll see them
on as always, Go Texans.
