Hello Texans, Welcome to the program, as we rock on
from inside NRG Stadium, the Hyundai Texans Radio Studio. Mark
Vandermere with John Harris. We were on last night talking
about a bunch of stuff, and we're on tonight talking
about a bunch of stuff related to your Houston Texans,
of course, who are at work during the multi week

off season conditioning and ramp up period whatever you want
to call it OTAs, and we'll be out there soon enough.

For ot is the actual practice part of OTAs.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
They're doing some stuff now, but it's some without the ball,
some with the ball. Offense can't go against the defense
and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
There are a lot of.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Rules and rags. In other words, give me training camp.
Darn it, and Johnny, I know we hit on this
last night, but I have notes on the golf tournament
a couple of other notes that I didn't get to less. Okay,
all right, all right, I'm all here. First of all,
fair Maarn's team won it. It was BMW Group one
with John Garcia, who runs BMW Houston. I was on
the other BMW group, which was not good. I said,

you guys, put this one together. So the other one
would look better, just to kind of balance it out.

Ringers. Oh, well, look, I don't know whoever got fair Baron,
That's what it was. He's the ringer.

I'm not I'm sure they had some good players in
that group, but fair Baron is lights out, and Tommy
Townsend's group came in second. Oh second, Oh, with Joe Sutton,
our good friend Joe Sutton on that team, and that
was first and second.

Gross. That doesn't really matter.

You know, net is net because people have handicaps and
we're gonna really fact check them with the USGA.

I don't think so. I'm not doubting anybody. I'm just
having fun. But Tommy Townsend, it's interesting. Somebody who's asking,
you know, who are the best Texans golfers fair Baron
and Townsend, and you know usually quarterbacks. Davis is pretty good. Ever,
Davis is good. Davis was out there swinging yep. So
I pointed out this that for the specialists, Oh.

You mean the ball doesn't move. I could just hit
the ball.

It's gonna sit there the whole time, no problem, Because
for fair Baron kicking and field goal, the golf equivalent
would be somebody teeing the ball up while you're in
your backswing. You know, that's what it is, you know, Yeah,
Like the ball's not on the tee until his leg's
coming through it.

You know. That's how you have to kick a field
goal in this league.

And for Tommy, you know, if anyone's ever seen a
punt in slow motion, he lets go of the ball
for a split second, and that ball is, you know,
not always in the exact position. I mean, he does
his best, but there's some margin for error there. We
all know how hard it is to hit a golf ball.
But I found that to be fun. Cushing was out there, obviously,
Dimiko was out there. Johnny Demiko and Brian Cushing, when

they stand next to each other, it's like, hey, can
we suit up to play linebacker? It two thousand and
three even. I mean, these guys are throwback linebackers for sure.

The way they're built.

It's I mean, when you see both of them, you're like,
I remember seeing Cush. I can't remember what game Cush
was on the sideline, for gosh, what game was that?
I can't remember. That was last year he was on
the sidelines. I was like, man, you.

Got more than three plays because I was.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I've always heard Teddy j Ted Johnson, our good friend
who's now up back in New England, up in Boston.
He used to say, I got three plays in me. Yeah,
I got three plays in me. And I always think
about that Andre Johnson with Cush Miko, like it feels
like they have more than three plays. But I remember
asking Andre that once and Andrea's answer was funny.

He's like, yeah, I got three, three, four, four, four, just.

Three, give me three, and it's it's fascinating, and I
think about I've been thinking about Andre a lot today,
in particular because I was watching Ohio State Michigan from
last year, trying to find prospects for twenty twenty six,
and you can't help with seat number four, Jeremiah Smith,
and like he's a stud, and You're like, that's Andre.
It looks like that's the closest thing I've seen to

Andre forever. And I'm never I've never comped anybody to
Andre Johnson and I'm I'm so very close to doing
it and he's not even eligible for this year. What
about kind of holding on that?

Where did you or who did you comp aj Brown
with when he came out?

Do you remember I don't remember a while back. I
don't know if I was doing comps.

It probably lofty praise though at the time because as
he played as a pro, Andre Johnson comps him to himself.

He says, AJ Brown's the closest thing. Yeah, but he's
not Adrey Johnson. And well, I go AJ Brown? Yeah,
Oh who did I I was thinking AJ Green? AJ Brown?

I had probably a different comp because it was so
hard because AJ Brown was six' to one ish too
twenty and he was rocked, up but he played the
slot the entire. Time it all miss, okay and so
it was. Weird he was, Like, OKAY i know this
guy can be pretty.

Good and funny story about.

That SO i was Talking Darbuddy Lands airline and he
had mentioned that he was talking to A gm that
we both know really well who is in THE Afc
south and so having a conversation and it sounded Like
Chris ballad wasn't all that like hopped, up like thinking
the Old miss guys, were you know that they were

all that in a bag of. Chips AND i had
just seen a picture of both of them working out
and they're flexing and you can see like their eighteen
packs AND i mean just. Ripped they sent that picture
To lansa said send this To. Ballad he sent back
the theme song from The. Jeffersons moving on uh oh.
Wow and they. Did they moved on. Up they got
a little bit, HIGHER i think than a lot of people,

thought BECAUSE i think a lot of people Wouldn't Miss
or when they were At Old miss thought they were
just specimens but they weren't really great wide receivers. Yet
and then they came into the league and have had
a lot of. Success and now we'll see WHAT dk
does with The. Steelers but you Know aj when he,
that you, know people forget about. That the night that
we drafted staying in the first. Round, yeah we also

find out that The titans have TRADED Aj, Brown And
i'm not gonna say there's a singular event that takes
The titans off the, top you, know off the top.
ROPE i, mean they were, good good, organization GOT afc.
Championship but when they took him out of, there that

right so my hot take On Andre. JOHNSON i gave
this to you off the air. ONCE i don't Think
i've ever done this on the, air AND i wasn't

Johnson, now we all talk About Andre johnson and the,
quarterbacks and it's not disrespectful To matt just, say, oh
if he had A hall Of fame, quarterback but, me

WAS i, Mean Andre johnson gets drafted in two thousand and,
three does not make the playoffs till twenty. Eleven just
two playoff appearances in his career For Andre, johnson thank
god he got into Ken but If andre was drafted, by,
say The New England, PATRIOTS i think that he would
be regarded as the greatest receiver that ever played this,

Be Andrey. Johnson, now before people at me listen to,
THIS i think the number of catches would be similar

but here's the clincher for me why he'd be regarded so,

highly so much more highly regarded that he is now
and he's in The hall Of, Fame because if he
plays with The. Patriots he's playing In Super, bowls he's
playing in all the postseason. Stuff he's making plays that
would be signature moments that would not only immortalize him
in THE, NFL i think it would turn out to

be that he's thought to be the greatest receiver that
ever played because, size, speed, strength all the attributes you
put him in that offense over the, years with that
kind of production in the postseason and Super bowl championships,
PLURAL i think that's what it. Is nothing taken From
Jerry rice, Here i'm not gonna take anything. Away, however you,
know let's Take Jerry rice out of the forty nine.

Ers i'm sure he's still an excellent. Receiver but place
means a. Lot quarterbacks mean a, ton the offense means
a lot of, championships and he had a great deal

think that he would be regarded as the best. Ever

point to the playoffs and Look Julian edelman is one
of the, greatest if not the, greatest playoff receiver of all.
Time he was incredible in the catch he makes here
in the in The Super bowl against The, falcons the
game he had against The seahawks two years prior in

to The Super. Bowl he was always open and available
in this playoffs and, me he WAS mvp of The
Super bowl a few years LATER.

he's got big old headphones, on he's got his game

with the guy with the girl and the other girls
walked in the way and all three of them turned to,
look AND i just saw the expression on their.

bigger physical kind of guy who did a little bit

him Taking Kenyon green and Tackling Damian pierce With Kenyon
green is one of the most impressive Feats i've ever

one hundred percent or as close to it as possible

twelve and it's The Cleveland. Browns The ravens ultimately trade
up to this selection to draft defensive Tackle Holoda, nada
parting with just an. Extras they. Parted oh, yeah they

went from thirteen to. Twelve so they Flipped, Okay williams
might not have been the most impactful player from this,
draft earning a seventy two point SEVEN pff over were
all great in his first five, years but he still
made Four Pro bowls and earned two first Team All
pro and two second Team All pro selections in his. Career,
wow so he goes he goes twelve to The Cleveland
Brown mario's two time first Team All.
