Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello Texans, Welcome to the show, the last one of
the off season, because training camp starts tomorrow morning. Will
be live on the air from the Houston Methodist Trading Center.
Mark Vandermin and John Harris with you tonight, Tim Settle, MJ.
Stewart other players will join us and Johnny. Are you
ready for the off season to officially end? It will
(00:20):
end tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Rip Off Season twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
It's over.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
It's over. It's dead. We put it to bed. It's
time to go. The players have been in the building today.
See numerous guys going out for conditioning tests. Got the
cleats going out on the grass.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
I don't know if there's an official conditioning test, because
point can they not have one last year, the year
before something. I think Demiko Ryans has a philosophy about this.
We'll hear about it tomorrow anyway. Yeah, he's better come
back in shape.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah. I saw a bunch of guys going out there.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Yeah, and they were definitely working out and they've been well,
we've been talking about it. They've been working out an
awful lot. If they don't, we're kind of in trouble
here because this is what they do. They worked out
they played football, so good thing. And you saw the
CJ social media throwing session sessions he had with various
Texans players, very good, and a bunch of other guys
(01:13):
doing a bunch of other things. So we're good to go.
But tonight, since the offseason ends, we're gonna say goodbye
to the twenty twenty five offseason with the Best of
the twenty twenty five Off Season Awards. Yes, people have
gathered from all over the world to get together for
this amazing awards show. And by that I mean not really,
(01:33):
but we're gonna go over it. So let's start here
with the categories. Are you ready, Okay, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Best off season moment? What was the best moment of
the offseason? Now, this could be something personal for you
or preferably a Texans moment or related to the Houston Texans.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Do you have a best I have two? Go go okay?
My first one.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
You know how I feel about sting I love the dude,
I love family, I love just I love I love
sting He's fantastic and driving in. It was not long
after the combine and it was like, Wow, Derek Stingley's
just signed an extension to stay here. Now, I didn't
in my mind think that Sting was gonna leave. That
was not and I don't think and he he was
(02:18):
asked about it, and he's like, and I work itself out.
I want to be in Houston, but to sign the extension,
to be given the money, as humble, as quiet as
he is, and he just goes out and he performs.
And then I get here that day and he's out
in the hallway working with Nico and like thirty other
guys that are here, and I'm like, whoa this is?
(02:40):
This is different. So I I just I was so
glad to see him rewarded. I was glad to see
Jalen and Daniel as well, those guys being Houstonians.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That was That was cool.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
But you know, Sting's, you know, been my guy, and
I love him and I think everything that just watching him,
he's he's the best corner. I've seen what he can
do on a field. He's the best corner of the
league right now. And I think in four or five
years we'll be talking about, you know, hopefully a trip
to Canton. But gotta stay healthy. You got to put
(03:13):
a lot more years and in front. But just to
see him sign the extension now was really cool because
I love that dude.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I like the fact that Nick gets these guys done
early or at least early ISHU right, because what happens
from an organizational organizational standpoint, you are looking at having
to pay more later. Right, somebody's gonna beat your contract. Yeah,
if you're one of the first ones to sign.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
You know this as a player too.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
But they want to get it behind them and eventually
it'll all work itself out. So go ahead, sign the deal.
It's a very lucrative deal, great arrangement for both parts. Yes,
sauceage deals worth.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
More, right, but yuh, but the guaranteed money is more
for staying, so that's good.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, I mean, and that's what they really care about.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
It just depends are you looking at the backside, the front,
the top side down?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
You know, it just depends on how you look at
helped to play a decade plus and you get to
the third deal.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
But I think you know.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
JJ Watt has talked about this this offseason about how
players feel with extensions, and obviously his brother TJ was
going through it, and negotiations can.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Be weird and tough and all that, and it was like.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
This, That's why I think this extension, the actually the extension,
the all three extensions that were signed with Jalen and
Danil and Westing, they all happened well in advance of OTAs.
Even so it was like, you get your stuff done.
The negotiation doesn't have to get public. It's not made public.
(04:41):
And you look at as a juxtaposition, look at the
Cowboys and the Bengals right now. Oh, Trey Hendrickson just
put on just posted from his Instagram the sun fading.
Uh in Florida. He went back to Florida. He was
in Cincinnati. He said, screw this, he went.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Back to Florida. Wow, you get Jerry Jones.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I was talking about Michael Parsons like he's a criminal,
Like what we what are we doing here? So it's
like to see what this organization has done as it
pertains to extensions. I just I just appreciate the way
that handled it. Here's my second favorite moment. Okay, and
you and I do ninety seven point eight percent of
(05:24):
our off season radio together.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Everything right, everything except for your moment is gonna be
something without me.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
A small part on Saturday of the draft when Sean
was driving the show. You were here, but he was
driving the show as he always does, and the Texans
traded up and.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Went and got my guy, wood He Marks. Ooh that
was I was.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I was dumbfounded because I've been a big fan of
Woody Marks for a couple of years.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Went out to USC.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
I thought he had a good year rush over forral
one thousand yards and forty seven catches. I just loved them,
Mississippi State, what he's all about. I knew he was swarming.
I knew he was impressive of the Senior Bowl, and
I was just hoping that we you know, I don't
say we paid attention, but that was hoping that well,
like that made an impact on our staff, on our
personnel guys and the scouts, et cetera. So when they
(06:16):
drafted him, it was that, Okay, I was I was
right about him, I mean, right, wrong, whatever, But I
felt like there weren't a lot of people talking about
what he marks, and they were just like, he's gonna
go on the seventh round. He's gonna be a you know, undraft,
the free agent or whatever. I'm like, I don't know,
I think this guy's one of the top ten backs
in his draft. I was very convinced to that, and
(06:36):
I wrote about it on my draft site, football taker
dot com. I was like, when I did my rankings
the running backs, he was up there and it was
a really good draft for running backs, and so it
just they're selecting him. They're moving up to select him,
just kind of validated in my mind what I was seeing, Like, Okay,
I saw a guy that could come in and impact
(06:57):
right away, that was an early day three guy, and
saw it the same way. I love when those moments
come together. But I also thought, and I do think,
even though we haven't seen him in a training camp
practice yet, I still think what he marks has got
a future with this organization, which's gonna be very fun
to watch him grow.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
But those are those are my two. How about you?
What's yours?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Okay, So best offseason moment I think was Nick trading
out of the first round. That was, yes, now I
say this, look at the draft party because he got
out of the first round, and it was like, Okay,
I mean what we talked about this happening, right, he
(07:34):
might drop out of the first round, and then what
what are we gonna do?
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Right? Right?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Are we gonna move back into the first No, he
just got out. We're done, go home. Everybody drives safely.
We always hypothesized about that kind of night, that that
could happen at a draft party. But I think the
way it went down with the rainstorm as far as
the draft party itself goes, because that kind of cleared
out a lot of a casual fans, all of them
(07:59):
and he casual fan going down there to check out
the draft party. They were out, they were done that.
It was big. It was big. And we were talking
at the media party last night media reception with Reggie
and John and Reggie and John helping us bring the
gear into the George R.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Brown Convention Center. But the way it played out, I
always knew.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
This could happen with Nick Casserio, especially dropping out of
the first round, So that to me is memorable. Now,
I'll it's hard to say it's the best, but I'm
gonna call it the best.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
I'm gonna label it that way. All right.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Here's another category, Best of the off Season Awards, because
this is the last night of the off season.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
It is over as camp against tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Most memorable moment is there a memorable moment not necessarily
the best. It could be something really bad. Actually, it
could be something terrible that happened. I don't know, but
it's got a memorable moment for you that you will
take with you.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Sitting in studio and was just kind of working on
kind of getting ready for the show that particular day,
and got a text from our buddy Salcopaccio, silid reporter
for the Bills, and it just said they traded Tunsil.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
And I just remember seeing that and I was like,
I knew it.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
I had kind of felt like just the way the
season went and the extensions that had to be signed,
there's a financial component to it. There was, you know,
an overall offensive line performance component to it, kind of
a renovation to go into the house of offensive line.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
I wasn't totally surprised. And then it.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Becomes okay, Wow, this is going to shake the foundation.
This is gonna be talked about for a while. What
now is the plan? And then that followed up with
a couple of other moves. But I thought the return
that Nick was able to get back from the commanders
for Laramie was okay, Yeah. What I didn't want was, Hey,
(10:02):
DeAndre Hopkins has traded. What'd you get? You got a
bag of balls? Like, what are we doing? We traded
Laramie and you end up Okay, that's a pretty decent
haul back, Like I can I can understand it. Laramie
gets a fresh start in Washington and we got a
fresh start here in Houston, trying to revamp that that
offensive line. But I just remember seeing that text from
(10:24):
him and then my text and Mike mentions like what
is going on?
Speaker 3 (10:28):
What's happening?
Speaker 4 (10:30):
And I just had an inkling that that was gonna happen,
just kind of how everything went through the season and
how they wanted to reset that, and we talked about
it on the air. Was like the one component that
just kind of lacked that swarming ness consistently was on
the offensive line, and I felt like they were trying
to reset that. So if they had to go with
(10:51):
a player that's not as talented as Laramie, but they
could come up with a better group overall, then they
were gonna go do it. But I just remember when
that went down, it.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Was like, holy crap, they traded Tunsel.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Yeah, it was that kind of feeling at first, like
just immediately, and then I was like I can't say
I was totally surprised by it.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
It's true that the time you acquired Laramie Labor Day
weekend twenty nineteen and the time you traded him are
both so memorable. They were such seismic moments in the
history of this organization. And thank him for his service
absolutely winning how many division titles here when you look
at it, three very nice part of three playoff victories
(11:33):
as well. Thank you, Laramie for all that you've done
for the Houston Texans. And let's hope the offensive line
collectively gets a whole lot better.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
What's your answer that one?
Speaker 3 (11:40):
All right?
Speaker 1 (11:41):
So, for me, memorable is more personal, but it relates
to the fans because the season ticket member State of
the Texans event on the floor of NRG Stadium was
so memorable to me. Everybody was so loud. It's like
a rock concert. Introducing Nick and Tamico Ryance to the crowd.
Being able to be a part of that and watch
the reaction of people to Miko so charismatic. It's done
(12:03):
such a good job. The McNair's get so much love.
I mean, I love those offseason moments of Texans Love Baby,
because you're oh and oh, and so much hope and
optimism and excitement for the upcoming season.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
You know, then we have to start playing games.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
And sometimes those are angered, stress filled defense, right, and
they go well more often than not the last couple
of years. But man, oh man, I mean I love
that stress. I live for that stress. I live for
that conflict. You know, you want to have that you
want to have those dramatic moments, and we've had so
many of them.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
I remember when you back at twenty fourteen when you
brought me long did the sidelines and you're like, man,
you know we get to do Monday night football games
in Pittsburgh because that was where we were playing, and
it was just like that hit me at that point.
It was like wow, you be on the field, Yeah,
this is wild, Like okay, yeah, this is great, and
(12:57):
you're right. Like Thursday night games, you know, the Sunday
night game against the Lions, like that atmosphere was humble
because they bought they brought fans too.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
That was an unbelievable environment that night.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Just wish the stress ins uh, distress, but the stress
that goes with it, But the stressens Guy Garrett, who
tweets a lot and he uses a lot of our
content and thank you for doing that, because he repurposes
it and gives us credit and promotes it. But he
I think he posted recently, I cannot believe we lost
this game. He's posting a video from the game, and
I think it's from the Netflix. Uh, maybe it wasn't
(13:29):
from the Lions. Oh from the Quarterback Show. Yeah, he said,
I can't believe we lost, And it's one of those
games you can't.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
There's some games where how did we pull this out?
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Like Tampa Bay two years ago? How did we pull
this one out? They take the lead with thirty seven
seconds left. Well, with the Detroit game, how do you
lose this one? Picking off GoF five times and doing
what you did but unable to close the deal. Anyway,
we don't have to get it. I have to get
that was last season. That last offseason. So all right,
let's right, let's move forward. Let's do bet best Interview
(14:01):
of the off Season, Best of the Off Season awards show.
Folks on the last night of the twenty twenty five
off season.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Oh well, maybe your favorite for whatever reason, Well, you know.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
My favorite will always be staying because yeah, you was
in there. Yeah, you had a meeting, and so it
was just staying an eye talking and you know, his
family was in there with him, and it's just it's
such a I mean, it's such an awesome day. You know,
you see his parents, and you as parents, you look
at your kids and you hope that, you know, hey,
(14:32):
one day, not that they're going to sign a thirty
you know, ninety million dollars contract for three years, but
you just hope they're going to be good people, right,
They you know, have.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
A job, they like their successful brand and stuff.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, being rich and maybe being the best at their
particular position in the NFL. Maybe not, But it's just
it was getting a chance to talk to his mom
and dad and just congratulating them and how proud they
were and seeing the pride on their you know, just
on their faces for what that they meant. And then
a couple months later down to Costa Rica, just you know,
(15:04):
busting ass working out and that was just really cool.
But it's always with stinging. To everybody knows sting that
doesn't say a whole heck of a lot. But when
the two of us talk about ball, when we talk about, hey,
what happened on this interception, like when I asked him
about the type the first Tyreek interception where he on
the fourth down where he made the catch on the sideline,
(15:24):
which he didn't get off of credit for that catch,
but he took me through about two two and a
half minutes of why he thought that play was going
to go the way that it did, and just hearing
his thought process and knowing how smart he is and
what he's thinking about during a game. It was like,
that's my guy, Like, that's that's a football IQ and
(15:46):
then some and so sitting and celebrating the fact that
he's going to be here for another you know, three years,
you know, beyond the end of his first deals, rookie deal,
it was just it was really exciting. So that was
that was a fun one. And I'll give you the
other one that you and I did during media days
because we didn't know whether he was going to be back.
We had a thought maybe, but even banged up, he
(16:07):
was rehabbing and he signed really really late in the offseason,
and that was fully fought Acasi and for some reason
the two of us have just hit it off with
him and he's one of our faves and he came
in studio and it was like, you know, three long
lost brothers, like seeing each other for the first time
in a long time.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
It was just it was really cool.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
We had a good talk with him, and you know,
he's got you know, he's he's a proud New Yorker,
you know, but he's so he's so happy to sit
in the studio with us and happy to be with
his team.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
And he's the force we have needed in the middle.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
And even though PFF and their grades and all that,
I think is nonsense that he's really good against the
rum but I think he's really good for this team
and just the environment and the culture here. That was
a really fun interview when we got India that damn
media days.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Okay, So my best interview, my most memorable, best interview
Jayleen Petree when he was being honored by Stafford Juneteenth
celebration and the fact that he was Walter Payton Man
of the Year. Now, the need for this team, and
I just worked an event with him last week as well,
But that interview to me, just seeing the growth of
(17:13):
Petrie as a person, I mean, he came in here
the finished products compared to a lot of people as
a person you can just tell. And I talked about
the Dimico Ryans factor that he had that leadership. This
is way before Dimiko was ever hired here, thought to
be hired as a head coach. This is when Lovey
was coaching here. But I said that guy's like safety
Demiico Ryans, Jalen Petrie, and I love that he got
(17:36):
inked that he's still here. I loved that interview. Just
felt like home with him. You know that he's one
of these Texans that I hope is a lifelong Texan
and I always want to see him around this building.
Media days will be unforgettable because forty interviews. That was
a record for us in one day. And we're going
to air the last of those tonight because that's it
(17:56):
the off season's.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Oh, I know another interview too, What I know another
interview and he's one of our favorites, and that's Daria.
Yeah whatever Dares every time every time he comes in there.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
You know, we can throw anything at We missed another
one though, go on, we.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Can throw He could throw anything at him and he
he can handle it. But we asked him about, you know,
past protection being a third down back, and he kind
of took us back to guys that he had been
that it really kind of taught him, taught him the
way to do it. And he mentioned to Quiz Rogers, yeah,
is the nephew of one of my really good friends.
(18:35):
And so Quiz you know, and Quiz is like sting,
Quiz don't say a whole lot, but he's a smart
football player, has overseen He's like five six, but like
two hundred and ten pounds. He was like a moving
brick when they did. He was here with the Falcons
at twenty fourteen with hard knocks. Yeah, and I remember
my buddy asking him, like, so camera's following you, and
(18:55):
he just looked at him like, come on, man, you
know me, And so he just he avoided spotlight. Was
all about ball.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
He was.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
He's the greatest player at my high school.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
And so I always love Quiz and I just found
it ironic that it was Quiz that that Dari mentions
as being one of the guys that really helped him
out kind of learned, you know, the way of the fist,
if you will.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
And I just thought that it was really really cool
to hear that. But dark obrah Kai reference.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
It's funny because I just wrote, and I'm writing this
so make sure you guys check it out Houston Texas
dot com. So as training camp is going on, you
need a training camp primer. So I've split it up
an offense defense. Offense hopefully is gonna be posted today
defense in the morning. But I got I did it
by position. I got the running back. I almost pulled
Darry out in his own position because it's almost as
(19:44):
if I don't even count him in the running backs anymore,
because it's more than just the running back, Like it's
like the Darry position, like going forward. I feel like
the Texans, whether it's Daria Goombuwalle or you know, Darry
you know, eventually retires, like they've got to have somebody
that plays the Daria google Wally position.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Right, and what he marks might be a candidate maybe
what he is that guy You're gonna get the best
you always do, but you're gonna get even more out
of Dara. Yeah, if that's possible, right, because there's competition,
and we'll be talking about that.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
During our canals, I hope.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
So I don't know, Daria can't. I still is that
a factor though?
Speaker 4 (20:20):
You know what that not even however, That moment will
go down for me, especially because we won that game.
That moment will go down for me when I think about, like, oh,
special moments in this building, like that's a it's a
weird one because we want some playoff games here. We've
had some incredible moments in big games.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
It's a top twenty for sure. It's a top That.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
One is a surprise underrated top fifteen, top twenty moment.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Because you're right, they ended up they ended up winning
the game after trailing with thirty seven seconds, they ended
up winning the game. And it was the first really
magical day for Tamiko right right now. The Jacksonville went
down there was pretty magical because Jacksonville's coming off the.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Playoff win and they are the.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
AFC South favorites and you just throttled them at their place, So, hey,
what's happening here?
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Is this a playoff team? I knew we were going
to be better. Is this a playoff team?
Speaker 1 (21:10):
And then you beat Tampa Bay later and you're thinking, oh,
this could be a playoff team, but we're kind of
hovering around five hundred or so, and then obviously you
know what happened down the stretch. Uh, here's another category. Oh,
by the way, memorable interviews. Every time we visit with
Frank Ross.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Oh, I saw him today.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
I saw him to it. He told me that listening.
He said his dad listens.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
So he was in the car with his dad for
a long ride. He's like, my dad listens to you
guys all the time. Hello, mister Ross, thank you for listening.
So that means Frank was listening. But he enjoyed it
and learned a lot about the Texans. Now I think
he already knew all that he heard. So here's another
category for you, Best of the off season. Our last category,
best talent infusion in a position group. Now this is
(21:55):
multiple players, or it could just be one player added
to a position group. But what position group added the
most talent this offseason? What is your vote?
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Well, I was gonna thought this was enough to spit
one out, and then I thought of another one.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
A lot of this we're not gonna know until we see.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Okay, I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go with my
first thought, and it was what we were just talking about.
It was only well, I take it back, Well, it
depends on how you classify full backs.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
But I'm gonna go with the running backs.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Okay, because full backs camp, you add at full back,
you add Yakub Johnson, yep two hundred and seventy pounds, Hammer,
German Hammer.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
But then you draft Woody Marx.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
You think, okay, there's a lot of talk about adding
a running back during the draft. They add one with
Woody Marx, and you know how excited I got about that.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
But then last week OTAs they had Nick Chubb.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Yeah, and you're looking around room going, wait a second,
what if that dude is fully healthy.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
That's the biggest name acquisition, right for sure, it's the
biggest acquisition. If he's fully healthy. I feel like he
can have the biggest impact too. But it's just a
matter of you know, how healthy is how healthy is he?
Speaker 3 (23:11):
How do they have to manage he and Joe?
Speaker 4 (23:14):
And look, we don't know if Joe's gonna be available
for practice on Wednesday. And I'll be honest, I don't
need Joe to be ready to go on Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
I need him ready against the Rams, thank you.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
That's exactly what we need Nick need. They need Nick
Chubb to be ready for the Rams. But by adding
what he marks in the fourth round early day three,
adding Nick Chubb. You just took running back from well,
I think I know what running back is gonna look
like to This is gonna be a no holds barred,
you know, barbed wire match to figure out what they're
(23:46):
gonna do as it pertains to keeping position players.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
And I go back to this, this is gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
You watch fifty three man roster is gonna come out,
and they're like, they kept five running backs because they
will keep Daria Gumbowale, And I'll be like, no, they
kept four running back and then they.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Kept the dark d the Darry position.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Who's gonna play the daar Ah, I'm gonna go receiver.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
That was the other one I was thinking of because
that's the other one I was thinking.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
You're not comparing it to this time last year. You
got to compare it to what you ended up with
r which was half a season of Diggs, whatever you
got from Tank because he had injuries. Obviously Nico was
out five games. You're comparing it to that. To Nico,
I hate He's not a solo act. Okay, other guys
were playing receiver. They made plays. Your X had the
(24:32):
great play in the playoff game.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
All of that.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
I'm not gonna take away anything, but we know what
we're dealing with here. They added two draft choices, and
I can't tell you which one's gonna have more impact.
I would say Higgins, but no, looks really good. So
we'll see maybe neither, maybe both, who knows. But they
drafted those guys, and they acquired Christian Kirk and I
think and Watson justin Watson, so I think that's a
(24:55):
huge talent infusion into the mix. We don't know exactly
how that's all gonna look, but I'm really optimistic there.
I think that position group added a ton because the
others linebacker look health with Christian Harris would be great.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
H E. J. Speed. That's a pretty good one right there.
D Line, you get rankings back.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Good, okay, CHERYLD Taylor on the edge, Yeah, Darryl Taylor
on the edge is nice. Just having everybody back on
D line right at end is tremendous. Plus Taylor, so
that's cool. Maybe Horton turns into something we talked about
him the other day.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
O line, Yes, oh line.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Everyone's thinking O line right now as they're listening to this,
But we don't know what it's gonna look like and
I don't know if on paper it feels the same
as it does at receiver running back because you get
the big name Chub, you got what I mentioned at receiver.
But O line, if we're doing this show in February,
we talked about what was the biggest infusion of talent,
it could be the old line.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
When it's all said and done, we'll see.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
If we say that in February, then that means we
will have we will have gotten to the AFC Championship
Game or even the Super you think so, if we're
saying that in February, then then we will have gotten
that far.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
This is not tonight's topic. But I don't view it
as a failure. If you don't get to the AFC
Championship Game, you have to be able to get to
that level, and uh, you know, get there is getting
there is really difficult, as you know. I mean, you're
gonna have a hell of a season to get back
to the divisional round. That's that's how I look at Yeah, absolutely,
(26:28):
and I mean that's in any context, that's a hell
of a season. Now can you get past that? That's
the big question. We're all here to watch.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Yeah, and I think, well, you just got to win
that next game.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Like, yeah, you gotta get to the game to win.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yes, I mean that's it's that's harder than you would think.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
You can't play that game tomorrow, you can't play that
game in September, but think.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
About everything that has to go right. And everybody's like, well,
look at the Chiefs. Yeah, the Chiefs have done it
year after years, so it's a little different. You know,
the Bengals got there, you know, two years in a row,
and what have they done the last couple of years.
I haven't got back to the playoffs. Chris Ballard today
was up in front of the Colts media saying, yep,
we've been out of.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
The playoffs for four straight years.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
They've been out of the playoffs for four straight years.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
And he's still employed, right, So it's like, it's not
you have to have some breaks around here.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
If you've missed the playoffs for four years in a row,
Wait a minute, did we do that?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Now? We missed it for three years in a row.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
We missed it for three years in a row, and
it felt like a decade because you know, we're here
in the broadcast boots because they're still working on our studio.
We're looking at AFC South Championship banners. I know it's
not exactly like you know what's hanging in the rafters
of Boston Garden or the Staples Center or you know, Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Kingdom or New England.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
You know what you look at that that's a lot
of playoff appearances right there.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Over the last decade plus.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
ESPN is doing a Chiefs documentary called The Kingdom.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
I'm gonna vomit, like, can we stop this? Oh, I'm
gonna vomit, Like do we have to keep all the time.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
I won't even watch it, you know what, I'll watch
it ten years from now to be interesting, like, oh, yeah, look,
they were really good.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Oh watch it. I know you will. Do you just
tell me how it is. I'll count on your all.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Right, Tim Settle coming up next to m Jay Stewart
and who knows what else. As we continue here on
Texans Radio, let's get into some player conversations on the
eve of the start of training camp. Can't wait now?
Tim Settle is one of those guys who can't wait.
Big defensive lineman joined the team last year. Great to
(28:27):
have him back, and this is one of the interviews
we got during the mini camp portion of the offseason,
Tim Settle Johnny starts us off.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Tim, what year is this eight?
Speaker 5 (28:38):
This is your eight?
Speaker 3 (28:40):
You're eight?
Speaker 5 (28:41):
Dang?
Speaker 4 (28:41):
How is Tim Settle You're eight different than Tim Settles
a rookie.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
What's the biggest thing? Because I know there's probably a
few things, but what's the biggest thing?
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Probably you know, I feel like you're once turned into
you know, standards.
Speaker 7 (28:52):
You know.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Uh So I feel like you every year you guys,
guys have their goals.
Speaker 5 (28:56):
I don't have no goals. This year.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
My goals is to be one is my team, you know,
be there for my team and anyway my team needs me.
You know, I don't the status is gonna come with it.
So uh you know, anything I could be with my
team is if it's gonna be a leader, another leader,
be more vocal, anywhere I can help out. Uh, I'm
getting my body right, you know. This is my goal.
This is priority things. I just want to be the
(29:18):
best person I could be for my team. I feel
like that's what's gonna make us a better unit.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
As all, you know, watching the d line and offseason practices,
I feel like you don't get to tackle anybody, don't
get to destroy anybody up front. You guys are just
trying to sharpen the technique aspect of things.
Speaker 8 (29:34):
Maybe learn the system. You know the system, so tell
me about that.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
I feel like this this point of the year is
more about learning how to practice, you know, uh, you know,
we getting it. We're gonna get in such certain certain
situations where we're gonna be out of pass and we're
gonna have to go against each other and there's gonna
be up tempo. So this is more of like understanding
the tempo of what what they're calling, you know, knowing
how to practice, knowing how to go against the office
at a high at a high pace and just get
something from it.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
You know.
Speaker 6 (29:58):
It's a you know that's been uh coach's biggest emphasis
this year is just make sure we're here for a reason.
Make sure you're you're getting better at something.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
What is that one thing for you? Then to get
better at what? What do you want to say at
the end of the year, I got better at this.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
Being being more direct than this winning all the time.
You know, I feel like this defense kind of sets
us up to where we get it one on ones
and just utilizing every one on one chance that I have,
you know, and just being able to not make the play,
but just be effective, you know, uh quarterback face, you know,
hands on quarterbacks, you know this uh uh penetrating the line,
(30:36):
you know, being able to be sharp, just everybody being
detailed detailed in our Russian.
Speaker 8 (30:40):
Did you see the Metallica performance.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
Then they're uh tuned in into like an earthquake.
Speaker 8 (30:49):
Right yeah, yeah, registered on the Richter scale.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
I can only imagine that because nobody realizes, like when
you're walking down the tunnel like that, the tunnel was
shaking the whole time.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Everybody's being that tunnel man. It's just a real moment.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
But you know, it's like I can only imagine what
it was like there because like on game days and
you feel like I could, I know, it's way more intense,
you know. I feel like that's one thing they take
they have their prideful of out there Virginia Tech when
that that whole, that whole terance thing. But just the
fact that they had that there and that's that's epic
and I'm just I know it was something to be
there to the witness, to be able to enjoy that.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Along those lines, Tim in the playoff game against Los
Angeles against the Chargers, what was that environment like during
that playoff game?
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Especially?
Speaker 4 (31:35):
I remember the back to back sacks after I think
a fuel goal and I think Danil got one and
then Mario got one, and it was like, of course
Bukonki took the next one to the house. But that's
side the point. I felt like that place is as
loud as I had heard it at that point. What
was the environment like for you and for the players
with the crowd the way it was during that game.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
It was a real moment, you know. Uh, And I
feel like, you know, how we think of it, like
our our our defensive coaches and how they emphasize things,
you know, like we could take this game over, and
you know, I feel like, you know.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
We were we were we were playing real poise.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
And we're just we're just in a groove and like
I feel like, you know, everything that were the attention
of details of that we could practice of this, like
knowing what we were going to get and and when
we were getting it and we were like meeting it,
Like it was a real moment. It's like because we
was going over this and everything was just clicking, and
like when things clicking, it's like it's a it's an
(32:29):
unreal energy. It's like it's contagious, it'sous energy. So I
just feel like, you know, when once, like once one
thing gets going, it's like, man, it's like you get
to the point, was like, I gotta make a play.
I gotta make a play. I got to make a play.
But it comes to you, you know. Uh, everything's hand
in hand, you know. Shoot, the place is there for
us to make We just gotta make up, all right.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
So the d line, We've talked a lot about the
chemistry you guys have, the camaraderie, is it the players?
Is it Rod Wright? Is it a combination of things?
And I know Nate's no longer here, he's in Atlanta,
So good for him. The barman's got him a good job.
Speaker 6 (33:00):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (33:00):
And now you have Franko Camp coming in Jackson.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
So what about all that.
Speaker 6 (33:05):
Man, Well, a big shout out to Rod and frank
Uh that that combination right there is lethal. You know,
this is with the knowledge and experience that they both
have giving it to the room. Like it's stuff that
they say now that I haven't heard before, that that
I can relate to stuff that I can relate to,
and it's like, dang, it's like, but he knows that
as a player. You got two players that play coaching
(33:27):
like that, everything just changes. But the energy they bring
it it's consistent every single day. They don't matter what
it is. And you know, like we have a standard
that's high in there and they don't ever go below
that standard. And I feel like that's what keeps it up.
You know, they high energy every day like and it's
like this every day is a competition.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
That's they make it fun.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
It's gotta be. Everything should be a competition. So it's
much fun, more fun that way. Okay, are you getting
away for a little bit, But.
Speaker 6 (33:52):
That's that's more the weekend stuff. And I'm here. I
gotta I feel like I didn't work so hard to
get to where I'm and I am now. I feel
like that that little that little break is what really
can determine your great season into an average season.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
So you know, I feel like how to.
Speaker 6 (34:05):
Just put the put the uh pedal, put the pedal
to the metal and just keep going.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
So wait, you just said the break between mini camp
and training camp can determine what kind of season you have. Wow,
because too many guys might and not on this team.
Speaker 6 (34:17):
But just I feel like, I mean, I don't know
how everybody is, but I feel like this time. You know,
you got you off for five weeks. You trying to
do something. You're trying to enjoy yourself. You know, you're
trying to turn up a little bit like this. They
wants you to do that, you know, so make it
harder yourself. So, I mean, anybody experienced with well know
like this, this is a ton of dolland. You know,
work on anything that you need to work on to
get you right for the season. Any any tweak, tweaks, anything,
(34:40):
bumps or bruises, get it right, because I mean we
had our time. We had our time to have fun.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
I got one more O line. Do you see? I
know we have a new coordinator.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Cole takes over as the offensive line coach, the headman
in charge. You see anything different up there? I mean,
I know you're like packed in, So what do you say?
Speaker 5 (34:57):
I definite see it.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
You know this this is overall, this is a scheme wise,
you know, I feel like, you know, uh, it's more
like they look more of a unit, you know, they're
more looking seeing you know. Uh, I feel like the
new new offense that we're gonna run this year is
gonna be beneficial for them. You know, I'm I'm excited.
This is like everybody else. You know, we go against
some were seeing it. Definitely, it's a big difference of
(35:18):
what we did from last year. But you know, I'm
looking forward to seeing it against another team.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
You know.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
Uh, definitely give us, definitely have hope, and I definitely
definitely love what I'm saying, especially from the defensive side
of how the offense is operating.
Speaker 5 (35:33):
Now.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Thanks a lot for there's Tim Settle now a guy
who has meant a lot to.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
This team over the last few seasons. M J. Stewart
always finds a way to make the big play in
a key situation. M J.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Stewart caught up with us in the Hundai Texans radio studio.
Like the way things are going, says, the young Bucks
are certainly a force to be reckoned with.
Speaker 9 (35:54):
These young guys are coming in hungry, you know what
I mean. Uh, young guys coming hungry every year. But
is like this, this this group of guys like they
they they want to add to our team, you know,
what I mean, we already have a you know, a
great team in my opinion, but the young guys are
just going to add so much more dynamic talent.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
How many years is this for you?
Speaker 3 (36:12):
MJ? Eight?
Speaker 5 (36:14):
Eight?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Yes, eight years? If you could give rookie year MJ.
Stewart advice from going into his eighth year, m J. Stewart,
what would that advice be?
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Uh, take care of your body. Take care of your body.
Speaker 9 (36:29):
Your body is your that's that's your y's your vehicle,
that's your masterpiece, you know, so you got to take
care of it from rookie year, you know what I mean.
I waited probably until like my second or third year
to really get into hone, in into like my body routine.
But like if ould of did it from rookie year,
I probably it's probably been a lot better.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
What's the toughest thing to not eat? What's the toughest
thing to give up? Favorite food? That if you could
have a cheap food or whatever. If lad would say, hey,
you go out and neat whatever you what's it gonna be?
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Mj'm a wing guy. Chicken wings. I love wings, bro.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
You mean those aren't good for you?
Speaker 5 (37:06):
They work for me. They work for me. I ain't
gonna lot to.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
You as you go into your eight MJ.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
You've seen you've played a lot of different positions, you
had a lot of different roles. So as you get
ready for year eight, what's the biggest thing for you
that you kind of go through both mentally and physically
to get ready for your season.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Just just having like mental clarity, you know what I mean?
Speaker 9 (37:30):
Just uh, just right before the season, man, just you know,
obviously training obviously, get my body ready, but getting your
mind ready to you know what I mean, getting your
mind ready setting I guess your goals for what you
want your season to look like, how you want your
routine to look like, and things like that that da'tuer.
Speaker 8 (37:49):
A recreational thing you might do prior to training camp.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Uh, I want to go play pickleball?
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Be careful.
Speaker 9 (37:57):
Yeah, I know you like yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, so
I've been playing this whole off season.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Man.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Okay, have you ever played spike ball?
Speaker 5 (38:06):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Now that will get you in.
Speaker 8 (38:09):
Is there pro spike ball?
Speaker 2 (38:10):
I think there is, but theose dudes are ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Theres pro pickleball.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
I'm sure you've seen that, right, Yeah, are you thinking, Hey,
you know what, when this is all said and done,
pro pickleball is a possibility.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
They put in the Olympics. I do it.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
So all right, let's go there. Let's talk about that
for a second.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
There's all all this about flag football and twenty twenty
eight Indian Olympics. What do you think, I mean, would
you want to do it? How different are the two games?
I don't even know if you've played flag football. I
know a lot of guys haven't. They start playing tackle
football with the little kids and that's all they play.
What do you think about flag football and NFL players
in flag football in the Olympics.
Speaker 5 (38:48):
I think it's a great idea, man.
Speaker 9 (38:50):
I think it's it gives h you know guys a
chance whoever gets you know selected. I think it gives
guys a chance to explore this world, explore different countries,
different cities, so you know, get the experience with the Olympics's light.
So I think it's a it's a great chance for
you know, guys in the league to you know, get
out and explore.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
And it starts in the United States too. It's so
that's not a bad thing.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Anither, what's been your favorite either team or individual moments
since you've been here. All right, I know you've Tampa Bay, Cleveland,
all that, But what about here with the Houston Texans, MJ.
What's your most memorable moment or situation here with this club?
Speaker 9 (39:27):
Uh? Man, it's it's been a lot, but it'd probably
be And I wasn't. I don't even think I was.
I was there, because I was, I think I was hurt.
But when we played Cleveland in the playoffs, just how
loud it was, you know, when jac got his pig,
(39:50):
Christian Harris wouldturning that, you know he returned it for
a touchdown. I could feel the energy and feel how
loud it was like through a TV. And so like
like I said, even though I wasn't there, that's probably
one of my my favorite moments.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Okay, So let's talk about a moment from last year.
Come out of the bye we played Miami Dolphins. Move
the ball, Okay, but now we got a punt and
a big play is the fake punt and you take
the snap, you flip it to Darry coming back the
other way when that's called. Because you've been the personal
protector here for for years, and it's probably no secret
(40:30):
Mark and I get to see practice. Sometimes we've seen
you do any number of things as the personal protector.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Now it happens. Now it's called.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
It's actually called in the game, we're running this fake punt?
Speaker 2 (40:41):
What are you thinking?
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Can you take us through that play where you guys
run that that will reverse to Darry it gets a
big first down.
Speaker 9 (40:47):
When he said to me, I was kind of like,
we really, like, we're really going to do this, you
know what I mean, because like we all we we
want to do like yeah, like the guys on the
punt team would love to do fake puns. Yeah, we
want to do it all the time. You know what's
the game we can't do it, but we would love
to do him all the time. So when I went
to the huddle and I told her, guys, they was
like you serious.
Speaker 5 (41:09):
I was like, yeah, come on, let's go.
Speaker 9 (41:11):
And then it's like everybody's mind was like, oh yeah,
we're definitely you know, we're definitely converting this because we
have faith in each other.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
And I mean they they weren't expecting it at all.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
So okay, and other teams don't be watching this. We're
not gonna do it again.
Speaker 8 (41:26):
Don't worry. It's never gonna happen again.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
MJ. Thanks a lot for joining us.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
We appreciate it, appreciate it. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Always fun to visit with m J. Stewart.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
That was background mini camp. I saw him this morning.
He's raring to go. Let's go tomorrow. Training camp gets
under way. One more segment tonight, we'll check in with mister.
I scored two points in a playoff game and the
Charger kicker didn't know what was going on. D'Angelo Ross.
He's next year on Texans Radio. Final segment of the
off season. If you missed our off season awards that
(41:55):
was in segment one. That'll be up in podcast for
him soon enough. D'Angelo Ross plays dB for this team.
Scored two points in the playoff win over the Chargers.
It all blocked extra point. He was able to run
it back because it didn't cross the line of scrimmage.
We'll talk about that among other things with di'angelo Ross.
Got to be back, all right, Great to see you
and tell me about this dB situation. You find a
(42:19):
way to make plays to make yourself useful no matter
what the situation.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
And now you're out there again.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Off season seeing all these bodies you're making plays.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Tell us about how it's going so far in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 7 (42:30):
Yeah, I mean, I mean it's going well. It's just
it just motivates you every day when you walk in
the room and you got like all the you got Sting,
you got Kamarai, you got Klin, you got Peachtree, like
the list goes on, the young guys that come in.
So it just motivates you don't want to make a play.
And then we're all like we can't even walk the
hallways without talking football, like, or we're texting each other,
or we're sending each other clips on films. So it's
(42:52):
just a it's a competitive environment. It makes you just
want It makes you want to be the best that
you could be.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Dangelo.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
You also obviously contributed specialty I want to go back.
You had two special teams moments in the playoff game
against the Chargers, the first one and I literally just
watched the highlights of it last weekend. I don't I
just popped up on my feet. I'm like, you know,
I don't feel good. I want to watch this and
I forgot about you blocking a punt?
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Yeah, how long now?
Speaker 4 (43:18):
Unfortunately because the ball went out field. You get I
don't think you get credit for a block punt.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (43:24):
I think I do get credit, but it just it
doesn't it's not as pretty because you want, like you
wanted to go the other way and you want to
score with it.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
But either way, how long did it take for you
to kind of I want to say master because the
timing of how you came in to block that, that
takes some timing, It takes work. How long did you
kind of take before you kind of got it down
and the timing down to then use it at that particular.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Moment against the Chargers.
Speaker 7 (43:50):
Yeah, I mean it's probably like years in the making
because it was a there's another game, might have been
our second game against Tennessee, our first game against Tennessee
here at home. Yeah, two years ago, and I came
in and I was free, but I missed the blockab
my hands straight up in the air. I had never
been got practiced it. But once you're in that moment,
like you're you get kind of like deer in headlights.
(44:10):
But it's like years and it's a couple of years
in the making, and then every once in a while,
Frank will be like, the corner roll is up, Like,
so we'll practice it. I'll watch it on film, get
the timing together. It's it's tough to time, but Frank,
Frank does a good job of giving me landmarks, giving
me cues. So like, I just trusted it. Both times,
I've trusted it. So I've had two I've had like
three attempts at it. Two I've I've had a chance.
(44:33):
So that's a good good ratio right there.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
The feeling of scoring two points, but scoring in a
playoff game.
Speaker 7 (44:41):
Yeah, that was that was a that was an amazing moment,
awesome moment for me and my family, family's in the stands,
just and then just for us as an organization. The
text and just weird. That game kind of felt weird
and then things just started happening, and that was just
another thing. It was a weird thing. You don't see
two points scored, but it was just it was a
cool moment. I think I don't even think the fans
(45:01):
cared if it was two or six, but it was.
It was just fun all the way around.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
Well, what's interesting about it too is I watched it
and then I watched you Because initially when you come
through on the ball, the ball's block and the ball's.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Kind of bouncing around over here.
Speaker 4 (45:16):
It's over there, it doesn't look like anybody kind of knows,
like what's happening.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
And then all of a sudden, the ball ends up.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
I think Dicker tried to pick it up or whatever,
and then the balls up in your head.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Then you knew what to do.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
You knew to take off, like, hey, I can go
get two points with this.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
But it was like, initially it looked like everybody's just
kind of looking around like what's gonna happen until Dicker
got hit.
Speaker 7 (45:35):
With the ball and then you took off. Yeah, it
was just it's a weird moment. If it lands on
on the on their side, you'd think like pick it
up and run. If it lands on our side, usually
want to leave it alone. But yeah, you know, either
way on a two point conversion, it would have been nice.
If it was a field goal, that would have been
that would have been crazy. But yeah, yeah, but he
should have knocked that thing down. He got made a mistake.
(45:56):
I think it was Neville because yeah, that's.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Right, Neville bury him. Oh that was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
I was reading about a one point safety possibility where
if you return that let's say somehow you fumbled at
the one or something, they picked it up, tried to
run with it, but you tackle them in their end zone.
That's a one point Safety's take that to Frank and
see if he knows.
Speaker 7 (46:20):
That, I don't know, you might have you might stump
them with that one.
Speaker 3 (46:22):
Okay, you can impress it.
Speaker 7 (46:23):
He goes through all his situations. Yeah, So what is it?
Speaker 2 (46:26):
What's it like Gasloe with with Frank?
Speaker 4 (46:28):
I mean, he's such a high energy guy all the time,
but it always feels like he's still no matter what,
all high energy guy, whatever, he still feels like there's
a pretty good plan that he puts forth in special
teams for that week. I mean, I think about the
Charger game and just a different the impact of special
teams all over the field in that game. What is
(46:48):
it like, you know, working with Frank and get ready
for a game.
Speaker 7 (46:51):
Yeah, it's like what I always say, like what I
tell people, it's not enough, like we're special teams. It's
a it's a unique unit, it's a unique side of
the ball. So you it's but it doesn't do enough
to just go out there and pump the ball or
go out there and kick off the ball. Like Frank
wants to make up play to help the team win.
And when when you make up play on special teams,
your your chances of winning just skyrockets. So that's his goal.
(47:12):
And I know how much time he puts into it
because he's texting me at nine o'clock at night, ten
o'clock at night on a Wednesday. Really, Yeah, it's showing
me clips, showing me what like, what it looks like,
what's the plan for the next he's texting everybody. Yeah,
So like that's just the time that he puts into it.
And I think we all take that, we all take
that to heart. And I when I go out there,
I don't I don't just want to be out there.
I want to make a play.
Speaker 1 (47:33):
As a guy's been in the league since twenty nineteen,
what is the secret or a couple of things that
are really key in being able to thrive in the
NFL for year after year.
Speaker 7 (47:45):
Yeah, I think it's just making yourself useful. I mean,
if you're not great at if you're not the best
all time at one thing, you gotta be good at
a lot of things. So you got to be useful
and then just something that I like, what I pride
myself on or what I preach to other people is
like these coaches, they spend a lot of time telling
us what we do wrong. So just don't come in
the next day and do that again. It seems like
(48:07):
it's simple, but it's just don't make the same mistake twice.
Like if they tell you something's wrong, fix it. And
then it's just taking that one day at a time,
one week at a time, of mastering one thing because
you cannot you can't get it all. Like this game
is so like there's so many facets of the game.
So just mastering one thing and once you get that,
go to the next thing.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
So that's good life. I just like the way I
just like the way you said it.
Speaker 7 (48:30):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Don't do that anything again. Yeah, just don't do that again.
Speaker 2 (48:35):
That's so yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
Deangela, thanks a lot for joining us.
Speaker 7 (48:37):
Good luck, Thank you guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
There's D'Angelo Ross and there's the offseason training cap starts
tomorrow morning.
Speaker 3 (48:43):
We're on the air at eight sean and seth at six.
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
It's football time in Houston once again. Area forty five
is coming up. Go Texans,
