Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's happened? Everybody?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Welcome into a Friday edition of Texans All Acts, says
John Harris, alongside the voice of the Texans, Mark vandermir Mark,
how you feeling on Friday, less than forty eight hours
from kickoff in Duvall County against the one in one
Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
How you feeling?

Speaker 4 (00:17):
As we've covered many times, my feelings mean nothing, that's correct.
I've read so much into them incorrectly over the years. Johnny,
I feel pretty good about this one.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
But so what.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Yeah, I think they intellectually, I think they're ready. They're
a better team than the Jaguars. Play like it, act
like it, be like it. Get out of there one
and two and take it from there. Yeah, this is
so crucial. Obviously, you're in the division, you're on in two.
We all know the situation. I'm not gonna use the

(00:49):
term must win game, but this is a gotta get
it game.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Gotta get it?

Speaker 4 (00:53):
How about that? Better than must win? Say gotta get it?
We gotta get this one, So go get it.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I was gonna ask you if if you felt the
must win. I've never liked must win, but given what's
seemingly at stake a road game.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
So you got eleven game winning streak on.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
The road in the division, which is amazing, amazing to
think about that span three coaches.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
We're almost four.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Years, almost four years from having lost a game in
a division and it was in twenty twenty one at
the Indianapolis Colt Jonathan Taylor were crazy Beata's thirty one
to three. After that, two wins in twenty one, three
and twenty two, three and twenty three, three and twenty
four and hopefully the first win in the season, the
twelfth in a row on the road in the division

(01:42):
against the Jacksonville Jaguars. So we got plenty of people
that we're gonna talk to you tonight. You're gonna hear
from Jamiko Ryans, You'll hear from a few times tonight,
and it's always great stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
We love having to be gone.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
We're also gonna hear from Danil Hutter, who sat down
with our good friend Greg Bailey from ABC thirteen. Jonathan
Alexander is gonna join us from the Houston Chronicle. Dino Vasso,
cornerbacks coach, is gonna sit in studio and we'd love
to we'd love to talk about DB's with Dino, but
he's a Philly guy, so we always get into some
Philly stuff with him.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Motown Philly with Dino Vasso.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I'll give my predictions a little later in the show,
and obviously we'll hit the injury report, who's in, who's out,
who is going to be ready to go, And I'll
give you some of my quick keys to the game,
and Mark and I will have our game preview a
little bit later in this segment. But Mark, we're going
on twelve times of winning on the road in a division.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
But here's another one. I did not buy the numbers.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
You can check it out at Houston Texas dot com.
So really good kind of buy the numbers nuggets that
it's funny. Seth Payin admitted last week that they do
it by the numbers segment.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
He goes deal it from you.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
He reads what I write that he he spends it.
But at least he was honest about it. And I
don't mind. Seth's a great friend. Seth and I were
trading text Tuesday night. I got home and I just
sat down on my surface and my little Exos remote
and I went for like three and a half hours,
and I fell back because I was just I was
sending a bunch of text to Seth every time I

(03:09):
saw a play on the defensive line that I didn't like,
and unfortunately I sent too many of them. But he
takes something to buy the numbers. So we in Jacksonville
since twenty fourteen. That's come my benchmark because that was
my first year in the sideline. And also we lost
in twenty thirteen. We've all lost one time in Duvall

(03:31):
County since twenty thirteen.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
In twenty seventeen, twenty seventeen, and we got scold drug
that day, we got destroyed as one of the most
beautiful December days you ever gonna.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Seize the practice squad receiver who was living in his
car and Jaydon Mickens, that's him, Jaydaen Mickens.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Killed us, Yes, destroyed us. Bort was having a day.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
And you know what I thought, all right, get it
out of your system today, Jaggs, go ahead, have your
way up.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And they also did at home here.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, and this one I was reminded of just scanning
the all time series, ye that they drilled us bad
in twenty twenty two, twenty.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Twenty two, oh seventeen also, well, that was the opener.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
That was the birth of Saxonville. Remember that that was
Saxonville Sacks. Yeah, that was Duval Saxsonville.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
All that.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
But twenty twenty two, the final home game of that season,
That was the game before they beat the Colts when
everyone wanted them to lose.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Not everyone, but a lot of people. Maybe everyone, I
don't know, but a lot of people.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
And thirty one to three was the count Jags beat
the Texans here in a year where the Texans was
it the week before, played the Kansas City Chiefs in
overtime and stopped Mahomes in overtime, a year when the
Chiefs won the Super Bowl incredible, played the Cowboys super
close up there, unable to win. So that Texans team

(04:51):
played a lot of close games. That wasn't one of them.
Look the Jacks. So the Jacks point to that. They
pointed to the win here in twenty twenty three, twink
off the crossbar Madam Mendola. But they won, Okay, the
Jags just lost a game where things went wrong in
the field goal department for them.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
So yeah, twenty seventeen. Twenty seventeen was a rough year.
For us to get to Jaguars. They took both of them.
And I remember in that game. In that game, TJ
Yate started and I thought, Okay, it's Jacksonville.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
We win here a lot, let's go.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
And then the first drive of the game, I think
he got sacked twice, and I remember we got to
a break and I remember saying, you guys like, we're
in a lot of trouble today, guys a lot. And
it was one of those December and I because I
lived there, I experienced a lot of them. A December,
no cloud, sunny day, about sixty degrees, gorgeous, and they

(05:47):
are just pummeling usumbling. I mean, play Portals is doing
whatever he wants. Jaydaon Mickens is making plays and we're like,
who is this guy? And then we went back there
the next year, and the next year is effects known
as the Deshaun on a Bus game went down there.
We start zero and three, we win three in a row,

(06:07):
I mean, dicey, but we beat Indiana in overtime. Dallas
is one of the great games I've ever seen. It's
it's still to this day, the most physical game I've
ever seen at Ergy Stadium. It is I remember hits.
I remember Layton Vandersh hitting DeShawn like right at the
sideline in front of me and hitting him, and I

(06:28):
was like that man has a family late and like
come on, dude.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Like they both sides were, I mean, just over time.
So we win that game.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Seawn's got to spend a week in hospital, basically, don't
know if he's gonna play against Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Buffalo is the next game.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Jjo wins it with the pick six at the end
off Nathan Peterman.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
So now we're three and three.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
We go to Jacksonville and Jacksonville started off that year
and they beat the Patriots, if I remember correctly, and
everybody's like, oh, look at what Jacksonville is gonna do.
Oh boy, not so much. And then we went and
put it on them. Yeah, hop had that one hand
catchdown the sideline, the far sideline in that game, and
we just kind of put them. Andrew remember Andre how

(07:11):
got so shouted. Andre Howe was playing his first game
coming back from cancer. Pick six and oh no, is
that that wasn't the pick six?

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Can be? The photo with that was twenty sixteen or
twenty fifties.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
A lot of wins down there, John and that was
one of them that twenty eighteen one you were just describing.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
It has to continue.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
This has to continue, this victory binge, this victory feast
that you have in North Florida. Got to find a
way to get it done. So, look, I don't want
to talk about owen three and with the team. The
only team that's done it oh and three make the
playoffs in the last twenty five years is the Houston Texans.
Nothing's impossible. I'll never right off the season. I've seen

(07:50):
this team two and five when the AFC South, seen
it happen. Personally, never going to write off the season.
But let's get this one. Let's not even worry about that.
Let's not talk about that, let's not speak it into being.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Well, that's not That's one of my other numbers.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Texans are Since twenty fourteen, that's when I marked time
twenty there have been three times where the Texans have been.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Owing two and made the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
All three times not only made the playoffs, but they
won the AFC South.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Well, that's the only way that Texas have ever mased
for the playoffs exactly. Never a wild card. We've never
been wild cards. Weird the Texans were going to be
a wild card in twenty twenty three. But thank you
so much Titans and Vrabel's last game. Just rolling gives
being those Jags, gives us a give oh so nice,
gives us a gift so sweet.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
So yeah, the three years of Texas been Owing two
to start the year since twenty fourteen. Again, that's when
I marked time, because that's when I started the sidelines.
Twenty fifteen start Owing two one Division nine to seven.
Twenty eighteen fIF started Owing three, finished with the second
best record in team history with eleven and five, and
then twenty twenty three started Owing two famously beat the

(09:06):
Jags in Week three. Jags looking forward to going to London,
look past the Texans and Texas someth them pretty good.
Thirty seven seventeen Andrew Beck kickoff return, Will Anderson Junior
blockfield goal, Tank Dell deep ball that led to Damian
Pierce one yard round touchdown. Tank Dell like sixty eight

(09:26):
yard touchdown to seal it at the end.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
That was That's one of the I was.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Thinking about that day as I was driving up here
today Mark up to the studio.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I was thinking about that day in what that locker
room was like.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
And I always imagine what a winning locker room is
going to be like, Oh, what's winning locker room going
to be like today? I always imagine what the winning
locker room is going to be like. When we went
at divisional playoff round, you know, game and one AFC
Championship for the first time, and I remember I wasn't
mentally in the greatest spot.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Oh, I think we're gonna play well today as Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Just that is all of a sudden, we just come
up firing, we got things clicking, guys are open, we're
scoring points like it's looking good. And I just remember
when it's over thirty seven seventeen and we'd had such
a tough twenty twenty two that I remember going to
the locker room and I just, I mean I was

(10:22):
I was almost ready to bow my eyes out. I
just remember how much energy and how much joy there
was in that locker room in Jacksonville. I think a
winning locker room Sunday there will be joyful, but it
will be more kind of a sigh of relief.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
If we're able to get this, it'll be joyful.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
It'll be joyful.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Yeah, you have to respect this Jags team, not that
you don't.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
No one has to respect the Jags because this is
a different Jags team. They have different things in mind.
They have a new regime leading them. They felt like
they should have won last week at Cincinnati. They've got
new weaponry. I think this is gonna be a real
tough one. And you mentioned looking forward to London two
years years ago. Well, they're not looking forward to London

(11:02):
right now. They're looking forward to beating the Texans. This
is full focus for them. They're they're not looking past anybody,
especially this team. They are ready to rock on Sunday afternoons.
So you're gonna have to bring your best. And you know,
we talk about all the wins over the Jags. It's
not like they just hand you these victories. I mean
that game two years ago was real dicey. And you know,

(11:24):
it is weird when you think about the twenty twenty
one win was one of the most memorable ones ever
down there because it was such a terrible season and
it's December and it's COVID and you know, we uh,
we had a little the night before we saw Wait
who'd we see the night before?

Speaker 5 (11:40):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Who? Rick Flair Rick Flair. We saw Rick Flair now, No,
not yet. I'll wait a couple more years to tell
that story. It's a good one though, But to see
Davis Mills and company pull that one out, and that
one of the rain especially, it was a special win
because that Jaguar team had some hope to it. You know,

(12:03):
they had some high hopes going there in Trevor Lawrence's
rookie season, and Urban was gone by then, but they
wanted to get the Texans because they were this is
not a good Texans team.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
We're gonna get this one.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
We're finally gonna snap the streak, which at that time
was already too long for their liking.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So yeah, streaks division it's here.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
I love this because no matter what NFL team you
root for, when you play games in your division, they
are more special. Look at Buffalo and Miami last night.
I turned it on late.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Oh, Miami's up seven to nothing.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
Okay, that's exactly when I turned it. Should not be surprised.
And you know who else wasn't surprised? The head coach
of this team. It's the NFL. Baby, don't be surprised.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
It is the NFL, and that head coach is Damiko Ryans,
and he sat down with the man of my left,
Mark Vandermiir right here.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Okay, Coach Jacksonville obviously very familiar to us all, but
this is a new version of the team.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
What is different about them and Watson his.

Speaker 6 (12:58):
Version of Jaguars. Think Liam has done a good job
putting this imprint on it. Really Defensively, they're flying around. Offensively,
they're playing fast, So I see a much more.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Faster team this year this time around.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
And they're they're detail, they're executing the right way, They're
doing exactly what they gotta do. And so it's gonna
be a tough battle for us and what we got
to play fast and we have to finish.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
It's not like they didn't want to run the ball before,
but they seem to be recommitted to that with this regime.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Now that's the thing.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
It's run, run, run, and they're gonna keep running it right,
So we have to do a really great job of
stopping the run.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Hurt us last week.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
We know that we have to play better up front defensively,
really got to reset the line of scrimmage so we
can swarm on the second level. But we know it's
gonna come down to the run game and the screen game, right,
that's where we have to be really great versus that.
If we handle those two, think will be in really
good shape.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
What about blocking their edge guys when you're on offense.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
Yeah, they present a lot of problems with their edge
guys their entire front, right, they do a multiple looks,
whether it's fire four down, double mod, there'll be a
lot of different fronts. So it's gonna stress our communication.
We have to make sure we're on it getting out
of the huddle, get to the line of scrimmage, everybody
being on the same page with the communication on where
we're going, we can pick up what they're doing.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
We just got to be on the right page.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
You're getting a couple of guys healthier again in the
past catching department. How's it been working them in during practice?

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (14:20):
Really excited to see Christian Kirk step up. It was
he had a really good week of practice. You see
the explosiveness to speed definitely jumps off when he's out
on the field. So giving CJ another playmaker that can
work really all three parts of the field. So I'm
excited to see that connection come to life on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
In general, you saw improvement week one to week two,
but not the victory. Do you feel like you took
good steps in practice this week building up to week three?

Speaker 6 (14:45):
For sure, we took really great steps, great strives. Fill
Our guys are getting better, right like you said week one,
week two, it is better, and we focus on the process,
and we know you continue to focus on the process,
you handle it the right way, then the results will come.
And the time is now for the results. So let's
go get it done.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
And do you feel like special teams can be a
real weapon for you? A real positive?

Speaker 6 (15:07):
The way our special teams showed up last week was outstanding.
They gave us a chance right to come back and
win that game. And I'm excited to see them continue
to build and off of what they did last week
and continue to make more plays. Jalen Nole as a
return guy, really showed some promise there, so I'm excited
to see how he continues to flourish.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
You're playing outside really for the first time. I know
LA is short of outside, but this is really outside
of Jacksonville. What about that part playing on grass?

Speaker 5 (15:32):
Yeah, playing on grass will be great. I think it's
always better to play on grass.

Speaker 6 (15:36):
But for JAXX being in Jacksonville, I think just being
outside the warm weather right in that atmosphere.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
We practice in it all the time, so we.

Speaker 6 (15:44):
Know it to be warm, but we're looking forward to
what we're used to it, so it'll be a good
change up for one time just to play outside.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Coach, thanks a lot of good luck, Thanks Martin, great
stuff there, Tamika Ryans, and of course Mark vandermir Greg
Bailey for maybe see thirteen who will ride with us
to Jacksonville. Got a chance to sit down with the
hundred sack man, daneil Hunter.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Now, depending on what stat you look at, the.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Official or unofficial, danil Hunter is either the forty sixth
man to get to a hundred sacks or he's this
sixty seventh And if you're in the car, your kids
just went six seven. Yeah, Danil is that man. Daniel
caught up with Greg Bailey right here.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
I know from talking to you many times, individual accomplishments
are not your thing, and yet one hundred career sacks,
you're one of the fastest to reach that milestone. Given
a few days to think about it, how do you
feel about reaching one hundred.

Speaker 8 (16:41):
I mean, I'm just thankful, you know, being able to
be able to reach that milestone, or obviously it wasn't
by myself. Thankful all the coaches and all my teammates
that helped me get to that mark. I wouldn't have
been here with Alvin, So thankfu for that. My family
and everybody told me reach this milestone.

Speaker 7 (17:00):
Along the way has to include Morton Ranch. I've asked
you before, man, how big was the dream back then
when you were a high school football player in the
Houston area, just trying to make your way.

Speaker 8 (17:10):
Honestly, I was just thinking about just making it to college.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
You know.

Speaker 8 (17:13):
I wasn't really thinking about playing in the NFL or anything.
My biggest goal was just to make it to college
when I was playing with one Ranch.

Speaker 7 (17:20):
And you made it and then some so much goes
into this. Will Anderson really laughed with us and talked
about the dedication that you had, particularly to diet.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Why is that so important?

Speaker 7 (17:32):
How strict is that to get you in position to
where your body can go out there and perform on
game day.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
I think it's very important, you know.

Speaker 8 (17:39):
Ever since like my injury a few years ago that
really had me focusing more on my health and my
diet and just getting that much of an edge on
the opponent, just making my body recover better and all
that stuff. And I brought that here teaching my defensive line.
You know that if you do a certain thing or
like eating a certain way, it'll help you put It'll

(18:00):
help you put you on the edge, you know, going
against your point.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
I heard rule number one is eat your vegetables.

Speaker 8 (18:04):
Oh yeah, I had to teach him. He had a
different diet when I came here. So he's better now.
But you got him on track.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
All this stuff being said, there is a task at
hand to go in and handle Jacksonville. Where's the focus
for you guys defensively against the Jaguars.

Speaker 8 (18:19):
I feel like the biggest focus is just focusing on
our fundamentals, you know, you know, having that mindset of
just focusing on us doing our technique, doing our job,
and counting on the god next to us to do
his job. That's the biggest thing, you know, just going
out there with the mindset of just doing our jobs.

Speaker 7 (18:35):
Some of your teammates have used the term leaky yardage
against Tampa. Some tackles that maybe could have been made
how big of a focus is that this week to
shut things down when you get that first opportunity.

Speaker 8 (18:45):
I mean, like I said, it just goes back to
the fundamentals, you know, just going back to your technique
and just doing your job and then executing the game plan.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
How do you like the way you and your teammates
have handled the oh to two start. I know it's
not where you want to be, but there's a long
way to go.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
I mean there's a lot of lessons to learn from it.

Speaker 8 (18:59):
You know, the game that we've lost, we've lost by
just making some simple mistakes, and we've won in the
film room and we've we've reviewed it and where we've
learned from it. So the biggest thing is just like
I said, going out there and just going matrof fundamentals
and just going with the game plan.

Speaker 7 (19:12):
We look forward to seeing you in Jacksonville. Man, good luck,
thank you, thank you, thank you, Man, thanks Mane.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
All right, excellent stuff from those two.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
But when it comes to game previews, nobody does it
like the two of us.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
Market's time for our game preview.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Starving for a victory.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
It's not the first time, Johnny, that the Texans have
taken a trip to Jacksonville in desperate need of a win,
and that is the situation this weekend.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yeah, two years ago. Now, that was a different Jaguars team.
In his sets, they were still one in one, but
they were coming off of Chiefs law lost to the
Chiefs and they were going to London right after that.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
And I remember listening to a press conference, no one
question was about us. They overlooked the Texans and they
admitted it at the end of the year and they're
still paying for that a couple of years later.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Now all the talk.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Is about Houston coming to Jacksonville, a ziz al Shire
coming back to the scene of the head and all
that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
But be careful what you wish for. Just be careful
what you wish for. It's a Jags team with a
new coaching staff.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Trevor Lawrence obviously still there. How do they look different
right now to you? Through two games one and one.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
A faster, be much better run game, much more dynamic
in the run game.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
And I just think.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Overall, explosively offensively, they look different. Diamie Brown just gives
them a vertical threat. Travis. I think Travis is gonna
get more involved in this game. My gut tells me
either kind of lying in weight, almost like Tank Dell a.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Couple of years ago or a couple of years ago.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Tank It had a good ballgame against India, but it
was like he broke out in that game. I got
a feeling that Travis, this is the game that they're
kind of saving him for now. Could be weather, de Pennant,
could be wet, that could be an issue, could be rainy.
We'll see, but those things stand out. They're more explosive,
they're faster. I think defensive line is more cohesive. They've
added Hainesy at center and maccariot guard, so I think

(21:07):
that's made them a little bit better up front. And
last year when we went to Jacksonville, I remember Cam
Robinson had been traded. So they're trotting out Walker little
left tackle, and Anton Harrison and right tackle, and they
shut down Will Anderson junior Danil Hunter.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Yeah, shut them down.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
No sacks, but the Texans obviously won won a game. Yep.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
And here you go with the Texans team that's trying
to solidify things up front.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Still look for rhythm, look.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
For execution, look for protection and really get the passing
game clicking a bit of a step forward with the
offense from week one to week two. Need a big
one going from week two to week three.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Let's get there.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
Three things to look out for in this one, and
I've got one for you right here, Trayvon Walker, Josh
Heinz Allen, those guys on the edges. And we talked
about this last week with the edge of Tampa Bay
a little bit, but we were talking about Vita Baya. Well,
I'm still concerned about the interior rush of the Jags,
but now you have these two demons on the outside,
and Walker is living up to that number one picking

(22:00):
the draft building. Maybe not to the extent that they
want to, but he's coming around, Johnny, He's coming around,
kind of like Mario Williams did.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
He's coming around as his career progresses.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
I think the fans want him to have twenty five
sacks every time he goes on the field, and that's
not like that. He's become a really good player. They
got a really good player at number one.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
They did passing Aid Hutchinson, they did pass on Derek Stingley,
they did pass on Sauce Gardner to be able to
get him. So he's having to live up to a
pretty high standard. But that said, I agree with you,
those two guys can definitely get after it.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
I'll give you.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Something to watch, kind of like the same lines when
the Texans got in third down the other day against
the Bucks. The other night against the Bucks, that opened
up the blitz packages for Tampa Bay. Now we don't
quite know what Campanelli is exactly gonna do with his defense,
but I would imagine, as a new coordinator, when you
see something that some other team did and it was successful,

(22:51):
you follow that.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
And so I would imagine we get in third down,
we are.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Going to see blitz.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
We have got to have better options available ToJ. Stroud
so that if he gets blitz through now and get
a first down, our guys can't be running fifteen twenty
yards down field.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Win's third seven.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Somebody's got to be working at sticks and give CJ
an option to get the ball at that point.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
All right, here's another thing, Travis Etn. You brought him up.
Etn's running the ball well over two hundred combined yards
in the first two games. And this isn't a year
where a lot of people were leaving him on the shelf. Mentally,
they were thinking Bigsby's the guy. They bringing a couple
of new guys. This is not going to be the
year for Etn so far.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
It is the year for him.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
He's having a renaissance or he's finally coming into his own.
You better find a way to contain him and this
running game, like you said, because if you don't, we
don't even get to talk about Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
We need Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
The Texans do to make errors in this game, like
throw you some picks for the first time.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
That would be nice.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
That'd be great to get the first pick of the
season or two or three in North Florida. But you
don't get it without stopping Etn or at least slowing
him down.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
And I'll take Demiko Ryan works from the other day
when I asked him when he drove home where he
thought about after the game. What was kind of gnawing
at him? And he said, tackling. Yeah, Etn will break tackles.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Tudent is thick, but he's fast. He will break tackles.
The tackling's got to be short.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Up three yards can't turn in to twenty three, the
biggest play of the game or one of the other night.
Bucky Irvin catches that that platform, that checkdown route and look,
he's gonna shake people.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
That's what he does. He's out in space.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
But he ends up with a game of about twenty
five that should have been twelve. And those thirteen extra
yards came as a result of just not tackling. So
you can't give up those hidden yards to the Jacksonville
Jaguars running backs. And because if you don't tackle one
of them, particular Tutin I, he's four to three, two
in the forty, he gives one, He's gone, do.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
You have one more thing? And they have three things
to watch. We're into ideable mention category.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
I do because he's al Shire.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Oh how does he respond?

Speaker 2 (24:57):
This is gonna be really interesting because this is they've
been talking about this for a long time. They've been
talking about him for.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
A long time.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
They every time his name is mentioned, there is gonna
be a course of booze. They're gonna be out for
blood in a sense, and so they're gonna have a
ze's and defense gonna have to channel their emotions and
just let their.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Games speak for themselves. Yeah, and that's gonna be tough.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
But if you're as physical as you always are, just
make sure you're doing it and not pushing the boundaries
of fifteen yard penalties and all that, because you may
not get the benefit of the doubt going back there
the second time.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
All right, Special teams is another one because two years ago,
what you get Beck kickoff or charge a touchdown, block
field goal Will Anderson Junior, right, And on Monday night,
what did you get a really great special teams performance
from jal and Nolan in particular block pot as well.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
I mean, come on, this.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Is gonna be really big if you can get those
kinds of things to happen. And had the Texans beating
the Buccaneers, we'd be talking talking about this as a
special team to win, probably based on what happened in
the fourth quarter alone.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
So that's my thing, all right, Matros.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Farm Sleeper of the Game, brought to you by Mattress
from the official sleep partner at the Houston Texans.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Who do you got?

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I'm building off of what you just said about special teams,
Jalen Nole. Now we don't know the status of Christian
Kirk at this point. Hopefully he is gonna be able
to play either way. With Jalen Nole back. In the
return game, he had two massive kick returns and then
he had the incredible punt return.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
You just said it.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Andrew Beck's long return, the special teams winning the game
for you in a sense down at twenty twenty three
because of Beck's return, because of Will Anderson's blockfield goal.
This might be one of those opportunities for Jalen Nole
to get loose, make a play, make a big play
on a return. I don't know how many receptions or
looks he'll get, but I feel like there's a way
to get him involved in the offense a little bit too.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
But Jalen Nole is my.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Sleeper of the game from by two years ago.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
You said rookie Tank Dell had his first really big
blast in that game at Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
I like Woody Marks in this one.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
Okay, what March showed you a lot on Monday night,
He's going to show you a whole lot more on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
In North Florida.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
The rookie will be heard from early and often in
this game. That's a bit of a prediction for you.
Can't wait to see what happens Texans at Jags Noon
kick Sunday, Go Texans All Right.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
A guy who does a great job with his game
previews as well as Houston Chronicles, Jonathan Alexander.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Jonathan will join us next.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
We'll talk this one obviously, and we'll go around the
NFL and get his thoughts on some of the main
things happening in the NFL, including Chiefs zero to two.
Is that a dream or is that for real? That's
next on Texans All Access. What's eep and everybody, welcome
back to a football Friday right here on Texans All Access.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Appreciate you being with me.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
John Harris, your host football analysts Sideline Report, looking forward
to traveling to do all County love going to Jacksonville.
Lived there for seven years in fact, at my first
coaching job, actually my only coaching jobs there in Jacksonville.
Worked at a few of the schools that were there.
The school I was there mainly was Episcopal, which was
on the other side of the river. So you could

(28:09):
see that if you're sitting in section four forty something,
just look over the look over the edge and you'll
see a beautiful school on the other side of the
river that was that was home to me. It was
where my son was born, is where I met my wife.
So Jacksonville means a lot. But since I've been putting
on the logo, I want to beat Jacksonville probably more
than any other team, especially because there was so much

(28:29):
noise about this team this offseason. Travis Hunter is gonna
be this transcending player. He's gonna set the course for football.
He's gonna be this god of football, as James Gladstone
put it in Look, Jeffs's a hell of a player.
He's a hell of a player. But dude's been playing.

(28:51):
They were playing both ways. Back in the forties, Sammy
Ball led the league in passing, in interceptions all in
the same year.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Imp Hunting.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
I think it's been done before. We just haven't done lately.
You know why, because bigger, stronger, faster. And we'll see
what impact Travis has on a game on Sunday. I
got a feeling they're gonna go to him a little
bit more in the next uh. In the next segment,
we'll go through our quick keys to the game and
give you the injury.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
Report for what's happening.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
But before we get there, it's time to talk to
our guy, Jonathan Alexander. For last a couple of years,
Jonathan's been joining us on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to
give us his thoughts, let us know what he's been
working on. He's got a great article that you need
to read that he worked on. I think it was
last week. He wasn't there at practice on a Friday.
I thought it was weird.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
I'm like, mayhre's Jonathan, He's slacking and realized no, no,
he went to the Hill Country. He was working on
a story.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
And he's working on a story with the Texans involved.
So that was pretty pretty cool. So, uh, he'll tell
you about that right Well, not right now. I'll tell
you about that at the end of the interview. But
we got a lot to talk about with Jonathan Alexander
right here with.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
Us in the Hyundai Texans Radio studio. It's Jonathan Alexander
from the Houston Chronicle and Jonathan here. We are going
two not where we wanted to see the Texans be
after two weeks. How bad is it? How good is it?
What's going on in general? Your thoughts?

Speaker 9 (30:13):
Yeah, I think overall it's not terrible, but the offense
just doesn't look good in my opinion, I think, you know,
when you consider who they played against, whether it was
the Bucks or the Rams, both really good teams, playoff teams.
It was a one score game for both. But the
offense in two weeks just hasn't gotten going. I think
they've got to figure out a lot. And maybe that'll

(30:34):
happen when Christian Kirk comes back, and as this offense,
you know, continues to play together in this new system,
maybe it will get better.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
But right now I just haven't seen it. Okay, one
thing to fix it. You're in charge.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
You can do one thing, one thing in your mind
that you think maybe fixed the offense, but fixes the offense,
what would you do?

Speaker 9 (30:57):
I do think Christian Kirk could potentially play a big role.
I think one of the things that I've heard in
regards to why the offense isn't working is obviously a
lot of the pieces that they rolled with and training
camp hasn't been there. Like CJ had developed a really
good connection with Christian Kirk, right, and he's a smart player,

(31:17):
a veteran player who knows, you know, maybe how to
make a certain adjustment. Seems like CJ has been playing
with the two rookies, and it's been a little bit
slower coming along with those guys.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
I do think Christian Kirk's.

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Veteran leadership and his ability to hit plays downfield or
really what's going to help them. But they've also got
to cut back on those penalties in secks that caused
him to get in third and lost situations.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
Absolutely, those are a bit of killer two for nine
and third downs each of the first two games defensively,
end of the game against the Buccaneers, had a chance
to close it out, couldn't do it. And against the Rams,
they got the ball back on the takeaway, couldn't get
it back to that last gasp potential drive for the offense.
But what do you see it overall on that side
of the ball and what can be better?

Speaker 9 (32:02):
I think the defense has been solid when you consider
the situations the offense has put them in. I mean,
last week against the Bucks, the Bucks ran seventy two
plays to the Texans forty seven. I think it's really
impossible to expect the defense to be perfect. They literally
could have been off the field had maybe Henry toe
To had just slowed down.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
A little bit and may Baker Mayfield run past him.

Speaker 9 (32:28):
It wasn't totally his fault, but we could be having
a very different conversation, particularly about the defense, had they
just gotten that stop there. I think the defense has
really been playing lights out. There are gonna be times
where you get beat, especially when you consider offense like
Sean mcvay's offense and the Rams and the Buccaneers offense
with they've been high powered. I don't see that as

(32:48):
a problem. Now, they do have to fix a little
bit of stuff. Secondary has been a little bit leaky,
but I don't think they've been the problem at all.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
The Buccaneers running backs ran for one hundred and thirty six.
I think it's one hundred and sixty nine if you
had in Baker's That was the one issue I had. Okay,
well I'm going so okay, keep that in mind. The
Jaguars are the number one rushing offense in the NFL
with Travis DTN and also base Shall Tuton from NCAA
and t and also Vergin Tech. How problematic is that

(33:18):
that they're struggling to stop the run, But then they've
got to face this offense with Travis CTN and Tooting.

Speaker 9 (33:25):
Yeah, we know that's probably the one thing that could
get a Texans defense beat is if they don't stop
the run. Because historically they've been a really good run
stopping team, dating all the way back to Demico's first year.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
Yep.

Speaker 9 (33:39):
I think they were six that year and then top
five or six last year as well. So that has
been historically been their emphasis to do that and then
make teams beat deep. So I think they've got to
continue to do that. We know that Jaguars team can
rent it extremely well. I saw a lot of the
issues being tackling. There's a lot of arm tackles, not
wrapping guys up. I do think that's an easy fix.

(34:01):
I think if you if you keep them off the field,
if the offense stays on the field longer, they're not
as tired and not not thinking as much that you
have to continue your fundamentals. You have to wrap up.
So I don't foresee this being a bad problem. I
do see them getting a lot better this game against

(34:21):
the Jaguars and stopping the run.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Jonathan Alexander joining us from the Houston Chronicle. All right,
Johnny mentioned it the Jags number one running the football.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
What about this Jaguar team?

Speaker 4 (34:30):
How much better are they they could have, would have,
should have against the Bengals, and you're looking at a
team that's frustrated about that one and one coming in.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
What do you think?

Speaker 9 (34:41):
Yeah, I think when we look at the Jaguars last year,
a lot of you know, the issues they had with one,
they couldn't stay healthy.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Two.

Speaker 9 (34:49):
I think Doug Peterson's offense had become a little bit outdated.
And now you get Liam Cohen, one of the better
offensive mind comes from that Sean McVay system.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
You know.

Speaker 9 (34:59):
I asked Demiko about this, what's the biggest difference you
see in this offense from last year? He said, there's
still a lot of quick passes, which we saw with
Doug Peterson, but they like to hit the explosive plays
and hit the shots downfield, and that could be a
little potentially dangerous. I think the Jaguars are right in
line and with the Colts and the Texans. I think
the Texans are still better than those teams, but I

(35:21):
don't think that they're far behind. Then you add a
guy like Travis Hunter who can also do some things.
So I think the Jaguars can be a dangerous team.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Yeah, definitely dangerous, and they're definitely faster defensively with the
Jaguars or Lula kun Is. I say back, I last
year was kind of in and out of the lineup.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
I think that helps.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
They've completely reset the secondary for the most part, getting
Tyson Campbell back, but other than that they kept Jerry
and Jones. Everything else is just changed. And then they
add Travis Hunter to that. But Eric Armstead is the
guys who we kind of playing well for them. How
good defensively do you think Jacksonville is? They held Carolina
to ten, I'm like, all right, but then they gave
up twenty seven to Jake Browning and the Bengals, who

(35:59):
that same defense face two years ago on a Monday
night having to win the game to win a division
basically and lost it and Jake Browning beat him again.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
What are your thoughts about the Jacksonville defense?

Speaker 9 (36:10):
Yet, they don't necessarily scare me as a defense now,
they do have pieces Walker Allen ye Hinds Allen, yep,
heins Allen gave Laramie Tunseels some problems last year, so
they do have pieces and guys who can wreck games.
But as an overall defense, I think the Texans can

(36:31):
have their way if they play really well, so you
got to give them respect, but it's nothing to be
in my opinion, to be scared about.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Okay, what about the Colts though? Are we to be
scared of them?

Speaker 4 (36:43):
With Jonathan Taylor running the ball well, went for one
to sixty five against the Denver defense that's supposed to
be good and Daniel Jones so far so good for them.

Speaker 9 (36:51):
Well, I think that's more so of the X factor
than Daniel Jones is for the offense. I think getting
Jonathan Taylor back to where he was when he was
that NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He's just running
with the two hundred and thirty four yards I think
leading the league. He's just just killing it and making

(37:11):
that engine go.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
He's what makes an engine go.

Speaker 9 (37:13):
So I think he is a problem in what should
be concerning for the Texans because they already have a
two and zero lead. I think eventually Daniel Jones will
have some breakdowns, but right now, as long as Jonathan
Taylor is playing as well as he is, that that
offense should do well.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
The Kansas City Chiefs are two or zero and two
trend or an aberration. Now I realize they lost a
couple of good teams and Chargers out in Brazil and
then the Eagles at home.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
I get it, but trender aberration.

Speaker 9 (37:43):
I think the Kansasity Chiefs are still a playoff team
that's still going to be dangerous in January. However, I
do think that they're declining and I don't see them
being a super Bowl team until they re up with
some new pieces. I continue to see them trending down, all.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
Right, declining like that. What about the Buffalo Bills. They're ascending. Yeah,
And let me read you this schedule. After the Dolphins
game Thursday, it's the Saints, Patriots, Falcons, Panthers, and then
they get the Chiefs November two. They've got some would
be smooth sailing in the next few games, and then
down the stretch a little tougher, I guess. But they

(38:20):
get the Patriots later again because they're in the AFC East,
of course, and the Cleveland Browns, and they caught the
Bengals maybe with a good year, so good for them,
because they got Browning playing. And I don't know if
the Bengals are gonna be any good down to stretch.

Speaker 9 (38:32):
Yeah, I don't know if the Bills are going to
lose more than two games this year. They've got a
favorable division first of all, but they're really good. Josh
Allen is playing at the top of his game. He
is confident. Their defense I think is shaky and could
give them some problems against some of the better teams,
they'll lose a game, but that offense is playing at

(38:53):
an extremely high level.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
One of the things we were watching or looking forward
to watching prior to the season was the kickoff rule,
the touchback at the thirty five in particular, and how
that would affect things and all the returns. What do
you make of it so far, not just with the
Texans games, but watching the league at large.

Speaker 9 (39:10):
I can't remember which game it was, but somebody they
led a U a kick guz Burn Steelers.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (39:17):
So you know what's funny. I actually knew that rule.
I was years ago. I was playing Madden and uh
I was a little kid. I was like one of
the better Madden players. Kicked it and the guy I
was playing against left it in the end zone and
I dived on it, so I knew it was a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
So I don't know how, but they.

Speaker 4 (39:31):
Changed that for a while it was not a live ball,
and then it became a live ball against.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
That popped up in our playoff game with the Bills.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Remember that it was it was Angela.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
Carter was back in the back in the end zone.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
The ball landed there and he walked away from it,
and they fell on it, and basically they said that
Carter had I don't know that he had accepted it
was down in the end zone, but that you're right,
the rule had changed. But I remember that a Bills game,
like we're gonna get it was six nothing already.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
I'm like, we're in trouble. Wow.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
And then the alternate ref who I don't remember who
it was, came in and said no, no, no, no, no, that
was down Texas.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Get the ball to twenty. Good ball to twenty, Jonathan,
what do you have going on? To the chronicle for us?

Speaker 9 (40:14):
I wrote a story recently that I love people to
check out. The Texans went down to Texans Texas Hill
Country to give back to the residents at Kerrville in
Kerrville and some of the surrounding areas. But I wrote
a lot about the perspective of what the town has
been going through and how they've used high school football
and the help of a lot of some outside organizations

(40:36):
to heal.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
So please check that out. All right, Houston Chronicle dot com. Jonathan,
thanks so much for joining us.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Great catch up with Jonathan. That story is fantastic. You
definitely want to go check it out. Filanthropic efforts of
the Texans continue as they ventured into the hill country
and there are all kinds of I think it was
Toro who was putting out videos and so on Instagram.
Is very very cool to see the mcnairs, Andre Johnson,
all of them there and Jonathan capture that story very

(41:06):
very well in the Chronicle. All Right, we get back.
The injury status report is out. We go over it
every Friday. However, this one may not take long, and
that is some good news. We'll talk about that next
right here on Texas All Access. All right, here we go,
Football Friday coming at you. Texans All Access. Love being
with you on a Friday evening, everybody. Hopefully you're in

(41:28):
the way to a high school game. I don't know
if there's a college game that's going on that I'm
not thinking about that's happening, or you're just out to
see high school events or going to a movie, or
you just got in your car or just turn on
the podcast just to hear us talk about football.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
So appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
I'm your host, John Harris, football analyst, sideline reporter for
your Houston Texans. And we got to that point in
the program where we have to always go over to
the injury report because Friday, for a noon game, the.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Status report is key.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Who's in, who's out, what's been going on with practice,
all those kinds of things We've got to do right here,
and this is actually one of the better injury reports
that we've had in a while. I mean in a long,
long while. I don't know I can remember this this
early in a year or at any time. There are

(42:21):
only three players that have a designation combined combined in
this game. Now, the Texans side of it, I'm kind
of blown away. I don't think I've ever seen this.
The Texans have one player out now it ends up

(42:41):
being a key player because of special teams, because of
third corner status, and that's Jalen Smith. Jalen ended up
and I believe it happened in the game because Wednesday's
practice is when we first saw his did not participate
hamstring and that continued all week. He did not participate
in practice. He is ruled out. He is the only

(43:05):
one with a status. That in turn is great news
because three guys that missed last week in two guys
that have missed the first two games that people in
fact were counting on, have no game status, which means
they're in. That would include Jake Andrews, who started at

(43:26):
center in the game against the Rams, Braxton Barrios, and
Christian Kirk will be playing his first game in Week
three against his former team. Now that does sound a
little familiar. It did to me when I thought about it.
I'm like, man, I feel like I've I feel like
I've heard that before. Twenty thirteen, Ed Reid Week three

(43:48):
went back to Baltimore. Now, that did not go exceedingly well,
large part because Ed hadn't really been doing a whole
lot up to that point. He'd been over to side
field getting himself ready, and at that point he was
pretty much out of gas, and.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
It didn't go well.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Now, it's not as if he didn't play well against
the Ravens, but overall overall didn't play well in that game.
That was the first of fourteen straight losses. Back in
twenty thirteen. Regardless, Christian Kirk has been working with CJ.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
Stroud.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
He had the hamstring pop up going into the first
week against the Rams, missed the Rams, missed the Bucks,
but he is ready to go. Kamari Lassiter, Jalen Petrie,
Darryl Taylor had dings in the game against the Bucks.
JP went out of that game late in the second quarter,
went for halftime, came back out, played the rest of
the second half with a rib issue. He's gonna be okay.

(44:46):
Kamari had a knee. The key with all six of
those guys, Jake Andrews, Braxenberrio was Christian Kirk, Kamaria last year,
Jenlen Petree, Daryl Taylor, They're all full participants in practice today.
That is massive news. So everybody outside of Jalen Smith.
So does treymont Smith step up as the third corner?

(45:07):
Do they bring up D'Angelo Ross, do they bring up
Miles Bryant? How do they handle this third corner situation?
And that is gonna be key against the Jaguars because
the Jaguars can go eleven personnel with Brenton Strange a
very good pass receiving tight end and then put Travis Hunter,
Brian Thomas, Diami brown out in the field, and it's

(45:27):
gonna be tough. If you want to play man to
man against them, that's gonna be kind of tough. So
gotta figure out who that third corner is going to be.
Maybe it rotates, Maybe Treymond plays outside, Kamario goes inside.
They did that a little bit, uh the other night
with Jalen Jalen Smith would go outside, Kamari went inside.

Speaker 1 (45:45):
They did that for a little bit.

Speaker 6 (45:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
I can't It was not a lot of reps. It
was pass like sure pass situation type reps. So that
definitely something to keep an eye on it. So we'll
see who ends up making the elevation on Sunday. My
guess is Jack of Johnson has been doing some great thing,
so they could they could move him up and actually

(46:09):
sign him to the fifty three man roster and then bring.

Speaker 1 (46:11):
Up two other elevations.

Speaker 2 (46:12):
We'll see, but I got a feeling one of those
elevations from the practice squad is gonna end up being
a d'anzel Ross or a Miles Bryant on Sunday against
the Jaguars. Now the Jaguar side Ezra Cleveland is their
starting guard.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
He is questionable with an ankle. He's been limited.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
He was limited on Friday, did not participate on Wednesday
or Thursday, so he is questionable.

Speaker 3 (46:39):
God tells me he's going to try and play.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
That's what I would think.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
Out is Whyaett Milem rookie of its alignment. That's a
big loss. Here's not really a part of what David's
line has been doing. I think he can be eventually,
but just not now. So questionable. Ezra Cleveland out, Wyatt
Milem in full participant today in practice. Brian Thomas Junior,
there's been a lot of speculation about his wrist. Last

(47:03):
week after the game, Liam Cohne was questioned about Thomas's
desire to go across the middle for Bucky Brooks on
with Seth on the Belief podcast had a great comment
and he's like, look, they're asking Brian Thomas Jr.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
To do different things than he did last year. Going
across the middle.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
Is that's something that Brian Thomas did a whole lot
last year at LSU. He was kind of the slot
fade guy. He was at nine route, That's where he
was going. He's kind of the same thing with Jacksonville
last year. It paid off a lot. Now he's going
across the middle. He's doing some different things and his
game has been altered a little bit, so there's some
of that. I will say this, if he has that
in the back of his mind, I don't know if

(47:40):
I want to go across the middle. This is not
the group to have that feeling, because this group will
light you up.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
And you know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
Okay, we get back.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
We got to catch up with Dino Vasso, cornerbacks coach
for your Houston Texan's bed. A great conversation with the
Philly native next right here in Texas All Access.

Speaker 3 (47:59):
Man, we got three hours for you tonight.

Speaker 2 (48:02):
I will carry you up till eight o'clock and then
Marco take you through eight to nine.

Speaker 3 (48:07):
We got plenty for you in the second hour. Appreciate
you being here with me.

Speaker 2 (48:11):
How Texas All Access John Harris, your host football and
a sideline reporter for your Houston Texans. And one of
the things I love about this coaching staff is the continuity.
Guys that have been here for a little bit, They've
seen some things, They kind of fought through some tough years.

Speaker 3 (48:26):
Back in twenty twenty one to start.

Speaker 2 (48:28):
Kind of moved through, had a couple of really good
years the last few years, winning the AFC South, and
a couple of roadbumps to start this year. But coaches
that we're here starting in twenty twenty one, they they struggled,
but they got through and they worked at it and
became better coaches. And one of those guys is Gino Vasso.
Ni Vasso was a heck of a coach when we
got him here, and I think he's just gotten better

(48:50):
and better and better. And you could see in the
play of the cornerbacks on this field, on this team.
They got there in the battle. And yes, Derck stinghmy
junior is wildly towned. Yes Kamara Laster is an incredible
football player, but the instruction they get from Dino Vasso
has definitely helped them as well.

Speaker 1 (49:09):
Dino stepped into studio with us.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
And we had all kinds of things to discuss, talking football,
of course, but he's a Philly native, so food is
gonna come up.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
You know, he's got he's got some thoughts.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
So let's talk about him right here with Dino Vasso,
cornerbacks coach, with me and Mark.

Speaker 4 (49:28):
In studio with us. It's Dino Vasso, Cornerbacks coach for
your Texas coach.

Speaker 1 (49:32):
How's it going great?

Speaker 10 (49:32):
Thanks for having me, guys.

Speaker 4 (49:33):
All right, So, how's preparation been for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We won't get into the record or anything yet, but
you've got a tough task this weekend getting your guys
ready to face Trevor Lawrence in company.

Speaker 10 (49:43):
Yeah, they present a lot of issues. Obviously. We know
the trio that they have as receivers, starting with Brian Thomas.
He can win at all three levels. Elite speed, game
changing speed. I know he's struggling right now, so to speak,
but he had one of the better rookie years that
I've seen in recent memory. So he's gonna he's gonna
provide a lot of challenges for us. And then moving

(50:05):
on to the honor rookie. The rookie he's provided a
lot of things for them moving around the slot. Obviously,
he can do a lot with the ball in his hands.
And then they got a couple guys that can that
can run Damy Brown number five again, another game changing
speed for them over there.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
I know speed is gonna be one of the things
we talked to the Miko about that, We talked to
Nick about that.

Speaker 3 (50:24):
They kept bringing up fast and speed.

Speaker 1 (50:26):
I'll talk you about traps Hunter.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Because the guy that's played some and then not, and
then some on defense and kind of all over the place.
How does that impact preparation for them and him knowing
he could play every play over a wide receiver, he
plays some a wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
How do you kind of plan for a guy like.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
That that does have that speed, that that ability, but
he's a rookie and then only three games into this
whole sort of experiment thing, if you will with him.

Speaker 10 (50:54):
Yeah, I'd say there's a little bit of unknown there,
but I think you prepare like he's gonna play full
time on the offense. Obviously I don't coach offense. I
don't have to worry about him on defense, but yeah,
you prepare like he's gonna play every down and when
he's out there, he obviously presents some challenges.

Speaker 4 (51:10):
Coach, when your corner is blitz on occasion, how does
that work coaching wise? You discuss it together, and I
know you're coaching them individually, but all right, now you
have this different assignment here, but we have to watch
out for what happens behind you because somebody might be open.
How do you go about all of that?

Speaker 10 (51:25):
Yeah, it's all within the structure of the defense kind
of it's built in. We don't have a lot of
true corner blitzes. But if the formation maybe dictates that
that the corner can blitz their MI scenario where he will.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
Are they begging for it?

Speaker 10 (51:38):
Sometimes I want to go, yeah, you could probably imagine
which guy wants to blitz.

Speaker 5 (51:42):
Yeah, blitz.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
But we got about that one.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
So yeah, coach talk about receivers obviously DB's but got
to start quarterback Trevor Lawrence last year, face them here,
face them a little bit in the game in UH
in December that we saw him. What have you seen
through the first couple of games of Trevor and what
kind of problems does he present against your guys?

Speaker 10 (52:03):
Yeah, I've always thought he's out of talented arm Obviously
he was taken in the draft high for a reason.
Can make a play with his legs, can playoff schedule.
Seems like he prefers sometimes the playoff schedule, which obviously
presents some issues for us. We got to cover him twice.
We got a plaster so doing some of the same
things that he's done in the past. I'd say a
lot of the throws are inside the numbers. Hasn't had

(52:26):
a bunch of success outside the numbers, but we've seen
him make those throws throughout his career. But yeah, a
lot of a lot of inbreakers, a lot of throws
in between the ashes and the numbers.

Speaker 4 (52:35):
When we see Derek Stingley Junior travel with a receiver
as opposed to staying on one side much of the time,
that decision is that kind of a collective thing. You
discuss it game plan, all right, this week, we're gonna
do this, or if the game dictates in a different way,
you might change that up right.

Speaker 10 (52:50):
Yeah, I would say it's It's probably one of the
first things that we talk about how we're going to
deploy our guys, not just him. I mean, he's obviously
the one that everyone wants to talk about, but everyone
how we're gonna deploy them, uh and utilize their strengths.
What's gonna help us win, what's gonna put us in
the in the best position to win the game. It's
not just about, Hey, we want sting to go cover
that guy. Well, if that's not best for us, that's

(53:11):
not gonna help us win the football game, then then
we may not do that. So every week is independent
of each other.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
Coach, what do you see in the growth of Kamara
in the second year.

Speaker 10 (53:19):
He was ready since day one, he was born ready.
He's just he's got that in his DNA. He's cut
from that cloth.

Speaker 5 (53:26):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (53:26):
He's obviously made some some leaps and bounds here the
last year or so. He's became a more versatile player.
Can play inside and outside. He played a little inside
at the end of last year, but now he's just
comfortable doing it all and again selfless. Whatever we asked
him to do, he's willing to do that. But yeah,
he's he's a pleasure to coach. He's enjoyed the coach. Uh,

(53:48):
he's easy, easy to coach.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
Yeah, Yeah, same question for Derek because everyone reported about
the contract and everything, and he's working so hard in
the offseason.

Speaker 1 (53:57):
We saw him in here while the rodeo's going on.

Speaker 4 (54:00):
Have you have horses and cows and Derek Stingley in
the building and numerous other textans working out at the
time of year where a lot of teams wouldn't have
their guys in, but that says a lot about him.

Speaker 10 (54:08):
Yeah. Kid just works, it's all.

Speaker 5 (54:10):
He knows his work.

Speaker 10 (54:12):
We said this from the jump that he was gonna
let all the contract negotiations sort itself out and he
was gonna work. That's what he does, and the rest
of it took care of itself.

Speaker 1 (54:21):
You guys are pretty good tacklers in the at the
corner position. I mean it's pretty clear stinging Kamari. They
you know, Kamari loves to come up and hit, but he.

Speaker 3 (54:29):
Also raps too.

Speaker 2 (54:31):
I happened to see Safety's coach Steven out of go
case today.

Speaker 1 (54:34):
Oh yeah, in full gear. Yep.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
I'm waiting for Dino Vasso in full gear. Is that
ever gonna happen?

Speaker 10 (54:40):
You're gonna be waiting.

Speaker 5 (54:41):
You're gonna waiting.

Speaker 10 (54:43):
That's not happening. That's not happening. About one hundred and
seventy pounds slogan wed, they ain't hitting me.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Well, it's funny because we've seen him take punishment before
holding the big pad.

Speaker 1 (54:53):
Yeah, but no gear on today.

Speaker 10 (54:55):
I think it's the second time he's done this, second
time seen him in full pack. Yeah, he did it
a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (55:00):
We're seeing a number eight with a dark colored jersey
which would be indicate offense right during practice, and I'm thinking, Johnny,
who is that?

Speaker 1 (55:07):
Yeah, and it's coach. So in your football.

Speaker 2 (55:10):
Career when you were where you were a player, did
a coach ever do that where you could get your
shot on coach? Like man, coach has been riding me
for everything, I'm gonna get my shot on him.

Speaker 10 (55:19):
I can't recall. I would say maybe like Pop Warner
or something like that, but as you got older, I don't.
I can't recall that happening. That's pretty unique. Yeah, kudos
to Steve.

Speaker 4 (55:30):
Quarterbacks coach dinol Vasso with us. All Right, so you've
been here since twenty twenty one, so you're a Houstonian.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Now you're a Texan.

Speaker 4 (55:38):
How's it been living in Houston being a part of
the Houston experience, if you will.

Speaker 1 (55:42):
Coach love it.

Speaker 10 (55:44):
My wife loves it. That's probably the most important. She's
from the East Coast like me. She's from Boston. Obviously
I'm from Philly. But again where Eastonian is now or
we're used to it, it's a little bit, a little
bit more country than we're a customed to. But we
love it now.

Speaker 3 (55:57):
So if you find a good place for a cheesteak.

Speaker 10 (56:00):
We've tried a couple. Yeah I'm picky. I'm picky about them.
I got a couple that I'll eat, but nothing that
I'll brag about.

Speaker 1 (56:07):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
So I've always wondered this with people, people in Philly
because whenever I see videos of people that we're gonna
go get cheese steaks in Philly, and people always saying Philly, like, no, no, no,
Sometimes you got to get the pork sandwich with the
broccoli rob, like there are other roast pork sandwiches, Like
there are better sandwiches to get than a cheese steak.

Speaker 1 (56:24):
True or false.

Speaker 10 (56:25):
I like the cheese. I like the cheese steak the most.
But I do know some people that would agree with you. Yeah,
the broccoli rob or the roast pork. But yeah, I'm
a cheese steak guy.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Yeah I can't.

Speaker 3 (56:34):
I can't have mine with broccoli rob.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
I'm sorry, I can't do it.

Speaker 4 (56:37):
So to a native Philly guy, that is the food.
There's no doubt. It's not misname.

Speaker 10 (56:43):
To this native Philly guy, he asked a couple of
different people and may may be different, but for me,
cheese steak.

Speaker 4 (56:47):
Okay, good enough. What about Houston food? What about tex
mex Or barbecue or whatever you like the most here
at h Town?

Speaker 10 (56:55):
I love the barbecue. Spent a couple of years in
Kansas City, so I always introduced to to barbecue about
ten to fifteen years ago. Let's say this is a
little bit better than Kansas City in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (57:06):
Good to the answer.

Speaker 10 (57:07):
Yeah, but uh yeah, that would probably be my go
to the barbecue.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
Yeah, we gotta work on some of the rookies.

Speaker 2 (57:12):
They kept trying to tell us to our production meetings
that Kansas City barbecue is better at Texas barbecue. But
you know, they have been here long enough to kind
of adapt.

Speaker 10 (57:19):
In a just jingles from from Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (57:23):
What's that?

Speaker 10 (57:23):
Jalen Oles from Kansas City?

Speaker 3 (57:25):
Arianta Ursery was.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
He was very staunching his belief that Kansas City barbecue
is beat.

Speaker 5 (57:32):
They don't.

Speaker 10 (57:32):
They don't play about their barbecue in Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (57:34):
No, they don't play around. Believe it's just not as good.

Speaker 10 (57:37):
I'm agreeing with you.

Speaker 4 (57:38):
Yeah, it's not subjective at all, of course, coach, thanks
to a Loft for joining us.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
Good luck this week.

Speaker 10 (57:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (57:44):
I know enough people from Philly, and they'll tell you
because everything about Philly is oh Pats and Ginos, Pats
and Ginos, and people go there.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
And like, man, these chief staks are underwhelming.

Speaker 2 (57:53):
And then they go to some of the other places
they trout some of the roast pork with broccoli rob
and they're like, yo, that's the same much to get
Now there are still some great cheese steaks there as well,
don't get me wrong. And I believe my math is correct.
We go to Philly next year, so I can't wait
for that. Can't wait for that. But that's a long

(58:14):
long way off. But I guarantee you that weekend I
will definitely put some LB's on for show.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
As I get some of those cheese steaks.

Speaker 2 (58:22):
I might eat one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if possible,
because I love me some cheese steaks. I also love
some predictions. I love to make them. I love to
talk about the NFL. I love to talk about what's
going on with the NFL. So I'll make all my
predictions next right here in Texas All Access.

Speaker 1 (58:40):
Oh yeah, I've.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Been waiting all year for this. Welcome back to Texas
All Access. I'm your host, Sean Harris, Foot Planals sideline
reporter and yes it's week three. Every single year I
have done predictions heading into the weekend in this particular
segment of NFL games straight up and against the spread

(59:03):
for fun, for fun. But the last couple of weeks
with the opener, with our home opener, I ran out
of room. I've only got two hours in the show.
I couldn't do predictions and felt sort of naked. I
will admit it's kind of naked, just not having an
opportunity to talk about all the games the NFL. But
I made sure tonight as we got back on track

(59:26):
with a noon Sunday game.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
Damn well, Shure.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Is gonna do predictions of these games.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Throughout the NFL. Nobody's gonna buy yet.

Speaker 2 (59:37):
So we got a lot of games, so we got
a cruise now again straight up and against the spread
for fun.

Speaker 1 (59:43):
It's good way to.

Speaker 2 (59:44):
Talk about the games going on in the NFL. So
my show, My Music and Let's Rock Now Texas Jags
is at noon on Sunday, Central Time, Easter time. If
you're there at the game one o'clock, just be aware
of that. But I never picked that one. The Jags
are one and a half point favorite. Hmmm, interesting that

(01:00:08):
Vegas has made the Jacksonville Jaguars a one and a
half point favorite playing at home when the Jaguars are
beating the Texans once once in the last ten opportunities.
So I don't know, get that in mine, but I
don't pick that. Don't pick against heartthead. That's not gonna
do that. So let's get to the games. Let's start

(01:00:28):
in Minisota, where there will be two backup quarterbacks playing.
You will have Jake Browning. He we talked a little
bit about in the last segment taking on Carson Wentz
in the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Wentz went to North Dakota state.
A lot of people from the state of North Dakota
are big Vikings Fans've been up to Minnesota a few times.

(01:00:49):
One of my best friends is from up there, and
so I've visited, so a lot of people from North
Dakota big Vikings fans. Wentz is playing for his childhood team,
the team he grew up as a fan of, and
and his Vikings are a two and a half point
favorite at home. Now when these two teams met twenty
twenty three, two years ago, they met Cincinnati and the Bengals.

(01:01:12):
Jake Browning brought the Bengals back from behind won that game.
I don't know that it happens again. I think Wentz
with Kevin O'Connell, we'll get something done. Now here's the
other thing considered the Vikings. Aaron Jones banged up at
running back. This is gonna be a Jordan Mason joint.
I still am gonna go with the Vikings playing at home, second.

Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Home game in a row. Bengals go on the road.

Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
They didn't leave the state of Ohio the first couple
of weeks. Now they go up to Minnesota. Not a
long trip, but I'm gonna go Vikings to win and
they're gonna cover that two and a half. I always
liked the NFC teams anyways, but I just feel like
the Vikings are gonna bounce back from an absolute dreadful
disaster on Monday night. JJ McCarthy did not play well,
but I think Carson Wentz the last house of the
left for him. He started for like six teams in

(01:01:59):
the NFL, so I think he's gonna play well enough
to get the win over the Bengals. The Steelers are
taking on the Patriots in New England, where Pittsburgh's a
point and a half favorite. Steelers got wild last week,
but the Seahawks didn't help to kickoff returner or rookie
Caleb Johnson, let the.

Speaker 3 (01:02:15):
Ball land in the end zone, didn't go cover it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Seahawks with a touchdown, a cheap one, and they left
to go back to the West Coast and win. Patriots
went down to Miami and look good and got to win.
The Steelers I think are that much better even in Foxborough.
I think got pass rush, gets to Drake May and
the Steelers win this one on the road and they'll
cover the point and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
There we go, Colts Titans.

Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
Oh boy. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
I saw his graphic go up sometime on Friday, and
on one side had Daniel Jones and had his numbers
through the first two games. On the other side they
said mystery quarterback from twenty twenty four and they showed
his numbers and they're similar, and they're like, who's the
mystery quarterback And you're look at the numbers, going, well,
gotta be I don't know, that's gotta be like Josh

(01:03:03):
Allen right now, it's gonna be Lamar Jackson. It's got
no it was Derek Carr. He's got the same numbers
as Derek Carr. So we'll see if this is long
lasting for Daniel Jones. But it's the Titans. Titans are
banged up a little bit. I don't think the Tights
are gonna be very good this year.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Obviously be the.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Texans last year in that game at home. That can't
happen again a week four, but that's for next week.
I think the Colts go to Tennessee. However, I do
think Tennessee plays this thing close. I think it's gonna
be a seven point win. It's gonna be like thirty
one to twenty four, you know, twenty seven to twenty
something like that. It's enough to cover the four and
a half the Colts are gonna get. It's gonna be
closer than people think. The Colts are gonna have to

(01:03:38):
score in a fourth quarter and take that win. If
the Colts are gonna get the win, they're gonna go
three and Oh that's gonna suck, but they're gonna beat
the hapless Titans in Nashville.

Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
Can't I can't believe' gonna say this, but go Titans.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
I think I think I want the Titans to win.
I think I don't know. I still haven't come to
the conclusion on that. That'll be going on while our
game is going on.

Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
So I don't have to watch it.

Speaker 5 (01:03:57):
So that's good.

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Okay, Falcon's going to take on the Panthers. Falcons have
a new kicker. Apparently all the troubles of young waykup
too much. Falcons got a new kicker. I don't think
they're gonna need him against Carolina. Carolina's not very good
and drafted Ted McMillan, who I think is gonna be
really really good and now he's my number one wide
receiver off my board.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
But man, they need help defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
It was the Falcons who drafted that defensive help and
Jalen Walker and James Pierce Junior, the two rookies have
really been paying off for the Falcons. They have played really,
really well. They gotta go on the road again back
to back weeks after a Monday night game. That not
easy to do. Regardless, the Falcons are the better team here,
their favorite by five and a half. They'll win by ten.

(01:04:40):
Let's go thirty to twenty Falcons over the Panthers.

Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Falcons go to two and one with that win.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
One of the games in a day taking place at noon,
Rams Eagles in Philly.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
I man, this is a tough one for the Rams.

Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
I don't know if I don't know if the Rams
end up going back to LA but they played in
Tennessee last week and then they're playing in Phillies. My
guess is they stayed on the East coast, so they'll
probably have their body clock adjusted. But I still think
the Eagles, and not a lot of credits being given
to the Eagles for how good they are. They got
by the Cowboys and they got by the Chiefs. I

(01:05:16):
think this is the game where they kind of break
out a little bit. Rams better against the run than
they were when they met the Eagles in the Visional
playoff round. Eagles are faired by three and a half.
It's gonna be close. I think Eagles win this game,
but I think the Rams get inside that three and
a half. So let's go Eagles to win, Rams to
cover that three and a half. Speaking of Monday Night,

(01:05:37):
the Bucks two and of after the Monday Night win
over the Texans are taking on the Jets. Oh and
to Aaron Glenn yet to get a win. Bucks are
banged up. That happens when you take on the Texans,
you get banged up. They're faired by six and a
half at home. I think the Bucks win this, but
it's gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
It won't be easy.

Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
This one will not be easy for the Bucks, but
they'll get the win. Aaron Glenn unfortunately follow and three
Bucks win my ten, so they'll cover, but it'll be
a tight one, more than you'd think. All Right, Raiders
Commanders taking place in Washington. Gino Smith will start for
the Raiders and bring that up because his counterpart Jade

(01:06:15):
Daniels will not start for the Commanders. This will be
a Marcus Mariota joint for the Commanders. Now, well, that's
kind of fell. Marcus Mariota would fit a Cliff Kingsbury offense.
So I'm curious to see how Kingsbury uses him and
whether he uses him many differently than he uses Jaydon Daniels.
I guess is yes, not a whole lot, but enough

(01:06:37):
that he'll put the Raiders kind of on her skates
a little bit. So I'm going Commanders to win this.
They'll cover the two and a half. I think in
the fourth quarter they pull away, They'll win this thing
by thirteen. Let's go thirty one eighteen. Commanders beat the Raiders.
Commanders through the two end one. Packer's taking on the
Browns in Cleveland. Packers got a long got the after

(01:07:00):
the Thursday night game. Get some guys healthy. Now they're
gonna miss Jane Reid for the rest of the year.
That's gonna hurt it. Wide receiver, But I don't know
that matters against the Browns. Packers gonna win this by
seven and a half on the road. I don't like
that hook.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
The half.

Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
Matter matter.

Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
I think the Packers are gonna go win by They're
gonna go win by a couple of touchdowns. Twenty eight
to fourteen. Pack beats the Browns. It's a great football
game taking place in so Far. First one in the afternoon,
Broncos taking on the Chargers. Chargers two and oh, gonna
win over the Chiefs in Brazil and then gotta win
last week. I'm on a football the game there's after

(01:07:36):
ours against the Raiders. Broncos blew it against the Colts,
so they're one in one. Chargers are faired by two
and a half. So Vegas feels like straight up the
Broncos are better than Chargers. I don't think that's true.
They get Chargers this year. It feels different. It feels
different at least two two games it does, and I
think it's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Through three games.

Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
I think the Chargers win this. They're gonna win by seven.
Is the Broncos have to go on the road a
second week in a row. Chargers cover that two and
a half and win the game in Sofi Stadium.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Saints taking on the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
Seahawks got that big win after losing to the Niners
a week one big win at Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
They come back home.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
They're a seven and a half point favorite against the Saints.
Saints leave New Orleans. I don't know if the Saints
are gonna get it done. Saints played both games in
New Orleans. Now they gonna go to Seattle. Nah Seattle
wins this thing by two touchdowns and covers the seven
and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Cardinals taking on the Niners.

Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
Both teams two and zero games taking place out in
San Francisco. San Francisco's favored by two and a half.
Maners is still banged up, still banged up. They're favored
by two and a half. Cardinals have given him issue,
but I don't think it's gonna matter. I think that
is gonna win this by a touchdown. Hard fuck game.
Before about three and a half quarters, Niners pulled away
win by seven in the end. Cowboys Bears is the

(01:08:49):
Matt eber Fluse Bowl in Chicago in the afternoon.

Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
It should be a beautiful day.

Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Dallas is favored by a point a half going to Chicago.

Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
I think Chicago turns it around and Chicago gets it
right in this one. Chicago wins in a minor upset
over the Cowboys at home. I don't know why I
feel that way. Kind of feel like maybe Ben Johnson's
got his team's attention, or at least has found the
guys that he wants that have his attention. So let's
go Chicago in an upset. Chief Giants two zero to

(01:09:20):
two teams on Sunday night football.

Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
Yay.

Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
Might see the second half of that one as we
fly back for Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
Can't City.

Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
Favored by six and a half, Chiefs are gonna win this.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Although the Giants found some offense last week, so I
think the Giants lose, but they lose by.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Less than six and a half. Let's put that way.

Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Chiefs win, Giants cover. Takes us to Monday night, which
is gonna be a head knocker. Lions Ravens in Baltimore
or Baltimore fair by four and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
Lay those points all day.

Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
I think the Ravens are gonna put one on the
Lions again like they did last year two years ago.
I think it was Ravens jumped all over the Lions.
I think that happens again. Ravens win that score forty
in the process. Let's go forty to twenty eight. That
covers the four and a half. And that's all the
predictions we have for you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
All right, it's a feel good Friday. You know what
that means.

Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
We finished the show with Tamiko Ryans next right here
in Texans All Access. All right, we got one final
segment this Friday edition of Texans All Access from the
Hyundai Texans Radio studio.

Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
I am your host, John.

Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Harris, football analyst, sideline reporter for your Houston Texans kickoff
Sunday noon locally, well here in Houston one o'clock if
you are in Jacksonville, because they are in Eastern time.
This is the first noon game that Texas are playing
since going to Tennessee in Week eighteen. Texans last year

(01:10:43):
on and in noon games eight and three lost to
Tennessee at home, lost to Green Bay on the road,
lost to Minnesota on the road. So eight and three
team likes to play noon games, or at least maybe
more used to that than playing night games or mid
afternoon games. But I will win those seemingly soon enough.

(01:11:06):
But got a big one at noon against the Jacksonville
Jaguars in their building. Jags one and one, as we
pointed out earlier, beat the Panthers in Duval County twenty
six to ten.

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Panthers not very good. Lost to the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Jake Browning essentially beat them for the second time in
three years back in twenty twenty three when Joe Burrow
was hurt again. Burrow got hurt the week after we
played them in Week ten, went played a Thursday night game,
got hurt. Browning came in beat the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Later that year.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
We had the greatest SoundBite possible.

Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
You should have never.

Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
Bleep and cut me, which is really kind of cool.

Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
Then went to Jacksonville beat the Jags as the Jags
were cratering and because they were creating, the Texas were
able to win a division, so Browning did in twenty
twenty three. Late Game Drive kicked a field goal to
win it. On Monday Night Football last week, Down three
got to the goal line up over the top, does
the Drew Brees Matt Stafford thing, gets a touchdown, beats

(01:12:05):
the Jags thirty one twenty seven. Again, the Jags really
kind of had in hand let get away steaks, dumb plays,
kind of would I say this kind of Jaguar football
if you will, at least that's what it's been in
the past. Hoping for a little bit more Jaguar football
on Sunday against the Houston Texans, but we'll see how

(01:12:26):
that goes now.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
Last year, when I don't know, I think it was probably.

Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
During a little bit of a stretch where Texas weren't
playing all that well. Marke and I were sitting in
studio and at some point it came up, like, you
know what, it always makes me feel good when I hear
from Demko, and so he said, well, hey, why don't
we take Friday Show last segment and replay the Coaches
Show interview with Demiko Because he's smiling he's laughing.

Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
He makes you feel good even when the team is
zero and two.

Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
The third I'm sorry, the fourth time that's happened since
I've been on this online.

Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
This is my twelfth year, so thirty.

Speaker 5 (01:13:02):
The time tank.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Now those other three times went oh and too ended
up winning the division. One of those times in twenty
twenty three, went to Jacksonville in week three oh and
two won the ball game thirty seven to seventeen.

Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Would love for something.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Like that to happen either way, we thought, and we
still think. Here from Amiko makes us feel good. So
feel good Friday with Demko Ryans right here with a
lot to.

Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
Discuss joining us now head coach Tamiko Ryan's coach. Great
to see you, thanks for visiting with us. And week
two did not go as well as planned. Week three
upon us with Jacksonville, but let's reflect back here because
you did improve in certain areas. What did you like
even though you didn't get the W and what still
needs improvement overall?

Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Snapshot coach, Yeah, overall snapshot?

Speaker 5 (01:13:51):
What I like?

Speaker 6 (01:13:51):
I like from our special teams unit right the way
our special teams unit, you know, really ignited a fire
in our team. They gave us a chance to win
the game. Like Noel returning the football there did an
outstand the job of setting the team up to be
able to get a block punt there and the pressure
to punt another time, really outstanding job to force a

(01:14:13):
missfield goal. Man, you talk about impact plays in a
special teams game, that was huge for us. Offensively, what
I liked we got an the end zone. We did
get in the end zone, which we didn't do the
first week. So definitely taking strides there CJ to Nico
that connection, really nice touchdown there, seeing Chubb running football
well again another week, can get in the end zone.

Speaker 5 (01:14:35):
Some positives there.

Speaker 6 (01:14:36):
How, our communication, how urgent we were getting in and
out of the huddle right to give ourselves the time
that we needed. Thought that was the improvement from week one.
And defensively, I just thought we improved on the third
downs as we continue to progress through the game. Didn't
start great, but third down we did improve on a

(01:14:57):
third down giving ourselves a chance to get off the
field to get the offense the ball back.

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Because when you're driving home, just kind of in your thoughts.
I don't know if you have as long as drive
as I do. But I was in my thoughts the
whole way. Was there something that kind of in the
back of your mind that you kept thinking about, like, man,
if this man, this one thing is just kind of
stuck right there about that game?

Speaker 5 (01:15:16):
Is there one of those for you? I wish it
was just one, but yeah, you.

Speaker 6 (01:15:22):
Know, I think the thing that stuck to me was
just just like, man, tackling, Like that's the part that
just continued to eat at me. Is just like the
tackling when we tackle really well the first week and
you come out the second week and it was not
good enough, right, and it wasn't winning football. And ultimately
that's what the game came down to, is tackling. So

(01:15:45):
that's the one that sticks me. But something we definitely
we have to. We know we can do it. It's
just a matter of, man, are you consistently dialed in,
how bad do you want to get the guy down?

Speaker 5 (01:15:57):
How urgent are you to wrap guys?

Speaker 6 (01:16:00):
But like a lot of times trying to tackle with
one arm, which doesn't work in this league, and our
guys know that, right. We didn't need more evidence to
show that it doesn't work. It doesn't work, so we
gotta wrap guys. Up, take them to the.

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Ground, coach, I'm gonna go in no particular order here
at the end of the game, there you are. You're
kind of in a clock conundrum because do you call
timeouts to hope to save a little time, yet you
want to keep them out of the end zone you
hope they run out of time. It's kind of a
tough situation to play, right when they're driving down the field.

Speaker 5 (01:16:28):
Yeah, a tough situation to play.

Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
Mark The main thing and everything is well, you're not
thinking the other side, like we're gonna give up a
touchdown in this situation with how much how much space
we had, how much time, So knowing we could end
the game, it was thinking just let's end the game defensively.

Speaker 5 (01:16:46):
We just need four stops to end the game.

Speaker 6 (01:16:49):
And that was a thought process, and we had them
there four and ten we had them again, like Baker
made a play, We didn't make a play, didn't execute
the pressure up way, and then we got guy free
and we don't make the tackle.

Speaker 5 (01:17:03):
Theirs just hey, what do you do?

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
All right?

Speaker 5 (01:17:05):
You keep going forward? All right? Now we got four
new downs.

Speaker 6 (01:17:09):
Let's go right right, and we sit back, play our covers,
allow for guys to rush up front and then it
comes back down to tackling and running back again. A
couple of checkdown plays try to eliminate the deep passes,
which we did, but then the checkdown plays happened and
we allow just misstackles allowed them to get closer, which

(01:17:30):
they shouldn't have been.

Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Coach, I always love seeing growth from young players.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
And last night Wood he does some good things. Jaalen
Knowles you talked about in your press conference. Jalen know
the return game, he has two kickoff returns. The part
return is a great one, which I'm still trying to
understand what they threw the flag for and then picked
it up. Thankfully they did. Yo Ja Higgins has the
one across the middle that's really good. Ariante's doing some
good things left tackle. What do you see from your
young guys and the growth that they're making at this point.

Speaker 6 (01:17:57):
Our young guys are doing an awesome job. Right They're
stepping in, they're being reliable with the things they're ass
You know, we're putting Ariante in a tell spot rookie
left tackle. He's doing a really nice job. He's improving.
Thought he had a much better week this week of
just training and just finishing his one on one matchup
is what I challenged him on this week, and I
thought he did a really nice job of that.

Speaker 5 (01:18:19):
J Nole.

Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
Knowing he could be an explosive returner for his explosive playmaker,
he just needed to show everyone that he has that capability.
He proved it on Monday Night. He showed that capability.
We just got to continue to give him more opportunities.
Would he made an explode, got a check down pass,
makes an explosive run up their sideline, and he has
some really nice runs as well, So we just keep

(01:18:43):
giving those guys opportunities. Right, Higgins is doing a nice
job as well with the opportunities that he's given. But
it's good to see good young guys just not the
game not being too big for him. They're just taking
it how it comes and they're making the plays that
they're supposed to make.

Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
What'd you think of though, one two punch of Nick
Chubb and Woody Marx and also Chubb being in there
in some i'll put it in the air quotes obvious
passing situations, but you trust.

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
Him in those situations?

Speaker 5 (01:19:09):
Yeah, for sure. I really like the combination.

Speaker 6 (01:19:11):
What I'm saying, between Woody and Chubb, it's a really
good one two combination, and I think we have to
rely on that a little bit more, right, getting both
guys more opportunities. Right, Chubb, he's done a really outstanding
job in the pass protection. Right, He saved us on
one of our play action passes last week versus the
Rams to pick up an edge.

Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Blitzer this week.

Speaker 6 (01:19:32):
Just how strong, how stout he is picking up Blitzer, smart,
knowing where to go.

Speaker 5 (01:19:37):
We just got to give him.

Speaker 6 (01:19:38):
More of those opportunities, which I think he can help
us a lot. When it comes to those protections when
they're bringing second level defenders, I think Chubb has done
the best job at handling those. So we got to
give him more opportunities on passing situations, second and third
down to put him in those spots more.

Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
Coach, I would imagine the challenge.

Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
Oh and two, when you look at it reality, two
playoff teams from last year you lost on the road
where you had a chance getting in the red zone
last night at all kinds of chances to win that
game against two very good teams. How do you, as
leader of this group make sure you don't lose the
confidence that you remind guys, look, we're a really good
football team.

Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
We haven't played like it all the time.

Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
We've played like it some of the time, and we
haven't got a break to go our way.

Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
We're eventually going to have that.

Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
How do you get them to not lose confidence that
they are the team.

Speaker 5 (01:20:28):
That they really are? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:20:29):
For me, man, I'm the stabilizer here, right, and there's
me steadying the ship, making sure everybody's stable. And just
what's the truth. I know how it feels. I know
it doesn't feel It doesn't feel great to be oh
and to trust me. I don't feel great about being
oh and too. But the truth of the matter is
we've had some really good plays when we do it
the right way, and we had some really successful plays

(01:20:51):
when we do it the right way.

Speaker 5 (01:20:52):
And now what are those mishaps?

Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Where are we off a little bit when it doesn't
go quite how we've coached it right?

Speaker 5 (01:21:00):
A doing it quite like we coached it.

Speaker 6 (01:21:02):
I gotta correct that right and show guys, hey, this
is how it looks when we do it right, and
this is how it looks when we're not doing it
a proper way. This leads to losing football. This is
winning football. So let's just get more on the positive side.
Let's make more winning plays, let's make more winning decisions,
and we'll be in the win call.

Speaker 4 (01:21:20):
Of Well, the lesson was in the game itself in
a way, because I know you were disappointed not getting
into the end zone with second and goal inside the one.
Yet you were able to get the lead later on anyway,
because you made plays on all three levels.

Speaker 6 (01:21:33):
Yeah, for sure, I know that's the big one that
comes up on the you know, being there on the
goal line and not being able to punch the ball in.

Speaker 5 (01:21:41):
I mean we had opportunities.

Speaker 6 (01:21:44):
I mean we hit Nico there on the first down,
he almost gets in in, we try to run and
we get knocked back.

Speaker 5 (01:21:49):
Get stuff.

Speaker 6 (01:21:50):
So third down, we went with our playmakers, right CJ
and Nico.

Speaker 5 (01:21:55):
We went with them.

Speaker 6 (01:21:56):
They executed that play in practice perfectly. Man come getting
into the game, we had the same opportunity, same look,
we didn't make the play. And we had the fourth
down play which was all miscommunication on the motion and
we didn't execute the play properly. So it goes back
to like, I know we're not close. I know we're
not far off, right, We execute our plays properly. Probably guys,

(01:22:21):
two guys opening the end zone right there.

Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Coach, maybe along those lines.

Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
But your thoughts on how you're thinking, how you've thought
CJ has progressed these first couple of weeks learning this
new offense and kind of leading it.

Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
What have you thought about TJ?

Speaker 5 (01:22:33):
Yeah, CJ's doing a good job.

Speaker 6 (01:22:35):
Well, like CJ with all of us, like every we
got all room for improvement, right, CJ got to pick
it up. Everybody else around him has to pick it up. Right,
We expect more. We got to do more and just
go and do what we've been coached to do and
do it the right way, do it with that you know,
and everybody do.

Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
It with a great attitude. Man, we it's so close.

Speaker 6 (01:22:56):
That's why I'm it's like her like, man, we're going
to I can't believe two. But it's like, man, you're
talking about a few plays, right, you're talking about a
hand plays? Yeah, from being too and oh and that's
the league, right, That's how it is every week. And
now how can we lean into those moments of Man,
it's gonna come down to some critical moments, some fourth down,

(01:23:16):
some third down plays, Like are you relishing those moments.
Are you excited to be in those moments? Like, coach,
let me, I'll make that play, Like, we just got
to make those plays. We've been in position there a
few times. We just got to find a way to
make those.

Speaker 1 (01:23:31):
Plays, all right.

Speaker 4 (01:23:31):
So Jacksonville, they just lost to the Bengals in the game,
they feel like they should have won. So that's how
they're playing they want on opening day and they look
a little different. They look good offensively, not perfect, turning
the ball over sometimes, But what are you seeing in
them overall?

Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
Coach?

Speaker 6 (01:23:48):
I think Liam has done a really nice job of
changing how that team looks. Right, they look different. They
look much better than they've done in the past. Offensively,
just think with the run game. They picked it up
in the run games. Schematically, what they're doing, it fits
really what we've seen the past two weeks. But I
think where they stick out to me is in a
screen game. That's where ETN Hunter all those guys like

(01:24:12):
they do a really nice job of the screen.

Speaker 5 (01:24:14):
We know Liam loves the screens.

Speaker 6 (01:24:16):
He's probably top three and calling screens since he's been
a play caller. So we had some screens that hit
us in the game last week that we know we
have to clean up there. So know that's coming Trevor.
We know he's if you allow him right, he can
fit the ball in tight windows. He can hit the
d pass as well. But we know we got to
apply pressure. We gotta make sure we give him some

(01:24:37):
different looks. Just got to execute the coverages and things
the proper way and allow the D line to get
out there. Offensive line is playing better, really good units
out of the unit, they've done a really nice job
as well.

Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
I know it's not one hundred percent of now, I
guess coach, but in prepping for the Bucks, where Liam
was calling plays and now he's in Jacksonville and it's
a different crew of guys, so you're doing things differently,
but it feels like there's some crossover as that sort
of helped at least to start the prep for Jacksonville.

Speaker 6 (01:25:05):
Yeah, it's been a ton of crossover. I was joking
with the guys like I've been watching Liam Cohen.

Speaker 5 (01:25:09):
For all week now all.

Speaker 6 (01:25:12):
Season, but yeah, watching Tampa, it's like we pop up
old games.

Speaker 5 (01:25:16):
I'm like, man, this is all Liam and what he's calling.

Speaker 6 (01:25:18):
So those concepts they definitely carry over kind of get
a feel for how he called the game, and Josh
had his own little wrinkle to how he called it.
But definitely a ton of staples, a ton of carryover
from what we've done, you know, this week and even
so much for the first week as well, a lot
of similarities there when it comes to conceptually what you're watching,

(01:25:40):
But ultimately it always comes down to how we're executing
what we have to do. But knowing you kind of
know where they want to lean, where their strengths lie,
and we got to do a better job of stopping
the run. You know they're gonna come in and probably
copy some of the same run schemes that we saw
on Monday night.

Speaker 4 (01:25:57):
I'm old enough to remember the Dolphins, i mean in
here last year with their screen game, because they ran
a ton of screens right, and you dealt with it
so well. How similar or different is this screen game
that the Jags present?

Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
Yeah? Very similar.

Speaker 6 (01:26:10):
He just comes to hav an awareness right, especially from
the d line perspective, right when you feel guys really
aren't blocking you. If you have that awareness right to
get Danil made a great play on the screen on
Monday night. He comes off the ball feels the tackle
isn't blocking him. You got to know something is up.
And that's the main thing I try to teach our guys,
especially for the ends and even the interior tackles for

(01:26:32):
that degree. If a guy isn't blocking you aggressively, like
put the brakes on right, something is up. You got
to turn out in some type of screen pass. So
the better our guys play with awareness up front, the
better we can handle the screens.

Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
I feel like, I'm glad you brought U Danielle, coach,
because it feels like in two games, I'm glad he
got the sacks last night he gets to one hundred,
which is a hell of an accomplishment. What is he
giving you through the first couple of games, daniel and
it Will's done a great job on the other side,
But you, in particular chasing down Baker for the one sack,
getting the ball out that I always I always feel

(01:27:06):
like when the ball is there on the on the ground,
it's like everybody wants to jump off the sideline and
go grab it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
But just Danielle and what he's giving you for the
first couple of games.

Speaker 5 (01:27:13):
And relentless energy.

Speaker 6 (01:27:15):
I mean, he's he's been on it like he's been
on a tear. The way he gets after these tackles,
man is second to none. So he's done an outstanding
job of just continuing to apply pressure a right mixing
up the moves.

Speaker 5 (01:27:27):
You see spind move, fake spend.

Speaker 6 (01:27:29):
He has so many, so many moves in his in
his twol belt. So it's always fun to watch him
because you never know quite how he's going to get
to the quarterback, but you know it's going to be effective.
You know he's gonna apply pressure and he's done a
great job these first two weeks. Man, proud of him
for reaching such an incredible feed of getting one hundred sacks.

Speaker 5 (01:27:50):
Let's keep going, Let's keep getting more and the more
to marry you. So I'm looking forward to.

Speaker 4 (01:27:56):
It what goes on with certain guys because Danil when
you see him away from the field, he's so so.

Speaker 1 (01:28:02):
Quiet but kind of like our head coach.

Speaker 4 (01:28:08):
Daniel walks around like he's very subdued in a way.
Is he's saving it all for between the lines, he's saving.

Speaker 6 (01:28:15):
It all and he's the one guy who can flip
that switch when he crosses he crosses the field man,
he definitely turns out, but he never says much. He
doesn't say much, but you know when he shows up,
like he's one of our hardest workers, right, and he's
one of our most productive guys because it means a
lot to him.

Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
Right.

Speaker 6 (01:28:34):
I just think back to the free agency process and
getting to kneel here with the Texans, Like how much
it meant to him right to play for his hometown team.
It meant so much to him to be able to
come home and play here with the Texans. So what
it means that much to you is it's in your heart,
means more, You're gonna do a little bit more. And

(01:28:55):
that's what he shows us every time is game day.

Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
Right here, we go into the AFC South, and there's
just something different when you're in the division, right, there's
something extra. A win would count twice maybe when you
think about tie breakers and that kind of thing, But really,
what is it about a division team? You know them
so well, a lot of the same guys, You've been
in some battles with them.

Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
What about that aspect of things?

Speaker 6 (01:29:16):
Yeah, that's the part that makes it exciting. You know,
you know the players, right, we know it's a new
scheme offensively, defensive, versus Jacksonville. But these players we've seen.
We've went against these guys for the most part, went
against most of the guys before, and you know what
to expect, right.

Speaker 5 (01:29:31):
You know the type of players they are.

Speaker 6 (01:29:33):
You know their strengths, you know their weaknesses and vice versa.

Speaker 5 (01:29:37):
They know they know ours as well.

Speaker 6 (01:29:38):
It's almost like training, training can so to speak to
guys go against each other two times, but you know
what's on the line, like every year, man, you know
you have to win your division right to get into
the playoffs, you have to win your division. So there
is a heightened sense of urgency like oh, division game,
Like we gotta get this one done. And so you know,

(01:30:00):
it's no pressure anybody, but it's just like, let's go
out and let's find a way to get this one done.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
I don't want to say, are you happy that the
game is finally at noon? I think there's some people
this room that are happy that game is taking place
at noon Central, But it feels I don't know, Like
I know it's a shorter week, but is it better
to kind of get back on the routine, Like, okay,
Tuesday got to get back to work. Wednesday were kind
of on our normal practice schedule place Sunday, kind of
like normal.

Speaker 3 (01:30:26):
Is that kind of help this week at all?

Speaker 6 (01:30:28):
I hope anything else. I'm happy that it's coming very quickly,
all right, that's the thing. Like we've had two tough
ones that we lost there in the fourth quarter, So
I'm very happy that.

Speaker 5 (01:30:38):
Hey, we've got to flush this on quick. It doesn't matter.
We can't hold on to this one too long. We
gotta let it go.

Speaker 6 (01:30:44):
We gotta press forward, right because we hold on to
these two now that we're not going there.

Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
Yep, like reset, let's go, dude.

Speaker 6 (01:30:53):
We gotta do finish games the right way and we
can get in a win.

Speaker 4 (01:30:57):
Call doub How do you handle the situation with a
short week, coming off a Monday night game and everything,
how do you take care of the guys' bodies?

Speaker 5 (01:31:05):
And that's what Yeah, that's a great question there.

Speaker 6 (01:31:06):
I mean today, Tuesday be our off day, so players
are out just recovering.

Speaker 5 (01:31:11):
Tomorrow we won't go through.

Speaker 6 (01:31:14):
Full speed practice because it's forty eight hours to move
from the game, So still want to take care of
the guys healthwise and make sure their bodies are recovered.
So it'd be more of a jog through walkthrough type
temple on our Wednesday practice. Thursday will be a normal prictice,
will put the pads on, which is kind of like
a Wednesday, yeah, and then our Friday prictice will be

(01:31:34):
probably a little bit more uptemple with the walkthrough on Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
Could you mentioned flushing it?

Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
And I've always I always wondered about this because we
talk about it in the football world, like you gotta
flush you, you gotta move on?

Speaker 3 (01:31:45):
What do what do you do to try and flush it?

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
Is just immediately diving to Jacksonville and that's the next opponent.
Let's go, what's the best thing for you and another's
around you to flush it and move on?

Speaker 5 (01:31:57):
How do you do?

Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
Like, what's the what's the technique for you to get
behind you completely?

Speaker 5 (01:32:01):
Man?

Speaker 6 (01:32:01):
For me, it's going through the film with the coaching staff.
So I sit and I go through the film with
the offensive coaches, and I'll go with the defensive coaches
and the special teams.

Speaker 5 (01:32:11):
And I just get out all of my frustrations right there,
meaning like what are we doing? Why are we not executing?

Speaker 6 (01:32:19):
So I get it all out there and by that
time when I see the when I see the players. Man,
it's behind me, got it all out. Let's go positive energy.
We're all moving forward on fixing what we need to fix.
And that's most of that energy is what is geared
to me. We got to fix what we gotta fix.
And I also tell the coaches day, it's a lot
of great things that you can't lose sight of.

Speaker 5 (01:32:41):
Man, we lost the game, you can't lose sight of.

Speaker 6 (01:32:43):
The good things and the improvements that we've made, Like
build on those, clean up what we got to clean up,
and let's press forward.

Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
All right.

Speaker 4 (01:32:52):
Amergy Bank ask coach question of the week, and I
think a lot of people can benefit from this. So
you tell us, coach, how do you keep throughout these
long work days?

Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
How do you keep your energy up? How do you
keep going keep moving on?

Speaker 6 (01:33:04):
What can you share with us how do I keep
my energy going and moving throughout the day?

Speaker 5 (01:33:08):
Well, it starts I have to get a workout in.
So I try to get a workout. Hit the waits
so first step the noon.

Speaker 6 (01:33:14):
Now, first thing in the morning, I'll start with the devotion,
all right, start with the word to just start the day.
And then throughout the day I'm listening to music listening
to worship music while I'm in my offense watching film.
Just to keep the energy going there. Midday, try to
grab a workout or try to go outside and walk

(01:33:36):
around a little bit, just to keep moving, hopefully moving,
spark some new ideas and thoughts in my head.

Speaker 1 (01:33:43):
Don't get bogged down at the desk too much.

Speaker 6 (01:33:45):
I can't can't be a sitter all day.

Speaker 1 (01:33:48):
Gotta move around all right. Sounds good, Coach, Thanks a
lot for joining us.

Speaker 5 (01:33:51):
Thanks guys enjoying it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
We are the ones that enjoyed every single week to me, coach,
so thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (01:33:56):
Cap.

Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
We appreciate all that he does.

Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
Brings a spirit to this team that hopefully will get
a win on Sunday in a tough environment. It's gonna
be and it's you know, Jacksonville is always kind of
tricky with the crowd. But I guarantee the first time
is he's El Shier's name is mentioned over the loudspeaker
there of the stadium, he will be booed. I guarantee
the Texans will be booed mightily.

Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
Mightily.

Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
This this fan base from Jacksonville doesn't care for the
Texans all that much. That's fine. Come after the champ
you best not miss, you best not miss. So we'll
see what happens on Sunday. But a big thanks to
the Miko obviously, my man Mark vandermir to Dino Vasso,
cornerbacks coach who joined us, to Jonathan Alexander from the
Houston Chronicle, Daniel Hunter, Greg Bailey, to all of you
