Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up? And everybody? Welcome to Draft Week.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Yes, it's finally here, which is equal parts awesome and
equal parts oh my god, anxiety ridden because have I
done what I needed to do to get ready for
this weekend? I think I'm there. I think I'm there.
I am John Harris, your host, alongside the Voice of
the Texans, Mark Vandermuir. Mark, I think I'm there. Are
you ready? Are you there for Draft Week? Are you

(00:23):
ready for Draft Day?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
I don't want to alarm you, but I was actually
doing some prep this weekend. Okay, so I thought it's
time to get started on this. This is let's stood
out about your prep. What were you prepping the night
before the final exam? It's time to start studying for
this course.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
I think you know. No, I've been following all the
way through. Yeah, that's why when you said that, I
was like, but I've.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Been doing extra I've been reading about different position groups
and just getting other people's thoughts besides yours, because I
think it's good to get different opinions on things, just
so I can say, well, what about this?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
You know, you know what Todd McShay says about him.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
I know you love that It's like it's like arguing
with your wife and saying, well, Jessica Alba is on
this diet, don't do that.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
All of a sudden silence on the radio, John, would
you care to respond?

Speaker 1 (01:17):
How?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Don't give a damn what McShay says. I mean, I
think I think guys that are in what I like
to do, I think if they're true to themselves, I
just they know how they feel about guys. And I mean,
you know, I'm I'm pretty straightforward. I'd like to think
about the guys and what I think about them and
how they'll be as you know, a Viking, a Patriot
and whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And I'll give you my thoughts.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
I'm not blowing smoke here, but I think you have
a number of advantages over a lot of these guys.
Number one, you played football. That's a pretty good help there.
You played, you played in college playing is good. Another
one is you live here in the building. And I
think that the amount of football players that we get
in contact with and just being around him, I mean

(02:02):
even you know, getting a drink with them, not a
adult beverage, but a beverage in the in the dining
room or something. There's just little stuff that you notice
and you see them grow up, and I think you
have a different perspective than guys who are in their
basement just grinding on film all day, which you know
can give you a lot of information.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
I get it. But you know you've lived the game
in a way that a lot of these guys have.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
It's one of the things that I like to think.
And I when I'm at the Senior Bowl, it's good
because I see these guys up close and personal. Yeah,
but you know, six five three zho five can be three.
You can have three different guys in front of you
six five three oh five and you look at them
all go, that guy over there can fit in our
locker room.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
He has an NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
But like what they look like now, they're supposed to
look the way they go about their business.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Practice you watch, I mean every single practice. Yep, you're
on the field every game. You know, melk Hypers not
on the field every game. He's not at all these practices,
you know, and look, mel God bless him. He's built
a whole career on this and basically, I want to say,
almost invented the industry.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
You know exactly.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Guys like Joel bushbomb are one thing, but Kiper made
it a national stage thing.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
So good for him, but great for you. You've got
great perspective on this stuff. But it also goes back
to the inexact science of it all. You know, you
and these gms, I mean, they have unbelievable information and
access and nobody gets it right.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Nope.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
You got injuries, You've got outside factors. You've got the
love of money, the love of the game or lack
of the love of the game. And I think it
all you just never know. I the one that always
stands out to me. There was a linebacker from Wake
Forest and he was the number two of all peck

(03:50):
can remember what year. His name was Aaron Curry, and
I remember watching him and I wasn't alone. I was like,
that's the safest pick in his draft, Like, without a doubt,
Aaron Kurry, that linebacker.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
What he does, He's all round.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
He rushes, he plays the run, he sets the edge,
he drops and coverage like he does everything.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
And he didn't last in the league four years. So
why why was that? Exactly? And that's kind of the point.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
And eventually it was like three or four years later
he wrote an article. I think it's for the Player's Tribune,
and he talked about he had money for the first
time in his life. He no longer like saw the
pursuit of playing the game. It just didn't interest him
as much as it did when he was trying to
be a top pick so he could make money, and

(04:38):
he realized he was set for life. He went to
wake for US. I think he was a finance major,
so if I remember correctly, and he was set, he
was done, and so in his mind, it just didn't
drive him every day. Football didn't drive him, and he
was out within four years. And so you know who
he works for now, Aaron Curry? Yeah, who? The New

(05:00):
York Jets. Aaron Glenna Hier linebackers coach. Yep, that's awesome.
How about that? That's very cool. I do remember I
didn't have that ready. I looked that up. It's pretty cool.
But I think what's cool about that is the fact
that at some point you come back around to it,
you realize, Okay, when you're in the throes of it
as a player, maybe you don't respect it and you
appreciate it, and then you step away from you you're like, man,

(05:21):
holy cow.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I missed the game.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Holy cow, I missed the game, and I think in
this building, I think it's pretty clear, and we'll start here.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Demiko CJ.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Will went to the podium today and the three of
them talking about just various things.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
But if there's one thing that really kind of came out.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Of their discussion with the media on Monday, it basically
was there's a high standard here. We're looking to set
that every single day, and we want guys in this
building that will approach that standard and set that standard
for everybody else that walks in this building. We're very

(05:59):
proud of what we have built and what we want
to continue to build, and there could be no better
members of this organization than those three to get up
there and spread that word, spread that that standard.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Gospel, if you will.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
In fact, we'll talk with Henry Toatoya a little later
in the show and he's he mentions that as well.
It's a really fun conversation with Henry that you'll definitely
want to listen to as well, So don't miss that.
Stick around for that. But that's what I took out
of it, Mark that we do things this way. If
we're bringing you in here for the draft, this is

(06:32):
going to be expected whether you have it already and
this WILLOK sentuate it, or you don't have it and we're.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Gonna get it out of you either way.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
And Henry's going to give you a great perspective on
what it's like to be drafted and new in the
NFL as opposed to what it's like in years two
and three.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yep, he's going into year three right now, he's been
this is year three. Yeah, well, like he just got here.
He's a vet.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I mean, I'm looking at Will Anderson Junior up at
the podium today and I'm thinking, thank god we have
Will Anderson Junior. Ye think about the start to his
career because you drafted him third overall, and I'm old
enough to remember Mario Williams number one overall, a Genevian Clowney,
number one overall, and Will Anderson Junior is off to
the kind of start they dreamed about in his first

(07:14):
two years. You know, Mario had a great second year,
I get it, and look Cloudy had all sorts of talent.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Those two guys.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Both of them were hampered by some injuries, but willis
played banged up and Will has put together some numbers,
defensive Rookie of the Year, and then look what he
does last year with Danil on the other side. My goodness,
I'm so excited about year three. And he's such a
veteran now, and I'm thinking, geez, this thing flies by,
doesn't it.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
You brought it up after they were done.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Hey, two years ago Draft Week Monday, we didn't even
know what the Texans were gonna do. They didn't know
they were gonna have both of those guys. Now those
guys are headed into year three. Wow, we thought there
was a chance for one of them. Yeah, yeah, because
remember I was one of them. I was gonna bring
this up last year. I mean my memory after the
two twenty twenty two draft when they took Stingley and

(08:02):
Kenyon Green in the first round, and I remember Clinton
Ron talking about this, this Will Anderson junior guy. Next year,
he's got to be the number one overall pick. This
guy's sensational, blah blah blah. And that's how a lot
of people felt. And I bring that up because I thought, yeah,
that's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
But I don't know if we're going to.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Be bad enough to get a guy like Will Anderson
junior because we won't draft that high, but well, the
Texans were kind of bad enough to do that. But
number two overall pick, and then Nick moves up to
number three and gets will Anderson Junior. Amazing And speaking
of the number two overall pick, CJ. Stradup up at
the podium today, My goodness. You know he's headed into

(08:38):
year three. He's got the experience now, the way he
answers questions and you're not gonna get him on anything.
He had fun too, talking about the Rockets and Golden
State Game and all that stuff. But he was asked
about Bobby Slowick in his relationship. You could not have
answered that question any better than he did. It was
real masterclass stuff for a guy who's handling himself at

(09:01):
the podium now, like a twenty seven year old veteran
who's been around for a long time and been the
multiple Pro Bowls. He's only going into year three. He's
still really a pup when you look.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
At his age.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
What is he gonna be twenty three, twenty four years old? Yeah,
my gosh. And it goes back to I know I
point this out from time to time because I think
it's worth pressing that gratitude button and saying thank goodness,
we have a quarterback. It just look at all the
teams that are starving aching for a quarterback, and the
Houston textan have.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
No answers, have no answers in this draft really to
do that.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
I mean they have hope, but they barely have that
because Shadure, really, are you gonna go for that?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Maybe maybe it all works out, you.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Know, and you gotta you know how I feel, I
know how you feel, and you know how my hot
take Milrod's gonna go in the first round. Let's see,
there's gonna be some drama on Thursday night. We'll be
doing it with you.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Oh absolutely.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Andre wher is going to join us and Robert Hensley
on the updates and Aaron Raybold engineering. It's the broadcast
crew really bringing you to the first round of the
draft on Thursday night. Can't wait to do it down
at Abnita Houston George R. Brown Convention Center right in
front of that. So we'll be there broadcasting starting at
six pm. You don't want to miss a thing, as
we will bring you the entire draft Johnny Harris on

(10:14):
the air for every single pick.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Cannot wait, Okay, so I saw this not this would
be a good radio segment.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
The crew at Bleacher Report chest some pretty good dudes.
Brandon Thorn does their offensive line. They get some guys
to do it. They were asked a few different questions
that they turned into bold predictions. Okay, okay, So want
to start with this one. I just want to get
your thoughts. I'm gonna I'm gonna hit these. And there's

(10:44):
one in particular, because you and I were actually talking
before the show about this individual. This is called the
most surprising pick. Okay, one says Ashton Genty to the Jaguars.
I would not like that, and I don't. I don't
think that's too surprising. Now, all indications are the Jaguars
are going to trade out at number five, but if

(11:06):
they stick and stay, apparently Ashton Genty is one of
the players they're considering, the All American Heisman runner up
from Boise State.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I would not like that.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
How many teams draft a running back in the first
round in twenty twenty one, and then they'll come back
four years later and draft another running back in the first.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
After drafting Bigsby in the second.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
I think, oh, Bigsby's a second I think he was
a second and he's their guy now.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Really Etn Etn, I think there's a trance at Etn
could be traded, especially if they take Genty. I think
they could try and trade Etn. They might just have
to release him after that. What are they gonna get.
They're not They're not gonna get much. I mean Etn
is just he's uh big, he's a third. Yeah, he's
a third.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
Still pretty high for a running back that I don't
think that's too much of.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
A bold prediction.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
I mean, I think it could be surprised, a surprising pick,
maybe most surprising pick, next one, Raiders selection or Sanders
sixth overall, I could see that. My mock for or
my comp for Chador is Gino Smith, so I could
see that.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Well, he'd have to wait because you're paying Gino. But
the hope is that Chador plays or back doors so
well that you give him an opportunity, and then you
have that problem. And Pete Carroll's been through with you know, Matt,
Matt Flynn before.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
That's right, that's right, he has been through it, Matt
Flynn before.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Here's one wide receiver one will be a Mecca Abuca
in the draft most surprising pick. A Mecca Abuca is
wide receiver one. That's a bold prediction. Is he the
right safest wide receiver pick? And I think that might
be why people now it depends on how you classify
Travis Hunter. I mean, he's kind of both ways. But

(12:45):
if you're talking to is like pure receiver, take Travis
out of it. He's take Travis Horn. You've got Ted McMillan.
You've got a Mecca Buca, golden golden. A Mecca Buka
is going to be wide receiver one. Yeah, I don't know.
That's a that's a fairly hot take. I have read
some people saying Abuca falls all the way out of

(13:06):
the first round. I'm like, exactly, I was gonna just
watch that happened to me and my mock, And when
I do my mock, I'm trying to fit a team
need and best player available and all that kind of stuff.
I couldn't find a spot for him. Wow, I couldn't
find a spot because I knew that with Zabel on
the board, I wanted Zabel for the Texans.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
So I took Zabel at twenty five.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Because if he was able to go off the board,
I would definitely consider it a Mecca a Buka. I
absolutely would have, but I had Golden off the board,
had McMillan off the board.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
So to me, this is kind of a wild take.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
And yet to your point, I think it might be
the safest on the board, and so that therefore he
goes wide receiver one, a Mecca Buka wide receiver one
that would be surprising. Is no doubt New Orleans Saints
reach for quarterback Jackson Dart at number nine. So I'm
gonna ask this at the draft party. It's not us,

(13:55):
it's the Saints. I get it. But if the Saints
are to take Jackson Dart in front of Shador Sanders,
I gotta think it's a talking point for the next hour. Absolutely,
I think it's a talking point for the entire draft
of the next drop is officially on. Now he's just speculated,
it's hypothesized. I mean, he could end up going to
Cleveland for all we know. But if he slips by

(14:17):
the Saints, then who's gonna take him without a team
moving up, It's not gonna be the Bears, forty nine, Ers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Colts.
Maybe maybe cold Ballard was asked today at his press
conference about it, and he didn't dance around, and he said, yeah,
if a quarterback's there, do we like, we'll take him.
Not doesn't mean he's gonna take him, but he's not
shying away from it.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
This smart thing to say. It's a great thing. Now
teams can wheel and deal and you know you gotta
say it. You gotta say it now.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Yeah, he can be like, he's not disrespecting Daniel Jones
or Anthony Richardson by saying it. It's not like Nick
Cassio saying, oh, yeah, we'll take.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
A quarter back twenty five.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
He actually said the exact opposite.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Everything's in play except for quarterback.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
I mean, it's a foreign competition in Indianapolis, so competition
between two or three guys. So there you go, another
surprising one the Giants. Now on the flip side, the
Giants select Shador Sanders with the third overall pick, the
closer we get to the draft, and you know, I've
felt this way for a while. Yeah, I've been convinced
that that Schador is not going in the top three.

(15:18):
And if he doesn't go in the top three, the
next kind of filter net is at nine with the
Saints and just kind of reading some.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Of the things about the Saints this weekend.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
I don't get the feeling that they have Shador in
their sights and so I don't think it's there. So
to me, the Giants selecting Shador Sanders I would be
equal parts. Yeah, they need a quarterback, I guess, even
though they've got Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. On the
flip side, I can't believe he went this high, So
I'm kind of that one. I from a surprise factor,

(15:51):
I think I would be more surprised than not if
he goes to the Giants.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
So wait, more surprising the Giants take him, or that
the Saints take Dark Oh he slips, which is more surprising.
I think the Giants taking them is not that surprising.
Somehow they talk themselves into it. We're gonna get fired,
and says Joe Shane and Brian Dable, we better just
take a quarterback and roll the dice. Even though we
have Russell Wilson, he could end up playing and at

(16:18):
least getting nurtured under Russell Wilson. Maybe he plays the
back half of the season. I'm not going anywhere, so
let me go conspiracy theorist. What you remember HBO's Hard
Knocks offseason last year, right?

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Remember that?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
So Shane's son is gonna say, you don't have to
draft Sanders?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
No, what does John Merris say?

Speaker 2 (16:36):
He says, don't embarrass me, because when Shane kind of
poo pooed the idea of bringing back Saekwon Barkley, John
Mayra was like, look, man, this is the guy that
the fans all love, and it would be the one
guy that hurts me. And then he goes for over
two K and they win a Super Bowl in Philly.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yeah, Like, I gotta think.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
If I'm John Maher, I'm like, hey, man, I told
you about Saquon and you didn't listen. Now I feel
good about your Sanders. I mean, Joe Shane, what do.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
You say the owner? Pick?

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I mean, that's my conspiracy theory that if he does
go at number three, that's not Joe Shane and Brian
Daviles pick.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I don't know John Marra.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I've met John Marra, though we actually talked about Westchester
County and stuff like that because I grew up there. Anyway,
this does not give me insight into John Merris's thoughts
about Sanders. I just thought a name drop right there
and minored in name dropping. But I got a feeling
he doesn't feel that way about Shador Sanders. Do the
fans feel that way in New York about Shador Sanders?

(17:38):
I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
In fact, to Josh sh Milk from the Giants, and
we were talking about Senior Bowl, and he was no,
he wasn't dead set against it, but it was a no.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
It wasn't myself.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Hell no, it was like see and Schmilk, by the way,
folks works for the Giants. He does shows for them.
He's really talented, great and they have a great audience.
If he feels like he couldn't sell it to the fans,
I got a bad feeling about the fan reaction. His
take on the fan fules regarding Sanders. Plus, they reached
on Daniel Jones. Now we can all say that. You know,

(18:10):
for a while, it was like maybe they did. They did,
so they reached on Daniel Jones. Are they going to
reach on Sanders again? You're gonna reach on a quarterback again?
Now I know it's years later, but it's not gonna
feel good at the moment. Now, maybe it all works out,
but you don't know. We're talking about draft day feelings here, Okay,
biggest draft day trade.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Okay, I want you to tell me which of these trades,
Okay they came up with, has bold predictions.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Is most likely to happen? All right, most likely to happen?

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Okay, right here, Falcons trade up for Penn State Edge
Abdua Carter.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
I'll help you with that one. Hell no, they don't
have enough draft capital. Okay, they picked fifteenth currently, right.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
The Panthers at number eight trade into the top three
for Abdul Carter.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Who are they gonna dance with?

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Maybe the Browns because the Browns feel like, look, we're
not gonna they we don't like these quarterbacks. Will drop
down to eight and we'll get dart or something. Or
maybe we'll get Sanders at eight. Anyway, maybe, so I guess,
and we may picks. They need picks the Panthers. Yeah,
the Panthers are sitting okay, but they were going just

(19:16):
need picks.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
They need to make any more bodies.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Defensively, Saints move up for a quarterback. No, I don't
see that. No. Chargers trade up to number thirteen for
a tight.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
End Okay, they picked twenty second, twenty seconds, so you
have them going to Miami spot. But what tight ened
the Miami tight end? Because Warren's gone by then?

Speaker 2 (19:34):
You would think Warren's gone by then. But Jim Harbaugh
coached at Michigan. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Michigan's tight end Colston Loveland. Isn't he gone by then?

Speaker 2 (19:43):
By thirteen? I don't think I had him. I had
Loveland going to the Chargers at number twenty two.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Okay, you sold me. This is the most likely one.
I think that's likely.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
YEA Raiders trade back into the first round, for sure,
Sanders like, I could see that for sure. That one
that makes sense, as does this one. New York Giants
trade up for quarterback Jaylen Milroe Wait trading up into.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
The first right into the first round. Oh, I think
that's that's outstanding.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
The Cleveland Browns trade back into the first round to
get their firm new franchise quarterback, so they've got all
three of them. But here's the one right at the
very end that made me puke boy. The Philadelphia Eagles
trade up into the top twenty to select Alabama right
guard Tyler Booker.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Oh, and they jump to Minnesota's pick at twenty.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Oh my god, Mark, I will lose it. I will
cry on the edge. Will not let it happen. It
will not let this happen. This happened to some previous nmes.
It will not happen to Nick Cassario. Listen, Quescy, you
are in the NFC. You cannot trade with the Eagles.
Just call Nick and say Nick, look how he's calling.

(20:53):
He wants to come up for Booker. What do you
gotta do? One pick? What's it going to be? All right,
we'll give you next year fourth or whatever? Okay, one pick?

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Good? Make the deal. Do not do not let Philadelphia
up for Booker. What did Rick trade? Hitting me?

Speaker 3 (21:09):
What did Rick trade to get up to It wasn't
like a sixth, Yeah it was.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
It's not a fourth. It's not one spot that's well
worth it.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
It definitely is well worth it. Biggest deal of the draft.
These are all kind of guys off the beaten path.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
In some sense.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
I could see any of these guys in the Texans
quin Shawn Judkins, Willhouse Stay running back, Jalen Walker from
Georgia at Texas went draft him.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Uh, Kyle Williams Washington State's guy. I love.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Ozzie Trabillo played for your guy, Bill O'Brien at Boston
College like a tackle.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Harold Fanning from Bowling Green. He's got a number of
guys who are gonna get picked at this draft.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Yeah, Donovan is a rocker who's gonna go probably late first,
early second, good edge players.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
What were all those years the Longhorns had like one
guy or no players.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Picked in some cases, this year it's like a dozen.
It might be a dozen.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
But BC's got guys going. Okay, if it's like I
could have to them.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Cam Horsley is Steven's tackle, donovs Roku Pete Kendall son.
Remember Pee Kendall played at BC ninety three. I think
it was his son. Drew Kendall is a center as
a Trapillo. Steve Trapillo's son plays right tackle. H that's four,
I know for sure. That might be a couple others
that might be like five or six. Come on, BC,
good job finished six and six, so you know, uh,

(22:27):
But here here are their hottest Here their hottest draft
draft takes. Yeah, the Cleveland Brown should trade down from
one from number two overall, but won't.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
I mean, I hate that because yeah, they.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
Can get they can get Carter, or they're gonna draft
Hunter if they they draft.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
But still they won't trade down because is there a
trade worth trading down? Two to tangle, I don't like
these the the right Well, you should trade down.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
The Texans should trade down.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Yeah, but you gotta have you give us the partner. Yeah,
who's the partner. Who's the partner that wants to go
back up? That's that's the other one. Despite all the
valid concerns surrounding him. Should her Sanders is absolutely worth
the risk in the middle of the first round, middle
of the first round.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yeah maybe. I guess here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
If you go in the middle of the first round,
or you go middle of late first round, you're better
off because you're going to a better team. You would
think you might be the piece they're not, and you've
got things surrounding you already. They don't have to build
it up and you don't have to carry the team.
That might be better for Shadure more running backs and
tight ends going round one than quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
And wide receivers.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
That's that's wild to think about, because I could warm
running backs and tight ends because you have two tight ends, at.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Least in the fact Warren Lovely may maybe get a third, but.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
Two running backs gent for sure and genty for sure,
probably a Marion Hampton and maybe Travon Henderson. So your
Joe Mixon look like yep, I think wide receivers.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
You're gonna get three.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
You'll get Travis, You'll get t mac get Golden and
maybe one more. Put it with Cam Woden. That's a
pretty good one, though, I think it's still going to
go the other way.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
So if you're the Browns of the Giants and Travis
Hunter's right there, and you like him, but what do
you like him for?

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Are you really planning on? Now?

Speaker 3 (24:14):
I know you like this idea, but maybe they don't.
So does that take them out of picking him because
they may not use him? On about hot take? Here
Hunter drops out of the top five. Oh, that's five
sizzled fires. That's five You've lost your hot take mind. Okay,
I've lost my HoTT an athlete. But will he play

(24:35):
the way I want him to? I think he's a defender. No,
I think he's a receiver.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
No.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
I don't want him to play both sides, right, I
don't want him doing this right? It makes practice a nightmare.
This is the NFL. We don't score around like this.
That's right, all right, I'm just croating Team X here,
whoever that might be.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Patriots pass on him. I think the Jacks. There's no
way he gets by the Jags. There's no fuel, there's
no way he gets by the Jacks. I mean the
Jags just say, well, we're gonna take him and playing
Matt wide receiver. You're to sellick tickets and take the
top offs. Exactly right, that's exactly right. But who played
both ways with the Patriots? Mike Rabel.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Yeah, but not.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Extensively extend some play stuff. I'm fine with that part
of it. I just don't know if I want to
play in you know, thirty snaps here, thirty snaps there.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Here's the way I would approach it. This means something
to you, right, Yeah? I sit him down and say
this means something to you. Yeah, I want to play
both sides. Then here's what I expect. You're going to
learn the playbook or whatever side we like. Your home
your home is offense, right, but you were going to
put in additional hours to learn the defense. You want

(25:38):
to do this you're gonna put an additional hours on
defense and you're not playing full on that second side
of the ball.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
However you want to.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Do a defense or I'm not a coaching expert. You are,
but I feel it's not easier. But I feel like
you got to live on defense and sprinkle it in
on all I think. I think that's opposed to living
on offense and sprinkling in defense.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
That's the way I would go. Okay, that's the way
I would go. The way I would go is like
with us, as I've said, he would be my number
two or three wide receiver. Yeah, so there's a certain
package that he would have, and then he would be
my nickel. He would go outside in nickel situations and
Kamari would bump inside. So he doesn't play full time

(26:21):
on either, but he plays like sixty to seventy five
percent on both. Now the onus is on him, on
him to make sure he knows what the hell he's doing.
He's not going out on that field if he doesn't
know what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
I just feel like, you know, it's the NFL. Man,
you got I know so much tape. I know in
college you can smoke by guys, you know you're playing against.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
It's a different dude, I will admit in, Guys, I've
studied in what he can do. Like you watch him
at his best at both positions. You're like, damn, he's
wide receiver one and CB one in the same day.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
And how many Jersey retirement questions as he could have
to answer? That was ridiculous, by the way, so easy
to call it. They're so stupid, it's so dumb. I look,
they retire numbers way too quick in sports.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Anyway.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Did you hear what Dion said? We gotta wait for
them to die before we retire their number. You get
out of dodge, stop man. Yeah no, I mean I
don't know. Dion has not looked great in this whole situation.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
He is not.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
He opened his mouth and he's contradicting himself all over
the place exactly. Not not good whatsoever. This is one,
uh final hot take. This will be just the third
time since twenty twelve that four or fewer offensive linemen
will be drafted in the first round. That's one that's

(27:43):
from Brandon.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Thor feel that way. Even if there's a run, I.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Think there's a run, I think there has to be
a run mark every single team. So I'll just do
this because I haven't pulled up because I was doing
a mock draft simulator.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
This is on.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
This is pff pff. When you do mock draft simular,
they give you the needs for each team. Okay, So
with each pick, number three, Giants need to tackle. Number four,
Patriots need to tackle. They need guards to the Raiders
need to tackle, the Jets need to tackle. The Saints

(28:20):
could use offensive line interior. The forty nine Ers could
use guard and tackle. Cowboys could use the guard Grays
I'm sorry, Dolphins guard tackle Falcon, the Colts guard Falcons, center,
Cardinals guard, Bengals guard, Seahawks center guard, Broncos center, Pittsburgh tackle. Obviously,

(28:45):
we know what we need here offensive line here in Houston.
I mean, there is no way they're gonna be at
least five. At least five they're gonna go, right and
that I just got through twenty five. I mean I
didn't even get through the rest of them. But the
Ravens could use the guard. After losing John Simpsons to
the Jets, they they've needed a guard.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
So there are.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Too many that need offensive linemen that yes, the offensive
Lineman is draft are flawed. I understand that, and I'll
be the first one to tell you that, And that's
kind of the way I've felt about this group. But
there is still still a lot that you can gain
by drafting Kelvin Banks, Junior Arma, Membu, et cetera, even

(29:22):
a guy like Josh Simmons. And I know that Simmons
has been kind of rumored to not be as swarmy
as some of the others, but I just feel like,
after watching the Eagles and watching what the Eagles did,
you'd be hard pressed to go up now.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
We don't want to look like that.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
What.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
No, They've drafted offensive lineman year after you after and
it works.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Yeah, so it works, and it works Based on what
you just said, I agree with you. Yeah, I've got
a sting. You gotta rate this one real quick. Okay, cornerback.
They're gonna draft one with their first One of their
first four picks will go to a corner. The Houston
Texans and Nick could be trading, so maybe one of
those picks ends up in the fourth round. But I'm

(30:01):
telling you, I think they need depth of corner I
just have a gut feel on this.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
I don't think you're wrong. So I'm gonna say three
and a half. Okay, three and a half because remember
last year at this point, what would we have said.
If you were like, they're gonna take tackle in the
top two rounds. I would have had you probably committed
at that point because you were just completely.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
But that was an early indicator that they were gonna
blow this thing up if it didn't work.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
You want to know something when that pick happened with
Blake Fisher, that's exactly what went on in my brain.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Yeah. I didn't say it. I didn't say overall time,
but I was like, did you said? Look, you can
kind of see it. He'll play right tackle eventually.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
And that's what he's doing. That's the thought. So it'll
definitely be interesting. A guy that is all kinds of
interesting is our good buddy Henry to it too, He
joins us. Next, we had a great time talking with Henry.
Stay tuned right here for that interview. Next on Texans
All Access. Welcome back this Monday edition Texans All Access
from Monday Texans Radio Studio. I am John Harris, your host,

(31:02):
football analyst, sideline reporter for your Houston text.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
It's so glad to be with you as we are.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Tuesday on was at there three days away?

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Three sleeps Tuesday, Monday night, tuesdnight. Wasn't that yeah? Three
more sleeps until it is draft time. Texans sitting at
number twenty five for now, we'll see whether they stay,
could go up. I wouldn't mind going down get some
more draft capital, but that's just me. I like having
more draft picks. That just makes it to me more exciting.
But either way, can't wait for it. Thursday night, seven o'clock,

(31:36):
we have all access from six to seven, and then
kick it off at seven o'clock right there.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
That's gonna be fun.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
And then I'll be with you the rest of the weekend,
seventeen eighteen hours, whatever it is. I love talking draft,
love talking ball, love talking about the Texans. And I
love it when Mark and I get a chance to
talk to the Texans. Today, the first day of off
season conditioning, we had a chance to talk to Henry
to here we go.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Okay, Henry, how's the off season? Ben's bring you so far?
I know you've been working out a lot here anyway,
It's been.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
Good working out with Mike and them and their strength
staff has been great, but kind of took some time
with my family. Spent about two weeks back at home
and just spending time with family, spend time with my wife,
taking her on a little, you know, small vacations here
and there.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
But it's been great. But excited to get back to work.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Is she from your home area or when you go home,
are you taking to her a completely different area?

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Oh, I'm taking it to a completely different area.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
She's going to my stomping grounds and learning where I'm
from and what I do. But she's from Hawaii. Yeah,
so she's from the beautiful island hawaiis. She's from the
town she's from. It's called La Yeah. So it's a
small town about small population, but the community, the culture
there is really really strong.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Yeah. Wait, where'd you two meet? She's crazy story. I
met her on FaceTime.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
She was my sister's best friend and I called my
sister one day and then she thought I was somebody
else but then lo and behold, I work my magic
and did my thing. So different kind of Yeah, it
was different, kind of but it wouldn't know how people
fighting day in these days.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
But it was a it was from a family, so
So when you get back home, what's it like with
your boys?

Speaker 2 (33:12):
People that know you, friends, family, they just treat you
like Henry's been here.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Man, we know him, he's our But.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
Is it like, oh, he's this big football star now
at the NFL.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
What's it like when you go?

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Oh, Man, when I'm back home, I'm just a regular Joe.
My mom don't treat me different. My boys don't treat
me different, you know. And I think that's just a
testament to my circle. I keep my circle super small,
just with people that I love. Probably out of all
the friends I have in high school, I really don't
think I chilled with any of them, and it's all
family members that I'm really really close with. So when

(33:42):
I go home and I'm kicking back doing what I
want to do, doing my boys want to do, it's
nothing different. But like obviously going to football camps and
speaking of children here and there, it's a different story.
But when I'm with my family, man, I think that
that's the time where I'm able to just you know,
do the dumb stuff that I want to do that
I can't do in public today that when somebody records
me and do something stupid, but when I went my
boys and my family.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Man, I think.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
That's that's my getaway. That's kind of my vacations and
why I love the off season so much.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Playing high school ball in California, you had a lot
of options to stay on the West Coast for college,
but you went to Tennessee first and Alabama. How difficult
was it a decision to go east?

Speaker 1 (34:19):
It was tough.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
I think that was probably the hardest decision of my life. Honestly,
was when I was eighteen eighteen and leaving my parents
at a young age. And I come from the Polynation culture,
so you know, we're rooted in family, like that's that's
everything to us. You know, family is the rock center
of our culture. But it was my dad. I wanted
to go to Washington, the Oregons and the us CS.

(34:40):
I wanted to stay home, but my dad knew it
was best for me to go out and leave and
and grow up as a young man, and knew it
was going to pay off for me. So if there
was all credit, you know, my dad's been my lifelong coast,
so it all goes to him and his his ability
to push me and like go away from home, so
like go go home, go away, and grow up.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
So Henry's free, You're one of the year two, You're
one your rookie year twenty three to year two and
twenty twenty four. What was the biggest difference for you
and what was kind of the biggest part of your
growth from year one to year two.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
Yeah, it's a lot of things. I think one the
biggest thing is confidence. I think my confidence kind of
raced through the roofs after the first game when we
played Indie.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
I think I.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
Didn't have the best game, but it wasn't like I
was kind of tiptoeing around, you know. So I think
after that game it was just a huge confidence booster.
And then we played Chicago and now that was probably
one of my best games I ever played. So after
that it just kind of just rolled over. But besides confidence,
I think it was my body. I was so heavy
my rookie year. I didn't know how to control my body,
what to do. Then a guy like a Zz comes

(35:40):
in and shows me his ropes and how to take
care of his body. I mean I kind of took
what he does and kind of implemented my own little thing.
But I think those two things, man, because everybody knows football.
Everybody plays football. We know the ins and outs of it.
That's why we're here. But I think my confidence is
what carried me and then how I changed my entire
body throughout that offseason and going into the season.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Were about to have a lot of rookies coming through
the door here, and what would you tell them? Would
you tell them something like that, if they hear your
story what you just said, I think that would help them.
But what else can you say to them about the
adjustment of playing in the NFL?

Speaker 4 (36:12):
Man, I think what I would tell somebody, And this
is me being who I am, and I know a
lot of guys are like this is specially coming in.
Just be open to vets and kind of hearing their
story and what they do. I think as a rookie,
I was so stubborn and like I was successful at Alabama.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I was a sexful at Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
I was able to compete at the highest level in
college and thought that way the way I did things
was gonna work when I came to the NFL. But
the NFL is a whole different animal. So you know,
I think my advice is just listen to a vet man.
They know what they're talking about. They're not going to
lead you astray. You know, they've been in the NFL
for a while. So I think that's what I didn't do.
I had good vets in our room, like Blade Cashman,
you know, Denzel Paraman, Corty Liddleton, a lot of guys

(36:51):
that were in the room that knows the ins and
outs of the NFL. So may just be open minded,
don't be stubborn like I was.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
And I think the other thing is stapped ability. I
think it's gotta be big. And the reason I'm bringing
it out Henry is we sat with Demko and I
remember this distinctly. Obviously Zis gets a suspension. We're like,
all right, well he's gonna play Mike. What's gonna happen.
We got a bye weekend and we got to play Miami,
and we know Miami is a different kind of offense.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
I mean they do things a little bit differently.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
They show you a lot of smoking mirrors and you
got to wear a green dot.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
And I asked Coach.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
I said, Coach, how was it with the communication with Henry?
And I remember him saying, distinctly, we didn't have a
bust all day in large part because of how you communicated,
how different an experience was that you did it Alabama,
but now you gotta do it in lieu of Azase,
how was that? Do you remember that game in that
way of you kind of communicating being the guy that

(37:40):
communicate with the front.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
And the back that way? Do you remember that for him?
I think so.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
I kind of did a little bit of my rookie year,
but I was kind of it was kind of in
and out, you know, I had it a little bit
done again that I came out and then.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
Somebody else took it.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
But that was like the very first time where I
kind of had to take control of everything and everybody
depended on me to be able to, you know, one
make a play, but get everybody in line.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
So, man, that game was. It was hectic. It was crazy.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
You know, they do a lot of a lot of
smoking mirrors, like you just said, But man, I just
vivially remember like.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
The pressure of.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
Everybody looking at me and relying on me to get
them a call and get them aligned. And they move
so fast, Miami moves so fast. So being able to
do that and get the guys and communicate that and
I think that's I mean, obviously, I always go back
to Disease because Man has been a huge part into
coming to this organization and helping young guys like myself,
watching him how he works and how he prepares every

(38:33):
single day and how guys look up to him and
how he carries himself, and I see that every day
and I look at them. I'm like, Man, So when
it's my turn and I'm the leader of the defense,
you know, whether you know, I stay here or I'm
somewhere else, Like, that's how it's supposed to be done.
You know, Disease does it the right way, and not
saying I'm gonna do it exactly like he does, but
when it's my turn, like, I'm gonna uphold that standard

(38:55):
or even surpass it when it's my turn. So that's
kind of how I prosed it when when it was
my time.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
We did this after the Whistle feature with you and
you talked about the players being a family and everybody
being so close and how that helps you on the
field and off the field. What about that part of it?
You mentioned some of it with a zase. What about
everybody else here?

Speaker 1 (39:14):
Man? We just the way how we I wish.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
I wish everybody was able to just sit in that
locker room, like somebody put a camera in there and
just watch how we maneuver in there, Like how watch
how we shoot hoops. Watch how guys are not even
on their phones and we're kicking it with each other,
how we're having deep conversations, or even in the training room,
Like I wish people could actually see the connections that
we have, the conversations that we have. I wish we
had a microphone walking off of practice, Like sometimes we're

(39:36):
not even talking about practice, We're just talking about hey, man,
like how you doing, Like what are you eating for dinner?

Speaker 1 (39:42):
Or like how's your wife? How's the kids?

Speaker 4 (39:43):
So those are a lot of things, like I can't
point pitt specific things, but sure, I just really wish
that people were able to see how how we talk
to each other, how we love each other, how we
sit in the locker room and spend quality time with
each other, because man, we spend more time here than
with our families. Honestly, so many these guys were really
we were last year, and I expect us to be

(40:05):
a really really tight group again just off of you know,
from the top down, you know, coach Miko does a
great job of telling us this is a family, and
you know we take that to heart and you know
we really care for one another.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
You mentioned this earlier. Sting mentioned it on the Pod
to Pivot podcast. He talked about the standard. Now you
were at Alabama where it was the process, but it's
kind of the same thing. There's a standard that you
guys are held to, especially as guys that have been
around a little bit, that everybody's got to match that standard.
That there is this pull within you, Like you said,

(40:38):
I got to match the standard.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Disease isn't there. I gotta live up to that.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
I got to make sure everybody else is following my lead.
I gotta I gotta reach that standard. Derek talked about that,
you know with Nico, Like Nico sign the contract here
right next day, he was in the weight room and
he's like, we gotta we gotta set that standard and
we've got to have guys reach and move towards that standard.
Do you kind of feel that way with this team, Henry,
that there is a certain standard that you guys play
at that not everybody can be a Texan, not everybody

(41:04):
can play at that standard. Because you guys have set
that standard so high for youself. You kind of look
at it that way, and it.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
Says and I think Will was the first one to
say it, Yeah, everybody can't be a Texan.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
And I mean that's true.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
Man. The way we work, man, We're we're grinding throughout
the season, throughout the off season, throughout OTAs like it's
it's a daily grind, no matter if it's film, no
matter if it's a walkthrough. I think I think it's
just that mindset that Demico has that he pours into us,
like he the way he was a player, Now was
I played with Miko Because the way he coaches us

(41:36):
and pours that attitude into us, like if you're not
gonna do it this way, you can't be here playing
set Like we're gonna find somebody else to do it.
So I think that mindset that we all have together,
like we understand what Miko wants, so we're going to
exactly do what he wants. And more so, man, that
mindset is spreads throughout the entire building.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
All Right, one more for you Draft weekend memories. You're
drafted in the fifth round. Yeah, and I got to
find out from you what that weight was like. Plus
a former coach here used to say, it doesn't matter
how you got here, but you're here.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Clearly you're making the most of it. So what about
all that man? Draft?

Speaker 4 (42:11):
Oh Man, I was uh, I go lie Now, I
look back at it, man, during that moment, because I
was expected, and I thought, you know, that's kind of
the big thing. I'm gonna tell guy, I don't think
you're gonna go somewhere. And you know what I'm saying,
I don't think you're gonna get drafted a certain spot.
But I thought I was gonna go second day, like
third round. So then that whole thing happens. I didn't

(42:32):
get drafted, and then I was so mad. The third day.
I was pissed off, and then I got a call.
If you guys look back at it, I didn't sound
too excited when I got the call. I could have
had more enthusiasm, but I wasn't as happy. But man,
hindsight twenty twenty. Men, I think that's just how God works.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
Man.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
He he puts things in your life, some obstacles and
some trials for a reason. And I don't think there's
no other place better for me. Then here than being
under Miko, being Houston with the fans and and just
a city. Man, I think the city perfectly fits me.
So I'm super blessed to be here. But yeah, after
I got that call, man, it was it was party.
It was it was all reliefs away. All my stresses

(43:10):
went away.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
You know.

Speaker 4 (43:11):
I think the biggest thing out of draft weekend was
just seeing how proud my parents were.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
I think that was the biggest.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
Thing in the relief they had because I'm I'm the
first one in my family to graduate college and the
first one to be in a pro So I think
the blessing of seeing my parents super happy, smiling and
you know, giving hugs and kisses to people we don't
even know. I think the congraduates they got and they're
hard work and their sacrifices they made for me is

(43:39):
what what motivates me and drives me every single day.
I think being a fifth round draft pick, you know,
I'm in here, I'm in the league, and I'm super blessed.
So not me being a fifth round pick drives me. No,
I'm super blessed. We're appreciate you guys so much. Henry,
thanks a lot.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
Thank y'all.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
That dude is awesome. Absolutely love Henry Totoe. Glad he
is here in Houston. I loved him being so forthright
about his draft day experience. Minus general generally been pretty
good for the most part, talking abou all these guys, but.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
I can totally understand what Henry is talking about.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
I always feel like those guys that think they'll go
around one, they got to sleep on it.

Speaker 1 (44:16):
Till day two. Guys that think will go day two,
they got to sleep on it the day three. Ugh,
so so difficult.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
All right, speaking of the NFL, in the NFL Draft,
we'll go around in the NFL next right here on
Texans All Access, tapping everybody. We got one final segment
of this Monday edition that Texans All Access from Monday
Texans Radio Studio. I'm your host, John Harris, Paul Analyst,
sideline reporter for your Houston Texans. We are, Oh, I
don't know, about seventy two hours away?

Speaker 1 (44:43):
Is all right? Tuesday third? Yeah, about seventy two hours away.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
From twenty twenty five NFL Draft. Can't wait. Let's get
some news as it pertains to the draft, and maybe
not as a draft, but a big extension signed by
Philaelphia Eagles center Camp Jurgens talk about a continuation plan
that went from Jason Kelcey to drawl Famer to giving

(45:09):
their center who started for one year, four years, sixty
eight million dollars.

Speaker 1 (45:13):
Congratulations to Camp Jurgens.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
I saw this, and I don't know if it was
at his press conference or at some press conference. He's
telling a story of draft day when he was drafted.
He's drafted, I believe in the second round. He's out
of Nebraska, and apparently they had a tornado watch and
so he gets the call. They celebrate for a few minutes,
and all of a sudden, they hear the alarms and
they're like, oh man, we gotta go. And his grandmother's like, nope,

(45:38):
not moving. So he tells a really funny story about that.
But congratulations Camp Jurgens. Super Bowl champion center Cam Jurgens
gets four years, sixty eight million dollars. Chris Ballard met
with the media today. Two things stood out of that conversation.
Number One, he does expect both Anthony Richardson Daniel Jones

(45:58):
to play at some point. I would imagine in preseason
they'll go back and forth. The other thing you said.
As it relates to that, He was asked, could a
quarterback be something you're considering number fourteen? Ballard said that quote.
If there's a player that we deem as worthy of it,
absolutely Yeah. Why wouldn't we Yeah. Asked if that would

(46:19):
mean it's a three quarterback competition, Ballot responded said, sure,
if you want to write that story, you can. So, man,
could the Colts throw everybody a little bit of a curveball?
I happen to give us a thought. I think Mark
and I talked about this a while back. Could the
Colts look at a quarterback? Nothing is settled? You think
they feel great about what they've got? No, But I
just don't think they're going to feel great about whatever

(46:41):
quarterbacks are left at fourteen. That's just my interpretation of it.
So we'll see what the Colts do. But they expect competition,
and if it's quarterback at fourteen, it's a quarterback fourteen
that would be best player available. I just don't think
there is a best player available for that. Speaking of quarterback,
Kevin O'Connell, former quarterback San Diego State drafted in the

(47:04):
NFL by the Patriots, is now.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
The head coaching instead of Vikings. He said his quarterback
is considered full.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Go say Kevin o'conne about JJ McCarthy, and I quote,
I'd consider him full, really, no limitations. I want to
credit JJ probably has handled these last two to two
and a half three months or so where I think
he's ready to hit the ground running. As of today,
the Vikings have no other answer at quarterback other than
JJ McCarthy, So I got a feeling they're gonna do

(47:32):
everything possible to keep him safe, healthy, but they gotta see.

Speaker 1 (47:34):
What he's got.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
So i'd imagine we'll see him in the preseason a
lot to get ready for his first season as the starter,
second season the NFL. Last year spent all on the
sidelines of the torn acl Okay, that's gonna do it
for the show. Appreciate Mark for stopping by Henry Tote
the man.

Speaker 1 (47:50):
That was awesome, Thank him all you for listening. Will
see next time and as always, go Texans.
