at home. The championship is starting this road. So all
the best of Dari Tresk. How are you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Not doing too bad? Meck yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Hopefully hopefully we can pick up a few wins here.
We've got to replay on Saturday against Thirds and hopefully
the hell can can come out with a win. But
aside from I need to apologize all the listeners because
my WiFi was playing up on was it Monday night?
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Tuesday morning?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
You were grand? You were grand, don't be worrying. I
think I think the best thing was it was just
good to have you back on again. And it was
actually to get your fault in Dublin and stuff. So
it's good, Kenny Believer. Two weeks out it's a bit scary,
isn't it in a good way.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
It's it's crazy to think. I mean, two weeks out?
Is it?
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Two weeks It's that's saying the time is absolutely flowing,
but it's it's two weeks too too, four Awaymick, I mean,
I want has been tomorrow I already so I'm absolutely
buzzing and that's going to be just a part of
the festivities we've got that week. So looking forward to everything,
including the game. Of course, the game is the main event,
but I really, you know, I'm dreading that Monday morning
when we wake up, of course hopefully with a w
(02:29):
but it's going to be it's gonna be a pinch
me moment, like wow, that that thing just flew just
like So I'm looking forward.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Us more on that, I think next week. I know
Jimmy's going to join us next week, so looking forward
to that there. Anyway, let's jump on, lass, Let's go
for it. Steeter Seahawks is This Sunday game kicks off
at six pm Irish time in UK time seven pm
European time. If you are one are ahead of us.
The game folks this week and its glab We're doing
this podcast late in the week so we know what's
(02:54):
going on. The game this week is on NFL Game
Pass on the Zone. That is the only way you
can watch it, so at that out if you want
to watch the game across the island of Ireland, if
you are on the island of Ireland, you can listen
to the OTB Sports app where you can listen to
the Steelers broadcast. Obviously Max Stark's Missy Matthews, et cetera
on that broadcast. You can listen to that for free
by signing up DOVG. This is a really interesting game.
(03:18):
We are going to make our game picks at the
end of this podcast, but before we give our keys
to the game, one of the biggest things that stands
out to me is it's DK going up against his
old team. It's the home opener. A win is needed,
you know, we need to keep this momentum up.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
You're just right to mcaminus.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
The home opener of course, you know, first game of
the season and Acroisher, you know, rematch the Super Bowl
four day which Steelers one, of course, DK Metcalf coming
up against his former team in the stadium where he
actually scored his first touchdown as a Seahawk. Believe or not,
So wouldn't it be poetic seeing him score his first
touchdown as a Steeler at Akroascher against his former team
(03:57):
in the stadium where he scored his act vers actual touchdown.
It certainly would to think mc and just obviously on
the Seahawks, I watched a good chunk of that Niners
game on Sunday, and a field there's definitely holes we
can capitalize on. For one, they give up two hundred
and twenty eight yards Russian to Christian mcgoffery and Cole,
So this would be a great opportunity to get that
run game going and they right there action and I
manchined on Tuesday that we didn't have a great success
(04:19):
on the ground against the Jets, so what better way
to get Warren season up and running. So I believe
if we can come out cleaner than last week. You know,
Rogers sat in the tone quick with a few quick pauses,
which something Seattle really struggle with. On someday, I think
we could do some real damage in early damage for
that matter. However, I do think I believe DK can
go nuclear against his former team here. You know, we've
(04:41):
seen that deep route of party through against I think
it was Ricky Purcell, which eventually has had up the
game on a touchdown for the Niners. So I'm as
in that damage we could do in that zone if
we have Mattcava on form and you know he knows
the Seahawks defense, you know Reek one as a young
cornerback there that that can easily you know, we can
capitalize on. And he knows the weak spots of the
defense as a match and then the week's pots off
(05:01):
Drake Willing specifically. So if we can get that same
consistency in the past game, I must improved wrong game.
I can't see us losing this game of the defense. However,
it does need to stop up, you know, at the
end of the bargain. You know last week it wasn't
up to the standard though we used to. And obviously
the key of the discipline protect the football went on
third downs and hold Seattle to feed goals in the
rediurand so and lily speaking, you know, week two is
(05:23):
about discipline. Correct the mistakes from week one and improving
rastly on the defensive siend the ball.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
So do that. I think we have enough to see
them off and go too. And now look as you.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Jumping in with the keys of the game. Alreally I
love it. I really want to see DK this breakout
in this game. I know we've seen a very you know,
small amount of moments last week, but I think one
of the biggest things last week for me was the
death if it was talking on the different podcast this week,
that logue about about Calvin Austin coming in and you know,
we know this is a big year for him with
his contract coming up. Obviously we hope he says as
(05:53):
a part of this team. But you know, I started
that conversation to score a touchdown last week to really
make that impact you want to see in this offense.
I know you talked about it a bit there, but
you want to see guys in this offense with Aaron
Rodgers break out, make big plays. And we know from
seeing that game against Seattle last week with the Niners
that Seattle are going to be stout. It doesn't matter
if they're in front of the twelves in Seattle, it
(06:14):
doesn't matter if they're over on the East coast in Pittsburgh,
they're gonna be up for this month.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
They're gonna be up fort Nick and their own one.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
You know, you know what they say when your own
one teams are already desperate to get that first one
on the board.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
I mean, the last thing you want to do is
go on too.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
And you know, I think Mike McDonald was solid last
year in terms of his first year as a rookie
head coach. Of course, they broad in Sam Darnold quarterback,
which in my opinion is probably an upgrade on Geno Smith.
I mean, if you've seen what he did last year
from Minnesota, I mean getting in the fourteen wins. Of
course they're one and done in the playoffs, but he's
(06:50):
a dangerous quarterback. He's mobility ways, he's got a lot
of experiences now, one of the veterans in the league,
so they have a lot of you know, what's the
word I'm looking for here, I'm looking for. I think
it's it's discipline. But they're obviously looking to get off
the board with a win as well. So if you
look at their division, I think the Rams won as
well last week. Then Nanners obviously beat them, and of
course you know there's there's other teams out that are
(07:11):
gonna be picking up in the NFC because we cannot
sleep on them. And no matter what I really want
to say, it's go to and know. And if you've
just mentioned there. With Calvin Austin as well, of course
we spoke with him last week last year in Belfast.
He managined that he wants to now break out into
that you know, main receiver rule and I was absolutely
delayed to see him get off the board last week
as well. So hopefully he can continue that early form
(07:32):
season into the next and I'm expecting the big performance
from above him. But obviously you know the tight ends
for Oarmouth, John hu Smith had a good debut and
of course d K mcalf i can't wait to see
what he can do against his former team. So it's
about putting all these pieces again are the wrong game
of course needs step up, but I'm buzzn't to see
how we play offensively and defensively this week.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Of course I'm buzzing to hear you if we win
this game. Man, You getting me excited here. We're gonna
hear from cam hereward in the weak second and it's
something that we didn't talk too much about last week
at length. How happy were you not just as somebody
analyzing the game, but how happy were you as a
Steelers fan seeing Cam back in the black and gold.
I was buzzing't And I know it's not something we
talked about too much in the off season. From meeting
(08:12):
him in Dublin, you could tell how genuine he was.
I didn't really have a doubt that he would put
that uniform on last week. And when he steps up
when he's needed, he's a crucial factor for this team.
It's so good to have him back.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Man, It's amazing because you know all the rumblings from
the offseason. I mean, you know, Tom's getting to the
age now where he's aout of course, he's aatron. He's
been a veteran of physic for ten years. But he's
up that he is now where his defensive leadership is.
His skill set is completely key and I think maybe
(08:42):
a bit more success, you know, protecting the run this
this week, you know, covering them holes and I think
he goes a long way and he's a massive help
to this defense. He's a leader, you know, on that
defensive line where we've got young guys like Kenny bet
Benton of course, just one of the few. And I
think obviously with TJ. Waton stuff, he brings up leadership.
(09:03):
I mean it's it's you can't put a price on,
you know, what he brings to the defense. And he's
you know, he's just an intagral part. So you know,
it's seeing him strip out in that black and goal
last week, and now he's going to get a home
opener against Seattle this weekend and he's gonna bring the
He's gonna bring the game at the a game which
we know we can.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
So I was.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
Absolutely buzzing, just like you mech. I was buzzing to
see him out there last week. I had no doubt
that he would. He's a steel At hard, He's from Pittsburgh,
he knows the city, he knows the team, he knows
the fans. He was always going to strip out in
no matter what people say. I mean, he's an integral
part of our defense. And you know, as you mentioned
earlier on in the week, Tomlin, Rodgers and Cam Howard
(09:43):
three veterans, and hither is our leaders going to this season?
Of course, with the N three behind you you know,
you can't lose.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
You can just feel and you can you just know
that black and gold runs through his veins. Cam Heyward
spoke to the media this week ahead of availability with
the Seahawks game this weekend with she can watch an
NFL game poss on the Zone. That's here from Calm
on the Irishitter's Podcast, presented by Earning.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
You know, one, we gotta get off blocks. We gotta
be more sound in our our stands, in our alignments,
you know, and I think we have to understand how
people are gonna attack us. You know, we we put
some stuff out there that's unacceptable, but you know, we
get to clean it up on Sunday.
Speaker 7 (10:25):
A lot of time and effort as an organization, from
the draft, free agency, everything kind of since the Ravens
game was the run defense gotta be better, got to
be better, and it wasn't better. Concerning frustrating, you know, I.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Don't think it's it's done just in one game, but yeah,
we got an answer for that. Guys gotta get off blocks.
You know, up front, if we get double, we still
have to maintain our our gaps and everybody has an assignment,
you know, run defense is just you know, an uprunt,
(11:02):
you know job, it's you know, from the back end perspective,
it all works together and we can't make excuses for it.
But we've got to be better.
Speaker 7 (11:10):
Camus are just physicality.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Said the main thing, Like what do you look at
what you said?
Speaker 6 (11:14):
You see physicality. We could be a lot better.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
I'm not shying away from that.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
I think just you know, being accountable too. If you
have to be in the gap, you got to be
in the big gap if you have to be you know,
if you get a double, it doesn't matter that you're
getting the double, but I mean somebody else is free. Uh.
And you know, when we've been at our best, it's
multiple guys either defeating their blocks or just.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Maintaining their games. You guys are coming off a really
physical training camp.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Why do you think that physicality necessarily translate over to season.
I don't have a concrete answer to that. All I
can try to do is be a better me and
a better player. I think you know, you win those
type of games, and you know it's easily to just
say I'll, you know, close the book. But I think
(12:08):
our perspective is we can be a lot better and
we just got to find ways to win.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah, how we.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
Satisfying. I'm only realizing how more I'm relieved just because
I'm sleeping a lot better. But uh, you know, I
think I'm glad to put that behind us. You know,
glad I could just focus on football and you know,
go out there and earn it.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Ruling on here on the Irish Series podcast presented by
our Lingas ahead of this matchup, we've already talked about
our keys of the game. Before we get our game predictions,
we're gonna hear from coach Tumblin. Obviously a massive game
coming up. We know how good coach can be in
terms of getting these guys focused, getting these guys ready.
Ahead of week two of the season, the home opener
for this team, two weeks out from Dublin, let's briefly
(12:56):
here ahead of his availability earlier on in the week
on the Iris Shooters podcast presented by Erlings.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
You know, they got a well rounded group, they got
some really capable coaches. They're doing a nice job of
mixing and expanding some schematics to create issues and certainly
at this early stage of the season is a concern
from a strategy perspective. On the other side, because there's
always the element of the unknown, and we'll be in
(13:24):
that mindset for a few more weeks, as will everyone else,
until there's enough video evidence out there for people's comfort.
That's just a component of September ball in this league,
and so I'll slide to the offensive side of the ball.
They got a group man that's really committed to run
the ball. Coach Kubiak is their coordinator. Dennison is their
(13:46):
line coaching kind of run game coordinator. They certainly have
a history together. Although they're new to Seattle, they've been together.
They were together in New Orleans last year. I think
they were together in Minnesota is in twenty twenty one.
But Dennison certainly has a motive operation. He and QBAC
(14:07):
worked well together. There's a commitment to running the ball.
They got two really good capable runners. I think that
was on display a week ago, but you know there
there's more evidence that that can't say enough about Walker
in his pad level, his ability to finish. He's got
a real good run posture and run demeanor. As I
(14:28):
mentioned earlier, they certainly have a motive operation. They're very
good zone scheme blockers. They have guys up front that
are really capable of moving well laterally, individually and collectively.
They can capture gaps, they can cut cut off backside defenders.
Their tackle tandem in particular is very talented. Their right tackle,
(14:52):
they just redid on the extension their left tackle. It
was a first round there a couple of years ago
from Mississippi State. Zabel High regarded rookie guard, probably the
best guard in the draft. He's a plug and play type.
And so they got a real good group up front.
They got a motive operation. They got two really good
(15:12):
capable runners. We certainly have some video on tape from
last week that that should excite them and create urgency
in US as we prepare in the passing game. Obviously,
they acquire Sam Darnold man, and this guy is just
battle tested man. He's been in a lot of systems
in the midst of it all moving around. He's continually
(15:33):
improved over the course of his career. He makes quick
and fluid decisions. He's good with the ball, he takes
care of the ball, he moves his unit, and that's
why they had the type of success that they had
with him in Minnesota a year ago and and why
they won as a football team, and so he certainly
has our attention his eligibles. Smith Dejigma was targeted quite
(15:56):
a bit last week. Not surprised. He's been developing an
emerging since he's been in the league and it's time
for him to be that. And certainly the acquisition of
Cooper Cup helps. You talk about a savvy route runner,
a guy that's really experienced in savvy at finding spaces
versus zone and showing patience and losing people at the
(16:19):
top of the route and winning versus leveraging. Man, he's
made a career of that, and so there's a lot
of things that have our attention. But more importantly than
anything else, Man, it's week two and it's our first
time at that seven day cycle and I'm excited about
doing it at home and acting sure in front of
Steeler Nation.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
It's always good to hear from coach Solman. On the
Irishities podcast, Michael mccudd joined with Dvog McKee here. Dvog,
you've really excelled for it was key of the game.
I guess the only thing I lobbed myself is really
exploit that run. Continued to get better each done. And
if there is a situation where there is maybe that
(16:59):
second for that third and two, that third and one,
I know we've got a quarterback in Aron Rodgers that
can fire them all down the field. Don't be freely
dumbled off. I think it's going to be really managing
the time, managing the field position.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
You know.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Yes, it's the home game that we both know Seattle
are going to go for it. So that's my real
key to the game. Maximize the run that's there on that.
If you had to make a game pick for this game,
let's take our Steelers hats off for a second year.
Let's just talk about it generally. This is not an
easy game. We've seen it first hame last week in
terms of what happened to brock Party with his defense
as well. Obviously brock Party not expected to play for
(17:33):
the Niners this week after going up against Seattle. This
is not going to be an easy game. What's your
thoughts on this game? If you had to give a
game pick.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Yeah, it's it's very much.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
You know, I completely agree with you there, you know,
but utilizing that run game, I mean, what was it
we had fifty yards fifty odd yards against the Jets
defense last year last week, and I just think if
we can capitalize on you know, as I mentioned about,
you know, Christian McCaffrey, so Brian Romson Junior had their
way with Seattle's these on the ground last week. So
I think if we can capitalize on that, it gives
(18:03):
us a real good foundation for as you mentioned, for
Rogers to throw the ball on third and four, third
and five, pick up then key first downs. We've seen
it numerous occasions last week. I mean, maybe the fact
that he knew the Jass defense a bit better maybe helped.
But I think arguably a leaner defense this week, I
think we can definitely capitalize on that. So obviously, just
(18:24):
during jumping in with my prediction, and you know, it's
funny because I thought last week was going to be
low scoring.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
It was. I think it was the lowest.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Over under of all the sixteen games on slop in
Week one, mical, and it turned out to be the
hash scoring. So it's really difficult to call these early
games season season games because most teams are just trying
to find their fake. But not being said, you know,
I've looked up the stats. We've won seven of our
last ten hop home openers. We're a team and an
organization of three on home failed advantage, and I think
we proved that time in the time of game. So,
(18:51):
as I mentioned, I did watch Seattle on someday and
there isn't much to jump out in the screen that
were very young defense. I will obviously get better with age,
but we know Mike Common. He loves playing against us
on and inexperienced defenses due to his own experience in
the league. And I'm just going to keep a shortened week, Magal.
I think the Steelers win twenty seven to twenty one.
I expect to see much of the same as last week,
and there's going to be some mistakes, but there's also
(19:11):
going to be some really good, impressive and improved play
on both sides of the ball. So I think it's
twenty seven twenty one Steelers, And as I said last year,
McK take it to the bank.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
I have missed that. I've definitely missed that over the
last few months. It's good to have that back. I
don't think we've ever picked against the Steelers, and it's
funny when you look at the way the Steels played
last week, and it's something that we talked about in
the podcast they over there for me Da Bug. You know,
really the manner in which they won that game, the tackles,
the pressure that was given towards the end, towards Justin
Fields was huge. I think you cannot put a price
(19:45):
on that momentum. We talk about having Cam Heward back,
one guy we got back in the offseason. He never left.
But in terms of a renewal, TG what always going
to be a standout performer for this team. But when
you look at it sat a minute ago, but you know,
ensuring that run continues. When you've got Jalen Mood, when
you've got Kenneth Game, well, when you've even got Caleb Johnson,
you need to exploit that. I really see a game
(20:06):
where we look at that depth. When you've got DK,
you've got Rubin Wilson, you've got Calvin Austin. We've also
got like Scottie Miller and Johnny Smith, different guys. Maybe
you don't expect a certain times to come in and
play and make those big plays. I think it's on
those guys this week to really be effective. And I
think this is going to be the game that we
see DK breakout for the Steelers. I think DK metcalf
(20:28):
is going to have over one hundred yards receiving for
two touchdowns on Sunday. Give me the Steelers to win
this game thirty four the twenty one and put a
marker down not just on this team, but this division
and we can sit two weeks out from Dublin with
a big smile on their face. Do you like the
sound of that?
Speaker 4 (20:49):
MC?
Speaker 5 (20:50):
Can you please write the script for this game, this game,
this week's game. I absolutely love that. Two touchdowns and
over one hundred yards. I do think he'll go for
one hundred and the two touchdowns, will.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Think I think he has to like when it's your
old team as well, there's all that, you know, it's
and I know you know, there's no ill feeling, the
words the elf, but he wants to do it.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
You know he wants to do it.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
I completely agree. I mean, when the schedule came out,
there's absolutely no doubt he was looking at that game thinking,
I think I might take a rest for a week one.
I'll maybe go for you know, eighty odd yards five receptions.
He's my way and it and then go go nuclear,
as I said, against his old team, and as we've manchined.
He knows the defense, he knows the scheme, he knows
the coach, he knows how to play against this defense.
(21:32):
So I'm absolutely buzzing to see that, and I think
I think you're right. I have him in my fantasy
team this week as well, by the way, and I'm
looking forward to a couple of high scoring points. So
if you're listening to did you have, We're counting on you.
But just obviously on the other guys you mentioned there
and then you left out Ben Scarnik who scored a
touchdown last week. I mean, we've got so many of
those prec world targets that can can easily come up
(21:53):
with a score. And as you've mentioned there obviously as
well about the runner back Killum Johnston kilb Johnston, sorry,
he's coming into his first year as a ricket. I'm
really looking forward to seeing him. We watch him at
IOWA and he's got a lot of potential and I'll
hopefully see a bit of a breakout geam from him
this week as well. So I completely agree. I think
this week is a real opportunity to stomp or authority
(22:14):
in the division early on. Obviously with the Ravens losing
last week and the Browns losing of course to the Bengals,
and the Bengals what they had like twenty offensive yours
in the second half. I think this is a real
good opportunity to set our stalls for the season. I
don't love at you, but I think that's how it goes.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
We'll bring it on, bring it on. Thanks for coming
on this week. We're actually going to do a two
man panel throughout the season, and I know you're going
to be on again in a little while, Davig. Really
looking forward to hearing from you again and appreciate your efforts.
And it's funny like I can see they're chatting the
way through this podcast. Appreciate the effort you're putting into
this podcast man as well. Hopefully we're sitting to and
(22:51):
know and we can chat on Sunday and see the crack.
And I hope everybody listening remembers that you can watch
the game on the NFL Game Pass on the Zone.
You can also listen to the otv S Sports app,
and folks also check out Steelers dot com slash Ireland
for all the information in regards to the weekend in Dublin.
