Speaker 3 (00:24):
We'll meet anybody in the world, and I think we're
gonna win. Next Sundays.

Gets wonderful.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Is so great to see. I am looking forward to
this season like none other.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Likewise that Becker I am.

Speaker 5 (01:12):
I mean, listen, I'm waiting to see the beginning. It's
nothing like the beginning or the start or something. It's
at its most pure state, no egos involved, everybody pulling
the rope the same direction, full it by in. I'm
waiting to see what type of mission statement when we
at the end of the season, when we get there,
what is the definition of play like a Jetmy.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Well, we're going to get there together. Boys.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, no, Look, I mean I always think that coaching
matters more in the NFL than any other sport. And
I want to see how Aaron leads this team. We
all recognize a lot of the mistakes that have been
made in the past, a lot of the errors that
travel with some of the teams. He gets a clean
slate here to kind of put his stamp on it,

(02:00):
and I want to see what that looks like.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Bart, What do you think about the dynamic of this game?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Jets the Steelers storylines of plenty on both sides.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
The NFL always gets it right, you know.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
And this this matchup was made farbi before we knew
that Aaron Rodgers was going there. I believe the NFL
had already got the confirmation. It can't be a juice
to your storyline. This may be one of the most
important games and one of the most interesting games of
both teams throughout the entire season. I know Aaron Rodgers
is going to eventually go play in the matchup. You
know that's historically talking about his competition between the Ravens

(02:35):
and the Steelers. But the fact that you have two opposites,
you weren't good enough. You know, for me, you went
on and it's kind of like a celebrity wife swap,
right when they had in the wife swap. So you're
swapping like leaders, Let's see who does a better job
with this group. You know, I think, you know with
what Justin Fields brings a calmness and the ability to

(02:58):
be able to have a connection with Gary Wilson. I
think he's happy because I feel like he looked like
he was looked over, and the hardest thing when you're
a young player trying to come up is to feel
like you're not as good as or looked on, looked
past right, And you know, he almost sometimes became the
third option for Aaron Rodgers, and you know, it was
good to see him get that extension. But on the

(03:19):
flip side, I think Aaron Rodgers is healthy for the
first time in alone time, and you know, the reports
that I'm getting is that he looks amazing there. You know,
Sauce is so many storylines, Sauce going against Metcalf. Is
he going to be a traveling corner this time? What
does that redefined? We know what that means. When you're
a travel corner. It kind of puts you in the

(03:40):
upper echelone. And now that he's got the money to
be the number one corner, let's see if the performance
returns back to that standard that we're accustomed seeing him at.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Body. How about you?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
What are some of your favorite top of the line
items here?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Jets Steelers, Well, it's you know, it's it's the quarterbacks, uh,
to begin with. I mean they Jets know Aaron Rodgers
as well as anybody. I mean you look at you know,
you look at Sauce and you look at some of
the past rus. They they know, they've listened to his checks.
They've they've they've heard him talk about it, you know
in meetings, like they know what Aaron wants to do

(04:21):
with the line of scrimmage, what he's looking at, how
he's going to go about his business. He's got one
big time target in DK Metcalf, and that story was
being broke long before Aaron ever Simon the Steelers, right,
they were out working together in California. To Bart's point, like,
all right, Sauce just paid a bunch of money. Let's go, uh,

(04:42):
let's go about your business right here. And you know,
he hasn't been a guy that has traveled much in
the past. But I would expect Aaron Glenn to like, Okay,
let's go match this up, because that's gonna be Aaron's
first look in a lot of cases. And let's just
see how Sauce handles it. He had he had trouble
last year, you know, more penalties that he probably wanted

(05:03):
to have at leastee, if he can cut those down,
that's part of it.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
And then Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Was he was four and two as a Steelers quarterback
and you know he was uh, you know, Russell Wilson
was put in his place. I thought Justin was playing
really well at the time those first six games. He
had a chance to beat the Dallas win the Dallas game.
When he left the field against Dallas, they were up
by field goal. They end up losing that game. They
could have been five and one. But you know, Justin

(05:28):
has not said much. He's not much of a talker.
He wants to let this thing really ride on the field.
You know, Garrett his go to guy right now, But
look beyond Garrett, because I think Pittsburgh's defenses is legitimately good,
really good. They got veteran players, They've got a lot
of good young players. You know, they're they're built for

(05:50):
the postseason. Let's see how the Jets attack it and
how they they were able to put up points against
the defense that doesn't look like it has any week.
This is at this point, all right, this.

Speaker 5 (06:03):
Is what I love about this whole matchup, right, Like,
this is the healthiest that the Stillers are going to be,
right because you know, with this old group, the Ben
Gay Club guys are going to miss five day games here,
five games there. Unfortunately, the Jets are going to get
a healthy dose. So this is going to be the
best they're going to be early. But I'm interested to
see how they use Jalen Ramsey. I broke down the

(06:26):
Green Bay game and it was they passed all around
so off beautifully. They had a spy for justin fields.
But a lot of times I think that in the
box safety is going to be justin fields against Jalen
Ramsey in his new hybrid role slash Charles slash rod
Woodson type of trying to make that transition. But also

(06:46):
I love that the fact that the Jets finally got
that big Fatty and Harrison Phillips because now I think
that the Pittsburgh Steelers may go back to the two
thousand ten, two thousand and nine Patriots with the fat
Algae and Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. So we needed

(07:07):
a big fatty to fill up That can be a
two gap because I think we may get a lot
of jumpbo package with DK Metcal being the only receiver.
So it's so many matchup and the great thing is
we have no idea what we're gonna expect. The wild
Love Game Number one is because it's about coaching.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
To your point, who's prepared in the off season.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
I know you say that the defense knows Aaron Rodgers,
but the coaching staff don't know Aaron Rodgers. Brooks don't
know Aaron Rodgers, right, so he don't have that intimate
knowledge because he wasn't game planning against him against practice.
So I think advantaged Aaron because the players know that
they kind of don't know Stevens was in Baltimore, and
he's the guy that's gonna have to be the guy

(07:47):
to step up. Because one thing we know about Aaron
Rodgers is he's always been able to make a name
a player that we didn't know a name player.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Rather it was Greg Jennings or John Jones or Jordan Nelson.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
So is Roman Wilson that guy because the loneliest place
in the world on the field, it's opposite at all
Pro corner and Steven struggling at Baltimore. He knows what
that is about. So everybody has questions. This course is
all over the place. As ye are for their guys
are planned for their careers.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
I believe you guys are diving into the matchups already.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I I'm actually gonna counter Bart's point when you say
advantage Aaron here, Aaron Glenn has had a lot of
success against Aaron Rodgers in his career. But before we
get further down that road, let's talk about coaching landscape,
organizational landscape. You have Aaron Glenn who's fifty three years old.
You have Mike Tomlin who's fifty three years old. Tomlin

(08:46):
eighteen seasons in Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh they've never had a
losing season. They're a an interesting spot, feels like somewhat of.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
A crossroads, right.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Aaron Rodgers has said this is gonna be his last
year and he's gonna give it a go with the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Where is Baldy. The Jets are the beginning of a
build here.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Look, I mean Mike Tomlin, I mean, everybody that knows him,
you know, respects him, and he's got he's got a
strong voice. They also haven't won a playoff game in
a long long time, and the noise in Pittsburgh is
really loud about that, because the Steelers are about winning championships.
I mean, they've got six You walk into that Steeler facility,
you see six of those. But it's been a long

(09:29):
time since they want a playoff game. And you know,
whether Aaron Rodgers can deliver that or not, that remains
to be seen. But that's that's what's going on in Pittsburgh.
I think Aaron Glenn, though, he's inheriting a team that
was the most penalized in football last year and if
you want to lose Week one, beat yourself, like that's
what's got to stop. And Aaron Glenn has been preaching

(09:51):
that in practice, you go out there. You listen to
him first preseason game, he was distraught over some of
the pre snap penalties the Jets last year and Aaron
Rodgers was a part of that. So I'd love to
see this week, and Bart, I'd love to see the
Jets eliminate the mistakes that beat you, that put you

(10:12):
behind the sticks, and you know that give you automatic
first downs that extend drives like I want to see
that stop. I want to see a clean game. And
that's coaching.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Bart Tomlin has always said the standard is a standard,
and you're seeing it here with the Jets at One
Jets Drive where Aaron Glenn is saying that we are
creating a standard here and we have to establish our
brand of football.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
It's one thing that says another thing to do it.
To Baldy's point, and you are what you put on tape.
Your words and your actions have to match each other.
You're going to say you're gonna be one of the
most physical football teams, you got to prove that on
the field.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
You got to be a badass.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
People turn that film, well, they got to whoa, Hey,
this might be a double chin strive game. Everybody knew
against whatever team that we win against yo or play
Dust said, Hey, they may not be the most talented team.
They're gonna punch you square in the face and you're
gonna have to respond and if you can't handle that,
you're in trouble. There's gonna be a long damn day.
And that's the philosophy. It's funny because they want to
be the Pittsburgh Steelers. They run to run the football,

(11:15):
take care of the football, and play amazing championship caliber defense.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Right.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Remember, never forget that Aaron Glenn is a defensive coach,
and that doesn't mean that he likes their offense less.
That just means that he believes in that side of
the ball, living up to a standard that he that
reflects him and what he stood for as a player
and all the coaches that he has.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
So that's when the juiciness comes in because he's.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Gonna he's gonna coordinate, even though he's not the coordinator,
He's gonna put a game plan that shows physicality.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
Now, you can be physical two different ways.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
You can be physical by knowing what you have to
do and being physical at the point of attack, or
a coach can make you physical because if a guy
is an aggressive all they gotta do is called a blitcher.
You got no choice but to be aggressive. So I'm
curious to see how they go about their business because
now you would think with Jermaine Johnson coming back with
what McDonald did last year, with Phillip's being able to

(12:06):
be that al Woods two gap stopper, that these linebackers
can free flow. And if Stevens can hold up on
the outside with no threat of having anybody outside of
DK Metcalf, that means that we talk about eight men
in the box now respect in the past for the
Pittsburgh Stellers, well, the Jets can do the same thing.
If Sauts can be a true lockdown corner, that means

(12:29):
we get to make sure that we make them one
dimensional as well and bring guys in the box. So
we've been talking about the defensive line for the Pittsburgh Stealers,
but I think with the addition of Phillips, you can
now talk about the front seven of the Jets, because if.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
You go man for man, I'll take I'll take the
parent of.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
Sherwood and Williams with Patrick Queen and whoever his second
guy is, right, I mean I understand that t. J.
Watt is a generation player, but it's it's not a
big fall off between him and Heismith. I think when
you talk about the interior harmon, we don't know if
he's going to play and and and Heyward. He's thirty six.

(13:12):
Now he's going to go down as one of the greatest,
longest tendered Pittsburgh Steelers. Very few people have been with
an organization longer, and especially with that historical organization older.
But I'll take Quinnon over anybody in there. I think
Quinnon is a better player or Jets as good as Hayward.
So like we got all these dynamics all over place,
can sitco step up and return to the player that

(13:33):
we thought he was going to be.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
What's so intriguing is a lot of guys are fighting
for their reputation.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
All right, let's take a quick break and then we
are going to jump into the Jets defense first. The

Speaker 4 (14:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Bart touched upon this before the matchup of Rogers going
against a Steve Wilkes.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Aaron, Aaron Glenn that defense, what is that gonna look
like on Sunday?

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Baldie Well, I mean, the Steelers have been doing much
of what the Jets have tried to do over the
last three years. They've been building their offensive line. They
too want to run it. They they drafted you know,
running back in the second round. Uh, they just gave
Jalen Warren a new contract like they want to. They
want to. They've got three tight ends. Darnel Washington looks

(14:41):
like an offense stackle out there. I talked to Arthur Smith,
like they want to be able to pound it. That's
kind of what they want to get back to. And
so can the Jets line up and like really limit
those first down rushes? You know, can you keep them
at three yards instead of five or six? And you know,
as the game, can you eliminate the big runs that

(15:02):
Pittsburgh want to really get you out. I mean, they
have been drafting their offense line and you know, whether
it's Zach Frasier in the second round, or you look
at you know, Broderick Jones in the first round. You know,
these guys have been drafting high now over the last
three years, trying to build a wall and to protect
Aaron Rodgers. So how do you penetrate that? How do

(15:23):
you break the protections down? You know, whether it's max
protection or play action whatever, how do you break it
down to affect Aaron Rodgers? Because we know he's not
gonna run very far like it, those days are kind
of over formed. Now he might be healthy and everything
like like like we might believe he is, But can
you get to Aaron Rodgers and force him to some mistakes?

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Bart, the Jets were last in the NFL in terms
of rush attempts last year. Baldy's saying, the Steelers are
going to try to establish themselves on the ground.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
What do you think ultimately happens?

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Because Aaron last year sometimes is probably checking out of
a run two pets.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
I believe it when I see it, right, because Aaron
Rodgers believes more in his arm than anybody on that
team's leg. I mean, he had a dynamic weapon in
Breze Hall and Breese Hall never touched the ball or
the twenty times in one game. So let's see if
he can have that discipline. But it's also going to
let you know who's in charge, because Mike Tomlin is
in charge, and that's a different commander in chief when

(16:22):
we think about at the helmet somebody that he respects.
You know, we heard that last year Russell Wilson was
given a forty two to be able to check out
a certain things. You would think that Aaron Rodgers, you know,
gets a different menu. Even though both could potentially be
a Hall of Fame, a Hall of Famer where gold jacket.
One day, we know that Aaron Rodgers is going to
be told what he can or can't do at the

(16:43):
line of scrimmage, and that's a median of the minds
as well. You know, we talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers
and what they want to do in their offensive line.
I think they put a lot of draft capital in
trying to improve that offensive line. But I think ultimately,
if I had to give the edge to anybody, I
think the Jets have been more effective and building their
offensive line.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
I'm excited first.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Game out what a task Mimble gets the arguably the
best pass rusher of a generation. We haven't seen Mason Taylor,
so we don't know what he's like because we haven't
seen him in the preseason. But you would like to
think it's going to be a lot of chipping out
and but also when you think about how the Baltimore
Ravens attack TJ. Watt, they don't run away from him,

(17:25):
They run at him and they and a lot of
times he's put in within the action the option unblocked,
making him have to make decisions. So do you take
a weakness by maybe mimble or making a strength by not,
you know, putting them on an island, by trying to
get some body blows to to TJ.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Watt.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
So that's the interesting part for me. How do they.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
Decide to really attack that side and and go after TJ.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Watt because he's somebody that you can't ignore.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
They got to be the main focal coint on the
on the game player.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Save those thoughts on the Jets offense. I want to
ask you this, Baldy, you got Broderick Jones. You guys
are talking about Troy Botano also the right tackle. Impressive guy.
If you're Wilkes and Aaron Glenn. Do you try to
match up Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson on either of

(18:15):
those guys in terms of moving them around.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Absolutely. I mean, anybody that's watched Broderick Jones over the
last now this is his third year, he has not
been what they wanted him to beat yet. Uh. Yeah,
he's a sixteenth pick in the draft and you know
he's athletic, but he has been beat a lot. And
whether it was at right tack or left tackle. This
is really Fontano got hurt in the first game last year.

(18:41):
He hasn't played since the first game, so you know,
they they talk about him like he's the standard. Okay,
but is he Like I want I want to see
both those guys hold up one on one, be honest
with you. You know, Aaron wants to take some shots
and usually they come off play action, all right, So
how quickly can can you recognize it? And what's your
move to beat it? I kind of like the Jets

(19:04):
on the edges against these two tackles if it comes
down to that. Now, there's ways to protect if guys
are giving you a problem. You know, you could chip,
you can slide, there's a lot of things you can do.
But ultimately, you know, Aaron Rodgers wants to get five
guys out, you know, and have his options to check
it down and those kind of things. But I kind
of like the Jets matchup with with Jermaine and Will

(19:26):
against the Steelers young tackles and.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
The beauty about that body is when you do all
that and you say, okay, I got to help on
the edges.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Oh it's a lonely feeling to be on.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
That island in the middle with that bad man Quinn
Williams coming there, and finally, finally they can't slide to him,
they can't double him because you got a two guy
natural two gaper right there, a big plug, a big
fire hydrip.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
He reminds me their version.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
I think they finally got their Kelly Gray for Helodinada. Oh,
they finally got their Kelly Gray for Trevor Price for
those who are familiar with some of the teams that
I was a part of, or they finally got there.
You know, now he can be Sean Ellis because they
got Chris Jenkins, you know what I mean. They got
a big fatty there that's just a massive man that
you have.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
To account for.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Baldy Bart is quite happy about this acquisition of Harrison.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Oh I know. I mean there's not a morning that
we've been in the studio there where Bart hasn't said,
where's our fat guy.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Okay, you guys were talking about that tight ends before Bart,
what's the game plan against friar Mouth and John new Smith?
John O Smith of course acquired from the Dolphins in
the offseason, so I mean their production if you put
him together last year big time. And you guys are
talking about the young tight end from Georgia as well,
who's now in his third year.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
Yeah, I mean, well, we know all about Jon O
Smith from Miami and what he did with us to
win the game where he kind of basically took over
the fourth quarter. We know he's kind of like one
of these hybrid Delaney Walker, Aaron Hernandez type of guys.
And you know they're going to play the personnel game,
so you have to be able to identify who and
what he is.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Is he a you tight end? Is he an h back?
Is he a tailback?

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Right?

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Because we know that he's been taking carries as well,
so it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
You have to identify who and what he is in
the personnel because they go with no running back and
have him in the running back and then you go
heavy personnel and then they break the formation, you could
potentially be getting you know, linebackers on on tight ends,
which is always advantage Stiller.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
So it's Arthur Smith going to.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Play that game where they play the matchup personnel game
and break the formation and break the tendency to try
and isolate and get the opportunities.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Well, you just think about this part. I mean, Arthur
Smith has had JANEU Smith in Tennessee, he had him
in Atlanta, and he wanted them in Pittsburgh. Like there's
a plan you know what I mean, there's a plan
for him on how to use him. He recognizes his
ability to run routes like a like a big wide receiver,
and so I think he's going to be a big
part of this now whether Aaron Rodgers you know, features

(21:55):
him or not. He's there for a reason and they've
always been and Arthur Smith is always been a big
tight end guy. Twelve personnel. Thirteen personnel. So with with
what we're not really sure about Roman Wilson, you know,
and some of these guys outside of DK, I feel
like This is a tight end game, so how do
the Jets gonna match up with it? It's a huge

(22:16):
part of this EA and how they're going to limit
some of that production.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
That's what I love because now you would ultimately say, Okay,
well Cisco, this we earn your money.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
Baby. You know what I'm saying. Come down here in
this box and I see you man and man.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Let's see you mirror this guy and play some form
of a man and man or some type of bracket
with linebackers. That's what I love about the matchup everybody.
You never know who has the heavy lifting from week
to week, and you won't know until you get the
first fifteen place script. What's the true game plan? So
who can make the matchups and game ones. Coaches are
way more important in game once than they are in

(22:53):
other ones because it's the unknown.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
You literally don't know. You literally have one game plan.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
You have the adjustment game plan that you have to
go to, like, all right, this is what we get.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
This is what we're gonna get for the rest of
the game.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
All Right, we gotta change something, throwing this package out,
We're bringing this package in.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
That's the beauty of this is when teaching matters.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
This is why, like a lot of these guys that
come from these coaching trees, they can't coach any way
out of wet paper bag because they don't have the background.
They just have their system and that's it. Well, we
know Wilkes has been around long enough and he has
multiple systems. They's been around, He's been tutored by different people.
His coaching tree is different, right, That's what I'm talking
about when we talk about the beauty Arthur Smith.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
You know, there's something like kind of throwbacks.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
Right, even though Aaron Glenn is the first time head
coach fifty three years old, he's a throwback. Comes back
from Sean Payton, comes back from Bill Parcels. So like,
I feel like we don't have teachers like we used to.
We have teachers that have their systems. If their system
is broken, they don't have a personnel to match it,
then the whole game plan goes to hell. But these

(23:57):
are traditional coaches that are teachers that were taught football,
not systems.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
I can coach four to three, I coach a three four,
it don't matter. I can coach it.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
If I got good defensive ends, I can coach I
got good d tackles, I can coach if I got
bad secondary good secondary.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
I can be.

Speaker 5 (24:12):
Mainly zone if I have to taple two, read and react.
Or I can be aggressive and cover one, cover zero,
Blitzburg Pittsburgh, whatever you want to call it a need
but defense, that's the beauty. These are two coaching staffs
that have teachers and that are riddled with former players
that can tell you the why and the what, not
just the.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
What all right, before we flip into the other side
of the ball, I just wanted to mention Johonnu Smith
last year with Miami eighty eight catches, eight receiving touchdowns.
You had friar Mouth in Pittsburgh sixty five catches last season,
seven receiving touchdowns. Those two along combined for fifteen touchdowns.
We know Arthur Smith favors the play action game, and

(24:53):
only three teams ran the ball more than Steelers last year.
But it's gonna be so interesting to see see what
this actually looks like with Rogers at the helm uh
Bart touched upon this earlier. Baldi, do you want to
see Sauce Gardner moving with DK Metcalf, Yes?

Speaker 3 (25:12):
I do?

Speaker 4 (25:13):
You do?

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Yeah, I do? Because he's this is I mean, when
you have Sauce's size, I mean all you're looking for
is action like Sauce won. Like there's games when he's
out there in right field waiting on a t ball.
They're like, like, actually do something like this. This is
going to engage him. Like I think this is going
to bring the like I thought he really struggled last year.

(25:35):
I think we all kind of saw it. But when
you when you got a true X receiver that changes
the game with his size and his leaping ability and
his speed, Like this is why Sauce was the fourth
pick in the draft. You just want like you want
to take this. You want to be in the spotlight,

(25:55):
right bart, Don't you want this right here?

Speaker 4 (25:57):
Absolutely? Because this is what they said you couldn't do.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
Maybe this was just because in solid system that wasn't
a requirement. But you know, I'm sitting here and I'll
being funny lit the waste because he better make sure
that he take a little bit extra protein because you
talk about a guy that has to me, he reminds
me a lot of Dennis Rodman being a Pistons fan.
Like he can spast off, he can get under your
skin like no other and don't play his game. Don't

(26:20):
play his game where you get wrapped up and trying
to hit him or hurt him. I've seen linebackers try
and hit him and hurt themselves, right because he built
with Brandy, even though all he eats his candy, you
know what I mean. And I've seen I've seen safeties
go in linebacker, I mean in corners get choked up.
Because if Sauce want to say I'm different, he's gonna
have to prove it because the edges are going to

(26:42):
be set, has to be set against Metcalf because he's
gonna be involved heavily in that run game, right, He's
all the popcorn muscles he got are legit, and he
will try and ragnall you you know, I think you
know you mix it up a slight, slight bit. I'm
not gonna mirror Sauce all the time with because Stevens
it's a very physical, big receiver. That's that's that situation, right,

(27:06):
that has that dog because Metcalf, even though he's a big,
fast receiver, he doesn't have a lot of wiggle. So
I worry about that with Stevens trying to touch athletic
guys because he'll launch and get his skis, his head
in front of his skis at times. But you know,
I think the former physical matchup, he's probably the stronger
guy to go if it's a run. But Sosconna have

(27:27):
to earn his money, has to show everybody that hey,
I just I'm deserving. I'm just as good as Patrick
stan On right here clicking at his heels because certain
is known for being able to be physical, like Reabs
was in a run as well. And the good thing
is they played against each other last year, so that
he's got to feel about some of the antics and
some of the things that Metcalf wants to do, especially

(27:48):
when he's fully engaged.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
He physically looks bigger after Metcalf and those tight ends.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
You got Roman Wilson.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
We'll have to see what he looks like because really
don't have too much tape on football.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Labers didn't play.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yeah, right, so you got to go back all the
way to college at Michigan.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
You got Kelvin Austin.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Man and then you also got Scronick who they put
in the game and he gets after he's a special teamer,
but he'll get after you in the blocking game. Okay,
let's take a quick break.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
We're gonna come.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Back and talk Jets offense, Steelers defense. Jets fans be
at Medlfe Stadium for the twenty twenty five home opener
as your New York Jets take on the Pittsburgh Steelers
at one pm on Sunday, September seventh, presented by Moodies,
secur you seats at NY Jets dot com slash tickets.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Bart.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Justin Fields makes his Jets debut against his former team,
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Much was said about what Fields did
or didn't do in the preseason, but Bart, he only
had nine pass attempts.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Yeah, and maybe he's getting a little bit more practice.
But listen, I don't want to tear on the fam
and I don't want to be in awe of what
Justin Fields is doing passing the football.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
When I turn on the film, I need to do
like this, look real close, lean.

Speaker 5 (29:07):
Into the camera, like is this the Jets or is
this a twenty nineteen Baltimore Ravens. Because I want to
see the most complex run game in the history of
a run games. You got three, you got three good
running backs. I want to see guys coming in motion.
I want to see guys going there. I want to
see the most complex ball handling, the movement in RPOs
and chips and like personnel package, I want to see all.

(29:31):
I want to see thirty different ways to run the power.
I want to see twenty different ways to run the boss.
I want to see fifteen different ways to see a
jet suite or a toss or a flair pass or
counter or I want to see a wham. I want
to see every type of wham you can have out
of every I want to see offensive lineman, find me
a defensive tackle.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Well, you know, Bart, I don't disagree with that, and
you know the But also they've invested so heavily in
this offensive line, Like, I want to see these guys
actually move the line of scrimmage. There's one thing where
you're running read options and reverses and you're doing all
these different, you know things from a scheme standpoint, But

(30:13):
the end of the day, can they win the line
of scrimmage part? Like, I know we're asking a lot
from two young tackles, but they were drafted very high,
and tackles that are drafted high are expected to come
in and perform and play, you know, at a high
level against a very good front. And so I kind
of want to see not just what you're talking about,

(30:34):
which is which I hope Tanner can do and they do,
but also and you know they've got big backs. Brie
and Brailer Hall are big backs. Can they wear the
Steelers down? Like Brailer is a beast. But let's let's
see if they can get those two backs along with Justin.
If you can get to thirty carries that if you
can get to thirty carries as an offense, hea that

(30:57):
means you're controlling the line of scrimmage, you're not forced
to it. You're in the game. We're in the fourth quarter,
Like I want to see them get to thirty carries
and see if they can get to one fifty one
on the ground that that would be no points kind
of come out of the past game. Justin is gonna
have to make some throws, but it'd be nice if
you could get to thirty plus carries in this game.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
But that's that's why I said twenty different ways to
run the power, which is double, double, down, down, pull around.
Let's see, let's see who gonna shorten somebody neck. That's
why I said whams, which is basically a physical trap
on the on the inside, tackle on the nose, guard
straight downhill, straight ahead, no fair dodging. And that's why
I'm talking about cracked toss. I'm talking about. Listen, we

(31:39):
kept Allan Lazar on the on the roster. Oh we
coming down and using that big body. I want to
see you come down. If you want to talk about
stroking it or whoever they talk about, I want to see.
I want to see that guy come down and be
ear holess and t J Watt. I want to I
want to see somebody take the child and say, we're
gonna get underneath this dude's skin, and I'm gonna come
from outside the party like Hines War used to do.

(32:01):
I'ma come over here with these lions and I'm gonna
hit him in his ear. Now, I'm gonna run back out.
Then I'm gonna come back in, hit him in his
ear again and make him chase me. He's gonna be
so mad that ain't nobody coming in. I want to
see how I want to see how well Joey Porter
Junior can tackle. I want to see how much big play.
Slay still want to tackle and you only do that
by condensed formations. Down down in a round baby front

(32:22):
side pulling by one of the best chef seekers in
all of football. In my opinion, I wanna talking about
double chin strap game because at the end of the day,
I know, just like you know, Baldy, it's only one
thing that the Pittsburgh still is respect and that's getting
punched in the face.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Bart mentioned the Steelers secondary. You got Slay, you got
Porter Junior who had seventeen penalties last year. It's pretty handsy.
And then also Jalen Ramsey comes over from the Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
What do you anticipate their back end? How are they
attacking Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Baldy, Well, I feel like they're gonna They're not gonna
travel with Garrett. You know, Uh, all those guys have
a ton of experience one Thornhill. These guys been around
the league a long long time. Deshaun Elliott's been in
this business a long time, drafted by Bart Steam in Baltimore.
But they've got a lot of experience, they got a
lot of age. You know, there's not much they haven't seen.

(33:21):
Just watching a little bit of Jailen in the preseason,
they got a chance to be some nasty, nasty boys
on that side of the field. I mean, Jalen has
always been a good tackler. He's always been physical. His
problem has always, like lately in the last few years,
has just been able to stay on his feet. Double
moves like those things have have really troubled uh, Jalen Ramsey.

(33:45):
He's never been a guy that has had a lot
of interceptions. That's not really his game. He likes, you know,
the big X receivers that he grew up playing against,
like DK Metcalf, you know in Nuke and those kind
of guys. He's not gonna see that really with the Jets.
So let's just see what that age looks like out there.

(34:06):
None of them had really played much of preseason. Let's
see if they can all come together. They got a
lot of new bodies back there, They've rebuilt their secondary.
Let's see if they make any mistakes on the back end.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
You know what I love Baldy about, Like when you
have these guys that traditionally have been corners, they become safeties.
I can remember when Tim Tebow was like running around
running people over and he was a quarterback, so we
had protections. So he had a highlight film where he
would run guys over like, oh, this is a physical guy,
he's big, strong. Then they moved him a tight end

(34:39):
and he had to deal with real killers that he
didn't he wasn't afforded the protections. He wasn't afforded the
protections of a quarterback. So guys came in with that
killer mentality all the time. He didn't worry about what zone,
what area his body I could hit him in. So
like when you talk about this era like Mark Barron
as well, like when he moved from safety to linebacker. Okay, yeah,
coming is one thing to leave out the party and

(35:01):
be a special invite every once in a while.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
It's another part to be the guy that's on the
front line.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
So I want to see how much Jalen Ramsey still
really embraces this. I'm a box safety, come down in
the box and be physical. When Breece Hall is coming
through and like it's straight ahead, no fair to die,
and let's see if that old body holds up. Then
let's see when Braylen Allen comes through and he's coming
with a full head of steam and Jalen Ramsey's the
unblocked guy. And I don't care if you get five

(35:29):
yards or four yards or three yards. I want you
to send a physical message to him to say, do
you really want to play safety? You really want to
come in here and this is your new life, and
you really about that smoke. Now, they'll blitz him and
stuff like that because it's blitzberg and they'll put him
down in the box and he'll probably swipe out to
number one play complex coverages. They'll communicate with him because
that's the beauty of having all this veteran leadership.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
They do things easy, not the hard way.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
And when I say, they're not gonna run and chase
you if you're gonna be sending crossing around, so they
just gonna pass it off from communicate. But with that
being said, sometimes they can outthink themselves. Unlet's see if
they want to over communicate themselves, because you can. If
you looked at the I forget it was either Texas
or somebody where they were anticipated across the routs, but
they ran the old Gator route because they knew that

(36:14):
they were passing it off, and they came down and
passed off and they pivoted out. So let's see if
you can use that information against Let's see if Tanner
can figure that type of stuff out, because those are
the nuanced and the details.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Because you're gonna get.

Speaker 5 (36:26):
Maybe three opportunities in the game to make a big
play based off the schematics being off setting something up.
Because we know one thing about Jaalen Ramsey, see him
throw it, see him catch it. He's a peekaboo guy.
He got a little lot of Delta O'Neill in them,
you know what I'm saying. Like he's either no risky
nor whiskey, you know what I mean. And the new
Delta O'Dell is Trayvon Diggs.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
He's Sammy salz Is here the whole run, but he
strike out a whole lot because he'll take the risk.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
I think we ultimately, yeah, real quick, just to kind
of button us up here. I mean, it's gonna come down.
We've got to see justin fields probably on five or
six plays, like really put the ball right through the
eye of the needle, like third downs, red zone, Like
he's gotta you know, he's got to play quarterback too,
Like he could be the athlete, and he can extend

(37:15):
drives and he can make the defense pay. All that
stuff is true, and he's very capable of doing all that.
But he's also gonna have to make some throw some
stick throws were there's just you know, he's being blanket
you know, Garrett's being blanketed by Jalen Ramsey. But there's
a place to put the ball and he's gonna have
to have some great ball locations, some great throws.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Well, we're off to a great star fellows, I will
say as we conclude here, watch out for two Jets
rookies and offensive side of the ball. Like Bart's talking about,
explosive plays down the field, Arion Smith can take the
top off a defense that is a world class speedster
and Mason Taylor impress about here in training camp. He

(37:57):
can make an immediate difference out there on the fe
and finally here on offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Bart's been talking about all week.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Baldy, get Breis Hall and get the backs out against
no Steelers linebackers. You get him out in the past
game as well.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
They got to let Breece go to work, you know,
and and the passing game. He's a good receiver, whether
it's screens, checkdowns, you know, Texas routes, you name it, like,
get him the football because I feel like he's a
guy that is almost like a hidden weapon because we
didn't see anything really for Breece last year. But he's

(38:33):
a difficult guy to tackle the open field.

Speaker 4 (38:35):
I mean it's gonna be Yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:36):
I talked to Aaron glendor Camp and they're gonna be
lining him up like Jacksonville used to do. Fred Taylor
straight up number one and you think, oh, he's not here,
just gonna run a hitch or come back.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Nah, hollow.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Last word fellas one word answers. Jets win the coin toss.
You kicking off and playing defense and you're putting your
offense on the field.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
I'm just kicking off.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Yeah, I'm just finking I owned the ball to start
the third court.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
Ye.

Speaker 4 (39:02):
I need to know what I'm getting myself into.

Speaker 5 (39:04):
I want to get this defense jacked up three and
out set my my, my, my special teams up for
a short field.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
I only got to go twenty yards being field goal range.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
You got old Bobby Hill back, you know the agents one,
Nick Folk, and you know, hopefully you can get ahead,
because that's the best way to take the Steelers out
of that run game is to go up by a
couple of scores early to see if they have a
band of that because you.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
Know Aaron wants to Bannon to run anyway.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Great. I want I want the Jets fans to be
able to voice their opinions when Aaron takes the field
if they win the coin toss to start that game.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
