Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is a breakthrough on the horizon for the Jets.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
We're diving in the Jets Cowboys match up this weekend
with Bart and Baldy coming up. Now, you don't meet
anybody in the world, and I think we're gonna win.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Next Sunday.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
Gets wonder.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Can't wait.
Speaker 5 (00:20):
Put your seat belts on you get ready for the ride.
Speaker 2 (00:27):

Aaron Glennon said this week he feels like the Jets
(00:49):
are on the verge of a breakthrough your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
I mean, sometimes when you dig in and you you
dig in and dig in, you don't know how close
you are to the breakthrough. That's why you just got
to keep swinging and keep digging and hopefully you are
close to that. And if he feels that, then you
know that's something that he has to portray to his
team and you know, they just got to figure out
how to put it all together, you know, any week,
any given Sunday. We saw that last week with the
Giants against the you know, the Chargers, who were the
(01:15):
number one considered the number one team AFC.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Any given Sunday. Yeah, so far, What do you make
of the Jets after four games? Because you had a
really complete offensive effort against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week one,
but that went the other way. Buffalo kind of came
into MetLife Stadium and dominated from the onset. The Tampa
Bay game was very interesting part as you know, you're
down twenty three to six, you make a damn near
(01:41):
miraculous run there in the fourth quarter with twenty one points,
but they win on a final second field goal. And
then you're talking about last Monday Night Miami, where the
Jets did a lot of good things but unfortunately a
lot of self inflicted wounds again with the three turnovers,
the thirteen final leaves and you'll lose a six point game.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
I feel like they're a team that's still searching for
their identity and their style of play, and they're trying
to figure it out amongst you know, having a bunch
of injuries at the same time, so you can't get continuity,
can't get consistency because everybody's a different piece, So it
requires a different game plan, a different way of going
about things. I think the defense you know, apparently, of course,
(02:26):
is missing Jermaine Johnson in stability that he adds to
the position that you take Quincy. So you have two
of your most reliable professional players on two levels that
aren't there. And what happens is your product gets deluded
a little bit because it puts so much stress on
everybody else because you can't replace them by one person.
But also it affects the special teams and the program
(02:47):
and the operation, how everything works. And you know, unfortunately,
you know, getting hurt early in the season is just
a bad time to have it, especially when you have
a new coach, new system, new program.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Baldi, I say, think it's going to be joining us.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
He's asking for the link again and Katie's going to
get him set up with that.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Good. Well, he did it. He did it for me
one week, so it's all good.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Prince.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
This is a learning process and people hate the word process.
And you're here every day in New York. You live here,
I mean, in this fan base. I can't say it enough.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Passionate, loyal patient.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yes, yes, it's such an interesting dynamic, right because Glenn
comes in and he's only four games in. But with
the fans, and I continue to state this and restate this,
it's been a long time and they just want to
see a good product on the field.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
I think Glenn gets it right being a former player
here understanding the frustration and the lack of patience that's
starting to build as they think that it'll never turn around.
But you just got to keep plugging away. Like I said,
at one point, that was the belief of the lines.
That was the belief of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At
one point, that was the belief of the Buffalo Bills.
(04:04):
You know, it happens like that, and when you're searching
for consistency and a great program, sometimes it takes time
to build it. You know, just because the previous regime
wasn't successful doesn't mean that you won't be.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, right, And doesn't it give you confidence that Aaron
Glenn has been successful and everything he's ever done in life, bart,
I mean, you take it back to his playing days
and then you go as far as.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
His professional career.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
He starts starts out as a scout and then starts
out as an assistant coach in Cleveland. He was part
of an elite franchise with the New Orleans Saints under
Sean Payton, of course, and then most recently before he
got here. I mean that you know this better than anybody,
a person who grew up in Detroit. What Dan Campbell
and company have done with the Lions has been nothing
(04:53):
short of dramatic.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Yeah, you know, nobody cares about how the sausage is
made though, right, And that's usually what happens. You know,
They I just want to end product and they're not
going to be patient with it, you know. But it's
one of those things is you just have to endure
through time if you believe in what you're doing, believe
in your product, and believe in your process, and then
at the end they'll say, oh, we believed in you
all alone. But you know, you have to make sure
that you stay confident through the process. And that's kind
(05:16):
of what he's going through a little different from what
the what Rex inherited. Rex inherited a team that had
high hopes the year before that was considered the best
team in football ninety seven with Brett Favre and then
the injury happened, so then he came in and he
just continued. But man, Genie had laid a lot of
the foundational pieces, and you know, I feel like, you know,
(05:38):
Salad laid a lot of fundamental pieces, but maybe all
the pieces don't fit for how Aaron Glham wants to
go forward, and he has to figure out how to
massage and how to you know, manipulate those pieces so
that they can work for him or get new pieces
in the future.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Oh, I just heard somebody click in. I think that's
Baldy right now, there is so while he's getting all
prepped up. I love podcasting live here. Yeah, a good
offensive identity. What do you make of the steps they
took in Miami last week? Because I'm really encouraged by
the offensive line right now. You run for close to
(06:17):
two hundred yards, you got fields going with the fantastic run.
Priest Hall back on track, you got him involved. I
like what I've seen out of Mason Taylor the last
two weeks.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Part.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's nine receptions over the last two games now, and
Garrett Wilson continues to get it done.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Yeah, I mean a lot of two man routes and
that was smart to heavy up the protection. You know,
you saw the Skipper package or you can call it
the Max Mitchell package last week. I think it gave
him some unique opportunities to really work together. But you know,
when you're going to play the play football that way,
you have to be mistake free and you can't have
the fumble at the end because it takes so much
(06:56):
out of you and it's so much time.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
When you decide to run.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
The ball eight times, its nine times down the field,
you have to cash in to take the pressure off
of you and then reverse it and put it on Miami.
So they have to continue to build those They have
to continue to find the number two opposite Garrett and
Breeze to be able to help them out. And then
the defense has to figure out a way how to
be consistent. And that's a lot to say, but it
(07:20):
could be done. But it needs to happen like yesterday,
and you know it stars with just not beating yourself
first and then trying to actually beat the other team.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Good to see a baldy.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, good morning morning. Yay, good morning Bart.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Good morning morning.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
You've been living in that film room.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Tell us about those young tackles for the Jets. What
he's seeing from armand Mambu and all the film.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
First thing you noticed, honestly they're not especially armand he's
not on the ground. He's on his feet, you know,
and a lot of guys lose their feet, you know,
against elite athletes. I mean you're going up against Jalen
Phillips and Bradley Chubb and you know, Chop Robinson some
you know, high first round picks and on their feet.
But armand Membu has real power. I mean he moves
(08:04):
big bodies and you know when he doubles with Tipman
or he's working up to the next level. Uh you
know what should have been a touchdown by Braylen Allen.
I mean he's i mean they're run right behind him.
But you know, and and and look Fashon who is
doing the same thing over there with Simpson like there.
It's it's impressive to watch now. It's you know, it's
just that sort of you know, we're getting inside the game.
(08:28):
We're looking at just this one little piece. You know,
there's so much more that has to kind of grow
with them, but the actual the fundamentals of moving big
people you're hard to It's hard to find run blockers
that can do that, and they have that, and and
Membo's pretty special at well.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Bart was in here yesterday. We're a taping bald and
he looks pretty trimmed. So I don't know if he's
been eating any pancakes lately.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Have you bought Bart?
Speaker 3 (08:52):
No, man, I be eating fruits and vegetables. Man, trying
to stay disciplined.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Yeah, you look great.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So the reason why I said pancakes is because members
been putting a lot of pancake blocks out there on
film right now.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Yeah, that was trash when you talk about that personal file,
I mean, what am I supposed to sit there and
let him get up? No, I'm gonna lay down and
take me a rest. And that's what he earns. When
you pancake somebody, you get to lay on him and
make them, make them smell your deodorant.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
I mean, I don't know where that is. I don't
know where in the world.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
That's a penalty where it's the defender's responsibility to stay
on his feet, not mine's my it's my obligation and
responsibility to put him on his back. And that's what
he's been doing, and I think I think that's the
play that they'll put in. They'll sit in and they'll
probably get something back, saying that that probably should have
been overlooked. They are very very soft officiating crew to
(09:42):
call something like that.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah, sorry for jumping you there, getting so excited right now, Baldy.
To Bart's point, some questions in terms of calls during
that game, like any game in the National Football League,
And to the Jets point, you know, the Jets credit,
I should say, Aaron Glein is saying, listen, we got
to earn calls.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
That's the way it's gonna be in the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
But what do you make of one specific call? I
know they messed the Rutger deal and Bart brought up
something with Membu, but the offensive pass interference call on
Garrett Wilson, Well, I wanted to get both of your takes.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Yeah, well, look, I mean here here's the thing. Like
I thought it was a ticky tack foul. That's or
sul Douglas. He's six with three, He's not a great runner,
he's long arms. I mean, there's gonna be some contact.
You're running the go route. There's gonna be contact. Who
initiates it whatever. Like I thought it was a ticky
tack foul. I thought Garrett won the route. I thought
it was a great throw by Justin. You know, he
(10:42):
beat him again later on, you know, in the game obviously.
But I guess maybe Bart you know, will have something
different to say here. But the Jets don't have any
margin for error. There's no margin for error. So other
teams might be ticked off about that call, and we're
you know, against Rasuell Douglas, but they can overcome it.
(11:03):
They just just aren't that spot right now where they're
good enough where they can produce enough points or enough
big plays where they can overcome it.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
That's that's the problem.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
That's why it stands out EA to me, is that
there's just no margin for error on this team right
now or something like that to happen.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Yeah, And that's what it is when you talk about
the amount of you know, effective offensive players that you
have that can give you those big plays. So when
you have an opportunity, you get a big play and
it's taken back, then it's just it's gut wrenching because
you got them, you caught them right, you know, you're
able to not get him doubled for the first time,
or he was able to break free where he was
(11:41):
getting able to get one on one coverage where he
rarely sees, and he gets it and he makes a play,
and it's like, well, we need that one because we're
setting that one up the entire game, and we got it,
and we waited for it, we got it and it
didn't happen. So those are just gut riching and you
hope that you can get more opportunities, but the opportunities
are going to be slimming fewer away until another receiver
decides to step up and say, hey, I'm claiming spot
(12:03):
number two.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Justin fields, guys, He's made three starts, he returned out
of concussion protocol against the Dolphins, he completed more than
seventy percent of his passes, he's electrifying forty three yard
scoring ron. What have you made of his play to date, Baldy,
We got a three game sample, because from my vantage point,
(12:24):
I'm encouraged and Bart and I talk about this all
the time. But whereas you can make the argument that
he was better than Rogers in week one in totality,
and in week three you could say he was the
more impressive quarterback than to it.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
That's me.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
I know, I work here inside the building, but that's
my take.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Early well, I thought I thought he played well.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
I mean, outside of you know, losing the fumble, I
thought he played real well. And look, there's not many
guys in this league that could do what he did
on the touchdown run, you know, to get him in
the game.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
You know, it's that that play was designed to go
to the right. He cut it back, you know, and
then he just serpentine. You know, through the defense of Miami.
There's there's not many guys that could make that play,
and he made that play. And you know that's where
they're at right now. You know, they the opening drive
was a fantastic drive all the way around.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
I mean, it's they ran right through him.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
And it's a shame, you know that Brayley gets the
ball punched out trying to score. You know, if he
just goes down to one and his knees down, you know,
you you know, maybe scoring the next play, but he's
trying to make a great play and it gets punched out,
and that's that does happen. But that was you know,
and that was part of justin fields and there was
some runs in there with him, so that looked like
(13:43):
what can be a good offense. But I thought he
threw the ball well. I think him and Mason Taylor,
he could tell that. You know, Mason Taylor is gonna
be a good player, period. He's gonna be a good
play Dude's the way he moves and the way that
he runs and stride that he runs with, he's gonna
be good. And so I think they're starting to build
that chemistry right now. And you could practice it and everything,
but you want to see a payoff on the field.
(14:04):
And I thought we saw that, you know, throughout throughout
the day, you know, against Miami. So like there's there's
there's reason to be optimistic despite the record right now.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Well, you know, we discussed this the other day, and
really what we're talking about is just him speeding up
his process maybe a second or half a second more
that he still holds the ball longer than almost anybody
in the pocket. He has to understand that the safeness
and the calmness is in the eye the hurricane, and
he has to step up in the pocket, step up
and step out. And if you study some of the
(14:37):
best in the game, whether it's Josh Allen or whether
it's Lamar Jackson or or Patrick Mahomes. They step up
and then they retreat to the left or the right
when you try and circle the defense too often.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
And Lamar's gotten in trouble this year with that.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
The defense are too fast and they have these spies
for him and everybody when that football is exposed to
take advantage, you know. So those are the things that
he has to do. Everybody has to get better every day.
But you know, he hasn't realized he has one of
the best offensive lines in football and if he just
he can make them so much better. If if his
process and is delivering the football is just a half
a second faster, and that's something just by maybe saying
(15:14):
it more, being more confident in the program. You know,
we still have to understand that this is his first
time in his system, that maybe he doesn't see it
as fast as he will see it once he gets
more comfortable with his weapons and when he gets more
comfortable with the concepts in the in what he's seeing
from the defensive side of the football.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Unfortunately for the judge, Brydon Allen sustained a serious knee
injury against the Dolphins. Well to see what happens if
he ends up on the IR With that being said, guys,
you think that means even more Briese and you want
to see more Breese and what maybe doesn't mean for
Isaiah Davis too, Well, you.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Need to you need to, you know.
Speaker 6 (15:55):
And so Isaiah Davis is proving that, you know, he's
earned touches. But I think you could probably see more
of Priests. I mean, he's he's seen the he's seen
the holes really good, and he's breaking out. We haven't
seen the big explosive runs they saw his first year.
So can he finish the run the way I see,
you know, Jonathan Taylor finishes runs or Saquon Can he
(16:15):
get to that level? I don't know yet because we
haven't seen it, but you know, his ability to burst
right now is still there and his uh, you know,
I think there's always a little a little bit of
a dance between a running back and an offensive line.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Especially when you have new pieces.
Speaker 6 (16:30):
Yeah, you know, on the offensive line, there's always a
little bit of a dance where that hole is gonna break,
how that mic linebacker is gonna get blocked when when
to cut back. I mean that I think he's still
getting that feel with some of the guys up front.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
But the good thing is the line of scrimmage getting moved.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
It's not like, you know, there's a wall there and
he's got to just, you know, try to find some daylight.
The daylight is being created, and there's a question of
where it's gonna pop and where he's gonna pop it,
and so there's there's stil that feeling out process. It's
only a month between him and the line, but I
think it's encouraging by what we could see. But to
(17:08):
answer your question, yeah, we're gonna see more Briefe right.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
Now, more briefs, but also more Isaah Davis, which I'm
excited because I feel like he's the perfect blend between
brief and Braylen. He's still a big back that can
run in between the tackles, but he has a little
bit more exposiveness, and I think he provides cover for
the Jets because when he's in there, you don't know
if his run or pass, so he has to just
make sure that he's good with his protections. But I
(17:33):
like him being able to check out get dump downs
and stuff like that because he's a guy that you know,
the defense has been a run off. I like him
against linebackers, and I like him in open space being
able to get your ten twelve yards on just being
able to get some screens and some dump off. I
wish we can get more screens from this team, especially
when people want to bless him so much, being able
to draw them man some middle screens, Yo Chan Galley
(17:55):
middle screens, some receiver screens, some spot passes, extensions to
kind of get people to kind of exit the box
so much and stop being able to put so many
people inside real.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
It's interesting you said that part because I was having
this discussion with you know, somebody.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
It's pretty pretty high up.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
I was doing the Rams game the other day, and
you know, they run a lot of fly sweeps those,
you know, and there's just something that takes the pressure
off for quarterback when you just turn around and turn
it to Pukah, you know, or give it to at
Well and let him just go, you know, let him
just outflank the defense. And I feel like when you
(18:33):
to your point Ea about getting a number two, like
you can't just feed Garrett all day long.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
You know, you got to bounce it up.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
But I think there's there's there's plays out there, whether
it's in the screen game or the fly sweeps and
all those things that are out there where it takes
the pressure off the quarterback, but you're still gaining yards,
you know, and it's you know, you're getting six yards,
you're getting seven yards in some case more. And I
just feel like that's a component to this offense that
(19:02):
is yet to come.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
We haven't seen much.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Of Jeah and just think the fly sweeps opens up
the downhill run off of the fake fly sweet because
Justin Fields has a unique ability to hold the backside
d n it may not flatten, which allows the you know,
you know, the defensive tackle or the offensive tackle to
work up to the second level linebackers because you almost
don't have to block the defensive end at times because
(19:24):
Justin Fields can hold them just with the threat of him,
with the ball fakes and hand play with the handoffs.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Let's take a quick break and then let's dive into
this weekend's matchup and start with the Jets offense versus
the Cowboys defense. The NFL Fan of the Year Contest,
presented by Captain Morgan, is back, and the Jets are
looking to celebrate extraordinary fans who will represent the team
at Super Bowl sixty in San Francisco. Visit ny jets
(19:52):
dot com slash Fan of the Year to submit your nomination. Now,
all right, gentlemen, Sunday night in South Florida, I was
probably a couple of miles away from where Baldy resides,
but he was in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
I was not able to see him. This weekend.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
I was watching Cowboys Packers go back and forth. Packers
had their way with that Dallas defense for the second
consecutive week. Now the Jets are gonna face the defense
that is scufflin'. What do you make of the match
up here with the Jets offense going against that Dallas
d Baldy.
Speaker 6 (20:28):
Well, I mean, look, Aaron addressed it. I'm sure right
after the game that's way here. Like the pre snap
penalties have to stop. You can't keep starting one, you know,
first and fifteen. But you're not gonna see a great
pass rush. You're gonna see weaknesses on the corner. But
there's a weakness in cornerbacks around the league right now,
(20:49):
Like there's just not enough good ones. A lot of
teams don't have two right now. The Dallases have issues
at that spot. We saw Russell Wilson go up and
down the field. We saw Green Bay go up and
down the field. I mean, offensively, they've got to score points,
you know, they got to score in the twenties at
least this week. They're very capable of doing it. Their
(21:11):
run defense has been questionable over the last couple of years.
It looks a little bit better right now. But you know,
they miss Micah, they miss you know, Sam Williams, they
miss some pass rushers right now. It's it's a little
bit of an issue, more than a little bit of
an issue. And so I don't know that they have
any confidence to stop somebody right now. Because when you're
putting up, when you're giving up forty like they are,
(21:32):
and you can't stop them, you know, you can't make
a stop when you need to.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
It's an issue.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
And the Jets have to attack that, and they certainly
have the firepower to do it. So you know, this
is a game where offensively, Dak honestly is playing as
good as anybody in this league right now. He leaves
in passing yards even without CD. He's so he's he's
going to move this team. They got they got to
(21:57):
answer their scores right.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Now, I don't know if you can slow down this offense.
They can score on anybody, and that's even without CD Lamb.
So what we need is, you know, more opportunities turnovers.
You know, the Jets are yet to get a turnover
this year. They got to try and manufacture them. That's
what happens when you have a big time offense that's
coming in. You know, you can try and slow them down,
but you can't stop them. You got to be able
(22:20):
to try and get extra opportunities and put your offense
on the other side so then you can get ahead
and you can run the ball and take the air out.
The best defense that we're gonna have is a great offense,
you know, controlling the time of possession and keeping Dack
on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
But to do that, you gotta get some points.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
The Jets offenses actually started, from my vantage point, started
fast three weeks. Okay, they scored on their first four
drives against Pittsburgh. Now against Tampa, although it was two
field goals, they still scored on their.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
First two possessions.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Last week, there were hammering that ball down Miami's throat,
and then it was the fumble at the one yard line.
Bart to your point, it's interesting when you look at
the Jets offense because not many drives or not many
possessions in that first half. Only three first half possessions,
So one goes to the one yard line. The other
(23:14):
is a turnover on downs. I know it was a
turnover stripsack on fields, but that was fourth down in
Miami territory. And then the third is a hurry up
situation where full converts from fifty eight yards out.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
So it's interesting looking at the offense.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
When you have a team that wants to run the football,
that emphasizes running the football, you're not going to get
as many drives in these games.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
No, absolutely, and because the other teams as well. And
that's why you know the game was the first half
move so fast. I thought we were in line for
like a two hour and twenty minute game. I know
it's slowed down with some of the injuries in the
second half, but that's why each possession is so precious,
because you don't know how to flow. The game is
going to go and you have to be able to
take advantage and it goes back to the fundamentals. Don't
beat yourself. Go go ahead and make sure you capitalize
(24:04):
when you have the opportunities. But you don't know these
opportunities are gonna come.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Hey, uh, pal the fields.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
When you look at Dallas's defense, he talked about it,
they're having struggles getting to the quarterback. They're not really
good against the run. They really can't hang their hat
on anything right now. So if you're Tanner Angstrand and
you're Aaron Glenn and you're also justin fields, of course,
how how are you attacking these guys?
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Well, I mean I would I would go straight at
him right now, you know, and take my shots. I
mean it sounds cliche, but you know that's that's what
has worked for other teams, you know, And that's what
Jordan Love just did, That's what Russell Wilson did. And
so they haven't really been good at taking something away.
(24:55):
I mean, the Jets honestly their biggest enemies themselves right now,
and so between the turn and overs and the penalties,
if they if they can clean that up, and I
know it's emphasized, I know that the officials are out there.
I mean, it's just ridiculous, you know, the the illegal
procedures or false starts, like it just has to stop.
And I feel like if they can just get into
(25:16):
a rhythm, you know, without going backwards like that and
not putting the ball on the ground like, I think
they can have great success against Dallas because honestly, nobody
scares you on that defense.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Nobody.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Trayvon Diggs has had his issues. I mean, he Caleb
Williams do four touchdown passes against him. They didn't cover
one of the guys that they that you know that scored,
whether it was Cole Comet or whether it was Luther Burden,
I mean, didn't cover anybody. And so they're seeing the
same stuff on film, and you know, and I just
think at this point right now, you got to take
(25:51):
your shots.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
And I don't know that they've seen a quarterback that
you know, can do what Justin Fields can do. I'd
like to see how they handle, you know, the read
options and the boots and some of the things that
he can do, the nakeds and how they handle it,
because they haven't handled a guy like Russell Wilson who
can't run at all. They couldn't handle anything he did.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Bart and I've said this multiple times.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Now, offensive line playing, well, you're going in the right
direction there, Garrett. You got a star receiver Fields gives
you a dynamic in both the run. In the past game,
Mason Taylor continues to emerge. You talked about a second
option at the receiver position when you look at the
roster and it's not changing right now. But who you
(26:40):
want to be that guy for the Jets in the
near future.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Well, it was supposed to be Reynolds and maybe Alan Lazard.
Their vections. You know, Alan Lazard was dynamic in the
red zone last year. But is that just because he
has a special chemistry with Aaron Rodgers. Reynolds is a
guy that knows the system. Should be able to play
fast and you have to teaset this system, So you
would you you would start there and hope that the
(27:05):
veterans could be able to carry more of their weight.
And if they can't do it individually, collectively, can they
give you the productivity of one baldy.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
What's different about Prescott this year, Well, he's seen.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
The field unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
I mean last week Michael Parsons won at least ten
to one on ones against anybody who won against but
the ball was out before he got there. He's getting
rid of the ball in less than two seconds. And
I got to give Brian Schottenheimer a lot of credit
in that staff.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
They've done it. They've gone.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
They brought Clayton Adams and you know from from Arizona.
They've done a good job of putting this offense together.
Because you if you take a true number one receiver
like cde Lamb out of the lineup of any team
in this league, the way that they move him around
and put them all the different positions, and he's a
great player, and you take him out and you don't
(28:00):
skip a beat, that means your quarterback is like, it
doesn't matter if c D's in there, he's an order
to the open guy, and guys are getting open. It
could be jump balls to George Pickens. But uh, the
running the way that they use all their running backs
in the screen game, the fly sweep game. The offense
(28:21):
is as good as it's looked in a long time,
to be honest with you. And that's without an elite
running back. But and that's without their starting right guard
and their starting center, you know, And so it's it's
it's nothing but impressive to me.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
I mean, last time we saw Dak healthy, they were
twelve and five and he was, you know, runner up
in the MVP conversation. I don't think it's any question
that Dak Prescott is one of the most elite players
in the league and he's playing at a high level,
and he even with Ceede Lamb not out and Pickings in,
you can still arguably say that this is the best
skill position players that he's played since Samari Cooper came
(28:58):
here healthy. So when Ceede Lamb comes to be able
to have two unique vertical receivers and Ceedee Lamb is
a guy that can run all the route tree and pickings,
I think growed up last week and showed that he
can be a number one and maybe when when Lamb
comes back, maybe they figure it out. But they got
him believing in playing at a high level, and that's
always difficult. We'll see if the cross training between DK
(29:21):
Metcalf from week one helped Sauce in the matchup and
do they decide to make that the matchup of the day.
As you know, they had experience because they played against
each other last year.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Pauldy is that where the judge should go.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
This week when you're talking about Wilks and ag, should
they put sauce who? Barchers stated he was locked up
with DK Metcalf of week one and then Mike.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Evans of course in Tampa.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
Now you're staring at the guy at Pickens is coming
off a career breakthrough game against the Green Bay Packers.
Do you want him to travel with Pickens?
Speaker 4 (29:58):
I do.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
I mean, look, look, look his length, Like I know
Waller got one on him, you know the other day.
I'd like to see him trying to get that ball
out of his hands a little bit better than he did.
I mean, he's still time to make that play.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
In the end zone.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
But regardless, like Pickens is, he's not gonna beat you
with his He's not a router. He's not gonna beat
you with you know, suddenness and quickness the way maybe
a pookin Nakua can. Like he's he's a vertical guy
that it is great with the ball in the air.
He's he's an acrobat with the ball in the air,
and you know, just play with your feet like if
(30:33):
you can. I'm not saying you can eliminate George Pickens
because they're gonna target him. But if you can limit
the big plays from George by putting the sauce on him,
then that's what they should do. And that's what I
expect him to do. And if I'm sauce like, this
is a good everybody's gonna be watching. This is the Cowboys,
you know, this is a great chance.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Bart I'm predicting a big game from Will McDonald bald.
He broke it down pretty well what he is doing
in Miami. The stat sheet says no quarterback hits and
no sacks, but he was winning quite a bit. His
athleticism off the edge is crazy. You were talking about
him in our taping yesterday, but just going back and
(31:14):
look at some of the film against Miami. I mean
his bend, his explosion, his spin, the way he brings basketball,
killer crossover moves to the pass rushing position.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Man, he is so unique day.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
He's one of I think most dynamic athletes we have
in his league. And he's also a guy that has
tremendous repertoire, right and that spin is second to none.
And he's still just scratching the surface, you know. But
you know the only difficulty that we have this week
is that you know last week Tool gets the ball
out fast. Well, Dak may be getting the ball out faster.
(31:50):
So it's really going to be on the secondary to
be able to take away those first options away to
give Will McDonald opportunity.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Yeah, well, can you tell us about Ferguson here, Baldy,
when you when you see the reception lists in the
National Football League, he got Ferguson second overall with the
thirty four catches already.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Well, he's he's a big part of what they do.
I mean, they don't beat the Giants if he doesn't
catch that ball midfield, you know, I mean, uh, they
were going to him the whole way. He's good in
the middle of the field. He's a good target. He's
a good blocker. Uh you know, he knows how to separate,
but he's he's good versus man or zone, no matter
what you're doing. He's a reliable target. He catches the
(32:32):
ball and he runs well. So, uh, you look, there
was a reason why they let Dalton Schultz go a
couple of years ago. They knew Jake Ferguson was coming on.
He's been there guy since. You know, they draft him
out of Texas A and M. And he's in an
offense where they use him. You know, he's getting targeted
and so Enry tight end once that, you know, give me,
(32:52):
give me some opportunities, some balls.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
So he's a big part.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
I mean, Jalen Tolbert stepped up for him last week,
made a couple of big plays for him. But Ferguson
has been a steady guy in the middle of the
field for Bart.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
What do you make of the Jets at the nickel
position right now? Michael Carter unfortunately sustained the concussion. He's
likely out this week. The Jets traded for Jarvis Brownlee.
I did not have an opportunity to ask you guys
about Brownley last week. He's got a ton of starting
experience here early in his career, familiarity with Chris Harris,
of course, and the Jets were using a lot of
(33:24):
big nickel last week, swapping Michael Carter.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Out for Isaiah Oliver.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
So what do you make of that dyna and dynamic
there now as we.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Move ahead with Io Oliver if you want to go
big nickel.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
But Brownlee is a dog in terms of what he brings, tenacious,
he's a tackler, He brings a physicality element that I'm
frankly quite excited to see if he gets the call
this week.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Yeah, and that's what's talking about attitude, right, You're missing
a little of that because you don't have Quincy out there.
So this gives you a guy that can set the edge,
that can play in the box, that can compete. And
he's a guy that it's a competitor, and you know,
I know we assume that everybody's a competitor, but that's
not always the case. A guy that really relishes the
challenge and a guy that was gonna be aggressive sometimes
could be too aggressive, you know, but also a guy
(34:12):
that could be aggressive. You need a couple of players
like that on your squad, you know what I mean.
We call them little fire starters, right, Guys that's going
to be getting into it, Guys that are going to
be making guys uncomfortable, be handsy, physical at the point
of attack. You know, I'm so tired of watching, you know,
teams go in these bunch formations. Everybody's like, Okay, we're
just gonna let them have free release and we'll figure
(34:33):
out where they end up at instead of just disturbing
the time in the route by pressing a point and
making sure that that first person can't get off the ball,
so then you can't run these pick routes and all
that stuff. And let the two up two other guys.
You'll figure it out.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
But lock the point, Bark.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Give me a number how many points Jets got to
score in order to get victory one of the year.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
They gotta at least put up twenty seven. You're not
going to stop the Dallas Cowboys. You gotta find a
way to get twenty seven points and hopefully you can
hold them to twenty four.
Speaker 6 (35:03):
Baldy, I would say thirty is probably a good number
in order to get to thirty, though, I believe this week, Ea,
they've got to take They got to find a way
to get the ball on the ground. They've got to
get You can't go five weeks without a takeaway in
this business, like you're not gonna win many games. The
turnover battles everything, and so I don't care if if
(35:25):
it happens on special teams. If it happens, you know
how it happens. But they got to get the ball.
They got to that would give this team a lift
that they haven't seen. And so If they're gonna get
to thirty, they're gonna need takeaways to do it.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
It's gonna be fun. Thanks Boys.
Speaker 2 (35:42):

where team spirit meets personal style. Time for our extra
point by any measure. Justin Fields has played winning football
(36:06):
in two of his three starts.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
He's been good enough thus far to be two to one.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Last week against the Dolphins, Fields completed seventy four percent
of his passes for two hundred and twenty six yards,
and he added eighty one yards on the ground despite
missing the game. Field so far has recorded the second
most rushing yards and is tied for the second most
rushing touchdowns among all quarterbacks in the league this season.
(36:32):
He's got another big opportunity this week against a very
inconsistent Cowboys defense.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
The Jets have a young.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Powerful offensive line, a starring Garrett Wilson, an emerging tight
end in Mason Taylor, and a dual threat quarterback in
fields who is continuing to progress and that could lead
to victory one this weekend.
