Speaker 1 (00:16):
With the seventh pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the New York Jets select armand Mimboo, Missouri tackle.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
There you have it.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
The New York Jets kick off the Darren Mougi Aaron
glenn Era in the draft by selecting Missouri tackle armand Membu,
fortifying the offensive line for the Green and White, which
is shaping up now.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
He ate to be a pretty good unit.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
I love what the Jets have done with the offensive
line throughout the offseason and now if you think about it,
back to back drafts, the Jets get their book ends
at tackle. Last year it was Penn State's Oulu Fashion
who they come back this year with Membu. For my money,
this guy has the highest ceiling of any offensive lineman
(01:07):
in the twenty twenty five draft class.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Membu the second offensive lineman to be selected in the
top seven picks. First, it was Will Campbell to the
Patriots at number four.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
You're watching the Jets overtime the Draft Day one special
presented by Duncan.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
It wouldn't be draft talk if we didn't bring in
Brian Baldinger, our good friend who is with us for
the draft previews. Now we're here on draft night, Baldi.
You know, we had this debate in the draft preview,
playmakers versus protection. Now, two years in a row for
the Jets they opt for protection. What do you make
of the pick and what this Jets offense now could
look like?
Speaker 6 (01:42):
Well, I think today we're just tired of you know,
patchworking the offensive line to try to get through.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
A season with free agents, older players.
Speaker 6 (01:51):
They now have a very young, almost homegrown offensive line
and they've got a young quarterback in justin fields They're like,
we're gonna where we can find receivers, we can find
tight ends, Let's fix the offensive line. I mean, I
think you know, when you look at Aaron Glenn and
who's coming from Detroit right now, you go, that's what
(02:11):
they did, and that's how they actually climbed out of
the Ashes into one of the more relevant teams in
the league and a team that has maybe the best
offensive football because.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
They fixed the front.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
They did it when you know, they drafted a bunch
of really good players, uh, and where they had options
just like the Jets did. You know, Detroit easily could
have said, okay, pena sool or a wide receiver and
they went Seool and it was the right pick and
so and that year they could have taken Jamar Chase,
they took pen A Sool and it was the right
thing to do.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
So I think the Jets said, let's fix this.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
We can find receivers, tight ends, every other position out there.
Let's get the wall built first, and I think Membo
fills a glaring need at right tackle.
Speaker 7 (02:55):
Baldy, what do you like best about his game?
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Six and thirty pounds in Indianapolis and to combine, his
athletic score was off the charts. I believe he ran
the forty and a four point nine to one time
last year, did not allow a sack, and he gets
after you in the run game. What stands out to
you about him physically?
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Well, I mean, first of all, he's gone up against
the best in the SEC.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
You know, Missouri is in the SEC.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
You're seeing like some of the best pass rushers and
edge rushers in college football week in week out. There
is a consistency to his game. There is very light feet.
He can he can really dance with some of the
best athletes out on the edge. And you see a
bunch of them overright tackle in this league right now,
and then I think there's still a great deal of growth.
(03:46):
Like I think he's gonna get stronger. I think he's
gonna learn how to use his feet to win a
lot of battles against athletic guys on the outside that
want to ghost.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Him or rip them or spin on him. Like I
think he's seting.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
He needs to see good rushers, which you'll see every
day in practice with the Jets. I think you know
you said it, though, Yeah, I just said, like maybe
the highest ceiling of any tackles. I don't think he's
a finished product. I think there's a lot to go.
And I think you know, when he ran those times
and jumped the way he did in Indianapolis, I think
it it basically said, this guy's three hundred and thirty
(04:20):
five pounds, you know, and he can run like this,
backside cutoffs, perimeter game, getting out on the edge. These
are some of the things you can do with him
now because of his ability to move and how light
he is on his feet. Daniel Jeremiah at Our Network
compared him physically to Jason Peters. Now, Jason Peters is
a finished product that probably is going to the Hall
(04:40):
of Fame, but he compared him physically to him, which
is a heck of a camp.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
It's it's a stark comparison to and you're comparing someone
that is what every offensive tackle aspires to be. I mean,
we're talking about a long NFL career, someone who really
worked his way up. And you know, obviously Jason Peters
was not the same type of prospect that armand Membu is.
And when you take a look at what armand Membu
has done, you think about what Baldi just said that
(05:09):
the ceiling is very high. He comes into Missouri, he
originally in high school left guard, moves the right tackle,
earns his way in Missouri, starts at right tackle each
of the past two years. And really, Baldi, when you
take a look at this offensive line that the Jets
now have, it really feels like they have a lot
of athleticism at all five offensive line positions. What will
(05:31):
that help the Jets do? And what type of offense
do you think that they're going to try to run?
Now with the guy like Membu being the fifth and
final piece.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
Well, you have to kind of take a look at
what Detroit has been doing with Ben Johnson now the
head coach in Chicago, and you look at the creativity
with what you can do with an offensive line where
your two tackles can both run. John Simpson, we saw
him pulling a great deal last year. We have seen
Ali Vera Tucker healthy last year, how he can get
out because so much of today's offense is the perimeter game,
(06:02):
whether it's quick.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Screens, fly sweeps.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
Delayed type screens where you're just trying to get the
defense to move one way, and you counter it with
big people that can get down the field.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
And pick off defenders.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
And so I think, you know, whether it's the countertrait
in the run game, whether it's the quick screens and
the jail break screens that everybody sort of features, that
Detroit used a great deal. I mean I could pull
out plays where Pena Seul is thirty yards down the
field for the Lions. I can see similar type things
(06:34):
that you know, armand Membu can do because they're very
similar athletes. And so I feel like you've got a
very compact six to four and change three hundred and
thirty five pound offensive.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Tackle that can pull like a guard.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
They can get down the field, you know, and then
all the things that you want to do where you
can get big people leading the charge down the field,
just the stop screens like I can see Breise Hall
and you're Wilson. Some of these guys get the ball
in their hands and go follow the convoy down the field.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Baldy is one of two tackles and the NCAA last
season who, according to Pro Football Focus, head an eighty
five plus rating or ranking in both the run and
pass game. Like I said before, it didn't was not
charged with a sack in terms of transitioning from that
(07:24):
Missouri offense to what he's gonna be doing in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (07:28):
Now, what stands out well, I.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
Mean all tackles, not just you know, armand Member, but
everybody coming from college where so much is just done
on a quick game where it's up tempo.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
You know you're running to play every sixteen or eighteen seconds.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
You know they don't have five step drop, seven step drops,
play action passes, quarterbacks under center, play action. So you
have to take the clock ea out of your head
because you're gonna have to block for a longer period
of time, especially on third downs when you're thirty long, ten,
third and fifteen.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
You got to overcome some mistakes.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
You've got to be able to hold your blocks a
longer period of time than what you did at Missouri. So'
that's you know, that's just something that all tackles have
to transition to. Part of the adjustment is you got
to hold your blocks longer, and so that comes down
to being able to move your feet, really exercising your
fundamentals where your hands and your feet are working in
(08:24):
unison together, and then trusting your technique to be able
to take the clock out of your head and hold
your blocks as long as it takes for justin Field
to get rid.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Of the ball.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Olu fashion U, John Simpson, Joe Tipman, Elijah Varah Tucker,
and now armand Membu, the seventh overall pick in the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft. We're going to hear from
Membu with Caroline Hendershot momentarily. But first let's go inside
the film rooms. Take a look at what Membu provides.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
Let's take a look at armand Membu the right tackle
from Missouri.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Right now, bam, hands.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
Right there in the chain plate, good spot to be
in all right, over six foot four long arms, over
three hundred and thirty pounds. Now you watch him right here,
he's going to give up some ground to drop his anchor.
So that's what you have to be able to do
sometimes against powerful people that come at.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
You with a bull rush.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
So right here he gives up ground. But at the
end when the balls released, he's in good shape. So
you watch him and you watch his power. That he
can run with the combo block here with the right
guard like this is the type of power that comes
from that type of ability. Keep your feet underneath you
keep driving a right open up a hole. The four
nine forty isn't the most important thing, but it is
(09:39):
when you're cutting off the backside.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Watch his left.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Foot drop all right, and watch him cut off the
backside in this run game because right there, backside blocks
in this situation are important. In his front side blocks
all right, Membu can do that because of his good
foot quickness and his speed, his ability to stay attached
in the run game. You watch him against a defensive
end here like outside zone stretch, like you get him
(10:05):
running and you keep them running like that.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Ability to stay on his feet and do that is
a big part of armand Membu's game.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Watching Jets over time draft one or Draft Day one special.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
The New York Jets have selected armand Membu.
Speaker 7 (10:21):
I was just gonna add this. This is gonna add
to my Instagram stories.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
What do you want to ask? Whatever you're gonna ask,
or say what you're gonna say. Just getting some behind
the scenes. Then okay, so it's draft night.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Maybe we should just go over how the Jets landed
with armand Membu. When you think about what happened picks
one through six and who was available, because for most
of this mock draft season it was playmakers versus protection.
A lot of mock drafts had Tyler Warren the Penn
State tight end.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
A lot of them had armand Membu the.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Tackle out of Missouri, which is the direction the Jets
ended up going.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Now one through five you're looking at.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Cam Ward was the first overall pick, followed by Travis
Hunter following a trade that the Jackonville Jaguars moved up
from five to two. That at number three overall, Abdul
Carter goes Crosstown to the New York g Men. Number
four was the New England Patriots. They four to five
their offensive line with Will Campbell. Then at number five, debatably,
(11:15):
maybe I don't want to say a shocker, but the
surprise up until the point at which the Jets were
on the clock was Mason Graham to the Cleveland Browns
at five overall, being paired up with Miles Garrett now
shores up that defensive line. Ashton Genty the sixth overall pick.
He goes to the Las Vegas Raiders under Pete Carroll,
first year head coach and John spy Tech first year
(11:38):
GM number seven overall for the Jets. Again, Warren and
Membo available, the Jets elect to go up front and
select armand members.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Well, let's well, I was gonna say, let's stay with
let's stay with this graphics for just a second.
Speaker 7 (11:52):
In terms of that top six, I actually think.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
That we were thinking that the order of the two
thousand than twenty five first round might be exactly this.
In terms of the players coming off the board, where
the major shakeup here was, as you noted, was Jacksonville
moving up to get Colorado athlete Travis Hunter. Is going
to try to do something that nobody in the National
(12:18):
Football League has done before, and that's play on both
sides of the ball. Mason Graham goes five, not to Jacksonville,
but the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
But for the Jets, You're right, we've been talking all along.
Is it going to come down to tackle?
Speaker 5 (12:33):
First? Tight nd armand membu or Tyler Warren. And in fact,
it's interesting the first tight end off the board tonight
was out of Michigan. Wasn't warn So that's very interesting.
But from a Jets perspective, you want to fortify that
offensive line and what Darren Mougy and Aaron Glenn have
(12:55):
done this offseason.
Speaker 7 (12:56):
Let's go back to free agency.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
You signed Josh Myers, who was drafted by the Green
Bay Packers, has got a ton of starting experience at
the center position.
Speaker 7 (13:05):
You added Chucks a corps of four.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
We'll play one game with the Patriots last season, but
he's got a ton of starting experience at the right
tackle position. Now you come back in the first round
and a lot of people are saying needs wise, Jets
could use another asset up front. So the Jets go
to the right tackle spot, and again, Memboom makes a
ton of sense because he played specifically right tackle the
(13:32):
last two years at Missouri, so he's used to playing
that side. You don't have to project him moving anywhere else.
And again that athletic upside is big time and the
Jets coaching staff has to be pumped tonight. And I'll
tell you who else has to be pumped. That's your
new quarterback, Justin Fields, twenty six years old, and he's
going to be playing against a line that's not only
(13:55):
loaded with talent, but has good depth as well.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I think it's a great point.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
And you add that to Justin Fields already being a
mobile quarterback. This could be I'm not saying it is
because I don't know as a fact. It could be
the best offensive line Justin Fields has played behind in
his short career, whether that was with Chicago and Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
And look, Pittsburgh has a good offensive line.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
He went four and two in six games as a
starter for the Steelers in the Steel City.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
And I thought Baldy brought up a great point there,
because you know, I'm so excited I didn't answer your
question tremendously.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
There is that.
Speaker 7 (14:30):
Tight end.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Okay, you got some depth there in this draft class.
So maybe you come back at number forty two overall
and there's a guy that you like and you add
to that position where I think what we're going to
eventually see at the end of the first round is
a lot of these top tier tackles are off the board.
So if you want to address the offensive line early
(14:51):
in this draft, this might have been your only chance.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
And this is something Daniel Jeremiah said or last week
at the end of it when he said, look, if
I had the choice, meaning Daniel Jeremiah was proposed a
question tight end or tackle at seven and round two.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
How do you kind of go between them?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
He said, I lean tackle at seven because of the
depth at tight end and because of the lack of
the round two options at tackle for the Jets, specifically
at pick number forty two. And so also this is
a quick side note when you take a look at
the number seven overall pick in terms of some of
the more notable players who have been selected there, one
of the guys that pops up is ironically a guy
(15:28):
that Baldy was talking about in penne Seol for the
Detroit Lions and some of the other names. This is
Justin's twenty fourteen. This is a good list. Mike Evans,
DeForest Buckner, Josh Allen obviously the quarterback, followed by a
guy with the same name who then hyphenated his name
Josh Heinz Allen and Penne Sewel in twenty twenty one.
(15:49):
And this list excludes Adrian Peterson, who is drafted in
two thousand and seven.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Well, potentially, are you looking at five guys there? Three
of those guys are probably gonna be wearing gold jackets. Yeah,
I'm getting ahead of myself.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
But Sewell, Josh Allen, and then Mike.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Evans, those guys at the end of the day, they
all might be going to Candon.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
And this is the first time in franchise history the
Jets have actually selected seventh overall. And let's take it
a step back and say this is the highest the
Jets have drafted a tackle since Dubrickashaw Ferguson and that
worked out quite well for this franchise.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
It did.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
We're about to hear from armand Membo, but first I
just want to say that this is.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
An exciting time to be a Jets fan.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
You have to be in the stands for all the
action the energy of Jets game day.

across the way with Caroline.
Speaker 8 (16:50):
Hendershot armand thanks so much for joining us live on
Jets Overtime. I know this has been very long journey
for you, But how does it feel to be finally
drafted and number seven overall?
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (17:07):
That's just a big relief and definitely a blessing.
Speaker 8 (17:11):
What did your conversations with head coach Aaron Glenn and
GM Darren Muji sound like in this pre draft process?
Speaker 9 (17:20):
Oh, we just you know, I had a lot of
long conversations and just you know, just talking things through.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
So got's not them really.
Speaker 8 (17:27):
Well, I know you said you woke up this morning
just in your gut feeling like you were going to
be in New York Jet. Why did you have that
feeling this morning?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Well, I mean, I guess, I just I don't know.
I just I guess God told me.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
Plus, you know, the Jets have a really young, promising teams,
so I thought that'd be a good.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Fit for me too.
Speaker 8 (17:46):
Have you thought about what it's going to be like
to play on this old line with Joe Tipman, Elijah
Vera Tucker, John Simpson, and Olu Fashnu.
Speaker 9 (17:57):
Yeah, I think you know, if I come in and
do what I need to do, we could beat it.
A promising young part of the future for sure.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
Now we got to see your speed on display at
the combine when you ran a four nine forty yard dash.
What other traits are you going to bring to the
New York Jets.
Speaker 9 (18:15):
I'm not just fast, I'm strong too, you know, I'm
very explosive, strong and the YESP I feel like I'm
gonna do it all.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I'm not gonna make any block in the game.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Now.
Speaker 8 (18:23):
I know it takes a village to get to this
point in your career. Is there anyone that you wouldn't
have gotten to this point without?
Speaker 4 (18:33):
I really just said my parents. I don't think I
could be here about them.
Speaker 8 (18:36):
How much do they mean to you in a moment
like this.
Speaker 9 (18:39):
I mean the world just knowing how much they've done
for me and sacrifice for me.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
You know, parents, two people from Camp Roon coming.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Over here to you know, provide for their son means
a lot.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
And last one for you, if you could go back
and tell your eighth grade self just what this whole
journey has been like and where it's gotten you.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
What would you say?
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Tell him?
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (19:03):
I mean, so be honest.
Speaker 9 (19:03):
I won't tell nothing because what he did work because
you know, I'm here right now, so he can keep
doing what he needs to do.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
You don't got to stress about the future.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
Awesome, Well, congratulations, armand we're excited to see you in
New York and enjoy the rest of your night.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
All right, there you have it, armand Membu the seventh
overall pick. He said, Hey, I'm not just fast, I'm strong.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
He said he has no advice for his eighth grade
self because he did it.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
He certainly did. I mean, what a night for that
young man.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
And again a few months ago when he was lining
up at Missouri, I'm I'm sure he was certainly thinking
about his NFL future. But think about it, he declares
for the draft, and at that time a lot of
people were saying, well, hey, maybe he's second round or
maybe late first round. He put himself in position to
be the seventh overall draft pick tonight. So Membo joining
(19:56):
a team that is hungry to turn this around with
the new GM and Darren Mugi and a new head
coach and Aaron glenn In this is their first draft pick.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, and you know this is also just a side note.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
It kind of hit me as I was computing watching
the interview with Caroline and armand is that he.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Cut off the locks.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
He looks like he has a fresh haircut, as he's
now a professional football.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Player, not just a college football player.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
And we had a graphic earlier that kind of gave
a snapshot of what armand Membu has done early or
throughout his Missouri career. If we could toss that back
up just so we can see it again talking about
what he did in twenty twenty two, only started four
games at right tackle, he's a freshman at Missouri. Then
in twenty twenty three, he man's down that same spot,
(20:44):
starting thirteen games. Then he started this past season twelve
games at right tackle and was named second.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Team All SEC.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Now, I will say, when you look at what he
did at Missouri, and I think Baldi said it best
and you said it as well, it's not a finished product,
but the trades are there to be a very talented
offensive lineman but doesn't have the same resume necessarily as
a guy like Will Campbell, who was the first tackle drafted.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
Yeah, you know, if you think about it, Membo might
be the better fit anyway. Even if Will Campbell was
on the board for the Jets at that point, maybe
Membo was the guy all along because listen, powerful, explosive,
great athlete, plays with a nasty demeanor and he loves ball.
(21:33):
And you could see that like when Baldy was breaking
him down. Is that that guy plays through the whistle.
And that's the kind of temperament, the kind of qualities
that Aaron Glenn wants in a player. They want to
dominate at the line of scrimmage and armand Membo is
going to give them an opportunity to do so.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
And he started his final in his college career, he
finished it with thirty straight starts. That's availability right there
in And this is Draft weekend. We're only on round one,
Round two, and three tomorrow. Before Day three on Saturday,
rounds four through seven, you have to celebrate the newest
members of the Green and White with our latest sweepstakes.
(22:13):
Text Draft Day to two, six, one, five four to
be entered for a chance to win a Jets Draft
merch pack featuring a jersey autograph five member of the
twenty twenty five draft class.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Terms do ply all right? Well, speaking of.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
A draft day giveaway, I think it's time we go
out to MetLife Stadium. It is not a giveaway, but
we'll bring them in. We're talking about the mad backer.
Bart Scott live from MetLife.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Bart, what's happening.
Speaker 10 (22:41):
I'll tell you what is going good right here. I
don't know if you guys can hear me or not.
Can you guys hear me?
Speaker 7 (22:45):
We got you, We got you. Your haircut looks good to.
Speaker 10 (22:48):
Okay, you got me. I'll get no feedback. Well, I'll
tell you what. I appreciate that. Well, I'll tell you what.
It was a static as smithsphere, the MetLife Stadium, every
on the staff here, everybody did a great job. Ban
showed up with a Jet Giants. I think the Jets
fans are really ecstatic. I know everybody was wondering wherever
they go when they go tight end or go tackle.
I think you know, like you guys said Aaron Glenn
(23:09):
wants his team to play with a sense of nastiness, aggressiveness,
and I think Membo gives them the opportunity to do
that and also gives some opportunity to run the football
and be able to be in favorable second down in distances.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
You know, I'm glad you mentioned that because we've had
this discussion on set and Brian Baldinger said the same
thing about the potential of armand Membo Bart of someone
who watches this Jets team weekend and week out, what
about the potential of this offensive line compared to where
it was last year and compared to the rest of
the league.
Speaker 10 (23:39):
Well, they were trying to build a bully. I think
last year we're getting fast new kind of like the
dancing bear. You want your right tackle to be a
little bit of nasty physicality at three hundred and thirty
two pounds. That's going to give them that nastiness. We
know John Simpsons on the other side is real nasty.
And then you know you have Tipman, who's the athletic guy.
This gives them a lot of scheme versatility. Bringing a
Meyers give them an opportunity that they have depth now
(24:02):
and they can also compete every day. And you know
what I like about it. They don't have to project
a left tackle playing right tackle because we know those
that have been mixed reviews, they have an opportunity to
have a guy that's done nothing but right tackle come
in and pick up where he left off at the
end of his collegiate career.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Hey, Matt Becker, this offensive line has to grow and
develop together. I'm not going to compare them to a
unit that you played in back in two thousand and
nine and twenty ten, but do you like where this
thing is going in terms of Hey, like you said,
building a mentality and also a little bit of a
(24:38):
ground and pound setting that up for a mobile quarterback
and justin fields there.
Speaker 10 (24:45):
Yeah, I think it was more about justin fields because
you take a tight end and your right tackle can't
block or hold up, then that tighty end is going
to be inside playing seven man protection and sitting out,
so you don't have an opportunity. Everybody benefits from being
able to have an offensive line plays at a high level.
We see that with Lamar Jackson. We see that with
the Super Bowl champions in Philadelphia. The ability to be
(25:07):
able to have to be able to buy another second
for your you know, quarterback, for him to go through
his progressions. Guys to kind of play that off schedule
football because you know that guys are attached and guys
understand that it's a real threat wearing guys down. You know,
before you know it, we'll be playing eighteen games. And
this gets an opportunity for the Jets to make sure
(25:28):
that they can celidify a wall of fortes around their
quarterback so that he can fill in Bolden to make
decisions and go through its progressive.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
You know, I'm glad you mentioned that too, because I
think a lot of people see what the Jets have
in Justin Field and the running backs and they say
this is going to be a ground and pound team.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
And Aaron Glenn says, we're gonna allow Justin Fields to
play quarterback.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Now that you know what this offense kind of looks like, Now,
what do you expect the Jets to look like on Sundays?
Speaker 10 (25:55):
Well, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I think.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
They're just getting started.
Speaker 10 (25:57):
You still have free agencies, still have money to get
to get paid. After people, you know, assess what they
got in the draft, and there's gonna be guys that
are gonna become available. It's gonna be defensive players that
are available, so already defensive guys that are available. It's
gonna be guys that you may see you know, day two,
day three of his draft that gets traded for draft
capital going forward. But I expect the just also to
continue to build and try. You know, the tight end
(26:21):
is a very deep class this year, and you still
can get a good tight end in the second round
and still to feel like that. Now you can go
for best player available, and I feel for need. You know,
you know Rutger, Jeremmy Rutgers is gonna get an opportunity
to be that guy with his former quarterback. But you're
still gonna bring you know, got smart, but you're gonna
bring some competition and again as well, so you take
the best player available.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Hey, Bart, before we let you go, you're looking good, man.
What's fun the workout plan?
Speaker 10 (26:48):
I mean, I'm trying to catch over with you because
I know I gotta be next to you rippling still
a second field, So I'm shutting down Planet Fitness and
eating bagel. You know what I'm saying, sitting next to
Planet Fitness and eating bagels, old bagel, Dad Planet.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
And on that note, Bart, we appreciate your time. Enjoy
the rest of your night at MetLife Stadium. All right, Well,
you're rotging jets overtime Draft Day one Special.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Presented by Duncan.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
We only have a couple of minutes left armand Membu's
the newest Jet. Let's take a look at what the
Jets have on tap. Okay, because the Jets are sitting
at a favorable position in the top of round two
tomorrow night with pick number forty two, Colson Loveland has
been the only tight end selected to my knowledge. Tyler
Warren just selected by the Indianapolis Colts at fourteen over on.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
So Warren and Loveland off the board.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Now the Jets at forty two, the top remaining tight
ends available Mason Taylor, Elijah Arroyo, Terrence Ferguson, Harold Fannin,
and Gunner Hell.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
If they decide to go in that.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Direction, right and the two guys that you mentioned at
the top of that list, Mason Taylor out of LSU,
Elijah Arroyal out of Miami, those guys gonna go right
in that range, I anticipate. I don't know if either
one of them are gonna crack into the first round,
but they could be right there at the top of
(28:08):
the second round. The Jets select tenth overall in the
second round, A Royal is a kid who really can
get down the field.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Yeah vertically.
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Now, he had some injuries in the past at Miami.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
If his medical is cleared, he's a very intriguing prospect,
he because he can open up some space. And Mason
Taylor great bloodlines, just some really clean prospect dot Alsie.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
And Brian Baldinger was on earlier.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
He said Mason Taylor reminds him of Travis Kelsey. That's
a big comparison to make. Not my words, those are
bald these words. Thanks for tuning in to Jets Overtime,
the Draft Day one special presented by Duncan again armand Membu, the.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Newest New York Jet.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Be sure to check out New York Jets dot com
when Jared, Darren, Mugi and Aaron Glenn addressed the media
for the first time. And not only that, but we'll
be back here tomorrow night after the Jets second round
pick at pick number forty two.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
If they stay there,
