Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, everybody. Aaron Glenn, of course, announced the Jets will
be starting to Rod Teller this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.

game ahead for the Green and White coming up right
now with Baldy and Bart and meet anybody in the world.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
And I think we're gonna win next Sunday.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
And that's what.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Gets wonderful.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Can't wait, put your seat belts on and getting ready
for the ride.

Speaker 1 (00:34):

seeing you guys. I know Bart's down in Maryland handing

(00:56):
out turkeys. Uh where are you right now, Baldy.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
I'm right here my film room on third Florid, NFL Films,
Mount Laurel, New Jersey, not handing out any turkeys. But uh,
you know Bart's doing you know he's doing the yeomen's
work out there right now.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, we have a lot of three strikes as a turkey.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Well, we have a lot to be thankful for. This
is the Bart Scott super Bowl this week, Baldy, because
Bart started his career with the Ravens, and of course
it finishes his career with the Jets, and he still
has connections with both teams. I don't know, what do
we think about this matchup?

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Well, I mean, all the more, you know, they're they're
you know, they're coming out of the crypt. They were
in it at one in five, but in the last
four games, nobody's put up twenty points on them, and uh,
you know, and that includes the.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Rams, who might be the hottest team in football.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Defensively, they got healthy, they got right, they you know,
they they picked up some some people added some pieces,
you know, to the back end of their defense. But
Kyle Hamilton, Rokwan, you know, some of the name teams
that are staples of raven style of defense are showing
up right now, and you got to account for these guys.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Uh, Bart, Before we get into that, what is it
gonna be like for you watching this game from one
to four o'clock there as you see your former teams battle.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I'm like the parent with the split jersey.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
You know what I'm saying, half and half right down
the middle, baby, straight down the middle. Uh, it's gonna
be fun because last week you saw Cleveland could have
played spoiler, I mean one bit catch by yeah, by
the receiver, and everybody's looking at the Ravens like, man,
I can't believe you lost to Cleveland. And you know,
conference games are always like that because the familiarity of it.

(02:40):
But Miles Garrett got busy four sacks against Action Jackson,
and I know he looked a little bit fresher with
his hamstring, But yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited to see
how these linebackers Quincy and Sherwood handle the physicality because
these are one of those games where like if you
go down there and you step on the train tracks

(03:01):
and you declat King Henry or the car coming there,
and you you push this easy button and put that
factory reset back in his head, people gonna start looking
at you different ways. I always love games like this
where somebody had a big time tail back and a
big time full back because this this tough guy, so
you believe it.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Let me show you what I do to him too,
and it doesn't matter how little you are. It's the conviction.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
But when you get in that, you get in that
hole because you're gonna get some traditional stuff. I broke,
you know, the player broke down right, and I'm sure
Baldy ran it. They had what we call a trump
look likely as yes, yes, like a double yeah, yeah,
so you had So you have a trump look. You

(03:43):
were basically got a tight end that receiver. So that's
a big body. Coolier is like six six. He comes
on the waund block. That allows Linderbodom to go straight
to the uh, straight to the linebacker and then you
have a three hundred pound fullback coming there, right, So
they're gonna change the math and change the numbers, going
to see some of the most unique formations of personnel
groupings that you've ever seen. If you're the Jets and

(04:05):
you just have to have a plan for it, ain't
no squeeze nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You gotta spill everything.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You got to seal your body with in the inside
with your body, and seal the outside gat with his body.
And it's none of this like because all these are
designed to put a hat on a hat and you
run out of math. What you have to do if
you're the Jets is when you come down, there is
not enough to get the full back. You got to
get the fullback and the pulling guard. You gotta come
out and put your big boy pads on.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Baby.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
This is football like I love it. This is in
between the trenches. This is like if you're a man,
show me you a man, If you a tough guy,
to me, see a tough guy its body blows early
in the game, and see if you still have the
same enthusiasm to step on their train tracks in the
third and fourth quarter as you had in the first.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Well, you got your enthusiasm and your big points, big
pants on right now. But let's not bury the leave here, fellas.
The Jets are going to have a new starting quarterback
in Tarad Taylor. Baldy, what do you make of the decision?
But more so, how will Taylor's insertion into the lineup

(05:06):
impact offense?

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Well, I mean, first of all, you know, to Rod
started like bart, you know, with the Ravens. His first
four years were there, and honestly, I remember when he
was there and like he was the next Mike Vick
coming out of Virginia Tech, Like he could you know,
time has slowed all of us down, not to quite saying,
but you know, I think one of the things we
have to find out, ea is you picked up A

(05:29):
d Mitchell, You picked up John Metchi, you got Arion Smith.
We got to find out if these I mean, there's
no Garrett Wilson, right, So we got to find out
who these guys are and can they be a part
of this nucleus going forward. And I think to Rod
gives you a better chance just for completions. Just get
the ball in these guys' hands. Let's cause they all show,

(05:50):
you know, they all show potential.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
A d Mitchell is six threes, two oh five. He
ran the four threes, you know, coming out of school,
like he's got legitimate the talent. But let's see if
Torod came catmem in there and just get some simple
completion shallow crosses, hitches like quick slams. Let's get completions
here and let's see what these guys can do. And
I think Torod gives you a better chance right now

(06:15):
as we try to evaluate some of these guys going forward.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Exactly right, touch and anticipation, right, you know, coming across
the middle, throwing a friendly ball, it's not about how
fast you get it. There's being a catchable ball where
I can do something with it. And you know, ad
Mitchell really impressed me. I said, listen, I can't wait
to see him with Garrett. If Garrett decides to moving
to the slot. You got a guy that can clear
out the defense, a guy that's also can be competitive

(06:41):
with some of the bigger receivers or corners in his league.
I was very impressed, Like, yeah, the end result wasn't
what you wanted. He dropped the deep pass and then
the crossing route, but he was there and he created
a tremendous separation that showed you, like, the scariest thing
in the world.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Is a big man that can create separations. Because usually
he's a.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
He's a fifty to fifty ball guy, he's a DeAndre
Hopkins guy, he's a Plexico Burrs guy. But every once
in a while, you get guys and I'm not calling
them a mega tribe, but you get guys that are
big and tall that can separate. And that's scary because
you know, you don't make most guys don't make interceptions
when it's one on one because they just want to
get the ball.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Down.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
They want to make the tackle, but you know, if
you go for the ball he's trying to swipe, then
you only have one arm to pull down a guy
that's sixty three, you know, about two hundred plus pounds,
and that's not easy to do when you have a
lot of these flimsy soft corners out here.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Right now, Baldi came out of New England encouraged because
Matchi got involved, he got the touchdown. He had three
catches as well. You both have talked about Mitchell and
he was winning off the line of scrimmage against a
very good cornerback in Christian Gonzales. So it was this
close to hey, Mitchell having three catches in seventy yards

(07:56):
and things like that. So those two newcomers got to
take a long look at here, especially with Garrett Wilson
be on an edge of reserve. Also, Mason Taylor continues
to impress, and the Jets have also said repeatedly they
want to get Priest Hall more involved in the past game.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Well, I agree with all those things, but you know,
here's the thing. Like Ady Mitchell was the fourth wide
receiver in Indianapolis, he wasn't getting time, you know, I
mean they Pearson, you know, all those guys that Josh Dowens,
all those guys are playing.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Same thing with MITCHI.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
When he was in Houston, they had all their I mean,
so you know, I Metchi had some injuries.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
You know, when he came to Philly.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
He didn't have a role in Philly, you know, I mean,
they had all their guys and they didn't throw the
ball anyways. So this is a great opportunity for these
guys to really step up and get it up. They
get a good six to seven game opportunity here to
maybe establish themselves as NFL players. Mason Taylor as well,
because anybody that's watched Mason Taylor at practice in a

(08:55):
little bit in the games, but especially a practice, like
the guy is big and smooth and run, he could
cover ground and he's very fluid getting it out. He's
got great movement and so like you'd love to see,
you know, Mason Taylor run some of these routes.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
I mean, even like tight end screens that.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Everybody's running in this league, delayed screens coming like all
these all there's so many different ways to get these
guys the ball to see what they can do with it.
In their hands, and I think this is a great
opportunity for all these guys because they're not low in
the depth chart. They've been pushed up because of the
situation right here. It's a fantastic opportunity to showcase themselves.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Go ahead. Do you anticipate more shots down the field
with a guy like Taylor?

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Uh? Yeah, of course.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I mean he throws a great deep ball and you're
gonna have opportunities. Listen, This Ravens secondary is you know,
decorated by name, but they give up plays and you know,
you talk about what I'm excited about. I mean, Miles Garrett,
well it was held relatively in check by this offensive line.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I don't know if he's reached the status of rookie
Mackai Becton, but man, when I see Baldy breakdown Memble,
I feel like I think he's he gets excited that
way a little bit because he has that same physicality.
I mean, he'll he's a guy that will lay on you,
finish you. And I love the veteran savvy from last
week with slapping the hands down and making guys fall
forward and just laying on top of him and just

(10:21):
like that's the most like discouraging thing ever when you
got a big fat dude putting this belly on the
back of your neck when you sitting there and like
he's you know that if you try and get up violently,
then he's gonna push you down violently. So you just
kind of give up and kind of say, Okay, I'll
live to fight another day. But you know, this Ravens
pass rush is something that leaves a bit to be
desired this year. So you talk about opportunities to be

(10:44):
able to throw the ball down the field because Metchi
or Smith or or or Mitchell's gonna have opportunities to
run the route because I think Tyrod is gonna be
protected enough where he's gonna feel embolden inside of the
pocket to throw the ball down the field. Beau that
the Ravens don't have a lot of pass rushers, and
if they add the blitz with with Hamilton, they're going

(11:06):
to be opportunities down the field with one oh one,
It's all over the place.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Baldy, you're starting to see this come together the Jets'
vision offensively, because bart just mentioned it. This offensive line's
been really good. They rushed for one hundred and forty
yards against the Patriots. You do have the young tight
end when Mason Taylor Rutger is contributing as well. You
have ad and I Mitchell, who potentially could be your

(11:31):
number two receiver. MATCHI is a guy's taking advantage of
his opportunities. Gives you some real intrigue at the slot position.
You do have that draft capital. So I mean down
the line, you would see the moment at hand right now,
but you also can see the vision of this whole
thing taking place right now.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Well, it starts up front, honestly, like they've actually, you know,
for the first time. I mean mean we've all been
watching the Jets forever, Like for the first time in
a long time, stayed healthy. They've been able to line.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Up every week, practice every week.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
They're all young, so they all can go out there practice,
not like when you bring old guys in and they're
sitting on a sideline Wednesday and Thursday, you know, just
getting ready for the game. I mean, these guys, you
can practice them, you can work them, you can train them,
you know, and now they're starting to get to know
each other, you know, Josh and Tip and Membu and
you know, honestly, one of the things I always look

(12:24):
for when I study these guys is is the guy
on the ground A lot like armand Membu is not
on the ground. He's putting guys on the ground, but
he's on his feet. He's got tremendous bounds. And one
of the things you look at when you evaluate guys.
I don't care what brown they get drafted, and that
doesn't matter. What matters is are they an athlete? Can
they stay on their feet? You know, because if you
can stay attached on your feet, it doesn't matter if

(12:46):
it's Miles Garrett out there, it doesn't matter if Kyle
van Noy's coming. If you can stay on your feet
and move your feet, you can stay between the quarterback
and your man. And that's what I see from Membo,
Like he's got elite a bill. He just has to
see more, you know, And but he does show what
you want in a first round pick. And I think

(13:08):
he's got a bright future because he's got real power.
He can really and that's something that lacking a lot
of these college kids is real power to move big bodies.
He can move big bodies.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Part how about the Jets guards, I mean, Joe Tipman
was in that center competition during training camp, and then
av T goes down and they say, hey, you're gonna
start at right guard for us, and look at how
he's played this year, and then this game's got to
mean a lot personally to John Simpson after his experience
with the Ravens, of course.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah, and he's also you know, auditioning for a new
contract and saying, hey, man, well this guy is gritty.
He's he's our leader. I mean, he's a guy that
does the grind, grimy work. He says the tone for them.
You know, he's a guy that's great in the pool game.
And one of the benefits of getting rid of sauce
in Michael Carter and Quinn Williams is you got a

(13:59):
lot of tremendous you know, salar cat relief.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
So I mean, who knows. I mean Tipman.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I still like Tipman back at center because I think
that's his best position. But you can take a flyer
on a guy like Vera Tucker if you decide to
franchise tag him for a year and see if he
can stay healthy finally or something like that. That's the
beauty of like, you know, being able to create slar
cat space and having draft equity, you can go draft
people and you can feel these positions. But right now
you have these guys that are playing together, are getting chemistry,

(14:27):
they're getting that non verbal communication. I'm more excited about
this offensive line because this offensive line, if you decide
to go improve it or add to it in the offseason,
it just makes everything else better, makes the rent game better,
makes the quarterback better, it makes it makes the receivers
better because you get that extra second and a half
or or half a second to be able to process.

(14:47):
And it's all about being a process because all zones
got holes in it and all in all, all man
and man guys get beat or lose separation when you
have opportunities to have time to burn the baby baldy.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
I've been really impressed by offensive coordinator A Tanner angstrand
his growth as a play caller. What have you seen
from him? Even going back? I know the Jets only
scored fourteen points against the Patriots, but that first drive
is a thing of beauty and he's doing a lot
of motion. He's getting a lot of different people involved.
I just think he's getting more creative as the year

(15:20):
has gone by.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
Well, he has, and there's a lot. I mean, this
league right now is just evolving so fast. I mean
Bart watches it every week, but we're seeing so much
thirteen person l Bart. You know in this league where
they'll use back match Mitchell, you know Mitchell along with Rutgert,
along with Taylor, you know, to force the defense to
defend another gap, you know, in the run game or

(15:42):
in protection. You've seen it across the league. The Rams
are probably number one at it. But you know he's
got the quarterback under center. You're getting some play action
right now, so you can get your speedo routes down
the field.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Start like you're starting to see this stuff. Now. He's new.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
It's a very young group. It's a new group of receivers.
So he can't just give the whole book. You know,
you gotta you can't. You can't, you know, run before
you can walk. So I feel like they're growing together.
EA and as the line, because there were days earlier
this year when the line was not good. But you
can see the cohesion how they're playing together. And now

(16:20):
once you start building on that, you can start adding
more motions, more specific plays, tweak things a little bit,
put a receiver in a backfield and run the wheel.
You can grow this thing as they kind of grow together.
And I'm encouraged because I think Canner's creative and you
got to be creative in this league. If you line
up and you're an eleven personnel, I mean, you're just

(16:41):
gonna get whipped in this league, you know. So you've
got to you got to throw the formations, the motions.
You've got to throw a bunch of cheese at guys
like Bart Scott. They're too smart, you know. If you
know the formation, you know the freaking play. So you
got to keep changing it up.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Another guy that Jets want to get involved offensively who
has really start on special teams is Isaiah Williams. So
watch him as well. Bart Taylor. So calm, and he
remains a dual threat even now in his fifteenth year.
The dude is ageless. But with that being said, Fields
had eleven carries for sixty seven yards against the Patriots.

(17:17):
How will this look differently as far as the run
game is concerned, because he still can do a lot
of the same similar concepts with Taylor, But I can't
imagine you'll see him running as much as he did
with fields.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
It'll be running different. It won't be design runs, it'll
be scramble runs. It'll be because he goes down goals
to his one, two, three, four, check, recognize the formation
or recognize the coverage, and he'll take off and he'll
get scramble yards like Baker Mayfield does.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Right.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
It's still effective because he's a threat to run away
and if you have guys that are getting super deep
in his owns, it will he'll run and get you
five to ten yards. But also if you go man
to man, he has the ability to break through with
this offensive line putting a hat on the hat to
be able to get some of the big yardis and
be the dynamic beating somebody to the corner.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
But he's very savvy, he's very smart.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
He's not as explosive as justin p fields at this
point of his career, but he's still a guy that
can be effective and he's able to buy time to
throw down the field because he knows where to go
with the ball and manipulate guys with his eyes. He
also can manipulate guys in zones by moving them with
looking them off and looking at the safety or looking
somewhere else and being able to move guys and coverage
and buy time with his feet to get it more

(18:26):
explosive plays and let the other people, the young guys
do to run it. And you know he sit back
and just delivered the ball and be a facilitator like
John Stockton Baldy.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
What do you think of this? What do you think
of this opportunity for Taylor in his fifteenth season. You know,
you know at this point in your career, you're not
going to play forever, even though the guy looks like
he can. But now he's back under center against a
Baltimore team that you mentioned at the top pier of
the pod. They've won four consecutive games. That's the team
that drafted you. They're battling for their playoff lives, and

(18:58):
the Jets have showed I agree with Aaron Glenn what
he said after Thursday night against the Patriots that energy
has been there, the urgency has been there. They just
have to execute a little bit better.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Well, you're seeing fewer mistakes, you know, I mean the
pre snap penalties that played this team all last year
in earlier this year, they're they're now a minimal thing.
Special teams obviously is much improved. So, I mean, you're
seeing this thing grow. But to Toad' is, first of all,
he was drafted by the Ravens. You never forget who

(19:31):
drafts you. You know where you come from. So going
back to Baltimore like that will bring back good memories
because he was on good teams back then. But regardless,
he's backed up Flacco, He's backed up you know, Baker,
he's backed up justin Herbert. He's been a starter, he's
been benched, he's been coming off the bench.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
He knows his role.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
So that's the most important thing for any player any
point in his.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
Career, what's your role? He knows his role.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
So right now they're asking him to start and lead
a young team, Like he knows how to do that,
and he's seen other guys do that, so he's learned
every playbook he's you know, I mean Baker was look,
Baker wasn't supposed to start, you know, that was Tarad's thing.
And eventually you get moved out and they move on
in Cleveland. But like, he's going to take all that
experience and he steps in a huddle and when he speaks,

(20:18):
he speaks. He's got command. Guys are listening to him,
and so I think this is a I think it's
good for him. He can can continue to extend his
career if he chooses to, because you know, if he
going to.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Play the heels so he's forty, he can play till
he's forty.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, And that's really what it is, is solidifying your position, saying, hey, whatever,
young guy you decide to bring in here a drift
next year of the year. After that, I can mentor him.
You saw Jamis solidified hisself. I believe as the backup
for the giants. You got some of these guys that
are stars if they decide to not every guy can
make that transition to say, hey, I'm not the guy
anymore and let me support the guys behind me in

(20:55):
front of me, right. I think Russell struggles with that.
But you look at guys like Josh McCown. But you know,
Tyrod was a higher level than those guys. Look at
a guy like Fitzpatrick. He was highed to that because
he was picked to be a starter for an organization
before you know, he's not a career backup. He's a
backup that was a starter that now is a backup
that can play forever if he wants to. He can

(21:17):
play into a forty two years old because he's a
coach on the field. But when you call his number,
he ain't got to be warmed up on the bike.
He you know what I'm saying, give them time and
warm up the old shoulder and go out there. And
he'll go out there and he'll do a professional job.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
And honestly, one of us, like if the Jets decided
to draft the quarterback, you know, you would want Tyrod
in that quarterback room with him. You'd want him to
be a part of this thing going forward to help
out anybody that comes in at whatever around he's drafted in.
I mean, I'm sure Jamis has helped out. In fact,
Jamis really wanted that role to help out Jackson Dark,

(21:52):
you know with the Giants, And I think to Rod,
would you know, embrace that position if you know, if
he chooses to stay and can continue the career, a
lot of money to pass away.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
We got a ways to go on that one. Let's
take a break and then I'm gonna dive more into
the matchup. Jets Fans clear the runway be at Medalife

you touched upon it before this unique Ravens run game.

(22:48):
What do the Jets have to do? I'll tell you what.
The performance against the Patriots is quite good. They had
twenty five carries for sixty seven yards. But this is
a different animal.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Yeah, that's a totally different beast.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
You talk about the most explosive core back arguably in
the history of this game.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
But he's added the ability to buy time.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
When he chooses to to throw the ball down the field,
You're gonna have to have tremendous eyes. Mark Andrews, I
think is playing some of the best football he's played
in years. Isaiah likely is a guy that you don't
think about, but he can get matched up on your
backup safety and he can do work right, So then
you do do all that, then you deal with the
physicality of now with Ricard being back, what that brings

(23:26):
to the table.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
You know, it's so unique.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
You won't face another team like this that can put
out a two hundred and fifty pounds tail back and
a three hundred and five pound full back. But that
fullback doesn't always line up as fullback. He can line
up as tight end. And now you have extra extra
tackle in but the personnel doesn't suggest that. So you
can go double double like bald he's talking about where

(23:50):
you got a double team and a double team. And
if you don't know, if you allow Derek Hemry to
get his feet going and he gets his fourth step,
I forgot who I think it was Mike Ray who said,
if you allow Derek carry to get his fourth step,
good written right, And it's gonna be incumbent that these
linebackers play downhill.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
But when you play downhill, that's.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
When Mark Andrews and likely get behind the linebackers and
you have these wide open gaps because you know you're
so tied in on running the ball mean stopping the run.
So if the Jets he'll stop the run, then it
takes away some of that play action away from the Jets,
I mean from the Ravens. And they have a chance,
but it can get it can get ugly if you

(24:29):
don't match the physical physicality of the Ravens, if they
feel like they can just bully ball.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
You, Baldy, what have you seen from Lamar in terms
of his legs coming back from the hamstring entry.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
Uh, he's favoring his left leg. I mean he's favoring it,
you know.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
I mean it's just but I mean he still has
a burst, right He's not running nearly as much. He
hasn't really run much like much all year, but he
But I saw a play the other day. I put
it on the the video EA where Miles Garrett's coming like,
I mean, he's just turned the corner. He's coming like
a locomotive and Lamar knows it. And but he's still

(25:04):
you know, hit the gas pedal and you know, ran
away and kept his eyes down the field, hit a
flowers I believe you know, for throw he can still escape.
He's not looking to run right now. If if you're
a man coverage and you guys are turning running down
the field.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
You know, he's he's not doing that the way he
used to when he would.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Run four thousand yards, So he's I think he's a
little cautious, but he's still deadly accurate. You know, he's
still throwing a lot of touchdowns, and honestly, he sees
the whole field as good as anybody in this whole business.
Like if if he's on his scramble and his eyes
are up like and you're open, or he'll throw you

(25:43):
open if you're not open like his his ability to
find plays beyond the x's and o's is as good
as anyone in this business.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Bart, how do you navigate that? This week against Lamar
Jermaine Johnson for the first time his career consecutive games
with the sack, and he's been on fire in terms
of prussures. I think thirteen pressures the last two weeks.
The Jets got to Drake May just one time. How
do you balance as far as hey, we want to
keep him in the pocket and make sure he doesn't

(26:10):
break contain and also we want to heat him up
at times, but you don't want to leave your secondary
with these dudes running free, whether it be a Zay
Jones or you mentioned the tight ends before Andrews coming.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
On, he got like DeAndre DeAndre Hopkins still can make
a couple of big plays, contested back shoulder plays. I
think Lamar trusts him. Then you know one you you
have to have your plaster rules down. But you know,
as as you know a you have to rush as
a unit. You can't go outlaw. You can't get up
the field too far because Lamar used that and he'll

(26:47):
escape or he'll buy time. He'll see that, and like
it can be so frustrating. It's like going against Michael Vick.
Sometimes you may have to cover for eight seconds, but
if you want to make him throw it from a whale,
you don't want to present opportun tunities for him to
run up there. That's why a lot of times, you know,
they would you cross the inside guys to create the
windows to close, and you can have the guys on

(27:08):
the outside not get past quarterback depth. And you tell
the guys that hey, we're gonna we're gonna stir the
pocket and our stunts are gonna come from the inside,
but we cannot, uh not have edges.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
For him because he can circle the defense.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
If he circles the defense, now that linebacker has to
decide do I step up to stop him or do
I stay back and get tremendous depth and just give
up the yards because to Baldy's point, when you just
when you put those linebackers or those safeties in those positions,
he's so accurate that he'll draw you in and throw
the ball behind your head. Then you say, okay, well
I'm gonna stay deep, and then he'll do that and

(27:41):
they'll run for twenty five yards so quick and step
out of bounds, and you like, man, what am I doing?
And you know you don't want to have to keep
having to rush this guy for five to six seconds
and sit in your stands. You know, I don't know
if the Jets have the rotation of depth to keep
up if you go on these eight to nine play
drives with LaMarsh scrambling around to throw not the pass

(28:03):
I mean to throw, not to run.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Right Baldi, what do you make of Quincy Williams the
way he's come back after returning a lineup, I mean,
following the Cincinnati game. You know, he took everything at stride,
put his head down. He's been so professional. Man, He's
so explosive from the linebacker position instinct of and he's

(28:25):
been really reading it well lately.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Well, they need them, you know, you need your linebackers
because you've got to be able to clean things up
in his game, Like you can't let Henry get the
runway going. You know, you've got to be fast to
the you know, you this is not the most athletic
offensive line, so your angles and speed to the ball
is critical, especially when they're running their misdirection stuff and
some of the power stuff, Like you got to beat

(28:50):
these guys to the spot. And Quincy has that, he
has that feel, has that feel, he has that speed
to the ball. It's critical to not let these guys
get runways, allies, and I feel like he can be
really disruptive in that. And then you know, he's always
been a good blitzer. He's always been a guy that
can attack the line of scrimmage. She's he times it
really well and there'll be a moment, you know, when they'll.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
Dive out dial that up.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
But I just think you need vacuum cleaners out there
just making you know, just cleaning these things up and
not letting these four yard plays go for you know,
fourteen or twenty yards and he has that ability to
take that angle and get guys off their feet.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Part, what have you seen from him on film? I
give you a couple of plays this week where he's
just been on it.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
You know where he's had great eyes, right we talk
about you know, the past to Henry to the flats,
you know, coming off a double pool, you know, from
near eye to far eye with the fullback trying to
grab the linebacker's eyes and then for the tight ends
right now to block, block, block, block and then take
off him having them in man coverage. Just having great

(29:53):
eyes and great awareness in the great feel for kind
of what offenses are trying to do. You're gonna get
a lot of that with Baltimore. You're gonna you know,
and remember the inside linebackers are like him, are playing
it from inside out.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
I mean that they're they're lying out over the guard.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
But the man that you're responsible for in pass covers
is two bodies away from you, so he's already had
you out flaking. But his tremendous speed to be able
to you know, run down guys and close the distance
is what you really love about him his ability to
cover ground, because that's really what you're gonna have to do,
especially with these new big tackles that they have. They're
not great as far as pass rushing from the inside,

(30:30):
but what they are is bodies that can eat up space,
which allows the smaller linebackers of the Jets to be
able to scrape. And you want to make sure that
you know, you make the ball bounce and go lotterly
and not come downhill at them and then allow you
to make tackles with angles. You got a rally to
the ball.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Offense, Remember what are the Jets that go ahead?

Speaker 3 (30:48):
I mean remember also Derrick Henry early in the year
had problems fumbling right fighting for extra yards. You can
get back in his head and get opportunities to get
the ball on the ground.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Jets need takeaways in the worst way. Offense will What
do you got to do with a guy like Kyle Hamilton.
We were talking about it before we start a taping.
They're using them everywhere.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
Baldy, Well, you have to identify him, you know, because
he's always moving and he's in a different spot almost
every play. So but you have to account for him,
you know, especially when he's at the line of scrimmage.
He will match up on Mason Taylor at times, you know,
in certain situations. But you have to almost like the
center is the quarterback is calling out the mic roquan

(31:28):
in this case number zero. But like you also have
to identify pre snap Kyle Hamilton because he's just so
disruptive in the way that they use him. I mean
he's literally it's positionless football when you watch Kyle play,
and so like he will disrupt your play if you
don't account for him and know whether it's the twist
stunts or you know, whether it's coming off the edge

(31:50):
like he and he's tall, so he gets his hands up,
he bats the balls down. You know, He's just a tall,
rangy athletic guy that they.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
Use in a variety of Oh yeah, he's a stressed
he's a stretched out palomolo.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Right sometimes his his responsibilities.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
He has no responsibility and they just allowed him to
be a football player.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
And do what he has to do.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
You know what I would really do early on if
he comes off on one of these blitzes, you cut
him because he's a big guy and he's he he
trusts that nobody's going to because I'm a little guy,
or or perceived as a little guy. Nobody's gonna cut me.
You cut them legs out. He has, he has decisions
to make when he comes at you. He won't come
as fast because he knows he could get cut in

(32:33):
DB's and stuff.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Aren't used to big balling and you're shooting.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
When somebody's cutting you to you'll punch the head and
punch the shoulder. You know, they kind of stop and
stand straight legging and put their hands down. You know,
when you're a defense we're talked to put our hands
out and then put it down. Punch the head, punch
the shoulder. To keep the guys from taking you out.
I'll cut the hell out of him. That's what I'll
do when he come up there. See how he likes.
See how because none of these guys were a thigh
pass them. Go cut him and chip him with that

(32:58):
elbow right on that thigh board. See if you how
bad he or he wont to blitz.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
There's some old school football for you all week long.
You know in Baltimore they're circling twenty What does angstrand
have to do to make sure that you're getting haul
of football in positive spots. You know, we talked about
the line before, but they're gonna be selling out against
them run here.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
Yeah, that's all right.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
You know, if you're selling out against the run, that
you can lead to big plays. You can't be you know,
you can't be deterred because you have a negative run
or you've run for two yards. Like when they're gambling
and they're selling out like that, it leads to big runs.
You know, somebody's gonna be out of the gap and
there's not the next layer to take care of things
if you block it up right, Like look that that

(33:44):
opening drive against the Patriots against a very good defense
and the number one run defensive football, Like that was
a great drive, like you liked, Okay that I'm sure
they you know, that was all you know, scripted on
Friday and Saturday and walk through and that's why they
executed so well. Like I would put that that drive
up for everybody in the building to see and you go,

(34:06):
this is what we could do to the same team,
to a team like Baltimore. It takes the crowd out
of it. It takes lamar off the field. Like if
you could put two or three of the drives like
that together in this game, you're gonna be in the
game in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Yeah, bartlet's on and there. I think the Jets are
totally growing. Like Bald you just mentioned earlier in the year,
we see these games getting away from them, you know,
like the Cowboys game stands out. Now you're playing against
the Patriots in one possession game. There's no moral victories.
Not saying that, but the Jets are playing a better
brand of football right now. They've become a more disciplined team.

(34:42):
They've become a tougher out and offensively, I've been really
encouraged by you guys talk about the line and running
the football. And I mentioned in Breeze is that teams
been loading the box against them and they've still had
an ability to run. Now, if they can just pick
up the pass a little bit, provide some more in
the game, like we talked about earlier on, you might

(35:03):
have something here this week.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Well, they're getting comfortable in the system, right, and they're
being able to get experience with each other so that
packages can grow, right. Packages that maybe had one or
two plays now have four or five, and they have
looks off of the other packages and looks off the
looks and that just comes with time and being inside
of a system and understanding, you know, having collective experiences. Well,

(35:26):
we did this, and this is what happened to us.
Like if this happens, everybody learned from what happened in
this situation. If this happens, you do this right, and
you know, we'll see what type of experience they have
with Tyrod, you know, with being in situations. I tell
people all the time, a veteran's not a veteran because
he doesn't he hasn't made mistakes. He's a veteran because
he's made the mistakes and he's grown from him not

(35:46):
to make the same mistakes because he knows what to
do in those situations. So what they're getting doing is
they're getting experience in their packages. You know, I was
with Rex my entire career, but it didn't start off
the way that people saw it. We had packages, we
got beat by certain things, other coaches had counters, and
we're able to grow the package because we just had

(36:07):
collective experiences that we can create. We can say, hey, man,
we did this in this game. Remember back in the day,
this happened let's just go back to this and it
may not even be in the game plan. We can
bring stuff that wasn't in the game plan, but it
could be you know, you know good for what was
going on with us, and we can throw it in
and we can understand. Because when you're great on offense

(36:27):
and defense, you don't know systems or plays.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
You understand concepts.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Right, Rex could create a fire zone, and we knew
that if you were the widest guy on the fire zone,
you're seen flat. If you're in the middle of the
fire zone, whether you're D linemen, linebacker or insert safety
your three receiver hook and you know you're seeing flat.
It didn't matter. So he can create it if we
identify that man. It seems like they run into this
particular player every time. Okay player fire zone and it

(36:53):
don't matter however you end up in it with the formation.
Whether it's closed left or close right, it's a fire zone.
Oh ain't nobody else out of me. I must be
the same flat guy. And that's how you create. So
that's what it is. When the whole idea of organized
chaos is that what's your plan? The plan is I
don't have a plan.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Well, The plan next week is for us to be back,
maybe earlier next week, for who Knows, A special a
