Welcome into the Players Club Playoff Edition. We're open the
show talking dubs other week and we're.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Running it back with the special guests to chop it
up about some of our favorite playoff.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Games, and we're answering some of your playoff questions. And
we're welcome you, Percy Butler to the Players Club to
wrap the show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Let's get it started.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
The Players Club is presented by Pepsi, the official soft
drink of the Washington Commanders, and in part by Johnson
Kendall Johnson, the official insurance broker and risk management partner
of the Washington Commanders, where our passion is your protection.
Welcome into the Playoff edition of the Players Club. I'm
London Fletcher. As always, I got my two co hosts
(00:50):
signed Towna Moss eight to nine and we got Sean
Springs aka Bluefoot Akau Baby.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Playoff editions out good many playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
It's that time of year, fellas. Yeah, man, fellas, how
y'all feel about it?
Speaker 5 (01:11):
You know? I feel good, man. I think coming into
this year we really never had.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
We didn't have any high expectations, man, bro I can
tell you week in and week out, we allowed his
staff to go out there and set the culture, build
the foundation. Uh Ap did it such a tremendous job
of just handpicking these guys, bringing the people in here,
and we allowed them to work. We allowed them to
go out there and play football and do what they do.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
Best, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Coming I was so I was so excited knowing that
we got Dan Quinn over here. And I remember hearing
so many folks like we need the offensive minded guy
and this and that. From the first interview, he laid
down how he felt about what he was trying to
build here with the coaching staff, of how he want
guys here, that whether he bringing a great offensive mind
(01:59):
guy not, he want want the guys underneath him to
learn from him. So we have to be dealt you know,
that guy leaving because of his success, that next guy
would be ready.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
And so just having all that.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Stuff, you know, Oh, I guess you could say say
it to us earlier, and then watching these guys play now,
this has been the first year I saw a coach
basically implement something and you saw it weekly, you know
what I mean. So I'm thrilled about where we're at
because you actually got to see these guys grow.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
You actually got to see these.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Guys become the team that he said he was trying
to have it, but we just ain't know if it's
gonna be year one, you know what I'm saying. So
that's the shocking thing about it. We didn't know it
was gonna be year one. But man, I'm proud of
him and I can't wait. I feel like we're playing
in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
On the team that last time we went to we'll
dig it today to that later. How you look at
looking at this team from week one or actually, let's
even go all the way back to SEQ was hot,
when d Q was hired, AP was hired, DQ was hired,
drafting the jade and pre season trad capitol. Then fast
(03:07):
forward to where we are now, we're a twelve and
five team.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Yeah, headed right to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, first of all, like everything Santana said, I totally
agree right when AP and the job they did. But
we always we talked about early in the year the
veterans that you know, you can have free agents, but
you bring in certain free agent veterans can make a
difference on your team. One Hall of famer my man
be Wagon and Bobby talked about him or had him
(03:34):
on the show this year, just having his presence on it.
We talked about, like a guy like that is going
to be the stabilizing for as much with London what
you did for us, So that was big. And then
you know that the superstar Frankie Lavou and then you
had Austin Eckler on the offensive side of the ball
who compliment b Rob and and when you start to
(03:55):
look at the mix, we was like we were early
and year it was like, how is this all going
to shake out?
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Right?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Drafting Jaden, Sinistrew Wiley, we had these young players and
then each week May Tempa, we were okay, we promising,
we look good. Jayden's all right, and then we saw
a little flashes of Jaden in preseason, but then the
season we kept having games, and then everybody kept saying, well,
Baltimore is a test, because everybody didn't want to believe
it was real, right, right, every well, Baltimore is your
(04:22):
first test, and then Pittsburgh is your test, then Philly
is your test. Then we had a little skid there, right,
and then it was like a little like we know,
we real, we know we got something. We know we
got a team, we know we got a quarterback, franchise quarterback.
I believe we all can agree that we got a
guy who's runaway rookie of the year franchise quarterback.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
But then I think we all agreed.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
That it was moments when we were like, we know,
we real it's let's just get to the playoffs. Because
if we get to the playoff with this quarterback and
this team and the brotherhood we've been hearing them talk
about all year, we got to fight it a chance
against got a punch of chances, right, I'll say this man,
just like Tanner you mentioned, it feels like we're a
(05:04):
part of this.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
You guys see the Bram.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Cam yo me and in the booth and.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
I be feelings but that but.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
That's my natural reaction to what's happening. Because I tell
people like they always ask me, Hey, what's what I
considered coaching?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
I say, man, for a former player, I.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Think coaching is especially coaching the NFL will be the
next best thing. You can't do that broadcasting and calling games,
and especially if you're calling game for the team that
you actually because I can show my truth, my bias,
whatever the case. My like I'm emotionally like when they
when when you see all these games, winning drives and
(05:53):
all that, like, that's just what comes out because I've
been around it for so long and seeing the down
isn't see and to see what this team is accomplishing,
just proud man.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
I'll say this. The way we've gotten to.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
This point the last four weeks, all coming down to
the to the final player of the game. The I
grew up a Cleveland Browns fan. We just called them
the cardiac kids. This is kind of cardiac. They called
us the Cardiac Commanders. But I believe we can beat
anybody man out here. And you mentioned the quarterback. You
(06:28):
when you have a quarterback like that, the great neutralizer, equalizer, who.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Can do to do that thing?
Speaker 1 (06:33):
And Marcus came in to show we got two quarterbacks
they can get back because you really sparked, He really sparked.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
All shout out and give a shout out to him
because I think that's big.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Oh yeah, Marcus Mariota. Offense wasn't doing anything in the
NFL half last year last week only six four yards
total offense just for four first downs.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
And he came in.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
He sparked us in then plays he made down the
stretch the fourth and one run, big run and then
a game winner to Terry. Just huge for him to
be ready for that moment. But it's a credit to
the coaching staff, credit to the personnel department, credit.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
To these guys.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
You mentioned the free agents that they brought in, most
of the majority of the free agents. It's one thing
to bring free agents in, but you got to bring
in the right guys. And it's not all about from
a talent standpoint. Yeah, there's a lot of big name
free agents out here, but if they don't fit what
you're trying to build and the right type of people,
(07:29):
the right makeup most of the most of the majority
of the free agents.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
They already had some type of.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Relationship with these guys, whether it's Bobby having played for
d Q and having played for Ken Norton Junior, the
running back coach, Zach Erch, the lineback coach. I said, say,
zach Ertz having that relationship with Cliff Kingsbury, Marcus May, Yeah,
Marcus Marioda was with Brian Johnson in Philadelphia and all
(07:57):
the Dallas guys that came came over here too.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
That's a very good point.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, the majority of those guys they had relationships with
and they knew, hey, Austin Eckler, they're already having that
relationship with athlete and Anthle Lynn. So these are not
only good football players, but these are the right type of.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Pr that we want to build our team around.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Put to that point, we were all kind of shocked
at the Hank got like that's right. So, I mean
maybe they was they were comfortable with o Z saying
he could be that third guy, and then we obviously
we see me now coming up.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
But yeah, yeah, that's a great point, hey, fellas. So
we got that victory, Yeah yeah, yeah, drop some duves, baby, man,
what are we gonna get a playoff edition?
Speaker 5 (08:48):
That put some diamonds on that thing?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
I understand Dubs of the Week, I would start with you,
who are you gonna give your dub two or dubs too?
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Well?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
For me, the double the Week goes to Marcus Mariolder,
you name some of the things. But the team, obviously
we talked about everybody's like, man, we struggled in the
first half against Dallason, and you said the second half
we moved the ball and a lot of it was and
we know how as players how hard it is you
can go in the game, knowing you in the playoffs
right now, you still got to fight for whether it's
(09:22):
the sixth seed or seventh seed and where you go.
But it's also a balance of who's gonna play, who's
not gonna play, because because because you want to get
into playoffs in Portland, you got to be healthy, right
so you know, so I a tribute a little bit
of the lackluster half that we have to guys just
(09:43):
trying to figure out who was gonna play together. And
for me, Marcus Mariolder came in and show they was
a pro. You know, early in the year they talked
about it was gonna be a quarterback battle, even though
we all knew who the quarterback is going to be.
But for him to be starting in Atlanta and then
and then come in and do what he did and
something the simple a stuff for some one, yeah, right, but
but big at the end of the game. I've seen
(10:04):
quarterbacks throw the ball out out the back, don't even
give him a chance.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
But he knew to.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Go to Terry, my guy, he's the guy.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Let's get the ball to him. Was it any doubt
in your mind who that ball was going to?
Speaker 3 (10:21):
I seen some guys, it wasn't no doubt, but if
you really think about it, and that's a tremendous you know,
double of the week called by you. When it comes
to Mariota, I think all us could have easily picked Mariota.
But think about the two point conversion. It was the
same route and he overthrew Terry. Yes, right, So when
we saw me and be missed, we in the Sweden
and be missed like damn, and I look back, I says,
(10:44):
a little too hot, a little too little, too far,
And for them to come back to it just shows you,
you know what this team has been made up all year.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
So let me let me add to that.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
We interviewed Terry out to the game, and my thing
was on the broadcast when it initially happened. I said,
how many times do you think Marcus and Terry have
had an opportunity to practice that that fad show the
fade because they don't know what's happening with Jaden and
and Terry. And we've seen the fruits of that labor
(11:15):
throughout the game and throughout the season. So we asked
Terry about it, and Terry's like, after the first one
or two point conversion where it was too hot or whatever.
He said, him and Marcus talked it out like, hey,
I'm gonna give I'll give Marcus your more room, give
him more room. This is what he can do with Marcus.
I'm put the ball up a little bit high. Get
(11:37):
your chance. So two veterans, they went on the sideline.
They talked it out after it did happen, and that
was the.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
That was the game.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
And speaking of you, saying, Terry Uh basically spoke about
giving them more room. You saw that because we talked
about that on the breakdown with Logan UH doing the
command centers where you know the guy had inside shape.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
You know you running fade, you know you're running you
want to have.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
You know, most guys are getting their head as a receivers,
especially kids, because I see my son do all the time.
I'm trying to teach him to oh I got all
this room, oud let me run to it. But that's
what the dB wants you to do because they want
to be able to use that sideline to your vantage.
So what Terry did initially is basically say all right,
I'm gonna I'm gonna take away his leverage by by
stemming to him.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Now we we type, and now I.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Have all this room for Markets to throw the So
now now only do I have, I have the leverage.
Now I done took over his leverage because I'm in space.
Now I got it. I'm running faster than him, so
I'm gonna have a step on them when I separate,
which he is still gonna be there. But Markets now
through a perfect ball and now I'm able to jump,
so on a pretty good corner.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
By the way, pretty good going his guy for picking
everything was perfect.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
And if you look at you like, bro, like how
could we keep being perfect on these last minute But
that just going to show you the preparation and where
it all starts.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
It to your point to the last minute part.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
No panic, Yeah, no panic, And that's what he's said.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
They believe that they can fight, they can win to
fight every time, and that's why you see and you know,
I want to use this to kind of transition into
my double.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
The week because like I say, we all can.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Sit here and say, Marcus Terry, anyone whose guys I'm
gonna need a defense for you, But I'm gonna say
dan Quinn because that was a you know how he
said he's a lot of times when he talking to
the med, he talking about badass players and badass and.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
He got on them.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I remember we was flying back home that night and
he was like, hey man, he got on the he
got on the little intercom system and basically say, man,
it was a badass performances get ready for a playoff
game and going to Tempa and bro the feeling I feel,
I'm like, I love this dude.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Man, this dude just.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Know how to talk, know how to basically row his
his lieutenants, all his soldiers up, man, and be ready
for war.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
So the reason why I want to give him.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
The double the weakest because I feel like it was
a badass call after halftime to put Marcus Mariota in
the game, knowing that, hey, I know the world want
to see this young phenom. We want to see this
young phenom. But I wanted to be healthy, to be fresh.
I'm gonna put a guy in here who I know
is more than capable to go out here and lead
this team.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
And it's one thing a good trust and put trust
in it. Trust. Trust is everything. But it's one thing
that's doing that.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
The other thing is just knowing that these guys know that, Hey, man,
I have this kind of a team that I can
call on my soldiers when I need be. Marcus have
showed his staff that, hey, not only if I'm here
on this team to be a backup quarterback, you can
trust me at any giving moment of the game.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
Now that's fat. Let's go back to the last game
that we want at home.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
When you know the young Pheenix took us down there
and won that thing in the last minute and overtime.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Who was the guy that lift them up? Marcus Mario.
So this guy has took.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
It on his role as a as a I guess
you could say, a mentor, a leader, and a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
That's man. Look, I've been here, I've been in your shoes.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
You might have a little more than I had when
I was here, but I learned so much through my
sense of different teams. And that is a good dude,
great dude. So my double the week man, Dan Quinn.
I think it's a badass coaching job he done all
all this year. Man, you know, getting our guys ready
to fight and be in every fight and go out
there and win those games. And man, it just shows
you this team definitely basically, you know, walk in his shadow,
(15:10):
show you man that this this is our leader, and
we we walk into the same beat as him.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Oh man. Two excellent dubs of the week. I'm I'm
gonna give out two dubs of the week. First and foremost,
I'm gonna give out a dub of the week to
the Reds on defense. The defense, Yeah, that was that
was the difference in the ball games.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
I saved the defense for you. About the yeah, I
appreciate defense Blue. One of the things we did great.
Let's play Reds.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
On the defense.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
We call it defendive.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Every blade of grass you can get it on, get
down here, but make them kickfield goals. The Dallas Cowboys
got into the red zone six times, only one touchdown,
big difference.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Make them kickfield goals. And they had one where they
come okay way with no points.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
So you had the four field goals, one touchdown and
one way didn't get any points at all.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
That part of the game was outstanding. The Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, they were able to move the ball get into
that situation, but the defense Reizon defense tightened down, kept
him out of the end zone, made him kick field goals.
One guy in particular off the defense that I'm going
to give a double the Week two.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Mikey samarstick Mikey sam.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Yes, sir man, he balled man comfortable you you yeah,
you're you're watching it like dam Mikey's made us several
players in this game and didn't realize that. You see
the stats after the game. Ten tackles, three passes defense
PEPSI Rookie of the Week. Yeah, because he I mean,
(16:49):
there was a couple where he the receivers thinking they're
gonna catch the ball, come out, punch it out. He
had a couple couple of big, big licks. O'll standing
out standing football. So I'm gonna give I would give
him a double the week as well.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
And to that point, you know when you see young
guys like that, he makes it look like he's been
doing it, like he's not a radic. He's comfortable with it, like, yeah,
you might catch a little something. He come up and
he physical when you see a statu and we had
him on the show. He not a big guy. In fact,
we learned that he was a receiver of Michigan for
three four years. But man, London, that's a big one
(17:23):
because man, that kid man just and we can touch
on this going into the play. You're talking about Tampa
going it but that I thought he was great at nickel,
but when when he seemed to move outside, it's a
meal or the defense seemed to elevate even more with
him because I.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Was I didn't think he was going to be the outside,
inside guy. He looks so good.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
He's a guy.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
That you know that you can honestly say that plays
the position well and shows you that, hey, I can
be used wherever you need to use him.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
You know what I mean? One thing to be in
a corner.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
I hate when you have to label a guy as
an inside or outside guy. If you play car Broke,
learn how to play everything. That's how I did as
a receiver. Smooth was just the corner.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
I was inside, just letting you know everybody, let me
put that, let me put the.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
One shot out, let me put the one up to
one exp smooth. I knew that, I knew a smooth
bide outside.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
I tell you one thing, smooth more you live in
rit free and all our hisas man, because boy, we
we can't about smooth man.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
They showed a videos smooth the other day. They showed
our defense smooth by mister damn didn't didn't contain the defense.
Let the running back get outside. Player should have went
for three yards either, let it go for fifteen yards?
Speaker 5 (18:39):
What more? You gotta know.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
It depends on if his shoulders was warming up. But
he could tell you I was ready to talk, Like,
what do you mean? I tell you one thing?
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Yeah, you boys laughing? Ready for play? Run doing with you?
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Give it up fifteen yard runs the blue.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
I just had to make a decision right there. Let
it told you you remember. I don't even know if
you remember that I smoked. Don't come out here and
give up the third time cats.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Bullying man.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
To your team like that I looking at it. Don't
come on here? Has been saying that London been bullying lady. Hey,
this is a good one. Good segweg Man.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
You know Drive Times with eighty nine presented by Easton
Automotive Crew, Any car, anyway for everyone since nineteen eighty eight.
All right, fellas you know, Drive Times is one of
my favorite segments of this show man. And you know
what I want to start this one off with is
give me, give me one of your favorite memories of
the playoff. They don't have to be necessarily because we
(19:46):
all we all wanted other teams play for other teams.
But just give me some of your favorite playoff memories.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Man, Well, I got I got to I went to
the Big Dance twice one one.
Speaker 8 (19:58):
So yeah, I don't talk about Super Bowl, big fletch,
that's how you feel. I don't even talking about so
y'all like that.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
But I'll say this.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Two moments that happened the season that we won in
the in the Super Bowl ninety nine rams that the
NFC Championship game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were we
were losing that game six five. We're losing that game
six five. Late in the game, and Ricky pro who
(20:41):
was like the fourth receiver on that team.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Made a heck of this is the Tampa team who.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
D Brooks, the Brooks re Rendez Barber, this is the
Tampa team and went to John Lynch.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
They ended up going to the Super Bowl the year later,
a couple of years later and winning.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Yeah, so it was I mean, they held show on turf.
We have literally we had five points at the end
of the ball game and Ricky Prol makes over the
shoulder catch for the game winner to we were losing
six five to put us in the in the Super Bowl.
So that moment that that game was in Saint Louis.
(21:22):
Game was in Saint Louis, Yeah, I mean it was.
It was crazy against a uh they brought a blitz.
Kurt Wanner knew it. He had a he had a
guy free runner coming at him, so he had to
stand in the face of pressure.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Was on Brian Kelly too, I think, yeah, Brian Kelly.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Had had to stand and deliver. And Ricky, like I said,
he's the fourth guy.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
He wasn't.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
He wasn't Isaac Bruce, he wasn't Tory Hold, he wasn't
Isaac King.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
He was the fourth receiver.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
But he was a hell of a When I say
fourth receiver, Ricky would have been a two on some teams.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
So but he was.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
He made a play and then we go off and
win the Super Bowl on the tackle by Mike Jones
on the one yard line. I mean, those those two moments.
Doesn't get bigger than that is to have those moments,
those winning moments made in those scenarios, and those will
forever be extat to my memory.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
That's crazy. I remember that.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
I think my favorite memory probably is last time we
went down to Tampa. Just playing that game, that was
that was a tough game. You know, that was a
tough game. That was hard fo I mean was we
end up beat them seventeen ten.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
But it was just two interceptions interception by lev Inception
the first quarter.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Yeah, v try to run that thing was like that.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
But the thing I have, Yeah, but the thing I'm
most proud about is that that was a game where
it just felt like we went down there and beat
a good team.
Speaker 5 (22:47):
And I remember like the better team won, but it.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Was like and I was just like, wow, like we
got a shot, we have it, we have a chance.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
But that was that was a good game. I just
remember just being a good game. It's interesting about that game.
I just saw some highlights of the day. Sean Ran
picked up a fumble, ran ran it back for a touchdown.
So you think about it, that's three turnovers, like it's impossible.
As good as that Tampa Bay team was, they still
bro They had a touchdown, They bombed us spend time.
I think it was Rogers or something. Rogers Carlins had
(23:17):
great coverage on him, but I don't know if he
was if he had help or not. But that guy
got between the safety and Carlos caught the ball, but
some kind of way didn't hold on too.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
When he came down, it was called incomplete.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
That would have been like that play was on smooth.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Even when smooth not here we call it his day,
but no, honestly, so if you think about it like
it was ten, it was they had it, you know,
not the feeling I'm talking about.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
He had three three.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Turnovers that game. So that's how difficult it is to
win the playoffs, you know what I mean? Because you
got a team that they at home, Temple was at home,
was in Temple, it was and they still was. They
still even lost to us by seven, and we had
three turnovers.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
So that's to me.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
I look at games like that in playoff games, environments
and memories. Man, you're interested way of having it, but
that's what you want to be sound and I got.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
I got a negative memory from the playoffs too that
I remember. I was in the Seahawks game when Matt
Hasselback goes out on the corn flip. We want the
ball and we're gonna win. I was on that team.
It was like negative thirty degrees. It was two thousand
and three, two and three.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Man, it's cold as hell out there. It's about negative degrees.
Our receivers dropped about ten balls, but we balling right.
And I never forget We've been hitting them on hitches
all day. It's third and four whatever it was.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
They call it times.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Call the time out, and coach holkerm had been telling Matt,
do not throw outside. Throw the hitch outside to number one,
throw right here at number two, get the hitch, get
to get down. Bobby Ingham's killing Yeah. Man, they called
the time out. I picked it off, ran it back. Man,
the whole stadium crazy. I remember that, like it was crazy.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
I was on it.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
I was like, that's one of the best plays, I said,
you asked. I was like, man, what happens? Like coach,
So we were either lose it here or we're gonna
win it here jumping everybody jumping because.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Our you know Florida boy, you know South Florida boy
from from for out of there. And I remember, like,
you know, that's one of the things you have connection
wise playing in this league, especially playoff time, when you're
not in the dance, you're not on the show. You know,
we wasn't in the playoffs that year, and I was
in New York at the time. I had a great season,
that was my first Holland Yard season. I remember sitting
home watching that game crazy and kind of like rude.
(25:38):
I had no team that I'm really rooting for, but
I'm picking out players, so I'm looking at and ours
one of those guys.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
So I always heard about.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
And watched play so I was, you know, I was
geeked about that. My my fondest memory of the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
You know.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
So when I was in New York, I was just
telling the fan this the other day. A guy was like, man,
you know, what is it. What's the difference between you
being in New York and in DC? And I think
the fan wanted me to kind of like, you know,
down talk in New York. And I'm like, look, bro,
I'll be honest with you. You couldnot be happy somewhere
but still have success, you see what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
I feel that I wasn't.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Pleased with New York because I was just a young
pup that didn't really want to be in the big Apple.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
It was.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
It was too big for me, I think coming out
of college. But once I got the plan, everything similar down.
I was playing football. I care less about where I
was at because I can.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Go home when i'm you know, when I'm done.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
But my success as far as the team was four
years I was there, went to three playoffs and one
and went the second round twice.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
You see what I'm saying. So bro, Like, my first real.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Fondest memory of the playoffs was year two, which was
my It was two thousand and two, which was my
first real season of playing because two thousand and one.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
I was hurt the entire year.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
I played the last four games of the season and
I was on wasn't even the shell of myself. I
was just out there, you know, I mean, you know,
my leg was able to be out there, So coaches
threw me out there. But year two, and I believe
that the coach had just got out I'm not sure
know what year they they just left our first year
and so they visions the f C East and we
(27:09):
played them first round playoffs at All New York.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
I want yeah, yeah, we wanted to.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Hear this for Peyton with years four, Bro, we beat
those dudes. Forty something.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Had to be on that team, yeah, loaded team, they noted,
So we beat them forty something and don't quote me,
but I might need Maddie the fact check this for me.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
It was either forty something to six. What we put
We put a whooping on him and.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
I had a touchdown that belt out yea so and
just think.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
About it like as a young pup playing the game.
I'm on the sideline, like what we got it? We're
doing this to them right right, And it was just
like one of those memories I never forget. I remember Wayne,
I caught it. I mean me and wayneb Me and
Waynekubec and Coles. That was the year he was called
the sixty under boys. We was on one. Wayne led
the team in touchdowns. Cole had a thousand yards and
(28:13):
that was my coming out year. I had like four
hundred some yards, but I had like two point return
touchdowns that year and like four receiving touchdown here. So
we was on one as a core and that got
that year, got Coles to come here and Chad Pennington
he's a quarterback and bro. So that that was like
my fun. Like all the playoff memories I got, I
had some good ones. I have some I had some
(28:33):
good ones there and I have some good ones here
that stands out the most, you know what I mean,
And they don't stand out because of something individually, just
what we did as a team.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
You know, yeah started off.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
It's hard to follow that though Big fleshed off with
two rings, but I.
Speaker 9 (28:47):
Mean to.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Would have saved me.
Speaker 9 (28:54):
That's my BA over here first with the fans ot
the big black. You know, look, this is what Fred
talking about.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
He is bully.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
I got a lot of stuff built up inside of
me that I never was able to while I was playing,
because there were times I would.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Want to go to the media.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Well they asked us about a team, they talked about it.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
That's what I want to say.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
I got something and it's just simmer because but I
didn't want you know, especially like Mike.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Mike didn't want us.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
In the media giving any tayed motivation to play this
speaking how to lay this happened to this dude.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
But speaking of speaking of that that that Super Bowl runs,
you know, being a part of two of them.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Describe the energy so we playoff. Energy is different. It's
second to none.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
It's nothing like what you experience in a regular season
or preseason.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
We already know preseason energy.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Want to be even though guys will come out and say, well,
I played the line.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
It's not it's not the describe it.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
It's not the same. I say this first and foremost.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
It hold on, hold on before you get to it
is the super Bowl. They are the super Bowl. Super
Bowl game different from the regular playoff.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Oh yeah, absolutely, it's different. Let me start with the playoffs.
I know we got to move on, but there is
a difference and intensity. Like go from preseason to regular
season that wraps up. Go from regular season to the postseason,
it raps up even more and you can feel it
even in the week leading up to practice. The intensity.
(30:30):
To me, there's gonna be more media obligations for these
guys for the playoffs something. Yeah, national media in the building,
National media in the building. You can't run and high
like you want to and get away, so there'll be
more responsibility. The thing that you must guard against, especially
as a defensive guy, when you're playing these games, it's
trying to do too much, trying to say I'm gonna
(30:52):
make a play.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
I want to be everybody watching, I'm.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Gonna make a pick, I'm gonna jump something, and that's
when you end up costing your team because I try to.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Do too much.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
But as you go each week, that testicity wraps around
more because the stakes are a lot higher, Like, Okay,
the first round, the game gonna be, it's gonna be,
it's gonna be hyped the next game and then the
nc Man when I said that NFC Championship game, Like
the coaches are tighter in those meetings that like you
can feel the intention. As far as the super Bowl,
(31:22):
it's a different type of because of all of the
hoop lie and the pomper circumstance that goes along with
or now.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
You're talking about that, the.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
What's that week is what's the whole gauging of just
how you just talk like how you used to have
to gauge yourself with the media and not say some
of the things that you really want to say. How
do you gauge that emotion from like this super Bowl week?
The week going through the week knowing that, man, the
game is Sunday, you can spass out come Monday because
you're just so overly hyped about it and not be
(31:53):
yourself come Sunday.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
How did you gauge that?
Speaker 1 (31:56):
That's where you That's when hopefully you got somebody, whether
it's a coach, a veteran player, somebody who's gone through
before to try to help you navigate that beforehand, like hey,
in your team meeting, before you even leave your building
to go to the to the state, to the city
that you're playing in. Just kind of getting those guys like, hey,
(32:18):
don't try to talk too much of the media. Still,
kind of go to your route, get your hand of
your ticket situation, get out and get that out.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Of the way. And there's by the end of the week,
you're so exhausted from the media, all the different responsibilities.
Guys get frustrated. They start chapping.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Yeah, and you'll see every year somebody gonna say something
I guaranteeing a victim, so some of those guys don't
have to handle it.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
Well, it is.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
It is a challenge that that piece of.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
It, well, you know, we can talk all day about that, man,
And I'm glad you got a chance to kind of
get a fans a little insight on that experience.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Man, I went through it twice. All right, Fellas, it's
time and set to Tom. Brought to you by Johnson Kendoll.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Johnson the official insurance broker and risk management partner of
the Washington Commanders where our passion is your protection. But
for this set the tone, we're gonna do it a
little bit different, switching love. We actually got some fun
questions we're gonna love that with. And it's a playoff edition,
so we're gonna start this one off with.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Chris J. Brophy at Chris J. Brophy.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
What can players and coaches learn from the first game
versus the Buccaneers this season?
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Blue, What you think?
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Well, I think the one thing they can learn for
me was Jaden's experience that was early in the season
and first game, first game, first first game for him,
first get NFL game, and so I think Jayden was
just getting the sweet Well, I think Jayden, you know,
it was coming off his first look, first reading and
then taking off runner. So I think the coaches feel
(33:48):
more comfortable expanding the play. But because remember they were
talking about they not even opening it all the way up.
Speaker 5 (33:53):
He just needs to learn.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
So the coaches now have a pluthora of plays that
they can call for Jaden.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
That's the first thing.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
The second thing is, I think there is no secret
Baker Mayfield is probably the hottest quarterback in the NFL.
And we had a chance to see them and now,
whatever we did the first game, we better make some
adjustments because that boys playing some good football and we
got to give a shout out to him. But our
defense is playing great. So I think that the easier
(34:21):
way to say it is, I think that we know
what Baker is doing and what their offense is capable,
we're gonna have to We're gonna have to make some
serious adjustments to the combat what they're doing.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I think, when you really want to look at it,
the first game to me was like taking your kid
to school for that first day and really trying to
see you, like letting them know, you know how you
kind of really, you know, want them overtake the parents, like, look,
don't let nobody bother you today. Make sure you do
your lesson, make sure you listen to the teachers, the teacher, be.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
Safe, you know all that. I think that's how we
step into that game.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
We approached that game with training wheels, and as the
season got going, you saw you saw that kid learning
to ride that bike.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
And so if you if you want to be technical
about it, I think these guys can now ride the bike.
They're ready to go out there and explore deeper into
the neighborhood.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
You know, on their journeys, and that's how I look
at it.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
I mean, I just feel like our team is seasoned
to a point where we didn't even expect these guys
to be where they're at right now. We didn't we
didn't expect them to be that well rounded as a team.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
And so if I'm pretty sure Todd bow is telling him, like, look, don't.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
Get it twisted. Different teams. This is a different team
coming in different thing.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
You can sit there and look at that Dallas game
if you want to. You can look at all them
nail biters, but that's what they do, and that shows
you where they've been and how far they can go.
Because if you can go out there and playing them
games week at the week at the week.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
At the that's the team.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
That's the team I'm scared of, because you know why,
it's like going to school and that one dude that
everybody's look at him and say, oh that go try him,
but he ain't scared of you, you see what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Or the kid that was sorry at the start of
the season.
Speaker 5 (36:03):
So that's what you from me sitting back looking.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
I use so many different analogies about where we are
as a team today from from week one, and I
think that's what Temple looking at it. Man, you can
look at him and say, man, they're not the first
They're not that kid that came to school for the
first time. The more they're not that kid that couldn't
rape that bike. And he not to push over. So
don't think you're gonna go over and pushing move now.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
You you'll learn a lot by from that first game
against the Tip of Bay Buccaneers first and foremost matchups,
like you've had an opportunity to go against their guys,
They've had opportunity to go against You.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Got different X factions, dropping free agent, traded for somebody
for a particular matches.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Yeah, you talk on that.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
So you you'll have the experience of knowing, hey, having
gone against these guys have a face, whether it's a
left tackle going against their past rushers, having gone against Vitave.
If you're Tyler be Odish, hopefully Tyler to be able
to play, you.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
Know more versus Mike Evans.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yeah, so we already know about those who a lot
of their a lot of things understanding how Tampa viewed
your defense and how they tried to attack you. We
had a lot of miscommunications from a defense standpoint. They
tried to get you in a lot of bunch formations
stuff like that. So you can learn, hey, this is
who they are. This we got to communicate a lot
(37:18):
better against these certain looks. That's uh, that's that's something
you can you can blame from this and and and
look at it from the run game, from defensively as
far as stopping their run. Going into that game, first
game of the season, Tampa was one of the worst,
if not worst team Russian football a season ago. That
ball game they had success running the ball against It
(37:42):
is nice understanding, Hey, this is a different type of
run game Tampa. Bay Buccke is you have to respect
these guys you mentioned Baker. Baker is a lot more
difficult to get down than you probably thought. It's slippery,
but he's also stronger than people, real strong law. He breaks,
(38:04):
he breaks, tackles, able to throw guys off of him.
So having a different respect for him when it comes
to rushing, the rushing the passers. So there's a lot
of things.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
Do you change? Do you do? You do you as
a real quick as.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Alitter rusher, Do you really have to change some techniques
and where you think about it, like.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Baby, you have to slower down of Harris when you
when it's come time to tackle him, when you're about.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
To engage on him.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
Engagement.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
Yeah, so you have to kind of just.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Steve mcner, you got to exhale a little bit and
just maybe timper down just a half a second.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
To that being said, that's what we did in Arizona,
and I think it was because of what went on
a great point against I think.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
So you you'll you'll think your real class rush game
plan has to be different and bakery. He's he's six
feet maybe five eleven. You want to try to keep
him in that pocket in a phone booth as much
as possible. He can still make the throws there, but
let's make him do that.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Do you treat them like do you.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Treat him like Jalen the stats with not a little different,
a little different, Just you want him in that booth
and don't try to get past him, okay, because he's
gonna step up in the pocket. So as you're coming up,
especially if you defensive end, don't get past him. Maybe
you'll see a lot more bull rushes things like that
to try to really keep him.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
In that especially especially the interior part of that play,
because yeah, he's loting and out of that thing, and
he's gonna get the running ball like a running back.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
All right, let's go to this next question. Okay, what
it was the playoffs week? What was practiced like? Was
it more focused, more intense, same or same as other practices?
Speaker 5 (39:52):
Let me let me start. It was fun.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah, honestly I got a kick out of the playoff week.
I'm gonna go back to my young pup days and
this could add to one of the segments when we
talked about, you know, the intensity and just the emotion
and all that stuff, the you know, the things that
go on. I don't know what it was when I was,
you know, playing ball, but just to play and being
that it was almost like the experience you felt as
(40:17):
a kid for Christmas, that same kind of joy. That's
how I felt in the playoffs. I felt like, man,
this is it's just us, you know what I mean?
All the other teams that got the chance to go,
but by the time our game come on, it's gonna just.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
Be us playing, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (40:29):
And it was a joy preparing because now you knew
you could either be one and done or you go
out and do your thing and then you're.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
Gonna move on.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
And so I really got a kick out of just
the preparation part too, because not only was it you,
was it more hammers and shorts around that time too,
because now I think it's a long season. Coaches ain't
trying to beat you up, and they know if you
can't come up here and play with your hard hat
the way it's supposed to be played, then then we
won't be having you on the team next your time around.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
So that's what I got a kick out of.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Just knowing that, man, this is like gonna be like
an up tempo walk through type vibe. Yeah, we're gonna
go out there live with the you know. And we
got more work against our one defense too, you know
what I mean. We did a lot more things with
the ones. It was one on ones because we know, like, hey,
this playoff time we got to go.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
For me, I like to play off football because I
felt like at this point in the season, for sure,
the teams they are who they are, and I felt
comfortable because.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
We were who we were.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
You knew you're gonna play us.
Speaker 5 (41:24):
We wanna line up press.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
It wasn't gonna be like I felt like playoff allowed
us to play faster because we weren't.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
It wasn't like we had.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Ten games, seventeen games, or sixteen games on people. And
I felt like, especially when I'm on the defensive side
here in Washington, I felt like we were in our bag, like.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
We were good.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
We knew what we were gonna do. Like you beat us,
you beat us like it ain't like it ain't hard.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
It's gonna be hard.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
It ain't.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
It ain't no secret. We're gonna stock the box.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
We're gonna blit some guys, and you're gonna have to
get after us. So for me, the intensity, I would say,
it was like not like we practiced like harder, but
more so London. I can recall just like our keys
with sharp right. Hey Blue, you know two about two doubles,
(42:13):
third and two.
Speaker 4 (42:13):
I'm a ram call. It's gonna bounce.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
You be ready.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
I say stuff like I say the thing for for
for me as a as a defensive play caller, linebacker,
middle guy, I wrapped up my intensity and you guys
knew I was intention but I was more demanded on
on guys because.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
But you also had a super Bowl in your bell,
so you knew what it was gonna take.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
But even before I got too even before that, because
guys have the tendency to exhale.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
There's some guys, yeah, you we made the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
But I actually became more demanded from attention to details
that I was talking about being in those practices, like
because I knew, like this is what we're gonna We
gonna be on point. We know we're not gonna have
any miscommunications. We're not gonna be you know, gray airs
and all that. So I wrapped up my like the
(43:10):
focus and demanding more.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
And that's kind of what I was saying, Like I
remember our meetings because we always had a production board
where certain guys like you can produce. But I felt
like even as in London was a captain on the defense,
like he demanded it from everybody, right, Like it's because
because sometimes you can plant be on the team and
this guys that's gonna make plays. That's that's that's We
(43:32):
all had different like the superstars, right, I was probably
the most known, but but but you know, everybody keep going, keep.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
We already we're gonna We're gonna do one last question.
So this question was this from uh You're your d
Mob thirty. It's a two part question now she she's
mentioned it to me and brom or me.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
But I'm gonna throw this out to you guys as well.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
He says, London, you and Brown final caused this last
month and all you have been epic and that great
reflection of the fans excitement. Which game win, which game
winning moment has been your favorite? So I'm gonna throw it.
I'm gonna pose it all out for for all of us,
not just me.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
To be honest with you, it's easy because to sit
here and say that hell Noah.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
Yeah, well.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
It's easy to say hell Noah.
Speaker 3 (44:28):
But I'm gonna go and say, I'm gonna say the
Philly one.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
You said the Philly That's right, Philly.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
I'm gonna say Philip, I say the hell Noah had
us all because I think that was like one you
know what I mean, That was like the one at
the time. You know that Philly one did something different
Because to me, it was just that we thought, I
can't say we from.
Speaker 5 (44:48):
The looks of things, we didn't have a chance in
that game.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
You see what I'm saying, Like to me, I thought, man,
just keep fighting, y'all, because but at one point, being the.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
Breaks off Philly, I mean, you're talking about Philly. I'm
trying to feel.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
Philly game got a hand early, you know, but for
the sake of just some of the things that was
partaking in the game that I kind of like.
Speaker 5 (45:13):
You know what, have a chance.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
You know, I didn't really know how much of a chance,
but I'm like, bro, we're still in this thing, Like
we was scoring, scoring before you know it.
Speaker 5 (45:20):
By the time we made that walk.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
From the suite to the to the tunnel, I'm like,
oh man, we got a chance. So the I mean,
the Philly game stands out to me because it was
just as recent as all the other couple of ones
that I could have had mentioned. But I think being
that it was the divisional game and arrival, it was
sweet to have a game whining touchdown on that one.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
I'm pretty simple, the hell the hell hell it was
like that's one of those moments, like we said earlier
in the year, like that was like Monday night miracle.
Speaker 5 (45:49):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
I will never forget that.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
I will never forget that brom just like I don't.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Know what I was, man, That's simple for me.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Man, There's so many that I'm gonna say the last
one and the with Terria and Marcus Marioda, and I'm
saying the last one only because Cowboys. And also you're
trying to win your twelfth game, Smili five.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
You succeed, mister.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Dallas Cowboys, and you were on we were on a
four game win. The streak you want to have, want
to continue to go into the playoffs, so to come
back and to play the way we played in the
first half, but the fourth and one play that that
Marcus had to get us down in that position and
then for him and Terry again to make that catch,
for Terry to set the franchise record those TV receptions,
(46:42):
he had a vice grip on that football.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
It was not.
Speaker 5 (46:46):
Only that watching to the tuck. He caught that thing.
And you know it's difficult because you know them DB's wait.
Speaker 4 (46:51):
For you to bring in and usually want to go
like that.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
You know, normally we're catching it as we've seen, were
looking for the ground. Terry like I know where I'm at.
He caught it. The watch to the tuck like he literally.
Speaker 4 (47:02):
Watched every piece of that ball.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
The yeah, no, I'm gonna go with that. That last one.
That that last one is uh my favorite moment.
Speaker 9 (47:10):
Man.
Speaker 4 (47:11):
All good, all great questions.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
Yelling like they all you know what you say, Brot
get his waight.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
Up alright, fellas, that's it. That's such and toe right there.

oh Man b Mitched. Welcome to the Players Club.
Speaker 4 (49:28):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (49:28):
Appreciated this playoff time.
Speaker 2 (49:30):
Yeah, give us some of your thoughts around this man,
this team.
Speaker 10 (49:35):
I've been excited about this team, you know, I've been
covering this team for a long time and uh hadn't
been a lot to cheer about, you know, and right now.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
What is going on?
Speaker 10 (49:43):
You know, you look at the ownership, the front office,
coaches and the players. They all get it. You know,
everybody seems to be on the same according Uh, we
now are light years away from that first game where
we saw some things that we didn't like. But hell,
they've corrected a lot of those things. And I'm kind
of confident about this game coming up.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
Yeah, because we obviously opened up with Tampa, so you know,
and you had the chance to go down there the
first time.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
What's gonna be different this time?
Speaker 10 (50:09):
Well, I think the difference now in that first game,
you saw a veteran defense coordinating Todd Bowles be able
to do some things that kind of affected Jayden a
little bit. You flip it over. Baker Mayfield was masterful.
They got to him, he just didn't get him to
the ground. I think the ultimate thing that if they
can get to him and get him to the ground,
and Jade, and I think you look at him over
the people he's seen two times the next time he
(50:31):
faced somebody, same things.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
On work that work before. He's a much more mature kid.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
Now.
Speaker 10 (50:36):
I think overall, the team is better and I expect
him to go out there and play better.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
It should, it should, it should and if you got
timing and yeah, yeah, so one of the things, yeah,
so one of the things we talked about obviously you're
seeing the second time Tampa. The second time we talked
about here on touched on Baker Mayfield. You know, if
(51:00):
you had to think about going down to Tampa and
it's what is it going to really take to win
this game?
Speaker 5 (51:06):
You think when you.
Speaker 10 (51:07):
When you go on the road in the playoff game,
Me and Tamma talk about this all time winning, winning
a turn.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
Over battle, right, you have to do that.
Speaker 10 (51:14):
But the ultimate thing is I saw them get opportunities
in that first game and they did not capitalize off
of them. You have to capitalize off the opportunities that
you get. And what I've seen throughout the year, you know,
this team in the first half, they have not been
good against the run, but they've done some things in
the second half where they eliminated some of the better
running backs in this league.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
So I think if they could start the game and
if don't.
Speaker 10 (51:36):
Wait until halftime, begetting to make some adjustments early on.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
But you got to make those adjutments on the side.
Speaker 10 (51:42):
You know what can what changes you made throughout the
year that made your team, your defense better. You have
to do that. I think if Marshawn Lattimore is healthy
That's a big plus for the defense because all of
a sudden.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
He could cover Mike Evans and you can make it.
You can pin a games with the other guys.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Do you want to put them on Mike Eamons coming
off a hammy or you kind of you could put
him on the other.
Speaker 4 (52:02):
Guys, and I think you can play him around.
Speaker 10 (52:04):
But what I've learned about dan Quinn, he ultimately doesn't
like his guys on the field until they're healthy. And
if Mike Evans I think was more important playing against
Tampa this week than playing against Dallas last week. I
really believe if Dallas was a playoff game, he would
played the game.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Hey, b Mitch, so you like myself for a former champion,
they said, wiched between two.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
I'm about to join Fred in London.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
You were part of a team that had the last
playoff run, the last like playoff run, that ninety one
Super Bowl team, team that many considered one of the
greatest in the NFL history. This team, especially on offense,
has tied or had some of those records that I've
only been done since nineteen ninety one. You look at
(53:00):
this team, the simulargs, what will it take for them
to have a playoff run similar towenty that you guys
had a nineteen ninety one.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Total team effort.
Speaker 10 (53:09):
The one thing I've been asking for for a long
time is to see this team play the absolute best offensively, defensively,
and special themes. If they do something like that, I
think they run Tampa off the field, and that's difficult
to do. But that team in nineteen ninety one was
in the top five rankings, top three offense, defense, and
special teams. It's kind of hard to lose those games.
(53:29):
But then again, we had played against who was it.
We played against Detroit early in the season, beating forty
five nothing, beat them forty one ten. In the playoffs,
we played against Atlanta, we beat them fifty seven of
fifty three to fourteen or earlier year. We had some
turnovers in that game, they blocked punts. We still beat
them fifty seven. Then we came back in to the
playl and beating twenty seven and three. The thing about
it is we were so confident that we didn't make mistakes.
(53:51):
People look at that team and that team doesn't get
the love it should because there weren't a lot of
individual stars on that team. You had a bunch of work,
pale guys that went on on the field. They did
their job, didn't make spectacular plays, but they didn't make mistakes.
And I think that's what it's going to take in
this game. One thing I know this team is shown,
(54:12):
especially down the stretch, that if they got the ball,
they got a chance. In the end, you better be concerned.
Even they did it with Jayden five times. Then they
came back with Mary Odin did it. They are going
to come out here. If they keep themselves in this
game and keep themselves close, Baker will throw the ball
to other people, you know, And I think Washington has
(54:33):
and no they're not Kansas City. But Jaden is starting
to get that same little mantre as Pat mahomes to
give it to him late.
Speaker 5 (54:39):
You got problems speaking of you mistakes.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
You just mentioned that, And that's something that we've seen
the last what three four weeks, penonties went up, say
the least, We've still been in these.
Speaker 5 (54:50):
Games to win them at the end. What would a
clean game be like for us?
Speaker 3 (54:56):
If we play a clean game, how good can this
team really be?
Speaker 4 (55:00):
You and I sit there and we watch the games
all the time.
Speaker 10 (55:02):
Every sweet week can find if we watch a clean
game and watch how this game go. You I look
on your face and you look on min We are
stressed as hell, And I tell them all the time.
He I mean, I'm fifty six now. When I was young,
I could take all of that. But no, I think
if this team can play a clean game, no penalties,
(55:23):
offense goes out and handle this business. Defense just play
as well as they played this year. You have to
be spectacular and special teams take care of your business.
Because they've done a great job throughout the year for
the most part, this team can go out and beat
teams by twenty twenty one points because listen, even with
the turnovers, even with the penalties they have overcome, they
still put the points on the board. And I know
(55:45):
people have talked about what Cliff does and Terry on
this side that.
Speaker 4 (55:49):
This team put points up.
Speaker 10 (55:51):
They have the closest thirty points a game, you know,
and you can't you normally don't do that when you
have penalties and games and things like that. They still
can overcome a lot. So give us a clean game.
And here I'm ad the toast real.
Speaker 4 (56:04):
Quick before Blue chime in again.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
But Vessels, you talk about winning in the playoffs, defense,
especially on the roll, bring your defense, you also got
to bring you run game.
Speaker 4 (56:19):
Yes, yes, our run game has outside of Jayden.
Speaker 1 (56:23):
Over the last seven six seven weeks, six seven games,
hasn't got going. What is it going to take for
us to get this running game going from the running backs?
Speaker 10 (56:34):
Well, I think first of all, I'm going to have
to take beyond being in the middle, and then I
think the running backs, this is a game where you're
going to have to put people in their best position
the way we run now early on the season, b
Roberts was very successful with the stuff, but that slow
play thing without beyond just being in the middle, they're
getting a lot of penutration on the defense.
Speaker 4 (56:55):
So we got to make sure we stop people at
the point first.
Speaker 10 (56:58):
And if we can get that done once b rob
gets ahead of steam, he's problem. But he hasn't been
able to get that. None of the running backs neces
year has gotten that. But I think what we're looking
at now with this running game this is winna go home.
Speaker 5 (57:11):
Right.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
So if Jayden got to get two under yard Russian,
get to on your Russian.
Speaker 10 (57:15):
But you want to make sure the running backs come
out on the officer line, handle their business and give
them a chance take the pressure off of him, because imagine.
Speaker 4 (57:23):
If the running game is working and he still could
do the things he's been doing.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
His problem, that's the problem.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
I think we could add to that too, is that,
if you think about it, man, we've been missing Austin
Ekler for the last four week. Yeah, and to see
him back last week only giving me that that breath
of freshetter. Just disbelieve that at times when it was
hard for us to run with be robbed, Elkler was
doing that, carried the low.
Speaker 5 (57:45):
He used the one that found ways, whether.
Speaker 3 (57:47):
It was breaking tackles and you know, doing things. So
I'm excited about having him back in the game playing
just on that. Man, Now you have that one to
punch again. And I talked, I listened to him, talked
to other day. I think he was on Granted Danny Show,
and he spoke like, man, I'm ready, I'm ready now,
I'm refreshed.
Speaker 5 (58:03):
Whatever you want, he.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Said, I you want to put them back there, Kate returns,
so be it. But he's feeling like hisself agatting to
go out there and carry the low.
Speaker 10 (58:10):
Everything would be back how it was b Rocky player's
role instead of trying to play both roles, and I
think that makes it more efficient and make it more effective.
And then Austin comes in and you don't know if
he's gonna catch you to run it, that still gives
you a game player reason to do well. And then
McNicholas was coming in after them and he was able
to do do somethings. So getting everything back to normal
(58:31):
is going to help. And I think they're as health
as they going to be and have the many people
on the field, including a lot of more at this time,
which give them a better chance.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
And our secondary's been playing great.
Speaker 5 (58:41):
We didn't we didn't close out the game.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
We wanted to against Mike Evans and those guys first time,
but we talked about it early on the show that
the boys and the back end have to play because
Baker's balling right now.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
But bro Love appreciate, appreciate your players.
Speaker 5 (58:55):

Speaker 5 (01:00:40):
Man for show. Appreciate you all having me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Man, all right, man, person, this is your third year
in the league. Man, this season has been crazy, a
lot of change for you. What has this season been like? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
Uh? It being you know great.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
You know, it's a good learning season and it's good
to experience winning, you know, for the first time, first
time making it to the playoffs, so you know that's big.
Speaker 5 (01:01:02):
So yeah, it's just been a great season for real.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
How has the transition been, you know, being that you're
a defensive back guy U and now you have a
head coach that's a defensive minded coach also along with
Joe Whitt and how he's got he schemed up things.
Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
What has that transition been like for you?
Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
Just knowing where you come from a couple of years
ago in that in this defense to now.
Speaker 12 (01:01:25):
I feel like for me it been it been great
because like I feel like the coaches they have me
like in a lot of different spots this year and
it's good to like see see like like defense from
different perspectives, like coming.
Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
Down in the box, being.
Speaker 12 (01:01:39):
High and then like just rotating down from high, just
seeing different looks. Basically like using your gifts because you
can you can run with the best of them, right right, right,
right right, Yeah, you like using me in all types
of ways just to you know, put me on the
field to be the way I can make plays on
that And.
Speaker 10 (01:01:56):
Coach Dan's on my radio show and I was like,
what makes Perston special. He's a missed to do, can
run with anybody, He could do anything on the defense.
And now you have a coach who doesn't doesn't mind
allowing you to do multiple things. How easy has it
been for you to be able to just take that
on instead of having to be play one thing, sit
on the sideline.
Speaker 5 (01:02:13):
Uh, it been.
Speaker 12 (01:02:14):
It's been way a lot easier because it's like, you
always want to be on the field, so it's like
for a coach to be, you know, finding ways to
have you on the field. I feel like that's good
and it just you know, make make you just want
to make plays more and just make you feel better.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
Yeah, let's get down to the nitty gritty, man.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
You would be missed with to the same college raige,
your cages from the same area, same same fac with Greendale,
grew up in.
Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
The same area.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Yeah, personally, what's what's what's it like in that part
of the weasy? I want to know what's what's that?
Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
What's it like?
Speaker 11 (01:02:48):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:02:49):
In that play?
Speaker 12 (01:02:50):
It's small small town, a lot of small town things
going on, and I feel like it's the same thing
going on everywhere else, you know, but it just like
at a all the scale for real, and like growing
up there, I feel like if you're playing ball, like
everybody gonna love you. Everybody gonna root for you, like
plagued me love a football team. So so so be
mich You grew up on a farm, right you say
(01:03:11):
that basically?
Speaker 5 (01:03:11):
Yeah, so how was your you know, childhood. Did you
grow up on a farm as well?
Speaker 12 (01:03:15):
I didn't grow up on the farm because like my mama,
she more of a like she she really didn't like
me around all the animal shit. But like my cousins
and them, they we call it like the point. So
I used to always just go down there, you know,
get on the harshes and stuff, be around all the
cows and stuff. So it's like she ain't liked me
around it. Well, my mama she don't like all of them.
She's scared of snakes and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:03:35):
She used to be one of them. So it was
like I was just you know, venturing off and doing
it on my own.
Speaker 10 (01:03:40):
I think like Friday nights, our town shut down. You
got the Green Devils playing, people go be there. They
want to make sure they see it because you know,
if you are on a football team, you calball.
Speaker 5 (01:03:51):
You're playing.
Speaker 10 (01:03:52):
And I can remember Yo with all these cars and said,
man personally going to USL you.
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
Know, went to my college and you watching me. He
was able to ball.
Speaker 10 (01:04:03):
And right now you look in the NFL, you got Percy,
you got got y'all, you got uh, what's a big
man in uh? In the Rams you're talking about big?
You got my man receiver up in Green Bay, DT.
That same little area right there, got four five peck
(01:04:23):
in the league.
Speaker 5 (01:04:23):
Brow He grew up around a street from each other.
That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
There's some people out there, bro. Let me see that.
Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
So so personally, you had a You've had an opportunity
to witness Jaden this year for his entire rookie season.
What's it like being on the sideline watching him do
some of the things that he's he's done and then
it's doing on that football field.
Speaker 12 (01:04:46):
I mean, like the stuff you see Jayden do it
just like it just be like unreal to the eye.
You know, like you just see him like boom, you
will see like the package just collapsing. He'll just break
out and just break it for like fifty yards.
Speaker 5 (01:04:58):
And you like, damn, it's amazing. Like you're just like, oh,
I'm glad he ow my team. Yeah, yeah, what is
the meeting? Like just knowing like as a defense because
you know how it is.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
Man, when you come off the field, it's almost like, okay,
the offense on the field and you kind of want
to kind of get relaxed a little bit, go over
your game plan. Are y'all coaches telling y'all, man, you
never know what's gonna happen with this ball. You know
these guys can score fast. Are y'all kind of on
cue knowing that man, anything can happen with our offense,
or it's just you know, work as normal. Coach Simmons,
he's down there with us, and he always preaching be
(01:05:29):
ready for the next play, like no matter what. He
just like always preaching like trying to have us ready
and keeping us focusing into the game. Like if we're
sitting down for a long time, he'll tell us come
over there, stand up, go watch the game. Go watch
the game, you know, just making sure we don't get
you know, lost, or like just feel like like on
the sideline too long and then just start thinking about
other things.
Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
Keep the flowing.
Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
Yeah, we talk a lot about Jaden as well.
Speaker 10 (01:05:52):
But you all have a young guy in your room,
Micky Sandrin still who's coming here, and that dude seems
to be years ahead of his of his age.
Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
You say it like that, what's so special about him?
Speaker 7 (01:06:03):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (01:06:03):
You could tell like when Mikey first came in, you
could tell like he he knew like so much about
the game. And I feel like Mikey knowledge it like
it helps him so much because like he Mikey even
be helping like vets in the room, you know what
I'm saying, Like Mikey here, he watched a lot of film.
He real like into football, and he loved football. And
you could tell like from like the first day I
(01:06:24):
met Michael, you could tell like Mikey is a football guy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
Dan Quinn and a lot of guys have that we've
had on the show pretty much that all the guys
have talked about this brotherhood.
Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
His brotherhood DQ has set that culture. Really that's that's
part of the mantra. Mantra What does that brotherhood mean
to you? And what's it like?
Speaker 5 (01:06:45):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (01:06:45):
For me, it's just you know, like all my brothers,
Like like I was saying, like I ain't have a
team like this close since college, and like we was
winning in college, like uh, we probably had the best
UL team in history. And I feel like all of
us was so close, like all us like right after practice,
we all together and we just hang together.
Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
Like my girl she used to be mad at me.
Speaker 12 (01:07:07):
She's like you always you don't want to spend no
time with me, And I feel like it's the same
right now. So I feel like being so close knit
it just help us, you know, want to play for
our brothers.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
Yeah, well cool man, I love it, man, And we
can feel it. We all played here. We feel it too, brother, Yeah,
we see it.
Speaker 10 (01:07:23):
Y'all feel that from us because yeah, after that game,
you see, I'm hyped out still play because what I'm
seeing y'all do, bro, it makes me feel so good.
And I know our Rebo said, he says, it's so
good to see that the legends that sitting there supporting
you and having y'all back, and we have y'all back
because y'all pull us to make sure you have back
(01:07:44):
that y'all playing so well, man, we appreciate what y'all
done this year.
Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
Definitely, Yeah, we appreciate you'all support man, Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Personally with all the guests that come on the show, man,
we asked them to sign this football for us to
if you wouldn't mind putting your autograph on that, bless
us with it. Yeah, playoff edition, man, We can't wait
to see y'all this Sunday night against the Tapa Bay Bucket.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
