Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome into lounge presented by DraftKings. I'm Ryan Mink here
with Garrett Downing, and we are going to analyze the
full Ravens twenty twenty five draft class. Ravens already have
a bunch of a's in the back pocket, and I
expect they're going to be getting more for this entire class.
There's a lot to be excited about from Eric Kassis
eleven picks. He mad had eleven picks going in and

(00:25):
he made all eleven selections.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, it was an exciting weekend for sure, and I
think this team got better in a lot of ways.
And so let's just to set the table here before
we dive into it. We're going to run through those
eleven picks to give you a framework of who the
Ravens took this year. Just as a reminder. They kick
things off Thursday night. In the first round, number twenty seven,
it took safety Malachi Starks out of Georgia. They follow
that up on Night two in the second round with

(00:47):
outside linebacker Mike Green from Marshall. In the third round,
they took offensive tackle Emery Jones from LSU. On the
third day in the fourth round, here pick one twenty nine,
they took linebacker Teddy Buchanan out of cow They follow
it up at the fifth round, picked number one, forty
one and took offensive tackle Carson Vincent out of Alabama
and m Then in the sixth round, busy sixth round,

(01:10):
very busy sixth round for Eric Tacosta took cornerback Belalcone
out of Western Michigan, then kicker Tyler Loop from Arizona,
wide receiver Lea Johnte Western from Colorado, defensive lineman and
Ands Peebles from Virginia Tech, cornerback Robert Longerbeam out of Rutgers,
and then finally took offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger out of LSU.

(01:33):
Great name, great name. There to close it out, I'm
at Garrett, but yeah, but he.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Goes by Deli because Garrett gets like that.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
So so anyway, you know, all eleven picks and busy,
busy weekend, and so what was your big picture view
of this draft class?

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Well, the Ravens certainly were aggressive in addressing their secondary
and their offensive line. You know, certainly went after those
two position positions. Hard Malachi starts being the first pick
obviously at safety, and then a couple of cornerbacks here
on Day three. And then offensive line. You know, you
draft three offensive linemen, two tackles, you know, one kind

(02:13):
of hybrid guy, and then a guard with their final pick.
So interesting to see where they allotted their resources. Secondary.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
No line, Yeah, I think it was really like it
was a defensive draft. Six of the six of the
eleven picks on the defense.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
It's not that crazy though, I mean I think that
but one of them.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
We were saying, what like seven, but really two of
them are are a special teams picks on the so
because you take a kicker and Tyler loop right and
Lejontay western Is can factor in as well at on
a receiver on the offensive side, but primarily he's going
to be a pump returner. So you're basically taking six
defensive players, two special teamers and then and then three

(02:54):
offensive linemen. And so you did beef up the offensive lineman,
especially with some developmental prospect there who you can come
in and see if they can compete and make the
team and then develop.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
But yeah, defense, no running back, no tight end, and
no quarterback. And the wide receiver that you took is
mostly a punter. Third right exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
And look, that's not a big surprise in sitting the
Ravens had the best offense in the NFL last year,
one of the best offenses the NFL has ever seen,
and you basically bring back the majority of that group intact.
So it's not like they needed big investments on the
offense side of the ball. But I think this defense
definitely got better in a big way.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah. Absolutely, I'm really excited about that. And I think
part of it is playmakers is what stands out to me.
Malky Starks, a guy with elite ball skills, you know,
I mean, he had six career interceptions, but you watch
this guy and these interceptions, elite ball skills can take
the ball away. Mike Green, the pass rusher, I mean,
this is a high sack performing guy, producing guy led

(03:54):
the led FBS with seventeen sacks last year. And so
you know, a guy who can make big plays in
big moments, certainly. And then even the corners Eric Tacosta
and the wrap up presser said their ball production, interception
production that was really alluring to them and making this selections.
So I saw an intentional approach of saying, we need

(04:18):
we need playmakers who can kind of get those takeaways defensively.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I'm with you, and it's takeaways, it's impact plays.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
And even Anias Peoples, right, yeah, like the defensive lineman.
I thought one of the surprises of the draft was
that the Ravens didn't draft a defensive lineman earlier in
this draft, and the type of defensive lineman was a
little bit different from what I think a lot of
people were predicting because Michael Pierce retired and Brent Urban
still a free agent, and they went with Anias Peebles,
who is more of an undersized, gap shooting, penetrating, pass

(04:50):
rushing defensive lineman. That's how they envision it. But again
to what I was just saying, you want playmakers, impact plays.
That's kind of what Anas Peoples is, right, a rusher
to put brush on the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
He's kind of in the mold of what Nadi Metabike
was especially early in his career. Now he's developed into
a three down player and is really impactful, but a
little bit undersize for the position, but great pass rushing ability.
And obviously he's been at that pick has worked out
quite well, and so similar mole would I think, especially
when you look at like a rookie year Matabik. So

(05:23):
let's just go through it picked by pick and share
some of our takeaways. We did the full breakdown of
Malchi starts Thursday night, but I'll tell you what. He
came in here on Friday, and I could not have
been any more impressed with what I saw from him.
Just the way he conducted himself in the building, just
to kind of let listeners in is how he operates.
I mean, he was somebody that was really gracious with

(05:43):
his time, really respectful, came in here with his family,
was clearly excited to be here, felt like it was
a place that he could call home, and it felt
that kind of embrace. And even as he was making
his way around the building and looking at some of
the pictures of the legends, the Ray Lewis and Edward
and Trail Suggs type players who have been here, you
can tell like being on that defense of great players

(06:07):
who have come before him meant something to him. Like
he was kind of I don't want to say in awe,
but he was respectful of the great defensive players, and
you could see that when he made his way around
this building. I was just so And then I sat
down with him for an interview and his film IQ
was off the charts.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Still cool. If viewers or listeners haven't watched that video
of your one on one interview with Malic, I starts
to go back and do that, because it was pretty
cool seeing you gave him. Now, those are some of
the best plays of his college career. But to listen
to the way he talked about that and his responsibility
in that play and how that mirrored the corner's responsibility
or you know, played off the corner other corner, and

(06:47):
it was just really you see, like, Wow, this guy
is a different level talking about the game.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
It was like a masterclass level of education on what
a safety sees. And he wasn't just saying like, oh,
I saw this guy fading over in my direction, so
I thought the ball was going in him. No, he's
talking about what every player is doing. They run this
out of this package traditionally, like it was. It was
really really impressive, and I think that I mean, I
said to him in that conversation, I can see how

(07:13):
you aced the interview at the combine and how all
the coaches walked out of there saying like this is
a guy who we want on our defense. So and
then even after we finished, he just kept rolling through
the plays and was and he kind of he just
kept talking about him for a few more minutes, like
he when he looks at film, like he he is
going to be a guy that lives in that iPad.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
You think Malco Starts took the playbook home?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I mean he he probably already has a memorized
on the flight back home. I mean it would not
surprise me.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
The more I thought about that pick in the days following,
the more I thought that, I don't know that there's
been a prospect that the Ravens have drafted in recent
years that seemed more like a Raven, you know, like
and I think that was the reason that so many pundits,
including myself, just to my own Hornet's again, took him

(08:01):
in our mock draft is because he's the perfect fit. Yeah,
it's just it's just he's just a perfect Raven. Yeah.
I the guy didn't grow up a Steelers fan and
loving Troy would have been that would have been ideal. Yeah,
there's one blemish on that resume. But yeah, I mean
that pick to me in all aspects, from every angle.

(08:22):
I think is going to turn out to be a
home run pick. I honestly think he's going to be
a pro bowler. I think he's going to be here
a long time. I think he's going to have a
great career.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah, I'm really fired up about that. So moving on
to the second round, the Raves took Mike Green out
of Marshall and this is, as you mentioned, had seventeen
sacks last year, super productive player. Nobody expected him to
be there at the end of the second round. Some
of the off the field allegations is what led to
him falling and Eric Taicassa was asked about that after
the draft and he said that the Ravens did kind

(08:52):
of an exhaustive, you know, investigation into the process there,
had him in for a visit with him, and they
felt comfortable taking him. And Eric said that they met
for ninety minutes one on one in his office and
they had a chance to talk and so they ultimately
felt comfortable taking him. And the Ravens get a player
who has, you know, has been a major impactful player

(09:16):
at Marshall and if he can get after the quarterback
the way he can hear, then he's going to be
a difference maker for this defense.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
This guy was right up there with that dual Carter
in terms of talented pass rushers in this US. I mean, yeah,
he is extremely talented at rushing the passer yep. And
he is going to make a difference on this defense.
I think you're going to notice it. It almost to
me feels like Peter Bulwer year one. You know, like

(09:42):
you can come in and just say go get that
quarterback right, you know, like that's the position he can
be put in this year. And I think I think
he's going to make a big difference immediately from a
talent perspective. You know, if if all the off the
fields questions were were not a thing, I would have
been like, yes, take this guy in the first round,

(10:03):
the Ravens first round pick. And I still still thought
he was going to go. I thought somebody was going
to take him the first because he's that talented. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Well he if you look at a lot of the
draft rankings coming into us, he was he was top
fifteen on just about every board, and depending on who
you ask, he's right there, top twelve, top eight, depending
on whose board you look at. But that's the level
of player that he is, and so the Ravens are
getting great value there and they're really great player. Yeah,

(10:32):
all right, Moving on to the third round pick, number
ninety one, offensive tackle Emery Jones out of LSU, And
here the Ravens get the way that John Harbaugh described
it as kind of their swing tackle Pat McCarey left
in free agency.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Sir Pat McCay replacement essentially, And now you know, he's
a rookie, so y're not going to sit there and
sit here and say he's as good as Pat McCay immediately.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
And especially Pat mcarey before McCarey stepped into the starting
left guard jah where she was last year.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Right, yeah, exactly. I mean Pat McCarey also was undrafted.
Yeah right, So Emory Jones is like a kind of
more athletic, bigger size, like the kind of what you
would draw off, right, But they envisioned him as immediately, yeah,
being in the swing tackle, which is a really important position,
the number three offensive tackle in most years. The Ravens

(11:20):
had excellent health last year, but most years that player
sees time, and so I think that he can certainly
be that. You know, he was a full time starter
at LSU. At right tackle, played exclusively there, but you know,
can you also play left tackle and be the backup there?
And then most a lot of draft analysts thought that
he would probably best serve kicking into guards. So we

(11:42):
talked about how the Ravens would like to get Andrew
Vorhees some strong competition for that starting left guard job.
I think Emery Jones can provide that.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yeah, I think, Well, the Ravens just said, let's just
take the LSU offensive line. They took Emory Jones here
at the third and they followed up in the seventh
with with Garrett Dellinger, who who's a guard, primarily left guard,
but also has played a little bit of tackle and center.
So he's but he's he's most likely a guard. UH,
will compete for a left guard spot on the roster
and maybe a starting job. But so so they just

(12:13):
went with the LSU the Tigers offensive line. They like
what they're doing down there, a venton rouge with that
offensive line. So on Day three, the fourth round, the
Ravens took an off ball linebacker, Teddy Buchanan. And we
debated this coming into the draft, like, will the Ravens
use a draft pick on a linebacker because they have
a course ro Kwan Smith, they have Trenton Simpson. Now
they've lost Malie Harrison and and Chris Board in free agency.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
So if you can's gonna come sign j Cumble.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
They did sign Jay Kumble, who gives you a lot
of special seams but also is going to compete for
snaps on defense, So you can and comes in here
and he'll have a chance to compete for a role
on defense in addition to being in the edition, in
addition to being a really important special teamer.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, I think right now you pencil him in. It
is really kind of your three to four inside linebacker,
probably number three.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, and he'll compete with Trenton Simpson.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
And he'll compete with Trenton Simpson and yeah that he'll
he'll push him. I mean that's an early kind of
fourth round pick there. And so I think that this
is a player that the Ravens just seemed to love
the film. The way he plays the game. You know,
I think that plays with his hair on fire, comes
downs Hill just plays plays like a Raven. And Eric

(13:24):
Kassa also mentioned really strong in coverage. You know, I
think that they really liked his ability going backwards as well.
So an exciting pick and not surprising to me that
they took an inside linebacker with their first pick on
Day three. You know, I thought they could take one
even earlier than that. You know we were talking about,
is there any way they could have taken Jahad Campbell,

(13:45):
And they.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Probably considered it. I mean, Malky Sarks fit in so
many different ways as we sawt out, but.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Campbell went a few picks later to the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah, but if they had taking Campbell it would have
been a really good pick too. I mean, I think
that both those players are going to be really good
in the pros.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
And but to be.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Honest, I think that's kind of like the classic case
of both teams getting to steal at the end of
the first there. But to your point, yes, like they
could have. They probably considered it to some degree, just
because Campbell is that good of a player. And so
then they do follow it up and get Bigannon in.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
The fourth Yeah. I like that pick all right.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Then then in the fifth round they take Carson Vincent
And this is my opportunity to shine here. I first
of all, I really I like the player and I
liked the person here a lot. But if you remember,
this is my mock draft pick, and I spelled it
out to you. I said, this is a developmental prospect
six seven, three point fifteen. He's somebody in the Daniel

(14:37):
Alele Mold who is a little bit raw. He played
left tackle at an HBCU school and so he's coming
in here as a developmental guy and it may take
some time for him to develop and ultimately step into
the lineup, but he has the ability and man does
he have the personality and the attitude that I just love.
So this is this is my chance. Body can hit

(15:00):
a first round pick. Oh, anybody can hit a first
round pick. That's easy, that's light work. But if you're
getting Day three picks out of Alabama A and M
and your mock, that's how you know you're a true expert.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
I'll give it to you, you know. And I kind
of dogged that pick in your Yeah, you didn't get
because the player. I just was like, it just didn't
make the It didn't make sense to me because the
Ravens really needed more of a guard and this guy
is really a tackle. He's tackle tackle they don't talk about.
He could kick inside of the guard. Yeah, tackle and so.

(15:32):
But two things. So I didn't want to like the
pick because it was your mock draft pick. And you're right,
and I hate when you're right. I love when you're wrong.
But then we talked to the kid on zoom and
just a great kid, like just super likable. You could
just he was just beaming with joy and just like

(15:54):
a great personality. I love that he stuck it out
at Alabama A and M. You know, he wanted to
go or it's like anybody else wanted to go to
a big school, but he was really lightly recruited. And
then he went the Juco route then Alabama A and
M and and and he stuck it out there, you know.
And and even when those big schools came calling later
and wanted him to enter the portal and come, he's like, nah,

(16:15):
you know you didn't want me, then you're not gonna
get me now. Yeah, And uh. I just really loved
his personality. So and and I love the fit because
to me, he's the perfect second offensive lineman for the
Ravens to draft. Like it if he had been their
first guy that they drafted, I'd have been like, well,
you know, we needed like that guard competitor right now, right,

(16:39):
But you really don't need Carson Vincent right now as
a rookie because Emery Jones is your swing tackle. Like, yeah,
he can really just continue to develop. Maybe he develops
into and I think he will, like it seems like
he's a really good player. Yeah, and you get George
Warhop working with him. He's got all the tools. That's
the exciting thing about Carson Vincent. It's like he as

(17:00):
all the tools to be a really good left tackle.
You owned up that technique, he could be good.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
I mean, this guy's been a starter throughout his college careers.
Like he's played a ton of football. So it's when
I say raw, it's more speaking to he was at
an HBCUU. It's like he was playing in the SEC
every single week, but played a ton of football. It's
it's a little bit different. I use the a let
comparison more in the sense of size. Just a big guy,
but like he's played a ton of football. And so

(17:26):
I just think DaCosta said in his press conference when
he came in here for a visit, and the fact
that he came in here for a visit, I thought,
like says something about the rayvends interest because he is
a guy that's a Day three pick. But he said
when he came in here for a visit, uh, he
like almost broke to Costa's hand when he shook it.
I mean, he's that kind of enthusiasm and he's probably

(17:46):
got you know, big hands, of course, But I liked him.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
I liked him a wrong, strong, strong, strongsive line.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Yeah, I mean he's he's, uh, you.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Don't want like the dead fish hand and the dead fish.
Yeah you don't want that. No, you do not want that.
So yeah, you think it's a really good pick. And yeah,
he can develop maybe someday, you know, best case scenario,
takes over as a starter down line it left tackle
potentially someday or whatever. But and and really I hope
you you hope you develop them to be that swing tackle.

(18:18):
You know, maybe Emery Jones Junior becomes your left guard,
you know, and then he's your swing tackle. So I
just think of high upside, high character, high athletic trades.
It's a good pick, yeah, totally.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
So moving on here. In the sixth round, the Ravens
took cornerback Belcone out of Western Michigan. Another guy that
when you hear him and you talk to him like
it's easy to cheer on historic Community College route. Lived
spent some of his childhood on the Ivory Coast, moves
in the United States. How do you learn English? Kind
of a difficult uh. Upbringing uh for him, goes through

(18:52):
the JUCO route, ultimately gets to Western Michigan.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
I mean being upbringing his younger brother. Yeah yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
In real life, his real life challenges.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
He's getting ready to go into high school. Yeah, tragic.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah, So he's had some really hard things that he's
had to overcome, and he talked about that in his
time with the media. Was not a highly recruited guy
at all, zero star type recruit and go again Juco
route ends up at Western Michigan. But from a football standpoint,
I mean he's six' one one, ninety has ball, skills
and he's a developmental. Cornerback, yeah ran well, Fast so

(19:26):
he's a developmental cornerback to add to this, group and
like The ravens, said just to kind of put those
two corners. Together they followed it up later in the sixth,
round pick two twelve with With Robert Longer beam out Of.
Rutgers he's a little bit smaller five to, eleven one
to seventy, five blazing fast ran a four to, three
so he's he's got top end. Speed but both those

(19:47):
guys were players That Da costa felt like that he
was hoping to get one of those On day three
Three ravens to end up with both of.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Them, yeah, Yeah so this is the case of you
can never have too many. Corners The ravens restocked that
that in back room with, youth AND i think two
players that are going to be fight sty guys out,
there good on special, teams both athletic. GUYS i, mean
you were on a four to, three you can get down.
That i'm looking at a gunner right, there you. Know

(20:14):
and so The ravens needed more depth at. Cornerback certainly
they had they know who their starters are With Marlon
Nate wiggins And cheetah Bay, ouzie but they needed more
death behind that because really they Had Jellen Arma, davis
who you, know is going into year four and has
had injured been plagued by injuries throughout his. Career and THEN. Tj,

(20:36):
tampa who is a young player they drafted the fourth
round last, year who they really, like unfortunately missed a
lot of time due to, injuries but behind those two,
guys they really needed some more. Depth so now they
have an embarrassment of riches in terms of cornerback depth
on this.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Team, yeah and, look The, ravens it's gonna be tough
for eleven draft picks to make the, team and so
those guys are going to be competing for spots. There
but The ravens clearly like both of them to go
to double up there in the in the sixth round
at that, POSITION i think speaks to the way the
board fell and also just the way The ravens really
liked both those. Guys if you like them both are both,
there take them.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Both.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Yep then The ravens took a, Kicker Tyler loop out Of,
arizona and kicking Coach Randy brown has basically been looking
at kickers throughout the, offseason looking at all of, them
and he came back and Told Eric casa And John
harball That Tyler loop was the guy that he wanted
and he got.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yep, Yeah they said that that was their prize, kicker
and the kicker out Of Miami, yeah went just a
few picks earlier to The patriots And, patriots and so
the kicker run kind of, started and they, said all,
right time to grab our guy before he's. Gone and
you never, know you, know some other teams behind The
ravens could have certainly scooped Up tyler loop and The

(21:48):
ravens got their. Guy and obviously the big question mark
here is is he competing With Justin tucker or is
he Replacing Justin. Tucker that remains to be. Seen THE
nfl is conducting its investigation into the off the field
allegations With Justin, tucker and The ravens had no update
in the press conference after the draft about the timeframe

(22:09):
of that. Investigation it's there in wait and see. Mode
So tyler is a very good. Player they obviously were
evaluating kickers given the, situation as of course you would
expect them, to and they said best player at a
position of, need we're going to take.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Them, yeah AND i mean They John harball also had
really good things to say about his. Ability and again
they kind of Trust randy and his the way that
he sees the kicking. Game And harball describes him as
as kind of a kicking. Nerd and you got that
sense when we talk to him like he talked about
like he talked about comparing it to golf and how

(22:46):
golfers have swing coaches and the technique and the kind
of being a technician with his, Swing like he seems
like somebody that's watching like the intricacies of, kicking swings and.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
MOTIONS i asked him what his style, is because he's,
that you, know everybody brings their own style to. THIS i,
said what's your? Style and you just start nerding out of. It,
yeah so my style is studying kicking and all the
intricacies and all the. Techniques and he so he And
randy and that whole group are going to get along real. Well,
YEAH i don't. KNOW i mean they dial into the
most minute little, details AND i think That Tyle loop's

(23:17):
gonna be about.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
That, yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
TOTALLY i thought he had a, good good PERSON i.
TOO i like talk to. Him he seemed like a good, kid. Energetic,
yeah big leg you, KNOW i, mean made a sixty
two yard field goal this past, Year so you bring
in a big leg, kicker you. Know one of the
questions to him, is, obviously when you're coming out Of,
arizona you, know you haven't kicked in much as in
THESE Afc north. Conditions, now he said he went up

(23:40):
To washington and The Pacific northwest and kicked in some
tough situations. There but you, know that'll be a little
bit of an. Adjustment kicking THE Afc north is, difficult
and with any young, kicker it's it's tough to break,
in you. KNOW i mean it's high pressure and all that,
stuff especially When Justin tucker is The ravens, kicker you.
Know and so BUT i think that he seems to

(24:01):
have the makeup to do the job.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Totally so then the next pick That ravens sick with
special teams and, offense they take Le John Say western
out Of colorado five to nine one. Ninety he was
only At colorado for one, year was At Florida atlantic
prior to that super productive player from a receiving standpoint in,
college one of the thirty six hundred receiving yards thirty
one touchdowns in his college, career the.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Six most receptions of any player IN fbs.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
History, YES i, mean it's got like huge numbers and so,
uh and he's also been a really good punt returner as.
Well and So DaCosta said at the wrap up press
conference that he just felt like this was a position
That ravens needed to invest. In wasn't happy with how
it played out last year and they needed to get better,
there and they Like western's ability. There he did a

(24:49):
really good job of it at college and like two,
touchdowns two, touchdowns had a big one of them was
like a seventy eight yard. Return so he has his
shifty he's like really got the poone booth.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Quick, Yeah like he's, fast but more than, that it's
it's that, shiftiness that quickness that make a guy miss
juke kind of. Stuff you, know it's it's quicker than. Fast,
Yeah AND i think he's gonna be a fun player to,
Watch Like i'm. Excited i'm just telling you right, Now
ravens fans are going to be about that, pick like
training camp all that. Stuff we're gonna have the highlights

(25:22):
AND i think that there's gonna be some fun jukes
on on that tape and and big.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Plays he had a huge play At, colorado had a
Hell mary reception late in a game there that was
a big game for them and kind of put him
In Colorado buffalo's. Lore there a huge reception late in
the game from From shad Or sanders and so he's
come up with some big moments in his. Career so
that's that's an exciting.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
PICK i think THAT i should get half a point
for that. PICK i, think, yes, yes all. RIGHT I
i was on the, scent, okay BECAUSE i Had Jimmy Horn, junior,
so Uh colorado wide receiver slash. Returner SO i had
guy right, team right. Position that's that's actually you lose

(26:04):
half a.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Point like you're in this half, period you're looking at
the school, close you're looking at the, school you're looking
at the. Player you lock in on a guy and it's, like,
no we're not going with that, Guy we're going with
this guy on the other side of the.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Way.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
OFF i actually were both were looking for return, potential
AND i Took Tedes johnson actually out Of, oregon who
kind of a. Set he was an undersize quicker in
a phone. Move but similar types of. Players but the
fact that it's the same school and you just pick
the wrong. Guy, man that's. Bad the same, position same.
School it's like half a, point no half, Deduction you are,

(26:37):
Correct i'm now taking the.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Lead.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Uh, so then in the sixth, round the defensive LINEMAN
a and his. Peeples, uh we touched on him a little.
Bit but this is a guy that's like he's two eighty,
nine so six foot two eighty, nine.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Definitely later than you're used to seeing from a defensive.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Tackle it is, now again using The mattabek, comparison he
last year was like two seventy and and so he's
more in that mold he went he was. Eleven he
was really light last year and AND i don't know
that he's gonna like Get peoples is going to be that.
Light but he he's going to be a sub, rush third,
down get after the passer type guy for as an

(27:14):
as an interior defensive.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Lineman he comes from a football. FAMILY i, mean his
grandfather was a three Time pro bowler who played for
a really long, time long career in THE. Nfl his
dad was An All american in college At Appalachian. State
his mother was a softball player who ended up playing professional.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Softball so very Ethnic peo pull up to softball. Highlights oh, yeah,
YEAH i watched. It got to bring it right down
all the tape on.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
This. Yeah very, athletic very athletic, family football. Family and
the THING i like about him is you watch the
highlights and like one of the first ones you see
is him putting a spin move on. Somebody just coming
off the line with a spin move as a defensive
tackle is. Wild, yeah and getting a sack and it
just pouncing on the. Guy it was like a lion

(28:02):
jumping on a gazelle's. Back it was. Awesome, Yeah and
so that gets your attention To Eric cossa said that
was really A John harball. Pick that was one Of harves's,
guys and so an intriguing. PLAYER i, MEAN i think.
Again Zach orr joined us here on the. Lounge friend
at the lounge and go back and listen to that,
episode and he talked about pass rush comes from everywhere

(28:23):
and The ravens got that edge rusher And Mike green
add another guy in the defense on the defensive, line
and all of a, Sudden, hey it's third and, whatever, nine,
Ten and, look this is a six round. Pick So
i'm not going to sit here and project him for
like a big defensive role as a, rookie like this
would maybe be something you were gross into or maybe.
Not maybe he does this as a, rookie but like

(28:44):
third and, eight third and, ten put him in. There
next To, amountabka AND i know who they're gonna double
go ahead and let Anias peebles trying to beat some
double teams or go one on. ONE i, mean and
see what kind of spin movies he puts out. THERE
i think it's an intriguing. Pick.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Yeah so then they followed up two picks. Later it
Was Robert Longer beam out Of. Rutgers we touched on
him the, cornerback just to close the conversation on, him
and he had five interceptions over the last three, years
twenty one pass breakups over the last two, Years SO
i like the addition of. Him and then the final
pick Was Garrett, dellingser the offensive lineman out OF lsu

(29:20):
center guard flexibility to Cost to described him as a.
Guard has played a little bit of, center not. Much
he's a, guard but he's a. Guard that's what he's
going to, be and so he'll compete there for a
role on the.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Team one of the most athletic guards in this year's draft,
class like one of the most athletic that have come
out by THE ras scores and all that, stuff like
super high on. That so he's also got a good
like six five three. Twenty he's exactly, Like you've got good,
size you're very, athletic and you're a multi year starter
AT lsu and a really good offensive. Line what AM
i missing with this part of it is he's coming

(29:52):
off an. Injury so he missed the really the second
half of last season due to, Injury so that is
maybe a. Factor and you, KNOW i think he was
playing really good ball leading up to that, injury but
that cut his tape short a little. Bit but he's
a multi, year three starter or whatever you had playing a.
Tape so, yeah an interesting prospect THAT i think it

(30:13):
kind of reminds me a little bit of the var he's. Picked,
obviously not as severe of an injury where he's gonna
miss his whole rookie year or anything like that we,
expect but, like big, school, productive big, guy good, size
like and you got him in the seventh. Round. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Yeah The ravens end up, taking as we just spout out,
here three offensive, linemen and so that's gonna be an
interesting competition for roster.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Spots they needed the guard death they. DID i, mean
certainly you lost McCarry and then you lost your swing.
Tackle Josh.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Awns Josh.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Jones you know Benk cleveland returned on a one year,
deal but you know he's he's competing for a. Job
i'm not gonna sit here and say Bank cleveland's lock
is fifty three man roster spot up right, now you. Know,
So SO i think that The ravens always want to
keep that pipeline well, stocked and they want to Push

(31:08):
Andrew Voor he's particularly a left. Guard and hey even
push Push Foule ale coming off with a good year
as a, starter but push, him get him better. Too
so and you need you, need you want offensive line.
Depth you have a good teacher In George, warhop and
you want position, flexibility Which Emery jones in particular gives them.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
That, yeah so that's the full recap of all. Eleven
we're gonna take a quick. Break when we come, back
we'll share some of our favorite. Picks also take a
look around THE Afc north and discuss what still could
happen for The ravens after this. Draft you're listening to
The lounge. Podcast we are coming to you from The
Sea Gek. Studio we also want to mention our partners
At Draft King. Sportsbook they are an official sports betting
partner of The Baltimore Ravens Draft king, Sportsbook The crown is,

(31:51):
yours all, right so this is time to share our
favorite picks of the. Draft i'll let you have first
DIBs on this one BECAUSE i have a feeling you're
gonna point To Malachi.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Starks that is, Correct. HUH i, mean LIKE i, SAID
i think this guy is the perfect fit. Here he's
going to have a long. Career the, player the, person the,
competitor the, playmaker the, athlete the, versatility the. SMARTS i
could go on and. On it feels like With Malachi,
Starks i'm just. Psyched, Yeah i'll point.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
To the guy THAT i, picked right if you're gonna
take the guy you, pick on to take the GUY i.
Picked And Carson, vincent we covered, him BUT i JUST
i just like The ravens when you go back and
look at, It they've have A they've had a good
track record of developing guys in the middle, rounds especially
ones that fit the size profile that you want from
a trade, Standpoint AND i think That vincent is going
to be another one of those guys that we're talking

(32:44):
about in three. Years like, man The ravens have got
a great steal there in the fifth. ROUND i think
that they're GONNA i think that he's going to be
in that.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Category, well all all the talk going into the draft
was that this is a starter's, draft and SO i
think to a, degree this class will be judged ultimately
on how many starts did you get out of? It
and could he someday be The ravens starting left Tackle
If Ronnie stanley someday down the, line you, know thankfully
they Resign, ronnie but when does Whenever ronnie's career, ends

(33:11):
hopefully retires A raven could he replaced? Him?

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Right you? Know who? Knows who?

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Knows Could Emry jones be a starting guard left guard
for quite some? Time or be the replacement at, tackle you,
know like the, linebacker you, know the inside. Linebacker? Yeah
could could he be a? Starter he could beat Out Trenton?
Simpson who? Knows? Right, LIKE i think that ultimately someday

(33:38):
that's how this draft. Class in addition to the star
power THAT i, think you, know The ravens got too
studs at the top of last's. Draft they Got Nate
wiggins And Roger Rosa garden and as of, now largely
because of. Injuries we don't know about the rest. Yet
we just didn't see a lot of them as rookies this.
Year to stud two stars in my opinion at the

(34:03):
Top Malchi starks and Then Mike green and the. Rest
let's see how many of them can become. Starters that's
kind of HOW i look at.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
This, YEAH i think that's a good way to look at.
It another important, note this is not draft, related but
it was something that was asked about this weekend Was Mark.
Andrews there was a lot of, speculation is he going
to get? Traded all this stuff did not get, traded
And DaCosta said this weekend that the expectation is that
he's going to be on the, team and that's why
it seemed to have been. Leaning And tacosta said that

(34:31):
again WITH i guess even more of a confirmation as
much of a compilation get here.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
TONIGHT yea certainly expect which you know you read between
the lines there like it seemed like maybe that potentially
that could have been in. Play that was kind of
the deadline. Too that was the deadline.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Exactly and So, andrews, hey you know.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
We are on the record is saying how much we
Love Mark andrews as a, competitor as a, player all those.
Things Like Mark andrews is A, raven just like he,
said and so you, Know i'm glad that he's still A.
Raven he makes this team a lot.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Better, YEAH i, MEAN i think that no one obviously
is gonna question What mark has brought to the scene
throughout his career. Franchise, YEAH i think that that's THAT'S
i don't need to read his resume, here BUT i think,
that like, UH i think That marc is going to
come into this. Year he always is, motivated BUT i
really think that this year is going to mean a.
Lot he's going into last year of his. Contract him

(35:24):
And Lamar jackson had been together since their first day
on campus and they've Been they've been clawn at this.
Thing and nobody is more disappointed with the way last
season ended The Mark. Andrews i'm Sure mark Went.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
MAN i would love to See Mark andrews The Lombardi.
Trophy that would be, Awesome.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Yes AND i think that he's going to have a
really good. Year so now the work starts in terms
of what The ravens also need to. Do what's Left
AND i think that one of the things That DaCosta
pointed to and we alluded to it is defensive. Line
they didn't get the big defense. Alignment, uh they didn't
get The Michael pierce.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Replacement, yeah Well Travis jones is a noose. Tach he
is The Michael pierce replace. Him but they wanted to
add an big body basically in this draft and run,
stuffing big body defense tackle and that is not what
they didn't get. That, yeah and they had some guys
that they liked and they got picked and that's just
how it goes. Sometimes.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Yep so they're gonna look at.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
It to, me that's a position that like you can find.
Guys The ravens have a rich history of signing veterans
who have done that job for years and years and,
years and they come in here and they play at
a good, level and, LIKE i think that they will
be able to find that guy again this.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
YEAR i think that your roster's in pretty good. Shape
if like the biggest need that you're mentioning is backup defensive, tackle,
like that's a pretty good spot for your team roster composition.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Wise so there's been a lot there's been other years
where it's like man they needed a pass, rusher and
they didn't get, one yeah or, whatever, right like By.
No the thing that's just surprising about it is that
there was all the talk pre draft about how this
was just a totally loaded defensive tackle class and there
were a ton of guys like, that the big body

(36:59):
just big. Bawlers, yeah they were all over the, place
and The ravens didn't end up grabbing. One you, know
they like the twitchy kind of pass, rusher, which, HEY
i like that. TOO i wanted one of those guys as. Well,
YEAH i thought that THEY i thought it was almost
a sure thing that they would double dip at defense
on the defensive, line and they didn't end up taking
one until their third to last, pick and so THAT

(37:22):
i was a little bit. Surprising BUT i think that
they'll you, know the flip side of that always is
when you don't draft the player that you were expected to,
draft you are the hot team when it comes to
undrafted free. Agents and if this defensive tackle class is
as deep as everyone, says and that goes into the undrafted,

(37:43):
class then, everybody you Know, baltimore When baltimore's calling these
defensive tackles recruiting them and they're going to point to
their class and, say we didn't get a guy like.
You you have a chance to make this fifty three man. Roster,
yeah and that's a pretty strong selling. Point, yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Totally and then just, lastly taking a look around the
league on the one of the teams that got that
defense line you're like you're talking about is The steelers
With Derek carmon with their first round. Pick he fits
that mold of the guy that we're talking. About so
The steelers get they Get Derek, carmon they bulked up
on their defensive, line a defensive front With. Harmon then
they Took Jack, sawyer an outside linebacker out Of Ohio.

(38:19):
State they also followed it up With Will, howard a
higher state. Quarterback well and yah yaha Black, yeah An
iowa player, yeah so and a running, back so they
basically upgrade their defensive. Front Mike tomlin did an interview
ON Nfl network during the draft and, said, basically when
he was in the shower At. Mt Bak sadium after the,
game thinking about after the playoff, loss When Derek henry

(38:41):
ran all over and The ravens really dominated the line of,
scrimmage he was thinking we need to upgrade our defensive,
front and so that's what they set out to, do
and that's what it looks like they did with those.
Picks The browns also made a big investment in their
defensive front With Mason, graham Took Carson, sweessenger a linebacker
in the second, Round Quinn Shaw judkins really good running
back out Of Ohio state in the third.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
More of like a physical thump downhill thumper kind Of Shawn. Juckkins,
YEAH i mean he's he's a hard nose. Run he's
a hard nose running back for, sure and so him he,
is he's that more and like The Marshawn lynch just
run you over type guy, okay And Caleb, johnson The
steelers running back that they took out Of. IOWA i
heard people describing him as a Mini Derrick. Henry, yeah

(39:23):
everybody's All Derek henry did. Here for The, ravens they're,
like get we want that right piece of.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
That and then of course the big story for The
browns is they Took Dylan gabriel quarterback from From oregon
and then followed it up in the fifth round with
Should Or, sanders who sliding to the fifth round was
like the biggest story of the. Draft The browns were talking.
About there was a conversation about whether they would take
him at second, overall they end up getting him in
the fifth. Round and so that's gonna be like The

(39:49):
browns when The ravens play them next, Year they're probably
gonna Have Joe flacco or maybe Should Or sanders starting at. Quarterback,
Uh sanders is gonna be Out Dylan gay who got
picked two rounds. Before and they also Have Kenny pickett
on their team, Too Andy Shaun watson coming back from the. Injury,
still so like the quarterback room they've, got they've got five.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Quarterbacks joe is gonna be the. Starter my guess Is.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Joe flacco is going to be the. Starter but that
The browns and The Shador sanders pick is is one
of the biggest stories of the. Draft and then just
around out the, division The bengals Take Shamar, stewart the
pass rusher From TEXAS a and m really, UH i,
mean he's like off the charts traits, wise didn't have
a ton of college, production but they get.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
Him uh Linebacker DEMETRIUS nr.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Yep and then they end up going with a Guard
Dylan fairshild Linebacker Benett. Carter, SO i mean the big
thing for The bengals is they end up getting this
guy to pair With Trey hendrickson most likely If hendrickson
selling the. Team Uh In Shamar, stewart who has he's
a Boomer bus prospect basically super high from the athletic testing,

(40:53):
standpoint didn't have a ton of. Production how is he
going to? Project but if he turns out, again it's
a Boomer bus potential there for The. Bengals.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Yeah to, me the thing that stands out just big
picture wise about THE Afc north the rest of THE
Afc north picks is they went like these WERE Afc
north football. Picks they all went, big physical, bruisers like
all of. Them like they just were like it was
like their drafts were from twenty years.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Ago they're, like we're tired Of lamar And Derrick henry
and The ravens office run all.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
Over they were they're tired of getting beat up by
the back to back division. Champs that's a. Fact they're
tired of getting beat up by The. Ravens and they,
said we're gonna add some big old, dudes physical guys
and like try to give them a taste of their own.
Medicine it's basically what they. Said their draft classes are
all walking in with neck, rolls you, know yeah and

(41:46):
so and like, okay you, know like The ravens got some. Playmakers,
yeah they kind of not to say The ravens picks aren't,
physical because they, are but like they The ravens kind
of trended in like we need some guys to make
some of those big, plays, takeaways all that. Stuff and
it wasn't as much like we're gonna just take this

(42:06):
big old mall or The ravens got some speed and
all that, stuff and it seemed like their opponents this
year and the draft were, like screw the forty, Times
we're looking at big The, Oh Shamar stewart is kind
of the. Exceptional Shamar stewart is, right he's kind Of,
yes he's definitely the exception of. That, yeah but, yeah
they both they both felt Like Derek harmon's or, Yeah

(42:26):
Derek carmon's a good athlete all the way around, too
but like that is kind of the way that they. Trended, yeah, natality.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
They both particularly on the defensive.

Speaker 1 (42:34):
Front Mason graham And Derek carmon being the big picks
And Shamar, Stewart, yeah exactly. So and The, browns by the,
way traded away the second overall, pick you, know and
one of the premier, playmakers most unique players in this
draft class trade away From Travis hunter in order to
bulk up that defensive line With Mason. Grant.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
Yep so it's the F C north has always. STUFF
i extracted that to continue to be the, case and
that's just this is just some new wrinkles stadtgs to the.
Equations so fun, weekend a lot of action for The,
ravens AND i think this, team without a, doubt got
better over the course of these three. Days so as,
always we love to hear from. You email us at
the lounge At ravens DOT nfl dot. Net thank you

(43:15):
so much for, listening and we will be back with
you this.
