Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome into the lounge presented by DraftKings. We have the
pleasure of sitting down with Jadeveon Clowney before a big
game against the Browns and Gadevian. Let's start here, number
twenty four, all right, So at first, you know, when
I saw it, I won't lie. It took me a
little time to warm up to it. I didn't know
if a pass rusher could make twenty four look good.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
But you've done it.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
You've done it, sir. You know you know the man
makes the number, not the number makes the man.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
You know, yes, sir, it's weird, it's funny, and up
been twenty four. I got here, I think, knowing trying
to camp on the end. It was like two numbers
left that had fifty and twenty four. I was just like,
let me just go with twenty four. Fifty I watched
justin Houston were last year, right, I'm gonna go with
twenty four this year, and to see how it's something different.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I was allowed to weird, like I'm gonna try it now.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Didn't ninety three come available though, like as you did.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
But I still ain't like ninety three.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I still think twenty four was a better number than
ninety three, So you're rocketed. And I was like, hey,
Kobe Ward, twenty four, it's a Cobe year, so fu
turn for me, and uh, you know, I'm just trying
to represent that number one this year and put on
for twofold.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Yeah there, did you even try to? You know, I
know that a lot of times there's some wheeling and
dealing that's on with none particidal.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Couple of guys.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Okay, you did try.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
I talked to him about my numbers and stuff, you know,
but you know, they stuck some of the guys hoigh
draft picks and I went into paying nobody fund Humber
this year, so I was just gonna go with twenty
four and I kind of ended up liking it.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
So yeah, Code year, I like that. So you have
really fitting great here since since you arrived, and I
think it's been awesome to see. I remember the day
you signed, you know, you signed, and then you basically
walked right out to the practice field. The guys are
out there during training camp practice and you're like, all right,
let's head on out there right after you signed your contract,
and I was kind of walking with you as you

(01:51):
caught up with some of these guys who you knew,
and it felt like a homecoming. I'm like, this is
strange because it's sound like you've been here before. It's
not like you've been a teammate with many of these
guys before. And but it felt like a homecoming. Why
was that?

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Man, I had anew a lot of the coaches from Houston. Uh,
and then I knew Chuck so uh, and then I
knew uh a few more of the guys that had
trained with me down.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
There, and uh, Houston.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
So what I got here, I was just like, Man,
I'm excited to be back with guys that I know
and that I can understand that's coming from where I'm
coming from. That we you know, it's gonna be easy
for me to brian and get them what I got
to offer. And Uh, it's been it's been well since
I've been here.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Just how great has this move been for you? Personally?

Speaker 4 (02:32):
It's been great. Man, I'm enjoying every bit of I
got a lot of family up here. Uh that's been
wanting to beat Ravens Baltimore Ravens for a long time.
And I brought up I was a fan of this team, man.
I always been a fan of the Ravens way, the
defense is where they played ball. So for me to
get the opportunity to come play alongside some of the
great players, it lamar them and uh all the other guys.

(02:54):
There's so many good players. I can go all day,
as you know, so Patrick, Queen's and Roc on them.
To be a part of that group, it's special and
I just want to continue to play well and just
get it when I got to offer for the game.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
It's kind of funny that you mentioned that because like
Harbes and other people have also kind of said, like
we've had our eye on Clowny for like a while,
like we've been kind of trying to make this happen.
And you say your family is just like how close
the family are?

Speaker 4 (03:18):
We talking like my granddaddy's kids growing up. All I'm
up here, so there's a lot of cousins. I got
to live in Baltimore. It's been calling me for years
about playing it. Am I gonna come to it every time.
I'm gonna free about what's going on the Ravens And
I don't know about this year. We'renna see, We're gonna see,
We're gonna say it, and it finally happened.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
So was it ever close like previously?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
All the time it's like you always got your no
hear to the phone, waiting to hear, like what's gonna
be in your age and telling you. So it's always
talked with them one teams and every year, but you
never know until the last minute you're ready to put
your name on that line where you're gonna end up.
And when I came here, I kind of was like,
already know I'm probably gonna end up here. So it
was kind of a joyful moment for me to be

(03:59):
back here and just be playing here, and I want
to take advantage of my opportunity.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I'm in year teen now, you know.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
They say that's the time you're getting old, you start
moving so but I feel like I feel great, only
thirty years old exactly. But let them tell you know
how the football years add up a.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Little more like dog years.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Like dog years. I feel great and uh, I just
wanted to containe to play.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
Yeah, that's interesting. So like when you've gone through the
free agent process before and you said they're like, oh,
you felt like it could have been the Ravens. Was
there ever a time you're like this was the time.
This was real close, because you've had some thought.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
It would have been like, yeah, I got traded.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
Okay, interesting because I always we look at it and
we like it's been reports. It's like we've we've seen
all the Ravens are interested in clowning this.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
So the yeah I got trade, I thought I was
gonna get traded here. I heard rumors about me being
traded here. I was like, that'll be cool. You know,
they got a good team, made the playoffs, great defense.
I'm sure I can fit in that defense. The way
they play is like a dog hungry defense and grown
man mentality, and we're gonna play head. We're gonna, you know,
get to that ball and just physical, physical, and that's
always I seen myself part of a physical defensive front

(05:07):
that's gonna like to get out of it.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
School. I also thought it was interesting that you in
one of your press conferences, you talked about what you've
seen from John Harball and how he kind of trusts
and empowers his players, going to them and asking do
you want to go for it? Obviously you've been on
the other side of some games against the Ravens and
have gone against Harball coach teams. But what was it
about John Harbaugh and wanting to play for him that
was attractive to you?

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Like you said, man, that's the way he feel about
his players. You can just see it from the opposite
side lines or just watching teeth and just being a
part of here. Now, it's true. You know, he's sitting
hang out with us, He talk conversation, eat with us,
and you know, spend a lot of time with the
players and talk a lot. We spent a lot of
time talking about my family and stuff when I was
on the road games. And I respect that a lot

(05:51):
coming from the head guy. You know, he's taking his
time and get to know his players. Man, some guys,
some head coach up and around them, don't really care
to get to know the player. They just want you
to come and play and put the work in. But
when you got a guy that care about his players
and care about how you feeling and what you're going through,
I think you learn to respect that guy a lot more.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
You, like I said, you.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Want to come in and it's easy to go to work,
and you enjoy going to work for I gotta respect
you a lot more.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
It's cool, you know.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
I always think back to a game twenty seventeen Monday
Night football Texans versus Ravens at M and T Bank Stadium. Dude,
you were wrecking shot. You were like they were putting
you everywhere. You were like full out sprinting at Marshall
Yonda and just like trying to just blow up the
offensive line.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
You remember that one.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Huh Rfpter the running back that passed away Alesconsin was
running back that year.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yeah, I got him a few times in the back.
But it was a game. It was a game. I
always every time I hear me playing against the bottom
all ray and I always say, you got to bring
your physical mentality of physical as to the game because
you know they bringing it. And I just always say, man,
I got to show up for them games against the Ravens. Man,
you know they showing up. So I was just trying

(07:04):
to play well back in the back.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
In the end, I think that that, Yeah, I think, well,
I think that one like stuck in the Ravens heads too, like,
well you got a sack, two tagles for loss you
got I remember that.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
I was like.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
I caught him boy Doyle's or something.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
That boil boil catch boiled to that's that's a good one.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
He's big coming downhill you.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
It was good, it was enjoyed them games.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
So you talk about, you know, the connections that you
had previously, and obviously Anthony Weaver coached you back in Houston.
How big of a factor was that coming here? And
just like, what is it about coach Weave that really
kind of brings out the best in you?

Speaker 4 (07:45):
He just trusts me, he know what I'm gonna do.
He pit me in a situation where he trust that
I can be a playmaker. And that's all you can
ask him when he pitched up situations. I don't want
to stay around. I want to go out there and
give them everything I got. And uh, you know, the
way he delivers the game and the film study and
what he see on tape makes the game that much easier.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Man.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
And he's a smart guy. So I look, I like
to be in his room and meets to learn from him.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
How different is your role in the Ravens defense and
in Mike McDonald's defense compared to what your role was
last year.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
I don't really have a role last year, but go
out there and play left hand. This role here is
more of a movie around, play play. Well, you know
it's a different.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Don't It's like that twenty seventeen.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Yeah, it's a whole lot different, a whole lot more
respectable role. And I rolled and I really enjoy and
I'm glad they pitted me in the situations and leaning
on me just late in my career, like I said,
ten years in, and uh, I can get them type
of roles. And I just want to continue to go
out there and deliver. You deliver and when I'm out
down the field and for this team, because they pit

(08:52):
me in them situations to win.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
So nice's go ahead and try to do that.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
Yeah, it's I mean, you've had a great start. You
got to learn to have sack so far through these
three games. And I know, I know I was. I
wasn't gonna bring it up. You said, it's.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Even pressures to pressures count. You know they're good, They're good.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
In this league.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
I know, I know there was a couple on cz
Strit that you had right there the first.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Game in like eight months. I don't know what happened.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
It's blaming our rust, blaming our rust.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
That's what I'm each week.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
I'm determined to get better and better and better and
just keep working at it. It's gonna come from the
practice and the work we're pitting in throughout the weekend.
I believe the fun I'm having to enjoying the game
right now, all that's gonna just play together roll over
to Sundays.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
I mean, you look like you're having fun out there.
And and Mike McDonald's defense. One thing that since he
became a defensive coordinator here, everyone says that he basically
finds ways to put players in positions so maximize their talent.
I think Kyle Hamilton is probably a good example of that.
From last week's game. He's you know, he comes downhill
and he's got three sacks coming off the edge. He's
used you in some creative ways. What is it about

(09:58):
the way that he, you know, Bill's his defense and
is utilizing you really stands out here, man.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
I think Mike pretty pretty smart man. One of the
best defensive corners i'n't had for a young one in
a long time.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
The way he moves.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Guys around, like you say, not disguising and teach him
how to show one thing and move something else, make
it look like here we're coming from here. It's so different.
It's crazy and I'm loving it. I was like, bro,
keep bringing whatever you're doing. What of the players you
call it is working?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
You know?

Speaker 4 (10:28):
He just keep dialing it up. And he ain't the
guy that gonna sit back now and let you pick
him apart. And he got an attitude about hisself. And
you can tell about it. What he called a game.
You just know what he called it. He aggressive and
he getting out the guys. He ain't until sit back
and letting nobody bring it to him. He always about
getting let's get throw the first punch, throw punches. And

(10:49):
I respect that. I liked I like the way he
called a game.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
I want to go back to twenty fourteen first overall pick.
You know that's something that never goes away. You know,
that's that's a badge of honor that you wear for
your whole career.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Year.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, what's that like as a young guy? You know,
we talked about you've been ten years in the league,
you're the only thirty. You were a young dude, Yeah
coming out, man, what's that like in handling the pressure
of that and all that?

Speaker 3 (11:13):
You know, how did that change you as a man?

Speaker 4 (11:16):
I think that pressure was a little different back then,
because like you said, I was number one pick. I
going to trying to captain, have a great camp. You know,
I think I'm tearing everybody up, you know, week one,
come I get hurt, you know, yeah, this is the
whole year, and that time probably was the first time

(11:37):
of my life I probably had a face to real adversity.
You know, all my life I've been growing up. I'm
good at football. I'm great, No, no, not just good, great,
just beating, you know. But at that point in time,
finally get hurt, and I'm just like when I got
off the couch, I'm like, I'm different now, you know.
M So my body felt different. Everything was a little
different than it was before I got drafted. So it

(11:58):
was like, this is when I had to become a
news just then beyond kind of that guy, I'm picking
up like the guy you've seen that probably that's how
you've seen ten years ago, you jacket. That guy was
gone that day I got hurt and I became a
new player. It's my grind effort change and the way
I started to look at view view the game, except

(12:18):
it can be taken away from me like that. And
they gave me a fifty fifty chances that Michael Fraction
I had and I've been blessed to play ten years
with it and continue to grind out.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
They give you fifty fifty chance to play again again.
And it just so the listeners viewers. It was a
knee injury, knee injury, and you had and a micro
fracture surgery right after you had the initial knee injury,
which is like this comp I don't know, I'm out
a doctor here.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Going and stab holes in your bone, let it leak,
let it harden up, so you don't walk for like
two months. Then you start the process of walking over
and started all the way over. So wow, that was
the hardest part of me my whole career, going through
that little phase right there. But it kind of made
me grow into we're gonna stop playing around. I used

(13:02):
to play a lot, you know, because football was fun.
It was never serious to me until I got hurt
and it became serious. Like, hey man, you're gonna you're
gonna be able to play the game you love. You
better take this thing serious. And then that's why I'm like, oh,
i'ma start grinding, like for real, for real, working out,
grinding to the point where I don't want to miss
the game. I don't want to not play this game,

(13:24):
So whatever it was gonna take for me to play,
I was really willing to do.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
So.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
You thought your career could be over before basically before
it even started.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Before it started, I thought it was over. I called
my mom, was like, we can't spend no more money.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
I was really really in my feelings about that because
I've never been hurt, and the doctors all came there
and kind of scared me. Was like, man, we don't
know how it's gonna go. A lot of guys don't
come back from that injury that they know. Most of
the guys don't come back, so we'll see how it go.
And I felt like, you know, it changed my career,
but it also made me a better person and a

(13:58):
better player today too. Understand that accept the grind phase
and the hard work you gotta really put into this
game to play at a high level.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Did it change you physically? Like did you have to
change your.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Game at all?

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Because I was two seventy, I couldn't carry the way.
I couldn't carry no more way. Every time I was
like over two sixty to sixty five, my knee hurt.
So for years I was like, I ain't gonna never
go with two fifty two fifty five, So I keep
my weight eat right, just make sure I'll never gain
it weight. But that's all the way I can play
and not feel as much pain. But I feel pain.

(14:31):
And then every time I can tell when I'm getting heavy,
I'm like, oh my knee started hurting, Well, go see
how much I weigh drop it back down. It's a
certain time. But over the years I tend to compat
on a little bit more, a little bit more, a
little bit more. But at first I couldn't carry like
two sixty to sixty.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Well, and you basically it sounds like it just became
something that you just learned to manage and deal with,
and basically it's gonna hurt at times, like you just
basically learned to how to handle it.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yes, for the last ten years, Yeah, pretty much.

Speaker 5 (14:58):
And so so the fact that you've made it ten years,
Like they tell you your rookie you're twenty years old or
twenty one years old, and they say you might not
ever play again. What does it mean to you to
be playing now a decade later?

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Like I said, man Pro Bowl tru. Yeah, blessed to
be sitting here on this couch and playing this game.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Man.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
I just thank God every day, like I say, man,
because he brought me here and you know, gave me
the extra years and maybe better gave me the opportunity
to go out here playing be sitting with you guys.
But it's been crazy. Like I said, it's a been
a journey and I accept the good and the bad
with it. But you won't move good and bad.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
You know.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
I noticed today that your birthday is three days after
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
This year to.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Fourteen, we need to be in the Super I mean,
hell of a birthday, president, right.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
My birthday would be taking care of That'd be great.
That'd be great. That's what I come here for.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Yeah yeah, I mean what what is kind of what's
ahead for Jadeveon Clowney? You know, like what do you
what do you still want to check off it?

Speaker 3 (16:03):
You know, you've had a great career. What is it
is it that like.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
I said, this year, my goal was to play seventeen guys.
My completing the season has always been my initial goal
because I always said, if I can play a whole season,
I know I'd be at the top when I'm done
with that season, just being out there being healthy and
it's playing. So that's been one of my goals, and
of course winning the super Bowl, that's what I signed
up come here for. I've seen the guys. When I

(16:26):
came in, I was like, bro, I know what it
looked like. This's my fourth, fifteen, four fifty, but I
know what it looked like. And I feel like I've
seen it in this locker room and a group of guys,
they so tight and so so nick tight together, like
we can put it together and win it, and uh,
I just want to be a part of that.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
You know, you're talking about the teams you've been on.
Your career is really interesting too to me because you've
on the business side. You've done things differently than most
guys years. You've done always one year deals, but you've
made a ton of money. And it's like it's only
you're signing like one year like little Trump deals. Like
you're signing big time one year deals.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Right, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
I've been blessing lucky man, lucky because I have been
in and just going out there, put my head down
and there's like I said, grinding them out. Man, it
ain't been a year. I haven't been in pain. If
it's something going on, I'm like, all, let's take care
of it. Let's just get it taken because I want
to play this game. You know, I don't never, I
don't know how I'm a feel without the game right now.
That's probably why I still sign up and enjoy the
walking the bill and running around on the field like

(17:26):
my good days, in my days, I'm having fun. I'm
loving it. You know, you're stuck in the house. You
be like, what I'm gonna do? You know, you be
bored so with my kids all day. But well, I
like showing. I like being in a team, karate being
in the lean locker room and enjoying kicking in and
talking to the guys and picking their ranks. Funny because
we all from random places and all the sudden we

(17:48):
formed this team and you just figuring out. Then you
find out we all got some stuff in common, right,
you know, So that's what I like to you find
out gods from all over we end up from a
different end up meeting together, but we all at the
saying just about a simple pass to get here and
I like that type of environment.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Do you think.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
Everyone's got a different approach on like the business side,
Like why have you? I got to believe there's been
you could have signed multi year deals at times in
your career, like you.

Speaker 4 (18:15):
Felt like that a few times. Ye, I had them
on the table, but sometimes I felt like some guys
seeing was nick picky on that because of the injury
I did so I felt like that was something the case.
But I did have some long term deal on the table.
I didn't take sometime.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
And it's just interesting that you've been able to do
it that way, Like I just there's not many guys
to do it that way. It's it's kind of cool
to see that.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Yeah, I'm trying to continue to do it, continue to
do it well.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
We hope it's a multi year stay here.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
I've enjoying it. I hope so too. I felpe I
can finish it up here and continue to play well here.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Man. I like being here. Man.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
I'm enjoying walking into work every day. Being at work.
It's like it's a breeze. It'll go by pretty smooth.
Even practice. Everything just go by smooth days around here.
So it's not nerve wrecking. I've been places like I
said this be like I mnna get ready to walk
in this building, man, godly, but man, I wake up early,
coming in here early, just to sit around and kick

(19:11):
it with the guys, eating breakless with them, and.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Just you know, shooting what we call it.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
And last question for me. You know you're going to
face the Browns this week. Your former team played there
the last two years. You said yesterday, there's no bad blood,
there's no extra motivation. Is this one of those times
where like after the game, you know we get a win,
and then after the game you're like, yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
For sure, I don't.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
I don't think there's no guy in the national football
we all talk about that come from the old team
that wants to lose to the exactly like, especially when
you just left up the year before, you like, I
do not want to lose to my old team, so
you do want to prepare and do everything you can
go out there and beat your old team. Man, I've
been very successful against my old teams late. I want
to continue to stay there, so let's just try to, yeah,

(20:00):
grind this one out and go out here and fight
like all dogs up there and the dog man.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Gotta go hell love it, We'll get it done.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Man.

Speaker 5 (20:10):

(20:32):
over twenty one and physically present in Maryland to play.
For help, visit MD Gambling, heelp dot org or call
one eight hundred Gambler. So I just enjoy the conversation
with Jadaveon. Guy that's that's been through a lot in
his career, highs and lows, and it would I appreciate
his candor and willingness to be as open as he was.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Yeah, I mean it seems like he's just in a
really good place, you know, physically and mentally.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
You know, it's just like it's just been a really
good fit here.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
You know.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
And I think you don't know when you sign a guy,
a veteran like that. He's bounced around a little bit
and had all these stops. You're like, you know, why
is that and what not and how's it gonna work?
And it's just worked out beautifully. Yeah, And you know
he's playing well, he's fitting into the locker room really well.
He seems to really get along with his teammates a
lot and the coaches, and you know, it almost feels

(21:21):
like it's a you know, who knows how much much
longer he's gonna play, but it's like this revived kind
of new stage of his career, this new chapter kind of.

Speaker 5 (21:31):
I mean, look, we've seen this with other players throughout
the Ravens history, John Harbaugh's time here. Like it seems
like the culture here is really strong and that veteran
players can come here from other teams and feel like
they're welcomed and feel like the organization, the team, the
players embrace them. Ye Odell has talked about that, Jadevian
talked about that, Mark, Steve Smith, Marcus Peters. There's a

(21:54):
bunch of guys. If you go back and you look
at where that just feels like it's worked beautifully. I
think Clowny's a good example of that. I think he's
playing well and man like, especially when you look at
where the Raves are injury wise right now, that like
a Jabo and Oway are hurt right now, tyas Bowser
still on the field man position. It's good to have
Clowney on this team right now.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Yeah, I mean, it's kind of crazy.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
You know.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
He's like the goal was to play seventeen games to
stay healthy, and that's been kind of a bugaboo for him.
Well goodness gracious, he's you know, not the only man standing,
but not far from it right now, and like they're
leaning on him to stay healthy and keep playing. And
it's a yeah, knock on wood he.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
Has, yeah, I think. And it's you know, one and
a half sacks of these three games, and like he said,
could have had at least two more. You know, I
think that, like he's just playing at a really high level.
He's getting after the quarterback. He's disruptive, he's the team
in pressure. Like he looks to me like pressure Ray.
He looks like when rate. You know, the reason he
was an Ember one overall pick is he's a game wrecker,

(22:54):
like everyone remembers the play back when he was in
South Carolina where he you know, took the head off
of the Michigan player. Like everyone's seen that highlight a
million times, and like he can he can be a
game wrecker, and I think that we're seeing elements of
that this year. And I just I also thought it
was interesting him talking about how he's used.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yeah, for sure, that it's it's a lot different than Cleveland.
I think, you know, they had Miles Garrett there last year,
and a lot of stuff is kind of set up
for Miles Garrett for him to succeed, and I think
that Jadeveon here it's set up more for him to succeed,
you know, and other guys of course, But like I
think he's just not locked into as much of a
box and he's got a more versatile role and I

(23:34):
think he's really enjoying that. Yeah, it is interesting though.
You know, I remember when he first went out to
the practice field the first time, I was like, oh,
he is like thinner than I thought than I expected.
Like you see, like you're talking about you see that
South Carolina clip of him captating the guy, Yeah, and
you're like that was a big big man, you know,
and like he's still tall, but he's like lankier than I.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
Thought, kind of looks like a basketball player a little bit.
He does.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
And he you know, he called Kyle Hamilton the Avatar
this week. I mean Jadavion Clowney could very much have
the same name. Yeah, he's in the same avatar.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Fan.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
How many avatar movies are this? This's get James Cameron
on the horn. There's gonna be another. It's another sequel
with Clowney and Kyle Hamilton.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
Seriously, he could be ran in there.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
So it is interesting how he's kind of reinvented himself
a little bit as a player too. You know, physically,
he's just a later dude, and he's he's got to
be different than he was back in those game Cock days.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Yeah, I thought that was that was interesting. I thought
it was a really interesting point from him. And you know,
I think that in talking to him, it certainly feels
like he he feels like, you know, the career probably
hasn't gone to the level of that he expected it
to go in terms of production. But he's playing. He's
played for ten years, he's done all these one year deals,

(24:45):
He's made a ton of money early big.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Years and he's had good Yeah, been up and down.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
He's been up and down, and the injuries have been
a challenge. But there's no doubt that he is uh,
he's dynamic.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah, and he can, like I said, he can be
a game and he puts it all together.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
He's had really successful years and I thin think that
he feels like he can do that here, his role,
his health, you know again knock on wood. You know that,
like the coaching staff, all all those factors that like
he can put it all together this year.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
I mean early indications are that's the case.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
And and I think he would love to put it
together on Sunday against the Browns.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Absolutely, Yeah, let's talk about that game. I mean, this
is a big game two two on one teams. The
Ravens obviously coming off of a frustrating loss to the Colts.
The Browns are are looking really good, coming off a
big win against the Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
I mean their defense is.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Ranked number one really in every metric, defensive metric right
now in points allowed, in total yards allowed.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
It's not even close.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
I mean, you got like ninety yards per game ahead
of the next closest team in yards per game allowed,
red zone defense, pass defense, the number two in rush defense.
It's it's impressive. Now, I don't think the Ravens are
gonna cowtow to that. You know, They're not going to
just sit there and be like, oh, you know you
got the best. Roquan Smith made that very clear, and

(26:05):
so I think there is an element to this game
of like the Ravens are going into this thinking, all right,
we're gonna see who has the better defense. You know,
we're facing their offense, so they're not studying the Browns
defensive tape. They're studying the Shaun Watson the offense, but.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
You're talking about the Ravens defense. Once the Ravens defense
on that to prove against the Browns.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
I definitely sense that chip on their shoulder to say,
all right, who's everybody's talking about how great they are
and the number one defense, who's the better defense?

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Let's see Well, I mean Rokwan made this point. It's
through three weeks of the season, which is like an
obvious point. And the funny thing is like, if the
Ravens were the number one defense through right now, they'd
also be saying it's only three weeks of the season,
and so that's that's just a reality other thing.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
And you know, you give the Browns props like they've
done it the first three games, like it's been good,
you know, but like it's a long way to go
and a lot of proving to do over the course
of the season.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, look, Miles Garrett is one of
the best players in the league, has been for he
has been He's got a massive contract, he's one of
the most dynamic players, another number one overall pick, you know,
so he's he's a great player. So he is gonna
be a he's gonna be a challenge and talk about
moving him around like they move him all around the
defense too. So the Raves offensive line is going to

(27:17):
have its work cut out for them in terms of
figuring out where they end up putting Miles Garrett on
that defensive line.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
I'm sure you've seen the clip of him jogging from
one end of the of the line to the other
and the tight ends, the Tennessee tight ends.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Following him and then they got to delay a game, right.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
I've also seen the clip and him doing his working
on his basketball moves right over the center and then
you know, flowing through into the back backfield.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Ask John says it about that, He kind of laughs,
he said he saw that. He I said, so what
do you do about that? And he said, don't let
him cross you over?

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Yeah, yeah, hit him. Yeah yeah, that's the different thing.
The thing in basketball you can't hit him, you know exactly,
football you have that option, so you can try that.
But no, he's gonna he's gonna be a challenge. Like
I think, I do think it, Like maybe there's a
little bit too bitch being made about like the defensive
ranking at this point. You know, it's it's week three,

(28:07):
We've been through three games, So I'm with the Ravens
on that and that, like let's see where this thing
plays out. But with that said, like I think that
their defense is great. And it's also crazy, like it's
crazy how much things change week to week in the NFL.
Like a week ago, the Rams are two and oh
and they're coming off the big win in Cincinnati. The
Browns had just lost to the Steelers, they just lost

(28:29):
Nick Chubb, and it's like, you know, everyone in Cleveland
is saying, like, man, this team is going to be
in for a long year. And then and now all
of a sudden, both teams are two and one, and
it's like, all right, this is a massive game. It's
maybe one of the best games of in the NFL
this weekend.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yeah, with the Bengals at one and two and Burrough's
still dealing with the calf, it's kind of like, all right,
is Ravens Browns? Is this going to decide the division?
Or these are two division leaders, right, you know? And
so this is gonna be an early indication of kind
of the pecking order a little bit in the AFC North.
And we'll still have a long ways to go. But
it's a big game. There's no say or buts about it.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
Especially when you consider what's on the horizon, which is
at Steelers next week. I think you got to play
the Titans in London. It's it's tough sledding here. So
it's massive, yep, uh, you know.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
And I think the Ravens offense too, obviously has a
lot to prove.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
They're coming off of.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
You know, you have kind of a frustrating, rusty game
and week one, you have a great game in Week
two against Bigals, then you come back and it's another
slog against Indy, so they also have something to prove
against this top Browns defense and and just kind of
getting on the same page and you're you're now hopefully
getting some pieces back.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
So on the offensive line, Ronnie Stanley tile Linbaum returned
to practice on Wednesday, both limited, So we'll see. We're
not sure yet, but hopefully they progress through the week
and and get those guys back.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
That would be a big deal.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
But you know, the Ravens offense has a lot to
prove as they kind of continue to grow and work
out the kinks in year one under Tod Yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Mark Andrews said this week, like there's still kind of
a feeling out of what this offense is going to be,
Like the identity is still being formed a little bit,
and I think that we're seeing that happen now. You know,
look if if if the Ravens find a way to
win that game, they get ten more yards, if that
pass interference gets called, if the sixty one yarder from

(30:15):
Justin Tucker falls, Like, I don't think we're having identity
crisis issues, you know, talking about the offense this week,
I think it's a much different conversation. I think the
conversation is like, you know, the Ravens are one of
the best teams in the league, and now they're going
to go up against the Browns. I think that that's
that's the conversation. So but but those those issues that
you've seen still would exist either way, and so you know,

(30:38):
I think that I think there's they're still kind of
figuring it out. They've had some major injuries on offense too.
Ronnie Linderbaum obj it isn't played. They were down to
their fourth and fifth running back last week.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
So like all that stuff has had a pretty significant impact.
And I think that I'm still really high on this
offense in the direction that it's going at Todd Monk,
and I think that there's been there's it's I like
this offense. I've really good about it.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
Yeah, I mean it as I always say. Look, injuries
aren't an excuse, but there's certainly an explanation for some
of the troubles that the Ravens have been having. There's
you know, when you have two backup offensive linemen and
you're like you said, fourth and fifth running backs, it's
just not the same. It's just not that's that's a
fact huh, right, and Bateman was struggling with an injury

(31:21):
later that game, when you're already without Odellingham Junior, Like,
you know, nobody's making excuses, but like those things matter, right,
And so Gus Edwards, you know he practiced on Wednesday too.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I think that would make.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
A full participant as a full participant, right, So John Harbaugh,
you know, the question is kind of like is he
still on the concussion protocols? Because always weird it's like
is a guy and is he out? And John Harball
was like, well, basically if he was in concussion protocol,
he wouldn't be out there, right, So that's a positive
sign about his status.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, for sure. So I think that would be a
big deal.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Which Usin Hill hasn't returned yet with his foot, but
I think getting Gus.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Back out there would be a really big deal.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
And so I think that this this game in Cleveland, Yeah,
I mean it's gonna be a slug fest, There's no
doubt about it. I think with these two defenses, is
it a race to seventeen and are scoring? I mean
it certainly could be.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
Yeah, I think it could be. But I also, like
I just said, I like this offense, and so maybe
this is the week where it's like the offense starts
to put it together a little bit more and then
we're all saying what we were two weeks ago, which
is like, man, this team is great. This you know,
tough road to win.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Right.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Who expected the Dallas Cowboys to get beat by Theirs
and the Cardinals and the Cardinals be running up and
down the.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Field against that defense, right nobody?

Speaker 5 (32:35):
So it's early.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Yes, it's every week.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
To week and I and I like this offense's ability.
So yeah, And like when you think about games that
they've played at Cleveland in recent years. Two years ago,
Lamar got hurt there. Yep, last year he didn't play there.
The year before that was the uh iconic game to
go inside, you know, get fluids, go to the bathroom.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
Whatever you want to believe.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
I knew you were going to get there, whatever you
want to believe, you're going to get there, and then
come back and hit that big play Like that was
the last time there. So that was a pretty good memory.
So I'm certainly glad to have Lamar Jackson healthy for
this one.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
Yeah, there's been some great games there, so really looking
forward to this one.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
Cliff is out.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
Yeah he got the boot.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
But I'm sensing, I.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
Think what what happened with Cliff? You know, basically we
were feeling it. It's like the playworks. You know that
this play works. Just just go back to it, go back
to the well and you know, too many times exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
So let's go to Cleveland, Garrett and get the pound.

Speaker 5 (33:45):
Here we go, let's get it.
