down in Week three against the Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Adam, thanks for joining me.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
It's good to be with you.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
And I can't believe we were just talking about it
before we start. I can't believe it's already a month
into the season. And I mean no shortage of storylines,
as there never is for the forty nine ers, but
lots to get into.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, what a nail biting game. Let's just get straight
into it. What were some of your biggest takeaways from Sunday?

Speaker 4 (01:46):
It's kind of been sort of the same as my
takeaways were for Week one in week two?

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Is that already the way these games have played out?

Speaker 4 (01:52):
And specific to Sunday's game sixteen fifteen, I mean, the
nine Ers aren't scoring a lot of points, but what
they've done this year relative to last season, and you
know this from covering this team so closely, they've already
won three games in a way that it felt like
they were always going to lose games in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
They found ways to win.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
And I know that the margin of victory has not
been all that big ten total points over the three wins,
but I think when you look at how they've found
ways to win, how the defense has gone out and
made plays. How the young players have stepped up and
played at times like veterans, and how you've won two
games now when you're starting quarterback as played one of
the three year team has played. I think it says
a lot about the depth, and it says a lot
about the character and the coaching staff. I mean, I

(02:28):
think I think Sunday was a Kyle Shanahan Robert solid masterpiece.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I thought that was kind of my take away from that.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, a narrow sixteen to fifteen win over the Cardinals. Now, unfortunately,
some of the biggest news coming out of that game
is that it has been confirmed that Nick Bosa suffered
a torn acl in his right knee and we'll have
season ending injury.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Obviously, this is really hard for the team.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
That many players have shared their prayers for Nick Bosa,
and Kyle Shanahan said that Nick Bosa is simply irreplaceable.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Adam, I want to hear your.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Reaction to this all, but also how some of the
other guys really stepped up on Sunday. What was your
reaction to just everything that went down?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
It was I mean, it's devastating, right, because Kyle's right
and that there's no one player you can get that's
going to replace Nick Bose. He's a top five player
at his position. The forty nine Ers are a top
heavy team, right They have some of the best talent
in football. If you took the top ten guys on
the Niners roster in talent wise and regardless of position,
and you stack them up against the top ten players
on almost any other team, you'd go the Dotters probably compete.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
They're right there with everybody else.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
The question is, to your point about who stepped up,
how do the next wave of players react, how to
the next level of guys step up. What they've done
in the first three weeks is have nine defensive linemen
active and they've had the ability to cycle in some
of the young players.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
CJ.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
West, who also went down with an injury, a young player,
Alfred Collins, Michael Williams, Kalia Davis, like all these guys
have stepped up in the defensive element of creating pressure,
and it looks like they've taken a step forward from
where they were last year.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Once Bosa went down.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
It really did feel like Michael Williams, who also at
one point left the game with the a risk injury,
who re entered, it seemed like he played at the
highest level he'd played all season long. It seems like
each game he's gotten better and better. The question is
can they manufacture the same pressure, the same level of
defensive line play, and the same run stopping ability When
you don't have Bosa, it can't be one guy. It's
going to be a Frankenstein of guys, sort of like

(04:18):
we've seen in the receiving corps right where you don't
have a brand that if he didn't have Juwan Jennings
on Sunday, it was Skymore, it was Kendrick Bourne, it
was even Marcus Valdez scanting at times. Just had to play.
So I was happy for what the young guys were
able to do. But it is a long road forward.
And what we've seen from John Lynch in this era
of nin or football is if they can find something
that will help the team, they will be active on

(04:40):
the market. I don't think that's something that happens in
the immediate but I do think it's something that we're
going to look at down the road as we get
closer to trade deadline stuff. I think you gotta be
happy with how the defense closed the game without their
best defensive player on the line. But it is certainly
a major blow and it's hard to see how they'll
compete at the same level against some of the top
teams in the league without them.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yeah, I mean, we'll keep our eye on that. And
like you said, Kyle Shanahan gave a ton of praise
to the rookie mikel Williams. He's been showing a lot
and this Sunday I think was one of his best games.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I also want to highlight Bryce Huff.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
He got to Kyler Murray with a sack right towards
the end of the second quarter. What have you seen
from him so far as that free agent edition joining
that D line.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
It's incredible. He was such a late season acquisition, right
or laid off. He's an acquisition, we should say, And.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
He's a guy who had a lot of pedigree coming in,
but it's sort of fallen by the wayside in Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
And I read a story about him the other day
or a comment from him.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
We said he keeps the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl ring
in his locker. He wants to look at that thing,
and he takes a look at it and it reminds
him that it's not somewhere where.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
He felt like he was as big of a part
of the system.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
He said, he feels like he's into place now like
he was with the Jets with Robert Solid, where he
feels like this is a system that works for him.
I think that in football specifically, we write guys off
so frequently in their careers where they have little bits
of success somewhere and then it doesn't work out the
same way. But there's such a revolving door of coaches
and coaching staffs where it's so predicated on a guy
finding a system that is right for him. I mean,

(06:06):
look at Matt Jones. I think he was let down
in New England by what happened with the coaching staff there.
He ends up in Jacksonville, where he started some games
last year, but I think this year is a system
that's really benefiting him. I think on the defensive side
of things, for Bryce Stuff, the exact same thing can
be said. He's a veteran presence of a vocal leader,
and he's the right kind of guy who will be
on the field for most of these snaps and is

(06:26):
a starter now on the opposite side of the defensive line,
He's a guy they're going to look to to sort
of shoulder that load as a veteran for some of
these young players. So while his actual action on the
field has been great, they're gonna ask, I think a
lot of him to be a step up leader where
he's not just a third down pass rush guy.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
They're gonna need more on a huff.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
But he's been, as you pointed out on Sunday, maybe
the best defender on the field to this point.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Now, if we're talking big time performances, we've got to
talk Christian McCaffrey. He's been the engine of this offense
keeping that side of the ball alive in these past
three games so far. On Sunday he saw fifty two
yards on the ground eighty eight through the air. Adam,
how important is his versatility when it comes to keeping
that offense moving.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
We just talked about the receiving core right being depleted
and banged up, like the reason, it doesn't feel like
they've lost much in the receiving game. Even when they
didn't have Juwan Jennings, they really didn't have a second
receiver number two this past week, right, I mean it
was sort of a mishmash of Bourne and Stanmore.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
It's Christian McAffrey and you put it out fifteen targets.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
By the way, on Sunday, he's got seventy seven touches
through the first three games, which is the most ever
for any player through three games in forty nine or history.
He's on pace for over four hundred and thirty touches.
I don't think we're going to see him hit that level,
but considering he missed all the time that he did
last year, he is the motor that makes this offense good.
What's going to have to change, I think for the
offense's efficiency and especially for him, is.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
They've got to find the end zone.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
When they get down into the low red zone and
they're inside the five yard line, they can go to
find a way to punch it in. We wanted so
badly for him to get in from the one when
they went forward on fourth down on Sunday, he gets
hit in the flat by mac Wilson and doesn't get in.
But ultimately they don't win this game without him. And
probably the biggest, i'd say of the top three biggest
plays of the game on offense for the Niners, the
screen pass on that final drive that was all set

(08:07):
up by incredible play calling by Kyle. I mean, when
things go wrong for the Niners, when there's a turnover
the next series, let's go back to Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
If you can't move the ball through the year, it's
go to Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
They did not have that weapon last year to do that,
and they needed him so badly on Sunday that Brian
Robinson only saw the field for a couple of different carries, right,
he had a pretty small snap count or snap share
out of the backfield. McCaffrey is as important of a
player as anybody on the team. If you were to
rank like the top five guys that the Niners need
week in and week out to win a game, he
is absolutely number one. Unfortunately, Bosa, in my mind, is

(08:39):
in that top five, probably top two or three. It's
like Bosa, it's Warner, it's McCaffrey. Christian McAffrey is as
important of a player and I think what we're going
to see from him in the ground game is once
the receivers come back, and we'll talk to Marcus Robinson,
who's going to return this week. Once you've got Ricky
and DeMarcus Robinson and Juwan Jennings and potentially I Uke
at some point later this season, and George Kittle teams
aren't gonna be able to sell out to stop the

(09:00):
run like they did on Sunday, like they did even
in New Orleans. We saw him run the ball a
little bit better in Seattle League One. But really, I
think what's gonna happen is you're gonna start to see
some of those holes open up. The red zone is
going to get more efficient for them. But what they've
been able to do in relying on him considering, I mean,
it's funny. He doesn't seem like he's that big of
a guy with the hits that he takes, the way
pops back up, the battering that he took on I mean,

(09:22):
that was a sort of knocked him down, drag him
out type of game for the Niners.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
And they don't win it without McCaffrey.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Seriously, And while we're talking about that receiver corps, like
you said, no Brandon Ayuk, no Juwan Jennings, Christian McCaffrey
stepped up, But what about Ricky Piersall's impact.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
I mean, he's been having an amazing three games so far.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
I'm immediately thinking of that clutch thirty four yard catch
on Sunday. What have you liked and seen from him
so far?

Speaker 4 (09:46):
I mean has I don't know if there's been a
player in like my adult life who has become a
faster fan of than Ricky Parasol. Like we all after
the tragic situation at the start of last year, you
want so badly for it to work out for him,
and he had a tough time.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Getting on the field.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
We knew that he was viewed as a high level
replacement for somebody on this offense. They moved on from
Deebo Samuel over the summertime and basically handed the keys
to Ricky. Now, they haven't run like running back situation
stuff with him like they did with Debo, but he
has done something that we haven't seen in the youth
element and in the secondary. He's created separations, something that
Niners receivers did not do well at all last year.

(10:19):
And I think they were bottom in the league or
top a lot like bottom two or three in the
league in separation of yards in the secondary with their receivers.
Ricky seems like he's great in one on one coverage.
He's been a good run blocker on the outside for
the most part. He's been great as a deep threat,
which is something they've kind of lacked in the last
couple of years. I know they wanted that to be
a thing with Jacob Cowing. Ronnie Bell was a guy
they tried that with a bit. But he's a guy

(10:40):
who twice now has saved the game or helped.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Them win a game.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Because you pointed out an incredible play call, a ballsy
call on four and two from midfield over the shoulder.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
He catches it like off of his helmet.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Made a comment after the game, he's I gotta do
better about catching balls with my hands instead of just
catching him up on my shoulder. But he did it
also week one ran over was that a forty four
yard grab or something down the left sideline against Seattle
that helped them set up the game winning touchdown catch
by Jake Tong. Just so, he's been incredible. Just something
we should point out. He's also been clutched. We talked
third in Juwan on third down. He's the guy to
go to Ricky piersall in the season. As it stands now,

(11:13):
sixteen catches on the year, fourteen of them have resulted
in the first down, and only three of them have
gone for fewer than ten yards, which is pretty incredible,
which means he's getting downfield, he's creating space between he
and his man. And we know about the relationship already,
the chemistry he's got with rock Birdy, we haven't even
totally seen that come to fruition. So again, when other
pieces come back, I think it's going to mean even
more success for him. But again, they don't win at

(11:35):
least two of these games without the performance from Ricky.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Absolutely. Now, Adam, I'm impressed by these rookies. They're not
playing like rookies. We talked about Mikel Williams a little
bit earlier, but like you said, with that defense helping
close out the game, up in stouts, huge third down
pass breakup, even Connor Colby's first career start and stepping
up in place of Ben Bartch, what stood out to
you about the contributions from the younger guys.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Well, first up in stat I mean, he's the guy
who I think was sort of a darling of training camp,
and you were out there for all the practices in camp,
and like when you start to get a look at
the rookies. You never really know if you can trust
what your eyes are telling you, right, because you're seeing
in practice, you're seeing drills, you're seeing routines.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
You don't really know whether.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Or not the guy's going to be able to apply
it to actual game action. And then we get into
the preseason and he wasn't even really able to go
in preseason because he was dealing with a calf injury.
What's alarming to me is how how not only he
has stepped on the field without playing in the preseason
at all, but how he's immediately caught up to speed
like he knows where he's supposed to be. There's there's
been kind of a trial by fire with some of

(12:34):
the young secondary.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Marquis Siegel is another guy.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
He's been great in the secondary for the first couple
of weeks, but Upton Stott was past week one with
dealing with one of the best slot receivers of all
time in Cooper Cup, and did a pretty damn good
job on Cooper Cup week one. Then week two you've
got to deal with a mobile quarterback in Spencer Ratler,
which may have been a nice little setup or precursor
to having to deal with Kyler Murray. It wasn't just
that he was able to make that last pass deflection.
It's that they did a really good job at covering

(12:57):
in the secondary. When a guy like Kyler Murray runs
around and extends plays in the backfield and the way
that he does, it's tough for a secondary guy or
a young player to stick with his man or to
know how to run to the open space and to
stick to his guy for the duration of that play.
That was a game saving pass deflection that he had
at the end of the game. I mean, they don't
get the ball back, they lose the game right there
if that pass has made it look like it was

(13:18):
gonna be.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
He's sort of a long armed, rangey guy. I'm not
really sure what is cheeling it is. I'm not a.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Great like talent evaluator. It's been one of the most
impressive parts of the season to this point. Now you
mentioned Connor Colby on the offensive sat on the offensive line,
here's a seventh rounder out of IOWA, and the book
on guys from Iowa in general on the O line
is that when they come into the league, they're better
run blockers than they are pass blockers.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Chris cask I heard a.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Comment from him in training camp in preseason where he goes, yeah,
we did a lot of one on one drills with
Connor Colby and he's of course the defensive line cards.
Chris Caseric is talking about facing Connor Colby and how
in past one on one, past drills he wasn't all
that good. Then they got into the game and he's like,
we couldn't throw the same stuff at him when we're
doing drills or we're doing one on one actual practice
scrimmage stuff. We couldn't throw the same things at him.

(14:02):
There was a lot of thought that I thought, or
that people thought he was going to be the starter
for Ben Bartch, who was dealing with an injury at
the start of the year.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
There's a big chance.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
I think Connor Colby has an opportunity to do what
Tom Pooney did last year, take over a job for
somebody injured and not give it back.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
He had no pressures allowed Week one, he was very good.
Week two.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
I know there was a big hold that led to
a safety there in the third quarter, which is a
young player's thing that will happen, and maybe it's a
mental flub there, but he think he's a guy that
they're confident and I'm pretty excited about what he's been
able to do to this point. Bru Moss is the
other youngster who's going to be right up behind him,
who could end up being a good swing tackle or
a swing guard for them. But Connor Colby, Upton Stout,

(14:42):
mikel Williams. They had eleven draft picks in this draft.
Everybody but Junior Bergen made the team, and Bergen still
on the practice squad. You know, they had to hit
on a bunch of these picks. This may be a
very good draft for John Lynchin Koshen, and we're already
starting to see some of the fruits of that labor.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
No doubt.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Now.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
I feel like the word that's been describing this team's
play over the season so far is resilience. I talked
to Kyle Yuschek after the game, and he said that
they were going to close it out no matter what
it took, whether they won by forty points or they
won by just one, they were going to get it done.
Let's highlight Mac Jones and how poised he was in
bringing the team downfield to help set up Eddie Pinero's

(15:19):
game winning kick. What do you think of his performance,
especially when it's getting really tight like that.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
It's incredible. I mean more to the point that it's
not like they won. You know, a lot of times
you have a backup quarterback and you're just trying to survive.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Right. They didn't win in spite of mac Jones.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
They won because mac Jones put together two great performances
and he did it while throwing forty one times on Sunday,
and he threw thirty nine times in the game against
New Orleans. If you told me the Niners were going
to have the inefficiency at times, if you look at
the stat.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
Sheet from Sunday and you look at like how they
did on third down, they were two for ten.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
They lost that battle. They lost the run game battle,
they lost the turnover battle. They didn't never have the touchdown.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
That was crazy.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
It was nineteen to two at one point, I thinked
like early in the second quarter.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
It was incredible how little they had touched the ball.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
And then he was able, after starting slow like he
did in New Orleans, to find a rhythm and to
start hitting his guys, to find Christian McCaffrey to find
some comfort in some really great passes that he made
to Kendrick Bourne. You said resilience. I think that's absolutely
the identity of the team. But you also said poise
about mac Jones, and it's something that I don't think
can be overstated about about how he's played to this point.
He looks comfortable, He seems like he understands and grasps

(16:27):
the offense, and I think you'd agree with me that
it's maybe the most similar a Niners offense has looked
with a back quarterback as with a starting quarterback under
Kyle Shanahan meeting like in the past, we've seen guys
like CJ. Bethard come in or Nick Mullens, and it's
something against those guys, or even last year with the
pastronad and with who else was back to Brandon Allen

(16:48):
was back there, Sam Donald a couple of years ago.
I think they've lost the least in what they're able
to do on offense with mac Jones relative to brock
party because I think they have somewhat of a similar
skill set.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
He does an extend plays.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
He's not as mobile as Brock, but he's got a
big arm he's got a pretty accurate arm, and he's
made some really really good reads. Again, I don't know
how you ranked backup quarterbacks because they're backups around the league, right,
But I could see mac Jones after this two year
contract being a guy that another organization looks at like
the Seahawks and the Vikings did with Sam Donald and saying, hey,
here's somebody who still has it. And we talked about
coaching and finding the right system for a guy. Clearly

(17:20):
this is a place where he feels comfort.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
And I loved his.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
Comments after the game when they asked him about whether
or not he was taking rock Perty's job, and he said,
Brock is one of my best friends in the world.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
He's going to be back soon.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
He's gonna take this team and he's going to get
us on the track that we need to be on.
He's done everything and more that you could ask from
a backup quarterback. You know, I was happy about the
signing because he's a guy with experience and a guy
who was started and played in the playoffs at one
time in his career. I don't think I was going
to be I didn't know I was going to be
as excited about his performance where if he's in there
instead of Rock, I've still got a pretty good level

(17:50):
of confidence that the Niners are going to be able
to do everything that they want. He delivers the rock
to McCaffrey, made a great throw to Ricky Pierce on
the sideline, and even the throw last week to McCaffrey
for the touchdown in the end zone, and to Juwan
Jennings on the forty two yard crossing pattern for the
touchdown grab the longest of Juwan's career. You see that
play from behind, he threw him open. He was you know,

(18:10):
he's behind a linebacker. He's making great timing plays. I
can't say enough about what Mac's been able to do
at this point because again, the Niners offense isn't putting
up a ton of points, but he's doing everything that
he can to lead them to victory and to put
them in a position to win two weeks in a row.
Now he's let a big touchdown drive that led to
a victory. I've been I've been thrilled with his performance.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I think he deserves a ton of credit, and I
also think he's a perfect fit for this locker room. Now,
looking ahead, Jacksonville is coming into town. What are some
of the biggest storylines as you look ahead to Week four.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
Well, Tomarcus Robinson's return, I think is number one. Health
is definitely always a paramount concern. I think for the
forty nine ers. I don't know why, it's just always
something seemingly we have to deal with. I'm wondering about
Djuwan and I'm wondering about DeMarcus Robinson entering this week. Ironically,
I don't look at this game as that important of
a game. It's an AFC opponent, It's not a common
opponent with a lot of teams that you'll be competing

(19:02):
with for postseason stature or for playoff seeding positioning. Potentially,
your NFC games are the biggest. The NFC Western of
course the biggest. And I've got that game on Thursday
night against the Rams week five circle as the biggest
game of the season to this point. Now, the Jags
are a team of the new head coach, They're a
team that struggled so far on offense to this point.
They're all what's eatin familiar with Mac Jones if in

(19:24):
fact he does have to play this week. So we're
waiting to see what the status of brock Perty is. Now,
all signs are kind of pointing towards a potential brock
return this week, which is also a key storyline. If
you've got DeMarcus and you've got Juwan Jennings back, and
you've got brock Perty back. The absence of Nick Bosa,
more pressure now, I think is on the offense than
we've seen to this point in the season. With all
the young talent we saw coming in on defense. My

(19:45):
thought in the beginning of the year was the offense
will have to carry the defense while the young players
get up to speed. It's actually been the opposite. The
defense to this point has made the plays at the
end of games. They forced a couple of turnovers, the sacks,
and they've closed out games with the exception of the
game winning drive this past week. But he could make
the argument that upon Stout and Fred Warner and the
defense closed out to get the ball back to give
them the opportunity to win. So I think without Bosa,

(20:07):
without the pressure, they're going to be able to apply
to Trevor Lawrence in the same capacity.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
This week, it's going to be all.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
About putting points on the board and allowing the defense
and opportunity to sort of find their footing and make
some mistakes that they could make without Bosa. So it's
for me the top three is brock perty Back. What
impact does to Marcus Robinson have because he looked like
one of their best receivers all through preseason and in camp.
And then Juwan Jennings because if all those guys are back,

(20:34):
you've got a full receiving core of one, two and three,
you've got your starting quarterback, you open it up for McCaffrey,
and now the opportunity.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
For the offense to sort of carry the defenses.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
There.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
That's really I think where my focus is heading into Sunday.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Yeah, Adam, a lot to look for this week. Thank
you so much for joining us.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
On the saloon to break it all down.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
We look forward to hearing more of you on our
airwaves and seeing you this Sunday for the game.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Always fun, Bree, We'll see on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Now, let's take a closer look to the lead up
and everything that went down against Arizona in Week three. First,
I chatted with defensive lineman Bryce Huff just days before
that Week three contest to talk about the matchup with
Arizona and a little bit more about his transition to
the Bay Area. On game day, I found sportscaster Kay
Adams on the sidelines at Levi Stadium, and right after
the win, I found Kyle used Take on the field

(21:17):
to talk about the game and get his initial reaction
to the.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Forty nine Ers being three.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
And first up my conversation with Bryce Huff just days
before the contest.

Speaker 7 (21:26):
What's that, faithful?

Speaker 1 (21:27):
This is your forty nine Ers team reporter Brionna Janelle
sitting with defensive linemen and Bryce Huff before the Cardinals
versus forty nine Ers matchup in week three. Bryce's congrats
on starting to and O and thanks for joining me.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Thanks for having me of course.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
All right, let's start with last week your game winning
stripsack against the Saints. It came just two point four
to four seconds after the snap, the fastest sack recorded
this season. Can you take us through that play and
what you saw?

Speaker 8 (21:52):
Uh, honestly, I was just watching the back tip of
the ball and as soon as it snapped, I just
tried to get off as fast as I could and
bend the edge, and then Spence Radler just happened to
be like slipping forward with the ball because Nick and
sam Over collapsed on the other side, so he was
trying to escape them and I was able to come
in and swipe the ball out.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
Now, as mister Bugatti, do you feel like that quickness
is your biggest weapon? You look like a sprinter when
you're in that four point stance. So how have you
developed it at the NFL level?

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (22:22):
I mean it honestly started in the attack front with
coach Solin, coach White Cotton in New York. And I
feel like just consistently getting off every day in practice
helped me develop that mind body connection and knowing when
to react and stuff like that and go off the ball.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
So yeah, speaking of that get off.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
The NFL Time to Pressure leaderboard right now has you
at number one, with Nick Bosa right behind you at
number two. Now, before you've talked about shifting your mindset
to play to the strength of the whole D line
instead of just winning your one on one, which always
is important. What do you see as the strengths of
this D line group.

Speaker 8 (22:58):
Honestly, I feel like we just have the same mindset
just get home as fast as possible. I mean, that's
what that's that kind of speaks for the mindset that
we have across the ward between me and Nick, Mike Hill,
Katie y Tour, like sam O, Whoever's out there trying
to get home as fast as possible when we realize
his passed on first second down, and then third downs
when we know it's going to be passed, like it's

(23:19):
just guns blazing.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
So yeah, yeah, you've got some of those new faces
on the line with the rookies. What's impressed you about
how they've stepped in and contributed so far?

Speaker 8 (23:28):
They really don't have too many rookie mistakes, you know.
I feel like normally when you come in as a
young guy, like you're like a deer in the headlights.
But I feel like every rookie year is just like
locked in, Like they approach every day with a very
professional mindset and just get everything done when it's supposed
to get done, and it shows up on game day
because they've been making players left and right.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
So yeah, yeah, Well, this defense has a special fan
base in the faithful. You've already experienced forty nine Ers
fans taking over stadiums in back to back road games.
I'm sure their noise had a huge impact on that
game winning sack.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
Tell me, now you get to play.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
In front of them for the home opener.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
What was your first impression of this fan base.

Speaker 8 (24:05):
I mean, they're they're extremely supportive, especially like traveling. I
feel like in New Orleans and in Seattle, I feel
like we almost had like a home game type like
level screaming on thirty downs and stuff. Just how many
people were there in New Orleans especially, that was crazy.
That looked almost like a home game, especially in the
lower deck of the stadium. I just saw like red
and gold, So that was cool to see.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Now we're in the Bay for week three, tell me
more about your motivation to come to San Francisco. You're
reuniting with Robert Sala after your time together with the Jets.
What do you like about his scheme and how it
fits your game?

Speaker 8 (24:38):
Oh, I mean it allows me to just like pin
my ears back and I think about doing too much,
Like I can just be physical, be fast, just be
a ballplayer instead of like just calculating like three four
things to play like, I'm just going out there and
doing my thing. So I mean this is like my
favorite way to play football.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
Yeah, and you've got a unique perspective of Sala because
you've started with him as your head coach and now
you see him as defensive coordinator with the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
How have you seen him grow as a coach?

Speaker 9 (25:05):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (25:06):
I mean I feel like he's always been a great
coach in my mind, Like it was as far as
pertaining to me, Like as a head coach, I thought
he was a great coach. And then even here like
the same thing, like he's the only honest p's and q's,
Like defense is playing well and he's calling the best
players to get us in the best position to execute
and perform well.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
So yeah, yeah, you've shared that.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Also, defensive line coach Chris Kaseric means everything he says,
and that's very clear with how passionate he is. How
have you seen that manifest so far? And what has
he taught you about the art of rushing the passer?

Speaker 8 (25:38):
I mean, like he does mean everything he says. You know,
he's a very passionate coach. You see it every day.
He's the same guy every day, the same energy, high
level guy, and then he just kind of like breaks
the game down in a way that helps you. Like
I feel like like kind of play to your strings.
More like he kind of breaks it down to where
you're not seeing for far different things. He makes it

(25:59):
black and white in stet of gray, so you just
know what you're looking for every every rep and then
when you see certain things, you know exactly how to react.
So Chris Kiser is a great coach in that aspect.
He definitely gets the job done and puts us in
the best position to ball out.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah, we've got a divisional matchup this Sunday. What keys
has he given you to the Cardinals O line?

Speaker 8 (26:18):
I mean they have a solid O line and then
they have Kyler back. There's a dynamic and can make
plays with his feet, so we have to be locked
in on that front. Can just let him scramble everywhere
because he can he can hurt you and that and
that aspect of the game. So that's something that we're
definitely going to be paying attention to, rushing with good
lanes and not doing undisciplined things.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
So yeah, I just wanted to speak on that point.
It's onto Arizona this week, and this week's focus is
on stopping the run and containing quarterback Kyler Murray. How
do you defend a quarterback with that kind of mobility, like.

Speaker 8 (26:49):
Like I said, just maintaining discipline rush lanes and not
not all being on one side of the ball, or
like just messing up your assignments. Like as long as
you do what the plays the play call is, you're
gonna be good.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (27:01):
And then yeah, just don't don't do too much and
trying to make a play and let him, you know
what I'm saying, expose you.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
So that's cool.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Yeah, it's a lot about with Chris Kask and Robert
Sala has taught you about this Cardinals O line and
their run game. But when you study the Cardinals offense,
what stands out to you?

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Honestly? I feel like they have good good tackles for sure.
I mean, I mean it's the NFL, everybody's good, But
I feel like they have some strengths that we're gonna
have to really try to get after so that we
can get home nice.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Now, when the defensive line has closed out the game
for the first two games of the season, what do
you want to see from this group now in the
home opener?

Speaker 8 (27:40):
I mean, take advantage of the solid count. I feel
like get off is going to be consistently better here
with the solid count, a loud stadium on our third downs.
I feel like that's going to show up. And honestly,
just continue to stack good weeks and continue to grow
as a d lineman. You know, I'll just get hear
not too long ago. So even though we haven't rushed

(28:00):
out of high level, I feel like there's more on
a bone for us to, you know what I'm saying,
go out.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
There and get Yeah, you've talked a lot about your
sack selly with the Jets, also with the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
You think we'll be able to see some motion from
you here in the bay.

Speaker 8 (28:12):
Probably we'll see yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Nice, Well, thank you so much, Bryce, and I'm looking
forward to see you compete on Sunday. It's week three
at Levice Stadium, and I'm with the wonder miss Kay Adams. Kay,
welcome to Levi's Stadium.

Speaker 10 (28:25):
Welcome, thank you for welcoming me to this incredible vibe.
Happy that we finally get a game in Santa.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Clara exactly now the Niners start two and zero. How
are you feeling about this twenty twenty five nine Ers team.

Speaker 10 (28:35):
I think the division is tough. I think we're here
playing the late game in Week three. The Rams look
so good against Fatals. Not to bring up the Rams,
but we've got to keep this team afloat. I think
we can do it big one division war. We don't
look past this one. Don't look Pastest one Niners. I'm
excited about it. I think it all today relies on
Christian McCaffrey minimizing mistakes, and that means giving him the

(28:57):
ball as much as we can.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
I was just about to say it, these divisional games
are what matter the most. Tell me about the NFC
West and how competitive it's going to be this year.

Speaker 10 (29:05):
It really will be. I mean, this is a game
against the Cardinals, team that suppose we had a tough
division will make mistakes.

Speaker 8 (29:11):
They won't.

Speaker 10 (29:12):
We have to force Kyler into mistakes today.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
That's it.

Speaker 10 (29:15):
That's the name of the game. And I'll say this,
this is a game where I really like both.

Speaker 6 (29:19):
Of the defenses.

Speaker 10 (29:20):
So I'm sure you'll be watching this after all a
said and done, it's going to be about Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Yes, And now we're just talking about the vibes here.
We are feeling a vibe right now in Santa Clara,
the faithful have been following us on the road in
these first two games. Tell me what you love about
the forty nine ers fandabase.

Speaker 10 (29:38):
I mean, I took a plane from LA this morning.
It was full of Niners fans, Niners fans talking trash
of the TSA at Lax who are all Rams fans.
That's the kind of stuff, Okay, Adams can get behind.
I will say this, I have never worn game It's
like game.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Stuff, game gear, game team gear, game day.

Speaker 10 (29:57):
Gear of any team.

Speaker 8 (29:58):
Ever.

Speaker 10 (29:58):
I'm always impartial. It's the first time in my career
that I'm Rockey so Arizona. You know I love you,
but I love Kristin Yuschek. I love the fact that
you have a producer here who is a woman. You
are redoing your thing. We have the best women support
on the sidelines to the Kristin Olivia everybody. So I
just like, I have a soft spot in my heart
for these Niners.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
The girls run the bay.

Speaker 10 (30:19):
And let me just say, I'm wearing game issued gear
for the first time for you, Kyle Shanahan. If you
don't sit down with me for an interview, I am
gonna cry every week until you do.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
You heard it, Kyle now we are in Levi Stadium,
home of Super Bowl sixty. Tell me what the vibes
are like here in the Bay Area. What what should
fans expect come February.

Speaker 10 (30:39):
Taylor Swift's gonna look so good right there right at
the fifty. Or she's gonna like fall in like Lady
Gaga did. That's what I'm looking forward to.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
What do I have to expect?

Speaker 10 (30:50):
I actually missed that Super bowls the only one I missed,
so it'll be the best of the best.

Speaker 5 (30:55):
As always.

Speaker 10 (30:55):
We got a long long time till we get there, though,
So let's say healthy niners and maybe we'll see you there.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Okay, I have so much fun today. Thank you for
joining me.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Teck the camera, I don't let's do it.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Let's do it, Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
I thought about that about what we do math flight
for one another? Wait by hos phone doing so, get
in the paint and do what we do.

Speaker 9 (31:34):
Maths Wait, just wait, let's make plays right spotting up
two one two flat up, love it, love you.

Speaker 5 (31:47):
We gotta be desperate today. Be desperate every time you
touch that ball. Get everything in shifty hand.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
All right, let's go take this thing.

Speaker 5 (31:53):
RBS on three one, two, three right?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
We need right every day we all over real nice,
all right, talking.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
Round, going around, Ole's talk right, Get on mine right, ay, right,
get on mine right right now. Play for your brother,
Come on, play for your brother. Give me everything you've
got today. Let's go. Let's go bed, don't what.

Speaker 8 (32:22):
The what do?

Speaker 11 (32:27):
Right out?

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Right? Now?

Speaker 8 (32:30):
What's the one of three?

Speaker 1 (32:31):
What?

Speaker 10 (32:31):
Two things that's in the world.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
I'll be rough.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
Let's go back from Let's go.

Speaker 8 (32:36):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Pat here you tell me and you're big an athletic,
go play to it. You hear me and you won't. Hey,
come on, I'm dominating. I mean you have to dominate.

Speaker 5 (32:48):
Oh my god, it's real good today.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
The god baby, there's a stone five bot.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
Bay.

Speaker 12 (33:13):
Now here's the smam shotgun. Tyler Murray drops back. Here
comes pressure. He bats it away, does huff christ Haf
knocked it away.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
We need to worry.

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Call you may great showing. Pressure comes off the edge.
Murray gets it out quick. George one online and diomedor
le Noor wins bat battle.

Speaker 12 (33:45):
Tyler Murray in pressure situations, able to get it out
at Jason.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Pennock cleans it up. Thomas morristaed is gonna put it
down at the twenty eight on the right. Hash to
kick is up, it is away and it is boke.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I go Dan, Let's go Dad, Let's go Dan.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
Get right.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
How are we gonna stop here?

Speaker 9 (34:14):
That'd be nice.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
Keep digging deep, keep digging deep. Nobody said this that
it's gonna be easy.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
We just got anticipate obviously.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
You see he he out there, and you know as
soon as he go down there, what'll we get.

Speaker 5 (34:39):
To takes the snap, pressure up the medal bed and.

Speaker 12 (35:06):
Away fred Water with a big paw, both arms out
as he looks at the crowd.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
Anybody else would, but fred Water did. And it's fourth down. Alright,
we gotta.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Be you got a chance. Don't look you baby, Let's go.

Speaker 12 (35:38):
McCaffrey beside mac Jones takes the shotgun snap sets up
the screen. There is pressure, he's got it block in
front of diccafrey. Another cuts it back of the twenty.
McCaffrey down of the fifteen.

Speaker 5 (35:47):
Yard line, and you're I'm gonna do your big I'll
tell you thirty five yard try or pinero.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
It's down.

Speaker 5 (36:06):
The kick is on the way.

Speaker 8 (36:07):
He is gone, my.

Speaker 9 (36:16):
Man, come on, let's go, come on Baby's talking about their.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Go I told you what I tell you.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
It feel right to wear baby, the right to wear. Oh,
I'm like, wow, pull it out. Feel good?

Speaker 11 (36:50):
How the juice?

Speaker 1 (36:53):
You brought the juice to Levi Stadium today and the
forty nine ers win over the Arizona Cardinals. You found
your way into the end zone here. How did you
feel about the team's performance today?

Speaker 11 (37:03):
Man, it was just by any means necessary. You know,
we didn't We had a lot of things not go
our way. But the end of the day, if you
can score more points in them, that's all that matters.
And uh, I think that's the type of team we
have right now. We have a gritty team that's just
gonna find a way and we're still piecing things together.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
But to do that in a win is where you
want to be.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
This win was so important for this team. Just like
you said, it was a close game.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
How did you overcome the challenges that that defense showed
you today?

Speaker 11 (37:30):
I think just believing in each other and just keeping
the course.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
You know, we had a lot of.

Speaker 11 (37:34):
Guys out there that are you know, new to this team,
Guys that we haven't you know, seen in Levi's yet.
And it just took some time, but eventually we pieced
things together. We stayed in the course and they found
a way to get it done.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Now, this team stepped up when it mattered most. What
does that say about the resilience of this group.

Speaker 11 (37:53):
I think it says so much. This team can get
knocked down, you know, it can be dirty, but we
don't care. Like we always say, we'll win a game
three to zero if we have to, or we'll win
it forty five to forty four.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
As long as we get that win.

Speaker 5 (38:07):
That's what it's all about.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
And it's a win right here at home in Levite Stadium.
Tell me how good it feels to win.

Speaker 11 (38:13):
In front of the faith ball There's literally nothing better
than win in front of the faithful. To get it
at our first home game of the season, gets a
division opponent, you can't ask for a better start.

Speaker 5 (38:23):
So we're in a good spot.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Congratulations, Kyle, enjoy the way.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Now joining me on this loon is Jacksonville Jaguars team
reporty Kid Nani stevens Ki Nanni, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
For joining me today.

Speaker 7 (38:34):
Absolutely happy to be on with you.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Absolutely Now the Jaguars got off to a two and
one start to start the season.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Tell me about what you've seen from the Jaguars so far.

Speaker 6 (38:45):
Sure, So, we had a ton of changes in the
off season. We have a new GM, a new EVP,
a new head coach, so a lot of changes in
the front office and players. We brought in a ton
of new free agents. Also some rookies making contributions early,
so a ton of off season changes. It's the third
offensive system for Trevor Lawrence, so some changes there as well,

(39:06):
but overall just kind of trying to set a.

Speaker 7 (39:10):
New vibe, a new tone with this team.

Speaker 6 (39:12):
It's a lot younger in terms of the GM is younger,
the coach is younger, so all of that has been
a focus for them and just establishing their own identity, right.
So when you bring in that many new faces, you've
got to figure out what your team is going to be.
So for the first three weeks, we've seen that physicality
is something they are really all about showing and showcasing

(39:32):
and setting the tone of a game and just being
a lot faster flying around. On defense, it's about takeaways
for them, and on offense, they've been very committed to
the run.

Speaker 7 (39:41):
That's been huge.

Speaker 6 (39:42):
They've said that from the get go, and that's been
a focus for them and hopefully that.

Speaker 7 (39:45):
Opens up some other things on offense. But that's what
they've been focused on so far.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Well, looking at Jacksonville in the first three weeks of
the season, what's really been impressive is the defense. I
think you guys are leading the lead and takeaways so far.
Tell me about what's been working on that side of
the ball.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
Sure, So that's been really impressive for everyone here to see,
especially because this is one of the worst defenses.

Speaker 7 (40:05):
In the NFL last year.

Speaker 6 (40:07):
Obviously, they brought in a new staff head coach, defensive
coordinator Anthony camp in Ela, coming in from Green Bay,
and he's all about, you know, keeping your eyes out
for the football, establishing yourself physically dominating.

Speaker 7 (40:20):
And they've been able to get nine take so far.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
They had eight defensive takeaways all of last season, so
to say that they're doing a lot better than last
year being an understatement.

Speaker 7 (40:28):
I've also had seven interceptions.

Speaker 6 (40:31):
When you get that many takeaways and give your offense
that many more opportunities, that's obviously going to be a
benefit to you. Defense is maybe not what we assumed, thinking, Hey,
Liam Cohen's a offensive minded head coach. It's going to
be all about a high flying offense. But for the
defense to come out and play as well as they
have so far has been a huge boost at a
big part of the two wins that they do have.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Now, at the beginning of our conversation, you mentioned that
the run game has been the key to success for Jacksonville.
How has the offense really established the run and these
two wins so far.

Speaker 6 (41:01):
So Liam Cohen, I think one of the first things
out of his mouth was, we're going to have to
establish the run. Right He was offensive coordinator with Tampa
Bay last year. He had Bucky Irving and they were
able to do some amazing things with him when he
came in here. Travis d Tn is the starting running back.
This is his fifth year here in Jacksonville, and there
hasn't been a ton of commitment to the run previous years,
so he's in a contract year right now. He's had

(41:22):
an amazing first couple of games. They also have a
rookie bachieal Tuton that they took in the fourth round.
He is so fast and they've been able to kind
of up his carries because they traded the way Tank
Bigsby another wide receiver they had to the Eagles earlier
a couple of weeks ago. So giving Bachiel Tootin some
extra carries, we've seen him be very explosive. They use
them running backs in the screen game a lot. They

(41:43):
get them involved in different ways, whether it's motion or
different sort of plays. On offense, Liam Cohen's been very
creative with his play calling so far. First two weeks,
they were running away with things, really leading the league
and rushing. Last week, the Texans defense did a pretty
good job of shutting them down. But that's a great
defense and that was their entire focus coming out in
that game. So that's understandable. Yeah, and I imagine the
focus will remain exactly now.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
I want to hear about Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Since we're talking about the offense, how is he establishing
with Liam Cohen and how do you evaluate his game
in the first three of the season.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Sure, so, Trevor Lawrence obviously coming out as a number
one pick, there's always high standards set on that. He's
had three different offensive systems in his time here. This
will be his third one as third head coach and
Liam Cohen has really catered this offense around him. It's
a new system for him, but it's catered around Trevor
Lawrence having the ability to go up to the line

(42:36):
of scrimmage. If he reads the defense and he sees
something else, the play that is called isn't going to work.
He has the ability to audible out of it, change
the play whatever he thinks will work best. And giving
him more autonomy we've seen has been good for him.
He's been up and down so far, whether that's learning
the new system or if that's just some issues that
he's been having. We've also seen a lot of drops
from the wide receivers, specifically last week. Also, Brian Thomas

(42:58):
Junior has had some issues with drops in the last
two weeks. So those are issues that affect Trevor Lawrence
because if your wide receiver's dropping the ball, that's not
as great. When the run's not established, like we saw
against the Texans, again, more problems for Trevor. So for Trevor,
a lot of what we need to see is more consistency.
He has the ability to make some great throws and
read some defenses. He had a great play last week
that helped win the game when called out of audible

(43:21):
out of a run play, I thout Brian Thomas Junior
over the middle for a huge game, end up scoring
a touchdown and winning the game against the Texans.

Speaker 7 (43:27):
So the ability is there.

Speaker 6 (43:28):
It's just going to be consistency for Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Awesome.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
Now we are just days ahead from Week four. Now
what do you think of this forty nine Ers Jaguars matchup?
Who do you think could possibly be an X factor
that Niners fan's got to keep an eye on?

Speaker 7 (43:43):
So this will be a tough one.

Speaker 6 (43:44):
They always the Jaguars have a ton of trouble on
the road, specifically in California.

Speaker 7 (43:48):
They're owing to against the forty nine ers.

Speaker 6 (43:51):
In San Francisco. I think they're four and eleven in
California as a whole. So that alone, is that something
they're going to have to get over getting their first
road win with their new regime. And the forty nine
Ers find a way to win all the time, which is,
you guys have a ton of injuries. I'm sure you're
dealing with maybe you don't know who's going to go,
but the next man up has always been remarkable. What
coach Shanahan's able to do and having the next player

(44:12):
ready to go and fill in that spot. That's something
that they need to be prepared for. On defense, just
doesn't necessarily matter which players are out there, but knowing
that Kyle Shannon's going to dial the thing up and
being prepared for that. So I think a lot of
what the focus is going to be for the Jagson
offense will be trying to establish and get the wide
receivers involved early so that they can get the run

(44:32):
game and play complimentary football, because if only one of
those things is working, they're not going to be able
to win on the road. And then on defense, again,
it's just playing fast and getting the takeaways and giving
your offense some extra opportunities.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Yeah, definitely. I think the matchup I'm looking at in
this game.

Speaker 1 (44:46):
You talked about the Jaguars run game and how that's
been established over the course of these first three.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Games of the season.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
For the Niners, it's their run defense. They've allowed just
three point seven yards per carry so far.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
Now, when we're.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
Looking at that, how do you see the Jaguars attacking
this challenge on Sunday.

Speaker 6 (45:05):
So part of that is they revamped their offensive line
a bit in the off seasons. They brought in a
new center, Robert Hainesy worked with Liam Cohen in Tampa
Bay's brought him over. That has helped their offensive Live
play has been great. To be completely honest for you
with you, Trevor Lawrence hasn't really been pressured that much.

Speaker 7 (45:19):
It's had some time to throw.

Speaker 6 (45:21):
They've had some success in the run game those first
two games, not as much against the Texans, but still
we're able to run the balls up. So I think
going up against a team that specifically is great at
stopping the run, you're gonna want to not You're gonna
want to stay consistent with it. But also they will
need to get the wide receivers involved. Willam Cohen's very
creative with how he does the run games and disguising

(45:41):
it in different ways and making it look like something
that it's not. So if they're able to kind of
successfully do that and open things up widen the field
a little bit, I think that'll help out. But again,
if your wide receivers drop the football, there's not much
you can do in terms of that. But I think
that will be the focus early. Getting Brian Thomas Junior involved.

Speaker 1 (45:57):
Yeah, well, both teams are hungry for a win on Sunday,
looking to add another number to the win column. So
for the Jacksonville Jaguars to travel to California and look
to get a win, what are some things that are
going to need to work well for them to make
that happen?

Speaker 6 (46:11):
So I said, on offense, I think the wide receivers,
getting them going early and confident. Brian Thomas Junior had
an amazing, tremendous rookie season, broke a bunch of rookie
records for the Jaguars, but so far this season it
seems like he lacked confidence at times. He had some
drop issues as well, and it's been a little bit contagious.
Sianny Brown has had some issues with that as well
as Parker Washington some other receivers that we have here
in Jacksonville. So getting him early, getting him confident, I

(46:34):
think on the road there's no finger pointing at this point,
there's none of that, But just getting someone going early,
I think can do a lot for them. And then
on the defensive side of the football, we've seen some
good pressure from Treyvon Walker and Josh Heines Allen getting
after the quarterback. They were really able to rattle CJ.
Stroud in our most recent matchup against the Texans last week,
so continuing to do that that's led to help get

(46:55):
some of the takeaways. The offense is going to need
as many possessions as they can get in this matchup
against the forty nine ers, just because your offense can
be so explosive at times. So I think they're able
to play complimentary football in that way and just not
make silly mistakes. They've had some penalty problems as well,
so I think if they can cut out the penalties,
that will give them their best opportunity.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Well, Kai Nani, thank you so much for joining me
on the podcast today. It was awesome to hear your
perspective on this matchup. Really looking forward to Week four.
It should be a ton of fun.

Speaker 7 (47:22):
Thanks for having me. I'll see on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
