Speaker 1 (00:00):
Upon review, last year you played a ton of snaps.
Now it seems like there there should be like a
healthier rotation. How how do you think the fact will
keep you guys all fresh as you kind of go
into in and out of personnel groups.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Uh, it's great, you know, keeping consistent, consistency high and
being able to have no drop off in you know,
relying your brothers and trusting each one another and going
out there and dominates. It's a great feeling to have
that counter parts next to you to be able to
do those things.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
So with those guys there, I know last year and
you talked about people were overlooking you as a pass rusher,
do you think like built allowed for a little bit
more one on one matchups kind of snap a snap
for everybody since there is no drop off in town.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
And yeah, I feel like we're going to have a
a great success of doing our doing our job at
a high level because, like you said, we won't have
that drop off in Like I said, so like just
coming out here day and day out, putting network in,
you know, pushing one another and making sure we're on
top of our game a day in, day out. I
think we will have and build that up leading none
to the season.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Did you've played on them for a lot of defensive
plans at the university?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
What have what point did you tell?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
What did they do then just gone to jail?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
And how well.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
How hard they were working hard they push each other
and not just one person thinking about themselves, but thinking
about the D line as a as a whole, as
a as a defense as well, cause you know, I
feel the defensive line helps win those games in the
late downs, not having those guys cover so long and
giving the DB's opportunities to jump plays and not be
out there stuck on the island just chasing around. And
(01:31):
I feel like that helps extend, extend our urgevity of
of getting things accomplishing, getting things achieved.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
It they Shane, And remember you talking to us slash
year about your past rush prowess was the result as
finally of finally getting an opportunity to do so. Yes, sir,
how excited are you to build on that and kind
of you know, even take it even further?
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Uh, very excited. I would say, you know, it's a
new year, so I can't do them, but coming in
and just work day in, day out and focus on
what I need to do to get better at that moment,
and just keep building on all those things and working
those things with my brothers and making sure we can
pick it back off each other and making those plays
and doing the things we need to do. Know what
I'm saying, sacrificing ourselves may sound display my my sacrificing,
(02:14):
but just doing our job at a high level so
the other guys can achieve around us and those things
vice versas doing those after that helps us.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
With Bobby for a bit or a lateous career, what
have you seen Rod clients from him maybe just did
his games or.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
For uh O, this maturity, this leadership, the way he
work has worked at it's been it's been different, you know,
coming in when he was a a rookie back then,
but now sending him five years later. It's like, Man,
I love the manage you became a love the manage
you work at. I love everything you do, how you
approach when you come to work day in and day out,
and helping others and knowing it's not just about you,
(02:48):
when it's about others and include myself and like you
know what I'm saying, like him including himself by myself.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
So oh, okay, how does how does that Derek back in?
Speaker 2 (02:59):
How does that? During around that? It's fun. It's great
having big Deck Brown back man. Dv's my god. He
he demands a lot and it freeze up a lot
for others. Like I said, you know, guys worry about
what they're gonna do. We all know what he's gonna do,
and those things help sacrificing him and putting himself in
those positions and dominating freeze up for other guys. But
(03:19):
make those players. And it's just understanding that the complex
of the things that we need to do out there
and getting all done together and not just you know,
so cause we coming off and we're free, that means
we gotta capitalize. So that way it frees up him
so he can go achieve what he needs to go achieve.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
So and not not just having him there, but with
Bobby in there too.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I mean, you guys, the one that seem like the
other not having there a big weakness in the middle
of not having that space eater that took up a
lot of offs and free you guys outside of there.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Wh how does that help him? I don't sdn't see
him as a space eater. I see him as a
as a player. That's a like a record game, like
you know, like got same way I see Turk, same
when I see Bobby, same way I see dB same way.
I see all of us like all together collectively. I
don't think none of us are spaceyer. I think we're playmakers.
I think that's what we do. We demand a lot
(04:06):
of each other and demand a lot from one another,
and we make sure we do that day in and
day out.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Coach n Coach Canal said that you know, in his
time as a head coach or his cause, he's never
seen it. It's where there's been this much of a turnover.
Who kept everybody for the offensive line from this year
to last? Having everybody come back? How beneficial is that
for the defensive line group to be able to go
up against the same guys from top to bottom.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Uh, it's great. You know they did well last year,
working well and just having those extra pieces in us
going against each other and them having that camaraderie pushes
us to be better as a defensive line, to have
to communicate more and understand, to to have to jail
and to see those things because they have that jail already,
so it just makes us push ourselves to wanna do
those things more and the play and play out you
(04:50):
just like a pretty serious guy. I'm curious, what is
it like in that defensive line room? Is it? Are
you guys a jokester? What are the vibes? Uh? We're serious,
but we are jokes at the time. We have moments
of seconds there where we crack a joke or something,
but for the most part, we we get our job
done and coach Watch does a great job of bringing
us back in. We if we get to joking and
(05:11):
out there and then it's kind of back alright, let's
get back locked in. But for the most part, we
were locked in what we need to do cause we
know it's a job and tasking and think we need
to accomplish this year. You played last year?
Speaker 4 (05:22):
What what did January or February feel.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Like for you? Uh? Angry didn't get the chance to
go dance. I like to go dance. So watching everybody
else and watching the teams that we play against, and
watching those two teams that made it to a chip,
how we played against those teams, just knowing that we
lost those games cause we didn't finish. We didn't do
things correctly to to uphold and to achieve the goals
(05:45):
of getting the W So for me, that just that
fueled me to wanna come back and do more. Not
only is my s for myself, but for others, for everybody,
so I can be the best leader I can be,
being ten years in the game and giving back what
I can give and learn from whatever I can learn
from others. You know, it's never You're never too old,
never too yo, you long to learn anything, so long
(06:05):
as we can keep growing as a team and we
can achieve the things we wanna achieve.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
In addition to the was there a physical toll from
playing more snaps.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Than you would played in the bath? Uh? No, I
accept that challenge that comes to me. You know, God
gives it's it's toughest, toughest battle, so it's toughest shoulders.
So I don't really complain about anything that's given me.
I I feel that I worked my whole career to
get something like that, and I got the opportunity. Didn't
go the way we wanted to do all season, but
the fact that I got a chance to do that
(06:33):
and to see what I can do with that and
feel that and wear that. I feel great about what
I can can do coming up this year if I
ever had to do that ever again in my career.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
And Chad were a couple more more remarkable place for
you last year in Vidual it was to meet up
on shelter kick returned muted.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Where you knocked the ball out and if you.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Ever take something which let.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
You you could get intentionally or off. This year in
your team is so at.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Any one in the game. You could be on teams,
you could be on defense, and it could be your
time and you gotta make that to play it.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Are you just you know to punch uh honorary like
uh teacher in the locker room?
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:05):
I don't think I'm an honorary peanut punch or teacher.
I just think that just turnovers in general, the more
we can create sixty six punches, we get a turnover.
So that's what we preach and that's what we believe.
So as long as we can get enough punches on
the ball and enough at Tim said it, we will
get balls out and and can possibly lead and and
turnover battles. So that's what the goal is for us,
is to get as many turnover as we possibly can,
(07:26):
and giving our offense extra chances to be able to
go score and put the ball the end zone.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
You mat younger guys on the edge like Mak and
Princely what's impression the most about damaged and make a
lot of statements.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Earlier on the camp, you know, the development of to
learning and then comprehending those things, going out there, seeing
we get in the in the meeting rooms, taking it
out from meeting rooms, going to practice and applying it
and not only just applying it, but doing it the
right way and holding yourself to that standard and dominating
Those things matter because you can't mentally be like, oh yeah,
(07:59):
I can I know what I'm do and not go
out there and achieve those things and not work up
those things even if you fail, knowing what you can
learn from those things to be better. So I feel
that they've done those things, then we'll continue to do
those things. Go back, did you be it? It's sort
of an interesting dynamic. Y'all had a year together in
meeting rooms and what not with only a sample of
snaps in the game.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
It does that time away from the field like still
transferred over or do you still kind of have to
facilitate that chemistry.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
When you're on the line together.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
I feel we have chemistry still, like even though you
know OTA's and all that stuff. In me, yeah, we
didn't have a year on the field, but the knowledge
that we both uphold and understand and can communicate to
each other without even saying a word. I think that things,
those things matter, But when you get to the field,
you do gotta still build those chemistry, and I think
(08:48):
we are we are building those things.
