Speaker 1 (00:06):
Alright, so I think you guys just saw uh drafting
uh Nick Gordon, the guy that we obviously really liked
as as an edge rusher, and then the same thing
with Princely. I'm not gonna pronounce his last name because
that's a little too complicated for me, but in all seriousness,

(00:27):
you know, there are two guys that, like, we think
very highly of. They can get to the quarterback, they
can play the run, and they can do all the
things that we're gonna ask ask them to do. So yeah,
we're just super excited and uh, you know, didn't think
we'd be able to get both of them. So to
be able to capitalize and trade up and and get

(00:48):
these guys, uh, you know, we're just super excited about it.
So I'll leave it to you guys.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
You guys both constantly talked about making the roster uncomfortable
and having new pieces. You guys have spent cash on
a on an out on an edge rusher, and now
you've spent two premium picks on edge rushers. Like, how
should the outside linebacker group, the incumbent group feel about
all these editions?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
I mean, I think you know we said earlier, you know,
the roster. It's all about adding competition, adding depth, and
you know, especially at a position you know last year
that you know, it felt like we need we needed
to get a little more pass rush out there. So
to be able to add these two guys, you know,
it's just going to add to the group and and
the competition and everything that the program is about.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
How much of this too, was about maybe and a
getting Jadevian off the field a little bit more than
all the snaps he played last year.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, again, I just think it's about the you know,
the competition out there, you know, keeping guys fresh, having
a healthy rotation, not only on the outside but also
on the inside. So just our d line group as
a whole, you know, just keeping those guys fresh and
be able to play, stay healthy. It's a long season,

(02:06):
so to be able to add these two guys into
that mix, it's gonna help everybody out.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Just to be clear to Davian, you do plan and
keep it ndling it now.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
You know, we're still working through the roster, We're still
talking through things. Obviously we're focused on the draft right
now and what's in front of.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Us, Dave, both of them, both these new addressers, have
pretty different body types. Do you see them as like
a rotation based on packages or like how did these
guys compliment each other?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yeah, there's versatility in there for sure. And I think
the cool part about you know, adding Pat Jones is
you know, Pats shown an ability to rush on the edge.
He's also shown the ability to rush inside in different
packages and you know, talking to a Jarro, you know,
just the different ways in known past situations that you
can kind of mix the bodies up, you know, and

(03:01):
it just gives you a lot of versatility with what
you can do. And then alluded to it too a
long season. All these guys are going to play. They
they have to play, you know, and so you know,
for us, the goal was to you know, add more
guys to the arsenal, to just you know, get those
guys fresh and make sure that when we have those
critical downs, you know, end up half end of games,

(03:21):
that we're able to, you know, keep that intensity level
up and just keep throwing guys at you know, at
the offensive line of the pass protection unit and affect
the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Dan from the standpoint of scouting guy who's not gonna
turn twenty one until you know, August to get a
pass rusher that young that you feel like you can
probably develop long term from the scouting perspective. How intriguing
is that it is?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
You know, obviously you know still young young guys. You know,
guys that are still developing, still growing, you know, working
on their their arsenal, working on their craft. And you know,
to get these young guys that are energetic and super
motivated to get out there and and improve our team
and roster, it's a it's exciting.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
You mentioned even if you've allos little kind of jokingly
that your braid isn't really working right now. Yeah, how
chaotic did things get in there tonight? Even allowing you
to get both these stocks?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
I d I don't think it was chaotic at all.
You know, I think we have a really good process.
We have a really good group. You know, the communications
great between all of us, and you know that's what
you want, you know, you don't wanna feel like it's
chaotic at all in there, and it hasn't felt like
that at all throughout the whole draft process. And I
think it's a testament to you know, this my staff

(04:37):
and Dave's staff and the communication and you know, just
everybody working together towards a common goal.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
And you're in the right.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Word, But how would you describe just the range of
emotions because you mentioned at one point you didn't know
if you could get.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Both, So how that played out? Yeah, I think I
think it's you know, the one word is just excitement.
You know, to be able to go and get your
guys and guys that you you know, been watching forever
and that you've really grown to enjoy watching and you know,
just kind of see them play. Both. These guys are
fun to watch, they're great players, and to be able

(05:11):
to get them, I mean, it's we're so excited.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah, you were a little non committal on Steve's question
about Clowney. Can you expand on kind of what you're
going through there with him?

Speaker 1 (05:23):
No, I think you know, it's not just it's not
just him, it's just with the roster, you know, as
a whold you know, we're just kind of working through things.
We're working through the draft. We're focused on that and
then we're going to reassess it after after the draft
and go from there.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
And you obviously want to get the impact players in
the early rounds, either these and Rudgers guys or both
guys you feel are capable of starting in a rookie year.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, you know, I think it's up to them. You know,
I think they have the ability, but again, everything has
to be earned.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
And you know, his coach alluded to and I think
you know, if Nick and Princely were here talking, you know,
they have high aspirations for themselves, but for us to
put those types of expectations on them, you know, the
goals for them to first and foremost get in the building,
learn what we're doing, learn the calls, the techniques we're asking.
You know, there's there's a discipline that goes with playing
this game, and so I don't think they're naive to

(06:17):
the fact that there's a lot of hard work in
front of them, you know, and that's hopefully what we create.
And well, I just want to mention, you know, Brent's
not up here with the Brent Tillis is, you know,
having Brent right here sitting next to Dan, you know,
and going through different trade scenarios and you know, working
with with Justin and Eric Eager and just you know,
running through the simulations and what it would take and

(06:37):
just kind of the speed at which they do that.
I mean, you know, I haven't been in a lot
of draft rooms for the whole time, but I just
know it makes our decisions so much cleaner where we
have the percentages of who's going to be available to
like hold tight. You know, I'm probably panicking the most,
even though it's not really visible, I'm probably panicking the most.

(06:58):
I'm like, Oh, he's there, He's still there.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
You know.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
They're the ones that have, you know, the grasp of history,
the grasp of of all the probabilities, and so that
part just kind of sets me at ease. Take a
deep breath, Okay, let this thing come to us and
and you know, running through hundreds of simulations, just kind
of using mock simulators and all that. Like if you
were to tell me that we were going to get
t Mac and then Nick Gorton and then Princely, I

(07:23):
mean I didn't get that, not once in any of
my mocks in the first three picks. So I'm just
like ecstatic right now. I'm really excited about these guys.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Those guys, the rushers come on up group that you
guys had them pointed and that you saw a lot
of ed rushers going off in the second round.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
And to give the point, I think I think it's
just as a whole, it's a good class of outside
linebackers slash rushers. So you know, again like these are
guys that you know, when you watch their tape, the
tape is you know, it stands out. So to be
able to get these two guys, just like Dave said,
it's really exciting.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Firstly, the inside linebackers and safeties and some of these
other position corners have kind of dropped in this class.
How confident do you feel like you can address needs
like that on day three?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yeah, you know, I think that type of stuff, I
think it runs in our favor. You know, obviously we
want to address you know, not just edge rushers and receiver,
but you know there's other spots that we need to
add to and you know, I think it matches up
pretty good with our with our needs.

Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, Prince, he talked a lot of the senior ball
about wanting to make sure he could get to a
double digit sack season before he left for the NFL,
and then he changed a lot about his game to
make that happen. As you watched his tape, did you
see that progression and what does that kind of tell
you about him?

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, you know, I think he was working on his
craft and you know you can tell on tape. You know,
he got better and better as a pass rusher in
terms of using his hands and kind of you know,
developing a toolbox. And you know he's he bends about
as good as you know, any rusher that I've watched
this year. So to get him, you know, the speed

(08:59):
that he brings up the edge, his ability to bend,
he's got a wicket spin move, he's got a long arm.
He can do a lot of cool things. So you know,
I think he's just gonna get better and better going.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
And so tonight was that edged position going to be
a focal point for you guys?

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah, you know I felt like it was, you know,
and it just so happened to match up with our board,
and like, hey, we had these guys high and you
know they were still there and that's you know, that's
why you saw us go and trade up for them.
So you know, we wanted to capitalize on that.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
What about for either of you getting both of them
out of the sec and what that, man, if it meant.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Anything, And I mean it's great It's great to see
them against some NFL competition. You know, I think, you know,
all of them getting their shot against Will Campbell certainly matters.
You know, you kind of watch them battle against the best,
and you know, just watching them do it in different
ways too. You know, you got more of a compact
built bull with the spin and you know, the high
motor there, and then you got Princely and all the

(09:59):
things that that Dan talked about, you know. But to
see them, you know, get to you know, continue to
refine their craft against a really high level of competition
was was really cool for us.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
How much NAC kind of play in into today as
far as those identifying those two.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Guys, Yeah, I mean it's a again, it's a collaborative effort,
you know, between the scouts, the coaches, all of us
just communicating and coming up with the guys that fit
our scheme and fit our culture. So you know, we're
all working together and you know it worked out good.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
He might just telling us today about how he lobbied,
i mean Bryce lobbying for him. Can can you elaborate
on what that is like for Bryce to do that?
Because he doesn't like a guy that would just walk
in and pump his fist or do anything. How would
you describe him doing that.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I think a lot of it is just like the
communication part, like just talking to Brace, talking to the
players in general. And you know, of course I'm gonna
take Bryce's you know, recommendation on a guy that he
was out there throwing with, and he you know, he
intimate knowledge of what he look like, and you know,
of course I'm gonna pick his brain and get his thoughts.
And Bryce is a big part of this organization. So

(11:10):
I'm glad. I'm glad we communicated and we got it done.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
We didn't ask you guys last night about uh Temax
comments that got real surfaced from a couple of years
ago about about he didn't watch film. Is that something
you all addressed with him, and were you satisfied with
his answer?

Speaker 4 (11:28):
I never brought it up. We just we just met him.
We put him on the board, we talked to him.
He's really sharp, you know, and we felt like this
was a guy that can come in and, you know,
and and learn and do the things we're gonna ask
him to do. And we asked our receivers to move
around quite a bit in different formations and all that,
and we felt really confident he could do that. And
then just like I think I mentioned it before, but

(11:49):
if you just watch his craftsmanship in the way that
he goes about the game, he works at it, you
don't just you know, just that stuff just doesn't happen,
you know, the details and the technique and all that.
So not really something that that played in.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Feel like, what do you feel like right now? The
position is maybe an area that me you might have
thought about addressing in the draft or maybe still are
Where do you guys feel tight end?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Is that right now?

Speaker 4 (12:16):
I feel good about our group right now? And again,
all of these positions, you know, as we go, we
have a bunch of picks left, and so every single
position we're gonna try to add good players there to
challenge the room. The central theme of our our whole
deal is competition, and when we throw competition at something,
you get the best out of everybody. So we're gonna
try to challenge, you know, as many positions as we can.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
Okay, when Team Mack was here today, you got to
watch him and Bryce meet up and kind of chit
chat for a while. As a head coach, what is
it like to just kind of watch that first interaction
and what it's going to mean for your team.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Yeah, there's a mediu factor to this sport, you know
when it comes to the past game and uh, it
is about time on task. It's about throwing, but it's
also about chemistry. It's about feeling like you have a
connection with somebody and you kind of just like, you know,
I think back to there was that crazy throw that
Bryce had to Tommy Tremble up the sideline like on
a third and long, almost like it was designed. They

(13:10):
just kind of knew and it's about just spending time
with each other and his body language said he's going up,
I'm gonna throw it now. And so I think any
little touch that they can have, any little connection that
they can have, it it finds a way to make
it make itself visible on the field and you can
feel that chemistry, and that's what we hope happens.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Made a decision on Icky's fifth year.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Yet, No, we haven't. We haven't. Once the draft's over,
we'll get together and we'll make a decision pretty quickly.
