Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hoon for the review.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Late practice, Princely had an inside move and got in
there and held up did you talk to him after practice?

Speaker 3 (00:12):
And said we did? You know? And I think, uh,
it was cool for me to talk to the guys
like what looked like Princely going for the ball. You
gotta wait and see the film. We watched the film.
He was actually trying to avoid Brice, didn't have anywhere
to go in the pocket, so as he pulls his
arm back, he kind of hits him. But you can
see Princely running kind of by still made a point
of it, right, It's still great to teach the guys
in those moments, but just another great, you know, teachable

(00:35):
moment for the whole groups. Hey, let's not pass judgment
of what happened. I saw a play kind of but
I didn't see specifically. We'll be able to rewind it,
you know, ten times and figure out what happened. But
had a couple of other good rushes today by Princely,
you know, so every day shows up and and does
something good. I'm really encouraged with, you know, the effort
first and foremost that he's giving in the strain to
finish all the way through practice, we saw JC.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
And t Mac you beat a little bit in eleven's
there was the deep ball. What did you see on
that play? And then also how has how can JC
make him a better wide receiver?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah, that's what it's all about, right position to position.
You know, the guys you go against in practice is
how we become us. It's how we find our best.
When you bring your best, you bring out the best
in the guy across from you. And you know, JC
just kind of owning his land, his his territory right
there in that situation cutting off the deep ball is
going to teach t Mac how to get in position,
you know, how to you know, reduce his surface to

(01:31):
try to get back on top or do I need
to stop and pop, you know against a really big, strong,
fast corner, you know, as big and fast as they come.
So really brings out the heart of competition.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Austin Cave, we've seen that kind of mix up. We're
we're sure out look on the competition as you guys
enter and get ready for pads.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, I think we're just gonna let them both kind
of play it out and alternate days with who goes
with Bryce? That chemistry matters, you know, how the whole
group works with commun munication and all those things. We're
looking at all of it and we're gonna evaluate it,
you know. And again, I love competition. I love uh
asking guys to bring their best. They don't have to
go above and beyond who they are, but it requires

(02:12):
all of you. You know, when you're in a competition,
you know there's good you know, depth within your position.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Pat Jones was back and coming.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
We have played today. What was it about him? You
saw this offseason?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
They kind of made target him in cre agency effort strain,
you know, first and foremost. You know, we preach rolling
off the ball, setting edges in the run game, transitioning
to your pass rush, and just being able to play
that stout type of defense. And you know, watching his
film from last year, you know, generating you know, I
forget what it was eight and a half sacks or
something like that, but you know, just the way that

(02:43):
he did it with strain, the physical way that he
chased the ball on the backside, played stout on the
front sides what we're looking for. And so a great addition,
a great pro in that room where you got a
couple of young guys from the draft in Princely and Nick.
You know, to look at DJ Wanham, to look at
Pat Jones, Dj Johnson who's been around the system, you know,
to see the type of physicality requires to play the position, the.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Additions to the defensive line, and the efforts to most
of the run game. When wait, will you get a
sense of of how much dealt change? So when the
pads go on, do you have a sense already of
how maybe how helpful those editions will be.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Well, right now we're practicing without Derek Brown and Bobby Brown,
So I think that's gonna be another big part of
you know, that interior rotation of how we use guys.
But you know Ashan and Turk, Jaden Crummdy, you know
Shy Tuttle of course, you know, and then adding Cam
Jackson and Jared Harrison Hunt these guys, there's a bunch
of really talented athletes in that room with different skill sets.
You know, you got your big power guys, you have

(03:40):
some twitchier guys like Turk who can really get off
the ball and present some problems that way. So I
think it just gives us versatility and what we can
do how we can you know, play the opponent's run
whatever their system might be, you know, and and kind
of take our approach from there. For us, again, like
a lot of these guys have played a lot of
pro ball, so we have we have a good on
a film on some of the veteran guys that we

(04:02):
know we can count on to play tough in the run.
But it is really cool to get into pads, you know,
for those guys to really show, you know, what they
can do. And there's advantages of both sides. Right now,
there's less of a surface for the O line to
grab on at this point, you know. But at the
same time, you know, it's also some of those guys
like playing lower with their pads, so all those things

(04:22):
kind of come to life, you know, in a couple
of days.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
You know.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Jack's kind of Jack Henderson's kind of like a unique
body type, kind of more Seattle League than than some
of the other safeties. What what is it about like
the length and size that appeals to you as well
as his talents.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, school, if you go back to his college film,
he was like a he was like a flexwill linebacker type,
which really is a nickel spot. He's got great size.
He's he's slimmed up a little bit from his college
playing days, but his size and length, athleticism and ability
to play in space, which you've already seen. He was
an edge blitzer and some of the stuff they did,

(04:59):
you know, he's having to carry seems he's having to
do a lot of things we ask our safeties and
our nickels to do. So we felt like it was
a really cool scheme fit and you know, to and
for him. You know, the key for all the young
guys is how can they contribute on special teams? You know,
And so that's gonna be the challenge is can you
learn what we're doing and can he show us that
he can make it happen in these preseason games?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
How along would do you anticipate extending the kick and
competition into I know, you know that's every roster spot
this time of year is valuable.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I don't know that right now, but I do know
we got to give him fair opportunities to kick here,
you know, on the skinny uprights, and and also to
get into some games, you know, and and see if
we can count on them and from what distance you know,
to to make that decision and of course the kickoff
comes into play, and you know who can who can
place it just inside that twenty, you know, and let
the ball run a little bit to give our coverage
unit an advantage. So all those things are gonna come

(05:48):
into it. We need more opportunities to be able to make.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
That, certainly at least through a game of.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Or, I would hope.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
So, yes, they've both done well of the classy days,
but do you have to kind of reserve judgment when
the normal snacker or sorry, the normal holder isn't kind
of available.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
That's definitely a part of it, you know, getting Sam healthy,
to get him back out to practice, and he's doing
a great job. Feeling came up to me during practice
that he held in college, you know, and with gloves on,
so he was kind of asking the cakers as a matter,
if a guy has gloves on, I can do it
in a pinch, you know. And their response is, we
like guys whose hands aren't beaten up from diving and
catching and blocking. So a little more reliable hands as

(06:26):
your backup quarterback. If it's not the punter shoot, I
don't know. I'll have to ask him that.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Jimmy, you have to speak. Coming in with Jimmy Horn.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
What else are you seeing out of HAMB that makes
you feel like you got a chance Because you've got
a lot of receiver it's hard for guys to get
a look sometimes.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, I just love the way that he plays football.
It's full speed all the time. Some guys we have
to really teach them how to get into a walk
through mode. He's one of those guys. Everything he does
is fast. You know. I think about Devin Tompkins, who
I love, who was here last year, you know, and
they just bring out the best in everybody because you
know when they're out there, they're going one hundred miles

(07:04):
an hour, full speed and they're looking to take the
top off. So I love that style about Jimmy and
what he's shown us, you know, whether it's in drills
or in the team periods, you know, he's just all gas.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
How do you feel about the possibility of keeping seven
wide receivers?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeah, we gotta see again those last couple of spots,
whether it's in the secondary room or the wide receiver room,
really comes down to who we can count on on
special teams. We're big believers that's part of our the
heart and soul of our philosophy of building this team
as good football players. And those guys show up in
the kicking game. They can cover and tape, make tackles,
they can play gunner, you can put him as returners,

(07:40):
you can put him at PP, you know. So it's
the versatility of the skill players tight ends included. You know,
who are the guys we can count on special teams.
That's really what's gonna make the decision, because again, you
get one ball, you got about three wide receivers sometimes
four out there, you know, so you're really playing with
about four guys, and those fifth are sick sometimes. You know,

(08:01):
it's hard to find those guys a role. It's the
same thing as the secondary. So when you know they
can play teams, you always got a helmet for him
because they're gonna help us regardless, you know, in our
special teams, in those units.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
So you have the Patrick Jones when you have to
pick over the hill, What what's that show about his skills?

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, it was just great vision quarterback intentions. You know,
he's in that bonus hook area like he does, and
and he kind of dropped back, got to his spot
and got vision on the quarterback. You know, that's that's
the veteran play in his you know, in his game
right now that a lot of the other guys are
gonna be able to see get to your spot and
see where the quarterback sides are taking you, you know.
And so he did it beautifully. And of course he's six',

(08:36):
five you, know AND i didn't know he could catch like.
That so that was that was an amazing play.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
His team though a load management situation for his knees or.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
What IS i think just in generally For, timo you,
KNOW i think the guy's been so dependable. Here it's
great for us to be able to get him get
his work. In you, know he gets he's he's tireless
in individual. Periods he's a. Pros he does need the live,
reps but within. Reason and then it just Gives yash
an opportunity to work on his, craft you, know and

(09:07):
some of the other tackles that we have to get
out there and show us what they can do as.
Well the time just to See rico up close on the,
field what kind of stands out and pops off about?
THEM i think For rico it's the consistency AND i
think just being a well rounded running. Back he can
do it. All he catches well in the, backfield he's
got patience and, vision he can run with, power he's
got really good. Speed and THEN i think the cherry

(09:28):
on top is he's an amazing past protector just iding
things and the way he shows up really firm on
linebackers when they're. Blitzing this is something That i've seen
from him from a couple of years. Now BUT i
think just the well rounded player that he. Is and,
again he's kind of he doesn't say, much you, know
he just works. Hard he's looking to run with, violence
and that's the kind of style of guy that we like.
HERE a couple More.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Coach homboord is having a betteran coreter back Like andy
running with the second team and the third, team just
to give these guys a quality of reps and develop
the rest of the units of the running backs of wide.
RECEIVERS a junk as a you're one.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Of the, Others it's it's amazing And i'm glad you
brought that up because it allows us to evaluate all
the other skill. Players as you see the ball get
distributed where it's supposed to. Go AND i got to
say For Jack. Plumber he does the same thing for.
Us And jack's one of the more conscientious rookies that
we had last, year and the way that he was
able to learn our, system be a part of the

(10:20):
game plan dialogues and offer all. That those guys bring
a lot of value to the quarterback room in. General
but then to your, point also to the, team not
just for the offensive. Guys we need to see the
secondary players make plays down the. Field so When andy
can push the ball up the Fielder jack can push
the ball up the. Field we get to evaluate our
young safeties and our young corners as. Well so it's very.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Important tommy was doing some ketching For bryce and then
just rehab on the, side and it looked like he
was pretty, fluid, yeah in his. Routes just about being
able to handle the physicality.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
With his, Rehab, YEAH i think. SO i think a
big part of it is is the initial evaluation, of you,
know of what this type of surgery requires to get
you fully, strong to get the explosive movements and change
the direction that you. Need he's working in that, progression
BUT i wouldn't say he's been cut loose for all
the change of. Direction he's doing a lot of inline

(11:12):
stuff with a little bit of routes right, now but
then we're gonna have to get him in some short spaced,
stuff have him pushing a sled and doing all those
things you, know which can obviously requires more of your.
Body SO i think it's just a natural. Progression but
he is on track and he's doing a great.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
