Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hop on for the review.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
What a beautiful day, unbelievable, a long weekend.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
The guys look fresh, they look fast, a lot.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Of excitement out there, and uh to be able to
get back on the grass, you know and continue to
build this thing, you know as we head into the
first week of the regular season. A lot of excitement. So,
you know, good competitive period at the end, just went,
you know, ones on ones at the end, best of
five right there, and so it's a lot of good
energy to finish the practice offense one today. So it

(00:39):
kind of goes back and forth sometimes like that, but
it's a really nice pass Brice through about a forty
yard bomb to Xavier, you know, early in the competition
period to kind of elevate the energy of it. But
it was a really good practice, So I was fired
up to get back out there.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Hey, coach, every team wants to stay all fast.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
You know that's not stated obvious.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
But after last year's opener, how important is it for
you know, the team at fort Price to set a
nice standard its.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Twin twenty five. You know, we're excited about every week.
We treat them all the same all the way through
the preseason. Every game is a championship, opportunity for us
to work on our craft, work on our game, work
on our play style, all those things, and that's the
way we look at this one. Excited about the challenge
of the Jags. You know, Liam Cohen, the guy that
I really respect, and a bunch of talent that they've

(01:27):
assembled there, So a lot of excitement in both buildings.
Just really looking forward to, you know, these opportunities to
become us, you know, to find the successes and find
the challenges and to learn it to grow.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
So I'm really excited about this week on Ichy status
and then we start Damien out there. Yeah, day to
day right now.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
We'll give the official injury report on Wednesday with all
the you know, different levels of what what people can
expect there, but it's it's day to day right now. Cocher,
how did that?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
What happened with that injury?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
And then the resigning over and Frocum, Yeah, it was
in our last practic this he got a pretty significant
quad strain. So, you know, bummed out for Jalen who's
had a fantastic camp and yes, excited that Hunter. We
got that done, and I really got to give a
lot of credit to Dan and Brandt, Hunter and his
crew for just working through it. We were going to
have this conversation ongoing and couldn't be a better opportunity,

(02:18):
you know, right now, based on the situation we're in.
We're so blessed to be able to have Hunter come
back to us here and decide to continue with us
with the Panthers were stoked.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
About it, and he had a great day today.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
But I'm really glad that the guys were able to,
you know, find a common ground in an agreement.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
If you had talked to us before about how pleased
you were with Cocher after you had to talk with
him at the start of OTAs, will you guys have
your your you know, PT people and your medical people
kind of dig into the quad stuff because I think
he had a similar thing last year.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Absolutely, it's all hands on deck, and you know, we
had a great plan in the off season, which Jalen
did a great job of executing as well over the
summer and has really just looked amazing. And I had
a chance to just connect with them, you know, right
after the practice a lot of frustration, you know, and
and then just kind of seeing him today and he
knows what he has to work on. And I was like, shoot,

(03:13):
it's all about what are we competing for? And now
we're competing to get healthy. We're competing to do this,
you know how to do this, and you have the
resources here. Everybody's all hands on deck and we're just
you know, we're gonna exhaust everything possible to be able
to get him, to get him back into the rhythms
of last year where he was able to come back
and help us, you know, even last season. So you know,
can't wait to get him back out there. And right now,

(03:34):
it's just gonna take some time.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Dave.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I knew you said a couple of weeks ago when
you took Tommy off of the injury list that you
wanted to see how his physicality kind of handle it.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
How has he looked so far now that he's in drills.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
He looks great, I mean as good as I remember,
you know, maybe better. He looks fast, he looks strong.
So he's got you know, really two exposures now of
you know, limited in that first practice last week. Coming
back today was a little bit more. He's handling the load. Well,
we'll check in with him again, you know, this afternoon
and kind of see how he feels. But he's been
locked in mentally the whole time, and now it's just

(04:07):
a matter of getting his feet underneath him and and uh,
just you know, finding those rhythms and being able to
block different body types and those things.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
But I'm excited about Tommy.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
What's the unique challenge of being the first team to
see what Jacksonville is going to do with Travis Hunter?
And have you been able to deduce anything about what
their playing might be in the preseason? A special player,
for sure, but it goes beyond that. I think it's
anytime you play a team where you have new coordinators
coming into play. You know, familiarity with Liam, you know,
with what he did in Tampa. But then this is

(04:38):
a totally different group.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
They're kind of built differently with their skill uh players
on offense and some of their tight ends. I'm sure
they're gonna use them in different ways than what we've seen.
We might see some similarities, you know, And and the
same thing goes for the defensive side. You got a
new defensive coordinator. He's been a couple of places, you know,
and it's, uh, you take the preseason and you got

(05:00):
to think Okay, well, if he's calling plays really for
the first time in a while, like some of the
rhythms of how he's gonna call it may show up
in the preseason, but we have to assume they're not
showing everything, just like we showed most of our stuff,
not everything. So those things present their unique challenges, you know,
because while it's still gonna come down to our execution,

(05:21):
you like to have your sixty or seventy percent or
better tendencies, whether it's offense or defense, you know, and
we really don't know what those things are. So we're
gonna have to be taking a lot of notes, you know,
early on in the game to kind of see what
the game plan is and and just make sure that
what we're doing, you know, attacks that or fits that.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
When you identifying those tendencies, is that's something like are
you looking at film for those coordinators in those previous stops.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Yeah, you just got to collect as much information and
use your best assumptions on what you think they're going
to hang their hat on from from a core standpoint.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, you named captains, Yes, can you tell us about
that for us? Is that vote or is that coaches Truye?

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yeah, that's that's the players, players voting for it, you know,
and they voted for Derek and and Bryce and JJ
Jansen you know, as our special teams representative. And we'll
kind of have a rotational captain, uh each week that'll
go out with those guys, somebody who is playing the
type of play style, showing the type of character we're
looking for. And we like to celebrate those guys and
call them out front, you know, at the at the

(06:23):
end of the week going into the game. So but
I you know, these are these are three unbelievable people
who represent what Panthers football is about.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
When you picked a roster, you kicked the entire draft
class from this year plus a couple of undrafted guys.
Are there common threads about those guys as a group
that you've seen throughout training camp And to.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Now, I think it's just the evaluation process. Dan does
a fantastic job of educating his staff for the types
of players that we're looking for. The football character, the
personal character certainly, the physical attributes and toughness and all
those things, but we have a play style here. Those
are the things we're looking for and counting on. And
those guys showed those things, you know, throughout the off

(07:03):
season in camp when we were able to have them,
and we'd love to build our team that way with
players who we hand pick that fit these profiles, you know,
and then we will develop the football part of it,
you know, as they as they grow up right in
front of our eyes. You know, so really excited about
the last two classes and the guys we have here
Team AC.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
In particular, How have you seen him progress since the
day he walks into now when about being a certain lineup?

Speaker 2 (07:28):
First of all, congratulations Team AC, you know, University of
Arizona Football Ring of Honor certainly a cool moment for him.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Got to see a couple of those pictures.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
But I've just watched him just attack every day and
take the information he's been given and master it. He's
done a great job mentally being focused in on where
to line up, how to execute the route. Lots of
conversations with Bryce, a lot of growth there, you know,
and then from here it's just about stacking days, stacking techniques,
seeing different coverages. You know, as we go through a season,

(07:58):
he's going to see different types of DB's, different types
of techniques than what we've seen in practice, and so
every week is going to be so valuable for Temac
to just learn to grow and uh, to just continue
to grow an adjustice game.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Your message to Hunter, you know, obviously you guys cut
him and then you know, stayed in contact. But what
what was your message to him in bringing him back?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, it was just working through it with Dan and Bran.
I honestly just you know, got to credit those guys
for continuing to have the open dialogue. You know, what
do we want this to look like going forward? And
so you know, just really stayed connected throughout the whole thing,
and I was able to kind of come in over
the weekend and just have a conversation with him and like,
you know, really reiterate the fact that, like, I'm committed

(08:44):
to this story. I'm committed to your story here with
the Panthers and the excitement that I have.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
For for whether this could go.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
And you know, all of a sudden, you know, you know,
Jalen gets hurt and all of a sudden, it's like, okay, Hunter,
and by the way, you're playing on Sunday right now,
so let's go. And so just a lot of excitement
for both of us, and we were able to touch
base again, you know today just about that whole thing.
But I think both of us just kind of had
a laugh and just thought, like, you know, you can

(09:11):
many are the ways of man, you know, and the
plans that you might have in your mind, but you know,
God ultimately has a plan for how things work out.
And we kind of just sat there on the field
and just kind of had a laugh. It was like
a little different than we both kind of pictured, but
here we are.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
So let's go.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Earlier that you didn't think he was ready for the
fifty three man when you cut him, but now he's
a place where he's gonna have to play it that
you have to How did you explain that to it?

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Honestly, again, it was just going back to let's let's
keep talking this week. That wasn't a definitive declaration or
anything that was like set in stone. That's just like,
let's continue to have this conversation throughout the week, you know,
And and it got closer and closer to where both
sides you know, felt good about where we were headed.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
So I'm glad we found the agreement.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Go back, sorry, I wanted to go back to the
Captain's things for a second. Yeah, that rotational captain. Is
that something you picked up from Pete or did you
pick it up from somewhere else?

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, that was from Pete. You know.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
He kind of looked for a way to like celebrate
and acknowledge somebody who's just given everything they got contributing
to the team, a team guy, exhibiting the play style
that we're looking for, the toughness, uh plans, smart, you know,
and really making a contribution. And and on top of that,
we also have a we also have a a Scout

(10:26):
Team Player of the Week for somebody that just we
see continue to take steps and grow, develop and really
treat every day like a championship moment and like their
opportunity to get better. And we recognize that as well.
At the end of the week, they don't go out
for the coin toss. So really it's like a fifth
captain that we kind of recognize. And it's no different
than the players that we want to pay to be
here long term.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
We reward the.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Guys that look like Panthers football players and the vision
and the dreams that we have what we imagine our
group becoming. We just kind of point to those things
like guys, this is us, this is who we're looking for,
This is how we want to play football.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Last year, I was defensively things did go well, and
you grow a lot of people, so there's a lot
of different personnel. But schematically, is this defense going to
look differently than last year? You get did you change
anything this off season?

Speaker 2 (11:16):
You will see on Sunday. We definitely have a core
of stuff that we love, and of course you get
an off season in camp and we're working on stuff.
You know, we're working on you know, I love you know,
a Jarro's philosophy, you know, and really you know, having
coach kpers here is like, let's get our best eleven
players on the field, whatever that looks like. And I

(11:37):
believe the same thing about the offensive side, you know.
So it's a combination of different guys that we just
have to find a way to get guys to put
them in the best position to be impactful, you know.
And so we'll be able to kind of do that
in some different ways.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Last year and the opener and yourself, because you were
optimistic going to last year's opener like more right now,
but things kind of didn't work out the way you
probably what do you learn about him man yourself last year.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Really, I'm not looking for last year. I could just
tell you where we're at right now. We got a
great leader who's stepping into the huddle, making sure the
tempo's right, making sure the attitude's right, the energy is right.
You're talking about a guy who's who's won at the
highest level in college football. He knows how to be
a champion, he knows how to win. And I just
love the way that he's affecting all of us, the
way that he's affecting his teammates. But it's about his

(12:24):
daily approach, you know, and the consistency that comes with that,
you know. And I'm just really fired up about, you know,
being able to go out there and battle again on
Sunday with him.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
At day to day Or was that Ikey specific?

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Yes, I mean Ikey specific and everybody else find out
on Wednesday just will give the official report.
